The Influence Of Beliefs In The Canterbury Tales
Barna surveyed 718 self identified Christians from a variety of denominations to find what extent their
actions and attitudes line up with Jesus s. Researchers found only 1 in 7 Christians manages to hold
Christ like beliefs and also act in Christ like ways (Steffan). Chaucer depicts a group of twenty nine
diverse travelers on a pilgrimage to Canterbury to visit the grave of St. Thomas a Becket. Many of the
religious figures from the tales fail to measure up to the actions and attitudes of Christ as well. It is
ironic because their attitudes consist of helping people and honesty but their actions show a
completely different image. In The Canterbury Tales, the Nun, the Monk, and the Pardoner are rich,
which is ironic because they take a vow of poverty. Chaucer manifests the Nun s true character
through her actions and appearance. One way he shows her true character is through her clothing. The
text reads, She wore a coral trinket on her arm, a set of beads, the gaudies tricked in green (l. 156
157). The Nun wore expensive jewelry and clothing which suggests she believes more in worldliness
instead of poverty. She should not have money to afford her expensive clothing and jewelry because
she took a vow of poverty. The vow of poverty dedicated her life to the church and she goes against
the vow by being rich. Another way Chaucer shows the Nun s true character is through her emotions.
For example, She used to weep if she but saw a mouse caught in a trap, if it were dead

Abstract Expressionism Essay
abstract expressionism It was a full 170 years after Americans had their political revolution that they
won an aesthetic revolution. American art to get rid of its inhibiting mechanisms provincialism, over
dependence on European sources, and an indifferent public and liberate itself into a quality and
expressive force equal to, or exceeding that of art produced anywhere within the period. Few would
argue that the painting and sculpture that emerged from the so called New York School in the mid
1940s was the foremost artistic phenomenon of its time and was labeled as the Abstract Expressionist
movement. Abstract expressionism was a reaction to social realism, surrealism, and primitive art in the
1940s; this is a turning point in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sacred signs overlaid over unconfined surfaces were appealing because the artist was not restricted by
a framing edge. They also admired the scale of cave paintings. They were very big and encouraged
their followers to paint big. The most significant impact of primitive art was the cave paintings
admirable freedom, which influenced the free, unbound style in which the abstract expressionists
painted. The revolt of fascism and realism is freedom, which is articulated in the free form style of the
Abstract Expressionist.
Americans for generations had sought to achieve their own artistic maturity and had largely failed,
either by inadequate assimilation of European models or by America s own provincialism. The
Abstract Expressionist Movement was so influential because it was the first time that American artists
were doing something new and different from Europe. American Artists for the first time had an
advantage over Europe, which virtually transferred the center of the art world from Paris to New York.
Ironically, it was the paralyzing poverty of the Great Depression that gave younger American artists
their first advantage. Beginning in 1935, with the Federal Art Project organized under the Works
Progress Administration, artists could earn a living as artists and do so free to create in whatever
manner they might choose. They could even gravitate to New York, traditionally America s safe haven
for the revolutionary, and there band together as a beleaguered

Cyber Threats And The Cyber Threat
In recent years information security and privacy have come to be topics of high importance with rapid
technological advancements. Technology has provided vast areas of opportunities, but these have also
brought along unprecedented threats. Since the Morris worm in the 1980 s cyber threat has grown
from isolated incidents to high profile attacks on major government and private organizations. Cyber
threats can be classified broadly into three distinct areas ï‚· Cyber crime intentional attacks carried out
by individuals or groups of individuals with specific objectives of acquiring money, data or causing
disruption. ï‚· Cyber war an attack conducted by a nation against another nation with the objective to
cause disruption or obtain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two popular and large scale self propagating worms in 2001 are Code Red and NIMDA. The
motivation for the attackers of both these worms were to gain notoriety and fame. Code Red exploited
buffer overflow vulnerability in the IIS server of Microsoft. NIMDA on the other hand used multiple
propagation techniques such as email, network sharing, exploiting directory traversal vulnerabilities of
Microsoft IIS server. These widespread attacks led to the adoption of Intrusion detection systems. 3.
Monetary benefit The third phase began around 2004 with the social engineering technique of
phishing. The attacks attempted the victims to reveal passwords, identity information and payment
card details which would then be used to extract money. 4. Threat and destruction The phase began in
2007/08 with the distributed denial of service attacks launched against Georgia and Estonia. The
significant attack in this phase was in 2010 with the Stuxnet, the first malware that was able to
compromise industrial control systems. This was significant because it showed that cyber threats were
now not limited to servers, software, data and continuity but affected safety as well. Around this same
time started the Advanced Persistent Threats. 5. Future Cyber attacks have become increasingly
sophisticated and varied targeting various high profile multinational companies. The target until now
has been financial information and other critical

Who Is The Protagonist In Fight Club
Fight Club (1999) Fight Club is a drama directed by David Fincher, based on the Chuck Palahniuk
novel of the same name. It follows an insomniac (Edward Norton), who becomes discontented with
his white collar job and forms an underground fight club with the eccentric Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt).
(Figure 3.1) Tyler spliced frames in Fight Club, this technique foreshadows Tyler s habit of splicing
explicit imagery into family films. Throughout the opening twenty to thirty minutes of the film, until
his full introduction, Tyler is implanted in single frames at moments where he would reflect what the
Narrator would want to become (fig 3.1) such as at the self help groups the Narrator occupies his time
with due to his insomnia, showing that the Narrator is still formulating the personality. This technique
is alluded to during Tyler s montage showing his night jobs, where he cuts single frames of
pornographic movies into family movies. (Figure 3.2) Narrator with Tyler in the background
Throughout the entire film, Tyler is presented in scenes doing whatever the Narrator would rather be
doing, such as when the Narrator is on the phone to Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), Tyler is shown
playing with nun chucks in the background. This feeds into the fact that Tyler is the idealised, more
laid back version of the Narrator. Fincher shows the spilt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Beowulf Heroic Qualities
Beowulf, the hero of the epic Beowulf, was a great king and leader, from youth to his declining years.
He displays his heroism in three separate conflicts, which take place in two different phases of his life.
Despite these challenging tasks, Beowulf exhibits unique heroic qualities throughout his youth and
declining years that make him a great king and leader of the Geats. Since his youth as a great warrior
lasts so long, the epic portrays Beowulf in three different feats of strength and courage. His first feat
was in his swimming match with Breca. Unferth, jealous of Beowulf s popularity with his fellow
Danes, brings up Beowulf s loss in a swimming match to Breca. Unferth states that Beowulf will face
defeat against Grendel once again as no one has ever outlasted an entire night against Grendel. (37)
Beowulf replies that he lost the swimming match against Breca because he was interrupted by the sea
beasts. He was swimming shoulder to shoulder... for five nights (37) with Breca but landed on the
coast of Finland later than Breca because he had to slay nine sea monsters when he got pulled down.
He mocks Unferth afterwards, saying that Unferth or Breca would both be unable to protect
themselves against the sea monsters. Beowulf s second great feat was mortally wounding Grendel.
The Danes were scared from the terror and murder that Grendel had inflicted on them. Beowulf, with
a confident persona, waits and grabs Grendel harder than anything he had ever encountered in any

