Hubble Space Telescope
The Universe is something that has been explored for years and years. Over time, our understandings
and beliefs on the Universe and our world has changed due to new technologies and discoveries. The
Big Bang Theory is one example of an concept that is actively believed within the scientific
community and has been made well known in our world today. This theory, which can be used to
explain the origin and age of our universe, has been refined over the years through a reviewing
process in the scientific community as more discoveries came in due to new technological
advancements.
Put simply, the Big Bang theory is most supported and believed theory on how the Universe began. It
essentially states that we began as a small singularity and over ... Show more content on

The Hubble Space Telescope is a telescope that was launched into space in 1990, April 24th. Its
primary function was to take pictures of stars, planets, moons, galaxies, etc. This type of telescope is
different from a telescope such as the Hooker Telescope as it is in space, rather than on Earth, and was
used for different things. Over the many years that this extraordinary telescope has orbited in space, it
has helped scientists with many new discoveries and refined previous theories or beliefs. One of the
biggest discoveries this telescope has made is the discovery of galaxies that we did not know of
previously because they were so far away. This discovery was very important as it has lead scientists
to calculating a more accurate age of the universe. The Hubble Space Telescope made this discovery
by observing Cepheid variables, which are stars with the same average brightness. Although, their
brightness is essentially the same, the stars would seem either brighter or dimmer depending on its
position in relation to Earth. For example, if one Cepheid variable was 100,000 light years away and
another Cepheid variable was 200,000 light years away, the second star would seem dimmer as it is
further away from the Earth and our perspective makes it look like it is not as bright. Scientists can
use this observation to work out around how far away a Cepheid variable, and ultimately a galaxy, is
from the Earth. Using this information and the pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope,
scientists were able to work out a more accurate age of the universe which was around 13.75 billion
years old. Without this sort of technology, we wouldn t know as much about the universe as we do
now and we may not have been able to refine our knowledge on the age of the universe. To sum up,
the Hubble Space Telescope is an important piece of

Analysis Of The Movie The Ghost Of The Shell Trailer
Since the beginning of media, producers have created products that applied to the biggest audience.
Unreliable political and current event information and bias leads to underrepresentation of various
ethnicities and identities. Mass media coverage portrays figures that appeals to the larger audience,
hence, isolating others.
The Ghost In The Shell trailer was released on Nov. 13 2016 and featured Scarlet Johansson a white
actress. The film is based on the Japanese manga series of the same name. The protagonist, Major
Kusanagi is simply referred to as The Major and erases the identity of the main character. To justify
the casting choice, screenwriter Max Landis stated: There are no A list female Asian celebrities right

And although I wasn t sure if it was going to resonate with him, I took him anyway. When Diego Luna
s character came on screen and started speaking, my dad nudged me and said, he has a heavy accent. I
was like, Yup. When the film was over and we were walking to the car, he turns to me and says, did
you notice that he had an accent? And I said, Yeah dad, just like yours. Then my dad asked me if the
film had made a lot of money. I told him it was the second highest grossing film of 2016 despite it
only being out for 18 days in 2016 (since new year just came around). He then asked me if people
liked the film, I told him that it had a huge following online and great reviews. He then asked me why
Diego Luna hadn t changed his accent and I told him that Diego has openly talked about keeping his
accent and how proud he is of it. And my dad was silent for a while and then he said, And he was a
main character. And I said, He was. And my dad was so happy. As we drove home he started telling
me about other Mexican actors that he thinks should be in movies in America. Representation matters.
[9]
Normalizing a diverse cast in film can often begin to gently lift the minority labels.
From 2007 2012, only 12.4 percent of speaking characters in the top 500 grossing films were played
by black actors. Although one might think that is fair, given that African Americans make up 12.6
percent of the population, the

The Northern Wars Of Aotearoa Essay
The Northern wars in Aotearoa.
In this paper my intention is to review the Northern wars known as te riri pakeha or white man s anger
that took place in 1843 1846, in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. It will also be defining and giving
understanding of the meaning of colonisation and the effects on the Māori people. This paper
concludes with the impact of the Northern wars on Māori wellbeing and health in 1843 and the
present.
The definition of colonisation is the forming of a settlement or colony by a group of people who seek
to take control of territories or countries . It usually involves large scale immigration of people to a
new location and the expansion of their civilization and culture in this area.Skwirk

australians and the european arrivals/colonisation it is my understanding that colonisation by the
British reinforced colonists views and that of the British Government. Religious beliefs, sovereign rule
under her majesty the Queen, European land ownership and legal systems were amongst the impacts
of colonisation on Māori customs. In December 1837 the British government decided in principle to
intervene in New Zealand to ensure that colonisation was regulated and that land transactions that
defrauded Māori were stopped. This led to the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. The Treaty of

Public College Boosting
. In the article Public College Boosting Aid to Wealthy as Poor Are Left Behind, by Marian Wand, the
author shares a story of little girl, Shauniqua Epps, she is 19 years old. Epps family lives in subsidized
housing in South Philadelphia. Epps father died when she was in the third grade, her mother lives on
social security which provides $698 a month. She has a good GPA and is also good in sports. She
applied for three colleges for higher education, but none of the colleges provided financial aid to her.
She did not go to any of the colleges because she could not afford the tuition. No one in family can

Deficiency in academic preparation occurs because of poor plans to attend college and an absence of
earlier experience of how the college environment works. The students from impoverished
backgrounds did not go to high level schools, so they do not have the college knowledge which is
needed to succeed in college and the future. In the article New Student Majority in South and West:
Poor Children by Sarah D. Sparks, the author shares that mostly in the south and southwest states
students live under poverty. Students academic careers are at a high risk because it is difficult to deal
with their problems. More than 50 % of the students live in poverty which is a pretty high rate, there
seems to be no place to get away from it. The biggest barrier for students in poverty is after graduating
from high school and deciding to move on to college. Most of the students from low socio economic
backgrounds always have a gap year after completing high school. They are not ready for college due
to the deficiency in language and quality of education.

Thomas Builds-The-Fire
topic C. in imagining the reservation, Alexie says Survival = Anger x Imagination. Using The Trial of
Thomas Builds the Fire, show how this formula works in the life of Thomas. How has he used his
anger and his imagination to survive? The story of the Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire represents the
author Sherman Alexie s famous quotation survival = anger x imagination very well. Thomas is
charged for nothing in particular except standing up and speaking out. He did it before, but agreed to
remain silent, and so charges were dropped: A quiet Indian man is the kind that sticks around. But his
anger grew, and after many years of complete silence, Builds the Fire reached his tipping point and
began to speak up again. To be stopped, he had to be arrested; to be convicted, his words had to be
twisted by law into crime. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Indians who came to hear his trial weep as he speaks of the slaughter of 800 beautiful ponies.
They are made proud as he tells of a single pony s rebellion. Even in this Alexie s equation is evident:
the anger, sadness, and resentment over injustice is poured into emotional fuel, which when harnessed
by Builds the Fire s stories becomes a reason to stand straighter. In the midst of hardship inspiration
has to be found in order make it through. Thomas transforms his rigged trial into a platform to speak
out from, he tells the stories he and his people need to survive. He brings attention back again to the
Native plight. The golf course being named after Qualchan isn t just another misdeed, it s a sign that
even the Natives are losing sight of what they NEED to be proud of and to remember. Thomas
survives what is thrown at him (the unfair arrest, the rigged trial, the eventual biased conviction)
because he has to, his imagination and anger over Native memory losses of tradition pushes his

