Greece s Victory In The Greco-Persian War
Victory is not achieved unless there is the desire for success, compromise, and occasional conflict.
In the David versus Goliath scenario, the Greeks as the underdog, defeated the Persians due to
their support, heroic action and Unity. For support, the Greeks relied on the words of Apollo to
guide them, but the he did not always act encouragingly. The Persian Wars put the Greeks in the
difficult position of having to defend their country against a vast empire with an army that greatly
outnumbered their own. The Greeks defeated the Persians in the Persian Wars due to heroic actions
performed by Athens and Sparta and occasional assistance from the gods. The threat of the Persian

This alarmed the Greeks, so they joined and took a chance with their lives keeping in mind the
end goal to protect the one thing they all have in common, their Greek culture. Amazing Bible
Timeline stated, the Persians had come to power under King Cyrus the Great, and they had
conquered many kingdoms, empires, and city states. The reach of the Persian Empire spread far
and wide across the ancient world. They conquered territories in the east as far as India and
conquered lands in the west that stretched all the way to Egypt. In the time of their conquest and
expansion the Persians wanted to conquer the Greeks ( Greek and Persian Wars ). The Persians
were getting close to Greek territory and Athens and Sparta needed to find a common ground so
they could be productive and defeat Persia. The Greeks united together to keep their culture alive.
They wanted to make sure the Persians were stopped from gaining to much land or else they
would be a higher power. All in all, the greek city states compromised to find a war tactic that
could defeat Persia, this is one of the compromises they had to make because they all had to have

Africans prepared youths to work on Europeans farms.
1.2.2 Post colonial education in Kenya (Neocolonialism)
Sifuna and Otiende (1992) noted that racial segregation was abolished in 1960 as the country
moved closer to independence. With the attainment of independence on 12th December, 1963; a
ministry of education was created. The school system in Kenya was brought under a localized
standard curriculum and public examinations. Since independence, the Government has addressed
challenges facing the education sector through Commissions, Committees and Taskforces.
The first Commission, after independence, came up with the Report of the Kenya Education
Commission (The Ominde Report, 1964) that sought to reform the education system inherited from
the colonial government to make it more responsive to the needs of independent Kenya. The
Commission proposed an education system that would foster national unity and the creation of
sufficient human capital for national development. Sessional Paper No: 10 of 1965 on African

Discrimination Model of Supervision
Discrimination Model of Supervision
By: Nashetta Rowell
Ethics in Counselor Education and Supervision
June 25, 2011
School counseling is a complex and demanding component of the counseling profession. With an
increase of social and emotional stressors, children and youth of today face numerous challenges.
These challenges ultimately affect children in school. With an increase of suicides, drug abuse,
gang involvement, and violence amongst youth, a high demand for school counseling supervision
is needed (Henderson, 1994). Parents and teachers often turn to school counselors for guidance in
helping troubled youth. Effective supervision is a benefit for novice as well as experienced ... Show

These four domains are identified by the American School Counselor Association as the key
components of an effective comprehensive school counseling program. Implementation of the
discrimination model of supervision begins with the incorporation of the four domains of the
comprehensive school counseling program. First, the supervisor identifies which of the four
domains or a combination of domains will be the focus of supervision. When examining the three
major areas of focus of the discrimination model, an additional set of skills are reviewed as it relates
to intervention, conceptualization, and personalization skills (Luke Bernard, 2006). When
observing the use of intervention skills in counseling and consultation; classroom guidance skills,
conduction of a needs assessment, and the ability to coordinate initiatives for staff would be
additional focus during supervision. Similarly, conceptualization skills would include the
supervisee s understanding of the relationship among various activities conducted by school
counselors, planning a school wide function, deciding which components would be most helpful for
a career day, developing a plan for evaluation of services, and choosing a developmentally
appropriate classroom intervention. Finally, supervisee personalization skills would include how
novice school counselors conduct themselves in a variety of contexts that is not

Rhetorical Reading Essay(Revision)
Since they started pouring the concrete for the dam Lake Powell has been a center of controversy.
From nature preservationists to ancient ruins advocates the subject has been heated and intense. On
the other hand, those who support Lake Powell are just as avid and active in their defense of the
reservoir. One of the former, Edward Abbey, sets forth his plea, hoping it does not fall upon deaf
ears.
Abbey attempts in his article to help the reader visualize Glen Canyon before it was dammed up.
He uses a lot of pathos to help the reader feel the beauty of the previous Glen Canyon and the
ugliness of the present. His article seems to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These effects are perfectly normal when working with a reservoir and as he points out are not
permanent. Sodden garbage strewn about, dead trees, sunken boats, the skeletons of long
forgotten, decomposing water skiers; (147) These are all attempts to bring the reservoir in a
negative light but these do not come from the reservoir but from careless patrons and the
inevitable accidents. If the number of people who visited Lake Powell visited the former Glen
Canyon area, the garbage and deaths and other negative aspects would be at the same ratio because
some humans are simply careless and draining a reservoir is not going to change that.
Often times Abbey tries to appeal to our emotions through connotation and metaphors by creating
a picture perfect image of what Glen Canyons used to be like with its varied flora and fauna and
beautiful landscape. Unfortunately this attempt is flawed because anyone who has ever been to
Lake Powell or seen pictures knows that it is equally as beautiful as and maybe even more so than
the common river and surrounding landscape scene.
Abbey employs a great use of sentence structure and connotations when refuting the claim that Lake
Powell is the most beautiful reservoir in the world. Certainly it has a photogenic backdrop of buttes
and mesas, projecting above the expansive surface of stagnant waters where the speedboats,
houseboats and cabin cruisers play. But

Control The Azimuth Angle Of An Anti Aircraft Gun
Abstract: The goal of this project is to control the azimuth angle of an anti aircraft gun. Anti
aircraft gun is a type of counter measure gear used to fire tracer rounds to the hostile aircraft. It is
a fixed ground gun system which can rotate in azimuth as well as in horizon. It can track the tail
of an airship and hunt it down. The first effective anti aircraft gun was used in world war I. But,
the most drawback was that, it was human controlled thus human casualties was high. To dominate
over the battlefield and reduce the human casualties an automated anti aircraft gun system is a
must. In Bangladesh military the artillery division uses Type 55/Type 65/Type 75 anti aircraft
gun, but they all are human controlled. So, this project can help developing automated anti aircraft
gun that can be used for Bangladesh military and they can keep pace with the other warlords.
Introduction: The anti aircraft gun system can sense the location of the hostile object which is at
rest or in motion. The exact location or trajectory is fed to the system every time until the gun
nose is along the enemy tail. So, there should be a continuous sensing feedback mechanism.
According to sensor input the actuator will act to the desired position. During an air assault it is
very dangerous for a soldier to operate the countermeasure gear. One hand he has to keep tracking
the airship, other hand he needs to keep himself alive from enemy fire. This will distract him from
aiming the ship accurately.

