Abstract:
Statistical operations provide the means of principle of solving the many type of problems which
require the uncertain information in cirrhosis. This paper discusses the statistical operations.
Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound etc has been proved very
helpful in diagnosing liver cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is an endemic disease across the world that leads to

To let the liver function properly it is important to detect cirrhosis in early stage. Now a days
several noninvasive imaging techniques have been developed recently for detection of liver
cirrhosis such as CT, USG, MRI. In this paper we have used CT scan images of liver cirrhosis and
applied some statistical operations on those CT images such as mean, median, standard deviation
and mode.
II. Methodology:CT scans are challenging because of the different image characteristics that must
be considered. Here we will be considering the statistical features of a CT scan of liver which is
having liver cirrhosis as a disease. The methodology followed is given below:
Fig.1 Flow Chart of Methodology Used
(1).Image Acquisition : To get an image of which you want to extract some features.
(2).Image Preprocessing : It is common practice to perform preprocessing on acquired CT scan
images before extracting the features of images. Here we have applied the statistical operation on
the preprocessed images After acquiring the image various preprocessing methods can be apply.
The aim of this step is to improve the quality of the image that suppress unwanted distortion and
enhance the image features which is important for further processing. Such as increase or decrease
brightness, shape, contrast, remove the noise from the image.

The Dangers Of Social Media
The Dangers Of Social Media
The world of social media can be a broad spectrum of various possibilities and a deep pool of the
unknown. When diving into the world of social media you have to consider the fact that
technology has become so advanced that people don t even have to meet you in order to know
who you are without even being present in your person lives. Nowadays you have all sorts of
spyware which gives a predator the capability of invading your daily life. We will get more into the
different types further along the way. Social mediaalthough can be exciting to those that are
unaware of these dangers. To people like these; they are prone to damaging their devices and
having their most sensitive information stolen. Information such as social security numbers,
credit card information, utility billing, and so on. Many people become engulfed in this way of
living which in turn makes their devices their lives in a sense. It makes people depended on
their electronics, many people wouldn t be able to survive or get around without a cellular
device in today s age. Many people turn to the world of social media to bring them up to date in
on the hottest topics or trends, the latest news, or as a way to feel socially accepted. It kind
makes it hard for people to actually socialize normally in person and tend to come out of their
shells further when behind a computer screen. In my opinion it is sort of an outlet for most people
who are afraid to be them actual selves or real

Should Students Be Required To Learn A Second Language
Being required to speak a second language may seem trivial ,but it is, in fact, crucial. In terms of
today s concern over , there is always going to be a demand for Americans who speak a foreign
language in jobs.By requiring students to speak a second language it exposes children to different
cultures. As well as it helps students develop important skills in all learning, not just language
acquisition. There is no doubt when saying that all US students should be required to speak one
other language besides English because it brings so many positive benefits besides being bilingual.
Learning a second languagewill help the pupil develop positive qualities and improve their English
skills. In Why Another Learn Language? ,the author Samantha Roberts, illustrates

Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban missile Crisis began in October 1962, when the US discovered Soviet missiles were
being stored in Cuba, finding these missiles meant the US the Soviet Union were on the verge of a
Nuclear War.
In the lead up to the Cuban Missile Crisis, the US governments intention was to have Castro
overthrown. However Castro had both the political military support of the Soviet Union and started
receiving secret shipments of Soviet arms.
On the 14th October 1962 during a routine mission over Cuba, a spy plane obtained pictures
confirming the presence of nuclear missiles. Two days later, a detailed analysis of this evidence
was presented to President Kennedy. As the US Government had received indications that the
Soviet missiles would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However once there was no longer a threat of German and Japanese control, the Soviet Union took
this opportunity to try and win global domination. As the Soviet Union continued to spread through
Eastern Europe, America feared for their safety and freedom.
American citizens were worried their way of life and what defined them as a nation would be taken
away by communist nations, with Russia being the most threatening. After WW11, the depression
ended and for the first time in decades the economy was at its best. However the communists were
still a threat and had the potential to completely change the American way of life.
As the Cold War continued, the possible threat of nuclear war sent America into paranoia. Bomb
shelters were built in every new home; people began to stockpile foods in case they were required
to stay in the shelters for a length of time. Emergency procedures were put in place and practice
runs carried out at home and schools.
The decisions made by President Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis could have been the
turning point in the capitalism that Americans were accustomed to and given them a taste of
communism. If this had happened, the world would be a total contrast of what we know it as

Representation Of Religion In The Movie Mulan
Mulan is loaded with references towards religion and the profound sense of being particularly
some the conventions, practices, and estimations of East Asian religions. A reoccurring religious
subject that is consistently referenced in the film includes repeating supplication to and specify
of, the Fa family s progenitors. In the start of the movie Mulan, her dad, her mom, and her
grandma are all either straightforwardly imploring or allude to petitioning their predecessors on
events. In the film, the precursors are seen springing up as phantom life figures who examine how
to give Mulan direction when she leaves for the armed force. A profound sense of being and religion
are additionally delineated through the characters Yao and Chien Po, who

What Is Criminal Justice Essay
I believe that criminal justice is all about dealing with sustaining the law involving police, lawyers,
courts, and corrections. Criminal Justice in my substantial belief is all about a system that s
brought up by law for bringing the people in society to justice. Criminal Justice is all about bringing
the criminal up and conducting what must be done to uphold justice to the people. Criminal Justice
is distinct from criminal law, which I believe defines the specific behaviors that are forbidden by
and punishable under law. Criminal Justice begins when a crimeis reported to the policeor when a
police officer discovers that a crime has been committed. Criminal Justice also has to do with the
control of criminal behavior. Criminal Justice objective... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you think about police officer what do you know about them, are they law enforcement
or criminal justice? Well if you ask me, I believe, in my opinion that a police officer is a person
that focuses on protecting the people and bring forth criminals that break the law. Police officers
are in charge of enforcing laws within their city. If you go to a neighboring city, say like
Chicago, that city has its own police force. Police officers are often charged with the criminals
and detection of crime, protection and assistance of the public. Police officers are normally
sworn with an oath, and have the power to arrest people and detain them for a limited time,
along with other duties and powers. Some police officers may have special duties, for example,
such as law enforcement. The reason why they play apart in law enforcement is because police
officers are those who are empowered by the government to enforce the laws. Police officers play
a certain central role in the law enforcement system, like monitoring criminal activity. Police
officers when they first get their job they have one job that they have to do every day, which is to
serve and protect the citizens of

INTRODUCTION
Parkinson s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder which worsen over time. PD is
due to loss and degeneration of dopamine neurone in the brain. This neurone is important to make
signalling chemical called dopamine which allow us to make normal movement. Cause for this
disease is unknown, or basically acknowledged as idiopathic. However, there are

When The Emperor Was Divine
It is human nature to judge people who are different than us. Cultures can get so wrapped up in
their beliefs and traditions that they come to think anything different is wrong. People tend to look
down on those who fall outside of what is considered normal , and they judge them without getting
to know them. As expressed in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart and Julie Otsuka s from When
the Emperor Was Divine this judgment leads to fear, that is responsible for the destruction of
cultures and relationships. Differences in culturelead to discrimination and destruction.
Discrimination for cultural differences tears apart families. In both novels, families have been
subjected to discrimination toward their cultures and are either separated... Show more content on

When a group is too proud of their own culture to attempt to understand any others, they become
judgemental and fearful of people with different backgrounds, which leads them to inflict
unnecessary violence on those people. In from When the Emperor Was Divine , the Americans
judge the Japanese as a whole as hostile because of the actions of a select few, which in turn
leads them to punish the whole Japanese American population out of fear, and place them in
internment camps. The Americans become so fearful of the Japanese that they kill them without
any real reason, which is shown when Otsuka writes The guard who was on duty said the man
had been trying to escape...Friends of the dead man said he had simply been taking his dog for a
walk (554). The people the Americans were punishing were harmless, yet they were ridiculed
because of the fact that the Americans didn t take time to figure out that they were harmless. In
Things Fall Apart, the white men feel that they are pacifying the primitive tribes of the lower
Niger by instilling their beliefs into the tribes and civilizing them (Achebe 209). They do not take
time to really understand the Ibo culture, but instead are firmly set in the belief that they are right
and the Ibo culture is wrong and needs to be destroyed. Therefore, their discrimination of the Ibo
people stems from ignorance of their culture. Because the white men fear losing power over

imagine anything at all.
This past summer, I, along with my mother and father, travelled to St. Jude Children s Research
Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. My mom had been invited to participate in the St. Jude For Life
Study because when she was around six to eight years old, she had a form of leukemia called
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This particular study is to help all present and future St. Jude
patients and help to research for a cure. While there, I saw first hand how cancer can affect a family.