Atomic Bombs On Hiroshima, Japan, And The United States
August 6th 1945, the United States dropped the first of two atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Japan. World
War Two was practically over, but Japan and the United States weren t getting along due to Japan
bombing Pearl Harbor. The President of the United States (Truman) and U.K. Prime Minister Winston
Churchill Issued the Potsdam Declaration which was the declaration that was put on the table for
Japan after Germany had surrendered. Earlier in the war we had been putting together atomic weapons
in case the war was getting out of hand. Since Japan wouldn t surrender after the Potsdam we dropped
the 1st bomb. Japan had still not surrendered so we dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. There
was a combined total of casualties after the 1st bomb of 140,000. The second bomb totaled out to
120,000 casualties. Dropping these bombs helped the United States win the war. In my Opinion, the
decision to drop both bombs on Japan was the best alternative the United States had to remain stable
and to hold military lives. There are many reasons the United States choose to drop the Atomic bomb.
According to the White House press release the decision was pretty much made up after the Potsdam
declaration, which gave Japan the opportunity to surrender, was refused by Japan so the United States
was then in full force. Their leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum. If they do not now accept our
terms they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this

In return for this information, he informs Emiko of a refuge camp in northern Thailand where her kind

Raleigh and escape to this camp. The next focus of the book is on Jaidee Rojjanasukchai, a

Apostles Persecution
Before the glorified Savior ascended into heaven, He told His Apostles to feed my sheep (John 21:16)
and teach His gospel to the world. And that is precisely what they did, empowered by priesthood
authority from Christ Himself and with personal testimonies of Christ s Atonement and Resurrection.
They fanned out from the Holy Land, teaching and converting people to Christ s Church, meeting with
great success but also suffering tremendous persecution in the process. The Apostles first converts
were other Jews, and indeed many practices of Christ s church mirrored some of the Jewish tradition:
public worship, a religious calendar, an exclusively male priesthood, sacred music, viewing the Old
Testament as scripture, and practices such as fasting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of the Gospels in the hands of the people was the kindling that ignited the movement, which began in

Evidence-Based Decision-Making Model Analysis
Bethel University (2010) refers to the need to make the best decisions based on the data you have.
This is evidence based decision making (EBDM). Kreitner and Kinicki (2013) define EBDM as a
process of conscientiously using the best available data and evidence when making decisions. There is
a five step model to evidence based decision making that includes identifying the problem or
opportunity, gaither internal data or evidence about the problem and evaluate its relevance and
validity, gather external evidence about the problem from published research, gather views from the
stakeholders affected by the decisions and consider ethical implications, and integrate and critically
appraise all data and then make a decision (Kreitner and Kinicki,

How Did Ancient Egypt Created A Form Of Communication
The ancient Egyptians created a form of communication by creating symbols that were put together
into words, called hieroglyphs. They represented both objects and ideas, and were enscripted and
carved on walls of temples and pyramids, usually made by the pharaoh to show laws, rules, or
announcements. This type of writing held secret messages, and was hard to decode. The hieroglyphic
system used in ancient Egypt had around 750 basic symbols, called glyphs. At first they used picture
writing, and the pictures represented an object, pictograms, but later the pictures represented ideas,
known as ideograms. At last, the pictures represented both objects and ideas, but also the sound of a
word. Each picture was formed by a unique sound and image.

Ancient Greece And Modern Medieval Europe
Many historians and scientists regard Europe as completely devoid of interest in the history of science.
Contemptuously, medieval Europe is most often referred to as the Dark Ages, the epithet clearly
illustrating the struggles of the time period and disdain for this part of history. The modern perception
of medieval society is overwhelmingly dominated by a skewed interpretation of a barbaric, war torn
civilization barely surviving through suffrage of plague and poverty that stifled nearly every aspect of
development. Spanning from 500 to 1400 AD medieval Europe stands as a pale, superstitious shadow
of the Greek and Roman ages of reason and high philosophy. Undoubtedly, the golden era of
prosperity that preceded this time is much of the reason why Europe struggled for many years after its
collapse, and additionally, why many historians view it as such an unimpressive time period. Possibly
one of the most popularly known time periods in all of history, the Roman Empire established itself
with a long list of progressive accomplishments in just about every aspect of its society. A culmination
of Ancient Greece and the Hellenistic period, the Roman Empire s innovatory nature fostered
continuously advancing developments, especially in the sciences. Scientific achievements range from
major architectural developments to progress in astronomy, mathematics and medicine. However,
despite the number of scientific advances, it is hard to argue against almost completely irrefutable

The Facts About The Achievement Gap Summary
How should society handle the perceived differences between races when it comes to education? The
goal of both researchers is to narrow the academic gap between white and black students. Both authors
attribute the gap between the academic scores of black and white students from opposite sides of
racial identity. As Dr. Beverly Daniels Tatum, President of Spelman College and clinical psychologist
has written an article entitled Why are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? Her
approach is from the perspective of the student and how they perceive their role and upper limits while
maintaining their place in their peer group s expectations of their race. Dr. Diane Ravitch, a research
professor of education at New York University, has written an article entitled The Facts about the
Achievement Gap. Her approach is from the perspective of how schools and society implicitly or
explicitly cast students into achievement tracks based on their race. Both approach the same idea
about racial identity, but they have different solutions, such as peer groups, the school board, and who
is right about the solution. First, Tatum suggests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Richard Coley of the Educational Testing Service wrote an overview of the black white achievement
gap over the course if the twentieth century and concluded that the period in which that gap narrowed
most was the 1970s and 1980s (Ravitch 365). Over the past generation, there was a remarkable

Digital And Technology And Copyright
Technology and Copyright
Introduction
Digital and networking technology have vastly reshaped the way the world acquires and uses
knowledge; by increasing the amount of creative content that is available to everyone worldwide and
the variety of sources from which an individual can choose to acquire that data. This content is often
created by many individuals collaborating to form large groups of people who all contribute creative
content. Intellectual property (IP) is the content that is created by either an individual or a group of
individuals. The distribution of free content, software, and ideas has successfully limited many
societies dependency for established channels of distribution and production [cyberethics]. More and
more however as the internet becomes a digitally real the ability to go to the internet and escape the
established channels of distribution has become increasingly difficult, concerns over the legal issues
with the way some, or at times most, of the ways material is acquired. Some experts believe that
intellectual property laws have stifled the access to many of these works, and in doing so have
decreased the rate at which the creative content can expand, grow, and progress. Laws like the Digital
Millennial Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Copyright Term Extension Act (CTEA) have shifted,
perhaps unfairly, the balance between intellectual property owners and the general users of these
creative works. These laws have been put into affect for the sole

For most opera organizations, ticket sales contributed around 40% of the operating budget. Over the
past fifteen years, main season attendance at opera performances fluctuated between 3 and 4 million,
compared to eight to eleven million for Broadway shows and 25 to 30 million for symphony
orchestras. Some opera managers speculated that audience exhaustion with repetitive repertoire had
contributed to a decline in attendance. Others attributed the lack of interest to poor awareness of
individual opera singers. (Gelb) The majority of fund operations came from government grant for
many arts organizations, but at the same time a much greater percentage of non ticket revenues,
roughly 41%, came from private contributions. It is still important for the business to attract more
individual customers. The whole industry needs innovation. Peter Gelb and his The Met Opera played
a role as the leader of this innovation. The new way of increasing revenue that was introduced by
Peter Gelb brings a new idea for this industry to keep alive in the 21st century with no doubt.
Internally, like other companies focus on human resources, to work with which singers is a top

dozens of opera singers and musician. Becoming a professional opera singer required years of vocal

Criticisms Of Humanities Essay
There are many criticisms of the humanities and counter arguments against those criticisms. This
response will attempt the explain value of studying the humanities, and the criticisms of humanities.
According to the dictionary humanities is learning or literature concerned with human culture,
especially literature, history, art, music, and philosophy. Through exploration of these subjects, we
have found that humanities has played an important role in the world overall. Humanities gives us the

