Why Is It Hard To Engage In A Social Movement
Q 1: Those more likely to engage in a social movement are, the relatively well off, well educated,
and active (Meyer 62). Furthermore, movements for collective action, tend to be full of people
from the middle class and above (63). In other words, the type of people who are the easiest to
mobilize for collective action in a social movementare college educated individuals who are not
living paycheck to paycheck. Individuals who are less likely to participate are those without
biographical availability , a term coined by Doug McAdam to mean the absence of responsibilities
in terms of financial or emotional support. A lack of availability will make these individuals the
hardest to mobilize when compared to your average college student.
Q 2: Utilizing various incentives is useful when trying to increase mobilization for collective action.
Meyer mentions three kinds of incentives that can be employed: purposive, material, and solidary.

They maintain the flow of resources coming to them by offering services to the community or
donating money to supportive political candidates. One good example of this is the National Rifle
Association (NRA), which provides various services such as gun safety classes and a monthly
magazine while donating money to political candidates in order to generate more funding and new
membership. Other ways that SMOs support themselves include the use of email capture and
Internet connections such as Moveon.org. Starting as a reaction to the desire to impeach President
Clinton, this website continues on today by using e mail and petitions that create a virtual march to
get their goals across. Meanwhile, other organization such as the Public Interest Research Groups

Factors That Consider Implicit Feedback May Be Classified...
2.3 Related Study
Personalization strategies that consider implicit feedback may be classified into two main
categories: document based and concept based. Document based strategies consider discovering
user document preferences from the clickthrough information, to find out a ranking operator that
optimizes the user s browsing and clicking preferences on the retrieved documents. Joachims [2002]
initially proposed extracting user clicking preferences from the clickthrough information by
assuming that a user would scan the search result list from top to bottom. the click preferences are
then utilized by a ranking SVM algorithmic rule [Joachims 2002] to find out a ranker that most
closely fits the user s preferences. Tan et al. [2004] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Li, Kitsuregawa [2007] also proposed a similar adaptive approach based on user behaviors. Instead
of using ODP as the taxonomy, Google Directory3 is used as the predefined taxonomy to construct
user profiles.
In Li et al. [2007], independent models for long term and short term user preferences are proposed
to compose the user profiles. The long term preferences are captured by using Google Directory,
while the short term preferences are determined from the user s document preferences (the most
frequently browsed documents).
More recently, Xu et al. [2007] proposed naturally separating client intrigued subjects from the
client s close to home archives (e.g. skimming histories and messages). The extricated points are
then sorted out into a progressive client profile (just called HUP in consequent dialog), which is to
rank the indexed lists as per the client s topical needs.
Chuang and Chien [2004] proposed to cluster and organize users queries into a hierarchical
structure of topic classes. A Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering (HAC) [25] algorithm is first
employed to construct a binary tree cluster hierarchy. The binary tree hierarchy is then partitioned
in order to create subhierarchies forming a multiway tree cluster hierarchy like the hierarchical
organization of Yahoo [6] and DMOZ [3].
Baeza Yates et al. [2003] proposed a query clustering method that groups similar queries according
to their semantics. The method creates a vector representation Q for a query q,

Internal Medicine Internist Personal Statement
It was 2011 when the revolution burst out. I was studying for my pharmacology exam when I saw
on TV that people were getting injured and shot. There were a lot of field hospitals and
volunteering doctors that I knew. I wanted to go there and assist the injured, but I knew that my
lack of medical training would not allow me to do that. Since then I have been thinking of the best
medical field to help and be useful in the future. Internists are who people think of when they think
of a doctor and after having the opportunity to rotate through different specialties during my
internship, I realized that internal medicineexemplifies what I look upon to be, a compassionate,
respected, and insightful physician. When Internists go to work, they do not know what to... Show

It is the intellectual challenge every day and the opportunity to provide continuous care for the
patients that make internal medicine extremely appealing to me. I believe that with the
knowledge that internal medicine residency would provide me with; I could address the patient
s emotional needs as well as their medical needs. I have been inspired by my attending during my
rotations. I rotated for two months with him, during which I realized that in spite of the limited
time he had, he always took the time to explain and give support to his patients. He had to
manage inpatients as well as ICU patients simultaneously, but he always knew how to manage the
patients and support their families in addition to teaching us. All the patients respected him and
knew they were in safe hands with him. This was the doctor I would like to follow in footsteps, a
doctor who is sensible, well informed and skilled, thorough but efficient, and acting as a humane

Printed Crt Essay
PRINTED CIRCUITS COMPONENTS FOR A JIT FACTORY Mr. Carl Burger, supply manager
at Acacia Company, is faced with a problem of researching several electronic components for a
new graphic plotter, manufactured in a just in time environment. Acacia Company is a major
producer of graphic plotters, renowned for top quality and innovative products. The newest unit in
the product line is the 440A, a relatively inexpensive eight pen, A size (8ВЅ x 11 ) plotter, designed
for use with personal computers. Thoughtful design of the component parts, along with a dedicated
value engineering effort, resulted in substantially fewer component parts required for assembly.
Extensive market research indicated that the plotter was priced lower than most... Show more

The PC cell contains state of the art robotics equipment requiring little human intervention. The
equipment is designed to select the component parts while still packaged, load its feeder bins,
and automatically insert the components into PC boards based on a computerized XY insertion
program. There is also a JIT stockroom facility near the production areas, and a separate MRP
system. Parts purchased for the 440A must meet special JIT requirements. Suppliers are requested
to use bar coded labels to identify their shipments for optical wanding into inventory, and the
automatic equipment requires specially designed packaging tubes and parts for taping for
autoinsertion of PC components. Furthermore, the delivery of most JIT parts must be weekly
(instead of usual monthly delivery), in order to maintain a minimum of inventory in the stockroom.
Deliveries must be highly reliable to prevent stockouts and line shutdowns. The parts that Carl is
considering resourcing are four integrated circuits (ICs), seven diodes, and three transistors. These
parts are all low cost, industry standard parts, with the exception of five of the diodes, which are
manufactured by only one company, Monitor Inc. Monitor is the industry leader in diodes and
transistors and supplies Acacia with quality parts at competitive prices for other plotters. While the
440A was still in the design phase, Carl and the electrical engineers began preliminary

Reasons Why The Driving Age Should Not Be Raised To 18
Most teenagers look forward to the big 16 for numerous reasons. There are lots of factors for this
reason, including, more responsibilities, more independence, and one of the big ones, getting a
drivers licenses. The age limits for driving have been debated on for such a long time now. The age
limit for drivingvaries according to what country you re living in. In my opinion, the driving age
in the United States should not be raised to age 18 because I believe that age has nothing to do
with responsibility, getting to and from school and curricular activities can be hard without your
own transportation, and not all families have a person eligible to drive.
People believe that the age 16 is too young to have such a big responsibility. In reality