A Social Media Marketing Plan
Marketing has evolved and grown tremendously throughout the years. If you have a Facebook or
instagram page you have seen some sort of marketing promotion or ad that a local business is offering
to draw in customers or a following. For instance Z Burger, a burger joint in the DC area offered a
promotion that went viral through Facebook offering $2 burgers and $4 veggie burgers for the entire
day of last Tuesday at their Columbia Heights location. I attended myself thinking it was going to be
ridiculously crowded but I beat the rush and the staff created a system that provided a speedy service
and less wait time to order and receive your food.
That event was so popular through Facebook that they are offering a second location and if ... Show

To launch social media marketing campaigns, all businesses need to do is sign up for free with each
social network they want to use. Once registered, businesses can create individual profiles for their
business and start posting content, such as industry trends, company news and promotional
information right away. This phenomenon has only developed within the last decade, thus social
media research has largely focused on (1) defining what it is through the explanation of new
terminology and concepts that makeup its foundations, and (2) exploring the impact of a company s
integration of social media on consumer behavior. This paper begins with an explanation of
terminology that defines social media marketing, followed by a discussion of the four main themes
found within current research studies: Virtual Brand Communities, Consumers Attitudes and Motives,
User Generated Content, and Viral Advertising.
Although social media marketing is a well researched topic, it has only been studied through
experimental and theoretical research; studies never precisely describe the benefits retailers gain from
this marketing tactic. In reviewing the rich plethora of multi disciplinary literature, it is has become
clear that studies are focusing on describing what social media marketing is as well as examining what
factors affect consumer behavior relative to social networking. Despite the initial progress made by
researchers, development in this area of

Anne Bradstreet s Poetry In The 19th Century
Poets from the nineteenth century vary widely in subject, tone, and form. To remark that poets prior to
1865 are all the same is short sighted, as it denies the recurring themes and unique individual styles of
the poets. Readers can differentiate poets such as Anne Bradstreet, Phillis Wheatley, Edgar Allan Poe,
Walt Whitman, and Emily Dickinson through the poetic devices that they use and the recurring themes
or interests they have.
To begin, poets in the nineteenth century differ in whether they were intended to be published and if
they were accompanied with an authenticating document. An example of a poet whose work is mostly
based on personal experiences and feelings is Anne Bradstreet. Bradstreet s poems tend to focus on
her relationship with her husband ( A Letter to her Husband ), her children ( Before the Birth of One of
her Children ), and her faith ( Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House ). The
recurring themes that Bradstreet explores in her poetry center on ... Show more content on

Unlike Bradstreet, Wheatley s poems are a reflection on the Great Awakening revival that use colorful,
emotional language to emphasize the personal religious commitment as a sensory experience.
Wheatley s poetic voice is heavily inspired by sermons, which is most noticeable in her poem, To the
University of Cambridge.
Edgar Allen Poe s poetry is wildly different to both Wheatley s and Bradstreet s poetry. Poe s poems
have recurring elements of the Gothic and the supernatural. The Gothic and supernatural are
prominent in both the setting and the tone of Poe s poems. Poe tends to use repetition to signal the
importance of the line or word, such as nevermore, to create the unity of effect. The repetition of
nevermore also alludes to the speaker being haunted over the loss of his beloved Lenore and
demonstrates the decay of the speaker s sanity, which is elevated by the speaker s grief and

Lance Armstrong admitting to using performance enhancing drugs in his sport of cycling. It outlines
key concepts of the what he said in the Oprah interview. It explores how he took testosterone and

The article has increased my knowledge on how EPO, testosterone and human growth hormones are
the most commonly used drugs in cycling. It explored how the performance level of cyclist s was so
high and this was because they were using performance enhancing drugs. I realised that the cyclist
was taking the drugs because everyone was and there was very little chance of being caught.
Armstrong admitted to using them because everyone in the field was and he believed he couldn t win
without taking them. Armstrong at the time didn t even consider it cheating. It was just something you
did if you wanted to win. Drugs in cycling lead to an environment where people weren t winning
because they had trained the hardest and had the most ability but rather an environment where they
didn t even consider taking performance enhancing drugs as cheating. The consequences and prospect
of being caught were always there, but the cyclist were willing to cheat even though they could
potentially lose everything; respect, titles and trust. The article also increased my knowledge on how
they got away with it for so long. The drug use in cycling was occurring so much over Armstrong s
time because the drug testers didn t have a way to find out whether the cyclist were

Summary Of Minorities In The Rise Of The Rocket Girls
To be treated as lesser or unworthy is a terrible thing. What happened to all men are created equal ? I
guess that only applies if you are a straight, white man. A minority is a part of a population differing
from others in some characteristics and are often subjected to different treatment. That said, minorities
were mistreated and shoved to the back of history. In Aria by Richard Rodriguez the Rodriguez family
feel what it means to be a minority in their everyday life. They re held at arm s length by the people
around them, and struggle to assimilate. In Rise of the Rocket Girls by Nathalia Holt it s not race that
sets these women behind. It is simply the fact that they are women. In both novels society is
presenting more challenges to a certain group, but that does not stop them. Even today minorities are
still at a disadvantage. That does not stop people from pursuing their goals and dreams. As a student
perseverance is needed because you cannot give up easily or you just will not make it. Aria has many
counter arguments and debates revolving around assimilation. To better visualize the meaning of
assimilation imagine having a group of blue blocks all exactly the same. You bring in a few different
colored blocks red, yellow, green ones. In order for them to fit in you paint them all blue. Isn t that
erasing part of who they are? That was a main point in why bilingual children shouldn t be forced to
learn a new language in order to learn. Supporters of bilingual

Health Care Reform For The United States
Many ways are used to measure how much Americans values life. Obviously, good health is a major
factor of being happy and satisfied with an Americans life. People also place family and friends very
high on the list of value for health care insurance. Health care has become the stress to every person s
life. Health care controls everything a person does due to the drawbacks of not having it when it is
necessary; like breaking an arm or coming down with a deathly illness. With these issues, it is said
that reforms are on their way. Health care reform will be on the agenda for future sessions of
Congress, because the economic pressures of rising health care costs on the federal government,
business, and individuals are not going to abate (King). Health care has become a pain for many
reasons. It takes up time, money, and security. Having health care in the United States is a necessity;
without this many hospitals do not admit a patient or, if done so, the patient becomes flooded with
bills for everything. But just because health care is a necessity in the United States does not mean it
comes easily. With so much that goes into health care, loads of information and research must be
gathered; to understand health care and why one must have information on health care history,
information about human rights in regards of health care, what other forms of health care are out there,
price of health care, Americans opinion on American health care, and many more items that health