LAB 11: Performing a Web Site and Database Attack by Exploiting Identified Vulnerabilities
1.Why is it critical to perform a penetration test on a Web application and a Web server prior to
production implementation?
Essentially, performing a penetration test on a web application or web server, prior to
implementation, is critical to exposing and/or correcting any existing security flaws. In fact, such
penetration testing is critical to ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) of a
given web application or service. Also, penetration testing should be performed on a regular basis,
or whenever a given web application or service is modified, in order to detect any possible security
vulnerabilities and/or flaws.
2.What is a cross site scripting attack? Explain in your own words.
Simply put, cross site scripting refers to the malicious injection of scripting code, into a given
web server or application, in order to exploit or extract information and/or data, or even modify
the contents of the targeted web server or application. Regarding cross site scripting, cross site
scripting attacks utilize the process of cross site scripting, and may be classified into two
categories: persistent, or stored, and non persistent, or reflective.
3.What is a reflective cross site scripting attack?

Generally speaking, an employer can search an employee s desk or work area without expecting
any legal repercussions. The desk is property of the employer, therefore the employee should not

USB Flash Drives are also sometimes used as encryption keys for encryption tools such as
BitLocker Drive Encryption (Microsoft, 2015). To collect and transport as evidence, place the USB
Flash Drive into a static shock protective bag (U.S. Dept of Homeland Security, U.S. Secret
Service, 2007). Document any make, model, or serial number designations on the device. The
hard drive on the desk would be a good third source of digital evidence to seize. Assuming this
hard drive is used for additional storage (i.e. does not have an Operating System on it), it would
contain data similar to that which would ve been on the USB Flash Drive: documents, images,
videos, and maybe even some software files. Documentation should be done on the make, model,
serial number and type (e.g. SATA, IDE, SCSI) of hard drive. For transportation, again, place into a
static shock protective bag. Remember to keep the hard drive away from anything magnetic as the
platters that are inside the hard drive are magnetically charged (U.S. Department of Justice, 2008).

How Bipolar Is Caused By A Person
This paper is explaining how bipolar is caused, how to know if individuals have bipolar, how the
disorder in a person can affect others around them, along with examples and facts about the mood
disorder.
Bipolar can be caused by negative thinking and by a person thinking negative things about
themselves. There is a person who I know that can hardly think positive; this person is filled with
hate and hope others fail because, the person is miserable. Dopamine, serotonin, and also
norepinephrine are brain chemicals that can affect a person s mood. The person I know does not
want to get checked out but I feel there may be a few brain chemicals that are messed up. In
addition, the disorder can be caused by genes. The person I have been ... Show more content on

Some of the signs and symptoms of the disorder are constant mood changes, restlessness,
paranoia, aggressiveness, having unlimited energy, irritability, remaining inactive, seeming a
little awkward or weird to others, rapid speech, and being delusional. I feel people with bipolar
impact their friends and family in a negative way. For example, there is a girl named Molly. Molly
gets mad at Holly for no big reason. Holly gets upset because Molly is mad. Later on, Molly then
becomes really depressed that Holly is upset. Holly feels bad because she sees Molly crying.
Dealing with people who constantly change emotions can be tiring and confusing. The most
difficult part is dealing with random moods at random times. There is one person I know who
blame anything on everyone but this person feels like they do no wrong and that they are
perfect. This person takes time out their day to think of a whole scenario to make a problem
seem like it was caused by the other person. This person is always suspicious of other people and
cannot trust them at all; the person feels like everyone is up to something or doing something
bad behind this person s back. There is another person I know who gets really depressed, they feel
like life is not worth living, this person gets depressed too easily. All this person need is someone
positive to talk with. Once the person feels better, everything is fine. The repeating

Erik Homberger Erikson s Life Of The Lakota And The Yurok
Erik Homberger Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfort, Germany. Erikson was born to
his Jewish mother Karla Abrahamsen, and his biological father who was an unnamed Danish
man who abandoned him before he was born. During his school years, he studied art and
different languages instead of chemistry and biology. When he graduated he was interested in
becoming an artist. During the 1920 s he decided to travel Europe, where he had to sleep under
bridges. After traveling around Europe for a year, he decided to enroll in an art school back in
Germany. He stayed at the art school for several years. Then he began to teach art and other
subjects to American children who came to Vienna for Freudian training. Erikson was admitted
to the Vienna Psychoanalytic Institute. In 1933 he moved to Boston, where he filled a position
at Harvard medical school as America s first child analyst. While he taught at Yale and Berkley,
he did his famous studies on the modern life of the Lakota and the Yurok. Erikson is known for
being a prolific writer. He has wrote many books and essays such as Childhood and Society
(1950), Youngman Luther (1958), Youth: change and challenge (1963), Etc. Erikson went on to
teach at a clinic in Massachusetts then back to Harvard before he retired in 1970. In 1994 Erikson
passed away at the age of 92. Erikson s main contribution to psychology was his developmental
theory. He developed eight psychosocial stages of development and believed that each stage

Turing s Historiography
At this point it is worth exploring why Turing s posthumous image has only been fully
reconstructed and promoted mostly after 1989. There are wider factors in public history at work
than the mere difficulty of obtaining sources. Some of the major barriers to Turing s renaissance
during the second wave of heroism can be reckoned from historiography and context. Indeed these
major reasons for obscurity are sometimes a point of reference for commentators highlighting
present day Britain s moral superiority over the past in recognising his heroic greatness, as Peter
Tatchell has argued. 1
The changing fortunes of LGBT minorities in Britain are complex beyond full summary here.
However, certain developments have played a significant part in suppressing ... Show more content

7 The twentieth century British public demonstrated a fundamental dislike of homosexuality when
polled until relatively late. 8 This attitude has undergone a dramatic reversal over the last fifteen
years, marked by David Cameron s apology for the act in 201X. 9 10 It is also worth noting that
structural initiatives in historiography did not exist as mainstays of public history until recently.
For example, LGBT History Month only emerged in 1994, mostly as the result of American
activism in academia. Amidst a more general liberal malaise over historical and current
homophobia, it can be seen that the current promotion of Turing is, in part, a politicised attempt to
atone for what is now mostly seen as an embarrassing, cruel mistake.
Divorced from disapproval of his personal life, security concerns have been an extremely negative
factor in blocking promotion of Turing. This can be demonstrated through both the evidence above
and the comparable fortunes of his collages. It took until 19XX for Dilly Knox to receive his first
biographical volume, in which X marketed him as yet another forgotten hero .11 Similarly, the first
documentary to argue that Gordon Welchman was unfairly overlooked as a heroic mathematician
due to the NSA and Margaret Thatcher only aired in September 2015.

