Three Subtests
Another type of abuse is sexual abuse. Hudson et al. (1993) suggested that sex offenders have general
shortcomings in functions of their emotions. They established that rapists and pedophiles are
substantially not as sensitive to the perception of emotions displayed by others, when compared to
domestic abuse offenders. In the study conducted by Puglia, Stough, Carter, and Joseph (2005), they
chose 19 imprisoned sex offenders, who were chosen from Her Majesty s Prison and Ararat, 18
detained non sex offending prisoners from HM Prison Ararat and Her Majesty s Prison Langi Kal Ka,
and 19 control participants without criminal history and who were not connected to any crime. The
individuals from the control group were from Australia. To conduct ... Show more content on

The participants were asked to do three subtests from the MSCEIT, which consisted of 35 items. The
first subtest is the perception branch, in which the subjects were to express, on a five point scale, the
emotion that is being presented in different photographs such as faces, landscapes, or an abstract
design. The second subtest is the assimilation branch. In this subtest, the participants were asked to
associate words to a given emotion and indicate the similarities of the word and the emotions; An
example is, cold, blue, sweet. The last subtest is the management branch. In this subtest, the subjects
were asked to indicate the effectiveness of an action would be in managing their internal emotions.
With this method, it is revealed that the results of the sex offenders are not that significantly different
in comparison to the control group. As a way of contrast, these findings did not yield the same
conclusion that Hudson et al., (1993) suggested. The results from the MSCEIT assessment did not
display the deficit of emotional function of sexual offenders. Furthermore, this study helps support the
suggestion that the emotional deficiency the sexual offenders have are more likely to be specific to the
sexual offences they have committed (Fernandez et al.,

An American Artist And Member Of The Hudson River School
Albert Bierstadt (1830 1902) was an American artist and member of the Hudson River School. He was
one of the first of the Hudson River Artist s to paint beyond New York and see the unexplored west.
Bierstadt s paintings focused more upon the sublime in nature. His painting titled Indian Summer
Hudson River was completed in 1861. It is oil on canvas painting, which measures twenty four inches
in height by forty one inches wide. One looks out across a secluded section of the Hudson River. It is
late afternoon, and the sun is beginning its decent. The sun is almost blinding; its rays glistening and
reflecting upon the river turning its blues to greens. The sky is clear with the exception of a few
scattered clouds, which begin to absorb the gold and reds of the setting sun, giving an almost hazy
effect to the end of this Indian summer day. On the far side of the river, a child helps his father pull a
small boat onto the bank, as a small group of cattle makes their way across from the bank opposite
them. The cattle move slowly and intently across the water, drinking as they walk, enjoying the last
moments of the day as they continue toward the father and son. Two additional cows lounge on the
cool earth beneath the trees whose branches are scattered with the crimson and yellow orange colors
of early evening and that of fall. In analyzing Bierstadt s Indian Summer Hudson River , the painting
would be defined as an example of representational artwork. Bierstadt s painting

Polynesia Microorganisms
Polynesia Micronesia Ecosystems are a place where organisms can interact with their environment
and other organisms in the community. So it makes sense just to say ecology is a branch of biology
that deals with the relationships of organisms interacting with their environment and other organisms.
Ecosystems have many flora and fauna that need to live by the means of energy. We are talking about
sun: the sun is the main source of energy because it starts many processes like photosynthesis, the
greenhouse effect, and other cycles. One is the carbon, which in a simple way is the movement of
carbon through respiration, photosynthesis, fossil fuel emissions, and animal waste products.
Following this is the nitrogen, which is taking the nitrogen

Lord Of The Flies Allusion Analysis
Human has the humanity which is a combined of heart, peace, care, help, and love. And thinking make
us different from other living organelles, thinking a head of what would happen before do anything.
Human is a curious person but there are some smarter than others because they understand the
problem and try to find a solutions from different point of views. But what can stop us... what can
make us hate others or even killing each other in direct or undirect ways .
Lord of the Flies allusion to many things that help us to understand the story like the Garden of Eden.
The garden was similar to the island. Ralph said, This is our island. It s a good island. Until the
grownups come to fetch us, we ll have fun (Golding 35). At the beginning of the book, the boys had to
discover the island to know it, and some of them were naked because they were innocent and didn t
know much as an adult person. They didn t know if this is right or wrong. Adam and Eve knew
nothing about life, garden, themselves, and others. They had to discover and learn things. It would be
easier to learn the right things from the beginning, because it will reduce the consequences for the
person and society. In addition, Jack said, I ought to be chief, (Golding 20). Jack was similar to Eve
because she persuaded Adam to eat from the tree and Jack persuaded the kids to follow him and
supported him as a leader. They did it because the desire made them as a blind person who pretended

The Federal Reserve And Expansionary Monetary Policy
When there are problems in the United States economy, whom do the people turn to? The most
obvious answer is the government. The federal government is given the responsibility of maintaining a
stable economy. When the economy is not stable, like during a recession, the American people turn the
government and demand that they fix whatever problem is occurring. The government can handle the
economy in a recessionary period in one of two ways: expansionary fiscal policy or expansionary
monetary policy. The sector of the government that handles the economy using these policies in a
recession is the Federal Reserve. The best course of action to get the United States out of a recession is
to use expansionary monetary policy.
In order to properly explain the expansionary economic policies that the federal government engages
in, it is important to understand the vocabulary being used. The Federal Reserve Bank, commonly
referred to as the Fed, is the central bank of the United States (Arnold, 2014). According to Steven
Pressman (2013), the Federal Reserve is the institution in which the federal government and private
banks do their banking. The central Federal Reserve banks are responsible for monitoring banks and
ensuring they remain solvent. They also control interest rates and thus borrowing costs for consumers
and business firms. This, in turn, affects unemployment and inflation, giving the Federal Reserve
substantial control over the U.S. economy. Expansionary fiscal policy

Id, Ego, And Superego In The Lady With The Pet Dog
In Joyce Oates short story The Lady with the Pet Dog, the main character, Anna, represents the Id,
Ego, and Superego characteristics defined by Sigmund Freud. Anna is facing her morals (Superego)
and feelings (Id), being confined to a marriage and detesting her affair. Because Anna is forced to
balance a failing marriage, and loving her husband, while also loving a man who s not her husband,
and not loving him because she can t, builds stress inside her and leads to rash desires and actions.
Anna displays Freud s Id characteristics throughout, the things she wants most are life and love. Anna
is in the middle of a dysfunctional marriage and starts an affair with another man. Her Id psyche is
prevalent when her husband says that he loves her, but she thinks about her lover saying ...if betraying
him (her husband) it would give her life a center (Oates 239). Anna s unconscious immature Id psyche
thinks that the only way for her to have a purpose in life is to be with her lover, only looking for
pleasure and not thinking about the consequences (McLeod). The Id is overlooking the common logic,
she is married and her lover is married too, which is morally wrong, overriding the Superego. Anna s
Id can be compared to that of a child s, like a kid at the store who asks his mom for candy, and when
she says no he decides to steal the candy. In contrast, Anna says ....of course she was married,
permanently married (Oates 246). Anna still can t make up her mind about her