The service backup is second to none with regard to spare parts availability, and customers fall in love
with their products to the point that they will spend hundreds of dollars repairing fifteen and twenty
year old equipment rather than replace it. The average time between purchases was over seven years,
which meant that repeat business was hard to come by. The business in Australia was small, successful
and profitable, with steady but unspectacular growth. By 1993, Bang Olufsen in Denmark had just
completed a radical restructure, and the company, under a new young and aggressive management
team was in the process of making a remarkable turn around from the brink of disaster. Following the
massive restructuring program, Bang Olufsen was looking for significant growth opportunities. The
main European markets were well established and it was assumed that there was limited opportunity
for double digit growth, therefore it was decided to focus on the agency run markets and push some
serious expansion into the Asian region. There had long been a belief held by Bang Olufsen Denmark
(typical of many European based companies) that a country as large as Australia needed far wider
coverage than just the main capital cities. In Denmark, a country of five million people, there were
over 100 B O dealers, in fact one in almost every town, so they could not see why at least the top 50

Analyzing The Roller Coaster Problem
Roller Coasters
The problem that I chose was the roller coaster problem. The question is, how would there be a way to
rate how amusing a roller coaster is? I picked this problem because if I were to really get involved in
the research, I would go and ride all the roller coasters myself, which sounds like a blast. While I was
either researching or riding the roller coasters, I would still have to go through some steps.
First, I would have to define the problem, which would be how would math be used to figure out a
way to rate a roller coaster. After I knew what I was looking for, I would make assumptions about
what people like to see in a roller coaster. I would assume that most people like loops, so if it had a
loop it would get a higher

Exploring the Ruin of Man in Rappaccini s Daughter
Who will redeem man from his evil tendencies and his fallen state? Nathaniel Hawthorne in
Rappaccini s Daughter delves into the nature of man and reveals that the evil imaginations and
machinations of man may eventually lead to his ruin.
Rappaccini s Daughter is a story set in the mid nineteenth century in Padua, Italy, a country well
known for its romantic stories and history. This period in time was marked by various scientific
discoveries, especially in medicine. This boom led to extensive debates on science and religion. There
was the argument of whether or not to let things happen naturally or to interfere with the processes of

Symbols are items that represent other meanings. The fountain is symbolic of knowledge and wisdom,
and the water that gushed out represents life and the spirit. This fountain is comparable to the fountain
in The House of Seven Gables that was set round with a rim of old mossy stones, and paved, in its
bed, with what appeared to be a sort of mosaic work of variously colored pebbles (Hawthorne 4). The
garden is similar to the Pyncheon garden in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The House of Seven Gables that
had blossoming flowers. The archetypal pattern of this garden recalls the Garden of Eden (Davis 6) as

sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of good and
evil..and a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden.. (Gen. 2:9 10). In the midst of the pool was a

flowering shrub which is a perverted flower of Eden bore a likeness to one particular variety of
flowers which bore a vivid scarlet blossom (Hawthorne 2) in the Pyncheon garden. The love it
symbolizes is flawed by the general imperfection found in all of Adam s descendants (Kloeckner 330).

Connecting with Nature in Rip Van Winkle, Thanatopsis, and...
Romanticism is the involvement of emotion, fantasy, and intuition in a story. It happens to be the
opposite of rationalism which involves logic, reason, and rationality in a story. There happens to be
five romantic elements to choose from. They include: dissatisfaction with city life, desire to connect
with nature, concern of individualism, nostalgia for the past, and supernatural interest. Of the six
stories we could choose from all of them have some part of romanticism in them in one way or
another. I chose to express a desire to connect with nature in Rip Van Winkle , Thanatopsis , and
Walden. Rip Van Winkle desires to leave his nagging wife, driving him into the woods revealing a

Rip Van Winkle describes multiple images that make it a story with a deep desire to connect with
nature. In the poem Thanatopsis the desire to connect with nature is expressed throughout. Unlike Rip
Van Winkle, Thanatopsis has a very deep meaning within it, not just a whimsical story. The poem
explains that we as humans should embrace death and know that we are a part of the ever cycling
earth. We have a bigger purpose. William Cullen Bryant personified nature in his poem. He made
nature woman like by calling nature her and she. To him who in the love of Nature holds Communion
with her visible forms, she speaks a various language... (171) He also expressed this beautiful
simplicity and vulnerability to nature and man. The hills rock ribbed and ancient as the sun, the vales
stretching in pensive quietness between; the venerable woods rivers that move in majesty, and the
complaining brooks that make the meadows green... (171) This poem seems to connect with nature in
a different way. It s almost like it embodies nature along with human to create a smooth transition or
meld of the two, and I think that is what creates the desire to connect with nature for the poem.
Walden expresses the desire to connect with nature differently then Rip Van Winkle , and Thanatopsis.
It may not have the whimsical story or a spiritually deeper meaning,

open enrollment though the process may change in the near future to automatic enrollment. The idea
of doing an automatic enrollment will automatically enroll each and every employee in that particular
retirement plan unless the employee chooses not to after the fact. The employee would have the option
to opt out at any point within a particular deadline which is 90 days. With the current open enrollment
plan, Riordan employees have the choice to choose just how much of his or her paycheck will
contribute to the plan and the company will equal that amount or up to a particular dollar amount. The
benefit in enrolling into the 401(k) plan is the employee s contribution is deducted before state and
federal withholdings (Apollo Group, Inc., 2013).
In order to involve workers and to promote worker engagement toward the 401(k) savings strategy,
the company has established an interaction plan. When a worker is first employed as a new hire, the

The Myers-Brig Type Indicator
INTRODUCTION Personality of an individual is closely linked with the process of job or work
performance. The relationship between personality and the level of job performance is dependent on
the environment in which he/she is working. It is important to note that job or work performance of an
individual are related to organizational success or failure. Hence performance should be aligned to
achieve organizational goals. According to various researches it is concluded that cognitive ability is a
major contributor towards employee s performance as compared to the five factor model of
personality assessment. PERSONALITY PREDICTS EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE Personality of

TRANSLATING PERSONALITY TRAITS INTO PROFESSIONAL CAREER Defining a
Personality clearly and observing its various traits can be beneficial in deciding a professional career.
However personality should not be the only element considered when selecting a career path. The
individual should have a thorough view of his/her interests, principles, capabilities and skills along
with personality type. These all things when measured collectively, serve as a good source of indicator
for career selection. The Myers Brigg Type Indicator (MBTI) is a well known approach used by many
career guidance professionals, in guiding people regarding their career selection. The MBTI is based
on Carl Jung s psychological theory according to which each individual can be classified into types on
their fondness. According to Jung s theory there are four pairs of contrary preference that indicate
personality type. There are people with energizing ability which are categorized as Extroversion
versus Introversion, second category individuals who recognize information either through Sensing
versus INtution. Third category focuses on decision making ability either through Thinking versus
Feeling and last is living life by Judging or by Perceiving. The letters which is indicated in bold above

Public Service Announcement Analysis
Starting a new school year as a tenth grader, I thought there wouldn t be any big changes but there
was, and there is. My classes became slightly more difficult than they were last year, as a freshman.
Which made it more challenging to keep up with all the class work, tests, quizzes, and homework.
Although, most of the assignments assigned became a bit effortless, of course effort is needed but it s
just so simple to do. All of my classes balance between those two, being challenging at times but also
being simple. I, like every other student was enrolled into a World History class. In History class, we
were assigned a Public Service Announcement(PSA) just recently. In History class, we were able to

