A Comparison Of The One Hundred Years War Between England...
A war that lasted for 116 years, starting before the Black Plague, taking a break during the Plague,
and starting again after the Black death ended. A war that went through many kings and started
because of bitter rivalries. The One Hundred Years War between England and France was caused
by Edward III s claim to Philip the Fair s throne, Englandholding fiefdoms in France, and the
Flemish textiles made by the people of Flanders. Let s clear something up first. Edward III was
the king of England and the grandson of Philip the Fair. Philip the Fair was the king of France
before he died. When he died, his heir Charles IV became king of France, he died without an heir
to the throne of France. Edward III was next in line to be the ruler of France, but seeing as he was
only fifteen and the king of England at the time, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They make textiles which are then sold to the people of France. What are textiles? Textiles are a
type of cloth or woven fabric. This fabric or cloth is made from wool. The wool that the Flemish
people use to make the textiles is imported from England to France. The poor people of Flanders
were caught up in the dispute between England and France when the French want the Flemish to
side with them because the Flemish are French, but the English threaten to embargo the wool that
the Flemish use to make their textiles. This caused the Flemish to side with the English instead of
the French in the fact that they needed the wool to make money. The One Hundred Years war went
through many kings, went through the Black Death, was fought on French land, brought about
Joan of Arc, and made bitter relationships even more bitter. All of this was caused by three things
that may seem minor but ended up being major; An English boy s claim to the French throne,
territories that were inhabited by the English, and textiles made by the people who got caught in
the middle of a tug of war; The

Argumentative Essay On Stem Cell Technology
Technology is continuously evolving and creating new advancements in the medical field. These
developments can potentially cure lethal common diseases such as cancer. In the recent years, the
medical branch has made incredible progress; with discoveries such as technology for migraines
and new alternatives to treat cancer. The most modern cancer treatment is stem cells. Stem cells
have been in the process of development for almost fifty years. Stem cells are nonspecialized cells
that are able to transform into other types of cells. Stem cells are always present in our body, but
are more numerous in embryotic development. Researchers believe that soon, stem cells can lead to
the cure to cancer, or even cloning humans. Although cloning is controversial, it is still very
futuristic anyway. Stem cells have the potential to cure cancers, test medications, and test cell based
treatments.
Initially, the role stem cells play in the development of cancer is crucial. ... Show more content on

Stem cells can be conducted to repair damaged tissues in humans. As we know, cells are the basic
human structures of life. An organelle is made of cells, a group of cells make tissues, which makes
organs, organs are compiled and work together to make an organ system, which all comes together
to make an organism. Uncontrolled cell division is the basic definition of cancer. Stem cell usage
provides vital information about how undifferentiated stem cells can transform into differentiated1
cells that form tissues. Watching stem cells mature in to cells in bones, hearts, and other organs and
tissues can help doctors have a better understanding in the development of conditions and defects.
Scientist from the National Institutes of Health believes genes turning on and off is central to this
process. More knowledge on embryotic development may bear reason to how birth defect occur
and help reinforce new ways to treat uncontrollable cell

Discuss the Extent to Which a Reduction in the Rate of...
The definition of consumer expenditure is the amount of money spent by households in an
economy. The definition of investment is the spending by firms on capital good such as new
machines etc. Finally the definition of interest rates is the proportion of a loan that is charged as
interest to the borrower, normally expressed as an annual percentage. In the UK the interest rates
are set by the Monetary PolicyCommittee and are usually used in order to influence levels of
aggregate demand. Primarily, you must understand that lowering the rate of interest will make it
cheaper for people to borrow as well as make it cheaper to pay back existing loans. As a result, firms
may use this moneythat they have saved to spend on upgrading the... Show more content on

Furthermore, if the interest rate was low before the cut then it may not appear to have a very big
impact because people will have already have been taking advantage of the small cost of
borrowing. Obviously if the interest rate was very high discouraging people from borrowing and
in turn reducing consumer expenditure and investment by firms, then a rapid cut could see a high
rise in the aggregate demand. Moreover, if someone is in the middle of paying back a mortgage
on something like a house and interest rates fall they will effectively have more money because
they will not be paying more on top of their mortgage on interest.
On the other hand, the reasons for increases of consumer expenditure and investment levels as
mentioned above are only all valid if ceteris paribus is assumed. In reality, both factors of
aggregate demand can be affected by multiple other external factors for example, consumer
expenditure can be affected by the marginal prosperity to consume amongst consumers and
therefore if this is very low then a cut in interest will see a minimal change in consumption and
investment levels. In terms of consumers and firms if a large cut were to occur it would have a
far superior effect in comparison to a small cut which could potentially have no impact. As well as
this it can also be affected by the Income Elasticity ofDemand this means the responsiveness of the
demand for a good to a change in

Sexual Harrasment in the Workplace Essay
Sexual Harrasment in the Workplace Sexual Harassment in the workplace is something so
common, but ironically pushed aside which results in serious legal matter. What is sexual
harassment? Sexual harassment is a form of discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil
Rights Act of 1964. It also takes the form of unsolicited sexual advances, requests for sexual favors
and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Sexual harassment that interferes with an
individual s work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment
results in poor performance and lack of motivation.

With diversity in the work force growing so rapidly the differences in the lifestyles and personal
ethics the organization cannot afford to rely on an unwritten policy. The organization must realize
that complaints will be made and it should not be handled lightly. Organizations should periodically
update their policies reflecting the current times and situations. It should be mandatory to
implement sexual harassment polices and brief the employees of such policies.
On the other hand sexual harassment can be blown out of proportion. Some complaints that are
made are not always reasonable. An extensive investigation should be done to make sure that it is
legit and the complaint is not unfair. Perception from the receiver may be distorted from the actual
meaning. Some ways to determine the complaint is really constituted as a complaint are:
1. See if the behavior or act is constructed to be unwelcome, offensive or intimidating.
2. Make sure that there is a trend of the same or numerous complaints being reported.
3. Confirm that there was any implied or expressed sexual favors concerning the job retention,
promotion or any other issues benefiting the organization.
The best way to avoid sexual harassment in the work environment is prevention. Employers are
encouraged to take necessary steps to prevent sexual harassment from

Understanding The Current Epistemological Understanding
1. Describe your current epistemological understanding. Comment on the following issues: a.
Does a real world exist? In what form? Yes, a real world does exist. It is independent of the mind
as the world we live in is tangible, visible, and created with a purpose. As a Christian, I know the
world exist because God created it and recorded the creation story in Genesis. Additionally, God
created knowledge and wisdom including, general revelation. General revelation holds people
accountable for knowing the Maker of the Universe. The world exists in two forms an earthly
form and a spiritual form. The earthly form is the universe we live in and the spiritual form is

Moreover, when it comes to implementing Biblical principles into my classroom, I can be
confident that what I am teaching is accurate, true, and unchanging. The Bible is absolute truth and
the basis for righteous living. The implications for teaching my students, based off of the
information I give them or they discover, will include the history behind the information they are
learning. For example, when teaching mathematical formulas or principles, I can inform my
students about the philosophers and mathematicians who came before them and discovered the
information. In terms of biblical integration, I can explain to my students the biblical truths in a
way that is applicable to their everyday lives. Additionally, I will have the understanding that
knowledge is not absolute and a continuum of learning should be taking place at all times. I will
always be learning new things and will be able to implement them into my classroom. c. As a
teacher, will you ever consider that what you teach may be wrong? On what basis will you
evaluate the accuracy of what you teach? I will base the accuracy of the content I teach my students
upon the evidence of the accuracy of the material. I will use textbooks from a reputable source(s),
as well as researching the material being taught. Additionally, I will align the material I teach with
the state standards. Although, I will be confident in the content and information I am teaching my
students, I also realize that new

