Mise-En-Scene In The Great Gatsby
I will be evaluating Lurhman s use of mise en scene and its success in reflecting the narrative and
emotions of the characters. I will be assessing two scenes from two movies (The Great Gatsby,
Romeo and Juliet). I believe that the Fish tank scene in Romeo and Juliet then the scene when
Nick meets Gatsby is another successful scene. In The Great Gatsby the mise en scene is used to
show off the romanceand magnificence of Jay Gatsby it is used to describe his personality and
economic status. In Romeo and Juliet the success comes from the symbolism of the water and the
use of camera position. Mise en scene is an expression used to describe the design aspects of a
theatre or filmproduction, which essentially means visual theme .

Sample Size Determination Of The Nairobi Mombasa Road...
3.5. Sample size determination (a)First responders in villages along black spots The total numbers
of people living at the villages along the Nairobi Mombasa road accident black spots within
Makueni County are estimated at 4631 as per the Provincial administrators in these areas. The
sample size will be worked out as (using the formula by Fisher et al, 1998): Formula n=z2pq d 2
Where: n= desired sample size (where population is greater than 10,000) Z = the standard normal
deviate set at 1.96 which corresponds to the 95 % confidence level. P= the proportion in the target
population estimates to have a particular characteristic (50%) q = 1.0 p d = degree of accuracy
desired, set at .05. Then the sample size is: n = (1.96) 2(.50) (.50) (.05)2 n=384 Correction formula
for a population below 10,000 nf = n 1+( n ) N Therefore nf = 384 1+ (384) 4631 nf (corrected
sample) = 354 (b)Persons experiencing road traffic injuries managed in referral hospitals along
Nairobi Mombasa road Estimated injured persons in a year are about 500. Then the sample size is:
n = (1.96) 2(.50) (.50) (.05)2 n=384 Correction formula for a population

Hcpro Relationship
TuMV HcPro interacts with A. thaliana homologue of CqCA (Pathosystem validation) Since the
HcPro CA interaction was established using the ZYMV C. quinoa pathosystem, we first
corroborate the possible interaction of HcPro with the A. thaliana homologue of CqCA
(AtCA1). Both ZYMV and TuMV HcPro (ZHC and TuHC) were transiently co expressed with
AtCA1 in N. benthamiana. ZYMV and TuMV HC Pro were fused with YFP (ZHC YFP and
TuHC YFP respectively) meanwhile AtCA1 was fused with CFP (AtCA1 CFP), proteins
localization was monitored by confocal microscopy. As shown in figure XXX AtCA1 CFP co

both ZYMV and TuMV HcPro and the A. thaliana homologue of CqCA. Therefore, to validate this

Detrimental Effects of the Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was, and continues to be, one of America s darkest moments, one that nearly tore
the nation apart. In order to stop the spread of communism in Europe and Asia, the United States
aided French imperialists and their reoccupation of Vietnam. At first, the U.S took a position of
neutrality to both countries, but by early 1947, they began fighting in support of France. This war,
lasting over 20 years, became the longest and most unpopular war in the 20th century. Overall, the
Vietnam War was detrimental to the United Statesbecause it caused a massive debt from the 1960s
to the 1990s, turned the American people against their government, and many troops were
neglected and despised upon their return.

They speculated that if one land in a region came under the influence of Communism, the
surrounding countries would follow in a domino like effect . (Small) So basically, once one country
turns to Communism, all the surrounding countries will follow until it has taken over completely.
This theory was used by U.S administrators during the Cold War to clarify and justify the need for
American intervention around the world. The idea had been in existence for quite some time,
but it was only clear what it really was when President Dwight D. Eisenhower put it into words in
1954, when referring to communism. In order for Vietnam to be free of a Communist
government, the United States decided to ally with France so the Vietminh could not gain more
power. Since the Americans were fresh out of fighting the Korean and Chinese Civil War, they
believed Communism could be spreading everywhere. Beginning in 1950, the United States
initially pledged $15 million dollars in aid of the French. This was the start of an American debt
that would damage the U.S economy for almost 30 years. The President of this time, Lyndon B.
Johnson, played down the United States role in Vietnam for two reasons. He believed that if
Americans felt that this war had to be fought in order to protect their country from Communism,
the public would demand a full scale, no holds barred war that could have led to Chinese and

The Screwtape Letter Analysis
I feel that C.S. Lewis s book, The Screwtape Letters, has taken a while to pull me in and get me
really interested in the book. I am intrigued by the first couple chapters, but those chapters do not
pull me in like some of the other chapters after those. The chapter that has pulled me in and really
got me interested to read on in the book is chapter four when Screwtape wants Wormwood to get
his human to misinterpret prayer. That is a deal breaker for me and got me really interested in
how they would attempt to get the human to misinterpret prayer. For example, they want him to
take prayer as if it was something he has to do as a Christian rather than something that he gets
or wants to do. Also, Screwtape tells Wormwood to try to twist his prayer around to where it
sounds like he is talking and looking inward to himself and not looking for God to answer or
respond to his prayers. In my opinion this book is very realistic because it provides us with
everyday challenges that we face in our own lives. Not only does it provide us with everyday
challenges that we face, but the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lewis s book, The Screwtape Letters, has shown me many challenges in which I go through in my
everyday life. These challenge levels range from simple stuff that can just happen at my house to
serious stuff outside in the world. One of the more simple challenges that this book provides insight
to, occurs in chapter three. That chapter focuses on something as simple as making your mother
upset. It goes into depth about how he can talk or act a certain way to make her upset with him. In
doing this, Screwtape and Wormwood want the human to become isolated from his mom. One of
the more serious challenges that is featured in the book is the continual evaluation of the Church
and Christianity. The chapters dealing with these issues are chapters one, two, four, and eight. All
of these chapters selected had issues or evaluations dealing with the Church or Christianity in a

Glasgow s Riverside Museum, home to over 3,000 items, has been hailed excellent , terrific and
fab by TripAdvisor reviewers (TripAdvisor, 2014). The museum offers visitors a unique
experience, where they can enjoy views of the River Clyde and the Tall Ship while they
immerse themselves in learning about Glasgow s historical past. The museum offers a unique
service experience, where the use of technology in order to enhance the visitor s experience is
prevalent. In certain areas, such as Main Street, a replica of a Glasgow street the late 19th and
early 20th century, the museum makes use of sound and lighting effects to create a particular
ambience, whereas in other areas there is a distinct lack thereof. A visit to the museum to
experience the service encounter first hand allows a critical evaluation of the encounter in terms
of the service design and physical setting. One useful way to look at service design is by use of
the servuction model (Hoffman and Bateson, 2010, p.9). The model illustrates the visible and
invisible factors which influence the customer s experience, and can aid organisations when
designing their service. The servuction model consists of visible and invisible elements, all which
have an effect on a customer s service experience, whether or not they are aware of it. One of the
visible elements identified in the servuction model is the contact personnel. These are the
organisation s front line employees who interact with visitors. On my visit to

The Climatic Conditions Of Nepal
Abstract Climatic conditions of Nepal vary from one place to another in accordance with the
geographical features. Climate change is changing our economy, health and communities in
diverse ways. The effects of rising temperatures are not only melting glaciers and sea ice, it s
also shifting precipitation patterns and setting animals on the move. The erratic rainfalls and
increase in frequency of extreme events such as floods and drought. Most of the big rivers of
Nepal are glacier fed and its main resources of water and hydroelectricity will be seriously affected
due to the ongoing changes in glacier reserves, snowfall and natural hazards. Nepal is largely a
mountainous country and current indications are that the mountain regions are more vulnerable
due to increased warming trends high variation in altitude with in very short distances. These
alarming trends not only make Nepal s major sectors of economy such as agriculture, tourism and
energy more vulnerable but also endanger the health, safety and wellbeing of Nepali people. The
main objective of the study is to identify the impacts of climatechange on the development
paradigm of the country in context of water resources. The prophecy behind this study is to add the
future development of Nepal regarding poverty alleviation, social equity, security and welfare. The
climate change trends and its impacts may differ in various local regions, it has affected Nepal with

