Descriptive Essay On A Rare Bird
A quiet bird. One that lived deep inside the forest. One that was barely seen when wanderers
passed the green and brown of the trees, and the underwood, the grass and the leaves. All they ve
seen was the sunlight filtered through this army of leaves above their heads and in height of
their eyes, caressing their faces as they pass through a void of never ending emerald. The tears of
a bygone night moistened their cheeks and they d ignore the mourning. Footsteps sunk deep into
the velvet ground covered by moss. They sank so deep that the strollers were afraid of being
locked into this green hell forever. Dragonflies and other winged insects rose with the last remains
of mist that told the story of a lonely, rare bird. The strollers stopped walking... Show more content

Instead, I am a bird and the hunter caught me. A big, darkly dressed fellow with dead eyes and
skin as bright as silk when it lay in my mother s hand. The silk my mother s face was covered in
when she died. Her face gone, hidden beneath a layer of expensive fabric. I never understood
why they would do such a thing, hiding a face of a beloved beneath a cover. Then, the hunter
grabbed me tight and put me into a wooden cage. He tapped his finger against it and smiled at
me. Surely, he did not mean me harm, but he harmed me anyway. I cannot flap my wings, I can
no longer fly, no longer can I graze the air with my coat. All what is left that I can do is to sing,
but not too loud or they ll place a cover across my cage and hide what I was once. Maybe it will
be silk and they will mourn me, too? When I sing, it is quiet. I recall the many shades light took
when it shun through droplets of mist, when the little orb slowly rolled down the leave and it was
so heavy, the leave gave in and watched the drop fall down into many other drops that weren t
supposed to be abandoned by the trees. I was a drop of water. A bird. A moth that

The Government Should Not Control What Children Eat Essay
Childhood obesity is an epidemic in the United States, nearly twenty percent of children between
the ages of 6 and 11 are clinically obese; however the government has no place trying to control this.
(CDC, 2008) The current administration over steps its authority moving beyond the control of
federally funded school lunches and into oversight of privately owned vending machines in public
schools. Major corporations are being bullied into censoring their advertisement exposure to
younger children so that the government won t impose their own regulations. It is a parent s
responsibility and right to educate their children and control what they eat. The Federal government
should not try to control what children eat by imposing regulations... Show more content on

Snack machines are big business in the public school system. They are privately owned and
serviced, in order to be placed in schools the vending companies enter into contracts where a
portion of profits are provided back to the school. These profits often play a big role in an already
tight school budget; they pay for necessities such as copies of student handouts and other teaching
aids. Where the problem begins is that the Let s Move program authorizes the United States
Department of Agriculture to set standards for all foods regularly sold in schools including vending
machines and al la cart lunch lines. Neither of the affected receives funding from the program,
making this a controversial issue of the federal government setting controls on state funded schools.
The federal government needs to stay out of state run programs, especially when it can affect
funding which directly relates to our children s education.
Aside from federal restrictions on food in public schools some states have allowed their
administration to create and enforce rules that are not their place to be making. At Little Village
Academy, a public school in Chicago the principal Elsa Carmona established a rule that banned
lunches made at home and drinks from home at school, the only acceptation is for children with
allergies. This ruling is an attempt to force the children to eat the

The Lutheranism Movement
Lutheranism as a religious movement originated in the early 16th century; once Lutheranism
spread the movement became a prime component in many military conflicts. The Lutheran church
is the oldest protestant Christian tradition. The teachings started back with Martin Luther. He was
the one who the Christians chose and they accepted his teachings. October 31, 1517 Luther who
was a catholic monk posted his 95 theses as a challenge to the doctrine and practices of the Catholic
Church. Martin Lutherhas been called the father of reformation. Lutheranism started showing up in
Europe after a century of reformer stirrings. In Germany the Lutheran movement became very
popular very fast. The early days of Lutherans were based mostly out of universities. They used
what they learned; to essentially spread their faith among a vast community of scholars.
Lutheranism could not only survive by the teachings of its professors. In the beginning... Show

The doctrine of justification was of central importance for the Lutheran reformation; taking place in
the 16th century. The contributions that Martin Luther and Lutheranism made to western
civilization went beyond what happened in the Christian church. The idea of reformation was
embedded in western though well before the 15th century. The main point of the reformation was
mostly in general reform and also to improve some to its original state. The renaissance and the
beginning of the humanist movement laid the ground for religious turmoil. By the 16th century
Lutheranism became established as the official religion of the German region. Martin Luther s 95
theses had its share of controversy when it came to politics. Today Lutheranism has spread from its
beginnings in the 16th century to all of the continents. During the 15th century many changes took

Soldiers Home Ernest Hemingway Essay
Signs of the PTSR in the Soldier s Home by Ernest Hemingway
The Soldier s Home is a short story written by Ernest Hemingway. Its plot focuses on Harold
Krebs, a young man, who returned to his home in Oklahoma after two years participation in the
World War I. This experience affected Harold and disturbed his full integration into the civil life.
The end of the story shows signs of improvement in Krebs s condition, as the man finally decides
to find a job. But this changes are shallow the character stayed withdrawal and did not
demonstrate a strong wish to participate in common activities of the civil life. It is possible to
suggest the man suffered from the Post traumatic stress disorder caused by the war. While Harold
s behavior did not correspond fully to the aspect of this disease, Hemingway s description of his
actions and attitude includes some symptoms of the PTSD.
This complex disorder causes a wide arrange of symptoms, which are broken down into different
categories. Harold did not demonstrate any of the active signs of the PTSD: the man was not
aggressive; he did not have hallucinations, nightmares or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some of them were caused by a necessity to lie and exaggerate to make people listen him
(Hemingway 1). Evidences of the man s negative thoughts appeared in the scene, where Krebs
read the book: He had been a good soldier (Hemingway 3). It looked like the character thought
differently about his war experience, and it was the text that helped to change his point of view.
It is impossible to claim Krebs was totally hopeless about his future: it looked like the man just
did not start to think about this issue. But it is obvious the character did not care too much about
his future life: he would gladly continue to maintain his passive daily regimen, if it was not for his
parents criticism. So, while Krebs did not give up completely, he was not reliant on his future life

Native Architects And Architectures Introduced
As a Chinese immigrant who lived in the USA for four years, I have been amazed by the western
architects and architectures introduced in lectures and textbook. Buildings like Sagrada Familia,
Guggenheim Museum, Burj Al Arab, and even the White House have attracted my interested
toward architecture by bringing me endless awes and wonders. Out of so many famous and
recognizable architects who designed marvelous buildings, this special Chinese family attracts extra
attention. Maybe a highly skilled architect is honorable, but a loyal architect family who devoted
their generations to architecture deserves the respect from all architects. In the following
paragraphs, I will describe this family and their work, as well as their importance and contribution
to the history of architecture.
Yang Shi Lei , meaning the Lei style , was a name for Lei family who worked as royal architects
over 200 years of Qing dynasty. In the end of 17th century, like many artisans, Fada Lei came to
Beijing and started working to build the palaces for Qing dynasty. Due to his outstanding building
skills and different architectural style, he was prided to be the designer of many royal buildings.
He had total of seven generals at the end the Qing dynasty, and they were all responsible for
designing and building the royal buildings such as the main palaces, imperial tomb, the old
Summer Palace, the Summer Palace and so on. To commemorate Lei s family s contribution to the
Chinese architectural history,

The Horrific Murder Of O. J. Simpson
June 12, 1994, does the day sound familiar? Just a simple Sunday in California, warm and
beautiful. Mr. Orenthal James Simpson made plans to attend his daughter s dance recital, along
with many other events that would occur (Courier Post). O.J. Simpson, the once lovable football
star, turned into a murderer over night. Many of O.J. s actions on June 12, 1994 have become
questionable and most of the evidence sources pointed to him; but did he commit the horrific
murders of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson? Nicole and O.J. met at a nightclub where
she worked, The Daisy. At the time, Nicole tried to make a living at the age of eighteen. On the

