Walter Elias Disney Essay
Walter Elias Disney
Disney has become a household name in American society, but most people are not aware of Walt
Disney s struggles before becoming one of the twentieth century s most prominent and successful
animators and film directors. Walt Disney is best know for his characters Mickey Mouse, Donald
Duck, Pluto, Goofy, and Minnie Mouse, but his company can also be credited with achievements
such as the first fully synchronized sound picture, Steamboat Willie , the first full color animation,
Flowers and Trees , and the first full length animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs .
Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois to Elias Disney and Flora
Call. Walt was the youngest of four boys... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this was short lived because he decided to join the Red Cross near the end of World
War Two. He was sent to France to be an ambulance driver. For an extra fifteen francs a week,
Walt painted signs for the camp that showed military and Red Cross personnel where things were
located, such as an arrow over a large mug pointing towards the canteen. When he returned home,
his father offered him a job at the jelly factory, but Walt had plans of moving to Kansas City and
becoming a cartoonist. His father did not think much of this, which emulated Walt s distant
relationship with his father. He moved in with Roy in Kansas City, who was renting a room from
their older brother Herbert. Roy found Walt a job with Pesmen Rubin Agency, and advertising
agency in Kansas City, but after the busy season, Walt was let go, as was his friend Eb Iwerks, and
eventually the two started the company Iwerks and Disney...Commercial Artists.
Iwerks and Disney eventually fell through, but Walt was determined to succeed, and he read as
many books and magazine articles about cartooning and cinematic animation as he could get his
hands on. After a while, Walt began working for the Kansas City Film Ad Company. On the side
he began his own company called Laugh O Gram Films, Inc. During this time Walt and Iwerks did
a series of seven minute fairy tales entitled Alice in Cartoonland, which contained a

Technology vs Organic Essay example
Humanity s timeline illustrates the past, present and future of human beings; commencing nearly
200,000 years ago when Homo sapiens first diverged from its ancestors (Evans,1998). For the next
188,000 years humans were content to forge and live within the constructs of a hunter gatherer
societal organization. Approximately 12,000 years ago agricultural systems began appearing in
various places around the world. An astonishingly short period of time later the Agricultural
Revolution transformed human ecology, social organization, demography, culture, and religion
(Fagan: 2007). Man wholeheartedly embraced the sweeping changes bought on by agricultureand
domestication, which definitely proved key to the long run success of agriculture and... Show more

The pronounced change from hunting and gathering to agriculture and domestication can be
simplistically designated the Agricultural or Neolithic Revolution (Pringle:1998). The catalytic
developments of the Neolithic Revolution mark a major turning point in the history of humankind.
The resulting animal and plant domestication established the foundation on which modern
civilization was built. Agriculture is a uniquely human activity and is perhaps the п¬Ѓrst activity
for which humans developed technology. Technology, understood as the use of farming tools and
techniques, is an indispensable component in agriculture. In the most general sense, technology
permits humans to increase the capture and efficient utilization of solar radiation that drives
primary plant production that is the basis of the human food and п¬Ѓber chain (Porter, Rasmusen:
2009). The steadfast characterization of human nature can be viewed as a historical constant,
while the prevailing woes and dilemmas facing humanity can be viewed as a contemporary
variable. Similarly to an algebraic equation, clever manipulation of the variable and constant
portion can lead to discovering the value of the variable or as in the case of humanity; it can
provide valuable insight on complex problems based on the past experiences of people who are

The Behaviors Vanessa Wolf
There was once a pack of wolves who lived in Roundup, Minnesota. The wolves each had a
special power. The leader had the strongest power. The leader could heal, create and throw fire,
and control water. But the best power was the power to hypnotize. The leader was a female, and
her name was Vanessa Wolf. Her pack was called The Saviors. The pack was made of 5 million
wolves. Everyone knew them as the pack that protected the animalsof the world. Vanessa would
use her hearing as her source to sense the animals in danger in the world. When the pack of 5
million wolves was running to get to the animal or animals in trouble, you could hear them running
from miles away. The pounding on the ground was so intense it created earthquakes.
One day when Vanessa Wolf was out by herself she heard an animal cry for help. She used her
water power, to lift her up so that she could see everywhere. She saw a cow about to be taken out

time they went, they ran in the same path. The Saviors created a huge dent in the earth s ground.
The dent continued to get worse and it became a canyon. One day when Bradley howled,
Vanessa and The Saviors went but got stuck in the canyon. They never made it to Oro Valley.
They were stuck in the canyon for years. One day there was a huge earthquake created by
Bradley s pack and the earth buried Vanessa and The Saviors underground forever. After the huge

created a new pack called The Saviors Forever. Vanessa s spirit commands The Saviors Forever

Marc Ching and his organization Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation and their reckless

knowledge of health care is that it was a system of home care remedies with doctors with little

insurance, technological advancement, and the professional utilization of doctors, it would be very
ignorant not to say that health care has evolved from what it was to what it is now. Manage care

Lying Definition Essay
What defines a lie, and what do people believe about lying? Well, a lie is a false statement made
with deliberate intent to deceive, and certain people think that lying can be effective in different
situations. As many people know, lying is often seen as a horrible trait. In some situations, lying
can be used to benefit on or the other. These four articles, information about when lying appropriate,
when to use lie, and/or how to lie. This point of view justifies how lying can be a benefit to the
liar, and to others. To begin with, there are multiple of ways to lie, and different ways that lying
can justified. Lying can be used for the greater good, or in negative ways. For example, Tim, 18,
said the key to being good at lying is to keep it simple. If you get caught in a lie, he said, tell
another one, and then tell another one to cover that one up, but keep it simple. You keep it
simple so you can recap it in your head and keep your story straight. (Article 4). This shows that
lying to people is terrible. However, lying is an option in order to escape from another lie. Since
lying is not positive, it is not very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To others, it is okay if you do it in a right way. The key to lying is not to tell a whole lie or a whole
truth. This shows that when lying you should not tell a whole lie, or a whole truth. When lying, it
is crucial to keep it simple in order to lie the right way without other details. For example, Among
the groups most likely to say lying is sometimes OK: people aged 18 29, college graduates and
those with higher household incomes. People have this idea that lying is bad. (Article 1). This
demonstrates that most people have an idea that lying is bad. One can also see from this view is
that some groups justify lying, and believe that it is okay. The author of this article wants the
reader to understand that there are ways to tell a lie and that lying under some circumstances may be

The Self Through Self Examination
Betterment of the self through self examination seems like a fundamental idea; however, what
occurs more often than not in today s social media driven climate is not examining oneself, but
instead, comparing oneself to others. Which do you think is more beneficial? It s much easier to
make assumptions about the other and compare yourself to your own idea of the other, rather than
look inward and try to see past the assumptions of yourself and find your inner truth. It s not easy
to resist the idea of rating yourself in comparison to others since it is in human nature to want to
place yourself within a system of cultural values in order to determine your position in a cultural
matrix. This kind of comparison is mentally taxing, socially... Show more content on

To shift the examination inward towards the self is the only way we could hope to understand our
placement in our nation s grand cultural matrix.
One of the most difficult things that we can do in a culture that is so surrounded by judgment is to
not accept these judgments placed on ourselves, as well as others, as finite. Values placed on
yourself by others reduces you to a statement, to words, to a sporadic thought that was devised in
the mind of the other. When we accept other s judgments as fact, we have devalued our own
judgments which brings up the interesting concept of being able to justly judge yourself. To
define one s eyes is almost impossible since we see differently day to day. It is difficult to do
yourself justice with a heavy and sure gavle that judges harshly. When we leave the self
inappropriable and admit that we can t know ourselves, let alone the other, entirely, we may not
feel satisfied; however, it s imperative to admit our lack of understanding of ourselves, so we
can continue to define ourselves. When we accept the judgment of others as fact we are in turn
being lethargic by not interrogating our ever changing selves. It is true the inability to define
oneself fully is a miracle; it is true that knowing yourself fully would leave no room for further
discovery, but is it a gift never to know oneself fully? That is one question that we will never
know the answer to. To properly interrogate yourself is to learn how to appreciate yourself

