Necessary Evil
Words That Give Direction: Support, Refute, Qualify

thesis
Thesis: In Cormac McCarthy s The Road, the idea that someone cannot experience goodness before
they discover evil is strengthened by the dynamic between the cautious father and the naive and
innocent nature of the boy.
Paragraph 1: father s struggle with morality
CD1: fell back instantly and lay with blood bubbling from a hole in his head,
CD2: the boy crying and looking back at the nude and slatlike creature standing there in the road
and shivering and hugging himself
Paragraph 2: boy s compassion
CD1: carrying the fire
CD2: I don t want the gun.
The idea that evil may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the man faces choosing lesser evils in order to survive, he compliments the goodness found
in his son, who instead of basing his actions off his own survival, he bases them off his innocent
desire to be and do good, as he asks his father on several occasions after partaking in questionable
acts if they are still carrying the fire. While his father is preoccupied with survival, he is focused
on helping those survivors he sees around him in a naive hope to be the good guy. At one point,
his father thinks death is right around the corner and tells his son to take the gun, but his son
refuses saying, I don t want the gun, (70.5 6). The boy only associates the gun with its ability to
take life away, excluding the protection it gives him and his father, which in his eyes makes the
gun a symbol of evil and destruction; something he wishes to be separate from. However, the boy
takes the gun anyways, finally realizing that its evil is necessary in order to survive, so that he
may continue to carry the fire of the good

Night, Schindler s List, and The Diary of Anne Frank Essay
Night, Schindler s List, and The Diary of Anne Frank
The Holocaust was the most horrific time that man has known. To survive this atrocity, the
Holocaust victims man upon man atrocity, one had to summon bravery, strength, courage, and
wisdom that many did not know they possessed. One survivor is Elie Wiesel, whose exquisite
writings have revealed the world of horror suffered by the Jewish people. Elie Wiesel s
statement, ...to remain silent and indifferent is the greatest sin of all... stands as a succinct
summary of his views on life and serves as the driving force of his work. Elie Wiesel was born as
Eliezer, a free Jewish male, on September 30, 1928, in the remote town of Sighet, Hungary. The

They were made to dig huge graves. And when they had finished their work, the Gestapo began
theirs. Without passion, without haste, they slaughtered their prisoners. Each one had to go up to
the hole and present his neck. Babies were thrown into the air and the machine gunners used them
as targets. This was in the forest of Galicia, near Kolomaye. How had Moche the Beadle escaped?
Miraculously. He was wounded in the leg and taken for dead. ...
Throughout Europe, similar horrific tales of slaughter and abuse began to surface as Adolf
Hitler became more successful and aggressive in his quest to create a purely Aryan nation.
Another, considerably more violent phase of anti Jewish activity took place in 1938 and 1939; it
was initiated on November 9 10, 1938, the infamous Kristallnacht, or night of shattered glass.
Passports were still being issued for Jews to travel to Palestine; however, many elders refused to
leave. The task of starting over in a foreign land proved to be overwhelming, and no one believed
these conditions would intensify nor continue.
As long as the Jews did not cause trouble, they were left to manage themselves with minimal daily
interference from the soldiers. As the war in the outside world escalated, their world started to
disintegrate. The soldiers moved them every couple of weeks to a new location, leaving behind
personal belongings, and suffering through humiliating personal searches.

U.S. History 1877-1933 Essay
The United States emerged from a virulent, intense, and inhumane civil war and evolved into a new
nation during this period. This transition was the culmination of political, economic, social, and
cultural movements which transformed the nation. E Pluribus Unum out of many United States,
one nation; the United Stateswas forged in the cauldron of these revolutions. quot; Arnold Toynbee,
A Study of History
The above statement is one that seems to be very true when looking back upon the history of the
United States. From the years 1877 to 1933, this country went through many changes and

The Granger Movement, the Greenback Movement, and the Silver Movement were also very
influential in the shaping of present day America. But one of the most important movements in
American history is the business movement, although the rise of business during this time is not
called a movement, I feel that calling it a movement is appropriate. The rise of business and
corporations is very significant because it shaped the American economy and helped lead America
to become so successful. Corporations helped put capital into the economy and promote trade with
other countries, thus strengthening diplomacy. Big businesses and corporations also provide
employment. A major disadvantage of corporations is the possibility of a monopoly forming. This
would hurt other small businesses as well as the economy. Influential leaders of the business
movement are Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan, Armour, Hill, and Vanderbilt. Important results of
this movement are the increase of national wealth, increase in standard of living, immigration,

Class Struggle In Everything That Rises Must Converge By...
Class struggle is the tension between different classes resulted from different interest, social,
and economic position. There is always an intangible boundary between the ruling class and the
working class. All the members of two classes are well educated that they have to act as their
role, and none of them are allowed to violate the border between two classes. This idea is formed
and maintained by the ideological state apparatuses, particularly by family and school, in raising
children and forming society. How the members of different class treat each other has been
discussed in many pieces of art, including The Doll s House by Katherine Mansfield and
Everything That Rises Must Converge by Flannery O Connor. In general, all the class... Show more

Julian...relates to the world around him by cynical misjudgments. Caught between two cultures

the civil movement. However, he was raised in the society where everyone lived with the
mindset of racism. He is not genuinely sympathetic to the blacks. In fact, he just tries to prove
that he is different from his mother. O Connor states that He had never been successful at
making any Negro friends. He had tried to strike up an acquaintance on the bus with some of the
better types, with ones that looked like professors or ministers or lawyers. (O Connor 6) He
cannot make friend with any black people, because, deeply inside, he is still care about their skin
color. He only chooses the better types who he believes worth knowing. At this point, he is also
considered himself belong to a higher class. Julian s mother is a racist woman. However, she
never does anything bad to the black people. She just chooses to live separately from the Negros.
At least, she is honest to herself, and live with what she believes. In contrast, Julian is two faced.
He always criticizes his mother for being racist, while in fact, he only talks to the Blacks who are
worthy enough to associate with. At the end, Julian is just another victim of the ideology

By freeing up payroll dollars I would hire an experienced accountant that would provide better
projections based on more accurate data. I feel an experienced accountant that had worked in the
food service industry would have been able to advise them that they did not need to budget on a
yearly sales forecast that was divided by 52 weeks in the year. This shows poor budgeting skills
because they are trying to obtain a heavy student mix and the students are not in the area for the
entire year.
Financial forecasting is such an integral part of any successful start up business and there are major
issues with the way it has been done.
I would also look at the existing data from sales to see if the original market segmentation has
followed through to the actual sales numbers. With the influx of students during the school year and
the absence of students over the holidays and summer, if the tapas area is not producing the
necessary sales then the restaurant might need to devote more space to the fine dining
establishment. As it currently stands, the tapas bar is composed of 75% of the floor space, except
in the summer when it commands 80% of the floor space, which includes the patio area. The fine
dining area is limited to only 25% of the sales, except during the summer when it

In General, The Word Miseducation Means To Educate...
In general, the word miseducation means to educate improperly. There are likely several ways I
have been miseducated, some of which I may not even be aware of yet. I have long understood
that education can happen outside a classroom. In fact many valuable life lessons were learned just
going about day to day activities. Some of the best learnings have come from raising a child,
experiencing and enduring tragedy and of course family has provided positive and negative lessons.
When I think about miseducation I instantly go to my experiences within the educationsystem. It is
ironic to think that the education system may have educated me improperly. I have two university
experiences, one past and one present, that provide clarification.

