Thesis Statement Of Odysseus
Thesis: In the novel The Odyssey Homer displays the main character Odysseus, the shepherd of men,
with god like qualities which clouds his judgement and sense of superiority that he will never transpire
to respect the other warriors through his harsh tones.
After Odysseus came from the encounter he had with the beautiful witch goddess Circe,, his men are
grateful to see him . His men gather around him like a master and a shepherd, his men surrounded
him. Odysseus a well respected man who is admired by his men and treated as a mortal god due to his
God like qualities . While his crew are stranded in the middle of a cross road without his leadership

frequently allows his ego control his rational thinking, resulting harm to his group and messing with

other heavenly gods who surround to her in Mount Olympus, however Odysseus takes it to himself to
outrage and blind Polyphemus, the monstrous son of Poseidon, adored by his dad yet abhorred by the
people, In this way distrusting their whole arrangement . Subsequent to being blinded by the heroine,
Polyphemus tosses huge pieces of rocks at Odysseus s ship, nearly obliterating them at the same time.
But instead of retreating for safety, Odysseus keeps on provoking Polyphemus and [calls] out to the
cyclopes again, with [his] men hanging all over [him] begging him not to (Book 9, 491 492). His
feeling of pride and presumption influences to disregard the requests of his people even in these
critical circumstances . He will fulfill his own feeling of interest and pleasure without thinking of the
result it would have on his crew. Despite the fact that he is bound to get away from all passings and
assaults, his group isn t so blessed. Their lives are in mortal peril since Odysseus considers them as
child sheeps who should forfeit their lives for him when the circumstances comes, much the same as
how mortals make conciliatory offerings of sheeps for the heavenly gods. He is willing to fulfill his
own feeling of interest without thinking of his groups lives or their suppositions and is regularly
infuriated when they negate his request. If they hurt his sense of pride and self importance and
pomposity , Odysseus will be overcome with outrage and

Introduction The purpose of this report is to survey the current state of scanner technology and to
briefly discuss predicted advancements in the field. By examining a range of recently published
journal articles, magazine articles and internet sites on the topic of scanners this report describes the
main types of scanners in common use today and examines their performance in relation to four
criteria: resolution, bit depth, dynamic range and software. The report then considers the effect of
further technological advances in these four areas, as well as the deployment of new sensor
technology on the future development of scanners. The first scanner, initially referred to as a reading
machine , was developed in 1960 by Jacob Rabinow, a Russian born engineer. The device could scan
printed material and then compare each character to a set of standards in a matrix using, for the first
time, the best match

The Causes Of The Triangle Fire Of 1911
A year after shirtwaist workers thought they had won a war, the Triangle Fire proved that it had
merely been a battle. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris,
the men and women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working
conditions and low wages. While working, the garment workers, made up of mostly poor Italian and
Jewish women immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses, and forced
to work long, tiring hours for little pay (Argersinger 11). Tired of these conditions, the workers of the
Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in
September 1909 (Argersinger 11). The union of the garment workers acquired the backing of both the
International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Women s Trade Union League, which inspired
many other women, both working and upper classes, to follow the older unions lead and join the
garment workers fight. Accordingly, thousands of garment workers launched an eleven week strike on
November 22, 1909, which became known as the Uprising of Twenty Thousand (Argersinger 11 12).
The strikes were successful because they accomplished their key goals, though this came at the cost of
improving workplace safety which eventually led to the Triangle Fire of 1911. Years before the
tragedy, the motivations of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company workers to participate in the Uprising of
Twenty Thousand were

Iranian Influence On Iran
The US was in Iran in 1953 during the Cold War. We were there because we were helping overthrow
Mosaddeq, who was a fierce nationalist in Iran. The overthrow took about four days lasting August 15
through the 19 in 1953. Mohammad Mosaddeq was the Iranian Prime Minister. He sought to audit the
books of Anglo Iranian Oil Company (AIOC). Upon the refusal of the AIOC to co operate with the
Iranian government, the parliament voted to nationalize the assets of the company and expel their
representatives from the country. Following the coup in 1953, a government under General Fazlollah
Zahedi was formed which allowed Mohammad Rezā Shāh Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, to rule the
country more firmly as monarch. We helped finance the coup so that on August ... Show more content

USSR and the West tried very hard to influence Iran. The west wanted to influence Iran to be
democratic while USSR wanted it to be communist. Both of them shared one common interest though,
they wanted access to Iran s oil. Iran from the dawn of Iran s beginning had an excellent source of oil
like no other and both the west and USSR wanted to be able to access it. Iran was never colonized by
the west or USSR but they were greatly influenced by USSR. The past between USSR and Iran has
gone between rivalry and companionship, the end of world war two created the start of America s
political dominance in Iran while USSR fell behind. Soon after, America became politically involved
in Iran they put up a communist block and ending USSR s influence on Iran for many years. After the
fall of the USSR, the relationship between Iran and Russia changed. Iran even began to purchase
weapons for their military from Russia. Iran s current military is greatly influenced by Russia instead
of the west, as it was in the past. The relationship between Russia has become stronger as they both
feel the same about limiting the U.S s political control in Central Asia. Iran was always wanted for its

