The Characteristics Of A Hero In Toy Story
What are the characteristic that you think that define someone ?As we look into cartoons, movie
series, fictional characters we may notice that many of them have similar traits as we do. In
some we feel a total connection as we can feel what they are going through. As the middle child
in my family with two brothers and one little sister I have a ton going on. Growing up there was
an infinite of shows to watch and spare time that is unimaginable so as i grow older i only watched
those that i felt identified with onen of the character. Most of the times with wasn t even the main
character i identified with. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are
Woody from Toy Storyfor his, heroic personality that always wants to be the center of attention,
Patrick from Spongebob Squarepantsfor his laziness that even prevents him from having actual
responsibilities, and Steve from American Dad for his trait of wanting fit in at school and out of
school.
Even though Woody is a toy that comes to life when humans aren t around and is a hero to the
other toys In the movie Toy Story, that doesn t mean we don t have a lot in common since we both
like to be the center of attention. In the movie, Woody a toy action figure wants all the attention
from andy the kid that owns him. When Woody finds out that Andys birthday is coming up he
worries about what new toys he is going to get. That s when Buzzlightyear an outer space ranger

Obergefell Vs. Hodges Case Study
It is important for human resource professionals to understand employment laws that affect its
organization. Also, these laws set by the workforce can lead to legal challenges that will impact
organizations. One of the greatest legal challenges impacting organizations effectiveness and
productivity is discrimination. Discrimination is defined as the mistreatment of a protected class
different from their peers. An employee can be discriminated based on their age, religion, race,
gender, and/or sexual preference. For example, same sex marriages were not lawful until 2015
based on the ruling for Obergefell vs. Hodges case. It is important for organizations to ensure that
their policies and practices align and will not cause discriminate. Beth

Summary Of John Winthrop s A Model Of Christian Clarity
John Winthrop was born around the 1500 s in England which at the time had corruption due to
overpopulation and not enough money. He decided that it needed to be more peace against
prosecution of religion and joined a group called the Puritans. He and his group decided that
they should be the ones to have a safe community as Puritans. He and his fellow people set out
on a voyage where a book was written called A Model of Christian Clarity. For example, A Model
of Christian Clarity says that All men being thus (by divine providence) ranked into two sorts,
rich and poor; under the first are comprehended all such as are able to live comfortably by their
own means duly improved; and all other are poor according to the former distribution (Winthrop
178). This means that the Puritans should be able to live the way they choose whether it be religion
or rich/poor. He also emphasized helping people and not wanting anything in return. He also wanted
to emphasize that the land should not be based on status and that everyone should help each other
to have a more Puritanlife. Winthrop believes that everyone should live a more Christian life and
have compassion to the poor if you are wealthy by selling all of your things soon in order for
them to eat. In A Model of Christian Clarity , Winthrop concludes with Deuteronomy 30 which
says Beloved, there is now set before us life and food, death and evil, in that we are commanded
this day to love the Lord our God, and to love one another,

Rhetorical Analysis Of President Ronald Reagan s Speech
On January 28, 1986, as millions of Americans watched on live television and in person, the
Challenger space shuttle exploded and broke up over the Atlantic Ocean just moments after its
launch. This space mission was significant for several reason, among them was that it would be the
first time where the space shuttlewould carry a civilian into outer space. Also, there was a frenzy
of interest for Americans as the U.S. and Russians were locked in a space race for space
exploration supremacy. Instead. President Ronald Reagan was left with the unenviable duty of
consoling a nation that had just witnessed the most significant disaster in American history. Hours
after the national disaster, President Reagan sat behind his desk, and steadfastly delivered a set
piece speech from the Oval office. He invited the American audience to listen with a formal, but
respectful introduction Ladies and Gentlemen . His tone was firm, and as he calmly addressed the
tragic events from earlier in the day. The opening lines set a somber tone for the rest of the speech
as he stated this day for mourning and remembering and declaring the tragedy a national loss , But
President Reagan did not want his fellow Americans to just dwell on this tragedy. He used it an
opportunity remind the next generation to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also launched a political innuendo at the Soviets, stating We don t hide our space program. We
don t keep secrets and cover things up. We do it all in the front and in public. He wanted to let the

counterparts. And, President Reagan wanted to prevent any false speculations about the cause of
the explosion or conspiracy theories about the demise of the NASA space

Rehabilitation and Recidivism
Unit 4 Project

Barbara Mitchell
June 16, 2010
Abstract
Over many years there has been great debate about whether rehabilitation reduces the rate of
recidivism in criminal offenders. There has been great controversy over whether anything works
to reduce recidivism and great hope that rehabilitation would offer a reduction in those rates. In
this paper I will introduce information and views on the reality of whether rehabilitation does
indeed reduce recidivism. Proposed is a quasi experiment, using a group of offenders that received
rehabilitation services and an ex post facto group that did not? I intend to prove that rehabilitation

Cullen amp; Gendreau (2000). Cullen and Gendreau (2000). give us some history on the restorative
incarceration. The original theory of restorative justice was based on simple human behavior
regulated by incentive instead of punishment, which instituted the concept of parole as a means of
reward for a prisoner for rehabilitation. Further studies in criminology proved that this idea was too
simplistic and married it to the positivist theory of criminology and instituted individual assessment
and treatment for each prisoner based on their specific needs for reformation.
As Rothman (1980) and many others have pointed out, this ideal system was never implemented as
intended. Although the contours of the correctional system changed the juvenile court,
indeterminate sentencing, probation, parole, and discretion became integral features of this system
the resources and knowledge needed to provide effective treatment to offenders were in short
supply. Cullen and Gendreau (2000).
Cullen and Gendreau compare and contrast the many studies on this subject, the meta analyses
conclusions, their strengths, weaknesses, inconsistencies, and the trends that follow the studies of
the time. They offer their insight on effective corrections and individualizing treatments based on
predictors for crime and behavioral knowledge, as well as conclude that recidivism is reduced by
rehabilitation.

What Is Cleopatra A Role Model
Cleopatra was born in 69 BC in Alexandria, Egypt and died on August 30th, 30 BC.
She was born an Egyptian princess who was the most loved child in the Greek Macedonian
family. When Cleopatra was eighteen years old her father Ptolemy X11 passed away and she
became ruler of Egypt with her younger brother Ptolemy X111 who was only ten years old. She
married him even though she did not get along with him. In Egypt at that time it was tradition to
marry family so that the blood line would continue throughout the generations.
Cleopatra was very well educated, charming, cunning and clever. She was one of the most
powerful Egyptian rulers in history. She was able to speak in several languages including her
native Greek and fluent Egyptian. She was one of the most popular Egyptian queens and the last
pharaoh of Egypt. Cleopatra was also the last ruler of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a Greek Macedonian
who ruled Egypt.
One of Cleopatra s greatest achievements was to improve the role of woman within her society.
Through her own daily life she inspired many women to see marriage as a partnership where each
person in the marriage had their own responsibilities that needed to be satisfied. Cleopatra was a
successful queen who became a role model to all women in her time. ... Show more content on

started challenging her because he wanted to be the only ruler. She fled to Syria but when she
came she had a stronger military army than he did. She showed loyalty and love for her country

Exercise For College Students Essay
Exercise For College Students
College life is a time full of fun, friends, activities, classes, and homework. All of these activities
however, add up to a busy life style. Being busy is not in itself harmful but when the busyness
becomes so great that it turns into stress, problems start to arise. The formation of stress leads to
many unhealthy trends, such as lack of sleep, loss of immunity to disease, and a change in
personality traits. How then can stress in the busy lives of college students be reduced? The answer
is a simple one that has long been known; exercise relieves stress. Colleges across the country need
to implement a program of required exercise classes to promote the well being of students.

