Core Competencies For Healthcare Professionals
My Leadership SMART Goal
The Institute of Medicine has defined five core competencies for healthcare
professionals. These competencies are to provide patient centered care, work in inter
professional teams, employ evidence based practice, apply quality improvement, and
utilize informatics. (Finkelman, 2012, p. 214). Nurse leaders recognize that the need
to put the patient first is at the heart of patient centered care and is significant in all
aspects of nursing care. Patient centered care incorporates collaboration with the
patient and family and takes into consideration cultural diversity or issues that will
affect the patient s ability to manage and maintain their health. Keeping the lines of
communication open with our patients involves assuring that they are kept abreast of
their health management and provided with up to date education to help them utilize
measures to maintain their health. As nurses we are accountable to our patients and
need to stay current with our own education and commit to lifelong learning (Fights,
2012) to be sure we are passing on up to date and relevant information. Acquiring
certification is an important way of validating our practice and proving our
commitment to providing quality patient centered care. Fights challenges us to ask
ourselves if we are committed to lifelong learning or furthering our education.
Signing up at Chamberlain to obtain my BSN was an important step for me but I will
not let this be the end of learning.

literature, not only because it explores some of the most profound questions we
humans ask about their lives, but also because it is extremely well written. Job
divides readily into a prologue in prose, a poetic main division and an epilogue, also
in prose:
The prologue or back story narrates how, with the permission of God, a holy man
Job is tried by Satan with severe afflictions, in order to test his virtue. In succession
Job bears six great temptations with heroic patience, and without the slightest
comment against God or wavering in loyalty to him. Then Job s three friends,
Eliphaz, Baldad, and Sophar, come to console him. Their visit is to become the

Genetically Modified Organism, Agriculture, And

Genetically Modified Organism
Agriculture, a necessity for providing basic needs, has evolved tremendously since
the first time it was practiced. When first started, agriculture was relatively simple:
plant the seeds, water the seeds, and gather the end product. Now, agriculture has
changed to include pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers to produce and
maintain higher yields. The Green Revolution in the 1940 s to 1970 s help modernize
agriculture with high yielding varieties, better irrigation systems, and synthetic
fertilizers. Without the Green Revolution, world hunger would have been a lot
higher than it was in the past (Easterbrook 1997). Conventional farming was
established thanks to the revolution and helped greatly in keeping world food
security. The world is still a limited resource and the amount of fertile land that
allows production of agriculture can only decrease from now. Current production
of agriculture may not be able to keep up with the steady population growth of the
developing countries. The population is projected to increase from roughly 7 billion
currently to 9.1 billion by 2050, meaning that there will be 2 billion more mouths to
feed (UNPD). Agriculture needed something new to help provide higher yields of
crops in order to keep world hunger levels at a minimum. Luckily in the mid 1990 s,
genetically modified organism, or GMO, crops were implemented on a large scale in
the United States. Genetically modified organism is an organism

I sat in the chair with my leg shaking, the palms of my hands barely able to hold

should be getting a tattoo so soon after you turn eighteen. As any child would, I
ignored his heeding and went along with my plan of getting inked. I was excited; I
was scared. I couldn t believe I was doing this. Matt called my name when he

Abstract:
Every year millions of tons of plastic are dumped around the world. Every year
hundreds of thousands of people lose their homes due to fires or natural disasters.
1.6 billion people in the world are homeless and have nowhere to call home but by
using my idea of using/melting plastic (high density polyethylene) and comparing it
to standard building materials that make houses , it will enable hundreds of
thousands of people to have a place that they call home and it will create jobs as well.
Investigative question:
How does a high density polyethylene brick differ from a clay bricks in different tests

Negotiation Strategy and Tactics Tutorial
Negotiation Strategy and Tactics Tutorial
Prepare responses to the questions below after viewing the Negotiation Strategy and
Tactics Tutorial in this week s lecture. In drafting your answers to the questions, make
sure that you apply course concepts in your answers.
Part A: What are the objectives of both parties in the exchanges?
Marilyn and Len are both looking out for their teams, and protecting their own best
interests. Marilyn s objective is to get Len to turnover five billion dollars worth of
viable accounts. Len s objective is to get Marilyn to accept the accounts he has
chosen to give her, so that his team won t incur a loss of commission. How would
you describe the general tone of the exchanges?
I would describe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used more than one frame. He used an outcome frame when stating his
preferences, and a characterization frame when stating that he viewed Marilyn s team
as not ready to handle viable accounts.
What do you project the outcome of the first exchange to be?
Because resources are fixed and limited, both used distributive bargaining strategies
and tactics. Both appear to be competing with each other. I project a win lose for
Len. Marilyn tried to get Len to reduce his resistance point by reminding him that
they had made an agreement, and that she was expecting him to commit to it. Her
strategy was shortsighted because she didn t anticipate the frame they would be
using, or the frame Len would be using. Len elected to reframe his position on the
basis of power, using Joe as leverage, which was done intentionally, since Marilyn s
challenges seemed to fuel his creativity.
Part C: Were Marilyn s objectives achieved in the second exchange?
Yes. Marilyn used an active engagement strategy that persuaded Len to reveal his
target and resistance points. She got Len to see that their goals are not mutually
exclusive, and that they need to work on a transfer schedule that results in a win win.
She used key steps in the integrative negotiation process to shift the tone and focus of
the exchange. She defined the problem, stated it as a goal, and avoided stating
solutions that favored her side only, until they could meet with Joe to examine

Miking A Sound Piano Analysis
There are only two groups of people who do not shudder with fear when faced with
recording the acoustic piano: The well versed and the completely oblivious. Most
other recording engineers tend to secretly break a sweat when looking forward to a
critical gig recording the piano.
Miking the piano is the big brother of miking the acoustic guitar. The complex tones
and harmonics emanate from the whole instrument. For this reason, you will need
mics that can handle a large frequency range with minimal off axis coloration. Keep
this in mind when choosing the right mic for the job.
Get the piano ready to record
The best recording engineers will arrive at the studio a bit early to look over the
piano and be sure that it is ready to record. Artists ... Show more content on

A clear understanding of this one point will set your piano recording skills a cut
above the rest. As an example, check out the Paul Cantrell method listed in the
miking techniques below.
Take the lid off completely
While to do suggest that you learn to deal with the way the lid changes and reflects
the sound of the piano, I will also suggest that there are times when it is better to
remove the lid completely and set it aside.
A concert grand piano was made to be used in a large volume room with nice
reverb. A good deal of the rooms that these pianos are recorded in definitely do not
fall into that category. For this reason, don t be afraid to change things up a bit. The
pins on most grand pianos will come out easily. Recruit the help of a friend and
carefully set the lid aside. When removing the lid of a grand piano, things change in
the following ways:
High frequencies are no longer reflected off the lid and to the side. They spread
upward.
The issue of early reflections from the lid is eliminated. Closer miking techniques can
be used over the strings without phase issues caused by those quick
Privacy In Canada Essay
As a Canadian in today s society we believe we have a certain set of inalienable
rights. One of those rights that seem to be at the forefront of the 2015 Canadian
election is privacy. As Dr. Kent Roach and Dr. Craig Forcese state, privacy is, in
our society, the right to be left alone by the state. The Conservative upbringing of
Bill C 51 challenges the ideology around our right to be private, as well as our
government s role in the protection of Canadafrom threats of terrorism. The Harper
government essentially, will increase their role in national security to keep a
constant watchful eye on potentially harmful situations and end them before
anyone is hurt or killed. If passed, the bill would allow the government to arrest
anyone suspected of terrorism without that person even committing a crime.
Furthermore, the language used in the bill is extremely vague and makes one
question, where the line will be drawn? Will our basic rights to peaceful protest
and free speech be affected? Unfortunately perhaps they will. One of the most
concerning parts of the bill in regard to privacy is the fact that the government will
now be able to access several sensitive documents about citizens from top agencies
such as the Public Health Agency, Canadian Border Services Agency as well as the
Canadian Border Services Agency. Privacy is changing in Canada. This is a
landmark bill and as such it is creating quite a splash in the ongoing Canadian
Election.

