Analysis Of Volkswagens Leadership Differs From Other...
External Analysis
A.Macro Environment
1.Cultural Trends
Volkswagens leadership differs from other German car makers in that their supervisory board
which governs over the executive board also includes local politicians (maybe a key factor in
their recent scandal). The other major auto makers in Germany all have supervisory boards as
well but they are in place primarily to govern the executives and look out for the interests of the
shareholders. This being said the two politicians are looking out for the best interest of the local
workers and executives, so between them and the eight local people elected to the supervisory
board it gives them an overwhelming majority in votes that may have a negative impact on the
production of vehicles there.
Their work culture is a demanding pace with expectations set high for management and workers
alike. Although they have a policy in place to allow workers to voice their concerns about the cars
or subsystems that is generally not the case as far as the executive level goes with many directors
and managers fearing for their jobs if anything subpar is brought up.(1)
2.Demographic Trends
Over the past fifteen years Volkswagenhas set about to redefine their target audience in car buyers
to the more environmentally conscious consumer. This came about during a time when they had
acquired the Audi, Porsche, and Bentley lines of cars. Having those available as an income stream
allowed VW execs to gamble with the environmental movement going

The Worst Flood Of The Mississippi River Basin
In 1993, the Midwest experienced the worst flood in American history affecting ten states in the
Upper Mississippi River basin. The flooding lasted from late spring to fall, killing fifty two
people and damaging a 100,000 homes and businesses. The cause of the flooding was a heavy
winter with lots of snow and a spring season full of rain, which saturated the soil. Instead, of a hot
summer, the rain kept coming and the Upper Mississippi RiverBasin received three and a half times
its normal rain. Since it continuously rained, the water levels kept rising and many of the levees
broke. The water levels stayed high for weeks destroying towns and agriculture all throughout the
Midwest.
One of the main issues leading up to the flood of 1993 was the failed communication and
partnership between local, state, and federal governments. The federal government is in charge of
floodplain management instead of the local and state government, which prevents local
governments becoming involved. This form of management flaw became revealed by the
amount of damage the flood made. The reason the damage was so devastating and so many
people lost their homes and businesses is because the federal government failed to understand the
Executive Order of 1977 and permitted building in the flood plains. Some examples of the EO
being understood are a low income housing project funded by HUD and a federally funded state
prison within floodplains, and a proposed construction of a federal weather

World Hunger Rough Draft
World Hunger Rough Draft
World hunger is a very serious issue in today s world, that is very stunning in a world full of
resources and food to feed the hungry. World hunger affects millions around the world. There are
795 million malnutritioned people around the world today. The good news is that hunger is a
problem that can be solved. There is enough food in the world to feed everyone. Today s
knowledge, and willing people can just be enough to solve the main issue of world hunger.
Chronic hunger derives from poverty, armed conflict, being poor, and environ mental overload.
World hunger has many causes, these causes eventually lead to chronic hunger. Far more people die
from causes related to chronic hunger than to famine. Chronically hungry people are exceptionally
vulnerable when famine strikes . This relates to the ancient Egyptian myth, The Seven Years
Famine. Us as human beings need to take action and help the hungry eat and learn how to sustain
themselves.
Prophet Joseph led his Egyptian people through the long term famine. He help build grain silos to
store wheat for a s long as possible otherwise the people of Egypt would have had many casualties

They need the right people to care for them. No one is helping, and even if they are it is not
enough. These people cannot just live this lifestyle forever and pass it from one generation to
another. We have to teach how to sustain themselves. Nobody is doing that, world billionaires
have enough money to feed poor and poverty stricken villages around the world without their
income being affected at all. It is very sad that world hunger is still around and millions of years.
This world is developed and should not have as many hungry people as it has today. We all need
to help in any sort of way. Even if you are not wealthy enough to feed them yourself at least make
an attempt to promote stopping world hunger

Essay on Why Girls Become Strippers
Why Girls Become Strippers
For years men and women alike have wondered the same question, that is, Why do girls become
strippers? Well, there are three main reasons. The first reason being the opportunity for monetary
gain to better their future. In Ganttageep s article, Exotic Dancing: Illusion and Fantasy, An Exotic
Dancers Path to Power , he shows this desire for money in this following quote, When asked why
they got into the world of exotic dancing many women state that money is the main reason,
(Ganttageep.) In addition, there own personal desires play a huge role in their life changing
decision. Finally, previous experiences in life and their skills and attributes greatly affect girls in
their decision to become strippers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I asked Tiffany, Why did you decide to become a stripper in the first place?, (See Appendix I.)
She told me that above all else the decision was money driven, Mostly financial reasons.... I
needed the money at the time, (See Appendix I.) She also told me that she didn t like to strip, I hate
it, but I don t really have a choice, (See Appendix I.), and only did it as a temporary means of
quick money. Then Tiffany proceeded to tell me in our interview that many girls who are strippers
are people who have become addicted to the money, You get addicted to the money, (
I believed that she was quite a valid source of information because she has worked at around five
to six strip clubs, varying from holes in the ground to upscale gentlemen s clubs. She seemed
like a great person. She was nothing like what the media and society portray strippers to be,
which is a dirty women with loose or no morals or self respect. In the news article published by
BBC News the following was said, Morals are loose as it is and frankly I just want to enjoy a
drink without looking at another one of England s problems dancing in my face, (BBC News.)
This quote shows peoples negative views on the topic of stripping. If you saw her on the streets
you would never guess what she did for a profession. From what I have found, especially in the
older generations, a majority of society have never been to a strip club, they just look down upon
this industry as one that is dirty and a fountain of

Whaling African Americans
Whaling
Whaling was very physical and economic business and the primary products were spermaceti,
whale bones, sperm, and whale oil. The Native Americans used whaling for tribal purposes. The
colonist in NEw ENgland hunted whales for baleen and oil. Whaling also gave them better burning
candles. This is how the number of hales began to decrease as time went on.
Moreover, whales were hunted for mainly oil, because of this, colonists were hunting whales for
half a century. To make the oil they carried pots on their ships, they would cook the oil after they
hunted the whale and they put them in barrels. Since the oil was extremely hot, it wouldn t spoil,
so it was good for long voyages. Whale teeth were also used. The sailors would use the teeth to

Baleen whales have long strips (baleen) used to strain out krill from the sea water. Baleen is used
in corset stays, umbrella ribls, carriage springs, and fishing poles. It s also made of kerotin, which

which lowered the cost.
Another thing that whales gave colonist where candles. They were a primary source for the

Colonists were hunting whales so often that by the 1700 s whales were nearly extinct. Since they
were close to extinction colonists had to travel far in order to hunt them. In 1712 there was a
whale that colonist discovered that was plentiful in oil, so colonists targeted the whale for nearly
half a century. By the 1700s New Bedford Massachusetts was the place where the majority of the
colonists went to hunt. Most of the trips to hunt whales were in the South

WWII Compare Contrast Essay
World War II is probably the most famous war to date, but how were the weapons and tactics
first used. Most of the weapons used in WWII were first designed in WWI, in fact that s when the
flamethrower was invented. WWI and WWII have their fair share of similarities, such as the use of
submarines. These similarities are also there differences, such as both wars using subs but WWII
more heavily using them and making more advancements. The time period in between WWI and
WWII was one of the most technologically advancing times in world history.
In WWI, planes were works in progress causing many deaths, but in WWII those weapons were
worked on and made much more reliable and effective. For example, in WWI there was the