Literary Analysis Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
Cocar Poems just seem to be stanzas with a bunch of words but in reality, it is beyond just a bunch
of words, more like an intense significance. Many authors tend to send out an impacting message
throughout poems. Usually authors write poems about occurrences that they ve experienced to
express how they ve dealt with certain situations or people. Making it easy for the readers to also
catch on to their vibe and main idea of the whole poem. In Langston Hughes poem, Mother to Son
Hughes writing exemplifies the intricate trial and tribulations that a black person, specifically black
men have in this country. Hughes demonstrates through his writing about the staircase he s able to
explain the racial conflicts that many black peoplehad faced. With Hughes use of metaphors,
symbolism imagery he s able to perfect both a mother s concern for her child along with the
general concern many had with race relations at the time. Throughout the poem Mother to Son ,
Langston Hughes uses an informative tone to express how much the mother wants to guide her
son in what she has already been through. The metaphor that was seen in the poem was that the
staircase represented the mother s life. In Mother s to Son , Hughes writes, It s had tacks in it
and splinters . This is basically referring to the mother s suffering she had to live with in and out
of her life. Of course, tacks and splitters do not freeze your life and make everything impossible,
but with those two things you do endure pain. The next two lines, And boards torn up, and places
with no carpet on the floor (lines 5 6.) Hughes shows that no matter what hardships she had to face,
she continued with her life. The mother makes sure to explain clearly to her son that no matter
what life hit her with she battled through it all even when it was almost made impossible. The
Cocar metaphor used proves that she never gave in to her problems, she continued with all the scars
she got along the way reaching for the best. Chidi Ikonne, writing in the collection Langston
Hughes, suggests that this and other poems by Hughes present a stance of stability which,
ironically, has developed from the

The Space Of Space Exploration Essay
Introduction
One of the greatest unknowns within our human existence is life outside of our known universe;
decades of research, teamwork and funding have manifested phenomenal scientific triumphs in the
fields of space exploration and aeronautics. The forefront of this Space Race arguably began with
the Sputnik, a Russian artificial satellite launched in the late 1950 s. Following the launch of
Sputnik 1, the genesis of American competitive space exploration built roots in the formation of
NASA under the Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration was founded in 1958 under a premise of competitive space exploration and
continued discovery of truths residing outside of our existence on planet Earth. NASA externally
competes with other teams of space explorers, which primarily includes Russia s Federal Space
Agency, commonly called Roscosmos. However, moving away from Cold War competitiveness
and the race to build the biggest and best rockets, NASA has fostered over fifty years worth of the
most fortified and cohesive teamwork in the fields of science and aerospace engineering.
The unwavering cohesion of NASA engineers, scientists and explorers has exclusively demanded
the best and brightest to work on their teams. External pressures both on and off of the deployed
NASA spacecraft render their employees to work with the strongest teamwork achievable between
their highly diverse team members. NASA continues to recruit

The Sniper In Three Day Road
There are many ways of thinking of military snipers. They can be compared to predators in the
wild, a skillful killing machine that kills out of necessity and has the respect of their companions.
Snipers can also be thought of as prey. They are given a challenging task that requires skill to
elude the enemy and often preys upon their mental toughness. In Boyden s book Three Day Road
the author uses many passages to compare the role of a sniperto the role of both predator and prey
in the wilderness. These comparisons help the reader relate to the experiences of two indigenous
boyhood friends, Elijah and Xavier as snipers in World War 1. Instead of shooting caribou back
home in Canada as boys, they are now shooting German soldiers in the trenches... Show more

He is not so emotionally capable of taking a human life. He uses his experiences as a hunter to
cope with taking his first life as a sniper. He tells Elijah its easier for me to picture soldiers with
antlers on their heads (115). He uses his experiences killing caribou to cope with the stress of
killing enemy soldiers. As a sniper you must be focused on your target and the task at hand.
There is no time for second thoughts or to let your mind wonder. Xavier is not as focused as
Elijah. When Elijah fires a shot across to the Hun sniper, Xavier jumped the concussion makes
me jump a little, even though I am ready for it (118). This shows Xavier is more mentally on
edge. It shows his lack of confidence in his skills. This is reflected in his thoughts after they both
fire at the German sniper at the end of the chapter. Elijah s shot, and Xavier s bullet trailing a
ways behind, the Hun sniper never fired back. Xavier knew Elijah killed him. I can tell he is still
worried about himself being and accepting his role as a sniper. I wonder about myself, though (118).
As a sniper, you can either feel you are the predator or the prey. One mistake and you can give
away your position and you would not make it home. In the book Three Day Road by Joseph
Boyden, Xavier and Elijah find themselves as snipers in WW1. Xavier struggles emotionally with
his role as a killer. This stress preys on his emotions and makes

Debate Process Cost
Why Does The Probate Process Cost So Much?
When the time comes for your family to divide your estate according to your will, your family
will need to go through the costly and lengthy process of probate The larger your estate is, the
longer the process will take, and the more expensive it will be. Why does the probate process cost
so much? These are the different costs that are associated with probate.
Court Costs
Each state has their own set of fees that that court will charge for their services. They can range
between hundreds or thousands of dollars depending on what the court does.
For example, Massachusetts will charge $375 to petition the appointment of a trustee, plus an
additional $15 surcharge for each person that petitions. That is ... Show more content on

A basic estate with no more than a home and bank account can expect to pay minimal accounting
costs. If you have a much larger estate with stocks, bonds, property, a small business, and several
pieces of property, your accounting costs will be much greater. Accounting costs will even cover
filing an estate s federal tax return if it needs to be done.
Appraisal Costs
Your bank accounts are very easy to place a dollar value on, but other things are not. That is
where appraisal costs come in. To determine the total value of your estate, things such as real
estate and personal property will need to be appraised. Your estate will pay for the appraisal fees.
Miscellaneous Costs
Do not expect to get anything for free during the probate process. The estate will be charged for
things as small as postage needed to mail documents and notices. If there are costs associated with
storing, insuring, and moving personal property, those costs will be passed along to the estate as
well.
Thankfully, there are ways to minimize the amount of probate your family and friends will have to
go through. Work with an estate lawyer to find alternate ways to divide your

Marketing Concept Of Customer Generating Marketing
Customer generating marketing has become very popular nowadays given the explosion in digital
and social media. Engaging customers on a more personal interactive level is key to your bottom
line. The marketing concept suggests that company strategies should revolve around creating
customer value by engaging customers and building profitable relationships. In order for your
company to be successful, all members of the company must participate in marketing, not just the
marketing department. They must want to create value for the customer in order to engage them. It
is a team effort. That is why it is important to understand marketing and how you play a role or fit
in it.
A value delivery network is key to delivering customer value. Suppliers, distributors, employees, and
customers must work together closely to improve the performance of the entire system. Developing
differentiation in the market contributes in creating superior customer value in order to capture
value in return. Companies that understand their brand and communicate it well to their targeted
audience are going to achieve success. As consumers change, companies must change with them. If
they fail to adapt, it is a good chance they will be left behind. T Mobile is a good illustration of
creating differentiation and adapting to consumer changes in the market. Cellular customers have
become tired of being locked into two year agreements with their cellular providers. They wanted to
have the freedom of switching