Social Networking And Its Effect On The Internet
Research Question] Due to my interest in information technology and the quickly growing social
networking world on the internet, a combined topic would both be interesting for me to research,
but also a relevant investigation in today s world, with a connection to the beginning of the topic,
being MySpace (2003). One of the biggest debates about social networking is privacy, so I
decided to delve into the topic myself and created a research question of, To what extent does social
networking, beginning with MySpace(2003), affect the privacy of a United States citizen?
[Scope of Investigation] Throughout my investigation, privacy in social networking was examined
through three filters: government surveillance, privacy between users, and social networking s
effect on computer viruses. Each topic was broken up into three or four sub topics, to further detail
and describe the extent of privacy positives and negatives in social media. All three ideas were
researched extensively as well as examined through much personal experience and the experience of
others. Websites ranging from Kaspersky, covering internetsecurity, so Huffington Post, with
opinion polls, were used to gather data, along with multiple reports published by schools including
Elon University and Stanford University.
[Summary of Conclusion] Through the research done for this extended essay, I discovered that
social networking has a much larger impact on a United States citizen s privacy then I expected

Legalizing Marijuana In Canada Research Paper
Marijuana Here We Come! Should marijuana be legalized? Marijuana, also known as cannabis, is
currently an illegal recreational herb or substance in Canada with some exceptions to government
authorized dispensaries for medical use. Legalization means its legal but with regulations in place.
Cigarettes are legal but have many regulations on how they are made, how they are packaged, how
they are sold and even used. Legalization of marijuana ensures regulations are put in place for the
wellbeing of all Canadians. There are many benefits to legalizing marijuana such as making the
substance less accessible to minors, increase taxation revenues, and lowering criminal activity.
Marijuana should be legalized because it will help prevent minors from easily accessing marijuana.
Legalization places restrictions on who can purchase and use the marijuana through authorized
marijuana dispensaries. Authorized marijuana dispensaries makes it easier for non minors to access
marijuana taking away... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cost of production is higher, authorized marijuana dispensaries hold higher costs, and the
government adds taxes. As long as illegal sources can sell comparative products at lower prices,
there is still a market for illegally grown and sold marijuana. If there is still a market for illegal
marijuana then there is still sources available for minors to purchase marijuana, sales taxes not
be collected, and criminal activity still be conducted. The only way for all these benefits to fully
be beneficial is for the prices of legalized marijuana to be equal or less than the price of Marijuana
sold illegally. In conclusion, marijuana should be legalized because there are potential benefits
such as making the substance less accessible to minors, increase taxation revenues, and lowering
criminal activity, as long as the price is competitive with illegal

Literary Analysis Of Rome Fever, And Edith Wharton sRoman...
Roman Fever: W, A New Leaf: L Critical literary analysis can be used in many ways: simply to
understand a story s purpose, the story s characters, and many other aspects to understand a story
fully. Critical literary analysis can also be used to try to determine an opinion between two books
and their valueas a story. In the case between Roman Fever written by Edith Wharton and F. Scott
Fitzgeralds A New Leaf , Roman Fever is the superior story between the two. After in depth
analysis of both stories, Roman Fever deserves the higher ranking simply because of its literary
elements. Roman Fever written by Edith Wharton has a more complex plotstructure than A New
Leaf . The plot structure in a Roman Fever is more complex because it is not simply
chronological. The story does use a chronological structure to describe how long the two
characters have been sitting together, and to further the story, but there are mentions of the past
that divert from the chronological order. These glimpses into the past from the characters, Alida
Slade and Grace Ansley, add artistic unity to the story, meaning that these flashbacks cannot be
removed, otherwise the story would not be comprehendible. The purpose of Roman Fever is not
the plot but the characters and their relationship, and the change and develop of Mrs. Slade and
Mrs. Ansley. This alone rank Roman Fever above A New Leaf because A New Leaf relies
heavily on chronological plot structure and the plot to truly drive the story. The plot also ties in
heavily the stereotype of the pattern of three s. Julia rejects both Dick and Phil twice before
accepting them both on the third time. Many of the analysis questions for A New Leaf focus on
the plot rather than anything else, including two about Phil and Dick and plot, 4. What causes
Julia to reject Dick, twice? What in his behavior causes her rejections, and what in her character
causes them? 5. What is the function of Phil Hoffman in the plot? Why does Julia reject him, and
why does she finally marry him? The characters of Roman Fever are dynamic in a literary way and
are the main focus of the story. If the relationship between the two characters, and the characters
themselves, were not made

Essay about The Renaissance as a Distinct Period of Time
The Middle Ages was a time in history where everyone was faithful to religion as well as others.
Also, in the Middle Ages, people were encouraged to always try their best; they were encouraged
to strive for the highest achievement possible and to never give up. The Renaissance, however,
was more focused on becoming matured and finding a way to be successful at everything one
does. During this era, people strived to become all sided men, also known as; renaissancemen. This
means they are not only successful in one type of art but in all types of art, as well as math,
science, and literature. The Renaissance was a distinct period in time that was separated from the
Middle Agesand began a new era.
The writers and thinkers of the fifteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believed that the people of the Middle Ages used religion as an excuse to drink and gain
money and power (Document 5). The Middle Ages was a time where people were more conserved
with education and did not have the curiosities that fell upon those in the Renaissance.
Curiosity of the human body and deeper knowledge about art and literature became two popular
areas throughout the Renaissance. Leonardo daVinci drew beautiful pieces of art that depicted the
natural and realistic human body and it s internal muscle and bone structures. The drawings of the
human body by daVinci, show that he was not afraid to go the distance and have no limits as to
how far he will push himself to understand the human body (Document 6). Leonardo was a true
Renaissance man. In addition, another evidential person who leads a reader towards making the
inference that the Renaissance is a separate era from the Middle Ages, is Johannes Kepler. Johannes
Kepler was an astronomer from Germany that made an observation about people in the Middle
Ages that tend to follow and agree with everything the priests say. Johannes said that with the
distinct knowledge of the Renaissance, people now had their own education and had the power to
question what others said or thought (Document 7).
Education was always existent through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. However, the
education during the Renaissance was extremely different and more widely spread than the
education that was provided in

Erving Goffman Stage Theory
In this essay, I will be explaining Erving Goffman s social concept called dramaturgy, primarily
focusing on the element of stage theory. I will also incorporate Peter Borger s social
construction of reality within the essay as it also relates to stage theory. I will be describing
what these concepts mean it my own words, based off experiences in my own life, research that
I have done, as well as using the information that we gathered in class. Then we will be looking at
college students as a case study group, where we will go into greater detail to better explain the
stage theory concept and how the behavior of college students is significantly dependent upon
the stage and location they are in, as well as how they are impacted deeply by society. Some of
the information that I will be gathering will come from a non academic source, which gives a
brief descriptive summary of college students and why they make a perfect fit for this stage
theory example. Lastly will be an analysis process of the information that I gathered about the
stage theory. This process also includes a summary of an academic source that applies a variation
of stranger theory and social construction of reality to a similar case study.
The sociological concept called dramaturgy is very interesting and Erving Goffman s idea is worth
looking into on a deeper level to better understand it. I had previously heard about the stage theory
before this sociological theory class, but did not really have a grasp as

What American Ideal Sets Our Country Apart As Unique And...
What American ideal sets our country apart as unique and all its own, different from all other
countries in the world? The idea of true liberty, or freedom from oppression within society
(Oxford Dictionary), can be seen throughout American culture. This quality, however, has not
always been equally demonstrated to all groups of people. Ever since the founding of the
country, the African American community has strived for liberty and equality in society. After
being pushed down into the chains of slavery, they began to rise and fight for what was
rightfully theirs through the blood, sweat, and tears of many. The American ideal of liberty has
gradually expanded and provided new opportunities for the once enslaved community of African
Americans; this expansion has been the result of the lifelong efforts and struggles of members of
that community like Olaudah Equiano, Frederick Douglass, Mr. Ryder, W.E.B. DuBois, and
Booker T. Washington. Olaudah Equiano grew up as a free boy in Africa. In his narrative, he
defined liberty when describing his village as celebrating every great event... in public dances,
which [were] accompanied with songs and music suited to the occasion (Equiano 356). Before
Africans were enslaved, they were a free race in their own land. The native Africans understood
liberty as the ability to govern themselves and hold their livelihood in their own hands. This all
changed for Equiano when one day captors seized [him]... and ran off with [him] into the

A Musical Called The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz With An All...
In 1974, a musical called The Wiz opened in Baltimore at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre and
on Broadway in 1975. The Wiz was an urbanized retelling of L. Frank Baum s The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz with an all African American cast placed within the context of 1960 s and 1970 s
African American society. The musical kept the rural Kansas setting and agrarian Oz as well as
many of the other central plot devices from the novel. In 1978 Motown released a movie loosely
based on the musical which starred Diana Ross as Dorothy, Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow,
Nipsey Russell as the Tinman, and Ted Ross as the Cowardly Lion. The movie moved the story
from Kansas to Harlem and Oz to fantastical dystopian version of New York City.
The Wiz has several female characters that are central to the storyline: Aunt Em, Miss One the
Good Witch of the North, Evillene the WickedWitch of the West, Evamean the Wicked Witch of
the East, Glinda the Good Witch of the South, and Dorothy. All of them except for Dorothy are
representative of some form of the motherly family oriented place African American woman hold
in society. Dorothy represents a new type of female role for African American woman in society,
one that is independent and has choices about what role she wants to play in society. This paper
argues that Motown s production of The Wiz shows the creation of a new role for black women in
society, one independent from the motherly family oriented role society previously expected of
them.

