What Is The Significance Of The Truman Doctrine
As definition of doctrine, a government policy, especially in the international relations in the world,
the Truman Doctrine had the purpose to ensure the peaceful between the nations and contain the
communism. The Truman Doctrine also was willing to help people by giving economic aid,
weapons, or military aid to maintain their institutions and national integrity against movements that
wanted impose totalitarian regimes over those nations threatened by communism. Truman states
that, those regimes represented a threat to the national security of the United States, and to the
international peace. The Truman Doctrine achieved great results, such as, countries joined to
military alliances and contain the communism. In other words, one could say... Show more content

Taking a Look at Quantitative Easing
During the financial crisis in 2008, the Central Banks (CB) tried to repair the economy by
setting in action an open market operation (OMO). An OMO is where the CB buys short term
bonds to increase the money supply. The CB s across the globe had to use a monetary policy
instead of a fiscal policy, partly due to countries sovereign debt problems . The CB s were
buying short term bonds until the real interest rate fell to zero. When the real interest rate fell to
zero it created liquidity trap. And CBs had to look to unconventional monetary policies to create
a higher output. This paper will seek to answer if unconventional monetary policies, specifically
quantitative easing (QE), were effective on the economy or not. First, this paper will explain
what liquidity trap and how it is relevant. Second, it will explain how QE work. Third, it will
conclude if QE were effective or not. To question whether QE were effective or not it will use
the American economy. This paper will illustrate liquidity trap and QE by using the models: MS
MD, IS LM and AS AD. Liquidity trap is when short term interest rate on short term bonds falls
close to zero or zero and OMO has no affect on the interest rate. When the interest rate are close
or at zero, the demand curve is flat or very elastic, so an increase in the money supply will not
have any affect on the interest rate. The demand curve for money is flat because people are
anticipating a deflation or any negative shock to the economy, and

The Reality of To Kill A Mockingbird Essay
The Reality of To Kill A Mockingbird
The novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, takes place during a racially intense time in history. Harper
Lee s novel was intended to bring a harsh sense of reality to the real world, and demonstrate how it
really was during this time in history. This novel is set in Maycomb, Alabama, somewhere during
the time period of 1925 1935. Times were hard for the citizens of Maycomb during this period,
because of the depression. There are many fictional events in this novel related to non fictional
racial events in history.

Although the actual number of lynchings declined after 1892, the percentage of Black victims
increased. (Gibson 1) There are 2805 documented victims of lynch mobs killed between 1882 and
1930 in ten southern states. Although mobs murdered almost 300 white men and women, the vast
majority of almost 2,500 lynching victims were African American. Of these black victims, 94
percent died in the hands of white lynch mobs. The scale of this carnage means that, on the
average, a black man, woman, or child was murdered nearly once a week, every week, between
1882 and 1930 by a hate driven white mob. (Braziel 1)
On top of lynching, African American s had to deal with hate groups, such as the Klu Klux
Klan. William Joseph Simmons founded the second Ku Klux Klan in 1915 atop Stone
Mountain, Georgia. Middle class whites filled the ranks of the Ku Klux Klan. Many had worked
hard to achieve a measure of economic independence, which they feared they might lose in an
increasingly industrialized society. The typical 1920s Klansman managed or owned a small
business known as a mom and pop store. They feared socialism and loudly denounced anything
considered communist. The Klan achieved considerable political power in several states, including
Indiana, Colorado, and Oklahoma. (Klu Klux Klan 1) Ku Klux Klan membership peaked in early
1924. Total figures depended on who was being

The Television Show Fuller House
The television show Fuller House is a spinoff the original 90s show Full House, which is the
story of the Danny Tanner (the father), who after the sudden loss his wife brings on board the
help of his brother in law and friend to raise three young girls. In Fuller House, the original
female child actors, Dj, Kimmy and Stephanie continue the show living as three single women in
the same San Francisco home all together raising Dj s set of three boys who have just lost their
firefighter father in a bad fire. Barring the exact same plot of the show and its bad jokes, Fuller
House adds Kimmy s tween daughter Ramona as a new character to add some female diversity
to raising children in the modern day. The sitcom/sequel takes you through various lessons every
child must learn, along with new hurdles for the three single women to overcome in 2016
(updating Facebook profile, getting their kids to school, finding adequate babysitters and of
course their dating life). Dj Tanner Fuller, the newly widow, and mother of three boys has to
juggle her job as a veterinarian, dating again and raising her boys fatherless. But have the help
of her sister, Stephanie Tanner, who leaves her career as a DJ in London to help her sister, and

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the most popular movies of all times. It s reach spreads
across generations and countries. At first glance Rocky Horror, as it is commonly referred to, can
seem like a crude movie that s sole purpose is to shock the audience with it s foul language and
sexual content. This is not the case; Rocky Horror brings attention to the genderroles placed on
women and men in society. This message is still important today because more than ever women
and men feel limited in their own bodies.
The opening credits identify to us who fits into what categories. Whilst listen to Richard O Brien
singing the infamous opening song the cast list appears on the screen with the actors name, the
character they play and a gender role they fit into. Dr. Frank n Furter is a scientist, Brad is a hero,
and Magenta is a domestic. Right off the bat we get a sense of how the characters are going to
act in the movie with these titles. The scientist should be smart, feeble and nerdy, the hero will be
strong and not afraid of anything and of course the domestic will be complacent and compliant.
These roles are challenged in the movie. Frank n Furter is in charge, or at least thinks he is, of
everything going on in the house. He is a strong male who is anything but feeble. Brad turns out to
be the one who is the most afraid and unaccepting of what is going on in the house. Whenever Janet