Suspense in Bram Stoker s Epistolary Novel Dracula
Suspense in Bram Stoker s Epistolary Novel Dracula
Bram Stoker uses the epistolary narrative to create suspense in Dracula by drawing the reader
into the personal lives (through the characters diary entries and letters) and allowing him to
experience the events of the novel on an intimate level. Each character provides a first hand, first
person perspective, unique for that specific character s sex, level of education, profession, and
state in life, as well as for that character s ability to create an atmosphere of dread through
description of the scene. This paper will show how the different characters use their own
experiences to create suspense in Stoker s Dracula.
The novel is subtitled a A Mystery Story, and each chapter is a portion of one of the characters
journal, diary or letter, providing clues as to the nature of Dracula and how to thwart his evil
intentions. The story begins with Jonathan Harker s journal, which is conveniently recorded in
shorthand (1), giving the narrative a quick pace and a personal touch. Harker includes mental notes
such as, Mem., get recipe for Mina, while noting the details of his dinner, which establishes his
connections/relationships, status in life, etc., without much interrupting the narrative flow. Before
the reader realizes it, he is immersed in the diarist s life.

behavior. Harker s impressions provide the reader with a

History of Cloning Essay
History of Cloning
Although the word itself has only been around for only four decades, the idea of creating an
organism identical to another has been around for centuries. Even nature has utilized this process.
The actual process of artificially cloning has been around since before 1900s, even though it is
heard of more often in the modern world. Cloning began in 1894 with the first clone of an
organism. Hans Dreisch was able to clone a sea urchin, and his research led to Hans Spemann s
multiple attempts and successes of cloning throughout his science years. As technology advanced,
Robert Briggs and Thomas King used Spemann s results to create the process of nuclear transfer
used in modern cloning techniques. After many debates over ... Show more content on

4). This experiment and others disproved Wilhelm Roux and August Weismann s theory that stated:
The egg and sperm contribute chromosomes equally to the zygote. The chromosomes are carriers
of the hereditary potentials, and the germ cells (gametes) of the embryo are the only ones to carry
the complete set of hereditary potentials (nuclear determinants), whereas each somatic (body) cell
type contains only part of these potentials required for the specific cell type (Berardino 2).
By separating the cells of a single developing embryo to create two organisms, Dreisch proved that
the somatic cell contains all hereditary information.
The next successful cloning experiment was conducted in 1902 by German Dr. Hans Spemann on
salamander embryos, producing twins. Spemann split the embryo using a strand of hair from his
newborn son, and the two resulting cells grew into normal adult salamanders. These salamanders
were artificially created identical twins. He repeated his experiments many times, and created
mutant creatures. He concluded that in order to create a normal organism, the cloning process
must be completed before what he called determination, or the stage in growth where cells
specialize into different cells for different parts of the body. This stage is completed in the early
growth of an embryo (Cheng n.p.). However, cloning in mammals remained impossible, due to the
fact that mammal eggs are invisible to the naked eye, while amphibian

Absorption
Alcohol is absorbed from all parts of the gastrointestinal tract largely by simple diffusion into the
blood. However the small intestine is by far the most efficient region of the gastrointestinal tract
for alcohol absorption because of its very large surface area. In a fasting individual, it is generally
agreed that 10% to 20% of a dose of alcohol is absorbed from the stomach (the volume of alcohol
affects the absorption) and 75% to 80% is absorbed from the small ... Show more content on

Alcohol Content
It s not how many drinks that you have, but how much alcohol that you consume. The concentration
of the drinks that one ingest can have a slight effect on the peak alcohol concentration due to the
differences in absorption rate of different concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol is most rapidly
absorbed when the concentration of the drink is between 10% and 30%. Below 10% the
concentration gradient in the gastrointestinal tract is low and slows absorption and the added
volumes of liquid involved slow gastric emptying. On the other hand concentrations higher than
30% tend to irritate the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and the pyloric sphincter,
causing increased secretion of mucous and delayed gastric emptying.
Food
Food taken along with alcohol results in a lower, delayed blood alcohol concentration peak (the
point of greatest intoxication). There are two major factors involved in this phenomenon.
First, because alcohol is absorbed most efficiently in the small intestine, the ingestion of food can
slow down the absorption of alcohol into one s system. The pyloric valve at the bottom of the
stomach will close in order to hold food in the stomach for digestion and thus keep the alcohol from
reaching the small intestine.

Character Analysis Of The Godfather
The Godfather was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and was released in 1972. It starred Al
Pacino and Marlon Brando as the two main characters. This movie is one of the best films to
grace the big screen to this date. It has a very well executed plot as well. I like this movie a lot,
portrays generally unlikeable characters in a sympathetic light and by the end of the movie you
are truly rooting for them. I like that Coppola takes a very unlikeable subject and generally bad
people and turns them into people that you are rooting for and want them to generally succeed. The
way Coppola does this is through the way he develops the characters. The development of these
mobsters throughout this movie is fantastic. Michael Corleone(Al Pacino) is the epitome of this
concept. At the beginning he is a returning Veteran who wants nothing to do with the family
crime business. By the end he has transformed to a ruthless yet caring mob boss. He has a
personal conflict that most people can relate to. He is conflicted between pleasing his parents and
pleasing himself. In the end he takes a hybrid route choosing to be a caring yet ruthless mob boss;
separating business and personal matters. Michael may be the best example, but the whole
Corleone family is very relatable. George Ebert would agree:
The movie (based on a script labored over for some time by Puzo and then finally given form, I
suspect, by director Francis Ford Coppola) gets the same feel. We tend to identify with Don
Corleone s family not because we dig gang wars, but because we have been with them from the
beginning, watching them wait for battle while sitting at the kitchen table and eating chow mein
out of paper cartons. (Ebert) The plot starts with Don Vito Corleone(Marlon Brando) taking care
of Mob business during his daughter s wedding. During the wedding, Michael returns home from
fighting in World War 2. After the wedding Don Vito is offered to be let in on the Narcotics Trade.
Don Vito seeing this as inhumane refuses the offer. This refusal causes an assassination attempt on
Don Vito. While he is being nursed back to health, his 3 sons (Sonny, Fredo, and Michael) try to
take revenge on the assassin. Unfortunately for them, they hit the wrong people

Explain Lee Canter s Model Of Assertive Discipline
Assertive discipline model: This model is by Lee Canter and he believes that practitioners should
follow steps to assertive discipline. All together there are five steps which are: Practitioners should
understand that their behaviour affects children. Parents and practitioners should display assertive
responses. When disciplining a child, it is important that they have a plan with rules and
consequences. Within this disciplining plan practitioners should explain this to them. Adults
should tell children to behaviour properly. Practitioners should recognise when the child is being
good and you should approve of this behaviour. Lee Canter believed this as children knew if they
were getting praised for good behaviour, they were more likely to continue this behaviour.
However, if the child didn t follow the rules then they will be consequences. For example, losing

Canter s model is easy to follow and it is simple to understand for both children and adults. Lee
also believed that if the child is being praised then this could raise the child s self esteem and if
they are being praised and encouraged then they may respect the adult more. Canter s model can
be effective as it will lead the child to behave in a certain way, for example, if the child is getting
praised then they will continue however if they are showing negative behaviour then there will be
consequences. However, sometimes when managing behaviour can only be effective when used
consistently. This model will work well if parents apply the same model at home and it will work
well if children and young people don t seek to challenge the rules.

