Harry Potter Heroic Monomyth Essay
Books and movies, young and old, generally follow the same path. This path is called heroic
monomyth in which the hero undergoes many tasks and is most likely accompanied by a friend
and meets new trials along the way. In the novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by J.K.
Rowling, the character Harry Potter displays multiple counts of heroic monomyth through the call
to adventure, supernatural aid, and crossing the threshold. In the novel, the call to adventure is
present in multiple ways. First, an unusual letter shows up at the Dursley s home one day. This
letter, unlike all of the other letters and various mail, was addressed to Harry Potter. Yet here it
was, a letter, addressed so plainly there could be no mistake... (Rowling 34). It was also made of
strange parchment paper, and signed in emerald which made it stand out. This letter was calling

Potter s supernatural aid would be considered Rubeus Hagrid, Hermione Granger, and Ron
Weasley. Granger and Weasley are Potter s closest friends throughout the whole novel. They are
in his house, Gryffindor, and they help him along his quest. One example of how they aid him
through the journey is when they help Harry Potter to get to the sorcerer s stone before
professor Snape can. Potter tells them that it is okay if they want to stay behind and maybe they
even should, but Weasley contradicts Potter by saying, Oh, come off it, you don t think we d let
you go alone (Rowling 271). Granger then agrees with Weasley and Potter allows them to come
along and help them to get through the six obstacles leading to the sorcerer s stone. The door
was hit with such force that it swung clean off its hinges and with a defeating crash landed flat on
the floor. A giant man was standing in the doorway (Rowling 47) Hagrid is an enormous person
who is powerful. He uses his advantage of being strong to assist Potter on his

Karl Marx And Mill Had A Great Impact With Their Work...
Individuality is a topic that was discussed by many philosophers during the 19th century all around
the world, particularly in Europe were many great philosophers came to this world with many ideas
and political philosophies in how the individual has to be treated in order to satisfy its necessities
and the necessities of its family. Freedom, alienation and many others factors were many of the
threats that society was going through in the 19th century. Philosophers like Marx and Mill had a
great impact with their work influencing new generations of thinkers. Therefore this essay will

These ideas are the main reason on Marx s conclusion on man s nature, which is incredibly
important to understand the theory of the individual. Man s nature is not abstract; a characteristic of
a certain individual. Actually it is the totally of all the social relations (Marx). In this quote the idea
of man s nature that Marx has represents a revolutionary reconstruction that would have to happen
in the world and the importance of education in the individual.
Marx s studies the theory of the individual and mainly focus in three areas, which are the complete
development of the individual, the problems of alienation and freedom.
Labour for the worker is something external not belonging to his nature...in his labour he does
not affirm himself, but denies himself, feels not happy, but unhappy, does not develop freely his
physical and spiritual energy but wears out his physical nature and destroys his spiritual force.
This is why the worker feels that he is himself only outside of working hours in the process of
labour he feels he is estranged from himself. He is himself when he is not working, and when he
works he is already not himself. (Marx)
Marx explains the idea in how the labor workers do not own they own work. Therefore, alienation
is a product from labor and it is used between capitalist societies to alienate the product of a man s
labor and his social nature. The bourgeois society will take the

Post Purchase Education System
Issues with this Research
The only programs that were included are those that an individual with no inside information about
the organizations would be able to find if they were to search for post purchase programs.
Local Program Scoping
A total of twenty local programs were evaluated in order to determine what post purchase
educational services are offered by local organizations. These services were divided into three
categories: services provided to renters, services provided to homeowners, and hands on
educational programs. As shown in the chart below, each type and topic of service is provided by
at least one local organization. However, it should be noted that some of the programs (for instance,

Blackfeet Indians Argumentative Essay
Generally when one thinks of the American west their mind jumps to an image of untouched,
unspoiled land, such as the land that is represented by America s national parks. These tourist
destinations in the West showcase the history of our nation s land in a way that many people
assume is and has always been the reality, but although the natural beauty of these lands is
represented perhaps the beauty of the cultures that used to inhabit them is not. The Blackfeet
Indians once occupied a large portion of what is now Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana, but as the
Whiteman moved west and began to modernize, this sacred land was invaded. As a result of this
modernization the Blackfeet Indians were forced to assimilate into the modern white society. This

