Assess The Causes And Consequences Of The Civil War
Assess the causes and consequences of the civil war (49 45) in this period Civil war Argument
in topic sentence The Roman Republic was a system of procedures formed by tradition; there
was no written constitution or legally binding legislation. Precedent and consensus set
procedure creating the parameters for acceptable behaviour. However, it was near the end of the
2nd century BC, where the system began to deteriorate and fall, ultimately causing the civil war
in 49 BC. The boundaries of acceptable behaviour were stretched by politicians such as Caesar
and Pompey and as a result new perilous precedents were set. Violence along with the use of an
army became a political tool in the domestic, political sphere. The civil war laid on the foundations
that constitutional methods proved ineffective in the face of an inadequate aristocratic government
and therefore Caesar and the senate lead by Pompey used violence and rebellion against each
other in an attempt to stabilise the administrative system of government and essentially control
Rome. Caesar himself ignited the civil war as a result of the unstable Roman Republic, major
events such as rebellion and revolts, senate and the political sphere and the breakdown of the
triumvirate, which fuelled the motive for civil war. The corrupted Roman system alongside with
personal issues and disagreements became the catalyst for the civil war of 49 BC and consequently
set the parameters for the new dictatorial Roman world. Causes The

Making a Suitable Environment for Your Disabled Child
Children with disabilities will make a significant improvement in their skills if they live in
comprehensive and inclusive environment for them. Inclusive environment will benefit the child in
several ways. The primary goal of creating an inclusive environment is to involve the disabled child
with their peers, family, and the outside world. The suitable environment will support them by
making modification and training on their behavior and attitude. Therefore, they will be prepared
to life s experiences and daily life activities.
A special needs child s early years are different as his later years. Inclusive environment is what
makes the difference in the child s development. The development is achieved through several
settings and strategies. Home environment and interaction with the family will build a strong base
of personality and behavioral aspects for the child s first years. Afterward school environment starts
to intervene and affect a child s intellectual and learning skills. As well as a playground and
activities which include social communication and behavior skills. Therefore, providing facilities
and inclusive environment for disabled children will make them learn to interact with non disabled
children and develop their skills. A suitable environment for special needs children is created in the
school, house, and playground.
First, school is the main source for promoting skills for disabled children. The school environment

Tobio s Astro Boy
after what they are interested in. If it were not for the viewer knowing that Astro Boy is a robot,
one would not to be able to tell that he is any different than a real boy. Furthermore, in regards to
him showing feelings, a key indicator of a soul, it is present throughout the first episode how much
he cares about his creator/father. Astro Boyas a whole is created for the primary purpose of
replacing Tobio, who is the dead son of Dr. Tenma. As a result, he does anything he can into
reassuring Dr.Tenma that he is Tobio, whether if it means eating real food, when he technically
can not taste or enjoy it, or trying to fit in as a regular boy. Astro Boy brings truth to the concept
of doing whatever one has to do in order of making the people one slove happy. To love means...

Moreover, robots have one to several jobs, that they try to accomplish without any attachment or
effects whatsoever to them in return. However, in Astro Boy s case his job is to serve as a
replacement, yet he does get emotionally effected by this when he fails or when Dr. Tenma is
not happy with him. In the beginning, all Tobio wanted from his father was his love and
affection. To simply be noticed or spent time with, is all Tobio desired. Similarly all Astro Boy
wanted was to please his father or to be accepted by him, yet too was let down. As a result Tobio
was sadden by this as it is normal for a human to feel this in response to rejection, especially
when a boy receives this from his father. However, Astro Boy, a robot, follows in his footsteps as
it becomes visible that he is emotionally hurt by this rejection as well. For instances, there is a
scene on the ship in episode 1 where Astro Boy makes a mess of things at dinner and Dr, Tenma
retaliates on him in anger (18.10). Two things can be taken away from this scene, first the fact that
in immediate response of witnessing the anger, Astro Boy says I m very sorry dad.