Importance Of The 1st Amendment
In total, America has 27 Amendments all together but which one is the most important you may
ask, well that s was this is about. I believe that the 1st Amendment is the most important out of
them all . The 1st Amendment is freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition.
Freedom of religion and speech are one of the best things a country can have and also something
everyone believes they should have. Everyone should be able to say or do anything they want
without fear. Also freedom of press is the right to publish newspapers, magazines, and other printed
matter without governmental restriction and subject only to the laws of libel, obscenity, sedition,
etc. ( www.dictionary.com) . Freedom of Assembly is The right to hold public meetings and form
associations without interference by the government. Freedom of peaceful assembly is guaranteed
by the First Amendment to the Constitution.
Last but not least is Freedom of Petition According to ( The Free Dictionary , 2017) a formal
written request to a court for an order of the court. It is distinguished from a complaint in a
lawsuit which asks for damages and/or performance by the opposing party. Petitions include
demands for writs, orders to show cause, modifications of prior orders, continuances, dismissal of
a case, reduction of bail in criminal cases, a decree of distribution of an estate, appointment of a
guardian, and a host of other matters arising in legal actions.

The reserve caused instability among the Indians as the Canadian government has the right to
expropriate portions of reserve for public work or move entire reserve away from a municipality
if it was considered convenient and practical even if it was an immoral move.Unbalanced treatment
of Aboriginal peopleThe aboriginal people might be called the First Nation, but they are treated
like the second class citizens. The Indian Act passed in 1876, has imposed a lot of restrictions to
the Indians. For instance, the First Nations are forbidden to speak their language or practice their
traditional religion. They are prohibited to buy alcohol or to buy ammunition. Initially, they were
not allowed until 1960.Address of the Indian Act effects to the Aboriginal The Indian act is
discriminatory and needs to be amended so at to be in line with the United Nation Human Right
Charter. The Indian act needs more amendment as it was done in the year 1951 and 1985 to
remove some of the controversial laws. In 1951, the act was amended and banning of dances and
ceremonies, and a pursuit of claims was removed and in 1982 it was amended to remove
discrimination against women. In the residential schools, teachers need to integrate Aboriginal
perspectives in a respectful, authentic and effective manner and also be mindful of the different
shape the Aboriginal education takes depending on the geographical location from which it emerges

High Membrane Traffic Lab
we observed a cell membrane s ability to diffuse the KMnO4 solution while increasing the
temperature. Dialysis tubing is commonly used to mimic a cell membranes semi permeable bi
layer. This tubing is commonly used for patients being treated via dialysis by removing toxins from
the blood. The clear tubing consists of microscopic pores that allow certain molecules to pass
through. Certain molecules will pass through the makeshift membrane if small enough. If they are
too large, they will be confined inside the membrane. The first part of the lab focused on varied
concentrations of Potassium Permanganate solution. Three different concentrations of KMnO4

By removing one milliliter of the stock solution to the first test tube, and repeating the same
process for the other two tubes allowed us compare concentrations and know what the dilution
factor would be when placed into the dialysis tubing. All three tubes had the same amount of water
(4mL of H2O) added. Once the solution for each test tube was mixed well, we transferred 2 mL of
each concentration into the dialysis bag. We secured each piece (3 in total) of the dialysis tubing
to ensure that once the concentration was added that it would not leak out of either end. Three
stir plates were used, all set at the same speed, and the dialysis bags filled with different
concentrations were added. Before we began to measure the absorbance rate, we did take a
sample of the water immediately after placing the dialysis tubing into each beaker. We observed
each beaker over a period of 25 minutes. At each five minute interval, we removed one milliliter of
the solution and placed it into a cuvette. The cuvette sample was then placed in the
spectrophotometer to calculate the absorbance rate of each sample. After each sample was
measured, all data was recorded in the lab manual. Once all measurements had been recorded we
used the absorbance rate to help calculate the concentration. The light that is absorbed when using
the spectrophotometer is usually relative to the concentration of a specific

Women s Role In Big-Budget Films
Amanda Seyfried once said, A few years ago, on one of my big budget films, I found I was being
paid 10 percent of what my male co star was getting, and we were pretty even in status
When negotiating pay, if a woman stands up for what they want, they ll come across as bratty and
risk losing their part but when a man does it they re considered fierce. In 2015 Jennifer Lawrence
earned $52 million, making her the highest paid actress in the world. Robert Downey Jr., the
highest paid actor, made $80 million that same year.
After the Sony Hack, Jennifer Lawrence wrote an essay for Lenny Letter an online feminist
newsletter. A group known as the Guardians of Peace hacked Sony and leaked confidential
information. Specifically, the hack revealed the pay of the stars of American Hustle. Bradley
Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jeremy Renner each earned 9% of the film s profits while Jennifer
Lawrence and Amy Adams both earned 7%. The difference may not seem like much but why were

By doing this, it won t make a difference for an actor or actress to make a powerful deal. If an
actress wants to fight for equal pay then she should be able to without losing a role or being called

Charlize Theron fought and received equal pay for the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman.
Both her and Chris Hemsworth earned $10 million. Because of what happened with American
Hustle, to be symbolic, Jennifer Lawrence negotiated for $20 million in Passengers while Chris
Pratt earned $12 million. There are still many more negotiations to come. A world with more
powerful women in the media industry who are unafraid to negotiate well is the kind of world we
need to live in.
The Hollywood pay gap is just a fraction of the gender inequality issues we face today. If we can
change the way we think about actresses, the difference in pay won t be one of those issues. This

Essay on Incorporating 21st Century Technology into the...
Abstract Technology has become a hot item for school district to implement into the classroom. The
need for this technology comes from an every changing world and because of the way 21st century
students learn. Web 2.0 technology must be used and integrated into the classroom. However, many
problems occur when trying to integrate technology. Question on whether student achievement is
increased, failures of school districts, and new demands placed on teachers have caused a negative
spin on technology. In order to be successful, technology must be implemented correctly by the
community, administrators, and teachers together.

Technology is no longer considered to be a special event by students, but is expected to be
integrated into the classroom (Koeber 2005). Even with many districts trying to push 21st century
technology into the classroom mainly failures still exist. These failures range from lack of
achievement increases (Oxford 2006) to struggles with overall plans created by school districts
(Owen 2004). The use of technology must be integrated into the classroom. However, many
stakeholders that are on the outside looking in do not understand how complex this process can
be on teachers and the school districts (Windschitle 2002). It is the purpose of this paper to
explore need for technology into classrooms and to explain why this can be such a problem. To
represent the need for technology in the classroom 21st century learning styles and successful
integration techniques will be used. An argument will be made for why technology has been so
hard to correctly integrate. Finally, correct implementation techniques on a district, school, and
classroom level will be examined to show that technology can and should be used in today s
classroom.

Reading Material: Realms of the Earth
Astro physicists and scientists believe that there could be quite a few planets in the Universe
similar to our planet
Earth. There is also a probable chance that some form of life prevails and sustains in one of such
planet.
However, so far as we presently know, the Earthis the only planet which supports life which
makes it a very unique planet. It is therefore imperative (very important and necessary) for us to
understand the spheres of the Earth as the spheres play a crucial role to enable life forms to evolve,
prevail and sustain.
The three main components of the Earth are water, air and soil. They are not only in contact with

The external forces lead to wearing away and rebuilding of the Earth s surface.
The agents of erosion physically change the Earth s surface by eroding (wearing away) land
surfaces, transporting the eroded material and depositing the weathered soil, sand and debris at
other places. For example, rain, wind and rivers erode the mountains and highlands, the eroded
particles are carried and deposited further down to form plains.
Types of landforms
MOUNTAINS
A mountain is a natural elevation of the Earth s surface rising high above its surrounding.
Mountains have narrow summits and broad bases. Mountains are found both on land and on the
ocean floor. They are of different types. Some of them are very high and some relatively short.
Some have pointed peaks, while some have rounded tops. Some have steep slopes and some have
gentle slopes. The higher reaches of the mountains can be very cold. The higher the altitude, the
lower will be the temperature.
Fold Mountains
Fold Mountains are formed by the upward movement and folding of land masses due to lateral
compression caused by tectonic or internal forces. When two plates move towards each other, the
place of convergence of the two plates gets compressed. The crust along the edge gets crumpled or
folded. Massive layers of the Earth s crust get uplifted as a result of these converging forces,
resulting in the formation of Fold Mountains.