Narcissism Maccoby Summary
The Productive Narcissist: the Promise and Peril of Visionary Leadership by Michael Maccoby is
a claiming of narcissism as a positive attribute. Maccoby, as a psychologist and business expert, has
used this book to show the significance a narcissist can have on a company and the potential
success of the company. This nonfiction book narrows the scope of interest concerning the
effectiveness of visionaries with these personality qualities.
Michael Maccoby presented the book as a speech and uses the typical speech configuration,
repetition, to ensure his point known to the reader. He presents a point, repeats the point, and then
finally summarizes what the reader should have derived from the presented statement. Maccoby
also uses his personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 4 the attention is on identifying the common attributes among leaders Maccoby has
studied. He has named these related skills, strategic intelligence. Strategic intelligence looks at
the ability of a leader to think systematically: to develop a systemic vision that takes into account
the confluence of present and future social and economic trends; to partner with people and
corporations that complement and further corporate goals; to implement a vision by developing
and motivating a complex social and business system. Strategic intelligence gives employees,
board members, and investors a new set of criteria for gauging the ability of leaders, to put aside
seductive promises, a track record in an unrelated industry, and overall charisma in favor of the
skills needed to both construct a strategic vision and turn it into a reality. Two questions are the
focus of chapter 5: Why would anyone want to subject him or herself to working with a
productive narcissist and, having decided to align yourself with one, how do you work for, with,
or around him without losing your mind or letting your own ego take a battering? Concluding The

Failure Of Blockbuster Essay
Introduction: The rise and the advancements of the internet through faster broadband speed levels
and greater reach and affordability has resulted in the successes of many businesses like those of
online streaming services. Streaming services such as Netflix, Stan, Foxtel, Quickflix, BigPond
Movies and many others have seized on the ability to distribute movies online for a lower price
than many independent stores, or even large scale ones, forcing many to close and others to face
extinction. One of the large scale franchise stores which is of great interest to mention and talk
about throughout this report is Blockbuster. (Davis Higgins, 2013) states that Giant Movie Gallery

The Effects Of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation ( Nmes...
The impact of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on markers of recovery following
intensive, muscle damaging training
Introduction
For many sports with congested fixtures recovery between games is very important to ensure
players are at their best for the matches. An example of a period where this is particularly true is
the Christmas period with football with most teams facing a high number of games in a short
period, sometimes only 2 days between games. Without proper recovery modalities players, can
suffer from delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and from a study by Cheung, Hume Maxwell
(2003) it was found that DOMS reduces athletic performance due to the muscle soreness and the
damage done to the muscle and caused a decrease in strength and power, with a greater effect on
strength and power during eccentric contractions. A study by Byrne, Twist and Eston (2004)
discussed the muscle damage caused by high force eccentric exercise. They found that the stretch
shortening cycle(SSC) what occurs during a drop jump, causes muscle damage in the muscle and
therefore contributes to DOMS and is similar to the damage done by running.
The appearance of Creatine Kinase in the blood following exercise has been used as an indirect
measure of muscle damage and a study by Clarkson Hubal (2002) looked into various different
markers of muscle damage in the blood and CK was investigated compared to other blood markers
they found CK increase much more relative to other

Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Typically, when one hears the word lottery, they think about someone winning a desirable prize.
Unfortunately, this is not the case in a small American town that Shirley Jackson introduces us
to in her novel, The Lottery . In this novel, readers get to know a patriarch community that takes
part in an unusual annual tradition. In this tradition, the town gathers to play a game. The head
of each family in the town draws a slip from a black box. One of the slips in the black box contains
a black dot. This game is the town s form of a lottery; who ever draws the dotted slip will be
stoned to death by the other town members. The story starts off serene and idyllic but by the end
readers witness a murder. Shirley Jacksons, The Lottery, shows how people often hold on to
traditions even when they are barbaric and have lost their meaning. She does this by showing
readers that members of the society will hold on to inhumane practices simply because the practice
is considered tradition. In this exploration of this towns traditional lottery , Jackson leads the
reader down a savage story line. Jackson is able to draw on the ethnic appeal by focusing on the
very moment of the stoning. After the stoning, the reader is able to look back and see several
details they might have missed or overlooked. The tradition has taken control of the community
members.
Over time the lottery as lost many of its aspects and people have forgotten how it was originally
done and has turned into