Evaluating Mary s Room Thought Experiment By Frank Johnson
In the famous thought experiment by philosopher, Frank Johnson, Mary is known as the color
scientist who knows everything there is to know about color. Mary has lived in a room all her life
where the world seems to be black and white. Mary has the ability to see color she just does not
have any color to see as she is only exposed to black and white in her room. Mary learns all the
physical facts about color, how human eye sees and interacts with color and how the brain
processes the visual stimuli, provided by the textbook she has in her room. At this point, it is
clear that Mary knows all of the scientific and physical facts about the color, but one day when she
finally escapes her black and white world and steps out of her room for the first time, she
encounters a red tomato, she learns something... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary s Room Thought Experiment goes against the idea of Physicalism and I will explain why it is
so by laying out reasons in my paper further explaining that Mary does learns something new when
she escapes her black and white world for this first time and finally I will evaluate the intuition this
thought experiment invokes by providing to a counterargument to my position.
Physicalism is the belief that all facts are physical facts . Physical facts are facts about the world
that we can learn in science text books. Such facts include, for example: Red light is about 650
nm. The thought experiment argues against Physicalism by providing facts that are not physical
facts. Mary realizes that not everything can be explained perfectly through any kind of physical
theory. This embarks to ponder life and to ask ourselves, is the way we experience the world more
than just simple biochemical process in the brain? And knowing everything about a particular
subject enough or is there something more to it, like experiencing how it feels like to be in a

The Year Of The Flood
In Margaret Atwood s novel The Year of the Flood, several saints are mentioned during Adam
Ones speech for Pollination Day namely Saint Suryamani Bhagat of India, among so many others,
because of her contributions to forest preservation (Atwood 276). Atwood may have chosen to
incorporate Bhagat, an environmental activist, as a saint in her novel considering that The
Gardeners had devoted this festival to the mysteries of plant reproduction, especially that of those
wondrous trees, the angiosperms, with special emphasis upon the Drupes and the Pomaceous
Fruits which matches with the work Bhagat has been undertaking to counter climate
change(Atwood 276). Although more than half of Suryamani Bhagat s life is still before her,
extrapolating from her current and past deeds it can be anticipated that she will continue to stand
as a servant of God due to her immense beliefs and rigorous efforts to combat deforestation for the
welfare of the community; live a life of heroic virtue as she fights to preserve her culture and
property rights of her people; remain praised and idolized in her community for her
accomplishments and facilitate yet more miracles such as obligating the government to accept,
honor and fulfil the demands of her tribeas well as facilitating the astonishing increment in female
literacy in the area; for those reasons, in addition to the fact that Bhagat also mirrors the
characteristics of the gardeners and shares a similar background story with Toby, Margret

Freud Vs Frankl And Freud
Running Head: COMPARITIVE PERSONALITY THEORIES OF SIGMUND FREUD AND
VIKTOR FRANKL
Comparative Personality Theories of Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl
Luke McGeeney
William James College
For my comparison, I ll be looking at the theories of Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl, the creators
of both the first and third Viennese Schools of Psychotherapy, respectively. To begin with, I ll
examine Frankl s theory of existential analysis known as logotherapy. Logotherapy states that we as
human beings are conscious creatures, responsible for our choices and decisions in life. Frankl
proposed a dualistic view of human nature, which claimed that the unconscious is home to both
sides of humanity, with instinctual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are meant to become our truest selves by finding meaning in our lives, which, according to
Frankl, can come from three places: work, love, and our attitude in the face of horrific suffering
or difficulty. And at the center of this meaning is our responsibility and human right to choose. In
Frankl s theory, we all strive to fulfill a self chosen goal, from which meaning has the potential to
be found. And if no meaning is found, there is meaning yet to be found, or meaning to be drawn
from the apparent lack of meaning. Whatever the case, Frankl viewed man s lack of meaning as
the greatest existential crisis, the stress of this meaninglessness giving life and shape to all of our
neuroses.
This will to meaning is the culmination of our developmental process. To cultivate an individual
s capacity to find meaning in their life is the greatest goal, and the source of mankind s anxiety
and neuroses. We all wish to find the meaning within our life, and are unfulfilled when we miss
the mark. But according to Frankl, there is always meaning in life, in every single moment, from
one to the next we all are capable of making a choice about ourselves, and beyond that, have a
responsibility to do so. Even with the transitory nature of our existence and hopelessness in the face
of certain death, there is still meaning to be found, there is still freedom to be earned.
Unlike Freud s theory that mankind s

Career Profile Of The Transition From School
I. INTRODUCTION
The transition from school to work can be challenging for students. It is our job to help you
identify your goal, acquire job searching skills and get prepare for the outside world. Janice Tester
(Career advisor, McGill University) Janice Tester has been working as a Career Advisor for
McGill Career planning Service Office (CaPS) for over 17 years. In 2014, I started to serve as a
peer educator in CaPS office and Janice became my supervisor since then. Despite the fact that we
worked closely together in the past two years, I never get a chance to know her accomplishments
in the job and how she perceive her work. This became my initial motivation to interview her.
Another reason is that, given the importance of career advising service in McGill, its performance
is difficult to evaluate. A throughout analysis on this position can be helpful for its performance
improvement. Several expectations for this position were developed during my working in CaPS.
Firstly, I expected career advisors to be business orientated, with backgrounds in human resource
management. Secondly, since their works involve mostly one on one consulting with students,
interactions with colleagues are limited and unnecessary. Thirdly, I expected that, career advisors
enjoy a high level of initiative. Instead of taking commands directly from their supervisor, they have

Essay On Hero s Journey Of A Hero
The Difficult Journey of a Hero The true definition of a hero has been argued among authors
time and time again but Christopher Reeve, the man who played the role of the well known
superhero Superman, stated it the best when he said A hero is an ordinary individual who finds
the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. Many people have the
option between choosing to be brave and choosing to be a coward. One of the main things that
differentiates the two is that one who is brave is willing to face and endure pain or danger for the
better of people around them. A coward however, is someone who lacks the courage to overcome
their obstacles and instead of confronting their dangers, they run for them. A hero... Show more

In this part, the hero can bring new wisdom and important cultural values back upon the return to
their community. They also bring positive change and deeds to the people around them. After
killing the Minotaur, Theseus returns to Athens with an overwhelming sense of triumph and
pride. It states, It was a joyous ship that sailed northward from Crete to Athens. There was
feasting and dancing night and day. And every young man aboard felt himself a hero too, and
every maiden a princess, (Evslin 170). He gave several young men and women their lives back
and the opportunities that would ve been taken away from them had the Minotaur still been alive.
Additionally, with the Minotaur gone, any potential candidates for the sacrifices would be safe as
well. This led to much relief and joy among the Athenians. Moreover, upon his return to Athens,
Theseus was hailed as king...people worshipped him. He swiftly raised an army, wiped out his
powerful cousins, and then led the Athenians forth into many battles, binding all the cities of
Greece together in an alliance, (Evslin 171). With this newfound power and support, he made
Athens the amazing city that we know today by purging it of those who were responsible for its
terrible condition. He also created alliances with other cities to ensure peace. Therefore, in Theseus
return home, he provided his people with solace, happiness, wealth, and