Middle Passage Dbq
1st Paragraph In discussions of the Atlantic Slave Trade, the term Middle Passage often arises.
The Middle Passage was the stage of the triangular trade in which millions of Africans were
shipped to the New World as part of the Atlantic Slave trade. The journey was one of the most
horrific aspects of the morally deplorable system of slavery. Death was a constant threat as diseases,
starvation, asphyxiation and severe depression rampantly claimed the lives of African and the ship
s crew. Throughout this essay you will understand the tragic journey of the slaves and what
hardships they had to go through.
2nd paragraph According to Document C, another reliable source, is an excerpt from the Slave
Ship Doctor. Alexander Falconbridge, who served as a doctor on the slave ships claims that,
Their food is served up to them in tubs, about the size of a small water bucket. They are placed
around these tubs in companies of ten... If negroes refused to take sustenance, I have seen coals of
fire, glowing hot, put on shovel, and placed so near their lips, as to scorch and burn them. This
shows that when Falconbridge was treating the slaves he figured out the reasons as to what caused
their injuries. In the Slave Ship Diagram in Document D, it portrays how the compartments in the
boat were tightened up. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Interpretations Of American History, A Collaborative Team...

on the various perspectives on any one said historical issue. The editors sum up the entire book with
These volumes reflect our understanding that historyis an act of interpretation. Essentially, this book
offers a multitude of benefits for those who wish to further study history, but at the same time the
reader must take everything said with a grain of salt. Interpretations of American History is made

Another pro to this book is its ability to save time and effort. The editors have condensed their
opinions and the opinions of the brightest historical minds into one book. Rather than search the
internet for an assortment of interpretations on a given historical event, the reader can flip to the
desired event in the text. Because of this, the student can rest assured that the content has been
properly evaluated, found relevant, and is, therefore, worth the time to read. Such a time saving
benefit must not be overlooked. Also, the variety of viewpoints presented in this book help to
expand the reader s knowledge. The editors provide a well rounded collection of additional
works that show the reader some of the major theories on a historical event. Basically, a reader is
able to see historical issues through the eyes of professional historians. Interpretations of American
History does not merely state the facts, it allows the reader to decide where they stand on the
historical event in question. This can lead to a deeper, more profound study of history. However,
the reader must keep in mind that this book is fact based opinion. The editors and consulted
historians are adding their thoughts to the known facts. Although such speculation can open the
door to broader thinking, it can also trip up those who take the opinion as fact. If misinterpreted,
this book might muddy the waters of the reader s mind. Still, the book in no way attempts to hide its

The Principles Centered Leadership By Stephen R. Covey
Introduction
Through careful, calculated progression Principle centered Leadership presents a plan that first
prepares the leader him or herself, then illustrates how to use that leadership to manage an
organization. Author Stephen R. Covey introduces the notion that we as individuals and
organizations need to not only survive but also to thrive in the faces of adversity, change and
success. Despite their efforts to improve, countless companies continue to fail all the while
spending millions of dollars, time and effort every year. Reversing this requires the full measure of
individuals creativity, talent, and energy in the midst of this changing adversity. At the fundamental
root of this success is balance; balance in our personal life, family life, and professional life, which
is discussed in great detail throughout the text.
What Covey offers is principle centered leadership: a long term, intrinsic approach to developing
people and organizations. The key to dealing with today s challenges is the integration and
employment of a principle centered core within each individual as well as within an organization.
Covey offers insights and guidelines that demonstrate how these principles can be applied both at
work and at home which lead to an increase in our productivity and the quality of our work. It also
leads individuals to a new appreciation of the importance of establishing more personal and
professional relationships as they strive to enjoy a balanced, rewarding

Descriptive Essay About New York City
Looks like I didn t iron well enough last night. A wrinkle in my suit. A wrinkle in my best suit!

along the side of the sidewalk at regular intervals. Each bench was covered in rows of holes, but
you couldn t really tell because when you looked around, practically all you saw were mobs of
people, people milling around, people sitting on the benches, and more people. This was rush hour
in this part of New York City.
To Mr. Stevens right there was Central Park, and to his left were big gleaming grey buildings
that seemed to glower down on all the people. The most noticeable thing was the smell. Sewer
smell was dominant, and sometimes overwhelming (If you passed a drain or one of those trashy,
creepy, dark alleys), but since people were all around, you could also smell food, perfume,
makeup, lotion, and other scented products. All of the city and people smell clashed with the
sweet, organic scents of crisp leaves turning and the beginning of fall. Mr. Stevens had lived in this

The Trojan War Facts
Trojan War Myth/Fact Tell me, O Muse, of that ingenious hero who traveled far and wide after
he had sacked the famous town of Troy. (Butler 1835 1902) The epic poem The Iliad and The
Odyssey, is the story of the Greek struggle to rescue Queen Helen from the Trojan captors. Which
led to an all out war between the Achaean Greeks and the Trojans, the name of this war is called
the Trojan War. The Trojan War was a legendary conflict between the early Greeks and the people
of Troy in western Anatolia. In the original story, Paris, son of the Trojan king, ran off with Helen,
wife of Menelaus. Menelaus demanded to have her back, but the Trojans refused, so his brother
Agamemnon built a wooden horse that he took into battle with him and led a Greek... Show more

The war apparently lasted ten years, when the Greeks finally withdrew, leaving behind a large
wooden horse with a raiding party concealed inside. A man named Sinon was left behind and he
convinced the Trojans to bring the horse inside the city. When the Trojans bought the horse into
the city the party of Greeks opened up the horse and raided the city. Men were massacred, and
women carried off. It also states that the Gods found the war to be so interesting that they
participated themselves, and helped the Greeks take the city of Troy. No one really knows if
this war was a myth or a fact due to the fact that it is presented only briefly in an epic poem. In
order to find evidence of the war, historians have gone to the site of where the war would ve

Murders In The Rue Morgue
In The Murders in the Rue Morgue a story about solving a murder case, Edgar Allan Poe presents
a critique on strict logical analysis in life. Dupin struggles with accepting the logic of the police
that are trying to solve the murder, which is represented by Dupin s special reasoning power and
how Dupin knew what to do when the police could not find an answer to the murders (Poe 2 4).
With the changing of acts from Parts 1 2 to Part 3 Poe goes from vividly descriptive language on
ingenuity to a vicious critique on pure analytical thinking, Poe dismisses the common view at the
time that everything can, and should, be explained through analytical reasoning. The echoes of war
can be heard from the two forces trying to solve the murders. Poe... Show more content on