The American Dream Meaning
What is the American Dream? This is a question that has bewildered and eluded many for
centuries. For some it may be a simple and easy answer consisting of just living your life to the
fullest extent. Others look at it more theoretically and want to narrow it down to a definition. The
American Dream as they call it was first conceived when the founding fathers of America wrote the
Declaration of Independence in the 1700 s. IT was later made into an actual phrase in 1931 when
James Truslow Adams, author of the book Epic of America , coined the phrase in this same book,
which detailed his version of the American dreamvery explicitly.
Many authors are fond of touching up on the subject of the American Dream. One such person

Queer Representation Of All Ages Media Essay
Queer Representation in All Ages Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the
90s and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in
the media I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it
was usually in hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday)
or as something negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school).
This reflected exactly how homosexualitywas portrayed in media at the time. Queercharacters and
homosexuality were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and
affectations, or at worst, something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly
watches reads comics, watches Saturday morning cartoons and plays video games, it is so
exciting to discover the lengths of progress that has been made in queer representation in all ages
media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all ages media
and highlight the impact of media representation. Before celebrating the strides of queer
representation in all ages media, it is important to look back at queer representation in the past. The
late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly researched the evolution of queer representation in
cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet. In both the book and the documentary based of
the book, Russo details the

Stereotypes about Homelessness in America in Dumpster...
Stereotypes about Homelessness in America in Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner
Lars Eighner s short essay, Dumpster Diving, reveals the stereotypes about homelessness in
America. In order to confirm these known stereotypes about American culture, Eighner includes
autobiographical accounts of the economically inferior class, as well as revealing his elitist rules
that governs the life of a homeless person. According to Eighner, homeless people fall into the
following categories, can scroungers , Dumpster divers , and scavengers. (Eighner, 1993). In
addition, Eighner s blatant demonstration of his superiority to the people he scavenges from reveals
his true character of snobbery. Although Eighner reveals that his chosen lifestyle... Show more

He further proports that can scroungers blatantly tear up the dumpsters and disregard perfectly good
items for other homeless people. Eighner sees can scroungers at the bottom of his elitist list because
of the obtrusiveness to the practice of common scavengers. Furthermore, Eigher declares, a true
scavenger hates to see good stuff go to waste, and what he cannot use he leaves in good condition in
plain sight. Eighner as a homeless person uncovers his working within tradition of an archeologist.
Similar to the archeologist, Eighner dubiously obtains information about those he scavenges from.
Eighner feels that the refuge of the common consumer is more valuable then what people originally
think. Eighner fervently states, I avoid trying to draw conclusions about the people who dump in
the Dumpsters I frequent, when in fact he constantly juxtaposes his position to the affluent people.
For instance, Eigher frequents affluent college dorms because of the extreme wastefulness the
college student s exhibit. He further passes judgment begrudgingly stating, ..it s Daddy s money.
(Eighner, 1993) Moreover, it is the use of these rhetorical strategies that the author implements to
deliberately expose his superiority over college students because of his swiftness in retrieving
private information. Eighner s pretension even expands into academia where he finds; college
students often discard their papers. I am horrified

Dimethylsulfoxide Essay
Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) (CAS:67 68 5) is studied as an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
(MAO) (EC 1.4.3.4) extracted from whole and five different parts of rat brain ,namely; basal
ganglia , frontal cortex, cerebellum, medulla oblongata and pons in vitro.
The present study was conducted to investigate the inhibitory effect of DMSO on MAO A and B
isoenzymes. The study aimed to determine the type of inhibition and which part is mostly affected.
The results indicated that DMSO inhibited MAO A of pons and cerebellum and MAO B of basal
ganglia more than MAO iso enzymes of other brain parts. The inhibition was of the competitive
type. It was also found that the enzyme inhibitor dissociation constants (Ki) and the affinity
constants (Ki/Km) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about No Country for Old Men
I have always wanted to see this movie, but never had the time to get around to it. There was so
much hype going around about it. When I first heard about the movie coming to theaters, it did
not sound like a movie I would like. However, when the word got around to me, I knew I just had
to check it out. I must say that I am glad I sat down and watched it in its entirety. My first opinion
was totally wrong. After watching the movie, I now understand the buzz that followed it. It was
a classic story of a man who comes across a treasure and believes that it just must have been his
lucky day. However, the conflict arises because he is not the only one in search of the treasure.
This starts off a violent and bloody trail of a suspenseful cat... Show more content on

Llewelyn was not an ordinary guy who could be easily manipulated. He was no punk at all;
when push came to shove, he was ready to shove back. I have always liked suspense thrillers like
this movie. The ultimate suspense comes at the end where a massive shootout happens at the
motel where Llewelyn is at, and is killed. Also you know that Anton is still on the loose, and still
does not have the treasure he seeks which is now with the mob. The movie ends as a cliffhanger
when you see Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) telling his wife about the two dreams he
had the night before. Both dreams are about his father who has already passed. Unable to
remember what the first dream was about, he goes on to explain the second. In the second
dream, he describes his dad riding on pass him on horseback as if he did not know his own son. He
goes on to say that his dad is going to a place to make a fire to stay by in the cold and dark world.
My interpretation of the dream is that the cold and dark place represents death, but the light
from the fire represents life. The fire is a symbol for the sheriff s life and his father being beside
it means he is always with his son. After he finishes telling his wife, the movies just goes off. I
really enjoyed watching No Country for Old Men. It followed all the reviews I received from my
family and peers. Out of the entire movie, I only disliked how the movie ended

Persuasive Essay On Manus Island
According to settlement services international, Australia accepted 17,555 refugees in total in the
2015 2016 period. Although these people were simply entering Australia to flee prosecution in the
country from which they departed, many still saw it as a compromise to safety. This is not without
reason though; most of us will remember the Sydney siege in late 2014, in which a gunman held 18
people hostage inside a Lindt cafe, or the Brighton siege just earlier this year in which a gunman
killed a receptionist at an apartment complex and took another woman hostage. There is no doubt
about it: national security, among other important things, is paramount. But this does not justify the
current state of the recently closed Manus island, or the atrocities... Show more content on

In 2001, an offshore immigration centre was established on Manus Island as part of the Howard
Government s Pacific Solution, which aimed to respond to the rising number of boat arrivals.
This solution, which was only meant to serve temporarily, saw unauthorised vessels being
intercepted in the Pacific Ocean, usually by the Australian navy. The people on board the boat
would be transferred to offshore processing centres on Manus and Nauru island. These centres
were closed in 2008, but reopened in November, 2012 following a surge in asylum seekers
arriving by boat. The processing centres, as they were called, were ironic in name and problematic
in nature. Considered by many news outlets as the Guantanamo Bay of Australia, these centres
accommodated detainees in poor living conditions, and lacked in many important areas. In his
article from published in The Sydney Morning Herald Nauru and Manus Island are Australia s
Guantanamo Bay , David Isaacs compared Australia s centres with America s in four aspects lack of
due process for imprisoning people there, lack of accountability (limited information, no
transparency), indefinite imprisonment without due process (seemingly arbitrary legal processing,
lack of clear end point to imprisonment) and severe physical and mental maltreatment. Ultimately,
these centres gave a reason for all Australians to be ashamed in our government. Of course,