Those that were unsuccessful at securing an internship never became Dietitians. Some went back
to university and some to general jobs in society. This program has since been significantly
revised. Today, the internship is integrated into the program. If you are accepted into the program
you will still graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and immediately be eligible to
register as a Dietitian. No one is miseducated of the outcome when applying to the program today.
My second university experience is occurring at present. I have enrolled in the twelve month
Bachelor of Education program to become an elementary teacher. I hope to graduate with a
Bachelor of Arts much to my family s surprise. From day one we have been educated on the pitfalls
of the current education system. We have been guided to examine the system, the purpose of school
and the hidden curriculum with a critical eye. We have been encouraged to promote democratic
and enacted learning, to take brain breaks and we have been taught that the brain is incapable of
learning when it is in a stressed state. We have seen wonderful examples of teachers modeling
enacted learning and by no means do I mean my comments to be disrespectful of any instructor.

The Importance Of Arts In Education
Some schools in the United States offer a variety of arts programs, while other schools may have
mediocre to non existent arts programs. Students in their early years of schooling from elementary
to high school depending on whether he or she has an arts education can affect them in the long
run. Art programs since the 1980s have integrated into public education, however the No Child Left
Behind act has since put the arts in the decline. According to Americans, 93% of them agree the
arts are vital to providing a well rounded education for children and 86% agree that arts education

Under the No Child Left Behind Act, passed in 2002, the federal government started assessing
school districts by their students scores on reading and mathematics tests. Due to having reading
and mathematics as the core way of assessing how much a school does and how much it receives in
federal funding, schools focus more on reading and math over anything else including art. Deep
budget cuts on the art education at the benefit of mathematics and reading has long lasting effects
on schools that do so. According to National Endowment for the Arts 2015 Annual Report, many
state and local organizations depend on federal funding to sustain accessible arts programs

Analysis Of Rancho Solano Preparatory School
Introduction
Rancho Solano Preparatory School (RSPS) was founded in 1954 and for decades was highly
praised by parents as being family oriented and community centered. In 2007, the school was sold
to Meritas Family of Schools and within the subsequent seven years changed its strategy to one with
international interests. Other changes in the school were not so positive and included an increased
lack of transparency with parents and teachers, which resulted in a gradual disconnect with the
community leading to anger and distrust on the part of parents. To address these issues, this paper
will identify the three major organizational subsystems and recommend changes to the subsystem
most in need of change. In addition, this paper will provide ... Show more content on

The RSPS website reveals an organizational structure that looks to be very bureaucratic with a
significant number of administrators and directors of various departments. The employee count for
RSPS is also much higher than competing schools such as #1 ranked private school Brophy College
Preparatory with 1,275 students and 150 staff (8.5 students per employee) ; #2 ranked private
school, Northwest Christian School with 1,410 students and 92 employees on one campus(15
students per employee); and # 4 ranked private school, Xavier College Preparatory with 1,163
students and 155 employees on one campus (7.5 students per employee). Comparatively, RSPS has
1,137 students and 200 employees (5.7 students per employee) (Top 10 Arizona Companies: Private
Schools, 2014). This is not a horizontal organization that is becoming more and more common in
today s business world. The teacher subsystem should be changed into an adaptive organization or
organic design (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). In the adaptive design, authority would be
decentralized, with fewer rules and procedures, wide spans of control, shared tasks, more teams and
task forces, and more informal and personal coordination (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). The
planned change would result in improved interpersonal connection with students, their parents, and
other teachers. Administrators, while serving an important function would not be the focus. In the
case of RSPS, one could argue that administrators have

ABC System Used by United Parcel Service (UPS) Essay
United Parcel Service (UPS) was founded in 1907 as a messenger company. It has grown into a
multi billion dollar corporation. Today UPS is a global company and one of the most admired
and recognized brands in the world. UPS has become the largest delivery package company and
leading provider of specialized transportation and logistics services in the world.
An organization costing system is a system that helps the management with the strategy planning
while the system plays an important role in providing accurate cost information about the products
and customers (Curtin, 2006). UPS utilizes the Activity Based Costing (ABC) system. ABC assumes
that activities cause costs and that cost objects create the demand for activities (Marx, ... Show more

Data must be collected, verified and entered into the system. ABC does not conform to GAAP so a
company will need two accounting books, one for internal and one for external. The data can be
very easily misinterpreted, decision making entails identifying which costing data is relevant for
decisions on hand.
UPS system is based on traditional ABC in that it takes detailed functional cost and maps it to the
products based on the activities that the products drive (ups.com). UPS is a cross functional
discipline, in that it identifies activities within a function or process, measures the cost associated
with the activity and then assigns the cost to a product. UPS responded to technology, the market
and changing times by developing new business strategies to focus on customer needs. The new
change in the business environment demands the organizations to gather the relevant data and
information about the customers, costs, procedures, services, products and activities (Danish,
Hasan Abid, 2013). They needed a better understanding of specific segments of their business. UPS
operations are extremely complex with a wide variety of service options, operating conditions and
support activities (ups.com). UPS s ABC system is unique in that it leverages our database of work

The role of human resources is also very important in maintaining an effective health care industry.
If the managerial personnel are performing their duties effectively and efficiently in a health care
organization, the organization will automatically progress. Additionally, the organization will
provide the improved outcomes of the patient health and health care delivery as well. This is so
because human resource is also considered as one of the most important inputs to effective health
care services. Although there exists a variety of challenges in inducting qualified human resource
professionals but there is a strong need to solve this issue. (Kabene, 2006)
The challenges associated with the HRM i.e. human resource management includes the
distribution and composition of health care work force. In addition to this, the issues related to
the training of the work force are also a challenge for the human resource management. The
relocation of the health workers is also a great concern. Moreover, the degree of economic
development is also a great challenge that negatively impacts the level of performance shown by a
health care organization. These challenges must be addressed properly in order to have an effective