A common tactic used in WWI was Infiltration Tactics . This was a much better tactic than the
others. It was done a experienced troops infiltrating enemy territory to surprise the guards then
doing a full fledged assault. This was a good tactic but it was basic. In the same war, there was
trench warfare. Trench warfare was done by opposing army s creating trenches. In between
those trenches was an area known as no man s land and was the most dangerous place to be. This
tactic lead to many standoffs and also extremely high numbers of casualties in a short period of
time. One of the most efficient ways of winning these battles was chemical warfare. All that
needed to happen was to throw a chemical bomb into the enemy s trench and then wait. Another
of the famous tactics was called Blitzkrieg . This was a German tactic first used in Poland with
little success and then used with more success in Belgium later on. What made Blitzkrieg so
successful was how it was done. Blitzkrieg was done by German forces making a concentrated fire
at the enemy scattering their troops. Once the troops were scattered, the Germans were free to pick

The Origins Of Computer Science
The origins of computers date back to the mid 1900s. During the creation, the binary code of zeros
and ones was formulated as a basic foundation of what computers can run off of. This code was
used to communicate to a computer and manipulate it to assess whatever tasks need to be dealt
with. As more of these problems arose, the communication between computers and humans became
more complicated. Computers began growing more in fame and need. Computerengineers were
faced with a problem as to how to make the connection between man and machine less
complicated, thus computer languages were formed. They created a higher level language
system, one that was much easier for programmers to work with compared to the binary code .
Through the years, these languages developed with the complexity of computers themselves. The
world was beginning to see just how important computers were for everyday life, and the need
for the people who work with them were equally as needed. To justify the argument of the
computer science field increasing, we must first talk about the origin of computer science itself.
Before the 1840 s, no one was thinking about programming or rather the concept of, a program as
a series of instructions controlling the operation of a general purpose computer (Haigh). However,
according to Where Code Comes From: Architectures of Automatic Control from Babbage to Algol
by Thomas Haigh and Mark Priestley, Charles Babbage was the first to really tackle this

Themes In Tim Winton s The Turning By Tim Winton
In western Australian author Tim Winton s book, The Turning, the large collection of short
stories are aimed towards teenagers and other people who have been teenagers. This is so,
because each story uses a similar theme to do with finishing high school, how people decide what
they want to do for the rest of their lives and the character s journeys along the way.
The story Family is told from a third person view about a man named Leaper. He chooses to leave
his home and family in his HK and decides to travel to a beach named white point. On arrival, he
finds his brother Max surfing on the water. Leaper meets up with Max and both end up having a

On her knees deals with themes such as family, pride and self respect. The most important part of
the story is when the narrator Victor, is advising her mother not to return to her place of work as
the latter was accused of having stolen a pair of earrings in the house she works as a servant to
make ends meet. At this point, the story has reached an important situation which will be discussed
in this essay with close reference to the mother son relationship. On her knees reflects the reality of
life where one has to struggle and where those who work for honesty always face trouble.
This highlights the realistic atmosphere prevailing as well as reflects the true meaning of
relationship. The readers are exposed to the mother son relationship. It can be seen that even if the
narrator is a twenty year old law student, he is still the little boy who needed his neck scrubbed
from the point of view of the mother. Whatever good advice the son gives, it is not followed and
instead he is given a lecture. This is a typical mother son relationship which shows that no matter
how much a child grows, he always remains a little kid for the mother. Moreover, the readers also
notice the routine life of the narrator and his mother. The boy used to accompany his mother to
work and help her which makes a four hour job becomes two. There is solidarity, strong family
bond and understanding between them because although he did not like his mother

Biobottle Lab Report
Biobottle Write up In the biobottle experiment, the purpose was to create a closed ecosystem,
containing biotic and abiotic factors, which aimed to sustain life without contact with the outside
world throughout a period of six weeks. For the procedure, the ecosystem was to be observed over
this time. The experiment began when a one quart mason jar with its contents was sealed on
October 7, 2015. In the beginning of the experiment, the known contents of the jar and initial
rationales behind them (italicized) included: в—ЏWater from the middle pond filled to the 600 mL

One cycle that was visually observed was the water cycle. Shown in the Amount of and
Condensation Size graph on page two, a specific cycle was seen. At the times of the high density
of droplets, most of the time the condensation was much like a mist, having just evaporated and
not yet condensed. However, as it condensed, there were fewer droplets. As the droplets got
bigger, they would rain down in the jar as precipitation due to gravity. Then, the cycle repeated,
as shown by the graph. Another cycle that must have been in the jar for life to survive was the
carbon and oxygen cycle. In order for the organisms to access new oxygen after the initial air was
trapped in the jar, producers supplied the animals with oxygen, seen as bubbles in the algae
throughout the observation period. In addition, since the algae survived and appeared to have
grown, the organisms must have been supplying the producers with their necessary carbon

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Reactors
A nuclear reactor works by using a neutron to split an atom. The atom being split is introduced by
the fuel cell which is usually uranium, plutonium, thorium, or actinides. When this reaction takes
place it releases a large amount of energy which is harnessed in the form of steam. This process of
harnessing nuclear energy is a highly controversial topic with many pros and cons. In comparison
with fossil fuels and renewable energies, nuclear reactors are more cost efficient and produce very
little harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Nuclear Generation 4 was formed from an
international group, Generation IV International Forum, also known as GIF, with the aim at

The Dual Language Program Essay Essay
As a little girl in preschool, I was constantly getting in trouble for talking. The teacher would
move me away from my friends, but I would end up making new friends and getting in trouble
all over again. I was the type who could talk to anyone. I was not afraid of asking questions or
starting conversations. Even language barriers were not a problem for me. In kindergarten,
there was a boy who sat next to me in class. He did not speak any English and I did not speak any
Spanish but that could not stop me. Every day I would go home and ask my mom What does
this mean or How do you say this? I loved meeting new people and no obstacle could stand in my
way from doing just that. Since I had such an interest in Spanish, my mother enrolled me in the
dual language program when I entered the first grade. I struggled at the beginning only knowing a
few Spanish phrases but I caught on very quickly. By wintertime the mothers of the other children
were not only surprised that I was speaking Spanish but I had the other kids speaking English.
Somewhere down the line in elementary school I lost the ability to communicate. My vocal
chords were physically intact but what happened to me was a social and mental issue. That
talkative little girl was suddenly shut into a dark room for a reason she was too young to
understand. I was very uncomfortable conversing with other students: my face would heat up and
my heart would race. By the time middle school came around, not only had I closed

how Slaughter realized she was living every feminists life but gave it up to be with her family. To
Slaughter having it all meant what type of job she had, but according to her she soon realized that,
having it all was not possible in many types of jobs, including high government office at least not

Oyler, the family s primary breadwinner. He was the first one to say you can do anything. I ve

workforce not being flexible for women. Nearly three quarters of Americans say having more
women in the workforce has been a change for the better in society and that marriages are more
satisfying when men and women share responsibilities of work and children. But workplaces and
laws have yet to catch up with the realities of family life, says Joan C. Williams,....The American
workplace is still perfectly designed for the workplace of the 1960s, Williams says. It assumes that
you have someone else taking care of all your other family obligations, and that just isn t true