Essay On Civil War In The Middle East
Many people have died for the United States. They died for freedom, liberty, and justice. Most
American soldiers who died in the past 15 years, died in the Middle East. To reduce the death toll
the United States should not involve themselves in the Middle East for three reasons. First, the
United States risks the lives of soldiers and civilians in the Middle East. Moreover, the United States
can be targeted by terrorists from the Middle East. In addition, the United States do not have very
strong relationships in the Middle East.
In the first place, most conflicts in the Middle East have caused the United States to intervene. This
puts many American soldiers and Middle Eastern civilians in danger.
Furthermore, in the Middle East, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people may think the United States possess the strongest weapons in the world. Carl Bildt
of the Washington Post, wrote an article relating to Donald Trump s foreign policy and he
mentioned, Iran has a ballistic missile program that is rightly seen as threatening by its neighbors.
But it is hardly alone in this. Israel s ballistic missile arsenal is likely to be far more sophisticated.
And though this fact is little discussed, Saudi Arabia has acquired Chinese ballistic missiles with
regional reach (Bildt). From the quote, one can assume the Middle Eastern countries can wreak
havoc on their neighbors. If the countries used them it would result in many more casualties of
soldiers and civilians. That event would have the potential of starting a third World War.
Involvement of the United States in the Middle East has caused several terrorist attacks not only in
the United States but, all around the world. Paradoxically, with American involvement in the
Middle East, terrorism continues.
Likewise the United States has spent billions of dollars fighting terrorism. Dr. Emile Nakhleh
wrote an article regarding diplomatic relations with Iran and at one point he said, America has
spent billions of dollars fighting al Qaeda and its affiliated groups and more recently the Islamic
State (ISIS or IS) with little to show for it (Nakhleh). This quote shows the United States and its

was pursuing his college life with nothing to propel him forward, when out of the blue an
overwhelming love appears. It would only be fair that he was given some time to inhale the
emotional roller coaster we experienced on our first date. In a short amount of time, the

Acient and Medieval Western Civilization
Ancient Medieval Western Civilization At the point when Alexander the Great died in Babylon
on June 11 323 BC, few could have known the prospects for the Macedonians and the Greeks. In

Leonidas had prepared his body. Largely on account of his instruction, Alexander showed both an
unfathomable physical strength and educated virtuoso. Those qualities, consolidated with right on
time battles against northern tribes and at the skirmish of Chaeronea, made the youthful ruler more
than primed to accept power. For the next eleven years Alexander continued his father plan to

Satan as a Hero Essay
John Milton s Paradise Lost is an epic poem that describes the fall of Satan and the expulsion of
Adam and Eve from Paradise. Satan is the protagonist of Paradise Lost and has several
characteristics in which readers may identify with him. Throughout the poem, Satan is not only a
tragic hero but also the key character that drives the plot and portrays many flawed human
qualities. As an angel fallen from the high esteem of God and a possessor of hubris that leads to
his downfall, he represents a tragic herobut also a character in which readers may identify with.

Satan is so high in his own esteem; he cannot bear to be a servant and must be a leader, as he says
in Book I, Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heav n (line 263). Satan is indeed Hurled headlong
flaming from th ethereal sky (Book I, line 45) and into Hell where he will live in fire. But as a
leader, and a true protagonist, Satan chooses to accept his situation and rise as a hero for the
pack of fallen angels he has led from Heaven. Even if God is his enemy, at least he is not serving
anyone. He possesses his own heaven now, though not joyful and happy as the heaven he was
just expelled from, Farewell happy fields/Where joy for ever dwells: hail horrors, hail/Infernal

qualities are apparent, though, when he tells his followers in Book I, To do aught good never

Matthew 5-11 Vs Roman 12
Comparison between Roman 12 and Matthew 5 7
God created a perfect world with the supreme ruler, the people. He created us by clay and his
breath, so we are part of God, just different forms, the humanities are living in God. Therefore, we
should love our neighbor and our enemy as yourself because they are part of God so when you love
them, you are loving God. That is the basic idea of Christianity which was mentioned in both bible
Roman chapter 12 and Matthew 5 7.
According to bible Matthew chapter 5 43 44, you heard that was said Love your neighbor and

Provide things honest in the sight of all men. that never repay evil for evil because people are part
of God and even though they are under control of evil, God still love them and want to help them
get out of it. We are the son of God who love God and believe and him, we have the glory of Holy
Spirit so we need to be smart and win the evil. Evil just wants us to disobey with God and we
need to follow what God teach us to against the evil. Insteading of treating evil with evil, you
should overcome it with good. Which mean we can help people who are evil get out of bad
things by treating them with good things. God will see what you did and give you credit for it.
We are the son of God so don t let him disappointed about us. Moreover, Matthew (5:38 42) also

an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if
anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to

the one who wants to borrow from you. People in life teach you to repay whatever they did to

if they asked you to do something do it twice. God will give you back

The City Of Ember Doon A Dynamic Character
After reading The City Of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, I have learned that (Doon) is a dynamic
character. At the beginning of the book, the character is (Confidant)eventually, the character
becomes (afraid), and (then Doon became enthusiastic). These character traits were observed
through Doons actions, dialogue, relationships, choices, and problems.
This character connects to the world alone because there are alot of people like Doon,I say that
because in Doons mind it was easy to fix the generator but it really isn t(Easier said than done).
I have learned that Doon is confident about getting out of Ember and fixing the generator
through his choices and this tells me alot about Doons personality and that Doon believes in
himself. The first example to show that Doon is confidant is he was happy that Lina traded jobs
and he got the pipe works as a job.One of the main reason why Doon wanted the pipe works as a
job mainly was confident he could fix the generator. The second example to show that Doon was
confidant is when he went to work the main thing that he thought about was the generator and also
most of the time all he tried just try to figure out how to fix the generator. Then the last example is
when at the end of the story he was 99.09 sure he could get out of Ember with the Instructions. ...

education and social mobility
I.D. # 20123656 Education and Social Mobility Students who attend traditional schools have a
greater opportunity for social mobility than students who attend non traditional schools in Jamaica.
Historically, due to our post colonial background, that of the plantation society, education was only
afforded to the white, upper class individuals. In order to establish and reinforce a hierarchy of
power and ownership, wealthy capitalists ensured first rate education for their children, while
actively excluding members of the lower classes from this luxury. Due to the caste system, students

Even though some students may excel in their examinations, due to where they reside, they are

facilities, that are available at traditional schools, and as such greatly disadvantage from the start
of their education, and as such there is social inequality. This is supported from an article from the
Jamaican Gleaner, by Michael Waul, noting that access to tertiary education is a difficult option for
the poor. As such, poverty prevents economic freedom and choice, and so despite ones willingness,
this circumvents many realities of their experience, where the poor is held in the vicious cycle of
continuous poverty, and as such at a great disadvantage for social mobility for those students from
non traditional schools which are mostly individuals from the lower socioeconomic background.
Another element which affects the social mobility of students from traditional school versus
students from non traditional schools is that of the neo Marxist reproduction theory, which involves
what is known as tracking . This involves the assignment of students according to class and basic

choice and the normal rotation. Nevertheless, maybe we should look deeper. Looking ahead, if

If the puck is in our end, having him skate to the bench extends the power play and that is
unacceptable. However, it is also unacceptable to have him go into the play and have three
defensemen with no one certain as to what their responsibilities are. Keep it simple and do not
change the process. Go back to SECOND in our prior example and treat the defenseman as if he
is a forward. He will play a role customary for a forward until a play stoppage or the puck comes
out of our end and we change on the fly. As an example, since kids normally play better on the
same wing they shoot from, if the defenseman shoots right handed, think of him as a right wing.
I have also had success with a defenseman coming out of the box to play center if there were
three rotations. In our normal defensive system in the defensive zone, the center plays low and
helps the defense. There is a regular rotation between defense and center. Therefore, our
defensemen are comfortable playing center for this limited purpose in our end. This may not work
for you if you use a different defensive scheme. Either way, make sure all know what the plan is.
Again, we are not looking for three rotations, but we are planning in case it ends up that

Kanye West s New Album

For a self proclaimed God, this might not be the craziest statement to make. Of course, Ye s

commercially successful and critically acclaimed albums. Will the new release be the best album
of the life or just pretty good? Could it even be a rare misstep for Kanye? We will find out soon

In the meantime, let us take a look back at Kanye s storied musical career. The following list will

