Research Paper On Communicative Language Teaching
Communicative Language Teaching
Communicative language teaching is an approach to develop communicative competence by
establishing real life situations. I want to explain the communicative competence. It is a
terminology introduced by Dell Hymes, which refers to the ability to use and interpret the language
appropriately and effectively according to where, whom, when and why you are talking to. The
writers explain the communicative language teaching differently in their articles from the others.
The articles in the ELT Journal offer interesting debates on CLT. On one side, Bax (2003) proposes
that CLT should be abandoned since the methodology fails to take into account the context of
language teaching. On the other side, Liao (2004) suggests ... Show more content on

Therefore the lesson may focus on a variety of linguistic forms to teach how to carry out a
function. The culture is daily life of the native speakers. Non verbal behavior the body language has
a significant role in teaching culture since it may change from culture to culture. Meaning is central
to learning the language. It should be conveyed through visual aids realia model sentences and
context. The students first language is very rarely used since the medium of instruction is in the
target language. The students need as much exposure to the target language as they can get in order
to become successful learners of that language. This is supported by considerable evidence both the
quantity and quality of target language input are crucial factors in foreign second language
learning.( Richards, Jack. 2002) Communicative language teaching can be said to have several
benefits and strong aspects for language teaching and learning. For one thing it established real life
social situations where the students have the chance to interact in the target language practicing the
meaning function relationship therefore the students can learn to speak the target language fluently
expressing their own thoughts and ideas more easily

Purpose Of The Xingyiquan
Qi is energy that is moving around in the meridians of our body. The meridians are throughout
the body and they correspond to certain internal organs. The purpose of the meridian points was
for acupuncture and moxibustion. If one were to prick the meridian points, instead of getting
rid of the pain, the disease would worsen it. They could also be used as a deadly weapon, if you
hit the right meridian at the precise point. Qi is found in the lower abdomen and it passes through
the whole body. Qi is used in medicinal by letting energy flow through the body and it also fight
against illnesses. Qi is also used in fighting because it would help with either creating a resistance
towards something or it will help with using full force in a battle. The vital points are... Show more

The movements of Xing are linear and you focus yourself on the body and make come together.
This martial arts relates to the vital points because they both want the same thing, that is to be
used as a weapon. The vital points are throughout the body and they connect to certain organs,
depending which point the person is striking. Xingyquan is used in combat and the vital points
are also used to an advantage to weaken and or do damage to an opponent. According to the
Bubishi article, Chen Yuabin used the striking of the vital points to fight off against the
attackers. From the past few years, it s used a self defense. The Xingyquan is well known for
using the spear and the fists come from using the spear. The spear is a long shaft that has a very
pointy tip. Now this is a similar way on how Zhan Sanfeng used to train. He would use needles
on the Bronze Man and liquid would come out if the correct vital point was hit. Then later on,
instead of needles they would carry writing brushes or fans that were made of iron or bamboo. In
both cases they used objects with small points to strike the

Recreational Vehicle Industry Analysis
The Recreational Vehicle Industry
MGT 698
5 October 2011
For most people, the recreational vehicle (RV) industry is a large subject to wrap their heads
around due to the rather vast array of products associated with the term recreational vehicle . When
conducting web searches for information regarding the recreational vehicle industry I found it a
little bit overwhelming in that it contained everything from a Ski Doo Grand Touring luxury snow
machine to a 27 Peterbilt 379X with a custom 53 Elite tri axle car hauler/conversion apartment
sleeper. To narrow, and better define, this industry the definition of recreational vehicle will be a
motorized or towable vehicle that incorporates living spaces and home like amenities.

Of the 900 companies involved in this industry only the top 20 manufacturers hold 80% of the
total market which includes approximately $10 billion in sales. The major manufacturers all
produce numerous models of both motorhomes and travel trailers and utilize easily
reconfigurable production assembly lines with relatively small production runs per model.
Dealer orders are the catalyst to reconfigure assembly lines and produce individual models. In
2008 and 2009 orders and sales were low, but like a lot of other industries 2010 saw a very robust
growth spurt totaling 46.2% over the previous two years. Total shipments were reported at
243,000 units which encompassed a retail value increase of 69.5%, more than $8.7 billion.
Even further, Richard Curtain has predicted through analysis conducted by his economic
research team at the University of Michigan that RV shipments will increase 7.4% in 2011 over
the previous year. This is due to the customer base that this market is able to bring to the table.
Not long ago the customer base was strictly wealthier, retired couples over the age of 55 years old
but the current customer profile has ownership of RV s spread across all tiers of age with the
highest percentile being in the range of 35 54 year old couples with an average of three vehicles
and an average household income of $70,000. As quoted on a popular RV ing

Atmosphere
The term atmosphere is described by Wikipedia as An atmosphere (New Latin atmosphaera, created
in the 17th century from Greek бјЂП„ОјПЊП‚ [atmos] vapor and ПѓП†О±бї–ПЃО± [sphaira]
sphere ) is a layer of gases that may surround a material body of sufficient mass and that is held in
place by the gravity of the body. An atmospheremay be retained for a longer duration, if the gravity
is high and the atmosphere s temperature is low. Some planets consist mainly of various gases, but
only their outer layer is their atmosphere.
Air is mainly composed of nitrogen, oxygen, and argon, which together constitute the major gases
of the atmosphere. The remaining gases are often referred to as trace gases, ... Show more content

It is stratified in temperature, with warmer layers higher up and cooler layers farther down. This is
in contrast to the troposphere near the Earth s surface, which is cooler higher up and warmer farther
down. The border of the troposphere and stratosphere, the tropopause, is marked by where this
inversion begins, which in terms of atmospheric thermodynamics is the equilibrium level. The
stratosphere is situated between about 6 mi and 30 mi altitude above the surface at moderate
latitudes, while at the poles it starts at about 5 mi altitude.
Within this layer, temperature increases as altitude increases; the top of the stratosphere has a
temperature of about 29.6В°F, just slightly below the freezing point of water. The stratosphere is
layered in temperature because ozone here absorbs high energy UVB and UVC energy waves
from the Sun and is broken down into atomic oxygen and diatomic oxygen. Atomic oxygen is
found prevalent in the upper stratosphere due to the bombardment of UV light and the destruction
of both ozone and diatomic oxygen. The mid stratosphere has less UV light passing through it, O
and O2 are able to combine, and is where the majority of natural ozone is produced. It is when
these two forms of oxygen recombine to form ozone that they release the heat found in the
stratosphere. The lower stratosphere receives very low amounts of UVC, thus atomic oxygen is not
found here and ozone is not formed (with heat as the byproduct. This vertical stratification, with

Today s Americ What Defines A Model Leader
What truly defines a model leader? Is it something that showed exceptional courage in a time
others hid away? Or is it someone who consistently leads time after time, no matter the
circumstances? These are interesting questions that if the idea of leader exists these questions
will always be asked. There is a popular quote from the movie Sandlot said by Babe Ruth Heroes
get remembered, legends never die (Ruth). The prior quote can be switched around to show the
importance of leaders and that is Bosses get remembered, leaders never die. This quote is
evident in the leader that I selected, seeing the impact they made two hundred plus years ago,
that is still seen every day we wake up. In today s American, we are a country divided for many
reasons including: racial, political, taxes, and many more reasons. Flashback two hundred years
ago and we were a divided America because of the same issues that divide us today. Out of this
turmoil came a group of leaders known today as the Founding Fathers. Together these men took on

Braddock and his men were ordered to take Fort Duquesne and along the way were involved in the
Battle of the Monongahela. This was a decisive victory for the French, but Washington would show
his leadership. In most cases of war, when the tides of battle change, a retreat is carried out. This
battle was no different, however, the retreat was carried out in pure chaos. Washington would take
control of this situation and rally the troops into an organized retreat. As Mount Vernon discusses in

Why Do People Like To Show Their Dogs
here are many reasons why people like to show their dogs and it is a rewarding practice for
individuals and kennels alike. You might like to enter your dog for obedience trials because he
enjoys it and you are proud of him; you might like the competition element of shows or it may be
that you just like to be around fellow dogowners, comparing your dogs. There are two main
categories of shows: a) Pedigree dog shows requiring you to demonstrate that your dog matches
the breed standards set by the kennel club in which your dog is registered and b) All dog trial
and events, irrespective of breed, registration or heritage where your dog will be judged solely on
his ability to perform the activity for which he is entered.