Climate Control And The Greenhouse Effect
The way a greenhouse works is that sunlight shines in and warms up the plants, and some of that
radiation can t exit through the glass forcing the heat to stay in the greenhouse. The UV radiation
comes through the glass walls and warms the plants while weaker IR radiation has trouble getting
through the glass walls so it s trapped in the greenhouse; thus, warming it up (Lallanila, What Is the
Greenhouse Effect? ). Similarly, the Earth has incoming heat that is then trapped, warming up the
surface. It works the same way a greenhouse does hence the name the Greenhouse Effect
(Lallanila, What is the Greenhouse Effect? ). There are a few greenhouse gases that are
responsible for the Greenhouse Effect. Making up 1% of our atmosphere, Carbon Dioxide, Ozone,
Methane, and Water Vapor, act as a blanket that surrounds Earth to help regulate climate control
(Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect Conserve Energy Future. ). The Greenhouse Effect isn
t bad. It actually helps us survive on Earth. Without it, the Earth would be 30 degrees Celsius
lesser which would be too cold (Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect Conserve Energy
Future. ). Some of the heat from the greenhouse gases goes into space, while some of it burns
along the atmosphere, and a small amount of it finds its way into the Earth s surface (Rinkesh.
Causes of the Greenhouse Effect Conserve Energy Future. ). Because of this the Earth s temperature
is raised (Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect

Advantages Of The CAPM Assumption
CAPM Assumptions
The CAPM is often criticized for being unrealistic because of the assumptions on which it is based,
so it is important to be aware of these assumptions and the reasons for criticizing.
The assumptions are the following
пѓ Investors with diversified portfolios
This assumption implies that investors only require a change in the systematic risk of their
portfolios, since unsystematic risk has been removed and can be ignored.
Single period horizon transaction
A standard maintenance period is assumed by the CAPM for comparable yields different values.
One more than six months, for example, can not be compared with a yield of more than 12
months. A holding period of one year is generally used.

If the business risk of the investment project is different from the organization of investment, the
CAPM can be used to calculate a rate discount for a specific project. The procedure for this
calculation was covered in the second article of this series (specific discount rates project, Student
Accountant, April 2008).
The advantage of using a CAPM project Derivatives specific rate of discount is illustrated in
Figure 2 Using the CAPM will lead to better investment decisions than the use of the WACC in the
two shaded areas, which can be represented by the projects A and B.
Project A would be rejected if WACC was used as discount rate, because the internal rate of

however, since the project A would be accepted if a CAPM the discount rate derived for specific

Erik Erikson s Stages Of Psychosocial Development
Current Developmental Stage: According to Erik Erikson s stages of psychosocial development,
Neveah is in middle adolescence, which is focused on the conflict of identity verses role confusion
(Ashford LeCroy, 2010). The developmental characteristics of middle adolescents include sexual
identity, role experimentation, moral development, and self discovery (Ashford LeCroy, 2010).
Adolescents are evaluating how they fit into society and more specifically their social sphere.
During this time, friends, social groups, and cultural trends greatly impact the adolescent.
According to Gibbs (2015), at this stage in development it is critical to be valued and accepted by a
peer group. To evaluate Neveah s stage of development, her ethnicity, immigration, and history of
childhood abuse must be taken into consideration. According to Ashford and LeCroy (2010),
adolescent immigrants face the unique challenge of fulfilling their sense of belonging, while facing
issues of acculturation and minority status. As they seek to develop their own identity, they must
combine the norms, values, and culture of their minority status and the dominant Caucasian culture
(Ashford LeCroy, 2010). Adolescent immigrants face more discrimination as well as are hyper
cognizant of their differences in appearance and language (Ashford LeCroy, 2010). According to
Chicchetti and Toth (1995), child maltreatment effects the development of attachment and affect
regulation. They further state that studies

The Ford And His Creation Of The First Mainstream Car
In this work we look at the past of the motor vehicle. We recognize Henry Ford and his creation
of the first mainstream car. We praise his pricing strategy used to make this car a household
product. We dig to find out which manufacturer brought us the conventional car control layout.
Then we jump ahead to our modern age of cars and look at the ways engineers are finding ways
to replace mechanical systems with electric ones. We then delve into the world of alternative
power methods, primarily the hybrid, hydrogen, and electric options. Lastly we touch base on the
enthusiasts concern that the car scene is dying. For many people cars are just ways of
transportation, a tool to get them from point A to point B. To others they are a way... Show more

Being priced this economically took cars from being toys owned by the more fortunate to tools
for the everyday middle class. Many have gone as far as giving Henry Ford credit for allowing
people to leave their immediate surroundings. The Model T was sold until 1927, ending its run at
an astounding 15 million units sold (Automobiles).
Many would assume then that a car that sold as well as the Model T must have the same layout
as our modern vehicles, but quite the contrary can be found. Top Gear reports that the first motor
vehicle to have a modern layout, with the steering wheel in front of the driver, the gas on the
right, the brake in the center, and the clutch on the left was the Cadillac Type 53 (Top Gear). The
Type 53 had a short run at only one year, but the ideas its engineers presented to the world forever
changed the motor industry. However, this was done not through the sales of the Type 53, as it was
always overshadowed by the Model T and never gained popularity. The layout we have become
accustomed to was noticed by a British company: Austin Motors. Austin took this layout and based
their well selling Austin 7 around it. The Austin 7 then was the first mainstream automobilewith a
modern layout.
The auto market continued to grow at a rapid pace after this. It progressed to the point where at
one time at least one in six jobs were auto related. However, as

Analyse Key Theories Of Conflict Analysis
I aim to analyse key theories which examine the effects of conflict within the workplace. Conflict
is a part of everyday life, as long as we have existed conflict has also. Rahim (2010) defines conflict
as an interactive process manifested in incompatibility, disagreement or dissonance within or
between social entities. However, he expands upon the definition stating debating as to whether the
conflictis caused by the situation or the individuals type of behaviour. This contests the issue of
whether conflict is caused by a particular situation that the employee has experienced or if whether
the behaviourism of the employee is to blame. If organisational conflict is not resolved, several
negative consequences can occur including increased stress among employees, reduced creative
collaboration and team problem solving, disruption to work flow, decreased customer satisfaction,
distrust, split camps, and create gossip amongst the workplace. (Moriarty, 2007).
However, in contrast some academics dispute this, even going as far as suggesting that minor
conflicts can be helpful, and by having the capabilities to deal with conflict ... Show more content

This will allow critical reflection and analysis as to what could be done differently. There are
several key fundamental concepts involved with the unitarist perspective. The first of which is that
it is the duty of the manager to encourage allegiance and commitment amongst the employees of the
firm. (Farnham, 1993). Consequently, as everyone is working towards the same goal a conflict of
interests is unlikely to occur, resulting in harmony amongst the entire workforce. (Leah, 2001).
Conflicts in the organisations are observed as negative and dysfunctional which subsequently lead
to disloyalty, thereby damaging the well being and harmony of the organisation. (Giles,

Isaac s Storm Book Review
Isaac s Storm, is a tale of self confidence. This Hurricane in 1900 in Galveston was the worst and
deadliest hurricane this country has ever seen. About 6,000 people lost their lives and among
those who died was Isaac Cline s wife. I can tell how guilty he must have felt and how horrific this
time was for Cline, especially because he thought a massive storm could never devastate his
amazing city. The horrific events of what happened in Galveston is only partially told in this
book. Erik Larson s use of Cline s own letters and reports show Cline s own self confidence or
pride and falsifies facts that Cline was the hero he believed himself to be after the Storm surfaced.