Abuse Power In The Crucible
Another lesson I learned from reading The Crucible, is to not abuse power. Abusing power is
using power to an advantage in a bad way. Good leaders use their power to influence people in a
positive way, while bad leaders use their power mainly for personal benefits. In the play, many of
the characters with power abused it. They took complete control of situations influencing other
characters to do bad things. One character from the book that abuses his power is Judge
Danforth. Danforth ran all the trials for the witches , and was completely unfair. He made it
basically impossible for an accused witch to be innocent. He also didn t allow suspects to have
lawyers or anyone give information that disagreed with him. He considered different opinions
as contempt of court . When Mr. Nurse was clashing with Danforth over the issue, Danforth said,
do you know who I am, Mr. Nurse? (Act lll, Scene l) This shows that Danforth has the cocky
mindset that he is above everyone. Good leaders should be able to listen to critics. Danforth
believed that everyone accused was a witch; so he didn t even bother giving them a fair chance.
Many people died under his signature. He used his power to contribute to the destruction of the
town and many lives. Another example from the book deals with the ringleader of the group of
girls caught in the woods; Abigail Williams. Abigail happened to be the leader of the group, and
was completely evil. Abigail was able to influence a whole group of girls to

Watch live roulette
Live roulette has become quite popular these days, its popularity is mostly because of the fact
that players can play live roulette and experience the game as if playing in real life. The live

Messing With The Forces Of Order In Macbeth Essay
In the classic play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the once honorable soldier Macbeth,
becomes corrupt as he murders the King of Scotland to take the throne. This newfound evilness
causes him to mess with fate and is eventually killed by Macduff. The play Macbeth shows how
messing with the forces of order will lead to your demise.
In Macbeth, Shakespeare shows that messing with the forces of order will lead to your demise
through Macbeth. Macbeth loses the trust of the people who were once loyal to him, after he
killed Duncan. He murders Duncan so that he could be king; he messed with the natural order
so he can be king which causes him to lose people s trust, such as Macduff. This is the start of his
demise. In Act 3 Scene 4, After Banquo is kill because of Macbeth s order, he begins to see
Banquo s spirit while no one else can. Macbeth wanted to take his fate is in his own hands and

This results in the start of her demise because by calling on evil spirits, she gets rid of all of the
good qualities she had. In Act 5 Scene 1, Lady Macbeth rubs her hands obsessively. Since she
was an accessory of murder and she keeps it hidden, it bottled up inside her. It comes out as she
hallucinates blood. She is loses her mind as a result of messing with the forces of order. In Act 5

characteristics of effective communication. I will use a few excerpts out of the communication

The sandwich approach tells us the correct use of praise and gives us a formula to use to make
sure we give praise to our athletes in an appropriate manner. The sandwich approach states that
you should say something positive, correct the skill that needs attention, and end with another
positive comment. In the qoate from the film I used above, Coach Carter does not use the
sandwhich approach excatly as it is modeled, but he does praise his team in an appropriate
manner. A coach will be more efffective in correcting the skills and habits of any of their athletes
by using the sandwich approach. The athlete will feel good about himself/herself hearing the first
positive statement and this will also grab that athletes attention to the constructive critism or skill
critique from the coach. The coach will leave the athlete with a positive concluding statement such
as, I see you excelling in the future with this . The athlete will still have a good feeling at the end
of the conversation and will pay attention to what the coach told him to do differently to improve
his/her skill.
In the movie, Coach Carter is consistent in his statements about what his intentions are as the new
basketball coach and what his goals/expectations are of the young athletes. Chapter 11 of our text

Abstract
During the 1920s and 1930s, Britain saw a movement of its inner city industries moving out to
adjacent sites which lead to Britain s road network to be redeveloped.
Britain s first motorway , the 13 km Preston bypass was opened in 1958, and following this the
Goverment planned to improve 6750km of road to at least dual carriageway standard to form
strategic inter urban network for England. This network was marked as a national commitment,
which would enhance road safety, be easily connected to all major centres of population, promote
economic growth and regional development.

Political Analysis Of Immigration Reform

Political analysis of immigration reform
U.S. as an immigration country, has a long history of immigration. It is a complex demographic
phenomenon that has been a major source of population growth and cultural change of the United
States. People came here because of varies reason, the major reason among them are fleeing crop
failure, land and job shortage, rising taxes, and famine. Nearly 12 million people immigrate to the
United States between 1870 and 1900, making it the world largest immigrate country.
As an old saying goes: Everything is a two edged sword! although the U.S. has been benefits a lot
form the upcoming immigrant, there are a lot of social and political problem associate with it. As
politician often put when they made the speech: current immigration system in the United States is
broken. There are several reasons why the immigration system in the U.S. needed to be reformed:
families are separated, immigrant workers are exploited, people died when they try to across the
border, and the discrimination against immigrants.
Here are some stunning facts about immigration in the U.S.: 10 20 million illegal aliens presently
roam the U.S. and the illegal alien s population doubled in the 1990 s. They counted about 5.1%
of the U.S. labor force, which is a huge amount. There are 72000 aliens arrested each year for drug
use offenses and they counted about 25% of the federal prison population. The

you like working with people, you would not be happy with a job working on a machine in an

probably would not be happy in a partnership. Do you consider yourself a morning or night

Do you consider yourself as a friendly service minded person who is willing to help others? If so,
then you would do well in a business that deals with providing a service to customers on a one on
one basis. Many people with these characteristics often participate at craft fairs, trade shows and
conventions because they like dealing with people.
Do you like being a leader and handling responsibilities? Then you would enjoy working in a

Decaying Gratification
Aristotle once formed a compelling viewpoint, stating in his discussion on self mastery that
many individuals choose to have a weakness of will. In other words, they know what is best for
them, but still choose to do something else. In an experiment done by Walter Michel, many of
the individuals in the experiment have proven to make a rational decision to not do something
that their basic instincts were pushing them to do. Aristotle s engrossing point of view has
shown that willpower can be achieved, and make the impossible things possible. Based on my
own experience, I had not thought about delaying gratification or self control. Typically, I try to
make decisions to act in ways that will benefit me, although sometimes I slip into a moment of
weakness. When the Oreo was placed on my desk, my basic instinct was that I was hungry. Even
though I knew that I could receive another Oreo, if I waited until the end of class to eat it, I had
slipped into a instant of frailty and eventually, just succumbed to it. I have found that this sense of

Home Schooling Education
Homeschooling is the education of children at home, usually taught by a parent or tutor, rather than
in public or private school. Homeschooling is an option for families living in isolated rural
locations, living temporarily abroad, or families who travel often. This method of education is
growing around the world. Homeschools use different educational methods such as: Unit Studies,
All in One Curricula, Natural Learning, and Autonomous Learning. In the Unit Studies method
multiple subjects are studied in relation to a single topic. The All in One Curricula is another
method in which the curriculum and homework of the student are similar or identical to the
curriculum at a public or private school. Natural Learning is a method where children follow
knowledge based on their interest and the parents take part in their learning activities. In the
Autonomous Learning method, the child is responsible for their own learning environment. Parents
give different reasons for choosing to homeschool their children. According to the National Center
for Education Statistics, the three reasons parents chose homeschoolingwere: their concern about the
school environment, to provide religious or moral instruction, and unhappiness with the curriculum
available at other schools (Gaither 1). Homeschooling happened because of the changes in public
school and in families. Public schools grew larger and the schools began to add offensive courses to
their curriculum. Milton Gaither states,

