Hesiod s versions of the Prometheus/Pandora story and the book of Genesis s story
of Eve s act of eating the forbidden fruit both introduce a female figure whose
actions are connected with the seeming introduction of evil into the world. At first
glance, it appears that the Genesis story is more compelling than Hesiod s account
at explaining the origin of evil because its monotheistic structure makes the logic
behind the evils far more clear and straightforward than Hesiod s logic. The act of
disobedience by Eve seems fully her own fault while God(Yahweh) is faultless.
However, Genesis is too simple because the story of Prometheus/Pandora is far more
complex. The Hesiod story of Prometheus/Pandora is more compelling than Genesis
because the conflict allowed disputes between the gods in its polytheistic worldview
rather than one god making Hesiod more compelling at explaining the evils of the
world.
In order to make this argument, this paper consist of three parts. The first part will
argue why Genesis is seen as the most compelling text due to its simplicity and
logic. The second part will examine Hesiod s Prometheus/Pandora story to prove that
the complexity makes a logical statement of why the evils in the world came to be.
The final part will be counter argument which states that Genesis might be more
compelling at explaining the evils of the world because it demonstrates both divine
and mortal choices.

Background
Pornography is a multi billion dollar industry and approximately 40 million people
visit pornography websites yearly (Logue, 2015; DeAngelis, 2007). Public
computers allow pornographic websites to be easily accessed unless there is a filter
to block the content (The Economist, 2015). Approximately half of public libraries
nationwide use filters on their public computers (Light, 2008). The ability to access
pornographic content through the use of public library computers has been a concern
to many San JosГ© residents.
On October 24, 2007, Councilmember Pete Constant asked for a policy that would
install filters on library public access computers in order to reduce or eliminate
children from viewing lewd material (Light, 2008). On April 21, 2009, City Council
rejected spending the money for the technology required to implement the use of
filters. The Council voted 7 3 to approve a reminder system for users, which would
state exposing children to pornography is illegal (Woolfolk, 2009). Despite the
rejection to use filters, in 2014 Jill Bourne revisited the idea by discussing how the
filtering programs have evolved. Bourne planned to test two new programs,
Websense and SquidGuard, which cost a fraction of what they would five years prior

The major cause of mass incarceration in the United States is Bail. Recently there
are several reforms that were passed, and there are several proposals under
consideration to fix this issue. A lot of people that are incarcerated toady committed
low offense charges. Hence, we need a fairer, and more effective justice system so
that more people could walk free rather than being locked up. With that said, bail is
used today as an entrapment, which opposed its original purpose. Most importantly,
of the people that are in jail, 60 percent haven t been convicted of anything. As we
can see, mass incarceration makes our country worsted off, and we need to do
something about it.

Just because someone is standing up for what is right does not mean they will
always be well liked or they will fit in with everyone. If someone stands up for what
is right and everyone else disagrees with them there may be some serious
consequences. In The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, Tessie Hutchinson spoke against
their tradition, nobody would listen to her but she still spoke against it. She tried
and tried, no matter how difficult it was, to get into the townspeople s mind that
they should not be doing what they are doing, that it is wrong. Some people are
not as brave as Tessie Hutchinson, Martin Niemoller, for example, had the chance
to speak up against the Nazi, he had the chance to speak for what is right, instead he

when you do not know what the consequences are, whether you ll get hurt or teased
or whether somebody else will.