International Tourism s Effect On Medical Tourism
Introduction In this paper, I will evaluate Hallyu in regards to its effect on medical
tourism. However, I will first define the terms in order to give a clearer picture of
what is Hallyu and which medical tourism I am referring too. Hallyu is defined as
the growing popularity of Korean based products that include drama, film, and pop
music (Kim). It is also used to describe the fast spreading popularity of Korean
culture like food, clothing, and housing. Recently, Hallyu or Korean Wavehas not just
swept over Asia, but also Middle East, Africa, and America. Out of all sector,
medical tourism is one of the biggest areas that received big impacts from Hallyu.

In fact, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi admits that Bae Yon joon, the
lead actor of the series is more famous than him (Lee). These forces develop
interests for non Korean to engage with Korean lifestyle (Kim). It fosters them to try
eating Korean food, learning their language, and dressing like Korean to an extent
that Hallyu is cultivated in their daily routine (Hae Joang 147 150).
Hallyu has highlighted medical tourism through the representation of celebrities
on screen and paper in which they are portrayed to have a perfect looking skin. For
example, in dramas like Boys over Flower, all characters including the unfortunate
one s are portrayed to have that flawless and impeccable looks (Glynn, Basil, and
Kim 1 2). This set a high beauty standard for the viewers to attain. They are willing
to spend a lot of money to travel to South Korea just to find out the secret and truth
about Korean beauty. Then, plastic surgery becomes a known and popular alternative
for them to achieve that dream. The industry booms even farther after knowing that
cosmetic surgery is common for Korean people. International Society of Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) reports that there would be a person out of every five
people that undergo plastic surgery in Korea based on 100,000 of Korea s general
population (Eun). In 2010, the number of non Korean patients is only 82,000,
however, in 2016 the number increases to 400,000 (Arirang TV).

Dumas Method
Introduction
In order to identify new materials, scientists use a variety of chemical and physical
methods to determine molecular masses. One of these methods includes the Dumas
method for determining the molecular weight of a volatile liquid. This method,
which was proposed by John Dumas in 1826, makes use of a volatile liquid
(vaporizes at a relatively low temperature) and allows this liquid to be heated in a
water bath to a known temperature and escape from a flask through a tiny opening
(Giunta, 2003). In this situation, vapours are assumed to be obeying the Ideal Gas
Law, which is PV = nRT. P is the current atmospheric temperature, measured in
atmospheres, V is the volume of the flask, n is the moles of the gas and T is the ...

A Story Of A Short Story
The knock at the door startled Dana. She set the Bible she was reading aside,
stood, and approached the door. Mrs. Destiny? A mans voice sounded. The woman
opened the door. An aged man stood before her, with an envelop in his hands. I m
afraid... he sighs We are... truly sorry for your loss. Mr. Bryan was a good solider,
always there when you needed him. He placed his hand on her shoulder, and handed
Destinythe envelope. She stood there, the morning sun beating down on her. The
wife s hands shook as she struggled to open the letter. It had been hours after the
anonymous man had given her her husbands death notification. She would now be
a widow. Destiny wept for many hours, and realized her children were still
sleeping. She would have to tell them. She kneeled to the ground, her hands
gripping the carpet viciously, as she wept and turned to the Lord for answers. The
day following, the unexpected happed yet again. In an mostly uninhabited area of
land in the scorching Arizona temperatures lay two houses. One, belonged to a
wed couple Destiny and Bryan. The other, A young couple with an infant. They
lived countless miles from any city. Disaster struck in the form of a sandstorm.
After digging their way from the basement ruins, the family looked upon what was
left of their house. Dana, what Bryan used to call his wife, made sure her children
were okay. Nick, Haley, Destiny said studying her neighbors house remains, stay
here and check the car. Dana walked over to Joyce and Bobs house. She saw they
were all okay, and walked a short distance back to her own children. Nick steps
towards her, The car won t start, the engines ruined from the storm. She looked
back over to her neighbors as they approached. Our vehicles are useless. We can t
stay here, not with Grey. Grey began to cry as Joyce cradled him. Dana quietly
asked the Lord for aid as she marched to what was once her house. She scummed the
remains for anything useful. A similar book, her Biblecaught her eye. She picked it
up amazed, and thanked her savior. Hours later, they found themselves heading
towards a city. Haley tap her mother on the shoulder. I have this bottle of water with

Etiology And Characteristics Of Laryngeal Cleft
Etiology and Characteristics of Laryngeal Cleft Kseniya Shinkevich December 2,
2014 Dr. Walden IntroductionLaryngo tracheo esophageal cleft, referred more
commonly as laryngeal clefts are an uncommon congenital anomaly of the
posterior larynx, which may also affect the trachea and esophagus. (Thiel,
Clement, Kubba, 2011). Richter documented the first laryngeal cleft in 1792 when
he performed an examination of aspirating newborn. However, the first successful
surgical repair procedure was performed over 150 years later in 1955 by Petterson
(Chien et al., 2006). It is more common in males than females. Laryneal clefts have
been approximated to occur every 1/10,000 to every 1/20,000 live births annually.
It should be noted, that this most likely is an underestimation as some minor forms
go undiagnosed and other severe forms may result in fatalities (Leboulanger
Garabedian, 2011). Depending of the severity, diagnosing laryngeal cleft requires
multiple diagnostic methods implements such as, functional endoscopic
evaluation of swallow (FEES) and/or modified barium swallow (MBS). However,
both FEES and MBS do not account for all levels of swallowing and may produce
normal results when there may be a problem. Therefore, specialists have deemed the
gold standard for the diagnosis as microlaryngoscopy under general anesthesia. This
procedure allows for professionals to get a closer and in depth look look at the larynx

