The Brain And Its Effect On Brain Development
Teenagers are susceptible to engaging in risky behaviors such as, unprotected sex, drug abuse, and
unhealthy lifestyles because of the natural sequence of our brain development. Myelination and
maturation of the neurons in the brain work from the back of the brain towards the front. This is
important because the prefrontal cortexis located at the front of the brainand is responsible for
problem solving, processing complex thoughts, a decision making. The limbic systemis at the base
of the brain and is responsible for emotions such as fear and anxiety. Therefore, the limbic system
matures and is myelinated before the prefrontal cortex. The connections in the emotional center of
the brain are stronger and more efficient than the part of the brain that allows higher levels of
problem solving and the ability to regulate those powerful emotions. Once adolescence is reached,
hormones also play an important role in development by directly affecting the amygdala, which in
turn, results in a more active part of the brain. This development of the brain isn t fully completed
until years after the teenage stage of life. Consequently, teenagers are emotional because they are
extra sensitive to neurotransmitters like dopamine, the rewarding pleasure chemicals. Due to this,
decisions are often not well regulated by caution, refection, or planning. It isn t until after a decision
has been made that the negative effects are taken into consideration. So, engaging in risky
behaviors excites

Common American Pizza Essay
In 1905 the United States of America hit an incredible milestone. The first pizzeria was opened
in Manhattan, called Lombardi s. Since that glorious day American s have enjoyed the delicious
taste of pizza. Pizza is a world wide food that is savored in many countries across the globe. It
was first created in Naples, as an inexpensive food for un wealthy common folks. It started out as
flatbreads topped with assorted fixings like cheese, oil, tomatoes, and garlic. Pizza has evolved
over time into what we know it as today. Popular toppings on the common American pizza are
sausage, pepperoni, cheese, veggie, and bacon. It would be interesting to see which of the five
options would be the most popular and which option would be the least popular.... Show more

This method is carried out in different rounds, where one pizza topping will be dropped after
each round. The pizza topping that has the fewest first place votes gets eliminated. When there
are only two pizza toppings remaining the topping with the most first place votes is the winner
of plurality with elimination. I created a table to show the results of the different rounds. The
table is similar to the preference chart, but the rows are only showing the first place selections. It
is important to understand that whenever a pizza topping gets eliminated it is taken out of the
order. The pizza topping that was directly below the one that got eliminated will move up in the
order. For example, the first round bacon got the least amount of first place votes. Therefore,
bacon was eliminated and anything below bacon was moved up in ranking. So if the order was
bacon, sausage, pepperoni, cheese, then veggie the order would change to sausage, pepperoni,
cheese, then veggie to accommodate the fact that bacon was eliminated. Looking at the second
round on the chart, the orders changed significantly as well as the scores. In the second round,
veggie got eliminated leaving pepperoni, sausage, and cheese still in the running. In the third and
final round pepperoni was eliminated. The pizza topping that had the most first place votes after
eliminating pepperoni was

Federal Elections Committee versus Citizens United
The increasingly popular organization, Citizens United, is focused on circumscribing government
in order to decentralize power and place it in the hands of the people ( Who We Are ). Their firm
beliefs are rooted in the ideas that the founding fathers had for this country based on values such as
common sense, good will, and honesty ( Who We Are). Citizens United Productions, or (CUP) is an
award winning documentary production crew run by Citizens United with the intention of

Furthermore, they must disclose that the candidate of which the advertising is about does not
condone the message ( Citizens United versus Federal Election Commission. ). The Supreme Court
struck down the law, thus essentially allowing unlimited funding of candidates from corporations.
The unrestricted access that campaigns have when funding grants legal impairment of those who
are unable to donate money as a corporation would, thus making the votes of the people matter less.
In the post civil war era until World War One lived many elites who prided themselves on their
shoddy and commercialized wealth, which can also be said about the current political climate
existent in America today. In the era termed The Gilded Age, by one Mark Twain, there also
thrived a great deal of political corruption due to huge amounts of money that existed in the
economy, similarly to our current political climate. Due to an influx of immigrants that localized
to urban areas such as Chicago there were high concentrations of people in relatively small areas
creating problems for the welfare of people ( Gilded Age Scandal and Corruption ). As it is the
government s responsibility to aid those in need, it was still not enough for many. In causality,
organizations were created to fill the gap between government could provide and what the people
needed. These organizations did things like giving material assistance to new arrivals, got people
jobs, provided necessities for families in distress,

