Mr. Erwin Martin In James Thurber s The Catbird Seat
The Catbird Seat by James Thurber introduces the prime character, Mr. Erwin Martin has been
an employee at F S for 22 years. Over time, he has established a reputation of one who does
wrong, but they are unaware of what monstrous deeds he is capable of. Mrs. Ulgine Barrows is
the latest to join F S, where she has only been for a few months. In addition to her coming, she
takes it upon herself, to reign over the established company. Continuously, she pushes his buttons
further, and he is anticipating to rub her out, in order to rid of her before she begins taking

Burrows . This is the moment he is visualizing repeatedly, and one can assume that he will take
her life once he sneaks in. There is no reasonable explanation he would be here. This woman was
nothing other than a nuisance to him, and it is obvious he is showing up with unpleasant
intentions. He does not walk in as a guest, he prowls like a poisonous snake, on the move for his
prey. Once he is clear of potential witnesses, he makes his way to her door where she stands.
This shocks him and he moves into swift motion and, He rushed past her like a football tackle
(3). Mrs. Barrows blows it off with a snarky comment, but there is suspicion lingering, when he
questions if there is anyone else there. Sadly, she does not head warning, but instead she
answers him concluding they are indeed alone, and he is at ease. Frantically, he scans the room
for the weapon for murdering her. Mr. Martin is not a hunt for any weapon, the text reads, Mr.
Martin looked quickly around the living room for THE weapon (3). The search for something to
hit her with is not random, it is the weapon he assumes would be available, as mapped out.
Initially, his plan all along was to kill her with whatever he found in her place. Following, he
catches sight of a knife and he test if it is sharp enough, but came to a loss because, It was blunt.
It wouldn t do (4). Obviously, this is a red flag, especially considering how much he despises her.
Not only is he seeking the appropriate sharp object, he also makes sure to retain his gloves, in
case there is a residue of blood or fingerprints. Once he fails to find a dagger, a sudden thought
arises. Instead of striking her dead, he realizes it is possible to deceive her. As he lies, he still
throws back a drink and smokes to further eliminate the chances that his employees believe

New Place Research Paper
New Place
Going to a new place was my great experience for learning coping skills, for developing self
discipline, and making friends. When I was about nine years old, I was a troubled boy. As a
fourth grader, I went to an elementary school in my small village. However, I grew up without
supervision because my father, as a soldier, was often deployed far away from home. After school
times, I hung around with other undisciplined boys in our neighborhood, and was influenced by
neighbor boys misbehaviors. I ran into mischief. Fortunately, my mother believed in Catholic
schools. She saved my life by sending me to a providing Catholic Church school, very far from
home, in Thuduc city, Vietnam for my education.
Notre Dame was a gorgeous school where I probably started to develop my coping skills in my
childhood. As I am trying to visualize my experience living in a room and board Notre Dame

Everyday, I practiced the rules of self discipline to take charge of my learning. For example,
while doing my math problem sets, I wouldn t let myself check the math answers until I
completed all my math exercises. Eventually, these practices became an ingrained habit. As a
reward of my self discipline, my math skills improved greatly, and I earned good grades. In
addition, Striving for Excellence guided me to overcome learning obstacles at Notre Dame School
with a great learning environment, separated from the world outside. During school years, my
friends and I challenged ourselves and competed amongst each other in order to excel. On class
projects that required teamwork, we cooperated and needed each other. When playing sports, we
trained and pushed ourselves hard, and we tried to keep sportsmanship. Finally, renovating my
behaviors with a strict discipline, Notre Dame changed my life totally, as I have grown up both

Factors Of Favor Of The Argument Essay
Module 2 Assignment 2: Factors in Favor of and Against
Name: Kellie Runyon
Topic: Universal health care: Governmental provision of free health care for all citizens.
Part 1: Matrix
Strength of the Argument
(1 strongest,
6 weakest)
Reasons for
Reasons Against
1
Universal health care would be affordable for everyone
Millions of people would save money with universal healthcare due to everyone paying an equal
amount; whether it be through tax increase or some other form. However, it will amount to less
money than those who are paying for healthcare now due to the fact that every citizen pays for it
and not only the people who can afford the raising prices.
Tax Increases to cover the healthcare change.
2
Public health would improve with universal health care
All citizens will have unlimited access to the medical professionals. Many people that cannot afford
insurance will now have unlimited opportunities to get annual exams and help to prevent major
health issues from going unseen.
With an increase in the amount of people needing/wanting medical treatment, there will be a
shortage of medical staff. This will cause longer wait times, limited resources, as well as not having
enough doctors and specialists to meet the demand.
3
The cost of healthcare would be lower for the US when expenses are prioritized.
Other countries that provided universal health care spend half as much as the US does with the
amount of people who currently have health insurance. The US is

Taking and researching the Meyers Briggs personality test has absolutely changed my life in many
ways. Most drastically is the shift I have made from pursuing a Management Information Sciences
and Business Analytics Degree, to a Business Management with HR specialization degree.
I have always been highly driven by aspiration and very eager to realize it, however I never had
the ability to identify the strategy for accomplishing my success (Krishna, 2014). Working inside
the Career Center and exploring the tools provided to me provides, perhaps for the first time in my
life, the tools necessary to become successful. Throughout my life, my careers have been based on
what was offered to me, instead of what I was seeking. Understanding that as an ENTP I am able to
adapt to most situations, quickly master new concepts and all while building meaningful
relationships, helped me to see that just because I am really good at a particular task does not
mean I should do it as a full time career. The boredom I will inevitably experience along with the
day to day detailed tasked that will pile up may cause me to lose focus and eliminate me from
being as successful as possible. As long as I stay honest with myself about my strengths and
weaknesses, instead of trying to handle everything, I will thrive in any career that is in need of a
new way of thinking (16 Personalities, 2015).

The True Sense Of Family In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Everyday Use is a story by Alice Walker that is about a woman and her young, shy daughter
awaiting a visit from her other daughter who has been away for some time. Throughout the story,
Mama unknowingly compares her two daughters. During Everyday Use, the reader will not only
learn of Maggie s being scarred, her bashful nature, but also her true sense of family. Maggie had to
grow up being scarred. Mama explains early on of Maggie s scars, homely and ashamed of the burn
scars down her arms and legs, that were caused in a house fire. During the course of the story, the
reader may tell that Maggie is deeply ashamed of her scars, because of the way she tries to hide by
doors and around corners and keeps the scars covered. As Maggie somewhat confronts Dee, it is
said that, She stood there with her scarred hands hidden in the folds of her skirt. The reader may

Outline Of The DSCA Command Relationships During Hurricane...
DSCA Command Relationships during Katrina
SFC Marson, Kellen
Master Leader Course
Class 18 001
Introduction
On August 29th, 2005, Hurrican Katrina, a Category 4 hurricane, made landfall. Katrina left severe
destruction along the Golf Coast and evenutally breached the New Orleans levee system putting the
city under water. The death toll was estimated at 1,245 people and an estimated $105 billion dollars
in damage occured (Knabb 2011). During Katrina, command relationships failed because of
political differences between President Bush and Louisiana Governor, Kathleen Blanco as to who
should command the National Guard, delays at the National Guard Bureau (NGB) in deploying
troops and equipment, and failing to create a unity of effort between National Guard and Active
Duty forces.
National Guard
The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina left tens of thousands of people in New Orleans without
adequate water, food, shelter, and physical security. Law enforcement was in disarray as 200 New
Orleans Police officers left their post. The Louisiana National Guard was short on personnel and
much of their equipment was unserviceable due to flooding. Thousands of people needed help and
critical distribution of resources from Defense Support of Civilian Authorities (DSCA) failed.
As New Orleans spiraled out of control, looting and crime were becoming a serious problem. The
Louisiana National Guard focused on rescue missions, rather than keeping Law Order. The public
began to blame President Bush and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco for their poor response to
the recovery efforts.
In a meeting on Airforce One, President Bush tried to convince Governor Blanco to federalize the
National Guard in order to have all forces under one central command. Governor Blanco refused
this offer, believing that Bush s attempt to federalize the Louisiana National Guard was just attempt
to blame her for post Katrina problems (Farazmand, 2014).
While President Bush and Governor Blanco argued over politics, valuable time was being wasted
and innocent people in New Orleans continued to suffer and parish at the hands of it s own federal
and state governments. Across the country, National Guard Soldiers from various