Speech On Single Mom
Shes a single mom so what?
Last week I walked inside a medical office for an interview and listened as a nurse said to a
women, Oh so you re a single mom . The way she said it you could tell she wasn t asking she was
more like oh so your one of those. I never understand the why people minds go afar when speaking
about single mothers. This women goes on to ask did the father just up and leave when he found
out she was pregnant. Looking in the face of that single mother face you can tell she was young
and also a little uncomfortable. I started thinking there are more than one way she could have be
considered a single mother. This women boyfriend/ husband could be deceased, she could have
chosen to me a single mother, or she is going through a divorce either way saying she s a single
mom is not a bad thing.
A few minutes after the women walked away the same who called my name to come in the back.
I walked and I listened as she talked about her husband and kids then asked me if I had any. I
answered her with a simple yes and wanted to drop it. Instead I was asked about my kid and id I
was married while making small talk waiting for two other people. She looks at my ring on my
hand and went on to say how she doesn t understand single mothers and why they would want
that life for their kids. I then start giving her my two cents in the matter, I told her how more
than 57% of families are single mother homes. If this women was like my aunt her husband died
in Iraq before her two son s where even born. Out of that 57% of women only 10% get pregnant
knowing they will be single mothers. She looked at me like I had said something wrong but to me I
was saying everything right.
Then I spoke on how that 10% of women have kids because they know they will be great at
being a parent with or without a partner. From what I read in my classes most women over the
age of 30 get pregnant to be single mothers, there are even support groups to help them. That
make this chose and they look at all the options they have. They can t adopt a kids a single
woman trying to adopt a kid look s bad on paper. So they take the option to have the baby by
themselves paying up to 100 thousand dollars to even conceive a baby. She looked at me when

Tennessee Vs Garner
What citizen can defend himself in court if they are shot dead by a law enforcement officer
even before apprehension? The case of Tennessee v. Garner 471 U.S. 1 (1985) is a highly
significant case in our nation s criminal justice history. This case establishes a current day
guideline for how a citizen s Fourth Amendment rights and a law enforcement officer s pursuit of
a suspect may legally intersect. By interpreting the word seizure under the Fourth Amendment of
the Bill of Rights to include the seizing of the defendant s life. Tennessee v. Garner established
that the use of deadly force might only become applied by law enforcement in instances where the
officer has probable cause to believe the suspect to be a danger to either the public... Show more

Garner 471 U.S. 1 (1985) that under the Fourth Amendment a Police Officer could not legally
seize, take, a potential suspect s life through the use of deadly force unless circumstances warranted
it. It was deemed that only if the officer had probable cause to believe the defendant had committed
a violent crime, was a danger to the community, or a threat to the officer would the officer have
the authority to utilize deadly force to stop the suspect. The United States Supreme Court further
decided that the Tennessee statute was invalid in regards to giving Officer Hymon authorization to
use deadly force in the instance of Edward Garner. The United States Supreme Court stated that
the Tennessee statute originated from a time when many more crimes were punishable by death
than are in present times. Thus it could no longer be interpreted literally in light of changes to the
criminal justice system. Due Process for all citizens is protected by the precedent set in this case;
stating firmly, as it does, that only in instances where an officer has probable cause to believe a
violent crime has occurred or has the potential to happen may said law enforcement officers use
deadly force to deter, or prevent it while apprehending suspects. As stated under the Fourth
Amendment of the Bill of Rights each and every American has protection from unjust

It was a day in 1801, the day when Thomas Jefferson became the third president of the United

one political party to another. The boy from Virginia, born on April 13, 1743, carried on to become
one of the most impactful leaders in the United States. The politician was vice president under John
Adams from 1797 to 1801. In addition, Jefferson had the honor to be the first Secretary of State of

Suffering And Vocation In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
Darkness and desperation consume him. In Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse the protagonist,
Siddhartha, has a life changing experience during his darkest hour and realizes numerous important
lessons during this moment. Throughout the novel, Siddhartha holds a variety of vocations,
experiencing a different lifestyle from each one leading to his understanding of suffering and his
desperation. The pivotal point of the book occurs during Siddharthas darkest hour when he
contemplates suicide by the river. During this moment, Siddhartha learns to look within for answers
and unifies himself with the universe. While learning the ways of business from Kamaswami,

Acting as a spiritual guide, Vasudeva teaches Siddhartha to learn from the river, which
realistically is Siddhartha for all aspects of life are unified. The two ferrymen come to think of
the river as ... the voice of life, the voice of Being, of perpetual Becoming (Hesse 88). The river
holds all the answers Siddhartha needs, including how to find love, gratitude and unity, while
serving as his spiritual guide to Nirvana. When Little Siddhartha leaves Siddhartha to follow his
own path, just as Siddhartha had done to his father, he uses two lessons that he learns from the
river to heal his wounded heart: patience and listening. These lessons bring him closer to
enlightenment and help him discover ... that love is the most important thing in the world (Hesse
119). This is the last lesson Siddhartha needs to learn before reaching Nirvana. Great irony resides
in the fact that Siddhartha contemplates suicide by the river and reaches enlightenment there too,
because when he contemplates ending his life, he awakens and begins a new life of universal unity