A country isn t born from one day to another, and they all have a history. It s certain that they have
come a long way, but because of the sacrifices they ve had to make along the road. Mexico, being
one of the most beautiful countries, has a reputation for its beaches, food, and tourist attractions,
but all that glitters is not gold. Mexicoattracts tourist from all over the world and its culturehas
spread to all parts of the world, but it s not so pretty side, crime, has also had an impact on the
world. Its crime levels have risen and drug trafficking has also been a huge problem, especially in
the United States. With that being said, Mexico has a beautiful culture and some of the friendliest
most humble individuals. It s probably one of the facets that has remained constant over the years.
Mexico s history has not only affected them, but also the world around them.
Mexico consists of 31 states, with its capital being Mexico City. Its story and past cultures can be
seen throughout the country and its artifacts. Many of the rural areas are still inhabited by
indigenous people. Lots of these indigenous people would be able to tell you the difference
between their ancestors lives and their own life. These changes would include crime, government,
and other social issues. Mexico started off with civilizations. The first known civilization was The
Olmecs. They settled near Veracruz, but had two key population groups. One was San Lorenzo

MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS OF BANKS
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Mergers and acquisitions are one of the popular topics in business today, since they characterize the
new economy: pressure of global competition, development of technology and disappearance of
country boundaries. The purpose of this project is to study how mergers and acquisitions affect the
share prices of the acquirer bank. We have taken up seven banks as a part of our case study
analysis and have made an attempt to study the share price pattern of Transferee Banks before and
after merger on a monthly basis by drawing out graphs and using correlation and regression.

Game Changer for Sports Television Matthew Moore SPMT 482 596: Sport History 11/25/14
Dr. Paul E. Keiper Texas A M University Growing up in a household full of males, minus my
Mother, Monday nights were always such a big deal to our family for one reason, Monday
Night Football! It did not matter if the team we disliked the most was playing, our whole family
was glued to the television after seven o clock. It was not until I was enrolled into this class, that
I figured out how one man changed the game of sports television single handedly. This man went
by the name of Roone Arledge. I chose to write about this topic because I know how much of an
impact sports television had on my family. It always brought us closer together no matter how
stressful our weeks were. We always enjoyed spending that time together and Roone Arledge
was the visionary behind all of it. Roone Pinckney Arledge was a guy born in New York, and
spent his childhood days in Long Island. He was not much of an athlete himself but had an
immense passion for following sports. Alrledge was a graduate of Columbia University in 1952

The Downpour Poem
The downpour recounts an idiosyncratic phenomenon from his childhood that lingered a cherished
occurrence on the writer s mind; watching as the rain drenched earth and everything on it, then
becoming shadowed by the vehement thunder to follow, impacted the writer tremendously as the
result/damage of the aforementioned coerced an aesthetic appreciation towards this phenomenon.
This heavy downpour embarked the unforgettable memories of playing outside in the heavy rain as
he reminisced on the vast imagery of nature s elements along with the striking sounds that followed.
In this extract, the writer s application of stylistic devices and emotive languages such as: his

After giving a detail description on The Downpour through the usage of amplification,

eventually applies flashback to the passage. We see this where he states, Finally I would run
outside, naked, and let the rain soak me through...I was not satisfied with rolling in the grass, I
wanted to fly, to fly like those birds alone in the downpour. The writer portrays the downpour as
an extraordinary event in the life of the child by giving the audience a personal reference to his
experience in the downpour. This enables the readers to appreciate this momentous event by
engaging the reader more into the passage. The writer s awestruck tone also contributes
significantly to this passage as it sets the attitude of the passage and aids setting the atmosphere.
This compels the audience to imagine and almost feel like they are experiencing this event, thus,
Arena successfully portrays the downpour as an extraordinary event in the life of the

The Usefulness of Information Systems in a Small Record Store
Introduction There are several information system programs that can be of a lot of help when
running a small, brick mortar, nostalgic record store. This is because information systems are
known to collect, store, analyze, disseminates, as well as process information for a specific
purpose. On the other hand a computer based information system is known as an information
system that uses computer technology in order to perform some if not all of the intended tasks
such as filter and conclusion it is important to find the best system that will work best for each
business because this systems will help the owner in being able to run the business in a more
efficient way, although picking the incorrect system can lead the owner to spending more money
on systems that are simply unnecessary.
Processes that May Require Information System Software
The several types of processes that would work best by being handled through information system
software would consist of:
Client order
Sales
Client information
Budget
Inventory
Suppliers
Five Potential Information Systems The five information systems that would be of a lot of help for
the everyday operations of the store would consist of management information systems, transaction
processing system, decision support system, supply chain management system as well as the
electronic commerce system. Each and every single one of these system would be able to be
examined for how good they would perform as