Diary Of An American Diary Entry
Diary Entry One: I can t believe what I m hearing. This can t be true. It s like some twisted joke
someone has to be playing on me. Before I go into detail, let me explain. When I got home from
school yesterday, I had a package sitting at my front door full of seven cassette tapes with no
return address or any explanation of what I was even supposed to do with them. I figured I
would pop them into my dad s stereo in the garage and find out; little did I know what I was
about to hear would change my life forever. I popped the first tape in, pulled up a stool, and
pressed play. As soon as I heard her voice, I felt my pink, warm cheeks immediately turn a
ghostly white. It was the voice of Hannah Baker, a girl who just committed suicide two weeks
ago. We were just classmates. Maybe friends. Maybe I even sort of liked her. I don t know, I
never really got the chance to know her. She never let me. Anyways, as I listened to her soft
voice echo in the garage, she explained what I was listening to. It was her recorded suicide note
with thirteen stories, each on one side of a cassette tape. Each story explained one person s impact
on her decision to end her life. She explained the process that these tapes were supposed to go
through. Number one: You listen. Number... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

her words gracefully fall of her lips, sounding almost scripted. She began the first story, Justin

I paused the tapes and figured I should use something more private, for fear that someone in my
house would hear. I knew that a friend of mine had a walkman, and I figured I d be able to
borrow it from him, just for a night to listen to the tapes. I packed up the tapes and walked to his

Underground Economies And Its Effects On Canada
This paper looks into the different types of underground economies and its effects on Canada, and
argues that underground economy is destructive to the society and should be eliminated as much
as possible. With evidence from Statistics Canada, it shows the percentage of how much the black
market is affecting the GDP. It also discusses the main causes as to why some sellers choose to be
in the underground economy and how they could benefit from it temporarily. Underground
economies in a long run are invisible actions that creates very visible consequences, including the

All kinds of goods and services are available in an underground economy. The most commonly
traded goods and services are goods and services that are available in the official market, but at a
lower cost in the black market; or goods and services that has a limited supply in the official
market, but are sold at an elevated price in the Black market. Despite the trade being illegal, as
long as both the seller and buyer comes to an agreement on the price, they trade privately with
cash to avoid being detected. Although many sellers get away with this, at the end of the day
underground economy is a continued cycle of affecting the country and its citizens, including
sellers and buyers in the black market, mostly its tax revenues will be affected, then the GDP, and
finally its citizens. All Black market trades are done in the shadows, but if the root causes of the
continued growth in the underground economy are known, things could be done to eliminate the
number of black market trades as much as possible. Underground economy is disruptive to the
society, to avoid these negative effects; it should be eliminated as much as possible.
The unreported economy causes tax evasion and that affects everybody in Canada. There are
various negative effects regarding the black market; doubtful the most significant one is the effect it
has on tax revenues the unreported economy. Tax revenue is the sum of all different kinds of taxes

Jackie Robinson Influence
One of baseball s greatest, Jackie Robinson, once said, A life is not important except in the
impact it has on other lives. Jackie Robinson was the first African American man to play in the
Major League Baseball. Jackie Robinson played for the Brooklyn Dodgers throughout his
baseball career as number 42. The great baseball player was faced with many acts of racism, but
through it all he continued to play the game he loved. This is the story of Jackie Robinson, the first
African American man to play in the MLB.
Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He was the youngest out of
five siblings, Mack Robinson, Willa Mae Robinson, Edgar Robinson, and Frank Robinson.
Jackie Robinson attended John Muir High School, Pasadena Junior College, and UCLA. At
UCLA, Jackie Robinson won varsity letters in four different sports baseball, football, track and
field, and basketball. One major influence that Jackie Robinson had in his life was Branch
Rickey, the former president of the Dodgers. Branch Rickey was a big influence because he is the
one that brought Jackie into the MLB, and he was there for Jackie when he faced racism.
Throughout his life, Jackie Robinson s main hardship was racism. During his time period,
segregation was something that burdened every African American. Even once he was in the MLB
he would receive racism from even his own teammates. He even received things like death threats.

Paradise Lost Short Story Analysis
In Paradise Lost, author Terry Hekker contrasts her new life, as a housewife, with what she had
experienced 30 years earlier. In this article, Hekker depicts her personal experience of being a
full time working mother and how much it hurt when when she was divorced after 40 elongated
years of marriage. It was mortifying for her to cope with the loneliness she felt after their divorce
and, unfortunately she was forced to reestablish herself back from scratch. Defending her point,
Terry admits her sorrow/frustration stating, I wasn t advocating that mothers forgo careers to stay
home with their children; I was simply defending my choice as a valid one.ВЁ (Hecker 38, p5)
Hekker has a strong opinion on the matter of being a housewifeUnlike Satisfactions of Housewifery
and Motherhood , where Hekker stated how she enjoyed her role as a stay at home mom, Paradise
Lost is written differently to advise mothers/current housewivesto have a backup plan and a strong
education base behind their occupation of Housewifery. By alluding to her past (The Satisfactions
of Housewifery and Motherhood) and through the use of her degrading and defensive language,
Hekker advises women and other housewives to be prepared for anything to happen to themselves
in a marriage.
Hekker s enthusiasm on the topic of Housewifery shifted completely as her life took a dramatic
shift; on her 40th wedding anniversary her husband filed for divorce. She writes, so i was

An Analysis of Toy Story Essay
Toy Story Analysis
Toy Story is the groundbreaking 1995 motion picture developed by Disney and Pixar and
directed by John Lasseter. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature
length animation to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also
the film was more rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and
three dimensional but their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. The film
uses a constructed text in order to put across a theme of two very different characters learning to
work together beyond their rivalries to rise above a common enemy and work towards a common
goal. The film uses characters and imagery very cleverly to ... Show more content on

Woody quickly becomes jealous and insecure with the arrival of Buzz and this turns him into a
bully. Not the characteristics expected of a Disney hero. This is shown in the way Woody
constantly ridicules Buzz making fun of his name and teases him maliciously about the fact he
thinks he actually is a space ranger. This brings us on to Buzz. He is super confidant and suffers
from delusions of grandeur. However although he may be a little irritating he is still likeable,
cheerful and helpful. He has too much confidence in own abilities. This is why when he sees the
advertisement for Buzz Lightyear Action figures he completely loses his will to live and is unable
to do anything. This is another theme that self belief has a reflection in what you are able to do
as they both find out at the end in that when they have confidence in themselves they are able to
rise above seemingly insurmountable obstacles in rescuing Buzz and getting back to Andy.
Another theme is that of appearances being deceptive. Woody and Buzz immediately consider
the toys in Sid s room as evil. The audience also get this feeling. Not only do they look disturbing
but also they are also associated with Sid who is the main evil character. Despite their initial fears,
Woody and Buzz are soon convinced that Sid s warped creations are also prisoners and are in fact