Those against mandatory exercise say that if students feel it is important to exercise they will
create a program of physical activity on their own and it does not need to be a part of the school.
The problem with this theory is that the majority of people would stop the program if left on
their own without any sort of accountability. For example, a study was done on several different
exercise plans to see what results would happen over time. First the theoretical approach of self
monitoring was used. This program left individuals to attend exercise sessions on their own
without any intervention from others. The overall observation was that interest in attending and
exercising was lost after about four weeks. Next the approach of stages of change was used. This
program used four different groups. One group received weekly calls with structured inquiry to
see how and when the subjects were personally exercising. The second group received weekly
calls with general inquiries about their exercise habits. The third group received a call every
three weeks with general inquiries of exercise, and the last group received calls every three weeks
with structured inquiries. The results were, that 63% of the subjects who were called more
frequently were regularly exercising as opposed to only the 22% exercising success rate of those
that were called less frequently. Also those called with the structured

Renaissance Humanism And Liturgical Reform
Humanism and Liturgical Reform In the later years of his life, Renaissance humanist Francesco
Petrarca (1304 74) remarked: There is no lighter burden, nor more agreeable, than a pen. In
many ways, the positions taken on the liturgy by Cardinal Diego Fernandez de QuiГ±one, (1482
1540) the Council of Trent, (1545 63) and by St. Pius V (1504 72) represent the Catholic Church
s embrace of Humanistic ideas. The effects of this embrace were manifold: attempts were made at
the Council of Trent to limit the elaborateness of the music of the mass to insure clarity of text,
Additionally, attempts to thin out and order the breviary were undertaken by Cardinal QuiГ±one
and Pope Pius V However, Pius X s (1835 1914) attempts to distribute a new Psalter... Show more

Gregory was, however, instrumental in manifold changes to the Roman liturgy. He set down a
decree which regularized the observance of Ember Days. A second decree, dating from early in
his reign provided a system for determining which Psalm cycle would be sung at night: twelve
psalms coupled with three readings for ferial days, the Sunday Nocturnes, Matins during Easter,
week and for one of the three remaining feast days. Gregory was active in suppressing the Western
gothic Mozarabic Rite, meaning to replace it with the Roman Rite. This suppression provides a
meaningful analogue to earlier Carolingian actions. The reasons for these reforms were in essence
the same as earlier Carolingian interventions: the establishment the Roman Rite as preeminent.
However, in this case, it was to reestablish the Roman Rite following the two year occupation of
Rome by Henry IV from

The Drug Of Drug Abuse
America has been fighting drug abuse for over a century. Four Presidents have waged a War on
Drugs and unfortunately, this war continues to be lost at an alarming magnitude. Drug abusers
continue to fill our courts, hospitals, and prisons. The drug trade causes violent crime that
ravages our neighborhoods. Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even
abandoned. The current methods of dealing with this issue are not working. Our society needs
to implement new and effective laws and programs to address the problem of drug abuse. Drugs
first surfaced in the United States in the 1800 s, with the use of opium during and after the Civil
War. Cocaine followed in the 1880 s and the abuse of these drugs at the end of the 19th century
reached epidemic proportions. Morphine was discovered in 1906 and soon became a huge
problem as well. Drugs were no longer being viewed as harmless remedies for aches and pains.
The Harrison Narcotics Act, passed in 1914, was the United States first federal drug policy. The
aggressively enforced act restricted the manufacture and sale of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and
morphine. During this time there was a worldwide movement limiting opium and coca crops and
by World War II, American drug use had become a rare, marginal social problem. During the
1960s, drugs like marijuana, amphetamines, and psychedelics were developed and a new
generation was exposed to drugs. Marijuana became fashionable on college campuses and users

The Culture Of A Grocery Store
When entering a grocery store, most people don t take the time to stop and observe their
surroundings, for their soul purpose at that instant is to purchase what very food they may need
for that day or maybe even for that week. However, through all the haste of wanting to go in and
out of grocery stores as fast as one can, most are unaware of the very culture that they too are
now apart of, the interactions, both verbal and through people s body language that they are
experiencing, how people look and dress, even what is considered appropriate behavior although
not specifically written down. Culture is all around us, and we all contribute to it, whether it is
through our norms, values, symbols, or mental maps of reality (Guest 2014, 38 43). That is why
through this assignment, I took the time to observe the culture experienced in the American
grocery store Stater Brothers, the ethnical Filipino grocery store Seafood City, while also taking
the time to reflect on my own personal views of what I thought was normal through my
experience working in Northgate Gonzalez Market, a Mexican grocery store for three years. I
started off observing State Brothers, taking a few minutes to watch who entered, what type of
person, if they were young, old, if they entered in groups, alone, in couples, with children, and their
appearances. What I found was that for the most part most of the people who entered were either

process tends to follow these steps: вћўThe headhunter receives a job description from

Jealousy And Jealousy In Human Behaviour
The concepts of jealousy and envy have been acknowledged as being important characteristics of
human behaviour and can be considered as a mental state that directs an individual s assessment of
a stimulating situation.
The existence of a rival can be particularly threatening because it challenges some aspect of a
person s self definition (Parrott, 1991), hence leaving persons in an emotional triangle between
their self worth and their social valve. Your neighbour pulls up in a sweet new ride. Your co
worker announces she s taking yet another trip abroad. Your best friend upgraded to a bigger
house in a better area of town (Weston 2017). This played seamlessly within the author s first
paragraph of the article, which took a more sympatric approach and depicted a pathos type of
argument, with a benevolent tone. Playing on the readers emotions and captivating their attention
as we all have been exposed to the notion of feeling inferior in comparison to our peers and their
achievements, which induced our level of interest to read on. Psychologists have coined that
jealousy is universal based on its functional mechanism (Dittman 2005), which we can see playing
out with the catching up with the Joneses or utility interdependence mentality that results in
mindless spending as described by Lisa within the article. It was clear in the transformation of the
authors tone and argument from being sympatric to a more candid tone, while depicting the logos
form of argument, with a very stern under tone to readers who are guilty of wasteful spending of
money to match that of their peers, whose underline source of funds in most cases are not
publicised as the public show of their wealth. The author describes vividly the picture of the
foundation that one lives their lavish lifestyle on, that is not seen or understood by the onlooker but
many times the veil is present and the emotion of jealousy is ramped hence no logic is seen and
only emotion is felt.
For most theorists, a defining feature of jealousy is that it requires a social triangle which takes
place when someone perceives that another person (be it real or imaginary) poses a potential threat
to an important interpersonal relationship (e.g., Parrott

Gun Laws And Practices Regulate Gun Control
Guns have always been a major problem in the United States of America. The Second
Amendment to the Constitution gives us the right to bear arms, which makes everyone feel
they need to have a gun, and that can lead to dangerous situations for people in the US. It is very
easy to get yourself a gun. It costs less than an iPhone to get. The problem I am trying to get at is
that there are inevitably going to be gun use violations, and people can use the Second
Amendment to get guns way too easily. My essay will deal with how we can create laws and
practices to regulate guns, how we can stop guns from getting into the wrong hands, and also how
we can prevent mass shootings.
This is all one big picture. There is a slippery slope, where one problem leads to another. I feel
that most people don t understand what the Second Amendment means to other people. Many
people think, I have to carry a gun on me at all times or, Since I have the right to, I am going to
buy assault rifles and machine guns for the hell of it. See the Second Amendment. But nowhere in
the Second Amendment does it state that you have a right to bear arms to protect your home, or if
you feel you are in danger.
It is so easy to obtain almost any gun. I mean, someone could easily buy a machine gun or assault
rifle. A simple background check and it is yours. And unfortunately, these mass shootings do occur
as a result. These shooters can be homegrown terrorists, or tied to terrorist organizations overseas.