Assignment Title:
Operations Management Defined and in Context
Operations Management has evolved over many years and is now considered a critical function
in any business, as supported by J.R Meredith, operations is critical to success in today s
economy ( P35, Meredith 1992). Businesses need to have faster production, cheaper prices, better
quality products and fast delivery to be competitive. How an operations manager manages the
production of goods or services effects how competitive the offering and how successful the
business will then go on to be. In this assignment I am going to use Nestle and Heathrow airport as
examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An operations manager that has no strategy or tactics to be the most effective and efficient they
can be, will just fail in any line of business today. There has to be strategy and tactics applied to
the 5 basic Performance objectives (Slack et al, 2010 p40) as examples here we can compare
between Nestle and Heathrow. Both highly successful businesses in their industries and truly lead
the way in operations control and management. Both companies are likely to want to achieve
similar goals of customer satisfaction and to remain competitive in their arena, let s look at the
kind of things that they do to achieve their performance objectives based around Slacks ideas.
First of all let s look at the process for both businesses on a simple scale as I see it.
So what is involved at each stage and how does the operations manager ensure that the objectives of
the business are being met.
Quality Wanting to get things right for the customer, no errors.
Heathrow need to ensure that passengers have a smooth run from arrival to departure but also then
that the airplanes are able to run on time and limit delays. Buses run from the car parks regularly to
get passengers transported easily to the terminal where they will check in, go through passport

Direct Consumer Pharmaceutical Advertising ( Dtcpa )
Direct to consumer pharmaceutical advertising (DTCPA), defined as an effort (usually via
popular media) made by a pharmaceutical company to promote ... prescription products directly
to patients, is a common practice and an important issue that impacts the health of U.S. citizens,
the prices of prescription drugs and health care, and doctor patient relationships (Ventola). This
paper will discuss the historical and political lens of DTCPA: how and why changes to DTCPA
were made in the past, how current politics suggests a possible change to decrease or limit future
DTCPA could be accomplished, and specific regulatory aspects that require more attention. This
is important because in order to propose reasonable changes, we need to understand which
would likely succeed in the near future and which are most needed. First of all, understanding
the significant roles of culture and the political groups in changing DTCPA s history can help us
understand how and why future changes might be accomplished. Culture has been a driving
force throughout DTCPA s history. Julie Donohue, who is qualified to discuss this because she
earned PhD in health policy from Harvard University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in
pharmaceutical policy research at Harvard Medical School, presented an exhaustive history of
U.S. DTCPA in The Milbank Quarterly ( Julie ). The 1906 Pure Food and Drugs Act, operating
under the Progressive Era s cultural belief in consumers sacred right to self

Summary Of War Of The Rats
War of the Rats The Battle of Stalingrad, perhaps the single most critical and certainly one of the
bloodiest battles of World War II, is a great setting for a historical fiction story. His story centers
on a duel to the death between two men: Chief Master Sgt. Vasily Zaitsev, sniper, one of the best
of the Russian army, and a German SS colonel named Heinz Thorvald, the Nazis greatest
marksman. When Russian snipers led by Zaitsev begin to take a demoralizing toll of German
troops, picking them off like hunters shooting bears, the high command in Berlin dispatches
Thorvald to the battlefield with orders to accomplish a single task: kill Zaitsev. A deadly contest
ensues, with Robbins skillfully building up each of his protagonists as so deadly in their
murderous crafts as to make them feared as a person and well liked as a reader. It is not David
versus Goliath, but Hercules versus Zeus, the manly conflict of two equally matched and equally
remorseless adversaries. The story moreover is based, Robbins writes in the introduction, on two
real historical figures, though it is unclear whether the real Zaitsev and Thorvald engaged in the
kind of duel described in War of the Rats. Robbins opens with a German lieutenant named
Hofstetter who makes the mistake of tilting his head back to drink from a canteen and is dropped
by a single shot from a distant rifle. We, then, meet his killer, the Russian Zaitsev, who, before
World War II, was a hunter on the Siberian taiga, instructed

The Light Of Burning Wood And Sulfur And The Smoke
The air smells of burning wood and sulfur and the smoke around me is making it difficult to
figure out the particulars of my surroundings. I m in the foyer of my home, but there is no one
else around. The smoke is getting thicker now, causing my eyes to water. Breathing in, I begin to
choke uncontrollably. Covering my mouth while still coughing, fear takes over my body. I
scramble to my feet in a panic as I find a wall and begin to follow it, hoping it will lead me to an
opening. Moving along the wall, I bump into a table and fall to the ground, choking even more.
Struggling to sit up, I see the silhouette of someone coming towards me. Black spots fill my vision
as I sink lower and lower to the ground. Wheezing and struggling to stay... Show more content on

I found sites that recommended everything from dream catchers to professional help, so I finally
got up the courage to talk to my birth parents about it. When I was eleven, they took me to a
doctor who prescribed medicine that would supposedly help me relax and sleep better. It didn t
work. Within the span of two years I had visited four doctors, including psychiatrists, that each
gave me a new type of medicine to help. None of their methods worked so one day I straightened
my shoulders, put a skip in my step and a smile on my face and told my parents that the
nightmares had stopped and that I was better. We celebrated with homemade chocolate sundaes
and Finding Nemo. That night, the nightmares persisted. The laptop that usually presided on the

People called her Mae but her full name is Tallulah Mae Adams, those letters plastered

Mona Lisa Research Paper
The renowned painting by Leonardo Di Vinci, The Mona Lisa otherwise known as La Joconde ,
was not always the most famous piece of artwork known to mankind. Surprisingly enough, the
very reason it became famous was the theft, the news coverage, and the myths behind it. The
Mona Lisa was stolen in plain sight, giving police plenty of eye witnesses, even so the painting
was never recovered until after the thief attempted selling the vanished artwork. Vincenzo
Peruggia, is now a legend and one of the most famous art thieves in the world for stealing the most
famous painting in our time, yet before he stole the painting he was simply an immigrant most
known for attacking a prostitute. Vincenzo Peruggia was an Italian immigrant living in Paris who s
one of most recent jobs was to create the framing of the Mona Lisa.. located in the esteemed Louvre.

incompetence shined more than others. Every monday the Louvre is closed to the public to be
cleaned and organized for the incoming visitors expected later in the week. Because the only
people that are supposed to be in the building are staff, the security level is decreased. In these

Bravery In The Vietnam War
Whether on scales large and small, bravery is presented everyday. The disregard of fear has
repeated and will repeat many times in history. An example of this is the Tank Man. This man
risked his welfare to stop a convoy of tanks by merely standing in their way. In the days prior,
innocent men and women were slain in cold blood by the state. The morale of the protesters had
fallen vastly due to the threat of death. As all faith was declining, this man singlehandedly stopped
a tank convoy. With this he resented the heart and spirit of the protesters. Even after 100s slain and
1000s wounded, they continued to detest the states constant push for taking control. With no hope,
one man stood up to just say he is tired or this abuse. This bravery... Show more content on

Writing Styles Of My Writing Style
Sometimes when I look at the writing styles of my peers, be it on social media, emails I can
sense a distinction between the different writing styles that are used. When I m writing whether it
be in an email, text or a lab report I try my best to write everything more formally and longhand,
which a lot of people tend to overlook in today s society.
The last thing I wrote was a letter that I had sent to my significant other through the mail. The
nuances of writing seem to be disappearing from today s society, the finer intricacies of the
English language will be lost in a generation or two, and cursive language is no longer being
taught in schools, with all the abbreviations being used a lot of writing feels less personal and more
mechanical.