Iliad Gods
The gods of the Iliad are a unique set of individuals . Unlike the omnipresent god of the Christian
who is above man in wisdom, power and character, these gods are portrayed as a family. Here s a
family of bickering members who seek attention, get jealous and generally act as a typical
extended family unit. My thesis thus is that gods are not impotent but are in a lot aggrandized
versions of man who control the fate of man.
Gods as stated earlier are very much like man. One way to see this analogy is to compare gods to
the flaws of man. Take the seven deadly sins of man pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony and lust the
gods in more than one way act in each one of these attributes throughout the Iliad. First of all, let s

First off is when Zeus ponders in his heart as to whether to save Sarpedon from his death or not.
Hera s reply to him reveals a different concept of fate. ...if you bring Sarpedon back to his home,
still living, think how then some other gods might also wish to carry his own son out of the
strong encounter... (16. 439 457, pg. 363). This dialogue reveals one this about fate: it is
changeable. Another instance comes up again with Zeus trying to save to Hektor from his
death. This time it is Athene who reprimands him. ...Do you wish to bring back a man who is
mortal, one long since doomed by his destiny, from ill sounding death release him... (22. 177
181, pg. 462). Fate can be here regarded as means to ensure the mortality of man and also, a god
loses respect when he or she breaks fate. But the overall value of fate will be as a law. Fate appears
to serve as a check and balance among the gods; preventing them from doing as they please to
mortal men. As to who decides when the fate of a man is to come is generally unknown, but all
the gods to know each man s appointed fate. Thus as can be seen from the song, no man is killed

Differences Between Mali And The Mali Empire
Unlike Ghana, the Mali Empire was dominated by Islam, due to the widespread Islamic
merchants and conversions that occurred in during kingdoms. This is significant because it
demonstrates that goods weren t the sole exchange and that religion was able to penetrate West
Africa and impact the native people. The main motive for this mass adaptation of Islam as the
dominant religion stems from strategic aims, from previous kingdoms, to diminish possible
attacks from Muslim territories across the Sahara. This created alliance between Mali and other
Arab powers, the might of the [Mali] Empire was such that the Arabs at times called on it for
military aid (Diop, 93). This was extremely beneficial for Mali because it was the premier power
of antiquity, and also had progressive relationships with other Islamic kingdoms throughout the
world. The Empire of Mali inherited all of gold mines that the previous Ghanaian empire
controlled, as well as gold from other kingdoms, Futa Jallon, Wangara (Goodwin). Mali grew in
influence and replace Ghana as the main producer and distributor of gold . . . [as well as] salt
mines, diamonds, and copper production (Mali). This ensure Mali as the dominant economic
marketplace throughout the world. Mali s strategic location allowed control of trade routes
throughout Sub Saharan Africa, the Niger River, North Africa, as well as many other routes

Essay On Hotel Rwanda
Terry Georges film Hotel Rwanda focuses deeply into the life of Paul Rusesabagina, of whom Is
also identified as the hotel manager who saved the lives of 1200 Tutsis and Tutsi supporters. It
sparks awareness to the 1994 massacre that was carried out by the Hutu rebels in Rwanda. The
film allows viewers to engage in the issue through its emotional and intense screenplay. New York
Times critic Stephen Holding brands Hotel Rwandaon the entertainment aspect of violence and
emotions, but ignores the true human nature of the Rwandan Genocide.
Holding argues that Hotel Rwanda radically downplays the actual gore, which is observed
through a film or from a distance. Bodies are strewn everywhere, but the streets don t run with
blood, and no hideous mutilation is shown. Even the beatings seem tentative. This is true and is
seen when Paul Rusesabagina and his driver, Gregoire, go out to get supplies for the Hotel. This
particular scene is very foggy and when Paul steps out of the vehicle, he sees that there are dead
bodies surrounding him. Hotel Rwanda is a rated PG 13 film. Thus, includes a mostly non graphic
depiction of the genocide. However, contrary to what Holding says, it is not a flaw. Due to the

Over Criminalization Research Paper
Over criminalizing citizens causes a lot of harm to many aspects of society. The crisis of over
criminalization refers to how some laws are not necessary because they try and regulate natural
human behaviors that are not inherently evil (Brainmass, n.d.). These include laws like gambling,
prostitution, cohabitation and drug use. The argument of over criminalization discusses if the
government should try and restrict human behavior (Brainmass, n.d.). One side says that they
should because these acts do not correspond with community values and the other side says it is
impossible to stop foul behavior. Realistically, the government plays a similar role parents do but
on a much larger scale. Just because a person with authority says don t do that, doesn t mean
everyone is going to adhere to the standards.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many prostitution stings every day in the United States. With prostitution, both parties
agree to the act. There are two human beings fulfilling two different needs. The reason why it is
dangerous is because it is illegal and isn t regulated, which attracts the wrong type of people. There
are many countries worldwide that allow prostitution. In those countries, this industry causes much
less harm because it isn t restricted to just felons or rejects. The law enforcement officers
conducting these operations can use their valuable skills elsewhere. Over criminalization damages
community relations. When citizens receive sanctions for committing victimless crimes, the
information gets spread throughout their network of friends. Their friends are naturally more
empathetic towards the person they know and turn their frustration towards law enforcement. The
monetary costs and the possibility of jail time for these petty crimes are as ineffective as creating

2. Using the Service Concept to create changes in the Design: Changes in the service concept
affect the organization as a whole, which also involves Service Development. Service Concept is
closely linked with Service Design, which makes it one main component that includes the
perspective of the customers, thus it should be designed properly to match the needs of the
Customer. With the help of the outline of the Service Concept and mapping the current Service
Concept with the required Service Concept, The service designers can compare their Service

Compare And Contrast Greece And Persia
Two dominant civilizations of the Ancient World; Greece and Persia; were similar in multiple
ways. Both civilizations were heavily invested in militaristic assets which including military forces
over sea and land. As a result of being highly invested in their military assets, both civilizations
used military force to gain power. However, the two civilizations differed in the manner in which
they were governed. For example, Ancient Persia was united under a single ruler that was known as
a king. Ancient Greeceon the other hand, was governed by military officials, aristocrats, and
occasionally tyrants. In return the manner in which each civilization was controlled by their ruler,

Sexism In Pygmalion
Pygmalion in Greek mythology was a Cypriot sculptor who constructed a woman out of ivory and
named her Galatea. According to Ovid s translation, after seeing the Propoetides prostituting
themselves in public for their defiance against the gods, he became uninterested in women;
however his statue was so beautiful and realistic that he fell in love with it. After a short time,
Aphrodite s festival day came, and Pygmalionmade several offerings at the shrine of Aphrodite.
Pygmalion was too scared to admit his true desire at the altar, so he quietly wished for a bride
who would be the living likeness of my ivory girl . When he returned home, he kissed his Galatea,
and found that the statue s lips felt warm. He kissed it again and found that... Show more content on

The author shows his feminist side as he has Eliza stand up for her self and break out of the
traditional position of women in the era. This brings a very feminist, free thinking theme to the
play that challenges the audience to break the usual traditions of England s segregated, unofficial
caste system of a society. In Shaw s display against inequality and sexism, there is another theme
that must be kept in mind. When thinking about how to achieve equality between the sexes, it
has to be taken into consideration that true equality does not necessarily come from being treated
equally. In order for equality to be achieved, we must feel equal to one another. This feeling
comes from making the effort to meet the needs of all people so that they can reach a point in life
where they feel dignified, and feel as though they have the ability and the will power to work to
raise themselves up in society.
The amount of character development in Pygmalion, the characters help to make the play seem
more realistic and interesting due to each character s complex and individual personality. Each one
contributes to the play s over all message in a different way. For example, Professor

The role of an economy is to effectively make use of a countries resources, thus increasing economic