ETA is a Terrorist Organization with Roots in Ethnic...
ETA Discursive Essay:
From 1959 until 2010, Euskadi Ta Aaskatasuna or ETA has been fighting for autonomy in the
Basque region on the border between Spain and France. ETA hopes to achieve political and cultural
independence. However, it utilizes terror and violent intimidation to undermine existing
governments. It is a terrorist organization that with military style precision inflicts maximum
damage in an attempt to realize its nationalist ideals. Cease fires and negotiations are voided. ETA
argues that in striving for nationalist autonomy it is simply an organization of freedom fighters
struggling to resist what they perceive to be an illegitimate government.
ETA is a terrorist organization that has its roots in ethnic nationalism. Basque separatists have long
desired independence, based on a culture that is dramatically different from that of the Spanish.
Their language (Euskara) predates French, Spanish, German and most other Continental languages,
and their customs and traditions are unique to the area. Nationalism is a prevalent theme and dates
back to the turn of the nineteenth century when the Republican government granted autonomy to
the Basque country under the leadership of Sabina de Arana y Goiri. During the Spanish Civil War
(1936 1939) the Basque people supported the Republicans. As a result, Franco targeted them,
decimating the Basque town of Guernica, killing over a thousand people. After the war, Franco

The Roles of The National Security Enterprise
The National Security Enterprise (NSE) is the overarching government apparatus responsible for
national security decision making. This is generally thought of as the National Security Council
(NSC) and the Department and Agencies they represent. However, Roger Z George and Harvey
Rishikof point out in The National SecurityEnterprise: Navigating the Labyrinth that national
security decision making may rest with the President and the NSC but is significantly influenced by
the Modern Media (including the traditional Press), lobbyist, think tanks, and the US Congress. A
significant role for the NSE is ensuring that these different elements of government can exchange
information, share responsibilities, and collaborate to avert or at least minimize damage to U.S.
foreign and domestic interests.(George and Rishikof 2011)
The National Security Act of 1947 created the National Security Council. The National Security
Council (NSC) is the principal White House institution that is responsible for coordinating national
security strategy, advising the president on national security issues, overseeing policy
implementation through the interagency process, and responding to national security crises.
(George and Rishikof 2011) The exact make up of the National Security Council has fluctuated with
the changes in Presidential administrations. It has always consisted of the Vice President, the

The Impact Of 3d Printing On The Digital And Consumer...
1. Introduction
Additive layer manufacturing, also known as Three Dimensional (3D) printing, provides a unique
fabrication process that allows users to produce structurally complex components by the successive
fusion of layers [1]. This technique offers businesses and consumers the ability to quickly develop
custom components on demand and at a lower economical cost [2]. In 2016, a
PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) report indicates that, out of 71% of US manufactures
implementing 3D printing and 42% believe the volume of 3D printer use will increase in the next
three to five years [3].
The impact of 3D printing can already be seen in both industrial and consumer markets [2]. The
2015 Wohlers Associates report stated that 32.5% of all Additive manufactured objects were used
for functional components. Additionally, the report detailed the 3D printing industry accounted for
$5.165 billion of revenue [4]. The aviation, medical, automotive, and manufacturing industries are
currently utilizing 3D printing [4 9]. Airbus, within the aviation industry, recently produced the
world s largest 3D printed cabin component. The component produced is a dividing wall that sits
between the passenger seating and galley. General Electric is currently 3D printing jet engine fuel
nozzles and forecast that 100,000 parts will be created by their Aviation division using 3D printers
by 2020 [10]. Since 2014 NASA has been researching the ability to print on demand components in

Michael Faraday And The Chemistry World
For my term paper I have chosen to study the works of Michael Faraday, a very significant name
in the Chemistry world especially in understanding electrochemistry and electromagnetism. He had
a number of accomplishments over his career including writing a manual of practical chemistry,
discovered a large number of new organic compounds, as well as liquefying what was thought to
be a permanent solid. His largest discovery, and what I will be discussing in this paper is his
advancements in the world of electrochemistry He was at the forefront of producing electric
currents from a magnetic field, invented the first electric motor, was able to demonstrate how
electricity and chemical bonding connect, amongst and array of other accomplishments. Mr.
Michael Faradaywas born on September 22nd, 1791 in Newington Butts, Surrey (New London)
England. He was a child of James Faraday, a blacksmith from Yorkshire and Margaret Hastwell,
who worked around the house. He had three siblings (another born after him) and was born a few
months after they had moved to Newington Butts. His family was struggling when he was
younger due to his father s poor health condition but they stayed close together and attended
church; this gave them a sense of community and support behind them. Michael was able to attend
a day school where he had learned how to read, write, count, and do simple math. He did this until
he was 13 and then had to find work so he could help his family s financial issues. An

She sees it as both wonderful and terrible at the same time and sounds to be in a state of awe.
This is because she sees the sands as a metaphysical world rather than real world that Mr.
Betteredge sees as he describes how the sands really looks as they move. Rosanna goes on to
make another disturbing comment about what she believes is in the world of the sands. The
imagery in the comment she makes relates back to the suicidal ideations she herself had as she
sees others suffocating in the very place she believes she can see her grave. Yet, in the same
moment she is bringing it back to the real world as she encourages Mr. Betteredge to throw a stone
in . Upon hearing these things that Rosanna has to say about the sands, and hearing her excitement
at seeing them move and suck things into them, Mr. Betteredge is very disturbed. He recognizes
that this behavior is off, though he may not completely know what is causing it. He calls it
unwholesome talk and her mind unquiet ; but, he blames it on her not having eaten dinner yet; a

England Was Never Well Governed in the Reign of Edward...
England was never well governed in the reign of Edward 6th
How far do you agree with this?
Edward VI inherited the throne in 1547 at the infant age of 9. Because of his youth, he had two
advisors. The first was his uncle, the Duke of Somerset, who became Lord Protector, and for the
first two and a half years of Edward s reign, Somerset advised and guided the young king.
Somerset was replaced by the Duke of Northumberland. Edward was a mere figurehead, the Lord
Protector controlled the majority of his government but how well was England governed during
the reign of Edward VI for the mere 6 six years he was in power?

The abolition of chantries in 1547 under Edward allowed the money gained to help those who

this period there were disastrous economic problems. Many of them were caused by debasement.
This was where a small percentage of the value was removed from each coin as it was made and

The Act Of Resistance Of The Unseen
I believe it is better to do what pleases the real you before doing what would please a hypothetical
other. Because of this, the act of resistance that I most identify with is in Alif the Unseen, with
the choice of Dina to reject what she is supposed to do, and instead dress as she pleases. Her
decision to wear the Niqab as an expression of her devotion to sainthood, despite the fact that it
would make her worth less to others is a powerful one. Unlike Intisar, who veiled herself
elaborately as a mark of high class, Dina chose to do so to resist her expected role as the bare
faced, underpaid ornament to someone s office or nursery, and create for herself a world that
she finds beautiful (Wilson, 2012, p. 30). This relates to my life in how I reject the obligation to
always dress in a way that is expected of my gender, and instead present myself in a way that
pleases me, even if to others it may make me less valuable. Dina and I both place importance on
being our most authentic selves, even if doing so is not consistent with what our cultures would
want of us.
When I came to college, I wore my hair in long, caramel ringlets, often with a faux rose clipped in
the front. Within a few months, I donned a brushed back undercut, frequently accompanied by my
favorite button down and bow tie. I worked out as I had before; although now my goal was to
become stronger, not thinner. Soon, as many college students do, I became the proud owner of a

Nlp in English Language Teaching
ABSTRACTii
The purpose of this presentation is to determine the use of NLP in language teaching. In this study,
in the first part, some background information was given about what Neuro Linguistic
programming (NLP) is, and whether NLP was used in language teaching before. To put forward
whether NLP is effective in language teaching, general questions related to NLP are to be asked to
language teachers in questionnaires and interviews. The collected data were analyzed in tables and
graphics by using numerical system. According to the findings, the hypothesis and the results were
once more examined in the conclusion part.

NLP, with its roots in psychology and neurology, is about the way the brain works and how the
brain can be trained for the purpose of betterment. It encompasses or is related to left / right brain
functions, visual / auditory / kinesthetic learning styles, multiple intelligence and other areas of
research which are attempting to identify modes of learning whilst recognizing the importance of
the individual learner.