We then had to find a primary source ourselves from Modern Times about Transportation. After that
was complete, our second task was to create and design a storyboard for our actual PSA. My group
and I went with a simple task of just drawing out the pictures we had in mind and putting captions on
them. In our storyboard we presented steam trains, steam boats from the Industrial Revolution and
how the invention of the steam engine bettered but also damaged the world. We then showed cruise
ships, trains from modern times. We showed that for modern times trains are used for going to point A
to point B, and boats for example a cruise ship is for luxury. All in all, this bettered transportation for
the future. As time passes, transportation gets better and better. Since the Industrial Revolution the
problem with transportation hasn t changed, it s altered a bit but it s still the same problem. That is
problem is pollution. For example, cars, they run on gasoline and they produce and release exhaust
which pollutes the air. Polluting the air only harms us, so

In the Apology Socrates is a very simple man he is Plato s favorite character based on his personality

Socrates thinks that it requires wisdom to know the difference between the knowledge and an opinion.
And what he means by that is knowledge is based on reasoned ideas beliefs, and can be proved and
confirmed by rational arguments, where s other opinion is not proved. For Socrates, the reason is the
bigger way to show the truth. Socrates explained that role model is how to act well for example an

Decriminalization of victimless crime is a topic that occur often in current events. With the overdose
suffered by Lamar Odom in one of Nevada s Brothel is a most recent example., Presently legalizing
Marijuana is the hot topic. Others have argued for legalization of other victimless crimes, such as
prostitution and assisted suicides. Some of the arguments that have been made concerning victimless
crimes are that the criminal justice system is already backed up and who has moral authority to
criminalize activities that two consenting adults agree to make. These crimes are considered illegal
because government agencies have declared them illegal. Prostitution has been made legal in Nevada

How Did St Augustine Religion Influence Teens
When you think about Augustine s confession, you think about the new generation. In other words, the
conversion that happened over a thousand years ago can be closely related to teenagers of the 21st
century. Before Christianity was developed, a lot of people, especially the Roman emperors could not
accept it. They condemned and harassed the Christians who would claim their faith. When Christianity
was finally accepted, there were still people who contradict with the Christian faith.
Teenagers today find it difficult to come to God, they do not take a straight path. This is similar to
what St Augustine did, teenagers of today try to find meaning in life by being experimental with
different religions or cults. Augustine experimented with the Manicheans, a Persian dualist cult that
believed in two competing gods. The only difference between teenagers of today and Augustine is that
teenagers of today do not go to extreme as St Augustine did rather, they experiment with some of the
main religions. Augustine later saw through the Persian dualist cult and abandoned it. His mother,

Comparison Of Pilgrims First And Puritans
There were many reasons why English colonists decided to cross the Atlantic. Some dreamed of
owning lands and of a life improvement, others were escaping from something that was troubling
them, and some were trying to institute a way of living based on the sacred scriptures. Pilgrims first
and Puritans after tried to establish a new and much more pure form of worship. Although this two
groups had the same desire to apply the protestant reformation to the new world, certainly they differ
in so many ways. First and foremost the terms and their meanings differ. In fact, while the term
pilgrim indicates the one who made a journey for religious purposes, the term puritan defines the one
that wants to reform and purify the church. In 1620, a group

A Historical Context Of Reinforcement
Part A: Historical Context of Reinforcement
In the behavioral science the term, reinforcement signifies strengthening a behavior. Many learning
theories consist of some form of strengthening or weakening a behavior, in which withholding or
presenting reinforcement may decrease or increase the future occurrence of a behavior (Skinner,
1953). The application of reinforcement varies between theorists and the type of learning implied.
Ivan Pavlov (1928) demonstrated the use of reinforcement was connected between the pairings of an
unconditioned stimulus (UCS) and a conditioned stimulus (CS). Pavlov s experiments consisted of
presenting meat powder, an unconditioned stimulus to a dog and as a result the dog produced
salivation. A bell tone, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His subjects were placed in a puzzle box and Thorndike timed how long it took for the cats to escape.
Throughout the experiment, the cats found a lever that opened the cage door. After their escape,
Thorndike placed the cats back into the cage and after repeated trials the cats learned that pressing the
lever would result in a satisfying consequence. The cats behaviors of opening the lever were
reinforced by the favorable consequence of escape. His work led to the development of instrumental
conditioning, which focuses learning from the consequences of responses. Ten years after his first
study, the notion of response reinforcement was introduced through the Law of Effect , which stated,
responses made to the same situation, those which are accompanied or closely followed by satisfaction
to the animal will, other things being equal, be more firmly connected with the situation, so that, when
it recurs, they will be more likely to recur (Thorndike, 1911, p. 250). Essentially, a response that is
followed by a favorable consequence is likely repeat and a response that is followed by an aversive
consequence will not reoccur.
B.F. Skinner modified Thorndike s law of effect principle into what Skinner (1938) called the term,
operant conditioning, in which through the application of reinforcement, a behavior changes for a
more desire response. Skinner (1948) observed operant conditioning through his experiment

Making Sense Of Creativity And Conceptual Performance
Making sense of Creativity and Conceptual Performance
In this first summary paper I will focus on the article called Looking Inside the Fishbowl of Creativity:
Verbal and Behavioral Predictors of Creative Performance, written by John Ruscio, Dean M. Whitney,
and Teresa M. Amabile.
I will break this summary paper to three headings focused first on the preliminary of the research
based upon educated guesses by the researching authors, second the research conducted to answer the
questions pertaining to creativity and performance, then lastly with heading three, the outcomes of the
experiment.
What can we say before the test?
With any research, there has to be a hypothesis of the outcomes expected. Ruscio, Whitney, and
Amabile questioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, personalities with stronger constitutions tend to adapt with more ease to take in account
more possibilities. Thus, expanding their problem solving repertoire to more substantial outcomes.
Testing the question 1
The researchers, wanting to answer the question: Is there any correlation of motivation and creativity
so they came up with some tests to prove if their hypothesis was right. They first came up with a pre
test that asked over 151 college students who were volunteers, below the graduate level questions
related to how they formulate ideas pertaining to solving answers to their everyday lives, along with a
short consult. This is a troublesome task in itself because the person, or persons being tested on their
life questions could feel too embarrassed to answer the questions honestly, and falsify their answer
making it harder to formulate their research. Also, by have an inner dialog a certain type of question
can have an effect of the outcome because one has to take in account of what has been going on during
the assessment combining it all together whether the task was hard, easy, or the participant was just
not really interested. Another way that a test questioner can fail to gather the best information is if the
questions are not set up in categories to more formulate the hypothesis. Asking questions in related
areas can easily formulate the answers more quickly, easily, and can be more succinct. A way to limit
this anomaly is to ask the

How have new emphases and interpretative lenses emphasizing history from below affected the more
traditional subfields of political, military, diplomatic, and sectional history and how do they affect
world history. During the past century these four subfields have evolved within themselves to rise
from their traditional methodologies of study to incorporating social and cultural historiography to
better analyze their subject matter; while turning from an inner study, as it applies to the United States,
towards a more world view. The authors of this week s reading project s a theme or commonality that
has affected their subfield from the turn of the century until now. They all mention Frederick Jackson
Turner s reading of his famous paper, The Significance of the Frontier in American History, where he
argued that frontier settlement, and not institutional and spiritual inheritance from the Old World,
accounted for the origins and peculiar development of American democracy. This was the first time
interpretations of social and cultural were utilized in the studies of particular subfields that started the
Progressive era that lasted until the start of World War II. During this period studies were from the
bottom up versus the old top to bottom approach; going from the great men and great events, to the
study of the ordinary people and incorporating previously neglected groups like women and black.