Do Nations Truly Last
Do Nations Truly Last
Do nations last forever? As Noah Feldman put it, Empires inevitably fall, and when they do,
history judges them for the legacies they leave behind. Many countries have shown this including
Rome, Ancient Greece and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The leaders and citizens of
these powerful nations all believed as if they were God among men and their country was the
shining light in a world full of darkness. As you know, they all eventually came to an end. No nation
can last forever, but it can leave a lasting impact on the world.
As we go through our lives, we learn by the experiences of ourselves and others. We might recall
how stupid and foolish our actions were and what we could have done better. Governing ... Show

which is why people stopped using Soviet money. Political struggle can destroy a country as
well. The USSR fell when challenged by NATO and the United States. Political struggle can also
be internal. Civil war tore apart Sierra Leone and is currently tearing apart Syria, Iran, and Iraq.
Weak leadership has destroyed civilizations from the beginning of time, for some odd reasons
people thought being the son of a ruler makes them qualified to rule.
It seems that when your country is on the brink of destruction, you would band together with your

Japanese-Americans Racism-Discrimination
Each day we live, taking for granted everything we have. Freedom to choose where to live, eat,
work, and go to school. What would happen if all of that was taken away? And not just by another
country, but by our own people. Our own government took our rights and belongings away
overnight. What would people do? On February 19 of 1942, the president of the United States,
Franklin D. Roosevelt, signed an evacuation order, ordering the evacuation of all persons deemed
a threat to national security from the West Coast to relocation centers further inland ( ). Meaning
anyone who looked like they were of japanese descent, was considered a threat to the security of
the United States. The racism towards the japanese people was in the way they were looked at,
how they lived in the camps, and how they were treated. On December 7, 1941 there was a tragic
attack on an American military base in Hawaii, called Pearl Harbor. It was led by the japanese
empire. This is what started it all, with the racism of the different ethnic groups towards to
japanese people. Each time fellow Americans saw someone of japanese descent, it brought up
memories of this day in history. The emotions it stirred up the pain and loss, created anger and
hatred towards each of these people. The people of America were scared. The president decided
to send the people of his own country away. Some say it was for their own protection, but others
say it was just because we were afraid of the Japanese American people

A Short history of wine)
By the middle half of the 1800 s Phylloxera, a disease in the vines destroyed over two thirds of
the vineyards in Europe and by 1875 Australia fell victim (John Beeston. (2008). History of Wine in
Australia) However with the strict regulations implemented in Australia, South Australia s Barossa
Valley remained free from Phylloxera and today has some of the oldest vines remaining in the
world.
By the 1980 s domestic wine consumption per capita had reached 17.3 litres, as the bag in a box an
Australian innovation had been perfected. (John Beeston. (2008). History of Wine in Australia)
In the Table Fig.1 below you can see and overview of the Australian winesector in 2007, it shows
Australia s biggest export markets as well as the most produced varietals in the country the top
being Chardonnay. In the last twenty years the Australian industry however has suffered and Bob
Oatley former owner of Rosemount got out at the right time and made a fortune. It was only in
the 1980 s that governments sponsored growers to pull out their vines to overcome the glut of
wine grapes. With low grape prices in the last seven years there has been debate for yet another
sponsored vine pull. (Nance Haxton (2006) Grape Glut ) Still today wineries continue to sell clean

Autistic savant syndrome is a rare condition that affects one in ten people with autism. They have

Similarities And Differences Between Antonia And The Great...
Both books were about love in some way. They both focus on a character who cares very deeply
for a significant woman. Gatsby was obsessed over Daisy. Jim loved Antonia. The woman they
loved had difficult lives, due to the fact that women s lives were set up to be made hard. They
had to marry a man of decent wealth, or do slave work. These were most women s only choices.
There were no jobs other than slave work for a woman, with only a few exceptions. Antonia was
stuck doing slave work for years, while Daisy was with a horrible rich man for support.
With both books one main choice a woman had to make was whether they would depend on a
man. Daisy made the choice yes, while Antonia at first was against this. In this world they lived
in, the easiest life decision they could make would usually be to find a nice man they could fall in
love with, marry, and depend on financially. This world was a man s world when it came to
work, so almost every woman would want a man. If this is the life they choose to lead, then they
need to maintain the perfect image that men look for. They need to live with a respectable
family if doing slave work, not have any children already, not have had sex with anyone and
have the information known publicly, and so on. Men, especially men of wealth, won t be
attracted to a woman who contradicts any of these. Therefore, Antonia had a hard time. She was
offered a job with a man who is known to sleep with his workers, or worse, but pays far more
than the opposing jobs she could get. She would be putting her reputation down the drain if she
accepted, but at this point in time she wasn t looking to depend on anyone. Daisy fell in love with
a man of much wealth, who has regular affairs. She shows her love for him a handful of times
throughout The Great Gatsby, so she wasn t involved for just the money. The money is most likely
why she fell for him in the first place, and part of the reason she stays, but over time she
developed a love for him. Tom is a horrible husband to Daisy, but without him she would have
next to no income, with no job opportunities that would help her match her life style. This is why
life can be so difficult for women at this time. They can t get good jobs, and in many

To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is used widely by Shakespeare. Throughout
the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1, Scene 2, we see her planning
on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The interactions between her and the other
characters show dramatic ironyas they do not realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience
does. Orsino, at the start of Act 2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario.
Orsino does not know the actual person he is talking to when he praises Cesario, just the same
when he says Cesario is semblative a woman s part , saying that Cesario looks like a woman. For
Shakespeare s audience there was a heightened level of irony because at that... Show more content

This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer and a clerk, as
a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner disguise to shield her real
personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the
Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form
of my intent. This shows how she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality
and physical disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is
disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing all about this.
This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to not have them fooled by Viola
s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as Viola plays a major part in the story and
without her the play would have a lot less comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her
actions, for example there would have been no love triangle without her and all the other
characters would not have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to
create amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem ignorant and
ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge of Viola s true identity.
Shakespeare resolves this confusion by Viola revealing herself in the last act, making it a zenith
ending, with all the characters present

My Time Playing Grand Theft Aut
As of now I have put in somewhere around 30 days of gameplay time into Grand Theft Auto 5

How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve
clocked up a bit of mileage?Once upon a time a 1958 Fender Stratocaster was just a second hand

over the last 20 years or so, with investors all over the world hoovering up any old six string with
a few dings, wrinkles and a six figure price tag... But what s the appeal? How do instruments
automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up a bit of
mileage?Being a little on the vintage side myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against
the shop windows of London s Tin Pan Alley during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les
Pauls. Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with
the right tool for the job. Some of the guitars that set my eyes aglow back then were undoubtedly
the Grail instruments of today s vintage market but in those days they would have probably cost
around ВЈ275, including a case and a spare set of strings.Alas, I never bought a Les Paulback then,
settling instead for a Gibson SG which I sold several years later when I caught a bad case of jazz
and consequently renounced solid body guitars in favour of arch tops. What can I say? I was
young and capricious...So when everything began going nuts during the 1990s, I kicked myself for
lack of foresight, but, being a rational chap,