On the other hand, parametric approach in terms of using computational
frameworks in design is becoming a promising tool for architects [6]. It utilizes
computational capabilities in conceiving new design concepts by embedding more
intelligence into the design process. A design process is defined by Langen and
Brazier as a generator of a description of a design object that satisfies a given set of
design requirements and fulfils a given set of design objectives. Throughout the
design process, an evolution of the design takes place where the description of the
design components and requirements and objectives change and evolve within the
design process, from an abstract definition toward more measurable criteria [7].
Traditionally, architects tend to integrate measurable criteria in the design process
only in relatively advanced phases of that process [6]. While, in earlier phases of
design, assessing the fulfilment of design requirements relies on the insight of the
designer and focuses on a limited range of performances that the designer deems the
most important (like functional and aesthetics) and in a lot of cases dropping
performances (Like environmental and thermal) to a last minute assessment or an
add on. The postponement of these engineering environmental aspects during
conceptual design has a large impact on the success of the design solution [8]; [9];
[10]; [11], hence, this approach limits the success of the
Germany s Production And Consumption Of Biodiesel
In many international countries, Europe is the prime continent that is in lead in the
production and consumption of biodiesel. Because Europe is governed by the
European Union, their policy was rethought due to costs of food supply and carbon
dioxide statistics. The European Union proposed a 5.75% cap on the fraction of fuel
that is biofuel. ( Europe ) The policy changed to ensure sustainable production and
environmental responsibility, provide enhanced trade between EU member states,
and support research and innovation , ( Europe ) which are some of the new parts
of the biofuel strategy. These policies are also looking into new taxation directives
and biomass plans. Today, Germany is the top leading country in the production of
biodiesel, producing 2,859 millions of liters per year. Germany has made a huge
commitment in trying to increase the use of renewable energy, which Is why they
are leading the production of biodiesel. Before this Germany relied on oil 90% of
the time, however now, Germany government supports biofuel production and
environmental responsibility through the legislations. ( Europe ) Germany supports
renewable energy directive started by the EU, and has also started tax incentives
for biodiesels, as well as set obligations for various regions in producing biomass.
Since 2015, Germany s legislation resulted in a drastic improvement of climate
performance of biodiesel production. (Beckman) Mineral oil sellers need to now

Rappaccini s Daughter, By Susanna Rowson
Literature has historically been a means of passing traditions down, providing
entertainment, inspiring creative ideas, and transferring knowledge through several
generations. In society, literature can be embraced for its innovation or condemned
for the values it intently expresses against societal, political, and even religious
views. Social criticism in literature is meant to directly or subtly call out the flaws in
the social structure in an attempt to create awareness or evoke reforms. Many literary
works invent characters who either gladly embrace gender and sexuality norms or are
predisposed to them and live unconsciously, but are ultimately ruined in the end as a
means to show the issue with definitive terms that categorize individuals. In 1791,
British American novelist Susanna Rowson published her novelCharlotte Temple in
England, and later it published in 1794 in the United... Show more content on

The story describes the life of a young woman who is engineered into romantically
falling in love with the soldier John Montraville and eloped to America with him.
Leaving behind her family and morals that she grew up on, Charlotte Temple faces
struggles and hard times as she is ultimately abandoned in a new country. American
gothic novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne created the short story Rappaccini s Daughter in
1844, and it depicts a young student, Giovanni Guasconti, and his travels to Italy for
school. Living next to a discrete scientist whose daughter tends to the garden in their
backyard, Giovanni investigates the beautiful creature to find that she had been
converted to a science experiment by her father s doing. These two works

Sir Thomas Aquinas And William Paley s Argument On
The...
Sir Thomas Aquinas and William Paley present two arguments for the existence of
God. Aquinas defines God as omnibenevolent (all good) for his argument, and he
continues in The Five Ways to present arguments to prove God s existence (Rosen
et al. 11). Paley, on the other hand, primarily defines God as a designer worthy of
our admiration for his work (Rosen et al. 27). During class discussion, defining God
involved three major qualities: omnipotence, omniscience, and omnibenevolence.
Both Aquinas and Paley are attempting to prove the existenceof the (Christian) God
associated with these qualities. Although Aquinas s Cosmological Argument and
Paley s Argument from Design have different premises, both have a similar logical
gap in their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As discussed in class, modern scientific research provides alternatives to Aquinas s
presumed necessities. An infinite series of causes no longer seems impossible.
This research disproves Aquinas s third premise (P3), and his argument for God as
the first cause is consequently unnecessary. Furthermore, the fourth premise still
has a logical gap between the first cause and God. Aquinas offers no explanation as
to why the first cause must be God or a supernatural being at all. The first cause
may just as easily be a spontaneous event, or a first cause may not exist at all in an
infinite universal cycle.
William Paley has a similar logical gap in his Argument from Design, but he
attempts to address this issue in Chapter V. Previously in this argument, Paley
attests that the nature of humans and their parts implies a designer. From the
discussion in class, Paley s argument can be organized as follows: P1. Artifacts like
watches are complex and have a purpose. P2. Artifacts like watches have designers.
P3. The human eye is complex and has a purpose. C1. Therefore, the human eye
probably has a designer.
This kind of argument is analogical, and it does not prove certainty by its nature. In
the conclusion, probably is still a necessity. Certainty about the relevance of the traits
of design cannot be proven in the same manner of other logical arguments.
Complexity and purposefulness are not the only traits

The Era of Social Reform Essay
The Industrial Revolution was a period of in which fundamental changes occurred in
agriculture, factories, mining, transportation, machinery, economic policies, and in
the social structure of England. Industrialization began in Great Britain and it was a
major turning point in history. It changed the way countries produced its goods.
England turned into an agricultural society to an industry and manufacturing society.
During this era, there was a huge impact on the growth of cities, employment of
skilled and unskilled workers, the role of women and families, and laws and national
policies. During this time, there was a great advancement with technology and along
with it came the growth of cities. The growth of cities has been... Show more content

The population grew so rapidly, it increased 130 percent in 1800 to 1910 (Robert
Edgar Pg. 667). This led to the observation of Thomas Robert Malthus to forecast a
tragic future of massive famine on a global scale. In his Essay on Population he
states the power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to
produce subsistence for man (Malthus Ch.1). In other words, human reproduction
would outrun the earth s ability to produce food. He believed that population, when
unchecked, increases in a geometrical ratio while food production increased only in
arithmetic progression (Malthus Ch.1). This led him to conclude that the fate of
humanity would be misery. But he did not conclude that Europe would keep up
technological advancement and agricultural innovation, and therefore, the
population growth would keep up with the supply of food. Men worked in factories
and coal mines for long hours making little pay. Living in urban areas meant higher
living expenses and family resources would be insufficient. As a result, women and
children were sent out to work. The majority of these women and children worked
mainly in factories or in coal mines. These families needed to do this because they
needed the money. Factory owners would gladly employ these women and children

Why Boomerangs Come Back
Why do boomerangs come back?
When I was young, I thought boomerangs were magical. I wasn t sure if they
actually worked in real life, so I decided to make my own to test the idea. I took a
pizza box, cut out a boomerang shape from it, and threw it. It didn t come back. I
tried again and again, but I couldn t make it work. I was bewildered as to why my
boomerang didn t come back! As it turns out, I had constructed it incorrectly. I
thought a boomerang was just a flat, v shaped piece of material, and my design was
way off. But before we get into that, let s learn a little bit about the history of the
boomerang.
Considered by many to be the earliest heavier than air flying machine invented by
man, boomerangs have been around for more than ten thousand years. Australia is
known for having developed the boomerang, but the tool had widespread use
throughout the ancient world. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the question we will explore in my paper.
Boomerangs come back because, as I learned as a young child, they are more than
just oddly shaped sticks. The shape and structure of the wings and the way they are
joined together at the center are essential to their ability to turn in mid air and
come back to the thrower. Contrary to what you might think, boomerangs aren t
designed to work as a single piece of wood. They are made up of two or more
carefully shaped wings that are connected at the center. Each of these wings is
designed to maximize (or increase) lift on one side.
What is lift? , you might ask. The easiest way to explain the idea of lift is to compare
a boomerang wing to an airplane wing. If you look at the picture below, you will
see that an airplane wing is curved along the top and flat along the bottom. This is
the reason these massive machines can stay in the air: The air that goes over the
wing as the plane flies has to move faster than the air that goes below the wing in
order for them to move past the wing at the same
Judicial Branch Vs Executive Branch
Separations of powers is a principle of the United States government, giving powers
and responsibilities that are divided among the legislative branch, executive branch,
and judicial branch. Checks and balances are certain powers that each branch of our
federal government have to check on each other and make sure one branch isn t doing
something against the Constitution. These balances between the branches ensure that
no branch becomes too powerful. Preventing this means that all of the branches are
equal and balanced and allows a fair federal government for the people.
The branch that has the greatest amount of checks over the other branches is the
legislative branch. They have the most checks over the other branches for many
reasons. One reason is that this branch has the most people in it, combing both the
Senate and the House of Representatives. Also, this branch is the most directly
elected by the people and has people from every state. So, giving the branch that is
the largest and is closest to the people is a good idea. ... Show more content on

