What Is Lucretius Argument Against Religion
Lucretius, a Roman philosopher, was greatly inspired by the teachings of Epicurus. In Lucretius s
book, On the Nature of Things, he expands on many Epicurean principles and at times even alters
them. Nothing comes from nothing , the first principle that Lucretius endorses, is essential to his
argument for the origin of the world. Using this principle, Lucretius against the accepted Roman
religion by adding the concept that divine intervention is not the root of creation, instead he gives
credit to atoms. These atoms, or beginnings of things, he reasoned, came together to form masses
called bodies. The earth was one such body, and it yielded many bodies within it. This entire
process, governed by nature, is what Lucretius believes created the world and everything in it.
However, Lucretius falls short in his argument against religion by indirectly asserting that nature is
in fact a God. Although Lucretius explicitly states in Book 5 of On the Nature of Things, that the
true being behind the world s beginning, Mother Nature, is not a divine being, the characteristics he
assigns her prove otherwise.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, he passionately asserts that the earth herself and Nature [is] the artificer of things .
(Lucretius 5. 243 244). Explaining his theory, he articulates that atoms, an integral part of nature,
operate under circumstances in which they swerve a little (2. 219) causing collisions. These
collisions led to the formation of things, both animate and inanimate. In other words, these atoms
successfully created the earth and all the creatures living upon it. In essence, rather than deny the
creation of the world by an unknown force or even by chance, Lucretius simply substitutes the role
of the Roman gods with Nature. Nature, thus, well deserves the name of mother , well deserves the
title creator, and well deserves the title

The Gram negative bacterium for Unknown 13B was Salmonella typhimurium. Unknown 13B had
similar reactivity patterns to S. typhimurium. A comparison of Unknown 13B and S. typhimurium
can be compared in Table 2. The Catalase test and the Methyl Red test for Unknown 13B and S.

Indole test for Unknown 13B and S. typhimurium (Table 2). For the Lactose Ferment and the
Sucrose Ferment test, negative reactions occurred and no gas bubble was produced in the
Unknown 13B and in S. typhimurium (Table 2). The Glucose Ferment test produced positive

Once the results were obtained by the different biochemical tests, the genus and species of the
organism was identified as Salmonella typhimurium. These tests were chosen because these tests
are frequently used to determine Gram negative bacteria. During the Citrate test, S. typhimurium
produced a positive result, which indicated sodium carbonate was present (Pearson s 2011). A
positive result was obtained during the Methyl Red test, which indicated that the organism was
capable of fermenting glucose and contained a higher hydrogen ion concentration (Pearson s 2011).
S. typhimurium produced negative results during the Indole test, which showed that tryptophan
was unable to be hydrolyzed (Pearson s 2011). The Lactose and Sucrose Ferment tests both
produced negative results and no production of gas, indicating that there was no change in the pH
and fermentation did not occur (Pearson s 2011). Positive results and a gas bubble was present in
the Glucose Ferment test, which concluded that S. typhimurium caused an acidic change in the pH
and fermentation occurred (Pearson s 2011). S. typhimurium produced positive results for the
Nitrate Reduction test, indicating that nitrates were not reduced to nitrates by the bacterium

typhimurium was unable to produce urease (Pearson s 2011). The

Reflective Essay On Mental Illness
Faced with the overwhelming stigma that surrounds mental illness, we have spent the semester
learning how to break down doorways into the lives of characters who have struggled with their
mental health. Far too often have these doors been kept bolted shut. As a consequence of public
fear and lack of understanding, the people behind these doors individuals with mental illnesses have
been given no choice but to strugglein silence. In reading various works throughout the semester,
we have been able to begin to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Trying to gain
understanding, we have not only opened doorways, but we have begun to construct empathic
tunnels between our own lives and the unfamiliar universes of characters with mental illness.
Reading the novels throughout this class sometimes made me uncomfortable, usually hurt my
heart, and always made me ask questions and I think that s the whole point. The novels we read
gave voices to people who felt like they did not have a voice, because they had been silenced for
so long. Refracted through various time periods and genres, the novels we read provided insight
into the progression of mental illness throughout decades, namely into how mental illness is
regarded by the public. Maybe we don t treat people exactly like how the unnamed narrator in The
Yellow Wallpaper was treated anymore, and maybe we have a better understanding of mental
illness now than we did during Edna St. Vincent Millay s time,

Cultural Values In South Africa
Introduction
As you all know we will be in South Africa for three years on business. This power point is going
to go through how our cultural values here in the United States differ from those in South Africa.
Diversity is the one word that describes South Africa best
Diversity seeps throughout the whole country, from the rich to the poor, from the flora to the fauna,
and from the dense forests to the dry deserts.
Who wouldn t want to spend three years in a country that values diversity in everything they do.

Hofstede s Values
South Africa s Values
Last Minute quote
Hofstede s Values
Hofstede s cultural dimensions theory is a framework for cross cultural communication, developed
by Geert Hofstede.
It describes the effects of a society s culture on the values of its members, and how these values
relate to behavior.
The values are power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism and collectivism masculinity
/ feminity and long term orientation.
Power Distance
Power Distance is defined as the extent to which the less powerful members of institutions and
organizations within a country expect and accept that power is distributed unequally.
South Africa has a score of 49 putting them in the middle
Basically everybody has a place and knows the order of power and doesn t question it
Whereas the US has a score of 40 making them have a low power distance
They are going to be similar to South Africa however their power lines are more blurred than

Cultural Competence And Health Care Workers Get The Same...
Article Review Brittany Loy Nebraska Methodist College Miscommunication, medication errors,
and lack of compliance commonly occur in the healthcare field. These are just a few of the errors
that occur due to the patient being from a different culture than the physician or healthcare worker.
Those three errors alone have a huge impact on our healthcare today. If we could have a better
understanding of other cultures that are different from our own we could have a dramatic decrease
in errors and a great increase in healthcare participation. Training must be completed and must be
done in more than one way. The first step is to make sure that all physicians and health care
workers get the same nationwide training that focuses on improving cultural competence. How this
is completed must be done in more than one way (Horwitz, 2001). The goal in fixing/decreasing
this issue is to make sure the team has cultural competence. Cultural competence in healthcare has
been operationalized as the ability to provide high quality care for patients with diverse values,
beliefs, and behaviors, including the customization of service delivery and administration to meet
the patients social and cultural needs (Anderson, 2003). Up until recently, medical schools did not
fit this concept into its teaching, which is an issue for doctors who are older, as they were not
taught the importance of this. It s very important to fix this situation, errors, and assumptions about