Analyzing Sherlock Holmes Article Deduction
This passage comes from Sherlock Holmes s article on deduction, the unique process to which he
ascribes his success as a detective. He argues that through the power of deduction, or otherwise the
process of using clues and details to explain a hypothesis or argument. This passage shows a flaw
in Holmes s reasoning since the method being described is not that of deduction, but induction; the
process of making an argument to explain small clues or details. Nevertheless, Holme s reasoning
shows an important ideal in detective fictionof this era, where mundane objects are clues used to
aid the detective in solving the mystery. The detective is able to observe the ordinary object and

Holmes explains his idea of the human memory as a room with limited storage capacity. This
relates to Holmes crafting of his skill and ability to be specialised in knowledge relevant to his
work while being unknowledgeable about unrelated topics. Holmes presents an image of the
human mind as an open canvas that does not simply absorb information, but you must actively
choose what information to remember. Since the amount of information is limited, a person
should according to Holmes only select the information which pertains to their profession. The
passage identifies a person s ability to craft his own mind and develop skills which will enable
him to succeed in any field, something that would have attracted to readers of the middle class and
liberals since it means that everyone has the same ability to make something of themselves. The
problem presented in the passage is with the limited amount of information, which means that in
order to be specialised in certain fields, a person lacks knowledge in other. A conflict which Holmes

The Great House, By Frank Herbert
Literature has gone through many eras, with each changing it in its own way, but it can be argued
that the era that changed literature the most was the modern era. Dune by Frank Herbert is a
science fiction novel of the modern era and fits the modernist theme to a tee. The modern era, like
any other literary era, can be categorized by the attributes that modernist literature contain. Dune,
being a member of the literary era, is riddled with such attributes. Dune is part of the modern
literary era, as shown by it following the general theme and properties of that era.
In works of the modern literary era figures of authority are often shown as untrustworthy, this
property is clearly visible in Dune. The great houses, a source of authority in the Dune universe, are
widely seen as untrustworthy and suspicious. An assassination attempt is aimed at main character
Paul Atreides. The Atreides, the great house the main character belongs to, believe it was the
Harkonnen s, another of the great houses, who planned it, showing their distrust and suspicion of
them. Duke Leto says and were Harkonnen creatures almost to a man. They have tried to take the
life of my son! (Dune, pg. 126) showing how his distrust in them causes him to question their
humanity. This shows how the great houses, Dune s form of an authority figure, are seen as not
trustworthy even by the other great houses. The great houses are not to be trusted, showing how
authority in Dune isn t always to be trusted, but

Stores immediately sold out the day the Xbox 360 came out. According to Wikipedia.org,
Microsoft was not able to supply enough systems to meet initial consumer demand in Europe or
North America. Many potential customers were not able to purchase a console at launch and
the lack of availability led to Xbox 360 bundles selling on eBay at grossly inflated prices, with
some auctions exceeding $6,000. It was reported that 40,000 units appeared on eBay during the
initial month of release, which would mean that 10% of the total supply was resold. By year s
end, Microsoft had sold 1.5 million units; including 900,000 in North America, 500,000 in Europe,
and 100,000 in Japan. Another example of this tactic being used is with the release of Nintendo s

Tactical Crime Analysis

Many people have heard of crime analyst from TV shows or movies but probably do not
comprehend what they actually do. Some people may even confuse crime analysis with CSI which
deals with forensics. In the following paragraphs, the position of crime analyst will be explained
along with the geographical information system and the three most popular crime analysis methods.
What does crime analyst do
For most law enforcement agencies, a crime analyst main objective is to provide information in

The three most prevalent crime analysis methods that are tactical, strategical, and
administrative(Wyckoff, 2014). Tactical crime analysis incorporates information analyzed for the
purpose of short term solutions(Wyckoff, 2014). Tactical crime analysis information is usually
kept internal and produced on a daily basis(Wyckoff, 2014). Moreover, tactical crime analysis aids
in the development of patrol and investigation practices along with deployment of
resources(Wyckoff, 2014). Most of the data used for tactical crime analysis devises from police
reports(Wyckoff, 2014). Some examples of tactical crime analysis are repeated incident analysis,
crime pattern analysis, and linking known offenders to prior crimes(Wyckoff, 2014). Another
type of crime analysis is strategic which data is analyzed for the purpose of creating and
evaluating of long term strategies, policies, and prevention techniques(Wyckoff, 2014). Strategic
crime analysis is usually conducted slowly and at a deliberate pace(Wyckoff, 2014). The process
of strategic crime analysis begins with police reports by is heavily influenced by outside sources
of information which can be produced by quantitative or qualitative methods(Wyckoff, 2014).
Some examples of strategic crime analysis are trend analysis, hot spot analysis, and problem
analysis(Wyckoff, 2014). Lastly, there is administrative crime analysis which deals with
management needs(Wyckoff, 2014). This crime analysis approach is very broad where actions are
taken either regularly or upon request(Wyckoff, 2014). Analyzing information to develop patrol
staffing, districting and re districting, cost benefits, and resource deployment for special occasions
are some examples of the administrative crime analysis approach(Wyckoff,

Hammerstein was entitled Oklahoma! in 1943. They began writing together under the mentors
of the Theatre Guild. They were assigned to make a musical out of the Guilds play Green Grow
the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs. They were making on the score for what would become Oklahoma!.
Rodgers had a bold business notion. He told Hammerstein that it would be foolish if they did not

works and those of others for decades to come. This musical opened at St. James Theatre and ran
for 2,212 performances. The duo wanted to collaborate on another piece. They knew that anything
they created next would be compared to Oklahoma!, and most likely be unfavorable. They reached
out to MolnГЎr to seek the rights to Liliom. MolnГЎr had refused permission for the work to be

success of their first two musicals, they released their the most unpopular

Real Estate Easement Essay
In previous articles, we ve discussed easements or right of ways and how they are used. Generally
speaking, an easement or right of way grants one person or entity the right to use another person or
entity s property. As is obvious, this can come with a number of complications; particularly if the
situation is approached without the necessary information and knowledge regarding how to handle
the situation. So previous articles about how to handle an easement already in place are important,
but that s not the only important discussion when it comes to easements in southern California real
estate. What do you do when you need to create an easement?