George Smith Wealth Of Nations
By this he meant that if they can sell the items the public will buy then the result will be to make
money. If they can satisfy the needs of the consumers then they will receive bountiful rewards. In
Smith s head this system not only makes the baker, butcher, and brewer wealthy, but also the nation as
a whole. When the citizens are working productively to make themselves better then the nation will
prosper too. In today s society the invisible hand theory seems to lead capitalism and free markets
efficiently through controversy of supply and demand for deficient resources, other than for the
benefit of an individual.
The Wealth of Nations argues that division of labor and the specializing in work will yield abundance.
Smith states, It is the great multiplication of the productions of all the different arts, in consequence of
the division of labor, which occasions, in a well governed society, that universal opulence which
extends itself to the lowest ranks of the people . The ideas that Smith presents in The Wealth of
Nations has effectively changed the import and export livelihood. Smith constituted the idea that is
currently known as GDP or Gross Domestic Product and he fought for free commerce.
Before Smith wrote The Wealth of Nations , all countries used gold and silver as a basis of wealth.

theoretical criteria but rather the policies and interpretations. Another equally argued disagreement
between the two was the economic method and exchange value. Ricardo used costs to figure the value
but wanted labor to be the one significant exchange value. Malthus argued that there should be a cost
analysis integrated with the supply and demand scheme. Malthus tried to explain the measure of value

Development in Charter Schools Essay
In 1988, Ray Budde (A University of Massachusetts Amherst Professor) felt that something needed to
be done to improve the public education system in the United States. Falling test scores and rising
dropout rates provoked a movement for reform. Ray Budde pointed out many restrictions set by state
governments that inhibited the potential of many students and how these restrictions were damaging
the educational system rather than maintaining it. He proposed a plan that would eliminate these
restrictions and create a system where students would excel. This idea took hold when the American
Federation of Teachers adopted the idea and set up the first Charter Schools in Minnesota in 1991.
These were the first of many charter schools in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although very risky, starting a charter school has its advantages too. A study performed by Phi Delta
Kappa International focuses on the differences between charter schools and public schools. This study
gives a comprehensive interpretation of the advantages charter schools have over public schools. The
study mainly focuses on the management aspect of the charter schools and shows how principals of
charter schools use their power to put their schools ahead of public schools. A former public school
principle interviewed eight charter school principals on how they hired teachers. The interviews
suggested that charters schools are serving as exciting seedbeds for new approaches to finding,
employing, and keeping better teachers. ( Finn) Interestingly enough some principals would be willing
to hire non state certified teachers to meet their standards of quality. These principals were looking for
was a teacher who was highly intelligent, had prestigious college background, was articulate, and
liked kids. (Finn) Although they would be taking a risk hiring someone without the standard teaching
qualifications set by the state, they knew that with their intelligence and prestige, they would strive to
educate the children as they would themselves. The charter school system gives the principal the
power to hire teachers which enables them to select the teachers that match the needs and culture of
their school. Most of these principals look for overachievers, those who want to

Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Essay
Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Gulliver s typical Anglocentric Enlightenment views are best
exemplified in Chapter 1 of Part IV of Gulliver s Travels. The long paragraph, in which he describes
his encounter with the Yahoos as well as the circumstances leading up to it, illustrates the climax of
his Anglocentric views, after which his English pride begins to gradually degenerate and his desire to
emulate the Houyhnyms arises. His English pride in this paragraph is demonstrated by his resolution
to trade his life with the local Savages using Toys as his only means, his judgment of the Yahoo s lack
of comprehensive language ability, and his ever present disgust for bodily functions. As the passage
opens, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to his sense of Enlightenment superiority, Gulliver does not even entertain the possibility that his
life actually is as insignificant as the Toys which he plans on trading for it. Ironically, as his pride
degenerates into a hatred for his own race, Gulliver indeed starts to believe in the insignificance of
human life. After Gulliver considers his options, he inspects the island and observes a species of
animals whom he likens at different points in the paragraph to goats, squirrels, monsters, cattle and
beasts. It is no wonder then, that later when Gulliver reveals that these creatures are human beings,
that his reader is surprised. He describes their shapes as Singular and deformed....their Skins were of a
brown Buff colour. Perhaps one reason Gulliver does not initially see any resemblance between
himself and the Yahoos is because they are not white; perhaps his Anglocentric ideal does not permit
any color but white to be acknowledged as his equal. What seems certain, however, is the fact that
Gulliver feels an immediate antipathy to the Yahoos because they show no indication of having a
rational language. In watching them, he does not see them speak to each other and this alienates him
because as we see in each voyage, it is imperative to Gulliver that he learn the language of the peoples
he encounters, from the Lilliputians to the Brobdingnagians. As with all his journeys, he wants to find
inhabitants that he may

The Native American Indian Population
The population that has been officially chosen is the Native American population, also known as
American Indian. Aside from the information given by this course, a Children s Literature class taken
at the Newark branch of the Ohio State University also contributed to my decision. During a lecture
there was a guest speaker of Native American descent, she grew up on a reservation, and in her work
she wrote and illustrated the Native American culture and lifestyle. Her lecture consisted of the
perspective of the Native American population during colonization, and now, as well as the
misconceptions of the population and discussed a council that allows the American Indian community
to be aware of the number of tribes, the number of individuals within each tribe, and locations of
various tribes. The essay will consist of the history of the American Indian population, current
statistics, news within the last six months pertaining to the population, and links and resources will be
provided. The class textbook, Strangers to These Shores 11th Edition by Vincent N. Parrillo, is the
main resource utilized for historical information on the American Indian population. The book
provides information on pre colonization, stereotypes, government policies, current affects from
colonization and statistics. According to the class textbook, before colonization the Native American
population was between six and ten million (Parrillo 2014). Moreover, American Indians have culture

