ExxonMobil
Exxon Mobil Corporation is a big oil company. It is an American multinational oil and gas
corporation headquartered in Irving, Texas. It is the largest direct descendant of John D.
Rockefeller s Standard Oil Company and was formed on November 30, 1999, by the merger of
Exxon, which was formerly Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, and Mobil which was formerly
the Standard Oil Company of New York. (Our History, N.D). ExxonMobil had a total of $218.6
Billion in total revenue in 2016. The company s mission statement states that Exxon Mobil
Corporation is committed to being the world s premier petroleum and petrochemical company. To
that end, we must continuously achieve superior financial and operating results while
simultaneously adhering to high ethical standards (Our Guiding Principles, N.D). This
organization is a very known organization all over the world. In 2011, ExxonMobil announced 2
new oil discoveries and gas discovery in the Gulf of Mexico. This discovery has been that largest
discovery found in the Gulf of Mexico. The companies most important stakeholders are the
customers, employees, governments, shareholders, and suppliers. Customers are their stakeholders
because without them the company is not going to survive. Every company in the business worlds

Questions on Terrorist Activities
Why is there heavier activity in certain areas of the world? Chemical, nuclear, and biological
warfare are now becoming more profound as technology develops. As technology becomes more
ubiquitous across nations, the likelihood of attack becomes more eminent. This is particularly
true of Iran who has been explicit in their desire to destroy the civilized world. As this nation
becomes better equipped to attack the United States, the need for intervention becomes more
profound. Terrorism, as indicated by there attack targets, is predicated on fear. The concept of
fear is what drives the profound of often impactful nature of terrorism. In certain areas of the
world, particularly those with high regard for freedom make ideal terrorist targets. The terrorists,
through their actions intend to create a pervasive culture of fear within their target areas. Concepts
of freedom, democracy, and prosperity are often polar opposites of terrorists. They instead, often
intend to enslave, restrict freedom, or impose their own beliefs on others through fear. Areas of the
world that are against these concepts are often targets for terrorist activity. America, Europe, and
Middle Eastern countries seeking freedom or challenging the status quo are therefore likely targets.
Figure 1 in the appendix presents are very short list of prominent terrorist attacks in recent history.
A quick glance at the list reveals that a vast majority of the target areas are in the countries I
mentioned above:

What Is The Main Idea Of Civil Disobedience
The world is full of people who put their self interests first, making the world evil and unjust.
Henry David Thoreau made a speech in 1848 about the government, its injustices, and Theroux
response to each. This speech and latter essay would commonly be known as civil disobedience.
Here, we find everybody living and making rules for their own interest, participating in many evil
activities, and encouraging the rule of injustice. However, we can also find some a few people,
like Thoreau, trying to resist this race in order to stop evil practices and rules. In the essay Civil
DisobedienceThoreau tries to make people, citizens, aware by drawing attention towards the
injustices of American government. He divides the essay into three parts;... Show more content on

Will illustrate some example reflecting why the viewpoint of minority matters too. Will describe
what will happen if the minority view point is negated or supported.
Main point 2 Conscience over the laws. This paragraph will contain the interesting view point of
Thoreau where he says people should do what is right first, not to go by the laws. Will also
describe how the laws are made these days (laws made in the pressure of self interested people)
with some examples. Will describe the situation of solders, how they are put in a shadow of
injustice rules and given the illusion tag of great heroes (if they don t follow the orders given by
their commander blindly, they will be kicked out of the list of great heroes).
Main Point 3 (going against injustices is not a crime, it is the medium to change the mentality of
people and government). This paragraph will give several American historical evidence and
example showing the example of injustice and how people overcame those injustice going against
those injustice. (like slavery, discrimination, women voting rights and so

Oedipus Opening Statement
Opening Statement: Oedipus s blindness, dethroning and his family s devastating end are all
credited to his flawed character and his error in judgment. He s foolish for thinking he could tempt
fate, he s vane for thinking he can change fate and he s blind for not realizing what fate had in
store for him. His foolishness, vanity and blindness resulted in his own tragic downfall.
Evidence:
On his quest for the murderer of Lauis, people are reluctant to speak, telling Oedipus the past is
better left alone. Upon speaking with Tiresias, Oedipus is warned not to pry into theses matters and
let Tiresias leave with his burden of the truth: Let me go home; So shalt thou bear thy load most
easily If thou wilt take my counsel and I mine. Also in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is blind to the truth about his own life. Tiresias, a blind prophet, points out Oedipus s
blindness and plants doubt in Oedipus s mind. But Oedipus ironically mocks the prophets loss of
sight, causing the prophet to lash out explaining, And since you have reproached me with my
blindness, I say you have your sight, and do not see what evils are about you, nor with whom,
nor in what home you are dwelling. Do you know from whom you are? Yea, you are ignorant that
to your own you are an enemy, whether on earth, alive, or under it (15). Earlier on in their
conversation he even alluded to the truth by saying that You live together with those nearest you,

Essay On Sleep Apnea
One of the most common types of sleep disorders that a person may suffer from is sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea is when a person suffers from uncontrolled stops in breathing. People with this
disorder usually stop breathing while asleep. This disorder is caused from blockage in the airway.
When a person is asleep, the airway may become tight because the muscles that keep it open are
relaxed. One form of sleep apneais obstructive sleep apnea. In obstructive sleep apnea, blockage
in the airway may be caused from clotted tissue or fat. Snoring can be caused from any air that
gets through the blockage. When the snoring is stopped and the airway is completely blocked, a
person may stop breathing for about ten to twenty seconds or until the brain recognizes the apnea.
A less common form of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daytime sleepiness is considered to be the most common symptom that a person with sleep
apnea suffers from. Although a person is not aware of the problem that they have, they are aware
of the symptoms because the sleep that they are getting is not good quality sleep. As a result of
the symptoms they are having, the person with sleep apnea will experience a full day of feeling
tired (Davis w.p.). In order to treat sleep apnea, a sleep test called a polysomnography is performed
on the patient. According to Dr. Vince Berger, This test records the patient s brain waves,
heartbeat, and breathing during an entire night. Treatments are available to patients who are
diagnosed with sleep apnea. Some cases of sleep apnea can be treated by advising the patient to
lose weight and to stop sleeping on his or her back. More extreme cases of sleep apnea may
require the patient to have surgery in order to fix the blockage that prevents a person from
breathing. The most common type of treatment that is recommended is a specialized device called a

