Healthcare Organization Emergency Room over Utilization
Emergency room over utilization is one of the leading causes of today s ever increasing healthcare
costs. The majority of the patients seen in emergency rooms across the nation are Medicaid
recipients, for non emergent reasons. The federal government initiated Medicaid Managed Care
programs to offer better healthcare delivery, adequately compensate providers and reduce
healthcare costs. Has MedicaidManaged Careaddressed the issues and solved the problem? The
answer is Yes and No .
Throughout the early 1980 s and 1990 s the Federal Medicaid program was challenged by rapidly
rising Medicaid program costs and an increasing number of uninsured population. One of the
primary reasons for the overall increase in healthcare costs is the over ... Show more content on

As enrollment increased emergency room over utilization for non emergent reasons decreased. The
new Medicaid Managed Care population was being educated on the Gate Keeper concept; the idea
of having a primary care physician. A large primary care pediatric practice launched an Emergency
Room diversion pilot program and conducted a study of Medicaid recipients, 18 years and
younger . (2) 17,382 children were enrolled in an enhanced access group (intervention group)
and 26,066 received services from other local primary care providers (control group). (2) The
twelve month study results showed that the average per member per month cost of emergency
room utilization of the intervention group was $1.36 less than the controlled group. There was
no significant difference in terms of per visit cost related to emergency room usage. Although
the overall cost of healthcare delivery has not increased the enrollment in traditional Medicaid
fee for service product has increased and surpassed Medicaid managed care enrollment in the
past six years. This recent change in the market place is of particular concern. The idea of losing
what has been gained such as, guaranteed access to providers, improved care management
attributed to primary care provider healthcare delivery and the ability to monitor insurance carrier
performance motivated State Medicaid agencies to devise a response on how to handle this current
issue. Because managed care has delivered a value to Medicaid

Associate Justice Antonin Scalia
When Associate Justice Antonin Scalia perished in Texas from natural causes, the focus was on the
storm of controversy that was sparked by the now vacant space on the highest court in the nation,
rather than the great tragedy of an honorable and long serving government official passing away.
While this does paint a sorry picture of our nation s focus on who has the power rather than
individual s happiness, the altercation caused by the urgent, important, and pressing question of
who should appoint the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and who the next Associate
Justice should by is in many ways essential to what our country s main policies become in the next
fifty years. Mitch McConnell (R KY), the senate majority leader and thus

Banff National Park Research Paper
Banff National Park Overview
After an easy hike to the top of Tunnel Mountain just outside Banff townsite, I take a deep breath
of the fresh pine scented air that rushes past on a brisk westerly. From the summit, I overlook the
turquoise bends of the Bow River, and see the peaks that are synonyms water with the park rise
abruptly from the valley on all sides. From my vantage point, the bustling community of Banff is
revealed as but a tiny square in the vast and varied quilt of Canada s Banff National Park.
Over 100 years ago, in 1896, American explorer Walter Wilcox wrote that this spot was the best
place from which to get a good general idea of Banff and its surroundings. Wilcox knew he made

the beauty and the wildness that are at the core of the eternal appeal of Banff National Park. The
hike serves as a gentle introduction to this wilderness gem, Canada s first national park, established
in 1885.
Banff Appeal
Well, for a start, all that open space. Over four million outdoor enthusiasts visit Banff National
Park each year, but you would not know it. With 7,000 square kilometers of rugged Rockies
topography, there is lots of room to roam. The park protects a cornucopia of landscapes: iconic
peaks like Cascade Mountain and Mount Victoria, deep lakes fed by vast icefields, rushing rivers,
forest filled valleys, and flower bedecked alpine meadows.
Among the wildlife are such totemic creatures as grizzly bears, wolves, moose, elk, and mountain
goats. Then of course there are the activities visitors can enjoy. Banff s varied terrain attracts the
whole spectrum of outdoor enthusiasts, from day hikers to backpackers, sport climbers to alpine
mountaineers, flatwater paddlers to extreme kayakers. Plus there s lots of opportunity for pursuits

Canada s Production, Distribution, And Energy Resources...
Canada s production, distribution, and use of energy resources, such as oil and natural gas had been
undergoing long history of development that still persists until today. The industrialization of the
sixties, and market oriented economy of today initiated heavy reliance on natural resources
extraction across the country, whether it is oil and gas, nuclear power, or timber production.
Digging deeper, Canada is dependent on oil and gas production, with oil sands making up 90% of
Canada s reserves that are mainly concentrated in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin as well as
well as in the Pacific Morgan Sedimentary Basin, that stretch along Yukon, Northwest Territories,
British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan (National Energy Board, 2014). Alberta appoints
majority of oil sands production at the national level, then it is exported to the international market,
mainly to the US, utilizing pipelines as modes of transportation. Needless to say, that the
exploitation of oil and gas created polarizing relationships between the economy and the
environment at the municipal, provincial, and national levels. The phenomenon of the oil and gas
production in Canada plays into environmental concerns of Climate Change in terms of greenhouse
gasemissions, violations of First Nations land rights, vulnerability on an international market, and
long term ecological consequences, such as air and water pollution, oil spills and leaks, and etc.,
over economic benefits.

information in order to facilitate strategic decisions. The article, The Role of Finance in the

The first step of the strategic planning process is the vision statement, which is a broad statement
about the company s value, purposes, and future direction. The mission statement conveys eight key
components about the firm, including target customers and markets, products and services,
geographic domain, etc. The article states, The finance component is represented by the company s
commitment to survival, growth, and profitability (Kono Barnes). The long term financial goals
represent the firm s commitment to a strategy. The analysis is the third step and comprises of the
firm s business trends, external opportunities, internal resources, and core competencies. Porter s
five forces model, industry evolution model, value chain analysis, and a SWOT analysis can be
used within the analysis step. The next step is strategy formulation, which can be done using Porter
s generic strategies model to help the firm aim for one of the competitive advantages. Lastly, is the
strategic implementation and management step, where the balanced scorecard (BSC) has become
the most effective management instruments used to implement and monitor strategy execution and
align the strategy with expected performance. The BSC stresses the importance of establishing
financial goals for a firms employees, functional areas, and business units by translating the strategy
into objectives, operational actions, and financial goals by focusing on financial factors,