Here are the key features of NLP:
В•NLP is about recognizing patterns.
В•NLP is concerned with process rather than content.
В•NLP provides a model of how we communicate with ourselves and others. (Darn, 2005:1)
The name Neurolinguistic Programming might lead one to expect that it is based on the science of
Neurolinguistic and that it also draws on behaviorist theories of learning. However, in NLP neuro
refers to beliefs about the brain and how it functions: the literature on NLP does not refer to theory

of communication, one that tries to explain both verbal and nonverbal information

The Influence Of Paul In All Quiet On The Western Front
In the midst of World War One, Paul and his friends join the German Army disillusioned by the
glories it brings with it. However, Paul soon realizes the pains of wars that tear youth and joy from
men and makes a promise: to fight against the meaningless hatred that pits generations of men
against each other, if he can get out alive. Erich Maria Remarques novel, All Quiet on the Western
Front, follows Paul as he realizes that war is not all it seems and through a series of events on the
frontlines, he begins to fight against what the war stands for.
For Paul and his fellow comrades to survive the gruesomeness of the front, Paul comments how

pitiless vicious, tough (26). The gruesome training shows how Paul is changing. His original young

INTRODUCCIГ“N

Soloman Schultz Essay
My Great great Grandfather, Soloman Schultz, was part of a huge historical event that impacted
my family and its history significantly. Along with two million Russian Jews, Soloman Schultz
left Russia to get away from anti Jewish rioters called Pogroms. In 1903 when Soloman Schultz
lived in Russia, the second wave of pogroms arose. Pogroms are most often present during
periods of political crisis in a country to escape punishments or penalties from their actions
(Modern, AICE). A pogrom is an outbreak of mass violence directed against a minority religious,
ethnic, or social group (Modern, AICE). In 1903 in Russia, there were groups made up of
Christians that had organized massacres and riots against Jews. The organization of the Pogroms
was led by monarchist societies, and a group known as the Black Hundreds was the main organizer
(Modern, AICE).
The Pogroms motive towards harming Jews was caused by the Russia government and its
encouragement of anti Semitism with propaganda. The Russian government gave the Russians a
free hand to engage in anti Jewish incitement (Modern, AICE). The first of the incitements against
Jews was an attack on Passover of 1903, which left 45 Jews dead, hundreds wounded, and 1,500

Enlightenment Argument
The Enlightenment Period, otherwise known as the Age of Reason was a period in time when
intelligent individuals believed if given the ability to reason from God or nature, they would be able
to unveil truths and find answers in any proposed question (Background Essay). The Enlightenment
period started in France where thinkers from Britain, France and throughout Europe questioned the
eccentric traditional authority and took in the idea that humanity could be improved through
rational change. French philosopher Voltairewho appraised and promoted freedom of speech
believed it would lead to a stable society and was the best weapon against bad government. A new
society should prioritize the Enlightenment ideas of freedom of expression because there are
different groups of people who struggle to gain full access to speak up because of reasons including
poverty, racial discrimination and cultural pressure. Although a strong case could be made that
freedom of economics would be better to focus on, this argument is unconvincing because the
wealth would eventually be unevenly distributed, limiting freedom of the many unfortunate others
with less luxury.
To begin with, all men are created equal and independent with their own natural inalienable [life,
liberty, property] rights to have their opinions heard. Their freedom to speak up would not only
encourage social evolution, but would also lead to better ideas and promote a world with no
misunderstandings. Henry David Thoreau once

Collaborative Anthropological Theory-Making
Question: Discuss how dialogues with interlocutors during fieldwork can be formative to
anthropological theory making and debates on truth .
Introduction
This essay discusses how dialogues with interlocutors during fieldwork can be formative to
anthropological theory making and debates on truth . Lassiter in Schwartz, Saul, and Rena
Lederman (2011: 70) urges anthropologists to view themselves and their informants in an I you
relationship, a dialogue, two people next to each other reading the same text and discussing it face
to face.

These models put the anthropologist and his or her conversationalists as subjective equivalents

within the human and social sciences away from seeing the researcher as collecting and gathering
data to recognising both the researcher and the informant as active in the production of data. The
research process is a joint venture allowing for equity between researcher and informant. This does
not omit question of power and control in the research process but it recognises the importance of
establishing more fluid notions that actually work to establish informants as participants and

Analysis Of The Rapid-Eye Movement Sleep
Neil Stanley once said, Sleep is a selfish thing to do. Sleep is defined as a natural state of rest for
the body and mind. A person spends at least 1/3 of his or her lifetime asleep. When one sleeps,
the brain goes through a process that is necessary in learning, memory, and creativity in ways
that scientists do not fully understand. Sleep also protects the body and restores energy. REM
Sleep The sleep cycle has many stages. One of these stages is called REM (Rapid Eye
Movement) Sleep. During REM sleep (an active stage of sleep characterized by eye movement)
the brain works to create images and stories that form dreams. In the early 1950 s, William
Dement and some researchers were conducting one of the first systematic studies of REM sleep.
During a particular study, the researchers thought a machine started malfunctioning and was
creating the illusion that a subject s eyes were rapidly moving while he slept. They quickly ran
over to the individual and found that his eyes were in fact moving around, just as they should
when a person is awake. Dreams were often remembered if the subject was woken during REM
sleep. Dement s paper on the discovery was rejected five times before it was finally published.
Once published, his theory was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also determined that sleep helps with memory. The brain registers and stores an infinite
amount of information every day. This information flows through the hippocampus (the structure in
the limbic system that has a special role in the storage of memories). When a person sleeps, the
hippocampus keeps the important information and throws out the information not needed. The
brain creates vivid dreams which are just exaggerated versions of the information that was not
stored. With the brain free of useless information, associations can be made that were not seen

Regardless whether they are house pets or strays, animals provide a kinship by keeping humans
in touch with the world beyond themselves. Doaks even states that In order to dive into this book
completely, readers must be willing to travel beyond pastoral outdoor scenes. Due to the Great
Migration of Blacks from South to North, many African Americans grew up in or near cities
with harsh urban settings. Therefore, the poems born out of those experiences are landscape
poems, although they are not typically categorized as such. And in these urban areas insects,

the cockroaches bow their/ sad heads for us not at us/ and march single file away. Many other

some way give back to another important cause and NBB has had this approach since its origin.

has been a major contributor to how quickly success for the company has came over the years.
NBB doesn t just specifically focus on the social responsibility of their consumers but they also
focus on their employees. This is channeled through total encouraged financial transparency and
exceptional benefits. One way that the NBB encourages their employees to participate in the social
responsibility themselves is by offering paid time off. For every two hours of community service
employees are paid for one hour of work time. NBB also reaches out and supports community
charities. These charities are those that relate to energy efficient alternatives. The desire is with
community support, NBB is able to better build relationships with their consumers that will build

interact with it. Nevertheless, many artists contributed to the development of the virtual reality
afterwards. Scott Fisher, who was inspired by Heilig s ideas, pushed the boundaries of the virtual
reality, to give the user more control over his experience. In this essay, I will be comparing
between the two artists and their ideas, and the way they contributed to the creation and
development of this form of art.