Analysis Of Videotape By Don Delillo
Somebody Got Murdered Nowadays, Americans find violence entertaining. It is recorded, viewed,
and shared constantly. In Don DeLillo s short story, Videotape a young girl recorded a man that
was shot while driving in a car; the video was shown on the news repetitively. The short story
revolves around a man at home attentively watching the video; he continuously called on his wife to
watch the video with him. This videotape represents how everyone is being desensitized to violence
, how there is a growing obsession with violence, and how quickly life can be taken away. This
short storyspeaks not only around the content of the videotape, but also on the man that is viewing
the tape; he watches the video and becomes desensitized to violence.... Show more content on

The beginning of the video shows the man waving at the young twelve year old girl that is
recording in the car in front of him. In the next instance, he is shot in the head. The
unexpectedness is captured when DeLillo wrote, It demonstrates the elemental truth, that every
breath you take has two possible endings (79). The statement is terrifying, yet completely eye
opening; no one expected for that man to be killed. That quote proves how no one ever knows
when their life will be taken away. Another quote that has the same effect is, There s something
here that speaks to you directly, saying terrible things about forces beyond your control (DeLillo
77). It is a common thought that there is no control whatsoever on the matters of death. The
forces that are spoken of in the sentence are open to interpretation. That man s life was controlled
by everyone else except himself. When the viewer realizes that he is practically rubbing the tape
in his wife s face, he admitted, ...this is the risk of existing (DeLillo 79). This statement is
interpreted as the fact that there are risks no matter what anyone does. Merely being alive is a risk as

Participant Observation Research Paper
Observation paper
The most naturally challenge and quality data collection and exploration method is observation,
Participant observation is in some ways both the most natural and the most challenging of
qualitative data collection methods participant observation is used across the social sciences, as
well as in various forms of commercial, public policy, and nonprofit research.. Such discovery is
natural in that all of us have done this repeatedly throughout our lives, learning what it means to be
members of our own families, our ethnic and national cultures, our work groups, and our personal
circles and associations. The challenge of observation is taking notes, recording voices, sounds, and
images; and asking questions that are designed to uncover the meaning behind the behaviors.
Sociologists also conducted participant observation studies and discussed the use of the technique
early on, including Beatrice Webb (1926) in the 1880s and the Chicago school of urban
sociologists in the 1920s (Park, Burgess, McKenzie, 1925). Observation means being embedded in

Planned Behavior
The Theory of Planned Behavior
The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) predicts an individual s intention to engage in a behavior at
a particular time and place ( Summary of theory of planned behavior. Abstract, 2016). It theorizes
that individual behavioral conduct is driven by behavior intentions, where conduct intentions are
function of three determinants: an individual mentality toward behavioral conduct, subjective
standards, and perceived behavioral control ( Summary of theory of planned behavior. Abstract,
2016).
Icek Ajzen Theory of Planned Behavior was proposed in 1985 through his article, From Intentions
to Actions: A Theory of Planned Behavior. The theory was developed from the Theory of
Reasoned Action , which was proposed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory consolidates some of the focal concepts in the social and behavior sciences, and it
characterizes these ideas in a way that grants prediction and comprehension of specific behaviors in
specified contexts (Ajzen, 1991). Demeanors toward the conduct, subjective standards with regards
to the behavior, and perceived control over the behavior are typically found to anticipate behavioral
intentions with an increase level of accuracy. Thusly, these intentions, in combination of perceived
behavioral control, can represent an instinctive proportion of discrepancy in behavior (Ajzen,

The Severe Water Crisis Of Africa Is One Of The World s...
The severe water crisis in Africa is one of the World s leading problems. Kenya and South Africa
have always had limited water resources, and now with their population continuing to grow, an
increase in the demand for water is needed now more than ever before. Water plays a crucial role
in continuing to help the continent of Africa develop and grow. This lack of water affects food
security, impoverished people, and their health.
Imagine spending one third of your day collecting water from the nearest source, which may be
miles away. This is the case for many women and children in Kenya. And, in South Africa, there
is an image of a town lined with buckets of people waiting to collect their water for the day. The
water is brought to these areas by an undependable truck, one that may not show up at all. Most
people in rural South Africa are entirely dependant on groundwater, which comes from wells and
pumps. According to worldbank.org, in 2015, 36.8 percent of people living in Kenya do not have
access to clean drinking water. This lack of water affects the health of millions of Kenyans. The
population of Kenya reaches almost 48 million people, but this need for water is no new issue. It
has been going on for decades. Kenya is a dry country with a humid climate. 17 percent of the land
can be used for agriculture profitability, that supports 75 percent of the population. Since the
economy relies so heavily on agriculture, when a drought happens it affects Kenya as a whole.

Billy Joel expresses how he, and other musicians felt towards the British Invasion, and one of the
bands leading the invasion were The Beatles. In the early to mid 1960 s The Beatles ruled the music
charts in a phenomenon only known as Beatlemania. After 1966 a new Beatle style was born, one
that defied the standards that they originally set. The Beatles revolutionized music, society, and
created a paragon for future musicians to follow. The Beatles were important figures in American
History because the changed the standards of music and influenced society into new, deeper ways
of thinking and interpreting music.

The No Child Left Behind Act and Educational Technology
Overview of Act: What it entails
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act has become a large, nationwide issue, since President
George Bush signed it into law on January 8, 2002, giving the schools the responsibility to keep
every student s academic achievement at a passing level. (Florida Department of Education; 2003;
pg. 1) Each state had twelve years to have all students proficient in reading and math, which gave
each state less than a year to create a plan. (Kim Sunderman; 2004; pg. 19) Title I, which is
included in this act, began in 1965 when the Elementary and Secondary Education Act was passed,
which gave federal funds to help academically struggling students. (North ... Show more content on

through five, once between grades six through nine and once between grades ten through twelve.
The assessments must contain multiple choice questions and well as open ended questions. Each

I Am A Master Of My Own Destiny, By The United States Of...
In the United States of America, there are over 300 million people. Each one of these people
have heard messages that tell them that they are in control. Whether it s their own lives or those
around them; Americans are bred with the idea that complete control is possible. This idea is
not a new concept for Americans. In fact, Americans have had overinflated ideas about control
since we decided that it was necessary for us to control the rest of the nation via Manifest
Destiny. The reason that I choose to focus on Americanized control as my final narrative is
because it is something that I ve grown familiar with in my life. It s always the same kinds of
people buying into it and being lead astray to the troubles that come with having such a strong
desire for control. In fact, I was once a believer in that ideology. I once thoughtthat I was the master
of my own destiny, but I was wrong. As I got older and time went on, every single thing that I m
writing now is everything that I ve seen in others. In other words, knowing that a person has no
control over their life is something that I understand intensely. I understand it so well that I can
breakdown some aspects of the type of control that affect Americans like me. These characteristics
of control are: the punishment of those who seemingly lack control, that planning is a placebo and
therefore does nothing, and working hard amounts to nothing.
Control is sold to people on the idea that it s achievable by all and only