Beach Descriptive Essay
After lazily waking up, my family and I head to the beach to enjoy the brisk day. It s only around
seventy five degrees, but that doesn t falter our excitement for the beach. The sun shines through
the clouds as we head down to pick a spot. The waves are calm and inviting as we lay our stuff
down. The wind is moving through the beachgrass like a quiet whisper. The seagulls caw, and
attempt to steal the snacks we brought. There s some kids playing in the water, but more are
playing in the sand since the water s so cold. Days like this are quite typical at the beach in Hilton
Head, South Carolina.
In Hilton Head, near Coligny Beach, the small village where we stay is quite somnolent. It
seems like no one is ever awake before 9am. In the center of the sleepy town there s a Piggly
Wiggly. Everyone goes in there to get their groceries and beach supplies. Next to it there s an ice
cream shop, the Frozen Moo, which has some of the best ice cream I ve ever had. The shop has
at least ninety different flavors from Apple Pie to Rainbow Sherbet. There s a mural on the wall
of cows surfing at the beach with brightly colored chairs and tables; going along with the cow
theme, there s even a life size replica of a cow that they dress up for holidays. When walking into
the town center, the beach is right across from it. The smell of the ocean air and breeze coming
through the town almost hypothesizes you to move towards the waves. Since it s fairly cold in the
morning, no one is ever there.

In result, this meant that the hypothesis bottled water will be harder than tap water as it comes
from naturally occurring springs is incorrect as the results from the experiment prove that tap
water is harder than bottled water. However, the hypothesis may still have a chance to be correct
as there were many sources of error that was present in the investigation. For example, the
amount of Erichrome Black T indicator that was added to the flask was slightly varied on each
test. The bottle of the indicator was incredibly hard to use as the pressure from squeezing the
bottle had to be precise each time. If the indicator bottle was squeezed too hard, a lot more of the
indicator will come out rather than the desired amount of two drops. The impact of adding too
many drops of the indicator is very large as it affects the titration point. Possible ways to
minimise this error includes getting a smaller bottle of the indicator with a smaller hole at the tip,
so that the indicator will not rush out all at once. Another source of error that was present in the
investigation was rinsing the flasks between use. For example, the team members will rinse out the
flask after testing it into the sink and then rinsing the insides with distilled water. However, it was
difficult to dry the insides, so when reusing the flask, there may be extra residue of distilled water

The History and Culture of the Cherokee Civilization Essay...
Introduction
The Cherokee, a very large tribe, lived in the region of the Smokey Appalachians Mountains. The
Cherokee were forced to relocate to the Appalachian Mountains after they were defeated at war by
the Delaware. The tribe was divided into seven clans. The tribe s men were not allowed to marry
within there tribes, this was a great taboo in the Cherokee society. The seven tribes inhabited North
and South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia and Georgia. Once the man married he left his

Rhythm of the Seasons
The Cherokee people were not time conscious they did not have specified time for rituals and
ceremonies. However, despite their laid back nature, the Cherokee people had fours seasons
(Perdue 3). Each of the four seasons represented different rituals and ceremonies. The first
season was winter; it was associated with cold and sadness. It was symbolized by the color blue.
Winter belonged to the north. Spring which has its heritage in the East is represented by the color
red. Spring time symbolized victory. It was a new beginning occasioned by warm weather
festivities and merry making. Summer was time for happiness where every thing was peaceful and
serene. There was plenty of harvest during this season. Summer was symbolized by the color white,
the color of peace. Finally autumn which was the end of the cycle symbolized death. Autumn was
symbolized by the color black, the color of death. During autumn the Cherokee people did not
engage in many festivities each household remained isolated.
Gender Roles
According to Perdue (135), in the Cherokee community women were associated with the bounty
that comes from the earth. The women were mostly concerned with cultivation of land and
ensuring that there families had enough crop to sustain them even during dry seasons. The women
could take up leadership just like there male counter parts. The leadership positions

Advantages Of Representative Democracy
Representative democracy is a modified version of our government now. It is a type of
democracy founded on the principle of elected officials representing a group of people, as
opposed to direct democracy. This is very similar to what goes on now because of the two parties
and the election. The Greeks came up with the representative government as a solution for the
direct democracy. The democratic democracy was a form of governmentwhere all eligible citizens
had to vote for every issue. It was very impractical because the minority would have no say in
this due to the fact that everyone is voting. With everyone voting this makes the cost go up and
corruption would still occur. This was a problem because imagine having to vote on every single
issue and in a country as big as the U.S. it certainly wouldn t work. This is why the representative
democracywas a better fit than the direct democracy.
Conservatism is an ideology of representative democracy. They believe in a lot of different things
such as personal responsibility, a limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional
American values, and a strong national defense. They also think the government s role should be
to provide people with freedom necessary for them to achieve their own goals. Conservative
policies generally want the individual to solve their own problems. A free market produces more

The joint liability could cause issues for both parties if there were more tax liabilities or an audit
was found in the IRS s favor. When a joint return is filed personal exemptions are allowed for both
spouses and exemptions for dependents can be claimed for all dependents.
The other option afforded to the Ouray s is to file separately as a married couple. Filing
separately can be advantages under special circumstances. However, if the couple was to file
separately, there are several restrictions. First being, that if one spouse cannot demonstrate more
than one half of a child s support is provided by them, a multiple support agreement must be filed.
Next, if one taxpayer itemizes their deductions they must both take itemized deduction and same
goes if one person takes a standard deduction, the other must as well. If filing status was to be
separate, neither spouse can claim the earned income credit and the credit for child and dependent
care expenses. Next, no deduction is allowed for the interest paid on educations loans, and only
$1,500 of excess capital losses can be claimed by each person.
From a tax planning perspective, more details would have to be known about the Ouray s

Bertrand Delanoe, Mayor of Paris.
(Quoted shortly after the inauguration of the VГ©lib system, July 2007.)
According to his inauguration, the VГ©lib system appoints the need of both personalized and
mobility and low carbon solutions for urban transport passenger system. The main modal for this
system is to provide low environments that reduce the impact of mobility service for large cities
and urban centers. For this application, VГ©lib use Cyclocity as the basic ideas to be user friendly
as possible.
The main components of the system are the bike, the stations where they are attached and the
software that can track the bikes journey and the rental time of each journey made. One of the
common rationales cited by bike programs is that they provide an effective substitute for at least
some of the large numbers of short distance trips made by cars in urban areas, often with only one
person in the car. Such trips make poor use of scarce public resources, and of course carry with
them a heavy environmental burden.
If many passengers tend to use private vehicle, this objective cannot be achieved. However Paris
has been established as one of the country that