Countries such as the USA, Canada, the UK and Australia have kennel clubs which organize
events locally, nationally and internationally. Only pedigrees can be registered in these clubs and
participate in the shows. No crossbreeds are allowed. Kennel clubs outside of the USA place
various breeds in different categories but none of them will recognize crossbreeds or dogs that do
not have proper registration papers.
Make sure that you know the standards set for your breed by the kennel club where your dog is
registered. Read as much as you can about their standards because if you get it wrong, you may be
disqualified from entering or participating in the show.
Visit as many shows and events as you can and observe the adjudicators or judges. Note down
anything the judges say about competitors at the time they have made their selections of winners.
If you know what the judges like you can take special care to train your dog so that he will please
the judges. Naturally judges are bound to make their decision based on the standards that have been
set by a kennel club, but each judge will place their own interpretation on those

Soccer Vs Neo Colonialism
Every year I feel an all too familiar itch. Some people may think I need to see a doctor, but I
know that the only real cure is to sit on my couch in front of my large screened TV with some
kind of greasy potato product and barley fermented beverage. The dose is to be administered
every week between the hours of 1 PM EST on Sunday until 1 am Tuesday morning. That s right,
folks. I ve got a itch, and the only cure is more NFL football. When September rolls around and
the weather becomes seasonably cooler, the leaves on the trees begin to change color, the air
becomes crisper and has a distinguishable smell that can only be experienced and not described.

As a result, Africa s cultural identity has been what sociologist Ulf Hannerz calls creolized (6),
which, as seen in the history of soccer, can be yet another facet for neo colonialism. From these
roots of colonialism and neo colonialism grew the sport of soccer. Initially, in the 1860s it was
introduced by Britain in South Africa (Armstrong Football 8) and other countries, such as France
and Portugal, followed in other regions. Associated colonizing individuals and groups including
missionaries, teachers, soldiers, and other colonial settlers acted as prime catalysts (8). Africans
would watch white Europeans play and then apply what they learned in their own local township
games using bundles of rags as makeshift balls (9). Teams and leagues were formed, as were
rivalries, different styles of play, and different philosophies on the game. In 1923, African football
began to be recognized internationally as a rising power when Egypt was accepted into the
FГ©dГ©ration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and three more national associations
(Sudan, South Africa, and Ethiopia) were later accepted, until 1957 when the ConfГ©dГ©ration
Africaine de Football (CAF) was founded (9). Today, CAF has grown into a 52 member
association, the largest continental governing body in the world (9). African soccer seemed

New Orleans Narrative
Quarter Million? Doubt it. Though this room looks nice, I d say this is a typical loft in New
Orleans. Far less than that I d imagine. But I hope you realize we can t stay here the whole
night. This is the home to a single chick and she s most likely out partying tonight and she ll be

crinkling her nose as the couch pleaded her to stay. If she had the strength to whisk away the
soft piece of heaven with her she would ve in a heartbeat. But can t we just improvise if the
owners do come? She looked ahead and caught the moonlight that poured through the ivory pane
doors, reminding her that the room was not hers. It was never hers. What belonged to her,
however, was a shabby miniature apartment that resided in downtown New Orleans wherever
distant that location could have been at that moment. Still, in her mind, Leo romantically
considered that this loft existed just for her a ticket past socioeconomic borders even if it was just

The Issues And Resource Implications For The Private Sector
According to Quote Addicts.com, The regulatory framework of missiles, much of which is new and
untested, possesses significant challenges and resource implications for the private sector. This
quote explains that the making of missiles and the framework of missiles have evolved and are
being constructed in a more advanced way. Missiles are made up of many different parts, which
help them to do many things such as to fly,to navigate, and to communicate with their controller. For
example, the patriot missilehas a jet enginewith air intake which helps the missile fly through the
air. The patriot is just one missile type. Interestingly, there are many different kinds of missiles
which are designed in different ways for various purposes. Overall, this is what the quote by Quote
Addicts explains.
Nonetheless, the danger related to missile development and use must be recognized. As John F.
Kennedy states, Nuclear weapons are so destructive and ballistic missiles so swift, that any
substantially increased possibility of their sudden change in their development may well be
regarded as a definite threat to peace. This quote explains that if the design of missiles is
improved, there will be more war and military. This is because ninety percent of the time, many
nuclear weapons, especially missiles, end up in the wrong hands. Thus if weapons that can cause a
lot of damage fall into the hands of the wrong people, these people will use these weapons to
destroy others. Overall,

A Short Note On The Cell Phone Industry
Although Microsoft was slow to join the cell phone war, and was unsuccessful in partaking in
the market even with theier $7.2MM purchased of Nokia in 2013, our team believes the cell
phone market is now ready for a Microsoft Surface cell phone. After all, Microsoft holds a solid
reputation in operating and security software shouldn t they be able to produce a desirable phone?
Our team believes it can. The cell phone industry is dynamic and thriving market that offers a place
to innovation. Despite the losses already assumed by Microsoftwhich includes, assumed
infringement liabilities by the purchase of the Nokia cell phone line, and the added expenses in
the amount of $780 million under the Phone Hardware Restructuring Plan (SEC, 10Q dated 09
/2016), our team feels Microsoft is in a good position to release a desirable and successful phone
line. Furthermore, our team also believes that Microsoft invested in the market to leave the table
at this point. As Leo Sun from TMSunLion said: it was reported that Microsoft s phone hardware
revenue plunged 46% annually in constant currency terms due to the downsizing of the business
and market share losses. Meanwhile, Surface device sales rose 61%, thanks to strong demand for

The Human Eye Has No Blind Spot
There are approximately 8.5 million known species in the world. Each one sees differently. A
few species vision is more advanced than others; as humans we are very limited to what we can
see compared to other animals. Birds of prey have the ability to see extreme detail at far distances.
A bee has hundreds of six sided lens and together the lenses form a single image. And an octopus s
eyehas no blind spot. Each of these species eyesight has evolved overtime to adapt to survival needs.
Most individuals take for granted their ability to see. Eyesight is a major connection to the outside
world; around 80 percent of impressions are through sight, meaning that only 20 percent are from
the other four senses. The human eye has evolved over time to turn into what it is today. Through
human s needs for survival, the eye has changed to suit humans. Two of the most common types of
eyes found in nature are the camera type eye and compound eyes; the human eye fits into camera
type eyes because just like a camera lens focuses light onto something, the eye does a similar thing.
The cornea, a structure in the front of the eye, focuses light onto the retina, and behind the cornea,
is a colored membrane called the iris. It has an adjustable circular opening, the pupil, which expands
or contracts to determine the amount of light that enters the eye.
The eye did not always function this way. To get to this point the human eye has evolved. But
scientist debate how the eye has evolved.