Hypothesis For Gummy Bear Lab
Purpose: The purpose of this gummy bear lab is too figure out what different types of osmosis
and diffusion can be seen during the lab. Also too see what solutions will cause the gummy bear
to be isotonic, hypotonic, or hypertonic. This will benefit people that may eat a lot of gummy
bears along with drinking sodas and juices, or water this may cause you to become more
dehydrated. This will help people who like to eat gummy bears but don t know what s best to drink
with them.
Hypothesis: I think that the gummy bear in the water solution will grow the most. The gatoraid will
grow the least because it has the most sugar. And the orange Switch will be in the middle.
Materials: Scale, tray, tweezers, spoon, gatoraid, water, switch orange tangerine,... Show more

The results of this lab shows how osmosis, diffusion, hypertonic, and hypotonic solutions. One way
the gummy bear shows osmosis in gummy bears is how the gummy bear in the water solution grew
the most. This gummy bear grew the most because the solution had a higher concentration, this in
turn caused the solution to begin equalizing the concentration on each side of a membrane. The
lab also shows how the semi permeable membrane works; it allows only certain molecules to
pass through it, while others aren t allowed through it. The lab shows this because according to
my results the semi permeable membrane in the gummy bear allowed more water molecules to
pass through it, while the semi permeable membrane didn t let other solution molecules resulting
in the water to have more weight while the other two solutions grew less in weight. The lab also
demonstrates that the solutions with more sugar will gain less in weight. This is because the
solution already has a higher concentration inside it, so less of the solution will go inside the
gummy bear. According to my results the water is a hypotonic solution, while the Orange Switch
and Gatoraid would also be a hypotonic solution due to the fact that all he gummy bears gained
mass. If it were to be a isotonic solution the gummy bear would need to stay the same mass. If any
of the solution would be a hypertonic solution the gummy bear would to shrink in

Egg Science Project
I am doing the project ВЁ Is an egg denser in saltwater or tap water?ВЁ While doing this project,
I found a lot of things out. Objects such as eggs sink in liquids when their denser is greater than
the liquid their in. It helps keep less denser materials floating. Density means the degree of
compactness of a substance. I will be using EB eggs in my project. EB eggs are also known as
England s Best. Since we will be using eggs in my experiment, thatВґs what s we are going to be
talking about. The outer layer of a egg is called a shell. Eggs have lots of protein, vitamins,

Andrew Jackson s Characterization Of The Age Of Jackson
Andrew Jackson first had a military career that evolved into a political career in the Age of
Jackson. The Age of Jackson is an accurate characterization of the era between 1815 and 1845,
because Jackson dominated the political sphere in the US. He was the dominant political figure that
was almost as influential and as representative as Martin Van Buren. Van Buren was the only
politician that could challenge Andrew Jacksonin politics, because Jackson s characterization
embodied the views held in the first 40 years of the early 1800s.
Does that seem an apt characterization?
Jackson maintained his image as a dominant figure as president from 1828 to 1837 when he
fought for southerners as he garnered the attention of Whigs to preserve the Union. Jackson is
regarded as a national hero that excelled in military and politics. Examples of this accurate
characterization are his title as the Indian Fighter and his actions as President of the United
States. In The Battle of New Orleans and Seminole Wars. His actions, while extremely
xenophobic and racist, were revered by the general public, but he is still seen as a national
historical figure. He had a decisive victory over the British in the Battle of New Orleans when he
prevented the British from taking the Louisiana Purchase despite being outnumbered by around
10,000 troops. He was an astute militarily strategist that anticipated and fended off British at the
Siege of Fort St. Philip in a critical point of the Battle of New

Notice To Defendant Summary
Johnson further contends that the circuit court abused its discretion by failing to exclude the
Notice to Defendant and the OPD Form because the documents probative value was substantially
outweighed by the danger of unfair prejudice. Specifically, Johnson asserts that the documents
should have been excluded because they indicate that he had a pending criminal case, and that they
indicate that he is indigent. The State, for its part, asserts that the documents were critical to
establish that the contraband at issue here belonged to Johnson, and that any prejudice may have
suffered did not substantially outweigh the evidence s probative value. We agree with the State.
Although a judge has no discretion to admit irrelevant evidence, a judge does have considerable
discretion to exclude evidence if its probative value is substantially outweighed by the danger of
unfair prejudice, confusion of the issues, or misleading the jury, or by considerations of undue delay,
waste of time, or needless presentation of cumulative evidence. Md. Rule 5 403. Decisions in this
realm are left to the sound discretion of the trial judge and will be reversed only upon a clear

Without the admission of the documents to give context to how the contraband was discovered,
there are at least four individuals who might reasonably have possessed the contraband. To be sure,
the parties contest the persuasive value of these documents vigorously. The State, maintains that the
contraband was found in the trunk of a vehicle with multiple occupants and individuals to whom the
vehicle was registered was not among the occupants. Whereas Johnson maintains that the
documents are unreliable. Regardless of their persuasive value, the documents found with the
vehicle were perhaps the only mechanisms to distinguish the possessor of the contraband from the
numerous others who had access to the

The Cost Of The Asset
Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible
assets that have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be
allocated and depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as
well as any possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only
include the purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if
applicable). Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an
expense and does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow
the asset to become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are
acceptable methods used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s
day to day operations to expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to
prorating tangible and intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life
of the asset. For an item to be considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business
and not for resale. Useful life should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from
one view point to another. Estimated useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to
contribute to usefulness to a company. Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception
of land, all assets are