Easement by Necessity Through Court Order In some instances, the court can designate an
easement out of necessity. For instance, if a piece of property exists that has no access to the public
roadway because it is surrounded by properties owned by others, they must be allowed to exit/enter
their own property.
3. A Deed Conveying Property Designating an Easement This often occurs when a landowner
wants to sell a portion of a larger piece of land. For instance, a land owner could sell the back 20
acres of their 50 acre piece of land. In order for the new owner to access public roadways from their
land, an easement would be created in the deed and a portion of the front acreage (still held by the
original owner) would be designated to be used for access.
4. Through Condemnation for the Public Good Local, state or federal government can condemn a
property or a portion of a property under eminent domain or order to utilize the land for a public
project as long as it is deemed as for the public good. In this instance, the current owner of the
land will often have dissenting views as to what is actually for the public good. In many cases, this
type of easement could occur in order for the completion of new highways,

The 2012 Crash Of Convair N153jr Essay
The 2012 crash of Convair N153JR is a text book example of how human error and the absence
of crew resource management can result in the unnecessary loss of life. This accident involves a
transport company named Fresh Air Inc. that transported cargo between the Caribbean islands
using vintage 1953 Convair aircraft. The co owner of the company, who was also the primary
pilot, established and nurtured an environment of relaxed rules and desultory aviation operations.
The primary pilot consistently flew the Convair aircraft outside its operational parameters by
disabling key aircraft systems needed for safe operations. Additionally, the captain filled Fresh Air
with incompetent personnel that could not maintain safe and airworthy operations. To further
exacerbate an already dangerous situation, assigned Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
inspectors were derelict in their duties and performed only superficial inspections on the
company. Numerous and serious violations were overlooked by the inspectors and this removed
the last remaining barrier for accident prevention. The captain s insouciant approach to flying and
company operations coupled with inept FAA oversight directly led to the crash of Convair
N153JR. Accident Overview On March 15th 2012 at 7:35 a.m. Atlantic Standard Time (AST), a
Convair 440 38 aircraft, identification number N153JR, lifted off from runway 10 at Luis MuГ±oz

Engineering Skills Gap At The Manufacturing Sector
Abstract
This report looks into what the future may look like for the manufacturing sector as well as
engineering in Wales. The future looks potentially very good, with many predictions of growth in
the manufacturing sector, with a possible ВЈ27 billion more each year from 2022, for the UK in
general, drawing more companies in and creating many more jobs in the process. However, the
main obstacle is an engineering skills gap, with many more engineers required to fill the vacancies
and replace the aging workforce, than Wales is currently producing. There are a number of
programs to try and increase the number of children studying STEM subjects and funding to create
more engineering apprenticeships. While the 2022 target is within reach a lot more work is needed
to produce the required number of engineers to make the growth possible.
Introduction
The manufacturing industry is comprised of businesses that manufacture and process products from
raw materials or commodities. It includes a vast range of sectors such as food, chemicals,
automotive, computer equipment and electronics. In most developed countries manufacturing takes
up a significant part of the economy.
This report will look at the current situation of the manufacturing sector as well as engineering in
Wales, and look into what the future may be like, as well as what is being done to achieve it.
Manufacturing and Engineering Today
Wales has always relied very heavily on the manufacturing sector,

Paplona Controversy
As the Muslim invasion quickly spread, it reached Pamplona in the Basque Country, submitting
the city to its rule in 716. The Pamplonians, however, did not take to their new rulers, and in 740
expelled their Arab governor and his garrison. This independence would last very little time, but it
was the precursor of what was to come; in 799, the inhabitants of Pamplona successfully revolted
from their Banu Qasi rulers under the leadership of Velasco. Again, this autonomy was short lived,
as in 802 the city was taken by the emir of CГіrdoba, Hisham I. Pamplona would, however, be
permanently freed from the yoke of Islamwhen the Franks under Charlemagne captured the city in
806. Pamplona finally became fully sovereign and independent in the year of 824 when they
rebelled against the Franks under the leadership of IГ±igo Aritza, thoroughly defeating them at the
pass of Roncesvalles. With this, the Kingdom of Pamplona was born. Until the fall of the Banu
Qasi in 907, the Kings of Pamplona often intermarried with the Banu Qasi in order to maintain
alliances that helped preserve the safety of the kingdom. During this time period, the Kingdom of
Pamplona expanded greatly, taking in the former Frankish county of Aragon in 834 through
marriage. In 925, The kingdom stretched even further in 925,... Show more content on

killed in battle against his brother, Ferdinand I of Castilla; over the next century Pamplona and its

American History X Vs Gran Torino
At some point in their life nearly every single American has witnessed or been a part of any
degree of racism. While most people hide in the shadows while trying to ignore racism and its
harmful effects, there are a few people, like Tony Kaye, who are courageous and bold enough
challenge the norm and speak out and stand up for those who are in pain. In 1998 Tony Kaye
directed American History X, a movie that directly shows the impacts that racismhas on everyone,
no matter what side of it you are on. Before reading this online review I would expect my adult
readers to understand little to nothing about the background information about American History X.

American History X is most easily comparable to the 2008 movie Gran Torino, directed by and
starring Clint Eastwood. Both movies explore the meanings of racism and that by showing just a
moment of compassion, our perception of others changes dramatically. Each movie includes
numerous amounts nudity, sexual situations, with an even greater amount of profanity.
According to one count, the final cut of American History X includes 205 uses of the F word, or
about one use every 35 seconds (Susman) while Gran Torino also uses foul language nearly 126
times (Asay). In American History X, Gran Tornio, and The Incredible Hulk, the view has a love
hate relationship with each of the main characters. Each leading role portrays both the hero and
villain of the movie, in all three examples the viewer grows to admire the hero even though they
still hate the villain the main character sporadically becomes, but maybe this is why a majority of
people respect and appreciate these characters.
While many critics admire Tony Kaye s boldness, others believe that American History X was
not effective and has gone too far in trying to teach a lesson in racism. Angeliki Coconi believes
that while offering this valuable American History lesson on screen, a number of racist crimes are
committed, a series of racist remarks are made and plenty of disturbing narrow mindedness
becomes evident, in other words the movie was far too severe. Others also believe that the film is
much too violent and the sexual content is unnecessary and distracting and does not add to the

/Demand Diagram for Changes in Market for Live Rock Concerts (1998 2008):
5B. Economists use cross elasticity of demand to determine whether two products are substitutes
or complements. The cross elasticity of demand measures how quantity demanded of one good
(albums) responds to a change in the price for another good (live concert tickets). For example,
between 1998 and 2008, sales of albums were down 45%, but over the same period, concert ticket
sales revenues more than doubled to $4.2 billion, despite rising rises. During this same time period,

Free albums also encourage consumers to sample an artist s music. In contrast, there are few, if
any, alternatives to a live performance listening to an album is not considered a substitute for a live
concert. Additionally, most artists are unique and cannot be easily substituted by a different artist.
Another factor to consider is resources (cash) people who buy less albums have more cash to
purchase a contract ticket.
6A. Economic profit equals net earnings, in the accountant s sense, minus the opportunity costs of
capital and any other inputs supplied by the firm s owners. Bob and Jane s economic profit is
different from their accounting profit. Accounting Profit = Total Revenues Total Costs = $8.0 mil
$7.4 mil = $.6 mil ($600,000). However, Economic profit = Accounting Profit ($600,000)
Opportunity Costs ($360,000) = $240,000. As also discussed in 6B, opportunity costs here include
the wages they forfeit to run this business ($300,000),
PLUS a normal rate of return on the $600,000 paid up front for advertising (600,000*(.10)) or
$60,000.
6B. A fixed cost is the cost of an input whose quantity does not rise when output goes up, one that
the firm requires to produce any output at all. The total cost of such indivisible inputs does not
change when the output changes. Any other cost of the firm s operation is called a variable cost.