A Comparison Of Henry Ford s Assembly Line And Model T
Ford s assembly line and Model T
Henry Ford s assembly line and his automobile, the Model T, revolutionized manufacturing and the
development of today s automobiles and engines. The assembly line and Model T caused American
industry to expand and also ushered a new American lifestyle.
The interest Ford had for mechanical and motorized machines started at an early age. He was
born on July 30, 1863 on a farm in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford had five siblings, and his parents
raised them all to be disciplined and healthy children. Ever since Ford was a little kid, he had great
interest in everything that was mechanic, and he would rather work on that over anything,
especially working on his father s farm. Ford had at all times dreamt of becoming ... Show more

Introduced on October 1, 1908, Model T started a whole new era of transportation. The first
Model T to ever be produced was in a factory on Piquette Avenue in Detroit, but the factory was
later moved to Highland Park plant due to the start of mass production of the car. Everyone wanted
the easily operated, easily maintained, and easily manageable car on the rough roads. Everyone
wanted a piece of the vehicle of the future (Schaetzl np). The car reached a top speed of c. 45
miles per hour, got c. 13 to 21 miles per gallon of gasoline, and the weight was only 1,200 pounds
(The Model T np). Ford could not believe how big of a hit his car was, and how much success
the invention had brought him. By 1918, the Model T was so popular that half of the people in
the United States owned one. The Model T was sold for $850 the first year of production, but
Ford was not at all satisfied with the cost of the production, and the fact that not everyone could
afford to buy the car. Ford had a business policy in which he was firm to achieve; lower the cost
per car and thereby increase the volume of the sales (Appleby 369). The request of the Model T
lead to the need of more production space, so Ford figured out that one factory simple was not
enough. In the early 1910s he decided to open the doors to his new company in Michigan, the
Highland Park plant, the Crystal Palace (Ford s Assembly Line np). The opening of the new factory
also led the opportunity to expand in another direction; taking mass production to the next level

Analysis Of Twelve Angry Men By Reginald Rose
Extended Analysis Twelve Angry Men
Justice is a concept that is crucial to a fair and just society. For hundreds of years, countries have
developed constitutions and other documents in place to form justice for those within the country.
In Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose, the idea of justice is bounced around by twelve men on a
jury. These men have the unthinkable decisions of whether a suspected murderer is given the
death penalty or able to walk free. The jury in Twelve Angry Men made the most just decision
they could. To understand how the decision they made was just and to explain some background,
this essay will cover a few major ideas. It will talk about how Reginald Rose included the ideas of:
reasonable doubt, being innocent until proven guilty, the jury system, and public defenders.
Twelve Angry Men touches on one of the key principles of the American criminal justicesystem.
This is the belief of the defendant being innocent until proven guilty. The idea is to give every
person a fair trial that follows the rules set forth in the constitution. In Twelve Angry Men, a
young man is on trial for the murder of his father. Many of the jurors jump to conclusions about
the defendant s guilt because of his lack of wealth and his ethnicity. Several of jurors make
comments similar to these people and kids like this are always up to no good (Rose 24). This
shows an assumption based not on the person, but on a very broad, vague, and stereotypical view.

Brief Summary Of The Movie Big Fish
The movie Big Fish was produced in 2003. Big Fish is about a dying man, Edward, and his son,
Will. The movie consists of several flashbacks following Edward Blooms life and his adventures.
It shows how Edward and his son s relationship was very strained and then how it was resolved in
the end. There were also a great number of fantasy aspects in this movie that make the movie
very unique. These fantasies are mainly in the stories that Edward tells his son. They show how
Edward Bloom lived his life and how he made life choices knowing how he would die. Edward
Bloom and his son s relationship was not very strong. Edward was always out of town because
of his salesman job. When Edward and his son, Will, actually talked Edward would tell his son

The Limitations Of Standardized Testing Essay
The limitations of standardized testing as a rigid and narrow criterion for gauging the educational
capabilities of students in public education. The criterion for standardized testing relies on narrow
areas of knowledge that define a hierarchical imposition of intelligence testing that forces the
student to perform ion a constrained academic environment. This type of testing has become a
mechanized tool to reject the individual needs of the student in a linear testing methodology. The
importance of a more diversified and individual style of educationmust address the talents of the
student in relation to a broader system of education. Therefore, the problem of one size fits all in
standardized testing forces the student to take a test that generalizes educational standards in the
public school system. In essence, an analysis of the individual needs of the student define the
problem of a one size fits all system of standardize testing in modern American school system. The
problem of standardized testing in the American public system is founded on the systemic
generalization of student s intelligence. These tests are often engineered to the student through an
uncreative and linear evaluation of their knowledge base. In this manner, standardized testing only
measures a small range of cognitive and mental capabilities of the student, which often focus on
writing, reading, math, and the sciences: The obsession with raising student standardized testscores

centuries. Some scholars try to establish the starting point based on the discovery of ancient
Chinese ceramics on the east coast of Africa, or to the trading ties begun under the Song dynasty

people tend to have stronger feelings of fidelity towards someone they have known for years, as

Service Quality From Definition to Measurement Introduction In recent years, more and more
companies start to concentrate on the quality of their products. The products could be tangible as
physical goods, or intangible like the service. This article is more about the service product. Since
the service has no tangible form, the service quality is difficult to measure. Businesses want to get
the information about the customers perceptions of the service they provided. Then they need to

Overall, the service quality and consumer satisfaction are fairly relevant. Service quality
measurement Due to the intangibility of service quality, it is very difficult for a firm to know
whether the consumers satisfy their service or not. Although it is difficult to measure service
quality, it is still a development of a multiple item scale for measuring service quality which is
called SERVQUAL (Parasuraman et al. 1988). The SERVQUAL was developed originally based on
the 10 potentially dimensions which revealed by Parasuraman et al. (1985) as access, courtesy,
communication, tangibles, understanding/knowing the customer, responsiveness, reliability,
security, competence, and credibility. But the final dimensions of the SERVQUAL are only five,
tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy (Parasuraman et al. 1988). As the five
dimensions have some relationship with the difficult of measuring service quality. First one is the
tangibles which include the physical facilities, equipment and appearance of personnel that will
affect the service quality by the external environment. Reliability and the other three dimensions
are all the internal effects which relate to the service producer him or herself. These four
dimensions are more difficult to control than the external one which is tangibles. Both of the
expectations of the consumer to the service and perceptions of the provider s performance can be
assessed by the SERVQUAL method (McAlexander

The music business has made much progress since those horrible days of the mono recordings. In

an important part of the operational planning process. KPIs can be broken down by acronym; by
focusing on the importance of each component of a Key Performance Indicator it will become

The conquering North was hoping to, as was said by Abraham Lincoln in his Second Inaugural
Address, bind up the nation s wounds, and obtain, a lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all

accept Blacks as equal citizens, either politically or socially. In late 1865, Southern states began
creating the set of laws that became known as the Black Codes, severely restricting the rights of
the newly freed African Americans living in the South. The degree to which the Black Codes
limited freedom of African Americans would eventually become one of the major motivations for
the passage of first the Civil Rights Act of 1866, and finally, in 1868, the Fourteenth Amendment.
By March of 1866, eight states of the former Confederacy had adopted various laws limiting the