The second paragraph on the second page seems to say that Poe, like many other romantic
inspired writers at the time, sees that the power of unusual reasoning and analytical reasoning to
be two entirely different abilities (Poe). Poe even chooses to change his description of Dupin s
reasoning ability from special to unusual, signifying an uncanny ability that Dupin has that the
unnamed narrator has never experienced before(Poe 2). But at the end of the paragraph Poe
shows the harshness of Dupin s gift. Though Poe continues to use visual imagery such as, His
eyes looked empty and far away, his choice of descriptive terms begins to intensify (Poe 2). Two
Dupins suggests that Dupin himself has two sides to him, the special reasoning side and the
unusual reasoning side (Poe 2). The special reasoning side is seen as the one who coldly put
things together and the unusual reasoning aspect to Dupin is viewed as the part of him that
would just as coldly took them apart, which shows Poe s conflict with how much ingenuity should
be within a person (Poe 2). Already Poe is shifting from a complete trust in unbelievable reasoning
ability to a more skeptical view of it as a

Summary Of John Knowles A Separate Peace
A Separate Peace by John Knowles tells a story of the external and internal wars a person
experiences in their lifetime. During the summer session of 1942 at Devon Academy, introverted
student Gene Forrester follows in the footsteps of his carefree yet ambitious best friend, Phineas.
Gene starts to envy Finny s charisma rather than admire. The growth of his selfish desires to
transform into Finny contradicts Gene s morality, creating an internal conflict. Knowles conveys
one s selfishness causes decisions to be based on self concern rather than the well being of others.
For instance, Gene chooses to lie to Finny and the other boys during the mock trial to avoid
confrontation. He believes conflict would allow Finny to change his perception... Show more

Then at last Finny straightened from this prayerful position slowly; as though it was painful for
him (Knowles 172). Here, Gene s decision to lie to Finny reveals his selfish and deceitful side
overpowering his morality. He lies to preserve the untainted image that Finny held of him. He
completely disregards the impact it would have on Finny when he inevitably found out the truth
from someone other than him. When Gene did not return [Finny s] look it reveals his
immediate guilt and shame because he recognizes that this would have a negative impact not
only on Finny, but their friendship. In addition, Gene s selfish desires to fulfill his satisfaction
forces him to feel the necessity to shake the tree branch. Gene admits, [Finny] had never been
jealous of me for a second. Now I knew that there never was and never could have been any
rivalry between us. I was not of the same quality as he. I couldn t stand this (Knowles 59). In the
moments leading up to Finny s fall, Gene realizes the mutual rivalry and enmity between him and
Finny does not exist. Finny has no real enemy, re establishing Gene s inferiority to him knowing
his morals are not of the same quality as [Finny s]. His realization that he remains inferior angers
Gene and causes him to reveal his spitefulness when he shook the tree

Epilepsy Drug Therapies
Introduction:
This paper will focus on the history of epilepsy, the causes of the disease specifically its genetic
link and the evolution of drug therapies. My interest in this topic stems from working with people
with developmental disabilities in a group home setting, many of whom suffer from seizure
disorders. I understand that the disease carries a stigma and many people still hide that they have
the condition which why it s important to educate people about it.
According to Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, in the United States, it is estimated that
more than 3 million people have active epilepsy, with 200,000 new cases diagnosed each year
(2014, p. 1419). This is why it is an important disease to understand. According to Lewis et ... Show

This period was not without supernatural beliefs, so Epilepsy existed between these two

were more than just superstitious beliefs. Several different types of seizures were seen in this

discovered a correlation of these focal motor seizure onsets and their associated brain lesions in
laying the foundation of modern epileptology. (392). in 1772, Swiss Neurologist Samuel August

Patients with chronic epilepsy were taken to clinics or asylums for observation which brought

number of dedicated facilities built to care for people with Epilepsy. In these facilities, terms such
as absence, petit mal and grand mal were introduced which are still used to date. (392). It was also

Correspondence Between Vocal and Musical Emotion
Throughout history and across cultures, language and music prevail as defining characteristics of
humanity. This unique status as species specific traits has inevitably prompted a great deal of cross
domain comparisons, and much research has gone into identifying both similarities and differences
between the two systems (Patel 2008: 3). Intonation, or speech melody , has been hailed as the
point at which language and music meet (Bolinger 1972: 261). A frequently discussed yet under
researched aspect of this affiliation is the expression and communication of emotion. Though the
possibility of correspondence between vocal and musical emotion has concerned philosophers for
centuries, due to the interdisciplinary nature of the topic it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The sincerity of an emotional expression is appraised in terms of this conflict the closer a signal
comes to being determined by push effects, the more genuine it is taken to be (for example, a
scream of pain is interpreted as more true than a stereotyped vocal emblem such as ouch )
(Johnstone and Scherer 2000: 222). The influence of pull factors is somewhat restricted; in order
for an emotional expression to remain both credible and comprehensible, the signal cannot deviate
far from the underlying push effects (Johnstone and Scherer 2000: 222). Though the term emotion
is typically avoided when considering animal communication, there is some evidence for
similarities between animal affect vocalizations and physiologically influenced human expressions
(Scherer 1995: 236; Juslin and Laukka 2003: 773).
2.1.1 Basic emotions
There are, in theory, an infinite number of shades of possible human emotions. A crucial point of
difference between theories concerns how these emotions relate to one another (Sloboda and Juslin
2001: 76). The majority of research to date follows the concept of basic emotions; the notion that
there is a small number of discreet, innate, and universal emotion categories from which all other
emotions may be derived (Juslin and Laukka 2003: 771). Though there are slight labeling
discrepancies between theorists, the basic emotions are typically taken as

The Waste Of Waste Management
Society today revolves around consumption and advancement; we are always eager to buy the
latest things on the market, then trash them when its too outdated. Our consumer habits over the
years has changed our environment and created large landfills that have no end. Garbology, by
Edward Humes, exposes the issues pertaining to trash, that society chooses to ignore and informs
us on how we are the problem and solution. The book first highlights Puente Hills, the largest
landfill in America, located in Los Angeles, California. There was a lot of debates on towards
Puente Hills because although the landfill had controversy from citizens and politicians, it was a
primary source for trash disposal. The owner Big Mike, admires the landfill calling it a work of
art, but realized that the landfill imposes a lot of danger to us and our environment. Methods such
as burying, burning, and using trash as energy supply has been tested to reduce the amount of trash
in landfills. Companies such as Waste Management Inc. (largest trash company) was responsible for
dealing with trash and landfills, but failed to emphasize recyclingand reusable materials, which
increased our landfills. Many suggested power plants and moving our trash to other locations by
train, but those proposals had more cons that pros and became short lived.
The major social issues presented was over consumption that led to large landfills, overuse of
plastics, and trash in our oceans. Society as a whole face all these

Evaluation Of A Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation
Clinical Cooperating Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Positive reinforcement
plays a major role in the classroom management plan in my cooperating teacher s classroom. In
this fourth grade class, students are grouped in groups of four or five who work as a team to
earn marbles. Each group has a marble jar on their storage shelf in their group where the teacher
will add a variety of different sized marbles. Students can earn marbles for following directions,
answering questions, paying attention, helping others, being a good listener, and many other
positive behaviors and good choices. Different size marbles represent a different amount of
tickets that students can earn to use to purchase rewards. Some rewards include a free
homework pass, lunch with a friend, lunch with the teacher; sit in the rocking chair during
reading time, or choosing a prize from the prize box. As I observed the class, I realized this
system works really well for this group of students. The teacher would give the class directions.
For example, please get out your math journals and a pencil. The teacher did not have to say
anything about earning marbles. All she did was gather a handful of marbles, begin walking
around the room looking for a group who was following direction and ready to work. Once she
spotted a group doing what was asked, she placed the marbles in their jar. She followed the steps
until she was out of marbles. Students were ready to work fast. The clink