The One-And-Done Rule
The first reason why the one and done rule should be eliminated is because players who leave after
one year of college do not have a secure future without a college degree. A college degree is a very
important part of having a successful career, and although an NBA player already has a job, the
average NBA career only lasts only 4.8 years ( Athlete ). Due to the fact that an NBA career is
usually short, it is important to finish college and have a degree in case a player s career is
unexpectedly ended because of injury. An example of a player who left college after one year was
Greg Oden. Oden attended Ohio State University for one year before declaring for the 2007 NBA
draft. Oden was selected with the first overall pick, but his career has not turned out like many
expected it to due to injury. His career is now at the lowest point it has ever been, and he is now at
risk of his career being over without having earned a degree (Wallace).... Show more content on

One of the main concerns with a young player is their ability to handle money. Players who
come out of college are given huge paychecks as soon as they are drafted, and this is a big
change from college where players are not paid an annual salary. It is very important that young
NBA players are responsible with their money so it will last after their career is over. During his
rookie season, former one and done player Julius Randle bought a $78,000 Porshe Panamera,
which came out of Randle s rookie salary (Hansford). This purchase showed that Randle might not
be mature enough to handle his salary, and that he needs better spending habits if he wants to be
financially secure. Young players not being able to handle the money given to them is a sign of
immaturity that supports that the one and done rule is not helpful to players

Hmong People Movie
Walt was described as a stereotypically racist old man from the beginning of the movie. Walt
used the bad word for everyone around him, whether it is his son or grandchild. He lived alone
in an old neighborhood full of immigrant and refugees. He still holds many prejudices toward the
Asian people because of the experiences he had during the Korean War. From the movie, I can see
that the Korean War also shaped the racial belief of Walt. So this also led to his negative attitude
toward Hmong peoplein his neighborhood even though he knew nothing about them. He used the
racial slur when he first met Thao and slammed the door in Thao s face. Another example is
when he called the Hmong people Chinks , an offensive word to call Chinese. When Sue invited
him to her house BBQ party, he used some racial slurs. He called the Hmong people fish head

There is a transformation in Walt s belief. Besides the experiences in Korean War, another reason
that leads to his negative attitude toward Hmong people is the language barrier and differences
in culture. He had opportunities to understand more about the tradition of the Hmong people
when Sue invited him to the party at her house. Sue also explained the negative reactions of the
Hmong people with Walt. As Sue said, Hmong people consider looking someone in the eye to be
very rude, and they tend to grin or smile when they are yelled at, this is because they are insecure,
not because they are disrespecting the admonisher. And Walt appeared to accept Sue s
explanation. As he gets closer to the Lor family, his use of racial slurs also changed from the time,
the way he used it could not be seen as an insult

Essay on Marijuana
Marijuana
Marijuana is a drug that has been used for thousands of years. Marijuana was used in ancient
China, as far back as 5000 B.C. The Incan s and Mayan s used marijuana in religious ceremonies.
Marijuana also has roots in this country. The Indians of the plains used marijuana in their peace
pipes as a sign of friendship and peace. After prohibition there was a sharp rise in the use of this
drug in America, but after prohibition was repealed the use went down. In the 1920 s and 30 s the
use of marijuana was primarily by the minorities. In the 1930 s it was common belief that
minorities where inhumane and violent, and people believed that marijuana was part of the cause.
Then in 1937 marijuana was declared illegal. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marijuana has a positive effect on patients with certain diseases. AIDS victims are sometimes
prescribed marijuana to help increase their appetite. Victims of AIDS do not want to eat and thus

the nutrients they need. Marijuana also helps to increase the appetite in cancer patients. People who
get glaucoma s also use marijuana. It helps to ease the pain for many glaucoma patients. Marijuana
is very helpful to these people. This is just one example of why marijuana prohibition should be
reconsidered. When comparing tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana, there is evidence that marijuana
has the least addictive power. During the Nixon administration, the government concluded that
marijuana did not posses any physically addictive traits. The University of California did a study on
the power of heroin, cocaine, nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, and marijuana in terms of power to induce
psychological dependence. Nicotine was first, marijuana last. Marijuana was deemed least likely to
produce signs of withdrawal upon quitting, and last in terms of producing a physical tolerance to
the drug. Marijuana is less addictive than two legal drugs in this country. This does not make sense,
and so prohibition should be reconsidered. The United States government spends too much money
each year on prohibition of marijuana. The

Understanding Of Free Will And God s Omniscience
Great Theologian Paper
Consolations of Philosophy
Prompt: Analyze Boethius s understanding of free will and God s omniscience as found in the
Consolation of Philosophy. (4 6 Pages)
The idea of human will has taken over Christians for centuries. Boethius the theologian offers two
different ideas in the book Consolations of Philosophy, the understanding of divine foreknowledge
and free will. Boethius explains There seems to be a hopeless conflict between divine
foreknowledge of all things and freedom of human will. For if God sees everything in advance and
cannot be deceived in any way, whatever his providence foresees will happen, must happen.
Therefor, if God foreknows eternally not only all the acts of men, but also their plans and wishes,
there cannot be freedom of will, nothing whatever can be done or even desired without its being
known beforehand by the infallible Providence of God. (Baird, Philosophic Classics, Consolations
of Philosophy 126.)
Others have concluded that omniscience and human free will are exclusive. All actions are known
by God beforehand. Boethius however, refuses to accept that conclusion. He believes that freewill
absolutely is essential to moral activity and responsibility. There is a freewill...and no rational
nature can exist which does not have it. For any being, which by its nature has the use of reason,
must also have the power of judgment by which it can make decision and, by its own resources,
distinguish between things which should be