`` Our Story `` By Susan Griffin
In many places throughout the world there are rigid top down cultures and theories on education.
These cultures have been seen in World War II Germany, in literature, and in education. It has been
shown throughout history that these cultures can and will cause many problems to fester as a
result. These issues include the manufacturing of sheep like masses that simply follow what they
are told and taught, the culturelosing its ability to distinguish between what is morally right and
wrong, and the forced masking of emotions and true feelings. The only way to prevent a culture
from simply manufacturing sheep like masses is by encouraging people to not be afraid to stand
out in a crowd and allowing, and even embracing, free thinking.
In Our Story by Susan Griffin there is a complex story involving Heinrich Himmler that she uses
to explain exactly how rigid top down societies and an expectation to be normal can cause a
culture to lose its ability to think critically on a subject. Her first example describes how
Himmler grew up in German in the early 20th century, and how it affected his life and the course
of history. In that time the culture of Germany was of strong patriarchal values and held an
expectation of men to be a strong and masculine image. The problem with this expectation and
Himmler is that Himmler did not fit this image. As a child he was labeled frail and vulnerable,
which was not acceptable in German culture at this time. Because of this he always felt

An Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House
There is a problem in present day with regard; towards sexism. Sexism is the act of one gender
putting down the opposite gender as inferior. In this topic men putting down women as frail and
weak minded. In the early nineteenth century in the United States there are ideas of traditionalism
that survive today. Traditionalism is the old belief that all men, notably the oldest should be the
head of the household and that women should be homemakers. These ideas of women still being
weak mentally have brought great opposition to the idea of a female president. Traditionalist
opposition has women body shamed into the fixed standard of beauty being the skinny Caucasian
blonde. People still look down on women in troubled relationships as being their fault. Henrik
Ibsen s A Doll House puts into criticism the problems brought by traditionalism though the story
between Torvald and Nora. Where Nora has to keep a secret how she saved her husband s life to
save her marriage, because she fears a woman helping a man would shame him into leaving her.
Charlotte Perkins Gilmans short tale The Yellow Wallpaper also criticizes traditionalism and argues
the ideals of traditionalism encourage sexism and is damaging towards women. The story is
narrated by an unnamed protagonist going through a slow descent into madness through her
journal, which insinuates her husband, a physician is encouraging her madness. What these two
writings illustrate is that the old traditional beliefs are

Sleep And Non Rem Sleep
Sleep effects every living organism on the world, whether it is positive or negative it has an
impact on everyone. There are many different stages of sleep and each containing its own
purpose. Sleep isn t as simple and unnecessary as many believe it to be; sleep has the power to
cause many different disorders and can even cause death if a person is deprived from sleep for
too long. Sleep can also effect the brain and how the brain functions on a daily basis. Sleep is an
important factor of life that should not be over looked. If enough sleep occurs there are many
advantages that can make one s life more healthy and beneficial. There are distinctive stages of
sleep REM sleep and non REM sleep and about every ninety minutes we cycle through four
recognizable sleep stages (Myers D 2014). Non REM sleep consists for 3 different stages and
during each stage it contains its own purpose. Stage one occurs for about 10 minutes and is
when a person is lightly sleeping and can be woken up very easily (Mastin 2013). Muscles are
still active and movement occurs more frequently such as twitches and the eyes roll around at a
slow pace and breathing and heart rates slow down (Mastin 2013). Stage two happens between
45 50 percent of the night at different intervals (Mastin 2013). Muscle activity decreases and it is
harder to wake up during this stage; if sounds are heard they are no longer able to make sense of
them (Mastin 2013). The last stage: stage three which is also called delta

class of recruits.
Before this could happen there were a few problems on the camp that the recruits had to
overcome. One of which being Colonel Von Kimble. As the commanding officer on the base, he
oversaw the day to day operations of the entire base including, the training regimen and schedule
of the current recruits. Von Kimble was a white man that was not very supportive of the program

The Distinction Of Soul And Body In Socrates s Phaedo
In Phaedo, Socrates uses the soul and body to express the distinction between the forms and
appearances. Socrates describes the soul as divine, deathless, intelligible, uniform, indissoluble,
always the same as itself, whereas the body is most like that which is human, mortal, multiform,
unintelligible, soluble, and never consistently the same (Phaedo 80b). Furthermore, Socrates
believes there is a future awaits men after death (Phaedo 63c) because it might be a relocating for
the soulfrom here to another place (Apology 40d). Socrates believes the one aim of those who
practice philosophy in the proper manner is to practice for dying and death (Phaedo 64a) because
philosophers are stuck in a kind of prison (Phaedo 62b) struggling to acquire knowledge.... Show

Hence, Socrates concludes the living come from the dead in this way no less than the dead from
the living, and, if that is so, it seems to be a sufficient proof that the souls of the dead must be
somewhere whence they can come back again (Phaedo 72a) and as a result, if anyone recollects
anything, he must have known it before (Phaedo 73c). Socrates uses the example of Equal to
demonstrate that we knew the essence of Equal before birth. Knowing the essence allows people
to [realize] that all these objects strive to be like the Equal but are deficient in this (Phaedo 75a).

than what you might think, some of them are: language choice, code switching, language in

The first aspect that language has is language choice in which, you can choose what kind of

According with Mesthrie R. language in interaction is how speakers use language in interaction
with others, how they hold conversations, tell stories, make jokes, argue or tease one another (2009,

characteristics in Language in interaction:
Construction of identity: it refers to your interaction with others, you construct an identity which
includes your ethnic identity, national identity, cultural identity, gender, age, status etc. And this
construction of identity occurs through face to face interaction. However, not necessarily in every
interaction you construct all of these aspects. An illustration of these would be: when you talk to
others you get a self concept by the way that you act, move, express or talk.
Face to face interaction: refers to when you are talking to others physically present in real time.

