director put into this film to keep the same plot. The small differences throughout, really sway
the reader or viewer to make a decision on which one really captured the storyline better. In the
film, the backstory of Jack Crawford is not really shown. In the book, however, the reader can
really tell how much effort and sacrifice he made for the job he has. Because of all of Crawford s
effort, it really built Clarice s character. Clarice in the story is seen as a second chance for Crawford
because of his mistakes he made with Will Graham. Both stories really mirror each other and fit
into each other. In the film, however, it is hard to fit so much tiny detail into a two hour film, so
the movie wasn t able to show the small details about Clarice. The book nevertheless, was able to
shape Clarice as an individual. But, during the film Jodi Foster, the actor who played Clarice
Starlingin the film, was really able to embrace her character and brought as much detail as she
could. Another small detail about Dr. Lecter is in the book, he is described as having red eyes
and six fingers on one hand, but in the film, he has blue eyes and both hands only have 5 fingers.

A lot of people would always look back at their childhood and say, Wow! Those were good times.
To me, it wasn t. I was easy to get picked on as I was chubby and I am unable to speak Bahasa

first, I did not know what to do because usually, no one would go up to me. When he struck a
conversation, I began to mumble and he could tell I was scared. As he realized this, he took me
around the school and I asked him questions such as How is the community here? Are they

Growing up in parochial schools, uniforms were a part of my daily life. I wore uniforms for
twelve consecutive years, and I feel very strongly that they impacted my education for the better. I
had many friends attending public schools, and though they got to wear the latest fashion trends

sees five men working on the tracks. Luckily, the driver of the trolley has the option to flip a

though. On the right spur of the tracks, one man is working. Philippa Foothas arranged that no
matter which way the driver turns, it would be impossible for the workmen to get off the track
safely and on time to avoid being run down by the trolley (Thomson 1395). As a first instinct, the

INTRODUCTION
The importance of olfaction has been extensively studied in many terrestrial and aquatic taxa,
and it is widely accepted that reptiles and mammals commonly use olfaction to assess the risk of
predation (Amo et al. 2008; Roth et al. 2008; Zidar and LГёvlie 2012). However, in avian species,
its value has rarely been studied (Zidar and LГёvlie 2012). For decades, many people have debated
the importance of bird olfaction (Mennerat et al. 2005), even though birds possess the neurological
and anatomical structures needed to detect olfactory cues (Roth et al. 2008). Evidence of the
ecological significance for olfaction in birds is minimal and inconsistent with only a few
exceptions; procellariformes and New World vultures.
Although it is no longer valid to argue that birds do not have the ability to perceive odor, it is still
widely believed that their sense of smell is still not as developed as those of mammals and
reptiles (Jones and Roper 1997). For decades, passerines were thought to have weak olfactory
capacities because of their very small relative olfactory bulb size (Mennerat et al. 2005). However,
with the extensive research conducted with tubenoses, it is now known that birds can use olfaction
to locate food sources (Roth et al. 2008). The supplemental feeding of passerines has become
popular throughout the United States, not only for aesthetic reasons, but to also provide
supplemental feeding during times of nutritional stress. In spite of the popularity of