She even makes a gift for Mr. Van Daan, whom she doesn t always get along with. In scene 5 of
the Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, the families celebrate
Hanukkah. During this scene, they light the menorah as Mr. Frank prays, and when he finishes,
Anne says it s time to open presents and calls everyone to the couch. Before Mr. Van Daan opens
his gift, Anne says, I wanted to write a poem for all of them but I didn t have time. Your s Mr.
Van Daan, is really something. Look! Cigarettes! This quote can be found on page 87. This is a
big moment for the play because, Anne and Mr. Van Daan have never gotten along and now
they can finally get to know each other because Anne is showing she cares about Mr. Van Daan
by giving him such a gift. This is especially important because Mr. Van Daan loves cigarettes and
he s been needing one for a while, and Anne found a way to take tobacco and make homemade
cigarettes out of it. This proves that as much as they argue and don t get along, Anne still cares
about Mr. Van Daan, and will not forget about him or not give him a gift at all. Mr. Van Daan
must feel happy to know that Anne took time from her sleep just to make gifts for everyone, and
not every teenager will take the time to do such a thing for someone that they care about. Anne is
showing that no matter how mean he is to her, she will always be nice to him and will never
leave him feeling left out. Because of this, Mr. Van Daan should realize that Anne isn t just an
ignorant pest who can t be quiet for 5 minutes, and that Anne is just a young girl who doesn t mean
to make anyone feel as if they ve just been offended and that she still cares no matter what. During
this scene in the play, the hanukkah celebration gets cut short because of a loud noise downstairs.

Earthquakes On May 22, 1960 In Chile
According to Brillinger (2011), earthquakes were recorded after happening to get an earthquake
statistics. Earthquakes may be large or small, serious or trivial; however, the higher the magnitude,
the greater the damage to a particular location and the surrounding area. Earthquakes can also create
other natural disasters, like tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, which bring more dangerous disasters
than earthquakes. Statistics of earthquakes can be extremely important for it can give governments
plans to do rebuilding after earthquakes, can help scientists better detect and anticipate earthquakes,
and can provide more information to public to learn about earthquakes. It is helpful to take a look

Magnitude of the earthquake was 9.5 out of 10, with a rupture zone of about 1,000 km. About 1,655
people were killed, 3,000 wounded, 2 million homeless, and about $550 million lost in southern
Chile. The volcano actually triggered a tsunami that killed 61 people and caused extensive damage
in Hawaii, the Philippines, Easter Island, Samoa, and California. Residual damage caused
landslides and volcanic eruptions after two days and lasted for several weeks. There were four
foreshocks with magnitudes of seven or upper, five aftershocks with seven or upper levels, and
some volcanoes. The first tremors and aftershocks began on May 21, 1960 and lasted until
November 1, 2016.
The second strongest earthquake in history and the strongest in the United States occurred in
Alaska on March 27, 1964, about 5 pm and lasted about five minutes in size with a magnitude of
9.2. 131 people were killed, resulting in 311 million (2.3 billion today after inflation adjusted) US
dollar losses because of this earthquake. Local tsunami and transoceanic tsunamis crossing the
Pacific Ocean was also due to the earthquake. This earthquake was particularly important because it

The Banquet Scene In The Iliad
The Iliad is the quintessential epic. It is full with gods, goddesses, heroes, war, honor, glory, and
the like. However, for just short while near the very conclusion Homer avoids all of those epic
qualities. The banquet scene in Book XXIV is the most touching, the most human scene in the
entire poem . In the midst of the dreadful gulf of war and anger there occurs an intimate moment
between two men who ironically have much in common below the surface.
Priam, old and fragile, makes his way to the camp of the enemy s greatest warrior late at night. He
bears what little treasures have not been exhausted by the ten year conflict and plans to plead for
the rightful return of his son s body. This is his final heroic endeavor. And... Show more content on

Recall in Book III his kindliness towards Helen. This perception of Achilles as a vision of Hektor is
also a reaction to Achilles his newly developed warmth and tenderness. And in fact, not overlooking
what Achilles has done, Priam cannot deny that he is a great strong warrior and has brought much
glory to the side of the Achaians.
By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a
zone of peace.
. There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. The scene is
uncompromisingly tragic: Patroklos is dead, Hektor is dead, Priam will soon be killed, and
Achilles will soon be killed. Yet somehow, in the midst of suffering, moral beauty survives.
Though the human lot he portrays is grim, his actions show a human decency that somehow softens
our sense of what it means to be human
NOTE: Observe how the plot structure of the Iliad completes itself. In the first book, a father
(Chryses) comes to Agamemnon to plead for the return of his child but is refused. In the last
book, a father (Priam) also pleads to Achilles for the return of a child; this time pity is shown.
Though this symmetry is surely there, Homer is an artist who permits complexities and
contradictions. As you begin to sum up your feelings about the Iliad, test all the threads. The
question is not simply is Achilles right or wrong, or are the Trojans or Argives the real heroes.
Homer values both

If defendant s acts or omissions are found to be substantial contributing factors in the injury and
without these contributing factors the injury would not have happened, then cause in fact will be
established. Beyond substantial factors, the other element of proximate cause is foreseeability. As
Smith and Johnson (2010) have observed, Employers typically defend nonsubscriber claims on the
proximate cause of negligence... Foreseeability is a necessary element of the plaintiff s case that is
often not present in many employee injury cases (p. 102). Consequently, defendants will likely
attack the foreseeability element. The burden will be on the plaintiff to argue that more likely than
not the defendant s acts and omissions were the proximate causes of the injury. Expert testimony
regarding how the injury occurred, as well as its foreseeability, will be key in determining whether
the plaintiff or defendants will prevail. This brings us to the final element should causation be

Elizabeth Bennet Research Paper
Elizabeth Bennet, a woman of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, was doomed to
be forever tied to the expectations society had for women of the time. She was to be wed to a
befitting suitor, and behave as a woman should. That being said, it becomes quite clear to the
reader (along with the other characters) that Elizabeth couldn t care less of the expectations
society had for her at least, far less than most women of her time did. Elizabeth, while tied to the
society she was born into, did not let the whims of the populace dictate every move she made in
her life, most specifically of how and when to be wed.
The standards for men and women of the time between 1796 1813 dictated nearly every aspect of
an individual s life. It told each person how to behave and how they will advance in society. The
most important thing to a woman of this time was her own reputation. Her class and familial
wealth were the main contributors to how others perceived her. It was best for a woman to marry
well (wealthy, good breeding, good family background, etc.) to maintain a good and sturdy
reputation. However, a woman couldn t just worry about herself and how others perceived her.
There was also the worry of the family reputation, which, as it was, would also affect a woman s