The Cognitive Dissonance Theory ( Cdt ) Essay
Introduction
This paper applies the principles of the cognitive dissonance theory (CDT) to the potential racial
motivations of homegrown terrorists. Generally, the CDT rests on the premise that in a situation
where one is faced with conflicting attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors, there is a need to restore
harmony, with his or her pre existing thoughts and ideas. In addition, this need for harmony can
give rise to irrational and sometimes maladaptive behaviors in order to reinstate that balance
(Mcleod, 2014). From the perspective of this analysis, it seems appropriate to apply the CDT to the
potential racial motivations of Americans that self radicalize as one can easily be influenced to
change their perception of terrorism after consistently being the target of attacks against their race.
Determining the motivation may help prevent future Americans from self radicalizing and prevent
future homegrown terrorist attacks. With the CDT used to research and analyze motivations of
homegrown terrorist attacks. The Cognitive Dissonance Theory (CDT)
As people, we often presume that the actions displayed by a person are piloted through their
individual thoughts and opinions, however, the cognitive dissonance theory (CDT) shows that this
is not always the case. Labeled by some as an action opinion theory, the theory of cognitive
dissonance explains how people are compelled to commit actions contrary to their beliefs. The basic
principle behind action opinion theories is that these

For long term goals you don t need to be as specific right now, but you should list them and under

them. With the long term goals always think big. Another good exercise for long term goals is to

The Constitution as an Artifact
Abstract
This paper is an analysis of the single cultural artifact that best represents the culture in which I
live in today. The paper will provide a detailed analysis of the artifact and how it relates to the
values and beliefs of the culture. Additionally, it will address the deep cultural roots of the artifact,
the historical roots of the artifact, what allowed it to come into being and who was affected by its
development. This information will come as someone trained from the humanities.
There are many great artifacts that represent the culture we re currently residing in. However, as an
American and someone trained in the humanities, I believe there is no better example of this than
the actual Constitution of the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, the framers wrapped their heads around the notion that every man is created equal and
should have the same chances to excel as everyone else (Williamsburg Foundation, 2005). The
constitutional creators also believed in limited government, as large government hindered the rights
of the people and thus stifled innovation. The roots of the constitution come from a largely
pragmatic and realist base who wished to ensure that people in the future could modify the
constitution as necessary. However, they would have to go through quite a bit of red tape to do it.
This would ensure nobody s rights were trampled and that everyone agreed on the change. It was a
brilliant idea. Very few documents have ever lasted through the test of time such as the United
States Constitution (Williamsburg Foundation, 2005). I envision the United States Constitution
standing through the next few generations. However, currently it s under attack by the ever
growing socialist movement. The idea that government should control resources and people aren t
smart enough to do it themselves (Phyllis Shayfay report, 2009) is a tenet of the extreme left
movement. The big brother state is consistently assaulting the constitution; basing their beliefs on
the fact they believe

Cultural Context Part B
To study the cultural context of Sive and Children of Men means to examine the world of each
and the values and attitude of the people in these worlds. The worlds created in Sive and Children
of Men are very distinct but also have many parallels. Both texts explore the concepts of family,
love, fear and control.
The setting of each text was paramount in informing me about the attitudes and values of that
time. Each text depicts an oppressive and controlled society. Children of Men is set in the year
2027, in the future, which contrasts to Sive which is set in the 1950 s, in the past. Children of

bribed Theo learns something which gives him hope and drives him on. Kee the lady he is
protecting is pregnant with the first baby in 18 years, your baby is the miracle the world has
been waiting for . This displays Theo s newfound hope; it is this hope that gives him purpose.
Similarly Sive also receives a reason to hope which also gives her purpose. Liam Scuab and Sive

rebel against the match. Sive, I love you are the words that give Sive purpose to rebel against
society. Both Alfonso Cuaron and John B. Keane have created situations for the protagonists where
they are forced to rebel in order to get what they believe in.
Both texts explore the ideas of love and marriage. In Children of Men Theo was married to
Julian and they had a son called Dylan. However baby Dylan died and their grief drove them apart

History On The Origin Of State Charters Essay
Brief History on the Origin of State Charters in California
California has followed the steps of many American states by committing its efforts on ensuring
educational developments through improved governance systems. In the last half a decade or so,
there have emerged diverse levels of studies in California State majorly because of three reasons
which include several legislative practices, institutions, and participation of state agencies. The
California Educational Commission was created as early as 1899 with a number of 70 members to
study the state s educational program with an effort of improving it. Of much interest was the
recommendation that legislation had to be twisted to form a uniform board for the governing of
normal colleges and universities in California. This issue resulted in the formulation of a law that
placed the normal colleges and universities in California under the State Board of Education.
A legislation in the year 1992 found it necessary to have schools and authorized their creation.
The legislation also came up with requirements for appeal signature and as a result a county
appeals process was created and whose charter renewal came after every five years. The legislation
also made clear the grounds for which the charters could be considered null and void. The
flexibility of the legislation allowed there to be an amendment in 1998, which brought about a
change in the requirements for petition signature and gave the mandate of revoking any charter to

Results were recorded after every five minute interval up to twenty minutes. For 0g and 2g of
sodium bicarbonate dissolved in water, there were zero leaf chads floating. However, in the
solution containing 1g of sodium bicarbonate, there were 2 leaves floating after 5 minutes, 4
leaves floating after 10 and 15 minutes, and the remaining leaf adding up to a total of five leaves
floated after 20 minutes. There is a trend in the table for 1g of sodiumbicarbonate due to the
increase in leaves floating.
The results from the lab was plotted on a scatterplot, which contains a trend line. For the points
describing the results of 0g and 1g of sodium bicarbon, the points remained at 0. The points for 1g
of sodium bicarbonate increased, and the slope of the trend line is 0.24x. This means 0.24 leaves

work with the standard reports to resolve these issues with the work force we have available to

using the data contained within CWData, and this allowed us to respond to these issues in an
efficient and cost effective manner. Leveraging CWData s unique functionality to extract only
new and changed data to the CWData database, Trilling created a Lotus Notes application that
accesses the CWData database to find all the orders that have gone on hold. Once the orders are

To be gullible means to live a life of trickery and doubt. An innocent appearance may be
treacherous in disguise, deceiving the trusting eye of the naive. A foolish person opens the pathway
only to betrayal, and eventually death. In William Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Julius
Caesar, Brutus s tragic flaw of naivety is what steers him to his demise. He is recognized as the
tragic hero through his misreadings, fabricated by Cassius, persuading him to side with the
conspirators. Furthermore, attempting to justify his rationalizations encourage him into murdering
Caesar, while both inside and outside forces influence his actions in the conspiracy. Cassius hatches