It can do this if it gets a 2/3 vote in both the Senate and the House of Representatives,
limiting the President s powers. The legislative branch also checks on the judicial
branch. It can do this by impeaching judges that are accused in the House and found
guilty by a 2/3 vote in the Senate. On the other hand, the executive branch can also
check back on the legislative by vetoing laws that the President thinks are
unconstitutional. Furthermore, the President (executive branch), can pardon any
person convicted of a federal crime, outrunning and overruling the judicial branch s
decision. Finally, the judicial branch, while considered the weakest, also has checks
on the other branches. Its check on the legislative branch is declaring laws that it
creates unconstitutional. Similarly, it can declare executive acts
Disadvantages Of Professional Kitchen Remodeling
Are you a homeowner who is looking to have your kitchen remodeled? If you are,
you likely already know that you, literally, have an unlimited number of options. In
addition to what you would like remodeled and how you would like everything to
look, you can also choose how your remodeling gets done. While a large number of
homeowners make the decision to do their own kitchen remodeling, there are others
who choose to use the assistance of a professional. That professional is often
commonly referred to as a contractor. One of the best ways to determine whether you
not you should use a professional contractor is to examine the advantages and
disadvantages of doing so.
As you may have already assumed, there are an unlimited number of benefits to
having your kitchen remodeled by a professional. Perhaps, the greatest benefit of a
professional kitchen remodeling job is the end result. In almost all cases, you will
find that a professional remodeling job is better than one that is performed by
someone without experience. Although it may sound easy to replace the lighting in
your kitchen or your kitchen countertops, you will find that it isn t always as easy as
it sounds. Instead of taking the time to learn, a large number of homeowner
automatically turn to a professional contractor.
Speaking of time, you will also find that time is another advantage to using a
professional contractor to remodel your kitchen. Since professional contractors are
experienced at what they do, they
Analysis Of Cass Sunstein s `` Simpler `` And A Proposed...
This memo is an application of some of the policy ideas Cass Sunstein has
described in his book Simpler, to a proposed soda tax in Oakland California. The
introduction of the tax, contained in Measure HH (as it appears on the ballot) has
been met with stiff opposition by some members of the Oakland area while others
have embraced the idea. Three ideas from Simpler will be tested in this California
case.
First of is a nudge. What is a nudge? According to Sunstein, nudges are approaches
that influence decisions while preserving freedom of choice (Sunstein 2013, p.38).
In other words, they are things that make one act or behave in a certain way, but
your resolve to choose still lies within your power. It could be taxes or fines,
according to Sunstein. This Oakland case satisfies the two main parts of nudges:
approaches (one cent per ounce excise tax) and freedom of choice (shoppers still
have the freedom to choose between sweetened and sugar free sodas). So, the city
council, in order to get people to consume less sugar, would want to impose soda tax
on the manufacturers (because they have the tendency of feeling the real effect in
terms of cost) and not the consumers. Consequently, if the council members vote in
favor of it, the authorities would have indirectly gotten its citizen to change behavior
with respect to sugar intake, without directly telling them to reduce sugar intake
because it has health consequences. They (the citizens) have been nudged
Closing Down Based On Test Scores Essay

the test and the score the school is ranked from 1 to however many schools there

Many schools are not doing their jobs when their test scores are at the bottom of the

What you can do is converge students from low score school to high score schools
and integrate them so they can pass these tests. When students are failing and
dropping out the problem has to be solved as these kids need to be helped.
Genuinely you can t just make scores rise in low test score schools but what you can
do is close schools that are not trying to educate their students. This will give the
opportunity for the students to get educated at a better school in their district. The
schools are not giving the needed resources for the kids to be successful.
Now schools with low ranking test scores and high dropout rates that are failing the
students should be closed down. There is no argument that these schools are not
providing what the student needs so they must be shut down to prevent these
unnecessary repercussions. This is one of the most important debates to date, these
kids are not only students but also the future of this entire nation. I personally go to
public school and I know how important these test scores are, they are your entire

Effects Of Ww2 On Western European Economy
World War II had devastating effects all across Europe. There were an immense
number of casualties resulting from the war, which deeply affected Europe s
economy. Central and Eastern Europe, suffered a severe shortage of men after the
war, and at one point the number of women surpassed the number of men by 20
million (Judt, Postwar, p.19). Western European states were short of labor and
welcomed stateless people to begin economic and material reconstruction. Civilians
homes all across Europewere destroyed, farms were no longer farmable, railroad
tracks and bridges were blown up, and communications were severely disrupted
(Judt, Postwar, p.21). Following the end of World War II in 1945, the Iron Curtain

The air remaining in the lungs after a complete exhalation is called the residual
volume, normally about 1200 milliliters. Therefore, the total lung capacity (the
vital capacity volume plus the residual volume) is approximately 6000 milliliters.
All of these volumes (except residual volume) can be easily measured using a
spirometer. Basically, a spirometer is composed of an inverted bell in a water tank.
A breathing tube is connected to the bell s interior. On the exterior of the inverted
bell is attached a pen device that records respiratory volumes on paper. When one
exhales into the breathing tube, the bell goes up and down with exhalation.
Everything is calibrated so that respiratory volumes can be read directly from the
paper record. The paper moves at a pre set speed past the recording pen so that
volumes per unit time can be easily calculated. In addition to measuring the
respiratory volumes introduced so far, the spirometer can also be used to perform
pulmonary function tests. One such test is the forced vital capacity (FVC), or the
amount of air that can be expelled completely and as rapidly as possible after
taking in the deepest possible breath. Another test is the forced expiratory volume
(FEV1), which is the percentage of vital capacity that is exhaled during a 1 sec
period of the FVC test. This value is generally 75% to 85% of the vital capacity. In
the following experiments you will be simulating spirometry and
Child Labor In The British Industrial Revolution
Child labor. A very cruel part of the British Industrial Revolution. Among the worst,
children working at cotton mills was very harsh, dangerous, and terrible. In this
essay, I will be explaining why working at the cotton mills was the worst kind of
child labor in the British Industrial Revolution. Let s begin with the first two
reasons. Firstly, working conditions were horrible at the cotton mills. The
atmosphere was warm and dingy, and poor hygiene led to sickness and disease.
Not to mention the poor conditions outside the cotton mills from the coal mine s
smoke and other dangerous gases and chemicals. Secondly, children had injustice
with long hours and very low pay, working twelve hours a day for a couple of
pennies. If you were working at the time for food, water, shelter, and other needs,
they were very low standard and were the bare minimum. Says Bertha Miller of
Thomasville, NC, When paydays come around, I drawed three dollars. That was...