The old man, who had been yelping and jumping sideways at every blow, spinning and cowering,

Gonorrhe Sexually Transmitted Infection
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection that can infect both men and women equally. The
infection is found most commonly within the youth between ages fifteen and twenty four years old.
It can cause infections to the throat, male and female genitalia, and the rectum. Gonorrhea can be
spread through sexual contact. Oral, anal, and vaginal sex are all ways to be infected if one was to
have unprotected sex with another person.
A woman who is pregnant and becomes infected with gonorrhea can possibly infect her child if not
treated promptly. The infection can be transferred to the offspring through childbirth. One can avoid
contracting gonorrhea or any other sexually transmitted infection by not having sex and remaining
abstinent. Other ways to avoid contracting the infection are by remaining in a monogamous
relationship with a partner who has also been tested and is sure not to have the infection. One other
way is to use a latex condom properly each time one engages in sexual intercourse. ... Show more

Debating Gender Inequality In The United States
Summary The article discussed the debate between governor Romney and President Obama. The
article brought out how both candidates focused on womens labor as a family issue. The sociology
aspect of gender discrimination and workplace inequality is emphasized as well. The author states
at the latter part of the article that: both candidates need to be better informed on the complex
factors that produce workplace inequality (Debating GenderWorkplace Inequality).
Overview
One of the unsettled issues when it comes to gender workplace inequality has to do with education.

The Importance Of Earbuds
Did you know, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, An estimated 12.5% of
children and adolescents aged 6 19 years (approximately 5.2 million) and 17% of adults aged 20
69 years (approximately 26 million) have suffered permanent damage to their hearing from
excessive exposure to noise. ? An increase in noise induced hearing loss has raised concerns about
the safety of earbuds. Many people are currently debating whether to ban earbuds to solve the
issue. Earbuds damage hearing and should be banned. They put adolescents at risk of noise
induced hearing loss, they reach dangerously high noise levels, and hearing problems caused as
a result of them negatively affect a person s life. Furthermore, earbuds are putting adolescents at
risk of noise induced hearing loss. For example, A report released earlier this year by the World
Health Organization (WHO) says that 1.1 billion teens and young adults worldwide are at risk
of hearing loss... one main reason is the use of personal audio devices such as iPods, with
earbuds or headphones (What Did You Say?, 4). In other words, as a result of earbuds,
adolescents are at a risk of noise induced hearing loss. Many adolescents use earbuds for long
periods of time or listen to music at high volume levels without knowing that they are gradually
hurting their ears and putting themselves at risk of hearing damage. Furthermore, ...as personal

How Did Roman Architecture Influence Greek Architecture
The Romans continued the legacy left by the early greek architects. They favored the Greek column
called the corinthia. Roman architecture is a combination of their own ideas and Greek
architecture. Greece was their main influence. The Romans had architecture based on greek
architecture, used it in their bath houses, and used different materials for different buildings
Temples in Rome were a combination of Etruscan and Greek models of inner cella (chambers) at
the back of the building which was on a raised platform surrounded by columns with steps leading
to it. The inner chella was the focal point of the temple. The columns used were corinthian columns.

reaching the bathing rooms, the water was heated by a log fire. It was split into two sections: a
part for men and a part for women. The women typically got the smaller set of rooms. In the bath

Should Sports And The Athletes From A Financial Perspective
To Pay or Not to Pay Athletics have always been a huge part of my life. For as long as I can
remember I have been throwing a ball, catching a ball, racing, competing, you name it. This led
me to so many great opportunities in my life. I played on a state championship football team in
high school, I had the opportunity to play college football, and I formed relationships that will
no doubt last me a lifetime. So yes, it is near and dear to my heart. Thus, I pay serious attention
to things that often go on in the world of sports, some that are more important than others. The
hot button issue when it comes to college athletics today is the relationship between the schools
and the athletes from a financial perspective. When I first started hearing about it, I can honestly
say that I did not know too much about the subject. There are a lot of economics and business
concepts and terms that were a foreign language to me. As I continued to research, I became
fascinated with both sides of this issue which have credible arguments. On one side of it, there
are pundits who will be the first to say we should not pay these athletes for a myriad of reasons
that I will go into as I progress. The other side says that the current system is nothing short of
exploitation on the highest level that these athletes are not being properly compensated for what
they endure day in and day out. This is a delicate issue that is becoming more and more of a focal
point throughout the country. The myth

What Is Vietnamese American Culture
This week s reading, Jonathan Lee s Vietnamese in America (pages 128 to 138) in History of Asian

psychology, the guilt for losing the Vietnam War which fueled humanitarian efforts to help
displaced refugees, mitigated the resettlement of first wave refugees. The US government allocated
generous aid and instituted programs and policies in order to assist first wave refugees with their

The Actions of Heme-Group Containing Mammalian Peroxidase...
Heme group containing mammalian peroxidase enzymes possess a highly conserved structure
and partake in reactions associated with the development of inflammatory diseases, defense
system of the host as well as the biogenesis of hormones (PГ©terfi et al., 2009)(Cheng, Salerno,
Cao, Pagano, Lambeth, 2008). The heme binding sites of peroxidase enzymes possess specific
features that are preserved as well as characteristics including disulphide bonds forming between
cysteine residues, a binding site for calcium as well as specific amino acidresidues which interact
with the side chains present on the heme propionate (Chengreference). In the presence of
hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), these enzymes catalyse the oxidation of a range of substrates
(PГ©terfi et al., 2009). In order to stabilise the extracellular matrix (ECM) of lower animal
species as well as plants, peroxidases enzymatically catalyse the cross linkage of these
extracellular proteins through the formation of dityrosine bridges using H2O2 (PГ©terfi et al.,
2009). The family of mammalian peroxidases consists of myeloperoxidase, eosinophil peroxidase
and lactoperoxidase (which are involved in the defense system of the host) as well as thyroid
peroxidase (involved in the biogenesis of thyroid hormones) and the mammalian peroxidasin
(PXDN) (PГ©terfi et al., 2009).