The Similarities And Differences Of Confucius And Sima Qian
One can infer from the two given sources that there are two main figures: Confucius, a Zhou
philosopher and Sima Qian, a Han Historian. Both of them had various depictions of the non
Chinese peoples in their respective eras. So, what are the points of comparison in which we can
uncover the similarities and differences of these depictions? The essay will seek to answer the
question by first discussing the different depictions of the non Chinese peoples by both Confucius
and Sima Qian based on the definition of the term non Chinese and the extent of threats, the attitude
towards the non Chinese peoples, their strengths, and the idea of assimilation. The similarities will
later be explored through the concept of archery and the concept of profit and individualism. Lastly,
the degree of difference will be discussed in the concluding paragraph.
Firstly, both sources depict non Chinese peoples as Barbarians . However, each source has a
different focus: a general definition or a specific one. This could be due to the different extent of
their threats in the Zhou and Han Dynasty. In the Analects of Confucius, Confucius briefly
mentioned about the non Chinese peoples, as they were not a threat during the ... Show more

Confucius mentioned that a gentleman would only compete if it were regarding archery. Arguably,
it can be seen that Confucius recognizes the importance of archery especially in the six Arts of his
teachings. Similarly, the archery culture is prevalent in the nomadic culture of the Xiongnu, where
little boys are able to shoot birds and mice with bows and arrows and all the men can shoot and
serve as cavalry . Moreover, they hunt for food wherever they go and do not have the culture of
agriculture. Hence the concept of archery is relatively important for survival to the Xiongnu. Thus,
the concept of archery is important in both sources depictions of the non Chinese

By the end of eleventh century, Western Europe had experienced a powerful cultural revival. The
flourish of New towns provided a place for exchange of commerce and flow of knowledge and
ideas. Universities, which replaced monasteries as centers of learning, poured urbanized knowledge
into society. New technological advances and economics transformations provided the means for
building magnificent architectures. These developments were representative of the mental and

He is tested at various stages in his voyage, such as by the damsel who requires him to sleep with
her if he wants hospitality. Lancelot agrees only after pleading with her not to make him sleep
with her. He did this not because the girl was unattractive for he states, quot; Many men would have
thanked her five hundred times for such an offer. quot; He agrees to this act only because he
believes that he needs the lodging to rest himself so he can dutifully continue his quest for
Guinevere. Yet, Lancelot does not even look at her when she is naked; his lack of interest causes
the damsel to relinquish him from his promise. He stays perfectly loyal and faithful to his queen.
Obedience is another factor that constitutes courtly behavior in the story. Lancelot battles arduous
combats and suffers severe wounds for the love of Guinevere. However, once throughout his
voyage he falters in his obedience to her love, when he comes across a dwarf, driver of a cart, the
dwarf tells Lancelot to ride in the cart in exchange for information on Guinevere s whereabouts;
Lancelot hesitates momentarily before leaping into the cart. Lancelot regrets this moment of
hesitation and scolds himself, he argues ...Reason, who does not follow love s command, told him
to beware of getting in and admonished him...Love ordered and wished [he would ride in the
cart]...; since love ruled his action, the disgrace should not have mattered. 2 Lancelot is deeply
ashamed and never falters

Summary Of The Sound And The Fury And Absalom
In Faulkner s works, both the land and the people of the South struggle under the monumental
weight of myth and history. In fact, certain calamity looms over his fictional region of
Yoknahpatwah, a microcosm of the postbellum South. Themes of the Southern consciousness, such
as inescapable past and present, inherited guilt, and emotional and psychological stagnation pervade
this fictional region. In The Sound and the Fury (1929) and Absalom, Absalom! (1936), Faulkner s
portrayal of two Southern aristocratic families, the Compsons and the Sutpens, reveal Southerners
paradoxical attitudes towards the myths of the South: the refusal to forget the past and the inability
to live in the present. Both The Sound and the Fury and Absalom, Absalom!... Show more content

Problem of Historical Time
Time is a vital component in understanding Faulkner s treatment of the Southern history. Faulkner
s characters all experience frustration with past. In Faulkner s novels, time is a function of
history in which a complete engagement of tension between history and myth occurs. If
historical time is a progression of change that extends into and shapes the present, mythic time
produces a sense of stasis and circularity in which one feels stuck. The conflict between history
and myth arises from Faulkner s personal experience as a Southerner; like many Southerners of
his time, Faulkner was searching for a lost time while struggling to reconcile with the
questionable past of his region. In his interviews, Faulkner made clear the presentness that the
past (particularly the Civil War) had for him. In a class conference held at the University of
Virginia in 1957, he said no man is himself, he is the sum of his past. There is no such thing
really as was because the past is (129). When asked in 1958 about the Civil War veterans he knew
as a boy, Faulkner related that:
They didn t talk so much about that war. I had got that from the maiden, spinster aunts which had
never surrendered. But I can remember the old men, and they would get out the old shabby gray
uniforms and get out the old battle flag on Decoration, Memorial Day. Yes, I remember any number
of them. (Howe 249)

The Beginning Of Renaissance Art
The beginning of Renaissance art can be tracked all the way back to Italy in the late 13th and early
14th and 15th centuries. During this Renaissance period, Italian scholars and artists saw themselves
as bringing back the ideals and achievements of Roman culture. Their art tried to capture the
experience of the individual and the beauty and mystery of the natural world. The Italian
Renaissancewas considered a rebirth of old values in art such as literature and philosophy. It was a
period for the artist to develop that aimed for the revival of naturalism. Its influence moved through
Europe and brought back the cultural and scientific ideas that shaped artistic pieces for the next half
a century. Stefano Da Verona was an Italian artist who