Fear Of The Unknown In The Crucible
Realized or not, it is in the innate nature of humans to fear something that they are unfamiliar
with. A surgeon fears his first time in the operating room. An expecting mother is apprehensive
of her first delivery. A new student is trepid about his first day at a new school. The fear of the
unknown has for long defined and constrained the boundaries of societies and the actions of
man, and has been, is, and will continue to shape and affect our decisions. Fear of the unknown
creates, promotes, and maintains paranoia and disunity in a community in times of crisis. The
God fearing and overly religious nature of the populace of Salem Village helped give birth to
the hysteria and chaos of the Salem Witch Hunt in 1692. Fear of the unknown played a crucial
role in sustaining and promoting the hysteria created by Abigail Williams very first accusations.
In Act I, Tituba, the Caribbean slave serving Reverend Samuel Parris is accused by Abigail, who
claims that she [Tituba] makes us drink blood and dream corruptions (Miller 43, 44). Abigail then
continues to elaborate on the supposed misdeeds Tituba influences her to carry out, and accuses
her of tempting her and laughing in her sleep (Miller 44). Reverend John Hale, Thomas Putnam,
and Reverend Samuel Parris fully accept these blatant accusations, owing to their devout belief in
Bible and God, and due to their fear of the unknown which, in this case, is of Satan. The presence

Arnolfini. The chandelier above has a contradiction that makes Margaret Koster think that the
candles symbolize death and life. The candle on the left side where Mr. Arnolfini is still on but the
other candle is gone out. Mrs. Arnolfini stays where the gone out candle is.
According to Januszczak there are two more symbols supporting the fact that Mrs. Arnolfini is
death. These are the shoes called pattens and the fruits on the windowsill. At that time, people
used shoes called pattens for wearing outdoors. There is a pair of pattens on the floor. Which
according to Januszczak symbolizes the loyalty of Mr. Arnolfini to his wife. Mr. Arnolfini rejected
these shoes because they are towards outside and that means, he has no plans to wander further.
Lastly the fruits on the windowsill symbolize the biblical event of paradise and they are not there to
show that the Arnolfini s were wealthy. According to Januszczak, these fruits represent what we
have lost, what we could have had . When Adam took a bite from the forbidden fruit, he committed

Essay about Woolf s Vision in A Room of One s Own
Woolf s Vision in A Room of One s Own
Many years have lapsed sinee Virginia Woolf spoke at Newnham and Girton colleges on the
subject of women and fiction. Her remarkable words are preserved for future generations of
women in A Room of One s Own. This essay is the first manifesto of the modern feminist
movement (Samuelson), and has been called a notable preamble to a kind of feminine
Declaration of Independence (Muller 34). Woolf writes that her modest goal for this ground

She preserves this intimacy in the written essay as well. Woolf s nephew and biographer,
Quentin Bell, writes that in A Room of One s Own one hears Virginia speaking . . . . she gets
very close to her conversational style (144). Rather than submit her audience to the usual dictation
of the expert to the ignorant (Marcus, Virginia 145), Woolf involves her audience in her quest for
answers. She advises them that she plans to make use of all the liberties and licenses of a novelist,
that her fiction is likely to contain more truth than fact, and that they must seek out this truth and .
. . decide whether any part of it is worth keeping (4 5). She does not disclose the truth as she sees it
; rather, she requires the audience to participate in the drama of asking questions and searching for
Woolf s creative departure from established lecture style delightfully foreshadows her intent to
generate entirely new feminine traditions and searching for answers (Marcus, Virginia 145).

The Tale Of Dracula, Or The Son Of The Dragon
Countless times the fictional story of the infamous Count Dracula has been told in treatises,
playwrights, novels, and also films. Dracula as a character has such an arduous lifestyle that it is
difficult to decipher between truth and myth. Although the narrative of Count Dracula is viewed as
only fiction, there is accuracy behind the legends. Vlad III s legacy sparked the lore of Count
Draculabecause of the scarring childhood he endured, the torturous agony he caused upon others,
and a gruesome war.
Vlad III was born in November 14, 1431 in Sighisoara, Transylvania to Vlad Dracul and Princess
Cneajna of Moldavia. He had an older brother, Mircea, and a younger brother, Radu. In 1431, Vlad
Dracul was inducted into the Order of the Dragon, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, he directed his loathing to his father and older brother, Mircea, for their unfaithfulness
to the Order of the Dragon. Similarly, he was angry at Radu for leaving Christianity and converting
to the Islamic faith. The years Vlad III spent in captivity taught him many ways of torture and in
one way shaped him into the man he eventually came to be, Vlad the Impaler.
While Vlad Dracul was still on the Wallachian throne, John Hunyadithe Hungarian King,
demanded that Vlad Dracul shall promise to join the crusade against the Turks, but wanting to stay
neutral he sent Mircea instead. The Christian army was utterly destroyed in the Battle of Varna,
John Hunyadi managed to escape the battle under inglorious conditions. From this moment forward
John Hunyadi was bitterly hostile to Vlad Dracul and Mircea ( Vlad 4). In result to John Hunyadi s
animosity, in 1447, he raided Wallachiaand assassinated Vlad Dracul and Mircea with help of
boyars and merchants. Fearing the Hungarians would gain too much influence in Wallachia after
the death of Vlad Dracul, the Ottoman Turks forged ahead to Wallachia and put Vlad III on the
throne as a puppet so the Sultan could pull the strings. Yet within only reigning two months, John
Hunyadi forced him into exile in Moldavia. Vlad III s successor to the throne...unexpectedly

Situational Leadership Theory, Transformational, And...
Introduction
There are a few leadership theories, but for this research I will only on four of these. The theories
that will be discussed are Situational leadership theory, Contingency theory, Transformational, and
Transactional theory. The theory Transformational is pondered by several to be the theory
improvement for transactional leadership theory, and it appears to have a cumulative number of
research studies that are supporting the benefits of this theory. So, I will also compare and discuss
the contrast of the four different theories, and like a few examples. In an ever changing
organization, there are many who suggest that maybe transactional and transformational theories

result in failure for the leader. This theories in general state in order to be effectiveness will depend
upon the nature of the task, situation, leader s personality, make up of the group being led, and
factors.
Transformational theory
To use Transformational leadership theory we need to understand what it is. Transformational
leadership theory is the process that transforms and changes people. In other words, this theory
gives the leadership the ability to get his followers improve, and feel empowered to change, and to
be led. The theory involves evaluating the associates motives, filling their needs, and appreciating
them. So, a leader using the transformational theory could make their company more triumphant
just by appreciating there associates.
Transformational leadership theory may be found at all levels of the organization: teams,
departments, divisions, and organization as a whole ( Transformational Leadership Theory , n.d.,
para. 2). These leaders are daring, visionary, risk takers, thoughtful thinkers, inspiring, and have a
charismatic appeal. But magnetism alone is inadequate for altering the way an organization
functions. Therefore, they cannot bring major changes, unless they have the four I s factors, which

Relationships In One Tree Hill
In the show One Tree Hill there are several relationships that you can look at critically. There are
relationships between half brothers, fathers and sons, mothers and sons, friends, and several more.
When you critically look into another person s relationship you have to actually look behind what
they are saying so you can understand how they actually feel about one another, someone could
say and do something that would cause people to think he or she does not like a certain person but
in reality at the end of the day they truthfully do love the person they pretend to hate. Actions speak
louder than words most of the time.

Self Perceived Prototypicality In Self-Verification Of...
The Role of Self Perceived Prototypicality in Self Verification of Group Members In many of
previous theories and research, the concept of prototypicality has been highly relevant in
examining the nature of group membership and inter and intra group behaviours (Kleef et al.,
2007; Steinel et al., 2010; Ellemers Jetten, 2013). Based on self categorisation theory,
prototypicality is defined as the position within the group according to the degree to which one
represents the group s most typical characteristics (Oakes, 1996; GГіmez, Jetten Swann, 2014). An
individual is considered to be a core member when they possess most of the defining features of the
group, and a peripheral group member when they display only some of the features. Numerous

Australia s Involvement For The Australian War
During the Second World War over a seven month period between July 1942 and January 1943,
the events of the Kokoda Trail Campaign and the Battle of the Beachheads took place on what was
once the Australian territories of Papua and New Guinea. Good morning, I am Lee Varnes, and I am
representing the Australian War Memorial to inform you of the significance of Australia
s
involvement in the Papua Campaign. I will be discussing the reasons behind Japan s invasion of
Papua, the course of the campaign, the outcome of the campaign and the significance it had on the
Australian people and the soldiers involved.
Port Moresby was an extremely important tactical position for both allied forces and the Japanese;
as it would allow Japan to fulfil Operation FS and allow allied forces to attack north over the
Kokoda trail towards the Japanese base at Rabaul (Austrialian Goverment: Department of Veterans
Affairs, 2015). Through the completion of Operation FS, the Japanese would be able to throttle
Australia into submission by cutting off communication and supply lines with the US , they
planned to do so through the gradual extension of Japanese control over the islands in the South
East Pacific around continental Australia (Pacific War Historical Society, n.d.). Japanese Prime
Minister, Tojo Hideki, was opposed to the direct amphibious invasion of Australia, though with Port
Moresby under Japanese control it would allow them to terrorise Australia s eastern coast as