Socrates Statement Of An Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
In this post it is my goal to analyze Plato s The Apology showing that Socrates statement of an
unexamined life is not worth living stands as Socrates statement of his own worth, wisdom, and
place in Athenian society. Socrates is brought to trial to address two charges: the first is the fruit of
a legacy of embarrassment he has inflicted on the intelligentsia of Athens and the second is the
accusation of atheism and corrupting the youth brought to the court by Meletus, Anytus and Lycon.
It can be assumed through reading of the footnotes, this trial comes on the heels of a political
ordeal in which Athens was briefly ruled by an Oligarchy known as The Thirty Tyrants in 404
BCE. This appears to set the stage for a round of trials and convictions of Athenians who
sympathized with the Spartan occupation, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regards to the first accusation Socrates states that his primary life s goal has been to investigate
those who claim to have wisdom via rhetorical dialogue and he has come to find the subjects of
his investigation lacking in actual wisdom. This, he posits, is why Apollo (or the Delphi Oracle as
he refers to the god) has named him the wisest man in Athens. Socrates conjectures that it is
because of his questioning of the wise and the powerful that he has come to make enemies of many
Athenians who themselves possess power and clout. The result, he claims, is the trial that The
Apology concerns. The second and more prescient charge is that of corrupting the youth, making
weaker arguments the stronger, and of denying the existence of the gods. Socrates considers this
charge to be the current fruits of the former charge and spurious as well. He cross examines
Meletus and, through a line of questioning regarding the charges against him, shows that Meletus is
logically flawed in his condemnation of Socrates. He

Case 4.19 The Extracellular Matrix Of Animal Cells
4.19 The extracellular matrix of animal cells function in support and regulation
Most cells synthesize and secrete materials that remain outside the plasma membrane
Animal cells produce elaborate extracellular matrix (ECM)
This layer holds cells together in tissues and protects and supports the plasma membrane
Main components of ECM are, glycoproteins, proteins bonded with cars
The most abundant glycoprotein is collagen, which forms strong fibers outside the cell
ECM many attach to the cell through other glycoproteins that then bind to membrane proteins
called integrins
Integrins span the membrane attaching on the other side to proteins connected to microfilaments of

Walking into a lecture hall in Gregory Hall, I really didn t know what to expect. I dressed as I

Most of the discussion dealt with historical overview on slavery and how it pertained to today s
society. The audience was reminded early on in the discussion that racedoes exist in its
consequences and that we must not overlook those consequences. The speaker at this portion of
the discussion was a woman who seemed extremely fond of her topic. Her gestures and speech
inflections were much exaggerated to the point where it almost drew attention away from her topic.
It was just ironic to me how a Caucasian woman could speak with such emotion when she was
never herself enslaved!
What followed this woman s short speech was a short discussion led by a woman by the name
of Liz Plaque. She spent her time at the podium speaking of slavery in our past to the point where
I felt like I was in a history class. As I looked around the room, it seemed as though the audience
was being healed by this woman s revelation speech , when in reality it was nothing more than a
recitation from the history books. She also pointed out that slavery is a topic that is getting the
most attention right now in current events. I kept thinking to myself, Does this woman really

Overcoming Adversity In The Three Ways To Overcoming...
Before getting back up after you fall you have to gather all your strength and push whatever
made you fall harder.Every time you fall the same solution might not work so you have to be
stubborn and keep an attitude that tells your challenger Try your best shot, and that if you fall
you won t be gone for long.People overcome obstacles in less than three ways the three ways are
by keeping a positive attitude, being determined, and lastly being a creative problem solver.
First,in ways, people overcome obstacles is keeping a positive attitude since when you have a
positive attitude you are harder to discourage. An example of positive attitude while facing
adversity would be in the text A work in progresswhere Aimee Mullin faces her adversity with
humor like when she broke her wooden leg and while all the other people in that room were
freaking out all she could think about was that her parents were going to kill her.I chose this
example because out of all the stories we read in class about facing adversity Aimee Mullin
struck me as the most positive about her obstacle. It s important because it shows my point that
with a positive attitude you don t get discouraged as easily and like Aimee Mullin you can
achieve whatever you wish no matter your adversity.Another example from A work in progress
that shows positive attitude would be when Aimee Mullin got her new legs and was stating all the
good qualities about her legs instead of being like oh I don t this about them or