Instead of having flat, stiff images, faces had not looked more realistic as bodies were painted in
more realistic form as their poses looked more human like, and figures now expressed real
emotion. While this was happening, Artists still tried to create work that were realistic but with
fluidity and not as much detail.. Although Giotto in this time period had strived towards adding a
perspective, it wasn t until the arrival of the architects Brunelleschi and Leon Battista Alberti that it
became big style to incorperate for many painters. Dossi s work of The Holy Family came in a time
late during the Renaissance. A time called the High Renaissance . Despite the growing realism
being achieved in their art, High Renaissance artists such as Dossi aimed for beauty, and harmony
more than realism, which was the focus in the past. Their paintings may have been based on nature
but they had no interest in replication. Instead they looked for the ultimate beauty within the
picture. This provoked artists towards the idea of perfection. Greek philosophy actually influenced
this style in the high Renaissance. It provided the secret of the perfect human type with its
proportions, muscular structure, oval face, triangular forehead, straight nose, and balance with the
weight on one hip, which can be seen in the immensely expressive sculpture of Michelangelo
(Botticelli). The difference in the paintings between the two time periods

belittled, discouraged and threatened. This has hurt him mentally and physically to the point of
depression. The people who primarily bully him are Jud, his half brother, and Mr. Gryce the

sending threats towards Billy such as I ll murder you when I get home. which implies that Billy

In that time and age, corporal punishment was considered ordinary. However, corporal punishment

Symptoms And Treatment Of Infant Respiratory Distress...
Overview of Disease
Each day there are thousands of babies born, and families wait for their new loved ones to enter
the world. However, there are also many complications that may occur with child birth.
Approximately 50% of neonates born at 26 28 weeks gestation develop respiratory distress
syndrome, whereas less than 30% of premature neonates born at 30 31 weeks gestation develop the
condition (MedScape). Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome, or IRDS for short, is a restrictive
lung disease that commonly occurs in premature babies. A common cause is a lack of surfactant
that is commonly found in developed lungs. Surfactant is a liquid that uses proteins and lipids to
help decrease the surface tension between the alveoli to create ... Show more content on

Pathophysiology
When premature babies are born they do not have fully developed lungs because the lungs are
one of the last organs in the body to be produced. The alveoli in the baby s lungs have not yet
started making surfactant, which is typically produced when the baby is 34 36 weeks gestation.
When the alveoli do not have surfactant, the alveoli want to naturally collapse. Surfactant helps to
keep the alveoli open and create more surface area for gas exchange. If you were to look at the
infant s lungs using a microscope, you can see that lungs look as though they are solid from the
areas where the alveoli have collapsed, also known as atelectasis. To try to compensate for the
atelectasis, the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and some of the alveoli dilate to decrease
airway resistance and increase gas exchange (Jardins 476). As the disease worsens, the walls of the
alveoli become lined with a hyaline membrane that is made up of dead cells and proteins that make
it nearly impossible for gas exchange to occur. It makes the lungs stiff and much harder to ventilate.
With the lungs being noncompliant, the baby starts to become hypoxic. When the infant becomes
hypoxic, blood is shunted away from the other organs in the body and venous return and cardiac
output are decreased. Hypoxemia is common in pulmonary hypertension (PH) and may be partly
related to ventilation/perfusion mismatch, low diffusion

Cost effectiveness of a new technique for a Common surgical procedure
In this present era of technological revolution, a scientific breakthrough or an advancement is a
common event. It is a tough task for any organization to maintain the balance between staying
ahead with the scientific know how and aligning the cost effectiveness of each intervention, which
they are accountable for, without compromising highest levels of patient management, safety and
care. Therefore, any new technique has to be cross examined not only for the robust clinical
effectiveness as to its competitors and also to justify its economic worthiness.

a.Systematic review of literature
b.Economic evaluation / Cost effectiveness analysis.
3)Appraisal Appraisal committee provides evidence based on analytic report and proposes
recommendations.
Defining scope
1)This is one of the integral preliminary steps in evaluating a new technique. It defines framework
for appraisal and determines issues of interest. The following steps are involved:
a.Cohort involved with the disease condition
b.Level at which intervention is proposed like community/hospital
c.Cost effectiveness to the organization
d.Analysis of outcome measures with the potential comparators
e.Defines efficient time period in which effects and cost can be analyzed
f.Identifies the evidence base from which data is collected
g.Highlights social concerns of equality along with maintenance of quality of life outcome
measures.

Senile Dementia
Dementia is a disease that has been characterized as a deficiency of permanent memory which leads
to a decrease in recent memory that can interfere with the ability to engage in professional and

dementia is not a part of the normal aging process, it has become a very serious and common
condition among the older population. An estimated 35.6 million people, with 7.7 million cases

Thomas Jonathan Jackson was a general who served in the Civil war. He was born on January 21,
1824 in Clarksburg, Virginia. Jackson s Parents were Jonathon Jackson Julia Beckwith Neale. He
had 3 brothers and sisters. They were Elizabeth, Warren, and Laura Ann. Elizabeth and Warren were
both older than him, and Laura Ann was younger.
When Thomas was only 8 years old his father and sister, Elizabeth, died of typhoid fever.
After his childhood in Virginia, Stonewall Jackson attended the United States Military Academy at
West Point. He was not the first choice to be able to attend for his congressional unit, but the first

(VMA), in Lexington, Virginia. He accepted the offer and taught natural and experimental

Thomas J. Jackson played a very important roll in the civil war. As a general for the confederate
side he served in many famous battles and was very well known. In November of 1859, Jackson
was one of the Virginia Military Institute officers to accompany the contingent of cadets to
Harpers Ferry, Virginia. At the execution of John Brown, who was an abolitionist, they stood
guard. In 1861 Jackson was in charge of the cadets who were ordered to Richmond. There they
were going to serve as drillmasters for new army recruits. 6 days later, Colonel Jackson was
ordered to take command at Harpers Ferry, where he soon comprised the famous stonewall
Brigade. That July, he was promoted to Brigadier General.
At the first battle of Bull Run, Jackson s small group of troops were facing overwhelming odds
but they formed a strong line and held their ground. At the sight of this, General Barnard Bee said,
There is Jackson s line over there standing like a stonewall. After this statement Thomas Jackson
was given the nickname Stonewall .
In October 1861 Colonel Jackson was promoted to Major General. He served in the seven day
battles, and displayed ineffective leadership, which stood in stark contrast to the brilliance of