For instance, a journalism student who may want to pursue a career in the media is prepared to learn
in various forms, analyze information, evaluate that information, and communicate it to others. The
ability to do this is required in almost every career today. But wait it gets better, a journalism student is
not only capable of understanding information, they also are prepared to understand humans, culture,
art, and literature. The understanding of these topics tie into careers in the government, social work,
medical fields, and more. For example, if an EMT arrives at the scene of an accident where a man is
unresponsive he must use the surroundings and an in depth thought process in order to respond to the
needs of an unresponsive person in a timely matter. While neither of these people went into disciplines
devoted to the study of money they contribute to our society and our world. With that being said,
studying the humanities may not promise you with a significant amount of money, but then again
Oprah was a humanities major and is now worth 3.2 billion dollars.
Another criticism of the humanities is the scientific argument, according to mapping the future the
modern research university is the child of the eighteenth century enlightenment. The enlightenment
produced two related modes at arriving at knowledge, the experiment and the model. The knowledge
produced by the humanities looks soft by comparison,

The Case Of Enric Duran
The case of Enric Duran is not within the stereotypical remit of Business ethics. Nevertheless, the
ethical implications and the outcomes of Duran s actions highlight some potential intrinsic flaws that
are present in the current state of affairs that govern businesses and how they impact the general well
being of society. There is no negating that the economic activist, who in 2009 went into hiding to
avoid the repercussions of his actions, has broken the law and in no way, can ethical theories such as
Kantian deontology, shareholder and stakeholder views condone his actions. However, without

In Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals Kant argues that, [we] ought never to act in such a way
that [we] couldn t also will that the maxim on which [we] act should be a universal law, (Kant, 2005)
as such, one of the fundamental prescribed rubrics in Kantian deontology is being defied by Duran.
Whilst I can appreciate the intensions of Duran in his economical vendetta, there is little opposition to
the view that if we were all to steal that the overall outcome would not be beneficial for society in. in
fact it is rather the converse of Duran s actions that would likely bring out a positive change in society.
Maxims such as, do not steal sufficiently meet the requirements of Kant s categorical imperatives. The
blatant disregard of the instructions Kant provides can only lead me to state that in terms of
deontological ethics, Duran is acting unethically. However, I must stipulate that whilst he may be
acting unethically in relation to deontology, Duran may be acting in an ethical manner when we
consider other theories.
Nonetheless, before I attempt to prove the ethical intentions of Duran, I must also present other
theories that, if following their discourse, provide significant critique and defamation of Duran s
actions. Specifically, I am alluding to Shareholder and Stakeholder theories of business. Whilst there
could potentially be, in my opinion, a minor case for some support from the stakeholder view in terms
of the responsibility

Main Causes Of The English Civil War
The English Civil War were multiple events of armed battles and political machinations between
Parliamentarians(Roundheads) and Royalists(Cavaliers) over the English government.
There were multiple battles in the English Civil war, also at different times. The war went on from
August 22 1642 to September 3 1651. Some of the main battles were Edgehill, Marston Moor, and the
battle of Naseby.America was involved in this war and it is one of their only Civil Wars ever. There
were a lot of casualties in the war, and a lot of long battles fought.
The English Civil War was taken place in the Kingdom of England and was nine years long. Religion
was a major cause of the Civil War, mostly stemmed from problems between Charles I and the
Parliament over an Irish insurrection. The war included the Parliament, the Aristocracy, the middle
classes, the commoners, and other armies. The Parliament was the highest legislature of the House of
Lords, a commoner was an ordinary person, the Aristocracy is the highest class in particular societies,
and the middle class are people who are in between the working class and the upper class. There were
supporters of the King and supporters of the Parliament which was led by Oliver Cromwell, it just all
depended on what they believed in. The war also involved other kingdoms ruled by the Stuart
Dynasty, Scotland and Ireland. This conflict left around 34,000 Parliamentarians and 50,000 Royalists

Masculinity And Femininity
Although complementary, the stories told about masculinity and femininity have very different
impacts on those that feel pressured to conform to them, or are subject to experience their effects by
others who do. A particularly insidious source of these stories comes from advertisements, as noted by
Jean Kilbourne in Killing Us Softly 4 (2010). She quotes a statement by the editor in chief of an
advertising magazine that only 8% of an ad s message is received by the conscious mind. The rest is
worked and reworked deep within the recesses of the brain . The internalization of the messages from
these advertisements unwittingly teaches men and women what is expected of them, and what is
desirable. For women, it is taught that femininity requires flawless beauty, with unnaturally smooth
skin (preferably light toned), shiny hair, dimple free curves cinched by a tiny waist, and a graceful
demeanor. It is taught that women must pursue this image, whether it be through the purchase of
cosmetics or surgical procedures, or diet products and exercise programs. These advertisements often
depict women as having elegance and sensuality in their passiveness lounging around as they enjoy
beauty products or indulgent foods, or draped upon powerful men. They must act as though they enjoy
being objectified; welcoming men s advances, even in violent or dangerous situations. In contrast,
men in advertisements are encouraged to model masculinity through violence, dismissal of emotions

Worldview s Ability To Work In Global Health
The worldview an individual holds is weighted and manipulated by the experiences, morals/values,
customs, and aspects individuals develop during life. Through these factors and more, a person s
worldview differentiates from another. This then creates principles, questions, views, and cultures that
are/can be shared by communities and society as a whole. In a simpler context of words, a person s
worldview is the way they see the world, and how this perspective shapes the way a person lives.
When transferring these fundamental aspects to my own life, I am then able to expand the effect in
relation to how it guides my ability to work in Global Health. This established awareness then allows
me to modify my attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors in order to further my acceptance of others. ... Show

Persia And Greece
Nowadays, technology may be considered the issue of tremendous consequence. It provides all
spheres of the life being as well as people throughout the planet with the possibility of permanent
development. However, the impact of technology may be also harmful and result in negative outcomes
in the long run. There are many historical examples of how civilizations, which had all predispositions
to successful development, ceased to exist under the influence of the technological aspects. Ronald
Wright states that one of the key debatable issues of the progress is dealing with innovations.
According to the scholar, innovations not only result in new opportunities but also in problems, which

Greece is also famous for its great philosophers, like Socrates and Plato, who developed many
theoretical issues, which are relevant even today. Darius the First is considered a consolidator of the
Persian Empire. He managed to develop a strong organizational structure of the country, which lasted
for nearly two hundred years. Xerxes, the son of Darius I, continued the policy of his father. However,
the unsuccessful wars with Greece had a significantly negative impact on the further process of the
development of Persia. An enormous amount of unrecoverable resources, like timber, was used to
build ships and maintain an army. After the death of Xerxes in 465 B.C., Persia did not have a strong
ruler and, consequently, the process of decline started. From the side of the possible impact of
technology on the development of civilization, the situation in Persia is controversial. Despite the fact
the country had valuable mineral resources copper, tin, silver, gold, and iron, people had limited
knowledge concerning the peculiarities of minerals extraction. Therefore, the utilization of the
resources was also limited. The situation with agriculture was unsuccessful. People at that time faced

and how they were prime examples of the negative affects lying can create. My writing will improve
more and more because of the newfound ability to catch the reader s attention thus persuading them

Hildegard Von Bingen
Music has been around for ages and still plays a critical role in everyone s life. During the Medieval
period, many turned to the arts and music to cope with the hardships of that time. The history of music
is best told by the styles that emerged and the composers who lived during the Medieval period. One
composer, by the name of Hildegard Von Bingen, changed the way people saw music during this time.
In this essay, I will analyze O Virtus Sapientiae by Hildegard Von Bingen.
When listening to Hildegard s piece, my temporary state of mind becomes more serene and spiritual
(Mood). The piece creates an atmosphere that helps me forget about my troubles and gives me hope.
Because the song sounds like something you would hear if you were to go to church to worship, it
makes me think of religion; Specifically being at church (Imagery). As I listened and closed my eyes, I
could picture myself sitting in church and looking at the light that passes through the stained glass