Coco Chanel s Impact On Women
Imagine walking down the streets of Paris in 1921 and walking by a young beautiful woman
dressed in a simple black dress. While you walk by her you get a whiff of a smell, a smell like no
other in 1921. It was the smell of a strong woman and not a flower bed, that was the smell of
Chanel No. 5 the perfume that put Coco Chanelon the map. The big question is, who was Coco
Chaneland what was her big impact on women in society in the early 1920 s. What made it
successfully into such a worldwide known brand? Chanel started in Paris, France in the year 1910
the brand did not take off until her release of Chanel No.5 in 1921. Coco Chanel the owner

Vehicle Identification Number
The best way to purchase a car is to compare more than one car and weigh out the pros and cons of
each vehicle. Depending on your needs and financial abilities, you will have to decide whether to
get a new car or used car. If you decide to buy a used car then you will have a lot of things to do
before you buy it. For example, you have to make sure you can afford the cost of the car and
know the basics of that car, such as mileage and what repairs it needs.
You would also have to do background check on the car. This means investigating the history of a
car using its VehicleIdentification Number using the services of Kelly Blue Book. If you do this
you will discover a lot of information concerning whether the car has been involved in accidents,

found this one we really liked the outside looked great to start fresh. We wanted to see on the
inside so we made a time to go in. Right before we went in, the owner told us how great shape
the house was well when we got into the house it smelled bad the walls was yellow there was
stains in the carpet and rat crap everywhere it was just so nasty half of the doors didn t open

The Philip Morris Tobacco Company Essay
Phillip Morris
Phillip Morris
The Philip Morris tobacco company started in 1847 on a small street in London (Sanders, Wisse,
Van, 2015). One of the primary goals is to be a socially creditworthy company, at both local and
global level. Consequently this is the reason Philip Morris had passion for social performance.
They began as a very small family business specializing in hand rolled cigarettes. In 1902, the
company moved to New York City and merged. Even though the company stayed small by 1960 it
was the sixth largest company in the United States. The company acquired popularity using their
Marlboro Man advertising campaign. The Marlboro Man brought Phillip Morris to the top of the
industry. Marlboro used the image of a rugged cowboy enjoying a cigarette on horseback quickly
adapt men into enjoying their brand. The success of the advertisement was incredible. In 1954
Marlboro sales accounted for $154 million in cigarette sold (Stevenson, Proctor, 2008). Phillip
Morris growth was rapid in the United States in 1983. Manufacturers could not understand how
ammonia improved the taste of tobacco. The tobacco company discovered that ammonia would
also increase the tobacco volume in cigarettes. From there, the company began to grow into other
businesses expanding on its outside market. Philip Morris accepted Miller Brewing Company,
General Foods, Kraft and the merger between South African Breweries with Miller Brewing. In
2003 Philip Morris Companies changed its name to

The Life and Mission of David Livingstone
David Livingstone s life began on March 19th, 1813, in the town of Blantyre, South Lanarkshire,
Scotland. He had six siblings. David could recite Psalm 119, at the age of 9. At the age of 10,
David began to be employed at the cotton mill of H. Monteith and Co, where he worked 12 to
14 hour days, 6 days a week, as a piecer, with his older brother John. A piecer is a young child that
crawls through the giant looms, to watch for broken threads. When the threads break, it is their
job to quickly tie them back together. Around the time David began working, a law was passed
requiring factories and mills to teach children that were 12 and under. However, the law sadly
did not state when they had to hold classes, so more often than not the business owner would
supply classes from 8 to 10 P.M, after the children had already worked their shifts. Many children
did not take advantage of the free classes, but David did. He would force himself to stay awake
and focus, just so that he could learn. Two years later, plants and herbs caught David s interest.
He owned a botany book, which he studied with care, even though his father would not of
allowed it because it was science. At this time in the world, people believed that science and
Christianity could not go together because that would be questioning why God made things the
way He made them. However, David studied science anyway. There came a time in his life that he
had a choice to make. Science or Religion. He had to

Poe Vs Usher
I see numerous variances and parallels concerning Edgar Allen Poe s The Fall of the House of
Usher and The Purloined Letter, as well as the overall appeal of the story it has to me. Poe uses
the main character as the speakers but he is nameless. This entire account is told in the first person
view since the speaker does partake in the action of the story. I realized that what the storyteller is
observing and witnessing the events. I examined the credibility of the circumstances. Poe
undoubtedly doesn t give the character a name because not all good tales need them to progress the
plot and express the important fragments of the story. Labels are made so the characters can see