Anonymous Personal War on the Arab Spring
Anonymous is more than just a hacking group it s a culture of people devoted to accessible
information and transparency. Although the group is intent on making the rest of the world more
transparent, Anonymous is also known for being secretive in its actions, making the actions it
commits difficult to monitor and attribute to them. The Arab Springs uprising was one event in
which Anonymous took part in where most of their actions were largely unknown to the public.
However, despite the eponymous anonymity, Anonymous played a supporting role in sparking
these uprisings and maintaining attacks as they saw fit, changing the dynamic and course of the

The main reason for joining and fighting the protests against the regime was above all, for the free
flow of information (Ryan, 2011). This idea was in line with Anonymous usual reason for fighting
transparency in information, and freedom of communication. The Egyptian regime of the time had
tried to limit activism and protests by blocking certain parts of the internet, such as Facebook and
Twitter. Non coincidentally, those two social media platforms were also the main sources of both
outside communication (which helped garner international support) and internal communication
(which helped organize protests and the movement in general) (Lynch, 2016). In order to
circumvent this limitation, Anonymous helped Egyptians in a number of ways. The most
important method of assistance was to send a care packet, which consisted of a script to avoid
detection and the blockade by the government, and other instructions to do so (Ryan, 2011). When
they were unable to help certain people by communicating through the internet, Anonymous even
went as far as sending faxes for important information (Ryan,

The Torture Of Torture Hitchens Summary
In Hitchens s story, the majority of his detail is dedicated to his personal experience. Hitchens
was brave enough to actually forbearance the torture of waterboarding. I was very gentle yet
firmly grabbed from behind, pulled to my feet, pinioned by my wrist (which were then cuffed to
a belt), and cut off from sunlight by having a black hood pulled over my face. (Hitchens, page
617). At this time, the trained men are starting to put Hitchens in the first steps of the torture.
Arms already lost to me, I wasn t able to flail as I pushed onto a sloping board and positioned
with my head lower than my heart. (Hitchens, page 617). Hitchens has been placed into position
to where he cannot move, or try to fight the integrator s, to start the torturing. This is when the
water starts getting poured onto his face. The fear of drowning is an understatement when it
comes to water boarding, because drowning is actually taking place. He began to hold is breath,
for as long as he could, before having to exhale. With exhaling comes inhaling, and when he
inhaled, the hood pulled over his face began to suction to his face. The inhalation brought the
damp cloths tight against my nostrils, as if a huge, wet paw had been suddenly and annihilatingly
clamped over my face. (Hitchens, page 618). Basically, what he is saying is that the suctioning of
the hood is making it even harder to attempt to breath. With all of this being said, Hitchens did not
last long before using the pre arranged

Cycle Of Recidivism Essay
A long term study conducted by Bureau of Justice Statistics found that the average five year
recidivism rates of 404,638 prisoners released in 2005 is 76.6% among thirty states in America
(Matthew, Alexia, Howard, 2014, p. 1). In other words, most of the released prisoners did not
escape the cycle of recidivismand were sent back to the prisonafter time. This indicates that the
present American justice system, which focuses on punishment as Benson (2003) noted, fails to
rehabilitate prisoners efficiently and is far from achieving the goal of reducing crime rates (p.
46). What is more, the recidivism of prisoners is becoming a great plague of society, because it not
only imposes a threat to public safety but also places an enormous... Show more content on

Although details of Sycamore Tree projects running in different countries, such as length of the
project, are slightly different, they all aim at helping offenders realize the impact of crime and
making them become more responsible (Marshall, 2005, p. 2; Feasey Williams, 2009, p. 3;
Bakker, n.d., p. 3). It is a creative project. In daily life, victims and offenders seldom meet each
other after the court. However, this project provides a platform for victims and offenders to
communicate, to find out the distress others have experienced and to learn how to lead a better life
together. Thus, it may be a promising way to reduce re offending rates.
This project was evaluated to be effective in raising the average level of victim empathy and
lowering the average level of anticipation of re offending. However, it is not working for all
offenders, and it may increase the level of shame, which can lead to re offending. Evaluations of
Sycamore Tree projects running in the United Kingdom and New Zealand revealed that offenders
had lower anticipation of re offending and higher victim awareness after Sycamore Tree projects
(Feasey Williams, 2009, p. 17; Bakker, n.d., pp. 7 8). Although no research has been done to show
the direct impact of Sycamore Tree project on re offending rates, Pithers (1999) found that a high

This is a tall hierarchy organisation chart of Debenhams, it shows the various levels of employees.
From the chart we can see the span of control is narrow and the chain of command goes
downwards (vertical) this means starting from the top management, down to middle level managers
and ending up at lower staff; it shows who is responsible for who/who reports to who.. A tall
structuremeans lines of communication are longer, so may mean slower response to changes.