Melody relates to pitches that are in succession. We know this because there s a female vocalist who is
moving from one note to the next and only singing that note at a time. The Viola being played only
plays one note at a time and serves as a drone. A drone is a rudimentary version of Medieval harmony
which is a single, sustained pitch played or sung as accompaniment. The melodic style of the song is
Legato, or notes that are smooth and connected in style. At the timestamp 2:24 2:27, the vocals are at
the highest and loudest point of the melody, which is called a melodic climax. This musical element
helps draws attention to specific words in the text. Hildegard specifically manipulated musical
elements in order to bring emphasis to certain words in a text, an effect in which she shows that music

African Vs. African American Experiences And Relations
African vs. African American Experiences and Relations in Determining the Binding Factor between
the Two Groups of People
Introduction:
Marcus Garvey, a proponent of Black Nationalism and Pan Africanism movements (), once stated that
a people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots. (Good
Reads Quotes) He was in fact very much so right. Most people in this world care about where they
come from, who they descended from and where the backbone of their identity lies. Have you ever
wondered why almost most orphans tend to look for their family lines or go out in search of where
they belong? It is with this very essence my quest to look for answers and investigate about two very
distinct yet similar groups. The groups I examine throughout this paper are Africans and African
Americans. What I seek to find out is why two very distinct yet similar groups of people fail to see eye
to eye, judging from the fact that Africans and African Americans look alike, originated from Africa
and their histories and culture somehow intertwine with each other. The main question here really is:
what are the factors that hinder the relationship between Africans and African American people.
The purpose of my research paper is to build awareness, which has been disconnected between the
two groups. This paper will underline the very basis of the chasms that have caused this disconnect
between African Americans and Africans. Awareness is essential

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Simulation
Simulation is a software package for modeling, simulating, and analyzing dynamical systems. It
supports linear and non linear systems, modeled in continuous time, sampled time, or a hybrid of the
two. Systems can also be multi rate, i.e., have different parts that are sampled or updated at different
rates. For modeling, Simulink provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for building models as block
diagrams, using click and drag mouse operations. With this interface, you can draw the models just as
you would with pencil and paper (or as most textbooks depict them). This is a far cry from previous
simulation packages that require you to formulate differential equations in a language or program.
Simulink includes a comprehensive block library of a sinks, sources, linear and non linear
components, and connectors. You can customize and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

more precise, I feel that this behavior is both the second and third type of strain. The second strain

Squid And The Whale
The Squid and the Whale
A Critical Analysis
Written and directed by Noah Baumbach, this film is set in Brooklyn, New York City, 1986. Some
critics claim that it is almost autobiographical of Baumbach s life and the painful and confusing
experience he went through when his own parents were in the process of divorce. The most obvious
central theme of the movie is divorce and the crisis it causes within the family as each member is
attempting to rearrange themselves, both inside their heads and in the outside world. Looking deeper,
the film can also be seen as a coming of age story of two young boys, one on the verge of his teen
years and the other on the verge of young adulthood. What makes this film special is just how
painfully real it is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chinese Air Pollution
History of Air Pollution in China
During the 1980s, China underwent a series of industrial changes leading to severe air pollution
(Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen,
Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007; Schmidt, Olicker, 2004). As industries in large cities expanded, the
resources required to manufacture goods produced pollution in the air (Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone,
Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007;
Schmidt, Olicker, 2004). Over the years China continues to be one of the top manufactures in the
world, making industries increase their revenue demands. Although this change has assisted in China s
economic development and growth, it has also damaged the environment these individuals live in.
Industries in China have no mandatory rules and regulations that forces companies to control what is
released into the air. Thus, greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide are released freely causing
severe damages in the environment (Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang,
Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007. In terms of air pollution, China
even seems to be surpassing other countries globally (World Health Organization, 2010). Data shows
that the most serious cases of air pollution in the world are located in nine cities in China and about
1/3 of the 113 cities failed the national

Religious Significance The Pantheon And The Dome Of The Rock
Kathryn Shim

Professor Moser
TA Ginny Reynolds, Wednesday 5pm
The Religious Significance the Pantheon and the Dome of the Rock Convey
Architecture comes with many significant meanings, including religious significance. The Pantheon,
built from 118 to 125 CE in Rome, Italy, was a temple made to worship the Roman gods and
goddesses. This temple is one of the most important buildings both in history and architecture,
influencing many other monuments with its form, such as The Dome of the Rock. The Dome of the
Rock, built from 687 to 692 CE, was the first great Islamic building. Located in Jerusalem, it is a
shrine still very significant to many religions, such as Judaism and Christianity, today. Though not
resembling each other in appearance, these buildings are extremely similar, in terms of religious
meaning. The Pantheon and the Dome of the Rock, through their own distinctive form and similar
location backgrounds, illuminate religion as the most important factor in each society, as these
monuments symbolize a sense of unification throughout the city. The Dome of the Rock and the
Pantheon are constructed similarly. The Dome of the Rock was even influenced by the Pantheon, built
on a domed central plan structure. While the two buildings look different in appearance, they have
similar forms. They both contain geometric structures. In the front, the Pantheon has a porch, with a
triangular top. Behind this porch is a cylinder base with a hemispherical dome

These allegations surfaced when a Hispanic lawyer contacted Wal Mart headquarters in Bentonville

The Hobbit Songs
The mountain smoked beneath the moon; The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom.(15) The Hobbit
by J.R.R. Tolkien is a tale comprised almost solely of mystique and heroics. One facet of this precious
story is given through song. The songs are meant to give a picture of the past and also to foreshadow
what is to come. In the case of the dwarf party, their songs spoke of a past event, the moving of a wind
over the land, and their triumphant return to the halls of their ancestors. Song singing is a great
medium for sharing information as well as feelings, and Tolkien used this medium well. First, the first
song we hear through the book is Misty Mountain and was sung by the dwarves pining for their
ancestral home. Thorin started the song and all joined in the retelling of their greatest defeat. They
sing of a return to their home and of the wondrous happenings that once occurred there. Smaug s
coming is the solemn climax of this sorrowful song. The mountain smoked beneath the moon; The
dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom. They fled their hall to dying fall Beneath his feet, beneath the
moon. (15) Grimly Misty Mountain sets up the book as a serious journey of a wronged people to
restore their honor and family. The song delves deeper into the dwarves character and shows the
determination to get justice and reclaim what is theirs, but in addition it shows them as a sophisticated
race that were once kings and craftsmen. Misty Mountain leaves you feeling haunted and in

The Buddha And Its Effect On Life
Dukkha is a Pali word, which in basic or ordinary terms may be translated to meaning suffering,
dissatisfaction, pain, sorrow or misery. However, as the first of the four noble truths, which
symbolizes the Buddha s take on life, it has additional deeper, philosophical meanings such as:
imperfection, impermanence, emptiness, and insubstantiality (What the Buddha taught, 17).
Since Buddhism represents a more realistic and objective take on life, the term suffering, does not
necessarily indicate a pessimistic or depressing view of life. Rather, the Buddha is teaching that in life,
at one point or the other, we are bound to experience suffering or dissatisfaction, whether we choose to
acknowledge it or not. The Buddha does not deny that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thirst is surrounded with passionate greed (nandiragasahagata), which comes in three forms:
namely: thirst for sense pleasures (kama tanha), which is a craving for things or objects that provide us
with pleasant feelings, thirst for existence and becoming (bhaa tanha), which is a craving to be
someone or something with a purpose or meaning that actually has an impact on others, a craving to
achieve ones goals, and lastly, thirst for non existence (self annihilation, vibhavatanha), which is a
craving to be detached or separated from things that cause pain or suffering (What the Buddha taught,
29).
The origin of Dukkha also comprises of other forms of cravings. This thirst is not only limited to
desiring or attaching ourselves to worldly things such as riches and fame but also desiring and
attaching ourselves to notions, philosophies, views, sentiments, concepts, and beliefs (dhamma tanha)
(What the Buddha taught, 29).
According to the Buddha, all the bad and unjust issues going on in the world at large, ranging from
family matters to huge wars, which destroy countries, is as a result of greed and selfish thirst. This
claim is very true especially in our world today. For example, the Second World War began because of
Adolf Hitler s greed. Also, we see many families, especially in the western parts of Africa divided as a