Extraneous Acceptance In Song Of Solomon
Extraneous Acceptance Humans not only want, but require acceptance. Most people want to be
respected by all. Some, however, focus all of their time and energy into gaining the acceptance of one
specific person. Their desire becomes obsession, their futile attempts become personal warfare that
obliterate their body and mind. Hagar, daughter of Reba and granddaughter of Pilate in the novel Song
of Solomon, fully embodies this radical persona. The book follows the journey of Milkman, a
deplorable and gregarious young man, who attains the love of his cousin Hagar. However, after he
leaves nothing more than a cold Thank You note and some money to break up with her, Hagar s mind
becomes unhinged by pain. While Milkman gets to know various new girls ... Show more content on

disappointment. After seeing herself in the compact given to her by Pilate, Hagar exclaims Look at
how I look. I look awful. No wonder he didn t want me. I look terrible (308). Hagar deduces that
Milkman s lack of attention is due to the way she looks. She arbitrates that the best way to win
Milkman back is by altering her appearance to reach his standards. Hagar buys everything she
believes that Milkman would deem worthy. However, the wet ripped hose, the soiled white dress, the
sticky, lumpy face powder, and the streaked rouge leave her dispirited (314). The adjectives display
Hagar s failure to make herself beautiful, while also displaying that she tried everything to make
herself look pretty. Not only does Hagar spend a substantial sum of money and demolish her
remaining sliver of self worth, but her endeavor to be physically pleasing to Milkman hurts Reba and
Pilate, who feel sorry for Hagar. This attention seeking trait is detrimental to her loved ones as well as
herself. After her beauty rampage, Hagar tells Reba and Pilate that Milkman don t like hair like [hers]
; he only likes silky hair the color of a penny (315). Hagar believes that because of the color and
texture of her hair, Milkman left. She fixates on the fact that,

In pursuit of upward mobility, many educated women have put their personal lives on hold and
focused on their professional lives. This has not always been a completely personal choice; with the
one child policy and the weakening of the danwei system, many urban parents of only child daughters
know that they will have to rely on her for their care later in life. With the best of intentions, but
perhaps shaped by this pragmatic worry, many parents initially encouraged their daughters to focus on
their careers, hoping their daughter is able to achieve a solid, middle class status. However, while
privacy has allowed women to have premarital sex and date more freely, marriage is still the
expectation. Unmarried, educated women in their late twenties or older are pejoratively known as
leftover women and encouraged by state media to stop focusing on their careers, lower their standards,

Religious Hypocrisy In Frederick Douglass
Since before the time of Jesus Christ, religious hypocrisy has run rampant throughout those who held
power. Countless lives have been affected by others twisting religious interpretation in order to fit
their own needs. Slaveholders used religion and scripture to their advantage when disciplining slaves,
sometimes even if they did no wrong. Religious hypocrisy is especially relevant in the life of
Frederick Douglass. Frederick Douglass s life story depicts how religious hypocrisy committed by
both slaves and slaveholders diminished the rights of slaves, while at the same time allowing injustice
to endure. Throughout Douglass s life, he had masters who practiced religion quite extensively.
Although these masters were extremely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads to a major issue within the slave community. Slaves possess little knowledge of life outside
the plantation or house in which they are working at. This means they have no idea how humans are
supposed to be treated, and rather that a god would never allow for another to be beaten in such
severity. This is an advantage that the slave owners held over the actual slaves. If the slaves were to
gain an understanding of the world around them, the religious quotes recited by slave owners would
quickly lose their worth and soon mean nothing as well as hold no influence over the slaves. Frederick
Douglas was fortunate enough to understand this, and even addressed the issue in his life story, What I
have said respecting and against religion, I mean strictly to apply to the slaveholding religion of this
land, and with no possible reference to Christianity proper; for, between the Christianity of this land,
and the Christianity of Christ, I recognize the widest possible difference so wide, that to receive the
one as good, pure, and holy is of necessity to reject the other as bad, corrupt, and wicked(71). Douglas
understands that the Christianity practiced by the slave owners was far different from the Christianity
intended by Jesus Christ. As Douglas referred to it, the Slaveholding religion was prominent
throughout the slavery era, not only was this damaging for the slaves,

Why Did Texas Fight In The Civil War
Friend versus friend, brother against brother. The Civil War was an extremely bloody war that tore
families apart. In the year 1861, Texas, an American slave state, seceded from the Union, joining the
Confederate states of America. Prior to the state s secession, Abraham Lincoln was elected president;
he was an abolitionist, so tensions rose throughout the nation and that resulted in southern secession.
Shortly after that, tensions snapped and the Civil War began. The question is, why did the people of
Texas fight in the Civil War? Texans fought in the Civil War because they were pro slavery, supported
State s Rights, and were loyal to Texas. One of the main reasons Texans fought in the Civil War was
the issue of slavery. According to the

Essay Breaking the Cycle of Poverty caused by Lack of...
Society has been trying to reduce poverty for over 500 years (Indigenous) and has never succeeded.
The education and skill level, health or handicap status, and discrimination play a vital role in poverty.
So why does society keep trying the same approaches: give them money or give them jobs? Neither
one ever worked. A major factor determining whether someone will end up living in poverty,
education or skill level can make or break an income. Education plays a vital role in acquiring jobs,

Violence Next Door Analysis
The social stratification of people can be affected by many things. In most cases people are affected by
economic factors. In class we watched documentaries that shows different economic struggles and
other structural inequalities. The documentaries were Violence Next Door: Growing up in the Favelas
and The Other Side of Immigration. They both showed different economic factors from different
places. One of the documentaries we watched in class called Violence Next Door: Growing up in the
Favelas followed teenagers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Baltimore City, Maryland. The documentary
was made to show the lives of teens that live in what people call slums, ghettos, favelas, or the hood.