Snape was once a Death Eater and therefore implying his loyalty towards Lord Voldemort (Goblet
of Fire). We know very little about the early life of Snape making it easy to believe that
Voldemort and his ideologies were something Snape greatly admired, ( Snape knew more curses
when he arrived to school then half of the kids in seventh year , according to Sirius Black).
Snape had also invented a curse too, Sectumsempra (Half Blood Prince), which is rare for a
student. He demonstrated no qualms to use the word mudblood (a foul word used for the
muggle born or the impure) in the most derogatory sense (as Harry witness during his visit into
Snape s worst memory in the Order of the Phoenix). He also fancied a nickname for himself, The
Half Blood Prince, highlighting his wizarding heritage. These small facts, when taken together,
are indicative to the reasons Snape may have chosen to become a Death Eater. His words and
actions throughout the series indicate his need for power and respect, two attributes that the
wizarding world accords to the Dark Lord, which may have been the strongest reason behind his
decision to be Voldemort s follower and join the Death Eaters in his youth. Snape and Voldemort
share the same tactic of intimidation through fear. However, the power and respect accorded to
Voldemort was also accorded The Great Dumbledore. Moreover Dumbledore could offer two
things to Snape that Voldemort could not and if could would not care to due to his selfish nature,
and that is, unwavering trust and true friendship. Snape may have been Voldemort s favourite but
he shows distrust in Snape when he appoints Peter Pettigrew to be Snape s assistance in Spinners

Government Control Gun Control
The second part of reforming the Republican Party involves enacting stricter gun regulations to
decrease the amount of gun violence in the United States. The official policy from the Republican
platform believes that all law abiding citizens should have the right to own guns (2016
Republican Party Platform). However, recent mass shootings in California and Texas has called
into question on whether the regulations that are in place are enough, or if there should be tougher
background checks and restrictions on guns. The Republican Party s current stance on these
recent shootings has caused a massive backlash from the media and the public, which is resulting
in a rapid decrease in popularity. The American public is dismayed when they turn on the news
and see reports of another mass shooting causing unnecessary deaths because of gun violence and
Republican politicians are attacked on the media for not taking the necessary action of stricter gun
regulations. However, with this new stance the Republicans will now support more detailed
background checks and restrict the type of guns that can be owned by regular citizens. This will be
heavily supported by most liberal groups but disapproved by the almost all conservative groups.
Groups like the Solid Liberals, Faith and Family Left, and the Next Generation Left believe that the
government controlling gun ownership should be implemented due to the increase of mass

Although these two articles are scholarly and educational, they do differ in conditions like the
articles context, the overall purpose of the articles, and the articles exigency, or relevancy.
The scholarly article, Dressed and Groomed for Success in Elementary School Student Appearance
and Academic Adjustment is written by Caroline Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Cote Lussier, and Clancy
Blair. This scholarly, peer reviewed article is about how instructor s negative perceptions, biases,
and academic adjustments for their students can not only hinder student s potential in the
classroom, but also their outlook on schools, specifically in elementary grades.
The second scholarly article, Critical Race Theory and Whiteness of Teacher Educationis written by
Christine E. Sleeter. This article is about how teacher education can be changed by addressing the
Whiteness within it and how the targeted audience can be challenged.
Due to the fact that the articles are different, then the purposes for these articles differ. The
purpose of the first article is to see how theory and research suggest that students academic
experiences are likely to be associated with their general appearance and demeanor (Fitpatrick et
al. 32). It is to inform the audience of teachers and policy makers, on how teachers are pre judging
their students based off of their initial appearance and relating that to their competence at school.

A Brief Note On Conflict Management And Negotiation
Option 2: Exploring Negotiations Gender Tanya Schankel MGT470 Conflict Management and
Negotiation Colorado State University Global Campus Dr. Bonnie Adams February 5, 2017
Option 2: Exploring Negotiations Gender Why are women reluctant to negotiate? In a country
that values self reliance and independence, there appears to be a cultural divide between men and
women when it comes to negotiation and its practice. According to Babcock, Laschever, Gelfand,
and Small (2003), in business, women are less likely than men to negotiate for themselves and as
a result see their male coworkers earn higher salaries and receive quicker promotions. But women

Women should have a clear idea of what a win will look like and the point in which they will
stop negotiating or their resistance point. According to Lewicki, Barry, and Saunders, (2011)
good preparation is having a clear goal. For example, a 10 percent salary increase rather than I
want a raise. However, to identify this goal, one must also do research to determine the value of
the item to be negotiated. For example, when asking for a raise, women should research what
salaries others are receiving for similar work by checking the bureau of labor statistic and web sites
like glass door. Once a market value has been determined, women can have a better idea of what is a
realistic and achievable goal and then determine their opening bid and resistance point based on this
information. According to the Kellogg School of Management. (2015), women often start
negotiations with too low of an opening bid. Women s undervaluation of worth perpetuates the
cycle of never quite catching up to what men achieve. This also communicates to the other party
that women believe they deserve less. One way to combat this common pitfall is through strategic
negotiation actions. Strategic Planning Second, women must be strategic in determining if they
will negotiate; what tactics they will utilize in order to achieve a successful outcome; and how they
will handle the various negotiation styles one can encounter in a negotiation and preserve their

Personal Narrative Essay On Robert Newsom s Poem
It was a hot summer day in 1850 when I first set eyes on a man named Robert Newsom. I was
sold to him from my former master at just the age of fourteen. Newsom was an older man with
an eerie look upon his face, he looked to be in his sixties. I didn t like him, something about the
way he looked at me made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and the sick feelingin the pit of
my stomach didn t help the situation. My former master and him shook hands and nodded in my
direction as I was escorted away into Newsom s possession. The old man talked to me as I sat
beside him on the way back to his plantation, although I couldn t understand what he was saying
over the loud pitter pattering of my heart beating so fast. I was uncomfortable and scared, I didn
t know what was to become of me, these feelings only escalated as I felt the warm clench of his
hand on my upper thigh, I turned to look up at him with what I can imagine a look of horror just
before he raped me. I had only ever heard stories of women being raped by their masters but never

so I did. I pulled up my torn and ragged sleeves and proceeded to search the yard or things to

over to the fireplace and watched as it caught aflame. I sat there just staring at it for hours on end,
adding more fuel to the fire when need be. Soon the early morning came, but the bones remained
stricken of his rotten flesh so I attempted to smash them to bits upon the stone, and succeeded other
than a few big pieces which I stashed away under the floor and stone. The ashes were everywhere

Genie Case
In this film, we view the case of a child named Genie who was isolated as a child. Genie was
discovered on November 4th, 1970 at 13 years of age where she was discovered to have been
strapped to a potty chair and isolated from the world for most of her life. Throughout the film we
see the many researchers found an interest in Genie and began to investigate if she would be able
to acquire languagealthough she had passed the critical period of language development. Although,
these researchers believed that they were helping Genie and she displayed significant progress it
was clear that Genie was not able to speak proper English. She was able to enhance her vocabulary