This form of abused is disputed of appearing on New York Time s best seller novel Fifty Shades

The other half of the public says it is not because she asked for it in order to better understand
Christian s BDSM lifestyle. According to William and Gloria Brame s Different Loving (1996):
BDSM is a variety of erotic practices involving dominance and submission, role playing,
restraint, and other interpersonal dynamics. BDSM is a term that dates back to 1969, and is
believed to be a combination of the words bondage, discipline, domination, submission, sadism,
and masochism. People who are part of the BDSM community stress out that what they do is not
abuse since what they do is consensual. They choose to do this, whether it is to have complete
power over a person, or choosing to give up all power by submitting to another completely. One
of the most important aspects of BDSM is the use of a safeword. A safeword can be a word or a
phrase that is implemented by both parties that both can remember during the sexual act. The
safeword is to be said out loud when things are not going as expected or when one of the parties
wants to stop. Once the safeword is used, the Dominant (person in charge) has to immediately
cease all activity and release the submissive (person who gave up power) from all bondage and

Analysis Of The Film The Thirty-Nine Steps
Hitchcock described his film, The Thirty Nine Steps, as a film of episodes. He made sure the
content of every scene was very solid, so that each one would be a little film in itself (Truffaut,
p.95). The sequence The Crofter and His Wife is one of the sections that acts as a film within
the film. The central theme of this sequence is character entrapment. At around mark 26:30, the
scene opens with a view of the countryside which appears to be picturesque and peaceful.
However, it is clear that the countryside is also remote and uninhabited. As Hannay walks
towards Alt na Shellach he finds himself at a very small house which seems to be the only house
in the area and soon figures out that it belongs to a poor crofter and his wife. Hannay asks the
crofter if he knows where the professor s house is. The crofter informs him that it is 14 miles away
from their current location and this is why Hannay pays to stay the night instead of traveling at
night. Both the crofter and his wife are distanced from society. In addition, the isolated environment
in which the house is placed is an example of the theme of entrapment.
As this scene progresses, Hannay is introduced to the crofter s wife, Margaret. It is clear to Hannay
and the view that there is a significant age gap between the couple. As Margaret prepares supper,
she engages in a conversation with Hannay. Although Margaret did not grow up in the countryside,
her husband does not approve when she talks about outside places such as London. She explains, he
says it s best not to think of such things and all the wickedness that goes on there. Margaret then
asks, Is it true that all the London ladies paint their toenails? It is evident that Margaret is
physically and mentally entrapped in the countryside with a man much older than her.
While the crofter is praying, he grows suspicious when he notices the glances exchanged by
Hannay and Margaret at the dinner table. Hitchcock uses shot reverse techniques as the camera
captures the expressions on the character s faces. The crofter steps out of the house and says he
needs to check the barn door. Instead, he spies on Hannay and Margaret through the kitchen
window. The crofter is shot in a frame within a frame as he

My Favorite Creative Element Is Imagery
Writers are undoubtedly the connoisseurs of the linguistic world. The amazing thing about the
written word is that it has no conviction; every literate human being has the same tools at their
disposal and yet no two writers ever have the same flavor. I was fortunate enough to have
recognized this at a young age. I immersed myself in all aspects of the written word: lyrics, poetry,
fiction, nonfiction, etc. What has always excited me as a writer is my appreciation for the power
that words can have on people. From Stephen King to Stephen Biko, every great writer that I have

The Importance Of Forensic Science In Criminal Justice
In recent decades, there has been wide controversy over forensic science in criminal justice and
it s credibility. Criminal justice system relies on forensic evidence, which includes bite mark and
hair analysis, to convict criminals. People began questioning the legitimacy when the FBI
admitted to the flaws in hair analysis in hundreds of cases that occurred over decades before the
2000s. Not only those cases but many others in which the evidence was not scientific legitimate.
According to The National Registry of Exonerations, more than 2,000 people have been
exonerated in recent decades. More than 400 of those, were because of misleading or flawed
evidence. This all has proven that these methods used for hundreds and thousands of years need to
be fixed and changed. In the state of Texas for example, they have a reorganized commission that
is working to improve forensic sciencewithin the state. The issue is also the prosecutors and many
in the criminal justicesystem. They defend these methods because of its long standing practice.
Which has already proven, that it is not credible in proving someone s innocence and it has cost
many of people s lives.
Forensic Science Credibility Research has shown that in many cases the evidence is not credible.
Brandon Garrett, who is a member of the advisory board of the National Registry of Exonerations,
wrote: Traditional forensics put these people in prison in the first place. People came in and said,

Difference Between Motown Vs. Stax
Motown vs. Stax
Emerging out of the turbulent civil rights period in the United States, the majority of the black
minority population finally found a means by which to express their voice to the world through
music. This movement stemmed from two extremely different music studios located in opposite
regions of the United States. One of these companies arose out of the north, which very rigidly
rigidly controlled their product and polished young talent to fit an agenda. In contrast, its opposing
studio began in the deep south and was raw, unrestricted, as well as organic, choosing to let any
artist play regardless of who they were or how they performed. Together, these music production
studios helped break down the racial segregation of black and white music, although they went
about it in polar opposite ways.
Motown Record Company (briefly name Tamala Records), located in Detroit, Michigan was
birthed by Berry Gordy on January 12, 1959. His vision was for the company to produce black
artists to bridge the gap between white and black segregated music markets and audiences. He
dreamed about making an entity that would appeal to both the wider white pop music audiences as
well as the narrower black Rhythm and Blues one. To obtain this objective, he began to make Black
music more palatable to white pop music consumers not only by the appealing, upbeat pop music
arrangements and

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Lightships
Lightships are manned seamarks anchored at a specific point of a river, generally a shallow one.
Fixed into place by a mushroom shaped anchor, these small ships (rarely above 50 tons) would
initially use large lanterns affixed atop the main mast. Their main advantage is that they could be
placed in areas where it was impossible for lighthouses to act as efficient seamarks. Their main
disadvantage, especially the early ones, is that turbulent waters could slightly shift the anchor and
thus the ship s positioning (Talbot 1913, pp. 241 42). In the worst case scenario, the chains could
snap, leaving the ship in a dire position. However, introduced in the early 19th century were
numerous lighting inventions (Clarke 2016, pp. 14, 42) as well as mooring technologies using iron,
which could anchor a vessel 12 to 14 times the tonnage of the largest lightship (Clarke 2016, pp. 50
56), made them increasingly reliable over time. Ubiquitous to seafarers, their offshore position
meant that lightships were out of eyesight of the majority of the population, which explains why
they went largely unnoticed, even by most economists and historians including Coase, who studied
lighting services. Yet, lightships featured prominently in the frequently cited 1834 Report from the
Select Committee on Lighthouses. In fact, of the 55 lights in England, 13 were provided by
floating lights (House of Commons 1834, p. VI). As such, lightships were an important contributor
to lighting services. What

Texting in Class Is Rampant
Crafting Draft 1
21 April 2014
Cellphones are most common in society. The ease of access allows us to have the world at our
fingertips 24 hours a day and we never have to unplug. We can surf the web, book a flight, check
the weather, and message a friend 1000 miles away without leaving our bed. Texting has fast
become the preferred form of communication for young adults; however, students need to be
dissuaded from texting during class because of the result in loss of valuable class time, lack of
effective communication skills, and consistent use of improper English leading to a negative
impact on students learning. Maryellen Weimer, PhD recently posted in Teacher Professor Blog