well as she could. He knocked her down again. Then she was carried to the
apprentice house. Her bed fellow found her dead in bed. There were just as harsh
punishments for little children and adults alike. Possibly the worst fact about the
cotton mills was that death was not entirely uncommon. Exposure to dangerous
machinery, warm atmospheres, and poor hygiene led to disease, fatigue, and death. A
disease that was common was byssinosis, or brown lung. It was caused by breathing
in leftover cotton strands. It was extremely
Compare And Contrast Stalin And Lenin
Lenin vs Stalin
Both Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin were horrible leaders of the USSR but each
do have their positives and negatives. For instance, Lenin started off by giving
proletarians (workers in general) limited amount of freedoms but then created a new
policy when the people disagreed with them. Stalin, on the other hand, made Russia
into an industrialized nation. However, this did cost lives of millions of people by
going to corrective labour camps. In my opinion, I believe that Vladimir Lenin was
the better leader.
I feel this because Lenin did have an intent to create a true communist state by having
a classless society while with Stalin, he wanted the USSR to make more money and
get further industrialized. In both cases it did

If the communication between service and is hidden from the system, the
dependency detection system will not be able to build the entire information flow
path between service and service and may miss the dependency relationship. A
dependency detection approach can be host based or network based, depending on
the data source it uses (network traces or system logs). Network based systems are
generally easier to deploy. A dependency detection approach can be application
dependent or application independent. An application independent approach works
correctly in the presence of unknown types of services. On the other hand, the
application dependent approaches need readjustments or reimplementations for
different types of services. A dependency detection approach may or may not
provide a measure of confidence for detected dependencies. To have a confidence
level for each dependency detection approach can help the administrators to decide
and choose their most important dependencies based on the most reliable
information. And finally, a dependency detection approach may or may not be
susceptible to confusing correlation with causation. 1.2 Previous Work NSDMiner[]

Cameras, The Right Angle, And Camera Cameras
Cameras are to photographers as paints and brushers are to painters. With the right
angle, lighting, and composition, a photographer can turn a simple scene into a
work of art. Cameras capture moments that would otherwise be lost, and allows
them to be saved and shared. They create photos which reveal how beautiful life is;
they tell a wordless story. Each photographer has their own favorites, own style, and
own experiences which call for certain types of cameras. The most popular cameras
are Point and Shoot, DSLR, and SLR. The Point and Shoot is the simplest of all the
cameras. You just point the camera, and shoot the photo. Most use focus free lenses
or autofocus for focusing, automatic systems for setting the exposure options, and
have flash units built in. They are popular with people who do not consider
themselves photographers and just need a camera to document special events or
other daily things they want to remember or deem as photo worthy. Point and
Shoot cameras have several physical pros. They are very compact, so they re very
easy to just slip into one s pocket and carry anywhere. They are light weight and
don t require any excess accessories such as bags or tripods to carry it around. They
all come with fixed lenses, so you don t have to worry about changing lenses. They
have a massive depth of field which means that typically can t separate foreground
from background, bringing everything in focus and making the entire scene look
sharp. And, they are the
Can Critical Regionalism Counteract The Impact Of...
Can Critical Regionalism counteract the impact of Globalisation on our cities?
In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become
a much smaller place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle
of identical fads and lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has
given birth to homogenous consumer culture. Demonstrated not only by the
expansion of multi national cooperations such as Apple and Starbucks but also by the
indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see the
identical steel, concrete and glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due to
the easy exportation of concepts and architects, however not obligatory. Whilst
advancing towards a modern society, architects have adapted this universal style of
architecture that fails to represent the unique topography of different cities. Architects
have the choice to either repeat the same building everywhere or to push ourselves
forward, to create an encounter between ourselves and the local culture (Koolhaas,
2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism were to be practiced by architects through
the integration of the local culture with modern techniques, it could potentially return
the missing identities of these cities.
Critical Regionalism was devised during the early 20th century, as an attempt to reject
the monotony developed by the International Style and the purposeless ornamentation

exploring the idea that as people get older they start to be sucked into the idea of
how they should look and act. Nobody keeps their innocence from a child and do
what they want to do. Seymour is disappointed at that
Transition To School
Learning is a continuous process and all parents will want their child to have a good
start. Families and teachers should work hand in hand for children to have a
successful transition to primary school. In order for prospective families to have their
children ready for transition to school, we will conduct a workshop on transition for
them to attend and providing relevant written about schoolreadiness for families to
read beforehand. We will also invite existing primary school families to share with
prospective families about their experiences they encountered. Prospective families
will be able to raise concerns or problems their children may be facing. They will also
be able to learn from other parents on playing an active role supporting
Chinese Astrology
Chinese Zodiac The ShД“ngxiГ o (Chinese: з”џи‚–), better known in English as the
Chinese Zodiac, is a scheme that relates each year to an animal and its reputed
attributes, according to a 12 year mathematical cycle. It has wide currency in
several East Asian countries such as China and Korea and Japan. Identifying this
scheme using the term zodiac reflects several similarities to the Western zodiac:
both have time cycles divided into 12 parts, each labels at least the majority of those
parts with names of animals, and each is widely associated with a culture of
attributing influence of a person s relationship to the cycle upon their personality and
/or events in their life. Nevertheless, there are major differences: the Chinese 12 part

An Investigation On The Rocky Shore Ecosystem
The rocky shore ecosystem is built up of many rocky ledges that are covered with sea
water at high tide and exposed rock at low tide. This community contains many
different organisms that are well adapted to living in this environment. We visited this
marine reserve to extract a suffice amount of data about these organisms to conduct
an investigation on their community patterns of zonation and their interrelationships
with other species. The majority of this marine reserve is built up of sharp rock
which is exposed to the Cook Strait. We placed a transect line along this rock and
used a 50cm2 quadrat square, to record the percentage of species on the rocky shore
at different heights and substrates. From this investigation at the rocky shore we
discovered: Chamaesipho columna (barnacle) Chamaesipho brunnea (barnacle)
Sypharochiton pelliserpentis (chiton) Cellana denticulata (limpet) Cellana radians
(limpet) Cellana omata (limpet) Austrolittorina antipodum (periwinkle)
Austrolittorina cincta (sea snail) Actinia tenebrosa (sea anemone) These organisms
were all well adapted to the environment and tidal condition of the rocky shore. They
show zonation and inter relationships; competition, predation and commensalism.
The main abiotic factor of the rocky shore was the movement of the tide creating
aerial exposure. Zonation at the rocky shore was distributed in very distinct
horizontal bands that formed visible zones on the intertidal rock zones. This is due to