This documentary interviewed families from Mexico that have members who crossed the border to
The United States to find better labor opportunities. The border has been set to protect illegal
immigrants from crossing the border. Despite the protection of the borders, several Mexicans are able
to cross by being smuggled in or finding their own way in. They prefer to go to The U.S because they
get paid more per hour than they would earn in Mexico. They return after a couple of months and
sometimes years, but they cross the border because there are factors in Mexico that drive them away.
The economic factors that affects these families are NAFTA, government corruption, and lack of
technology and resources. The North American Free Trade Agreement is a treaty between Mexico, the
United States, and Canada. The trade agreement made costs of production higher for people in
Mexico. Importation of goods such as meats, fruits, and veggies started to come in from the United
States and caused loss of businesses in Mexico. The government in Mexico does not provide funding
for businesses to grow. Local officials don t share money provided by the government fairly. Subsidy
for businesses are difficult to find because their government don t notify people when funding is
available. The mayor is corrupted in a way that he bribes others for votes and picks certain people to
help. The government is also the reason why there is a lack of technology and resources for businesses
to grow. The business owners could not afford the technology for fast production like the United
States can provide. These economic factors affects the families that are left behind in Mexico while a
member crosses the border. Families are torn apart for months and sometimes years just so they can
make a better living from the money earned in the U.S. The children of families that cross the border

English Literature in the Victorian Era
I m no lunatic man, I m a sane man fighting for his soul this quote from Bram Stoker s Dracula,
illustrates and foreshadows that in the Victorian era, a quest for meaning was seen by the majority of
society as lunacy , however the characters that Stoker uses, are represented sane , suggesting Stoker s
encouragement of a quest for meaning and purpose in the Victorian era of increasing uncertainty.
Along with Stoker, Charles Dickens and Lord Alfred Tennyson also address the individual s pursuit
for meaning and purpose, linking this idea specifically with themes of capitalism, class and gender
inequality, corruption, freedom and oppression; which I will be using to comparing and contrasting the
writers, closely analysing the driving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover from a Marxist perspective, stokers demonstration of Dracula s pursuit to subject London to
claim the blood that would maintain his life can be interpreted from a Marxist point of view as the
upper class exploiting the working class to maintain capitalism within society. In contrast with
Dickens portal of Bounderby in hard times he shares similar qualities in comparison with Dracula
using his power and status as an advantage of mistreating his workers, where he views them as hands ,
undermining them subsequently because of their working class status. Dracula s castle and Bounderby
s bank are the motif of their power and status, these are Stokers and Dickens portrayal of their
embodiment of capitalism. These writers illustrate how much power Dracula and Bounderby had upon
society to illustrate the impact capitalism bought upon society and the exploitation they inflicted upon
the working class. Dracula s embodiment of capitalism also ironically shares similar traits to and,
mirrors the decline of the British Empire and the greed they had for power, their immoral work of
colonising half of the world is almost as equivalent with Dracula s constant thirst for power, where
being content is not an option for both Dracula and the British Empire.

How to Measure Social Culture and Organizational Culture...
Introduction
How to measure social culture and organizational culture of one country is an important issue
(Miroshnik, 2002). Culture can be defined as the way of life of the group of people, which includes
beliefs, art, law, morals, customs, and any capabilities and habits acquired by a man as a member of
society, and enables people to communicate with others, provides the knowledge and skill necessary,
and anticipates how others in society are likely to respond for the actions (Miroshnik, 2002).
In other hand, managers frequently view culture as the collective programming of the mind which

For examples, Indonesians avoid admitting lack of knowledge, inability to complete something, or
deny something that it is actually true in order to show dignity.
Indonesians are polite people. Upon meeting and leaving, it is usual to shake hands with both men and
women. The other example is Indonesians avoid using left hand when offering something to others,
because it is regarded as the unclean hand. It is also rude to point someone with a finger (Makmur,
2002). The fact is Indonesian cultural values do not adapt or include some of the elements in the

Analysis Of Disney Pixar s The Incredibles
From the outside looking in, the Parr family is an average, middle class white family. Bob, the father,
is the breadwinner, working a 9 5 job insurance job, while his wife, Helen, stays at home to take care
of their three children. However, underneath their apparent nuclear family structure lies a secret
double life based on their former superhero alter egos. Their banned super powers awaken when, in
typical melodrama style, the city is in need of saving and the Parr family are the only ones who can do
so. Disney Pixar s The Incredibles uses a double life situation to simultaneously enforce and obliterate
gender roles within an apparent stereotypical family dynamic.
Bob Parr, also known as Mr. Incredible, represents a stereotypical working class father who longs for
the days in which he can express his masculinity again. Since his crime fighting, superhero days are
past him, he continues to struggle to assimilate to regular life, knowing that he still possesses his super
powers. In Advertising and the Construction of Violent White Masculinity , Jackson Katz explains
Bob s power hunger, stating, For working class males, who have less access to more abstract forms of
masculinity validating power (economic power, workplace authority), the physical body and its
potential for violence provide a concrete means of achieving and asserting manhood (Katz 351). What
Katz says is completely relevant to Bob s struggle. Since he lacks authority in his workplace, his

Theme Of Communication In The Hunger Games
Every good story has many communication errors and successes in order to create a relatable
entertainment piece. After watching the popular dystopian novel story come to life in film, I have
chosen to dig deeper into the complexity of the ways in which communication plays a key role in the
Hunger Games. To better understand the messages and plot in the story, I will evaluate the character
identities, audience perceptions, and cultural differences that affect the contestants survival.
In the Hunger Games, one young male and one young female are randomly selected from each
District, or town, every year to go into war with one another. Only one of the twenty four make it back
out of the game alive. The mayor announces the chosen ones every year at a ceremony known as the
reaping, where he explains the history and purpose of the games. There was a war in the past between
the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their
victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to
volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12 s boy tribute,
Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the
game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their
likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to
winning.