Another idiosyncrasy to ponder here is Roderick s association with the speaker. He doesn t
distinguish this guy that well like I picture myself with my close friends. The narrator said, As
boys, we had been even intimate associates, yet I really knew little of my friend. His reserve had
been always excessive and habitual. They seem more like associates than childhood friends
since they haven t seen or spoken to one other in years! Usher observably recounts are strong

was busied in earnest endeavors to alleviate the melancholy of my friend. While Usher himself
positions that understandings of a just clear nature had continuously ensued between them
When she dies, his behavior transformed to one of edginess character I have ever read about.
Madeline seems to be one entity to Usher but also his was interconnected to the manor as well.
The crack splits the family. Roderick and Madeline die, terminating the clan. The speaker says
there is a wild inconsistency between still perfect adaptations and the collapsing state of the
different stones. This is symbolic to me. The stones symbolize the different member of the Usher
family, and the whole mansion represents the family. The temperaments created in each story are
totally unalike. The Fall of the House of Usher comes off as an unusually low spirited impression
with every detail adding to the disheartening vision. The story, impressions of fear raises, partly
because Poe is infamous for it his melancholic dismay tales, however frequently for the actual
prediction. The introductory portrayals the day as During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless

The Death Of The Author By Roland Barthes And Michel Foucault
Throughout many different mediums such as literature and music there have been many
controversial pieces written in regards to the true meaning and purpose of authorship. Several
French philosophers such as Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault have written essays on the
purpose of authorship. Roland Barthes, writer of The Death of the Author , has a strong belief in
the removal of the author from a piece. Barthes believed that once a book has been written there is
no more author but instead a scriptor and text which are both born simultaneously. Meaning that the
text is a living tissue for the scriptor(reader) to interpret for themselves, leaving a text with multiple
meanings dependent on a scriptors interpretation. On the other hand, French philosopher, Michel
Foucaultbelieved that the author is a key aspect to a written work. He believed that without an
author a work would have no true meaning in essence leaving everything up for debate which
ultimately results in confusion. Foucault also believed that removing the author from a text
serves no purpose and as such, should not be done. Similarly, an author is a very important
aspect in music as well because musicians are able to bridge gaps between them and their
listeners through lyricism. Artists are able to do this by incorporating narratives in their music
allowing them to narrate their lives which may include hardships and difficulties that they have
gone through, which allows for connections to be made between the author and a listener who
has gone through the same experiences. For example, artists such as 21 Savage speak about
gang violence and poverty in their music which allows them to shed light on such issues in
order to raise public awareness. The rap artist 21 Savage, also known as 21, has written many
songs which have very deep lyrical meanings to them. For example 21 Savage wrote the song
Famous in which he describes his life prior to and after his rise to fame. In the song 21 Savage
discusses how he used to be less fortunate but is now doing well by stating the following, Rags to
riches, n***a came from the bottom/Hood rats, now a n***a f***in on models/Ridin in the
foreign, remember ridin on MARTA (21 Savage). In the above lyrics,

Autistic Children Essay
Throughout my research, I have discovered that all autistic children have specific individualized
characteristics and that both programs are equally stressful because both require IEP for their
students even though special education has it for all and not just a fraction of their children. A
successful special educationprogram requires research supported practices that include
individualized assessment of a child s skills and strengthens, interests, and needs. It includes intense
treatment, low adult child ratios, and highly structured and individualized intervention programs
and its goal would be to improve and increase the child s social and language skills as well as to

But based on the research conducted this is only proven under certain conditions. The main
condition is that integration should be based on the individual needs of the student. This means that
child movement relies solely on social and academic readiness. Socal readiness is characterized by
impairments in social interactions, communication, and behavior. Some social issues include the
dislike for being touched, the inability to look others in the eye, being more interested in objects
than people, and not being able to make friends or play with others. When it comes to
communication these individuals have the inability to socialize properly, and difficulty with verbal
and nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication is defined as the understanding of body
language, gestures, and facial expressions. Repetitive behavior, commonly identified in individuals
with OCD, can also be found in the autistic children. This causes these individuals to have impulses