A Lesson in Maturity from J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan Essay
J M. Barrie s Peter Pan is a poignant tale about the magic of childhood. The main character, Peter
Pan, is a magical boy who wishes never to fall into the banality of adulthood, but to have an
adventure every moment and remain forever young. The play details Peter s relationship with a
young girl, Wendy, who is on the cusp of young adulthood. Peter s gang, the Lost Boys, wish for a
mother to read them stories. Peter goes and retrieves Wendy to be their new mother. Their
adventures reveal much about the nature of childhood and Barrie s thoughts on the bittersweet
necessity of growing up.
In order for Barrie to get his message on the importance of growing up across to the audience, he
must first set himself up as an authority on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When one plays pretend as a child, anything is possible. Barrie has such a thorough understanding
of a child s mind that he creates a fantasy land that we all remember. In this manner, Barrie creates
credibility for his argument on the importance of putting away childish things at the appropriate
time.
Barrie expresses the core of his argument through the actions of the children and Peter himself.
Throughout the play, the reader observes many instances of the children playing grown up.
When Peter first brings Wendy to Never Land, we see Slightly, one of the Lost Boys, playing
doctor (69 70). This shows a fundamental need to grow up and find your purpose or profession.
In many of the different acts the reader also sees the children pretending to have a family. The
best example of this is in pages 98 118. The Lost Boys and Wendy s creation of a family reflects not
only the children s need for a family, but their need to grow up and create families of their own.
In this scene, one of the Lost Boys, Michael, states his wish to grow up when he says Wendy, I am
too big for a cradle (101). Even Peter, who claims he wants to always be a little boy and to have fun
reveals that he once wanted to return to reality as well (113). On page 110, Peter says that after

Comparing The French And The United States Political...
Comparison of the French and the United States Political Structures Marcy McNeal SnookPOLS
241 Summer 2014 Incomplete Introduction Political culture is one of the defector concepts of
contemporary social science. Theorists have not provided a persuasive picture of its casual role
whereas analysts have not been able to do without it in explaining experimental results. Therefore,
political culture can combine with the political structure to create or maintain regime form. Political
structures are defined as the formal or informal political procedures through which decisions are
made regarding the usage, production and distribution of resources in any given community.
Formal political structures through its organizations can control processes such as election of
leaders; parts and tasks of the executive and administration; organization of political representation
(through political parties); and the obligation and oversight of the state. Informal and communal
political structures, customs and rules can work within or together with the formal political
organizations. In development, democratic political structures are seen to deliver prospects for all
without discrimination (Scott Mcloughlin, 2014). Before a state can produce, it must realize the
social peace that in turn ensures peaceful coexistence of the citizens. That social peace has been
achieved in different nations through different structures. Some of the structures have been rooted
in business companies

Common Themes In The Sixth Sense And Spoon River Anthology
The movie The Sixth Sense and the book Spoon River Anthology delve into life and death through
different ways but share the same themes and ideas. The common themes and ideas in both are: do
not leave unfinished business, learn to face problems not run away from them or take the easy way
out and lastly, listen to other people because they want what is best for you.
The Sixth Sense and Spoon River Anthology share a common theme. The theme is finish what you
started so you have no regrets. In The Sixth Sense, Malcolm, the main character, finished what he
started even though he was dead. In the beginning, Malcolm, the doctor, gets shot by Vincent Grey
because Malcolm could not fix the problem that Vincent had; he could see dead people. The doctor

An example of this theme is found in The Sixth Sense when the doctor said the ghosts are not
trying to hurt you, they only want your help. The next time Cole saw a ghost he decided to help
her. While attending a funeral for a little girl, he encountered the her ghost and she offered him a
box. Previously, when Cole saw a ghost he would get frightened and run away from whatever
ghost that was attempting to communicate with him. This time Cole had confidence and was
not afraid of the little girl who gave him the box. Inside the box was video of the little girl who
died having a puppet show. The girl forgot to stop the camera so the video continued recording
and showed the mother giving the little girl some type of poison. If Cole did not have the
confidence to help the ghost, then no one would have known how the girl actually died. Because
of Cole facing his ability to see ghosts, he was able to help the little girl. In Spoon River, many
people had problems and choose to find an easy solution which caused more problems. For
example, Nancy Knapp had inherited a farm after a relative died and began having many problems
with the farm: sickness of the cattle, failing crops, and a lightning strike. The farm was mortgaged
which made the husband worried. Overwhelmed, Nancy set fire to the

The Two Native American Brothers In The Red Convertible
Published in 1984, The Red Convertible depicts the relationship of two Native American brothers.
Lyman and Henry s relationship one day seemed perpetual. Unfortunately, this long lasting
relationship would come to an end. The two brothers were once adventurous and very much
nonchalant teenage boys enjoying the never ending summer. The unconditional trust the two
brothers have with each other is greatly portrayed through the joint ownership of the Red
Convertible. Unfortunately, the return of older brother Henry from the war has permanently
changed him. Lyman is unable to cope with his indifferent brother, thus Lyman s actions
demonstrate how he greatly misses the bond and relationship the two used to have. Ultimately,

The perishing of Henery has led younger brother Lyman to have no other way of coping with it,
but to get rid of every memory regarding Henry. Lyman states, That picture. I never look at it
anymore. A few months ago, I don t know why, I got his picture out and tacked it on the wall...
All I know is I couldn t stay in the same room with that picture... We put the picture in a brown
bag, folded the bag over and over tightly, then put it way back in a closet (328). Lamentably, the
relationship Henry and Lyman sustained, died as Henry died too. This is greatly portrayed as
Lyman tries to demolish all memories involving Henry. The relationship that was once thought to
be enduring, came to an end. Unfortunately, Lyman was unable to retain the relationship he hoped
would come back following the arrival of Henry. Lyman came up with the conclusion that he will
never be able to regain the bond with Henry thus, he was unable to cope with the loss and decided
to abolish all memories associated with Henry.
Louise Erdrich s compelling short story, The Red Convertible thoroughly displays the relationship
of two Native American brothers; the story reveals how a close relationship which was at one time
unfathomable to think it would come to a finale, would one day deteriorate. The adventurous
memories that were once kept with great enthusiasm, were now destroyed as the war destroyed
Henry. Sadly, Lyman and Henry s once long lasting relationship died off as Henry did