Factors Involved In A Collision Repair
If your vehicle has been involved in a collision, you might try to save costs by doing the repairs
yourself, or even neglecting them entirely. Unless you are an expert mechanic, the DIY

all can be even more dangerous, and cost you even more money later on. Here are a few good
reasons to contact Franks auto repair for collision repair:

Third Parties History
Though the 2016 election has come and gone, I m sure that during it you thought: Hillary Clinton
or Donald Trump? Don t like either? Well, were you aware of the other choices? You could
choose a third party candidate. A third party is a political party that is separate from the two major
political parties. Multiple third party candidates ran in the 2016 Presidential Election. Did you
know that any of them existed? Third parties have been a part of American Electionsfrom the
beginning, but have had little success due to the advantages given to major party candidates. In
order to further understand third parties, we will look at the history of third parties in the United
States.

The Republican Party brought attention to slavery, the Socialists to women s suffrage, the
Populist Party to child labor laws, and Ross Perot to the deficit. They have also helped laws such
as the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 come into place. But sadly, major parties steal their
thunder. In most cases, the issues or ideas championed by third parties have been stolen by
candidates of one of the two major parties. (Mott) Third Parties often bring attention to issues
normally ignored by the Major Parties. Major party candidates will then steal these issues, that
may be the platform of the third party, causing their supporters to move to the Major Party. This
can cause third parties to disappear. Other obstacles include, becoming a possible candidate and
receiving government funding for campaigns. When Ralph Nader ran in 2004 he was expected
to get the signatures of 1.5 million people in every state in order to appear on the ballot.
Government funding for campaign are based on the percentage of votes received last election,
some third parties did not run in previous elections do to lack of support or did not exist at the
time. Perhaps the most significant of the obstacles facing third party candidates is the winner
take all system. (Nwazota) In elections the candidate with the highest percentage of votes in each
state receives the electoral votes. This means that a candidate could have widespread appeal but
never receive electoral votes (This is what happened to Ross Perot). From lack of support to unfair
policies it may seem impossible for a third party candidate to win, surprisingly, there is a

Poe And Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston Massachusetts. Poe s parents were
Elizabeth Arnold Poe and David Poe, Jr., both being actors. Poe really never knew his parents
since at a young age his father had left and his mother passed away from tuberculosis when he
was three. Needing a new family and having to leave both of his siblings, Poe joined a new one
with his new parents being John and Frances Valentine Allan, which had a successful family life
and fortune. At the age 13 Poe was already an amazing poet but was discouraged by his father,
saying that he should follow in the family business. Poe then went to college and shined in all of
classes but was soon in trouble when his father wouldn t provide college funds with the correct
amount so Poe was lead into gambling only causing him more debt and a bigger issue when
going home to his father and also facing women troubles Poe moved back to Boston where
around 1827 he had published his first book and joined the military. Poe had only came home
because of his mother who was also dying of tuberculosis and while there Poe had made peace
with his father and attended a Military Academy. Soon after joining the Academy Poe was then
kicked out and fought even more with his father causing his father to disown him and never talk to
him again. Poe had then moved and started to focus more on his writing and since then he had
published his third book. A couple years later his father had died leaving his name out of the

A Short Note On Combat Mission Ready ( Cmr ) Pilots...
B 2 Combat Mission Ready (CMR) pilots require a Companion Trainer Program (CTP) to increase
peacetime and tactical airmanship and combat readiness. The T 38A is currently flown at
Whiteman AFB, Mo, as part of a CTP. As the T 38A continues to age out, Whiteman AFB will be
required to find a suitable replacement trainer. Although there have been some measures taken to
extend the service life of the T 38A, there has been continuous issues regarding maintenance due to
the age of the aircraft. While there have been other studies performed on this topic, they have been

While other units have upgraded, Whiteman has taken measures to extend the T 38A service
life, but continuously been faced with maintenance issues and part availability for an aging
aircraft. The studies that have been accomplished have validated the overall need for companion
trainers, however, there has been limited studies conducted that focused on the tactical relevance
of a companion trainer. This study builds on the previous requirements defined for a B 2
companion trainer, and adds tactical requirements in order to recommend a solution that
achieves both objectives. The Nature of the Problem This research is necessary because T 38s
are aging out at all units. The T 38A at Whiteman AFB, MO, currently reaches its end of service
life in 2028. Currently, the B 2s end of service is 2058, which highlights the urgent requirement
for a replacement trainer. B 2 pilots fly limited sorties due to the size of the B 2 fleet and the
nature of stealth aircraft. Stealth aircraft require specific Low Observable (LO) maintenance
which is both time consuming and costly. Due to the limited sorties, B 2 pilots have utilized a
CTP since 1993 to provide additional time necessary for crews to maintain flight currency and
continue to develop airmanship skills . In 2011, an independent study was performed by Michal

My favorite quote from They Say/I Say belonged to the Agree But with a Difference section: In a
culture like America s that prizes originality, independence, and competitive individualism, writers
sometimes don t like to admit that anyone else has made the same point, seemingly beating them
to the punch. In our view, however, as long as you can support a view taken by someone else
without merely restating what he or she has said, there is no reason to worry about being original. I
purposefully chose this quote because I believe that I can share some significant knowledge from
my field, and support this statement. Research interested in social psychology showed that since