In the twentieth century alone, the world has witnessed oppression in many places, like the
South African apartheid, which literally means apartness (Omond 11). Nadine Gordimer, an
esteemed author and South African native, has lived to see the injustice and conflict her country
has experienced during apartheid rule, which lasted just under a half century. Most of her
literary work throughout the decades of apartheid oppression united under the banner of freedom
for the victims of apartheid. Her books speaking on the dangers and horrors of apartheid, as well as
a call for its dismantling earned her a Nobel Peace Prize for literature in 1991. One of her short
stories, Once upon a Time, published in 1989, creatively depicted many issues... Show more content

The family is living in luxury, ignorant to the chaos erupting outside of their suburb. They
continue to believe that all was well in the world, when the reality was just outside their trimmed
hedges and green lawns. They believe they are safe with their local neighborhood watch plaque
with the words YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED (Gordimer 190) on it, but when the wife exhibits
fear of the colored people, the husband s reply is equally as toxic: there are police and soldiers
and tear gas and guns to keep them away (Gordimer 190 191). A sentence later shows the true
nature of the faulty comfort the husband gives, buses were being burned, cars stoned, and
schoolchildren shot by the police in those quarters out of sight and hearing of the suburb
(Gordimer 191). This only proves to be a foreshadowing of what is to come, and the actions of the
family have direct consequences, in which their former happily ever after turns to chaos because of
their submission to apartheid ignorance. The third irony is presented with the family s hired hands:
they had a housemaid who was absolutely trustworthy and an itinerant gardener who was highly
recommended by the neighbors (Gordimer 190). During apartheid, white South Africans generally
accepted some of the native African peoples as their housemaids and gardeners, only accepting
them if they were responsible and submissive to

Patriotism and Its Meaning Essay
Patriotism and Its Meaning
In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States we are seeing
many forms of Patriotism. I was suprised to find when I researched this word that it had a negative
feeling associated with it. I believe that patriotism is actively showing your support for your
country, standing up for what you believe in, and fighting for our individual free will and
independence.
I am proud of my country and I am not ashamed to fly the American Flag. Many men and women
have died to give me the freedoms that I take for granted. I applaud their patriotism, and I thank
them for giving me my way of life. I will support them in protecting my country. I will try to elect
officials who believe in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hope that you, as an American citizen will learn about your government and actively support it, by
voting, writing your congressmen, and making a difference for peace.
In standing up for what I believe in, I will not be ignorant of other people. I can be assertive in
my beliefs without trying to impose them on my fellow citizens. America stands for diversity and
to have patriotism to her is to believe that all people have a right to believe in thier own system of
values. I do not agree with Emma Goldman, who stated: Patriotism assumes that our globe is
divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who had the fortune of being
born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent then the
living beings inhabited by any other spot. It is therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen
spot to fight, kill and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all others. On the contrary,
patriotism stands for fighting for everyone to have the same freedom that I do.
We did not ask for terrorist to attack our country, but it is our duty to defend her, not blindly as
people would say we do, but earnestly keeping the good of all in mind. Richard Maybury, author
of Early Warning Report, wrote: The only thing I would be willing to die for is my home and
family; I would do what ever it takes to repel an invader, to protect my homeland. When I am
deciding what I think of a U.S. military operation in

Euripides And The Tragical History Of Doctor Faustus, By...
From childhood, all individuals are taught that, whether it be at the hands of one s parents, the
government, or even some form of divine intervention (like karma, or god), there is an
ultimately inescapable judgment that awaits everyone who transgresses against that which is
right or just. Take from the cookie jar before dinner? No TV for a week. Break the law by
stealing from a store, or worse? Spend days, or years, incarcerated. Fail to abide by a number of
seemingly arbitrary moral codes? Spend all of eternity being tormented in a realm of fire after you
die. But despite how deeply the concept of crime and punishment is ingrained in each culture of
each era since the dawn of humankind, there remains an insatiable desire to rebel against the
standards that are upheld by society as right, whether it be for personal worldly gain, out of
academic curiosity, or righteous indignation.
As a people, humanity has long expressed rebellion of thought through the arts, exploring the
taboos of society, and asking questions about why we live as we do, and what the implications
may be, not just for the world, but for our souls. Two such pieces of art are the classic plays Medea,
by Euripides, and The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, by Christopher Marlowe. Though these
two great works couldn t be more different in setting or thematic subject matter (and naturally so,
since they re separated by over 1,000 years), they utilize similar theatrical tropes to explore the
concept of

Similarities Between The Great Gatsby And Atonement
This essay looks at The Great Gatsby written by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Atonement written by Ian
McEwan, and their film adaptations, The Great Gatsby directed by Baz Luhrman and
Atonement directed by Joe Wright. Many film directors that decide to adapt a novel to a film
often change the essence and core message of the original work of the author. According to Paulo
Coelho, the reader has a certain perception about the characters, scenes, and details of the novel.
But when the reader goes to watch the film adaptation, all these perceptions and views are ruined
and the reader often ends up leaving the film feeling disappointed. However, I do not agree that
Joe Wright and Baz Luhrman changed the message of the two novels. To a large extent, I was not
disappointed by the film adaptations of The Great Gatsbyand Atonement. I believe that both film
directors have stayed loyal and faithful to the novel, they did not change my opinion on how I

The valley of Ashes is a piece of wasteland with ashes of the train that carries the wealthy and
upper class to New York. F.Scott Fitzgerald describes the people as of men who move dimly and
already crumbling through the powdery air he gives us an image of the poor people the people
are stuck in the failure of the American dream. They are like the waste of America, and they
cannot move forward. We also get an image of an area filled with dirt, thick air and poverty. In
the film, we see details of this unpleasant place, and we get an image of the type of people who
live there. In the film we immediately see that this farm is a symbol of the failure of the American
dream. Baz Luhrman displays this farmland exactly or even better than what one would imagine. I
was not disappointed and in fact, I got a bigger understanding of what the failure of the American

Hemoglobin Analysis Lab
Introduction: On August 20, a lab was started doing different test involving blood. The objective
of the experiment was to test white blood cells (WBC), red blood cells (RBC), platelet counts,
differential of WBCs, a hematocrit, a hemoglobin analysis, and also various calculated indices.
All the test will indicate if a person s blood levels are normal or if the person has an abnormal
blood count. To explain what blood is, blood is a red liquid that circulates throughout the body. It
also transports oxygen rich blood throughout the body, takes nutrients from specific cells and waste
to be expelled out of the body. The components of blood in relation to the test are as follows. The
blood has two parts the plasma, and the formed elements.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Billy Budd Analysis
Billy Budd is the story of the sailor Billy Budd and his time on the H.M.S Bellipotent during the
last decade of the 18th century, after being impressed from the previous ship he was on The Rights
of Man . He was seen as a handsome sailor , and was loved by his old crew. He was also innocent
to a fault. This man could not see the bador suspicious in someone at all. In the context of this
novel, he was the purest good in this ship, which could also be seen as a microcosm of the world
as it was. Billy as a whole is seen mainly as a man without fault. He could do no wrong in his
world, because he is the personification of all that is good. This makes his one flaw, that being
his stutter, the perfect aspect of his being to show us of the dangers of innocence. The fact that he
cannot bring words out to defend himself against the malice tossed at him because his very being
will not allow him to even comprehend that there are people in the world with such ill intent. Ill
intent does not exist to him, and it ultimately proved to be his undoing. As if almost a flip of a
coin, Claggart can be seen as the complete opposite than that of Billy. An ugly man, in both the
figurative and literal sense, Claggart s innate malice is without cause or limit. While Billy lacks the
awareness of the differences of human actions and the intentions behind them, Claggart knows
these differences all too well. He has a great understanding of deception and ambiguity that he uses
to hide his real