Take 5 has a base of brand loyal consumers
4. The unique combination of Take 5 ingredients is not duplicated
Weaknesses
1. Take 5 has low brand recognition in comparison to other Hershey brands
2. Previously low promotional support for Take 5 may hinder revitalized IMC
campaign
3. Top management not understanding the benefits of social media and its ability to
track ROI.
Opportunities
1. Increase brand recognition by associating with the Hershey name
2. Reach the lucrative 18 34 year old market
3. Take advantage of consumer preferences for sweet and salty combination of tastes
Threats
1. Potential copycat products from key competitors
2. Consumers, especially younger consumers, becoming more health conscious
Strengths
Hershey s primary strength is its powerful, trustworthy brand image. Currently,
Hershey is the market leader for the United States chocolate market with 44.3%
market share, followed by Mars at 29.8%, for a combined 74.1 % of the market
(Pogharian, 2013). Hershey s dominant market leadership position allows it the
leverage to build its own brands with minimal opposition. If competitors were to
respond with similar products to Take 5, Hershey would have the resources to
protect against loss of market share. Hershey s Take 5 bar is not only unique in the
combining of five ingredients (milk chocolate, peanuts, caramel, peanut butter and the
rare incorporation of pretzels) but it has done so with
Mercyhurst University Student Liability Study
There is a liability factor that is associated with bringing teenagers onto the
Mercyhurst University campus in order to show and teach them about higher
education. It is important that all members that are going to be on the tour will be
transported safely and properly with either the help of the YMCA or our group
members. Mercyhurst Universityand our group that will be representing the
university should be held responsible in providing accurate and motivational
information to the group as a way of upholding the mercy core values we stand for
and perpetuating an image that is appropriate to the institution. This project is going
to involve us as a group walking around campus in which the participants and
Mercyhurst University students could be subject to personal injuries, property losses,
or damage in connection with the activity of the visit. It is important that the
teenagers abide by all the rules and regulations of the University, behave in a
respectful manner, and be attentive to the message we are trying to convey to them.
Although it is important for the group to enjoy themselves while on campus, it is
more important that they learn, make connections, and realize the importance of
higher educationand its benefits to their own individual... Show more content on

First, the organization will have to cooperate and provide transportation for the
youth from their agency to Mercyhurst campus and back to the agency. We will also
request the assistance of one of Mercyhurst s Ambassadors so that they can conduct
the tour. On the other hand, this group will request permission to the respective
authorities to conduct the tour and will also request financial resources for the meal,
schedule a time to visit the different facilities and will also ask for poster boards to
promote the tour in the
Purple Needle Grass History
Aside from the physical attributes along the hike, I also came across many forms
of biological life. From bugs on the ground to the birds in the sky the place seemed
steaming with wildlife. At the entrance there was an abundance of dry grass fields
that led into the narrower trail ahead. The grass most commonly known as Purple
Needle grass (Stipa Pulchra) covered most of the nearby land, the stalks were dry
and tan in color (Calscape(b) 2017). Walking deeper into the forest the grass lands
started to vanish and more greenery came into sight. A small bush caught my eye and

branches had five leaves in symmetrical order, 1 large leafat the end, 2 medium leaves

2005). Along with plant life there were also considerable amounts of organisms
that I spotted. Around the last stretch of the hike (10minutes left to the car) my
friend who was walking in front of me stopped and gazed into the distance. I
walked up to him as he pointed into a nearby brush. I couldn t tell what he was
pointing at when suddenly two large eyes popped out behind the leaves. The
creature s sharp ears pointed directly towards us as we both stood in silence. What
looks like a large house cat the creature sat and stared at us for a good 20 seconds.
Moments later we hear a rustle of leaves nearby, a similar (yet smaller) feline
appears and proceeds towards the other cat and they both walk off into the forest.
Bobcats (Lynx rufus) usually pose no real threat and most of the time avoid human
contact, supported in my case as they became aware of our presence and started to
head the opposite direction (A Z Animals, Nov 2008). Throughout the exploration I
ve come to realize that some of my pre visit research didn t quite match up to the
species I saw, this could be because of seasonal patterns or just random dispersal of
certain species and

  • 2. Core Competencies For Healthcare Professionals My Leadership SMART Goal The Institute of Medicine has defined five core competencies for healthcare professionals. These competencies are to provide patient centered care, work in inter professional teams, employ evidence based practice, apply quality improvement, and utilize informatics. (Finkelman, 2012, p. 214). Nurse leaders recognize that the need to put the patient first is at the heart of patient centered care and is significant in all aspects of nursing care. Patient centered care incorporates collaboration with the patient and family and takes into consideration cultural diversity or issues that will affect the patient s ability to manage and maintain their health. Keeping the lines of communication open with our patients involves assuring that they are kept abreast of their health management and provided with up to date education to help them utilize measures to maintain their health. As nurses we are accountable to our patients and need to stay current with our own education and commit to lifelong learning (Fights, 2012) to be sure we are passing on up to date and relevant information. Acquiring certification is an important way of validating our practice and proving our commitment to providing quality patient centered care. Fights challenges us to ask ourselves if we are committed to lifelong learning or furthering our education. Signing up at Chamberlain to obtain my BSN was an important step for me but I will not let this be the end of learning. Achieving

The Book of Job is one of the most celebrated pieces of biblical literature, not only because it explores some of the most profound questions we humans ask about their lives, but also because it is extremely well written. Job divides readily into a prologue in prose, a poetic main division and an epilogue, also in prose: The prologue or back story narrates how, with the permission of God, a holy man Job is tried by Satan with severe afflictions, in order to test his virtue. In succession Job bears six great temptations with heroic patience, and without the slightest comment against God or wavering in loyalty to him. Then Job s three friends, Eliphaz, Baldad, and Sophar, come to console him. Their visit is to become the seventh and greatest
  • 4. Genetically Modified Organism, Agriculture, And Synthetic... Genetically Modified Organism Agriculture, a necessity for providing basic needs, has evolved tremendously since the first time it was practiced. When first started, agriculture was relatively simple: plant the seeds, water the seeds, and gather the end product. Now, agriculture has changed to include pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers to produce and maintain higher yields. The Green Revolution in the 1940 s to 1970 s help modernize agriculture with high yielding varieties, better irrigation systems, and synthetic fertilizers. Without the Green Revolution, world hunger would have been a lot higher than it was in the past (Easterbrook 1997). Conventional farming was established thanks to the revolution and helped greatly in keeping world food security. The world is still a limited resource and the amount of fertile land that allows production of agriculture can only decrease from now. Current production of agriculture may not be able to keep up with the steady population growth of the developing countries. The population is projected to increase from roughly 7 billion currently to 9.1 billion by 2050, meaning that there will be 2 billion more mouths to feed (UNPD). Agriculture needed something new to help provide higher yields of crops in order to keep world hunger levels at a minimum. Luckily in the mid 1990 s, genetically modified organism, or GMO, crops were implemented on a large scale in the United States. Genetically modified organism is an organism