Stereotypes In Language Arts
Language arts Essay
The definition of stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a
particular type of person or thing. Many characters are stereotyped in this novel because of the
image of god and the beliefs of blasphemies. Joseph is stereotyped very well, some examples are
cold hearted, strong willed and bad tempered. Joseph is David s father, is the priest of the town, he
is strongly against blasphemies.
Cold hearted describes Joseph as a very abusive father and has no sympathy for his son David.
When Sophie s secret was let out David had a huge secret to hold for everyone mainly against his
father who is against blasphemies, later in the story Sophie s 6 toes secret gets let out and her family

David why he was out and what s going on. David responds as I don t know trying to hide Sophie s

Definition Of Burden And Standard Of Proof
Burden and Standard of Proof
The expression of burden of proof is the obligation to prove. There are two principal kinds of
burden, legal burden and the evidential burden. The legal burden
The legal burden is referred as the burden of proof. The legal burden may be defined as the
obligation imposed on a party by a rule of law to prove a fact in issue. Generally the claimant will
bear the legal burden of proving each element of his claim, in which he has to present his evidence
first. Thus, the claimant can only discharge his legal burden of proof once the defendant has
presented his case. However, the claimant will not know if they have been successful in
discharging the legal burden until the judge has given the judgement at the very end of the case.
Failure to discharge the burden of proof, the claimant will not have a case to put forward.
The evidential burden
As Lord Bingham has stated in Sheldrake , an evidential burden is not a burden of proof. It is a
burden of raising, on the evidence in the case, an issue as to the matter in question fit for
consideration by the tribunal of fact .
The evidential burden is referred as the burden of adducing evidence and the duty of passing the
judge. In a criminal trial, the prosecution will bear the evidential burden.
The prosecution must adduce sufficient evidence for the judge to not withdraw the case. Thus, even
if the prosecution has discharged the evidential evidence, it does not mean the accused will lose. The

Asylums In 1800s
The treatment of mental illness has gone through many reforms over the years. Stemming from
some of the earliest documented cases of treatment such as trephination in 5000 B.C. to the opening
of mental asylums starting in the late 1300s to the development of the modern healthcare system.
Through the 1800s until now, major developments in mental health treatment include the evolution
of the mental asylum, widespread psychopharmacology, and psychotherapy treatments. Primarily
focusing on the treatment methods of the past two hundred or so years, the United States of
America has made leaps and bounds to provide humane treatment to aid those in need. The most

pushed in the deinstitutionalization movement (Nevid, Rathus, Green, 2014). This was a push to
remove patients from state run hospitals into a more community based treatment center. In most
cases today, there are treatment plans in place depending upon the severity of the disorder an

The Security Of The Homeland Security Enterprise Essay
The homeland security enterprise has progressed much in the past few decades, especially after the
attack on September 11th. It has been necessary for the DHS to grow and adapt as new and more
dangerous threats became known. However, as more threats are prevented successfully, newer and
sometimes tougher challenges for the DHS arise. In an effort to pinpoint the most important things
affecting the nation, strategic plans are used, sometimes in the form of multi missions plans, in
order to separate different jobs to focus on. Since it is the duty of homeland securityto keep the
American people safe, but also feel safe, it is important that the public remains confident in the
DHS. It may be questioned, but the DHS has the capability to identify and handle future
challenges that may arise. But, it cannot be at the expense of the American public s civil
liberties. It may be difficult to walk that fine line, but it is imperative that the DHS does in order
to keep the country safe. The ability to identify future challenges is paramount for the DHS. In
order to do this, adequate collection and analysis of intelligence, both foreign and domestic, is
necessary. Once this intelligence is gathered, a strategic plan can begin to be developed in order to
address new challenges and threats facing the country. The fact that the country, and world, is
constantly in flux introduces the need for the plan to be variable. Homeland security has a strategic

African American Women In Prison
When individuals are sent to prison, many are forgotten, disregarded, and deemed worthy of being
there. The high stress environment is simply unlivable for many Americans and the exploitation of
the prison system is used to steer many in the right direction. However, the mental health of these
prisoners, especially female prisoners, is more ignored than ever. Research findings reveal the need
for advocating and help to these women. The rate of men going to prisonis increasing by 2.7%,
however, the rate for women going to prison is increasing by 4.8% showing a greater disparity

With the authors of this journal being registered nurses and having seen the first hand accounts of
these disparities, how these cries continued to be ignored. With these female inmates coming from
low income backgrounds, being often undereducated, and having few work skills (Hatton and
Fisher, 1305), many of the stresses of life added on to the societal expectations of women can
easily manifest into a valid psychological defect that can hinder them for the rest of their lives.
Reports also show extensive histories of childhood and adult violence, including both physical and
sexual assault (Hatton and Fisher, 1305), adding to the stressors, and causing an even worse decline
in mental health. Yet, the lack of awareness and/or contributions to a fixable solution is as prevalent
as mental illness amongst these imprisoned women. The goal of these institutions should be
rehabilitation of these individuals, giving them a second chance, though it has fallen from its
original purpose and now has become about control and power.
Like many issues in America, the conversation is yet to be had about the mental health of women

son about perseverance and determination by using the image of a staircase. She explains that even
though life has given her many hardships, she continues forward and she urges her son to do the
same. In Mother to Son, Langston Hughesuses an extended metaphor, imagery, dialect, and
structure to paint a picture of a weary mother who wants her son to persevere through the