Greetings Inc. has operated for many years as a nationally recognized retailer of greeting cards and

As the stock price of many other companies soared, Greetings stock price remained flat. As a result of
a heated 2007 shareholders meeting, the president of Greetings, Robert Burns, came under pressure
from shareholders to grow Greetings stock value. As a consequence of this pressure, in 2008 Mr.

Wall Décor was designed to distribute unframed and framed print items to each Greetings store on a
just in time (JIT) basis. The system works as follows: The Wall Décor website allows customers to
choose from several hundred prints. The print can be purchased in various forms: unframed, framed
with a metal frame and no matting, or framed with a wood frame and matting. When a customer
purchases an unframed print, it is packaged and shipped the same day from Wall Décor. When a
customer purchases a framed print, the print is framed at Wall Décor and shipped within 48 hours.
Each Greetings store has a computer linked to Wall Décor s Web server so Greetings customers can
browse the many options to make a selection. Once a selection is made, the customer can complete the
order immediately. Store employees are trained to help customers use the website and complete the
purchase. The advantage to this approach is that each Greetings store, through the Wall Décor website,
can offer a wide variety of prints, yet the individual Greetings stores do not have to hold any inventory
of prints or framing materials. About the only cost to the individual store is the computer and high
speed line connection to Wall Décor. The advantage to the customer is the wide variety of unframed
and framed print items that can be conveniently purchased and delivered to the home or

Cathar Heresy
The ideological impetus behind this mechanism, specifically the push to centralize and regiment the
prosecutorial process, derived from the reformist popes fighting to establish papal supremacy. To be
clear, the papal reform movement did not start the process of persecuting heresy; some of Christianity
s first leaders, such as the second century bishop Irenaeus of Lyons, wrote about heresy and how to
combat it. Furthermore, prosecutorial episodes occurred before the election of the first reformist pope,
Leo IX, in 1049. One of the most famous examples occurred in the French city of Orléans in 1022
when a number of high ranking members of the clergy and nobility were accused of harboring dualist
beliefs and venerating the Devil. In turn, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the Third Lateran Council in 1179, Alexander III condemned the growing heretical movements of
the era, and, in the twenty seventh canon, explicitly threatened the Cathars with force. Following
Alexander III, Pope Lucius III began to officially coordinate prosecutorial procedures by outlining the
responsibilities of bishops and secular authorities in his papal pull, Ad abolendam. Pope Innocent III
continued to search for ways to suppress Catharism after his election in 1198. He redoubled
conversion efforts by commissioning a Cistercian mission to the region. Additionally, he further
developed the legal mechanisms to prosecute heresy after issuing the Vergentis in senium in 1199. The
papal decree listed out the consequences of following heretical beliefs: confiscation of property and
revocation of titles, to name a few. Nevertheless, like his predecessors, Innocent III failed to dismantle
the Cathar Church through nonviolent means. In 1207, channeling the rhetorical powers first used by
Urban II, Innocent III announced the Albigensian Crusade by promising an indulgence of the

The Moral Universe And Moral Tradition
Christianity has been enculturated by the African people to be truly African and truly Christian . By
doing this through various practices it makes the religion profoundly colorful and vivid so that the
Biblical stories and memories come to life through the village and its people. There is a resonating
deep understanding by the community that their morality is steeped in their traditions and ancestral
worship. The people understand that everything comes from and flows from God and that the
ancestors (also referred to as the living dead) have a vital part in not just their individual development
but to move further as a community. In African Traditional Religion, the answers to these moral

However, the more bad things you do the more bad karma that is accrued and therefore, the more
likely you are to be reincarnated into something lesser than what you were. Moving forward we can
see that there is an immanent need for a moral universe in any context of the word because of the way
humans needs to categorize things in order to understand them.
In Africa, there is an establishment of both context and content of African morality and ethics. God is
both the Giver of life and the power behind everything there is and when we take a look at the
universe there is a composition of divine and human hierarchy that helps the African people create
perceptions of the universe that the world is a sacred abode of God and their ancestors. Due to the way
the African people view the world, human action can be viewed almost as a sacred aspect of
Christianity, thus making the way they teach their religion a dynamic part of who they are and who
they will be. Making the religion not just about orthodoxy but also about orthopraxy, as we discussed
in class on various occasions. One also has to be born into it and learn it from childhood through
normal socializations.

How The Internet Has Transformed The Ways Of Communicating...
The Internet has transformed the ways of communicating and learning ways of the prior years.
Electronic mail, also known as email, has existed ever since the Internet was invented, to send
messages from one computer to another. One remarkable invention was the Project Gutenberg of 1971
which is about placing books and documents in a public domain that can be accessed electronically for
free. The Internet is a channel for interaction and collaboration of different individuals using the
computer or any advanced technology that is being used nowadays regardless of the geographical
location of an individual. According to research, the Internet was first used in the year 1969 by the
Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) to run on packet switching technology for
the computers in Stanford and UCLA for the first time, and was later developed by different research
groups.
In the past, during the time when the Internet has not yet existed, studying was mostly concentrated on
learning from books and teachers. Students relied on books for references and conducted interviews to
know the opinions of others. They used encyclopedias, dictionaries, different thesis papers and
magazines as their primary source of other information. Before, students needed to go to the library to
borrow books as their reference, but nowadays, students don t have to go to the library to look for
different references because they can use the Internet to find answers and examples that can help