Lack of comprehension and poor course work will result in a lower grade average. Students may
become frustrated and give up easily. Using texting as a quicker and more efficient form of
communication takes the emotional connection out of the equation. It allows us to not be
physically near the recipient or to take responsibility for miscommunications that lead to hurt
feelings. While texting, students do not need to make eye contact with their recipient or learn to
read their body language. In addition, there is no need to learn the art of persuasive argument or
exchanging and building on ideas. This is not only harming students in the classroom, but can
have negative effects when entering the workforce. After leaving college, students hope to land
a job in their field of expertise. In the workforce, teams are a diverse collection of persons all
ages and different cultures. Texting may be acceptable in some situations, but there is still a great
need for face to face interactions. We learn how to become more comfortable meeting new people
and interviewing for jobs. There is nothing wrong the light banter between friends that texting can
provide, but the conversation is not necessarily deep. Texting allows us to stay in touch with
others in a most efficient way. We type a quick text, hit send, and in a matter of seconds our
recipient has our text. Receiving a text is fast, but typing out a clear, concise

Exordium By SГёren Kierkegaard
Often times, existential philosophers question existence; why something is the way it is. SГёren
Kierkegaard such these sort of questions and this is clear in his book Fear and Trembling in the
section entitled Exordium. In this section, there are four different ways a particular story is told of
Abraham contemplating fulfilling a duty to God by sacrificing his son to God. In each of these
stories, there is a different ending trying to get at why Abraham is the greatest. In each of these
stories, they show Abraham s commitment to God in different scenarios. Kierkegaard, writing
under the name of Johannes, tells the story of Abraham taking his son, Isaac, to Mount Moriah to
sacrifice him to God to show his faithfulness. In each of these stories... Show more content on

In all of these stories, Abraham at least contemplates, or comes very close to actually sacrificing
his son, his number one priority, to God because of his commitment to God. In three of the four
stories, Abraham comes very close to actually sacrificing Isaac to God and this show a lot of
faith. Even in the third story where Abraham takes his command as a test and begs for
forgiveness for even contemplating following through with the order, even doing that shoes a
lot of commitment. Abraham realizes that one s relationship to God comes first before
anything, and that for one to truly be connected to Good, one must follow his orders and satisfy
his requests. By showing his faith to God and putting Him first, he at least contemplates
sacrificing his son to God because of his religious duty, and that is some extreme faith that is
incomprehensible. This is why in God s eyes, Abraham is so great, and because of the amount of
faith and commitment he has to God. In the first story, Abraham tries to cover up the fast that he
would be killing Isaac because it was a command of God by pretending to have gone mad and
psychopathic, so that Isaac does not lose faith in God, but only in Abraham. In the second story,
Abraham shows that he is going to sacrifice Isaac, and does not follow through because God
provides a ram to sacrifice instead of Isaac. In the third story, Abraham

A Comparison Between the Victorian and the Contemporary Couple in A.S Byatt s Possession
Possession contains two love stories: a contemporary one and a Victorian one whose plots are
interlaced, and not as its subtitle suggests a single one: A Romance . It is a novel about a pair of
young scholars who trace the correspondence between two Victorian poets. The contemporary love
story between Roland Mitchell and Maud Bailey develops in parallel with and is intermingled with
the story of the Victorian lovers, Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte, since the modern
academics quest for knowledge of the past drives the modern romance. While the Victorian love

They seem to fit the norms. However, in private, their couple is really different. Ellen actually
never managed to have a sexual relationship with her husband. She simply could not bear it, since
her, the sexual act is a brutal experience incompatible with marriage. And against all expectations,
her husband understood her refusal by accepting her love (p.459)[1]. This acceptance of lack of
sexual intimacy is really unusual in the nineteenth century; it was a woman s duty to make love
with her husband even though she was not supposed to enjoy it. Most men probably expected
their wives to do their duty, and would not endure any privation of that kind. Ash seems to live
with it and feels tenderness, friendship, complicity and love for his wife. They remain married, but
it should not be forgotten that at that time any other alternative would have been unacceptable in
their society. Moreover, after his death many years later, Ellen Ash realizes that she had spent all
her time and energy during her married life trying to compensate her husband for the lack of sex.
She thinks even that she became his slave (p.459). Both the male and female characters suffer from
their society s attitude toward sexuality.
On the contrary, Ash s liaison with Christabel is characterised by their mutual satisfaction in love
and in sexuality. Their relationship is not based on

European Imperialism 19th Century
With the wealth of the industrial revolution burning in their pockets, the powerful nations of
Europe were ready to formally expand their empire into Asia and Africa. Known as new
imperialism, this desire for expansion was motivated by many things. There were two major
reasons why Europe wanted to expand, and that was the promise of economic growth, and the sting
of national rivalry. Prior to the 19th century Europes interactions with Asia and Africahad mostly
been limited. Content on making money from their already established commercial outlets, Europe
usually didn t impose direct rule into these areas. However as the 19th century progressed a shift
occurred of new imperialism. Europeans began to seek formal political control over foreign... Show

cannons to take over cities amongst the cost to set up their trading post empire. But in the second
half of the 19th century Europe suddenly and spectacularly succeeded in colonizing basically all
of Africa. Biggest reason why they were able to extend their grasp over much of the world is
because of the same reason they wanted too in the first place, industrialization. Not only was
industrialization a driving force but nationalism played its part in this. European states saw it as a

ROMANS HEIRS TO GREEK AND HELLENISTIC CIVILIZATION
IN WHAT WAYS WERE THE ROMANS HEIRS TO GREEK AND HELLENISTIC
CIVILIZATION?
The Hellenistic civilization marked an important time in Greek culture. This was the period
between 323 and 31 BC, at one point the Greek society changed from being withdrawn and
localized to an aggressive multinational, unprotected, and eager culture that infused together
southwest Asia and eastern Mediterranean. The Hellenistic world involved many different people
but the Greeks thinking and way of life influenced most of the matters.1 Every aspect related to
culture followed the beliefs of the Greeks and this led to the Greek language becoming established,
as the official language of this area. The following arguments are centralized around ... Show more

Moreover, the law did not allow women to hold office, but the men who held offices were
allowed to seek counsel of their wives and this could only be done in private. Conversely, equality
of men and women was more in the Roman society than it had been in the Greek culture.
Professor Roy Mathews and Dewitt Platt centralized their arguments around political humanities of
the western world, and around the period for the Hellenistic civilization. This is when the
institutions and culture of other nations interacted with the Greek s in order to create a
multicultural and varied civilization. From their definition, this would seem to suggest that Rome
should not be counted as Hellenistic civilization because of the controversial time lines.
Nonetheless, Rome was situated in the ideal geographical location, which naturally created a varied
and multicultural civilization due to its expansion and methods of conquering people. This
explanation indicates that Rome was an heir to Hellenistic civilization even though it does not fit
according to the definition given by Professor Mathews and Platt. Professor Noble, on the other
hand, explains how the fall of the Roman Empire led to the rising of three great civilizations of, the
Byzantine Empire, medieval Europe, and the Islamic caliphate.8 Professor Noble