Life is full of inexhaustible possibilities, though in order to convert a possibility into a reality,
common day people have to make decisions. Often times, people would coin this as a sacrifice.
Whether it be for religious purposes, non religious sacrifices are made each day around the world.
Religious examples would be when people refuse to seek medical attention when ill because they
believe that Godwill heal them if they are meant to be cured, some people will even try to mimic
sacrifices the Holy Bible writes about. An example of a non religious sacrificewould be when

modern times, human sacrifices are still being made around the world. For instance, an occult

shrivelling crops. It is not only this group of people who will make human sacrifices, but also
people who follow the religion of Hindu will make human sacrifices, as well as animal sacrifices,
to please their Gods and bring them good luck. These types of sacrifices are more common in
nations such as India and various countries throughout Africa and the most practice form of
sacrifices are far more nonbelligerent; such as a person s church, or place where they practice
their religion, closes so they move to where a new one could be found. In doing so, this person

What Is The Comparison Of The Magnificent Seven And Seven...
The films, The Magnificent Seven , and, Seven Samurai , essentially portray the same events in
action, especially in the introductory scene. However, The Magnificent Seven , portrays the
western version while Seven Samurai takes place in an eastern village. The films also choose a
different order to show events and to go about each event. They do, however, portray the same
basic idea: an innocent villagefaces bandits who have no intentions besides pillaging and stealing
all belongings from the villagers, even if death of villagers must come from their intentions. The
scene I have chosen to compare between the two films is the introduction scene. I have chosen to
analyze and compare this scene from each film because while they show direct similarities in
events as well as camera angles, the films differ in many ways as well. The scene in, The
Magnificent Seven, begins with the bandits riding in on horses over a hill top towards a village
to the tune of peppy western music. This scene is shot as a far away angle and is done so with
no verbal communication, almost as if the bandits all have one common goal and they do not
have to discuss with one another to know that is their intentions. This leads to the viewer being
required to view the scene as a whole and consider what the intentions of these men must be and
why they feel that way. When the men arrive to the village, the viewer is given little to no
information regarding the village. The viewer then begins to wonder: Who are these people? ,
Did they do something to deserve this? , Maybe they know each other personally. The bandits
then approach the villagers as if they own the place . They are asking for drinks, sitting down as
they please, and even taking as they wish. The villagers seem to go along with this as though they
are used to it and intend to fully comply. This can be seen through the conversation between the
bandit and villagerwhere the villager talks very quietly, slurring his words, and telling the bandit
what he wants to hear. The bandits then begin to leave as a villager runs after the bandits with
intentions of standing up to them, almost to be leading the village to rebell. The bandits quickly
show they will not stand for this

My Life For A Small Group Program
It always seemed a bit clichГ© when people speak or write on specific events that change how
they viewed themselves and their world. At the surface, I often discard comments of people
who see just one event changing their lives for (typically) better or worse. Events are not alone,
but are part of a system of chances and choices made by ourselves or others. These choices come
together and form what we perceive as a singular event. Despite this rather cold and analytical
belief, I always secretly envied people who have these interventions in their everyday lives. The last
major event for me occurred a number of years ago when I was robbed of two people who I loved

Something within me called to put on the tefillin. It is important to mention that the last time I

Star Basketball Player By John Updike
In the poem Ex Basketball Player, John Updike recounts the timeline of a once great basketball
player named Flick Webb. The journey starts with a description of Flick s hometown, then shares
details about his current job, next it reflects on his high school basketball success, and finishes
with his habits outside of work. In the first stanza, the poet is describing the town where Flick
lives. Updike references trolley tracks which would imply an early 20th century setting. He also
calls out the name of the garage specifically, Berth s Garage. This implies that Flick lives in a
small town because small towns named their gas stations after the owner, unlike big cities. In the
third stanza, he talks about Flick playing high schoolbasketball. Updike goes on to mention that in
one season he scored three hundred and ninety points, a county record. The third stanza talks
about how magnificent Flick was at basketball. The narrator indicates that he witnessed at least
one such game when he noted, I saw him rack up thirty eight or forty in one home game
(Updike, 17 18). The countermotion of the poem occurs in the fourth stanza, which starts out by
stating, He never learned a trade, he just sells gas (19). In this line of the poem, Updike reveals
the tone of the narrator as sad and disappointed. With no education to fall back on, when a
professional basketball career does not come about, Flick spends his life working at a gas station.
The former player s current life is described