Mentoring Programs For A Mentoring Program
In today s volatile business world, it is vital for organizations to engage employees both intellectually
and emotionally. Through mentoring, employees identify themselves as a vital part of the organization
while creating a heightened level of ownership. Mentoring programs are of great value to any
organization. In most cases, these programs are considered essential. By developing and implementing
a mentoring program, the learning process for employees is accelerated. It is said that mentoring can
can accomplish things that training cannot (Johnson). Though, developing a mentoring program is not
an easy task, the benefits outweigh the challenges. A mentoring program will help alleviate high
employee turnover and assist in building a pipeline of diverse employees.
The development of a mentoring program begins by deciding on whether it should be a formal or
informal program. On one hand, a formal mentoring program includes 1. Connection to a strategic
business objective of the organization 2. Established goals 3. Measurable outcomes 4. Expert training
and support 4. Direct organizational benefits and 5. Mentoring engagements lasting 9 12 months (
Business mentoring matters , 2012). On the other hand, an informal mentoring program includes: 1.
Unspecified goals 2. Unknown outcomes 3. Self selection of mentors and mentees 4. No expert
training or support 5. Long term mentorship and 6. Indirect organizational benefits ( Business
mentoring matters , 2012). Therefore, based

Are Humans Inherently Evil In Lord Of The Flies
Statement of intent: I am going to write a persuasive essay about how humans are born evil and are
conditioned by society to act civilised, using Lord of the Flies and Goldings idea that humans are
inherently evil, as well as current and historical events to expand on these ideas. The greatest trick the
devil pulled was convincing the world that there is only one of him David Wong. The critically
acclaimed novel Lord of the Flies written by Nobel Prize winning author William Golding explores
the idea that humans are inherently evil, among other ideas such as the loss of innocence, civilisation
versus savagery and much more. Golding portrayed the idea that humans are inherently evil through
the masterful use of symbols and motifs. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
World War II was the setting for some of the most horrific atrocities man has ever committed. Events
including the Holocaust, concentration camps, atomic bombings and many more were the cause of
over 80,000,000 deaths, which at the time was about 3% of the world s population. The acts of Hitler
and the Nazi party in the war were acts of pure evil. Hitler can be directly compared to Jack from Lord
of the Flies as Jack s leadership was based purely on striking fear into others. He made people believe
that if they didn t join him he would hunt and kill them. Hitler s leadership also followed some of this
vicious dictating. Another example of Golding s idea that humans are inherently evil was the murder
of James Patrick Bulger. James who was murdered on the 12th of February 1993 at the age of two. He
was abducted, tortured and murdered by two ten year old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables.
The mere facts the two murderers were of such a young age and came from such good families is a
perfect example of humans are inherently evil and that evil is not taught or learnt, it is simply a part of

Depiction Of Beauty Has On Young Girl s Individual Self...
Current Study The purpose of this study is to investigate the depiction of beauty in animated Disney
Princess movies and consequences the portrayal of beauty has on young girl s individual self esteem.
This study includes one general hypothesis. The hypothesis states that young girls who idealize the
beauty standards of Disney Princesses will have lower self esteem than young girls who do not
idealize their standard of beauty. I expected that young girls who have the desire to mimic Disney
Princesses will have lower self esteem because the beauty standards of Disney Princess are impossible
to obtain; therefore, their perception of beauty will become extremely faltered, which will lead to a
decrease in their self esteem levels and a negative perception of their body image compared to Disney
Princesses. Young girls with higher expectations regarding beauty standards, self esteems will be
negatively impacted due to the beauty goodness stereotype presented in animated Disney films, for
Disney films portray beauty over all human attributes, which skews young girl s perception of beauty
and their overall self image. This study is similar to an experiment conducted by Bazzini et al.
In Bazzini et al. study, the researchers assessed whether children can be influenced by a single
exposure to animated Disney films that are either stereotypical in its portrayal of characters or non
stereotypical in its portrayal of the physical attractiveness stereotype, and if the physical

Income Taxes
When you get your paycheck at the end of the first pay period at a new job, it s always interesting to

up like a piece of pie, with several entities taking a piece of the pie. The entities that take money differ
from person to person, company to company and state to state. However, almost every income earner
has to pay federal income tax. An income tax is a tax levied on the financial income of persons,
corporations, or other legal entities. Various income tax systems exist, with varying degrees of tax
incidence. Income taxation can be progressive, proportional, or regressive. When the tax is levied on

Simplicity and fairness are also natural consequences of these component features of tax reform.
These major features of a flat tax are: A Single Flat Rate. All flat tax proposals have a single rate,
usually less than 20 percent. The low, flat rate solves the problem of high marginal tax rates by
reducing penalties against productive behavior, such as work, risk taking, and entrepreneurship.
Elimination of Special Preferences. Flat tax proposals would eliminate provisions of the tax code that
bestow preferential tax treatment on certain behaviors and activities. Getting rid of deductions, credits,
exemptions, and other loopholes also helps solve the problem of complexity, allowing taxpayers to file
their tax returns on a postcard sized form. No Double Taxation of Saving and Invest¬ment. Flat tax
proposals would eliminate the tax code s bias against capital formation by ending the double taxation
of income that is saved and invested. This means no death tax, no capital gains tax, no double taxation
of saving, and no double tax on dividends. By taxing income only one time, a flat tax is easier to
enforce and more conducive to job creation and capital formation. Territorial Taxation. Flat tax
proposals are based on the commonsense notion of territorial taxation, meaning that governments
should tax only income that is earned inside national borders. By getting rid of worldwide taxation, a
flat tax enables U.S. taxpayers and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Gender Division Of Labor
In today s society, tasks are usually divided in a household in order to improve productivity. Division
of labor is not only part of workforce labor but it can also be noticed in a household labor. Some
advantages for the division of labor are, a greater increase in technology and time saving for labor;
disadvantages are, loss of responsibility as workers are assigned to a particular task and no one takes a
responsibility from any mistake.
In the household division of labor, tasks are usually divided between men and women of the

Every job is a choice, women prefer to stay in clean industries while men choose to work in harsh and
dirty conditions. While this can justify why some women are paid less but it s still not fair to women

economist believes that women choose to become pregnant, it still doesn t justify it. If every woman
had believed in just focusing on work and not having children, we might not even be alive today.
Although there are many laws that help prevent gender wage gap discrimination, including Lilly
Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and The Paycheck Fairness Act, the wage gap has a long way to go before it
gets better. Furthermore, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is an increase in the women s
labor force in the last 60 years, there is still a division of labor in a sense that women should do
household work while men should go out and work. Even though this not what my parents wanted to