Bail Laws ( Nsw )
Bail laws (NSW)
Bail has always been part of the common law system. In NSW, they have based their concept from the
Statue of Westminster I (1275), where there are different categories that separates who are to be bailed
or refused bail, which had become part of the Bail Act 1978 (NSW) and was enforced from March
1980. Bail Act 2013 (NSW) is the only other law that replaced Bail Act 1978 (NSW), but was
amended by Bail Amendment Act 2014 (NSW), which is the final replacement coming into full effect
in 28th January 2015.
In Section 4 of the Bail Act 1978, it states that authorisation to be at liberty under this Act, instead of
in custody . This is otherwise known as bail, the act of permitting a person to a brief period of freedom
who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the prosecution can provide sufficient reasoning of why bail cannot be granted, the assumption of
bail can be revoked.
Serious drug related offences can also disprove the presumption for bail and (likewise towards
aggressive offences) the accused must reason why bail should be permitted.
Issue and effect on individuals and society
Prior to 28th January 2015, bail laws posed significant loopholes in the system and are deemed to be
ineffective to achieve justice. Accused offenders may get away with bail based with evidence in the
case if it does not seem to pose a threat to the community. The problem persists within the conditions
set for their bail, as responsibility lies upon the magistrate or police to impose appropriate conditions.
However, though conditions do vary, it possesses a significant risk if the conditions enforced were not
strict enough, opening vulnerabilities for the accused to commit another crime, slipping through their
enforced conditions.
Yet not enough has been done to alert the community of this flaw, which thus continued to believe that
the criminal law system is protecting them. Effects are potentially dangerous, as individuals would
face the growing rate of criminal activity and with limited policing resources, not everyone ensured to
be protected in an unsafe suburban environment. If this issue continued to remain unresolved in the
long term, it would slowly corrupt society values, with more individuals

The Role of Women in Doyle´s A Scandal in Bohemia Essay
Doyle s A Scandal in Bohemia follows the story of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes on his
adventures to retrieve a disgraceful photograph of Irene Adler and the King of Bohemia. The king,
now engaged to a different woman, is fearful that Adler may use the photo as blackmail. In A Scandal
in Bohemia, the apparent role of women is minuscule. The only female emphasis is on one woman,
who is the object of Holmes detective inquiries. In A Scandal in Bohemia, society places women at a
subordinate level, pushing them to the background and therefore never allowing the reader to fully
understand their character. Watson describes women as second class citizens at the start of the story
without directly saying so. Watson comments: My own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The King also fears the revelation of the scandalous photograph simply because it lies in the hands of
a woman. His interests to dominate this woman, Irene Adler, are evident in the callous actions the
King directs towards her. The King states, Five attempts have been made. Twice burglars in my pay
ransacked her house. Once we diverted her luggage when she traveled. Twice she has been waylaid.
There has been no result (218). This disdain and oblivion towards Adler s privacy leads one to
reassess the King s motives. Is he actually interested in the photograph or do his actions focus solely
on hurting Irene Adler? The King wants the upper hand on this beautiful, yet extremely intelligent
woman. The King s attitude towards his future wife and his former lover, Irene Adler, fits into society
s narrowly defined roles of women. In British Victorian society, women were the nurtures and the
protectors of the children, and what some deemed as only monetarily valuable items. This female
instinct to nurture is one stereotype that is greatly reflected in the personality of Irene Adler. Adler s
willingness to help is a quality that Watson, as well as other men in society, felt all women should
possess. Watson acknowledges this nurturing tendency when he says, but I know that I never felt more
heartily ashamed of myself when I saw the beautiful creature against which I was conspiring, or the
grace and kindliness with which she

Oedipus Rex – The Women Essay
Oedipus Rex The Women
Charles Segal in Oedipus Tyrannus: Tragic Heroism and the Limits of Knowledge explains the
protagonist s concern for Jocasta s burial in Sophocles Oedipus Rex:
Oedipus turns from his utter desolation and abasement to something of his old air of command, albeit
in a chastened and softened tone. He asks Creon to expel him from Thebes as quickly as he can and
gives orders for Jocasta s burial (1446ff), a gesture of concern and responsibility characteristic of the
Oedipus we saw in the opening scenes(73).
Oedipus attitude toward Jocasta in death is it the same as in life? This essay will answer the previous
question and many other questions regarding women in Oedipus Rex. ... Show more content on

The critic Ehrenberg warns that it may lead to hubris (74 75). Throughout the drama Sophocles draws
out an ongoing contrast between the godlike mastery of the king and the softer, more balanced and
selfless characteristics of Jocasta, his wife. She is a foil to Oedipus. Shortly thereafter Creon, Jocasta s
brother, is returning from the Delphic oracle with the fateful words of the god s command: He fell;
and now the god s command is plain: /Punish his takers off, whoe er they be. Immediately Oedipus
boldly launches a campaign to do what is best for his people and for himself:
I also, as is meet, will lend my aid
To avenge this wrong to Thebes and to the god.
Not for some far off kinsman, but myself,
Shall I expel this poison in the blood;
For whoso slew that king might have a mind
To strike me too with his assassin hand.
Oedipus, in his public proclamation regarding punishment for the killer of King Laius, shows more
lenient treatment toward the guilty party if he confesses his crime: I summon him to make clean shrift
to me./And if he shrinks, let him reflect that thus /Confessing he shall scape the capital charge .
Oedipus, in his cross examination of the holy man Teiresias, shows his mastery to be more human and
less godlike: Monster! thy silence would incense a flint. /Will nothing loose thy tongue? Can nothing
melt thee, /Or shake thy dogged taciturnity? The king is confronted with Teiresias

Who Is Hassan A Foil In The Kite Runner
There is no good if there is no bad, a recurring motif throughout many fiction novels. This novel was
narrated by Amir, the protagonist, but was named in honor of Hassan, a secondary character, who was
the kite runner . The Kite Runner introduces an inspiring character like Hassan, he is one of the
bravest characters, the heart of Afghanistan, and is one of the most complex characters, but has an
instinctual nature which makes him a simple character to understand. Hassan s purpose in the novel is
to be the foil of Amir. Initially, the story came to be when Hosseini thought of giving Hassan an alter
ego, and contrasting it to Hassan s purity and benevolence. Whereas Hassan knows exactly what he
wants in life, the alter ego is troubled and wrenched with insecurities ... Show more content on

Hassan had it tougher than Amir at the very beginning, he was born into a difficult life by being raised
by a Hazara servant. Which as a result, he learns that it is his duty to sacrifice himself for others. For
instance, he wakes up every morning to get Amir ready for school while he is held back doing
housework, and even tells Amir he is happy with what he has, although he clearly sees what he lacks
himself. On other several different accounts he was taking advantage of his selflessness from being
raped for the sake of keeping Amir s winning kite in tack, which he knew meant a great deal to him.
Yardley reviews Hosseini s second book where it is about the story of these two women, which
reaches its climax in an act of extraordinary generosity and self sacrifice (3) Hosseini adopted the
theme of sacrifice in both of his novels, where a character voluntarily sacrifices something so dear to
them, in Hassan s cases his innocence. By Hassan having the crucial trait of being selfless, it is the
motor to all the event that foreshadow. Perhaps if Hassan was not as selfless, Amir and Assef would
have not taken advantage of