The Status And Perception Of Women
Literature Review Draft 2
For centuries, the status and perception of women has been a disputed and controversial subject.
Due to precarious political or social standings, even women in power were subject to the judgement
and power of men. When considering the portrayal of exceptional women throughout history, rarely
has a woman been able to fully embrace the stage without reservations. An analysis of research texts
and journal articles reveals and connects the way that a queen of ancient times and one of the
English Renaissance controlled their image, were affected by societal views of women, and were
ultimately depicted. Scholarship on Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth I relays the idea that society
and patriarchy led to their respective authorities and depictions. Mary Hamer, author of Signs of
Cleopatra, a historical research text, investigates Cleopatra s cultural significance from her earliest
representations in her own time to her status as a symbol in modern times. In the chapter,
Cleopatra: housewife, she discusses Cleopatra s image between the fourteenth and seventeenth
centuries, a time that spans the invention of the printing press and the proliferance of Elizabethan
playwright, William Shakespeare. Hamer uses the work of Petrarch, Boccaccio, and Jan de Bray,
which was spread rapidly due to the printing press, as a lens to view Cleopatra s image. In regards
to this image, she notes the changing attitude towards women, a result of the Reformation creating

The Effect Of Temperature On The Ph Of Orange Juice
My question is Does the temperature of a substance effect it s ph?. I will be testing this by using
ph indicator strips that change color when it comes in contact with an acid or a base and
comparing it with a color chart. The substances I will be using are vinegar, orange juice , and
lemon juice. These can all be found at a local grocery store. The phpaper and color chart can be
found at Walmart. Besides my experiment there have been other experiments that have tested
temperatures effect on ph. They also wanted to know whether temperature affects the ph. I found
an experiment online called Effect of Temperature on the pH of orange juice done by students
from Nease High School. Unlike my project, they only tested Orange Juice. They used 5
different temperatures, and the result was that the temperature had no effect. Another
experiment I found online called Does storage temperature affect the ph of Orange Juice by
Anna Elizondo also only used Orange Juice. Her results were that the juice was more acidic at a
hot temperature. The last experiment i found was on the lines of my experiment, but was more
about my hypothesis. It was called Does Storage Temperature Affect Orange Juice s Acidity? .
Like the other experiments, this one only used Orange Juice. They used ph paper to measure the
acidity at 40 degrees 50 degrees over the span of 2 days. Their conclusion was that the ph was still
the same. I will be using cold cups of vinegar, orange juice,

Cut Of Steak
Cut of Steak People believe that extroverts and introverts are like a cut of steak. People like to
believe that the steak they ordered is very clean and clearly cut; people also consider introverts
and extroverts to have clean cut attributes. Like many, people will believe that introverts do not
enjoy people and only appreciate time with themselves. Also, many people will place extroverts in
a group of loud mouths, people who just want to have an enjoyable time and may not be the most
astute. Although people believe that the qualities of introverts and extroverts are clear cut, there is
more to introverts and extroverts than may meet the eye. After conducting research on introverts
and extroverts a reader gains a much more substantial knowledge of what an introvert and an
extrovert really is and why. For a long time and still today many people believe... Show more

when in fact extroverts just make friends easier also when they make friends and when they induce
small talk their brain will shoot them doses of dopamine (Granneman, 4). People also believe that
introverts only like to be with themselves. When in reality introverts need time to be with
themselves to refuel from social gathering because socializing is more effortful and tiring for
introverts than extroverts (Granneman, 5). There is also a little science behind why introverts and
extroverts act the way they do is because their brains use different neurotransmitters while
extroverts receive dopamine from doing outwardly attributes introverts receive acetylcholine when

Polymer Weight Averages And Molecular Distribution
Part:C A 1: Polymer weight averages and molecular distribution: There are two types of
molecular averages from which we can , the number average and weight average, which can we
calculate by knowing the number of molecules and that weight fractions in the polymer. If we
are given numbers of molecules with their molecular weights. Then we can calculate number
average molecular weight (Mn) and weight average molecular weight (Mw). From that, we can
get polydispersity index and know it is monodispersed or not. Suppose, we are given number of
molecules (Ni) and molecular weight of those molecules (Mi), Number average molecular
weight Weight average molecular weight Polydispersity index (PDI) = If PDI = 1 then mixture
is homogeneous And if PDI 1 then mixture is heterogeneous We can draw molecular weight
distribution by taking the molecular weight (M) on the X axis and Number of molecules (N) on
Y axis or vice versa. Figure (1) is the molecular weight distribution. Cross linking in polymer:
When two or more molecular chains chemically react with each other and make covalent bonds
between them which are called cross linking. It makes polymers high dense. Cross linking
decreases free volume, so it is difficult for molecular chains to spread out which makes its Tg range
broadened compared to amorphous polymers. Cross linking prevents the polymer from melting and
strengthens rigidity of polymers and provides high tensile strength. Figure (2) shows the contrast

The Sane Man In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan Poe
In the opening paragraph of Edgar Allan Poe s short story The Black Cat he assures the reader
first and foremost that he is a sane man insisting that he is not mad, however this is not something
that a so called sane man should have to emphasis. He instead however gives leeway into the
madness that he gets driven into through his own external and internal demons surrounding him.
We know that from a young age the narrator has a great deal of passion for animals spending most
of his childhood years caring for them and them alone. This tells us that as a child our narrator didn
t have much social companionship from other human beings but instead sought refuge in his animal
friends. The time in our lives when we are our most innocent is when... Show more content on

The fury of a demon instantly possessed me. I knew myself no longer. My original soul seemed,
at once, to take its flight from my body; and a more than fiendish malevolence, gin nurtured,
thrilled every fibre of my frame (Poe 2522). Using a pen knife from his pocket he takes out the
eye of his beloved Pluto this will become relevant later on. It is from this point on our narrator no
longer has his sense of docility and tender heartedness, eventually all his sense of remorse and
humility turn into what he calls Perverseness (Poe 2522). For a person to be perverse they no
longer care about the sense of what is right and wrong, they seek to do only what is contrary to
right or good behaviours. It is with his new sense of perverseness that our narrator says Who has

Analysis Of Falling In Reverse By Ronnie Radke
Musicians often use their music as a way of expressing their emotions and thoughts to others in
an entertaining way that is appealing to others. One band that does this is Falling in Reverse,
which is led by the lead singer Ronnie Radke. Radke had a difficult childhood being raised by
his single father after his mother left. This incident has severely affected him, which is revealed
in many songs why he became a drug addict and he is still getting over it today. That occurrence
altered the way he looked at society eventually giving him a pessimistic world view. Radke uses
his music to talk about how he views society around him, and how he feels like humans have
become overly violent and shut off from one another. That theme and overall message of societal
hardships and mistakes humans keep making is clearly talked about in his song, Wait and See.
The song whole heartedly embraces Radke s world views as he tries to show his listeners the
mess the world has become, and how they have gotten themselves into their predicament. Radke
conveys his thoughts through the use of numerous literary devices to create a meaningful and
enjoyable song to try and spread his concerns to all. Music is a universal way in which people
connect, and it does this through its use of literary devices to make the songs meaningful while still
appealing. The song, Wait and See, uses literary devices like similes and metaphors to contribute to
the theme of society s mistakes and their impacts on the

Stem Cell Controversy
Stem Cell Controversy
Stem cells were first isolated and cultured in November of 1998 and have been surrounded with
much debate and controversy since day one. Although the ethical debates have been mostly static
and have closely mimicked the ethical debates over abortion, the political determinations
concerning federal funding of stem cell research have gone through numerous evolutions in the
years since the first hESCs were isolated and cultured (Saltzberg 505). Research is currently being
conducted on stem cells, but only with private funds. The federal government has a ban on funding
embryonic stem cell research because of the controversial issue of using embryos and fetuses.