The Negative Culture In Deborah Tannen s The Argument Culture
Words are powerful, and they are one of the primary ways we use to create perspective on our
reality. The impact a single phrase or sentence can hold, could change millions of those around
us, or even in ourselves. In this case, why do we as a whole, use words to damage and bring ruin
upon our civilization that we so pride ourselves in? The notorious act of arguing seems to be the
downfall of man in the most prevailing of ways, which is captured delicately in Deborah Tannen s

This is a highly inefficient way of handling a conflict, yet it is the first we use to decide
important power holding figures in our government or the college student who gets the
scholarship that could change their life for the better. The lack of a proper base can also cause
media and news reporters to create or find another opposing view to create conflict as to make their
own article a more interesting read. This is where false reports of the Holocaust never happening
come in, and Deborah Tannen explains that even with numerous evidence and facts to prove that
this horrendous event did conspire, even living witnesses, the news and media still give attention to
these ludicrous statements as to gather a rise of emotion out of the reader or viewer. This argument
culture limits known knowledge, like the Holocaust actually happening, rather than expanding.

Pros And Cons Of Robber Barons
To decide upon which of either title the titans deserve more of, let us first consider what exactly
identifies and discerns a captain from a filthy baron. A captain of industry is a leader in their field.
The prosperity their expertise generates does not necessarily go to them. It advances or benefits the
entire economy. They create wealth. A robber baron, by comparison, focuses all their efforts on
creating or benefiting themselves, at the expense of society as a whole. They exploit wealth and
are filthy economic sell outs. Knowing the difference, it holds true that the super rich economic

Supply And Demand For Real Estate
INTRODUCTION
Within the property industry, the ever changing nature of the real estate market is affecting supply
and demand for real estate. As a result, a key issue stemming from reducing demand is increasing
office vacancy in Brisbane s central business district which reached a high of 15.6% in January
2015, according to the Property Council of Australia (2015). Current literature suggests that the lack
of demand can be attributed to negative net absorption by the government and resources sectors,
office over supply, low business confidence and high unemployment rates (Property Council of
Australia 2015). This is making office space difficult to lease, increasing financial stress on property
owners and changing how the office investment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Sense Of Suspense And Suspense In Get Out

Chris s encounter with the deerin the woods. Will the deer still be alive? Will the deer attack
Chris? Chris enters the woods and sees the deer laying on the ground, with its eyes open looking
up at Chris. At first, this scene did not make sense to me, but later on I realized that this scene
symbolized a hit and run. This scene is important because Chris s mother was killed in a hit and

Chris went to look in the woods for the deer, he too became paralyzed looking at the dying deer
laying on the ground. The deer symbol is brought up numerous times throughout the film to portray

scene allow Get Out to be successfully classified as a psychological thriller.

POL 3231 Constitutional Law
17 November 2014
Katz v. United States (1967) On the date of February 4th, 1965, believing that the Petitioner had
been using public pay phones to transmit illegal gambling wagers from Los Angeles to Miami and
Boston, the Federal Bureau of Investigation began their surveillance into the life of the Petitioner,
Charles Katz. Fifteen days later on February 19th, 1965 FBI agents working the case against the
Petitioner had gained access to a phone booth within a set of phone booths that the petitioner
frequented on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, and summarily recorded the petitioner s side of
conversations he was having on the phone within a booth nearby. This surveillance lasted until the
25th (excluding February 22, as no evidence was obtained due to technical difficulties) the date of
the petitioner s arrest, which took place immediately after he exited the same set of phone booths.
In this case there are two major constitutional questions which need to be addressed: (1) whether
evidence obtained by attaching an electronic listening and recording device to the top of a public
telephone booth used and occupied by the Petitioner is gathered in violation of the Fourth
Amendment, and (2) whether the search warrant used by the FBI officers in this case violated the

Dirt Road Symbolism
Symbolism is an important part of any story. It can inspire emotions that captivate the reader,
foreshadow aspects of a story, or introduce you to how a character is portrayed. Nothing
summarizes these aspects of symbolism like O Connor does in the story, A Good Man is Hard To
Find. Ranging from the dirt road to the big black hearse, they inspire the truth to unfold like words
could not do otherwise.
The dirt road was hilly and there were sudden washes in it and sharp curves on dangerous
embankments (O Connor). The way the road is described suggests that it is a metaphor for the
story itself. The story did not start out calm and smooth just as the dirt road as described in the
statement above. Then, using the dirt road as the metaphor, it could ... Show more content on

It was a big black battered hearse like automobile (O Connor). The black hearse represents death is
coming for them. The color black and hearses are usually indicators of funerals. With the car being
driven this way, it is implied that the driver may not be there to help them.
The Misfit sprang back as if a snake had bitten him and shot her three times through the chest (O
Connor). The number of times the grandmother was shot is symbolic to Christ dying and His
resurrection three days later. All her life she was spiritually dead, until she physically died. At the
moment of her impending death, the grandmother experienced a spiritual uplifting. Just like Jesus
lifted from Earth back to Heaven.
After the entire family is murdered, a possible significance of the mention of five or six graves
becomes clear ( Flannery O Connor. Galileo. Web.). The car contained six people: Bailey, his wife,
the grandmother, June Star, John Wesley, and the baby. If the baby is buried with her mom, they
will only need five gravestones. If the baby is not buried with the mother, they will need

AIS 3121 Theories of International Relations
Are companies more powerful than nation state in international relations?
Chak Shu Fai, 52626878
Introduction
This essay will focus on the influential relations between companies and nation states in
international relations. It is a serious issue because companies have raised the importance in
international relations, especially non governmental organizations (NGOs) and intergovernmental
organizations (IGOs). According to the data collected by the Union of International Associations,
there were over 66,000 international organizations, include NGOs and IGOs, in 300 countries and
territories in 2013. More approximately 1,200 new organizations are added each year (Sheldon,
2014). The major increasing numbers of the international organizations is one of the evidence to
show their powerful status in international relations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, it functions as a response to problems of incomplete information, transaction costs and
other barriers to improve the efficiency and welfare for their members (Barnett Finnemore, 1999).
The concept of powerful international organizations also can be found from professor Weiler
(2003), international organizations have increasingly themselves interpreted their powers in an
expansive manner that blurs the role of State consent, and States have increasingly conferred
broader public powers of governance on international organizations. There is no doubt that
international organizations have taken a deeper role in international relation, but it has different
degrees of influence toward small nation states and big countries. In order to have a clearer picture
of international organization s influence in international relations, the essay is divide in two part.
First, it comments on small nation state would be largely affected by