There are no Children Here Essay
Alex Kotlowitz s book, There are No Children Here, is a story about two boys, Pharoah and
Lafeyette Rivers growing in the late 1980 s in Henry Horner, a housing project in Chicago. The
boys try to retain their youth while they see constant gang violence, death of close friends, their
brother in jail and their dad struggling with a drug addiction.
In Horner, there are two gangs that claim it as their turf, and the Rivers family is constantly
ducking from shots of gunfire there. They live in an overcrowded apartment with leaky facets,
heating problems and animal carcasses in the basement. The boys mother, LaJoe, tries to keep them
away from gangs and violence since her eldest children fell to the harsh ... Show more content on

He continued to tell his mother he was too young to comprehend it all, as if he were trying to
prolong his childhood (Kotlowitz 216). Both boys did recognized at an early age that death occurs
frequently in their neighborhood. They had several friends die and they were reminded of this
every time gunfire went off outside the apartment. Pharoah tried to maintain his childhood the best
he could and excelled in school as a coping mechanism. Lafeyette, at thirteen, acted as a parent to
fill his mother s role when she was out.
The government makes one of the biggest contributions to the welfare of the family by providing
financial safety. The problem is that the government fails to show any concern for these families
unless it is brought to their attention, and even then nothing is changed. The lack of interest by the
housing authorities leads to the neglect of Horner for over fifteen years. The rotting carcasses
explained the putrid odor rising from the Riverses toilet. It wasn t aborted fetuses, as LaJoe had
though. It was dead animals, the stench of rotting flesh rising through the pipes (Kotlowitz 241).
The government leaves the projects to fend for themselves, which increased the communities
turmoil. If the government and the people worked together, more problems could be solved.
The family is the closest, most stable element in the boys life. LaJoe tries hard to make sure the
boys are surrounded with positive influences so that they will grow up secure. This

TITLE
Self awareness and the locus of the self knowledge development: a comparison study to investigate
developmental sequences using semi structured self concept interviews.
ABSTRACT
This study examines the view that self awareness gradually develops with a shift from physical to
psychological characteristics whilst the locus of self knowledge progressively transfers from others
to the self. Previous research implementing semi structured self concept interviews to investigate
self descriptions amongst young children of various age groups supported these findings,
underpinning the theories of a gradual emergence and elaboration of the self as a subject and the
self as an object of knowledge. In the current study, a comparison ... Show more content on

Rosenberg s (ibid) findings indicated that younger children tend to describe more physical activities
and characteristics whilst this gradually develops to include relationships and interpersonal traits,
eventually shifting to more inner qualities. Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University,
2010, pp. 21 22) also found that the locus of self knowledge gradually shifted from a reliance on
another person as point of reference for judging themselves, towards the self.
This study intends to investigate, and confirm, the findings of Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The
Open University, 2010, pp. 21 22) by analysing transcripts of semi structured interviews with two
children aged eight and sixteen. This was done within the meaning of investigating the development
of the self concept and the locus of self knowledge.
METHOD
Design
The study is a comparison of the self descriptions provided by two young people during one to one
semi structured self concept interviews.
Participants
Two participants participated in this study; an eight year old girl (Annie), and a sixteen year old

Urinary Incontinence in Dogs
If your dog is unable to control their ability to hold their urine until they re outside, they re probably
suffering from urinary incontinence. A small amount of urine will start to drip from the vulva or
urethra during pets nap or while they sleep. In a female dog, estrogen has an impacting result,
giving strength to the muscular tissue of the bladder. Within the male dog, testosterone as estrogen
has an impact result as well. Everything that decreases or increases the levels of those hormones
also consists of inability in holding urine.
As a dog ages, the function of those hormones on they re own decrease. The hormone responsive
incontinence happens with neutered dogs male and female and sometimes in spayed cats but it is
more often seen in female dogs. The pet may urinate normally, but they leak urine when resting or
sleeping. Hormone responsive incontinence can occur later on after a pet is neutered. Once in a
blue moon, the inability to control urine can happen in younger animals due to congenital anatomic
abnormalities. Birth defects cause incontinence in young animals which is rare. If only one or both
of the ureters by pass the bladder and also connect to a wrong place as the urethra or vagina, the
young pup will drip urine. A least common cause is a condition called Vulvo Vaginal Stenosis
where the vagina or the level where the urethra ends is narrowed. Once in a while urinating, some
urine will get stuck in the vagina in front of this

the book titled San Manuel Bueno, Martyr is led by a woman named Angela ( Angelita )
Carballino. Living in Spain during the 1930s, Angela recounts the experience of the presence of
a parish priest named in her village of Valverde de Lucerna, as she claims he pervaded the most
secret life of my soul (207). What complicates this confessional is the clarity in who is
confessing what to whom. The confessions reveal Don Manuel to be quite the contradiction

He does however do all in his power to suppress doubts, trying to keep her out of what he sees as

thing is to live... (240). Don Manuel possibly broke some of the hope he initially gave to Angela
by revealing the truth to her, but to the rest of the village, they are happily remaining in this
bubble of hope and not breaking the mold. Even Angelita s brother, Lazarus, has experienced the
New World and its dark information but chooses to believe in Don Manuel s logic. Ultimately,
that is his Don Manuel s goal. For Don Manuel, to deceive is to prevent harm; to reveal is to
harm (as he himself has experienced). Above all else, Don Manuel did not use his lie or role as
a tool to cause harm. His role as a priest was used for giving meaning and purpose to people who
did not have the opportunities to discover fulfillment easily elsewhere. He has suffered a dark
past inherited from his father of struggling against ending his own life, so he must make the
villagers understand how important it is to live and not let death and this darkness torment
them in life like it has for him and his own father. In his and his father s own struggles he
emphasizes How that water beckons me in its deep quiet! (243). Don Manuel may not be a saint
but he is doing more good to others than harm. He understands that to live life as one who
doubts can be too much to bear, for it opens up doors to places without answers and hope. To
deceive is a small price to pay when he can save so many lives with his human sense of