Vygotsky, Zone Of Proximal Development
According to Vygotsky, zone of proximal development, or abbreviated as ZPD, is a learning concept
that states a child cannot yet master alone even though they are close to having the necessary mental
skills; they need guidance from a skilled partner to complete the task. This relates to his theory of
general development because he believed social interaction plays an important role in the process of
cognitive development and as stated above, ZPD requires human interaction to guide a child through
what can be seen as a learning curve. With this project where a child has to do an easy puzzle (10
pieces or less) on their own versus a hard puzzle (50 pieces or more) with the help of an adult,
Vygotsky would predict that the child will be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second puzzle was a 50 piece puzzle that was a normal puzzle where he needed to complete it to
form an image. With the second puzzle, Joel struggled due to its size and it took him longer than the
first puzzle. While Joel was doing both puzzle, Miss Angie kept the atmosphere of the place very
warm, inviting and supportive by talking to him and asking him about his life. She also cheered on
him when he connected the right piece. For the first puzzle, Joel completed it in just 5 seconds, so that
rate of that is 1 piece per 1 second. Perhaps he had done that puzzle already because when Miss Angie
showed it to Joel, he said this one again? . For the second puzzle, Joel completed it in 6 minutes (360
seconds), which is roughly 0.13 piece per second. During the easy puzzle, the child task behavior and
child motivation were more frequent than the harder puzzle because with the harder puzzle, Joel was
more distracted and not as focused as the first puzzle and the sheer number of pieces made the process
even more daunting than it was for him. There was no adult motivation/task behaviors involved with
the first puzzle, because it was so easy that Joel completed it too quick for any interaction between
Miss Angie and himself. But for the harder puzzle, it was opposite, there were more of the adult
motivation/task behaviors than the first puzzle because Joel needed Miss Angle to be there to guide
him through the