Both appear to be competing with each other. I project a win lose for Len. Marilyn tried to get Len to reduce his resistance point by reminding him that they had made an agreement, and that she was expecting him to commit to it. Her strategy was shortsighted because she didn t anticipate the frame they would be using, or the frame Len would be using. Len elected to reframe his position on the basis of power, using Joe as leverage, which was done intentionally, since Marilyn s challenges seemed to fuel his creativity. Part C: Were Marilyn s objectives achieved in the second exchange? Yes. Marilyn used an active engagement strategy that persuaded Len to reveal his target and resistance points. She got Len to see that their goals are not mutually exclusive, and that they need to work on a transfer schedule that results in a win win. She used key steps in the integrative negotiation process to shift the tone and focus of the exchange. Most other recording engineers tend to secretly break a sweat when looking forward to a critical gig recording the piano. Miking the piano is the big brother of miking the acoustic guitar. The complex tones and harmonics emanate from the whole instrument. For this reason, you will need mics that can handle a large frequency range with minimal off axis coloration. One of those rights that seem to be at the forefront of the 2015 Canadian election is privacy. As Dr. Kent Roach and Dr. Craig Forcese state, privacy is, in our society, the right to be left alone by the state. The Conservative upbringing of Bill C 51 challenges the ideology around our right to be private, as well as our government s role in the protection of Canadafrom threats of terrorism. The Harper government essentially, will increase their role in national security to keep a constant watchful eye on potentially harmful situations and end them before anyone is hurt or killed. If passed, the bill would allow the government to arrest anyone suspected of terrorism without that person even committing a crime. Furthermore, the language used in the bill is extremely vague and makes one question, where the line will be drawn? Will our basic rights to peaceful protest and free speech be affected? Unfortunately perhaps they will. One of the most concerning parts of the bill in regard to privacy is the fact that the government will now be able to access several sensitive documents about citizens from top agencies such as the Public Health Agency, Canadian Border Services Agency as well as the Canadian Border Services Agency. Privacy is changing in Canada. This is a landmark bill and as such it is creating quite a splash in the ongoing Canadian Election. Perhaps to Harper s disdain the bill

Etiology And Characteristics Of Laryngeal Cleft Etiology and Characteristics of Laryngeal Cleft Kseniya Shinkevich December 2, 2014 Dr. Walden IntroductionLaryngo tracheo esophageal cleft, referred more commonly as laryngeal clefts are an uncommon congenital anomaly of the posterior larynx, which may also affect the trachea and esophagus. (Thiel, Clement, Kubba, 2011). Richter documented the first laryngeal cleft in 1792 when he performed an examination of aspirating newborn. However, the first successful surgical repair procedure was performed over 150 years later in 1955 by Petterson (Chien et al., 2006). It is more common in males than females. Laryneal clefts have been approximated to occur every 1/10,000 to every 1/20,000 live births annually. It should be noted, that this most likely is an underestimation as some minor forms go undiagnosed and other severe forms may result in fatalities (Leboulanger Garabedian, 2011). Depending of the severity, diagnosing laryngeal cleft requires multiple diagnostic methods implements such as, functional endoscopic evaluation of swallow (FEES) and/or modified barium swallow (MBS). However, both FEES and MBS do not account for all levels of swallowing and may produce normal results when there may be a problem. Therefore, specialists have deemed the gold standard for the diagnosis as microlaryngoscopy under general anesthesia. This procedure allows for professionals to get a closer and in depth look look at the larynx

The postponement of these engineering environmental aspects during conceptual design has a large impact on the success of the design solution [8]; [9]; [10]; [11], hence, this approach limits the success of the

Social criticism in literature is meant to directly or subtly call out the flaws in the social structure in an attempt to create awareness or evoke reforms. • 23. Sir Thomas Aquinas And William Paley s Argument On The... Sir Thomas Aquinas and William Paley present two arguments for the existence of God. Aquinas defines God as omnibenevolent (all good) for his argument, and he continues in The Five Ways to present arguments to prove God s existence (Rosen et al. 11). Paley, on the other hand, primarily defines God as a designer worthy of our admiration for his work (Rosen et al. 27). During class discussion, defining God involved three major qualities: omnipotence, omniscience, and omnibenevolence. Both Aquinas and Paley are attempting to prove the existenceof the (Christian) God associated with these qualities. Although Aquinas s Cosmological Argument and Paley s Argument from Design have different premises, both have a similar logical gap in their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As discussed in class, modern scientific research provides alternatives to Aquinas s presumed necessities. An infinite series of causes no longer seems impossible. This research disproves Aquinas s third premise (P3), and his argument for God as the first cause is consequently unnecessary. Furthermore, the fourth premise still has a logical gap between the first cause and God. Aquinas offers no explanation as to why the first cause must be God or a supernatural being at all. The first cause may just as easily be a spontaneous event, or a first cause may not exist at all in an infinite universal cycle. William Paley has a similar logical gap in his Argument from Design, but he attempts to address this issue in Chapter V. Previously in this argument, Paley attests that the nature of humans and their parts implies a designer. From the discussion in class, Paley s argument can be organized as follows: P1. Artifacts like watches are complex and have a purpose. P2. Artifacts like watches have designers. P3. The human eye is complex and has a purpose. C1. Therefore, the human eye probably has a designer. This kind of argument is analogical, and it does not prove certainty by its nature. In the conclusion, probably is still a necessity. Certainty about the relevance of the traits of design cannot be proven in the same manner of other logical arguments. Complexity and purposefulness are not the only traits

The population grew so rapidly, it increased 130 percent in 1800 to 1910 (Robert Edgar Pg. 667). This led to the observation of Thomas Robert Malthus to forecast a tragic future of massive famine on a global scale. In his Essay on Population he states the power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man (Malthus Ch.1). In other words, human reproduction would outrun the earth s ability to produce food. He believed that population, when unchecked, increases in a geometrical ratio while food production increased only in arithmetic progression (Malthus Ch.1). This led him to conclude that the fate of humanity would be misery. But he did not conclude that Europe would keep up technological advancement and agricultural innovation, and therefore, the population growth would keep up with the supply of food. Men worked in factories and coal mines for long hours making little pay. Living in urban areas meant higher living expenses and family resources would be insufficient. As a result, women and children were sent out to work. The majority of these women and children worked mainly in factories or in coal mines. These families needed to do this because they needed the money. Factory owners would gladly employ these women and children for various

I wasn t sure if they actually worked in real life, so I decided to make my own to test the idea. I took a pizza box, cut out a boomerang shape from it, and threw it. It didn t come back. I tried again and again, but I couldn t make it work. I was bewildered as to why my boomerang didn t come back! As it turns out, I had constructed it incorrectly. I thought a boomerang was just a flat, v shaped piece of material, and my design was way off. But before we get into that, let s learn a little bit about the history of the boomerang. Considered by many to be the earliest heavier than air flying machine invented by man, boomerangs have been around for more than ten thousand years. Australia is known for having developed the boomerang, but the tool had widespread use throughout the ancient world. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the question we will explore in my paper. Boomerangs come back because, as I learned as a young child, they are more than just oddly shaped sticks. The shape and structure of the wings and the way they are joined together at the center are essential to their ability to turn in mid air and come back to the thrower. Contrary to what you might think, boomerangs aren t designed to work as a single piece of wood. They are made up of two or more carefully shaped wings that are connected at the center. Each of these wings is designed to maximize (or increase) lift on one side. What is lift? , you might ask. The easiest way to explain the idea of lift is to compare a boomerang wing to an airplane wing. If you look at the picture below, you will see that an airplane wing is curved along the top and flat along the bottom. This is the reason these massive machines can stay in the air: The air that goes over the wing as the plane flies has to move faster than the air that goes below the wing in order for them to move past the wing at the same