Illinois Beach State Park Case Study
When going to the sand dunes of the Illinois Beach State Park, we wanted to test the effects of
different environment on succession, ecosystem development. The problem was to find out if there
is a succession (ecosystem development) of plant communities taking place. If the sand dune s
closer to the lake are newer than those further inland, then, I believe succession will take place
because the newest dunes do not have rich enough soilto support more complex plants like trees and
shrubs growing in the areas that have already gone through later stage succession. The data
supported our hypothesis.
The area with the most vegetation was the C index. There were certain plants in abundance in
certain indexes, however, most plants remained in every index. The soil also changed throughout
each index. It went from sandy, in an area closer to the water and directly in the sun, to moist in the
forest area, not in direct sunlight. This shows an ecosystem going from a simple to a complex
community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

leaf plant was found only during the early B stage, therefore, it must only survive in dry, sandy

Christian Character and Virtue After You Believe was written by the Bishop of Durham, Nicholas
Thomas Wright, or N.T. Wright. He was born on December 1, 1948 in Northumberland, United
Kingdom and became a very wellknown British New Testament scholar. (Wikipedia)
N.T. Wright s book, After You Believe, is mainly devoted to discussing how Christians need to act
after they have received and believed in Jesus Christ. It is like discussing Part 2 of Christianity, with
Part 1 simply being belief, and Part 2 being what is to follow. This book heavily revolves around
Christian character, virtue, and how it is formed. N.T. Wright describes this as ...the transforming,
shaping, and marking of a life and its habits (page 7) As Christians, many may ask what the end
goal is. What is the purpose of living a life with virtue or good character? N.T. Wright presents
three different options of what this might look like, and why it is important. The first option
puts heaven as the final goal. This goal can only be achieved by faith in Jesus Christ because of
his death and resurrection. We work towards this goal in what we do in our everyday lives. The
second Christian model that Wright talks about is the goal of working towards God s kingdom
through our own everyday activities. This way of living was demonstrated to us by Jesus up until
his death on the cross. As Christians we need to live a life anticipating God s coming kingdom on
earth by

A Engineer s Responsibility Is Still Vague Of The Top...
Time to wake up
Engineering has been one of the top demand professions of all time. Nevertheless, the awareness of
an engineer s responsibility is still vague in the society. In this concurrent era of technological
revolutions, it has become highly relevant to give a definition to this. The question, whether
engineer should remain within the limitations/ guidelines of the organizations they work for or not
finds high relevancy and importance. There are ongoing strong debates on this matter, with a large
group arguing engineering is a profession, where one has to make his skills ready to be available for
whosoever pays him, as far as that falls within law (Deborah G, 1989). I personally support the

The default assumption in the discussion of morality is that, it is wrong to harm others (Kenneth,
Andrew, Samuel C, 1983). As we say each and every person has the same right to live, it readily
generates a responsibility to not to disturb other s lives. In depth, it automatically conveys the
message, whose action influences the most should be most responsible in their works. This
demands engineers to hold high standards of responsibility and commitment towards the society.
The basic reason for my stance in this thesis is the importance and unique nature of engineering
profession. There are two basic features which differentiates engineering profession. Engineers
come across things and products mostly, rather than direct dealings with individual person.
Furthermore, engineers work as a part of team or collective unlike most of the other profession
(John, 1982). Even though, engineers act in groups, one should remember the fact that one is
being governed doesn t degrade his moral responsibilities. Hence an individual working in a
collective can also be said to possess quantifiable amount of moral responsibility towards the
society, extend of which depends on the position and role he plays in the collective (Albert
Deborah G, 1983). The relevance of this point can be established by exploring a case study of the
deep water gulf oil disaster. Where, the reputed British

The Guilt Of Murder In Edgar Allen Poe s Tell-Tale Heart
When people commit murder, they try to justify their actions with logical reasons for doing so.
However, if the reasons are not valid, they try to convince themselves that they are. The short story
Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe describes the actions of an unknown narrator who cunningly
murders an elderly man at midnight because of his vulture eye. The narrator recounts the
confidence in his finesse of the concealment of the body until he hears the first unperceived
thumping of the dead man s heart, driving him to confess to the police. His frantic attempts to

One might object here that the narrator lacked the mental capacity to distinguish right from
wrong. The claim of mental insanity could be supported by the narrator s abnormal hearing of
the dead old man s heart thumping. ...but the noise arose over all and continually increased. It
grew louder louder louder! (Poe). It is correct that normal people do not hear dead people s hearts
beating, however, what he likely heard was the sound of his own heart ringing loudly in his ears
due to his guilty conscience.
The various instances where the narrator described how afraid he felt when staring at the man s
vulture eye specifies that he indeed did have a motive to kill the old man. In the beginning, he
stated that he cared for the old man, but his eye that resembled a vulture frightened him. ...his
blood ran cold (Poe). His obvious discomfort and contempt when looking at the eye irked him so
much that he killed the elderly man to purge the mere thought of the evil eye from his mind. To
add on, every night for eight nights, he would sneak into the old man s room to wait for the
quintessential time to commit the final deed of killing him. However, the narrator had to wait
several days to strike because as the old man was sleeping, his eye was not open and his eye was
the true object that vexed him. ...but I found the eye always closed...it was impossible to do the

Port Huron Statement Thesis Statement
In the political manifesto, The Port Huron Statement, it was written by college students, who

Summary Of The Preface Of Frankenstein
The preface to Frankenstein is written as letters sent home from a captain aboard a ship. The
first mention of loneliness is made in the book by captain Walton as he recalls to a family
member what it feels like to be exploring through a vacant landscape. He is about to set sail when
writing this letter and is presumably dreading being alone with nothing but his crew to keep him
company. Walton fancies himself as a bit of a romantic and a scholar, so the likes of his men
aren t satisfying enough for him. Mary Shelley was likely familiar with this feeling because of
how intelligent she truly was. She roamed Europe in search of a companion to satisfy her mind s
cravings and found a few beginning with her husband Percy and then a group that she lived with
in Switzerland for a time: Lord Byron, John William Polidori, and Claire Clairmontwith. The
majority of the book takes place in the past, but in the preface the author sets the scene in present
day, where a captain sailing through an icy northern region stumbles upon a hot pursuit of two men
on dog sleds.
The pursuer is noticeably weak and is brought onto the boat to warm up and be nursed back to
health while the other man continues to ride across the frozen wasteland. He is a mysterious and
nearly speechless man that has clearly been beaten down by the life that he has lived. Later, it is
discovered that this man is Dr. Frankenstein, and when he is able to speak he begins to become

During the enslavement of Fredrick Douglas, he began to educate himself in the field of
language and writing. Quickly this became a burden as well as a blessing, as Fredrick had to
duck and hide at every turn to ensure that no one who could be a threat to his being found out
that he possessed the ability to read. As Fredrick slowly grows with each piece of new material
he can acquire, it becomes more evident that Fredrick has also consecutively began to become
depressed. Though gifted with the ability to read and even write, later on his life, he now
possessed enough knowledge to understand the severity of his situation. He was a man trapped
with no way to escape. This began to wear on Fredrick and pushed him into the dark depths of...