Dorothea Lange was born on the 26th of May, in 1895, in New Jersey. When she was young, she
suffered from polio, a paralysis, which left her crippling for the rest of her life. More than once,
Lange stated that her condition made her more sensitive to the suffering of others, which was a
fundamental aspect of her work.
In August 1935, Roy Stryker offered Lange a job with Resettlement Administration, which she took
immediately. She worked for the Resettlement Administration until 1943, documenting societies
outcasts. Lange became the most widely published government photographer of the 1930 s.
After more than a decade of studio portraits, Lange began to document the population of San
Francisco. Her work in depicting men and women during the ... Show more content on

This financial disaster market the commence of the Great Depression, an era marked by poverty
and misery. William Faulkner managed to perfectly depict the consequences and negative effects,
as he portraited a poor family of the Mississippi.
The Great Depression led to the creation of New Deal created by President Franklin Roosevelt,
which was a series of economic policies, to provide relief for millions of Americans. In 1935,
Lange was offered a job in the Resettlement Administration, a New Deal U.S Federal agency, which
she took immediately. She was later recognized for the most widely published governmental
photographer, for depicting the societies outcast so exceptionally.
The similarities between the book As I Lay Dying and the photographs and work of Dorothea Lange
are noticeable. On the one hand, William Faulkner described a real situation, the consequences of
it, by portraying them in a poor family whose economic difficulties were notorious. In his novel,
William Faulkner, addressed the theme of the Great Depression, a day after it had begun. Instead,
Dorothea Lange used her techniques to photograph the reactions and feelings of those who were hit

Murders In The Rue Morgue
In The Murders in the Rue Morgue a story about solving a murder case, Edgar Allan Poe presents
a critique on strict logical analysis in life. Dupin struggles with accepting the logic of the police
that are trying to solve the murder, which is represented by Dupin s special reasoning power and
how Dupin knew what to do when the police could not find an answer to the murders (Poe 2 4).
With the changing of acts from Parts 1 2 to Part 3 Poe goes from vividly descriptive language on
ingenuity to a vicious critique on pure analytical thinking, Poe dismisses the common view at the
time that everything can, and should, be explained through analytical reasoning. The echoes of war
can be heard from the two forces trying to solve the murders. Poe... Show more content on

The second paragraph on the second page seems to say that Poe, like many other romantic
inspired writers at the time, sees that the power of unusual reasoning and analytical reasoning to
be two entirely different abilities (Poe). Poe even chooses to change his description of Dupin s
reasoning ability from special to unusual, signifying an uncanny ability that Dupin has that the
unnamed narrator has never experienced before(Poe 2). But at the end of the paragraph Poe
shows the harshness of Dupin s gift. Though Poe continues to use visual imagery such as, His
eyes looked empty and far away, his choice of descriptive terms begins to intensify (Poe 2). Two
Dupins suggests that Dupin himself has two sides to him, the special reasoning side and the
unusual reasoning side (Poe 2). The special reasoning side is seen as the one who coldly put
things together and the unusual reasoning aspect to Dupin is viewed as the part of him that
would just as coldly took them apart, which shows Poe s conflict with how much ingenuity should
be within a person (Poe 2). Already Poe is shifting from a complete trust in unbelievable reasoning

Social Implications Of Animal Testing Essay
Social implications:
There are also positive and negative social implications. There is often not a huge amount of
success around animal testing. Things that work on animals often don t work and cannot prove to
work on humans. The testing of just one substance can involve using up to 800 animals, and could
cost over $6 million. This proves that animal testing is expensive, time consuming, unpredictable,
and not easily reproducible. When an animal test doesn t end successfully it s costing a lot of
money. This money could be spent on more necessary things that would benefit the public. Animal
testing can be dangerous to society and the people who the drugs are tested on after the animals.

Richard Wagner Music Analysis
Music is the most universal of all languages. Without words it can break a strong man into tears,
reduce a brave woman to terror, and turn the most high strung to a state of peace. Unfortunately, the
worth of music in today s society tends to be decided by its perceived popularity, rather than its use
of technique and emotion. This is one of the many reasons Richard Wagnertends to be
underappreciated. Despite his masterful compositions and development of many imperative
techniques, much of his music is listened to by few and appreciated by fewer. However, that does
not diminish any of what he has done for the world of music, and the Romantic Era. Richard
Wagner is the most influential composer of the Romantic Era for his use of leitmotiv, command of
the orchestra, emotional expression in music, and contribution to the romantic notion of
nationalism. The camera zooms in on the protagonist, surrounded by enemies. They re fighting with
everything they have, and despite the odds are succeeding. A few simple notes, and everyone in the
movie theater knows the villain is about to enter the room the stakes are higher than ever. This is an
example of leitmotif, an important musical tactic that the modern Western world has Wagner to
thank for. Leitmotif is a short theme associated with a specific character or situation. Wagner
developed the technique, and used many of these in his operas (Fuller). This technique has become
very popular in film, musical theater, and

2.1 Technical Preparation
A good penetration tester must be technically competent and methodical. In many situations, a test
team is more appropriate than an individual tester. 2 Care must be taken in selecting, installing and
configuring the platforms used to perform the testing. Although there are several commercial tools
that can be used to perform penetration tests such as Internet ScannerВ® from Internet Security
Systems3, free tools will be used throughout this testing. Kurtz and Prosise make an excellent point
when they claim; Running a commercial vulnerability scanner is penetration testing is a myth. 4
There are several problems with simply running a vulnerability scanner and assuming that a
complete penetration test has been performed. The first is that the vulnerability scanners are only as
good as the person running them. As will be discussed latter in this paper, there is more to
performing a penetration test than just finding