Video Games Cause Violence Essay
Video Games Cause Violence
Video games have become a major occupation of majority of the youth these days. They spend
hours on end concentrating on video games, some of which are apparently very violent, yet this is
actually the whole idea. Coming from the horse s mouth is an argument in support of video games
coined from a video programmer s point of view, stating that violent video games allow people to
do what they can not do in reality virtual reality. ( http://www.theroc.org/roc mag/textarch/roc 15
/roc15 08.htm ) For instance, someone said to be having a bad day could use a violent video
game to release stress by shooting down a couple hundred bad men than actually taking an AK 47
and spilling down a few brains down the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focus on these games is not only to kill, but also to torture and maim in the process. (http:/
/archive.abcnews.go.com/sections/tech/DailyNews/internetgames981201.html)
The story line behind some violent video games includes games in which players earn points by
carjacking taxis, scoring drugs from cursing thugs, and mowing down pedestrians.(see http:/
/www.feedmag.com/vgs/duncan.html ) Some cartoonish tag lines in some sadistic video games
include : As easy as killing babies with axes and More fun than killing your neighbour s cats . This
kind of themes definitely influence the players, especially the younger ones, and inflict violent
tendencies on them. It is no wonder, that this killing mania in violent games was seen to seep out
into the actual world when a high school junior opened fire in his school cafetaria in Littleton,
Colorado, killing two of his classmates. The gunman was reported to be an ardent fan of Quake
and Doom, some rather violent video games. More proof of the relationship between video games
and violence is revealed by a study which clearly reveals how this kind of entertainment affects our
lives. Greater details of the history of how high school students turned gunmen in Columbine High
School are given, which shows that the effect of video games in their lives was a major source of
influence in doing what they did best.
In the light of all these, it is very clear that virtual reality as

BACTERIAL STRAIN
Cupriavidus necator is a bacterial strain that is commonly used in accumulating poly 3

carbon source present is in excess compared to the other essential nutrients in the medium like
nitrogen, phosphorus or oxygen (Lopez Abelairas, Garcia Torreiro, Lu Chau, Lema, Steinbuchel,
2015). This bacterial strain will be pre cultured from within 24 hours in a 500 mL Erlenmeyer flask

the balanced growth phase. On the other hand, the second process will involve the accumulation of
PHA. Both media that will be prepared will limit the ammonia (NH3)

Platypoda Comparison
Platypus Essay Platypi, Platypodes, Platypoda, and Platypuses. There are many different ways
to say Platypus, however, my personal favorite is Platypoda. Platypodes are one of the strangest
mammals because they lay eggs. They have so many interesting adaptations. In this essay I ll be
going over three of my personal favorites; their bill, their venom, and their ability to sweat milk.
I ll be starting with their bill. It greatly resembles a duck bill, but it is significantly different.
Duck bills are hard and used to catch fish, so it has to be strong enough to hold a fish. However,
with platypi, their bill is a lot longer and is only meant to catch worms, shrimp, and other small
creatures. Therefore, the platypus bill, unlike a duck bill, is rubbery and... Show more content on

During mating season the males sweat gland also starts to produce venom that comes out the
Spurs in their back legs. It only comes around in mating season because it s meant for fighting
other male platypi to get to the females. It hasn t killed any people yet; the worst recorded case
was when a 57 year old man lost a lot of muscles in his hand and had constant pain for a little over
three months. It s been described as long lasting excruciating pain that cannot be relieved with
painkillers because you can t get rid of it unless you use anesthesia. Not even morphine would
help. Platypus venom isn t deadly like the black widow, but some parts in the platypus venom do
closely resemble a lot of spider venom along with reptiles and even sea anemones. I thought it
was weird that platypi only had venom during mating season, what if they need to protect
themselves? Well even if they don t have venom year round they do have spurs. If they ever need
to protect themselves then they can still stab their attacker. Their spurs can even come off of their
foot and stay inside their predator making it so if they never get it out they ll have a major

low income community and is labelled as an inner city school. To meet the extraordinary needs
of all their students Ivor dent offers regular classroom programs, behavioral and learning

Edmonton public schools follow: equity, accountability, collaboration, and integrity. While at Ivor

Who Shall Control Our Schools Summary
In the 1920s, there was a great debate over the changing of values in America. The jazz age had
erupted and with it, came new debates over what is best for the United States and it s children.
America was in a crisis, fighting between its victorian history and the new world of advertisement
and propaganda. One of the great debates during this time, was whether or not evolution should be
taught in public schools. The difference in ideals between the conservatives and those who were
modern was large. Most matters at this time had to do with the difference between church and state
laws. Evolution and creationism were two of the biggest issues brought up between state and
church. In an effort to keep evolution out of schools, the Butler Actwas put into place on March
23rd, 1925. The Butler Act was a law in Tennessee that made it illegal for public schools to teach
evolution. The most famous challenge of the Butler Act was during the Scopes Trial in July 1925.

marijuana has been a major debate in the government because the government has never had any
control over it. However, the state of California in recent times has been less harsh on marijuana
by passing laws that allow recreational use across the state of California. With this in mind, the

The city of Desert Hot Springs has had money issues in the past and the cultivation was one way to
get the money into its economy. Taxing business should benefit the community itself because it s
something that is in demand. Brian Maclver, with Cannabis Business Times deliberates how the
businesses will get taxed, Cultivation businesses are taxed on both their sales (a monthly 10
percent fee) and based on the size of their operations an annual tax of $25 per square foot for the
first 3,000 square feet, and then $10 per square foot for the remaining. (Maclver). Taxing the
business this way would create more money for the city to disperse the money for education or
for city roads anything that is in need for that city. In addition, tax revenue will help Desert Hot
Springs with its economical struggles that it has had in the past. In an interview conducted by
Tom Tucker from CBS, he interviewed Desert Hot Springs mayor Scott Matas, in which he
elaborated how much tax revenue the cultivating business can bring into the economy. Matas
completely backs up the evolving business, The mayor says he expect cannabis related tax
revenues to add about $10 million a year to city coffers by as early as 2021, and upwards of $25
million annually by 2026. (Tucker). As a result, the tax revenue that will be coming to city can be

Reflective Essay About My Mandala
During the past few weeks in Global Perspectives we explored our personal culture, and the
influences that shape it. Our task was to create a mandala: a circular set of symbols that convey
the contrast between the sun and shadow sides of our personality. While the sun side is the
disposition other people see, the shadow side captures unseen aspects of our personality. In this
reflection, I further examine how I embody the characteristic behind each symbol and how I
came to possess this characteristic. First, on the sun side (right), the uppermost symbol is a
firecracker, which represents my exuberance. Firecrackers are loud, colorful, and unpredictable.
Being the youngest of my friends and family, I have always been loud craving attention and
achieved it through antics, similar to a firecracker exploding. However, as exciting as some
consider firecrackers, to some they are scary. My loud personality and my never ending energy
sometimes send the wrong impression, and I come off as a little hard to handle. Though my
family was part of the reason I wanted get attention, but I was the one would would rather be

Universal Health Care Economics
Interestingly, there is in fact, a strong correlation between health and a state s economic
performance. Universal health care is not only a fair social policy; it is also an effective economic
policy. By ensuring good population health through the treatment and prevention of illness, the
health care sector increases the number of people able to work and be productive members of
society. The Lancet Commission on Investing in Health had recently discovered that investments in
health were responsible for nearly one quarter of all economic growth in developing countries
between 2000 and 2011. Promoting a universal health caresystem can possibly lower a nations costs