Chemicals Derived rrom Salicylic Acid
The term salicylate refers to any of a group of chemicals that are derived from salicylic acid. The
best known is acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin). Acetylsalicylic acid is metabolized to salicylic acid
(salicylate) after ingestion. Salicylates are nonsteroidal anti inflammatory (NSAI) agents commonly
used for their analgesic and antipyretic properties. They act on the cyclooxygenase enzymes to
impair peripheral and central prostaglandin biosynthesis. (1)
Planned salicylate overdose usually occurs mostly in teenagers and young adults. Overdoses in
children are usually accidental and in the elderly they occur as therapeutic misadventures. (1) First
clinical appearances of acute salicylate poisoning are gastric irritation, vomiting producing
metabolic acidosis, UGI ulceration or bleeding. Stimulation of the respiratory center may produce
respiratory alkalosis and secondary renal bicarbonate wasting, hypokalemia and dehydration.
These metabolic changes finally lead to renal depletion of fluid and electrolytes, hypoglycemia,
hypokalemia and a mixed of respiratory and metabolic alkalosis coupled with metabolic acidosis
which may provoke cardiac dysrhythmias, acute pulmonary edema, renal failure or neurological
injury. (1) (5)
There is no antidote for salicylate poisoning. Treatment is directed toward preventing further
intestinal absorption of the drug, preventing its entry into the CNS, enhancing removal of drug
from CNS and speeding elimination of the drug from the body. (2)

Philosophy And Science Of The Same Breath
The philosophers Leucippus and Democritus are constantly mentioned in the same breath. Since
the bulk of their works did not survive the middle ages, we have only fragments and the writings of
their peers and successors to tell us about their accomplishments and ideas. It is difficult to separate
these two men because they are praised or critiqued as a unit by contemporaries and followers, but
their exact relationship is unclear. Sources such as Diogenes Laertius do not link them as teacher
and student, but rather as acquaintances. However, in Metaphysics, Aristotle refers to Democritusas
Leucippusdisciple , equating the two philosophers ideas of full and void (the idea of atoms and the
space in which they move). But whatever their relationship, their legacy of atomismis an important
one, and it has influenced philosophy and science down to the present day.
There is comprehensive access to primary sources on these philosophers and their ideas through
both the Perseus Digital Library and the Online Loeb Classical Library. The countless references to
Democritus in Aristotle s work are available both in original language and translation, as well as
passing references to Leucippus, Democritus, and their philosophy from authors such as Sextus,
Diogenes Laertius and others. Although these primary sources are mostly fragmented quotes or
philosophical rebuttals to Democritus and Leucippus works, they provide much needed information
on early atomist thought. The

A Report On Mobile Technology
Mobility is no longer optional in today s world; most enterprises are adopting mobile first
strategies to provide real time information and interactivity to consumers or employees on the
go. Enterprise mobility has seen increased popularity in the last few years, bringing in with it the
growing trend of Bring your own device (BYOD). While BYOD has a host of merits like
increased productivity, better connectivity and less expenditure for enterprises, but there are
security risks involved. This is where mobile management comes into the picture. It is generally
an administrative system and service that is used to encrypt and lock the device, and enforce
miscellaneous other BYOD policies. Schneider Electric BYOD policy is implemented through
Airwatch Mobile Device Management (MDM). Although BYOD adoption is continuously
increasing, only 1 percent of Schneider Electric employees have opted for BYOD enrollment on
their personal mobile devices until now. The major factors contributing to low adoption of
BYOD are the concerns and uncertainties around user activity tracking, logging and potential
loss or leakage of personal data. Moreover, the current BYOD deployment does not support a
large variety of popular mobile devices. Due to this, the adoption and usage of mobile applications
via the Internal App Store is also quite low. However, the current BYOD program is geared
towards addressing the enterprise data security concerns, which obviously has merits, and cannot be
overlooked

Control In Night
As a child growing up in Sighet, Eliezer and his family looks much like an ordinary and close
knit family today. That is until they were taken away where all control over life is striped away
and as a result has his destiny chose by chance (Wiesel 22). During his time in Auschwitz, he has
no choice of what he does. His only choice is to fight to survive. Eliezer simply does what he is
told, when he is told, so he is not punished.
Before this however, he has complete control over what he does in life, and it is his choice of
studying Kabbalah (Wiesel 4). He studies the Talmud and adheres to his parents belief in Orthodox
Judaism. During his days Eliezer often goes to prayers and speaks to Moishe about the ways of God
. He seems to be fascinated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An illustration of this is shown when Eliezer gets the infection in his foot, but because of this him
and his father are given the option of staying in Buna or leaving with the others.
Within Night it shows that a normal person has control over their life. While a child Eliezer
makes his own decisions or has his parents make them, his life is controlled by choice. Eliezer in
this stage is a great example of how a person s life is naturally controlled by choice and not
chance. However, when Eliezer is in the concentration camps he has his life chosen by chance. This
shows how Eliezer s choice is stole from him during his time at Buna and Auschwitz.
To conclude, I would like to state, as a boy, Eliezer has control over his life and how he will live
it. But during his containment Eliezer s life is controlled mostly by chance. Eliezer has choice
when young but after being shipped to Buna he had this right stolen from him. Night in its
simplest form is a story of Eliezer losing his choice in life and this being filled by chance. This is
shown when Eliezer says The choice was in our hands. For once. We could decide our fate for
ourselves (Wiesel

done. In the first part of the essay Wallis provides information on a family living in California. A
man and a woman with twins, one girl and one boy. Wallis observes that most of the time spent at
home by the children is on a computer with music blaring and chatting with friends on their cell
phones. Wallis states, By all standard space time calculations, the four members of the family
occupy the same three bedroom home in Van Nuys, California..., but psychologically each exists in
his or her own little universe. (385 386) In today s world, That level

Ethical Issues In Supersize Me
Introduction Super Size Me is a documentary film that focuses on the effects of fast food,
McDonald s in particular, to the human body in terms of physiological and psychological
aspects. The film is directed, produced, and starred by Morgan Spurlock whom investigated and
experimented on himself by eating McDonald s every meal, every day, for 30 days. Spurlock,
who in the beginning was a particularly healthy middle aged man, began experiencing weight
gain, addiction, depression, mood swings, sexual dysfunction, liver damage, and other health
related issues. During the 30 day period, Spurlock must: 1. eat three McDonald s meals a day; 2.
sample/eat every item on the McDonald s menu at least once; 3. not purchase anything, not found
on the menu; 4. super size his meal whenever the opportunity is presented. Also, as much as
possible, he must try not to walk exceedingly past 2,500 steps per day, which is the average step
per day for an American at that time. This extreme diet was overlooked by three doctors/specialists:

Essay on Society and Sports
Society and Sports There are many repercussions that are projected upon both men and women
when they enter into a sport that typically isn t thought of as gender appropriate. Some of those
cultural and social stigmatisms may be abandonment by your peers, and friends questions
regarding your sexuality, and even in some cases criticism as to how you are living your life. In
some cases, it may lead to you not being accepted by either group, theone whose norems you are

Women and men have different physical abilities that allow them to accent different parts of
their game. I will prove this by using an example from soccer. Men and women s soccer both
have a great following. However, the two games are played quite differently, not because the
women are less self serving, but because their game is more about finesse, and precision,
whereas men s game accentuates more their power and speed. The distinction here is not that
women are just naturally inclined to use the more feminine skills but rather that most don t have
the capacity to be able to use the power that a man does. This all fits into the socialization
argument well, but it fits in another way, too. I have found in my 16 years of soccer playing that
if a man posses the ability to have finesse, he is admired, and looked upon as a great addition to
any team. However, women who posses some of the traits more noted in men s soccer are
commonly criticized and encouraged to have more control. In soccer therefore, it is not as bad
for a man to have some feminine traits, but for females, to hold masculine traits is a great
detriment to their game. There is one more point that I would like to raise about the WNBA
article. In society and the media, there is hardly ever any mention about the male basketball player
s family. In the WNBA however, there is constant emphasis on the women s ability to fulfill dual
roles as athletes and mothers/wives.