Applying encaustic process, which is known as a hot wax painting, Jasper John created this screen

images that ran through his mindwhile he was lying in the bathtub. He included items he saw
around the room and things he was thinking about. Some of the elements in this piece are his

Much Ado About Nothing Deception
In the works Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare and A Doll s House by Henrik
Ibsen, the main characters are deceived within the reliable relationships they created in society.
Such deception occurs when Claudio s trust in his friends and family interferes with his marriage
to Hero. Similarly, when Nora deceives Torvald by hiding the truth and putting too much trust in
her friends. These two events symbolize the similarities of the works and represent a connection of
mistrust. The connection between the characters within the two plays demonstrates the tragedies
that occur throughout the plot of the story. The concept of deception connects the roles of the
main characters as they face consequences as represented in both works by creating relationships
and trust within their societies. Deception plays a critical role between Nora and Torvald s society

Common Core State Standards have been a hot topic for a few years. While both sides of the

agree that in educationa national set of standards is necessary for this country. This is not the first
time in history that America s educational principles have been up for debate. The basic idea of
common core is to prepare students for responsibility as a citizen in this society. Students must be
able to read and distill complex sentences and must be equipped with basic mathematical skills. The

What Was The Events That Justified The United States Entry...
Introduction
When World War 1 started in 1914, United States president Woodrow Wilson promised non
participation of his country. The conflict appeared typical of the rottenness of old Europe which
favored the neutrality position of majority of American citizens. However, a series of implacable
events dragged the United States into the war. This paper will discuss these events that justified the
United States entry into World War 1 while exploring the roles which public opinion should play
when making such decisions in comparison to expert policy makers opinions. In addition, other

These incidents combined with dwindling diplomatic relations between Germany and the United
States increased anti German preconception in America.
Another factor that majorly influenced American public opinion was stories run by British press
regarding invasion of neutral Belgium by Germany. Allegations of small towns being eliminated
and innocent civilians being killed infuriated and shocked the Americans. Although some of these
stories were fabricated to serve as British propaganda, they served their purpose of instigating a
strong anti German sentiment.
The protection of its economic interests was also a major factor which influenced the decision for
America to participate in World War 1. American businessmen such as J.P. Morgan who were
interested in victory of the alliance funded French and British wars. These funds, roughly 3 billion
US Dollars were mainly in form of loans and bond purchases. This led to the fear that incase Central
Powers (Germany, Bulgaria, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire) emerged victorious, the
Allies (France, Britain and Italy) would be unable to repay these debts. As a measure to counter this
risk, these businessmen united to support a campaign movement; Preparedness Movement , which
pushed for America to intervene in the war and support the Allied forces.

Analysis Of The Movie Miss Julie
Creating Reality in Theater Theater was about attracting the middle class crowd to see their play
but also to please the audience. For many years in theater, much of it presented false or unrealistic
concepts. Many authors of playwrights were accustomed to the idea of displaying productions that
were not likely happen in real life. Around the late 19th century, there was a push for creating more
of an authentic and truthful piece of work. Realism was a movement that highlighted the
representation of familiar things in a way that is accurate or true to life (Google). Reality is the
state of things as they actually exist and is the perception of things as they actual exists (Google). In
Miss Julie written by August Strindberg, this play displayed his attempt at representing realism.
Creating reality in theater requires implanting realistic points such as characters, actions, and
dialogue that is accurate to real life. Foremost, characters are a main part of a play. Establishing
characters with relatable backgrounds to people and depth makes the work more believable to the
viewer or reader. Miss Julie, who is twenty five years of age and the main character, she reveals a
lot of information about her past. I learnt from her to mistrust and hate men, for, so far as I could
hear, she always hated men and I swore to her that I would never be a man s slave ( Strindberg
30). The quote gives the reader background information about her mother s past. Her mother spent

Examples Of Intergenerational Issues Of Native People
I think that the intergenerational issues are universal and do not only pertain to Native people. The
issues that arise in the story are very common in current society and these issues have always
existed through different generations. In the story there is no understanding between Christopher
and his father. An example would be when Christopher thought his father wanted him to be a trap
liner but Christopher s father wanted him to go to university. This might have occurred because the
author often referred to his ancestors running trap lines. Another intergenerational issue is poor
communication. A wonderful example is when Christopher s father is asking him if he will go to
university or not. Christopher replies I guess You going

The Importance Of A Relaxed Open Door Policy
Once the line of communication has been open, this brings rules and consequences. By making
yourself available, this helps set the levels of respect. You should set aside certain hours for
availability to your group you re in charge of. It s important to obtain a relaxed open door policy.
This enables freedom within group to approach you about any concerns they may have.
Communication is first established with verbal that eventually leads to hand signals The
Flexibility aspect is introduced in this area. When you can adapt approaches and shift ideas when
new information suggests the need to do so. Being available welcomes new thoughts from peers,
employees, and outside business partners. You also take criticism well by not reacting in a
defensive manner. The importance is about being balanced as a leader this initiates people about
being on trustful level. Accommodations and adjustments display maturity of all the areas that is
expected for them to do. Being able to handle anything that is thrown your way can enabled
strength to be strengthen and weaknesses becoming almost extincted. The emotional aspect of
being a leader is determined from the strength of composure a person has. Emotional intelligence is
a key character trait to develop. Many great leaders understand empathy, and have the ability to
read people s (sometimes unconscious, often unstated) needs and desires. This allows them to
speak to these needs and, when at all possible, to fulfill them. When people feel

I began to play a song, when all of a sudden I just stopped, Mortified, I just started laughing, and
realized that I had stage fright. It wasn t a lot of people, but they were great. They cheered me on,

Homosexual Marriage Analysis
Maggie Gallagher argues that she is not in favor of homosexual marriage which is relationship
view, because it ruins the basic human value, procreation. Her strongest argument according to
her essay would be the continuation of society since at one point in the world, there was a low
population. In addition, as concluded by many scientists, we could stop having children and still
be able to survive with the people and resources that we have. Since this is her main reason for the
argument, she is using Natural Law Theory for her explanation. She believes if there is another
reason to establish a marriage, it would ruin the reputation of a marriage.