Indentured Servants And African Slaves
As a student of United States history, I have learned new information concerning certain subject
matters. My prior knowledge of US history about these certain topics, such as, indentured servants
and the institution of slavery was minimal. The reason for this is most of my prior knowledge of
these important topics were forgotten. The question I always asked myself what was the difference
between indentured servants and African slaves? Through my personal studying on the subject
matter, I have discovered new information that clarified all my misconceptions about historical
topics like, indentured servants from Europe, African slavery, and finding the similarities and
differences of these two types of labor.
During the 1600s Europe was absorbed in the Thirty Year s War, which depressed the economy at
the time. Many young males skilled and unskilled were looking for work. These young men had
hoped that there might be some prosperity in the New World. These young teenage men were eager
for a grand opportunity in Virginia. However, these new young immigrants coming over to the
American colonies would be considered as indentured servants. In the textbook, American Stories A
History of the United States mentions that, In exchange for transportation across the Atlantic, they
agreed to serve the master for a stated number of years (Brands et al. 37). These young male
indentured servants were in their early twenties. Skilled indentured servants often work for four or

What Is An Unforgettable Experience
An Unforgettable Experience in the Lion City A mind that is stretched by a new experience can
never go back to its old dimensions. These words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly
describe how my travel experience in Singapore this past summer has changed my life. Traveling
to Singapore, or the Lion City, with my family has been a component on my bucket list that I
never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my travel, I had
the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while visiting the
major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with the
Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the beauty of the country. Because of this, my
travel to Singapore has given me an open minded perspective on countries and has broadened my
horizons in terms of travelling to new places. On July 31st, 2017, my trip commenced with a
four hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at seven o clock in the morning. Despite having
woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on sleep, I felt ecstatic that I
finally had an opportunity to visit such a multicultural country. As the airplane began to ascend, I
leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have flown a couple
of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive whenever the plane took off.
However, my nausea soon subsided when the airplane levelled out and the

How Did W. E. B Dubois Impact Society
The Harlem Renaissance was a period in the 1920s when African American achievements in art,
music, and literature flourished. This movement took place in Harlem, New York. During this time
period, lots of influential African American activist arose and aided in the Civil Rights Movement.
The Harlem Renaissance helped to bring the African American community together to form new
ideological thinking, music, and literature. Among one of the many talented artists during this time
was W.E.B DuBois. In my opinion, DuBois helped the African American community become
something more that what society s standard was of them. Also, he is one of the co founders of the
NAACP. Maya Angelou is one of the more modern Civil Rights Activist.

Dubois died on August 27, 1963, one day before Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his I Have a
Dream speech. One of my favorite quotes from Dubois is Progress in human affairs is more often
a pull than a push, surging forward of the exceptional man, and the lifting of his duller brethren
slowly and painfully to his vantage ground. Maya Angelou died on May 28, 2014, at her home in
Winston Salem, North Carolina. W.E.B. Dubois and Maya Angelou worked for the equality of
African Americans and women. Through the Harlem Renaissance to the Modern day, this man and
woman have had similar challenges, ideas, and successes. Angelou and DuBois have excelled in
fighting for what they believe