This suggests that for every dollar one spends to purchase something, whether a loaf of bread or
a new car, 16 percent of it goes to healthcare. Other developed countries with universal health care
pay far less, roughly 9 12 percent of GDP . This consists of nations where people live much
longer and who are much healthier. The difference in costs, about 5 percent of GDP, works out to
750 billion dollars every year, more than half the annual federal deficit. According to the US Census
Bureau, approximately 47.9 million people in the United States did not have health insurance in
2012. Due to the lack of affordable health care in the States, many patients delay or abandon
treatments, resulting in a lack of uncompensated care for doctors and thus, reduced income. A

career. With less people paying for costly treatments, less profit is being generated and more

The Book Thif Book Analysis
Brian Percival s 2014 film adaptation of the novel, The Book Thief is set during World War II
and focuses heavily on the Nazi Regime and the horrors surrounding the war. It also introduces
the reader to a German perspective of the war. During World War II, the Nazi Party reigned terror
over Germany and many people became victims of the cruelty of their circumstances. This is
demonstrated implicitly throughout, the film of The Book Thief , however, the fear of the war
still surrounds the characters in the film. Despite being a film, that presents a German view on the
war, the film clearly displays the sense of fright that would be observed by a Jew during the
Holocaust. The fear can also be sensed after the innocent acts of the child characters in the film.
Despite the film not explicitly displaying the terror caused by the Nazis in Germany, The Book
Thief still demonstrated a sense of fright amongst the characters, that would realistically be present
during World War II.
During World War II, the act of opposing the Nazi view could potentially result in death, however,
not displaying the rituals and practices of supporting the Nazi party could also result in punishment.
Consequently, the film also shows various instances where the act of not abiding by the laws or
practices of the Nazis resulted in harsh punishment. The fear is clearly evident in the words of
Rosa Hubermann as she gives great importance to the Nazi flag, stating ...if we don t find it, it will

Forehead In The Sky Classification
At 29,035 feet( National Geographic) , Mount Everest is the top of the world. Split in half by the
Nepalese and Chinese border this is just one of the enormous mountains in the mountain range
named the Himalayas. This spectacle of nature doesn t come without it s risks though, about 240
people have died on the mountain. The locals call Everest Sagarmatha, meaning Forehead in the
Sky , and it was first climbed in 1953. Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, a New Zealand veteran, and
Tenzing Norgay, a Nepalese sherpa, were the first to summit Sagarmatha. Hillary and Tenzing took
seven weeks to reach the summit on May 29, 1953. Since then about 4,000 climbers have
attempted the deadly climb. But Hillary was the very first to do it.
Many people think climbing a mountain is an almost vertical climb all the way up. But that is not
the case, there are many smaller climbs that go both up and down. The climb is very demanding
on the body. You must be in top shape if you expect to summit the mountain. To get all the way up
you need oxygen tanks, because the air is too thin once you get near the top. There are many
camps up the mountain for climbers to rest for the night or day. But you must acclimatize, or let
your body get used to the thin air (Mount Everest.Net). A common method is to... Show more

Classical Ancient Greece Essay examples
The expanse of time that the term Ancient Greece defines is all the way from around 7,250 BCE
when the first evidence of burial sites were discovered in Argolid, Greece, during the Mesolithic
Period, to around the year 30 BCE when Cleopatra died in Alexandra, Egypt (1). That is the better
part of 7,200 years. Trying to fit all of that information into five to seven pages would be nearly
impossible. That is why I will be focusing on the Classical Era of Greecewhich spans from about
500 BCE to around 320 BCE. During this time in Greece there were many conflicts and wars, but
there was also much growth in the cultural aspects of their society.

However, for women in poorer families that is not the case. They had to work along side the
husband and most time kids out in the fields. They would normally work their, depending on
income, from morning until night (3). Then, she would come back to the house and take care of
it. Greek homes were really not that fancy. The walls were made with mud brick that were
covered in plaster and topped with pottery tiles to make a roof. The windows were not covered
so they were pretty much open holes. Poor families had normally one or two rooms while rich
families had multi roomed and multi story house. Even though the two classes of people were
separated by vast wealth they all had very basic and simple wooden furniture. (3)
Even though you can t believe everything you see in movies, you can pretty much trust them to
accurately depict the Greek clothing. All but the very rich wore garments made of wool or linen;
the very rich had their clothing made from more expensive things like silk or cotton. The
garments themselves were also very simple. They were normally rectangular cut pieces of fabric
with arm holes cinched at the waste. That was their usual everyday outfit. If men were to travel,
they most likely took with them a cloak and wide rimmed hats. Women, again depending on class,

Video Industry And Its Impact On Children
While we are enthusiasts of entertainment and thrilling action, we are parental figures to the next
generation of children on their way. Violence presented in media potentially affects children
through vivid depictions of gore and tragedy, blurring the line between reality and fictionalized
drama. The filmindustry and its supporters thrive off of these displays, drawing in crowds of
spectators which provide the industry with an extraordinary amount of profit. Although many of

An alteration of ticket prices contains a solution for this case. Despite standards which impede the
youth s contact with violence in films and entertainment, there are many methods which break down
the systems placed, including ratings, in order to access this content and this is where the problem
lies. The film industry does not consider changing the appeal of entertainment due to this issue. The
film industry is dependent on adults and children alike in order to sustain their economic success.
Without the support of the general public, their profit would plummet and create chaos in the
entertainment industry itself. While not allowing children to attend rated R movies with their
parents seems like the simplest solution, it is not a plausible one. Upset parents and loss of profit
for billion dollar companies impedes this solution s implementation. The dangers of children being
exposed to violence in media content is a great concern to many but not to the film industry.
Additionally, many parents are uninformed and do not recognize the potential harm associated with
exposing children to fictionalized violence. For a solution to exist between concerned parents and
an industry focused around profit, negotiation has to benefit the multibillion dollar industry in its
primary focus. In

The Unnamed Wife in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Essay
The Unnamed Wife in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight the green knight s wife plays a pivotal role in the story. Yet,
she is never given a name and it is unclear what motivates her actions. She could simply be
following her husband s orders to seduce this visiting knight. She could be under the tutelage of
Morgan le Fay. Or she may be acting under her own guidance and using her sexuality to carry out
her own desires or gain power. In light of this uncertainty, the unnamed wife s role in the bedroom
scene is also hard to decipher. As a woman she should be submissive, and yet it is Gawain who is

She also refers to Gawain as, my captive knight . This suggests that Gawain is in the submissive
position, which is not typically how a powerful, male knight is perceived. Oddly enough, this is
the case in medieval society. The lord is the master and the knight pledges loyalty to the lord and
his lady. In this sense the knight is actually in a lower social position than the lady, and this
problemitizes the typical gender roles. For instance, Gawain must tell the wife, I am yours to
command, to kiss when you please in order to live up to the expectations of a courteous knight.
His social role as a knight causes him to submit to this cunning woman. The lady is able to exert
control over Gawain while still appearing submissive, because of Gawain s conflicting social and
gender roles.
However, the gender roles and power relations between the wife and Gawain are further
complicated when considering the wife s loyalty to her husband. If she is merely following his
orders and offering her body to whom ever he commands, then she is undoubtedly submissive.
Clearly the wife s actions are in line with her husband s plans. In the end he tells Gawain, And the
wooing of my wife it was all my scheme! Despite this fact, it is uncertain wheatear the wife is

Overture Beethoven
This overture is perhaps of the most hard work written by Beethoven. It s hard not just to listen,
but also to play. The first time you listen Fidelio might be a little bit confused and bored;
however, after two or three times, you start to understand how complex and delicate this overture
is. Every time I listen to Fidelio I notice something new, and how can I not listen to something
new in a story of personal sacrifice, heroism and triumph?! Perhaps Beethoven wrote it in a way
to make the listener image different stories told by different people every time they listen. Sir
Colin Davis did an excellent job ahead of his orchestra. They were able to reflect on their
instruments every emotion hidden between the notes. A good orchestra plays

David Hume s Philosophy Of Bad Faith
Jessica, great post!
I really liked your description of the Bad Faith video. It was interesting to hear about what bad
faith actually was, and for you to reiterate my believe that having good faith and optimism will
take one to their true destiny! Also, I like how you described your perspective on Hume s
philosophy of identity. I agree with you, identity is a function of the brain and of one s mental
reasoning which is not always supported by reality. One can see themselves a different way due to
their own experiences and formed perceptions; nonetheless, another individual can see that same
person in a completely different light from their own experiences with them/formed opinions of
them.