Atticus Finch A Good Character In To Kill A Mockingbird

But do people strive for a good character? A character that people notice and respect? This is a

Jem harassed his house. One cold fall night Scout and Jim were walking home when the heard

Literary Devices In The Jabberwocky And The Lorax
The two stories The Jabberwocky and The Lorax, are both similar in the sense the authors use
nonsensical words and other literary devices to enhance parts of their stories. Why do the authors
do these things and how do they affect the story. One thing the two stories have in common is the
way the word usage affects the story. In both The Jabberwockyand the Lorax, they use words to
help the reader depict what is happening. One example from the Lorax would be, I am the Lorax,
he coughed and he whiffed He sneezed and he snuffed, (Seuss ln. 10 11). In this quote he uses
words such as whiffed and snuffled to show the reader that he is having a hard time breathing. This
shows that the word usage in this story affects how the reader interprets different... Show more

In both stories they use figurative language to help the reader understand some details. One
example of this in the Lorax is when, the Lorax talks to the oncles about the waste his is making
from hsi machines. In the text it says, What s more, snapped the Lorax. (His dander was up.) Let
me say a few words about Gluppity Glup, (Seuss ln. 21 22). In this quote the author uses the
word gluppity glup. This word is an example of alliteration. This word also has kind of a dirty
and icky feel to it. This may inform the reader that this stuff is not good and that it is bad and
dirty. One example in the Jabberwocky of the author using sound devices is when the protagonist
battles the Jabberwock. In the text it states, The vorpal blade went snicker snack, (Carroll ln. 18).
This is not only an example of alliteration, but also onomatopoeia. The reader can assume that
snicker snack is the sound of the blade hitting something. This indicates that the sword is hitting the
Jabberwock and that he is probably killing it. This is how the authors use figurative language and
sound devices in their

ERP has the ability to modernize distinctive organizational processes and flow of one task to
another. Likewise it has the ability to readily interconnect information across various departments.
To add on, ERP increases the satisfaction rate of customers thereby providing excellent customer
service. Moreover, ERP enables the management to readily available to the real time information in
order to make the appropriate decisions. ERP improves efficiency, performance and productivity
levels of all the business operations too. The organizations can track and perform better future
forecasting with the help of ERP.
The Value Added Resellers (VARs) is an upcoming segment of cloud computing. Majority of the
most vendors belongs to the category of Small Medium Businesses and they choose to resell cloud

Notting Hill Interview
In early February of 2017, my eighty six year old grandmother fell and broke her arm in two
places. Since then, she has been in a rehabilitation center called the Notting Hill of West
Bloomfield. My family wanted the best care and recovery for my grandmother. After extensive
research, my family found that Notting Hill was rated very highly for its physical and occupational
therapy, and it did. However, from the first day the my grandmother was there, my grandmother,
other familymembers of mine, and I noticed an unfortunate phenomenon that still occurs at this
facility; patients are not being taken care of properly by the nurses and aides. There is a poor

In an interview with PBS, A.C. Thompson discusses his findings when he investigated a
prestigious living facility with high ratings: There was a pattern of problems that spanned the
country. And what we kept seeing were allegations and citations for a lack of staffing, not enough
workers, a lack of training, workers who weren t trained enough, medication errors, people getting
the wrong drugs over and over again. These were the kind of things that we saw, and these were
the things that worried us about the industry as it evolves. This description of his findings are very
consistent with experiences I have personally witnessed. Like my mother, Thompson talks poorly
trained staff and the miniscule amount of staff. These factors are what allow for such poor care in
these facilities that happen around the country.
In this interview, Thompson voices concern for the future of assisted living. The PBS interview
supports my claim that there is an inability to properly take care of patients in living facilities, and
that it is dangerous to elderly people or those with disadvantages. One way in which Thompson
strengthens my claim is through his use of the word pattern. This word shows how common these
problems are across the country in assisted living facilities. These problems that he witnessed are
dangerous and, as he put it,