  • 2. Why Is It Hard To Engage In A Social Movement Q 1: Those more likely to engage in a social movement are, the relatively well off, well educated, and active (Meyer 62). Furthermore, movements for collective action, tend to be full of people from the middle class and above (63). In other words, the type of people who are the easiest to mobilize for collective action in a social movementare college educated individuals who are not living paycheck to paycheck. Individuals who are less likely to participate are those without biographical availability , a term coined by Doug McAdam to mean the absence of responsibilities in terms of financial or emotional support. A lack of availability will make these individuals the hardest to mobilize when compared to your average college student. Q 2: Utilizing various incentives is useful when trying to increase mobilization for collective action. Meyer mentions three kinds of incentives that can be employed: purposive, material, and solidary. Purposive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One good example of this is the National Rifle Association (NRA), which provides various services such as gun safety classes and a monthly magazine while donating money to political candidates in order to generate more funding and new membership. Other ways that SMOs support themselves include the use of email capture and Internet connections such as Moveon.org. • 3. Factors That Consider Implicit Feedback May Be Classified... 2.3 Related Study Personalization strategies that consider implicit feedback may be classified into two main categories: document based and concept based. Document based strategies consider discovering user document preferences from the clickthrough information, to find out a ranking operator that optimizes the user s browsing and clicking preferences on the retrieved documents. Joachims [2002] initially proposed extracting user clicking preferences from the clickthrough information by assuming that a user would scan the search result list from top to bottom. the click preferences are then utilized by a ranking SVM algorithmic rule [Joachims 2002] to find out a ranker that most closely fits the user s preferences. Tan et al. [2004] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Li, Kitsuregawa [2007] also proposed a similar adaptive approach based on user behaviors. Instead of using ODP as the taxonomy, Google Directory3 is used as the predefined taxonomy to construct user profiles. In Li et al. [2007], independent models for long term and short term user preferences are proposed to compose the user profiles. The long term preferences are captured by using Google Directory, while the short term preferences are determined from the user s document preferences (the most frequently browsed documents). More recently, Xu et al. [2007] proposed naturally separating client intrigued subjects from the client s close to home archives (e.g. skimming histories and messages). The extricated points are then sorted out into a progressive client profile (just called HUP in consequent dialog), which is to rank the indexed lists as per the client s topical needs. Chuang and Chien [2004] proposed to cluster and organize users queries into a hierarchical structure of topic classes. A Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering (HAC) [25] algorithm is first employed to construct a binary tree cluster hierarchy. The binary tree hierarchy is then partitioned in order to create subhierarchies forming a multiway tree cluster hierarchy like the hierarchical organization of Yahoo [6] and DMOZ [3]. Baeza Yates et al. [2003] proposed a query clustering method that groups similar queries according to their semantics. The method creates a vector representation Q for a query q, ... • 4. Internal Medicine Internist Personal Statement It was 2011 when the revolution burst out. I was studying for my pharmacology exam when I saw on TV that people were getting injured and shot. There were a lot of field hospitals and volunteering doctors that I knew. I wanted to go there and assist the injured, but I knew that my lack of medical training would not allow me to do that. Since then I have been thinking of the best medical field to help and be useful in the future. Internists are who people think of when they think of a doctor and after having the opportunity to rotate through different specialties during my internship, I realized that internal medicineexemplifies what I look upon to be, a compassionate, respected, and insightful physician. When Internists go to work, they do not know what to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the intellectual challenge every day and the opportunity to provide continuous care for the patients that make internal medicine extremely appealing to me. I believe that with the knowledge that internal medicine residency would provide me with; I could address the patient s emotional needs as well as their medical needs. I have been inspired by my attending during my rotations. I rotated for two months with him, during which I realized that in spite of the limited time he had, he always took the time to explain and give support to his patients. He had to manage inpatients as well as ICU patients simultaneously, but he always knew how to manage the patients and support their families in addition to teaching us. All the patients respected him and knew they were in safe hands with him. This was the doctor I would like to follow in footsteps, a doctor who is sensible, well informed and skilled, thorough but efficient, and acting as a humane ally in a place where there is a lot of ... Acacia Company is a major producer of graphic plotters, renowned for top quality and innovative products. The newest unit in the product line is the 440A, a relatively inexpensive eight pen, A size (8ВЅ x 11 ) plotter, designed for use with personal computers. The PC cell contains state of the art robotics equipment requiring little human intervention. The equipment is designed to select the component parts while still packaged, load its feeder bins, and automatically insert the components into PC boards based on a computerized XY insertion program. There is also a JIT stockroom facility near the production areas, and a separate MRP system. Parts purchased for the 440A must meet special JIT requirements. Suppliers are requested to use bar coded labels to identify their shipments for optical wanding into inventory, and the automatic equipment requires specially designed packaging tubes and parts for taping for autoinsertion of PC components. Furthermore, the delivery of most JIT parts must be weekly (instead of usual monthly delivery), in order to maintain a minimum of inventory in the stockroom. Deliveries must be highly reliable to prevent stockouts and line shutdowns. The parts that Carl is considering resourcing are four integrated circuits (ICs), seven diodes, and three transistors. These parts are all low cost, industry standard parts, with the exception of five of the diodes, which are manufactured by only one company, Monitor Inc. Monitor is the industry leader in diodes and transistors and supplies Acacia with quality parts at competitive prices for other plotters. There are lots of factors for this reason, including, more responsibilities, more independence, and one of the big ones, getting a drivers licenses. The age limits for driving have been debated on for such a long time now. The age limit for drivingvaries according to what country you re living in. In my opinion, the driving age in the United States should not be raised to age 18 because I believe that age has nothing to do with responsibility, getting to and from school and curricular activities can be hard without your own transportation, and not all families have a person eligible to drive. • 7. Abuse Power In The Crucible Another lesson I learned from reading The Crucible, is to not abuse power. Abusing power is using power to an advantage in a bad way. Good leaders use their power to influence people in a positive way, while bad leaders use their power mainly for personal benefits. In the play, many of the characters with power abused it. They took complete control of situations influencing other characters to do bad things. One character from the book that abuses his power is Judge Danforth. Danforth ran all the trials for the witches , and was completely unfair. He made it basically impossible for an accused witch to be innocent. He also didn t allow suspects to have lawyers or anyone give information that disagreed with him. He considered different opinions as contempt of court . When Mr. Nurse was clashing with Danforth over the issue, Danforth said, do you know who I am, Mr. Nurse? (Act lll, Scene l) This shows that Danforth has the cocky mindset that he is above everyone. Good leaders should be able to listen to critics. Danforth believed that everyone accused was a witch; so he didn t even bother giving them a fair chance. Many people died under his signature. He used his power to contribute to the destruction of the town and many lives. Another example from the book deals with the ringleader of the group of girls caught in the woods; Abigail Williams. Abigail happened to be the leader of the group, and was completely evil. Abigail was able to influence a whole group of girls to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will point out a few examples of good communication from the film and I will explain why the examples I discuss demonstrate characteristics of effective communication. I will use a few excerpts out of the communication chapter of our text book, Chapter 11. I will use these excerpts from Chapter 11 of our text book to explain why the examples/quotes from the film, that I have pointed out, demonstrate good communication skills. The sandwich approach tells us the correct use of praise and gives us a formula to use to make sure we give praise to our athletes in an appropriate manner. In the qoate from the film I used above, Coach Carter does not use the sandwhich approach excatly as it is modeled, but he does praise his team in an appropriate manner. A coach will be more efffective in correcting the skills and habits of any of their athletes by using the sandwich approach. The athlete will feel good about himself/herself hearing the first positive statement and this will also grab that athletes attention to the constructive critism or skill critique from the coach. The coach will leave the athlete with a positive concluding statement such as, I see you excelling in the future with this . Britain s first motorway , the 13 km Preston bypass was opened in 1958, and following this the Goverment planned to improve 6750km of road to at least dual carriageway standard to form strategic inter urban network for England. This network was marked as a national commitment, which would enhance road safety, be easily connected to all major centres of population, promote economic growth and regional development.