The Role of the Narrator in Poe s Ligeia
A widower who has suffered the loss of his beautiful, beloved, and entirely idealized wife, Ligeia,
narrates Edgar Allen Poe s short story of the same name. Soon after Ligeia s death, the narrator
enters into an unfulfilling marriage with the Lady Rowena. The narrative concludes with Rowena s
death and what vaguely appears to be the resurrection of Ligeia. Poe s short story may typically be
read as a ghost story , in which the dead Ligeia s will to live overcomes death with its sheer
power; however, the narrator, throughout the story, demonstrates that he is almost entirely unable
to tell reality from fantasy, and functions primarily in the schizoid position (Schueller 601) as
evidenced by his use of many a psychological defense mechanism hallucinates that Ligeia kills
Rowena then returns from the dead. In this interpretation, the narrator s own will for Ligeia s life
is expressed through his fantasy, which is enhanced by his heavy use of opium. Using this
interpretation, it can not be the will of Ligeia that brings her back to life, but rather the narrator s
own extreme mental illness. Although the story Ligeia appears at first glance to be about the
power of the eponymous character s will to live, the story s primary focus actually lies in the
narrator, and through his psychological breakdown the true heart of the story is born. A reasonable
assumption is that the

The Whig Interpretation Of History Essay
History may be examined and interpreted in many different ways. This is because there is little
evidence that had survived to go by in which historians have to use to study the past. Evidence,
written and made by the historical people themselves, include but are not limited to written
documents, such as books and letters, and material culture, as in art and architecture. Now, because
the original authors or artists are not alive to tell the story, historians have to examine the evidence
left behind to make an educated judgment on what had really happened in the past. This judgment
or argument is always incomplete and up for revision as more evidence is found as time passes by.
Although many conclusions can be generated from one piece of evidence, arguments can be biased,
leading to different, possibly incorrect, views of history. In his essay, The Whig Interpretation of
History, Herbert Butterfieldelaborates on the matter that many historians tend to write on the behalf
on a Protestant or Whig point of view when researching about history. The argument he has
provided in his essay states that the whig interpretation of history relates to the act of abstracting
[ideas and events] from their historical context and judging them apart from their context estimating
them and organizing the historical story by a system of direct reference to the present (Butterfield
30). To Butterfield, studying the past in the eyes of the present is one of the biggest errors a historian

Classical Imagery in Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
The romance of history has lured many of the world s greatest authors to search for their subject
matter in the pages of time. William Shakespeare serves as a unfailing embodiment of the emotion
of days past; yet he also turned to those before him. The comedy Much Ado About Nothing is a
poignant love story, riddled with stunning imagery and allusion. An examination of the development
of certain characters, the imagery and allusion, diction, and structure illustrate that the author wrote
in a style heavily influenced by the classical movement of Ancient Greece and Rome. The classical
thread strengthens the tapestry which is Much Ado About Nothing.

The play was written in 1598 during the reign of Elizabeth I of England. The following statement
certainly rings true of William Shakespeare:
English authors in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries made extensive use of classical
mythology, in drama and narrative poems, as ornaments in lyric poetry, and by means of
mythological allusion in prose and verse works.1
The mythology of Ancient Greece and Rome appears in the characterization, imagery, allusion, and
theme of this play. The references to the classical period are both bold and subtle as Shakespeare
weaves them into the work.
The opening scene immediately sets the stage as well as introduces the characters and their
relationships, thus allowing the playwright to ply his stylistic trade.
Shakespeare uses a subtle ploy: the setting of the scene is Italy, which was the very heart of the
classical world. Messina seems to exist as a peaceful town, nestled in nature. The pastoral setting is
characteristic of the Renaissance movement which itself was a return to the classical glorification
of nature. As the play unravels, it becomes evident that many conventions were selected due to their
specifically classical undertones.
The beginning is reminiscent of the epic genre: the first scene starts in medias res with the
announcement of Don Pedro s triumph in battle. The epic style is characterised as possessing a
hero of great national or even cosmic importance, a setting ample in scale,

Our Constitution was written to be the backbone of our government but with the task it s given not

Change comes whether we like it or not and amendments are set in place to govern what the

Amendments are the process of formally altering or adding to a document. The Constitution

Essay on compare and contrast visions and values
In this essay I will aim to compare and contrast two case studies in terms of the visions and
values of health they demonstrate. To do this I will look at the examples of the case studies we
have looked at, these were of Brain and Samuel both have type 2 diabetes with similar age and
their own set of life stresses. This will draw on the contrasts between the biomedical model and the
social model within healthcare. The biomedical model is focused on the body, not the person. The
Social model is focused on the person as a whole and letting the individual self manage their
condition.

When we look at both case studies provided, we start to see that both promote two different types ...

Brian has now been told by the doctor he needs to monitor his blood sugar levels for the next
month in which he can t do on his own. So, he could also feel an increase in severity of his
condition as he s taking more medication and will have to come back in a months time.
Samuel is offered support to help him self manage his condition and his doctor offering him
leaflets and information about groups and offered him to go see the nurse about self care
routines and healthy eating. He leaves the surgery feeling relived, supported and free of concern
after talking to his GP. Brian leaves feeling worried, he feels he should have mentioned his move
to the doctor but he feels as though his GP is authoritative and his feelings are irrelevant. He
knows he has no support from the nurses until two weeks time when he moves in and feels
pressure for his blood sugar levels to improve otherwise he will have to get insilin injections. As we
can see the approaches from the doctors leaves the patient feeling differently when leaving the
surgery.
Brain s case study demonstrates he was being treated using the Biomedical model. This is
considered to be the dominant and the modern way for health care professionals to diagnose and
treat a condition in most Western cultures but It does not account for psychological factors that
could have a role in the illness. In

Network Security
EET 5720
Daljot Rai
Have you ever surfed the web and received a popup alerting you a threat is detected? If so, you
are not alone. This is a very common issue web browsers and organizations face. In order to
resolve or prevent such issues, it is key to learn about the security of your network. Network
security is the protection of networks that help secure files and directories of a computer. It helps
protect the user from hackers, virus attacks, misuse and prevents unauthorized access. The
importance of learning and becoming aware of network security is important for protecting yourself
and others around you. I will be discussing the common type of attacks, methods to protect your
computer from harm and discuss what the future may hold for network security.
There are many attacks that can be associated with network security, eavesdropping, viruses
/malware and Trojans, phishing, IP spoofing attackand lastly denial of service. Eavesdropping, has
two subcategories passive and active. Passive eavesdropping refers to someone listening to a
phone call, or reading a chat email (Daya, Bhavya). Active eavesdropping refers to the hacker
physically going in and distressing the conversation (Daya, Bhavya). This type of attack allows the
hacker to steal confidential information. In this circumstance, it is important to have some sort of
network security because having someone listening in on a personal conversation can be
detrimental. This can be solved

sugar. Melt in your mouth delicious! (Reeni). They are definitely a delicious breakfast treat that
can also be served as a dessert. The problem with these Strawberry Nutella French Toast Roll Ups
is that they are way too easy to make (Nagi). Many people do not know how to make/ cook these
amazing treats; this will take them through a step by step process on how to make easy, fast, and
delicious French toast rolls that are stuffed with Nutella and Strawberries
Before anyone starts preparing anything, one must gather all the ingredients and cooking utensils.
These items will be needed; stove, metal or iron pan, and measuring spoons. Twelve slices of
regular sandwich bread, Nutella, sliced strawberries (small pieces), two eggs, three tablespoons of
milk, dash of vanilla, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the butter is melted and bubbling, the cook is going to dip each roll into the egg mixture,
coating completely and then he will place them straight into the pan, seam side down and just
keep going with the rest. Let them cook for a few minutes or until golden brown, making sure to
turn them so they brown on all sides. When fully cooked, remove the rolls from the frying pan.
Last but not least, they are going to roll each of the Nutella rolls in the cinnamon sugar until
completely covered with sugar. They can be served plain, or with syrup.
That is how to make strawberry Nutella French toast rolls. They are a delightful treat anytime.
Delicious breakfast, dessert or even snack. Passing this recipe is exciting, once people feel
comfortable with this recipe, they can change it, maybe not use strawberries but they will use
bananas instead. Most important thing, is that everybody will enjoy these quick and tasty Nutella