A staircase that is broken would not be in a wealthy person s home, so this also shows us that she
is poor. In the 1920 s, which was when this poem was written, many African Americans were
moving from the South into the cities for a chance at making a living. Most of them were very
poor and lived in poverty, which is why the staircases would be broken down, bare, and no
carpet. The title, Mother to Son, tells us that this is a mother giving her son advice. Langston
Hughes opens the poem by saying, Well, son, I ll tell you: (1), which could mean that the son
had asked her about her life or that maybe he was complaining about his current struggles. The
mother then begins to tell her son that her life has not been easy, but she never gives up and she
urges her son to do the same: So boy, don t you turn back. Don t you set down on the step Cause
you finds it s kinder hard. Don t you fall now
The mother is telling her son that he should never turn around or sit down just because it gets
tough, and she uses herself as an example. You can see the determination that this mother has.
She keeps trying and persevering through her troubles, even when it seems like there is no hope,

to be. As she endures her altered life, Amanda occupies herself by babysitting her student Nathaniel.
Amanda uses irony, dark humor, and juxtaposition as a coping mechanism; instead of facing the
new life she has to live, she uses sardonic reflection to elongate her mourning period.
When Amanda digs up memories of her ex fiancГ©, her timing and choice of anecdote help her
wallow in rejection for longer. Reflecting on her breakup, she says We had too many differences...
For example, I loved him and he didn t love me (Goodman). She proves this with the things she
remembers her fiancГ© saying to her. There are two basic types of ex fiance quotes: insults with
witty retorts from Amanda and compliments contrasted with Amanda s current cynical views. As an
example of the former, while spending time with Nathaniel, Amanda thinks of her fiance s cutting
words: It s hard to be with you, her fiancГ© had said. I feel like I m suffocating. Open a window,
Amanda had said (Goodman). Instead of living in the moment and enjoying Nathaniel s company,
she insists on dwelling on the past.
Amanda s dark humor applied to her current life makes a mockery of her future. Her ... Show more

By bringing her dress into her 1st grade art class, Amanda allowed the loss of her fiance to incite
the loss of her job. After peeling back an outer layer of literary prose, Amanda is able to reveal to
the reader that Dante s La Vita Nuova details the perfect masochistic love. She then proceeds to
revel in its darkness, responding to a compliment with You re not supposed to say that... You re
supposed to write a sonnet (Goodman). Amanda wants to stay unhappy and unmoving; she admires
a love that is

Body Shapers Can Create The Illusion Of Weight Loss Without
Body shapers help create the illusion of weight loss without actually dieting and exercising.
Body shapers are helpful to women who do not look neat and slim even though their actual
weight is healthy. Some people argue that body shapers may be harmful or a health risk, yet they
do work and do not hurt you if they are worn properly and at the correct size. Women should wear
body shapers because in society people should look nice, neat, and presentable. People should at
least try body shapers for themselves before ruling them out. Women have been wearing body
shaping undergarments for centuries. Modern day body shapers which are sometimes called
spanx, were not introduced until the year 2000. Before there were spanx, there were girdles and
corsets. The first girdles were woven garments that looked like belts. Girdles were used to shape,
reinforce and strengthen the body. The corsets came about around the sixteenth century which were
created with animal bones and then later steel rods. The corsets were tightened by pulling the laces
in the back until the desired hour glass shape was created to the women s waist. Wearing a corset
can also change the bust line, by raising the breasts upwards and shaping them, flattening the
stomach, and improving posture. Indeed, excessive corset wearing has been claimed to weaken
certain muscles, making it more difficult to maintain posture without a corset. The tightening
caused restriction to the organs, especially the lungs causing

Effects Of Adoption
Life Changing Effects of Adoption
What if every child had a home and was part of a loving family? This occurrence is unlikely
because of the constant debate of whether or not adoption is a beneficial option. Some believe that
adoption is more of curse than a blessing. They believe adoption can cause problems for the child
by being raised in a culture unlike their own. On the other hand, adoption can help the child to be
open to the diversity of the world and to be respectful, loving, and compassionate towards those
who are different from them. The effects of adoption on the adopted child is quite positive in most
cases. Being adopted by a loving family, affects the child by giving them a hope for their future, a
firm foundation to stand on, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the child has left for college or even their career path, they receive the blessing of knowing
their family will always be there for them. The family may not have been able to be there for the
child earlier in his or her life but they will make up for it. They will be there for their child for
the rest of his or her life. There is truly nothing like he or she having the ability to call their parents
when life is a lot harder than it seems.
Ultimately, adoption s effects on those who get adopted is all together quite positive. The world
may never see the positive effects and outcomes of adoption but there are some whose lives will
forever be changed by it. How crazy is it to think so many incredible effects come out of just one
daunting and joy filled task? Adoption may be a long process but so was the process of each child
moving from home to home. In the end, adoption leaves an incredible impact not only on the
children getting adopted but those who are a part of this