There are many different parenting styles that help children develop healthy lifestyles. Dr.
Levine focuses this chapter on the authoritarian, permissive and authoritative parents. The
authoritarian parent, or the do as your told parent as stated in the book, focuses on strict rules
for their children. These parents carry a strong because I said so ideology and end up hurting
their kids more than they help. These kids end up with low self esteem and high rates of
depression. The permissive parent, or the do your own thing parent, focus more on a friendship
with their child other than a respectful parent child relationship. These parents have trouble
disciplining their child and don t teach their children correct skills to take responsibility for their

on how to better their child. The children of these types of parents have better grades, better

The Impact Of Remuneration On The Workplace Essay
It is universally acknowledged that remuneration is the key to drive the employees to be more
productivity, enhance job satisfaction as well as the direction that determines the organizational
behaviour of one. In the early 1900s, Taylor (1903) suggested that financial incentives were
significant in improving efficiency of workers. However, the role of money has been revealed that
it is not the sole factor to improve worker performance, while other factors need to be considered, as
such human relations and social networks in the workplace, it is evident that these have become
more important nowadays. Motivationdefined by Kreitner (1995) is the process that gives
behaviour purpose and direction. It is also defined as psychological drives which determine the
behaviour, amount of effort put and degree of persistence in the face of obstacles (Kanfer 1990).
Motivation contains both intrinsic and extrinsic sources (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Intrinsically
motivated behaviours are driven for self interest whereby extrinsically motivated behaviour is
performed to satisfy own materiality or social rewards or to avoid punishment (Weddell et al. 2013
p228). According to Herzberg s motivation theory (1968), intrinsic to work mainly promotes job
content which includes responsibilities, recognition, achievement, the work itself, growth and
advancement, extrinsic, on the other hand, refers to the context of the job which includes pay,
company policy, administrative and so on. It is

The Incentive Plan Lost Adequacy As A Motivational...
In the beginning, the system consistently paid significant incentives. In the long run, this alerted
workers to view the incentives as a major aspect of their normal pay and not as motivating force to
move forward. The incentive plan lost adequacy as a motivational instrument. The employees
mentality is that of Vroom Expectancy Theory, in which motivationis a product of three elements:
valence (how much one wants a reward), expectancy (one s estimate of the profitability that effort
will result in successful performance) and instrumentality (one s estimate that performance will
result in receiving reward) (Newstrom, 2015 p.131 2). When cutbacks occurred, remaining
workers became insecure in their job and influenced their yearning to perform. They did just what
was expected of them to stay employed and nothing additional. Employees were not compensated
for seven months due to low productivity and profitability, which made the employees furious and
distrust the plan (Beer Collins, 2008 p.2). This is adequate evidence that supports McGregor s
Theory X and Theory Y.
Despite the fact, that management was fully aware of the employees grievances and the need to
redesign the incentive plan, management does nothing to ratify their complaints. Evidently,
Engstrom management team is not meeting the mental needs of the workers and breaks Newstrom
implication of the unwritten mental contract that workers sign upon employment with the company
(Newstrom, 2015, pg. 87 9). As a

Which I agree with this, I believe a person can be forgiven, and learn to leave their hate for others
behind. The film did a wonderful job of explaining both sides of capital punishment.
This film fulfills its purpose greatly. It goes in depth with Matthew
Poncelet s life and how he acts. It portrays him as a bottom of the line, cockroach eating, pond

Although the film also shows how a man like him can become soft, and then actually seem like a