Art Nouveau By Edward Burne Jones From The Pre-...
Art nouveau is a elegant decorative art style characterized by ornate patterns of curvilinear lines.
This period of art somewhat rooted from the a mixture of the Arts and Crafts movement, William
Morris, Edward Burne Jones from the Pre Raphaelites and the Japanese style. It became popular
across Europe and the in United States. Art Nouveauas a style is a beautiful mixture of elaborate
Celtic looking patterns, classical elements, flat color and delicate women in nature. This style
breaks the traditional forms from the previous time periods but at the same time, carries it through.
These designers in this time, presented this work as organic forms with rich imagery. Such as
Alphonse Mucha; which he today, is considered the father of this time period, and master of this
style. This era correlates with the brotherhood of the Pre Raphaelites, and with inspirations from the
early Renaissance painters. A melting pot of these famous time periods produced the Art nouveau
movement.
The Art nouveau movement started in Europe around 1890 s and lasted until 1910. It took on many
different characteristics and tried to express the modern world through it s illustrations. There were
many influences and themes across the works and style of Art nouveau. The many designers of this
time looked at past famous works as a foundation and created more of a graphical format within
these Art Nouveau works. Art nouveau designers such as Alphonse Mucha found his greatest

General Approaches For Feature Selection
General Approaches for Feature Selection There are 3 types of approaches for feature selection
namely filter, wrapper, embedded method.
Filter method: Filter method does not involve a learning algorithm for measuring feature subset [6].
It is fast and efficient for computation .filter method can fail to select the feature that are not
beneficial by themselves but can be very beneficial when unite with others. Filter method evaluates
the feature by giving ranks to their evaluation value. In filter method it evaluates the correlation
between the features by using criteria such as, mutual information, maximum length, maximum
relevance min redundancy (mRMR), PCA.
Figure 1.2 Filter approach
Wrapper method: wrapper method involve learning algorithm and search for optimal feature subset
from original feature set which discover the relationship between relevance and optimal subset
selection. It performed better than the filter method. The specific training classifier is used to
evaluate the performance of selected features. Figure 1.3 Wrapper approach
Embedded method: Embedded method is a combination of wrapper method and embedded method.
This decreases the computational cost than wrapper approach and captures feature dependencies. It
searches locally for features that allow better discrimination and also the relationship between the
input feature and the targeted feature. It involves the learning algorithm which is used to select
optimal subset among

Krzysztof Sujata s Valiska Essay
Calgary musician Krzysztof Sujata s Valiska project makes music that toes the line between
ambient and drone often relying on peaceful soundscapes dotted with piano to set a framework,
then occasionally building to a towering crescendo with a web of static. It s all very naturally
motivated, though fittingly for its album art, Repetitions is sparsely organic, with plenty of room to
breathe chilly and cozy breaths. It s a record that challenges you to take much from very little over
40 minutes, there is rarely any rhythmic movement. It s true ambient music, and while it sometimes
falls into uninspired territory, Repetitions is still quite an interesting, minimalistic world to explore.
Clearing , the album s seven minute opener, sets the tone here to looped woodwinds and pianos, it
spins a thoughtful and experimental kind of patchwork of melodies. The song s second half works
through this same strange melody with reversed pianos, an unofficial musical motif for the record.
These pianos are often the album s greatest flaw; pretty, yes, but often quite dull, especially ... Show

Glide crescendos brilliantly out of a pensive piano line; the onslaught of clarinets, oboes, and
bassoons is nicely supplemented with a steely, shimmering synth effect at the end. Dawn , the
album s lead single, does something similar, if more elevated: here, a quavering field of piano and
flutes suddenly erupts into a hazy throbbing bass, then cools down with an organ sound on the
periphery, which reminds me to some extent of Hans Zimmer s score for Interstellar. It s an
excellent piece, maybe the best on the record; another standout is Held , whose heavenly and
mysterious flute line floats far above the raging far away storm of sound below it. It sounds like
music for a cold, alien planet; this is Repetitions at its

Analysis Of The Fall Of A City By Alden Nowlan
Alden Nowlan in the story The Fall of a City demonstrates through imagery, foreshadowing, and
dramatic irony that one should not openly judge another, as it can greatly impact the said
person. Firstly, imagery is used when Teddy s uncle makes a comment about Teddy, and Teddy
compares his uncle s face to an antagonist from his imaginary kingdom. For example, He s got
his head in the clouds again. His uncle laughed mirthlessly. Out of the corner of his eye Teddy
looked at his uncle s round, florid face and reflected on the resemblance to Zikla, Duke of Anders
(Nowlan 32). Clearly, this quote illustrates Teddy s reaction after hearing his uncle s comments
towards him as he did not acknowledge this in a positive way. Teddy s uncle rudely laughs at him

which symbolizes the end of the war. The sound of Donovan cannon, represented by the
strumming of rain on the roof has also seized. Foreshadowing here is used to indicate the
coming impact, directed towards Teddy, as he is the king of the imaginary kingdom. Finally,
the author uses dramatic irony when Teddy s uncle discovers his creation in the attic. That great
big lummox has been playing with paper dolls...And 11 year old boy! The man choked trying to
restrain his laughter (33). Hence, this quote proclaims how Teddy s uncle judges him in a variety
of ways. Teddy s uncle judges him for playing with paper dolls, mocks Teddy by calling him a

creation is bound to get discovered and criticized, but Teddy does not know

Impact Of Globalisation On The Economic Development Of...
Globalisation is the process that involves the international operations of financial and investment
markets as a result of improved communication mediums globally. It is the tendency of business
enterprises and individuals to step outside their national and domestic markets to other markets
around the globe to increase international trade and exchange of cultural values among different
nations. Growth of Telecommunication sector is considered as one of the biggest positive sides of
globalisation in Pakistan. However, increase in the rate of unemployment has also been witnessed
as a negative feature associated with the industrialisation and globalisation of Pakistan s economy.
This paper discusses the real aspects of globalisation in Pakistan by determining the economical,
social, cultural and environmental effects on its economy. The impact of globalisation on the
economic development of Pakistan will be discussed with an explanation of both, the positive as
well as the negative aspect of globalisation and its effect on the economy, business enterprises and
an individual.
Globalisation is the tendency of business enterprises to perform their trading practises by stepping
outside their nation s geographical and economic boundaries. It is the form of international trade
that opens up unlimited opportunities for corporations to serve consumers groups of their choice
beyond domestic market boundaries (Das, 2004, p. 2). The term globalisation became popular in

INTRODUCTION
This report examines the demographics of Ladera Ranch, California, analyzing population data to
prove that the community of Ladera Ranch is a good location to open a business. Based on this
data, the report will recommend the type of business that is best suited for the community. Ladera
Ranch is a census designated place located in south Orange County, California ( Ladera Ranch ,
2012); nearby cities include Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, and Rancho Santa Margarita.
Construction of Ladera Ranch began in 1999 with the goal of creating a community where
residents enjoy recreational parks, clubhouses, shopping, and outdoor trails for joggers, hikers and
bikers ( City Guide , 2014). The research compiled confirms that Ladera Ranch has an abundance of
facilities for outdoor recreation and leisure activities. However, based on its demographics, Ladera
Ranch residents would also benefit from having a local indoor Family Entertainment Center to
complement its existing infrastructure.
A team of five students from the BUAD 301 class at California State University, Fullerton
collaborated to gather data from a variety of resources for this report, analyze this data, and provide
recommendations for a future business venture. Sources such as the United States Census Bureau
were used to obtain demographic information for Ladera Ranch. All sources have been listed on the

September 11, 2001, marked a tragic event in U.S. history. An American Airlines Boeing 767

killing hundreds of people and trapping hundreds more in higher floors. As the evacuation of both
towers got underway, live news feed streamed in images and videos to the public of what initially