Analysis Of The Book New Orleans
Upon returned to the United States Oswald moves around quite frequently, eventually ending up
in New Orleans. This is where the most mysterious and perplexing chapter of his life took place.
In 1963, Oswald is employed at the Reily Coffee Company, where he is fired from only months
later. He also starts a one man chapter of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee and began pro Castro
propaganda in New Orleans. Oddly enough, the return address on Oswald s pro Castro leaflets
was 544 Camp Street, New Orleans. This happened to be the same building where Guy Banister,
a former FBI agent, was working to overthrow Castro. A close comrade to Banister was the
familiar David Ferrie. Both Banister and Ferrie did investigative work for Carlos Marcello, the
mafia chieftain in New Orleans and the prime target of the Kennedys war on organized crime.
Was Oswald playing a kind of double game in New Orleans? His actions raise important
questions about his true attitude toward Cuba and whose side he was really on. In September
of 1963, Oswald was seen on a bus heading from Houston to Mexico City, where he tries to defect
once more. He plans to fight for Castro and return to Russia. He attempts to obtain a visa to
Cuba, and he was told that he could only enter Cuba under a temporary visa, and only in transit to
the Soviet Union. Oswald is later informed by KBG officers that it would take several months to
obtain a Soviet visa and that without one he would not be able to go to Cuba. When Oswald

The Seljuk Turks had been attacking the Byzantines for many YEARS. The Western church, when
called on by their Eastern Christian brothers, sent their men to aid in defense from the invasions
of the Turks. The Crusaders additional motive of regaining the Holy Land was not the first goal in
their minds; they originally wanted to aid their allies in the East. The Europeans had to fight the
potential tyranny, just as the Americans did against the tyrant, Hitler. The Americans fought for
their belief, and although some fought for religious purposes, most did not; they fought to help
the Jews and prevent the Nazi s from taking over the world. Likewise, the Crusaders fought for
their beliefs, and although some killed the Turks because of their religion, most did not; they
fought to stop the invasions into the Byzantine Church s land. The Eastern Church may have
eventually been oppressed by the Turks if they had not fought back and asked for allies, much like
the Irish against the British. This is an often overlooked reason, for why the Crusades were
necessary; they did not fight merely because they wished to have the Holy Land, they fought for

Book Of Corinthians
The book of Corinthians is a letter written by Paul and was sent to the church at Corinthians
because they had allowed their sinful behavior to turn them away from following Christ. Paul
warned the church to remember that they had been sanctified in Christ. The church struggled with
its commitment and relationship with Christ. The Corinthian church was lacking knowledge
pertaining to their spiritual gifts. They were reminded by Paul that they possessed all the gifts. The
church of today is more disconnected, wherefore, unaware of Christ after their salvation. When the
church s not closely connected to Christ the old way of life can reappear in the relationship.
Paul gives an account of his conversation in Acts 9: 1. This allows us to know that Christ was
working within his life, in the mist of his sins. It also confirms that Christ saves sinners, and uses
them for the glory of God. After his conversation, Paul was called to be an Apostle, Acts 9:15. He
was commissioned by Christ to do the work of an Apostle. Paul reminds us today that fellowship

Mixed Methodology For Data Collection And Analysis
The study will use a mixed method approach in data collection and analysis to provide enriched
data. Mixed methodology will provide a useful inter play between qualitative and quantitative
approaches and capture the best of both. This study will use an embedded design of mixed
methodology (Plano Clark et al. 2008) because the research has different questions that need both
quantitative and qualitative data to provide answers. However, the study will be a qualitatively
driven mixed methodology wherein the qualitative data will be the core component/approach and
the quantitative approach will provide the supplementary data (Qualquan mixed method).
Furthermore, as there is little research on this subject area in Canada, using a qualitative strategy
will allow for the discovery of unexpected issues and an in depth exploration of perceptions via
Indigenous methods. The study will utilize a before/after design by comparing the knowledge,
attitude and practice (KAP) of the same group of people before and after the intervention (O Leary
2014). In addition, the study will use a sequential strategy of inquiry herein; data from one method
will inform the other in order to gain better understanding of the research problem. The qualitative
data will be collected prior to the intervention so as to inform the intervention design, and after the
intervention to follow up and better understand the outcome of the intervention. The quantitative

Without a Name by Yvonne Vera vs. Advocating a Namable...
Without a Name, a novel written by Yvonne Vera, explores the journey of a young Zimbabwean
woman, Mazvita, during the late 1970 s guerilla war. In 1963, the two political parties in
Zimbabwe were banned, which led to guerilla warfare in 1966. This ultimately led to emigration
out of Rhodesia. In the novel, Mazvita traveled from her hometown of Mubaira, to the city of
Harare. In her hometown, she faced rebel forces, which sexually abused her along with
destroyed her village. In the course of her journey to Kadoma and the city of Harare, Mazvita
encountered more political violence and a revolutionary social change. Generally, Yvonne Vera,
the author, has been known for poetically writing about strong female protagonists who
experience traumatic events in their lifetimes. However, Corwin L. Mhlahlo argues differently
in Advocating a Nameable Desire. Mhlahlo believes that it is not only Mazvita s negative
experiences, which interest Vera, but also the female sexual pleasure Mazvita feels and how it
relates to the colonized black gendered subject s claim to a phallic privilege. Corwin Mhlahlo s
argument begins with fully understanding the Africa perspective on female sexual desire. In these
patriarchal societies, like Zimbabwe Rhodesia, female desire and sexual pleasure is frowned upon,
which led women and their needs discouraged, suppressed, and repressed (Mhlahlo 97). This
negative view on female sexual desire began with the traditional male chauvinistic views: an

These ideas are the main reason on Marx s conclusion on man s nature, which is incredibly
important to understand the theory of the individual. Man s nature is not abstract; a characteristic of
a certain individual. Actually it is the totally of all the social relations (Marx). In this quote the idea
of man s nature that Marx has represents a revolutionary reconstruction that would have to happen
in the world and the importance of education in the individual.
Marx s studies the theory of the individual and mainly focus in three areas, which are the complete
development of the individual, the problems of alienation and freedom.
Labour for the worker is something external not belonging to his nature...in his labour he does
not affirm himself, but denies himself, feels not happy, but unhappy, does not develop freely his
physical and spiritual energy but wears out his physical nature and destroys his spiritual force.
This is why the worker feels that he is himself only outside of working hours in the process of
labour he feels he is estranged from himself. He is himself when he is not working, and when he
works he is already not himself. (Marx)
Marx explains the idea in how the labor workers do not own they own work. Therefore, alienation
is a product from labor and it is used between capitalist societies to alienate the product of a man s

Savagery And Civilization In Lord Of The Flies By William...
Have you ever been stranded on an island by yourself in your life? The author s name William
Golding. The title of the book is Lord of the Flies. Civilization is leadership, organization, rules,
working together as a team, and being consistent. Savagery is wild nature, no leadership
/competition, and chaos. The main characters of the book are Jack, Piggy, Ralph, and Simon. In
this paper, I will argue that there had been many incidents throughout the book involving savagery
and civilization. A quote in the book that relates to savagery is They were savages, it was true,
but they were human (169). It is saying that human can be savages but it all depends on the
person because they could be civilized people if they wanted to. In Lord of the Flies, Golding
shows that people can turn on each other without civilization. Piggy is the underdog punching
bag, and he is sensitive and smart. Ralph is voted to be leader and he is very respectful. Simon is
the follower and he s the goodness of the group. Sam and Eric are the only twins in the group.
Jack is the one that wants to be leader and not many people vote for him to become their leader.

crash so they re alone on the island with nobody to guide or help them. If all the kids work
together, they would have an easier life on the island but in order to do that, you need to be

The Therac 25 incident is one of the more difficult to understand. AECL, the company which