Beriberi Research Paper
Introduction: I am going to discuss beriberi. Beriberi is a disease brought on by a Vitamin B 1
(thiamine) deficiency. There are two types of the disease: wet beriberi and dry beriberi. Wet
beriberi can effect heart function and, in the most extreme cases, heart failure. Dry beriberi
damages the nerves and can lead to a loss of muscle strength and, eventually, muscle paralysis. If
left unchecked and untreated, it can cause death.
Symptoms: The symptoms of this disease vary depending on the type, wet or dry. The following
are symptoms of wet beriberi:
shortness of breath during physical activity
rapid heart rate
swollen lower legs
waking up short of breath
decreased muscle function, particularly in the lower legs

A blood test will measure how much Vitamin B 1 is in your blood. A urine test will check the
concentration level of thiamine.
Rapid heartbeats, lower leg swelling, and/or difficulty breathing are all possible signs for beriberi.
During a neurological exam, doctors look for signs like difficulty of walking, lack of coordination,
droopy eyelids, and impaired reflexes. Later stages of beriberi will show memory loss, confusion,
or delusions.
Causes: The cause for this disease is a diet low in Vitamin B 1. Dynamics can contribute:
Abusing alcohol can make it difficult for your body to absorb and store Vitamin B 1.
Genetic beriberi is a rare condition that prevents the body from absorbing Vitamin B 1.
Pregnant women with hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid gland) need extra vitamin B 1.
Prolonged diarrhea makes it difficult for your body to absorb Vitamin B 1. Treatments: The
treatment for this disease is with thiamine supplements. Your physician might prescribe a thiamine
pill or shot. Monitoring and keeping up with your progress is usually done with follow up blood
tests that show how well your body is absorbing the

Family Is Family
Family is the most important thing in the world.
This famous quote by princess Diana always clicks into my mind when I hear the word family..
Families do have to face quarrels and struggles in life but the most important thing is that they
have to face it with full strength and patience. These deep relationships carry lots of baggage and
hurt as well. All the people in this world have to face complexities and conundrums of familial
love . It once happened with me too . Sometimes these problem get into such big issues but
sometimes people get over it because of the close and inseparable bond that exists. No matter what
happens between them , the people in a family never drift apart. I sometimes wonder that there are
some lucky people who are the part of such type of families. ... Show more content on

Chinese Americans And Filipino Americans
With all the discord going on around the word today, it is quite easy for us to forget that at the
end of the day, we are very much similar to each other. When we hear of the Chinese Americans
and Filipino Americans living in America today, not often do we see a connection between the
two except for the fact that they come from Asia or have descendants from Asia. If we dive
deeper into history, we will see that when the Chinese and the Filipinos first came to America, they
had very similar purposes and goals in mind; one of them being make money and go back home.
They were both determined to work hard for a country quite foreign to them but both were also
targeted as the other side and a majority of them suffered from ill treatments like assault and blatant
discrimination.
Before the Chinese began to immigrate to America, China had previously lived in isolation from
the rest of the world for a while after Zheng He s voyages in the 15th century allowed the Chinese
to receive confirmation that they were much more advanced than any other group at that time.
However, China still participated in the Manila Galleon Trade with Mexico until the 1800s in
which Chinese goods such as silk, ivory and porcelain were exchanged for silver. In the late 1700s
the first ship from the United States with the name Empress of China sailed for China with
intentions to start a trade relationship between the two countries. The trip proved to be successful
and led to investors being encouraged to

Subtle Bias Against Arab Americans Job Applicants Essay
Subtle Bias Against Perceived Arab Americans Job Applicants in Personnel Decision
The terrorist attack of 9/11 is one of the most devastating tragedies in the history of U.S. On one
hand, it filled American s heart with an invariable amount of terror, but at the same time Arab
Americans and Muslims were prejudicially challenged and discriminated at economic, social, and
educational level. Therefore, this paper will specifically analyze how one s religious preference
significantly impacts on his or her job selection. Up to a certain extent, America is a racially
prejudiced country but that is just not limited to Arab American society. It includes Blacks,
Italians, and Chinese with the addition of those who in near future will join this melting pot. The
aim of this paper is to analyze the substantive influence of one s social identity, given shape by
racial and religious factors, on his or her candidacy within a professional milieu.
Concerning the issue of prejudice against Arab Americans, few researches have been done. It is
surprising seeing as little attention has been paid to this ethno religious group whose population
rate has tremendously increased after 9/11. However, one study by Park, Felix, and Lee (2007) do
give us an idea of how prejudice is expressed, implicitly or explicitly, against Muslim people. In
their study, they found that discrimination against Arab Muslims is never shown in an explicit way
but rather in a subtle way. They used an Implicit Association

Sociological Perspectives and Theories Essay
Sociological Perspectives and Theories
Sociologists try to explain how society orders itself but there are many different theories for this,
which often conflict with one another. Some of these classic theories include Marxism,
Functionalism, and Interactionism. There are also more modern or contemporary theories such as
Feminism. Each sociological perspective has different beliefs.
Marxists are concerned with the distribution of economic power and wealth. They believe that
society is in conflict between two classes. Those classes are the Bourgeoisie; who own the means
of production, i.e. land and the Proletariat; who sell labour to these owners for wages. The

College help teach people so they can gain desired qualifications which will allow them to go out
and work in society. Without people being taught professions society would break down because
there would be nobody to do certain jobs.
Another classic view is Interactionism. We can liken Interactionism to a play; everyone must play
their respective roles in order to create a successful performance in society everyone must do their
jobs in order to create a successful society. This approach is much like the functionalism viewpoint.
It argues that action is meaningful to those involved and that they interpret the meaning. They
also argue that how others see us affects the way we act and how we see ourselves because our
actions are based on self concept. This is otherwise known as The Looking Glass Self a phrase that
was coined by Charles Cooley (1864 1929) and his theory backs up the ideas of Interactionism.
In a very large and interesting class of cases the social reference takes the form of a somewhat
definite imagination of how one s self that is any idea he appropriates appears in a particular
mind, and the kind of self feeling one has is determined by the attitude toward this attributed to that
other mind. A social self of this sort might be called the reflected or looking glass self:

What issue or issues did this person address in his or her work?
Give specific examples of the methods this person used to make changes articles or books written,
political actions taken, innovations made, etc.
What reforms or changes took place as a result of the individual?
Jane Addams was one of the first people in America who sought to improve the lives of these
desperate poor. In Chicago she founded a settlement house (community center) called Hull House.
Her work toward social improvements in Chicago, coupled with the work of other reformers,
marked the beginning of the Progressive movement in America. Reaching its height in the early
twentieth century, this movement sought to overcome the often dehumanizing effects of rapid
industrialization through a variety of political, economic, and social reforms. Later in her life,
Addams focused her energies on international problems, becoming a dedicated leader in the peace
movement.
Addams was born in Cedarville, Illinois, only seven months before the start of the Civil War. Her
mother died when she was two years old, and Addams was raised by her father, John Huy
Addams. A successful businessman and politician, John Addams helped build Cedarville into a
thriving community. He passed on to his daughter his belief in the ideals of hard work,
achievement, democracy, and equality. He also imparted to Jane a high moral sense of
responsibility and purpose, traits of his Quaker

  • 3. Questions on Terrorist Activities Why is there heavier activity in certain areas of the world? Chemical, nuclear, and biological warfare are now becoming more profound as technology develops. As technology becomes more ubiquitous across nations, the likelihood of attack becomes more eminent. This is particularly true of Iran who has been explicit in their desire to destroy the civilized world. As this nation becomes better equipped to attack the United States, the need for intervention becomes more profound. Terrorism, as indicated by there attack targets, is predicated on fear. The concept of fear is what drives the profound of often impactful nature of terrorism. In certain areas of the world, particularly those with high regard for freedom make ideal terrorist targets. The terrorists, through their actions intend to create a pervasive culture of fear within their target areas. Concepts of freedom, democracy, and prosperity are often polar opposites of terrorists. They instead, often intend to enslave, restrict freedom, or impose their own beliefs on others through fear. Areas of the world that are against these concepts are often targets for terrorist activity. America, Europe, and Middle Eastern countries seeking freedom or challenging the status quo are therefore likely targets. Figure 1 in the appendix presents are very short list of prominent terrorist attacks in recent history. A quick glance at the list reveals that a vast majority of the target areas are in the countries I mentioned above: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is The Main Idea Of Civil Disobedience The world is full of people who put their self interests first, making the world evil and unjust. Henry David Thoreau made a speech in 1848 about the government, its injustices, and Theroux response to each. This speech and latter essay would commonly be known as civil disobedience. Here, we find everybody living and making rules for their own interest, participating in many evil activities, and encouraging the rule of injustice. However, we can also find some a few people, like Thoreau, trying to resist this race in order to stop evil practices and rules. In the essay Civil DisobedienceThoreau tries to make people, citizens, aware by drawing attention towards the injustices of American government. He divides the essay into three parts;... This paragraph will contain the interesting view point of Thoreau where he says people should do what is right first, not to go by the laws. Will also describe how the laws are made these days (laws made in the pressure of self interested people) with some examples. Will describe the situation of solders, how they are put in a shadow of injustice rules and given the illusion tag of great heroes (if they don t follow the orders given by their commander blindly, they will be kicked out of the list of great heroes). Main Point 3 (going against injustices is not a crime, it is the medium to change the mentality of people and government). This paragraph will give several American historical evidence and example showing the example of injustice and how people overcame those injustice going against those injustice. • 5. Oedipus Opening Statement Opening Statement: Oedipus s blindness, dethroning and his family s devastating end are all credited to his flawed character and his error in judgment. He s foolish for thinking he could tempt fate, he s vane for thinking he can change fate and he s blind for not realizing what fate had in store for him. His foolishness, vanity and blindness resulted in his own tragic downfall. Evidence: On his quest for the murderer of Lauis, people are reluctant to speak, telling Oedipus the past is better left alone. Upon speaking with Tiresias, Oedipus is warned not to pry into theses matters and let Tiresias leave with his burden of the truth: Let me go home; So shalt thou bear thy load most easily If thou wilt take my counsel and I mine. But Oedipus ironically mocks the prophets loss of sight, causing the prophet to lash out explaining, And since you have reproached me with my blindness, I say you have your sight, and do not see what evils are about you, nor with whom, nor in what home you are dwelling. Do you know from whom you are? Yea, you are ignorant that to your own you are an enemy, whether on earth, alive, or under it (15). • 6. Essay On Sleep Apnea One of the most common types of sleep disorders that a person may suffer from is sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is when a person suffers from uncontrolled stops in breathing. People with this disorder usually stop breathing while asleep. This disorder is caused from blockage in the airway. When a person is asleep, the airway may become tight because the muscles that keep it open are relaxed. One form of sleep apneais obstructive sleep apnea. In obstructive sleep apnea, blockage in the airway may be caused from clotted tissue or fat. Snoring can be caused from any air that gets through the blockage. When the snoring is stopped and the airway is completely blocked, a person may stop breathing for about ten to twenty seconds or until the brain recognizes the apnea. A less common form of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Daytime sleepiness is considered to be the most common symptom that a person with sleep apnea suffers from. Although a person is not aware of the problem that they have, they are aware of the symptoms because the sleep that they are getting is not good quality sleep. As a result of the symptoms they are having, the person with sleep apnea will experience a full day of feeling tired (Davis w.p.). In order to treat sleep apnea, a sleep test called a polysomnography is performed on the patient. According to Dr. Vince Berger, This test records the patient s brain waves, heartbeat, and breathing during an entire night. Treatments are available to patients who are diagnosed with sleep apnea. Some cases of sleep apnea can be treated by advising the patient to lose weight and to stop sleeping on his or her back. More extreme cases of sleep apnea may require the patient to have surgery in order to fix the blockage that prevents a person from breathing. The most common