Names In The Bible
Since day one, names have been important and special. It is the first gift we receive from our
parents the day we are born, and it is how we identify ourselves from that day forward. The first
thing that is said when introducing oneself is your name. There s something about calling
someone by name that indicates meaning and intentionality. Names are important to our
parents, our friends, and everyone around us, but most importantly, they are special and
significant to God. In the Bible, there is a pattern of God giving people new names when they
realize their calling. For example, Abram was changed to Abraham and Saul was changed to
Paul after his conversion on the road to Damascus. In Isaiah 43:1 it says, Do not fear, for I have
redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. The God of the universe knows
and calls us by name. You can t get more loving and personal than that. In an article about the
importance of God knowing each of our names, Beth Ariel states, He knows each of us personally
and intimately, calling us by name. It is almost too much for our finite minds to grasp that the God
who created the heavens and the earth knows each of us by name (Ariel 1). In the Bible, God not...

The Importance Of Material Evidence In Athenian Democracy
Archaeology provides material evidence such as coins, pottery, brooches, metalwork, sculpture,
inscriptions, architecture, roads, villas, military camps, forts, temples, tombs, graves, weapons, etc.
Studying the remnants of ruins and the discovered artefacts teaches one more about the people who
created and used them more quickly and efficiently than studying literary sources. These can help
us to understand how people in civilisations accomplished certain things, such as how the Athenian
democratic constitution worked and survived as long as it did. Furthermore, material evidence also
helps us to better understand the literary sources and even more clearly visualise some of the
described events, people and objects. Additionally, archaeological

Spying In Sony s Film, Without You, There Is No Us
Spying could be defined as observing furtively and to perceive by careful observation. Literature
resembles spying because an author writes a story line that containing characters who interact and
build up the plot; as a reader or viewer, we see what happens within the characters. Also, the author
has the ability to create an espionagestory line or narrate what goes on. An example of this type of
literature spying would be the production of the film, The Interview, where Seth Rogen and James
Franco both have the opportunity to produce and act in the film. In 2014, Sony s film production
of The Interview rose a controversial argument between the North Korean government and Sony
Corporation, which later involved president Barak Obama. The film directed by and starring Seth
Rogen and James Franco, begins with a tabloid show run by Dave Skylark and Aaron Rapoport.

The Effects Of Tinnitus On The Body Of Life
Introduction
Tinnitus is an ongoing ear noise affected by the build up of wax or medicine that is dangerous in
the ear structures. It also caused by the inner ear cell damage. Once these hairs split in the inner ear,
they leak random electrical impulses to the brain, resulting in tinnitus (Brinson, 2006). These are
tiny soft hair in the inner ear that moves about due to the pressure of sound waves. The hairs
activate ear cells to release electrical signal over the auditory nerve to the brain. Then the brain will
convert these signals into sound, the perception of sound such as ringing in the absence of any
external stimulus. Thus, can distress and affect the person s freedom (Burkey. 2006).
Quality of life
Tinnitus affects the quality of life negatively as it impacts the daily life and influences older
people in a different manner. As a result, many people suffer from emotional problems and
depression (explained later) (Gutierrez, 2012). Tinnitus plays a role in individuals social life since
elderlies become sensitive to certain sounds like ongoing noises and therefore; avoid social
situations thus, approximately 30 million older adults suffer from constant tinnitus (Burkey, 2006).
(Gutierrez, 2012). As a consequence, they get isolated quickly and felt tinnitus is the obstacle to
their overall life (Brinson, 2006). The psychological effect present before the beginning of tinnitus

Consolations In Memoriam
Conclusion As the title, The Consolations of Alfred Tennyson s In Memoriam, suggests, this
dissertation aimed to clarify the various modes of consolation that were experienced by Alfred
Tennyson, depicted in the text of In Memoriam, following the poignant and untimely death of
Arthur Henry Hallam. The richness of the poem as a monument to grief is partly because of its
outstanding length and newly invented rhyme scheme, but also because the long time period over
which it was composed. In order to understand the consolations in the poem, the text was analyzed
from several perspectives. Firstly, the dissertation sought out the places where consolation could be
found, and these were divided into three objects of analysis: the Word of God, Tennyson s own
words, and the remnants of Hallam.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In In Memoriam, the process of consolation includes moments of silence, which results from
several core ideas. These moments come from the inaptness of Tennyson s words, and a
corresponding retreat to silence in a monastically inspired withdrawal to contemplate and endure
the pain of loss. These emotions are sometimes reflected in the landscape depicted in the poem.
Most importantly, the moments of silence work as a catalyst in In Memoriam, which prompt the
reunion of Tennyson with Hallam, from the most appalling silence of all, death. These moments of
silence are broken by the verse, which alleviates Tennyson s grief, and are accompanied by
Tennyson throughout the poem. Although it is true that music breaks silence, there are other
aspects that contribute to silence breaking. Silence is broken by silence in the form of Hallam s
letter, and is the most important salve to his grief. Furthermore, silence is broken by the ringing of
bells, which appear at critical turning points in In Memoriam. The nature of the ringing bells
changes as Tennyson moves toward

Three Ways to Know That Your Roof Needs to Be Replaced

Weather elements such as wind, rain and even the UV rays from the sun cause signs of wear to

1. The Age of the Roof
Roofs with asphalt shingles only last about 20 to 25 years and at times, less depending on the
quality of the shingle and the install. If your roof is approaching this age range, it is time to
consider replacing it with a new one rather than just patch jobs to repair the issues. A professional

India s The Partition Of India
The partition of India is one of the defining chapters in India s entire history. Although many
different reasons caused the partition, political factors were a key player in bringing about this
monumental change in India s borders. The pre existing communal differences between Hindus
and Muslims grew as a result of the fears of both groups losing power and giving up control to
the other. The partition which was supposed to grant freedom and independence for all Indians
resulted in creating a deeper hatred and animosity which would cost countless lives through
riots, rape, and mass murder for decades to come. Gandhi said in actual life, it is impossible to
separate us into two nations. We are not two nations. Every Moslem will have a Hindu name if he
goes back far enough in his family history. Every Moslem is merely a Hindu who has accepted
Islam. That does not create nationality. . . . We in Indiahave a common culture. In the North, Hindi
and Urdu are understood by both Hindus and Moslems. In Madras, Hindus and Moslems speak
Tamil, and in Bengal, they both speak Bengali and neither Hindi nor Urdu. When communal riots
take place, they are always provoked by incidents over cows and by religious processions. That
means that it is our superstitions that create the trouble and not our separate nationalities. He tried
to unite all Indians by showing them that having different religions does not separate Indians and
the only path to true independence would be to come