  • 2. The Influence Of Beliefs In The Canterbury Tales Barna surveyed 718 self identified Christians from a variety of denominations to find what extent their actions and attitudes line up with Jesus s. Researchers found only 1 in 7 Christians manages to hold Christ like beliefs and also act in Christ like ways (Steffan). Chaucer depicts a group of twenty nine diverse travelers on a pilgrimage to Canterbury to visit the grave of St. Thomas a Becket. Many of the religious figures from the tales fail to measure up to the actions and attitudes of Christ as well. It is ironic because their attitudes consist of helping people and honesty but their actions show a completely different image. In The Canterbury Tales, the Nun, the Monk, and the Pardoner are rich, which is ironic because they take a vow of poverty. Chaucer manifests the Nun s true character through her actions and appearance. One way he shows her true character is through her clothing. The text reads, She wore a coral trinket on her arm, a set of beads, the gaudies tricked in green (l. 156 157). The Nun wore expensive jewelry and clothing which suggests she believes more in worldliness instead of poverty. She should not have money to afford her expensive clothing and jewelry because she took a vow of poverty. The vow of poverty dedicated her life to the church and she goes against the vow by being rich. Another way Chaucer shows the Nun s true character is through her emotions. For example, She used to weep if she but saw a mouse caught in a trap, if it were dead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Abstract Expressionism Essay abstract expressionism It was a full 170 years after Americans had their political revolution that they won an aesthetic revolution. American art to get rid of its inhibiting mechanisms provincialism, over dependence on European sources, and an indifferent public and liberate itself into a quality and expressive force equal to, or exceeding that of art produced anywhere within the period. Few would argue that the painting and sculpture that emerged from the so called New York School in the mid 1940s was the foremost artistic phenomenon of its time and was labeled as the Abstract Expressionist movement. Abstract expressionism was a reaction to social realism, surrealism, and primitive art in the 1940s; this is a turning point in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sacred signs overlaid over unconfined surfaces were appealing because the artist was not restricted by a framing edge. They also admired the scale of cave paintings. They were very big and encouraged their followers to paint big. The most significant impact of primitive art was the cave paintings admirable freedom, which influenced the free, unbound style in which the abstract expressionists painted. The revolt of fascism and realism is freedom, which is articulated in the free form style of the Abstract Expressionist. Americans for generations had sought to achieve their own artistic maturity and had largely failed, either by inadequate assimilation of European models or by America s own provincialism. The Abstract Expressionist Movement was so influential because it was the first time that American artists were doing something new and different from Europe. American Artists for the first time had an advantage over Europe, which virtually transferred the center of the art world from Paris to New York. Ironically, it was the paralyzing poverty of the Great Depression that gave younger American artists their first advantage. Beginning in 1935, with the Federal Art Project organized under the Works Progress Administration, artists could earn a living as artists and do so free to create in whatever manner they might choose. They could even gravitate to New York, traditionally America s safe haven for the revolutionary, and there band together as a beleaguered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cyber Threats And The Cyber Threat In recent years information security and privacy have come to be topics of high importance with rapid technological advancements. Technology has provided vast areas of opportunities, but these have also brought along unprecedented threats. Since the Morris worm in the 1980 s cyber threat has grown from isolated incidents to high profile attacks on major government and private organizations. Cyber threats can be classified broadly into three distinct areas ï‚· Cyber crime intentional attacks carried out by individuals or groups of individuals with specific objectives of acquiring money, data or causing disruption. ï‚· Cyber war an attack conducted by a nation against another nation with the objective to cause disruption or obtain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two popular and large scale self propagating worms in 2001 are Code Red and NIMDA. The motivation for the attackers of both these worms were to gain notoriety and fame. Code Red exploited buffer overflow vulnerability in the IIS server of Microsoft. NIMDA on the other hand used multiple propagation techniques such as email, network sharing, exploiting directory traversal vulnerabilities of Microsoft IIS server. These widespread attacks led to the adoption of Intrusion detection systems. 3. Monetary benefit The third phase began around 2004 with the social engineering technique of phishing. The attacks attempted the victims to reveal passwords, identity information and payment card details which would then be used to extract money. 4. Threat and destruction The phase began in 2007/08 with the distributed denial of service attacks launched against Georgia and Estonia. The significant attack in this phase was in 2010 with the Stuxnet, the first malware that was able to compromise industrial control systems. This was significant because it showed that cyber threats were now not limited to servers, software, data and continuity but affected safety as well. Around this same time started the Advanced Persistent Threats. 5. Future Cyber attacks have become increasingly sophisticated and varied targeting various high profile multinational companies. • 5. Who Is The Protagonist In Fight Club Fight Club (1999) Fight Club is a drama directed by David Fincher, based on the Chuck Palahniuk novel of the same name. It follows an insomniac (Edward Norton), who becomes discontented with his white collar job and forms an underground fight club with the eccentric Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). (Figure 3.1) Tyler spliced frames in Fight Club, this technique foreshadows Tyler s habit of splicing explicit imagery into family films. Throughout the opening twenty to thirty minutes of the film, until his full introduction, Tyler is implanted in single frames at moments where he would reflect what the Narrator would want to become (fig 3.1) such as at the self help groups the Narrator occupies his time with due to his insomnia, showing that the Narrator is still formulating the personality. This technique is alluded to during Tyler s montage showing his night jobs, where he cuts single frames of pornographic movies into family movies. (Figure 3.2) Narrator with Tyler in the background Throughout the entire film, Tyler is presented in scenes doing whatever the Narrator would rather be doing, such as when the Narrator is on the phone to Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), Tyler is shown playing with nun chucks in the background. This feeds into the fact that Tyler is the idealised, more laid back version of the Narrator. Fincher shows the spilt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Beowulf Heroic Qualities Beowulf, the hero of the epic Beowulf, was a great king and leader, from youth to his declining years. He displays his heroism in three separate conflicts, which take place in two different phases of his life. Despite these challenging tasks, Beowulf exhibits unique heroic qualities throughout his youth and declining years that make him a great king and leader of the Geats. Since his youth as a great warrior lasts so long, the epic portrays Beowulf in three different feats of strength and courage. His first feat was in his swimming match with Breca. Unferth, jealous of Beowulf s popularity with his fellow Danes, brings up Beowulf s loss in a swimming match to Breca. Unferth states that Beowulf will face defeat against Grendel once again as no one has ever outlasted an entire night against Grendel. (37) Beowulf replies that he lost the swimming match against Breca because he was interrupted by the sea beasts. He was swimming shoulder to shoulder... for five nights (37) with Breca but landed on the coast of Finland later than Breca because he had to slay nine sea monsters when he got pulled down. He mocks Unferth afterwards, saying that Unferth or Breca would both be unable to protect themselves against the sea monsters. Beowulf s second great feat was mortally wounding Grendel. The Danes were scared from the terror and murder that Grendel had inflicted on them. Beowulf, with a confident persona, waits and grabs Grendel harder than anything he had ever encountered in any ... • 7. A Social Media Marketing Plan Marketing has evolved and grown tremendously throughout the years. If you have a Facebook or instagram page you have seen some sort of marketing promotion or ad that a local business is offering to draw in