Video Games Scapegoat
Are video games the modern day scapegoat for violent behavior among youths? Christopher
Ferguson states that video games have become the newest in a long line of scapegoats,
explanations rely on weak social science... In past centuries, a variety of art forms have taken
blame for societies problems. From religious text, to literature, to jazz, to rock n roll, and rap...
People have viewed various forms of media as being responsible for personal failings (Ferguson
2007). These statements show that society has also had a tendency to blame their shortcomings on
whatever seems to be the newest thing to arise in popular culture, and that no real evidence has
been found to prove a correlation between aggressionand video games. In his argument Ferguson

Lily Owens Quotes
Sue Monk Kidd has introduced very complex, yet simple characters that can be easily related to
by many readers of the novel. Rosaleen has a tough exterior, but truly cares for Lily Owens, as
T.Ray Owens is unpleasant, and considered to be abusive toward Lily. Further on, we have
Zachary Taylor, a handsome, charismatic football player while working for August in her honey
house develops feelings for Lily, as there s June Boatright with a heart of gold, yet is distrusting
in regards to Lily at first. These character are just a few of the many that entail the plot, and make
them relatable. Although, like I said Sue Monk Kidd has developed many character that we can
relate to, I believe I relate to Lily Owens the most in The Secret Life of Bees. ... Show more content

She is expressed as dealing with teenage problems if I do say so myself a lot of issues that most
teenagers have: identity, popularity, self consciousness, and parental issues. The 14 year old
throughout her story feels a deep sense of longing for her mother as she did not know her, because
she died when Lily was only 4 years old. In Chapter 1, Lily talks about how she misses her
mother, and how she feels completely responsible for the fact that she doesn t have her. This
quote, This is what I know about myself. She was all I wanted. And I took her away, is significant
to the whole plot, because it helps us understand one of Lily s main concerns and desires. I myself
have lost a parent at a very young age, and struggled to comprehend what happened, and how it
would effect me through the course of my life. Lily Owens notices that she does not fit and is
held back from that fact that her father does not care about Lily s life nor her needs. In Chapter
1, Lily indicates that she is ..worried so much about how I [she] looked and whether I [she] was
doing things right, I [she] felt half the time I [she] was impersonating a girl instead of really being

Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory
Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory and Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory are two well
known theories of personality development with various similarities and differences. While
Erikson was influenced by Freud s ideas, his theory differed in a number of important ways and
was ultimately created to be an improvement to Freud s personality development theory
(Friedman Schustack, 2012). Like Freud s psychosexual theory, Erikson agreed that personality
progresses in a sequence of predetermined phases. However, unlike Freud s theory of
psychosexual stages, Erikson s theory describes the impact of social experience across the
whole lifespan (Hoare, 2005). According to Freud s psychosexual theory, personality develops
across 5 sexual stages while Erikson s develops among 8 social stages. Freud s theory has fewer
stages due to his belief that the last stage of identity develops during adolescence, while Erikson s
theory had more stages because he believed an individual s identity continually evolved over their
entire lifetime (Hoare, 2005). The 5 stages of Freud s theory: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency and
Genital, will be discussed, compared and contrasted with Erikson s 8 stages: Trust vs. Mistrust,
Autonomy vs. Doubt, Initiative vs. Guilt, Industry vs. Inferiority, Identity vs. Role Confusion,
Intimacy vs. Isolation, Generativity vs. Stagnation, and Integrity vs. Despair (Passer, Smith,
Atkinson, Mitchell Muir, 2011). Each stage in Erikson s theory involves a