Labour Movement Pros And Cons
The Labor Movement generated opposition from both the government and the public since they
both saw unions as violent and lawless. The government used force to control the unions showing
their disgust for the views and actions of these organizations. Well, organized and growing
businesses took the advantage in the struggle with labor, so the workersstarted labor unions. It is
easily argued both ways whether or not unions formed were beneficialto workers. With great
evidence though, it is proven that although beneficial in many ways, for the most part unions were
very negative towards the progress of our country.
1. The very first labor union, The National Labor Union was started in 1866. This union lasted for
six years and had 600,00 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then on May 4 labor disorders had broken out in Haymarket Square and the police were called.
Suddenly a dynamite bomb was thrown that killed or injured several dozen people. The people
wrongfully connected the Knights with the Anarchists, and the power of the Knights of Labor
came to a dismal end.
The Homestead strike in 1892 was the first major strike to take place after the downfall of the
Knights. It started at Carnegie s steel plant in Homestead, PA. when workers refused to accept
new wage cuts. Henry Clay Frick shut down the plant and surrounded it with guards to protect the
property. The infuriated workers soon ran the guards out when they realized that Frick had
intentions of reopening the plant with strikebreakers. After a thirteen hour struggle Carnegies
Company persuaded the governor of Pennsylvania to provide help, the state militia was
summoned to restore peace. The company began to bring in strikebreaker to replace employees
who had walked out. Many of the leaders of the strike were prosecuted for rioting and murder. The
steel workers union was detroyed. Some members of Congress were sympathetic to Homestead
strikers. The public in general felt little sympathy for the strikers because they felt that the working
person should remain free to sell services as an individual and not through a union. Many thought
that the right to work was sacred. They felt that union organizers had no business interfering

Halakha, Jewish Religious Law And Religious Commandments
Halakha by definition is Jewish religious law, encompassing both civil and religious
commandments and prohibitions. The word Halakha stems from the root meaning to walk.
Halakha involves the study of law and customs in the Jewish religion. According to rabbinic law it
must be performed to sanctify all life and attain redemption. This idea when introduced was a
collection of rabbinic commentaries from the Hebrew bible or the torah. The importance of halakha
among Judaismand its trends, ideas, theories etc. is the fact that halakha is trying to integrate itself
into the world and not just strictly deal with Jews but integrate itself into the world of non Jews.

Responsa are the answers to questions Jews posed in the ancient days, the questions not
addressed by halakhic law but questions posed in everyday life. The importance of responsa in
Judaism is the fact that we have a physical database so to speak on questions about Judaism or
about practices, we have somewhere where the rabbis answered questions posed by the gaon and
Jews of the era and even though they won t correlate with some questions and situations we go
through today as modern Jews in America, the basic questions of Judaism and basic concerns
would be covered by the rabbis of the ancient times. The Talmud has many response within it, they
cover business ethics, ethics, customs, etc. The most posed questions and answers to the responsa
would be rules about ordinary incidents of life.