Sometimes software bugs can result in the loss of lives, as was the case with a device called
Therac 25. Of 11 Therac 25s installed, there were 6 reported accidents, including 3 fatalities,
between 1985 and 1987, after which the device was recalled. Patients were given hundreds of times
of radiation than is usual for this treatment. All of the safety mechanisms in Therac 25 relied on
software, which itself was running on custom operating system with no synchronization, and,
therefore, multiple race conditions that could not easily be detected and reproduced. Therac 20, a
similar linear accelerator, which had hardware interlocks to ensure safety, experienced similar
software malfunctions, but did not cause any bodily harm. It was revealed in a deposition that
minimal unit testing was done on the software, violating principle 1.03, of the ACM/IEEE software

In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, many interesting fantasies
occur in a way which brings the reader into a different world. The story switches back and forth
from delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the
beginning of this story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It
describes his life as a commander of an aircraft. An intense scene is displayed showing what
Walter Mitty wishes would be reality. It is not until the next paragraph that one discovers this

The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the
elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a
way that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the
introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings
because of these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two
introductory characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen
as a guessing game to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this
introduction. Once the setting is described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the
reader will grasp an understanding of where these two characters are. However, soon after the
reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is interrupted with the dialogue of a new character,
Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast
for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the basic structure that this story will set
forth. The organization of this story goes from what was described in the introductory paragraph as
a flashback, to the interrupting dialogue of Mrs. Mitty. As she yells,

Essay on Opposition to Immigration in 19th and 20th...
Immigration in 19th and 20th Century America During the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, many American nativist groups opposed free unrestricted immigration. Although racism
is a main reason, there were many others. Economic, political, social and moral standards seemed to
be threatened by these newcomers. The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs
that we take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people
reacted so strongly against immigrants. The people feared change might distort the course of our
prospering country. We did not want to become what those immigrants were fleeing. Many
economic changes were changing the pace of our nation during the late nineteenth... Show more

This was not a single view, but a reflection of how the entire nativist nation felt. Many political
changes were also being made during this abstract time period. Immigrants were new to our
elaborate and tangled web of politics. In fact many nativist Americans didn t understand our
political system all to well. Many people had the conception that immigrants were too half witted to
follow American politics. After all they were not even born here. Immigrants tended to vote in
blocks together. In document 7, according to magazine writer, E.A. Ross thought that foreigners
were underhanded and corrupt. They polluted everything good about our pure and honest political
system. Ross gives a clear exaggeration on how the foreigners managed to change the outcome of
an election. From intimidation at the polls, ballot frauds, vote purchases, and saloon influence. Also
the support of the vicious and criminal. This is clearly a stretch on the reality of the situation. He
contradicts himself at the end by saying its root is the simple minded foreigner . With all this
criminal masterminding to change an election outcome, its foundation are immigrants who do not
completely understand our political system. Thats fails to make any sense to me whatsoever. Most
immigrants wanted a better future for their families and that was all. Social changes played a huge
role in the nativist campaign against immigrants. Many changes were occurring in our social

Censorship, Media Manipulation, And Betrayal
In George Orwell s novel, 1984, he incorporates the major themes of censorship, media
manipulation, and betrayal. The citizens of Oceania are constantly bombarded with different
forms of propaganda, including the posters stating BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING and the Party
s slogans, WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. Giant
telescreens constantly run streams of propaganda in hopes of making the Party appear superior to
the Brotherhood. According to Big Brother, sexual interactions should be kept to a minimum and
only occur to populate and produce more Party supporters. The Party strongly encourages the
children of Oceania to join the Junior Spies, an organization that brainwashes them to report their
parents or guardians if they feel they are being disloyal to the Party and Big Brother. Nothing is
private in the territory of Oceania; technological mechanisms, such as small microphones and
helicopters acting as drones, are installed throughout to constantly monitor its members. As media
manipulation evolves and the citizens become further brainwashed, individuals have a big decision
to make, whether to rebel against the Party or betray their old ways of life. The people of Oceania
cannot express their true thoughts, emotions, and feelings about the Party for the fear that the
Thought Police will catch and turn them in. These negative thoughts obviously exist, but not many
individuals are willing to stand up for what they believe in and who they

Charles Darwin to Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
How does Stevenson present duality in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Stevenson presents duality in
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in various ways. One of these variations of the duality is among the
minor characters, for example Utterson and Enfield. Their similarity is that they are both
respectable Victorian gentlemen, that both like to discuss stories but they feel it is gossiping
about their friend and say let us make a bargain to never refer to this again , this shows that they
feel that they have over stepped the mark and have stumbled upon something that is better left
alone, this is also the first mention of a mystery giving us a clue in to the genre. Dink gin ... he

Jekyll). But the novel was also partly based on a play Deacon Brodia (1880) which is about a
publicly respectable gentleman but privately a thief and rakehell. The novel had been
considered by some people, mainly the higher ranked and important persons of the 19th
centaury, as a criticism of Victorian double morality meaning they felt it was presenting a false
image of what went on in London. They may have also have felt that it was encouraging other
people to do things considered wrong like. This shows duality between the novel and the
behaviour in London during the 19th centaury. The novel also creates a lot of tension as you
progress through the text. It rises every time something is discovered in the mystery of Hyde
which strengthens it s the detective/mystery genre. At the beginning all is calm but as Hyde
comes to life, the tension rises. A really damnable man this shows us how much Hyde is hated,
but this also shows us where the tension begins to rise. The tension is near enough sky high
when the quotes something wrong with his appearance and He must be deformed are used to
make the audience worry and wonder what will prevail from the mystery of Hyde. The weather
is a ladder for the tension, described as a wild, cold, seasonable night of March ... pale moon this
was used when Utterson searched for Hyde, showing us a mysterious side of London. Although it
doesn t show much duality, it does play a part in making the novel s mystery

Home Ownership By Millennials
Figures lie and liars figure is a quote that means people can turn numbers around to suit their agenda
/purposes. Absolute salaries and/or prices may be higher today than in 1997 but that statement does
not specify whether it takes into account inflation, paying a larger percentage of health insurance
costs or the decrease in other benefits like relocation expenses and tuition reimbursement. So,
assuming the statement to be true, is it accurate?
The data supporting a slow adoption rate for home ownership by Millennials may be due to
financial factors such as increased student loan debt upon graduation or inability to find higher wage
jobs to meet debt to income ratios or non financial factors such as job mobility, the ability and ...

The alternative is to go to a sub prime lender offering high interest rates.
Home prices are skyrocketing. It s a seller s market. With higher home prices come higher down
payments and higher mortgages. It almost requires a two person income to afford a home. Entering
into a legal mortgage contract with someone who is not a significant other is dangerous. With the
prevalence of divorce, even buying a home with a life partner is risky business. The partnership
deteriorates and there goes the home because one income can t support the debt.
Assuming Millennials can overcome the financial factors working against home ownership, then
they must look at the non financial factors which are equally as rough to navigate. Start with job
mobility. If a Millennial is lucky enough to find a well paying job that will support student loan
debts and a mortgage, the job is likely non entry level within an organization. The job may
require frequent travel which would decrease time available to maintain one s house. The job
may require relocation which can be costly if the company is not picking up the cost (and fewer
companies are these days). Additionally, technology is creating a more mobile work environment
meaning employees don t necessarily have to live near their places of employments any more.
Work today from your timeshare in Florida and tomorrow from your parents spare bedroom.
Mobility makes it almost silly for

Congress Passed Health Insurance Portability and...
During the 1980 s, medical related situations continuously occurred that made patients question
their insurance policies as well as the privacy of their health care. Congress worked to create a

faculty and titled the Health InsurancePortability and Accountability Act .The H.I.P.A.A. policies
brought about change in professionalism, medical standards, taxing, and enforcement. Throughout