The Treaty Of The European Union
On Thursday, June 23rd, 2016, the United Kingdom invoked Article 50 of the Treaty of the
European Union and voted to whether or not to leave the European Union. This June 2016
referendum, which is most commonly known as Brexit, had the largest voter turnout in the United
Kingdom since the 1992 General Election, roughly 33.5 million voters. The referendum resulted
fifty two percent in favor of leaving the European Union. The separation process is difficult. By just
agreeing to the negotiations to separate from the European Union, there has been significant
political and economic impacts affecting the United Kingdomand the rest of the world. The day
following the vote that favored leaving the European Union, the Pound, Britain s currency, went
from $1.50 to $1.28, the lowest it s been in over three decades (Kottasova). In an effort to not deal
with the EU negotiations, David Cameron, the United Kingdom s Prime Minister, resigned from his
position on July 13th, effectively ending his six year holding on the position. Brexit is an example
of when nationalism and frustration mix together and motivates a society to make a decision
possible which was unforeseeable prior. It can be deduced that the three contributing factors to the
success of the Brexit vote are Economics, Nationalism, and Political Elitism. Understanding the
history of the relationships between the European Union, political parties in the United Kingdom,

What If I Just Lost Weight Essay
What if I just lost some weight... says most girls once in their life. Woman are constantly putting
their bodies through awful diets and harsh workouts, just to become perfect in someone else eyes.
Woman and young girls see figures of other women with a double zero pants size and ask why
can t I look like that? Today society puts too much pressure on young women to have the perfect
body. What society needs to say is all women are beautiful, there is no such thing as the perfect
body. Today, women are putting down other womanfor being a size fourteen. The men in our
society are not helping either, by making a woman feel her body is not excepted, by saying they
have a preference of a woman. Images like this get stuck in the average Americans mind and
they start to paint a picture of perfection. Women tend to be judged on the basis of what they
look like, not who they are, and the more positive the evaluation, the more likely a woman is to
be valued by others... (Strelan, P., Hargreaves, D. May 2005). America has this problem today
because of the media, the objectification of woman, and how women carry themselves. Within the
Media The media takes a big part in how people in society get their image of perfect. From music
videos, TV, beauty pageants, magazines, and social media all contribute to building the image of a
perfect woman. There is no way to avoid seeing these types of images because everyday citizens
encounter these types of media throughout the day.

Private And Privacy In The Medical Code Of Ethics
Exposing patient private and sensitive information can cause harm to the patient as well as his/her
relatives. This is the reason medical professionals are compelled by the law especially the HIPAA
privacy rule to ensure that patient personal information is kept private and confidential. Exposing
patient private and sensitive information is one of the unethical behaviors in the medical
profession. In medical profession, the code of ethicsensures that medical practitioners remain
professional (American Nurses Association 21). This ensures high quality service delivery as well
as ensuring that the patients are protected from any possible harm by the actions of the medics.
Privacy is one of the key issues in medical profession. The behavior of medical practitioners leaking
patient information is unethical and thus can harm the patient. Patient information has to be kept
private and thus the medics are compelled to ensure confidentially. However, there are various
circumstance in which the information can be shared. In medical profession, confidentially is
paramount and thus patients ought to be assured of their privacy. Some illnesses such as HIV
/AIDS can make the patient traumatized and thus such information has to remain confidential
between the medical practitioner and the patient (Kuo et al 25). The code of ethics on patient
privacy and confidentiality have been supported by Kantian ethics theory on individual morality.

Not all citizens of Laramie conveyed a negative view towards the LGBT community. Marge
Murray, together with some of the citizens, gave a notion of live and let live towards homosexuals.
Marge explains,
As far as the gay issue, I don t give a damn on one way or the other as long as they don t bother
me. And even if they did, I d just say no thank you. And that s the Attitude of most of the Laramie
population. They might poke one if they were in a bar situation, you know, they had been drinking,
they might actually smack one in the mouth, but they d just walk away. Most of em, they would
just say, I don t swing that way and whistle on about their business. Laramie is live and let live. (17)
Marge talked about how the citizens of Laramie practice a philosophy that life goes on. There are
times that they are bothered, and they exchange words and even physically hurt one another; but
that s it, they won t hold a grudge on one another. After such argument or fight, they ll just move on
and live another day. Marge pointed out that they practice the same view toward view about
homosexuality; they neither reject nor accept homosexual people.
There are also some citizens of Laramie that showed acceptance towards homosexuals. Father
Roger Schmit was one of them; he showed compassion and conveyed such resistance to violence

Matta Ballesteros Propaganda
Matta Ballesteros essentially served as a middleman between Mexico s Guadalajara cartel and
the Colombian cartels. He had been arrested as early as 1970 in the U.S. with 26 kilos of
cocaine, but escaped prison within a year. He also had many connections with the Honduran
military and helped finance a different unofficial cocaine coup. That one took place in Honduras
in 1978 and the CIA supported the military coup because the Honduran dictator, General Paz
Garcia, was a military ally. Clearly the U.S. government prioritized national security goals over
drug trafficking. Even the timing of Matta Ballesteros s capture was suspect. Ioan Grillo, author of
El Narco, noted how the U.S. government eventually used extreme and illegal means to capture
Matta Ballesteros, but the raid didn t take place until 12 days after the Contra/Sandinista ceasefire

the Danes, and is killed in battle with a dragon. Beowulf is a prime example of the hero
archetype. He is motivated by glory, always puts up a fair fight, and is willing to sacrifice himself

Beowulfis simply a narcissist, his characteristics make him an undeniable herofigure.

Michael Spera October 1, 2014 Christopher Parker GNHU 285 The average viewer might not
notice but there are a lot of differences between the Disney movie Hercules and the actual Greek
myth. The reason being that Disney was targeting a younger audience with their movie and did
not want to obviously put in some of the more graphic content of the actual myth. Some of the
main differences are that in the Greek myth Hercules has a very short temper and usually has
anger issues. These anger issues often get people accidentally killed. In the Disney movie he is
shown to be very nice and calm, this is done because they want him to seem more endearing and