  • 2. Mise-En-Scene In The Great Gatsby I will be evaluating Lurhman s use of mise en scene and its success in reflecting the narrative and emotions of the characters. I will be assessing two scenes from two movies (The Great Gatsby, Romeo and Juliet). I believe that the Fish tank scene in Romeo and Juliet then the scene when Nick meets Gatsby is another successful scene. In The Great Gatsby the mise en scene is used to show off the romanceand magnificence of Jay Gatsby it is used to describe his personality and economic status. In Romeo and Juliet the success comes from the symbolism of the water and the use of camera position. Sample size determination (a)First responders in villages along black spots The total numbers of people living at the villages along the Nairobi Mombasa road accident black spots within Makueni County are estimated at 4631 as per the Provincial administrators in these areas. The sample size will be worked out as (using the formula by Fisher et al, 1998): Formula n=z2pq d 2 Where: n= desired sample size (where population is greater than 10,000) Z = the standard normal deviate set at 1.96 which corresponds to the 95 % confidence level. P= the proportion in the target population estimates to have a particular characteristic (50%) q = 1.0 p d = degree of accuracy desired, set at .05. Then the sample size is: n = (1.96) 2(.50) (.50) (.05)2 n=384 Correction formula for a population below 10,000 nf = n 1+( n ) N Therefore nf = 384 1+ (384) 4631 nf (corrected sample) = 354 (b)Persons experiencing road traffic injuries managed in referral hospitals along Nairobi Mombasa road Estimated injured persons in a year are about 500. Hcpro Relationship TuMV HcPro interacts with A. thaliana homologue of CqCA (Pathosystem validation) Since the HcPro CA interaction was established using the ZYMV C. quinoa pathosystem, we first corroborate the possible interaction of HcPro with the A. thaliana homologue of CqCA (AtCA1). Both ZYMV and TuMV HcPro (ZHC and TuHC) were transiently co expressed with AtCA1 in N. benthamiana. ZYMV and TuMV HC Pro were fused with YFP (ZHC YFP and TuHC YFP respectively) meanwhile AtCA1 was fused with CFP (AtCA1 CFP), proteins localization was monitored by confocal microscopy. As shown in figure XXX AtCA1 CFP co localized with both ZHC YFP and TuHC YFP, displaying the relevance of a relationship between both ZYMV and TuMV HcPro and the A. thaliana homologue of CqCA. Therefore, to validate this link in the A. thaliana TuMV pathosystem, we conducted bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) assays to test the direct interaction between TuHC and AtCA1. The... • 6. Detrimental Effects of the Vietnam War The Vietnam War was, and continues to be, one of America s darkest moments, one that nearly tore the nation apart. In order to stop the spread of communism in Europe and Asia, the United States aided French imperialists and their reoccupation of Vietnam. At first, the U.S took a position of neutrality to both countries, but by early 1947, they began fighting in support of France. This war, lasting over 20 years, became the longest and most unpopular war in the 20th century. Overall, the Vietnam War was detrimental to the United Statesbecause it caused a massive debt from the 1960s to the 1990s, turned the American people against their government, and many troops were neglected and despised upon their return. According to Dictionary.com, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They speculated that if one land in a region came under the influence of Communism, the surrounding countries would follow in a domino like effect . (Small) So basically, once one country turns to Communism, all the surrounding countries will follow until it has taken over completely. This theory was used by U.S administrators during the Cold War to clarify and justify the need for American intervention around the world. The idea had been in existence for quite some time, but it was only clear what it really was when President Dwight D. Eisenhower put it into words in 1954, when referring to communism. In order for Vietnam to be free of a Communist government, the United States decided to ally with France so the Vietminh could not gain more power. Since the Americans were fresh out of fighting the Korean and Chinese Civil War, they believed Communism could be spreading everywhere. Beginning in 1950, the United States initially pledged $15 million dollars in aid of the French. This was the start of an American debt that would damage the U.S economy for almost 30 years. The President of this time, Lyndon B. Johnson, played down the United States role in Vietnam for two reasons. He believed that if Americans felt that this war had to be fought in order to protect their country from Communism, the public would demand a full scale, no holds barred war that could have led to Chinese and Russian ... • 7. The Screwtape Letter Analysis I feel that C.S. Lewis s book, The Screwtape Letters, has taken a while to pull me in and get me really interested in the book. I am intrigued by the first couple chapters, but those chapters do not pull me in like some of the other chapters after those. The chapter that has pulled me in and really got me interested to read on in the book is chapter four when Screwtape wants Wormwood to get his human to misinterpret prayer. That is a deal breaker for me and got me really interested in how they would attempt to get the human to misinterpret prayer. For example, they want him to take prayer as if it was something he has to do as a Christian rather than something that he gets or wants to do. Also, Screwtape tells Wormwood to try to twist his prayer around to where it sounds like he is talking and looking inward to himself and not looking for God to answer or respond to his prayers. In my opinion this book is very realistic because it provides us with everyday challenges that we face in our own lives. Not only does it provide us with everyday challenges that we face, but the... It goes into depth about how he can talk or act a certain way to make her upset with him. In doing this, Screwtape and Wormwood want the human to become isolated from his mom. One of the more serious challenges that is featured in the book is the continual evaluation of the Church and Christianity. • 8. Service Design And Physical Setting Glasgow s Riverside Museum, home to over 3,000 items, has been hailed excellent , terrific and fab by TripAdvisor reviewers (TripAdvisor, 2014). The museum offers visitors a unique experience, where they can enjoy views of the River Clyde and the Tall Ship while they immerse themselves in learning about Glasgow s historical past. The museum offers a unique service experience, where the use of technology in order to enhance the visitor s experience is prevalent. In certain areas, such as Main Street, a replica of a Glasgow street the late 19th and early 20th century, the museum makes use of sound and lighting effects to create a particular ambience, whereas in other areas there is a distinct lack thereof. A visit to the museum to experience the service encounter first hand allows a critical evaluation of the encounter in terms of the service design and physical setting. One useful way to look at service design is by use of the servuction model (Hoffman and Bateson, 2010, p.9). The model illustrates the visible and invisible factors which influence the customer s experience, and can aid organisations when designing their service. The servuction model consists of visible and invisible elements, all which have an effect on a customer s service experience, whether or not they are aware of it. One of the visible elements identified in the servuction model is the contact personnel. These are the organisation s front line employees who interact with visitors. On my visit to ... Social Networking And Its Effect On The Internet Research Question] Due to my interest in information technology and the quickly growing social networking world on the internet, a combined topic would both be interesting for me to research, but also a relevant investigation in today s world, with a connection to the beginning of the topic, being MySpace (2003). One of the biggest debates about social networking is privacy, so I decided to delve into the topic myself and created a research question of, To what extent does social networking, beginning with MySpace(2003), affect the privacy of a United States citizen? [Scope of Investigation] Throughout my investigation, privacy in social networking was examined through three filters: government surveillance, privacy between users, and social networking s effect on computer viruses. Each topic was broken up into three or four sub topics, to further detail and describe the extent of privacy positives and negatives in social media. All three ideas were researched extensively as well as examined through much personal experience and the experience of others. Marijuana, also known as cannabis, is currently an illegal recreational herb or substance in Canada with some exceptions to government authorized dispensaries for medical use. Legalization means its legal but with regulations in place. Cigarettes are legal but have many regulations on how they are made, how they are packaged, how they are sold and even used. Legalization of marijuana ensures regulations are put in place for the wellbeing of all Canadians. There are many benefits to legalizing marijuana such as making the substance less accessible to minors, increase taxation revenues, and lowering criminal activity. • 14. Literary Analysis Of Rome Fever, And Edith Wharton sRoman... Roman Fever: W, A New Leaf: L Critical literary analysis can be used in many ways: simply to understand a story s purpose, the story s characters, and many other aspects to understand a story fully. Critical literary analysis can also be used to try to determine an opinion between two books and their valueas a story. In the case between Roman Fever written by Edith Wharton and F. Scott Fitzgeralds A New Leaf , Roman Fever is the superior story between the two. After in depth analysis of both stories, Roman Fever deserves the higher ranking simply because of its literary elements. Roman Fever written by Edith Wharton has a more complex plotstructure than A New Leaf . The plot structure in a Roman Fever is more complex because it is not simply chronological. The story does use a chronological structure to describe how long the two characters have been sitting together, and to further the story, but there are mentions of the past that divert from the chronological order. These glimpses into the past from the characters, Alida Slade and Grace Ansley, add artistic unity to the story, meaning that these flashbacks cannot be removed, otherwise the story would not be comprehendible. The purpose of Roman Fever is not the plot but the characters and their relationship, and the change and develop of Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley. This alone rank Roman Fever above A New Leaf because A New Leaf relies heavily on chronological plot structure and the plot to truly drive the story. The plot also ties in heavily the stereotype of the pattern of three s. Julia rejects both Dick and Phil twice before accepting them both on the third time. Many of the analysis questions for A New Leaf focus on the plot rather than anything else, including two about Phil and Dick and plot, 4. What causes Julia to reject Dick, twice? What in his behavior causes her rejections, and what in her character causes them? 5. What is the function of Phil Hoffman in the plot? Why does Julia reject him, and why does she finally marry him? The characters of Roman Fever are dynamic in a literary way and are the main focus of the story. If the relationship between the two characters, and the characters themselves, were not made ... Also, in the Middle Ages, people were encouraged to always try their best; they were encouraged to strive for the highest achievement possible and to never give up. The Renaissance, however, was more focused on becoming matured and finding a way to be successful at everything one does. During this era, people strived to become all sided men, also known as; renaissancemen. They believed that the people of the Middle Ages used religion as an excuse to drink and gain money and power (Document 5). The Middle Ages was a time where people were more conserved with education and did not have the curiosities that fell upon those in the Renaissance. Curiosity of the human body and deeper knowledge about art and literature became two popular areas throughout the Renaissance. Leonardo daVinci drew beautiful pieces of art that depicted the natural and realistic human body and it s internal muscle and bone structures. The drawings of the human body by daVinci, show that he was not afraid to go the distance and have no limits as to how far he will push himself to understand the human body (Document 6). Leonardo was a true Renaissance man. In addition, another evidential person who leads a reader towards making the inference that the Renaissance is a separate era from the Middle Ages, is Johannes Kepler. Johannes Kepler was an astronomer from Germany that made an observation about people in the