Homeschooling is an option for families living in isolated rural locations, living temporarily abroad, or families who travel often. This method of education is growing around the world. Homeschools use different educational methods such as: Unit Studies, All in One Curricula, Natural Learning, and Autonomous Learning. In the Unit Studies method multiple subjects are studied in relation to a single topic. The All in One Curricula is another method in which the curriculum and homework of the student are similar or identical to the curriculum at a public or private school. Natural Learning is a method where children follow knowledge based on their interest and the parents take part in their learning activities. In the Autonomous Learning method, the child is responsible for their own learning environment. Parents give different reasons for choosing to homeschool their children. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the three reasons parents chose homeschoolingwere: their concern about the school environment, to provide religious or moral instruction, and unhappiness with the curriculum available at other schools (Gaither 1). • 25. Similarities And Differences Between Antonia And The Great... Both books were about love in some way. They both focus on a character who cares very deeply for a significant woman. Gatsby was obsessed over Daisy. Jim loved Antonia. The woman they loved had difficult lives, due to the fact that women s lives were set up to be made hard. They had to marry a man of decent wealth, or do slave work. These were most women s only choices. There were no jobs other than slave work for a woman, with only a few exceptions. Antonia was stuck doing slave work for years, while Daisy was with a horrible rich man for support. With both books one main choice a woman had to make was whether they would depend on a man. Daisy made the choice yes, while Antonia at first was against this. In this world they lived in, the easiest life decision they could make would usually be to find a nice man they could fall in love with, marry, and depend on financially. This world was a man s world when it came to work, so almost every woman would want a man. If this is the life they choose to lead, then they need to maintain the perfect image that men look for. They need to live with a respectable family if doing slave work, not have any children already, not have had sex with anyone and have the information known publicly, and so on. Men, especially men of wealth, won t be attracted to a woman who contradicts any of these. Therefore, Antonia had a hard time. She was offered a job with a man who is known to sleep with his workers, or worse, but pays far more than the opposing jobs she could get. She would be putting her reputation down the drain if she accepted, but at this point in time she wasn t looking to depend on anyone. Daisy fell in love with a man of much wealth, who has regular affairs. She shows her love for him a handful of times throughout The Great Gatsby, so she wasn t involved for just the money. The money is most likely why she fell for him in the first place, and part of the reason she stays, but over time she developed a love for him. This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer and a clerk, as a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner disguise to shield her real personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent. This shows how she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality and physical disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing all about this. This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to not have them fooled by Viola s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as Viola plays a major part in the story and without her the play would have a lot less comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her actions, for example there would have been no love triangle without her and all the other characters would not have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to create amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem ignorant and ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge of Viola s true identity. The 2012 Crash Of Convair N153jr Essay The 2012 crash of Convair N153JR is a text book example of how human error and the absence of crew resource management can result in the unnecessary loss of life. This accident involves a transport company named Fresh Air Inc. that transported cargo between the Caribbean islands using vintage 1953 Convair aircraft. The co owner of the company, who was also the primary pilot, established and nurtured an environment of relaxed rules and desultory aviation operations. The primary pilot consistently flew the Convair aircraft outside its operational parameters by disabling key aircraft systems needed for safe operations. Additionally, the captain filled Fresh Air with incompetent personnel that could not maintain safe and airworthy operations. To further exacerbate an already dangerous situation, assigned Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspectors were derelict in their duties and performed only superficial inspections on the company. Numerous and serious violations were overlooked by the inspectors and this removed the last remaining barrier for accident prevention. The captain s insouciant approach to flying and company operations coupled with inept FAA oversight directly led to the crash of Convair N153JR. So this also led to his negative attitude toward Hmong peoplein his neighborhood even though he knew nothing about them. He used the racial slur when he first met Thao and slammed the door in Thao s face. Another example is when he called the Hmong people Chinks , an offensive word to call Chinese. When Sue invited him to her house BBQ party, he used some racial slurs. He called the Hmong people fish head when they looking at him after he touched a Hmong girl on the head.... Besides the experiences in Korean War, another reason that leads to his negative attitude toward Hmong people is the language barrier and differences in culture. He had opportunities to understand more about the tradition of the Hmong people when Sue invited him to the party at her house. Sue also explained the negative reactions of the Hmong people with Walt. As Sue said, Hmong people consider looking someone in the eye to be very rude, and they tend to grin or smile when they are yelled at, this is because they are insecure, not because they are disrespecting the admonisher. And Walt appeared to accept Sue s explanation. As he gets closer to the Lor family, his use of racial slurs also changed from the time, the way he used it could not be seen as an insult ... The Incan s and Mayan s used marijuana in religious ceremonies. Marijuana also has roots in this country. The Indians of the plains used marijuana in their peace pipes as a sign of friendship and peace. After prohibition there was a sharp rise in the use of this drug in America, but after prohibition was repealed the use went down. In the 1920 s and 30 s the use of marijuana was primarily by the minorities. Victims of AIDS do not want to eat and thus they do not get the nutrients they need. Marijuana helps them to eat, and thus enabling them to get the nutrients they need. Marijuana also helps to increase the appetite in cancer patients. People who get glaucoma s also use marijuana. It helps to ease the pain for many glaucoma patients. Marijuana is very helpful to these people. This is just one example of why marijuana prohibition should be reconsidered. When comparing tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana, there is evidence that marijuana has the least addictive power. During the Nixon administration, the government concluded that marijuana did not posses any physically addictive traits. The University of California did a study on the power of heroin, cocaine, nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, and marijuana in terms of power to induce psychological dependence. Nicotine was first, marijuana last. Marijuana was deemed least likely to produce signs of withdrawal upon quitting, and last in terms of producing a physical tolerance to the drug. Marijuana is less addictive than two legal drugs in this country. This does not make sense, and so prohibition should be reconsidered. The United States government spends too much money each year on prohibition of marijuana. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Understanding Of Free Will And God s Omniscience Great Theologian Paper Consolations of Philosophy Prompt: Analyze Boethius s understanding of free will and God s omniscience as found in the Consolation of Philosophy. (4 6 Pages) The idea of human will has taken over Christians for centuries. Boethius the theologian offers two different ideas in the book Consolations of Philosophy, the understanding of divine foreknowledge and free will. Boethius explains There seems to be a hopeless conflict between divine foreknowledge of all things and freedom of human will. For if God sees everything in advance and cannot be deceived in any way, whatever his providence foresees will happen, must happen. Therefor, if God foreknows eternally not only all the acts of men, but also their plans and wishes, there cannot be freedom of will, nothing whatever can be done or even desired without its being known beforehand by the infallible Providence of God. (Baird, Philosophic Classics, Consolations of Philosophy 126.) Others have concluded that omniscience and human free will are exclusive. All actions are known by God beforehand. Boethius however, refuses to accept that conclusion. He believes that freewill absolutely is essential to moral activity and responsibility. There is a freewill...and no rational nature can exist which does not have it. For any being, which by its nature has the use of reason, must also have the power of judgment by which it can make decision and, by its own resources, distinguish between things which should be ...