  • 3. Taking a Look at Quantitative Easing During the financial crisis in 2008, the Central Banks (CB) tried to repair the economy by setting in action an open market operation (OMO). An OMO is where the CB buys short term bonds to increase the money supply. The CB s across the globe had to use a monetary policy instead of a fiscal policy, partly due to countries sovereign debt problems . The CB s were buying short term bonds until the real interest rate fell to zero. When the real interest rate fell to zero it created liquidity trap. And CBs had to look to unconventional monetary policies to create a higher output. This paper will seek to answer if unconventional monetary policies, specifically quantitative easing (QE), were effective on the economy or not. First, this paper will explain what liquidity trap and how it is relevant. Second, it will explain how QE work. Third, it will conclude if QE were effective or not. To question whether QE were effective or not it will use the American economy. This paper will illustrate liquidity trap and QE by using the models: MS MD, IS LM and AS AD. Liquidity trap is when short term interest rate on short term bonds falls close to zero or zero and OMO has no affect on the interest rate. When the interest rate are close or at zero, the demand curve is flat or very elastic, so an increase in the money supply will not have any affect on the interest rate. The demand curve for money is flat because people are anticipating a deflation or any negative shock to the economy, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Reality of To Kill A Mockingbird Essay The Reality of To Kill A Mockingbird The novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, takes place during a racially intense time in history. Harper Lee s novel was intended to bring a harsh sense of reality to the real world, and demonstrate how it really was during this time in history. This novel is set in Maycomb, Alabama, somewhere during the time period of 1925 1935. Times were hard for the citizens of Maycomb during this period, because of the depression. There are many fictional events in this novel related to non fictional racial events in history. Leading the list of racial crimes would be hate crimes, such as lynching. Although the actual number of lynchings declined after 1892, the percentage of Black victims increased. (Gibson 1) There are 2805 documented victims of lynch mobs killed between 1882 and 1930 in ten southern states. Although mobs murdered almost 300 white men and women, the vast majority of almost 2,500 lynching victims were African American. Of these black victims, 94 percent died in the hands of white lynch mobs. The scale of this carnage means that, on the average, a black man, woman, or child was murdered nearly once a week, every week, between 1882 and 1930 by a hate driven white mob. (Braziel 1) On top of lynching, African American s had to deal with hate groups, such as the Klu Klux Klan. William Joseph Simmons founded the second Ku Klux Klan in 1915 atop Stone Mountain, Georgia. Middle class whites filled the ranks of the Ku Klux Klan. Many had worked hard to achieve a measure of economic independence, which they feared they might lose in an increasingly industrialized society. The typical 1920s Klansman managed or owned a small business known as a mom and pop store. They feared socialism and loudly denounced anything considered communist. The Klan achieved considerable political power in several states, including Indiana, Colorado, and Oklahoma. (Klu Klux Klan 1) Ku Klux Klan membership peaked in early 1924. • 6. The Rocky Horror Picture Show The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the most popular movies of all times. It s reach spreads across generations and countries. At first glance Rocky Horror, as it is commonly referred to, can seem like a crude movie that s sole purpose is to shock the audience with it s foul language and sexual content. This is not the case; Rocky Horror brings attention to the genderroles placed on women and men in society. This message is still important today because more than ever women and men feel limited in their own bodies. The opening credits identify to us who fits into what categories. Whilst listen to Richard O Brien singing the infamous opening song the cast list appears on the screen with the actors name, the character they play and a gender role they fit into. Dr. Frank n Furter is a scientist, Brad is a hero, and Magenta is a domestic. Right off the bat we get a sense of how the characters are going to act in the movie with these titles. The scientist should be smart, feeble and nerdy, the hero will be strong and not afraid of anything and of course the domestic will be complacent and compliant. These roles are challenged in the movie. Frank n Furter is in charge, or at least thinks he is, of everything going on in the house. He is a strong male who is anything but feeble. Brad turns out to be the one who is the most afraid and unaccepting of what is going on in the house. Whenever Janet participated in the singing or with what the aliens were doing he would get ... • 7. Speech On Single Mom Shes a single mom so what? Last week I walked inside a medical office for an interview and listened as a nurse said to a women, Oh so you re a single mom . The way she said it you could tell she wasn t asking she was more like oh so your one of those. I never understand the why people minds go afar when speaking about single mothers. This women goes on to ask did the father just up and leave when he found out she was pregnant. Looking in the face of that single mother face you can tell she was young and also a little uncomfortable. I started thinking there are more than one way she could have be considered a single mother. This women boyfriend/ husband could be deceased, she could have chosen to me a single mother, or she is going through a divorce either way saying she s a single mom is not a bad thing. A few minutes after the women walked away the same who called my name to come in the back. I walked and I listened as she talked about her husband and kids then asked me if I had any. I answered her with a simple yes and wanted to drop it. Instead I was asked about my kid and id I was married while making small talk waiting for two other people. She looks at my ring on my hand and went on to say how she doesn t understand single mothers and why they would want that life for their kids. I then start giving her my two cents in the matter, I told her how more than 57% of families are single mother homes. If this women was like my aunt her husband died in Iraq before her two son s where even born. Out of that 57% of women only 10% get pregnant knowing they will be single mothers. She looked at me like I had said something wrong but to me I was saying everything right. Then I spoke on how that 10% of women have kids because they know they will be great at being a parent with or without a partner. From what I read in my classes most women over the age of 30 get pregnant to be single mothers, there are even support groups to help them. That make this chose and they look at all the options they have. They can t adopt a kids a single woman trying to adopt a kid look s bad on paper. So they take the option to have the baby by themselves paying up to 100 thousand dollars to even conceive a baby. She looked at me when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Garner 471 U.S. 1 (1985) is a highly significant case in our nation s criminal justice history. This case establishes a current day