In the David versus Goliath scenario, the Greeks as the underdog, defeated the Persians due to their support, heroic action and Unity. For support, the Greeks relied on the words of Apollo to guide them, but the he did not always act encouragingly. The Persian Wars put the Greeks in the difficult position of having to defend their country against a vast empire with an army that greatly outnumbered their own. Discrimination Model of Supervision Discrimination Model of Supervision By: Nashetta Rowell Ethics in Counselor Education and Supervision June 25, 2011 School counseling is a complex and demanding component of the counseling profession. With an increase of social and emotional stressors, children and youth of today face numerous challenges. These challenges ultimately affect children in school. With an increase of suicides, drug abuse, gang involvement, and violence amongst youth, a high demand for school counseling supervision is needed (Henderson, 1994). When examining the three major areas of focus of the discrimination model, an additional set of skills are reviewed as it relates to intervention, conceptualization, and personalization skills (Luke Bernard, 2006). When observing the use of intervention skills in counseling and consultation; classroom guidance skills, conduction of a needs assessment, and the ability to coordinate initiatives for staff would be additional focus during supervision. Similarly, conceptualization skills would include the supervisee s understanding of the relationship among various activities conducted by school counselors, planning a school wide function, deciding which components would be most helpful for a career day, developing a plan for evaluation of services, and choosing a developmentally appropriate classroom intervention. From nature preservationists to ancient ruins advocates the subject has been heated and intense. On the other hand, those who support Lake Powell are just as avid and active in their defense of the reservoir. One of the former, Edward Abbey, sets forth his plea, hoping it does not fall upon deaf ears. Abbey attempts in his article to help the reader visualize Glen Canyon before it was dammed up. These effects are perfectly normal when working with a reservoir and as he points out are not permanent. Sodden garbage strewn about, dead trees, sunken boats, the skeletons of long forgotten, decomposing water skiers; (147) These are all attempts to bring the reservoir in a negative light but these do not come from the reservoir but from careless patrons and the inevitable accidents. If the number of people who visited Lake Powell visited the former Glen Canyon area, the garbage and deaths and other negative aspects would be at the same ratio because some humans are simply careless and draining a reservoir is not going to change that. Often times Abbey tries to appeal to our emotions through connotation and metaphors by creating a picture perfect image of what Glen Canyons used to be like with its varied flora and fauna and beautiful landscape. Unfortunately this attempt is flawed because anyone who has ever been to Lake Powell or seen pictures knows that it is equally as beautiful as and maybe even more so than the common river and surrounding landscape scene. Abbey employs a great use of sentence structure and connotations when refuting the claim that Lake Powell is the most beautiful reservoir in the world. Certainly it has a photogenic backdrop of buttes and mesas, projecting above the expansive surface of stagnant waters where the speedboats, houseboats and cabin cruisers play. But ... • 7. Control The Azimuth Angle Of An Anti Aircraft Gun Abstract: The goal of this project is to control the azimuth angle of an anti aircraft gun. Anti aircraft gun is a type of counter measure gear used to fire tracer rounds to the hostile aircraft. It is a fixed ground gun system which can rotate in azimuth as well as in horizon. It can track the tail of an airship and hunt it down. The first effective anti aircraft gun was used in world war I. But, the most drawback was that, it was human controlled thus human casualties was high. To dominate over the battlefield and reduce the human casualties an automated anti aircraft gun system is a must. In Bangladesh military the artillery division uses Type 55/Type 65/Type 75 anti aircraft gun, but they all are human controlled. So, this project can help developing automated anti aircraft gun that can be used for Bangladesh military and they can keep pace with the other warlords. Introduction: The anti aircraft gun system can sense the location of the hostile object which is at rest or in motion. The exact location or trajectory is fed to the system every time until the gun nose is along the enemy tail. So, there should be a continuous sensing feedback mechanism. According to sensor input the actuator will act to the desired position. During an air assault it is very dangerous for a soldier to operate the countermeasure gear. One hand he has to keep tracking the airship, other hand he needs to keep himself alive from enemy fire. This will distract him from aiming the ship accurately. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essentially, performing a penetration test on a web application or web server, prior to implementation, is critical to exposing and/or correcting any existing security flaws. In fact, such penetration testing is critical to ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) of a given web application or service. Also, penetration testing should be performed on a regular basis, or whenever a given web application or service is modified, in order to detect any possible security vulnerabilities and/or flaws. 2.What is a cross site scripting attack? Bipolar can be caused by negative thinking and by a person thinking negative things about themselves. Dopamine, serotonin, and also norepinephrine are brain chemicals that can affect a person s mood. Holly gets upset because Molly is mad. Later on, Molly then becomes really depressed that Holly is upset. Holly feels bad because she sees Molly crying. Dealing with people who constantly change emotions can be tiring and confusing. The most difficult part is dealing with random moods at random times. There is one person I know who blame anything on everyone but this person feels like they do no wrong and that they are perfect. This person takes time out their day to think of a whole scenario to make a problem seem like it was caused by the other person. This person is always suspicious of other people and cannot trust them at all; the person feels like everyone is up to something or doing something bad behind this person s back. There is another person I know who gets really depressed, they feel like life is not worth living, this person gets depressed too easily. All this person need is someone positive to talk with. • 12. Turing s Historiography At this point it is worth exploring why Turing s posthumous image has only been fully reconstructed and promoted mostly after 1989. There are wider factors in public history at work than the mere difficulty of obtaining sources. Some of the major barriers to Turing s renaissance during the second wave of heroism can be reckoned from historiography and context. Indeed these major reasons for obscurity are sometimes a point of reference for commentators highlighting present day Britain s moral superiority over the past in recognising his heroic greatness, as Peter Tatchell has argued. 1 The changing fortunes of LGBT minorities in Britain are complex beyond full summary here. However, certain developments have played a significant part in suppressing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 7 The twentieth century British public demonstrated a fundamental dislike of homosexuality when polled until relatively late. 8 This attitude has undergone a dramatic reversal over the last fifteen years, marked by David Cameron s apology for the act in 201X. 9 10 It is also worth noting that structural initiatives in historiography did not exist as mainstays of public history until recently. For example, LGBT History Month only emerged in 1994, mostly as the result of American activism in academia. Amidst a more general liberal malaise over historical and current homophobia, it can be seen that the current promotion of Turing is, in part, a politicised attempt to atone for what is now mostly seen as an embarrassing, cruel mistake. Divorced from disapproval of his personal life, security concerns have been an extremely negative factor in blocking promotion of Turing. This can be demonstrated through both the evidence above and the comparable fortunes of his collages. It took until 19XX for Dilly Knox to receive his first biographical volume, in which X marketed him as yet another forgotten hero .11 Similarly, the first documentary to argue that Gordon Welchman was unfairly overlooked as a heroic mathematician due to the NSA and Margaret Thatcher only aired in September 2015. ... It s only around seventy five degrees, but that doesn t falter our excitement for the beach. The sun shines through the clouds as we head down to pick a spot. The waves are calm and inviting as we lay our stuff down. The wind is moving through the beachgrass like a quiet whisper. The seagulls caw, and attempt to steal the snacks we brought. There s some kids playing in the water, but more are playing in the sand since the water s so cold. Days like this are quite typical at the beach in Hilton Head, South Carolina. In Hilton Head, near Coligny Beach, the small village where we stay is quite somnolent. It seems like no one is ever awake before 9am. In the center of the sleepy town there s a Piggly Wiggly. Everyone goes in there to get their groceries and beach supplies. Next to it there s an ice cream shop, the Frozen Moo, which has some of the best ice cream I ve ever had. The shop has at least ninety different flavors from Apple Pie to Rainbow Sherbet. There s a mural on the wall of cows surfing at the beach with brightly colored chairs and tables; going along with the cow theme, there s even a life size replica of a cow that they dress up for holidays. In result, this meant that the hypothesis bottled water will be harder than tap water as it comes from naturally occurring springs is incorrect as the results from the experiment prove that tap water is harder than bottled water. However, the hypothesis may still have a chance