Every new place that Genie discovered was a new world for her, this raised her curiosity and
allowed her to want to engage and interact with her new environment. As we know, as infants we
are born with almost all the neurons that we will have. In Genie s case, being strapped to a potter
chair for most of her life caused her to lose many of those synaptic connections that she was not
able to use. This process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it,
when theses connections are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The ability of the
infant s brain to change in form and function is referred to as plasticity, this is important because
although Genie was not taught as a child her brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new
environment. Through this we encounter how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her
new life and how the brain has this amazing ability that allows reorganization and the ability to
form new connections. For Genie, these connections were able to form because she now had the
chance to explore her environment, which is something she was unable to do her entire
childhood. In the beginning of the film when Genie was discovered they examined her brain
waves and found that Genie was expressed abnormal wave patterns. This is referred to as sleep
spindles, which is an indication of retardation; this raised the question of whether or not Genie was
impaired at birth or due to isolation. However, after working with her they found that she was in
deed capable of forming new synaptic connections that allowed her to learn new words and
supported the concept of brain

They took criminal matters very seriously, and their punishments were brutal enough to make one

Mexico Gender Inequality
Gender inequality is the unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. It
arises from differences in socially constructed gender roles. Throughout the world there are men
and women who seek change in society s gender infrastructure, they seek equality and justice for
both genders. In some developing nations like the countries in the Middle East, China, and India,
women are still perceived as the inferior gender; they re forced to be obedient to the opposite sex,
their basic rights are restricted and they aren t treated fairly in most cases. However, in developing

Anti Inflationary Policy Essay
Introduction
Anti inflationary policies are the policies taken by the government to announce inflation target
lowering it to zero, in the beginning of the year, which at that time is considered optimal. The
government wants to keep the inflation level low in an economy. It is the continuous rise in the
general price level of goods and services over a period of time in an economy. As we know inflation
can cause serious social consequences, if it s not perfectly anticipated, money as a measure of
value or as a medium of exchange is undermined.

It does show that lower level of inflation will be achieved by delegating monetary policy to a

However, McCallum (1995) criticised this solution of reducing inflation bias. He argued that

socially, American culture as it is known now was formed by this influx of immigrants. People

Summary Of Margret In Shakespeare s Richard III
William Shakespeare s Richard III is a political work of genius of its time, the way Shakespeare
can propagate the tutor dynasty and retell the history of his state in such a compelling way is quite
remarkable. The work centralizes itself around the inner workings of the royal court just after the
war of the roses and prior to the uprising of the tutor dynasty. The character of Richard IIIis both
protagonist and antagonist in the work, however throughout this paper, we will be commenting on
the connections found between the character of Margaret and certain themes in the production.
More specifically, how she is used as a device in conveying the themes of Corruption, the
implementation of the Supernatural, and the anger and rage found in her (and others) text.
To properly comment on the character of Margret found in the works of William Shakespeare(and
the themes she aids in conveying) one must first completely comprehend the history of the true
Margret of Anjou. Understanding a short history of the character s origins will aid in the discussion.
A History
Born March 23rd, 1430 Margret of Anjou lived a considerably quiet life with her aristocratic
family in France until the age of 12, the age to marry. As most young womanof that age, Margrett
was then used as a political tool by her father, The Duke Rene. The bidding and marrying of

The Need for Groundwater Extraction Regulation
Groundwater is used primarily for irrigating farmland; and secondarily, for consumption and
industrial use. Aquifers, unconsolidated subterranean layers which hold water, are rapidly
dwindling, and groundwater depletion is quickly growing to become a major problem for
farmers and the public at large. Reserves close to ground level are rapidly drying up and due to
technological roadblocks, extracting water from deeper reserves is not yet financially feasible.
The problem is especially severe in California, which represents around 20% of all groundwater
withdrawal in the United States (Famiglietti, LA Times). A lack of water for agriculture would
directly lead to diminished food production and indirectly lead to requiring food imports from
outside the state. Groundwater resources are an unregulated public resource and despite any
innovative breakthrough in extraction techniques, the only sustainable, long term solution is to
enforce limits on extraction. Regulation of how much groundwater can be extracted from an aquifer
in a set period of time; along with incentives to obtain water from alternative sources is the ideal
solution to address the perennially growing challenge of groundwater depletion in California.
This regulatory effort must begin in politics but it needs to spread to society as well only when
people realize the consequences of over extraction will they even consider ceasing doing so. This
solution is not based primarily in science and technology, and is

Argumentative Essay On Beach Erosion
Every year millions of dollars of state and federal dollars are spent to essentially place tons of
sand on America s beaches. This process known as beach nourishment. Proponents often point to
this method as effective way is a way to fight against beach erosion The causes of this erosion are
both manmade and natural, but regardless of the cause this process is only a stop gap that does not
actually address this issue. Instead, both the federal and state governments have spent billions of
dollars over the last few decades to fight the process of erosion with unintended consequences for
both the environment and citizens.
In New Jersey alone state, local and federal agencies have spent 1.2 billion dollars over the last
thirty years to dump 120 million cubic yards of sand over the state s coastline. This high price tag
is in part due to the fact that the sand that is placed on the coastline quickly erodes and a new
project must be undertaken. In fact, sand used to nourish beaches erodes at a rate that is often two
to three times faster than natural sand. This creates a cycle in which beaches are constantly needing
to be renourished and does nothing to actually prevent the process of erosion. ... Show more content

Steve Ellis, the vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, said that roughly 65 percent of the
cost of beach nourishment programs is paid by the federal government and then 50 to 65 percent of

having to foot the bill of a federal activity, which has benefits the tourism industry and beach front

Fortunato s Motto On The Coat Of Arms
The motto on the Coat of Arms is the Latin phrase, Nemo me impune lacessit, meaning, Nobody
offended me with impunity. During the description, we feel the sad prediction of what is going to
happen. It is as if the tormentor had coldly and in an inquiring way, pronounced an irreversible
death sentence for his hated enemy. Along the gloomy and huge corridors, Fortunato reveals his
Masonic membership with a grotesque gesture. The narrator also confesses to being a member of
the secret society and shows a trowel, a common tool in Masonic iconography. But, once more,
Fortunato mocks the discovery and withdraws, as if he had seen a weapon. Arriving at the remote
and hidden recesses of the catacomb, Montresor deceives Fortunato to enter the crypt

The Perestroika Reform And Glasnost Policy Programs
Under Mikhail Gorbachev the Soviet Union underwent massive social, political and economic
reform that drifted away from communist ideology and this ultimately lead to the collapse of the
Soviet Union and failure of communism in Eastern Europe. This essay will focus on how the
Perestroika reform and Glasnost policy programs as well as other external and internal pressures
contributed to the failure of communismunder Gorbachev. The aim of the Perestroika and Glasnost
reforms was to restructure and strengthen the Soviet political and economic system and provide
more freedom and democracy within the Soviet Unionwhile strengthening Communism. However,
these changes had achieved exactly what they aimed to prevent when they were first elaborated
and led to the failure of communism and collapse of the Soviet Union. While focusing on the
policies this essay will also focus on the major increase in nationalism that occurred in the Soviet
Republics as a result of the Glasnost. External pressure from the western world was also a factor
and the role that the United States and the Ronald Reagan administration played in the downfall of
communism under Gorbachev will be examined. The essay will also discuss how the
disintegration of Yugoslavia and the 1991 Coup d Г©tat led to the failure of the policies and failure
of communism.
Perestroika translates to restructuring and was a policy introduced by Gorbachev which intended to
reform the baseline of the Soviet economy in an attempt to