One of the primary goals is to be a socially creditworthy company, at both local and global level. Consequently this is the reason Philip Morris had passion for social performance. They began as a very small family business specializing in hand rolled cigarettes. In 1902, the company moved to New York City and merged. Even though the company stayed small by 1960 it was the sixth largest company in the United States. The company acquired popularity using their Marlboro Man advertising campaign. Monteith and Co, where he worked 12 to 14 hour days, 6 days a week, as a piecer, with his older brother John. A piecer is a young child that crawls through the giant looms, to watch for broken threads. When the threads break, it is their job to quickly tie them back together. Around the time David began working, a law was passed requiring factories and mills to teach children that were 12 and under. However, the law sadly did not state when they had to hold classes, so more often than not the business owner would supply classes from 8 to 10 P.M, after the children had already worked their shifts. Many children did not take advantage of the free classes, but David did. He would force himself to stay awake and focus, just so that he could learn. Two years later, plants and herbs caught David s interest. He owned a botany book, which he studied with care, even though his father would not of allowed it because it was science. At this time in the world, people believed that science and Christianity could not go together because that would be questioning why God made things the way He made them. • 13. The Death Of The Author By Roland Barthes And Michel Foucault Throughout many different mediums such as literature and music there have been many controversial pieces written in regards to the true meaning and purpose of authorship. Several French philosophers such as Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault have written essays on the purpose of authorship. Roland Barthes, writer of The Death of the Author , has a strong belief in the removal of the author from a piece. Barthes believed that once a book has been written there is no more author but instead a scriptor and text which are both born simultaneously. Meaning that the text is a living tissue for the scriptor(reader) to interpret for themselves, leaving a text with multiple meanings dependent on a scriptors interpretation. On the other hand, French philosopher, Michel Foucaultbelieved that the author is a key aspect to a written work. He believed that without an author a work would have no true meaning in essence leaving everything up for debate which ultimately results in confusion. Foucault also believed that removing the author from a text serves no purpose and as such, should not be done. Similarly, an author is a very important aspect in music as well because musicians are able to bridge gaps between them and their listeners through lyricism. Artists are able to do this by incorporating narratives in their music allowing them to narrate their lives which may include hardships and difficulties that they have gone through, which allows for connections to be made between the author and a listener who has gone through the same experiences. For example, artists such as 21 Savage speak about gang violence and poverty in their music which allows them to shed light on such issues in order to raise public awareness. The rap artist 21 Savage, also known as 21, has written many songs which have very deep lyrical meanings to them. For example 21 Savage wrote the song Famous in which he describes his life prior to and after his rise to fame. In the song 21 Savage discusses how he used to be less fortunate but is now doing well by stating the following, Rags to riches, n***a came from the bottom/Hood rats, now a n***a f***in on models/Ridin in the foreign, remember ridin on MARTA (21 Savage). • 18. What Is The Comparison Of The Magnificent Seven And Seven... The films, The Magnificent Seven , and, Seven Samurai , essentially portray the same events in action, especially in the introductory scene. However, The Magnificent Seven , portrays the western version while Seven Samurai takes place in an eastern village. The films also choose a different order to show events and to go about each event. They do, however, portray the same basic idea: an innocent villagefaces bandits who have no intentions besides pillaging and stealing all belongings from the villagers, even if death of villagers must come from their intentions. The scene I have chosen to compare between the two films is the introduction scene. I have chosen to analyze and compare this scene from each film because while they show direct similarities in events as well as camera angles, the films differ in many ways as well. The scene in, The Magnificent Seven, begins with the bandits riding in on horses over a hill top towards a village to the tune of peppy western music. This scene is shot as a far away angle and is done so with no verbal communication, almost as if the bandits all have one common goal and they do not have to discuss with one another to know that is their intentions. This leads to the viewer being required to view the scene as a whole and consider what the intentions of these men must be and why they feel that way. When the men arrive to the village, the viewer is given little to no information regarding the village. The viewer then begins to wonder: Who are these people? , Did they do something to deserve this? , Maybe they know each other personally. The bandits then approach the villagers as if they own the place . They are asking for drinks, sitting down as they please, and even taking as they wish. The villagers