Holden Caulfield Psychoanalysis
The human mind is a complicated paradox, which has been trying to be deciphered by scientists,
psychiatrists, philosophers and many other professionals since the dawn of civilization. The
psychoanalytic theory was laid out by Sigmund Freud, which mainly focuses on various psychological
types and principles present within different works of literature. (Sousa) The novel, The Catcher in the
Rye by J.D. Salinger can be analyzed from a psychoanalytic critical perspective as various
subconscious human actions are portrayed through the protagonist of the story. The book reveals how
the narrator and the main character, Holden Caulfield goes through different phases of emotional
states in order to discover the inevitable transition period between childhood ... Show more content on

Throughout the entire novel, Holden searches for the simplicity of childhood in the adult world.
Holden wants to hold on to this innocence and never wants to grow up. He wants to stop the time, so
that children do not have to grow up. In his world full of phonies , he considers Phoebe as a place of
mental shelter, who symbolizes the purity of childhood. Phoebe helps him realize the truth of life,
which is that everyone has to go through the transition period and experience the reality of life.
Ultimately, Holden understands that he cannot protect all the children, which is demonstrated in his
thoughts, The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring [which symbolizes adulthood],
you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it it s bad if you say
anything to them. (Salinger, 211) Therefore, Holden uses regression as another defense mechanism
because he denies leaving behind his old memories and holds on to his values of the purity of

Words That Describes Me Research Paper
Unique, funny, quirky, loving, and weird. These are just some words that describes me! I am a funny,
loving 12 year old 7th grader that has many passions including spending quality family time, playing
sports, going out into nature, and trying to make a school team.
When I am feeling down, just taking a walk into nature brings me to my happy place. The fresh air
that gently brushes my face. Or going on a hike listening to the animal s calls. Even just looking
around at the scenery. Mankind s love for nature has always been a great mystery. Some might say it

the winning basket. Basketball has always had this interesting spark, like when you get married and
you know he s the one. Well, basketball is the one for me. Basketball you get work as a team, get good
exercise, and have fun while doing it. When I was little I had always showed an interest for sports, but
as I progressed in the years my love for sports went to basketball. Snowboarding is by far my favorite
winter activity. Snowboarding down the mountains, getting off the lift, getting a cool board, and
having comfy boots. These are all what come in the package when you sign up for snowboarding.
When I was little my family and I skied. As they went from okay to amazing, I went from okay to
terrible. I fell behind and started to struggle. While they went down green and blue slopes, I would go
down the bunny slopes with my mom. Sometimes I would go down green, but it was hard for me.

love for skii got worse. I did

Compare And Contrast Maya Angelu And Alice Walker
Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two amazing poets. Both writers have written about their
childhood experience. These women might be close to a generation apart in age. However, there still
share a lot of similarities in their work. You can compare and contrast their work because they both
have experienced a tragedy at a young age that has made them a better and stronger woman.
At a young age of eight years old, the unthinkable happened to these two women. Maya Angelou was
raped and Alice Walker lost her sight in one of her eyes. Both women see their experiences as a lesson
to be learned and to make them a better person in the long run. In Search of Our Mothers Gardens, a
book written by Ms. Walker; she shares with her audience her traumatic experience. Ms. Angelou
shares her traumatic experience in her autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Although
both women wrote about their traumatic experience, it appears the women have different reasons for
sharing they have experienced at a young age.
Alice Walker talks about her past as if it is something she is currently experiencing. Her choice of
words creates an emotion that she gets to share with the people reading her essay.
Maya Angelou chose to share her experience as if she is having a conversation with her audience. Her
choice of words lets her audience know that she has moved on and her past no longer has a hold on
her. Both women persuade their readers to have hope no matter how dark they may think a

Essay on It244 Access Control
1. Access Control Policy
Due in Week Seven: Outline the Access Control Policy. Describe how access control methodologies
work to secure information systems
1.1. Authentication
Describe how and why authentication credentials are used to identify and control access to files,
screens, and systems. Include a discussion of the principles of authentication such as passwords,
multifactor authentication, biometrics, and single sign on.
Authentication credentials are used to control access to sensitive data or systems by making it hard for
people to get into the system who shouldn t have access. Passwords and usernames are a good start
because if they are kept secure, they are generally very hard to bypass. If they are bypassed by some

Whoever has the responsibility to keep the data safe is probably the one responsible for dictating
access.
1.2.2. Mandatory access control
Describe how and why mandatory access control will be used.
Mandatory access is used to authenticate actions between a subject and an object. In order for a
subject to access an object it must pass a set of authentication rules.
1.2.3. Role based access control
Describe how and why role based access control will be used.
RBAC is a very efficient way to control access to resources. This is because access is granted to select
roles based on what the needs each role has to complete its job. Then, the person or program is
assigned to the role and thus will only be granted the access granted to the role they are assigned.
1.3. Remote access
Describe the policies for remote user access and authentication via dial in user services and Virtual
Private Networks (VPN)
The policies for remote access, authentication via dial in user services, and VPN s has to be more strict
than with general authentication and access within the work place. While there are ways for a hacker
to get into the system while following the usual work place policies, it would probably be much easier
to get in by one of these methods. When accessing resources remotely it is important to have added
authentication methods such as security questions or possibly some kind of portable biometric device
which can scan a part of the user and then send

Analysis of Sean Covey´s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective...
Effective Habits in Teens Lives Being a teenager can be challenging sometimes. Not many teens can
easily cope with the pressure that comes from school, family, and friends. The author Sean Covey
published The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens as a helpful book for teens that face many
uncertainties during the emotional stage of growing up and getting ready to become adults someday.
Since Covey managed to capture the readers heart with many relatable short stories along with deep
insights, this engaging book has become widely popular among teens as well as adults who influence
young people. In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Sean Covey does not only discuss the
essential principles to deal with daily situations, he also provides guidance on how to succeed in life
by being proactive, defining goals, and making priorities. In the first chapter, one of the many steps to
live a productive and successful life is being proactive. Proactive people think carefully before making
any major or minor decisions, and most importantly, they take responsibilities for their behaviors.
They often come to the conclusion of their choices based on values and principles instead of impulses
or circumstances. They remain calm under situations that many find easy to break down because of
peer pressure. Those who are proactive in their lives cannot control the situation; however, they can
control what to do with it rather than giving in. Proactive people do not just want something; they