Summary Of September Of The Penguins
March of the Penguins is a documentary that provides its viewers with an inside look at a penguins
life. It shows us their mating cycle, the challenges they face and how they work together as
community. After watching this film I believe that I have learned new information about penguins
that I did not know before. Penguins are a great example to look at when trying to understand the
way that communities work. Through this film I was able to learn that for penguins working
together is crucial for their survival. After watching March of the Penguins I believe that humans
interact with one another is similar to way which penguins act as a community. Like penguins, we
rely on each other for safety, guidance, comfort, etc. Throughout March of the Penguins you are
able to see many examples of how penguins cooperation with one another. The first example of this
is seen when the male penguins begin their seventy mile journey to the mating ground. During this
time the penguins use each other s judgment to find their way. Another example of cooperation
within penguincommunities is that the penguins will huddle together for warmth during the coldest
winter months. During these huddles the penguins constantly switch places in order to give each a
chance closer to the center of the huddle. You are also able to see cooperation throughout the entire
mating process. The pair will take turns caring and providing for their baby during this time. Once
the egg has arrived, the female

Watching A Disappearing Number in Theater Essay examples
Choose one production that you have seen and which you particularly enjoyed and discuss the
aspects which made it so successful.
A Disappearing Number
I went to see a Disappearing Number, in the Theater. The production was performed by Complicite
and was directed by Simon McBurney. I really enjoyed this performance. I thought that the mixture
of maths and romance as well as the structure of the performance by incorporating the past and the
present together, was extremely successful.
The most successful aspect of the performance for me were the scene changes. I found that the
rotation of the blackboard, center stage, where the actors were able to stoop beneath it in order to
enter and exit the stage, was an effective touch to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another really effective aspect to the performance was the use of technology, including sound
effects, projections, pod casts and voice overs. The scene which stood out most for me,
concerning technology would be the scene where Al is trapped in the lecture theatre. Here, he
begins to look through Ruth?s belongings of books, papers and passports. While he is doing
this, actions too small to be seen from the audience, a live streaming is being projected up onto
the whiteboard behind to show us, as the audience, what he is looking at. Al starts to read a page
from a book which has been marked down and as he starts to read a voice over starts reading the
same words, quietly at first and as that gradually builds up in volume, Al?s voice decreases in
volume till its just the voice over reading out the words from the book. This is one of the first
links to the past, a key theme in the performance, as the voice over is the voice of G H Hardy, the
great mathematician reading from his own book.
We were introduced to the performance by the character Ruth giving a maths lecture, simple at first
but then getting extremely difficult to follow, going off on a tangent, using mathematical
terminology I had never even heard of. This maths theme carried on throughout the whole
performance, making it, from my point of view, the strongest link from the present to the past, as
Ruth was wanting to follow in the footsteps of Ramanujan and Hardy.
One of the scenes which had the