There would be no chance for tissue rejection and no drugs would be needed to correct any
problems regarding rejection. In preliminary tests conducted by Geron, a pharmaceutical company,
stem cells slip by the human immune system unharmed. However, scientists have been unable to
find multipotent stem cells in all tissues in the body. Therefore, the only way to obtain certain cells
would be to use pluripotent stem cells, which are found in embryos and fetal tissue.
This is where much controversy comes into play with stem cells. Much research is needed and
this will only happen if federal funds are used to conduct research on stem cells. In August of
2001, President Bush made a speech regarding stem cell research. In this speech he said, Based
on preliminary work that has been privately funded, scientists believe further research using stem
cells offers great promise that could help improve the lives of those who suffer from many
terrible diseases (Ruse 10). In the end, Bush said he would allow for federal funds to be used on
stem cell research, but there was a catch.
As a result of private research, more than sixty genetically diverse stem cell lines already exist.
They were created from embryos that have already been destroyed, and they have the ability to
regenerate themselves indefinitely, creating ongoing opportunities for research. I have concluded

Ethical Failures Of A Professional Work Environment
Jerry Mason, senior vice president and general manager at Morton Thiokol, and Morton Thiokol
were on the brink of negotiating the booster rocket contract renewal with NASA. Although, it is
not an acceptable reason, we could see how engineers and others below the authority of Jerry could
be afraid to state something contrary to what he stood by. When someone s self interest and pride
gets in the way of engineering, it can neglect the welfare of the public, and cause them harm. This
case study highlights many irresponsible, and ethical failures in a professional work environment.
Jerry Mason failed to abide by the following impediments for responsible action; self interest,
ignorance, and group thinking. Ethicsshould always be the base of any engineering project. There
are some instances where people, like Jerry Mason, become self interested and forget that at the
core of engineering, lies the responsibility to act with the public s welfare in mind, above all else.
The Challenger incident shows us how Jerry Mason acts contrary to the standards that the public
expects professionals engineers to stand by. His sole comment to Bob Lund, to take off your
engineering hat and put on your management hat, speaks greatly about what the Challenger meant
to him. Jerry Mason viewed the launch as a business transaction that would allow him and Morton
Thiokol to benefit greatly at the midst of a contract renewal. Success brings advancement in

Pierre Simon Laplace s Theory Of Determinism
Pierre Simon Laplace was a famous scientist born on March 23, 1749, in Normandy, France. He
went through schooling and later enrolled at Caen University at the age of sixteen to study
theology. His father had an expectation for him to have a career in the church, in those times
when people attended the school Laplace attended, their usual job destinations were the church or
army. Laplace went into neither of those, even those he was studying theology. While at the
school he discovered his love for mathematics and discovered he had a talent in that field.
Laplace made numerous contributions through his work. Besides his work on mathematical
astronomy, he also studied planetary orbits. Laplace is famous for his discovery of what is
famously known as Laplace s Demon, which is not an actual demon. Laplace s Demon was first
known as Laplace s Intellect. His thought experiment was first discovered by him in 1814, which
made it the first published work of determinism. Laplace s Demon, is basically the idea of
determinism. His other works, although should still not go unnoticed, he had a great influence on
the progress of the mathematical theory of mechanics, also the Laplace Operator in potential theory,
and the Laplace Transform in the study of differential equations. Laplace believed that with his
discovery, you could measure an atoms velocity and location. Basically, what it means for his
experiment is that if you can calculate those things, you can predict all future

Comparison of How Spain, France, Britian, and America...
In this essay, I will compare and contrast how Spain, France, England, and America viewed and
interacted with Native peoples differently as they colonized North America. It is reported that
roughly three hundred and fifty thousand Native Americans called the area known today as
Florida home, when Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon landed his fleet of ships on the coast in the
early 1500 s. As we have discussed and learned when the Native people were colonized by
outsiders it was not a great day. The Natives of Florida were not immune; war, slavery, disease,
and extremely low child birth rates took a devastating toll on the Florida tribes. A charter
penned by Ponce de Leon, known as the encomienda, granted Spain the ability to enslave the
Natives of Florida. Forcing them to work in the crop fields and essentially making them the
major labor force; constructing and designing the buildings occupied by the Spanish. The
oppression did not end there. Around the middle of the 16th century the Native people were
declared to be free, but only on paper. The Spanish royals felt that the Natives needed to educated
in the ways of Catholicism, and those that did not want to conform could be punished up to and
including death. Life was not easy for the Spaniards who tried to live in Florida. It was in fact,
very difficult; and they had no time to convert any of the Native people to Catholicism. However,
once they did get settled and started to become acclimatized to Florida s environment they

Star Wars Essay
Few great filmmakers can write and oversee the production of a film that will be relevant and
built upon for the next 4 decades. Even fewer filmmakers can be regarded as the person who
changed cinema forever. George Lucas did all of this in 1977 with the release of the film he
created, originally called, The Star Wars. He had this idea after his first feature length film
American Graffiti in 1973. This film became popular and he later pitched his idea for a space
opera to the production company. They agreed and Star Wars was born. In the beginning, it was
meant to be one film, which would entail all of the story for the three films in the original trilogy,

The saga s brand consistently finds a place in the top five licensed toy brands each year,
according to NPD Group (Ames). This shows that the franchise has grown into one of the largest

Voter Turnout In a democracy citizens are permitted to have a significant amount of influence on
government through the election of government officials. This is known as Direct Democracy,
which means that the citizens play a significant role on the laws and policies of the land. Although
the liberty of voting is available, why is the voter turnout so low? Many other countries have a much
larger vote turnout than the United States. The reason for this varies; some major points would be
the Demographics, voting laws, and political favoritism/corruption that affect the voter turnout.