seem to go along with this as though they are used to it and intend to fully comply. This can be seen through the conversation between the bandit and villagerwhere the villager talks very quietly, slurring his words, and telling the bandit what he wants to hear. The bandits then begin to leave as a villager runs after the bandits with intentions of standing up to them, almost to be leading the village to rebell. The journey starts with a description of Flick s hometown, then shares details about his current job, next it reflects on his high school basketball success, and finishes with his habits outside of work. In the first stanza, the poet is describing the town where Flick lives. Updike references trolley tracks which would imply an early 20th century setting. He also calls out the name of the garage specifically, Berth s Garage. This implies that Flick lives in a small town because small towns named their gas stations after the owner, unlike big cities. The third stanza talks about how magnificent Flick was at basketball. Literary Devices In The Jabberwocky And The Lorax The two stories The Jabberwocky and The Lorax, are both similar in the sense the authors use nonsensical words and other literary devices to enhance parts of their stories. Why do the authors do these things and how do they affect the story. One thing the two stories have in common is the way the word usage affects the story. In both The Jabberwockyand the Lorax, they use words to help the reader depict what is happening. One example from the Lorax would be, I am the Lorax, he coughed and he whiffed He sneezed and he snuffed, (Seuss ln. 10 11). Let me say a few words about Gluppity Glup, (Seuss ln. 21 22). In this quote the author uses the word gluppity glup. This word is an example of alliteration. This word also has kind of a dirty and icky feel to it. This may inform the reader that this stuff is not good and that it is bad and dirty. One example in the Jabberwocky of the author using sound devices is when the protagonist battles the Jabberwock. In the text it states, The vorpal blade went snicker snack, (Carroll ln. 18). This is not only an example of alliteration, but also onomatopoeia. The reader can assume that snicker snack is the sound of the blade hitting something. This indicates that the sword is hitting the Jabberwock and that he is probably killing it. This is how the authors use figurative language and sound devices in their ... • 34. The Impact Of Remuneration On The Workplace Essay It is universally acknowledged that remuneration is the key to drive the employees to be more productivity, enhance job satisfaction as well as the direction that determines the organizational behaviour of one. In the early 1900s, Taylor (1903) suggested that financial incentives were significant in improving efficiency of workers. However, the role of money has been revealed that it is not the sole factor to improve worker performance, while other factors need to be considered, as such human relations and social networks in the workplace, it is evident that these have become more important nowadays. Motivationdefined by Kreitner (1995) is the process that gives behaviour purpose and direction. It is also defined as psychological drives which determine the behaviour, amount of effort put and degree of persistence in the face of obstacles (Kanfer 1990). Motivation contains both intrinsic and extrinsic sources (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Intrinsically motivated behaviours are driven for self interest whereby extrinsically motivated behaviour is performed to satisfy own materiality or social rewards or to avoid punishment (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). According to Herzberg s motivation theory (1968), intrinsic to work mainly promotes job content which includes responsibilities, recognition, achievement, the work itself, growth and advancement, extrinsic, on the other hand, refers to the context of the job which includes pay, company policy, administrative and so on. • 35. The Incentive Plan Lost Adequacy As A Motivational... In the beginning, the system consistently paid significant incentives. In the long run, this alerted workers to view the incentives as a major aspect of their normal pay and not as motivating force to move forward. The incentive plan lost adequacy as a motivational instrument. The employees mentality is that of Vroom Expectancy Theory, in which motivationis a product of three elements: valence (how much one wants a reward), expectancy (one s estimate of the profitability that effort will result in successful performance) and instrumentality (one s estimate that performance will result in receiving reward) (Newstrom, 2015 p.131 2). When cutbacks occurred, remaining workers became insecure in their job and influenced their yearning to perform. They did just what was expected of them to stay employed and nothing additional. Employees were not compensated for seven months due to low productivity and profitability, which made the employees furious and distrust the plan (Beer Collins, 2008 p.2). This is adequate evidence that supports McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y. Despite the fact, that management was fully aware of the employees grievances and the need to redesign the incentive plan, management does nothing to ratify their complaints. Evidently, Engstrom management team is not meeting the mental needs of the workers and breaks Newstrom implication of the unwritten mental contract that workers sign upon employment with the company (Newstrom, 2015, pg. 87 9). Poncelets disposition is that of a sixth grade student. He is pushy, arrogant, curses a lot, and is always lonely.