In that classic old movie, Papillon, starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, there is a
particular phrase that stays in my mind. It occurs when McQueen, playing Papillon, is in solitary
confinement and is obviously on the point of dying. He goes into a sort of coma and starts seeing
friends of his who are now dead. Then an authoritarian sounding voice says, I accuse you of a
wasted life. It is on this subject that I write this particular essay.
Many of us of heard of Abraham Maslow s Pyramid of Human Needs. We know a little about the
basic needs of food, shelter, et cetera. We know of feelings of belonging and self esteem. We also
know of self actualization, though there is often confusion between self actualization and self
realization. So I d like to explain a little about the difference here.
Self Actualization
Self actualization refers to becoming as much as we can in the practical pragmatic scheme of
affairs. It refers to developing our talents, our skills, in educating ourselves to the best of our
ability, being the best we

Entertainment During The Puritan Period
During the Puritan period, any form of entertainment was banned and there was little fun to be had.
Nowadays, an overflow of entertainment is available whether it be books, movies, games, or even
news. Although entertainment is fun and loved by many, it has the potential to ruin modern
society. Children are avid followers of entertainment, but they don t realize the harm it brings to
them. Since children are impressionable, they are easily influenced by other sources and
entertainment becomes a big part of their lives. They attempt to imitate stunts seen on T.V. and are
desensitized by the multiple accidents in shows. Kids could start to believe that they can be the
same as the characters. For example, a child who watches Neverland might believe

Research Paper On Brown Dwarfs
The life and death of a star is both interesting and complicated. The formation of a star might not
be as simple as you think. Some stars actually fail to form big enough to ever be seen. You might
also believe that a star will shine forever. However, stars can also lose their energy, causing them
to become other types of formations. Stars can be complex anomalies that can end up in several
forms including neutron stars, brown dwarfs, and white dwarfs. Starformation is a rather simple
process. Gasses in space clump together with dust and rock. Over millions of years these materials
begin to form small orbs. Eventually it the clump will get big enough to create gravity. The core
will become hot from the constant pressure and will use hydrogen to make helium using nuclear
fusion. This fusions creates a tremendous amount of energy creating a fiery ball in space.... Show

A brown dwarf forms when a star fails to form. This is why brown dwarfs are often referred to as
failed stars . When a star is forming it has to create enough fusion to generate enough energy.
Brown dwarfs do not get large enough to be able to sustain nuclear fusion. These dwarfs are
called brown because even though they do not shine brightly they still have little heat in their
core to give it a small glow. After a brown dwarf has formed it will star in space with its glow of
millions of years. White dwarfs are an effect of small star deaths. White dwarfs form when a star
runs out of hydrogen to create energy with using nuclear fusion. The star s gravity takes over
due to no energy pushing back. The star then becomes extremely dense forcing atoms together.
The hot ball is then left in space to cool over billions of years. No known white dwarf has ever
cooled because the universe is only 13.7 billion years old and some of the first white dwarfs are
still thousands of degrees

Medieval European Inventions
Inventions in Medieval Europe
Magnetic compass:
A magnetic compass has a magnetised needle, that is generally in line with magnetic poles of the
Earth, and is used to help people navigate.
The magnetic compass provided medieval Europe with many benefits, and changed how people
navigated. One benefit the compass offered was the opportunity to travel more often. People would
no longer have to rely on on nature or seasonal navigation techniques, such as migrating birds and
the tide. Exploring new parts of the world was made easier too, as explorers of the world wouldn t
have to rely on inaccurate signs like dead fish and seaweed to navigate, and wouldn t get lost as
easily.

Printing Press:
The printing press, invented by Johann Gutenberg, had a significant impact in Medieval Europe. It
drastically cut the cost of producing printed materials, including books, and made copying easier.
Before the invention of the printing press, to make multiple copies of books, people (most often
monks,) would have to laboriously copy the text by hand. This was a very time consuming and
costly manner, as the monks would commonly write on vellum (treated skins.)
The printing press made copying text incredibly faster and much cheaper. Gutenberg s printing
press meant more access to information, more dissent, more informed discussion and more
widespread criticism of authorities, observes the British Library.
With his press, the first books that Gutenberg printed, were copies of the bible, all 200 copies
selling before the printing was complete! During the European Reformation, ideas associated with
the new Protestant faith were popularised, due to the printing press.

This Political Study Will Define The Reemergence Of...
This political study will define the reemergence of nationalism due to the failed economic
policies of globalization in the Brexit EU Vote. The Brexit Vote defines the lack of economic
security promised by the European Union, which had dominated much of Britain s global
objectives in the world economy. However, the problematic banking issues of the European
Central bank (ECB) and the bankruptcy of certain nation states, such as Ireland, Greece, and
Portugal, have inspired a new nationalist movement in England to leave the EU. The Brexit Vote,
held on June 23rd, 2016, defined a powerful collective process in which 51.9% of the votes
decided to lave the EU. This decision was primarily based on reclaiming British nationalism to

These political trends reveal the underlying trend in nationalism as part of the growing problem of
economic inequality, which was devastating the British economy for the greater masses of working
people. The lack of resolution for the economic recession brought about a public reaction to policies
related to nationalistic objectives, which were dominated by populist sentiment: At a time when so
many Europeans are faced with unemployment, uncertainty and growing inequality (200). Certainly,
the vote for Brexit defines the underlying re reemergence of nationalism as a political option in the
opposition of failed EU economic policies.
The Brexit Vote also defined a complex new set of nationalist principles, which were based on the
turning back the clock of racial identity in the pre EU global order. For instance, the re emergence
of nationalism was also being defined by a the Anglo Saxon purity of cultural and racial traditions,
which undermined the tensions behind the Brexit Vote. In this manner, the perception of job losses
in England also exacerbated racial tensions in relation to the immigration crisis across Europe.
Many British citizens felt that a lack of regulatory process in EU immigration policy threatened
their job security due to the lower wages being paid for immigrant worker:
But others suggest it was really a cultural divide that was revealed, rather than an economic one.