Carpetbaggers
Carpetbaggers were northerners who headed to the southern states during and immediately after
the Civil War, propelled by wanting to work on behalf of liberated slaves, a desire for economic
gain, or a mix of both. Carpetbaggers got their name because many of them had large bags made
from carpets to hold their belongings. Although many in the South saw carpetbaggers as people
who wanted to exploit and profit from the south s misfortunes, Carpetbaggers would play an
important role in shaping the south s government during Reconstruction. African Americans in
the south who had just been emancipated were restricted their freedom when southern
legislatures passed black codes , which forced them into repressive labor situations. The Black
Codes were laws designed with the intention to guarantee African American s availability as a
cheap labor force after slavery was eliminated during the Civil War, and to keep white supremacy
in place. Common examples of Black Codes were: Race was defined by blood; the presence of
any amount of black blood made one black, Employment was required of all freedmen; violators

At the beginning of the story, the gods are debating what to do with the Greeks after they
pillaged Troy, but more specifically, violated Athena s shrine. Athena asks for help and says to
Poseidon, I want to help the Trojans who were my enemies, and make the Greek army s
homecoming a bitter one. (Euripides 63). To which Poseidon replies, You re so fickle. Your
mind leaps here and there: now you hate, and now you love, and both in excess. (Euripides 65).
Even Poseidon admits to the fickleness of the goddess since her allies during the war were the
Greeks. This lends itself to show that Helen could be telling the truth about the goddesses having
an argument about the beauty of each other and Aphrodite forcing Helen to run away with Paris.
Helen also helps her argument by pointing out that the fight was preordained by the gods based
on the prophecy about Paris, and then blames Paris s mother and father for letting Paris live,
rather than slaying Paris and trying to stop the prophecy from coming true. Through the many
effective arguments, Helen shows that she did not ask to be carried away by Paris and that she
liked Menelaus. Menelaus seems very weak compared to Helen, especially since he seems to not
be able to make up his mind whether to kill her or not. In the end, Menelaus seems to decide on

Ethos Pathos Logos
Advertisement Success and the Use of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos
The main purpose of commercials and advertisements is to persuade the viewer to purchase the
product that is advertised, but not all commercials are successful in this endeavor. Companies, such
as Budweiser and Kleenex, appeal to the viewers ethos, logos, and pathos in order to influence
them to buy the advertised product(s). In order to appeal to each of the categories, companies use
different tactics to catch viewers attention. The use of ethos, logos, and pathos can make or break
an advertisement based on how it is being used.
Budweiser first released its Lost Dog commercial during Super Bowl XLIX (49). The
advertisement centers itself around a small dog who, out of curiosity, enters a truck trailer without
the knowledge of his owner. The dog then attempts to find its way back home but encounters an
obstacle that it cannot overcome a hungry wolf. When all hope seems lost, the dog s best friends,
the Budweiser trademarked Clydesdale horses, come to save him. The dog and horses all make it
back home to their owner at the end of the advertisement.
The commercial appeals to the audience s pathos more than anything. Animals, especially dogs,
have a way of pulling with human heartstrings. ...they can be used to transfer desired meanings to
the products with which they are associated (Phillips 1). In other words, using animals in

master, reduce, or tolerated the demands created by stress (Weiten 444). While learning how to
play Hotel California, I had to practice playing the same chords for each chords more than once,
it was frustrating. Lucky my brother help me find an easier way to learn the chords which help
solved the frustration problems, and it made me wanted to keep on practicing until I achieve my
SMART goal of being able to learn how to play

Cowboy Vs. Samurai
Despite being titled Cowboy vs. Samurai, there is no literal cowboy or samurai, or a physical
showdown between the two; instead it is an ideological clash between the two extremes in what
they represent: identities. Set in a present day town Wyoming, Golamco presents to us the desperate
struggles of Travis and Chester in defining their own identities and find a sense of true belonging,
during which they must both turn to reference and reiterate the conventions of meaning that define
communities, societies or nations (Lee, 185).
In Golamco s fictional town of Breakneck, we are introduced to story of the two extremes in
performing the Asian identity; Chester, the man in limbo, who poses all the facial features, skin

As the species that depends on sight more than any other scent, seeing so often has certainly
become much more than believing, which is only further reinforced by this age of intense and
numerous visual stimuli. Upon my recent visit to New York City, I could easily see that the line
for the virtual city ride at the Empire State building was much longer than that for the
observation deck. This mania for visual experience has taken over, increasing our conviction in
what we see as what is, despite their crucial differences. Yet, this is no newfound novelty. The
human tendency to take things at their face value is ancient and persisting. This excessive
dependence on visual stimulation has led to an excessive false belief in the falsity of
appearances; a belief that causes the casual classification of people that is so rigid and narrow in
its function that failure to fit into them results in losing one s sense of identity, even when
identity is itself such a fluid and complex concept. I have always contended that human beings
have a tendency to classify what we experience into categories and assign them with labels. With
our dependence on visual stimulation, we generate concepts and categorizations based on what
we see, and file them away to be used on a wider scale, allowing those who live in China and
those who live in the UK to synthesis the signified through a similar signifier. As our world
becomes more

Intro to Physical Anthropology Chap 1,2,3
Chapter One Introduction Anthropology: the study of humans in all times, situations, and places.
Physical Anthropology: the scientific study of humans as biological organisms, in an evolutionary
context. Branches of Physical Anthropology: Human evolution: the study of how and why our
human ancestors changed over millions of years. Genetics: the mechanics of inheritance and how
evolutionary change works. Paleoanthropology: the study of the fossil record of ancestral humans
and their primate relatives. Anthropometry: measurement of the human body, particularly the
skeleton, e.g. craniometry. Medical Anthropology: the study of health, illness, and healing from a

evolution is moving in a straight direction due to a driving force. Philosophical Stances and
Evolution Theistic Evolution acceptance of evolution combined with a belief in an involvement
of a divine creator. Science and religion as complementary to each other, not opposed. Atheistic
Evolution acceptance of evolution combined with a belief that there is no divine creator, or no
God. More scientists likely adopt this position( e.g Richard Dawkins) with a tendency to see
science as right and religion as wrong. Creation Science (Intelligent Design) complex living
systems must have been designed supernaturally( e.g. the human brain or the human eye). Concept
of irreducible complexity( an attempt to be scientific) Ex. X is a complicated system made up of
interconnected parts. If you take any of the parts away, X won t work. Therefore, X could not have
evolved from a simpler state, as anything less than the full set of parts work not work. Nothing
intermediate can exist. Natural Selection Species typically produce more offspring than their
environment can sustain. Individuals that are better fit within that environment will survive. They
will produce offspring with a good chance of inheriting the favorable traits. There is a better
chance of the traits being passed on when sexual selection is at

A Woman s World Essay
A Woman s World
There is a great distance present between woman in education and woman in society. Women in
society, specifically the work place, do not reflect the portrayal of women in education. There is a
thin line present between the identity of woman and what characteristics are needed to succeed in
the work environment. Woman are capable of obtaining the characteristics that lead to success
however, many may question where, when and how these traits are taught to women. In What Does
a Woman Need to Know? b Andriene Rich states that woman may need to look farther than what
lessons are provided in standard education in order to achieve success in the working environment.
There is no women s college today which is providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of teachers are woman who decide how and what is taught. Woman are struggling to
obtain such different roles in society compared to the roles portrayed in these children books. It
seems as though the situation has demonstrated a revolving cycle. Children are taught that a
successful woman is otherwise known as a mommy . Today in society, many women view success
as something related to the work place. The portrayal of women in what is being taught is far
from the reality of what women are trying so hard to obtain in the work place. If the majority of
teachers are woman, then why aren t they teaching the tools to survive successfully in the work
place? If women themselves have never been taught these ideas and have had to learn the survival
techniques from within, then there is no common lesson present to teach. These lessons are
defined differently for each individual through experience, time, and observation. Being a teacher
in a career dominated by women, one is rarely challenged in the way that woman are challenged
in the mans world . Predominately teachers may not even be aware of the challenges women face
outside of a teachers profession. If they do, they have not experienced it themselves, and therefor
may not know how to go about implying survival skills through the education that one is providing.
If women teachers are not aware of what society s disadvantages are then they can not teach