Rfid ( Radio Frequency Identification ) Essay
RFID (radio frequency identification) uses radio waves to transmit information between RFID tags
(chips) and RFID readers (What is RFID?, n.d.). There are two basic types of RFID tags. Active tags
are larger and more expensive because they require an independent power supply to function, passive
tags are cheaper, smaller and do not need a separate power supply (The Different Types of RFID
Systems, n.d.). Initially, we will be implementing the use of passive RFID tags, which will help
control the costs of this project. Once the RFID project is functioning according to our expectations,
we will expand our RFID system to include the use of active RFID tags. The implementation of RFID
technology will require a significant financial investment for a system wide implementation.
Depending upon the extent of our investment in RFID technology, we could enhance our control of
access to certain areas, improve inventory management, and monitor our patients movements
throughout our RFID equipped facilities (Niles, 2015, p. 384)
Phase one of the RFID implementation project will increase the security of our facilities and parking
structures. All hospital staff will be issued new employee identification badges that have integrated
RFID tags inside of them. Instead of replacing current badges, we have the option to issue RFID
sticker tags to be placed on the back of their current ID badge. The use of RFID Stickers will be
substantially cheaper than replacing all existing badges. The RFID

Comparing Cassia And Ky s Journey To A Cruel Society
The book Crossed, by Ally Condie, was about Cassia and Ky s journey to find The Rising . This book
was an awkward transitional book that I painfully pushed through to be able to read the next edition. It
started where the previous book left off, the Society placed the two in different places, and following
that, the book quickly escalated in terms of violence. From what started as a sappy romance novel
(which in my opinion, was quite enjoyable for just some light reading), turned into a fight for your life