His ability to read and write gave him opportunity, a chance for hope. As every opportunity
presented itself to Douglas, he would take it from bribing the little boys on the street with pieces
of bread in exchange for bits of knowledge to carving letters into driftwood and make it into a
beneficial situation. Douglas greatest benefit from learning to read and write, however, was
that he could now compose complete thoughts to paper and convey them to other people. This
has allowed others to benefit from his work even after his passing. Fredrick Douglas educated
himself because he thought it held value, something that could not be taken away from him.
There are two main reasons Fredrick educated himself. Fredrick Douglas educated himself on the
mannerisms to read and write because he wished to transcribe the struggles and feelings that he
had during his enslavement and the only appropriate way to do that to ensure that everyone
would hear his voice was to jot those words down to paper and see to it that they are published.
The ability to read and write presented itself as an opportunity to freedom. As he developed and
began thinking on a higher level it allowed for him to be more aware of his environment and
opportunities. This became Fredrick s golden ticket . Hand over fist, every day he would get
better with his ability to compose pieces and read letters. This means that every day he became
closer and closer to the actuality of

What Made Britain so Different from the Rest of Europe...
What made Britain so different from the rest of Europe before 1850?
By 1850, Britain had changed in a number of social and economic ways, for a variety of reasons,
primarily the industrial revolution as the historians O Brien and Quinault argue that Britain
represented a potent example for Western Europeand the United States of what could be achieved
highlighting British superiority and influence. The consequences of this momentous event can still
be seen in Britain and around the world today due to the technological and scientific discoveries and
innovations of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The development of British industry
consequently led to significant differences between Britain and other European countries such as ...

Child labour during this period was a serious problem children as young as 4 were expected to work
in factories in dangerous conditions with low pay. Working conditions were not only problematic
for children, but also for adults, illustrated by Engels, who argues that the industrial epoch had
created filth, ruin and uninhabitableness, the defiance of all considerations of cleanliness,
ventilation, and health highlighting the unsanitary and unsafe surroundings. However, the
government attempted to solve this problem with the Factory Acts of 1833. Housing also became a
problem as many poor people lived in tiny houses, with extremely bad sanitation, which in turn led
to tuberculosis, cholera, typhoid and lung disease. However, while this is true, in the context of the
time, the workers and middle class did benefit greatly from the Industrial Revolution in some way,
as wages increased and widespread poverty and constant threat of mass starvation...lessened, [and]
overall health and material conditions of the populace clearly improved . Therefore it is clear that
Britain was different in social terms as a result of the Industrial Revolution to Europe due to
urbanisation, more jobs, a population increase and better health care.
Additionally, Britain can be seen to be different from Europe in 1850 as a result of the economic
consequences of the Industrial Revolution, which brought about a modern economy . The economy
had already been transformed by the agricultural

Simvastatin
Simvastatin
Introduction
Simvastatin is used to lower the cholesterol level in the blood such as the low density lipoprotein
(LDL) and triglycerides and to raise the high density lipoprotein (HDL), It decreases the risk of
heart diseases and helps to prevent the heart attacks and strokes by reducing the amount of
cholesterol that is made by the liver (Raleys.com, 2015). Chemical structure and functional groups
Simvastatin is one of the statins derivatives that is synthesised from a fermentation product of
Aspergillus terreus. The simvastatin is an inactive lactone which is hydrolysed to the ОІ
hydroxyacid form when it is taken orally. ОІ hydroxyacid form is an inhibitor of 3 hydroxy 3
methylglutaryl coenzyme A(HMG CoA) reductase. This enzyme ... Show more content on

The mode of action
Statins are competitive inhibitors HMG CoA reductase, it has been considered as a first line for the
treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Their mode of action is by mimicking the substrate molecule
HMG CoA and competes for binding to the HMGCR enzyme. It works by slowing the production
rate of mevalonate which responsible for the production of cholesterol molecule.
Most of the cholesterol synthesis in the body is done by internal mechanism through the liver cells
particularly at night during fasting; it is taken at night to inhibit the cholesterol production. It
maximizes its inhibitory effect and the data shows a significant fall in the LDL and a fall in the
total cholesterol level in the blood.
Simvastatin can have different pharmacological effects from other statins groups due to different
ring structures and chemical side groups such as different affinity toward the receptors, different
rates of connection to liver cells from non liver cells, different bioavailability and biochemical
metabolism and execration. All these factors affect its half life which is short (Anon, 2015).
Statins are selective towards the hepatic cells because of their lipophilic properties. It passes
through the membrane towards the cell

Comparison Between Good And Evil In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Good Vs. Evil in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde The battle line between good and evil runs through the
heart of every man. (Solzhenitsyn) In the story Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis
Stevenson, Dr.Jekyll has this battle of good and evil within himself. He has the idea to separate
his evil half known as Mr. Hyde with a potion. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde focuses on duality of man
and human nature. Stevenson develops the theme of good and evilthroughout the story using the
setting, characters, and the city of London. In the beginning of the story Mr. Utterson, a lawyer,
and Mr. Enfield, a doctor, are taking their normal sunday stroll, as they are walking they pass by
a house that catches their attention. This house seems out of place, to be in the neighborhood
they re in because they are in a richer neighborhood and the door on the house looks old and
rugged. Which reminds Mr.Enfield of a story of a girl whom he witnessed getting trampled one
night, and how he made the evil man who trampled her pay money to cover what he had done.
The trampling of the girl is represented as an evil thing. Strangely, the check contained the name
of a very respectable man which aroused Enfield s suspicions about the check. Enfield refuses to
reveal the name on the check. However we find out that the evil man is actually Hyde and he
wrote a check signed by Jekyll. No one has heard of Mr. Hyde so Mr. Utterson makes it his
mission to find out more about Mr. Hyde. Utterson is a lawyer and, in fact he is Dr. Jekyll s
lawyer he opens a safe that had Jekyll s will in it. He looks over it for a long time. The terms in
the will say all of the doctor s possessions are to pass into the hands of his friend Edward Hyde if
Dr. Jekyll disappears or has an unexplained absence. Utterson goes to visit Dr. Lanyon. He thinks
that Lanyon can explain Dr. Jekyll s relationship to Hyde. Lanyon greets his friend into his home,
and the two men talk for a while till Utterson says to Lanyon that they are probably two of the
oldest friends that Henry Jekyll has. Lanyon replies that he hasn t seen much of Jekyll for years,
ever since Jekyll ...became too fanciful... and ...wrong in mind... (Stevenson,11).Which infers
something of the evil act.

Biography of Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin can easily be recognized as a pure genius. In his lifetime, he single handedly
changed the way we see the world. His theories led to the study of the modern evolutionary theory
of the world. Charles was a collector of plants, animals, and other specimens. From an early age,
Charles had an immense love for nature, which started his career as a scientist. His trip to the
GalapagosIslands forever changed his life and reputation. His two famous works were the Origin of
Speciesand the Descent of Man.
Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, in 1809. He was the son of Doctor Robert
Darwin. His father was a wealthy aristocrat, and also a good investor. During Darwin s first years in

Darwin also theorized that man is firmly rooted in the animal kingdom and that all animals are
cousins of each other.
Darwin found the most important findings at the Galapagos Islands. These islands were filled with
exotic life. These creatures were prehistoric like, and not afraid of humans. This island was
abundant with similar animals with slight variations. He found finches with small beaks used for
insects and berries, and finches with much tougher beaks used for nuts. He determined that these
creatures mutate in order to survive in their environment. This theory became known as survival of
the fittest , or Natural Selection. Natural Selection is natural variations among a specie to insure
the species reproductive success. During his voyage around the world, Darwin collected 1,500
animals, and 4,000 samples of skin and bones of his specimens.
After his return, Darwin married his first cousin, Emma Wedgwood in 1839. A major factor in
their marriage was that he could not believe in Christianity. Darwin was troubled with chills and
vomiting. For the next 40 years of his life, Darwin s productivity was cutback. He was unable to
work for more than 3 hours at a time. Out of his 10 children, only 7 survived to adulthood. He
was a loving father to all of his children, and could not bear to see them suffering. Annie died at
age 9, which spurred his belief of the end of a just world.