  • 2. Hubble Space Telescope The Universe is something that has been explored for years and years. Over time, our understandings and beliefs on the Universe and our world has changed due to new technologies and discoveries. The Big Bang Theory is one example of an concept that is actively believed within the scientific community and has been made well known in our world today. This theory, which can be used to explain the origin and age of our universe, has been refined over the years through a reviewing process in the scientific community as more discoveries came in due to new technological advancements. Put simply, the Big Bang theory is most supported and believed theory on how the Universe began. It essentially states that we began as a small singularity and over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hubble Space Telescope is a telescope that was launched into space in 1990, April 24th. Its primary function was to take pictures of stars, planets, moons, galaxies, etc. This type of telescope is different from a telescope such as the Hooker Telescope as it is in space, rather than on Earth, and was used for different things. Over the many years that this extraordinary telescope has orbited in space, it has helped scientists with many new discoveries and refined previous theories or beliefs. One of the biggest discoveries this telescope has made is the discovery of galaxies that we did not know of previously because they were so far away. This discovery was very important as it has lead scientists to calculating a more accurate age of the universe. The Hubble Space Telescope made this discovery by observing Cepheid variables, which are stars with the same average brightness. Although, their brightness is essentially the same, the stars would seem either brighter or dimmer depending on its position in relation to Earth. For example, if one Cepheid variable was 100,000 light years away and another Cepheid variable was 200,000 light years away, the second star would seem dimmer as it is further away from the Earth and our perspective makes it look like it is not as bright. Scientists can use this observation to work out around how far away a Cepheid variable, and ultimately a galaxy, is from the Earth. Using this information and the pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, scientists were able to work out a more accurate age of the universe which was around 13.75 billion years old. Without this sort of technology, we wouldn t know as much about the universe as we do now and we may not have been able to refine our knowledge on the age of the universe. To sum up, the Hubble Space Telescope is an important piece of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unreliable political and current event information and bias leads to underrepresentation of various ethnicities and identities. Mass media coverage portrays figures that appeals to the larger audience, hence, isolating others. The Ghost In The Shell trailer was released on Nov. 13 2016 and featured Scarlet Johansson a white actress. The film is based on the Japanese manga series of the same name. Then my dad asked me if the film had made a lot of money. I told him it was the second highest grossing film of 2016 despite it only being out for 18 days in 2016 (since new year just came around). He then asked me if people liked the film, I told him that it had a huge following online and great reviews. He then asked me why Diego Luna hadn t changed his accent and I told him that Diego has openly talked about keeping his accent and how proud he is of it. From 2007 2012, only 12.4 percent of speaking characters in the top 500 grossing films were played by black actors. • 4. The Northern Wars Of Aotearoa Essay The Northern wars in Aotearoa. In this paper my intention is to review the Northern wars known as te riri pakeha or white man s anger that took place in 1843 1846, in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. It will also be defining and giving understanding of the meaning of colonisation and the effects on the Māori people. This paper concludes with the impact of the Northern wars on Māori wellbeing and health in 1843 and the present. The definition of colonisation is the forming of a settlement or colony by a group of people who seek to take control of territories or countries . It usually involves large scale immigration of people to a new location and the expansion of their civilization and culture in this area.Skwirk http://www.skwirk.com/p c_s 56_u 415_t 1035_c 3982/what is colonisation /qld/sose history/first australians and the european arrivals/colonisation it is my understanding that colonisation by the British reinforced colonists views and that of the British Government. Religious beliefs, sovereign rule under her majesty the Queen, European land ownership and legal systems were amongst the impacts of colonisation on Māori customs. In December 1837 the British government decided in principle to intervene in New Zealand to ensure that colonisation was regulated and that land transactions that defrauded Māori were stopped. This led to the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. The Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand s founding document, was meant to be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Thomas Builds-The-Fire topic C. in imagining the reservation, Alexie says Survival = Anger x Imagination. Using The Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire, show how this formula works in the life of Thomas. How has he used his anger and his imagination to survive? The story of the Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire represents the author Sherman Alexie s famous quotation survival = anger x imagination very well. Thomas is charged for nothing in particular except standing up and speaking out. He did it before, but agreed to remain silent, and so charges were dropped: A quiet Indian man is the kind that sticks around. But his anger grew, and after many years of complete silence, Builds the Fire reached his tipping point and began to speak up again. To be stopped, he had to be arrested; to be convicted, his words had to be twisted by law into crime. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Indians who came to hear his trial weep as he speaks of the slaughter of 800 beautiful ponies. They are made proud as he tells of a single pony s rebellion. Even in this Alexie s equation is evident: the anger, sadness, and resentment over injustice is poured into emotional fuel, which when harnessed by Builds the Fire s stories becomes a reason to stand straighter. In the midst of hardship inspiration has to be found in order make it through. Thomas transforms his rigged trial into a platform to speak out from, he tells the stories he and his people need to survive. He brings attention back again to the Native plight. The golf course being named after Qualchan isn t just another misdeed, it s a sign that even the Natives are losing sight of what they NEED to be proud of and to remember. Thomas survives what is thrown at him (the unfair arrest, the rigged trial, the eventual biased conviction) because he has to, his imagination and anger over Native memory losses of tradition pushes his actions, he prods his ... World War Two was practically over, but Japan and the United States weren t getting along due to Japan bombing Pearl Harbor. The President of the United States (Truman) and U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill Issued the Potsdam Declaration which was the declaration that was put on the table for Japan after Germany had surrendered. Earlier in the war we had been putting together atomic weapons in case the war was getting out of hand. Since Japan wouldn t surrender after the Potsdam we dropped the 1st bomb. Japan had still not surrendered so we dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. There was a combined total of casualties after the 1st bomb of 140,000. The second bomb totaled out to 120,000 casualties. Dropping these bombs helped the United States win the war. In my Opinion, the decision to drop both bombs on Japan was the best alternative the United States had to remain stable and to hold military lives. There are many reasons the United States choose to drop the Atomic bomb. According to the White House press release the decision was pretty much made up after the Potsdam declaration, which gave Japan the opportunity to surrender, was refused by Japan so the United States was then in full force. Their leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum. If they do not now accept our terms they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this ... This type of writing held secret messages, and was hard to decode. The hieroglyphic system used in ancient Egypt had around 750 basic symbols, called glyphs. • 13. Ancient Greece And Modern Medieval Europe Many historians and scientists regard Europe as completely devoid of interest in the history of science. Contemptuously, medieval Europe is most often referred to as the Dark Ages, the epithet clearly illustrating the struggles of the time period and disdain for this part of history. The modern perception of medieval society is overwhelmingly dominated by a skewed interpretation of a barbaric, war torn civilization barely surviving through suffrage of plague and poverty that stifled nearly every aspect of development. Spanning from 500 to 1400 AD medieval Europe stands as a pale, superstitious shadow of the Greek and Roman ages of reason and high philosophy. Undoubtedly, the golden era of prosperity that preceded this time is much of the reason why Europe struggled for many years after its collapse, and additionally, why many historians view it as such an unimpressive time period. Possibly one of the most popularly known time periods in all of history, the Roman Empire established itself with a long list of progressive accomplishments in just about every aspect of its society. A culmination of Ancient Greece and the Hellenistic period, the Roman Empire s innovatory nature fostered continuously advancing developments, especially in the sciences. The goal of both researchers is to narrow the academic gap between white and black students. Both authors attribute the gap between the academic scores of black and white students from opposite sides of racial identity. As Dr. Beverly Daniels Tatum, President of Spelman College and clinical psychologist has written an article entitled Why are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? Her approach is from the perspective of the student and how they perceive their role and upper limits while maintaining their place in their peer group s expectations of their race. Dr. Diane Ravitch, a research professor of education at New York University, has written an article entitled The Facts about the Achievement Gap. Her approach is from the perspective of how schools and society implicitly or explicitly cast students into achievement tracks based on their race. Both approach the same idea about racial identity, but they have different solutions, such as peer groups, the school board, and who is right about the solution. First, Tatum suggests ... Digital And Technology And Copyright Technology and Copyright Introduction Digital and networking technology have vastly reshaped the way the world acquires and uses knowledge; by increasing the amount of creative content that is available to everyone worldwide and the variety of sources from which an individual can choose to acquire that data. This content is often created by many individuals collaborating to form large groups of people who all contribute creative content. Intellectual property (IP) is the content that is created by either an individual or a group of individuals. The distribution of free content, software, and ideas has successfully limited many societies dependency for established channels of distribution and production [cyberethics]. More and more however as the internet becomes a digitally real the ability to go to the internet and escape the established channels of distribution has become increasingly difficult, concerns over the legal issues with the way some, or at times most, of the ways material is acquired. Some experts believe that intellectual property laws have stifled the access to many of these works, and in doing so have decreased the rate at which the creative content can expand, grow, and progress. Over the past fifteen years, main season attendance at opera performances fluctuated between 3 and 4 million, compared to eight to eleven million for Broadway shows and 25 to 30 million for symphony orchestras. Some opera managers speculated that audience exhaustion with repetitive repertoire had contributed to a decline in attendance. Others attributed the lack of interest to poor awareness of individual opera singers. Nevertheless, the ethical implications and the outcomes of Duran s actions highlight some potential intrinsic flaws that are present in the current state of affairs that govern businesses and how they impact the general well being of society. There is no negating that the economic activist, who in 2009 went into hiding to avoid the repercussions of his actions, has broken the law and in no way, can ethical theories such as Kantian deontology, shareholder and stakeholder views condone his actions. However, I must stipulate that whilst he may be acting unethically in relation to deontology, Duran may be acting in an ethical manner when we consider other theories. Nonetheless, before I attempt to prove the ethical intentions of Duran, I must also present other theories that, if following their discourse, provide significant critique and defamation of Duran s actions. • 22. Masculinity And Femininity Although complementary, the stories told about masculinity and femininity have very different impacts on those that feel pressured to conform to them, or are subject to experience their effects by others who do. A particularly insidious source of these stories comes from advertisements, as noted by Jean Kilbourne in Killing Us Softly 4 (2010). She quotes a statement by the editor in chief of an advertising magazine that only 8% of an ad s message is received by the conscious mind. The rest is worked and reworked deep within the recesses of the brain . The internalization of the messages from these advertisements unwittingly teaches men and women what is expected of them, and what is desirable. For women, it is taught that femininity requires flawless beauty, with unnaturally smooth skin (preferably light toned), shiny hair, dimple free curves cinched by a tiny waist, and a graceful demeanor. It is taught that women must pursue this image, whether it be through the purchase of cosmetics or surgical procedures, or diet products and exercise programs. These advertisements often depict women as having elegance and sensuality in their passiveness lounging around as they enjoy beauty products or indulgent foods, or draped upon powerful men. They must act as though they enjoy being objectified; welcoming men s advances, even in violent or dangerous situations. In contrast, men in advertisements are encouraged to model masculinity through violence, dismissal of emotions in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is with this very essence my quest to look for answers and investigate about two very distinct yet similar groups. The groups I examine throughout this paper are Africans and African Americans. What I seek to find out is why two very distinct yet similar groups of people fail to see eye to eye, judging from the fact that Africans and African Americans look alike, originated from Africa and their histories and culture somehow intertwine with each other. The main question here really is: what are the factors that hinder the relationship between Africans and African American people. Religious Significance The Pantheon And The Dome Of The Rock Kathryn Shim November 24, 2015 Professor Moser TA Ginny Reynolds, Wednesday 5pm The Religious Significance the Pantheon and the Dome of the Rock Convey Architecture comes with many significant meanings, including religious significance. The Pantheon, built from 118 to 125 CE in Rome, Italy, was a temple made to worship the Roman gods and goddesses. This temple is one of the most important buildings both in history and architecture, influencing many other monuments with its form, such as The Dome of the Rock. The Dome of the Rock, built from 687 to 692 CE, was the first great Islamic building. Located in Jerusalem, it is a shrine still very significant to many religions, such as Judaism and Christianity, today. This thirst is surrounded with passionate greed (nandiragasahagata), which comes in three forms: namely: thirst for sense pleasures (kama tanha), which is a craving for things or objects that provide us with pleasant feelings, thirst for existence and becoming (bhaa tanha), which is a craving to be someone or something with a purpose or meaning that actually has an impact on others, a craving to achieve ones goals, and lastly, thirst for non existence (self annihilation, vibhavatanha), which is a craving to be detached or separated from things that cause pain or suffering (What the Buddha taught, 29). The origin of Dukkha also comprises of other forms of cravings. This thirst is not only limited to desiring or attaching ourselves to worldly things such as riches and fame but also desiring and attaching ourselves to notions, philosophies, views, sentiments, concepts, and beliefs (dhamma tanha) (What the Buddha taught, 29). According to the Buddha, all the bad and unjust issues going on in the world at large, ranging from family matters to huge wars, which destroy countries, is as a result of greed and selfish thirst. This claim is very true especially in our world today. For example, the Second World War began because of Adolf Hitler s greed. Also, we see many families, especially in the western parts of Africa divided as a result of land issues. Each family member wants the bigger portion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Tampa Museum Of Art For this project, I chose the Tampa Museum of Art. My daughter Annabelle, who is eleven, accompanied me. She is an aspiring young artist who loves to paint and assemble collages. This paper will describe our trip, the museum s activities, and what was on exhibit. After which, I will choose two works of art and preform an analysis on them. I will employ the formal elements and the principles of design to engage the first piece, The Great Journey . With my second choice A Group of Cubans who left Manzanillo are Rescued at Sea , I will discuss how applying an alternative contextual analysis would help in understanding the meaning behind the painting more. The museum was celebrating Family Day as well as Hispanic Heritage Month, so Annabelle and I were able to enjoy all the special activities that were being held. She was able to partake in all the art making activities e.g. drawing and painting different objects with different media. After Annabelle was finished, we watched the Sones de Mexico, a group of Hispanic children from all around the bay area. The group of dancers performed traditional dances from all over the different regions of Mexico. The dances were honestly astounding and beautiful to watch. All the time and effort that those young children put in, just to learn the dances is remarkable. Furthermore, the fact that they are working so diligently to keep their heritage alive and thriving here in the US is inspiring. My daughter and I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Bail Laws ( Nsw ) Bail laws (NSW) Bail has always been part of the common law system. In NSW, they have based their concept from the Statue of Westminster I (1275), where there are different categories that separates who are to be bailed or refused bail, which had become part of the Bail Act 1978 (NSW) and was enforced from March 1980. Bail Act 2013 (NSW) is the only other law that replaced Bail Act 1978 (NSW), but was amended by Bail Amendment Act 2014 (NSW), which is the final replacement coming into full effect in 28th January 2015. In Section 4 of the Bail Act 1978, it states that authorisation to be at liberty under this Act, instead of in custody . This is otherwise known as bail, the act of permitting a person to a brief period of freedom who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the prosecution can provide sufficient reasoning of why bail cannot be granted, the assumption of bail can be revoked. Serious drug related offences can also disprove the presumption for bail and (likewise towards aggressive offences) the accused must reason why bail should be permitted. Issue and effect on individuals and society Prior to 28th January 2015, bail laws posed significant loopholes in the system and are deemed to be ineffective to achieve justice. Accused offenders may get away with bail based with evidence in the case if it does not seem to pose a threat to the community. The problem persists within the conditions set for their bail, as responsibility lies upon the magistrate or police to impose appropriate conditions. However, though conditions do vary, it possesses a significant risk if the conditions enforced were not strict enough, opening vulnerabilities for the accused to commit another crime, slipping through their enforced conditions. Yet not enough has been done to alert the community of this flaw, which thus continued to believe that the criminal law system is protecting them. Effects are potentially dangerous, as individuals would face the growing rate of criminal activity and with limited policing resources, not everyone ensured to be protected in an unsafe suburban environment. If this issue continued to remain unresolved in the long term, it would slowly corrupt society values, with more individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Role of Women in Doyle´s A Scandal in Bohemia Essay Doyle s A Scandal in Bohemia follows the story of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes on his adventures to retrieve a disgraceful photograph of Irene Adler and the King of Bohemia. The king, now engaged to a different woman, is fearful that Adler may use the photo as blackmail. In A Scandal in Bohemia, the apparent role of women is minuscule. The only female emphasis is on one woman, who is the object of Holmes detective inquiries. In A Scandal in Bohemia, society places women at a subordinate level, pushing them to the background and therefore never allowing the reader to fully understand their character. Watson describes women as second class citizens at the start of the story without directly saying so. Watson comments: My own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The King also fears the revelation of the scandalous photograph simply because it lies in the hands of a woman. His interests to dominate this woman, Irene Adler, are evident in the callous actions the King directs towards her. The King states, Five attempts have been made. Twice burglars in my pay ransacked her house. Once we diverted her luggage when she traveled. Twice she has been waylaid. There has been no result (218). This disdain and oblivion towards Adler s privacy leads one to reassess the King s motives. Is he actually interested in the photograph or do his actions focus solely on hurting Irene Adler? The King wants the upper hand on this beautiful, yet extremely intelligent woman. The King s attitude towards his future wife and his former lover, Irene Adler, fits into society s narrowly defined roles of women. In British Victorian society, women were the nurtures and the protectors of the children, and what some deemed as only monetarily valuable items. This female instinct to nurture is one stereotype that is greatly reflected in the personality of Irene Adler. Adler s willingness to help is a quality that Watson, as well as other men in society, felt all women should possess. Watson acknowledges this nurturing tendency when he says, but I know that I never felt more heartily ashamed of myself when I saw the beautiful creature against which I was conspiring, or the grace and kindliness with which she ... • 45. Oedipus Rex – The Women Essay Oedipus Rex The Women Charles Segal in Oedipus Tyrannus: Tragic Heroism and the Limits of Knowledge explains the protagonist s concern for Jocasta s burial in Sophocles Oedipus Rex: Oedipus turns from his utter desolation and abasement to something of his old air of command, albeit in a chastened and softened tone. He asks Creon to expel him from Thebes as quickly as he can and gives orders for Jocasta s burial (1446ff), a gesture of concern and responsibility characteristic of the Oedipus we saw in the opening scenes(73). Oedipus attitude toward Jocasta in death is it the same as in life? This essay will answer the previous question and many other questions regarding women in Oedipus Rex. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The critic Ehrenberg warns that it may lead to hubris (74 75). Throughout the drama Sophocles draws out an ongoing contrast between the godlike mastery of the king and the softer, more balanced and selfless characteristics of Jocasta, his wife. She is a foil to Oedipus. Shortly thereafter Creon, Jocasta s brother, is returning from the Delphic oracle with the fateful words of the god s command: He fell; and now the god s command is plain: /Punish his takers off, whoe er they be. Immediately Oedipus boldly launches a campaign to do what is best for his people and for himself: I also, as is meet, will lend my aid To avenge this wrong to Thebes and to the god. Not for some far off kinsman, but myself, Shall I expel this poison in the blood; For whoso slew that king might have a mind To strike me too with his assassin hand. Oedipus, in his public proclamation regarding punishment for the killer of King Laius, shows more lenient treatment toward the guilty party if he confesses his crime: I summon him to make clean shrift to me./And if he shrinks, let him reflect that thus /Confessing he shall scape the capital charge . Oedipus, in his cross examination of the holy man Teiresias, shows his mastery to be more human and less godlike: Monster! thy silence would incense a flint. /Will nothing loose thy tongue? Can nothing melt thee, /Or shake thy dogged taciturnity? The king is confronted with Teiresias