Evaluation of Books on String Theory

Three different methods books; Muller Rusch String Method, Action with Strings, and Essential
Elements for strings, revealed three very different approaches to learning. The influence of time is
greatly noticeable in comparing and contrasting these three approaches. Essential Elements for Strings
was published in 1994 and the other two books in the 1960 s. After many years of studying education
the approach to teaching students how to play an instrument has greatly improved. The increased
knowledge in educational psychology is evident through comparing Essential Elements for Strings to
the other two. The student learns best through a step by step guide to this new endeavor. The student ...

sitting posture. Technical problems are not introduced logically. Directions are given simply and

compared to the first methods book introduced but also room for much needed changes such as logical

In Essential Elements for Strings by Allen, Gillespie, and Hayes, instructions are clear and logical.
The parts of the instrument and bow are introduced and care of the instrument is defined clearly. The
book introduces skills with directions and illustrations that help build up to effectively playing the
instrument. Basic music vocabulary is introduced and the student is instructed to play pizzicato on the
open strings. Learning to play pizzicato is much more effective than immediately playing with the
bow as in the other two books. The note names are inscribed in the note heads to help the student
associate the location of the notes on the staff as well as learn the names. The wonderful finger pattern
is then introduced to teach E, F#, and G on the D string. The pattern is illustrated as well as described.
The book then uses an effective method of holding the bow by practicing on a pencil with illustrations
and clear instructions. Different exercises help to hold the bow

Cultural Factors In The Sociocultural Environment
There are many things in life that influence our development in some shape or form. Whether in a
positive or negative way, influence is something that surrounds us, our children and family and may
determine the way we develop. We are all prone to influences in our environment. Although there are
many factors that influence us, one specific example are the sociocultural factors we are surrounded
by in our everyday lives. This paper will be discussing the strengths and weaknesses in the
sociocultural environment that influence both children and families.
Growing up in dangerous neighborhoods, having neglectful parents, or simply going through natural
disasters are a few negative ways sociocultural factors may influence the way children and families
develop. There are many people living in safe neighborhoods but there is also a decent amount of
families who are living in very dangerous areas. There are areas in this city where crime is rarely ever
seen, but there are also many areas where crime is seen on a daily basis and many families are going
through that and have to either see it or live through it. This impacts a child a whole lot because they
grow up hearing about people getting shot, people drug dealing, being addicted to alcohol and a
variety of negative lifestyles children and families should not have to live through. Sadly, sometimes
in between all this going on, children grow up having parents that may always be working or worse,
be criminals. The parents

Complementarian Versus Egalitarian Theology
Complementarian vs. Egalitarian Theology and Beliefs
Christian views, attitudes and beliefs about gender have always varied with some ideas evolving with
society and others set in tradition, never to change. While some see gender difference as a feminist
issue, others see it as a role requirement set by God. Of course, there are extremists on both sides of
this argument, as well as inter lapping beliefs, but gender issues are still debated by Biblical scholars

This view can also be referred to as biblical equality. Egalitarians feel that Bible teaches Christians
equality both genders within all racial and ethnic groups, economic classes, and age groups based on
the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Egalitarian theology interprets scripture with the inference that the teachings of Jesus Christ, through
the Apostle Paul, ended gender specific roles for both genders with regards to the church, ministry and
in marriage. This view explains that God calls each of us to roles within the church with no regard to
race, gender or class. Egalitarians feel that each person should have equal responsibility to use their
talents to follow their calling in order to glorify God, without limitations or rights that are based on
gender. Under this theology, leadership or control in the Church or in the home should not be based on
gender or be male dominated. Egalitarian theory stresses the importance of the Bible teaching
individuals the equality of both genders in the creation and redemption. Nevertheless, in the Lord

Compare how the poets present love in Nettles and in one other poem from the Relationships cluster.
In Nettles , Vernon the relationship shown is the relationship that is shared between a father and his
young 3 year old son who had fallen into a bed of stinging nettles. In The Manhunt , the poem Simon
Armitage writes about the relationship that is shared between a wife and her husband who is an
injured soldier who has just returned home from war. Both of these poets write about and explore the
relationships and the sympathetic feeling that is felt by both the narrator of the poem (The father for

In Nettles , after the accident with his son falling in the bed of nettles, the father slashed in fury and
acted quickly at the nettles to try and get rid of them to prevent his son from being hurt again.
However, the father knows that this attempt to get rid of the bed of nettles is pointless as the bed of
nettles will only grow back again in the future. This is understandable as it shows that every parent
wants to prevent their child from being hurt in any way possible, and will do anything to prevent it.
This also helps for the reader to become more involved with the poems, the characters and the
characters emotions and feelings and it helps for the reader to become more sympathetic towards the
characters. In The Manhunt , it talks about the effects of war and what happens to soldier s after war
on real people and their real relationships. The pain of emotion after war is often worse than pain that
is physical and this is backed up in Nettles , for example unexploded mine , buried deep in his mind .
The imagery of the mine sounds very dangerous and like it could go off any minute and explode, and
makes the poem more realistic and visual to the reader. It also shows the reader that the mental state
that the soldier is in right now is very unstable. In Nettles , Vernon Scannell writes about a topic that
affects a larger number of people in the world and this is the

What Is America A New Identity
America, a New Identity America is not becoming a universal nation. However, it is in the process of
redefining the identity of what an American is. The fault for this is widespread growth of certain
ethnic groups caused by immigration, paired with technology that allows for unprecedented
connectivity. Consequently, this allows minority groups to rapidly spread their culture and ideas
throughout the country and influence the majorities like never before. Nowhere is this more apparent
than in pop culture; where Bollywood, Korean dramas, and Japanese animation have had a significant
impact on the tastes of America as a whole.
The racial identity of America is shifting to represent a more mixed standard of our national color.