  • 2. The Characteristics Of A Hero In Toy Story What are the characteristic that you think that define someone ?As we look into cartoons, movie series, fictional characters we may notice that many of them have similar traits as we do. In some we feel a total connection as we can feel what they are going through. As the middle child in my family with two brothers and one little sister I have a ton going on. Growing up there was an infinite of shows to watch and spare time that is unimaginable so as i grow older i only watched those that i felt identified with onen of the character. Most of the times with wasn t even the main character i identified with. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Woody from Toy Storyfor his, heroic personality that always wants to be the center of attention, Patrick from Spongebob Squarepantsfor his laziness that even prevents him from having actual responsibilities, and Steve from American Dad for his trait of wanting fit in at school and out of school. Even though Woody is a toy that comes to life when humans aren t around and is a hero to the other toys In the movie Toy Story, that doesn t mean we don t have a lot in common since we both like to be the center of attention. In the movie, Woody a toy action figure wants all the attention from andy the kid that owns him. When Woody finds out that Andys birthday is coming up he worries about what new toys he is going to get. That s when Buzzlightyear an outer space ranger toy that gained popularity. Andy gives ... One of the greatest legal challenges impacting organizations effectiveness and productivity is discrimination. Discrimination is defined as the mistreatment of a protected class different from their peers. An employee can be discriminated based on their age, religion, race, gender, and/or sexual preference. • 4. Summary Of John Winthrop s A Model Of Christian Clarity John Winthrop was born around the 1500 s in England which at the time had corruption due to overpopulation and not enough money. He decided that it needed to be more peace against prosecution of religion and joined a group called the Puritans. He and his group decided that they should be the ones to have a safe community as Puritans. He and his fellow people set out on a voyage where a book was written called A Model of Christian Clarity. For example, A Model of Christian Clarity says that All men being thus (by divine providence) ranked into two sorts, rich and poor; under the first are comprehended all such as are able to live comfortably by their own means duly improved; and all other are poor according to the former distribution (Winthrop 178). This means that the Puritans should be able to live the way they choose whether it be religion or rich/poor. He also emphasized helping people and not wanting anything in return. He also wanted to emphasize that the land should not be based on status and that everyone should help each other to have a more Puritanlife. Winthrop believes that everyone should live a more Christian life and have compassion to the poor if you are wealthy by selling all of your things soon in order for them to eat. In A Model of Christian Clarity , Winthrop concludes with Deuteronomy 30 which says Beloved, there is now set before us life and food, death and evil, in that we are commanded this day to love the Lord our God, and to love one another, ... • 5. Rhetorical Analysis Of President Ronald Reagan s Speech On January 28, 1986, as millions of Americans watched on live television and in person, the Challenger space shuttle exploded and broke up over the Atlantic Ocean just moments after its launch. This space mission was significant for several reason, among them was that it would be the first time where the space shuttlewould carry a civilian into outer space. Also, there was a frenzy of interest for Americans as the U.S. and Russians were locked in a space race for space exploration supremacy. Instead. President Ronald Reagan was left with the unenviable duty of consoling a nation that had just witnessed the most significant disaster in American history. Hours after the national disaster, President Reagan sat behind his desk, and steadfastly delivered a set piece speech from the Oval office. He invited the American audience to listen with a formal, but respectful introduction Ladies and Gentlemen . His tone was firm, and as he calmly addressed the tragic events from earlier in the day. The opening lines set a somber tone for the rest of the speech as he stated this day for mourning and remembering and declaring the tragedy a national loss , But President Reagan did not want his fellow Americans to just dwell on this tragedy. He used it an opportunity remind the next generation to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also launched a political innuendo at the Soviets, stating We don t hide our space program. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cullen amp; Gendreau (2000). Cullen and Gendreau (2000). give us some history on the restorative incarceration. The original theory of restorative justice was based on simple human behavior regulated by incentive instead of punishment, which instituted the concept of parole as a means of reward for a prisoner for rehabilitation. Further studies in criminology proved that this idea was too simplistic and married it to the positivist theory of criminology and instituted individual assessment and treatment for each prisoner based on their specific needs for reformation. As Rothman (1980) and many others have pointed out, this ideal system was never implemented as intended. Although the contours of the correctional system changed the juvenile court, indeterminate sentencing, probation, parole, and discretion became integral features of this system the resources and knowledge needed to provide effective treatment to offenders were in short supply. Cullen and Gendreau (2000). Cullen and Gendreau compare and contrast the many studies on this subject, the meta analyses conclusions, their strengths, weaknesses, inconsistencies, and the trends that follow the studies of the time. They offer their insight on effective corrections and individualizing treatments based on predictors for crime and behavioral knowledge, as well as conclude that recidivism is reduced by rehabilitation. All of these activities however, add up to a busy life style. Being busy is not in itself harmful but when the busyness becomes so great that it turns into stress, problems start to arise. The formation of stress leads to many unhealthy trends, such as lack of sleep, loss of immunity to disease, and a change in personality traits. How then can stress in the busy lives of college students be reduced? The answer is a simple one that has long been known; exercise relieves stress. Colleges across the country need to implement a program of required exercise classes to promote the well being of students. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those against mandatory exercise say that if students feel it is important to exercise they will create a program of physical activity on their own and it does not need to be a part of the school. The problem with this theory is that the majority of people would stop the program if left on their own without any sort of accountability. For example, a study was done on several different exercise plans to see what results would happen over time. First the theoretical approach of self monitoring was used. This program left individuals to attend exercise sessions on their own without any intervention from others. The overall observation was that interest in attending and exercising was lost after about four weeks. Next the approach of stages of change was used. This program used four different groups. One group received weekly calls with structured inquiry to see how and when the subjects were personally exercising. The second group received weekly calls with general inquiries about their exercise habits. The third group received a call every three weeks with general inquiries of exercise, and the last group received calls every three weeks with structured inquiries. The results were, that 63% of the subjects who were called more frequently were regularly exercising as opposed to only the 22% exercising success rate of those that were called less frequently. • 13. Renaissance Humanism And Liturgical Reform Humanism and Liturgical Reform In the later years of his life, Renaissance humanist Francesco Petrarca (1304 74) remarked: There is no lighter burden, nor more agreeable, than a pen. In many ways, the positions taken on the liturgy by Cardinal Diego Fernandez de QuiГ±one, (1482 1540) the Council of Trent, (1545 63) and by St. Pius V (1504 72) represent the Catholic Church s embrace of Humanistic ideas. The effects of this embrace were manifold: attempts were made at the Council of Trent to limit the elaborateness of the music of the mass to insure clarity of text, Additionally, attempts to thin out and order the breviary were undertaken by Cardinal QuiГ±one and Pope Pius V However, Pius X s (1835 1914) attempts to distribute a new Psalter... • 14. The Drug Of Drug Abuse America has been fighting drug abuse for over a century. Four Presidents have waged a War on Drugs and unfortunately, this war continues to be lost at an alarming magnitude. Drug abusers continue to fill our courts, hospitals, and prisons. The drug trade causes violent crime that ravages our neighborhoods. Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even abandoned. The current methods of dealing with this issue are not working. Our society needs to implement new and effective laws and programs to address the problem of drug abuse. Drugs first surfaced in the United States in the 1800 s, with the use of opium during and after the Civil War. Cocaine followed in the 1880 s and the abuse of these drugs at the end of the 19th century reached epidemic proportions. Morphine was discovered in 1906 and soon became a huge problem as well. Drugs were no longer being viewed as harmless remedies for aches and pains. The Harrison Narcotics Act, passed in 1914, was the United States first federal drug policy. The aggressively enforced act restricted the manufacture and sale of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and morphine. During this time there was a worldwide movement limiting opium and coca crops and by World War II, American drug use had become a rare, marginal social problem. During the 1960s, drugs like marijuana, amphetamines, and psychedelics were developed and a new generation was exposed to drugs. Marijuana became fashionable on college campuses and users sought to expand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Culture Of A Grocery Store When entering a grocery store, most people don t take the time to stop and observe their surroundings, for their soul purpose at that instant is to purchase what very food they may need for that day or maybe even for that week. However, through all the haste of wanting to go in and out of grocery stores as fast as one can, most are unaware of the very culture that they too are now apart of, the interactions, both verbal and through people s body language that they are experiencing, how people look and dress, even what is considered appropriate behavior although not specifically written down. Culture is all around us, and we all contribute to it, whether it is through our norms, values, symbols, or mental maps of reality (Guest 2014, 38 43). That is why through this assignment, I took the time to observe the culture experienced in the American grocery store Stater Brothers, the ethnical Filipino grocery store Seafood City, while also taking the time to reflect on my own personal views of what I thought was normal through my experience working in Northgate Gonzalez Market, a Mexican grocery store for three years. I started off observing State Brothers, taking a few minutes to watch who entered, what type of person, if they were young, old, if they entered in groups, alone, in couples, with children, and their appearances. • 17. Jealousy And Jealousy In Human Behaviour The concepts of jealousy and envy have been acknowledged as being important characteristics of human behaviour and can be considered as a mental state that directs an individual s assessment of a stimulating situation. The existence of a rival can be particularly threatening because it challenges some aspect of a person s self definition (Parrott, 1991), hence leaving persons in an emotional triangle between their self worth and their social valve. Your neighbour pulls up in a sweet new ride. Your co worker announces she s taking yet another trip abroad. Your best friend upgraded to a bigger house in a better