  • 2. Descriptive Essay On A Rare Bird A quiet bird. One that lived deep inside the forest. One that was barely seen when wanderers passed the green and brown of the trees, and the underwood, the grass and the leaves. All they ve seen was the sunlight filtered through this army of leaves above their heads and in height of their eyes, caressing their faces as they pass through a void of never ending emerald. The tears of a bygone night moistened their cheeks and they d ignore the mourning. Footsteps sunk deep into the velvet ground covered by moss. They sank so deep that the strollers were afraid of being locked into this green hell forever. Dragonflies and other winged insects rose with the last remains of mist that told the story of a lonely, rare bird. The strollers stopped walking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, I am a bird and the hunter caught me. A big, darkly dressed fellow with dead eyes and skin as bright as silk when it lay in my mother s hand. The silk my mother s face was covered in when she died. Her face gone, hidden beneath a layer of expensive fabric. I never understood why they would do such a thing, hiding a face of a beloved beneath a cover. Then, the hunter grabbed me tight and put me into a wooden cage. He tapped his finger against it and smiled at me. Surely, he did not mean me harm, but he harmed me anyway. I cannot flap my wings, I can no longer fly, no longer can I graze the air with my coat. All what is left that I can do is to sing, but not too loud or they ll place a cover across my cage and hide what I was once. Maybe it will be silk and they will mourn me, too? When I sing, it is quiet. I recall the many shades light took when it shun through droplets of mist, when the little orb slowly rolled down the leave and it was so heavy, the leave gave in and watched the drop fall down into many other drops that weren t supposed to be abandoned by the trees. • 3. The Government Should Not Control What Children Eat Essay Childhood obesity is an epidemic in the United States, nearly twenty percent of children between the ages of 6 and 11 are clinically obese; however the government has no place trying to control this. (CDC, 2008) The current administration over steps its authority moving beyond the control of federally funded school lunches and into oversight of privately owned vending machines in public schools. Major corporations are being bullied into censoring their advertisement exposure to younger children so that the government won t impose their own regulations. It is a parent s responsibility and right to educate their children and control what they eat. The Federal government should not try to control what children eat by imposing regulations... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Snack machines are big business in the public school system. They are privately owned and serviced, in order to be placed in schools the vending companies enter into contracts where a portion of profits are provided back to the school. These profits often play a big role in an already tight school budget; they pay for necessities such as copies of student handouts and other teaching aids. Where the problem begins is that the Let s Move program authorizes the United States Department of Agriculture to set standards for all foods regularly sold in schools including vending machines and al la cart lunch lines. Neither of the affected receives funding from the program, making this a controversial issue of the federal government setting controls on state funded schools. The federal government needs to stay out of state run programs, especially when it can affect funding which directly relates to our children s education. Aside from federal restrictions on food in public schools some states have allowed their administration to create and enforce rules that are not their place to be making. At Little Village Academy, a public school in Chicago the principal Elsa Carmona established a rule that banned lunches made at home and drinks from home at school, the only acceptation is for children with allergies. This ruling is an attempt to force the children to eat the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Soldiers Home Ernest Hemingway Essay Signs of the PTSR in the Soldier s Home by Ernest Hemingway The Soldier s Home is a short story written by Ernest Hemingway. Its plot focuses on Harold Krebs, a young man, who returned to his home in Oklahoma after two years participation in the World War I. This experience affected Harold and disturbed his full integration into the civil life. The end of the story shows signs of improvement in Krebs s condition, as the man finally decides to find a job. But this changes are shallow the character stayed withdrawal and did not demonstrate a strong wish to participate in common activities of the civil life. It is possible to suggest the man suffered from the Post traumatic stress disorder caused by the war. While Harold s behavior did not correspond fully to the aspect of this disease, Hemingway s description of his actions and attitude includes some symptoms of the PTSD. It is impossible to claim Krebs was totally hopeless about his future: it looked like the man just did not start to think about this issue. Native Architects And Architectures Introduced As a Chinese immigrant who lived in the USA for four years, I have been amazed by the western architects and architectures introduced in lectures and textbook. Buildings like Sagrada Familia, Guggenheim Museum, Burj Al Arab, and even the White House have attracted my interested toward architecture by bringing me endless awes and wonders. Out of so many famous and recognizable architects who designed marvelous buildings, this special Chinese family attracts extra attention. Maybe a highly skilled architect is honorable, but a loyal architect family who devoted their generations to architecture deserves the respect from all architects. In the following paragraphs, I will describe this family and their work, as well as their importance and contribution to the history of architecture. Yang Shi Lei , meaning the Lei style , was a name for Lei family who worked as royal architects over 200 years of Qing dynasty. In the end of 17th century, like many artisans, Fada Lei came to Beijing and started working to build the palaces for Qing dynasty. Due to his outstanding building skills and different architectural style, he was prided to be the designer of many royal buildings. In Don DeLillo s short story, Videotape a young girl recorded a man that was shot while driving in a car; the video was shown on the news repetitively. The short story revolves around a man at home attentively watching the video; he continuously called on his wife to watch the video with him. The statement is terrifying, yet completely eye opening; no one expected for that man to be killed. That quote proves how no one ever knows when their life will be taken away. Another quote that has the same effect is, There s something here that speaks to you directly, saying terrible things about forces beyond your control (DeLillo 77). It is a common thought that there is no control whatsoever on the matters of death. The forces that are spoken of in the sentence are open to interpretation. That man s life was controlled by everyone else except himself. Participant Observation Research Paper Observation paper The most naturally challenge and quality data collection and exploration method is observation, Participant observation is in some ways both the most natural and the most challenging of qualitative data collection methods participant observation is used across the social sciences, as well as in various forms of commercial, public policy, and nonprofit research.. Such discovery is natural in that all of us have done this repeatedly throughout our lives, learning what it means to be members of our own families, our ethnic and national cultures, our work groups, and our personal circles and associations. The challenge of observation is taking notes, recording voices, sounds, and images; and asking questions that are designed to uncover the meaning behind the behaviors. • 12. The Severe Water Crisis Of Africa Is One Of The World s... The severe water crisis in Africa is one of the World s leading problems. Kenya and South Africa have always had limited water resources, and now with their population continuing to grow, an increase in the demand for water is needed now more than ever before. Water plays a crucial role in continuing to help the continent of Africa develop and grow. This lack of water affects food security, impoverished people, and their health. Imagine spending one third of your day collecting water from the nearest source, which may be miles away. This is the case for many women and children in Kenya. And, in South Africa, there is an image of a town lined with buckets of people waiting to collect their water for the day. The water is brought to these areas by an undependable truck, one that may not show up at all. Most people in rural South Africa are entirely dependant on groundwater, which comes from wells and pumps. According to worldbank.org, in 2015, 36.8 percent of people living in Kenya do not have access to clean drinking water. This lack of water affects the health of millions of Kenyans. The population of Kenya reaches almost 48 million people, but this need for water is no new issue. It has been going on for decades. • 15. I Am A Master Of My Own Destiny, By The United States Of... In the United States of America, there are over 300 million people. Each one of these people have heard messages that tell them that they are in control. Whether it s their own lives or those around them; Americans are bred with the idea that complete control is possible. This idea is not a new concept for Americans. In fact, Americans have had overinflated ideas about control since we decided that it was necessary for us to control the rest of the nation via Manifest Destiny. The reason that I choose to focus on Americanized control as my final narrative is because it is something that I ve grown familiar with in my life. It s always the same kinds of people buying into it and being lead astray to the troubles that come with having such a strong desire for control. In fact, I was once a believer in that ideology. I once thoughtthat I was the master of my own destiny, but I was wrong. As I got older and time went on, every single thing that I m writing now is everything that I ve seen in others. In other words, knowing that a person has no control over their life is something that I understand intensely. I understand it so well that I can breakdown some aspects of the type of control that affect Americans like me. Acetylsalicylic acid is metabolized to salicylic acid (salicylate) after ingestion. Salicylates are nonsteroidal anti inflammatory (NSAI) agents commonly used for their analgesic and antipyretic properties. They act on the cyclooxygenase enzymes to impair peripheral and central prostaglandin biosynthesis. (1) Planned salicylate overdose usually occurs mostly in teenagers and young adults. Overdoses in children are usually accidental and in the elderly they occur as therapeutic misadventures. (1) First clinical appearances of acute salicylate poisoning are gastric irritation, vomiting producing metabolic acidosis, UGI ulceration or bleeding. Stimulation of the respiratory center may produce respiratory alkalosis and secondary renal bicarbonate wasting, hypokalemia and dehydration. These metabolic changes finally lead to renal depletion of fluid and electrolytes, hypoglycemia, hypokalemia and a mixed of respiratory and metabolic alkalosis coupled with metabolic acidosis which may provoke cardiac dysrhythmias, acute pulmonary edema, renal failure or neurological injury. It is difficult to separate these two men because they are praised or critiqued as a unit by contemporaries and followers, but their exact relationship is unclear. A Report On Mobile Technology Mobility is no longer optional in today s world; most enterprises are adopting mobile first strategies to provide real time information and interactivity to consumers or employees on the go. Enterprise mobility has seen increased popularity in the last few years, bringing in with it the growing trend of Bring your own device (BYOD). While BYOD has a host of merits like increased productivity, better connectivity and less expenditure for enterprises, but there are security risks involved. This is where mobile management comes into the picture. It is generally an administrative system and service that is used to encrypt and lock the device, and enforce miscellaneous other BYOD policies. Schneider Electric BYOD policy is implemented through Airwatch Mobile Device Management (MDM). Although BYOD adoption is continuously increasing, only 1 percent of Schneider Electric employees have opted for BYOD enrollment on their personal mobile devices until now. The major factors contributing to low adoption of BYOD are the concerns and uncertainties around user activity tracking, logging and potential loss or leakage of personal data. Moreover, the current BYOD deployment does not support a large variety of popular mobile devices. Due to this, the adoption and usage of mobile applications via the Internal App Store is also quite low. Men and women s soccer both have a great following. However, the two games are played quite differently, not because the women are less self serving, but because their game is more about finesse, and precision, whereas men s game accentuates more their power and speed. The distinction here is not that women are just naturally inclined to use the more feminine skills but rather that most don t have the capacity to be able to use the power that a man does. This all fits into the socialization argument well, but it fits in another way, too. I have found in my 16 years of soccer playing that if a man posses the ability to have finesse, he is admired, and looked upon as a great addition to any team. However, women who posses some of the traits more noted in men s soccer are commonly criticized and encouraged to have more control. In soccer therefore, it is not as