Despite the fact that he is bound to get away from all passings and assaults, his group isn t so blessed. Their lives are in mortal peril since Odysseus considers them as child sheeps who should forfeit their lives for him when the circumstances comes, much the same as how mortals make conciliatory offerings of sheeps for the heavenly gods. • 4. The Causes Of The Triangle Fire Of 1911 A year after shirtwaist workers thought they had won a war, the Triangle Fire proved that it had merely been a battle. Under the Triangle Shirtwaist Company owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, the men and women laboring to sew waist skirts were dissatisfied with their terrible working conditions and low wages. While working, the garment workers, made up of mostly poor Italian and Jewish women immigrants, would constantly be yelled at and called sexist slurs by bosses, and forced to work long, tiring hours for little pay (Argersinger 11). Tired of these conditions, the workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York met in secret to form a union against the company in September 1909 (Argersinger 11). The union of the garment workers acquired the backing of both the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Women s Trade Union League, which inspired many other women, both working and upper classes, to follow the older unions lead and join the garment workers fight. Accordingly, thousands of garment workers launched an eleven week strike on November 22, 1909, which became known as the Uprising of Twenty Thousand (Argersinger 11 12). The strikes were successful because they accomplished their key goals, though this came at the cost of improving workplace safety which eventually led to the Triangle Fire of 1911. • 5. Iranian Influence On Iran The US was in Iran in 1953 during the Cold War. We were there because we were helping overthrow Mosaddeq, who was a fierce nationalist in Iran. The overthrow took about four days lasting August 15 through the 19 in 1953. Mohammad Mosaddeq was the Iranian Prime Minister. He sought to audit the books of Anglo Iranian Oil Company (AIOC). Upon the refusal of the AIOC to co operate with the Iranian government, the parliament voted to nationalize the assets of the company and expel their representatives from the country. Following the coup in 1953, a government under General Fazlollah Zahedi was formed which allowed Mohammad Rezā Shāh Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, to rule the country more firmly as monarch. We helped finance the coup so that on August ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... USSR and the West tried very hard to influence Iran. The west wanted to influence Iran to be democratic while USSR wanted it to be communist. Both of them shared one common interest though, they wanted access to Iran s oil. Iran from the dawn of Iran s beginning had an excellent source of oil like no other and both the west and USSR wanted to be able to access it. Iran was never colonized by the west or USSR but they were greatly influenced by USSR. The past between USSR and Iran has gone between rivalry and companionship, the end of world war two created the start of America s political dominance in Iran while USSR fell behind. Soon after, America became politically involved in Iran they put up a communist block and ending USSR s influence on Iran for many years. After the fall of the USSR, the relationship between Iran and Russia changed. Iran even began to purchase weapons for their military from Russia. Iran s current military is greatly influenced by Russia instead of the west, as it was in the past. • 6. George Smith Wealth Of Nations By this he meant that if they can sell the items the public will buy then the result will be to make money. If they can satisfy the needs of the consumers then they will receive bountiful rewards. In Smith s head this system not only makes the baker, butcher, and brewer wealthy, but also the nation as a whole. When the citizens are working productively to make themselves better then the nation will prosper too. In today s society the invisible hand theory seems to lead capitalism and free markets efficiently through controversy of supply and demand for deficient resources, other than for the benefit of an individual. The Wealth of Nations argues that division of labor and the specializing in work will yield abundance. Smith states, It is the great multiplication of the productions of all the different arts, in consequence of the division of labor, which occasions, in a well governed society, that universal opulence which extends itself to the lowest ranks of the people . The ideas that Smith presents in The Wealth of Nations has effectively changed the import and export livelihood. Smith constituted the idea that is currently known as GDP or Gross Domestic Product and he fought for free commerce. Development in Charter Schools Essay In 1988, Ray Budde (A University of Massachusetts Amherst Professor) felt that something needed to be done to improve the public education system in the United States. Falling test scores and rising dropout rates provoked a movement for reform. Ray Budde pointed out many restrictions set by state governments that inhibited the potential of many students and how these restrictions were damaging the educational system rather than maintaining it. He proposed a plan that would eliminate these restrictions and create a system where students would excel. This idea took hold when the American Federation of Teachers adopted the idea and set up the first Charter Schools in Minnesota in 1991. These were the first of many charter schools in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although very risky, starting a charter school has its advantages too. A study performed by Phi Delta Kappa International focuses on the differences between charter schools and public schools. This study gives a comprehensive interpretation of the advantages charter schools have over public schools. The study mainly focuses on the management aspect of the charter schools and shows how principals of charter schools use their power to put their schools ahead of public schools. A former public school principle interviewed eight charter school principals on how they hired teachers. The interviews suggested that charters schools are serving as exciting seedbeds for new approaches to finding, employing, and keeping better teachers. ( Finn) Interestingly enough some principals would be willing to hire non state certified teachers to meet their standards of quality. These principals were looking for was a teacher who was highly intelligent, had prestigious college background, was articulate, and liked kids. (Finn) Although they would be taking a risk hiring someone without the standard teaching qualifications set by the state, they knew that with their intelligence and prestige, they would strive to educate the children as they would themselves. The charter school system gives the principal the power to hire teachers which enables them to select the teachers that match the needs and culture of their school. Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Essay Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Gulliver s typical Anglocentric Enlightenment views are best exemplified in Chapter 1 of Part IV of Gulliver s Travels. The long paragraph, in which he describes his encounter with the Yahoos as well as the circumstances leading up to it, illustrates the climax of his Anglocentric views, after which his English pride begins to gradually degenerate and his desire to emulate the Houyhnyms arises. His English pride in this paragraph is demonstrated by his resolution to trade his life with the local Savages using Toys as his only means, his judgment of the Yahoo s lack of comprehensive language ability, and his ever present disgust for bodily functions. Due to his sense of Enlightenment superiority, Gulliver does not even entertain the possibility that his life actually is as insignificant as the Toys which he plans on trading for it. Ironically, as his pride degenerates into a hatred for his own race, Gulliver indeed starts to believe in the insignificance of human life. After Gulliver considers his options, he inspects the island and observes a species of animals whom he likens at different points in the paragraph to goats, squirrels, monsters, cattle and beasts. It is no wonder then, that later when Gulliver reveals that these creatures are human beings, that his reader is surprised. He describes their shapes as Singular and deformed....their Skins were of a brown Buff colour. Perhaps one reason Gulliver does not initially see any resemblance between himself and the Yahoos is because they are not white; perhaps his Anglocentric ideal does not permit any color but white to be acknowledged as his equal. What seems certain, however, is the fact that Gulliver feels an immediate antipathy to the Yahoos because they show no indication of having a rational language. In watching them, he does not see them speak to each other and this alienates him because as we see in each voyage, it is imperative to Gulliver that he learn the language of the peoples he encounters, from the Lilliputians to the Brobdingnagians. Some, however, focus all of their time and energy into gaining the acceptance of one specific person. Their desire becomes obsession, their futile attempts become personal warfare that obliterate their body and mind. Hagar, daughter of Reba and granddaughter of Pilate in the novel Song of Solomon, fully embodies this radical persona. The book follows the journey of Milkman, a deplorable and gregarious young man, who attains the love of his cousin Hagar. Hagar deduces that Milkman s lack of attention is due to the way she looks. She arbitrates that the best way to win Milkman back is by altering her appearance to reach his standards. Hagar buys everything she believes that Milkman would deem worthy. However, the wet ripped hose, the soiled white dress, the sticky, lumpy face powder, and the streaked rouge leave her dispirited (314). The adjectives display Hagar s failure to make herself beautiful, while also displaying that she tried everything to make