While the majority of tea is sold through retail outlets, foodservice volume sales increased at a
faster rate in 2009, 7%, than retail volume sales, 5%. Small independent restaurants, which are
present throughout the country, particularly in rural areas, are the key sellers of foodservice tea.
Small independent restaurants that sell inexpensive food also sell loose tea. These restaurants
are widespread throughout Pakistan and are found in both rural and urban areas. Restaurants that
target middle and upper income groups generally sell packaged/branded tea. Lipton and Tapal
are the key brands which are used by foodservice channels. In addition to retail sales through

The FBI Synthesis Essay
For most kids ages five to eighteen, the school environment is where they spend most of their time.
Because of this, it is crucial for the child to believe and know that the environment they are in is
safe. What can adults do to guarantee that peace of mind? They must make sure there are no outside
threats to the children or school. This comes down to the FBI. The Federal Bureau of Investigation
oversees investigating tips given to them about potential threats. However, they let one slip
through with Nikolas Cruz and it ended in the death of fourteen children and three school staff
members. Due to their job and role in our safety, the FBI is to blame for the Parkland High School

However, the bureau failed to uphold their end. Granted, the FBI can t catch every single

According to the FBI director Christopher Wray, the agency receives, on average, 2,101 calls to

Cultural Values In The Odyssey
Thousands of peoples of thousands of cultures exist today. Each existing culture possesses customs
valuable to its people. One method of discovering the importance of certain customs to cultures is to
examine their literature. For example, Homer conveys many significant Greek customs throughout
the novel, The Odyssey. In his novel, he explains the importance of hospitality to the Greeks
through the actions of Circe, the goddess, when she takes care of Odysseuss men, and Maron when
he provides a gift of gratitude to Odysseus. A need for order and justification also exemplifies
another important custom of the Greeks.Author Homer utilizes examples of Odysseus s murdering
of the suitors who take over his home and Poseidon s punishment to Odysseus for hurting his son
to convey the importance of the importance of justice to the Greeks . Homer explains this
importance through a cause and effect punishment system from disobeying the gods orders. Piety
models another cultural value of the Greeks through Homer s book, which he explains through
details of Odysseus sacrifices, man s prayers to the gods, and mans humility to the gods power.
Through the hospitality of Circe and Polyphemus, the need for order and justification in obeying
the gods, and piety for the gods orders, Homer reflects important customs to the Greeks in The
Odyssey.

Uses and Misuses of Technology
This company is considered a high tech company and in the past year opened offices in Boston,
MA and San Francisco, CA closer to the hubs of other known high tech companies and innovation.
The goal of these moves is to re define the company as a true high tech company with a focus on
health care as opposed to a health care revenue cycle vendor that has technology. They also want to
take advantage of the local IT talent pool and attract the best and brightest.
The company s portfolio has always included a software and hardware component, but has
recently changed its platform to SaaS (software as a service). The SaaS solution is typically
accessed by customers using a web service and has become a common delivery model for many
business applications (Wikipedia, 2015). This change has allowed the company to start moving
away from costly, difficult and hard to maintain software/hardware implementations.
Unfortunately, during this transition to the new platform lots of customers will still need to use the
legacy software and hardware. The company will have to continue to maintain these solutions until
all customers have successfully moved to the new platform. Sun setting legacy solutions has not
been easy for this company to accomplish and they have to spend lots of resources maintaining
older systems.

Marduk s Influence On Greek Mythology
1. In Mesopotamia, Ishtar was used as the word which means goddess. She s a youthful figure, the
goddess of love, also the warlike characteristics. She has no matrimonially connection and was
worshipped as the Venus star.
2. At first, Marduk was equated with the Sumerian healing and incantation god, Asalluhi or with the
son of Enki/Ea, the god of wisdom. Also his emblem means that he may have traits of a god of
irrigation and vegetation. After the Babylon became the empire, Marduk and his wife, Zarpanitum,
became the most important god and goddess in the empire, and he was equated with the Enlil, the
Sumerian king of the gods. The epic Enuma elis, the most important epic about the Marduk,
described that Marduk saved the world from the chaos, created the order of the world through a
heroic battle and created man. The Babylonian kings thought that they were the guardians and

Essay The Gospel of Mark
INTRODUCTION
At the risk of being judgmental this book is very complicated. The points are many and varied.
In his lead up to his commentary proper Myers makes many points as he expounds the many
topics that would influence that commentary. The World of Jesus and the World of Mark, the
filters and models of that social world, the cross cultural history and the socio economic tensions
of both worlds are all considered. The Jewish War is also a point to consider in that it occurs
around the time of writing and most of the historicity comes from the works of Josephus. The
major point to consider however is Myers self confessed socio historical hermeneutic.