The Importance Of A Good Life
As a young adult, it is really difficult to define what a good life is. A Good life it s an expression
that is interpreted differently by every individual. However, my humanities class helped me
clarify my thoughts about how the term good life could be defined. A good life is living with
ambition and creating new experiences with the ones you love the most. For me, a good life not
only consist of me reaching my goals but it also lies on helping the people around me to reach
their goals. Having the right values and priorities complement a gratifying life. During this
journey, I have learned that analyzing several situations can lead to a great way of associating
ideas and understanding certain events that take place in my life. Medicine is a very rigorous
field of study, therefore I must hold the concept of a good life in order to achieve my goals and
keep my priorities in the right order. Humanities has been a great base for me to develop the right
mindset to pursue my career. For instance, the modules: The True Purpose of a Liberal Education,
Morality and Ethics, Happiness, Nature, and Life Affirmation, were the ones that made the most
significant impact on my perspective in life. In today s society, people are becoming accustomed to
following the popular beliefs instead of thinking in depth and forming their own opinions. In some
cases, it is evident that some individuals deviate away from the obvious which leads them to
become unconsciously ignorant. In

  • 2. Mr. Erwin Martin In James Thurber s The Catbird Seat The Catbird Seat by James Thurber introduces the prime character, Mr. Erwin Martin has been an employee at F S for 22 years. Over time, he has established a reputation of one who does wrong, but they are unaware of what monstrous deeds he is capable of. Mrs. Ulgine Barrows is the latest to join F S, where she has only been for a few months. In addition to her coming, she takes it upon herself, to reign over the established company. Continuously, she pushes his buttons further, and he is anticipating to rub her out, in order to rid of her before she begins taking over(1). This is how he justifies the idea to killher. This is the moment he is visualizing repeatedly, and one can assume that he will take her life once he sneaks in. There is no reasonable explanation he would be here. This woman was nothing other than a nuisance to him, and it is obvious he is showing up with unpleasant intentions. He does not walk in as a guest, he prowls like a poisonous snake, on the move for his prey. Once he is clear of potential witnesses, he makes his way to her door where she stands. This shocks him and he moves into swift motion and, He rushed past her like a football tackle (3). Mrs. Barrows blows it off with a snarky comment, but there is suspicion lingering, when he questions if there is anyone else there. Sadly, she does not head warning, but instead she answers him concluding they are indeed alone, and he is at ease. Frantically, he scans the room for the weapon for murdering her. Mr. Martin is not a hunt for any weapon, the text reads, Mr. Martin looked quickly around the living room for THE weapon (3). The search for something to hit her with is not random, it is the weapon he assumes would be available, as mapped out. Initially, his plan all along was to kill her with whatever he found in her place. Following, he catches sight of a knife and he test if it is sharp enough, but came to a loss because, It was blunt. It wouldn t do (4). Obviously, this is a red flag, especially considering how much he despises her. Not only is he seeking the appropriate sharp object, he also makes sure to retain his gloves, in case there is a residue of blood or fingerprints. Once he fails to find a dagger, a sudden thought arises. Instead of striking her dead, he realizes it is possible to deceive her. As he lies, he still throws back a drink and smokes to further eliminate the chances that his employees believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. New Place Research Paper New Place Going to a new place was my great experience for learning coping skills, for developing self discipline, and making friends. When I was about nine years old, I was a troubled boy. As a fourth grader, I went to an elementary school in my small village. However, I grew up without supervision because my father, as a soldier, was often deployed far away from home. After school times, I hung around with other undisciplined boys in our neighborhood, and was influenced by neighbor boys misbehaviors. I ran into mischief. Fortunately, my mother believed in Catholic schools. She saved my life by sending me to a providing Catholic Church school, very far from home, in Thuduc city, Vietnam for my education. Notre Dame was a gorgeous school where I probably started to develop my coping skills in my childhood. As a reward of my self discipline, my math skills improved greatly, and I earned good grades. In addition, Striving for Excellence guided me to overcome learning obstacles at Notre Dame School with a great learning environment, separated from the world outside. During school years, my friends and I challenged ourselves and competed amongst each other in order to excel. On class projects that required teamwork, we cooperated and needed each other. When playing sports, we trained and pushed ourselves hard, and we tried to keep sportsmanship. Finally, renovating my behaviors with a strict discipline, Notre Dame changed my life totally, as I have grown up both physically and mentally with other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Factors Of Favor Of The Argument Essay Module 2 Assignment 2: Factors in Favor of and Against Name: Kellie Runyon Topic: Universal health care: Governmental provision of free health care for all citizens. Part 1: Matrix Strength of the Argument (1 strongest, 6 weakest) Reasons for Reasons Against 1 Universal health care would be affordable for everyone Millions of people would save money with universal healthcare due to everyone paying an equal amount; whether it be through tax increase or some other form. However, it will amount to less money than those who are paying for healthcare now due to the fact that every citizen pays for it and not only the people who can afford the raising prices. Tax Increases to cover the healthcare change. 2 Public health would improve with universal health care All citizens will have unlimited access to the medical professionals. Many people that cannot afford insurance will now have unlimited opportunities to get annual exams and help to prevent major health issues from going unseen. With an increase in the amount of people needing/wanting medical treatment, there will be a shortage of medical staff. This will cause longer wait times, limited resources, as well as not having enough doctors and specialists to meet the demand. 3 The cost of healthcare would be lower for the US when expenses are prioritized. Other countries that provided universal health care spend half as much as the US does with the amount of people who currently have health insurance. The US is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most drastically is the shift I have made from pursuing a Management Information Sciences and Business Analytics Degree, to a Business Management with HR specialization degree. I have always been highly driven by aspiration and very eager to realize it, however I never had the ability to identify the strategy for accomplishing my success (Krishna, 2014). Working inside the Career Center and exploring the tools provided to me provides, perhaps for the first time in my life, the tools necessary to become successful. Throughout my life, my careers have been based on what was offered to me, instead of what I was seeking. Understanding that as an ENTP I am able to adapt to most situations, quickly master new concepts and all while building meaningful relationships, helped me to see that just because I am really good at a particular task does not mean I should do it as a full time career. The boredom I will inevitably experience along with the day to day detailed tasked that will pile up may cause me to lose focus and eliminate me from being as successful as possible. As long as I stay honest with myself about my strengths and weaknesses, instead of trying to handle everything, I will thrive in any career that is in need of a new way of thinking (16 Personalities, 2015). • 10. Outline Of The DSCA Command Relationships During Hurricane... DSCA Command Relationships during Katrina SFC Marson, Kellen Master Leader Course Class 18 001 Introduction On August 29th, 2005, Hurrican Katrina, a Category 4 hurricane, made landfall. Katrina left severe destruction along the Golf Coast and evenutally breached the New Orleans levee system putting the city under water. The death toll was estimated at 1,245 people and an estimated $105 billion dollars in damage occured (Knabb 2011). During Katrina, command relationships failed because of political differences between President Bush and Louisiana Governor, Kathleen Blanco as to who should command the National Guard, delays at the National Guard Bureau (NGB) in deploying troops and equipment, and failing to create a unity of effort between National Guard and Active Duty forces. National Guard The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina left tens of thousands of people in New Orleans without adequate water, food, shelter, and physical security. Law enforcement was in disarray as 200 New Orleans Police officers left their post. The Louisiana National Guard was short on personnel and much of their equipment was unserviceable due to flooding. Thousands of people needed help and critical distribution of resources from Defense Support of Civilian Authorities (DSCA) failed. As New Orleans spiraled out of control, looting and crime were becoming a serious problem. The Louisiana National Guard focused on rescue missions, rather than keeping Law Order. The public began to blame President Bush and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco for their poor response to the recovery efforts. In a meeting on Airforce One, President Bush tried to convince Governor Blanco to federalize the National Guard in order to have all forces under one central command. Governor Blanco refused this offer, believing that Bush s attempt to federalize the Louisiana National