Northup On Slavery
Black slaves were in the situation that little help would be given to the group from the society. As
Northup s thought when he first beat his master, An unfriended, helpless slave what could I do,
what could I say, to justify, in the remotest manner, the heinous act I had committed, of resenting a
white man s contumely and abuse (112). No one would help him even though what he did was fight
back for his unequal treatment. It seemed that slaves was born to be treated like this; they should
only obey their masters; they should take whatever the white gave; they should not complain about
anything. There was not right or wrong, but only what the white said and what the black obeyed.
Northup wrote helplessly:

The system of slave occurred in South instead of North mostly because of the planation
economy in the South. To support the slavery system, slavery holders used religions belief to
explain their misdeed. For instance, Mr. Tanner read Bible to his slaves, and emphasized the
sentence that servant which knew his lord s will, and prepared not himself, prepared not
himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes (128). He used Bible
to back up the idea that slaves have to obey their masters, or they would face severe punishment.
In fact, there is nothing wrong with the Bible or Christianity. However, because of the slavery
system, religions have been used in wrong way that violate human s right. When southerners
believed the righteous of slavery, they would keep digging authoritative sources in order to protect
it. With time went by, slavery penetrated in people s mind and no one step forward to doubt it. In
Northup s point of view, the wrong idea of slavery were more like a culture influence in the South
rather than the choice of individual southerners. Just as what he wrote in the

Introduction The geopolitics in Eurasia along with the implications of energy security as well as the
risks and opportunities it creates for the U.S. is understood when the layers of conflict and

concepts based on energy, politics, security pipelines in Eurasia, international transit integration,
and the energy world order, can the conceptual argument be made that natural resources are
temporary allocations and not solutions to energy or security. The research and material covered

The U.S. has established military bases that are positioned closed to areas with resources, such as
oil fields. Additionally, the occupation of Afghanistan is another strategy in energy security, where
the U.S. felt threatened and has established military bases. It is ideally situated in the Middle East,
and it is bordering many neighboring populations that serve the interests of the American global
quests for energy security within the context of geopolitical, economic, and environmental
challenges that it has been debating since the 1970 s oil crisis (Pascual, Elkind, 2010, p.1). Areas of
interest next to Iraq are Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Iran. Additionally, Afghanistan borders Iran and
Pakistan. These areas of conflict and political conversation make the move of the U.S. an
opportunity to expand their energy security. These governments cannot find the strength to keep
order in their regions; thus, the U.S. gains from their chaos or it may have negative implications as
these regions may grow tired of the U.S. intervening in their once sovereign lands. The approach to
uncovering the evidence of geopolitics in Eurasia in regards to energy and security includes the
effects of western influence on communication through negations. These actions take place as a
result of energy trends, international politics, and how they are interconnected through energy uses
that affect the structure of international systems, which are some of the theoretical and empirical

The Concept Of Critical Care Nursing
The concept of critical care nursing has transformed intensely since its origin in the 1960 s. The
discipline of nursing and the specialty of critical care nursing are expected to advance and
transform, just the way health care delivery system has reformed over the last few decades
(Morton Fontaine, 2013). Never before have there been significant advancements in technology,
surgeries, therapies, imaging alternatives, diverse procedures, pharmacology and innovative
research modalities being delivered to patients (World Health Organization, 2009). As a result,
critical care nurses are being challenged to explore their knowledge in order to integrate these
sophisticated technologies and interventions to deliver competent, evidence based and holistic
care to critically ill patients (Morton Fontaine, 2013). The aim of this written assignment is to
present an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) case of Diltiazem Overdose (Deliberate self Harm) who
was admitted in a large metropolitan hospital in New Zealand (NZ). Care provided to Mr. Jack

Abstract:
The essay examines evolution of popular music, experiences and how the public understood it
between 1918 and 1939. During this period, a national culture dance was developed in England.
Evolution process was marked with transformation of popular dance forms, affordable and easily
dances places and a national wide dancing practice. Evolvement of a dance culture was instrumental
in creation of a national identity. People understood what it meant to be British. There was an
English style of ballroom dancing, thematic content such as the popular Lambeth walk. To reduce
American influence on English music, British ballroom dancers tried to create British music free
of American influence. Through adaptation of different dancing styles, they presented what they
believed to be the real British identity. Introduction: In the words of Victor Sylvester, ballroom
dancing was an activity which could not be cut off or separated from the world; it was an activity
which was influenced by surrounding occurrences. Change in occasions such as fashion, war music
and social upheavals all played an important role in influencing the dancing scene. He observed that
external forces influenced performance as well as evolution of dancing (Sylvester, 1927). Rather
than concentrating how dancing was influenced by occurrences such as war or change of fashion,

Conflict Is An Inevitable Element Of Life We All Go Through
Conflict is an inevitable element of life; we all go through conflict in every ramification of our

can be defined as an expressed struggle between two or more interdependent parties who perceive
incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from others in achieving their goals (Wilmot

disagreement to outright war between two parties. In this paper, I will analyze my conflict situation

At the meeting the next Monday, one item at the agenda was to give constructive feedback about
the event and all we got from Priscila was outright negative feedbacks ranging from the setup to the
duties assigned. After that meeting she started giving an attitude to all the executives and also
giving excuses for not coming to the council s weekly meetings. After many weeks of negative
attitudes and excuses, she resigned from her executive position and sent an email to the co chairs to
affect that change.
The issue within this conflict is based on the question of who should welcome the audience to the
event. I wanted to welcome the audience to the event because I had been assigned that duty as
agreed upon in the previous meeting while Priscila wanted to do the welcome or introductions
because it fit into her duty as moderator. Interpersonal conflict arises either because people want
different things or they want the same things. With regards to my conflict with Priscila, we both
wanted to assume the position of welcoming people to the event. Priscila and I belong to the same
student advisory council where we volunteer our time as council executives. In this conflict,
Priscila wanted her opinions to be respected while I wanted the notions addressed within the
minutes to be adhered to without stepping on another person s toe. Within this conflict, I wanted to