In other words, the user s body was coupled with the machine, which changed the user experience
from just sensing the elements from outside the virtual world, to existing in the virtual world and
having the ability to make changes physically.
In Fisher s earlier work Aspen Movie Map, and then in the head mounted viewer and glove, he gave
the user the ability to move and independently change their point of view and navigate through the
virtual environment, unlike Heilig s Sensorama where the user was locked in the machine and has
no control over anything.
Morton Heilig was the first to explore the concept of virtual reality, and is considered to be the
father and the creator of this field, even though his theories and ideas were not heard or given
much attention, he inspired a lot of artists and engineer who came after him. Scott Fisher, who was
inspired by Heiligs work and ideas, developed the concept of virtual reality, into virtual immersive
environments and achieved the telepresence in his work. Thanks to those people, this field of
digital art is constantly developing and used in many different

Effects Of The Reformation In The 16th And 17th Century
I believe the single biggest pressure that caused the most issues for England in the 16th and 17th
century relate to the Reformation. The Reformation effected everyone in the country as they
were forced into a new religion headed by the King. It drastically changed people s lives and it s
no wonder why the change wasn t fully accepted for a long time. Rapid population increase
caused a significant strain on the country as they needed to develop new ways to feed everyone.
The abolishment of common lands in favor of enclosure agriculture strained the poorest people
in the country. All of these created mass amounts of tension and stress within a society
transitioning into an economic power. In 1534, the English Parliament passed the Act of
Supremacy effectively placing Henry the 8th as the head of the English Church. His royal
prerogative was extended to deciding the religion in which the country would follow. The need
of a male heir played a significant role in this decision, along with the opinions of many
throughout the Christian world that Catholic Church was corrupt beyond repair. The event left
the English citizens in a state of disbelief and resentment as their whole lives seemed to be
turned upside down. There would be a number of consequences resulting from the Reformation.
For starters the government began dissolving the monasteries which provided a number of
services to their communities around them, such as education and several acted as hospitals. The
King attempted to compensate for these lost services by establishing public services to his
citizens with the money he was gaining from the land he acquired from the monasteries.
Unfortunately the money was poorly spend and did not adequately replace the services of the
monasteries. Adding on to this a large chunk of the population refused to follow the newly
created church. Several clergymen who didn t recognize Henry as the new head of the church
were executed for not swearing loyalty to him. Furthermore thousands of people would rise up
through the years in rebellion against the state for the reason of religion. The Pilgrimage of Grace
for example rose to 40,000 people demanding the Supremacy Act be reversed as well as punishing
the officials

rol de gГ©nero, actos sexuales, orientaciГіn y aspectos de placer, intimidad y reproducciГіn.

The Process of an Internal Combustion Engine
Matt Bagley
English 110
Process Essay
Process of a 4 stroke Internal Combustion Engine
A common phrase that is heard whilst growing up is curiosity killed the cat . This phrase might
be true but; ingenuity brought the cat back . Having a mindset in which giving up is never an
option has plagued most inventors of the modern day, especially a high school drop out named
Nikolaus August Otto, born in 1832. Otto was responsible for the development and improvement
of the 4 stroke motor that is used today in just about every automobile on the road. Many people
drive cars but fail to realize how they work, and don t try to learn about engines because they think
it is complex, and not an easy concept to grasp. Air, fuel, spark, and... Show more content on

All of this pressure against the piston forces it down in the cylinder. The power impulse is
transmitted down through the piston, through the piston rod (connecting rod), and to the crankshaft.
The crankshaft is rotated due to the force.
В•As the piston reaches the bottom of its travel, the exhaust valve opens. Now, as the piston moves
up on the exhaust stroke, it forces the burned gases out of the cylinder through the exhaust port.
When the piston reaches the top of its travel, the exhaust valve closes, and the intake valve opens.
The cycle repeats again with the intake stroke. The four strokes are continuously repeated during
the operation of the engine

DEET Research Paper
To begin with, I believe DEET is one of the most affective ways to repel mosquitos. Some do not
agree, as they believe DEET is a harmful chemical. I will explain why I think that DEET is one
of the best mosquito repellents. DEET is shorthand for the chemical name N,N diethyl meta
toluamide and is the active ingredient in most insect repellents. It has been used for over 60 years,
by over 50 million people. Dr. Mustapha Debboun, who is director of the mosquito control division
of Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services in Houston, says ВЁDEET is the
standardВЁ. Meaning that DEET is the highest quality there is for bug spray. Dr. Dan Strickman,
who is with the Global Health Program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation... Show more

When applied to certain materials, DEET can be damaging, which is concerning as it is
approved for use on human skin. DEET can damage rubber, plastic, vinyl, lenses and synthetic
fibers. The people who are against it claim that if DEET is that damaging to other things, think
about what it might be doing to us. According to the writer Francie Diep from Popular Science,
ВЁIn all of scientific literature since 1957, when DEET first appeared on store shelves
researchers have reported 14 cases of kids who suffered encephalopathy, including seizures, after
using DEET on their skin. All but one were kids under age 8. Three children died. The others
recovered fully. In each of the cases, it was difficult to determine whether DEET caused the brain
symptoms. The kids could have been exposed to other things, but it could have been the DEET,
too.ВЁ However, I still stand by my opinion that DEET is the best. There have been studies that
show proof that DEET has no adverse affects. Many doctors agree that itВґs one of the best ways to
repel the nasty blood suckers. Consequently if people somehow start dying or getting cancer or
mutating into weird stuff from using DEET, I will stop using it and use an alternative. However,
since it has not been proven to have those side effects, I will forever use bug spray that contains
DEET because the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, which are not even proven

The European Union and a Divided Cyprus Essay
The Implications for the European Union of Cyprus being divided between Turkey and Greece
The island of Cyprus is the third largest in the Mediterranean with the 2002 population around
705,5000. Its main economic activities include banking, craft exports, merchant shipping, and
tourism, which accounts for twenty percent of business (europa.eu.int). For almost thirty years it
has been split between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. The ongoing feud between the two
groups and the split of the island in 1974 has lead to much political tension in Europe, especially
with the European Union expanding its membership and adding, as of now, only half of the island
of Cyprus in May 2004.

The north side is referred to as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, but is only recognized
as a country by Turkey (europa.eu.int). While the Greek side has much prosperity and low
unemployment rates, the Turkish side has much poverty and is underdeveloped (The Economist
March 15 21 2003). There have been numerous efforts at peace since the 1970s, but none have
worked (eubusiness.com 11/4/2003). The summer of 1996 is an example of this, when there were
many incidents of hostility among the line between the two sides, leaving several dead
(europarl.eu.int). In July of 1990 the Republic of Cyprus applied for membership to the European
Union in the name of the entire island (europa.eu.int). The European Union agreed to admit
Cyprus, along with nine other candidates into the union in 2004 (The Economist Jan 18 24
2003). This accession to the Union was unanimously approved by Cypriot parliament
(eubusiness.com 11/4/2003). Cyprus has always been considered ?European.? It has been a full
member of the Council of Europe since 1961 and has concluded an Association Agreement with
Eruopean Economic Community in 1972 (kypros.org). However, now leaders of the north side of
Cyprus are not cooperating, so when time comes for Cyprus to join the Union, the Greek Cypriot
side may be the only part of the island joining.?

Currently, a settlement is trying to be reached between the two halves of Cyprus. The United
Nations proposed that part of Turkey?s land

My Group Presentation During Week 10
My group presentation during week 10 was around the topic of women at work and more
specifically maternity and paternity leave. A common perception of teamwork is that you either
have a group that that works well together and finishes the assignment ahead of time or you have
group where there is little communication and the assignment is a last minute activity resulting in a
grade that is truly reflective of the effort and time taken. Fortunately for myself the group that was
formed for this assignment worked well together and produced an exceptional presentation. I enjoy
teamwork as it allows for ideas to be bounced off one another and a better understanding of issues
and problems to be well comprehended.
As well as being a chance to incorporate individuals talents within presentation new skills and
the development of existing skills. Personally I feel as though I have a good level of skill for
presenting an idea however I lack in the preparation are of a presentation I prefer to present
something to an audience rather than find and conduct research for a presentation. However the
other people in my group were good at finding information and crafting a brief outline around the
presentation. This worked quite well for our group as we had a couple of confident speakers whom
brought the presentation together. Where others succeeded in producing and finding evidence to
back up our stated methods in which work should be done.
The topic of maternity leave and paternity leave

401 Plan Should Not Be The Retirement Options
Employer matched 401k plan should not be the only retirement options people have its one of a
few. Company pensions are almost a thing of the past many companies are doing away with this
benefit due to cost associated with maintaining this plan. Today most people don t even stay at a job
longer than five years, with this type of turnaround it would make it that much more costly to an
organization to maintain this benefit. The key to addressing the retirementneeds of your employees
it to educate them. By providing educational retirement workshops the employee will be better
equip in making informed decisions about retirement. We all know it s never early to plan for
retirement the earlier the better. Young people as young as twenty should have a retirement plan
already under way, when you are educated and informed you put yourself in a better position in the
long run. As the HR professional in charge of informing the employees I would have a meeting
broken into groups by departments. At the meeting I will explain our company s retirement options
company wide. Literature should be distributed explaining the plan how it works and what to
expect when that time comes. Keeping the lines of communication open with the employees is
essential; the employee should understand fully all aspects of the employer sponsored retirement
plans.