  • 2. Analysis Of Volkswagens Leadership Differs From Other... External Analysis A.Macro Environment 1.Cultural Trends Volkswagens leadership differs from other German car makers in that their supervisory board which governs over the executive board also includes local politicians (maybe a key factor in their recent scandal). The other major auto makers in Germany all have supervisory boards as well but they are in place primarily to govern the executives and look out for the interests of the shareholders. This being said the two politicians are looking out for the best interest of the local workers and executives, so between them and the eight local people elected to the supervisory board it gives them an overwhelming majority in votes that may have a negative impact on the production of vehicles there. Their work culture is a demanding pace with expectations set high for management and workers alike. Although they have a policy in place to allow workers to voice their concerns about the cars or subsystems that is generally not the case as far as the executive level goes with many directors and managers fearing for their jobs if anything subpar is brought up.(1) 2.Demographic Trends Over the past fifteen years Volkswagenhas set about to redefine their target audience in car buyers to the more environmentally conscious consumer. This came about during a time when they had acquired the Audi, Porsche, and Bentley lines of cars. Having those available as an income stream allowed VW execs to gamble with the environmental movement going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Worst Flood Of The Mississippi River Basin In 1993, the Midwest experienced the worst flood in American history affecting ten states in the Upper Mississippi River basin. The flooding lasted from late spring to fall, killing fifty two people and damaging a 100,000 homes and businesses. The cause of the flooding was a heavy winter with lots of snow and a spring season full of rain, which saturated the soil. Instead, of a hot summer, the rain kept coming and the Upper Mississippi RiverBasin received three and a half times its normal rain. Since it continuously rained, the water levels kept rising and many of the levees broke. The water levels stayed high for weeks destroying towns and agriculture all throughout the Midwest. One of the main issues leading up to the flood of 1993 was the failed communication and partnership between local, state, and federal governments. The federal government is in charge of floodplain management instead of the local and state government, which prevents local governments becoming involved. This form of management flaw became revealed by the amount of damage the flood made. The reason the damage was so devastating and so many people lost their homes and businesses is because the federal government failed to understand the Executive Order of 1977 and permitted building in the flood plains. Some examples of the EO being understood are a low income housing project funded by HUD and a federally funded state prison within floodplains, and a proposed construction of a federal weather ... Well, there are three main reasons. The first reason being the opportunity for monetary gain to better their future. In Ganttageep s article, Exotic Dancing: Illusion and Fantasy, An Exotic Dancers Path to Power , he shows this desire for money in this following quote, When asked why they got into the world of exotic dancing many women state that money is the main reason, (Ganttageep.) She also told me that she didn t like to strip, I hate it, but I don t really have a choice, (See Appendix I.), and only did it as a temporary means of quick money. Then Tiffany proceeded to tell me in our interview that many girls who are strippers are people who have become addicted to the money, You get addicted to the money, ( I believed that she was quite a valid source of information because she has worked at around five to six strip clubs, varying from holes in the ground to upscale gentlemen s clubs. She seemed like a great person. She was nothing like what the media and society portray strippers to be, which is a dirty women with loose or no morals or self respect. In the news article published by BBC News the following was said, Morals are loose as it is and frankly I just want to enjoy a drink without looking at another one of England s problems dancing in my face, (BBC News.) This quote shows peoples negative views on the topic of stripping. If you saw her on the streets you would never guess what she did for a profession. From what I have found, especially in the older generations, a majority of society have never been to a strip club, they just look down upon this industry as one that is dirty and a fountain of ... In between those trenches was an area known as no man s land and was the most dangerous place to be. This tactic lead to many standoffs and also extremely high numbers of casualties in a short period of time. One of the most efficient ways of winning these battles was chemical warfare. All that needed to happen was to throw a chemical bomb into the enemy s trench and then wait. Another of the famous tactics was called Blitzkrieg . This was a German tactic first used in Poland with little success and then used with more success in Belgium later on. What made Blitzkrieg so successful was how it was done. • 9. The Origins Of Computer Science The origins of computers date back to the mid 1900s. During the creation, the binary code of zeros and ones was formulated as a basic foundation of what computers can run off of. This code was used to communicate to a computer and manipulate it to assess whatever tasks need to be dealt with. As more of these problems arose, the communication between computers and humans became more complicated. Computers began growing more in fame and need. Computerengineers were faced with a problem as to how to make the connection between man and machine less complicated, thus computer languages were formed. They created a higher level language system, one that was much easier for programmers to work with compared to the binary code . Through the years, these languages developed with the complexity of computers themselves. The world was beginning to see just how important computers were for everyday life, and the need for the people who work with them were equally as needed. To justify the argument of the computer science field increasing, we must first talk about the origin of computer science itself. Before the 1840 s, no one was thinking about programming or rather the concept of, a program as a series of instructions controlling the operation of a general purpose computer (Haigh). However, according to Where Code Comes From: Architectures of Automatic Control from Babbage to Algol by Thomas Haigh and Mark Priestley, Charles Babbage was the first to really tackle this programming ... However, as it condensed, there were fewer droplets. As the droplets got bigger, they would rain down in the jar as precipitation due to gravity. Then, the cycle repeated, as shown by the graph. Another cycle that must have been in the jar for life to survive was the carbon and oxygen cycle. In order for the organisms to access new oxygen after the initial air was trapped in the jar, producers supplied the animals with oxygen, seen as bubbles in the algae throughout the observation period. This process of harnessing nuclear energy is a highly controversial topic with many pros and cons. • 14. The Dual Language Program Essay Essay As a little girl in preschool, I was constantly getting in trouble for talking. The teacher would move me away from my friends, but I would end up making new friends and getting in trouble all over again. I was the type who could talk to anyone. I was not afraid of asking questions or starting conversations. Even language barriers were not a problem for me. In kindergarten, there was a boy who sat next to me in class. He did not speak any English and I did not speak any Spanish but that could not stop me. Every day I would go home and ask my mom What does this mean or How do you say this? I loved meeting new people and no obstacle could stand in my way from doing just that. Since I had such an interest in Spanish, my mother enrolled me in the dual language program when I entered the first grade. I struggled at the beginning only knowing a few Spanish phrases but I caught on very quickly. By wintertime the mothers of the other children were not only surprised that I was speaking Spanish but I had the other kids speaking English. Somewhere down the line in elementary school I lost the ability to communicate. My vocal chords were physically intact but what happened to me was a social and mental issue. That talkative little girl was suddenly shut into a dark room for a reason she was too young to understand. To Slaughter having it all meant what type of job she had, but according to her she soon realized that, having it all was not possible in many types of jobs, including high government office at least not for very long. He was the first one to say you can do anything. I ve got your back. Go for it, she says. Nearly three quarters of Americans say having more women in the workforce has been a change for the better in society and that marriages are more satisfying when men and women share responsibilities of work and children. But workplaces and laws have yet to catch up with the realities of family life, says Joan C. • 18. Climate Control And The Greenhouse Effect The way a greenhouse works is that sunlight shines in and warms up the plants, and some of that radiation can t exit through the glass forcing the heat to stay in the greenhouse. The UV radiation comes through the glass walls and warms the plants while weaker IR radiation has trouble getting through the glass walls so it s trapped in the greenhouse; thus, warming it up (Lallanila, What Is the Greenhouse Effect? ). Similarly, the Earth has incoming heat that is then trapped, warming up the surface. It works the same way a greenhouse does hence the name the Greenhouse Effect (Lallanila, What is the Greenhouse Effect? ). There are a few greenhouse gases that are responsible for the Greenhouse Effect. Making up 1% of our atmosphere, Carbon Dioxide, Ozone, Methane, and Water Vapor, act as a blanket that surrounds Earth to help regulate climate control (Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect Conserve Energy Future. ). The Greenhouse Effect isn t bad. It actually helps us survive on Earth. Without it, the Earth would be 30 degrees Celsius lesser which would be too cold (Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect Conserve Energy Future. ). Some of the heat from the greenhouse gases goes into space, while some of it burns along the atmosphere, and a small amount of it finds its way into the Earth s surface (Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect Conserve Energy Future. ). Because of this the Earth s temperature is raised (Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Erik Erikson s Stages Of Psychosocial Development Current Developmental Stage: According to Erik Erikson s stages of psychosocial development, Neveah is in middle adolescence, which is focused on the conflict of identity verses role confusion (Ashford LeCroy, 2010). The developmental characteristics of middle adolescents include sexual identity, role experimentation, moral development, and self discovery (Ashford LeCroy, 2010). Adolescents are evaluating how they fit into society and more specifically their social sphere. During this time, friends, social groups, and cultural trends greatly impact the adolescent. According to Gibbs (2015), at this stage in development it is critical to be valued and accepted by a peer group. To evaluate Neveah s stage of development, her ethnicity, immigration, and history of childhood abuse must be taken into consideration. According to Ashford and LeCroy (2010), adolescent immigrants face the unique challenge of fulfilling their sense of belonging, while facing issues of acculturation and minority status. As they seek to develop their own identity, they must combine the norms, values, and culture of their minority status and the dominant Caucasian culture (Ashford LeCroy, 2010). Adolescent immigrants face more discrimination as well as are hyper cognizant of their differences in appearance and language (Ashford LeCroy, 2010). This contests the issue of whether conflict is caused by a particular situation that the employee has experienced or if whether the behaviourism of the employee is to blame. If organisational conflict is not resolved, several negative consequences can occur including increased