For example, Edmund McNally called his wife Liz twice after a plane hit the second world trade

Bombs and Explosions in the WTC). Edmunds phone call to his wife questions if planes were

Huck Finn Should Not Be Banned Essay
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is about a boy who sets out on an adventure that leads him
away from social restrictions and out into a world of unexplored places. Within the story it holds
many questionable events. Those events spark doubt in readers minds and they start to shy away
from the book and reject it immediately. I believe that, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should
not be banned in classrooms due to the book including important topics such as slavery, morality,
and history.
In a blog on Huffington Post, the writer Galanty Miller, wrote about the Philadelphia High School
banning Huckleberry Finn. Saying that it was a decision that made no sense, and adding an

One might even notice that this whole clothing epidemic is going on right in front of their own

a young girl at one point! I wonder where they could have gotten this idea from? Oh, that is right,
this idea has been going on since the ancient times! In conclusion, the way people dress is indeed
important. It has been important from the beginning of the ancient times until today. As much as
we would like to believe that Hans Christian Andersen s interpretation of dress is not what is

The chimpanzee became its own species when it separated...
The chimpanzee became its own species when it separated from bonobos about 2 to 3 million
years ago (Mitchell, and Gonder). According to the article Chimps And Bonobos , this most
likely happened because of allopatric speciation which is the separation of a species through
physical forces like mountains or rivers that isolate the two groups. The physical force that
separated the two species was most likely Zaire River which is also called the Congo River in
Sub Sahara Africa. About 2 million years ago there was a drought south of the river and drove the
gorillas that were living the area north. Without an apex predator in the area the common ancestor
of the two animals crossed the river and became isolated from their relative the bonobo.... Show

According to Chimpanzee, an example of a homologous structure it shares with its descendants is
its relatively large skull. As the animals became more evolved their skull shapes started to
change to accommodate for a larger brain. This size difference is shown in Figure 2 because you
can see the difference in the brain and skull size of the chimpanzees (bottom) and humans (top)
(Chimpanzee). This is because Cranium size is determined by brain size and recent evidence by
(Dumas, 2012) shows that this is likely determine by a protein domain called DUF1220.
DUF1220 is a domain, a sub section of a gene, which is about 65 amino acids long and expressed
mostly in neurons (DUF1220). Research (Dumas, 2012) shows that more copies present in the
genome the larger the brain size is in that animal. Humans have 270 copies and the trend goes
down from there with Chimps having 125, Gorillas 99 and marmosets 30 and mice just one
(Dumas). This research shows the reasons hominids increased in brain size is because there was a
mutation that increased the amount of DUF1220 in their lineage which led to gradually larger
brain sizes. Since the Chimps split off (Figure 1) before this mutation their brains did not increase in
size; hence the reason they are still similar to the common ancestor of both chimps and humans.

policies. Welfare liberals work well with liberation ideology because they believe in the necessity
for strong government intervention to aid individuals who do not have equal opportunity to reach
their full individual freedom. The liberation ideology utilizes the government to make political
moves to overcome the oppression and discrimination. For example, black liberation movements,
women liberation movements, and gay liberation movements all formally made changes in the
political system to eliminate the inequality and to bring about liberation. Black liberation
movements banned racial discrimination and segregation in the workplace and in public places
during the Civil Rights Movement with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1968, as well as the
Voting Rights Act of 1965. These legal movements allowed blacks to gain power to assimilate

All The Bright Places By Jennifer Niven
All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
1.Making Personal Connections.
All The Bright Places is a story about love and depression, where a boy, Finch, helps Violet find
the will to live, while he has trouble keeping his head above water. My family has gone through the
stress, anger and sadness of depression, too: my cousin, Mitch, committed suicide by hanging
himself. Although it has been two years, the pain has still not completely gone away.
Violet Markey has lost her older sister (and best friend) in a fatal car crash on an icy bridge. She
is overwhelmed by guilt, as she was the one who begged her sister to take her home, and told her
to take the shortcut, ultimately leading to Eleanor s death. When this happens, she loses friends
and is afraid to make any, afraid she will lose them too. After losing Mitch, I also lost my Nana
and Papa (grandmother and grandfather). My cousin, Dimity had bowel cancer and although
she is alive and well now, it is still scary to think how close we were to losing her. This made me
realize, unlike other people my age, how close death is in our everyday lives, and, unlike
cartoon character, we cannot peel ourselves from the rubble and complete our quest or journey.
Losing some of the major people in my life has, just like Violet, made me scared to let go of
people and even more scared of letting them into my heart. However, just like with Violet, her
friends help her world to grow.
Violet is also a writer, and although her words

Ethics of Human Cloning and Genetic Engineering Essay
INTRODUCTION
When the Roslin Institute s first sheep cloning work was announced in March 1996 the papers
were full of speculation about its long term implications. Because of this discovery, the media s
attention has focused mainly on discussion of the possibility, of cloning humans. In doing so, it
has missed the much more immediate impact of this work on how we use animals. It s not certain
this would really lead to flocks of cloned lambs in the fields of rural America, or clinically
reproducible cuts of meat on the supermarket shelves. But it does force us to ask questions about
the way we are using animals with new technology, and the kinds of assumptions we make. To
create Dolly (the cloned sheep), Scottish researchers simply took ... Show more content on

The amount of animals and the amount of milk is very small compared with conventional meat
or bulk milk production. Imagine you are a commercial breeder of cows or hogs, and over many
generations you have bred some fine and valuable animals with highly desirable characteristics.
One possible application of Roslin s work could be to clone such animals from the cells of one of
them, and sell the cloned animals to finishers those farmers who simply feed up the animals for
slaughter, rather than breed them to produce more stock. Again, the breeder might want to clone a
series of fast growing, highly productive animals in a breeding program, in order to test how the
same genotype responded to different environmental changes.
ANALYSIS
Would cloning narrow genetic diversity too far? Before we look at the ethics, there are some
practical problems to consider. One of the fundamental rules of selective breeding is that you
must maintain a high enough level of genetic variation. The more you narrow down the genetic
pool to a limited number, the more you run two risks. One is that you could also have
accidentally selected for some other not so desirable characteristic along with the one you wanted.
(Klug, 1996) The selected lines could have certain disadvantages in some other genetic trait. These
would be evened out in normal genetic diversity of selective breeding, but if animals were cloned,
there would be no selection. The second risk is that

Evaluation and Assessment. The best practice of evaluation and assessment include the evaluation
in each courses and the overall assessment of the whole program. Evaluation and assessment
section is an inevitable portion of quality control. DE with much integration of technology,
especially needs evaluation and assessment. In the OU of the UK, the Governance Effective
Reviews take place every year. In the website, it states:
An annual effectiveness review appraises business and decision making against the terms of

effectiveness and performance benchmarked against guidance set out in external Codes of

In the OUC, the professional quality assessment does not exist both internal and external. The
existing quality assessment mechanism is superficial and not functional. Due to the concept of
saving face, few colleagues or leaders want to criticize other teachers. In the schools, the faculty

The Godfather Book Vs Movie
Leave the gun, take the cannoli is one of the most iconic lines from the Francis Ford Coppola
film The Godfather. Most people probably have no idea that this line wasn t part of the novel the
film was based on. In fact, the average person is most likely unaware of the novel s existence.
Nevertheless, in 1969 Mario Puzo released what would become an international bestseller and the
inspiration for the seminal film. It s worth mentioning that both the film and book have much to
offer with their compelling characters, magnificent ambience and prolonged legacy. It isn t often
that the transition from book to film results in a product equal to the written word. To say that the

character Luca Brasi gives the reader a proper example of a trusted solider in the family s crime
syndicate. He was the epitome of loyalty, ruthlessness and brute force. Whatever his leader, Vito
Corleone wanted him to do, he did it, without question. Even the murder of his own illegitimate