The hypotheses on how this Gospel originated are many and varied. The continuity of the actual
message of the story of the life of Jesus seems, it would be generally agreed, to hinge on the Gospel
of Mark being a source for the other Synoptic gospels at least. Much argument has also gone on
about the place and time of writing of Mark and how this influences the traditioning or the handing
on of the story. How the original written version came to be from the oral process is also a cause
for the concern as regards continuity of the story. Was it faithfully translated?
Nineham states that Jesus very character was determined by the particular circumstances in which
the tradition was handed down. Those who kept it shaped the tradition itself. They had their own
motives and beliefs and these have influenced the tradition that has brought out the character of
Jesus as we know today (Nineham 1986: 21).
This traditioning was a process that began by orally recounting the story at private or public
gatherings. The public gatherings being more favoured because preachers or teachers, that is those
entrusted with the traditioning process, would have told the story at worship or catechumen
gatherings (Nineham 1986: 22).
As is sometimes the practice with preaching today so it may have been in the first century. Anyone
telling the story would be driven by a particular need of the time, for example if a message on good
neighbours was needed then the

Historical Context Of Babylon Revisited
Knowing the historical context of a work is crucial to understanding both its general meaning and
its deeper essence. Often times, authors use their works as outlets to freely express their personal
feelings toward a social trend or issue. As such, the time in which a story is written can have a
strong influence on the message the author is trying to convey to his or her reader. Their personal
reflections can be asserted in many ways; among the most common being through the characters
themselves and their development throughout the work, the setting, and the implied themes.
An example of a work that is heavily influenced by the time period in which it was written is F.
Scott Fitzgerald s short story Babylon Revisited. Set in Paris during the 1920s, this work
delineates the story of a man named Charlie Wales who was at the pinnacle of his life when he
succumbed to greed, irresponsibility, and addiction. As a result of his carelessness, Wales
experiences a tragic downfall. He not only endures the death of his wife Helen, but he also loses his
material fortune, his reputation, and most importantly the custody of his daughter Honoria.
The time in which this story occurs the 1920s is vital to the plot. Dubbed The Roaring 20s, this
period is notorious for glamorizing lifestyles centered around materialism, gluttony, and self
absorption. The early 20th century brought about extreme social and political changes that
influenced the lifestyles and attitudes of the public.

Florence Art School Research Paper
Florence requires more advanced education in the arts. I propose that a new academy be
constructed in the city with the purpose of teaching these skills to citizens from across Europe.
The main concern for this academy is the curriculum. First of all, there should be an emphasis on
Humanism, because it s a belief system growing in popularity that has been advancing the arts so
far and has been restoring Roman design elements in all mediums of art, most notably observable
in architecture and perspective. Next, I should specify the materials that will be taught. There will
be a focus in architecture, painting, metalworking, ceramics and sculpture. There will also be a
language requirement, calling for students to learn classical Latin and Greek while at the
Academies, allowing for them to read original Roman and Greek texts. This will allow them to
draw inspiration for their work. As someone who learned the secrets of Architecture by studying
Ancient Roman structures and texts, I can attest to their ingenuity and knowledge, some of which,
remains undiscovered. In addition, I propose that a library be constructed in order for students to

Demise of the Weimar Republic
The demise of the Weimar Republic did not occur due to one sole reason, but because of a number
of short and long term factors. The economic, political and international pressure placed on the
people of Germany ensured the loathing of the forced governmental rule. The immediate impact of
the Great Depression of 1929, which has been debated and considered by most historians to be the
dominant factor in the downfall of the democratic experiment which subsequently led to continuous
political instability ultimately saw the collapse of the first democratic government of Germany.