The Downsides to Globalization
Does your friend that lives across the globe have the same branded shirt as you? Does she drink
Starbucks every morning like you? Does she watch the same videos on YouTube like you? How
does your friend have the same things as you but she is halfway across Earth? This is happening
because the world has aided in the homogenization of people and culture. Through internet and
other advancing technology and social media interaction among people has become easier. This
process is known as cultural globalizationbecause the whole world is leading to a single culture.
Globalization should be stopped since it is making cultures lose their identity and significance in
this world, and allows technology todays manufacture and global media to gain control over small
businessand many different aspects of people s life.
Cultural globalization has its own pros and cons. Cultures and societies can be brought together
through globalization. Because of the Revolution in Information Technology it has become easier
to communicate and connect with people of different cultures across the global. Through this
cultural diffusion societies are feeling similar and will become united. People from all of these
different nations will feel together rather than an outcast and eventually eradicate racism and
discrimination (Sofree). Globalization can lead to freedom from custom and have exposure to
alternative ways of life and thought will help increase global awareness and appreciate to

The Effects Of Diabetes Melllitus
Diabetes mellitus being a metabolic disorder shows a variety of characteristic biochemical
parameters in alloxan induced diabetic rats. Rats induced with diabetes mellitus by a single intra
peritoneal injection of 120 mg/kg of alloxan showed a significant increase in the blood glucose
level, serum urea, creatinine and uric acid; marked elevation in serum Aspartate aminotransferase
(AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and Alkaline phosphatase (ALP). The serum bilirubin,
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Gammaglutamyltransferase (GGT), Malonaldehyde (MDA), Total
cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL and VLDL were increased. There was a decrease in the serum
HDL, total protein, albumin, and reduced glutathione (GSH) compared to those of control rats....

Metformin restores increased blood glucose to normal levels in alloxan induced rats without
causing life threatening hypoglycemia. It reduces the blood glucose by inhibiting hepatic
gluconeogenesis and increases insulin stimulated glucose uptake by skeletal muscle and adipose
tissues. It inhibits alpha glucosidase and there by retards absorption of disaccharidases from the
intestine by enhancing the activity of AMP activated protein kinase (Chaturvedi, 2010; Nkambo et
al, 2013). In the present study, fenugreek was found to have a more potent action than that of
metformin.
The urea, uric acid and creatinine levels were significantly higher in the diabetic rats compared to
those of control rats. This is because of the increased utilization of protein as a consequence of
impaired carbohydrate metabolism due to hypoinsulinemia (Finco, 1984). The serum urea, uric
acid and creatinine levels showed a decreasing trend in Wistar rats treated with 400 mg/kg of
fenugreek. When treated with 800 mg/kg of fenugreek the above three parameters showed a
marked decrease attaining a near to normal value when compared to that of the control rats (Khalid
et al, 2010). This indicates the increased peripheral utilization of glucose preferential to protein
with a high dose of fenugreek. When treated with metformin there was a reduction in the levels of
serum urea, uric acid and creatinine in diabetic rats. These results are similar to that of a previous
study in which

The China National Power Corporation
Currently, the country operates 36 nuclear reactors that produce 31.4 GW of power while 20 other
reactors are under construction and they are expected to generate 20.5 GW when complete (World
Nuclear Association, World nuclear power reactors and Uranium requirements, 2016). Besides,
there are plans to construct more reactors with a capacity of 58 GW by 2020 thereby increasing
nuclear powerfrom the current 2 percent to 6 percent in line with its 11th Five Year nuclear
generation plan.
Organization of Nuclear Industry
The development of the nuclear energy in Chins is fragmented; meaning that the government
comes up with the general plan, but different organization carries out the implementation. The
commission that deals with Stata Development and Planning approves all projects. The China
National Power Corporation (CNNC) deals with business issues include uranium exploration,
research and development, waste management, and design. There are four construction companies
namely China Nuclear Engineering and Construction Company, China Power Investment Company,
China General Nuclear Power Group, and China Light and Power. The development of nuclear
sector in China also relies on the institutions of higher learning that provide technical knowledge,

Pandetarianism And The Beliefs Of Pastafarianism
It is easy to crown Pastafarianism as the king of all ridiculous churches because there surely cannot
be a more absurd church. Pastafarianism, or the religion of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, is a
church that believes that a literal flying spaghetti monster created the world. If you think that is
bizarre, then brace yourself. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Apparently, adherents called
Pastafarians also believe that humanbeings are descendants of pirates, who were the first human
beings. Ridiculous, right? In many people s opinion, this religion is clearly a mockery of
Christianity taken too far, but there are those who claim that Pastafarianism is a legitimate religion.
Anyway, in the sea of ridiculous churches, Pastafarianism only scratches the surface.
Most Ridiculous Churches: Nuwaubian Nation
Nuwaubian Nation was a church that could only be best described as a cult. Its founder, Dwight
Young, started the church in the late 1960s. The church s beliefs were diverse, ranging from
black supremacy to UFOs and conspiracies like the Illuminati to Egyptian worship. In its onset, it
bore some similarities to Islam, but gradually, the church s beliefs began to diverge into the
pandemonium it is today. To further solidify its status as a church, Young wrote 450 booklets. He
claimed to be a messianic founder prophet of his religion and would go as far as proclaiming
divine status. Consequently, he even created a Savior s day to honor himself.
His church also bordered on

The Importance Of British Imperialism In Britain
The British empire, as well as many others, were diminishing, during the post war era. The focus of
this essay is to answer the question debating the relevance of British imperialism on immigrants
who enter the United Kingdom during the post war period. In summary, the answer that will be
provided is that imperialism was the main contributor to pulling people towards Britain, yet it was
not the only one. On the other hand, the imperial status had no relevance on all the immigrants, and
this also will be discussed. Between the years of 1948 and 1962, it has been estimated that 500,000
immigrants from the British Commonwealth entered the United Kingdom. This essay will