How Do Advertisers Target Our Youth
Advertisers are using many different techniques to try to target our youth. Some of the ways
take place through schools, stores, and even in your own home. Now, i m going to explain
where and how advertisers target our youth. To start off with, one big way marketers target our
youth are at the store. Why? Simple because that s where they are selling there products and and
where they target kids the most. Marketers try to make eye contact levels on their products so it
attracts viewers eyes more easily. Their goal is to try to make interesting characters or thing that
pop so that it seems cool or good to them so kids will want it. It is stated in the film Marketingto
kids that Kids have to nag their parents approximately 9 times in order for them to respond or get
them whatever it is they want. They use that strategy because their parents will eventually get tired
of hearing them and let them get the product. Advertisers probably use this method a lot to get
marketers. Another way kids are targeted is at home. You can see ads on basically any electronic
device or any commercial on T.V. In fact most of the commercials we

Bone Marrow Transplant Research Paper
The Different Kinds of Bone Marrow Transplants There are three different types of BMTs,
autologous, allogeneic, and syngeneic. In autologous BMTs the patient who is receiving the bone
marrow was also the donor. Before patient received their treatment, in the form of chemotherapy,
radiation, or both, stem cells were taken from the patient via bone marrowharvest or apheresis (The
Johns Hopkins University, para. 10). Apheresis is a process of collecting peripheral blood stem
cells, stem cells found in the bloodstream (National Marrow Donor Program, para. 1). Once the
cells are removed, they are frozen, and then given back to the patient after their treatment. The term

8), neuroblastoma (Knight, Jackson Grusby, and White Ryan, 163), and some solid tumor cancer,
however those are very rare (The Johns Hopkins University, para. 8). Additional cancers are being
evaluated in clinical trials for eligibility (Knight, Jackson Grusby, and White Ryan, 163).
Matching Donors and Patients Finding a potential donor involves matching the human leukocyte
antigen (HLA) tissue. These antigens are on the surface of special white blood cells. The HLA
tissue determines the genetic makeup of a person s immune system (The Johns Hopkins University,
para. 11). Doctors try to minimize the possible side effects of BMTs by using donor stem cells
that match the patients as closely as possible. The overall success of a BMT depends on how
closely the match between donor and patient was. Less than one third of patients will have a
matched sibling; siblings are often the closest matches. In about one half of the cases it is
possible to find an unrelated, matched donor. The chances of a donor matching a patient increase
drastically if the two are of the same racial and ethnic background. Blood work is used to
determine the level of a match between donor and patient. Donor registries are often used to find
donors when there is no related match.

How To Write A Persuasive Paper
The importance of writing, I found, was in what you wrote about and its purpose, writing helps
you get your ideas on paper and improve simply things like sentences, punctuation, spelling, and
grammar. There are many types of writing for different purposes, for this semester we focused on
persuasive and research papers, but there is also poetry, fiction, creative, narratives, and even
more.. I feel I have grown as a writerin the organization, wording and lead ins of papers. I also
feel I have improved in my vocabulary and using different words to give the same meaning.
The greatest writing accomplishments, I noticed in my persuasive and research papers were in
connecting to the topic and lead ins. In the research paper I improved in leading into the topic. My
research paper was about cloning and in it I stated, Ian WIlmut, a embryologist, and Keith

I liked how I used word phrasing in the persuasive paper. In the persuasive paper you had to
discredit the opposing side, I did this by stating, Some parents and students argue that these
books should be banned, but they are mistaken and misrepresenting the view of the book . For
this I used different words and sometimes different orders to describe similar things and make it
sound more educated and believable. In addition, something I found good in my paper was my
discussions of the topics. In the persuasive paper about banning books I made a topic about why
they shouldn t be banned, saying, ...taking these books off the shelves and out of schools they are
taking away students First Amendment rights to choose what books they want to read . I used
good discussions to make my point about the topic and persuade people to see the way I wanted
them to. Conclusively, the persuasive paper was my favorite out of all the papers completed this

Essay about Violence, Corruption, and Wealth in American...
Today s society is no stranger to violence and corruption. We see it in our streets, on our
television and movie screens, and we hear it in music. However, a clearer connection is being
made between this corruption and wealth. Our culture is beginning to associate dishonesty and
criminal acts with money and material goods. Images of wealth and fame through murder and
mayhem are pounded into Americans heads through a the story lines of Mafia movies and the
lyrics of popular music idols. Producers are thriving on our two biggest cravings: money and
violence. In the novel The Great Gatsby, corruption is a main theme and is used as a gateway to
wealth and fame. As the plot unfolds, the main characters get caught in a tangled web of adulterous

Many rappers including the late quot;Notorious B.I.G quot; and quot;2Pac quot;, two very well
known rappers, made innumerable references to the use and sale of drugs, along with the profit to
be made, in their lyrics. In the song quot;Sky s the Limit quot;, the Notorious B.I.G raps about his
school days, being a young drug dealer, rapping quot;Buy a dime [of marijuana], smoke five, sell
the rest for 20/ a young nigga making far too much money/ I was the only 8th grader with a

quot;Redman quot; who is an open and proud marijuana smoker and promoter. In an interview in
quot;Source quot; Magazine, he stated quot;I spend about 18 20,000 dollars last year on
[marijuana] quot;. He makes many references to the drug in just about every song he is featured
in. While all this is going on, you can see these rappers sporting the newest clothes, the shiniest
diamonds and the fastest cars. Rappers, unlike other high paid professionals, have a reputation
for flaunting and bragging about their money. Music videos are the perfect stage to do this and
rappers take full advantage of the opportunity with $7,000,000 + videos containing cars, special
effects and in one video, a $200,000 platinum gold tank, believe it or not. The clear message here
is that power, wealth and stardom are accompanied by violence and corruption. These few

Essay on Memento
Memento
Memento is a movie directed by Chris Nolan. It was released in 2000. The leading actor is Guy
Pearce. Carrie Anne Moss and Joe Pantoliano are also in this movie. Memento is a perplexed thriller.
Leonard, the main character, is excellently played by Guy Pierce. He is constantly confused, yet
still acts in a nonchalant way. Teddy (Pantoliano) and Natalie (CarrieAnne Moss) play puzzling
characters, throughout the whole movie the viewer questions, whether they may or may not be
Leonard s friends.
The characters are not conform the general image of Americans, but that has a lot to do with the
fact the audience does not know whether they should trust Leonard s story or Leonard s friends.
Teddy does not look like an ordinary cop, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lives his life by taking notes and Polaroid pictures, the facts he records in tattoo form all over
his body. Every time he loses his concentration it s as if he has just woken up, he is constantly
assessing his situation. It is a nearly impossible way to live life. The only thing that keeps him
going is the idea of revenge against his wife s murderer.
The way this movie messes with time in the past is not new. Pulp Fiction did it, and many other
movies did, but never like the way Memento has chosen to work it. The movie is broken up into
individual segments, and each one ends where the one before it began. This is confusing, but it
does not take long to understand how the story is going to be told. Nolan wants the audience to
feel what it is like when you cannot make any new memories and cannot trust anyone. That is
what Nolan accomplish, the audience feels like they are in Leonard s shoes. This method Nolan
uses creates an amount of tension and suspense. The audience knows what happened, but now they
want to know why it happened. We learn the bits Leonard forgets. Nolan created a unique movie,
blending color and black and white images and with this technique of filmmaking. It is truly
original; the audience will feel just as confused and lost as Leonard when each scene begins.
In a way this movie is social commentary, in a world that wants people to believe they can trust
everyone the movie shows what it is like when you