to be correct as there were many sources of error that was present in the investigation. For example, the amount of Erichrome Black T indicator that was added to the flask was slightly varied on each test. The bottle of the indicator was incredibly hard to use as the pressure from squeezing the bottle had to be precise each time. If the indicator bottle was squeezed too hard, a lot more of the indicator will come out rather than the desired amount of two drops. The impact of adding too many drops of the indicator is very large as it affects the titration point. Possible ways to minimise this error includes getting a smaller bottle of the indicator with a smaller hole at the tip, so that the indicator will not rush out all at once. Another source of error that was present in the investigation was rinsing the flasks between use. For example, the team members will rinse out the flask after testing it into the sink and then rinsing the insides with distilled water. However, it was difficult to dry the insides, so when reusing the flask, there may be extra residue of distilled water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Advantages Of Representative Democracy Representative democracy is a modified version of our government now. It is a type of democracy founded on the principle of elected officials representing a group of people, as opposed to direct democracy. This is very similar to what goes on now because of the two parties and the election. The Greeks came up with the representative government as a solution for the direct democracy. The democratic democracy was a form of governmentwhere all eligible citizens had to vote for every issue. It was very impractical because the minority would have no say in this due to the fact that everyone is voting. With everyone voting this makes the cost go up and corruption would still occur. This was a problem because imagine having to vote on every single issue and in a country as big as the U.S. it certainly wouldn t work. This is why the representative democracywas a better fit than the direct democracy. Conservatism is an ideology of representative democracy. They believe in a lot of different things such as personal responsibility, a limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. Gonorrhea can be spread through sexual contact. Oral, anal, and vaginal sex are all ways to be infected if one was to have unprotected sex with another person. For as long as I can remember I have been throwing a ball, catching a ball, racing, competing, you name it. This led me to so many great opportunities in my life. I played on a state championship football team in high school, I had the opportunity to play college football, and I formed relationships that will no doubt last me a lifetime. So yes, it is near and dear to my heart. Thus, I pay serious attention to things that often go on in the world of sports, some that are more important than others. The hot button issue when it comes to college athletics today is the relationship between the schools and the athletes from a financial perspective. When I first started hearing about it, I can honestly say that I did not know too much about the subject. There are a lot of economics and business concepts and terms that were a foreign language to me. As I continued to research, I became fascinated with both sides of this issue which have credible arguments. On one side of it, there are pundits who will be the first to say we should not pay these athletes for a myriad of reasons that I will go into as I progress. The other side says that the current system is nothing short of exploitation on the highest level that these athletes are not being properly compensated for what they endure day in and day out. Heme group containing mammalian peroxidase enzymes possess a highly conserved structure and partake in reactions associated with the development of inflammatory diseases, defense system of the host as well as the biogenesis of hormones (PГ©terfi et al., 2009)(Cheng, Salerno, Cao, Pagano, Lambeth, 2008). The heme binding sites of peroxidase enzymes possess specific features that are preserved as well as characteristics including disulphide bonds forming between cysteine residues, a binding site for calcium as well as specific amino acidresidues which interact with the side chains present on the heme propionate (Chengreference). In the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), these enzymes catalyse the oxidation of a range of substrates (PГ©terfi et al., 2009). In order to stabilise the extracellular matrix (ECM) of lower animal species as well as plants, peroxidases enzymatically catalyse the cross linkage of these extracellular proteins through the formation of dityrosine bridges using H2O2 (PГ©terfi et al., 2009). Charles Jenkin Prof. Vogtman ENG 205 11 December 2016 The Role of the Narrator in Poe s Ligeia A widower who has suffered the loss of his beautiful, beloved, and entirely idealized wife, Ligeia, narrates Edgar Allen Poe s short story of the same name. Soon after Ligeia s death, the narrator enters into an unfulfilling marriage with the Lady Rowena. The narrative concludes with Rowena s death and what vaguely appears to be the resurrection of Ligeia. Poe s short story may typically be read as a ghost story , in which the dead Ligeia s will to live overcomes death with its sheer power; however, the narrator, throughout the story, demonstrates that he is almost entirely unable to tell reality from fantasy, and functions primarily in the schizoid position (Schueller 601) as evidenced by his use of many a psychological defense mechanism hallucinates that Ligeia kills Rowena then returns from the dead. In this interpretation, the narrator s own will for Ligeia s life is expressed through his fantasy, which is enhanced by his heavy use of opium. Using this interpretation, it can not be the will of Ligeia that brings her back to life, but rather the narrator s own extreme mental illness. Although the story Ligeia appears at first glance to be about the power of the eponymous character s will to live, the story s primary focus actually lies in the narrator, and through his psychological breakdown the true heart of the story is born. • 34. The Whig Interpretation Of History Essay History may be examined and interpreted in many different ways. This is because there is little evidence that had survived to go by in which historians have to use to study the past. Evidence, written and made by the historical people themselves, include but are not limited to written documents, such as books and letters, and material culture, as in art and architecture. Now, because the original authors or artists are not alive to tell the story, historians have to examine the evidence left behind to make an educated judgment on what had really happened in the past. This judgment or argument is always incomplete and up for revision as more evidence is found as time passes by. Although many conclusions can be generated from one piece of evidence, arguments can be biased, leading to different, possibly incorrect, views of history. In his essay, The Whig Interpretation of History, Herbert Butterfieldelaborates on the matter that many historians tend to write on the behalf on a Protestant or Whig point of view when researching about history. The argument he has provided in his essay states that the whig interpretation of history relates to the act of abstracting [ideas and events] from their historical context and judging them apart from their context estimating them and organizing the historical story by a system of direct reference to the present (Butterfield 30). The play was written in 1598 during the reign of Elizabeth I of England. The following statement certainly rings true of William Shakespeare: English authors in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries made extensive use of classical mythology, in drama and narrative poems, as ornaments in lyric poetry, and by means of mythological allusion in prose and verse works.1 The mythology of Ancient Greece and Rome appears in the characterization, imagery, allusion, and theme of this play. The references to the classical period are both bold and subtle as Shakespeare weaves them into the work. The opening scene immediately sets the stage as well as introduces the characters and their relationships, thus allowing the playwright to ply his stylistic trade. Shakespeare uses a subtle ploy: the setting of the scene is Italy, which was the very heart of the classical world. Messina seems to exist as a peaceful town, nestled in nature. The pastoral setting is characteristic of the Renaissance movement which itself was a return to the classical glorification of nature. As the play unravels, it becomes evident that many conventions were selected due to their specifically classical undertones. Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory and Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory are two well known theories of personality development with various similarities and differences. While Erikson was influenced by Freud s ideas, his theory differed in a number of important ways and was ultimately created to be an improvement to Freud s personality development theory (Friedman Schustack, 2012). Like Freud s psychosexual theory, Erikson agreed that personality progresses in a sequence of predetermined phases. However, unlike Freud s theory of psychosexual stages, Erikson s theory describes the impact of social experience across the whole lifespan (Hoare, 2005). According to Freud s psychosexual theory, personality develops across 5 sexual stages while Erikson s develops among 8 social stages. Freud s theory has fewer stages due to his belief that the last stage of identity develops during adolescence, while Erikson s theory had more stages because he believed an individual s identity continually evolved over their entire lifetime (Hoare, 2005). The 5 stages of Freud s theory: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency and Genital, will be discussed, compared and contrasted with Erikson s 8 stages: Trust vs. Mistrust, Autonomy vs. Doubt, Initiative vs. Guilt, Industry vs. Inferiority, Identity vs. Role Confusion, Intimacy vs. Isolation, Generativity vs. Stagnation, and Integrity vs. Despair (Passer, Smith, Atkinson, Mitchell Muir, 2011). Each stage in Erikson s theory involves a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