bad for a man to have some feminine traits, but for females, to hold masculine traits is a great detriment to their game. There is one more point that I would like to raise about the WNBA article. In society and the media, there is hardly ever any mention about the male basketball player s family. This is where the most mysterious and perplexing chapter of his life took place. In 1963, Oswald is employed at the Reily Coffee Company, where he is fired from only months later. He also starts a one man chapter of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee and began pro Castro propaganda in New Orleans. Oddly enough, the return address on Oswald s pro Castro leaflets was 544 Camp Street, New Orleans. This happened to be the same building where Guy Banister, a former FBI agent, was working to overthrow Castro. A close comrade to Banister was the familiar David Ferrie. Both Banister and Ferrie did investigative work for Carlos Marcello, the mafia chieftain in New Orleans and the prime target of the Kennedys war on organized crime. Was Oswald playing a kind of double game in New Orleans? His actions raise important questions about his true attitude toward Cuba and whose side he was really on. In September of 1963, Oswald was seen on a bus heading from Houston to Mexico City, where he tries to defect once more. He plans to fight for Castro and return to Russia. He attempts to obtain a visa to Cuba, and he was told that he could only enter Cuba under a temporary visa, and only in transit to the Soviet Union. Without a Name, a novel written by Yvonne Vera, explores the journey of a young Zimbabwean woman, Mazvita, during the late 1970 s guerilla war. In 1963, the two political parties in Zimbabwe were banned, which led to guerilla warfare in 1966. This ultimately led to emigration out of Rhodesia. In the novel, Mazvita traveled from her hometown of Mubaira, to the city of Harare. In her hometown, she faced rebel forces, which sexually abused her along with destroyed her village. In the course of her journey to Kadoma and the city of Harare, Mazvita encountered more political violence and a revolutionary social change. Generally, Yvonne Vera, the author, has been known for poetically writing about strong female protagonists who experience traumatic events in their lifetimes. However, Corwin L. Mhlahlo argues differently in Advocating a Nameable Desire. Mhlahlo believes that it is not only Mazvita s negative experiences, which interest Vera, but also the female sexual pleasure Mazvita feels and how it relates to the colonized black gendered subject s claim to a phallic privilege. Corwin Mhlahlo s argument begins with fully understanding the Africa perspective on female sexual desire. In this paper, I will argue that there had been many incidents throughout the book involving savagery and civilization. • 42. Central Park In The 19th Century Our day was coming to an end but we had made just one last stop to Central Park. Around the 19th century the city had doubled in size and it was developing into the city we know today. Immigrants were forced to move into tenement buildings and the city began to see an influx of people in the streets. The cityrealized it was time for the city to change and so they bought 700 acres from 58th to 106th Street in order to create a new park. We began our stroll around the park and visited the Conservatory Garden. The garden is known to be the only formal garden in the park. The garden is also divided up into three distinct formal gardens: English, French, and Italian style. We had a chance to visit the English style garden. The garden was absolutely ... • 43. Essay on Opposition to Immigration in 19th and 20th... Immigration in 19th and 20th Century America During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many American nativist groups opposed free unrestricted immigration. Although racism is a main reason, there were many others. Economic, political, social and moral standards seemed to be threatened by these newcomers. The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs that we take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people reacted so strongly against immigrants. The people feared change might distort the course of our prospering country. We did not want to become what those immigrants were fleeing. Many economic changes were changing the pace of our nation during the late nineteenth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was not a single view, but a reflection of how the entire nativist nation felt. Many political changes were also being made during this abstract time period. Immigrants were new to our elaborate and tangled web of politics. In fact many nativist Americans didn t understand our political system all to well. Many people had the conception that immigrants were too half witted to follow American politics. After all they were not even born here. Immigrants tended to vote in blocks together. In document 7, according to magazine writer, E.A. Ross thought that foreigners were underhanded and corrupt. They polluted everything good about our pure and honest political system. Ross gives a clear exaggeration on how the foreigners managed to change the outcome of an election. From intimidation at the polls, ballot frauds, vote purchases, and saloon influence. Also the support of the vicious and criminal. This is clearly a stretch on the reality of the situation. He contradicts himself at the end by saying its root is the simple minded foreigner . With all this criminal masterminding to change an election outcome, its foundation are immigrants who do not completely understand our political system. Thats fails to make any sense to me whatsoever. Most immigrants wanted a better future for their families and that was all. Social changes played a huge role in the nativist campaign against immigrants. Many changes were occurring in our social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Censorship, Media Manipulation, And Betrayal In George Orwell s novel, 1984, he incorporates the major themes of censorship, media manipulation, and betrayal. The citizens of Oceania are constantly bombarded with different forms of propaganda, including the posters stating BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING and the Party s slogans, WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. Giant telescreens constantly run streams of propaganda in hopes of making the Party appear superior to the Brotherhood. According to Big Brother, sexual interactions should be kept to a minimum and only occur to populate and produce more Party supporters. The Party strongly encourages the children of Oceania to join the Junior Spies, an organization that brainwashes them to report their parents or guardians if they feel they are being disloyal to the Party and Big Brother. Nothing is private in the territory of Oceania; technological mechanisms, such as small microphones and helicopters acting as drones, are installed throughout to constantly monitor its members. As media manipulation evolves and the citizens become further brainwashed, individuals have a big decision to make, whether to rebel against the Party or betray their old ways of life. The people of Oceania cannot express their true thoughts, emotions, and feelings about the Party for the fear that the Thought Police will catch and turn them in. These negative thoughts obviously exist, but not many individuals are willing to stand up for what they believe in and who they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Charles Darwin to Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde How does Stevenson present duality in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Stevenson presents duality in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in various ways. One of these variations of the duality is among the minor characters, for example Utterson and Enfield. Their similarity is that they are both respectable Victorian gentlemen, that both like to discuss stories but they feel it is gossiping about their friend and say let us make a bargain to never refer to this again , this shows that they feel that they have over stepped the mark and have stumbled upon something that is better left alone, this is also the first mention of a mystery giving us a clue in to the genre. But the novel was also partly based on a play Deacon Brodia (1880) which is about a publicly respectable gentleman but privately a thief and rakehell. The novel had been considered by some people, mainly the higher ranked and important persons of the 19th centaury, as a criticism of Victorian double morality meaning they felt it was presenting a false image of what went on in London. They may have also have felt that it was encouraging other people to do things considered wrong like. This shows duality between the novel and the behaviour in London during the 19th centaury. The novel also creates a lot of tension as you progress through the text. It rises every time something is discovered in the mystery of Hyde which strengthens it s the detective/mystery genre. At the beginning all is calm but as Hyde comes to life, the tension rises. A really damnable man this shows us how much Hyde is hated, but this also shows us where the tension begins to rise. The tension is near enough sky high when the quotes something wrong with his appearance and He must be deformed are used to make the audience worry and wonder what will prevail from the mystery of Hyde. The weather is a ladder for the tension, described as a wild, cold, seasonable night of March ... pale moon this was used when Utterson searched for Hyde, showing us a mysterious side of London. Although it doesn t show much duality, it does play a part in making the novel s mystery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Home Ownership By Millennials Figures lie and liars figure is a quote that means people can turn numbers around to suit their agenda /purposes. Absolute salaries and/or prices may be higher today than in 1997 but that statement does not specify whether it takes into account inflation, paying a larger percentage of health insurance costs or the decrease in other benefits like relocation expenses and tuition reimbursement. So, assuming the statement to be true, is it accurate? The data supporting a slow adoption rate for home ownership by Millennials may be due to financial factors such as increased student loan debt upon graduation or inability to find higher wage jobs to meet debt to income ratios or non financial factors such as job mobility, the ability and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The alternative is to go to a sub prime lender offering high interest rates. Home prices are skyrocketing. It s a seller s market. With higher home prices come higher down payments and higher mortgages. It almost requires a two person income to afford a home. Entering into a legal mortgage contract with someone who is not a significant other is dangerous. With the prevalence of divorce, even buying a home with a life partner is risky business. The partnership deteriorates and there goes the home because one income can t support the debt. Assuming Millennials can overcome the financial factors working against home ownership, then they must look at the non financial factors which are equally as rough to navigate. Start with job mobility. If a Millennial is lucky enough to find a well paying job that will support student loan debts and a mortgage, the job is likely non entry level within an organization. The job may require frequent travel which would decrease time available to maintain one s house. The job may require relocation which can be costly if the company is not picking up the cost (and fewer companies are these days). Additionally, technology is creating a more mobile work environment meaning employees don t necessarily have to live near their places of employments any more. • 50. Watching A Disappearing Number in Theater Essay examples Choose one production that you have seen and which you particularly enjoyed and discuss the aspects which made it so successful. A Disappearing Number I went to see a Disappearing Number, in the Theater. The production was performed by Complicite and was directed by Simon McBurney. I really enjoyed this performance. I thought that the mixture of maths and romance as well as the structure of the performance by incorporating the past and the present together, was extremely successful. The most successful aspect of the performance for me were the scene changes. I found that the rotation of the blackboard, center stage, where the actors were able to stoop beneath it in order to enter and exit the stage, was an effective touch to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another really effective aspect to the performance was the use of technology, including sound effects, projections, pod casts and voice overs. The scene which stood out most for me, concerning technology would be the scene where Al is trapped in the lecture theatre. Here, he begins to look through Ruth?s belongings of books, papers and passports. While he is doing this, actions too small to be seen from the audience, a live streaming is being projected up onto the whiteboard behind to show us, as the audience, what he is looking at. Al starts to read a page from a book which has been marked down and as he starts to read a voice over starts reading the same words, quietly at first and as that gradually builds up in volume, Al?s voice decreases in volume till its just the voice over reading out the words from the book. This is one of the first links to the past, a key theme in the performance, as the voice over is the voice of G H Hardy, the great mathematician reading from his own book. We were introduced to the performance by the character Ruth giving a maths lecture, simple at first but then getting extremely difficult to follow, going off on a tangent, using mathematical terminology I had never even heard of. This maths theme carried on throughout the whole performance, making it, from my point of view, the strongest link from the present to the past, as Ruth was wanting to follow in the footsteps of Ramanujan and Hardy.