This was the ship that transported passengers from Commonwealth countries to Britain. The
passengers on board the Empire Windrush were predominately Jamaicans; but there were other
nationalities of Australians, Mexican, Polish, and other people from the Caribbean islands. The
docking of the Empire Windrush was a watershed moment, as Kushner explains that, on one side
was the empires end, while on the other was a revision of what British meant. The age of the
empire was when those living in Britain embarked on gaining territories for economic and prestige
reasons, spreading civilisation. However, since the end of the Second World War, colonies were
demanding independence, yet, for some who gained this independence, they still wanted some
sense of British influence. This was the beginning of the British Commonwealth. As the Phillips
brothers point out, however, prior to the Windrush arriving in Britain in 1947, there was a black
population able to trace their lineage back a few centuries. Additionally, during the Second World
War, about ten thousand West Indian men arrived in Britain, which was more than the entire pre
war black population. Hence, Britain was not new to having a black population, the problem was
the numbers of this population was increasing uncontrollably. Many of these passengers from the
Commonwealth came to Britain because of its imperial importance on their countries.
After the war, Western European countries experienced a labour shortage,

The Violation Of Copyright Infringement

amendment to come into effect after being passed. For years now, copyright infringement has been
a problem not just for Australia, but for the world. As a result, there was bipartisan support from
both sides of parliament, and the amendment passed with a strong majority behind it. Both parties
were keen to vote for the amendment to be seen by the public as supporting the rights of those who
hold ownership of copyrighted content. Being a form of thievery, many believe that this
amendment should have been passed regardless of any consequences. However, many have
criticized the amendment, believing that the law was not passed with the intention of stopping
copyright, but to create a means for the government to block websites they find troubling, to both
their reputations and operations. Though the general public weren t aware of this, and as such, the
amendment received public support as well, without much criticism. However, there are various
different flaws in the amendment, that were brought up by people against it. Specifically the lack

The Berlin Cabaret in the Golden Twenties
The reaction of the bad economy after War World I, was unexpected in berlin, the population
want to look for pleasure and spend all their energy just pleasing their needs, instead of working
to re establish their economy after the devastating war. During this period the spread of the
famous cabaret in berlin was successful, these cabarets were restaurants and nightclubs where
people sat at tables and talk about politics, economy and afterwar themes, they also were
entertained by singers, dancers, and comedians on stages, making a different show that
everybody loved. Because of the liberalism in berlin after the war and the need of the people,
cabaret was the new place of everybody to enjoy and spend all their money; smoking cigars, and
drinking alcohol. According to the film in the Second Degree: Cabaret and the Dark Side of

Japanese Interpersonal Relationships
The first topic is about a worker s relation towards his or her workmates with consideration of the
working culture and environment. There are three principal factors which affects interpersonal
relationship at workplace, I think; tendency of finding a value in working hard, the hidden but strict
rule of having worship for the boss, and the subjection of women. I will take up each factor.
First of all, I ll describe the effect of Japanese tendency of finding value in working hard. One of
the reason is that Japanese are concerned about how they are perceived by the others. I don t know
the absolute reason but Japanese tend to be a group oriented. In order not to disrupt the atmosphere

Risk And Valuation Of The Pharmaceutical And Health- Care...
IV Risk and valuation a. Risk The company has traditionally made strategic acquisitions of
businesses in the pharmaceutical and health care industry in order to obtain desired patents for
research, gain more market powers or expand to a new market. Therefore, there is no doubt if
Johnson and Johnson will continue to acquire more firms in the future. As a reference, in only one
year of 2013, the company completed the acquisitions of Aragon Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately
held, pharmaceutical development business focused on drugs to treat hormonally driven cancers,
Flexible Stenting Solutions, Inc., a leading developer of innovative flexible peripheral arterial,
venous and biliary stents and Shanghai Elsker Mother Baby Co., Ltd, a baby care company in
China. These acquisitions, along with the Alios BioPharma s acquisition which will be expected to
be complete during the last quarter of 2014, involve challenges and risks. In the event that the
company does not successfully integrate these acquisitions into their existing operations so as to
realize the expected return on their investment, their results of operations, cash flow or financial
condition could be adversely affected. Also there are risks and uncertainties associated with the
company s expansion into their operations in Asia, Latin America, Caribbean and other foreign
markets could adversely affect their results of operations, cash flow, liquidity or financial condition.

Every technological advance has a time in place were it grows expeditiously to a point where
most of the technology has been developed and from there on it is just a matter of improving it.

have evolved quickly at first but after the first 30 to 40 years they haven t change from the original
configuration much. For attack aviation that was Vietnam 1958 1975, the changes in advancement

Carbon Monoxide Pollution
Background Since the Industrial Revolution, there has been an increased presence of pollutants and
carcinogens in the environment, specif ically in urban areas.1 The presence of airborne pollutants
can lead to an increase in allergic reactions and asthma rates. A common airborne pollutant is
carbon monoxide (CO), which is commonly found in diesel exhaust. It is an odorless gas produced
from me thane and non methane hydrocarbon oxidation.2 The toxic gas eliminates and takes the
place of oxygenin the form of carboxy hemoglobin when it binds to hemoglobin in red blood cells.
It also affects the binding sites of heme groups, which complicates the transfer of oxygen to
tissues.3 The majority of deaths from carbon monoxidepoisoning is brought on from car exhaust.4
Between the years 1979 and 1988, 57% of deaths from carbon monoxide poi soning were brought
from car exhaust. There tend to be higher rates of carbon monoxide poisoning from car exhaust in
northern regions, where temperatures are relatively low (Figure 1). 5
A way to approach the elimination of carbon monoxide from car exhaust is through the use of
organometallic catalysts. Through the use of a catalyst, a reaction can occur at a faster rate and at
lower activation energy. Said catalysts serve are of great commercial interest because they
essentially convert simple mole cules into more complex ones.6 Unlike homogeneous catalysts,
heterogeneous catalysts are not in the same phase as how the reac tion is occurring. Because of
this, the catalysts are considered to be cheaper and easier to obtain. It is also considered more envi
ronmentally friendly to use.6 7
Selective heterogeneous catalysis can be performed in terms of oxidation and reduction. A typical
reduction reaction would re quire an oxidation agent and the use of certain intermediates, just like
the catalytic reduction reaction for the dehydration of ethanol (Scheme 1). The reaction uses solid
acids, such as group A salts, as catalysts and said catalysts are heated in order to convert etha nol
to ethylene. The heterogeneous reaction is known as an acid catalyzed, or bulk type (I) catalysis,
reaction. 8