customers or a following. For instance Z Burger, a burger joint in the DC area offered a promotion that went viral through Facebook offering $2 burgers and $4 veggie burgers for the entire day of last Tuesday at their Columbia Heights location. I attended myself thinking it was going to be ridiculously crowded but I beat the rush and the staff created a system that provided a speedy service and less wait time to order and receive your food. That event was so popular through Facebook that they are offering a second location and if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To launch social media marketing campaigns, all businesses need to do is sign up for free with each social network they want to use. Once registered, businesses can create individual profiles for their business and start posting content, such as industry trends, company news and promotional information right away. This phenomenon has only developed within the last decade, thus social media research has largely focused on (1) defining what it is through the explanation of new terminology and concepts that makeup its foundations, and (2) exploring the impact of a company s integration of social media on consumer behavior. This paper begins with an explanation of terminology that defines social media marketing, followed by a discussion of the four main themes found within current research studies: Virtual Brand Communities, Consumers Attitudes and Motives, User Generated Content, and Viral Advertising. Although social media marketing is a well researched topic, it has only been studied through experimental and theoretical research; studies never precisely describe the benefits retailers gain from this marketing tactic. In reviewing the rich plethora of multi disciplinary literature, it is has become clear that studies are focusing on describing what social media marketing is as well as examining what factors affect consumer behavior relative to social networking. Despite the initial progress made by researchers, development in this area of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Anne Bradstreet s Poetry In The 19th Century Poets from the nineteenth century vary widely in subject, tone, and form. To remark that poets prior to 1865 are all the same is short sighted, as it denies the recurring themes and unique individual styles of the poets. Readers can differentiate poets such as Anne Bradstreet, Phillis Wheatley, Edgar Allan Poe, Walt Whitman, and Emily Dickinson through the poetic devices that they use and the recurring themes or interests they have. To begin, poets in the nineteenth century differ in whether they were intended to be published and if they were accompanied with an authenticating document. An example of a poet whose work is mostly based on personal experiences and feelings is Anne Bradstreet. Bradstreet s poems tend to focus on her relationship with her husband ( A Letter to her Husband ), her children ( Before the Birth of One of her Children ), and her faith ( Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House ). The recurring themes that Bradstreet explores in her poetry center on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike Bradstreet, Wheatley s poems are a reflection on the Great Awakening revival that use colorful, emotional language to emphasize the personal religious commitment as a sensory experience. Wheatley s poetic voice is heavily inspired by sermons, which is most noticeable in her poem, To the University of Cambridge. Edgar Allen Poe s poetry is wildly different to both Wheatley s and Bradstreet s poetry. Poe s poems have recurring elements of the Gothic and the supernatural. The Gothic and supernatural are prominent in both the setting and the tone of Poe s poems. Poe tends to use repetition to signal the importance of the line or word, such as nevermore, to create the unity of effect. I guess that only applies if you are a straight, white man. A minority is a part of a population differing from others in some characteristics and are often subjected to different treatment. That said, minorities were mistreated and shoved to the back of history. In Aria by Richard Rodriguez the Rodriguez family feel what it means to be a minority in their everyday life. They re held at arm s length by the people around them, and struggle to assimilate. In Rise of the Rocket Girls by Nathalia Holt it s not race that sets these women behind. It is simply the fact that they are women. In both novels society is presenting more challenges to a certain group, but that does not stop them. Even today minorities are still at a disadvantage. That does not stop people from pursuing their goals and dreams. As a student perseverance is needed because you cannot give up easily or you just will not make it. Aria has many counter arguments and debates revolving around assimilation. To better visualize the meaning of assimilation imagine having a group of blue blocks all exactly the same. You bring in a few different colored blocks red, yellow, green ones. In order for them to fit in you paint them all blue. Isn t that erasing part of who they are? Obviously, good health is a major factor of being happy and satisfied with an Americans life. People also place family and friends very high on the list of value for health care insurance. Health care has become the stress to every person s life. Health care controls everything a person does due to the drawbacks of not having it when it is necessary; like breaking an arm or coming down with a deathly illness. Health care reform will be on the agenda for future sessions of Congress, because the economic pressures of rising health care costs on the federal government, business, and individuals are not going to abate (King). Health care has become a pain for many reasons. It takes up time, money, and security. Having health care in the United States is a necessity; without this many hospitals do not admit a patient or, if done so, the patient becomes flooded with bills for everything. But just because health care is a necessity in the United States does not mean it comes easily. Many learning theories consist of some form of strengthening or weakening a behavior, in which withholding or presenting reinforcement may decrease or increase the future occurrence of a behavior (Skinner, 1953). The application of reinforcement varies between theorists and the type of learning implied. The cats behaviors of opening the lever were reinforced by the favorable consequence of escape. His work led to the development of instrumental conditioning, which focuses learning from the consequences of responses. Ten years after his first study, the notion of response reinforcement was introduced through the Law of Effect , which stated, responses made to the same situation, those which are accompanied or closely followed by satisfaction to the animal will, other things being equal, be more firmly connected with the situation, so that, when it recurs, they will be more likely to recur (Thorndike, 1911, p. 250). This was the first time interpretations of social and cultural were utilized in the studies of particular subfields that started the Progressive era that lasted until the start of World War II. During this period studies were from the bottom up versus the old top to bottom approach; going from the great men and great events, to the study of the ordinary people and incorporating previously neglected groups like women and black. • 31. Essay About Monsters As soon as he stepped through that portal and through the other side, he could hear the crystal clear sounds of the birds in the trees. The Warblers and the Flycatchers. The Longspurs and the Grouse. Each identified by their own specific kind of cry. Arma looked upwards towards the tall and surroundings trees that spanned as far as skyscrapers and the blue sky beyond, straight down to the forest below. Normally it would have been a place for him to wander and explore, to take pleasure in but he knew he wasn t here to sight see. Not to mention this place was no daydream. The further he walked forward, the more that fact would become apparent as the sickening stench of blood hit his nostrils, followed by the sickening stench of rotting ... Mog moved to swing the club down and towards the ground in order to splat and spear the lion all at once, but Arma dodged quickly, jumping to the side as he went tumbling in order to get away from him fast. He had just enough time to swing to the left as that club came down again, rustling up dirt and grass in the process. Moving to dig his hands straight into the dirt, Arma sent a good amount of it at the troll s eyes, using the time he used to scratch it out to get back to his feet and closer to an open area where he could deal with him. Mog roared, unhappy that not only was his food running away from him, but that his food was challenging him as well. As soon as Mog started to lug his giant rear forward, gaining speed the more room he had to run, Arma turned and ran, moving to run himself up along one of the tree trunks like it were a simple wall to jump, reaching for a tree branch. Leaping straight to it, he put those acrobatic skills to work as he swung himself around and around again, gaining speed and distance as he used the branch like a gymnast would a bar, giving him enough room to sail overhead the giant mass