The Gempei War Analysis
Liam Brownlie Egan F Block 3/29/2018 The Gempei War; a battle of military might, or a political
feud? Word Count: 1544 Part I: Introduction The 1180 through 1185 Gempei War between the
Japanese Taira and Minamoto clans is often pointed to as an example of the Japanese warrior ethic.
The Heike Monogatari traditionally would argue that this is true, however, the reality of the 12th
century conflict paints a much different story. Analysis of the war shows that the deciding factors of
the war were not necessarily the military strength of the Minamoto, but instead it was a brilliant and
lucky political chess game played by Minamoto Yoritomo. Yoritomo was able to develop strategic
alliances with local lords across eastern Japan and benefited from ... Show more content on

The Imperial Court neglected the many communities and prefectures that make up Japan. This led to
many local lords taking matters into their own hands, and establishing virtually autonomous kingdoms
each fighting each other for power. When the Gempei War broke out in 1180 Yoritomo pounced on the
opportunity to gain overwhelming support. With the establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate,
Yoritomo designed a system that would allocate authority to local military leaders that would, in turn,
remain loyal to the Shogun. During the Gempei War, Yoritomo offered these positions to military lords
across eastern Japan. With this strategy, Yoritomo was able to amass a force that outnumbered that of
the Taira. This quote addresses the importance of this fact, the war s larger significance lay in
Yoritomo s rechanneling of hostility among provincial warriors. By promising them land and jobs
when he won, Yoritomo assured the loyalty of warriors who wanted to topple their regional rivals,
(Selinger,4). Had Yoritomo not appealed to these lords, the Taira would have been able to crush his

Perseverance Book Report
This year, I came across a book titled Perseverance! The Story of Thomas Alva Edison (Murray,
1997). This book is a short timeline of Thomas Edison that highlights his many achievements along
with his many failures in his pursuit of accomplishment. I read this to my students in hopes they
would recognize the importance of having the courage to take a risk and the resilience to keep trying.
My students loved this book and we referred back to it throughout the year. In combination with a
growth mindset, I encouraged them to take risk, even though it might result in failure, and learn how
to persevere. I agree that there is a decline in the measure of grit in today s classroom, but also

I will admit this is something I have expressed my opinion about as well. My kids are very involved in
sports, especially competitive baseball. I have mixed feelings about this. When competing in a
tournament, there are no participation medals or such thing as third place. I have two boys, both with
different levels of self confidence, and see not only the difference in their attitude, but also in how I
respond to their disappointments. Is this fair? I am not sure it is, but in one child I am still developing
resilience and determination, and in the other I am further building on his desire to achieve. I have
raised them both with the same values and have supported their self worth the same, however, where
one is lacking in courage and resilience, the other has endurance and drive. My eldest boy is not
confident and is afraid of failure. I often add yet when encouraging him to try again. He is prone to
give up and assume there is no chance of success. My youngest son is determined, confident, and
driven. I find myself using the term next time quite often and not really focusing on the individual
aspect. This begs to question, how is grit cultivated? As discussed in our text, the affective domain
represents a time for emotional development and coping strategies (Kostelnik, Soderman, Whiren,
Rupiper, 2015). During this time, it is essential that teachers are able to recognize a child s emotions,
help to develop resilience, and promote self worth. Providing an environment where children feel safe

Literature Review On The Phonics

The Debate
There are a million adults who cannot read, one in six Londoners is functionally illiterate and people
who cannot read or write are excluded from opportunities and may eventually become alienated and
turn to crime (Johnson 2010, cited by Gross 2010). Gross (2010) expresses her concern and believes it
is not where the children live, it is how they were taught to read and how they were properly
motivated to learn to read. She endorses the synthetic systematic phonics approach as opposed to that
of the whole word approach and believes we must place our focus on reading as it is indispensable.
Phonics advocates have been arguing that in order for children to learn to read, they need to have an
explicit instruction in the rules of printed text in order to read properly. The phonics approach has been
described as bottom up as it teaches the children to decode text and then the meaning and
understanding will follow while the whole word approach is described as top down, as the children
depend on the pictures within the book, form hypothesis and make predictions of the words with the
text of the book being read (Wren, 2003).
Gross (2010) state that children should systematically be taught to read through phonics and not by
memorising whole words ; by the late 1970 s teachers were no longer fond of that approach as it was
not working because children were still struggling to read, it was dull and repetitive and new words

Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness
In a biblical manner, forgiveness roughly translates to letting go . Instead of holding a grudge to the
offender, we should give them pardon. In Luke 11:4, we are given the passage of: And forgive us our
sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver
us from evil. Jesus used an example of this when comparing a person seeking repayment from a debt
found in Matthew 18:23 35. Likewise, the act of forgiving does not come easy. In order to begin the
journey of forgiveness, one should first let go of any resentment towards the particular person or
situation that is causing destress. Once the resentment is gone, one can attempt to abandon the notion
of being rewarded for their loss whether financial, personal, or something else. Forgiveness also
entails benefits that can improve health and increase our progress towards living a wholesome
Christian life. Proverbs 14:30 tells us that a heart with a peace and calmness in it gives life to the body
but one with jealousy and bitterness leads to wrong desires similar to rotting bones. However, the
greatest part to forgiving others is to exemplify how God forgave us for our own sins. In order to be
forgiven by God, we must forgive people for their sins. If we fail to do this though, God will not
forgive us for our sins (Matthew 6:14 15). 2 Peter 1:10 dictates that Christians should be more eager in
making their calling and election since doing these makes sure that we will never fail. Our calling is
God s salvation for us while our election is God picking us to be saved. Since God called and elected
on us from his own glory and goodness, we must serve as examples to others by pursuing Godly
virtues while actively living in a Christian lifestyle. Numerous people struggle in letting go of their
respective past and carry on their baggage into their future. Not only does this prevent them from
growing, it prevents them from achieving a happy life. As we interact with people similar to this, we
can show them that they too can be resolved from their past issues.
Personally, I forgive pretty easily as I think holding grudges is a waste of time and does not
accomplish anything positive. However, I did have a hard time

Identify And Explain The Factors That Cause Changes In...
The three factors that caused Galetown to have more severe rainstrorms this summer than in previous
years are stronger winds, higher temperature and the new lake. First of all, stronger winds push the air
parcels (An amount of air that moves as a unit) higher up in the troposphere. The higher the air parcel
is in the troposphere, the colder it is. This will cause a greater energy transfer from the parcel to the
surrounding air allowing them to become the same temperature and having condensation occurs. This
will soon fall out as rain. In the chart, it tells us that in storms 3 and 4 that all factors are the same
before the storm such as the surface water (high) and the temperatures are close enough to not make a
significant difference. But the wind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the air parcel rises in the troposphere, the more energy transfer. The reason why the energy
transfers is because the water vapor must have an equivalent temp to the surrounding air. More energy
causes it to have more evaporation transferring more water vapor to the surrounding air. As the energy
transfer occurs, the water vapor gets through condensation and turns to liquid water. The higher the
parcel gets, the colder it is in the surrounding air which causes the water to condense and come out as
rain. This is important because when the temperature of the air parcel is higher, it will rise higher in
the troposphere and the higher the cloud is in the troposphere, the more rain that will fall. Also, the
modeling tool tells us that storms 2 and 3 had all the same factors ( water vapor, troposphere
temperature and surface water) but, the parcel temperature, was higher in storm 3 which caused it to
have more rain. Lastly, the reason why the weather has been acting up is the new lake. The lake is
causing more evaporation (the process by which a liquid changes into a gas). This is important
because the more evaporation there is, the more condensation (the process by which a gas changes