guideline for how a citizen s Fourth Amendment rights and a law enforcement officer s pursuit of a suspect may legally intersect. By interpreting the word seizure under the Fourth Amendment of the Bill of Rights to include the seizing of the defendant s life. Tennessee v. Garner 471 U.S. 1 (1985) that under the Fourth Amendment a Police Officer could not legally seize, take, a potential suspect s life through the use of deadly force unless circumstances warranted it. It was deemed that only if the officer had probable cause to believe the defendant had committed a violent crime, was a danger to the community, or a threat to the officer would the officer have the authority to utilize deadly force to stop the suspect. The United States Supreme Court further decided that the Tennessee statute was invalid in regards to giving Officer Hymon authorization to use deadly force in the instance of Edward Garner. The United States Supreme Court stated that the Tennessee statute originated from a time when many more crimes were punishable by death than are in present times. Thus it could no longer be interpreted literally in light of changes to the criminal justice system. Due Process for all citizens is protected by the precedent set in this case; stating firmly, as it does, that only in instances where an officer has probable cause to believe a violent crime has occurred or has the potential to happen may said law enforcement officers use deadly force to deter, or prevent it while apprehending suspects. • 12. `` Our Story `` By Susan Griffin In many places throughout the world there are rigid top down cultures and theories on education. These cultures have been seen in World War II Germany, in literature, and in education. It has been shown throughout history that these cultures can and will cause many problems to fester as a result. These issues include the manufacturing of sheep like masses that simply follow what they are told and taught, the culturelosing its ability to distinguish between what is morally right and wrong, and the forced masking of emotions and true feelings. The only way to prevent a culture from simply manufacturing sheep like masses is by encouraging people to not be afraid to stand out in a crowd and allowing, and even embracing, free thinking. In Our Story by Susan Griffin there is a complex story involving Heinrich Himmler that she uses to explain exactly how rigid top down societies and an expectation to be normal can cause a culture to lose its ability to think critically on a subject. Her first example describes how Himmler grew up in German in the early 20th century, and how it affected his life and the course of history. In that time the culture of Germany was of strong patriarchal values and held an expectation of men to be a strong and masculine image. The problem with this expectation and Himmler is that Himmler did not fit this image. As a child he was labeled frail and vulnerable, which was not acceptable in German culture at this time. In this topic men putting down women as frail and weak minded. In the early nineteenth century in the United States there are ideas of traditionalism that survive today. Traditionalism is the old belief that all men, notably the oldest should be the head of the household and that women should be homemakers. These ideas of women still being weak mentally have brought great opposition to the idea of a female president. Traditionalist opposition has women body shamed into the fixed standard of beauty being the skinny Caucasian blonde. People still look down on women in troubled relationships as being their fault. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House puts into criticism the problems brought by traditionalism though the story between Torvald and Nora. Where Nora has to keep a secret how she saved her husband s life to save her marriage, because she fears a woman helping a man would shame him into leaving her. Charlotte Perkins Gilmans short tale The Yellow Wallpaper also criticizes traditionalism and argues the ideals of traditionalism encourage sexism and is damaging towards women. Many characters are stereotyped in this novel because of the image of god and the beliefs of blasphemies. • 30. Definition Of Burden And Standard Of Proof Burden and Standard of Proof The expression of burden of proof is the obligation to prove. There are two principal kinds of burden, legal burden and the evidential burden. The legal burden The legal burden is referred as the burden of proof. The legal burden may be defined as the obligation imposed on a party by a rule of law to prove a fact in issue. Generally the claimant will bear the legal burden of proving each element of his claim, in which he has to present his evidence first. Thus, the claimant can only discharge his legal burden of proof once the defendant has presented his case. However, the claimant will not know if they have been successful in discharging the legal burden until the judge has given the judgement at the very end of the case. Failure to discharge the burden of proof, the claimant will not have a case to put forward. The evidential burden As Lord Bingham has stated in Sheldrake , an evidential burden is not a burden of proof. It is a burden of raising, on the evidence in the case, an issue as to the matter in question fit for consideration by the tribunal of fact . The evidential burden is referred as the burden of adducing evidence and the duty of passing the judge. In a criminal trial, the prosecution will bear the evidential burden. The prosecution must adduce sufficient evidence for the judge to not withdraw the case. Thus, even if the prosecution has discharged the evidential evidence, it does not mean the accused will lose. It has been necessary for the DHS to grow and adapt as new and more dangerous threats became known. However, as more threats are prevented successfully, newer and sometimes tougher challenges for the DHS arise. In an effort to pinpoint the most important things affecting the nation, strategic plans are used, sometimes in the form of multi missions plans, in order to separate different jobs to focus on. Since it is the duty of homeland securityto keep the American people safe, but also feel safe, it is important that the public remains confident in the DHS. It may be questioned, but the DHS has the capability to identify and handle future challenges that may arise. But, it cannot be at the expense of the American public s civil liberties. It may be difficult to walk that fine line, but it is imperative that the DHS does in order to keep the country safe. The ability to identify future challenges is paramount for the DHS. In order to do this, adequate collection and analysis of intelligence, both foreign and domestic, is necessary. Once this intelligence is gathered, a strategic plan can begin to be developed in order to address new challenges and threats facing the country. The fact that the country, and world, is constantly in flux introduces the need for the plan to be variable. Homeland security has a strategic plan for the fiscal years 2014 ... Most of them were very poor and lived in poverty, which is why the staircases would be broken down, bare, and no carpet. Langston Hughes opens the poem by saying, Well, son, I ll tell you: (1), which could mean that the son had asked her about her life or that maybe he was complaining about his current struggles. The mother then begins to tell her son that her life has not been easy, but she never gives up and she urges her son to do the same: So boy, don t you turn back.