Essay On Health Disparity In African American Men
The higher incidence of prostate cancer in African American/Black men compared to other racial
/ethnic groups is a major health disparity. The statistics surrounding this health disparity are scary,
with African American men having a prostate cancer mortality rate twice as high as whites and a
prostate cancerincidence two thirds higher (Modlin, 2012). The health disparity of African
American men s incidence of prostate canceris a huge problem from a public health perspective
because it makes African American men less productive, there are higher costs in the healthcare
field than would be if the gap didn t exist, and a loss of sense of control from African American men
because of financial concerns/aftermath of treatment. One behavioral influence... Show more

A biological influence on this health disparity is a genetic predisposition seen in African
American men. Several studies have shown a chromosome that is more common in African
American men that increases the risk of prostate cancer. The chromosome is 8q24 variants,
which is the most commonly seen, as well as, BCL2 and EphB2 linking to a higher incidence of
prostate cancer (Modlin, 2012). The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate
cancer to be a more aggressive disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality
rates. The behavioral influence of being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a
genetic predisposition interact to influence the health disparity. There is no way of changing the
genetic predisposition so that already puts African American men in a place for higher incidence.
Being they already have that higher incidence due to genetics, adding into the equation African
Americans being less likely to be screened only makes the health disparity

To let the liver function properly it is important to detect cirrhosis in early stage. Now a days several noninvasive imaging techniques have been developed recently for detection of liver cirrhosis such as CT, USG, MRI. In this paper we have used CT scan images of liver cirrhosis and applied some statistical operations on those CT images such as mean, median, standard deviation and mode. II. Methodology:CT scans are challenging because of the different image characteristics that must be considered. Here we will be considering the statistical features of a CT scan of liver which is having liver cirrhosis as a disease. The methodology followed is given below: Fig.1 Flow Chart of Methodology Used (1).Image Acquisition : To get an image of which you want to extract some features. (2).Image Preprocessing : It is common practice to perform preprocessing on acquired CT scan images before extracting the features of images. Here we have applied the statistical operation on the preprocessed images After acquiring the image various preprocessing methods can be apply. In the lead up to the Cuban Missile Crisis, the US governments intention was to have Castro overthrown. However Castro had both the political military support of the Soviet Union and started receiving secret shipments of Soviet arms. On the 14th October 1962 during a routine mission over Cuba, a spy plane obtained pictures confirming the presence of nuclear missiles. As the Soviet Union continued to spread through Eastern Europe, America feared for their safety and freedom. American citizens were worried their way of life and what defined them as a nation would be taken away by communist nations, with Russia being the most threatening. After WW11, the depression ended and for the first time in decades the economy was at its best. However the communists were still a threat and had the potential to completely change the American way of life. As the Cold War continued, the possible threat of nuclear war sent America into paranoia. Bomb shelters were built in every new home; people began to stockpile foods in case they were required to stay in the shelters for a length of time. Emergency procedures were put in place and practice runs carried out at home and schools. The decisions made by President Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis could have been the turning point in the capitalism that Americans were accustomed to and given them a taste of communism. Criminal Justice in my substantial belief is all about a system that s brought up by law for bringing the people in society to justice. Criminal Justice is distinct from criminal law, which I believe defines the specific behaviors that are forbidden by and punishable under law. Well if you ask me, I believe, in my opinion that a police officer is a person that focuses on protecting the people and bring forth criminals that break the law. Police officers are in charge of enforcing laws within their city. If you go to a neighboring city, say like Chicago, that city has its own police force. Police officers are often charged with the criminals and detection of crime, protection and assistance of the public. Police officers are normally sworn with an oath, and have the power to arrest people and detain them for a limited time, along with other duties and powers. Some police officers may have special duties, for example, such as law enforcement. The reason why they play apart in law enforcement is because police officers are those who are empowered by the government to enforce the laws. Police officers play a certain central role in the law enforcement system, like monitoring criminal activity. Cultures can get so wrapped up in their beliefs and traditions that they come to think anything different is wrong. As expressed in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart and Julie Otsuka s from When the Emperor Was Divine this judgment leads to fear, that is responsible for the destruction of cultures and relationships. In from When the Emperor Was Divine , the Americans judge the Japanese as a whole as hostile because of the actions of a select few, which in turn leads them to punish the whole Japanese American population out of fear, and place them in internment camps. The Americans become so fearful of the Japanese that they kill them without any real reason, which is shown when Otsuka writes The guard who was on duty said the man had been trying to escape...Friends of the dead man said he had simply been taking his dog for a walk (554). The people the Americans were punishing were harmless, yet they were ridiculed because of the fact that the Americans didn t take time to figure out that they were harmless. In Things Fall Apart, the white men feel that they are pacifying the primitive tribes of the lower Niger by instilling their beliefs into the tribes and civilizing them (Achebe 209). They do not take time to really understand the Ibo culture, but instead are firmly set in the belief that they are right and the Ibo culture is wrong and needs to be destroyed. Mary has lived in a room all her life where the world seems to be black and white. Mary has the ability to see color she just does not have any color to see as she is only exposed to black and white in her room. Mary learns all the physical facts about color, how human eye sees and interacts with color and how the brain processes the visual stimuli, provided by the textbook she has in her room. At this point, it is clear that Mary knows all of the scientific and physical facts about the color, but one day when she finally escapes her black and white world and steps out of her room for the first time, she encounters a red tomato, she learns something... Physicalism is the belief that all facts are physical facts . Physical facts are facts about the world that we can learn in science text books. The Year Of The Flood In Margaret Atwood s novel The Year of the Flood, several saints are mentioned during Adam Ones speech for Pollination Day namely Saint Suryamani Bhagat of India, among so many others, because of her contributions to forest preservation (Atwood 276). Atwood may have chosen to incorporate Bhagat, an environmental activist, as a saint in her novel considering that The Gardeners had devoted this festival to the mysteries of plant reproduction, especially that of those wondrous trees, the angiosperms, with special emphasis upon the Drupes and the Pomaceous Fruits which matches with the work Bhagat has been undertaking to counter climate change(Atwood 276). Although more than half of Suryamani Bhagat s life is still before her, extrapolating from her current and past deeds it can be anticipated that she will continue to stand as a servant of God due to her immense beliefs and rigorous efforts to combat deforestation for the welfare of the community; live a life of heroic virtue as she fights to preserve her culture and property rights of her people; remain praised and idolized in her community for her accomplishments and facilitate yet more miracles such as obligating the government to accept, honor and fulfil the demands of her tribeas well as facilitating the astonishing increment in female literacy in the area; for those reasons, in addition to the fact that Bhagat also mirrors the characteristics of the gardeners and shares a similar background story with Toby, Margret ... Freud Vs Frankl And Freud Running Head: COMPARITIVE PERSONALITY THEORIES OF SIGMUND FREUD AND VIKTOR FRANKL Comparative Personality Theories of Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl Luke McGeeney William James College For my comparison, I ll be looking at the theories of Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl, the creators of both the first and third Viennese Schools of Psychotherapy, respectively. To begin with, I ll examine Frankl s theory of existential analysis known as logotherapy. Logotherapy states that we as human beings are conscious creatures, responsible for our choices and decisions in life. Frankl proposed a dualistic view of human nature, which claimed that the unconscious is home to both sides of humanity, with instinctual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are meant to become our truest selves by finding meaning in our lives, which, according to Frankl, can come from three places: work, love, and our attitude in the face of horrific suffering or difficulty. And at the center of this meaning is our responsibility and human right to choose. In Frankl s theory, we all strive to fulfill a self chosen goal, from which meaning has the potential to be found. And if no meaning is found, there is meaning yet to be found, or meaning to be drawn from the apparent lack of meaning. Whatever the case, Frankl viewed man s lack of meaning as the greatest existential crisis, the stress of this meaninglessness