Guard was just attempt to blame her for post Katrina problems (Farazmand, 2014). Before I go into detail, let me explain. When I got home from school yesterday, I had a package sitting at my front door full of seven cassette tapes with no return address or any explanation of what I was even supposed to do with them. I figured I would pop them into my dad s stereo in the garage and find out; little did I know what I was about to hear would change my life forever. I popped the first tape in, pulled up a stool, and pressed play. As soon as I heard her voice, I felt my pink, warm cheeks immediately turn a ghostly white. It was the voice of Hannah Baker, a girl who just committed suicide two weeks ago. We were just classmates. Maybe friends. Maybe I even sort of liked her. I don t know, I never really got the chance to know her. She never let me. Anyways, as I listened to her soft voice echo in the garage, she explained what I was listening to. It was her recorded suicide note with thirteen stories, each on one side of a cassette tape. Each story explained one person s impact on her decision to end her life. I paused the tapes and figured I should use something more private, for fear that someone in my house would hear. In this article, Hekker depicts her personal experience of being a full time working mother and how much it hurt when when she was divorced after 40 elongated years of marriage. It was mortifying for her to cope with the loneliness she felt after their divorce and, unfortunately she was forced to reestablish herself back from scratch. By alluding to her past (The Satisfactions of Housewifery and Motherhood) and through the use of her degrading and defensive language, Hekker advises women and other housewives to be prepared for anything to happen to themselves in a marriage. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature length animation to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also the film was more rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and three dimensional but their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. He is super confidant and suffers from delusions of grandeur. However although he may be a little irritating he is still likeable, cheerful and helpful. He has too much confidence in own abilities. This is why when he sees the advertisement for Buzz Lightyear Action figures he completely loses his will to live and is unable to do anything. Unlike the omnipresent god of the Christian who is above man in wisdom, power and character, these gods are portrayed as a family. My thesis thus is that gods are not impotent but are in a lot aggrandized versions of man who control the fate of man. Gods as stated earlier are very much like man. One way to see this analogy is to compare gods to the flaws of man. This is significant because it demonstrates that goods weren t the sole exchange and that religion was able to penetrate West Africa and impact the native people. The main motive for this mass adaptation of Islam as the dominant religion stems from strategic aims, from previous kingdoms, to diminish possible attacks from Muslim territories across the Sahara. This created alliance between Mali and other Arab powers, the might of the [Mali] Empire was such that the Arabs at times called on it for military aid (Diop, 93). It sparks awareness to the 1994 massacre that was carried out by the Hutu rebels in Rwanda. The film allows viewers to engage in the issue through its emotional and intense screenplay. New York Times critic Stephen Holding brands Hotel Rwandaon the entertainment aspect of violence and emotions, but ignores the true human nature of the Rwandan Genocide. Holding argues that Hotel Rwanda radically downplays the actual gore, which is observed through a film or from a distance. Bodies are strewn everywhere, but the streets don t run with blood, and no hideous mutilation is shown. Even the beatings seem tentative. This is true and is seen when Paul Rusesabagina and his driver, Gregoire, go out to get supplies for the Hotel. This particular scene is very foggy and when Paul steps out of the vehicle, he sees that there are dead bodies surrounding him. Hotel Rwanda is a rated PG 13 film. Thus, includes a mostly non graphic depiction of the genocide. However, contrary to what Holding says, it is not a flaw. Due to the film being less violent, it allows for younger viewers to be exposed to the issue, rather than a smaller audience. The primary focus of the film is not the act of killing itself, rather the fact that there was a genocide. The fact itself that 800,00 people died simply for being part of ... • 33. Who Shall Control Our Schools Summary In the 1920s, there was a great debate over the changing of values in America. The jazz age had erupted and with it, came new debates over what is best for the United States and it s children. America was in a crisis, fighting between its victorian history and the new world of advertisement and propaganda. One of the great debates during this time, was whether or not evolution should be taught in public schools. The difference in ideals between the conservatives and those who were modern was large. Most matters at this time had to do with the difference between church and state laws. Evolution and creationism were two of the biggest issues brought up between state and church. In an effort to keep evolution out of schools, the Butler Actwas put into place on March 23rd, 1925. The Butler Act was a law in Tennessee that made it illegal for public schools to teach evolution. The most famous challenge of the Butler Act was during the Scopes Trial in July 1925. In this trial, the state of Tennessee and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the state of California in recent times has been less harsh on marijuana by passing laws that allow recreational use across the state of California. • 35. Reflective Essay About My Mandala During the past few weeks in Global Perspectives we explored our personal culture, and the influences that shape it. Our task was to create a mandala: a circular set of symbols that convey the contrast between the sun and shadow sides of our personality. While the sun side is the disposition other people see, the shadow side captures unseen aspects of our personality. In this reflection, I further examine how I embody the characteristic behind each symbol and how I came to possess this characteristic. First, on the sun side (right), the uppermost symbol is a firecracker, which represents my exuberance. Firecrackers are loud, colorful, and unpredictable. Being the youngest of my friends and family, I have always been loud craving attention and achieved it through antics, similar to a firecracker exploding. The Book Thif Book Analysis Brian Percival s 2014 film adaptation of the novel, The Book Thief is set during World War II and focuses heavily on the Nazi Regime and the horrors surrounding the war. It also introduces the reader to a German perspective of the war. During World War II, the Nazi Party reigned terror over Germany and many people became victims of the cruelty of their circumstances. This is demonstrated implicitly throughout, the film of The Book Thief , however, the fear of the war still surrounds the characters in the film. Despite being a film, that presents a German view on the war, the film clearly displays the sense of fright that would be observed by a Jew during the Holocaust. The fear can also be sensed after the innocent acts of the child characters in the film. Despite the film not explicitly displaying the terror caused by the Nazis in Germany, The Book Thief still demonstrated a sense of fright amongst the characters, that would realistically be present during World War II. During World War II, the act of opposing the Nazi view could potentially result in death, however, not displaying the rituals and practices of supporting the Nazi party could also result in punishment. Consequently, the film also shows various instances where the act of not abiding by the laws or practices of the Nazis resulted in harsh punishment. • 51. The Effects Of Tinnitus On The Body Of Life Introduction Tinnitus is an ongoing ear noise affected by the build up of wax or medicine that is dangerous in the ear structures. It also caused by the inner ear cell damage. Once these hairs split in the inner ear, they leak random electrical impulses to the brain, resulting in tinnitus (Brinson, 2006). These are tiny soft hair in the inner ear that moves about due to the pressure of sound waves. The hairs activate ear cells to release electrical signal over the auditory nerve to the brain. Then the brain will convert these signals into sound, the perception of sound such as ringing in the absence of any external stimulus. Consolations In Memoriam Conclusion As the title, The Consolations of Alfred Tennyson s In Memoriam, suggests, this dissertation aimed to clarify the various modes of consolation that were experienced by Alfred Tennyson, depicted in the text of In Memoriam, following the poignant and untimely death of Arthur Henry Hallam. The richness of the poem as a monument to grief is partly because of its outstanding length and newly invented rhyme scheme, but also because the long time period over which it was composed. In order to understand the consolations in the poem, the text was analyzed from several perspectives. Firstly, the dissertation sought out the places where consolation could be found, and these were divided into three objects of analysis: the Word of God, Tennyson s own words, and the remnants of Hallam.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In In Memoriam, the process of consolation includes moments of silence, which results from several core ideas. These moments come from the inaptness of Tennyson s words, and a corresponding retreat to silence in a monastically inspired withdrawal to contemplate and endure the pain of loss. These emotions are sometimes reflected in the landscape depicted in the poem. Most importantly, the moments of silence work as a catalyst in In Memoriam, which prompt the reunion of Tennyson with Hallam, from the most appalling silence of all, death. These moments of silence are broken by the verse, which alleviates Tennyson s grief, and are accompanied by Tennyson throughout the poem. Although it is true that music breaks silence, there are other aspects that contribute to silence breaking.