This novel was narrated by Amir, the protagonist, but was named in honor of Hassan, a secondary character, who was the kite runner . The Kite Runner introduces an inspiring character like Hassan, he is one of the bravest characters, the heart of Afghanistan, and is one of the most complex characters, but has an instinctual nature which makes him a simple character to understand. Hassan s purpose in the novel is to be the foil of Amir. Initially, the story came to be when Hosseini thought of giving Hassan an alter ego, and contrasting it to Hassan s purity and benevolence. Whereas Hassan knows exactly what he wants in life, the alter ego is troubled and wrenched with insecurities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hassan had it tougher than Amir at the very beginning, he was born into a difficult life by being raised by a Hazara servant. Which as a result, he learns that it is his duty to sacrifice himself for others. For instance, he wakes up every morning to get Amir ready for school while he is held back doing housework, and even tells Amir he is happy with what he has, although he clearly sees what he lacks himself. On other several different accounts he was taking advantage of his selflessness from being raped for the sake of keeping Amir s winning kite in tack, which he knew meant a great deal to him. Yardley reviews Hosseini s second book where it is about the story of these two women, which reaches its climax in an act of extraordinary generosity and self sacrifice (3) Hosseini adopted the theme of sacrifice in both of his novels, where a character voluntarily sacrifices something so dear to them, in Hassan s cases his innocence. By Hassan having the crucial trait of being selfless, it is the motor to all the event that foreshadow. Perhaps if Hassan was not as selfless, Amir and Assef would have not taken advantage of ... Vygotsky, Zone Of Proximal Development According to Vygotsky, zone of proximal development, or abbreviated as ZPD, is a learning concept that states a child cannot yet master alone even though they are close to having the necessary mental skills; they need guidance from a skilled partner to complete the task. This relates to his theory of general development because he believed social interaction plays an important role in the process of cognitive development and as stated above, ZPD requires human interaction to guide a child through what can be seen as a learning curve. With this project where a child has to do an easy puzzle (10 pieces or less) on their own versus a hard puzzle (50 pieces or more) with the help of an adult, Vygotsky would predict that the child will be able ... She also cheered on him when he connected the right piece. For the first puzzle, Joel completed it in just 5 seconds, so that rate of that is 1 piece per 1 second. Perhaps he had done that puzzle already because when Miss Angie showed it to Joel, he said this one again? . For the second puzzle, Joel completed it in 6 minutes (360 seconds), which is roughly 0.13 piece per second. During the easy puzzle, the child task behavior and child motivation were more frequent than the harder puzzle because with the harder puzzle, Joel was more distracted and not as focused as the first puzzle and the sheer number of pieces made the process even more daunting than it was for him. There was no adult motivation/task behaviors involved with the first puzzle, because it was so easy that Joel completed it too quick for any interaction between Miss Angie and himself.