British Petroleum (Bp) Case Study Essay
British Petroleum (BP) Case Study
Executive Summary
This case study report examined a public relation management problem that British Petroleum (BP)
faced since the oil spill accident happened in April, 2010. In addition, this thesis recommended
possible solutions and implementation plans for BP to deal with the public crisis.
On April 20, the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico led to the
largest accidental release of oil into marine waters in history. As a result, a huge loss of money
and life was caused and affected serious environmental damage to wild animals and water pollution.
BP was accused of their irresponsibility that it took 87 days before the well was closed and sealed.

As of 31 December 2010, BP had spent $17.7 billion for their response activities.
As of March 28, there were still 217 vessels and 2,349 personnel working on cleaning up the
spill. 3,474 kilometres of containment and absorbent boom were deployed against the spreading
oil slick on August 2nd. 411 in situ burns conducted (which burned 265,450 barrels of oil) and 1.4
million barrels of liquid waste collected.
1.2. Problem of statement
The oil spill undermines the reputation and market position of British Petroleum, thus its stock
prices decline dramatically. Even though BP took measures for resolving these problems, its way
was not beneficial enough and therefore, it still requires more advantageous resolutions.

The same can be said for trends and products. They have witnessed what a mistake it is to ignore
their past progress and simply focus on what is next. While it is important to spend a great deal of
time working towards advancement, especially in a market that is rising. However, it is very
difficult to ignore what brought about all of these changes and what has been working (Kerin,
Hartley amp; Rudelius, 2013).
Another challenge that they may face includes economic changes. Since, Prince Sports markets
their product internationally, they need to pay attention to the economies of all the countries they

resulting in new marketing tactics having to be put in place (Benoit amp; Gleason, 2012).

outstanding city with a lighthouse is Charlevoix, Michigan. Charlevoix is up north near the top of
the mitten. There is a small lighthouse on a small pier that opens the sizable Lake Charlevoix into
Lake Michigan. One of the best things to do in the summer is jumping off of the Charlevoix
lighthouse pier into the crisp water of lake Michigan. The water is so clear and blue and feels so
refreshing on a hot summer day. Seeing the boats go through the channel and sitting by the water is

U.s. Healthcare Systems Of The United States
U.S. Healthcare Systems
The United States has a broad history of diversity and challenges that no other country has faced.
One of those challenges has been providing healthcare for its citizens. Healthcare in the United
States started out with many religious groups that wanted to help those in need. This form of
care for the people of this country has grown to a healthcare system that accounts for 3.2 trillion
dollars of the nation s gross domestic products (CMS (2016). This staggering number has grown
each year and clearly shows the impact that it can have on the economy. As the years have passed
by, so has the political landscape. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law by President
Barack Obama on March 23, 2010 with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patient s diets have changed over the last 100 years and have created a large increase in chronic
illnesses and higher needs for medical care. This demand has created the need for a much greater
system of healthcare that includes hospitals, providers, and insurance companies. Over the years,
there have been a lot of changes to improve healthcare. With all of the spending and advancements
in health care, the United States is still very behind in health care costs compared to other
countries in the world. According to Stoltzfus Pollack (2016) the median household income in the
United States in 2014 was $53,657,10 so the average household with a median income would have
spent almost 46 percent of its income on health care were costs and income evenly distributed
across the population. These numbers are staggering in comparison to other countries and even
worse put the United States at the bottom of the list for healthy countries. These numbers have all
proven the overall impact that the U.S health care system has on the economy. In 2017, Current
President Donald Trump vowed to make a major change to the ACA that had been placed into law
seven years ago. During this period when Republicans tried to tally the votes needed to make
changes the U.S stock markets projected the uncertainty of the votes. These numbers represented by
the U.S economy projected just how big of an impact the health care system can have on the
economy.

The Impact Of Social Work On The Elderly
When you think about social work, you come to mind of professionals stepping in to help
families, communities and organizations. I neglect consider the elderly and put them last in
need of care and assistance. In terms of the idea about social work with the elderly it has a small
impact. The role of the social worker has a part of administrative requirements. Throughout the
period of time and development of social work there is casework that deal with the elderly. The
practice of this that deal with the elderly had very little recognition until it was carried out by the
National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 (Jordan, 2005, pp. 43). Social work in
Canadian seniors is that the aging can be attributed to the three factors that... Show more content on

This shows that Canada does excellent benefit services and welfare of the elderly that are low
income. The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) retirement pension provides a monthly benefit to eligible
applicants. Also, the Private pension plans provide workers with retirement income to increase
their income from public pension plans. Many business pension funds now underfunded; may be
unable to pay out to retirees. There is concern that Old Age Security/Guaranteed Income
Supplement are no longer adequate. Since 2008 financial crisis led to drop in value of RRSP
investments. This challenges the pension system and the elderly that need social assistance and a
way of living becomes more difficult in the process. Life expectancy has doubled over the past
100 years. Majority of seniors do not engage in behaviours harmful to their health. There is a
health gap between seniors with low incomes and those with higher incomes. Seniors face a
number of common issues: Inactivity, accidents, victims of fraud and mandatory retirement. Elder
abuse and neglect of seniors is the mistreatment of older people by those in a position of trust,
power, or responsibility for their care. Neglect is frequently associated with abuse. Abuse may take
place in the home or institutional setting. Institutional Abuse is any act or omission directed at a
resident that causes the person harm, or that wrongfully deprives that person of his or her
independence. Social work in the long term care settings

Management Styles In Management
Every person brings a new management style with them to the positions. However, not all
managing styles are effective for a well ran organization with good employees. Some aspects of a
good manager are one who empowers their employees, motivates them, and in today s work
climate protect the staff from bullies. Along with personal issues that managers deal with in
libraries, new technologies are introduced quickly. Managers are responsible for staff training on
the new technology and creating new policies for the technology. Empowerment is one the most
important things that a manager can give to their employee. Sahoo, Behera, and Tripathy found
that employees who feel empowered are happier, do a better job, and they are more loyal to the...