of black fur and pure rage. He timed it just right and given those lion reflexes, the strength, he let go at the precise moment to sail overhead just as that club came swinging in his direction, taking out yet another tree in the process as Arma moved his body into a full twist overhead, only ... • 32. Mentoring Programs For A Mentoring Program In today s volatile business world, it is vital for organizations to engage employees both intellectually and emotionally. Through mentoring, employees identify themselves as a vital part of the organization while creating a heightened level of ownership. Mentoring programs are of great value to any organization. In most cases, these programs are considered essential. By developing and implementing a mentoring program, the learning process for employees is accelerated. It is said that mentoring can can accomplish things that training cannot (Johnson). Though, developing a mentoring program is not an easy task, the benefits outweigh the challenges. A mentoring program will help alleviate high employee turnover and assist in building a pipeline of diverse employees. The development of a mentoring program begins by deciding on whether it should be a formal or informal program. On one hand, a formal mentoring program includes 1. Connection to a strategic business objective of the organization 2. Established goals 3. Measurable outcomes 4. Expert training and support 4. Direct organizational benefits and 5. Mentoring engagements lasting 9 12 months ( Business mentoring matters , 2012). On the other hand, an informal mentoring program includes: 1. Unspecified goals 2. Unknown outcomes 3. Self selection of mentors and mentees 4. No expert training or support 5. Long term mentorship and 6. Indirect organizational benefits ( Business mentoring matters , 2012). Therefore, based ... • 33. Are Humans Inherently Evil In Lord Of The Flies Statement of intent: I am going to write a persuasive essay about how humans are born evil and are conditioned by society to act civilised, using Lord of the Flies and Goldings idea that humans are inherently evil, as well as current and historical events to expand on these ideas. The greatest trick the devil pulled was convincing the world that there is only one of him David Wong. The critically acclaimed novel Lord of the Flies written by Nobel Prize winning author William Golding explores the idea that humans are inherently evil, among other ideas such as the loss of innocence, civilisation versus savagery and much more. Golding portrayed the idea that humans are inherently evil through the masterful use of symbols and motifs. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... World War II was the setting for some of the most horrific atrocities man has ever committed. Events including the Holocaust, concentration camps, atomic bombings and many more were the cause of over 80,000,000 deaths, which at the time was about 3% of the world s population. The acts of Hitler and the Nazi party in the war were acts of pure evil. Hitler can be directly compared to Jack from Lord of the Flies as Jack s leadership was based purely on striking fear into others. He made people believe that if they didn t join him he would hunt and kill them. Hitler s leadership also followed some of this vicious dictating. Another example of Golding s idea that humans are inherently evil was the murder of James Patrick Bulger. James who was murdered on the 12th of February 1993 at the age of two. He was abducted, tortured and murdered by two ten year old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables. The mere facts the two murderers were of such a young age and came from such good families is a perfect example of humans are inherently evil and that evil is not taught or learnt, it is simply a part of ... • 34. Depiction Of Beauty Has On Young Girl s Individual Self... Current Study The purpose of this study is to investigate the depiction of beauty in animated Disney Princess movies and consequences the portrayal of beauty has on young girl s individual self esteem. This study includes one general hypothesis. The hypothesis states that young girls who idealize the beauty standards of Disney Princesses will have lower self esteem than young girls who do not idealize their standard of beauty. I expected that young girls who have the desire to mimic Disney Princesses will have lower self esteem because the beauty standards of Disney Princess are impossible to obtain; therefore, their perception of beauty will become extremely faltered, which will lead to a decrease in their self esteem levels and a negative perception of their body image compared to Disney Princesses. Young girls with higher expectations regarding beauty standards, self esteems will be negatively impacted due to the beauty goodness stereotype presented in animated Disney films, for Disney films portray beauty over all human attributes, which skews young girl s perception of beauty and their overall self image. This study is similar to an experiment conducted by Bazzini et al. In Bazzini et al. study, the researchers assessed whether children can be influenced by a single exposure to animated Disney films that are either stereotypical in its portrayal of characters or non stereotypical in its portrayal of the physical attractiveness stereotype, and if the physical ... • 35. Income Taxes When you get your paycheck at the end of the first pay period at a new job, it s always interesting to see your net pay. Most of us expect more than we get. By the time you get your check, it has been cut up like a piece of pie, with several entities taking a piece of the pie. The entities that take money differ from person to person, company to company and state to state. However, almost every income earner has to pay federal income tax. An income tax is a tax levied on the financial income of persons, corporations, or other legal entities. Various income tax systems exist, with varying degrees of tax incidence. Income taxation can be progressive, proportional, or regressive. When the tax is levied on the income of companies, it is often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simplicity and fairness are also natural consequences of these component features of tax reform. These major features of a flat tax are: A Single Flat Rate. All flat tax proposals have a single rate, usually less than 20 percent. The low, flat rate solves the problem of high marginal tax rates by reducing penalties against productive behavior, such as work, risk taking, and entrepreneurship. Elimination of Special Preferences. Flat tax proposals would eliminate provisions of the tax code that bestow preferential tax treatment on certain behaviors and activities. Getting rid of deductions, credits, exemptions, and other loopholes also helps solve the problem of complexity, allowing taxpayers to file their tax returns on a postcard sized form. No Double Taxation of Saving and Invest¬ment. Flat tax proposals would eliminate the tax code s bias against capital formation by ending the double taxation of income that is saved and invested. This means no death tax, no capital gains tax, no double taxation of saving, and no double tax on dividends. By taxing income only one time, a flat tax is easier to enforce and more conducive to job creation and capital formation. Territorial Taxation. Flat tax proposals are based on the commonsense notion of territorial taxation, meaning that governments should tax only income that is earned inside national borders. By getting rid of worldwide taxation, a flat tax enables U.S. taxpayers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Gender Division Of Labor In today s society, tasks are usually divided in a household in order to improve productivity. Division of labor is not only part of workforce labor but it can also be noticed in a household labor. Some advantages for the division of labor are, a greater increase in technology and time saving for labor; disadvantages are, loss of responsibility as workers are assigned to a particular task and no one takes a responsibility from any mistake. In the household division of labor, tasks are usually divided between men and women of the household. It is believed that women are better at household work, therefore they should continue that and since men are more productive at work, they should choose that path. Every job is a choice, women prefer to stay in clean industries while men choose to work in harsh and dirty conditions. While this can justify why some women are paid less but it s still not fair to women who work the same hours and at the same job as men and is still paid less. Even when neoclassical economist believes that women choose to become pregnant, it still doesn t justify it. If every woman had believed in just focusing on work and not having children, we might not even be alive today. Although there are many laws that help prevent gender wage gap discrimination, including Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and The Paycheck Fairness Act, the wage gap has a long way to go before it gets better. Furthermore, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is an increase in the women s labor force in the last 60 years, there is still a division of labor in a sense that women should do household work while men should go out and work.