type of treatment that is recommended is a specialized device called a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also too see what solutions will cause the gummy bear to be isotonic, hypotonic, or hypertonic. This will benefit people that may eat a lot of gummy bears along with drinking sodas and juices, or water this may cause you to become more dehydrated. This will help people who like to eat gummy bears but don t know what s best to drink with them. Hypothesis: I think that the gummy bear in the water solution will grow the most. The gatoraid will grow the least because it has the most sugar. And the orange Switch will be in the middle. Materials: Scale, tray, tweezers, spoon, gatoraid, water, switch orange tangerine,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results of this lab shows how osmosis, diffusion, hypertonic, and hypotonic solutions. One way the gummy bear shows osmosis in gummy bears is how the gummy bear in the water solution grew the most. This gummy bear grew the most because the solution had a higher concentration, this in turn caused the solution to begin equalizing the concentration on each side of a membrane. The lab also shows how the semi permeable membrane works; it allows only certain molecules to pass through it, while others aren t allowed through it. The lab shows this because according to my results the semi permeable membrane in the gummy bear allowed more water molecules to pass through it, while the semi permeable membrane didn t let other solution molecules resulting in the water to have more weight while the other two solutions grew less in weight. The lab also demonstrates that the solutions with more sugar will gain less in weight. This is because the solution already has a higher concentration inside it, so less of the solution will go inside the gummy bear. According to my results the water is a hypotonic solution, while the Orange Switch and Gatoraid would also be a hypotonic solution due to the fact that all he gummy bears gained mass. If it were to be a isotonic solution the gummy bear would need to stay the same mass. If any of the solution would be a hypertonic solution the gummy bear would to shrink in ... Objects such as eggs sink in liquids when their denser is greater than the liquid their in. It helps keep less denser materials floating. Density means the degree of compactness of a substance. I will be using EB eggs in my project. EB eggs are also known as England s Best. Since we will be using eggs in my experiment, thatВґs what s we are going to be talking about. The outer layer of a egg is called a shell. Eggs have lots of protein, vitamins, minerals, good fats, and a lot of trace nutrients. Shells have about 7,000 tiny pores in them. • 9. Andrew Jackson s Characterization Of The Age Of Jackson Andrew Jackson first had a military career that evolved into a political career in the Age of Jackson. The Age of Jackson is an accurate characterization of the era between 1815 and 1845, because Jackson dominated the political sphere in the US. He was the dominant political figure that was almost as influential and as representative as Martin Van Buren. Van Buren was the only politician that could challenge Andrew Jacksonin politics, because Jackson s characterization embodied the views held in the first 40 years of the early 1800s. Does that seem an apt characterization? Jackson maintained his image as a dominant figure as president from 1828 to 1837 when he fought for southerners as he garnered the attention of Whigs to preserve the Union. Jackson is regarded as a national hero that excelled in military and politics. Examples of this accurate characterization are his title as the Indian Fighter and his actions as President of the United States. In The Battle of New Orleans and Seminole Wars. His actions, while extremely xenophobic and racist, were revered by the general public, but he is still seen as a national historical figure. He had a decisive victory over the British in the Battle of New Orleans when he prevented the British from taking the Louisiana Purchase despite being outnumbered by around 10,000 troops. He was an astute militarily strategist that anticipated and fended off British at the Siege of Fort St. Philip in a critical point of the Battle of New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Notice To Defendant Summary Johnson further contends that the circuit court abused its discretion by failing to exclude the Notice to Defendant and the OPD Form because the documents probative value was substantially outweighed by the danger of unfair prejudice. Specifically, Johnson asserts that the documents should have been excluded because they indicate that he had a pending criminal case, and that they indicate that he is indigent. The State, for its part, asserts that the documents were critical to establish that the contraband at issue here belonged to Johnson, and that any prejudice may have suffered did not substantially outweigh the evidence s probative value. We agree with the State. Although a judge has no discretion to admit irrelevant evidence, a judge does have considerable discretion to exclude evidence if its probative value is substantially outweighed by the danger of unfair prejudice, confusion of the issues, or misleading the jury, or by considerations of undue delay, waste of time, or needless presentation of cumulative evidence. • 11. The Cost Of The Asset Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable). Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. For an item to be considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business and not for resale. Useful life should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from one view point to another. Estimated useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to contribute to usefulness to a company. Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception of land, all assets are ... Without words it can break a strong man into tears, reduce a brave woman to terror, and turn the most high strung to a state of peace. Unfortunately, the worth of music in today s society tends to be decided by its perceived popularity, rather than its use of technique and emotion. This is one of the many reasons Richard Wagnertends to be underappreciated. Despite his masterful compositions and development of many imperative techniques, much of his music is listened to by few and appreciated by fewer. However, that does not diminish any of what he has done for the world of music, and the Romantic Era. Richard Wagner is the most influential composer of the Romantic Era for his use of leitmotiv, command of the orchestra, emotional expression in music, and contribution to the romantic notion of nationalism. Applying encaustic process, which is known as a hot wax painting, Jasper John created this screen print with wax crayon on collaged cotton and linen. Jasper John describes this piece as a series of images that ran through his mindwhile he was lying in the bathtub. He included items he saw around the room and things he was thinking about. Although some of these stories were fabricated to serve as British propaganda, they served their purpose of instigating a strong anti German sentiment. The protection of its economic interests was also a major factor which influenced the decision for America to participate in World War 1. American businessmen such as J.P. This led to the fear that incase Central Powers (Germany, Bulgaria, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire) emerged victorious, the Allies (France, Britain and Italy) would be unable to repay these debts.