Middle Ages that tend to follow and agree with everything the priests say. Johannes said that with the distinct knowledge of the Renaissance, people now had their own education and had the power to question what others said or thought (Document 7). Education was always existent through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. However, the education during the Renaissance was extremely different and more widely spread than the education that was provided in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Erving Goffman Stage Theory In this essay, I will be explaining Erving Goffman s social concept called dramaturgy, primarily focusing on the element of stage theory. I will also incorporate Peter Borger s social construction of reality within the essay as it also relates to stage theory. I will be describing what these concepts mean it my own words, based off experiences in my own life, research that I have done, as well as using the information that we gathered in class. Then we will be looking at college students as a case study group, where we will go into greater detail to better explain the stage theory concept and how the behavior of college students is significantly dependent upon the stage and location they are in, as well as how they are impacted deeply by society. Some of the information that I will be gathering will come from a non academic source, which gives a brief descriptive summary of college students and why they make a perfect fit for this stage theory example. Lastly will be an analysis process of the information that I gathered about the stage theory. This process also includes a summary of an academic source that applies a variation of stranger theory and social construction of reality to a similar case study. The sociological concept called dramaturgy is very interesting and Erving Goffman s idea is worth looking into on a deeper level to better understand it. I had previously heard about the stage theory before this sociological theory class, but did not really have a grasp as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. What American Ideal Sets Our Country Apart As Unique And... What American ideal sets our country apart as unique and all its own, different from all other countries in the world? The idea of true liberty, or freedom from oppression within society (Oxford Dictionary), can be seen throughout American culture. This quality, however, has not always been equally demonstrated to all groups of people. Ever since the founding of the country, the African American community has strived for liberty and equality in society. After being pushed down into the chains of slavery, they began to rise and fight for what was rightfully theirs through the blood, sweat, and tears of many. The American ideal of liberty has gradually expanded and provided new opportunities for the once enslaved community of African Americans; this expansion has been the result of the lifelong efforts and struggles of members of that community like Olaudah Equiano, Frederick Douglass, Mr. Ryder, W.E.B. DuBois, and Booker T. Washington. Olaudah Equiano grew up as a free boy in Africa. In his narrative, he defined liberty when describing his village as celebrating every great event... in public dances, which [were] accompanied with songs and music suited to the occasion (Equiano 356). Before Africans were enslaved, they were a free race in their own land. The native Africans understood liberty as the ability to govern themselves and hold their livelihood in their own hands. • 20. A Musical Called The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz With An All... In 1974, a musical called The Wiz opened in Baltimore at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre and on Broadway in 1975. The Wiz was an urbanized retelling of L. Frank Baum s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with an all African American cast placed within the context of 1960 s and 1970 s African American society. The musical kept the rural Kansas setting and agrarian Oz as well as many of the other central plot devices from the novel. In 1978 Motown released a movie loosely based on the musical which starred Diana Ross as Dorothy, Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, Nipsey Russell as the Tinman, and Ted Ross as the Cowardly Lion. The movie moved the story from Kansas to Harlem and Oz to fantastical dystopian version of New York City. The Wiz has several female characters that are central to the storyline: Aunt Em, Miss One the Good Witch of the North, Evillene the WickedWitch of the West, Evamean the Wicked Witch of the East, Glinda the Good Witch of the South, and Dorothy. All of them except for Dorothy are representative of some form of the motherly family oriented place African American woman hold in society. Dorothy represents a new type of female role for African American woman in society, one that is independent and has choices about what role she wants to play in society. This paper argues that Motown s production of The Wiz shows the creation of a new role for black women in society, one independent from the motherly family oriented role society previously expected of them. For some it may be a simple and easy answer consisting of just living your life to the fullest extent. Others look at it more theoretically and want to narrow it down to a definition. The American Dream as they call it was first conceived when the founding fathers of America wrote the Declaration of Independence in the 1700 s. IT was later made into an actual phrase in 1931 when James Truslow Adams, author of the book Epic of America , coined the phrase in this same book, which detailed his version of the American dreamvery explicitly. • 22. Queer Representation Of All Ages Media Essay Queer Representation in All Ages Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected exactly how homosexualitywas portrayed in media at the time. Queercharacters and homosexuality were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst, something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly watches reads comics, watches Saturday morning cartoons and plays video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of progress that has been made in queer representation in all ages media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all ages media and highlight the impact of media representation. Before celebrating the strides of queer representation in all ages media, it is important to look back at queer representation in the past. The late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly researched the evolution of queer representation in cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet. In order to confirm these known stereotypes about American culture, Eighner includes autobiographical accounts of the economically inferior class, as well as revealing his elitist rules that governs the life of a homeless person. According to Eighner, homeless people fall into the following categories, can scroungers , Dumpster divers , and scavengers. (Eighner, 1993). Eighner sees can scroungers at the bottom of his elitist list because of the obtrusiveness to the practice of common scavengers. Furthermore, Eigher declares, a true scavenger hates to see good stuff go to waste, and what he cannot use he leaves in good condition in plain sight. Eighner as a homeless person uncovers his working within tradition of an archeologist. Similar to the archeologist, Eighner dubiously obtains information about those he scavenges from. Eighner feels that the refuge of the common consumer is more valuable then what people originally think. Eighner fervently states, I avoid trying to draw conclusions about the people who dump in the Dumpsters I frequent, when in fact he constantly juxtaposes his position to the affluent people. For instance, Eigher frequents affluent college dorms because of the extreme wastefulness the college student s exhibit. He further passes judgment begrudgingly stating, ..it s Daddy s money. (Eighner, 1993) Moreover, it is the use of these rhetorical strategies that the author implements to deliberately expose his superiority over college students because of his swiftness in retrieving private information. • 36. Blue Player Research Paper This means the second shift must be either a pair with the third Red player and a Gold player or the pair with the two Gold players. Which do you choose? At first blush, you would think the Red/Gold pair would make the most sense, and all other matters being equal, it is the right choice and the normal rotation. Nevertheless, maybe we should look deeper. Looking ahead, if you cannot obtain four rotations, whom will the penalized Blue player skate with when he comes out of the box? In our example that normally would be Gold 1 and Gold 2. Are you comfortable with him on that mixed line? What positions will everyone on the line play? If you like what you see, tell your assistant coach to follow Red 1 and Red 2 with Red 3 and Gold 3 and then Gold... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the puck is in our end, having him skate to the bench extends the power play and that is unacceptable. However, it is also unacceptable to have him go into the play and have three defensemen with no one certain as to what their responsibilities are. Keep it simple and do not change the process. Go back to SECOND in our prior example and treat the defenseman as if he is a forward. He will play a role customary for a forward until a play stoppage or the puck comes out of our end and we change on the fly. As an example, since kids normally play better on the same wing they shoot from, if the defenseman shoots right handed, think of him as a right wing. I have also had success with a defenseman coming out of the box to play center if there were three rotations. In our normal defensive system in the defensive zone, the center plays low and helps the defense. There is a regular rotation between defense and center. Therefore, our defensemen are comfortable playing center for this limited purpose in our end. This may not work for you if you use a different defensive scheme. Either way, make sure all know what the plan is. Again, we are not looking for three rotations, but we are planning in case it ends up that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Summary Of War Of The Rats War of the Rats The Battle of Stalingrad, perhaps the single most critical and certainly one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, is a great setting for a historical fiction story. His story centers on a duel to the death between two men: Chief Master Sgt. Vasily Zaitsev, sniper, one of the best of the Russian army, and a German SS colonel named Heinz Thorvald, the Nazis greatest marksman. When Russian snipers led by Zaitsev begin to take a demoralizing toll of German troops, picking them off like hunters shooting bears, the high command in Berlin dispatches Thorvald to the battlefield with orders to accomplish a single task: kill Zaitsev. A deadly contest ensues, with Robbins skillfully building up each of his protagonists as so deadly in their murderous crafts as to make them feared as a person and well liked as a reader. It is not David versus Goliath, but Hercules versus Zeus, the manly conflict of two equally matched and equally remorseless adversaries. The story moreover is based, Robbins writes in the introduction, on two real historical figures, though it is unclear whether the real Zaitsev and Thorvald engaged in the kind of duel described in War of the Rats. Robbins opens with a German lieutenant named Hofstetter who makes the mistake of tilting his head back to drink from a canteen and is dropped by a single shot from a distant rifle. We, then, meet his killer, the Russian Zaitsev, who, before World War II, was a hunter on the Siberian taiga, instructed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparison of the French and the United States Political Structures Marcy McNeal SnookPOLS 241 Summer 2014 Incomplete Introduction Political culture is one of the defector concepts of contemporary social science. Theorists have not provided a persuasive picture of its casual role whereas analysts have not been able to do without it in explaining experimental results. Therefore, political culture can combine with the political structure to create or maintain regime form. Political structures are defined as the formal or informal political procedures through which decisions are made regarding the usage, production and distribution of resources in any given community. Formal political structures through its organizations can control processes such as election of leaders; parts and tasks of the executive and administration; organization of political representation (through political parties); and the obligation and oversight of the state. Informal and communal political structures, customs and rules can work within or together with the formal political organizations. In development, democratic political structures are seen to deliver prospects for all without discrimination (Scott Mcloughlin, 2014). Before a state can produce, it must realize the social peace that in turn ensures peaceful coexistence of the citizens.