area of town (Weston 2017). This played seamlessly within the author s first paragraph of the article, which took a more sympatric approach and depicted a pathos type of argument, with a benevolent tone. Playing on the readers emotions and captivating their attention as we all have been exposed to the notion of feeling inferior in comparison to our peers and their achievements, which induced our level of interest to read on. Psychologists have coined that jealousy is universal based on its functional mechanism (Dittman 2005), which we can see playing out with the catching up with the Joneses or utility interdependence mentality that results in mindless spending as described by Lisa within the article. It was clear in the transformation of the authors tone and argument from being sympatric to a more candid tone, while depicting the logos form of argument, with a very stern under tone to readers who are guilty of wasteful spending of money to match that of their peers, whose underline source of funds in most cases are not publicised as the public show of their wealth. The author describes vividly the picture of the foundation that one lives their lavish lifestyle on, that is not seen or understood by the onlooker but many times the veil is present and the emotion of jealousy is ramped hence no logic is seen and only emotion is felt. For most theorists, a defining feature of jealousy is that it requires a social triangle which takes place when someone perceives that another person (be it real or imaginary) poses a potential threat to an important interpersonal relationship (e.g., Parrott ... • 18. Gun Laws And Practices Regulate Gun Control Guns have always been a major problem in the United States of America. The Second Amendment to the Constitution gives us the right to bear arms, which makes everyone feel they need to have a gun, and that can lead to dangerous situations for people in the US. It is very easy to get yourself a gun. It costs less than an iPhone to get. The problem I am trying to get at is that there are inevitably going to be gun use violations, and people can use the Second Amendment to get guns way too easily. My essay will deal with how we can create laws and practices to regulate guns, how we can stop guns from getting into the wrong hands, and also how we can prevent mass shootings. This is all one big picture. There is a slippery slope, where one problem leads to another. I feel that most people don t understand what the Second Amendment means to other people. Many people think, I have to carry a gun on me at all times or, Since I have the right to, I am going to buy assault rifles and machine guns for the hell of it. See the Second Amendment. But nowhere in the Second Amendment does it state that you have a right to bear arms to protect your home, or if you feel you are in danger. It is so easy to obtain almost any gun. I mean, someone could easily buy a machine gun or assault rifle. A simple background check and it is yours. And unfortunately, these mass shootings do occur as a result. These shooters can be homegrown terrorists, or tied to terrorist organizations overseas. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote can be found on page 87. This is a big moment for the play because, Anne and Mr. Van Daan have never gotten along and now they can finally get to know each other because Anne is showing she cares about Mr. Van Daan by giving him such a gift. This is especially important because Mr. Van Daan loves cigarettes and he s been needing one for a while, and Anne found a way to take tobacco and make homemade cigarettes out of it. This proves that as much as they argue and don t get along, Anne still cares about Mr. Van Daan, and will not forget about him or not give him a gift at all. Mr. Van Daan must feel happy to know that Anne took time from her sleep just to make gifts for everyone, and not every teenager will take the time to do such a thing for someone that they care about. Anne is showing that no matter how mean he is to her, she will always be nice to him and will never leave him feeling left out. Because of this, Mr. Van Daan should realize that Anne isn t just an ignorant pest who can t be quiet for 5 minutes, and that Anne is just a young girl who doesn t mean to make anyone feel as if they ve just been offended and that she still cares no matter what. However, for just short while near the very conclusion Homer avoids all of those epic qualities. The banquet scene in Book XXIV is the most touching, the most human scene in the entire poem . In the midst of the dreadful gulf of war and anger there occurs an intimate moment between two men who ironically have much in common below the surface. By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a zone of peace. . There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. The scene is uncompromisingly tragic: Patroklos is dead, Hektor is dead, Priam will soon be killed, and Achilles will soon be killed. Yet somehow, in the midst of suffering, moral beauty survives. Though the human lot he portrays is grim, his actions show a human decency that somehow softens our sense of what it means to be human NOTE: Observe how the plot structure of the Iliad completes itself. In the first book, a father (Chryses) comes to Agamemnon to plead for the return of his child but is refused. In the last book, a father (Priam) also pleads to Achilles for the return of a child; this time pity is shown. Elizabeth Bennet Research Paper Elizabeth Bennet, a woman of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, was doomed to be forever tied to the expectations society had for women of the time. That being said, it becomes quite clear to the reader (along with the other characters) that Elizabeth couldn t care less of the expectations society had for her at least, far less than most women of her time did. Elizabeth, while tied to the society she was born into, did not let the whims of the populace dictate every move she made in her life, most specifically of how and when to be wed. The standards for men and women of the time between 1796 1813 dictated nearly every aspect of an individual s life. It told each person how to behave and how they will advance in society. The most important thing to a woman of this time was her own reputation. Her class and familial wealth were the main contributors to how others perceived her. It was best for a woman to marry well (wealthy, good breeding, good family background, etc.) to maintain a good and sturdy reputation. • 28. Analysis Of The Film The Thirty-Nine Steps Hitchcock described his film, The Thirty Nine Steps, as a film of episodes. He made sure the content of every scene was very solid, so that each one would be a little film in itself (Truffaut, p.95). The sequence The Crofter and His Wife is one of the sections that acts as a film within the film. The central theme of this sequence is character entrapment. At around mark 26:30, the scene opens with a view of the countryside which appears to be picturesque and peaceful. However, it is clear that the countryside is also remote and uninhabited. As Hannay walks towards Alt na Shellach he finds himself at a very small house which seems to be the only house in the area and soon figures out that it belongs to a poor crofter and his wife. Hannay asks the crofter if he knows where the professor s house is. The crofter informs him that it is 14 miles away from their current location and this is why Hannay pays to stay the night instead of traveling at night. Both the crofter and his wife are distanced from society. In addition, the isolated environment in which the house is placed is an example of the theme of entrapment. As this scene progresses, Hannay is introduced to the crofter s wife, Margaret. It is clear to Hannay and the view that there is a significant age gap between the couple. As Margaret prepares supper, she engages in a conversation with Hannay. Although Margaret did not grow up in the countryside, her husband does not approve when she talks about outside places such as London. She explains, he says it s best not to think of such things and all the wickedness that goes on there. Margaret then asks, Is it true that all the London ladies paint their toenails? It is evident that Margaret is physically and mentally entrapped in the countryside with a man much older than her. While the crofter is praying, he grows suspicious when he notices the glances exchanged by Hannay and Margaret at the dinner table. Hitchcock uses shot reverse techniques as the camera captures the expressions on the character s faces. The crofter steps out of the house and says he needs to check the barn door. Criminal justice system relies on forensic evidence, which includes bite mark and hair analysis, to convict criminals. People began questioning the legitimacy when the FBI admitted to the flaws in hair analysis in hundreds of cases that occurred over decades before the 2000s. Not only those cases but many others in which the evidence was not scientific legitimate. According to The National Registry of Exonerations, more than 2,000 people have been exonerated in recent decades. More than 400 of those, were because of misleading or flawed evidence. This all has proven that these methods used for hundreds and thousands of years need to be fixed and changed. • 32. Difference Between Motown Vs. Stax Motown vs. Stax Emerging out of the turbulent civil rights period in the United States, the majority of the black minority population finally found a means by which to express their voice to the world through music. This movement stemmed from two extremely different music studios located in opposite regions of the United States. One of these companies arose out of the north, which very rigidly rigidly controlled their product and polished young talent to fit an agenda. In contrast, its opposing studio began in the deep south and was raw, unrestricted, as well as organic, choosing to let any artist play regardless of who they were or how they performed. Together, these music production studios helped break down the racial segregation of black and white music, although they went about it in polar opposite ways. Motown Record Company (briefly name Tamala Records), located in Detroit, Michigan was birthed by Berry Gordy on January 12, 1959. His vision was for the company to produce black artists to bridge the gap between white and black segregated music markets and audiences. • 34. Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Lightships Lightships are manned seamarks anchored at a specific point of a river, generally a shallow one. Fixed into place by a mushroom shaped anchor, these small ships (rarely above 50 tons) would initially use large lanterns affixed atop the main mast. Their main advantage is that they could be placed in areas where it was impossible for lighthouses to act as efficient seamarks. Their main disadvantage, especially the early ones, is that turbulent waters could slightly shift the anchor and thus the ship s positioning (Talbot 1913, pp. 241 42). In the worst case scenario, the chains could snap, leaving the ship in a dire position. However, introduced in the early 19th century were numerous lighting inventions (Clarke 2016, pp. 14, 42) as well as mooring technologies using iron, which could anchor a vessel 12 to 14 times the tonnage of the largest lightship (Clarke 2016, pp. 50 56), made them increasingly reliable over time. Ubiquitous to seafarers, their offshore position meant that lightships were out of eyesight of the majority of the population, which explains why they went largely unnoticed, even by most economists and historians including Coase, who studied lighting services. Yet, lightships featured prominently in the frequently cited 1834 Report from the Select Committee on Lighthouses. In fact, of the 55 lights in England, 13 were provided by floating lights (House of Commons 1834, p. VI). As such, lightships were an important contributor to lighting services. What ... Even in the third story where Abraham takes his command as a test and begs for forgiveness for even contemplating following through with the order, even doing that shoes a lot of commitment. By showing his faith to God and putting Him first, he at least contemplates sacrificing his son to God because of his religious duty, and that is some extreme faith that is incomprehensible. This is why in God s eyes, Abraham is so great, and because of the amount of faith and commitment he has to God. In the first story, Abraham tries to cover up the fast that he would be killing Isaac because it was a command of God by pretending to have gone mad and psychopathic, so that Isaac does not lose faith in God, but only in Abraham.