A Modern Day Minstrel Show
It is clear that our country s criminal justice system is the new Jim Crow; with a huge majority of
felons being African American, it is obvious that people of color have it harder when it comes to
crime sentences. We must acknowledge that mass incarceration and the Jim Crow era are greatly
similar. Minstrel shows, which showed black men to be lazy, dumb, and clownish, once justified
the oppression of african americans. Many now believe that gangsta rapdoes just the same and is the
modern day minstrel show, by portraying blacks to be drug dealers, angry, and violent men.
Though many people believe that gangsta rap reinforces these stereotypes, it s important for one to
realize that this form of expression is not a modern day version of blackfaceperformances.
Blackface performances were popular in American theaters for roughly 100 years, beginning
around the 1830 s. In 1950 s blackface minstrel shows, white and black performers were not able
to share the stage therefore they opted to paint their faces black with polish. These black
characters were always portrayed as either villains or comedic. Blackface had been used to make
arguments for slavery and why African Americans should not be given full human rights. These
are narratives created by white men that were made to oppress and dehumanize an entire race of
people. The minstrel show clip titled Cotton and Chick Watts Blackface Minstrel Show Comedy

  • 2. Walter Elias Disney Essay Walter Elias Disney Disney has become a household name in American society, but most people are not aware of Walt Disney s struggles before becoming one of the twentieth century s most prominent and successful animators and film directors. Walt Disney is best know for his characters Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy, and Minnie Mouse, but his company can also be credited with achievements such as the first fully synchronized sound picture, Steamboat Willie , the first full color animation, Flowers and Trees , and the first full length animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs . Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois to Elias Disney and Flora Call. Walt was the youngest of four boys... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this was short lived because he decided to join the Red Cross near the end of World War Two. He was sent to France to be an ambulance driver. For an extra fifteen francs a week, Walt painted signs for the camp that showed military and Red Cross personnel where things were located, such as an arrow over a large mug pointing towards the canteen. When he returned home, his father offered him a job at the jelly factory, but Walt had plans of moving to Kansas City and becoming a cartoonist. His father did not think much of this, which emulated Walt s distant relationship with his father. He moved in with Roy in Kansas City, who was renting a room from their older brother Herbert. Roy found Walt a job with Pesmen Rubin Agency, and advertising agency in Kansas City, but after the busy season, Walt was let go, as was his friend Eb Iwerks, and eventually the two started the company Iwerks and Disney...Commercial Artists. Iwerks and Disney eventually fell through, but Walt was determined to succeed, and he read as many books and magazine articles about cartooning and cinematic animation as he could get his hands on. After a while, Walt began working for the Kansas City Film Ad Company. On the side he began his own company called Laugh O Gram Films, Inc. During this time Walt and Iwerks did a series of seven minute fairy tales entitled Alice in Cartoonland, which contained a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Technology vs Organic Essay example Humanity s timeline illustrates the past, present and future of human beings; commencing nearly 200,000 years ago when Homo sapiens first diverged from its ancestors (Evans,1998). For the next 188,000 years humans were content to forge and live within the constructs of a hunter gatherer societal organization. Approximately 12,000 years ago agricultural systems began appearing in various places around the world. An astonishingly short period of time later the Agricultural Revolution transformed human ecology, social organization, demography, culture, and religion (Fagan: 2007). Man wholeheartedly embraced the sweeping changes bought on by agricultureand domestication, which definitely proved key to the long run success of agriculture and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pronounced change from hunting and gathering to agriculture and domestication can be simplistically designated the Agricultural or Neolithic Revolution (Pringle:1998). The catalytic developments of the Neolithic Revolution mark a major turning point in the history of humankind. The resulting animal and plant domestication established the foundation on which modern civilization was built. Agriculture is a uniquely human activity and is perhaps the п¬Ѓrst activity for which humans developed technology. Technology, understood as the use of farming tools and techniques, is an indispensable component in agriculture. In the most general sense, technology permits humans to increase the capture and efп¬Ѓcient utilization of solar radiation that drives primary plant production that is the basis of the human food and п¬Ѓber chain (Porter, Rasmusen: 2009). The steadfast characterization of human nature can be viewed as a historical constant, while the prevailing woes and dilemmas facing humanity can be viewed as a contemporary variable. Similarly to an algebraic equation, clever manipulation of the variable and constant portion can lead to discovering the value of the variable or as in the case of humanity; it can provide valuable insight on complex problems based on the past experiences of people who are innately ... The leader could heal, create and throw fire, and control water. But the best power was the power to hypnotize. The leader was a female, and her name was Vanessa Wolf. Her pack was called The Saviors. The pack was made of 5 million wolves. Everyone knew them as the pack that protected the animalsof the world. Vanessa would use her hearing as her source to sense the animals in danger in the world. When the pack of 5 million wolves was running to get to the animal or animals in trouble, you could hear them running from miles away. The pounding on the ground was so intense it created earthquakes. One day when Vanessa Wolf was out by herself she heard an animal cry for help. My prior knowledge of health care is that it was a system of home care remedies with doctors with little training to our now complex technology and bureaucratic system. With the birth of medical insurance, technological advancement, and the professional utilization of doctors, it would be very ignorant not to say that health care has evolved from what it was to what it is now. The Self Through Self Examination Betterment of the self through self examination seems like a fundamental idea; however, what occurs more often than not in today s social media driven climate is not examining oneself, but instead, comparing oneself to others. Which do you think is more beneficial? It s much easier to make assumptions about the other and compare yourself to your own idea of the other, rather than look inward and try to see past the assumptions of yourself and find your inner truth. It s not easy to resist the idea of rating yourself in comparison to others since it is in human nature to want to place yourself within a system of cultural values in order to determine your position in a cultural matrix. This kind of comparison is mentally taxing, socially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To shift the examination inward towards the self is the only way we could hope to understand our placement in our nation s grand cultural matrix. One of the most difficult things that we can do in a culture that is so surrounded by judgment is to not accept these judgments placed on ourselves, as well as others, as finite. Values placed on yourself by others reduces you to a statement, to words, to a sporadic thought that was devised in the mind of the other. When we accept other s judgments as fact, we have devalued our own judgments which brings up the interesting concept of being able to justly judge yourself. To define one s eyes is almost impossible since we see differently day to day. It is difficult to do yourself justice with a heavy and sure gavle that judges harshly. When we leave the self inappropriable and admit that we can t know ourselves, let alone the other, entirely, we may not feel satisfied; however, it s imperative to admit our lack of understanding of ourselves, so we can continue to define ourselves. When we accept the judgment of others as fact we are in turn being lethargic by not interrogating our ever changing selves. It is true the inability to define oneself fully is a miracle; it is true that knowing yourself fully would leave no room for further discovery, but is it a gift never to know oneself fully? That is one question that we will never know the answer to. To properly interrogate yourself is to learn how to appreciate yourself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