The T-34 Research Paper
The tank was one of the deadliest weapons in World War 2. Over 331,000 tanks were produced
during the war. Most of the countries fighting in the war had tanks, including the British,
Americans, Germans, and the Soviets. All of these countries had tanks that outperformed their other
tanks, and that outperformed the other countries tanks. One of these was the Soviet s T 34.
The T 34 was created to replace the BT series of fast, lightweight tanks. The Soviet realized the
BT s weakness in battle and requested its official replacement in 1937, two years before World
War Two. The T 34 became the most produced tank in the war and is considered to be one of the
best tanks in the war. Jason Belcourt, talking about the T 34, said In 1941 when Hitler launched
Barbarossa, the tank was indisputably the best in the world. The T 34 was able to stop the German
advancement into the Soviet Union and save the country. The T 34 had some flaws though. The
sloping armor of the T 34 provided safety from the weak 40 mm guns of the Germans, but the
armor made the quarters cramped and the working conditions poor. To go along with the small size
of the tank, the technology was very outdated. To communicate with the other tanks, a flag system
would have to be used. The aiming systems were also very outdated and couldn t compete ... Show

The Americans also had a tank of their own; the M4 Sherman. The Sherman was a huge asset to
the Allied operations in North Africa, Europe and in the Pacific. It was cheap, easy to make, and
performed well in the field. Almost 50,000 of these tanks were made during the war. The
Sherman was able to accommodate a 5 man crew and was able to go 25 MPH for 120 miles. The
Sherman was a great tank that was used many decades into the Cold War. The Sherman was able to
serve its country by being a reliable weapon to fall back on and being cheap and easy enough to
make that thousands could be put into

Partnership Is An Arrangement Between The Parties And...
Partnership is an arrangement between the parties and cooperates to carry on the business with
mutual benefits and interest. For determining partnership, there must be a valid contract, should
posses mutual rights, agency, interest and obligations with the view of making profit. The
characteristics of partnership are unlimited liability where the members of the company are legally
bound for paying the debt while dissolving of the company. When two or more people enter into a
contract to share the liabilities, risk and profit of a business firm is known as partnership.

1)The business should be continuous; it should be carried on in days to come. The transactions
should be carried on and repetitive actions should be implemented. According to Smith v
Anderson [1880]15 Ch D 247, Brett J held that, the expression carrying on implies a repetition of
acts and excludes the case of an association formed for doing one particular acts and excludes the
case of an association formed for doing one particular act which is never repeated
Smith v Anderson [1880]15 CH D 247, James l. J defined an ordinary partnership as a partnership
composed of definite individual, bound together by contract between them to continue combined
for some joint object .
With the Canny Canny Gabriel Castle Jackson Advertising Pty Ltd v Volume Sales (Finance) Pty
Ltd [1974] HCA 22; (1974) 131 CLR 321 (5 June 1974) case too, the high court made a fair
judgment by making the Canny and volume sales to share the profits, and the policies of joint
venture would result to joint agreement. The parties should be apprehensive about the financial
constancy about each other.
2)The business should be carried on in the view of making earnings and profits. The court adopts
the balance sheet approaches for calculating the proceeds of the business which eventually
concludes loss or profit of the business.

peripheral neuropathies (14).
On current 1.5T scanners (GE machine), 2D (dimensional) imaging can be performed with near
similar resolution as on
3T scanners; however, 3D imaging is often limited, especially if smaller voxels are used or fat

susceptibility artifacts and for superior nerve visualization,
1.5T imaging is often favored. 2D pulse sequences include high resolution (base resolution 256 or

heterogeneous
SI, focal or diffuse nerve enlargement, enlargement and effacement due to different degrees of
edema, and fascicular disruption with intraneural and/or perineural fibrosis (22,23).
Denervation changes of muscle can have several MRI appearances. In the subacute phase the
affected muscle demonstrates increased T2 signal resulting from muscle edema. In the chronic
stages, fatty infiltration usually accompanied by muscle atrophy represents irreversible muscle
injury (24).
Our study includes 30 patients complaining of shoulder pain and 10 healthy volunteers as control
group, and the cause of nerve injury in our series includes the direct trauma and repetitive activities
which led to overuse of the upper limb in the athletic ones.
In the current study 12 cases showed decreased bulk and fatty infiltration of the supra and infra
spinatus muscles and the supraspinatus was more affected than the infraspinatus.
Unlike the study of PoВЁ yhiaВЁ et al. in 2005 (25) that diffuse atrophy of the supra infra spinatus