Power in role culture is decided by their place in the organisation chart.
Role Culture is from the Charles Handy Models of Organisational Culture. Organisations with a
role culture are based on rules. They are highly controlled, with everyone knowing their roles and
responsibilities. Power in a role culture is determined by a person s position (role) in the
organisational structure. (tutor2u, 2017)
Debenhams has a Role Culture because we have several different departments and each department
has a manager that is in charge of that respective department. For example: in the HR department
we ve got a manager that controls our department and team in HR.
This has a positive impact for goals and achievements to be reached as all employees are aware of
their roles and responsibilities.
Role Culture also has a positive impact on staff as it provides stability, security and continuity,
which then lowers stress levels. If staff feel secure happy, they may be more loyal to the company
with a higher morale leading to more productivity and low staff

Symbolism and Metaphor In The Humbling River by Maynard...
The questions, What does it mean to be human, and how might we transcend human nature? have
been a subject of debate for philosophical and theological thinkers for centuries. In recent history,
scientific discoveries have led to a resurgence of these ancient debates that break down into three
primary schools of thought. There are those who believe that we, like the rest of the animal
kingdom, have certain basic programming that determines our fundamental nature, and those who
believe that human beings are born tabula rasa and that nurture determines who we are. The issue
becomes increasingly complex for those with the theological belief that human beings are spiritual
creatures and that our spirituality is what defines us. However, a... Show more content on

The word home is metaphor for the greater culture to which we belong and represents the influence
of that culture on our way of thinking and acting. The sum of all of these forces then, defines who
we are as individuals and serve to define what motivates us to action, our nature. The second half of
the first stanza introduces an extended metaphor describing the motivating factor of human nature,
saying, To conquer every mountain shown (Keenan). While the word conquer, conjures up images
of imperialistic warfare, within the context of this song the word has a broader meaning and may
be more clearly understood as the will to power and the will to meaning. That is, the driving forces
of human nature are achievement, which is motivated by personal ambition to reach the highest
possible position we may accomplish, and the drive to understand the meaning of our lives. The
word mountain represents every type of obstacle that might get in the way of that goal, while the
word I directly refers to the singer and metaphorically refers to humanity as a collective of
individuals motivated by personal self interest. Taken together with the first half of this stanza, we
see the idea that the defining characteristic of human nature is to overcome, or conquer, every
obstacle that obstructs the will to power or prevents us from discovering truth. The singer then
introduces the controlling metaphor (or main theme) of the song, which is transcendence saying,

Radio Waves Significantly Impact Our Lives as Forms of...
Radio waves, a form of electromagnetic radiation, have had a significant impact on our daily life
because of their use as a form of communication. Radio waves have long wavelengths and have low
energy photon particles. Because they have low energy photons, they have lower frequencies when
compared to other forms of electromagnetic radiation, such as x rays that have a higher frequency
despite having short wavelengths. Today, radio waves are used as a method to transmit and
receive information. Technology that makes use of radio waves includes telephones, television
and more popularly known the radio, which picks up signals from a radio antenna that is
equipped with a resonator that filters the signals received and as its name implies it resonates only
with radio waves of a certain frequency; this allows people to listen to different sounds at different
frequencies. Radio waves can be emitted by objects in space, such as planets, while radio waves
that occur on Earth can come from lightning.
Because radio waves are an essential aspect of our lives astronomers have been studying radio
waves in space for a long time. While astronomers have been able to detect radio waves from
within the solar system and from within the Milky Way galaxy, they have not been able to detect
radio waves originating from distant galaxies until recently. The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) has detected radio bursts that come from outside of our galaxy. This
discovery proved

Legal, Regulatory, and Ethical Issues

marketplace and redefining the traditional organizational structure. Its economic influence has been
considerable resulting in implications for politics, society and ethics. The future for eBusiness is