  • 2. A Comparison Of The One Hundred Years War Between England... A war that lasted for 116 years, starting before the Black Plague, taking a break during the Plague, and starting again after the Black death ended. A war that went through many kings and started because of bitter rivalries. The One Hundred Years War between England and France was caused by Edward III s claim to Philip the Fair s throne, Englandholding fiefdoms in France, and the Flemish textiles made by the people of Flanders. Let s clear something up first. Edward III was the king of England and the grandson of Philip the Fair. Philip the Fair was the king of France before he died. When he died, his heir Charles IV became king of France, he died without an heir to the throne of France. Edward III was next in line to be the ruler of France, but seeing as he was only fifteen and the king of England at the time, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They make textiles which are then sold to the people of France. What are textiles? Textiles are a type of cloth or woven fabric. This fabric or cloth is made from wool. The wool that the Flemish people use to make the textiles is imported from England to France. The poor people of Flanders were caught up in the dispute between England and France when the French want the Flemish to side with them because the Flemish are French, but the English threaten to embargo the wool that the Flemish use to make their textiles. This caused the Flemish to side with the English instead of the French in the fact that they needed the wool to make money. The One Hundred Years war went through many kings, went through the Black Death, was fought on French land, brought about Joan of Arc, and made bitter relationships even more bitter. All of this was caused by three things that may seem minor but ended up being major; An English boy s claim to the French throne, territories that were inhabited by the English, and textiles made by the people who got caught in the middle of a tug of war; The ... • 3. Argumentative Essay On Stem Cell Technology Technology is continuously evolving and creating new advancements in the medical field. These developments can potentially cure lethal common diseases such as cancer. In the recent years, the medical branch has made incredible progress; with discoveries such as technology for migraines and new alternatives to treat cancer. The most modern cancer treatment is stem cells. Stem cells have been in the process of development for almost fifty years. Stem cells are nonspecialized cells that are able to transform into other types of cells. Stem cells are always present in our body, but are more numerous in embryotic development. Researchers believe that soon, stem cells can lead to the cure to cancer, or even cloning humans. Although cloning is controversial, it is still very futuristic anyway. Stem cells have the potential to cure cancers, test medications, and test cell based treatments. Initially, the role stem cells play in the development of cancer is crucial. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stem cells can be conducted to repair damaged tissues in humans. As we know, cells are the basic human structures of life. An organelle is made of cells, a group of cells make tissues, which makes organs, organs are compiled and work together to make an organ system, which all comes together to make an organism. Uncontrolled cell division is the basic definition of cancer. Stem cell usage provides vital information about how undifferentiated stem cells can transform into differentiated1 cells that form tissues. Watching stem cells mature in to cells in bones, hearts, and other organs and tissues can help doctors have a better understanding in the development of conditions and defects. Scientist from the National Institutes of Health believes genes turning on and off is central to this process. • 4. Discuss the Extent to Which a Reduction in the Rate of... The definition of consumer expenditure is the amount of money spent by households in an economy. The definition of investment is the spending by firms on capital good such as new machines etc. Finally the definition of interest rates is the proportion of a loan that is charged as interest to the borrower, normally expressed as an annual percentage. In the UK the interest rates are set by the Monetary PolicyCommittee and are usually used in order to influence levels of aggregate demand. Primarily, you must understand that lowering the rate of interest will make it cheaper for people to borrow as well as make it cheaper to pay back existing loans. As a result, firms may use this moneythat they have saved to spend on upgrading the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, if the interest rate was low before the cut then it may not appear to have a very big impact because people will have already have been taking advantage of the small cost of borrowing. Obviously if the interest rate was very high discouraging people from borrowing and in turn reducing consumer expenditure and investment by firms, then a rapid cut could see a high rise in the aggregate demand. Moreover, if someone is in the middle of paying back a mortgage on something like a house and interest rates fall they will effectively have more money because they will not be paying more on top of their mortgage on interest. On the other hand, the reasons for increases of consumer expenditure and investment levels as mentioned above are only all valid if ceteris paribus is assumed. In reality, both factors of aggregate demand can be affected by multiple other external factors for example, consumer expenditure can be affected by the marginal prosperity to consume amongst consumers and therefore if this is very low then a cut in interest will see a minimal change in consumption and investment levels. In terms of consumers and firms if a large cut were to occur it would have a far superior effect in comparison to a small cut which could potentially have no impact. As well as this it can also be affected by the Income Elasticity ofDemand this means the responsiveness of the demand for a good to a change in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Literary Analysis Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Cocar Poems just seem to be stanzas with a bunch of words but in reality, it is beyond just a bunch of words, more like an intense significance. Many authors tend to send out an impacting message throughout poems. Usually authors write poems about occurrences that they ve experienced to express how they ve dealt with certain situations or people. Making it easy for the readers to also catch on to their vibe and main idea of the whole poem. In Langston Hughes poem, Mother to Son Hughes writing exemplifies the intricate trial and tribulations that a black person, specifically black men have in this country. Hughes demonstrates through his writing about the staircase he s able to explain the racial conflicts that many black peoplehad faced. With Hughes use of metaphors, symbolism imagery he s able to perfect both a mother s concern for her child along with the general concern many had with race relations at the time. Throughout the poem Mother to Son , Langston Hughes uses an informative tone to express how much the mother wants to guide her son in what she has already been through. The metaphor that was seen in the poem was that the staircase represented the mother s life. In Mother s to Son , Hughes writes, It s had tacks in it and splinters . This is basically referring to the mother s suffering she had to live with in and out of her life. Of course, tacks and splitters do not freeze your life and make everything impossible, but with those two things you do endure pain. The next two lines, And boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor (lines 5 6.) Hughes shows that no matter what hardships she had to face, she continued with her life. The mother makes sure to explain clearly to her son that no matter what life hit her with she battled through it all even when it was almost made impossible. The Cocar metaphor used proves that she never gave in to her problems, she continued with all the scars she got along the way reaching for the best. Chidi Ikonne, writing in the collection Langston Hughes, suggests that this and other poems by Hughes present a stance of stability which, ironically, has developed from the ... • 8. The Space Of Space Exploration Essay Introduction One of the greatest unknowns within our human existence is life outside of our known universe; decades of research, teamwork and funding have manifested phenomenal scientific triumphs in the fields of space exploration and aeronautics. The forefront of this Space Race arguably began with the Sputnik, a Russian artificial satellite launched in the late 1950 s. Following the launch of Sputnik 1, the genesis of American competitive space exploration built roots in the formation of NASA under the Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was founded in 1958 under a premise of competitive space exploration and continued discovery of truths residing outside of our existence on planet Earth. NASA externally competes with other teams of space explorers, which primarily includes Russia s Federal Space Agency, commonly called Roscosmos. However, moving away from Cold War competitiveness and the race to build the biggest and best rockets, NASA has fostered over fifty years worth of the most fortified and cohesive teamwork in the fields of science and aerospace engineering. The unwavering cohesion of NASA engineers, scientists and explorers has exclusively demanded the best and brightest to work on their teams. External pressures both on and off of the deployed NASA spacecraft render their employees to work with the strongest teamwork achievable between their highly diverse team members. NASA continues to recruit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Sniper In Three Day Road There are many ways of thinking of military snipers. They can be compared to predators in the wild, a skillful killing machine that kills out of necessity and has the respect of their companions. Snipers can also be thought of as prey. They are given a challenging task that requires skill to elude the enemy and often preys upon their mental toughness. In Boyden s book Three Day Road the author uses many passages to compare the role of a sniperto the role of both predator and prey in the wilderness. These comparisons help the reader relate to the experiences of two indigenous boyhood friends, Elijah and Xavier as snipers in World War 1. Instead of shooting caribou back home in Canada as boys, they are now shooting German soldiers in the trenches... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is not so emotionally capable of taking a human life. He uses his experiences as a hunter to cope with taking his first life as a sniper. He tells Elijah its easier for me to picture soldiers with antlers on their heads (115). He uses his experiences killing caribou to cope with the stress of killing enemy soldiers. As a sniper you must be focused on your target and the task at hand. There is no time for second thoughts or to let your mind wonder. Xavier is not as focused as Elijah. When Elijah fires a shot across to the Hun sniper, Xavier jumped the concussion makes me jump a little, even though I am ready for it (118). This shows Xavier is more mentally on edge. It shows his lack of confidence in his skills. This is reflected in his thoughts after they both fire at the German sniper at the end of the chapter. Elijah s shot, and Xavier s bullet trailing a ways behind, the Hun sniper never fired back. Xavier knew Elijah killed him. I can tell he is still worried about himself being and accepting his role as a sniper. I wonder about myself, though (118). As a sniper, you can either feel you are the predator or the prey. One mistake and you can give away your position and you would not make it home. In the book Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden, Xavier and Elijah find themselves as snipers in WW1. That is where appraisal costs come in. To determine the total value of your estate, things such as real estate and personal property will need to be appraised. The marketing concept suggests that company strategies should revolve around creating customer value by engaging customers and building profitable relationships. In order for your company to be successful, all members of the company must participate in marketing, not just the marketing department. They must want to create value for the customer in order to engage them. It is a team effort. That is why it is important to understand marketing and how you play a role or fit in it. A value delivery network is key to delivering customer value. Suppliers, distributors, employees, and customers must work together closely to improve the performance of the entire system. Developing differentiation in the market contributes in creating superior customer value in order to capture value in return. Companies that understand their brand and communicate it well to their targeted audience are going to achieve success. As consumers change, companies must change with them. If they fail to adapt, it is a good chance they will be left behind. T Mobile is a good illustration of creating differentiation and adapting to consumer changes in the market. • 12. Middle Passage Dbq 1st Paragraph In discussions of the Atlantic Slave Trade, the term Middle Passage often arises. The Middle Passage was the stage of the triangular trade in which millions of Africans were shipped to the New World as part of the Atlantic Slave trade. The journey was one of the most horrific aspects of the morally deplorable system of slavery. Death was a constant threat as diseases, starvation, asphyxiation and severe depression rampantly claimed the lives of African and the ship s crew. Throughout this essay you will understand the tragic journey of the slaves and what hardships they had to go through. 2nd paragraph According to Document C, another reliable source, is an excerpt from the Slave Ship Doctor. Alexander Falconbridge, who served as a doctor on the slave ships claims that, Their food is served up to them in tubs, about the size of a small water bucket. They are placed around these tubs in companies of ten... If negroes refused to take sustenance, I have seen coals of fire, glowing hot, put on shovel, and placed so near their lips, as to scorch and burn them. Essentially, this book offers a multitude of benefits for those who wish to further study history, but at the same time the reader must take everything said with a grain of salt. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another pro to this book is its ability to save time and effort. The editors have condensed their opinions and the opinions of the brightest historical minds into one book. Rather than search the internet for an assortment of interpretations on a given historical event, the reader can flip to the desired event in the text. Because of this, the student can rest assured that the content has been properly evaluated, found relevant, and is, therefore, worth the time to read. Such a time saving benefit must not be overlooked. Also, the variety of viewpoints presented in this book help to expand the reader s knowledge. The editors provide a well rounded collection of additional works that show the reader some of the major theories on a historical event. Basically, a reader is able to see historical issues through the eyes of professional historians. Interpretations of American History does not merely state the facts, it allows the reader to decide where they stand on the historical event in question. This can lead to a deeper, more profound study of history. However, the reader must keep in mind that this book is fact based opinion. The editors and consulted historians are adding their thoughts to the known facts. Can t miss it, can t miss it, can t miss it! With that, he resumed his hurried walk down the grubby streets of New York City. The sidewalks were marked with blue benches that appeared along the side of the sidewalk at regular intervals. Each bench was covered in rows of holes, but you couldn t really tell because when you looked around, practically all you saw were mobs of people, people milling around, people sitting on the benches, and more people. This was rush hour in this part of New York City. To Mr. Stevens right there was Central Park, and to his left were big gleaming grey buildings that seemed to glower down on all the people. The most noticeable thing was the smell. Sewer smell was dominant, and sometimes overwhelming (If you passed a drain or one of those trashy, creepy, dark alleys), but since people were all around, you could also smell food, perfume, makeup, lotion, and other scented products. Dupin struggles with accepting the logic of the police that are trying to solve the murder, which is represented by Dupin s special reasoning power and how Dupin knew what to do when the police could not find an answer to the murders (Poe 2 4). With the changing of acts from Parts 1 2 to Part 3 Poe goes from vividly descriptive language on ingenuity to a vicious critique on pure analytical thinking, Poe dismisses the common view at the time that everything can, and should, be explained through analytical reasoning. But at the end of the paragraph Poe shows the harshness of Dupin s gift. Though Poe continues to use visual imagery such as, His eyes looked empty and far away, his choice of descriptive terms begins to intensify (Poe 2). Two Dupins suggests that Dupin himself has two sides to him, the special reasoning side and the unusual reasoning side (Poe 2). The special reasoning side is seen as the one who coldly put things together and the unusual reasoning aspect to Dupin is viewed as the part of him that would just as coldly took them apart, which shows Poe s conflict with how much ingenuity should be within a person (Poe 2). Knowing the difference, it holds true that the super rich economic titans of industry shouldn t be particularly referred to as captains or barons. All titans, from Commodore Vanderbilt to J.P. After coming to the realization that Rose hit a deer, Chris gets out of the car and hears the deer whining in the woods. Chris then goes to investigate the woods for the deer and Jordan Peele incorporates mysterious music and close up shots of Chris to create a feeling of suspense for us. We become anxious and become concerned for Chris s encounter with the deerin the woods. Will the deer still be alive? Will the deer attack Chris? Chris enters the woods and sees the deer laying on the ground, with its eyes open looking up at Chris. At first, this scene did not make sense to me, but later on I realized that this scene symbolized a hit and run. This scene is important because Chris s mother was killed in a hit and run and when Chris found out that his mother had died, he became emotionally paralyzed. When Chris went to look in the woods for the deer, he too became paralyzed looking at the dying deer laying on the ground. The deer symbol is brought up numerous times throughout the film to portray the hit and run concept. The suspense and mystery created by the camera shots and sound in this scene allow Get Out to be successfully classified as a psychological thriller. Additionally, Get Out portrays Chris s mental state in a bewildering scene known as the sunken place. Missy is a psychiatrist in Get Out and claims that she can help Chris quit smoking. United States (1967) On the date of February 4th, 1965, believing that the Petitioner had been using public pay phones to transmit illegal gambling wagers from Los Angeles to Miami and Boston, the Federal Bureau of Investigation began their surveillance into the life of the Petitioner, Charles Katz. Fifteen days later on February 19th, 1965 FBI agents working the case against the Petitioner had gained access to a phone booth within a set of phone booths that the petitioner frequented on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, and summarily recorded the petitioner s side of conversations he was having on the phone within a booth nearby. This surveillance lasted until the 25th (excluding February 22, as no evidence was obtained due to technical difficulties) the date of the petitioner s arrest, which took place immediately after he exited the same set of phone booths. In this case there are two major constitutional questions which need to be addressed: (1) whether evidence obtained by attaching an electronic listening and recording device to the top of a public telephone booth used and occupied by the Petitioner is gathered in violation of the Fourth Amendment, and (2) whether the search warrant used by the FBI officers in this case violated the Fourth Amendment to the constitution in that the warrant was (a) not founded on probable cause; (b) an evidentiary search warrant and (c) a general search ... It can inspire emotions that captivate the reader, foreshadow aspects of a story, or introduce you to how a character is portrayed. Nothing summarizes these aspects of symbolism like O Connor does in the story, A Good Man is Hard To Find. Ranging from the dirt road to the big black hearse, they inspire the truth to unfold like words could not do otherwise. The dirt road was hilly and there were sudden washes in it and sharp curves on dangerous embankments (O Connor). The way the road is described suggests that it is a metaphor for the story itself. This first would be the more traditional route of teaching music history at a college or university, which I believe would be a path I would thoroughly enjoy. The second path I have considered is combining my love of musicology with the need I see in our culture to teach high school students higher thinking, writing and communication skills. I would love to develop a curriculum that uses musicology as a vehicle to improve these skills for college preparation. I would like to write my thesis on the performance practice of a variety of folk styles, based on the historical heritage of the style.