How Did Jean Jacques Rousseau Influence The British...
Philosopher and novelist Jean Jacques Rousseau has had a significant influence on his belief about
childhood and education from the later eighteenth century until the present. Jean Jacques Rousseau
also influenced the British revolution and during that time inspired William Woodsworth and
William Blake. He was known for going against the common belief of the innocence of children
and their nature and how they should not be subjected to the hardships brought on to them by
events beyond their control. William Woodsworth who was a English Romantic poet had a similar

Use Of Humor In Catcher In The Rye
When humor is used to convey a message or theme, the emotional response exhibited by the
receivers of the message is immensely positive. Within the Catcher in the Rye, humor is used to
connect to the reader with its more pessimistic and negative concepts, such as depression and
suicidal thoughts. The use of comedyas the tone makes the book cheerfully appealing and relatable,
demonstrating how it contributes to the overall meaning and effect. Humorwithin the book allows
for the negative concepts to be present, but at the same time makes the book cheerfully appealing.

History Of Juvenile Crimes
We believe that the world s most notorious and ruthless killers are locked away in a jail cell,
away from society and possibly never having the chance to see sunlight again. Yet, what we do
not know is that it is very possible that we could be sitting in a room with a future killer. When
we hear the words serial killer or murderer, we most often see pictures of the famous killers or the
ones actors portray on tv, but one of the biggest things we do not see are pictures of children. The
biggest twist of all though is according to the Justice Department, it estimates about 10 percent of
all homicides are committed by juveniles under the age of 18. Many juveniles are being tried as
adults and possibly being locked up because of the crimes that they do, depending on how bad the
crimeis and the juvenile s criminal history. Most children do not really know what they did or
why they did but that does not excuse the fact that they took another person s life, regardless of
what was actually going on during the time. Kids who do adult crimes should be put away from
society for protection against themselves and others. If a person did something really bad and they
regret it, you can instantly see it on their faces. Something sparks in their eye that just shows
remorse which is good because it shows not only them feeling bad about what they did, but also
giving teaching them a lesson to not do that bad thing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most adults will imagine those kids being their own which gives the children some sort of
leeway. Most juvenile courts do not have a jury, therefore making it hard for the juveniles who
committed a crime not be given a proper trial, which in their case is good for them. But, if
juveniles were to be tried as adults, not only could it bring justice, but it could also show other
people who don t believe they should have a trial by jury and keep it the

The Roles Of Women In Ancient Greece, Rome, And Egypt
s history runs its course, there are certain topics that are always addressed such as religion,
politics, and societal structure. Also brought up is the role of women. During all periods of the
world, women are given their own category due to being treated differently than the men.
Comparing the women of ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt reveals the vast differences of people
s views of women and the disappointing similarities of being unjustly judged based on their gender.
Each of these cultures puts their women into positions that are degrade the skills of females, some
more than others, and create the societal barriers for women that last for many years after ancient
times. A telling sign of how each culture views their women is in the stories of their creation. The
Romans, Egyptians, and Greeks all had their own theories as to how humans were put on Earth. The
Egyptians had three different creation myths, all with different characteristics. The myth including
Nun and Ptah do not include women, but they also do not identify that it was men created first.
These describe the creation of society, not a society of men that was created and then women added
along the way. The other creation myth from Egypt includes the frog headed gods and snake
headed goddesses such as Kek, Kauket; Heh, Hauhet. Women were integrated into the formation of
the culture which exhibits the view of women in Egypt. They were not an afterthought. Contrasting
this ideal is the creation

A Historical Perspective On Anxiety Management Training Essay
In the article by Richard M. Suinn, of Colorado State University, titled Clinical Practice, University
Research, and Students: A Historical Perspective on Anxiety Management Training from The
American Psychologist, Suinn discusses the history and application of Anxiety Management
Training, AMT.
He first explains his development of AMT through is many years of educating at various
universities. Suinn first talks how he first examined how anxiety influenced the relationship
between self acceptance and acceptance of others and the association between anxiety and
identification at Whitman College. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) After many years of researchhe along with
one of his student, Hunter Hill, they found that anxiety disrupts the trend for self perceptions to
color evaluations of others and is significantly associated with low self esteem. (Suinn, 1995, p.
287) While at Whitman he also conducted research with another student, Tom Smith, where they
hypothesized that is a correlation between high identification and low anxiety. However, this
hypothesis was proven to be wrong and they found no relationship between the two. Suinn, then
talks about his time at the University of Hawaii. Here, along with some of his students,
investigated if group desensitization or individual desensitization was more effective. It was found
that they were both equally affected, even more so they discovered that a briefer approach was just
as successful as a longer approach when reducing

Essay about Gaius Julius Caesar
Gaius Julius Caesar
Gaius Julius Caesar has been described as one of the most influential political and military
leaders in history. He began the Roman transition from a republic to an empire. Caesar united
Rome under his ruthless power; he controlled religion, senate, and the military. He almost made
himself emperor, and this was the fact that inspired his assassination. Caesar was born in Rome
on July 12 or 13, 100 BC. He started his education early, as a young man he was placed under the
tutorship of M. Antonius Gnipho, a freeborn native of Gaul. Antonius was a well educated man,
and well read in Greek and Latin. Caesar was a product of what could be called the Roman

Antistius Vetus, praetor of Spain. Shortly before he took his position he lost his aunt and his
wife. When he returned to Rome and married Pompeia, this strange marriage has been considered
a politically tactical move in order to gain an eventual strategic advantage. In 67 BC Pompey the
Great had supreme command in the east. Licinius Crassus a rich partician, was bitterly jealous of
Pompey s successes. These two men rivaled for the next dictatorship, so in order to keep up with
Pompey, Crassus needs the popular support of the people. Who better to help Crassus then the
outspoken and popular Julius Caesar, this alliance was considered a marriage de convenance.
Caesar was a governor in Spain for a year, he returned in 60 BC. It was at this point that Julius
formed a three way alliance with Crassus and Pompey. This was known as the First Triumvirate.
To cement their relationship further, Caesar gave his daughter Julia to Pompey in marriage.
Now properly backed Caesar was elected to consul in 59 BC, despite Optimate hostility, the year