Laws When Tim Berners Lee developed the World Wide Web in 1989, he wanted it to become a
communications facilitator free from regulation (Berners Lee, 1996). Unfortunately, this type of
facility is just not commercially viable. If the World Wide Web is to be successfully utilized for
eBusiness, regulatory bodies need to standardize practices across the globe. Although individual
countries have implemented laws regarding computer crimes, these laws do not affect offenders
outside of that sovereign state. International legislation must ensure security for all parties involved.
Moving towards a solution: Laws regarding intellectual property should be continuously updated
and there must be tougher penalties for online crimes. This may mean the end of Berners Lee s
regulation free vision, but it provides an opportunity for a new, eCommerce friendly online
environment. 5. Risk of Fraud Much debate about the risk of fraud in electronic B2C takes place

British Slave Trade
Slavery also increased British exports. As a result of the increased productivity and profits made
from slavery, the average British consumer had more money to spend on goods that cost less.
These forces helped to revive a slowing British economy and increased capital flows throughout the
British Empire. Cheap labor resulted in cheaper goods, and the British consumer was rewarded. As
British industries gained more profits from slave institutions, they also expanded their markets.
With the benefits achieved from slavery, British industry sold more goods to more people in more

Almost every major British industry benefitted from the increased productivity created by

the slave trade. Guns and slaves increased in direct proportion to each other. Guns, which were a
relatively advanced technology in the late 1700s, were given to African slave traders for
African slaves, since African slave owners desired guns and gunpowder to protect their
kingdoms from other rival tribes. Guns were highly sought after by African slave traders and
could be traded for more slaves than any other good. Whatley of Stanford suggests that it would
only cost around 3.5 to 4.5 pounds sterling worth of gunpowder to purchase a slave, but would
cost nearly 40 pounds sterling to buy a slave using any other good. That huge difference between
gunpowder and the alternative trade item shows how much more value slave traders placed on
guns and gunpowder than other goods. As a result, it made more economic sense to use guns and

Gas Prices Persuasive Essay
Gas is something we need in our day to day life to operate vehicles that bring us places we need

to the consumers at times, but we have to deal with it. Around the year 2012 gas was a
staggering $ 3.60 average and was $4.00 at time, the people were asking the government to
mandate gas prices. Although if the government were to mandate gas prices, the prices would be
more appealing to the consumers, but not for the long run. When the government decides to

Identity In Shakespeare s Hamlet And Henry V
At first glance, the Shakespearean plays Hamlet and Henry V are not similar. This is because they
truly are not similar not in genre, since Hamlet is a tragedy and Henry V is a historical play; not in
plot, since the protagonist in Hamlet hides in the shadows of conflict while the protagonist of
Henry V charges head first into it; and certainly not in tone, where Hamletis disastrous and Henry V
is triumphant. It is these dissimilarities of context that make Henry and Hamlet s similarities in
identity all the more interesting. Both Shakespearean protagonists are faced with extreme
circumstances, and in such extreme circumstances, they both resort to the same human
response: they question. In both plays and both characters, Shakespeare seems to explore the
depth of such questions as they pertain to human identity and as they pertain to each character s
sense of control, thus seeming to pose a question himself: what does it mean to control one s
identity? To examine Shakespeare s exploration of identity as a means of control, it is important
to understand what all constitutes each character s identity. In the case of Henry, for one, it is
apparent that the actions of his past alter his perceived identity throughout the play. Before
Henry speaks his first lines in the play, the Bishop of Ely calls Henry a true lover of the holy
Church, to which the Archbishop of Canterbury replies, The courses of [Henry s] youth
promised it not (1.1.23 24). This reckless reputation follows Henry further into the play when an
ambassador from France delivers a message to Henry from the Dauphin: ...the prince our master
says that you savor too much of your youth and bids you to be advised there s naught in France
that can be with a nimble galliard won: you cannot revel into dukedoms there (1.2.250 254). Along
with this message, the Dauphin included a gift of tennis balls meant to further insult Henry. Even
later in the play, after the English won the battle at Harfleur, the noble Frenchmen continue to
underestimate Henry s ability as a leader: What a wretched and peevish fellow is this King of
England, to mope with his fat brained followers so far out of his knowledge (3.8.120 122). What

Mona Lisa Impact On Society
I think that art can have an effect on society. There are examples of this in numerous art works.
Few works of art were painted at the right time and were able to break through enough boundaries
to change the world around them, and few artists had this skill. One of these artists is Leonardo Da
Vinci and his Masterpiece The Mona Lisa.
The most noticeable piece of art was the Mona Lisa, in the mona lisa you can see a woman who is
dressed in dark clothes, a veil covering her hair, hands crossed, with what seems like contentment
and confidence, and is staring right at us. The Mona Lisa is one of the most famous paintings in the
world. In this painting Leonardo set a new way for showcasing paintings. The view was not a