Edward Abbey s Eco-Defense

Ancient redwood trees are enormous. They tower nearly three hundred feet into the sky, making men
look like ants as they scurry around their massive trunks. The redwood forest also has its own
ecosystem full of unique life. The earth is beautifully aged and teaming with magnificent life. Perhaps,
just maybe, saving our home, our natural resources, and the last remaining ancient giant redwoods is
worth breaking the law and using less than flattering tactics. A mind provoking, nonfiction piece of
literature, by Edward Abbey, called Eco Defense writes about the constant looting of the entire earth,
which could lead to the death of our world, and ultimately, ourselves. Through the use of bulldozers,
chainsaws, and dynamite, we as humans, are destroying our very home. Abbey poses the question, do
you have the right to defend your home if someone beats your door down with an axe and brutalizes
your family? He answers, yes, you have that right and obligation to protect yourself and your family.
Therefore, we have the right, and the duty, to defend our home, earth, from certain death and

Lundgaard et al. (2015) also recognized the conflicting hypotheses in cerebral metabolism and that
until this uncertainty is removed, the reliability of neuroimaging data interpretations is reduced. To
address this problem, they created a near infrared 2 deoxyglucose probe (2DG IR) and used two
photon microscopy to assess whether it is neurons or astrocytes which are taking up more glucose
during neuronal activation. If the ANLS hypothesis is correct, astrocytes should be observed taking up
more glucose. Whereas, if the parsimonious hypothesis is correct, glucose uptake should be greater in
neurons. First, they assessed their 2DG IR probe by comparing it to 14C glucose and 14C 2

The analysis performed was ex vivo; results showed neurons in multiple brain regions, including CA1,
took up more 2DG IR than astrocytes. Next, to determine if anaesthesia affects cerebral metabolism,
2DG IR uptake in neurons and astrocytes of GLT1 eGFP reporter mice was quantitatively analyzed
after ketamine/xylazine administration. Anaesthesia decreased glucose uptake in neurons more so than
astrocytes. Next, Lundgaard et al. (2015) introduced the activity dependent component to their study
by unilaterally stimulating (3 Hz) the whiskers of mice and observing 2DG IR uptake and neuronal
activation. Local field potentials were measured in the contralateral barrel cortex during whisker
stimulation to ensure neurons were activated; results confirmed neuronal activation occurred. Further,
2DG IR uptake was higher in contralateral barrel cortex, compared to ipsilateral. Specifically, uptake
in contralateral neurons was significantly increased, whereas, astrocytic uptake was not statistically
significant between the two hemispheres. Therefore, stimulation of the sensory system caused
activated neurons to take up glucose to a greater extent than surrounding astrocytes. Finally,
Lundgaard et al. (2015) used fluorescence activated cell sorting to separate neurons and astrocytes,
and then proceeded to use quantitative polymerase chain reaction to analyze gene expression. Since

Essay on Gender in Hawthorne’s Blithedale Romance
Gender in Hawthorne s Blithedale Romance
The Blithedale Romance, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a story of a twisted utopia. This perfect
world is twisted in that the roles of gender have a traditional utopian representation, only with a more
contemporary take. Of course, this is interesting because this book was written and published in the
19th century when such ideas were beginning to establish a form for the genre of writing. Hawthorne
combines fantasy, philosophy, mystery, gothic, and even [what would be called today] science fiction.
This novel illustrates the early break from even fresh ideas. The writing style allows for the
genderizing degenderizing affect as well as nature of the self.

Zenobia, is probably the most least genderized character of the novel, that is, until the end.
Throughout most of the novel, she is seen as very masculine (in comparison to traditional roles that is)
yet very feminine at the same time. She has a mystical illusion about her yet seems very sensible in
the ways of life. However, by the end of the novel, Hawthorne writes her character to be very
manipulative and weak, for she dies of grief. On the other hand, the other female character, Priscilla,
seems to hold the same mystical aura about her, yet she is the is the typical female character. She is
feminine in her daily activities; she prances around with a constant smile and seems naive about the
world. She is the victim of other s doings. The hierarchy of the sexes is blatantly obvious in that it
favors the male and holds the male ideals perfectly.
Nature was a main idea in the

The Legal System Of Law
Marquez Martinez English 12 Mrs. Wallace 2/8/15 Law Many people know their own legal rights as
citizens, but how many actually know what the law is and what it means to us? What is its importance
to our well being? What kind of impacts does it have on society and what impacts does society have
on the law? All these questions add up to the most important and broad question, what is the law? The
legal system is a system that interprets and enforces the law; a system of rules that a particular country
or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and may be enforced by the
imposition of penalties. It is what keeps the peace among societies, nations, and individuals
concerning matters such as fairness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there are countless subjects pertaining to the law, its separated into the two most common
areas: civil and criminal. Criminal law is when an individual or group of individuals that has
committed an act that can be considered harmful to society and/or individuals. If proven guilty of a
said act, they can be imprisoned or fined depending on its severity. Common cases involving criminal
law are theft, vandalism, white collar crime or cases with more severity such as murder and assault.
For example, if one is convicted for selling illegal drugs on the street or stealing a car and that
individual is found guilty for that crime, they will be punished accordingly. The initial fine amount or
sentencing is predetermined accordingly by the state or federal laws and constitution, then decided by
the grand just, then enforced and solidified by the judge. Civil law usually deals with money and the
settling of lawsuits between organizations or individuals seeking compensation and satisfaction to the
winning party. Subject matters that often deal with civil law are entitlement of real and personal
property, financial security, compensation if ones property is harmed in any way and enforcing
regulations on businesses and corporations. For example, if an insurance company refuses to pay for
damages on an insurer s vehicle, the insurer could file a lawsuit against the company

How The Public Opinion Affects, Shapes, And Provides...
Privatizing Sand Castles
Presented by:
Eliane Fahed

Abstract:
Absences of public spaces affect people except who jump from 5 stars hotels to 5 stars resorts.
Unfortunately, the majority of Lebanon s beaches are being transferred from public to private.
Because this privatization influenced low and medium income people, activists acted toward it so
government took measures but institutions barely amend it.
This paper will tackle how the public opinion affects, shapes, and provides solutions.