History of Cloning Essay History of Cloning Although the word itself has only been around for only four decades, the idea of creating an organism identical to another has been around for centuries. Even nature has utilized this process. The actual process of artificially cloning has been around since before 1900s, even though it is heard of more often in the modern world. Cloning began in 1894 with the first clone of an organism. Hans Dreisch was able to clone a sea urchin, and his research led to Hans Spemann s multiple attempts and successes of cloning throughout his science years. As technology advanced, Robert Briggs and Thomas King used Spemann s results to create the process of nuclear transfer used in modern cloning techniques. After many debates over ... This experiment and others disproved Wilhelm Roux and August Weismann s theory that stated: The egg and sperm contribute chromosomes equally to the zygote. The chromosomes are carriers of the hereditary potentials, and the germ cells (gametes) of the embryo are the only ones to carry the complete set of hereditary potentials (nuclear determinants), whereas each somatic (body) cell type contains only part of these potentials required for the specific cell type (Berardino 2). By separating the cells of a single developing embryo to create two organisms, Dreisch proved that the somatic cell contains all hereditary information. The next successful cloning experiment was conducted in 1902 by German Dr. Hans Spemann on salamander embryos, producing twins. Spemann split the embryo using a strand of hair from his newborn son, and the two resulting cells grew into normal adult salamanders. These salamanders were artificially created identical twins. He repeated his experiments many times, and created mutant creatures. He concluded that in order to create a normal organism, the cloning process must be completed before what he called determination, or the stage in growth where cells specialize into different cells for different parts of the body. This stage is completed in the early growth of an embryo (Cheng n.p.). However, cloning in mammals remained impossible, due to the fact that mammal eggs are invisible to the naked eye, while amphibian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a fasting individual, it is generally agreed that 10% to 20% of a dose of alcohol is absorbed from the stomach (the volume of alcohol affects the absorption) and 75% to 80% is absorbed from the small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alcohol Content It s not how many drinks that you have, but how much alcohol that you consume. The concentration of the drinks that one ingest can have a slight effect on the peak alcohol concentration due to the differences in absorption rate of different concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol is most rapidly absorbed when the concentration of the drink is between 10% and 30%. Below 10% the concentration gradient in the gastrointestinal tract is low and slows absorption and the added volumes of liquid involved slow gastric emptying. On the other hand concentrations higher than 30% tend to irritate the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and the pyloric sphincter, causing increased secretion of mucous and delayed gastric emptying. Food Food taken along with alcohol results in a lower, delayed blood alcohol concentration peak (the point of greatest intoxication). There are two major factors involved in this phenomenon. First, because alcohol is absorbed most efficiently in the small intestine, the ingestion of food can slow down the absorption of alcohol into one s system. The pyloric valve at the bottom of the stomach will close in order to hold food in the stomach for digestion and thus keep the alcohol from reaching the small intestine. ... • 13. Character Analysis Of The Godfather The Godfather was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and was released in 1972. It starred Al Pacino and Marlon Brando as the two main characters. This movie is one of the best films to grace the big screen to this date. It has a very well executed plot as well. I like this movie a lot, portrays generally unlikeable characters in a sympathetic light and by the end of the movie you are truly rooting for them. I like that Coppola takes a very unlikeable subject and generally bad people and turns them into people that you are rooting for and want them to generally succeed. The way Coppola does this is through the way he develops the characters. The development of these mobsters throughout this movie is fantastic. Michael Corleone(Al Pacino) is the epitome of this concept. At the beginning he is a returning Veteran who wants nothing to do with the family crime business. By the end he has transformed to a ruthless yet caring mob boss. He has a personal conflict that most people can relate to. He is conflicted between pleasing his parents and pleasing himself. In the end he takes a hybrid route choosing to be a caring yet ruthless mob boss; separating business and personal matters. Michael may be the best example, but the whole Corleone family is very relatable. George Ebert would agree: The movie (based on a script labored over for some time by Puzo and then finally given form, I suspect, by director Francis Ford Coppola) gets the same feel. We tend to identify with Don Corleone s family not because we dig gang wars, but because we have been with them from the beginning, watching them wait for battle while sitting at the kitchen table and eating chow mein out of paper cartons. (Ebert) The plot starts with Don Vito Corleone(Marlon Brando) taking care of Mob business during his daughter s wedding. During the wedding, Michael returns home from fighting in World War 2. After the wedding Don Vito is offered to be let in on the Narcotics Trade. Don Vito seeing this as inhumane refuses the offer. This refusal causes an assassination attempt on Don Vito. While he is being nursed back to health, his 3 sons (Sonny, Fredo, and Michael) try to take revenge on the assassin. Unfortunately for them, they hit the wrong people ... All together there are five steps which are: Practitioners should understand that their behaviour affects children. Parents and practitioners should display assertive responses. When disciplining a child, it is important that they have a plan with rules and consequences. Within this disciplining plan practitioners should explain this to them. Adults should tell children to behaviour properly. Practitioners should recognise when the child is being good and you should approve of this behaviour. We secured each piece (3 in total) of the dialysis tubing to ensure that once the concentration was added that it would not leak out of either end. Three stir plates were used, all set at the same speed, and the dialysis bags filled with different concentrations were added. Before we began to measure the absorbance rate, we did take a sample of the water immediately after placing the dialysis tubing into each beaker. We observed each beaker over a period of 25 minutes. At each five minute interval, we removed one milliliter of the solution and placed it into a cuvette. The cuvette sample was then placed in the spectrophotometer to calculate the absorbance rate of each sample. After each sample was measured, all data was recorded in the lab manual. An American Airlines Boeing 767 carrying thousands of gallons of jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. I believe that, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should not be banned in classrooms due to the book including important topics such as slavery, morality, and history. According to the article Chimps And Bonobos , this most likely happened because of allopatric speciation which is the separation of a species through physical forces like mountains or rivers that isolate the two groups. The physical force that separated the two species was most likely Zaire River which is also called the Congo River in Sub Sahara Africa. About 2 million years ago there was a drought south of the river and drove the gorillas that were living the area north. As the animals became more evolved their skull shapes started to change to accommodate for a larger brain. This size difference is shown in Figure 2 because you can see the difference in the brain and skull size of the chimpanzees (bottom) and humans (top) (Chimpanzee). This is because Cranium size is determined by brain size and recent evidence by (Dumas, 2012) shows that this is likely determine by a protein domain called DUF1220. DUF1220 is a domain, a sub section of a gene, which is about 65 amino acids long and expressed mostly in neurons (DUF1220). Research (Dumas, 2012) shows that more copies present in the genome the larger the brain size is in that animal. Humans have 270 copies and the trend goes down from there with Chimps having 125, Gorillas 99 and marmosets 30 and mice just one (Dumas). This research shows the reasons hominids increased in brain size is because there was a mutation that increased the amount of DUF1220 in their lineage which led to gradually larger brain sizes. Since the Chimps split off (Figure 1) before this mutation their brains did not increase in size; hence the reason they are still similar to the common ancestor of both chimps and humans. All The Bright Places is a story about love and depression, where a boy, Finch, helps Violet find the will to live, while he has trouble keeping his head above water. My family has gone through the stress, anger and sadness of depression, too: my cousin, Mitch, committed suicide by hanging himself. Although it has been two years, the pain has still not completely gone away. Violet Markey has lost her older sister (and best friend) in a fatal car crash on an icy bridge. She is overwhelmed by guilt, as she was the one who begged her sister to take her home, and told her to take the shortcut, ultimately leading to Eleanor s death. When this happens, she loses friends and is afraid to make any, afraid she will lose them too. After losing Mitch, I also lost my Nana and Papa (grandmother and grandfather). My cousin, Dimity had bowel cancer and although she is alive and well now, it is still scary to think how close we were to losing her. This made me realize, unlike other people my age, how close death is in our everyday lives, and, unlike cartoon character, we cannot peel ourselves from the rubble and complete our quest or journey. Ethics of Human Cloning and Genetic Engineering Essay INTRODUCTION When the Roslin Institute s first sheep cloning work was announced in March 1996 the papers were full of speculation about its long term implications. Because of this discovery, the media s attention has focused mainly on discussion of the possibility, of cloning humans. In doing so, it has missed the much more immediate impact of this work on how we use animals. It s not certain this would really lead to flocks of cloned lambs in the fields of rural America, or clinically reproducible cuts of meat on the supermarket shelves. The amount of animals and the amount of milk is very small compared with conventional meat or bulk milk production. Imagine you are a commercial breeder of cows or hogs, and over many generations you have bred some fine and valuable animals with highly desirable characteristics. One possible application of Roslin s work could be to clone such animals from the cells of one of them, and sell the cloned animals to finishers those farmers who simply feed up the animals for slaughter, rather than breed them to produce more stock. Again, the breeder might want to clone a series of fast growing, highly productive animals in a breeding program, in order to test how the same genotype responded to different environmental changes. ANALYSIS Would cloning narrow genetic diversity too far? Before we look at the ethics, there are some practical problems to consider. One of the fundamental rules of selective breeding is that you must maintain a high enough level of genetic variation. The more you narrow down the genetic pool to a limited number, the more you run two risks. One is that you could also have accidentally selected for some other not so desirable characteristic along with the one you wanted. (Klug, 1996) The selected lines could have certain disadvantages in some other genetic trait. These would be evened out in normal genetic diversity of selective breeding, but if animals were cloned, there would be no selection. The second risk is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