losers of the hyperinflation were those with a fixed income, the working class, people living off
their savings and wage earners. By June 1923, the government had lost control of the economy, as
strikes swepped the country as workers protested about the rising unemployment and the failure of
their wages to keep up with the cost of living. In August, the govenment finally fell, with
President Ebert called for the leader of the German people party, Streseman, to form a new party.
He formed the great coalition which brought together left and right wing. In the next six years,
German society picked up with the induction into the League of Nations, the Dawes plan of 1924
which provided foreign loans to Germany and the Young Plan which saw the reduction in Germany
s reparation figure by 95 million. The downside of Germany s new economic prosperity meant that
society was living off borrowed money and was over dependant on foreign loans and investment.
The economic power was concentrated in the hands of influential industrialists and bankers and
employment was still on the rise. Within these six years, the Weimar republicsurprisingly enjoyed a

Ambiguistic Role Of Semantics
MODE OF INDISTINCTNESS IN SEMANTICS Abstract Language is a mode of communication
which helps us to converse with each other. Linguistics is the base to scientifically learn the
language. Grammar also has main role in learning a language. Semantics is one of the types of
Linguistics that deals with the study of words and its meaning. By using a word having same
structure it causes Ambiguity (indistinctness) in some place. If a word gives more than one
meaning it is called Ambiguous. This manuscript deals with the types of Ambiguities in Semantics.

Language is a system for making meanings, a semantic system, with other systems for encoding

Juliet threatens the lovers plans, he is not a blocking character. Moreover, in the tomb scene,
Paris acquits himself well, displaying a depth of affection for Juliet and earning Romeo s praise.
Juliet on the other and has absolutely no interest in Paris, this is another illustration of unrequited
love. Taking this into consideration I believe that Paris does not only love Juliet out of lust
because in the tomb scene Paris puts his own life on the line to save the one he claims to love. Alas

Contraceptives Vs. Pills
Granted this form of contraceptive along with the condom has been one of the earliest
inventions that are still used to this day. Honestly, I don t ever think they would ever have a
100% contraceptive that would prevent a pregnancy or the ability to protect you form an STD.
My reasoning for this is due to if their is someone who still manage to get pregnant or infected
while using that magical product. Can easily then sue the inventor for false advertisement, I am
sure the company would not risk their business either. If you notice, even products who claim
that a product has a full affect, it would be a 99.9%. In case if by some reason it does not work
for that individual, they have that .1% of why it did t work for them. No pills, no condoms, no
spermicide, and it s far more effective than any birth controlcurrently on the market. In every test
of the product, the only failure rate out of 250 volunteers was due to an improper injection of the
polymer. Barring that one instance of error, the polymer has been 100% effective. No other form of
birth control can say that.

How Did The Nile River Affect Ancient Egypt
The Nile River is the biggest river in the world with its 4,258 mile length. The Nile River gave
power he Egyptians because it let them get their money from farming and that led to making
better weapons, armor, big pyramids, which shows their power, and a big army which took over a
lot of countries. They also made a calendar because the NileRiver had this paper like reed that they
turned into paper and they wrote down days, and months on it. Geographical features of the Nile
River and the Himalayas have impacted what the civilization will do for almost centuries. The
Nile influenced on what the Egyptians did because of the God that they made up for it and the
resources by it. They got the God of the Nile s name, Hapi, because of the occasional flooding
that goes on there, they also call him the Father of Gods because of how he nourishes the rich
harvest they had. The farmer use this river to grow their crops by using canals that they
personally built or the workers built to get water to them instead of having to go to the river and
getting water with a bucket, but before all of this were fruit trees, and a bunch fish that swam in the

Since they don t have currency to buy things they just trade things like wool, salt, tea,
sheepskins, furs, dried meat, carpets, wool cloth, and silks. You would usually trade something
you have a lot of for something that you don t have a lot of, like if you have a lot of dried meat and
the other person doesn t have a lot of that and wants to trade you wool cloth you re supposed to
take that deal so you don t die in the winter. If you don t have food or at least a farm you will die
because people just usually stay inside all day over there and don t go outside so they can t trade
for something that you are in need for. The weather there is also very harsh because you could be