Chang and Jang modified the theory again, in the graph below. (p.75). In this version of the theory
intrinsic and extrinsic valence as well as intrinsic and extrinsic instrumentality is added to the
theory. The study showed that the employees responded well to this motivational style. As a
manager I want to provide my employees with a work environment that is safe from bullies.
Bullying can lead to staff absenteeism, depression, and high employee turnover (). Strong leadership
and clearly defined job descriptions are two things a manager can do to prevent bullying in the
library (). Another thing a manager can do is create an environment where aggressive behavior is
not accepted (). Situations where employees are experiencing heavier than usual workload or if
the organization is restructuring can lead to bullying behaviors. As a manager these are time I
need to be extra vigilant. Postorek, Contacos Sawyer, and Thomas suggest that organizations make
very clear in their policies what constitutes aggressive behavior. Also all staff member will know
the steps in reporting and the disciplining of the bully. An important tip they give is for hiring new
staff members. They suggest that when checking references to ask about aggressive behaviors so

A large primary care pediatric practice launched an Emergency Room diversion pilot program and conducted a study of Medicaid recipients, 18 years and younger . (2) 17,382 children were enrolled in an enhanced access group (intervention group) and 26,066 received services from other local primary care providers (control group). (2) The twelve month study results showed that the average per member per month cost of emergency room utilization of the intervention group was $1.36 less than the controlled group. There was no significant difference in terms of per visit cost related to emergency room usage. Although the overall cost of healthcare delivery has not increased the enrollment in traditional Medicaid fee for service product has increased and surpassed Medicaid managed care enrollment in the past six years. This recent change in the market place is of particular concern. The idea of losing what has been gained such as, guaranteed access to providers, improved care management attributed to primary care provider healthcare delivery and the ability to monitor insurance carrier performance motivated State Medicaid agencies to devise a response on how to handle this current issue. Canada s production, distribution, and use of energy resources, such as oil and natural gas had been undergoing long history of development that still persists until today. The industrialization of the sixties, and market oriented economy of today initiated heavy reliance on natural resources extraction across the country, whether it is oil and gas, nuclear power, or timber production. Digging deeper, Canada is dependent on oil and gas production, with oil sands making up 90% of Canada s reserves that are mainly concentrated in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin as well as well as in the Pacific Morgan Sedimentary Basin, that stretch along Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan (National Energy Board, 2014). Alberta appoints majority of oil sands production at the national level, then it is exported to the international market, mainly to the US, utilizing pipelines as modes of transportation. Needless to say, that the exploitation of oil and gas created polarizing relationships between the economy and the environment at the municipal, provincial, and national levels. The phenomenon of the oil and gas production in Canada plays into environmental concerns of Climate Change in terms of greenhouse gasemissions, violations of First Nations land rights, vulnerability on an international market, and long term ecological consequences, such as air and water pollution, oil spills and leaks, and etc., over economic benefits. Both of them had various depictions of the non Chinese peoples in their respective eras. So, what are the points of comparison in which we can uncover the similarities and differences of these depictions? The essay will seek to answer the question by first discussing the different depictions of the non Chinese peoples by both Confucius and Sima Qian based on the definition of the term non Chinese and the extent of threats, the attitude towards the non Chinese peoples, their strengths, and the idea of assimilation. The similarities will later be explored through the concept of archery and the concept of profit and individualism. Lastly, the degree of difference will be discussed in the concluding paragraph. Firstly, both sources depict non Chinese peoples as Barbarians . However, each source has a different focus: a general definition or a specific one. In fact, certain calamity looms over his fictional region of Yoknahpatwah, a microcosm of the postbellum South. Themes of the Southern consciousness, such as inescapable past and present, inherited guilt, and emotional and psychological stagnation pervade this fictional region. In The Sound and the Fury (1929) and Absalom, Absalom! (1936), Faulkner s portrayal of two Southern aristocratic families, the Compsons and the Sutpens, reveal Southerners paradoxical attitudes towards the myths of the South: the refusal to forget the past and the inability to live in the present. Problem of Historical Time Time is a vital component in understanding Faulkner s treatment of the Southern history. Faulkner s characters all experience frustration with past. In Faulkner s novels, time is a function of history in which a complete engagement of tension between history and myth occurs. If historical time is a progression of change that extends into and shapes the present, mythic time produces a sense of stasis and circularity in which one feels stuck. The conflict between history and myth arises from Faulkner s personal experience as a Southerner; like many Southerners of his time, Faulkner was searching for a lost time while struggling to reconcile with the questionable past of his region. In his interviews, Faulkner made clear the presentness that the past (particularly the Civil War) had for him. In a class conference held at the University of Virginia in 1957, he said no man is himself, he is the sum of his past. There is no such thing really as was because the past is (129). When asked in 1958 about the Civil War veterans he knew as a boy, Faulkner related that: They didn t talk so much about that war. I had got that from the maiden, spinster aunts which had never surrendered. Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome, or IRDS for short, is a restrictive lung disease that commonly occurs in premature babies. Pathophysiology When premature babies are born they do not have fully developed lungs because the lungs are one of the last organs in the body to be produced. The alveoli in the baby s lungs have not yet started making surfactant, which is typically produced when the baby is 34 36 weeks gestation. When the alveoli do not have surfactant, the alveoli want to naturally collapse. Surfactant helps to keep the alveoli open and create more surface area for gas exchange. If you were to look at the infant s lungs using a microscope, you can see that lungs look as though they are solid from the areas where the alveoli have collapsed, also known as atelectasis. To try to compensate for the atelectasis, the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and some of the alveoli dilate to decrease airway resistance and increase gas exchange (Jardins 476). As the disease worsens, the walls of the alveoli become lined with a hyaline membrane that is made up of dead cells and proteins that make it nearly impossible for gas exchange to occur. It makes the lungs stiff and much harder to ventilate. With the lungs being noncompliant, the baby starts to become hypoxic. When the infant becomes hypoxic, blood is shunted away from the other organs in the body and venous return and cardiac output are decreased. This process is known as cultural globalizationbecause the whole world is leading to a single culture. Globalization should be stopped since it is making cultures lose their identity and significance in this world, and allows technology todays manufacture and global media to gain control over small businessand many different aspects of people s life. Cultural globalization has its own pros and cons. Cultures and societies can be brought together through globalization. Because of the Revolution in Information Technology it has become easier to communicate and connect with people of different cultures across the global. Through this cultural diffusion societies are feeling similar and will become united. People from all of these different nations will feel together rather than an outcast and eventually eradicate racism and discrimination (Sofree). Rats induced with diabetes mellitus by a single intra peritoneal injection of 120 mg/kg of alloxan showed a significant increase in the blood glucose level, serum urea, creatinine and uric acid; marked elevation in serum Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and Alkaline phosphatase (ALP). The serum bilirubin, Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Gammaglutamyltransferase (GGT), Malonaldehyde (MDA), Total cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL and VLDL were increased. Metformin restores increased blood glucose to normal levels in alloxan induced rats without causing life threatening hypoglycemia. It reduces the blood glucose by inhibiting hepatic gluconeogenesis and increases insulin stimulated glucose uptake by skeletal muscle and adipose tissues. It inhibits alpha glucosidase and there by retards absorption of disaccharidases from the intestine by enhancing the activity of AMP activated protein kinase (Chaturvedi, 2010; Nkambo et al, 2013). In the present study, fenugreek was found to have a more potent action than that of metformin. The urea, uric acid and creatinine levels were significantly higher in the diabetic rats compared to those of control rats. This is because of the increased utilization of protein as a consequence of impaired carbohydrate metabolism due to hypoinsulinemia (Finco, 1984). The serum urea, uric acid and creatinine levels showed a decreasing trend in Wistar rats treated with 400 mg/kg of fenugreek. When treated with 800 mg/kg of fenugreek the above three parameters showed a marked decrease attaining a near to normal value when compared to that of the control rats (Khalid et al, 2010). This indicates the increased peripheral utilization of glucose preferential to protein with a high dose of fenugreek. When treated with metformin there was a reduction in the levels of serum urea, uric acid and creatinine in diabetic rats. These results are similar to that of a previous study in which ... Pastafarianism, or the religion of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, is a church that believes that a literal flying spaghetti monster created the world. If you think that is bizarre, then brace yourself. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Apparently, adherents called Pastafarians also believe that humanbeings are descendants of pirates, who were the first human beings. Ridiculous, right? In many people s opinion, this religion is clearly a mockery of Christianity taken too far, but there are those who claim that Pastafarianism is a legitimate religion. Anyway, in the sea of ridiculous churches, Pastafarianism only scratches the surface. Most Ridiculous Churches: Nuwaubian Nation Nuwaubian Nation was a church that could only be best described as a cult. Its founder, Dwight Young, started the church in the late 1960s. The church s beliefs were diverse, ranging from black supremacy to UFOs and conspiracies like the Illuminati to Egyptian worship. In its onset, it bore some similarities to Islam, but gradually, the church s beliefs began to diverge into the pandemonium it is today. The docking of the Empire Windrush was a watershed moment, as Kushner explains that, on one side was the empires end, while on the other was a revision of what British meant. The age of the empire was when those living in Britain embarked on gaining territories for economic and prestige reasons, spreading civilisation. However, since the end of the Second World War, colonies were demanding independence, yet, for some who gained this independence, they still wanted some sense of British influence. This was the beginning of the British Commonwealth. As the Phillips brothers point out, however, prior to the Windrush arriving in Britain in 1947, there was a black population able to trace their lineage back a few centuries. Additionally, during the Second World War, about ten thousand West Indian men arrived in Britain, which was more than the entire pre war black population. Hence, Britain was not new to having a black population, the problem was the numbers of this population was increasing uncontrollably. • 37. Carbon Monoxide Pollution Background Since the Industrial Revolution, there has been an increased presence of pollutants and carcinogens in the environment, specif ically in urban areas.1 The presence of airborne pollutants can lead to an increase in allergic reactions and asthma rates. A common airborne pollutant is carbon monoxide (CO), which is commonly found in diesel exhaust. It is an odorless gas produced from me thane and non methane hydrocarbon oxidation.2 The toxic gas eliminates and takes the place of oxygenin the form of carboxy hemoglobin when it binds to hemoglobin in red blood cells. It also affects the binding sites of heme groups, which complicates the transfer of oxygen to tissues.3 The majority of deaths from carbon monoxidepoisoning is brought on from car exhaust.4 Between the years 1979 and 1988, 57% of deaths from carbon monoxide poi soning were brought from car exhaust. There tend to be higher rates of carbon monoxide poisoning from car exhaust in northern regions, where temperatures are relatively low (Figure 1). 5 A way to approach the elimination of carbon monoxide from car exhaust is through the use of organometallic catalysts. Through the use of a catalyst, a reaction can occur at a faster rate and at lower activation energy. Said catalysts serve are of great commercial interest because they essentially convert simple mole cules into more complex ones.6 Unlike homogeneous catalysts, heterogeneous catalysts are not in the same phase as how the reac tion is occurring. Because of this, the catalysts are considered to be cheaper and easier to obtain. It is also considered more envi ronmentally friendly to use.6 7 Selective heterogeneous catalysis can be performed in terms of oxidation and reduction. A typical reduction reaction would re quire an oxidation agent and the use of certain intermediates, just like the catalytic reduction reaction for the dehydration of ethanol (Scheme 1). The reaction uses solid acids, such as group A salts, as catalysts and said catalysts are heated in order to convert etha nol to ethylene. The heterogeneous reaction is known as an acid catalyzed, or bulk type (I) catalysis, reaction. 8 Proof of Concept When it comes to eliminating toxic components of car exhaust, there ...