giving life and shape to all of our neuroses. This will to meaning is the culmination of our developmental process. To cultivate an individual s capacity to find meaning in their life is the greatest goal, and the source of mankind s anxiety and neuroses. We all wish to find the meaning within our life, and are unfulfilled when we miss the mark. But according to Frankl, there is always meaning in life, in every single moment, from one to the next we all are capable of making a choice about ourselves, and beyond that, have a responsibility to do so. Even with the transitory nature of our existence and hopelessness in the face of certain death, there is still meaning to be found, there is still freedom to be earned. Janice Tester (Career advisor, McGill University) Janice Tester has been working as a Career Advisor for McGill Career planning Service Office (CaPS) for over 17 years. In 2014, I started to serve as a peer educator in CaPS office and Janice became my supervisor since then. Despite the fact that we worked closely together in the past two years, I never get a chance to know her accomplishments in the job and how she perceive her work. This became my initial motivation to interview her. Another reason is that, given the importance of career advising service in McGill, its performance is difficult to evaluate. A throughout analysis on this position can be helpful for its performance improvement. Several expectations for this position were developed during my working in CaPS. Firstly, I expected career advisors to be business orientated, with backgrounds in human resource management. Secondly, since their works involve mostly one on one consulting with students, interactions with colleagues are limited and unnecessary. Thirdly, I expected that, career advisors enjoy a high level of initiative. Instead of taking commands directly from their supervisor, they have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people have the option between choosing to be brave and choosing to be a coward. One of the main things that differentiates the two is that one who is brave is willing to face and endure pain or danger for the better of people around them. A coward however, is someone who lacks the courage to overcome their obstacles and instead of confronting their dangers, they run for them. A hero... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After killing the Minotaur, Theseus returns to Athens with an overwhelming sense of triumph and pride. It states, It was a joyous ship that sailed northward from Crete to Athens. There was feasting and dancing night and day. And every young man aboard felt himself a hero too, and every maiden a princess, (Evslin 170). He gave several young men and women their lives back and the opportunities that would ve been taken away from them had the Minotaur still been alive. Additionally, with the Minotaur gone, any potential candidates for the sacrifices would be safe as well. This led to much relief and joy among the Athenians. Moreover, upon his return to Athens, Theseus was hailed as king...people worshipped him. He swiftly raised an army, wiped out his powerful cousins, and then led the Athenians forth into many battles, binding all the cities of Greece together in an alliance, (Evslin 171). With this newfound power and support, he made Athens the amazing city that we know today by purging it of those who were responsible for its terrible condition. • 18. ETA is a Terrorist Organization with Roots in Ethnic... ETA Discursive Essay: From 1959 until 2010, Euskadi Ta Aaskatasuna or ETA has been fighting for autonomy in the Basque region on the border between Spain and France. ETA hopes to achieve political and cultural independence. However, it utilizes terror and violent intimidation to undermine existing governments. It is a terrorist organization that with military style precision inflicts maximum damage in an attempt to realize its nationalist ideals. Cease fires and negotiations are voided. ETA argues that in striving for nationalist autonomy it is simply an organization of freedom fighters struggling to resist what they perceive to be an illegitimate government. ETA is a terrorist organization that has its roots in ethnic nationalism. Basque separatists have long desired independence, based on a culture that is dramatically different from that of the Spanish. Their language (Euskara) predates French, Spanish, German and most other Continental languages, and their customs and traditions are unique to the area. Nationalism is a prevalent theme and dates back to the turn of the nineteenth century when the Republican government granted autonomy to the Basque country under the leadership of Sabina de Arana y Goiri. During the Spanish Civil War (1936 1939) the Basque people supported the Republicans. As a result, Franco targeted them, decimating the Basque town of Guernica, killing over a thousand people. • 20. The Roles of The National Security Enterprise The National Security Enterprise (NSE) is the overarching government apparatus responsible for national security decision making. This is generally thought of as the National Security Council (NSC) and the Department and Agencies they represent. However, Roger Z George and Harvey Rishikof point out in The National SecurityEnterprise: Navigating the Labyrinth that national security decision making may rest with the President and the NSC but is significantly influenced by the Modern Media (including the traditional Press), lobbyist, think tanks, and the US Congress. A significant role for the NSE is ensuring that these different elements of government can exchange information, share responsibilities, and collaborate to avert or at least minimize damage to U.S. foreign and domestic interests.(George and Rishikof 2011) The National Security Act of 1947 created the National Security Council. The National Security Council (NSC) is the principal White House institution that is responsible for coordinating national security strategy, advising the president on national security issues, overseeing policy implementation through the interagency process, and responding to national security crises. (George and Rishikof 2011) The exact make up of the National Security Council has fluctuated with the changes in Presidential administrations. Introduction Additive layer manufacturing, also known as Three Dimensional (3D) printing, provides a unique fabrication process that allows users to produce structurally complex components by the successive fusion of layers [1]. This technique offers businesses and consumers the ability to quickly develop custom components on demand and at a lower economical cost [2]. In 2016, a PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) report indicates that, out of 71% of US manufactures implementing 3D printing and 42% believe the volume of 3D printer use will increase in the next three to five years [3]. The impact of 3D printing can already be seen in both industrial and consumer markets [2]. The 2015 Wohlers Associates report stated that 32.5% of all Additive manufactured objects were used for functional components. Additionally, the report detailed the 3D printing industry accounted for $5.165 billion of revenue [4]. The aviation, medical, automotive, and manufacturing industries are currently utilizing 3D printing [4 9]. Airbus, within the aviation industry, recently produced the world s largest 3D printed cabin component. The component produced is a dividing wall that sits between the passenger seating and galley. General Electric is currently 3D printing jet engine fuel nozzles and forecast that 100,000 parts will be created by their Aviation division using 3D printers by 2020 [10]. Michael Faraday And The Chemistry World For my term paper I have chosen to study the works of Michael Faraday, a very significant name in the Chemistry world especially in understanding electrochemistry and electromagnetism. He had a number of accomplishments over his career including writing a manual of practical chemistry, discovered a large number of new organic compounds, as well as liquefying what was thought to be a permanent solid. His largest discovery, and what I will be discussing in this paper is his advancements in the world of electrochemistry He was at the forefront of producing electric currents from a magnetic field, invented the first electric motor, was able to demonstrate how electricity and chemical bonding connect, amongst and array of other accomplishments. Mr. Michael Faradaywas born on September 22nd, 1791 in Newington Butts, Surrey (New London) England. He was a child of James Faraday, a blacksmith from Yorkshire and Margaret Hastwell, who worked around the house. He had three siblings (another born after him) and was born a few months after they had moved to Newington Butts. His family was struggling when he was younger due to his father s poor health condition but they stayed close together and attended church; this gave them a sense of community and support behind them. Michael was able to attend a day school where he had learned how to read, write, count, and do simple math. He did this until he was 13 and then had to find work so he could help his family s financial issues. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of this, the act of resistance that I most identify with is in Alif the Unseen, with the choice of Dina to reject what she is supposed to do, and instead dress as she pleases. Her decision to wear the Niqab as an expression of her devotion to sainthood, despite the fact that it would make her worth less to others is a powerful one. Unlike Intisar, who veiled herself elaborately as a mark of high class, Dina chose to do so to resist her expected role as the bare faced, underpaid ornament to someone s office or nursery, and create for herself a world that she finds beautiful (Wilson, 2012, p. 30). This relates to my life in how I reject the obligation to always dress in a way that is expected of my gender, and instead present myself in a way that pleases me, even if to others it may make me less valuable. Dina and I both place importance on being our most authentic selves, even if doing so is not consistent with what our cultures would want of us. When I came to college, I wore my hair in long, caramel ringlets, often with a faux rose clipped in the front. Within a few months, I donned a brushed back undercut, frequently accompanied by my favorite button down and bow tie. Along with two million Russian Jews, Soloman Schultz left Russia to get away from anti Jewish rioters called Pogroms. In 1903 when Soloman Schultz lived in Russia, the second wave of pogroms arose. Pogroms are most often present during periods of political crisis in a country to escape punishments or penalties from their actions (Modern, AICE). A pogrom is an outbreak of mass violence directed against a minority religious, ethnic, or social group (Modern, AICE). In 1903 in Russia, there were groups made up of Christians that had organized massacres and riots against Jews. The organization of the Pogroms was led by monarchist societies, and a group known as the Black Hundreds was the main organizer (Modern, AICE). The Pogroms motive towards harming Jews was caused by the Russia government and its encouragement of anti Semitism with propaganda. Enlightenment Argument The Enlightenment Period, otherwise known as the Age of Reason was a period in time when intelligent individuals believed if given the ability to reason from God or nature, they would be able to unveil truths and find answers in any proposed question (Background Essay). The Enlightenment period started in France where thinkers from Britain, France and throughout Europe questioned the eccentric traditional authority and took in the idea that humanity could be improved through rational change. French philosopher Voltairewho appraised and promoted freedom of speech believed it would lead to a stable society and was the best weapon against bad government. A new society should prioritize the Enlightenment ideas of freedom of expression because there are different groups of people who struggle to gain full access to speak up because of reasons including poverty, racial discrimination and cultural pressure. Although a strong case could be made that freedom of economics would be better to focus on, this argument is unconvincing because the wealth would eventually be unevenly distributed, limiting freedom of the many unfortunate others with less luxury. To begin with, all men are created equal and independent with their own natural inalienable [life, liberty, property] rights to have their opinions heard. • 40. Analysis Of The Rapid-Eye Movement Sleep Neil Stanley once said, Sleep is a selfish thing to do. Sleep is defined as a natural state of rest for the body and mind. A person spends at least 1/3 of his or her lifetime asleep. When one sleeps, the brain goes through a process that is necessary in learning, memory, and creativity in ways that scientists do not fully understand. Sleep also protects the body and restores energy. REM Sleep The sleep cycle has many stages. One of these stages is called REM (Rapid Eye Movement) Sleep. During REM sleep (an active stage of sleep characterized by eye movement) the brain works to create images and stories that form dreams. In the early 1950 s, William Dement and some researchers were conducting one of the first systematic studies of REM sleep. During a particular study, the researchers thought a machine started malfunctioning and was creating the illusion that a subject s eyes were rapidly moving while he slept. They quickly ran over to the individual and found that his eyes were in fact moving around, just as they should when a person is awake. Dreams were often remembered if the subject was woken during REM sleep. Dement s paper on the discovery was rejected five times before it was finally published. Once published, his theory was... With an incredible amount of attention and detail to social, political, race, and resistance motifs, a fundamental aspect of African American poetry that is forgotten is the focus of nature. The anthology Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Poetryedited by Camille T. Dungy focuses on nature as a way to engage with past horrors and hardships and see the hope and promise of new life. In this anthology, Dungy collects one hundred eighty poems from ninety three poets that give fresh and unique perspectives on American social and literary history to expand what the concept of nature poetry... Doaks even states that In order to dive into this book completely, readers must be willing to travel beyond pastoral outdoor scenes. Due to the Great Migration of Blacks from South to North, many African Americans grew up in or near cities with harsh urban settings. Therefore, the poems born out of those experiences are landscape poems, although they are not typically categorized as such. And in these urban areas insects, rodents and animals co habitate with humans (Doaks 241). Cycle four in Black Nature Pest, People Too speak about the power dynamic between humans, pets, and otherworldly creatures. Poems in this cycle warn readers that if the connection between the human world and animals are detached, human life will fall into an accelerating stillness. In Lucille Clifton s poem the beginning of the end of the world she suggests that the end of the world will be guided in when the cockroaches bow their/ sad heads for us not at us/ and march single file away. Many other poets in this cycle pull connections between African Americans, insects, birds, and other trivialized creatures. This field of digital art was originally explored and created by Morton Heilig, who thought of extending the cinematic experience to something that would involve the human senses and enable them to interact with it. Scott Fisher, who was inspired by Heilig s ideas, pushed the boundaries of the virtual reality, to give the user more control over his experience. • 46. Effects Of The Reformation In The 16th And 17th Century I believe the single biggest pressure that caused the most issues for England in the 16th and 17th century relate to the Reformation. The Reformation effected everyone in the country as they were forced into a new religion headed by the King. It drastically changed people s lives and it s no wonder why the change wasn t fully accepted for a long time. Rapid population increase caused a significant strain on the country as they needed to develop new ways to feed everyone. The abolishment of common lands in favor of enclosure agriculture strained the poorest people in the country. All of these created mass amounts of tension and stress within a society transitioning into an economic power. In 1534, the English Parliament passed the Act of Supremacy effectively placing Henry the 8th as the head of the English Church. His royal prerogative was extended to deciding the religion in which the country would follow. The need of a male heir played a significant role in this decision, along with the opinions of many throughout the Christian world that Catholic Church was corrupt beyond repair. The event left the English citizens in a state of disbelief and resentment as their whole lives seemed to be turned upside down. There would be a number of consequences resulting from the Reformation. For starters the government began dissolving the monasteries which provided a number of services to their communities around them, such as education and several acted as hospitals. The King attempted to compensate for these lost services by establishing public services to his citizens with the money he was gaining from the land he acquired from the monasteries. Unfortunately the money was poorly spend and did not adequately replace the services of the monasteries. Adding on to this a large chunk of the population refused to follow the newly created church. Several clergymen who didn t recognize Henry as the new head of the church were executed for not swearing loyalty to him. Furthermore thousands of people would rise up through the years in rebellion against the state for the reason of religion. The Pilgrimage of Grace for example rose to 40,000 people demanding the Supremacy Act be reversed as well as punishing the officials ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will explain why I think that DEET is one of the best mosquito repellents. DEET is shorthand for the chemical name N,N diethyl meta toluamide and is the active ingredient in most insect repellents. It has been used for over 60 years, by over 50 million people. DEET can damage rubber, plastic, vinyl, lenses and synthetic fibers. The people who are against it claim that if DEET is that damaging to other things, think about what it might be doing to us. According to the writer Francie Diep from Popular Science, ВЁIn all of scientific literature since 1957, when DEET first appeared on store shelves researchers have reported 14 cases of kids who suffered encephalopathy, including seizures, after using DEET on their skin. All but one were kids under age 8. Three children died. The others recovered fully. In each of the cases, it was difficult to determine whether DEET caused the brain symptoms. The kids could have been exposed to other things, but it could have been the DEET, too.ВЁ However, I still stand by my opinion that DEET is the best. There have been studies that show proof that DEET has no adverse affects. Many doctors agree that itВґs one of the best ways to repel the nasty blood suckers. Consequently if people somehow start dying or getting cancer or mutating into weird stuff from using DEET, I will stop using it and use an alternative. There have been numerous efforts at peace since the 1970s, but none have worked (eubusiness.com 11/4/2003). The summer of 1996 is an example of this, when there were many incidents of hostility among the line between the two sides, leaving several dead (europarl.eu.int). A common perception of teamwork is that you either have a group that that works well together and finishes the assignment ahead of time or you have group where there is little communication and the assignment is a last minute activity resulting in a grade that is truly reflective of the effort and time taken. Fortunately for myself the group that was formed for this assignment worked well together and produced an exceptional presentation. The statistics surrounding this health disparity are scary, with African American men having a prostate cancer mortality rate twice as high as whites and a prostate cancerincidence two thirds higher (Modlin, 2012). The health disparity of African American men s incidence of prostate canceris a huge problem from a public health perspective because it makes African American men less productive, there are higher costs in the healthcare field than would be if the gap didn t exist, and a loss of sense of control from African American men because of financial concerns/aftermath of treatment. The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate cancer to be a more aggressive disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality rates. The behavioral influence of being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a genetic predisposition interact to influence the health disparity.