Intimate Partner Violence And Sexual Abuse Essay
Parents who perpetrate or suffer from intimate partner violence are more likely to be parents who
mistreat their own children. The explanation that links these two together is dissociation, which
allows parents who are abusers to remain distant from and minimize sympathy toward their victims.
Additionally, there is a higher rate of dissociation disorders among intimate partner violence
survivors and perpetrators. The objective of the study performed by Webermann, Brand, and
Chasson in 2004 was to see how prevalent intimate partner violence is among those who commit
childhood maltreatment. To gather this data, dissociative disorder clinicians reported on the rates
of childhood maltreatment and intimate partner violence from 275 patients and assessed the
associations between childhood maltreatment and partner violence. The results showed that there
was a correlation between the two factors and that physical abuse was associated with physical
spouse violence, while neglect was associated with emotional spouse violence (Webermann,
Brand, Chasson, 2014). Intimate partner violence (or IPV) encompasses physical, sexual,
psychological, or emotional harm from a partner. Approximately 25 percent of women and only
1.5 percent of men endure severe physical abuse, while 20 percent of women experience rape, the
number for men is still 1.5 percent. Additionally, 50 percent of both men and women experience
some kind of psychological aggression. This means that women are typically

Cognitive Biases In Research
Cognitive biases refer to the tendencies of thinking in certain ways that can lead to the systematic
deviations from the standard of rationality or the good judgment which are often studied in
behavioral economics and psychology. The reality of biases according to many psychological
scholars is confirmed by the replicable research since there are numerous controversies regarding
the classification and explanation of these biases. Heuristics can be termed as the effects of the
information processing rules or the mental shortcuts that are used by the brain in production of
decisions or judgments (Tversky, Amos; Kahneman, Daniel 1983). The different forms of biases
are cognitive bias also known as cold bias and motivational bias also known as... Show more

This lends me it building confidence in my own personal beliefs a situation that brought about a
total failure. For instance, during the class discussions I believed to be the most talkative student
without knowing that I was supporting the wrong topic of discussion. In most cases, this
overconfidence brought about embarrassment rather than the success. To rectify these incidences I
had to learn on how to give my fellow group members humble time to contribute to the discussion.
As seen in my experience my side bias can lead to poor decision making like in the case of political