  • 3. What Is Lucretius Argument Against Religion Lucretius, a Roman philosopher, was greatly inspired by the teachings of Epicurus. In Lucretius s book, On the Nature of Things, he expands on many Epicurean principles and at times even alters them. Nothing comes from nothing , the first principle that Lucretius endorses, is essential to his argument for the origin of the world. Using this principle, Lucretius against the accepted Roman religion by adding the concept that divine intervention is not the root of creation, instead he gives credit to atoms. These atoms, or beginnings of things, he reasoned, came together to form masses called bodies. The earth was one such body, and it yielded many bodies within it. This entire process, governed by nature, is what Lucretius believes created the world and everything in it. However, Lucretius falls short in his argument against religion by indirectly asserting that nature is in fact a God. Although Lucretius explicitly states in Book 5 of On the Nature of Things, that the true being behind the world s beginning, Mother Nature, is not a divine being, the characteristics he assigns her prove otherwise.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, he passionately asserts that the earth herself and Nature [is] the artificer of things . (Lucretius 5. 243 244). Explaining his theory, he articulates that atoms, an integral part of nature, operate under circumstances in which they swerve a little (2. 219) causing collisions. These collisions led to the formation of things, both animate and inanimate. In other words, these atoms successfully created the earth and all the creatures living upon it. In essence, rather than deny the creation of the world by an unknown force or even by chance, Lucretius simply substitutes the role of the Roman gods with Nature. Nature, thus, well deserves the name of mother , well deserves the title creator, and well deserves the title ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the Citrate test, S. typhimurium produced a positive result, which indicated sodium carbonate was present (Pearson s 2011). A positive result was obtained during the Methyl Red test, which indicated that the organism was capable of fermenting glucose and contained a higher hydrogen ion concentration (Pearson s 2011). S. typhimurium produced negative results during the Indole test, which showed that tryptophan was unable to be hydrolyzed (Pearson s 2011). The Lactose and Sucrose Ferment tests both produced negative results and no production of gas, indicating that there was no change in the pH and fermentation did not occur (Pearson s 2011). • 6. Reflective Essay On Mental Illness Faced with the overwhelming stigma that surrounds mental illness, we have spent the semester learning how to break down doorways into the lives of characters who have struggled with their mental health. Far too often have these doors been kept bolted shut. As a consequence of public fear and lack of understanding, the people behind these doors individuals with mental illnesses have been given no choice but to strugglein silence. In reading various works throughout the semester, we have been able to begin to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Trying to gain understanding, we have not only opened doorways, but we have begun to construct empathic tunnels between our own lives and the unfamiliar universes of characters with mental illness. Reading the novels throughout this class sometimes made me uncomfortable, usually hurt my heart, and always made me ask questions and I think that s the whole point. The novels we read gave voices to people who felt like they did not have a voice, because they had been silenced for so long. Refracted through various time periods and genres, the novels we read provided insight into the progression of mental illness throughout decades, namely into how mental illness is regarded by the public. Maybe we don t treat people exactly like how the unnamed narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper was treated anymore, and maybe we have a better understanding of mental illness now than we did during Edna St. Vincent Millay s time, ... This power point is going to go through how our cultural values here in the United States differ from those in South Africa. Diversity is the one word that describes South Africa best Diversity seeps throughout the whole country, from the rich to the poor, from the flora to the fauna, and from the dense forests to the dry deserts. • 9. Cultural Competence And Health Care Workers Get The Same... Article Review Brittany Loy Nebraska Methodist College Miscommunication, medication errors, and lack of compliance commonly occur in the healthcare field. These are just a few of the errors that occur due to the patient being from a different culture than the physician or healthcare worker. Those three errors alone have a huge impact on our healthcare today. If we could have a better understanding of other cultures that are different from our own we could have a dramatic decrease in errors and a great increase in healthcare participation. Training must be completed and must be done in more than one way. The first step is to make sure that all physicians and health care workers get the same nationwide training that focuses on improving cultural competence. How this is completed must be done in more than one way (Horwitz, 2001). The goal in fixing/decreasing this issue is to make sure the team has cultural competence. Cultural competence in healthcare has been operationalized as the ability to provide high quality care for patients with diverse values, beliefs, and behaviors, including the customization of service delivery and administration to meet the patients social and cultural needs (Anderson, 2003). Up until recently, medical schools did not fit this concept into its teaching, which is an issue for doctors who are older, as they were not taught the importance of this. • 10. The Cognitive Dissonance Theory ( Cdt ) Essay Introduction This paper applies the principles of the cognitive dissonance theory (CDT) to the potential racial motivations of homegrown terrorists. Generally, the CDT rests on the premise that in a situation where one is faced with conflicting attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors, there is a need to restore harmony, with his or her pre existing thoughts and ideas. In addition, this need for harmony can give rise to irrational and sometimes maladaptive behaviors in order to reinstate that balance (Mcleod, 2014). From the perspective of this analysis, it seems appropriate to apply the CDT to the potential racial motivations of Americans that self radicalize as one can easily be influenced to change their perception of terrorism after consistently being the target of attacks against their race. Determining the motivation may help prevent future Americans from self radicalizing and prevent future homegrown terrorist attacks. With the CDT used to research and analyze motivations of homegrown terrorist attacks. The Cognitive Dissonance Theory (CDT) As people, we often presume that the actions displayed by a person are piloted through their individual thoughts and opinions, however, the cognitive dissonance theory (CDT) shows that this is not always the case. Labeled by some as an action opinion theory, the theory of cognitive dissonance explains how people are compelled to commit actions contrary to their beliefs. The basic principle behind action opinion theories is that these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, the framers wrapped their heads around the notion that every man is created equal and should have the same chances to excel as everyone else (Williamsburg Foundation, 2005). The constitutional creators also believed in limited government, as large government hindered the rights of the people and thus stifled innovation. The roots of the constitution come from a largely pragmatic and realist base who wished to ensure that people in the future could modify the constitution as necessary. However, they would have to go through quite a bit of red tape to do it. This would ensure nobody s rights were trampled and that everyone agreed on the change. It was a brilliant idea. Very few documents have ever lasted through the test of time such as the United States Constitution (Williamsburg Foundation, 2005). I envision the United States Constitution standing through the next few generations. However, currently it s under attack by the ever growing socialist movement. The chemo mechanical mechanisms of tribocorrosion are still incompletely understood, they involve the properties of contacting material surfaces, the mechanics of the contact and the corrosion conditions (D Landolt, 2006). The tribocorrosion example clearly illustrates how climate could directly affect the electronics industry. Topographic considerations are also directly linked to this industry. • 16. History On The Origin Of State Charters Essay Brief History on the Origin of State Charters in California California has followed the steps of many American states by committing its efforts on ensuring educational developments through improved governance systems. In the last half a decade or so, there have emerged diverse levels of studies in California State majorly because of three reasons which include several legislative practices, institutions, and participation of state agencies. The California Educational Commission was created as early as 1899 with a number of 70 members to study the state s educational program with an effort of improving it. Of much interest was the recommendation that legislation had to be twisted to form a uniform board for the governing of normal colleges and universities in California. This issue resulted in the formulation of a law that placed the normal colleges and universities in California under the State Board of Education. A legislation in the year 1992 found it necessary to have schools and authorized their creation. The legislation also came up with requirements for appeal signature and as a result a county appeals process was created and whose charter renewal came after every five years. The legislation also made clear the grounds for which the charters could be considered null and void. The flexibility of the legislation allowed there to be an amendment in 1998, which brought about a change in the requirements for petition signature and gave the mandate of revoking any charter to ... • 20. The Status And Perception Of Women Literature Review Draft 2 For centuries, the status and perception of women has been a disputed and controversial subject. Due to precarious