stress among employees, reduced creative collaboration and team problem solving, disruption to work flow, decreased customer satisfaction, distrust, split camps, and create gossip amongst the workplace. The car reached a top speed of c. 45 miles per hour, got c. 13 to 21 miles per gallon of gasoline, and the weight was only 1,200 pounds (The Model T np). For hundreds of years, countries have developed constitutions and other documents in place to form justice for those within the country. In Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose, the idea of justice is bounced around by twelve men on a jury. These men have the unthinkable decisions of whether a suspected murderer is given the death penalty or able to walk free. The jury in Twelve Angry Men made the most just decision they could. To understand how the decision they made was just and to explain some background, this essay will cover a few major ideas. It will talk about how Reginald Rose included the ideas of: reasonable doubt, being innocent until proven guilty, the jury system, and public defenders. Twelve Angry Men touches on one of the key principles of the American criminal justicesystem. This is the belief of the defendant being innocent until proven guilty. The idea is to give every person a fair trial that follows the rules set forth in the constitution. In Twelve Angry Men, a young man is on trial for the murder of his father. Many of the jurors jump to conclusions about the defendant s guilt because of his lack of wealth and his ethnicity. The criterion for standardized testing relies on narrow areas of knowledge that define a hierarchical imposition of intelligence testing that forces the student to perform ion a constrained academic environment. This type of testing has become a mechanized tool to reject the individual needs of the student in a linear testing methodology. The importance of a more diversified and individual style of educationmust address the talents of the student in relation to a broader system of education. But the final dimensions of the SERVQUAL are only five, tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy (Parasuraman et al. 1988). As the five dimensions have some relationship with the difficult of measuring service quality. First one is the tangibles which include the physical facilities, equipment and appearance of personnel that will affect the service quality by the external environment. Reliability and the other three dimensions are all the internal effects which relate to the service producer him or herself. These four dimensions are more difficult to control than the external one which is tangibles. Both of the expectations of the consumer to the service and perceptions of the provider s performance can be assessed by the SERVQUAL method (McAlexander ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of the operational plan is to focus on shorter term objectives usually within 1 up to 3 years. The importance of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution is such that some have called it the amendment that completed the Constitution. When it was ratified on July 9th, 1868, the amendment became one of legislative cornerstones of the Reconstruction Era, a time in which the Radical Republicans, led by John A. Bingham and Thaddeus Stevens, promulgated a legislative program focused on providing racial equality before the law. Among the laws passed in the Reconstruction Era, the Fourteenth Amendment was one of the most controversial, with one Republican congressman, Representative A.J. The conquering North was hoping to, as was said by Abraham Lincoln in his Second Inaugural Address, bind up the nation s wounds, and obtain, a lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations. However, the South, while it had been forced to discontinue slavery, was not prepared to accept Blacks as equal citizens, either politically or socially. In late 1865, Southern states began creating the set of laws that became known as the Black Codes, severely restricting the rights of the newly freed African Americans living in the South. The degree to which the Black Codes limited freedom of African Americans would eventually become one of the major motivations for the passage of first the Civil Rights Act of 1866, and finally, in 1868, the Fourteenth Amendment. By March of 1866, eight states of the former Confederacy had adopted various laws limiting the freedoms of African Americans. In the Slaughterhouse Cases (1873), some of the first Supreme Court cases to deal with the Fourteenth Amendment, the opinion of Justice Samuel F. Miller provided a listing of the rights that had been abridged under the Black Codes: [African Americans] were in some states forbidden to appear in the towns in any other character than menial servants. They were required to reside on and cultivate the soil without the right to purchase or own it. They were excluded from many occupations...and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Nadine Gordimer on South Africa In the twentieth century alone, the world has witnessed oppression in many places, like the South African apartheid, which literally means apartness (Omond 11). Nadine Gordimer, an esteemed author and South African native, has lived to see the injustice and conflict her country has experienced during apartheid rule, which lasted just under a half century. Most of her literary work throughout the decades of apartheid oppression united under the banner of freedom for the victims of apartheid. Her books speaking on the dangers and horrors of apartheid, as well as a call for its dismantling earned her a Nobel Peace Prize for literature in 1991. One of her short stories, Once upon a Time, published in 1989, creatively depicted many issues... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The family is living in luxury, ignorant to the chaos erupting outside of their suburb. They continue to believe that all was well in the world, when the reality was just outside their trimmed hedges and green lawns. They believe they are safe with their local neighborhood watch plaque with the words YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED (Gordimer 190) on it, but when the wife exhibits fear of the colored people, the husband s reply is equally as toxic: there are police and soldiers and tear gas and guns to keep them away (Gordimer 190 191). A sentence later shows the true nature of the faulty comfort the husband gives, buses were being burned, cars stoned, and schoolchildren shot by the police in those quarters out of sight and hearing of the suburb (Gordimer 191). This only proves to be a foreshadowing of what is to come, and the actions of the family have direct consequences, in which their former happily ever after turns to chaos because of their submission to apartheid ignorance. The third irony is presented with the family s hired hands: they had a housemaid who was absolutely trustworthy and an itinerant gardener who was highly recommended by the neighbors (Gordimer 190). During apartheid, white South Africans generally accepted some of the native African peoples as their housemaids and gardeners, only accepting them if they were responsible and submissive to ... • 40. Patriotism and Its Meaning Essay Patriotism and Its Meaning In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States we are seeing many forms of Patriotism. I was suprised to find when I researched this word that it had a negative feeling associated with it. I believe that patriotism is actively showing your support for your country, standing up for what you believe in, and fighting for our individual free will and independence. I am proud of my country and I am not ashamed to fly the American Flag. Many men and women have died to give me the freedoms that I take for granted. I hope that you, as an American citizen will learn about your government and actively support it, by voting, writing your congressmen, and making a difference for peace. In standing up for what I believe in, I will not be ignorant of other people. I can be assertive in my beliefs without trying to impose them on my fellow citizens. America stands for diversity and to have patriotism to her is to believe that all people have a right to believe in thier own system of values. I do not agree with Emma Goldman, who stated: Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who had the fortune of being born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent then the living beings inhabited by any other spot. It is therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all others. On the contrary, patriotism stands for fighting for everyone to have the same freedom that I do. We did not ask for terrorist to attack our country, but it is our duty to defend her, not blindly as people would say we do, but earnestly keeping the good of all in mind. Richard Maybury, author of Early Warning Report, wrote: The only thing I would be willing to die for is my home and family; I would do what ever it takes to repel an invader, to protect my homeland. • 41. Euripides And The Tragical History Of Doctor Faustus, By... From childhood, all individuals are taught that, whether it be at the hands of one s parents, the government, or even some form of divine intervention (like karma, or god), there is an ultimately inescapable judgment that awaits everyone who transgresses against that which is right or just. Take from the cookie jar before dinner? No TV for a week. Break the law by stealing from a store, or worse? Spend days, or years, incarcerated. Fail to abide by a number of seemingly arbitrary moral codes? Spend all of eternity being tormented in a realm of fire after you die. But despite how deeply the concept of crime and punishment is ingrained in each culture of each era since the dawn of humankind, there remains an insatiable desire to rebel against the standards that are upheld by society as right, whether it be for personal worldly gain, out of academic curiosity, or righteous indignation. As a people, humanity has long expressed rebellion of thought through the arts, exploring the taboos of society, and asking questions about why we live as we do, and what the implications may be, not just for the world, but for our souls. Two such pieces of art are the classic plays Medea, by Euripides, and The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, by Christopher Marlowe. Though these two great works couldn t be more different in setting or thematic subject matter (and naturally so, since they re separated by over 1,000 years), they utilize similar theatrical tropes to explore the concept of ... Many film directors that decide to adapt a novel to a film often change the essence and core message of the original work of the author. According to Paulo Coelho, the reader has a certain perception about the characters, scenes, and details of the novel. But when the reader goes to watch the film adaptation, all these perceptions and views are ruined and the reader often ends up leaving the film feeling disappointed. However, I do not agree that Joe Wright and Baz Luhrman changed the message of the two novels. To a large extent, I was not disappointed by the film adaptations of The Great Gatsbyand Atonement. He was seen as a handsome sailor , and was loved by his old crew. He was also innocent to a fault. This man could not see the bador suspicious in someone at all. In the context of this novel, he was the purest good in this ship, which could also be seen as a microcosm of the world as it was. Billy as a whole is seen mainly as a man without fault. He could do no wrong in his world, because he is the personification of all that is good. This makes his one flaw, that being his stutter, the perfect aspect of his being to show us of the dangers of innocence. The fact that he cannot bring words out to defend himself against the malice tossed at him because his very being will not allow him to even comprehend that there are people in the world with such ill intent. Ill intent does not exist to him, and it ultimately proved to be his undoing. As if almost a flip of a coin, Claggart can be seen as the complete opposite than that of Billy. An ugly man, in both the figurative and literal sense, Claggart s innate malice is without cause or limit. These words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly describe how my travel experience in Singapore this past summer has changed my life. Through my travel, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while visiting the major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with the Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the beauty of the country.