Cultures and climates differs all over the world, but people are the same. They will gather in public if
u give them a good place to do it. Jan Gehl.
Beaches are public spaces that gathered people to swim, splash the waves, watch, and surf. It is the
place where individuals from all social status meet, while it is being privatized for economic purpose.
Unfortunately, the majority cannot even afford the entrance fees, while public beaches became
countable and away from the city. So how public opinion is dealing with privatizing public beaches?
Do you remember Tam Tam beach located at Byblos seashore with free entrance? It is now only a
memory;

Essay on The Story of an Hour
The Story of an Hour The story of the hour is, to me, an interesting short story of the insight into the
life thoughts of a woman struggling with a life that is proper and sociably acceptable and her own
desires. Upon reading the opening passage Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart
trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband s death. (1)
The reader, in this case I, would understand quickly that the main character of the story, Mrs. Mallard,
must be treated with tenderness. We also learn that grave news is coming her way in a most careful
manner. Reading further the actions of the main character would show shock, confusion, surprise, and
other anxiety of a life without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The line in question is She said it over and over under her breath: Free, Free, Free! (11) It was at this
point I realized that the shock was not from grief but from a desire come to fruition, a thought that had
been held in fancy thought now finally true for the main character. I then had to reroute my thoughts
and reread what I had already and reassess my earlier thoughts. That the tears shed may not have been
from love lost, but from dreams fulfilled in thunderous joy. Shock of sudden freedom from what
would have been socially unacceptable of leaving her husband, was now her shield, her grief at the
sudden loss her weapon to face the world a single woman. The new information I had read conflicted
strongly with the preceding directional notion. Transforming what would have been a tragic short
story of a woman who suffered loss and abandoned hope for life, into a story of elation for a woman
suffering shackles on her life. While others around her feared for her suffering misery, behind a locked
door silent rejoice was being had of how to maintain composure as a mourning widow instead of a
joyful widow which was illustrated in this line, Free! Body and soul free! she kept whispering (16) I
paused here once more to think of how possibly the story could turn once more, that the hopes of the
main character would be dashed to thousands of pieces with a truth that the husband was not dead as
was suspected. When I began reading

Measuring World Development Essay
Measuring World Development
Development is a complex economic, social and political phenomenon. There are a range of simple
and composite indicators used to measure development. There are many definitions of development,
perhaps the most used is;
Development refers to a number of characteristics such as demographic change, economic growth, an
increase in the case of resources, modernisation, higher levels of technology and political freedom.
Indicators of development are put into four sectors: Economic, Social, Political and environmental.
These factors can be broken down into two groups, simple and composite. Such simple indictors
would be birth rate, death rate and GNP. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types of countries are not necessarily not developed , they just have different customs, cultural
differences or they could be nomadic (farming based) or an indigenous population, as described
above.
Maps of the globe are produced to show levels of world development based on three key features;
wealth, social advantage and deprivation. An imaginary line can be seen around the world which
separates the developed countries and the non developed countries. This line is called the Brandt line.
It is a modern day method of measuring development. It basically separates countries based on how
economically stable a country is, how technologically advanced it is, how democratic and how
modern a country is. The line shows most developed countries to the north and west, whereas the least
developed countries to the south and east. As with every theory, there are exceptions. These being
Australia and New Zealand, which are classed as developed countries.
Other indicators of development that are being used today are the PQLI, which is the physical quality
of life index. Also the IHSI, which is the International Human Suffering Index. The PQLI is a
quantitative measure of development and can be calculated by taking the average of three variables.
These are life expectancy, literacy rates,