  • 2. Research Paper On Communicative Language Teaching Communicative Language Teaching Communicative language teaching is an approach to develop communicative competence by establishing real life situations. I want to explain the communicative competence. It is a terminology introduced by Dell Hymes, which refers to the ability to use and interpret the language appropriately and effectively according to where, whom, when and why you are talking to. The writers explain the communicative language teaching differently in their articles from the others. The articles in the ELT Journal offer interesting debates on CLT. On one side, Bax (2003) proposes that CLT should be abandoned since the methodology fails to take into account the context of language teaching. On the other side, Liao (2004) suggests ... This is supported by considerable evidence both the quantity and quality of target language input are crucial factors in foreign second language learning.( Richards, Jack. 2002) Communicative language teaching can be said to have several benefits and strong aspects for language teaching and learning. The purpose of the meridian points was for acupuncture and moxibustion. If one were to prick the meridian points, instead of getting rid of the pain, the disease would worsen it. They could also be used as a deadly weapon, if you hit the right meridian at the precise point. Qi is found in the lower abdomen and it passes through the whole body. Qi is used in medicinal by letting energy flow through the body and it also fight against illnesses. Xingyquan is used in combat and the vital points are also used to an advantage to weaken and or do damage to an opponent. According to the Bubishi article, Chen Yuabin used the striking of the vital points to fight off against the attackers. From the past few years, it s used a self defense. The Xingyquan is well known for using the spear and the fists come from using the spear. The spear is a long shaft that has a very pointy tip. Now this is a similar way on how Zhan Sanfeng used to train. He would use needles on the Bronze Man and liquid would come out if the correct vital point was hit. • 4. Recreational Vehicle Industry Analysis The Recreational Vehicle Industry MGT 698 5 October 2011 For most people, the recreational vehicle (RV) industry is a large subject to wrap their heads around due to the rather vast array of products associated with the term recreational vehicle . When conducting web searches for information regarding the recreational vehicle industry I found it a little bit overwhelming in that it contained everything from a Ski Doo Grand Touring luxury snow machine to a 27 Peterbilt 379X with a custom 53 Elite tri axle car hauler/conversion apartment sleeper. To narrow, and better define, this industry the definition of recreational vehicle will be a motorized or towable vehicle that incorporates living spaces and home like amenities. Due ... The major manufacturers all produce numerous models of both motorhomes and travel trailers and utilize easily reconfigurable production assembly lines with relatively small production runs per model. Dealer orders are the catalyst to reconfigure assembly lines and produce individual models. In 2008 and 2009 orders and sales were low, but like a lot of other industries 2010 saw a very robust growth spurt totaling 46.2% over the previous two years. Total shipments were reported at 243,000 units which encompassed a retail value increase of 69.5%, more than $8.7 billion. Even further, Richard Curtain has predicted through analysis conducted by his economic research team at the University of Michigan that RV shipments will increase 7.4% in 2011 over the previous year. This is due to the customer base that this market is able to bring to the table. Not long ago the customer base was strictly wealthier, retired couples over the age of 55 years old but the current customer profile has ownership of RV s spread across all tiers of age with the highest percentile being in the range of 35 54 year old couples with an average of three vehicles and an average household income of $70,000. This is in contrast to the troposphere near the Earth s surface, which is cooler higher up and warmer farther down. The border of the troposphere and stratosphere, the tropopause, is marked by where this inversion begins, which in terms of atmospheric thermodynamics is the equilibrium level. The stratosphere is situated between about 6 mi and 30 mi altitude above the surface at moderate latitudes, while at the poles it starts at about 5 mi altitude. Within this layer, temperature increases as altitude increases; the top of the stratosphere has a temperature of about 29.6В°F, just slightly below the freezing point of water. The stratosphere is layered in temperature because ozone here absorbs high energy UVB and UVC energy waves from the Sun and is broken down into atomic oxygen and diatomic oxygen. Atomic oxygen is found prevalent in the upper stratosphere due to the bombardment of UV light and the destruction of both ozone and diatomic oxygen. The mid stratosphere has less UV light passing through it, O and O2 are able to combine, and is where the majority of natural ozone is produced. It is when these two forms of oxygen recombine to form ozone that they release the heat found in the stratosphere. The lower stratosphere receives very low amounts of UVC, thus atomic oxygen is not found here and ozone is not formed (with heat as the byproduct. This vertical stratification, with ... Or is it someone who consistently leads time after time, no matter the circumstances? These are interesting questions that if the idea of leader exists these questions will always be asked. There is a popular quote from the movie Sandlot said by Babe Ruth Heroes get remembered, legends never die (Ruth). As a result, Africa s cultural identity has been what sociologist Ulf Hannerz calls creolized (6), which, as seen in the history of soccer, can be yet another facet for neo colonialism. From these roots of colonialism and neo colonialism grew the sport of soccer. Initially, in the 1860s it was introduced by Britain in South Africa (Armstrong Football 8) and other countries, such as France and Portugal, followed in other regions. Associated colonizing individuals and groups including missionaries, teachers, soldiers, and other colonial settlers acted as prime catalysts (8). Africans would watch white Europeans play and then apply what they learned in their own local township games using bundles of rags as makeshift balls (9). Teams and leagues were formed, as were rivalries, different styles of play, and different philosophies on the game. In 1923, African football began to be recognized internationally as a rising power when Egypt was accepted into the FГ©dГ©ration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and three more national associations (Sudan, South Africa, and Ethiopia) were later accepted, until 1957 when the ConfГ©dГ©ration Africaine de Football (CAF) was founded (9). The Issues And Resource Implications For The Private Sector According to Quote Addicts.com, The regulatory framework of missiles, much of which is new and untested, possesses significant challenges and resource implications for the private sector. This quote explains that the making of missiles and the framework of missiles have evolved and are being constructed in a more advanced way. Missiles are made up of many different parts, which help them to do many things such as to fly,to navigate, and to communicate with their controller. For example, the patriot missilehas a jet enginewith air intake which helps the missile fly through the air. The patriot is just one missile type. Interestingly, there are many different kinds of missiles which are designed in different ways for various purposes. Overall, this is what the quote by Quote Addicts explains. Nonetheless, the danger related to missile development and use must be recognized. As John F. Kennedy states, Nuclear weapons are so destructive and ballistic missiles so swift, that any substantially increased possibility of their sudden change in their development may well be regarded as a definite threat to peace. This quote explains that if the design of missiles is improved, there will be more war and military. This is because ninety percent of the time, many nuclear weapons, especially missiles, end up in the wrong hands. Thus if weapons that can cause a lot of damage fall into the hands of the wrong people, these people will use these weapons to destroy others. Overall, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Short Note On The Cell Phone Industry Although Microsoft was slow to join the cell phone war, and was unsuccessful in partaking in the market even with theier $7.2MM purchased of Nokia in 2013, our team believes the cell phone market is now ready for a Microsoft Surface cell phone. After all, Microsoft holds a solid reputation in operating and security software shouldn t they be able to produce a desirable phone? Our team believes it can. • 16. The Human Eye Has No Blind Spot There are approximately 8.5 million known species in the world. Each one sees differently. A few species vision is more advanced than others; as humans we are very limited to what we can see compared to other animals. Birds of prey have the ability to see extreme detail at far distances. A bee has hundreds of six sided lens and together the lenses form a single image. And an octopus s eyehas no blind spot. Each of these species eyesight has evolved overtime to adapt to survival needs. Most individuals take for granted their ability to see. Eyesight is a major connection to the outside world; around 80 percent of impressions are through sight, meaning that only 20 percent are from the other four senses. The human eye has evolved over time to turn into what it is today. Through human s needs for survival, the eye has changed to suit humans. Two of the most common types of eyes found in nature are the camera type eye and compound eyes; the human eye fits into camera type eyes because just like a camera lens focuses light onto something, the eye does a similar thing. The cornea, a structure in the front of the eye, focuses light onto the retina, and behind the cornea, is a colored membrane called the iris. It has an adjustable circular opening, the pupil, which expands or contracts to determine the amount of light that enters the eye. The eye did not always function this way. To get to this point the human eye has evolved. But scientist debate how the eye has evolved. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Fear Of The Unknown In The Crucible Realized or not, it is in the innate nature of humans to fear something that they are unfamiliar with. A surgeon fears his first time in the operating room. An expecting mother is apprehensive of her first delivery. A new student is trepid about his first day at a new school. The fear of the unknown has for long defined and constrained the boundaries of societies and the actions of man, and has been, is, and will continue to shape and affect our decisions. Fear of the unknown creates, promotes, and maintains paranoia and disunity in a community in times of crisis. The God fearing and overly religious nature of the populace of Salem Village helped give birth to the hysteria and chaos of the Salem Witch Hunt in 1692. Fear of the unknown played a crucial role in sustaining and promoting the hysteria created by Abigail Williams very first accusations. In Act I, Tituba, the Caribbean slave serving Reverend Samuel Parris is accused by Abigail, who claims that she [Tituba] makes us drink blood and dream corruptions (Miller 43, 44). Abigail then continues to elaborate on the supposed misdeeds Tituba influences her to carry out, and accuses her of tempting her and laughing in her sleep (Miller 44). Reverend John Hale, Thomas Putnam, and Reverend Samuel Parris fully accept these blatant accusations, owing to their devout belief in Bible and God, and due to their fear of the unknown which, in this case, is of Satan. At that time, people used shoes called pattens for wearing outdoors. There is a pair of pattens on the floor. Which according to Januszczak symbolizes the loyalty of Mr. Arnolfini to his wife. Mr. Arnolfini rejected these shoes because they are towards outside and that means, he has no plans to wander further. Woolf s nephew and biographer, Quentin Bell, writes that in A Room of One s Own one hears Virginia speaking . . . . she gets very close to her conversational style (144). Rather than submit her audience to the usual dictation of the expert to the ignorant (Marcus, Virginia 145), Woolf involves her audience in her quest for answers. She advises them that she plans to make use of all the liberties and licenses of a novelist, that her fiction is likely to contain more truth than fact, and that they must seek out this truth and . . . decide whether any part of it is worth keeping (4 5). She does not disclose the truth as she sees it ; rather, she requires the audience to participate in the drama of asking questions and searching for Woolf s creative departure from established lecture style delightfully foreshadows her intent to generate entirely new feminine traditions and searching for answers (Marcus, Virginia 145). Woolf encourages women to personally participate and identify with her ideas. I will be discussing the reasons behind Japan s invasion of Papua, the course of the campaign, the outcome of the campaign and the significance it had on the Australian people and the soldiers involved. Port Moresby was an extremely important tactical position for both allied forces and the Japanese; as it would allow Japan to fulfil Operation FS and allow allied forces to attack north over the Kokoda trail towards the Japanese base at Rabaul (Austrialian Goverment: Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015). Through the completion of Operation FS, the Japanese would be able to throttle Australia into submission by cutting off communication and supply lines with the US , they planned to do so through the gradual extension of Japanese control over the islands in the South East Pacific around continental Australia (Pacific War Historical Society, n.d.). The problem was to find out if there is a succession (ecosystem development) of plant communities taking place. If the sand dune s closer to the lake are newer than those further inland, then, I believe succession will take place because the newest dunes do not have rich enough soilto support more complex plants like trees and shrubs growing in the areas that have already gone through later stage succession. The data supported our hypothesis. The area with the most vegetation was the C index. There were certain plants in abundance in certain indexes, however, most plants remained in every index. Wright s book, After You Believe, is mainly devoted to discussing how Christians need to act after they have received and believed in Jesus Christ. It is like discussing Part 2 of Christianity, with Part 1 simply being belief, and Part 2 being what is to follow. This book heavily revolves around Christian character, virtue, and how it is formed. N.T. Wright describes this as ...the transforming, shaping, and marking of a life and its habits (page 7) As Christians, many may ask what the end goal is. What is the purpose of living a life with virtue or good character? N.T. Wright presents three different options of what this might look like, and why it is important. The first option puts heaven as the final goal. This goal can only be achieved by faith in Jesus Christ because of his death and resurrection. We work towards this goal in what we do in our everyday lives. The second Christian model that Wright talks about is the goal of working towards God s kingdom through our own everyday activities. The default assumption in the discussion of morality is that, it is wrong to harm others (Kenneth, Andrew, Samuel C, 1983). As we say each and every person has the same right to live, it readily generates a responsibility to not to disturb other s lives. In depth, it automatically conveys the message, whose action influences the most should be most responsible in their works. This demands engineers to hold high standards of responsibility and commitment towards the society. The basic reason for my stance in this thesis is the importance and unique nature of engineering profession. There are two basic features which differentiates engineering profession. Engineers come across things and products mostly, rather than direct dealings with individual person. Furthermore, engineers work as a part of team or collective unlike most of the other profession (John, 1982). Even though, engineers act in groups, one should remember the fact that one is being governed doesn t degrade his moral responsibilities. Hence an individual working in a collective can also be said to possess quantifiable amount of moral responsibility towards the society, extend of which depends on the position and role he plays in the collective (Albert Deborah G, 1983). An example of this could be Mathew Broderick as Simba. Matthew Broderick is a well known actor in Ferris Bueller s Day Off, where he plays the role of a mischievous teenager. This doesn t suit the role of Simba who is a responsible, overprotective father. 4. As Fredrick slowly grows with each piece of new material he can acquire, it becomes more evident that Fredrick has also consecutively began to become depressed. Douglas greatest benefit from learning to read and write, however, was that he could now compose complete thoughts to paper and convey them to other people. This has allowed others to benefit from his work even after his passing. Fredrick Douglas educated himself because he thought it held value, something that could not be taken away from him. There are two main reasons Fredrick educated himself. Fredrick Douglas educated himself on the mannerisms to read and write because he wished to transcribe the struggles and feelings that he had during his enslavement and the only appropriate way to do that to ensure that everyone would hear his voice was to jot those words down to paper and see to it that they are published. The ability to read and write presented itself as an opportunity to freedom. As he developed and began thinking on a higher level it allowed for him to be more aware of his environment and opportunities. This became Fredrick s golden ticket . By 1850, Britain had changed in a number of social and economic ways, for a variety of reasons, primarily the industrial revolution as the historians O Brien and Quinault argue that Britain represented a potent example for Western Europeand the United States of what could be achieved highlighting British superiority and influence. The consequences of this momentous event can still be seen in Britain and around the world today due to the technological and scientific discoveries and innovations of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Child labour during this period was a serious problem children as young as 4 were expected to work in factories in dangerous conditions with low pay. Working conditions were not only problematic for children, but also for adults, illustrated by Engels, who argues that the industrial epoch had created filth, ruin and uninhabitableness, the defiance of all considerations of cleanliness, ventilation, and health highlighting the unsanitary and unsafe surroundings. However, the government attempted to solve this problem with the Factory Acts of 1833. Housing also became a problem as many poor people lived in tiny houses, with extremely bad sanitation, which in turn led to tuberculosis, cholera, typhoid and lung disease. However, while this is true, in the context of the time, the workers and middle class did benefit greatly from the Industrial Revolution in some way, as wages increased and widespread poverty and constant threat of mass starvation...lessened, [and] overall health and material conditions of the populace clearly improved . (Solzhenitsyn) In the story Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr.Jekyll has this battle of good and evil within himself. He has the idea to separate his evil half known as Mr. Hyde with a potion. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde focuses on duality of man and human nature. Stevenson develops the theme of good and evilthroughout the story using the setting, characters, and the city of London. In the beginning of the story Mr. Utterson, a lawyer, and Mr. Enfield, a doctor, are taking their normal sunday stroll, as they are walking they pass by a house that catches their attention. This house seems out of place, to be in the neighborhood they re in because they are in a richer neighborhood and the door on the house looks old and rugged. Which reminds Mr.Enfield of a story of a girl whom he witnessed getting trampled one night, and how he made the evil man who trampled her pay money to cover what he had done. The trampling of the girl is represented as an evil thing. Strangely, the check contained the name of a very respectable man which aroused Enfield s suspicions about the check. Enfield refuses to reveal the name on the check. However we find out that the evil man is actually Hyde and he wrote a check signed by Jekyll. No one has heard of Mr. Hyde so Mr. Utterson makes it his mission to find out more about Mr. Hyde. Utterson is a lawyer and, in fact he is Dr. Jekyll s lawyer he opens a safe that had Jekyll s will in it. He looks over it for a long time. The terms in the will say all of the doctor s possessions are to pass into the hands of his friend Edward Hyde if Dr. Jekyll disappears or has an unexplained absence. Utterson goes to visit Dr. Lanyon. He thinks that Lanyon can explain Dr. Jekyll s relationship to Hyde. Lanyon greets his friend into his home, and the two men talk for a while till Utterson says to Lanyon that they are probably two of the oldest friends that Henry Jekyll has. These islands were filled with exotic life. These creatures were prehistoric like, and not afraid of humans. This island was abundant with similar animals with slight variations. He found finches with small beaks used for insects and berries, and finches with much tougher beaks used for nuts. He determined that these creatures mutate in order to survive in their environment. This theory became known as survival of the fittest , or Natural Selection. Natural Selection is natural variations among a specie to insure the species reproductive success. During his voyage around the world, Darwin collected 1,500 animals, and 4,000 samples of skin and bones of his specimens. After his return, Darwin married his first cousin, Emma Wedgwood in 1839. Yet, what we do not know is that it is very possible that we could be sitting in a room with a future killer. When we hear the words serial killer or murderer, we most often see pictures of the famous killers or the ones actors portray on tv, but one of the biggest things we do not see are pictures of children. The biggest twist of all though is according to the Justice Department, it estimates about 10 percent of all homicides are committed by juveniles under the age of 18. Many juveniles are being tried as adults and possibly being locked up because of the crimes that they do, depending on how bad the crimeis and the juvenile s criminal history. Most children do not really know what they did or why they did but that does not excuse the fact that they took another person s life, regardless of what was actually going on during the time. Kids who do adult crimes should be put away from society for protection against themselves and others. The Egyptians had three different creation myths, all with different characteristics. The myth including Nun and Ptah do not include women, but they also do not identify that it was men created first.