  • 2. The Brain And Its Effect On Brain Development Teenagers are susceptible to engaging in risky behaviors such as, unprotected sex, drug abuse, and unhealthy lifestyles because of the natural sequence of our brain development. Myelination and maturation of the neurons in the brain work from the back of the brain towards the front. This is important because the prefrontal cortexis located at the front of the brainand is responsible for problem solving, processing complex thoughts, a decision making. The limbic systemis at the base of the brain and is responsible for emotions such as fear and anxiety. Therefore, the limbic system matures and is myelinated before the prefrontal cortex. The connections in the emotional center of the brain are stronger and more efficient than the part of the brain that allows higher levels of problem solving and the ability to regulate those powerful emotions. Once adolescence is reached, hormones also play an important role in development by directly affecting the amygdala, which in turn, results in a more active part of the brain. This development of the brain isn t fully completed until years after the teenage stage of life. Consequently, teenagers are emotional because they are extra sensitive to neurotransmitters like dopamine, the rewarding pleasure chemicals. Due to this, decisions are often not well regulated by caution, refection, or planning. It isn t until after a decision has been made that the negative effects are taken into consideration. So, engaging in risky behaviors excites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since that glorious day American s have enjoyed the delicious taste of pizza. Pizza is a world wide food that is savored in many countries across the globe. It was first created in Naples, as an inexpensive food for un wealthy common folks. It started out as flatbreads topped with assorted fixings like cheese, oil, tomatoes, and garlic. Pizza has evolved over time into what we know it as today. Popular toppings on the common American pizza are sausage, pepperoni, cheese, veggie, and bacon. This method is carried out in different rounds, where one pizza topping will be dropped after each round. The pizza topping that has the fewest first place votes gets eliminated. When there are only two pizza toppings remaining the topping with the most first place votes is the winner of plurality with elimination. I created a table to show the results of the different rounds. The table is similar to the preference chart, but the rows are only showing the first place selections. It is important to understand that whenever a pizza topping gets eliminated it is taken out of the order. The pizza topping that was directly below the one that got eliminated will move up in the order. For example, the first round bacon got the least amount of first place votes. Therefore, bacon was eliminated and anything below bacon was moved up in ranking. So if the order was bacon, sausage, pepperoni, cheese, then veggie the order would change to sausage, pepperoni, cheese, then veggie to accommodate the fact that bacon was eliminated. Looking at the second round on the chart, the orders changed significantly as well as the scores. In the second round, veggie got eliminated leaving pepperoni, sausage, and cheese still in the running. In the third and final round pepperoni was eliminated. The pizza topping that had the most first place votes after eliminating pepperoni was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Socrates Statement Of An Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living In this post it is my goal to analyze Plato s The Apology showing that Socrates statement of an unexamined life is not worth living stands as Socrates statement of his own worth, wisdom, and place in Athenian society. Socrates is brought to trial to address two charges: the first is the fruit of a legacy of embarrassment he has inflicted on the intelligentsia of Athens and the second is the accusation of atheism and corrupting the youth brought to the court by Meletus, Anytus and Lycon. It can be assumed through reading of the footnotes, this trial comes on the heels of a political ordeal in which Athens was briefly ruled by an Oligarchy known as The Thirty Tyrants in 404 BCE. This appears to set the stage for a round of trials and convictions of Athenians who sympathized with the Spartan occupation, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In regards to the first accusation Socrates states that his primary life s goal has been to investigate those who claim to have wisdom via rhetorical dialogue and he has come to find the subjects of his investigation lacking in actual wisdom. This, he posits, is why Apollo (or the Delphi Oracle as he refers to the god) has named him the wisest man in Athens. Socrates conjectures that it is because of his questioning of the wise and the powerful that he has come to make enemies of many Athenians who themselves possess power and clout. The result, he claims, is the trial that The Apology concerns. The second and more prescient charge is that of corrupting the youth, making weaker arguments the stronger, and of denying the existence of the gods. Socrates considers this charge to be the current fruits of the former charge and spurious as well. He cross examines Meletus and, through a line of questioning regarding the charges against him, shows that Meletus is logically flawed in his condemnation of Socrates. He ... The continuity of the actual message of the story of the life of Jesus seems, it would be generally agreed, to hinge on the Gospel of Mark being a source for the other Synoptic gospels at least. Much argument has also gone on about the place and time of writing of Mark and how this influences the traditioning or the handing on of the story. How the original written version came to be from the oral process is also a cause for the concern as regards continuity of the story. Was it faithfully translated? Nineham states that Jesus very character was determined by the particular circumstances in which the tradition was handed down. Those who kept it shaped the tradition itself. They had their own motives and beliefs and these have influenced the tradition that has brought out the character of Jesus as we know today (Nineham 1986: 21). This traditioning was a process that began by orally recounting the story at private or public gatherings. The public gatherings being more favoured because preachers or teachers, that is those entrusted with the traditioning process, would have told the story at worship or catechumen gatherings (Nineham 1986: 22). • 32. Historical Context Of Babylon Revisited Knowing the historical context of a work is crucial to understanding both its general meaning and its deeper essence. Often times, authors use their works as outlets to freely express their personal feelings toward a social trend or issue. As such, the time in which a story is written can have a strong influence on the message the author is trying to convey to his or her reader. Their personal reflections can be asserted in many ways; among the most common being through the characters themselves and their development throughout the work, the setting, and the implied themes. An example of a work that is heavily influenced by the time period in which it was written is F. Scott Fitzgerald s short story Babylon Revisited. Set in Paris during the 1920s, this work delineates the story of a man named Charlie Wales who was at the pinnacle of his life when he succumbed to greed, irresponsibility, and addiction. As a result of his carelessness, Wales experiences a tragic downfall. He not only endures the death of his wife Helen, but he also loses his material fortune, his reputation, and most importantly the custody of his daughter Honoria. The time in which this story occurs the 1920s is vital to the plot. Dubbed The Roaring 20s, this period is notorious for glamorizing lifestyles centered around materialism, gluttony, and self absorption. • 45. Intimate Partner Violence And Sexual Abuse Essay Parents who perpetrate or suffer from intimate partner violence are more likely to be parents who mistreat their own children. The explanation that links these two together is dissociation, which allows parents who are abusers to remain distant from and minimize sympathy toward their victims. Additionally, there is a higher rate of dissociation disorders among intimate partner violence survivors and perpetrators. The objective of the study performed by Webermann, Brand, and Chasson in 2004 was to see how prevalent intimate partner violence is among those who commit childhood maltreatment. To gather this data, dissociative disorder clinicians reported on the rates of childhood maltreatment and intimate partner violence from 275 patients and assessed the associations between childhood maltreatment and partner violence. The results showed that there was a correlation between the two factors and that physical abuse was associated with physical spouse violence, while neglect was associated with emotional spouse violence (Webermann, Brand, Chasson, 2014). Additionally, 50 percent of both men and women experience some kind of psychological aggression. This means that women are typically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