Paragraph 1: father s struggle with morality CD1: fell back instantly and lay with blood bubbling from a hole in his head, CD2: the boy crying and looking back at the nude and slatlike creature standing there in the road and shivering and hugging himself Paragraph 2: boy s compassion CD1: carrying the fire CD2: I don t want the gun. As the man faces choosing lesser evils in order to survive, he compliments the goodness found in his son, who instead of basing his actions off his own survival, he bases them off his innocent desire to be and do good, as he asks his father on several occasions after partaking in questionable acts if they are still carrying the fire. While his father is preoccupied with survival, he is focused on helping those survivors he sees around him in a naive hope to be the good guy. At one point, his father thinks death is right around the corner and tells his son to take the gun, but his son refuses saying, I don t want the gun, (70.5 6). The boy only associates the gun with its ability to take life away, excluding the protection it gives him and his father, which in his eyes makes the gun a symbol of evil and destruction; something he wishes to be separate from. However, the boy takes the gun anyways, finally realizing that its evil is necessary in order to survive, so that he may continue to carry the fire of the good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To survive this atrocity, the Holocaust victims man upon man atrocity, one had to summon bravery, strength, courage, and wisdom that many did not know they possessed. One survivor is Elie Wiesel, whose exquisite writings have revealed the world of horror suffered by the Jewish people. Elie Wiesel s statement, ...to remain silent and indifferent is the greatest sin of all... stands as a succinct summary of his views on life and serves as the driving force of his work. Each one had to go up to the hole and present his neck. Babies were thrown into the air and the machine gunners used them as targets. This was in the forest of Galicia, near Kolomaye. How had Moche the Beadle escaped? Miraculously. He was wounded in the leg and taken for dead. ... Throughout Europe, similar horrific tales of slaughter and abuse began to surface as Adolf Hitler became more successful and aggressive in his quest to create a purely Aryan nation. Another, considerably more violent phase of anti Jewish activity took place in 1938 and 1939; it was initiated on November 9 10, 1938, the infamous Kristallnacht, or night of shattered glass. Passports were still being issued for Jews to travel to Palestine; however, many elders refused to leave. The task of starting over in a foreign land proved to be overwhelming, and no one believed these conditions would intensify nor continue. As long as the Jews did not cause trouble, they were left to manage themselves with minimal daily interference from the soldiers. As the war in the outside world escalated, their world started to disintegrate. E Pluribus Unum out of many United States, one nation; the United Stateswas forged in the cauldron of these revolutions. quot; Arnold Toynbee, A Study of History The above statement is one that seems to be very true when looking back upon the history of the United States. The Granger Movement, the Greenback Movement, and the Silver Movement were also very influential in the shaping of present day America. But one of the most important movements in American history is the business movement, although the rise of business during this time is not called a movement, I feel that calling it a movement is appropriate. The rise of business and corporations is very significant because it shaped the American economy and helped lead America to become so successful. Corporations helped put capital into the economy and promote trade with other countries, thus strengthening diplomacy. Big businesses and corporations also provide employment. A major disadvantage of corporations is the possibility of a monopoly forming. This would hurt other small businesses as well as the economy. Influential leaders of the business movement are Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan, Armour, Hill, and Vanderbilt. There is always an intangible boundary between the ruling class and the working class. All the members of two classes are well educated that they have to act as their role, and none of them are allowed to violate the border between two classes. This idea is formed and maintained by the ideological state apparatuses, particularly by family and school, in raising children and forming society. I feel an experienced accountant that had worked in the food service industry would have been able to advise them that they did not need to budget on a yearly sales forecast that was divided by 52 weeks in the year. This shows poor budgeting skills because they are trying to obtain a heavy student mix and the students are not in the area for the entire year. Financial forecasting is such an integral part of any successful start up business and there are major issues with the way it has been done. I would also look at the existing data from sales to see if the original market segmentation has followed through to the actual sales numbers. There are likely several ways I have been miseducated, some of which I may not even be aware of yet. I have long understood that education can happen outside a classroom. In fact many valuable life lessons were learned just going about day to day activities. Some of the best learnings have come from raising a child, experiencing and enduring tragedy and of course family has provided positive and negative lessons. Deep budget cuts on the art education at the benefit of mathematics and reading has long lasting effects on schools that do so. In 2007, the school was sold to Meritas Family of Schools and within the subsequent seven years changed its strategy to one with international interests. Other changes in the school were not so positive and included an increased lack of transparency with parents and teachers, which resulted in a gradual disconnect with the community leading to anger and distrust on the part of parents. This is not a horizontal organization that is becoming more and more common in today s business world. The teacher subsystem should be changed into an adaptive organization or organic design (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). In the adaptive design, authority would be decentralized, with fewer rules and procedures, wide spans of control, shared tasks, more teams and task forces, and more informal and personal coordination (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). The planned change would result in improved interpersonal connection with students, their parents, and other teachers. Administrators, while serving an important function would not be the focus. If the managerial personnel are performing their duties effectively and efficiently in a health care organization, the organization will automatically progress. Additionally, the organization will provide the improved outcomes of the patient health and health care delivery as well. This is so because human resource is also considered as one of the most important inputs to effective health care services. Although there exists a variety of challenges in inducting qualified human resource professionals but there is a strong need to solve this issue. (Kabene, 2006) The challenges associated with the HRM i.e. human resource management includes the distribution and composition of health care work force. In addition to this, the issues related to the training of the work force are also a challenge for the human resource management. The relocation of the health workers is also a great concern. Just like our series hero Harry Potter, Snape was raised in the Muggle (non wizard people) setting till the age of eleven when he received his letter of admission into Hogwarts, school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We know very little about the early life of Snape making it easy to believe that Voldemort and his ideologies were something Snape greatly admired, ( Snape knew more curses when he arrived to school then half of the kids in seventh year , according to Sirius Black). Snape had also invented a curse too, Sectumsempra (Half Blood Prince), which is rare for a student. He demonstrated no qualms to use the word mudblood (a foul word used for the muggle born or the impure) in the most derogatory sense (as Harry witness during his visit into Snape s worst memory in the Order of the Phoenix). He also fancied a nickname for himself, The Half Blood Prince, highlighting his wizarding heritage. These small facts, when taken together, are indicative to the reasons Snape may have chosen to become a Death Eater. His words and actions throughout the series indicate his need for power and respect, two attributes that the wizarding world accords to the Dark Lord, which may have been the strongest reason behind his decision to be Voldemort s follower and join the Death Eaters in his youth. Snape and Voldemort share the same tactic of intimidation through fear. However, the power and respect accorded to Voldemort was also accorded The Great Dumbledore. Moreover Dumbledore could offer two things to Snape that Voldemort could not and if could would not care to due to his selfish nature, and that is, unwavering trust and true friendship. Snape may have been Voldemort s favourite but he shows distrust in Snape when he appoints Peter Pettigrew to be Snape s assistance in Spinners End (The Half Blood Prince). The American public is dismayed when they turn on the news and see reports of another mass shooting causing unnecessary deaths because of gun violence and Republican politicians are attacked on the media for not taking the necessary action of stricter gun regulations. In a country that values self reliance and independence, there appears to be a cultural divide between men and women when it comes to negotiation and its practice. According to Babcock, Laschever, Gelfand, and Small (2003), in business, women are less likely than men to negotiate for themselves and as a result see their male coworkers earn higher salaries and receive quicker promotions. Women should have a clear idea of what a win will look like and the point in which they will stop negotiating or their resistance point. According to Lewicki, Barry, and Saunders, (2011) good preparation is having a clear goal. For example, a 10 percent salary increase rather than I want a raise. However, to identify this goal, one must also do research