Judicial Branch Vs Executive Branch Separations of powers is a principle of the United States government, giving powers and responsibilities that are divided among the legislative branch, executive branch, and judicial branch. Checks and balances are certain powers that each branch of our federal government have to check on each other and make sure one branch isn t doing something against the Constitution. These balances between the branches ensure that no branch becomes too powerful. Preventing this means that all of the branches are equal and balanced and allows a fair federal government for the people. The branch that has the greatest amount of checks over the other branches is the legislative branch. They have the most checks over the other branches for many reasons. One reason is that this branch has the most people in it, combing both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Also, this branch is the most directly elected by the people and has people from every state. So, giving the branch that is the largest and is closest to the people is a good idea. ... On the other hand, the executive branch can also check back on the legislative by vetoing laws that the President thinks are unconstitutional. This memo is an application of some of the policy ideas Cass Sunstein has described in his book Simpler, to a proposed soda tax in Oakland California. The introduction of the tax, contained in Measure HH (as it appears on the ballot) has been met with stiff opposition by some members of the Oakland area while others have embraced the idea. Three ideas from Simpler will be tested in this California case. First of is a nudge. What is a nudge? According to Sunstein, nudges are approaches that influence decisions while preserving freedom of choice (Sunstein 2013, p.38). In other words, they are things that make one act or behave in a certain way, but your resolve to choose still lies within your power. It could be taxes or fines, according to Sunstein. This Oakland case satisfies the two main parts of nudges: approaches (one cent per ounce excise tax) and freedom of choice (shoppers still have the freedom to choose between sweetened and sugar free sodas). So, the city council, in order to get people to consume less sugar, would want to impose soda tax on the manufacturers (because they have the tendency of feeling the real effect in terms of cost) and not the consumers. Consequently, if the council members vote in favor of it, the authorities would have indirectly gotten its citizen to change behavior with respect to sugar intake, without directly telling them to reduce sugar intake because it has health consequences. They (the citizens) have been nudged

Therefore, the total lung capacity (the vital capacity volume plus the residual volume) is approximately 6000 milliliters. All of these volumes (except residual volume) can be easily measured using a spirometer. Basically, a spirometer is composed of an inverted bell in a water tank. A breathing tube is connected to the bell s interior. On the exterior of the inverted bell is attached a pen device that records respiratory volumes on paper. When one exhales into the breathing tube, the bell goes up and down with exhalation. Everything is calibrated so that respiratory volumes can be read directly from the paper record. The paper moves at a pre set speed past the recording pen so that volumes per unit time can be easily calculated. In addition to measuring the respiratory volumes introduced so far, the spirometer can also be used to perform pulmonary function tests. One such test is the forced vital capacity (FVC), or the amount of air that can be expelled completely and as rapidly as possible after taking in the deepest possible breath. Another test is the forced expiratory volume (FEV1), which is the percentage of vital capacity that is exhaled during a 1 sec period of the FVC test. This value is generally 75% to 85% of the vital capacity. In the following experiments you will be simulating spirometry and

Among the worst, children working at cotton mills was very harsh, dangerous, and terrible. In this essay, I will be explaining why working at the cotton mills was the worst kind of child labor in the British Industrial Revolution. Let s begin with the first two reasons. Firstly, working conditions were horrible at the cotton mills. The atmosphere was warm and dingy, and poor hygiene led to sickness and disease. Not to mention the poor conditions outside the cotton mills from the coal mine s smoke and other dangerous gases and chemicals. Secondly, children had injustice with long hours and very low pay, working twelve hours a day for a couple of pennies. If the communication between service and is hidden from the system, the dependency detection system will not be able to build the entire information flow path between service and service and may miss the dependency relationship. A dependency detection approach can be host based or network based, depending on the data source it uses (network traces or system logs). Network based systems are generally easier to deploy. A dependency detection approach can be application dependent or application independent. An application independent approach works correctly in the presence of unknown types of services. On the other hand, the application dependent approaches need readjustments or reimplementations for different types of services. A dependency detection approach may or may not provide a measure of confidence for detected dependencies. To have a confidence level for each dependency detection approach can help the administrators to decide and choose their most important dependencies based on the most reliable information. And finally, a dependency detection approach may or may not be susceptible to confusing correlation with causation. 1.2 Previous Work NSDMiner[] is a passive correlation based dependency detection system. In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a much smaller place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of identical fads and lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has given birth to homogenous consumer culture. Demonstrated not only by the expansion of multi national cooperations such as Apple and Starbucks but also by the indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see the identical steel, concrete and glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due to the easy exportation of concepts and architects, however not obligatory. Whilst advancing towards a modern society, architects have adapted this universal style of architecture that fails to represent the unique topography of different cities. Architects have the choice to either repeat the same building everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an encounter between ourselves and the local culture (Koolhaas, 2012). Take 5 has low brand recognition in comparison to other Hershey brands 2. Previously low promotional support for Take 5 may hinder revitalized IMC campaign 3. Top management not understanding the benefits of social media and its ability to track ROI. Opportunities 1. Increase brand recognition by associating with the Hershey name 2. Reach the lucrative 18 34 year old market 3. Take advantage of consumer preferences for sweet and salty combination of tastes Threats 1. Potential copycat products from key competitors 2. Consumers, especially younger consumers, becoming more health conscious Strengths Hershey s primary strength is its powerful, trustworthy brand image. Currently, Hershey is the market leader for the United States chocolate market with 44.3% market share, followed by Mars at 29.8%, for a combined 74.1 % of the market (Pogharian, 2013). • 45. Mercyhurst University Student Liability Study There is a liability factor that is associated with bringing teenagers onto the Mercyhurst University campus in order to show and teach them about higher education. It is important that all members that are going to be on the tour will be transported safely and properly with either the help of the YMCA or our group members. Mercyhurst Universityand our group that will be representing the university should be held responsible in providing accurate and motivational information to the group as a way of upholding the mercy core values we stand for and perpetuating an image that is appropriate to the institution. This project is going to involve us as a group walking around campus in which the participants and Mercyhurst University students could be subject to personal injuries, property losses, or damage in connection with the activity of the visit. It is important that the teenagers abide by all the rules and regulations of the University, behave in a respectful manner, and be attentive to the message we are trying to convey to them. Although it is important for the group to enjoy themselves while on campus, it is more important that they learn, make connections, and realize the importance of higher educationand its benefits to their own individual... • 46. Purple Needle Grass History Aside from the physical attributes along the hike, I also came across many forms of biological life. From bugs on the ground to the birds in the sky the place seemed steaming with wildlife. At the entrance there was an abundance of dry grass fields that led into the narrower trail ahead. The grass most commonly known as Purple Needle grass (Stipa Pulchra) covered most of the nearby land, the stalks were dry and tan in color (Calscape(b) 2017). Walking deeper into the forest the grass lands started to vanish and more greenery came into sight. A small bush caught my eye and I decided to take a picture, I noted the plants appearance in my notebook. The branches had five leaves in symmetrical order, 1 large leafat the end, 2 medium leaves at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2005). Along with plant life there were also considerable amounts of organisms that I spotted. Around the last stretch of the hike (10minutes left to the car) my friend who was walking in front of me stopped and gazed into the distance. I walked up to him as he pointed into a nearby brush. I couldn t tell what he was pointing at when suddenly two large eyes popped out behind the leaves. The creature s sharp ears pointed directly towards us as we both stood in silence. What looks like a large house cat the creature sat and stared at us for a good 20 seconds. Moments later we hear a rustle of leaves nearby, a similar (yet smaller) feline appears and proceeds towards the other cat and they both walk off into the forest. Bobcats (Lynx rufus) usually pose no real threat and most of the time avoid human contact, supported in my case as they became aware of our presence and started to head the opposite direction (A Z Animals, Nov 2008). Throughout the exploration I ve come to realize that some of my pre visit research didn t quite match up to the species I saw, this could be because of seasonal patterns or just random dispersal of certain species and
