everything he has lost and look at life on a more spiritual level. Both speakers are experiencing
what it feels like to be lonely because the people that were once there for them have either left or
they have passed away. With a melancholic and nostalgic tone, both poems express the idea that
people, youth, and the material world are all transient. However, both poems acknowledge that
although the pleasures and good things in life are fleeting, the solutions to the problem is God.
The speaker in The Lament of the Old Woman of Beare is feeling nostalgic, as she remembers
what the world was like during her younger years. The speaker says, I ve had my time with

Here she is comparing the way she once lived to how she lives now. This example shows how she
has aged because she is no longer drinking wine with young kings and having fun. Instead, she is
drinking whey, a less flattering drink, with old women. While in exile, speaker of The Wanderer
also chooses to focus on the joys that no longer exist. He has lost his family, his lord, and his
home, and has no choice but to go into exile. The Wandererquestions what happened to the

Being an extrovert, I don t enjoy silences, especially in situations which are constructed around
talking. As a personal goal for each of the negotiations I wanted to stop talking after I had given
my rationale and then ask them plenty of questions once they gave theirs. As a whole this tactic
was relatively successful, however there were several times where I caught myself rambling on
and having to repeat myself. In an attempt to correct this, rather than repeating the same point, I
tried to clarify their rationale by explaining it back to them from what I had understood. This
worked surprisingly well because it forced them to continuously repeat themselves, normally
causing them to get caught up and slowly give away the interests behind their positions. My
greatest strengths of these negotiations were my ability to ease tensions in the room, when
necessary, and the level of preparation I had done. I was very confident on the issues I was
responsible for which allowed me to talk on the matters as much as possible. Also, due to this
level of preparation, especially doing the additional readings, I could help my other team members