to determine the value of the item to be negotiated. For example, when asking for a raise, women should research what salaries others are receiving for similar work by checking the bureau of labor statistic and web sites like glass door. Once a market value has been determined, women can have a better idea of what is a realistic and achievable goal and then determine their opening bid and resistance point based on this information. According to the Kellogg School of Management. (2015), women often start negotiations with too low of an opening bid. Women s undervaluation of worth perpetuates the cycle of never quite catching up to what men achieve. This also communicates to the other party that women believe they deserve less. One way to combat this common pitfall is through strategic negotiation actions. As we know, as infants we are born with almost all the neurons that we will have. In Genie s case, being strapped to a potter chair for most of her life caused her to lose many of those synaptic connections that she was not able to use. This process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it, when theses connections are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The ability of the infant s brain to change in form and function is referred to as plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a child her brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Through this we encounter how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her new life and how the brain has this amazing ability that allows reorganization and the ability to form new connections. For Genie, these connections were able to form because she now had the chance to explore her environment, which is something she was unable to do her entire childhood. In the beginning of the film when Genie was discovered they examined her brain waves and found that Genie was expressed abnormal wave patterns. How Immigration Changed America Grace MacCallum Period A FAA USH Mr Picillo Gilded Age Research How Immigration Changed America Post Civil War During the late 1800s, inhabitants from all parts of the world made the decision to leave their jobs and homes to immigrate to the United States. They fled rising taxes, famine, crop failure, land and job shortages, to come to the United States. Perceived to be one of the greater countries for economic opportunity, many sought freedom from religious and political persecution. Around twelve million immigrants arrived in the United States between 1870 and 1900. Before the Civil War, the majority of immigrants were from Germany, Ireland, and England. Economically, they filled a significant need for cheap labor in booming American industries. The large numbers of immigrants helped keep labor cost down for Big Business and different groups were often put against each other in competition for the cheapest workers. Politically, different immigrant groups became active members of various labor organizations and unions, pushing to change pro business laws and establish regulations governing working conditions and wages. And socially, American culture as it is known now was formed by this influx of immigrants. People from all over the planet brought with them not only their labor but also their cultures, helping to contribute to the mosaic that is the American way of life. These immigrants, as shown by the prejudice and discrimination directed towards them, were not always welcome. In economic hard times, immigrants were blamed for job shortages and family hardships, used as scapegoats for larger problems. Nativist movements were directed against the Chinese, Japanese, Italians, and others, especially during the 1880s and 90s. As evidenced by the Chinese Exclusion Act and later legislation that limited immigration from Japan and other regions, this anti immigrant sentiment went as high up as the nation s capital. This history was simply a repeat of the nativism and hatred directed against the Irish and Germans of the 1840s and 1850s and is similar to that experienced in America today by immigrants from Mexico and Latin America. Summary Of Margret In Shakespeare s Richard III William Shakespeare s Richard III is a political work of genius of its time, the way Shakespeare can propagate the tutor dynasty and retell the history of his state in such a compelling way is quite remarkable. The work centralizes itself around the inner workings of the royal court just after the war of the roses and prior to the uprising of the tutor dynasty. The character of Richard IIIis both protagonist and antagonist in the work, however throughout this paper, we will be commenting on the connections found between the character of Margaret and certain themes in the production. More specifically, how she is used as a device in conveying the themes of Corruption, the implementation of the Supernatural, and the anger and rage found in her (and others) text. To properly comment on the character of Margret found in the works of William Shakespeare(and the themes she aids in conveying) one must first completely comprehend the history of the true Margret of Anjou. Understanding a short history of the character s origins will aid in the discussion. • 38. The Need for Groundwater Extraction Regulation Groundwater is used primarily for irrigating farmland; and secondarily, for consumption and industrial use. Aquifers, unconsolidated subterranean layers which hold water, are rapidly dwindling, and groundwater depletion is quickly growing to become a major problem for farmers and the public at large. Reserves close to ground level are rapidly drying up and due to technological roadblocks, extracting water from deeper reserves is not yet financially feasible. The problem is especially severe in California, which represents around 20% of all groundwater withdrawal in the United States (Famiglietti, LA Times). A lack of water for agriculture would directly lead to diminished food production and indirectly lead to requiring food imports from outside the state. Groundwater resources are an unregulated public resource and despite any innovative breakthrough in extraction techniques, the only sustainable, long term solution is to enforce limits on extraction. Regulation of how much groundwater can be extracted from an aquifer in a set period of time; along with incentives to obtain water from alternative sources is the ideal solution to address the perennially growing challenge of groundwater depletion in California. This regulatory effort must begin in politics but it needs to spread to society as well only when people realize the consequences of over extraction will they even consider ceasing doing so. This process known as beach nourishment. Proponents often point to this method as effective way is a way to fight against beach erosion The causes of this erosion are both manmade and natural, but regardless of the cause this process is only a stop gap that does not actually address this issue. Instead, both the federal and state governments have spent billions of dollars over the last few decades to fight the process of erosion with unintended consequences for both the environment and citizens. In New Jersey alone state, local and federal agencies have spent 1.2 billion dollars over the last thirty years to dump 120 million cubic yards of sand over the state s coastline. This high price tag is in part due to the fact that the sand that is placed on the coastline quickly erodes and a new project must be undertaken. This essay will focus on how the Perestroika reform and Glasnost policy programs as well as other external and internal pressures contributed to the failure of communismunder Gorbachev. The aim of the Perestroika and Glasnost reforms was to restructure and strengthen the Soviet political and economic system and provide more freedom and democracy within the Soviet Unionwhile strengthening Communism. However, these changes had achieved exactly what they aimed to prevent when they were first elaborated and led to the failure of communism and collapse of the Soviet Union. While focusing on the policies this essay will also focus on the major increase in nationalism that occurred in the Soviet Republics as a result of the Glasnost. External pressure from the western world was also a factor and the role that the United States and the Ronald Reagan administration played in the downfall of communism under Gorbachev will be examined. Some stars actually fail to form big enough to ever be seen. You might also believe that a star will shine forever. However, stars can also lose their energy, causing them to become other types of formations. Stars can be complex anomalies that can end up in several forms including neutron stars, brown dwarfs, and white dwarfs. Starformation is a rather simple process. Gasses in space clump together with dust and rock. Over millions of years these materials begin to form small orbs. Eventually it the clump will get big enough to create gravity. The core will become hot from the constant pressure and will use hydrogen to make helium using nuclear fusion. This fusions creates a tremendous amount of energy creating a fiery ball in space.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A brown dwarf forms when a star fails to form. This is why brown dwarfs are often referred to as failed stars . When a star is forming it has to create enough fusion to generate enough energy. Brown dwarfs do not get large enough to be able to sustain nuclear fusion. These dwarfs are called brown because even though they do not shine brightly they still have little heat in their core to give it a small glow. After a brown dwarf has formed it will star in space with its glow of millions of years. White dwarfs are an effect of small star deaths. White dwarfs form when a star runs out of hydrogen to create energy with using nuclear fusion. The star s gravity takes over due to no energy pushing back. The star then becomes extremely dense forcing atoms together. The hot ball is then left in space to cool over billions of years. No known white dwarf has ever cooled because the universe is only 13.7 billion years old and some of the first white dwarfs are still thousands of degrees ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before the invention of the printing press, to make multiple copies of books, people (most often monks,) would have to laboriously copy the text by hand. This was a very time consuming and costly manner, as the monks would commonly write on vellum (treated skins.) The printing press made copying text incredibly faster and much cheaper.