political or social standings, even women in power were subject to the judgement and power of men. When considering the portrayal of exceptional women throughout history, rarely has a woman been able to fully embrace the stage without reservations. An analysis of research texts and journal articles reveals and connects the way that a queen of ancient times and one of the English Renaissance controlled their image, were affected by societal views of women, and were ultimately depicted. Scholarship on Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth I relays the idea that society and patriarchy led to their respective authorities and depictions. Mary Hamer, author of Signs of Cleopatra, a historical research text, investigates Cleopatra s cultural significance from her earliest representations in her own time to her status as a symbol in modern times. In the chapter, Cleopatra: housewife, she discusses Cleopatra s image between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries, a time that spans the invention of the printing press and the proliferance of Elizabethan playwright, William Shakespeare. Hamer uses the work of Petrarch, Boccaccio, and Jan de Bray, which was spread rapidly due to the printing press, as a lens to view Cleopatra s image. In regards to this image, she notes the changing attitude towards women, a result of the Reformation creating an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Polymer Weight Averages And Molecular Distribution Part:C A 1: Polymer weight averages and molecular distribution: There are two types of molecular averages from which we can , the number average and weight average, which can we calculate by knowing the number of molecules and that weight fractions in the polymer. If we are given numbers of molecules with their molecular weights. Then we can calculate number average molecular weight (Mn) and weight average molecular weight (Mw). From that, we can get polydispersity index and know it is monodispersed or not. Suppose, we are given number of molecules (Ni) and molecular weight of those molecules (Mi), Number average molecular weight Weight average molecular weight Polydispersity index (PDI) = If PDI = 1 then mixture is homogeneous And if PDI 1 then mixture is heterogeneous We can draw molecular weight distribution by taking the molecular weight (M) on the X axis and Number of molecules (N) on Y axis or vice versa. Figure (1) is the molecular weight distribution. Cross linking in polymer: When two or more molecular chains chemically react with each other and make covalent bonds between them which are called cross linking. It makes polymers high dense. Cross linking decreases free volume, so it is difficult for molecular chains to spread out which makes its Tg range broadened compared to amorphous polymers. Therefore, the only way to obtain certain cells would be to use pluripotent stem cells, which are found in embryos and fetal tissue. This is where much controversy comes into play with stem cells. Much research is needed and this will only happen if federal funds are used to conduct research on stem cells. In August of 2001, President Bush made a speech regarding stem cell research. In this essay, I will compare and contrast how Spain, France, England, and America viewed and interacted with Native peoples differently as they colonized North America. It is reported that roughly three hundred and fifty thousand Native Americans called the area known today as Florida home, when Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon landed his fleet of ships on the coast in the early 1500 s. As we have discussed and learned when the Native people were colonized by outsiders it was not a great day. The Natives of Florida were not immune; war, slavery, disease, and extremely low child birth rates took a devastating toll on the Florida tribes. A charter penned by Ponce de Leon, known as the encomienda, granted Spain the ability to enslave the Natives of Florida. Forcing them to work in the crop fields and essentially making them the major labor force; constructing and designing the buildings occupied by the Spanish. The oppression did not end there. Around the middle of the 16th century the Native people were declared to be free, but only on paper. The Spanish royals felt that the Natives needed to educated in the ways of Catholicism, and those that did not want to conform could be punished up to and including death. • 42. Cowboy Vs. Samurai Despite being titled Cowboy vs. Samurai, there is no literal cowboy or samurai, or a physical showdown between the two; instead it is an ideological clash between the two extremes in what they represent: identities. Set in a present day town Wyoming, Golamco presents to us the desperate struggles of Travis and Chester in defining their own identities and find a sense of true belonging, during which they must both turn to reference and reiterate the conventions of meaning that define communities, societies or nations (Lee, 185). As the species that depends on sight more than any other scent, seeing so often has certainly become much more than believing, which is only further reinforced by this age of intense and numerous visual stimuli. Upon my recent visit to New York City, I could easily see that the line for the virtual city ride at the Empire State building was much longer than that for the observation deck. This mania for visual experience has taken over, increasing our conviction in what we see as what is, despite their crucial differences. Yet, this is no newfound novelty. The human tendency to take things at their face value is ancient and persisting. This excessive dependence on visual stimulation has led to an excessive false belief in the falsity of appearances; a belief that causes the casual classification of people that is so rigid and narrow in its function that failure to fit into them results in losing one s sense of identity, even when identity is itself such a fluid and complex concept. I have always contended that human beings have a tendency to classify what we experience into categories and assign them with labels. With our dependence on visual stimulation, we generate concepts and categorizations based on what we see, and file them away to be used on a wider scale, allowing those who live in China and those who live in the UK to synthesis the signified through a similar signifier. As our world becomes more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Philosophical Stances and Evolution Theistic Evolution acceptance of evolution combined with a belief in an involvement of a divine creator. Science and religion as complementary to each other, not opposed. Atheistic Evolution acceptance of evolution combined with a belief that there is no divine creator, or no God. More scientists likely adopt this position( e.g Richard Dawkins) with a tendency to see science as right and religion as wrong. Creation Science (Intelligent Design) complex living systems must have been designed supernaturally( e.g. the human brain or the human eye). Concept of irreducible complexity( an attempt to be scientific) Ex. X is a complicated system made up of interconnected parts. If you take any of the parts away, X won t work. Therefore, X could not have evolved from a simpler state, as anything less than the full set of parts work not work. Nothing intermediate can exist. Natural Selection Species typically produce more offspring than their environment can sustain. Individuals that are better fit within that environment will survive. They will produce offspring with a good chance of inheriting the favorable traits. There is a better chance of the traits being passed on when sexual selection is at ... Women in society, specifically the work place, do not reflect the portrayal of women in education. Children are taught that a successful woman is otherwise known as a mommy . Today in society, many women view success as something related to the work place. The portrayal of women in what is being taught is far from the reality of what women are trying so hard to obtain in the work place. If the majority of teachers are woman, then why aren t they teaching the tools to survive successfully in the work place? If women themselves have never been taught these ideas and have had to learn the survival techniques from within, then there is no common lesson present to teach. These lessons are defined differently for each individual through experience, time, and observation. Being a teacher in a career dominated by women, one is rarely challenged in the way that woman are challenged in the mans world . Predominately teachers may not even be aware of the challenges women face outside of a teachers profession. • 45. The T-34 Research Paper The tank was one of the deadliest weapons in World War 2. Over 331,000 tanks were produced during the war. Most of the countries fighting in the war had tanks, including the British, Americans, Germans, and the Soviets. All of these countries had tanks that outperformed their other tanks, and that outperformed the other countries tanks. One of these was the Soviet s T 34. The T 34 was created to replace the BT series of fast, lightweight tanks. The Soviet realized the BT s weakness in battle and requested its official replacement in 1937, two years before World War Two. The T 34 became the most produced tank in the war and is considered to be one of the best tanks in the war. Jason Belcourt, talking about the T 34, said In 1941 when Hitler launched Barbarossa, the tank was indisputably the best in the world. The T 34 was able to stop the German advancement into the Soviet Union and save the country. The T 34 had some flaws though. The sloping armor of the T 34 provided safety from the weak 40 mm guns of the Germans, but the armor made the quarters cramped and the working conditions poor. To go along with the small size of the tank, the technology was very outdated. To communicate with the other tanks, a flag system would have to be used. The aiming systems were also very outdated and couldn t compete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On current 1.5T scanners (GE machine), 2D (dimensional) imaging can be performed with near similar resolution as on 3T scanners; however, 3D imaging is often limited, especially if smaller voxels are used or fat suppression is applied. On the other hand, if there is metal in the field of view, in order to mitigate susceptibility artifacts and for superior nerve visualization, 1.5T imaging is often favored. 2D pulse sequences include high resolution (base resolution 256 or higher, in plane resolution 0.3 0.4 mm) T1 weighted and fat suppressed T2w images (16).