They established that rapists and pedophiles are substantially not as sensitive to the perception of emotions displayed by others, when compared to domestic abuse offenders. In the study conducted by Puglia, Stough, Carter, and Joseph (2005), they chose 19 imprisoned sex offenders, who were chosen from Her Majesty s Prison and Ararat, 18 detained non sex offending prisoners from HM Prison Ararat and Her Majesty s Prison Langi Kal Ka, and 19 control participants without criminal history and who were not connected to any crime. The second subtest is the assimilation branch. In this subtest, the participants were asked to associate words to a given emotion and indicate the similarities of the word and the emotions; An example is, cold, blue, sweet. The last subtest is the management branch. In this subtest, the subjects were asked to indicate the effectiveness of an action would be in managing their internal emotions. With this method, it is revealed that the results of the sex offenders are not that significantly different in comparison to the control group. As a way of contrast, these findings did not yield the same conclusion that Hudson et al., (1993) suggested. The results from the MSCEIT assessment did not display the deficit of emotional function of sexual offenders. • 3. An American Artist And Member Of The Hudson River School Albert Bierstadt (1830 1902) was an American artist and member of the Hudson River School. He was one of the first of the Hudson River Artist s to paint beyond New York and see the unexplored west. Bierstadt s paintings focused more upon the sublime in nature. His painting titled Indian Summer Hudson River was completed in 1861. It is oil on canvas painting, which measures twenty four inches in height by forty one inches wide. One looks out across a secluded section of the Hudson River. It is late afternoon, and the sun is beginning its decent. The sun is almost blinding; its rays glistening and reflecting upon the river turning its blues to greens. The sky is clear with the exception of a few scattered clouds, which begin to absorb the gold and reds of the setting sun, giving an almost hazy effect to the end of this Indian summer day. On the far side of the river, a child helps his father pull a small boat onto the bank, as a small group of cattle makes their way across from the bank opposite them. The cattle move slowly and intently across the water, drinking as they walk, enjoying the last moments of the day as they continue toward the father and son. Two additional cows lounge on the cool earth beneath the trees whose branches are scattered with the crimson and yellow orange colors of early evening and that of fall. In analyzing Bierstadt s Indian Summer Hudson River , the painting would be defined as an example of representational artwork. Bierstadt s painting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Until the grownups come to fetch us, we ll have fun (Golding 35). At the beginning of the book, the boys had to discover the island to know it, and some of them were naked because they were innocent and didn t know much as an adult person. They didn t know if this is right or wrong. Adam and Eve knew nothing about life, garden, themselves, and others. They had to discover and learn things. It would be easier to learn the right things from the beginning, because it will reduce the consequences for the person and society. In addition, Jack said, I ought to be chief, (Golding 20). • 9. The Federal Reserve And Expansionary Monetary Policy When there are problems in the United States economy, whom do the people turn to? The most obvious answer is the government. The federal government is given the responsibility of maintaining a stable economy. When the economy is not stable, like during a recession, the American people turn the government and demand that they fix whatever problem is occurring. The government can handle the economy in a recessionary period in one of two ways: expansionary fiscal policy or expansionary monetary policy. The sector of the government that handles the economy using these policies in a recession is the Federal Reserve. The best course of action to get the United States out of a recession is to use expansionary monetary policy. In order to properly explain the expansionary economic policies that the federal government engages in, it is important to understand the vocabulary being used. The Federal Reserve Bank, commonly referred to as the Fed, is the central bank of the United States (Arnold, 2014). According to Steven Pressman (2013), the Federal Reserve is the institution in which the federal government and private banks do their banking. The central Federal Reserve banks are responsible for monitoring banks and ensuring they remain solvent. They also control interest rates and thus borrowing costs for consumers and business firms. This, in turn, affects unemployment and inflation, giving the Federal Reserve substantial control over the U.S. economy. Expansionary fiscal policy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Id, Ego, And Superego In The Lady With The Pet Dog In Joyce Oates short story The Lady with the Pet Dog, the main character, Anna, represents the Id, Ego, and Superego characteristics defined by Sigmund Freud. Anna is facing her morals (Superego) and feelings (Id), being confined to a marriage and detesting her affair. Because Anna is forced to balance a failing marriage, and loving her husband, while also loving a man who s not her husband, and not loving him because she can t, builds stress inside her and leads to rash desires and actions. Anna displays Freud s Id characteristics throughout, the things she wants most are life and love. Anna is in the middle of a dysfunctional marriage and starts an affair with another man. Her Id psyche is prevalent when her husband says that he loves her, but she thinks about her lover saying ...if betraying him (her husband) it would give her life a center (Oates 239). Anna s unconscious immature Id psyche thinks that the only way for her to have a purpose in life is to be with her lover, only looking for pleasure and not thinking about the consequences (McLeod). The Id is overlooking the common logic, she is married and her lover is married too, which is morally wrong, overriding the Superego. Anna s Id can be compared to that of a child s, like a kid at the store who asks his mom for candy, and when she says no he decides to steal the candy. In contrast, Anna says ....of course she was married, permanently married (Oates 246). Anna still can t make up her mind about her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Phoebe helps him realize the truth of life, which is that everyone has to go through the transition period and experience the reality of life. Ultimately, Holden understands that he cannot protect all the children, which is demonstrated in his thoughts, The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring [which symbolizes adulthood], you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it it s bad if you say anything to them. In the first chapter, one of the many steps to live a productive and successful life is being proactive. Proactive people think carefully before making any major or minor decisions, and most importantly, they take responsibilities for their behaviors. They often come to the conclusion of their choices based on values and principles instead of impulses or circumstances. Although there are many factors that influence us, one specific example are the sociocultural factors we are surrounded by in our everyday lives. This view explains that God calls each of us to roles within the church with no regard to race, gender or class. In Nettles , Vernon the relationship shown is the relationship that is shared between a father and his young 3 year old son who had fallen into a bed of stinging nettles. In The Manhunt , the poem Simon Armitage writes about the relationship that is shared between a wife and her husband who is an injured soldier who has just returned home from war. In Nettles , after the accident with his son falling in the bed of nettles, the father slashed in fury and acted quickly at the nettles to try and get rid of them to prevent his son from being hurt again. However, the father knows that this attempt to get rid of the bed of nettles is pointless as the bed of nettles will only grow back again in the future. This is understandable as it shows that every parent wants to prevent their child from being hurt in any way possible, and will do anything to prevent it. This also helps for the reader to become more involved with the poems, the characters and the characters emotions and feelings and it helps for the reader to become more sympathetic towards the characters. In The Manhunt , it talks about the effects of war and what happens to soldier s after war on real people and their real relationships. The pain of emotion after war is often worse than pain that is physical and this is backed up in Nettles , for example unexploded mine , buried deep in his mind . The imagery of the mine sounds very dangerous and like it could go off any minute and explode, and makes the poem more realistic and visual to the reader. The fault for this is widespread growth of certain ethnic groups caused by immigration, paired with technology that allows for unprecedented connectivity. Consequently, this allows minority groups to rapidly spread their culture and ideas throughout the country and influence the majorities like never before. Word Count: 1544 Part I: Introduction The 1180 through 1185 Gempei War between the Japanese Taira and Minamoto clans is often pointed to as an example of the Japanese warrior ethic. The Heike Monogatari traditionally would argue that this is true, however, the reality of the 12th century conflict paints a much different story. Analysis of the war shows that the deciding factors of the war were not necessarily the military strength of the Minamoto, but instead it was a brilliant and lucky political chess game played by Minamoto Yoritomo. Yoritomo was able to develop strategic alliances with local lords across eastern Japan and benefited from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Imperial Court neglected the many communities and prefectures that make up Japan. This led to many local lords taking matters into their own hands, and establishing virtually autonomous kingdoms each fighting each other for power. When the Gempei War broke out in 1180 Yoritomo pounced on the opportunity to gain overwhelming support. With the establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate, Yoritomo designed a system that would allocate authority to local military leaders that would, in turn, remain loyal to the Shogun. During the Gempei War, Yoritomo offered these positions to military lords across eastern Japan. With this strategy, Yoritomo was able to amass a force that outnumbered that of the Taira. This quote addresses the importance of this fact, the war s larger significance lay in Yoritomo s rechanneling of hostility among provincial warriors. By promising them