The picture of the Migrant Mother was taken by Dorothea Lange, a photographer working for
the Farm security Administration as a team of photographers documenting the impact of the
federal programs with improving rural conditions. This picture was taken in march 1936 at
Imperial valley. When this picture was taken Mrs.thompson was traveling on U.S. 101. Mrs
Thompson went to Imperial valley searching for work but was stranded because no one would
hire her so she sold the tires on her car and decided to live off the land. While her husband and
her two oldest sons went to get the cars radiator repaired the photographer Dorothea Lange was
able to capture these iconic photos. There are three pictures, for now i will be referring to the one
with Mrs. Thompson with her hand under her chin. The look of hopelessness in her eyes is an
important part to this picture and it shows how bad things were in the great depression. This
brought more public awareness to the great depression and therefore more noticeable. This picture

Franklin D. Roosevelt
In the 1930 s the United States need a president that would be able to lead the country through
the tough times of the Great Depression and World War II. Franklin D. Roosevelt was the man
who was capable to lead the country through these challenging times. Franklin Delano Roosevelt
was the adored only child of James and Sara Delano Roosevelt born on January 30, 1882 at Hyde
Park, New York. Both sides of the family, the Delano and the Roosevelt had business associates of
shipping interests in coal and railroads. They both had long English Dutch patrician pedigrees

Franklin came down with polio while at Campobello for summer vacation. Poliomyelitis (polio)
is disease that affects the muscle and the nerves and can lead to partial or full paralysis.
Symptoms of polio include fever, muscle spasms, and muscle pain. The treatment is heat pads
to reduce pain, therapy and pain killers. Franklin was paralyzed from the chest down at first than
the disease relaxed and only paralyzed him from the hips down. No one knew how polio was
contracted. It may have been because of the exhausting weeks with the Navy Administration or
from the chill he received after falling in to a cold bay while fishing. It also may have been the
combo of tiredness and the chill (Tugwell 56). Doctors were called for a diagnosis and each time
they gave a wrong diagnosis. It wasn t until two weeks after contracting the disease that a
specialist gave a correct diagnosis and it was two weeks after the specialist came that Franklin
was transported to New York for therapy (57). He was so determined to overcome his disability
that he devoted seven years of his life to grueling physical therapy (Goodwind 109). But
unfortunately he would never walk again without the help of steel braces on his legs and a strong
arm to lean on.
As Franklin was recovering Eleanor really became important to Franklin as his representative. She
made appearances to keep his name in public so that the people and the political party

A Brief Note On The Khmer Rouge Regime
T By July 1992, the Khmer Rouge regime had taken a stance of non cooperation , thus causing
no PDK forces to be demobilized. Initially, the regime was on board for the disarmament process
and agreed to allow UN forces to mark minefields and enter UN vehicles and troops into the area.
However, once the process began and outside forces were to move in, the regime refused to
allow the Dutch and Pakistani forces into the area. The situation was made more stressful by the
PDK s refusal, as demobilization of the other two factions was at a lower rate than predicted,
weakening the mission s success. By 1993, the demobilization mission of the forces was stopped
all together, resulting in the FUNCINPEC and KPNLF forces to regroup and assemble... Show more

While the years between 1993 and 1998 lacked any implementation update of demobilization in the
peace agreement, it is evident that much of what was going on in the country was due to the halt in
the demobilization process.
Discrimination and mass murders of Vietnamese in Cambodia continued, and regional data on the
minority in the country illustrates the need for external actors to intervene. Hostage situations,
ethnic murders, large scale drug smuggling, and an immigration law that targeted Vietnamese in the
country are just some of the issues occurring in these 5 years. In June 1993 the Cambodia
Constitution was adopted and signed, which established Sihanouk as now King and outlined a
series of articles that aimed to address issues across the board. The articles protected free speech,
human rights of the Khmer citizens, sovereignty of the nation, and economic policy among many
other aspects. The anti Vietnamese discrimination was rising in Cambodia, often expressed through
hate speech or propaganda of people who blamed the Vietnamese for internal problems of the
country. Vietnamese made up about 5 percent of the population, and although attacks and killings
lasted for years in this interim period and was a huge issue, the constitution still seemed to lack
efficiency in addressing this issue. By 1998, the process of demobilization began once again, this
time with a more intense, calculated time table. Along with international financial