herself look pretty. Not only does Hagar spend a substantial sum of money and demolish her remaining sliver of self worth, but her endeavor to be physically pleasing to Milkman hurts Reba and Pilate, who feel sorry for Hagar. This attention seeking trait is detrimental to her loved ones as well as herself. After her beauty rampage, Hagar tells Reba and Pilate that Milkman don t like hair like [hers] ; he only likes silky hair the color of a penny (315). This means they have no idea how humans are supposed to be treated, and rather that a god would never allow for another to be beaten in such severity. This is an advantage that the slave owners held over the actual slaves. If the slaves were to gain an understanding of the world around them, the religious quotes recited by slave owners would quickly lose their worth and soon mean nothing as well as hold no influence over the slaves. Frederick Douglas was fortunate enough to understand this, and even addressed the issue in his life story, What I have said respecting and against religion, I mean strictly to apply to the slaveholding religion of this land, and with no possible reference to Christianity proper; for, between the Christianity of this land, and the Christianity of Christ, I recognize the widest possible difference so wide, that to receive the one as good, pure, and holy is of necessity to reject the other as bad, corrupt, and wicked(71). • 27. Analysis Of Disney Pixar s The Incredibles From the outside looking in, the Parr family is an average, middle class white family. Bob, the father, is the breadwinner, working a 9 5 job insurance job, while his wife, Helen, stays at home to take care of their three children. However, underneath their apparent nuclear family structure lies a secret double life based on their former superhero alter egos. Their banned super powers awaken when, in typical melodrama style, the city is in need of saving and the Parr family are the only ones who can do so. Disney Pixar s The Incredibles uses a double life situation to simultaneously enforce and obliterate gender roles within an apparent stereotypical family dynamic. Bob Parr, also known as Mr. Incredible, represents a stereotypical working class father who longs for the days in which he can express his masculinity again. Since his crime fighting, superhero days are past him, he continues to struggle to assimilate to regular life, knowing that he still possesses his super powers. In Advertising and the Construction of Violent White Masculinity , Jackson Katz explains Bob s power hunger, stating, For working class males, who have less access to more abstract forms of masculinity validating power (economic power, workplace authority), the physical body and its potential for violence provide a concrete means of achieving and asserting manhood (Katz 351). What Katz says is completely relevant to Bob s struggle. Since he lacks authority in his workplace, his physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Theme Of Communication In The Hunger Games Every good story has many communication errors and successes in order to create a relatable entertainment piece. After watching the popular dystopian novel story come to life in film, I have chosen to dig deeper into the complexity of the ways in which communication plays a key role in the Hunger Games. To better understand the messages and plot in the story, I will evaluate the character identities, audience perceptions, and cultural differences that affect the contestants survival. In the Hunger Games, one young male and one young female are randomly selected from each District, or town, every year to go into war with one another. Only one of the twenty four make it back out of the game alive. The mayor announces the chosen ones every year at a ceremony known as the reaping, where he explains the history and purpose of the games. There was a war in the past between the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12 s boy tribute, Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to winning. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Cathar Heresy The ideological impetus behind this mechanism, specifically the push to centralize and regiment the prosecutorial process, derived from the reformist popes fighting to establish papal supremacy. To be clear, the papal reform movement did not start the process of persecuting heresy; some of Christianity s first leaders, such as the second century bishop Irenaeus of Lyons, wrote about heresy and how to combat it. Furthermore, prosecutorial episodes occurred before the election of the first reformist pope, Leo IX, in 1049. One of the most famous examples occurred in the French city of Orléans in 1022 when a number of high ranking members of the clergy and nobility were accused of harboring dualist beliefs and venerating the Devil. In turn, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the Third Lateran Council in 1179, Alexander III condemned the growing heretical movements of the era, and, in the twenty seventh canon, explicitly threatened the Cathars with force. Following Alexander III, Pope Lucius III began to officially coordinate prosecutorial procedures by outlining the responsibilities of bishops and secular authorities in his papal pull, Ad abolendam. Pope Innocent III continued to search for ways to suppress Catharism after his election in 1198. He redoubled conversion efforts by commissioning a Cistercian mission to the region. Additionally, he further developed the legal mechanisms to prosecute heresy after issuing the Vergentis in senium in 1199. The papal decree listed out the consequences of following heretical beliefs: confiscation of property and revocation of titles, to name a few. Nevertheless, like his predecessors, Innocent III failed to dismantle the Cathar Church through nonviolent means. In 1207, channeling the rhetorical powers first used by Urban II, Innocent III announced the Albigensian Crusade by promising an indulgence of the remission of sins to those who went on crusade against the ... However, the more bad things you do the more bad karma that is accrued and therefore, the more likely you are to be reincarnated into something lesser than what you were. Moving forward we can see that there is an immanent need for a moral universe in any context of the word because of the way humans needs to categorize things in order to understand them. In Africa, there is an establishment of both context and content of African morality and ethics. God is both the Giver of life and the power behind everything there is and when we take a look at the universe there is a composition of divine and human hierarchy that helps the African people create perceptions of the universe that the world is a sacred abode of God and their ancestors. • 33. How The Internet Has Transformed The Ways Of Communicating... The Internet has transformed the ways of communicating and learning ways of the prior years. Electronic mail, also known as email, has existed ever since the Internet was invented, to send messages from one computer to another. One remarkable invention was the Project Gutenberg of 1971 which is about placing books and documents in a public domain that can be accessed electronically for free. The Internet is a channel for interaction and collaboration of different individuals using the computer or any advanced technology that is being used nowadays regardless of the geographical location of an individual. According to research, the Internet was first used in the year 1969 by the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) to run on packet switching technology for the computers in Stanford and UCLA for the first time, and was later developed by different research groups. In the past, during the time when the Internet has not yet existed, studying was mostly concentrated on learning from books and teachers. Students relied on books for references and conducted interviews to know the opinions of others. They used encyclopedias, dictionaries, different thesis papers and magazines as their primary source of other information. Before, students needed to go to the library to borrow books as their reference, but nowadays, students don t have to go to the library to look for different references because they can use the Internet to find answers and examples that can help ... • 34. Rfid ( Radio Frequency Identification ) Essay RFID (radio frequency identification) uses radio waves to transmit information between RFID tags (chips) and RFID readers (What is RFID?, n.d.). There are two basic types of RFID tags. Active tags are larger and more expensive because they require an independent power supply to function, passive tags are cheaper, smaller and do not need a separate power supply (The Different Types of RFID Systems, n.d.). Initially, we will be implementing the use of passive RFID tags, which will help control the costs of this project. Once the RFID project is functioning according to our expectations, we will expand our RFID system to include the use of active RFID tags. The implementation of RFID technology will require a significant financial investment for a system wide implementation. Depending upon the extent of our investment in RFID technology, we could enhance our control of access to certain areas, improve inventory management, and monitor our patients movements throughout our RFID equipped facilities (Niles, 2015, p. 384) Phase one of the RFID implementation project will increase the security of our facilities and parking structures. All hospital staff will be issued new employee identification badges that have integrated RFID tags inside of them. Instead of replacing current badges, we have the option to issue RFID sticker tags to be placed on the back of their current ID badge. The use of RFID Stickers will be substantially cheaper than replacing all existing badges. The RFID ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book was an awkward transitional book that I painfully pushed through to be able to read the next edition. It started where the previous book left off, the Society placed the two in different places, and following that, the book quickly escalated in terms of violence.