land and jobs when he won, Yoritomo assured the loyalty of warriors who wanted to topple their regional rivals, (Selinger,4). I have two boys, both with different levels of self confidence, and see not only the difference in their attitude, but also in how I respond to their disappointments. Is this fair? I am not sure it is, but in one child I am still developing resilience and determination, and in the other I am further building on his desire to achieve. I have raised them both with the same values and have supported their self worth the same, however, where one is lacking in courage and resilience, the other has endurance and drive. Literature Review On The Phonics Literature Review The Debate There are a million adults who cannot read, one in six Londoners is functionally illiterate and people who cannot read or write are excluded from opportunities and may eventually become alienated and turn to crime (Johnson 2010, cited by Gross 2010). Gross (2010) expresses her concern and believes it is not where the children live, it is how they were taught to read and how they were properly motivated to learn to read. She endorses the synthetic systematic phonics approach as opposed to that of the whole word approach and believes we must place our focus on reading as it is indispensable. Phonics advocates have been arguing that in order for children to learn to read, they need to have an explicit instruction in the rules of printed text in order to read properly. The phonics approach has been described as bottom up as it teaches the children to decode text and then the meaning and understanding will follow while the whole word approach is described as top down, as the children depend on the pictures within the book, form hypothesis and make predictions of the words with the text of the book being read (Wren, 2003). Gross (2010) state that children should systematically be taught to read through phonics and not by memorising whole words ; by the late 1970 s teachers were no longer fond of that approach as it was not working because children were still struggling to read, it was dull and repetitive and new words were introduced at a ... • 31. Persuasive Essay On Forgiveness In a biblical manner, forgiveness roughly translates to letting go . Instead of holding a grudge to the offender, we should give them pardon. In Luke 11:4, we are given the passage of: And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Jesus used an example of this when comparing a person seeking repayment from a debt found in Matthew 18:23 35. Likewise, the act of forgiving does not come easy. In order to begin the journey of forgiveness, one should first let go of any resentment towards the particular person or situation that is causing destress. Once the resentment is gone, one can attempt to abandon the notion of being rewarded for their loss whether financial, personal, or something else. Forgiveness also entails benefits that can improve health and increase our progress towards living a wholesome Christian life. Proverbs 14:30 tells us that a heart with a peace and calmness in it gives life to the body but one with jealousy and bitterness leads to wrong desires similar to rotting bones. However, the greatest part to forgiving others is to exemplify how God forgave us for our own sins. In order to be forgiven by God, we must forgive people for their sins. If we fail to do this though, God will not forgive us for our sins (Matthew 6:14 15). 2 Peter 1:10 dictates that Christians should be more eager in making their calling and election since doing these makes sure that we will never fail. Our calling is God s salvation for us while our election is God picking us to be saved. Since God called and elected on us from his own glory and goodness, we must serve as examples to others by pursuing Godly virtues while actively living in a Christian lifestyle. Numerous people struggle in letting go of their respective past and carry on their baggage into their future. Not only does this prevent them from growing, it prevents them from achieving a happy life. As we interact with people similar to this, we can show them that they too can be resolved from their past issues. Personally, I forgive pretty easily as I think holding grudges is a waste of time and does not accomplish anything positive. However, I did have a hard time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Identify And Explain The Factors That Cause Changes In... The three factors that caused Galetown to have more severe rainstrorms this summer than in previous years are stronger winds, higher temperature and the new lake. First of all, stronger winds push the air parcels (An amount of air that moves as a unit) higher up in the troposphere. The higher the air parcel is in the troposphere, the colder it is. This will cause a greater energy transfer from the parcel to the surrounding air allowing them to become the same temperature and having condensation occurs. This will soon fall out as rain. In the chart, it tells us that in storms 3 and 4 that all factors are the same before the storm such as the surface water (high) and the temperatures are close enough to not make a significant difference. But the wind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the air parcel rises in the troposphere, the more energy transfer. The reason why the energy transfers is because the water vapor must have an equivalent temp to the surrounding air. More energy causes it to have more evaporation transferring more water vapor to the surrounding air. As the energy transfer occurs, the water vapor gets through condensation and turns to liquid water. The higher the parcel gets, the colder it is in the surrounding air which causes the water to condense and come out as rain. This is important because when the temperature of the air parcel is higher, it will rise higher in the troposphere and the higher the cloud is in the troposphere, the more rain that will fall. Also, the modeling tool tells us that storms 2 and 3 had all the same factors ( water vapor, troposphere temperature and surface water) but, the parcel temperature, was higher in storm 3 which caused it to have more rain. Lastly, the reason why the weather has been acting up is the new lake. The lake is causing more evaporation (the process by which a liquid changes into a gas). To address this problem, they created a near infrared 2 deoxyglucose probe (2DG IR) and used two photon microscopy to assess whether it is neurons or astrocytes which are taking up more glucose during neuronal activation. If the ANLS hypothesis is correct, astrocytes should be observed taking up more glucose. Whereas, if the parsimonious hypothesis is correct, glucose uptake should be greater in neurons. Next, to determine if anaesthesia affects cerebral metabolism, 2DG IR uptake in neurons and astrocytes of GLT1 eGFP reporter mice was quantitatively analyzed after ketamine/xylazine administration. Anaesthesia decreased glucose uptake in neurons more so than astrocytes. Next, Lundgaard et al. (2015) introduced the activity dependent component to their study by unilaterally stimulating (3 Hz) the whiskers of mice and observing 2DG IR uptake and neuronal activation. Local field potentials were measured in the contralateral barrel cortex during whisker stimulation to ensure neurons were activated; results confirmed neuronal activation occurred. Further, 2DG IR uptake was higher in contralateral barrel cortex, compared to ipsilateral. Specifically, uptake in contralateral neurons was significantly increased, whereas, astrocytic uptake was not statistically significant between the two hemispheres. Therefore, stimulation of the sensory system caused activated neurons to take up glucose to a greater extent than surrounding astrocytes. Finally, Lundgaard et al. • 47. Essay on The Story of an Hour The Story of an Hour The story of the hour is, to me, an interesting short story of the insight into the life thoughts of a woman struggling with a life that is proper and sociably acceptable and her own desires. Upon reading the opening passage Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband s death. (1) The reader, in this case I, would understand quickly that the main character of the story, Mrs. Mallard, must be treated with tenderness. We also learn that grave news is coming her way in a most careful manner. Reading further the actions of the main character would show shock, confusion, surprise, and other anxiety of a life without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The line in question is She said it over and over under her breath: Free, Free, Free! (11) It was at this point I realized that the shock was not from grief but from a desire come to fruition, a thought that had been held in fancy thought now finally true for the main character. I then had to reroute my thoughts and reread what I had already and reassess my earlier thoughts. That the tears shed may not have been from love lost, but from dreams fulfilled in thunderous joy. The new information I had read conflicted strongly with the preceding directional notion. Transforming what would have been a tragic short story of a woman who suffered loss and abandoned hope for life, into a story of elation for a woman suffering shackles on her life. While others around her feared for her suffering misery, behind a locked door silent rejoice was being had of how to maintain composure as a mourning widow instead of a joyful widow which was illustrated in this line, Free! Body and soul free! she kept whispering (16) I paused here once more to think of how possibly the story could turn once more, that the hopes of the main character would be dashed to thousands of pieces with a truth that the husband was not dead as was suspected. These types of countries are not necessarily not developed , they just have different customs, cultural differences or they could be nomadic (farming based) or an indigenous population, as described above. Maps of the globe are produced to show levels of world development based on three key features; wealth, social advantage and deprivation. An imaginary line can be seen around the world which separates the developed countries and the non developed countries. This line is called the Brandt line. It is a modern day method of measuring development. It basically separates countries based on how economically stable a country is, how technologically advanced it is, how democratic and how modern a country is. The line shows most developed countries to the north and west, whereas the least developed countries to the south and east. As with every theory, there are exceptions. These being Australia and New Zealand, which are classed as developed countries. Other indicators of development that are being used today are the PQLI, which is the physical quality of life index. Also the IHSI, which is the International Human Suffering Index. The PQLI is a quantitative measure of development and can be calculated by taking the average of three variables. These are life expectancy, literacy rates, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