Scarcity Of Water Essay
Leonardo da Vinci said, Water is the driving force of all nature. Most people will acknowledge
this statement because water is necessary for both life and good health. Water is an essential
ingredient of life not only for humans but also for the animals with which we share the world
and the environment that sustains our presence. This is the most pressing global issue because
when water is no longer safe to use, or is polluted, this causes problems in many other areas, such
as with general health and hygiene, child mortality, and the environmental stability for the
farming and ranching industries. According to the United Nations, forty percent of the world s
population is a victim of water scarcity, and the number is rising, which is why more recently
this issue has become prominent with the media internationally. In the end, water is how our
world survives, and when its purity is in jeopardy, so is the stability of our world. While it is
easier for someone who lives in America to see the localized water related problems in this
country, such as the droughts in California and the Flint, Michigan water quality crisis, clean
water is a worldwide issue and a preventable one. Many impoverished people must live with
unclean water due to neglect of this problem by their governing political bodies. The United
Nations reports 1,000 children dying every day from diseases caused by unclean water and
sanitation issues that are avoidable with reasonable improvements. When the

those who are really in power, in this case the ruling males of Gilead, have created a security

Interval Walking Benefits
Walking is a proven exercise that carries a wealth of benefits. However, if you want to up the
ante a little bit and gain more benefits from your walking regimen, you can do interval walking.
This is a type of walking exercise where you walk at a steady pace and then like interval training,
do short bursts of aerobic activity combined with periods of rest and recovery.
For example, if you are planning to do brisk walking for 30 minutes, you can speed up the pace
by jogging for about two to three minutes every five minute intervals. If you are on the treadmill,
do the same thing by breaking into a run or getting off the equipment and doing jumping jacks. The
same thing can be done when you are power walking two minutes of slow jogging every five
minutes. You can adjust the time intervals depending on your fitness... Show more content on

You will definitely lose weight faster if you break out of your plateau by modifying your walking
workouts this way.
Another benefit if you interval walk is increased stamina and endurance due to a strengthened
cardiovascular system. Regular walking, by itself, already reduces your risk of high blood
pressure, type 2 diabetes and heart attack. It lowers your cholesterol and blood sugar levels and
protects you from kidney diseases and the development of cancers. When you interval walk, you
enhance your cardiovascular capacity and as a result are able to reap these benefits even if you
only do the exercise in a much shorter period than what your regular walking regimen would
actually take.
Since a little high impact routine is included in interval walking, make sure that you consult with
your doctor before adding this to your workout repertoire if you have a heart or some other
medical condition. Also, wear comfortable clothing and well fitting shoes before you go out to
walk. Don t forget to bring a bottle of water with you as

Assignment 2 The Happiness Project
Assignment Two: The Happiness Project Initial Reflection
As of right now, I think I am at a good place with my feelings of happiness. Instead of feeling
sorry for myself over what I don t have, I appreciate my life and all the wonderful parts of it. I
have moments where I realize how fortunate I am for all the great opportunities I have had, along
with the people I have been blessed to have in my life. One thing I seem to be lacking is the self
motivation to work hard so I can improve the life I have. Not just for me in the present moment but
for myself in the future. I want to work on this aspect of my life, so, like a long term investment, I
can enjoy my efforts later on. I want to be at a place where I am grateful for what I have, but still

Being driven is key to accomplish what needs to be done. By needing more structure I mean that I
need to create more set times for doing what I need to do, even if I don t necessarily want to do

stay in my room most of the times and only talk to the same few people. I need to take advantage
of my time at college and experience everything the world has to offer.
Generally speaking, I think the best thing I need for myself is more self discipline. That seems
like the opposite of what is needed for happiness, but I have found myself to work well with
discipline so I can complete what needs to be done so I can truly enjoy my free time without the

Essay about Coyote And Don Maclean
Allegory of American Pie by Don McLean
A Piece of the quot;Pie quot;
Ask anyone what was the defining moment in the rock history of the 1960s was and all you will
get is a one word answer: Woodstock. The three day rock festival that defined an era was only one
of many music festivals of the
60s. But Woodstock has come to symbolize, quot;an era of peaceful, free loving, drug taking hippie
youth, carefree before harsher realities hit... quot;
(Layman 40). The Woodstock festival ended a century filled with many metamorphoses of rock n
roll, from the era of pop music to the rebirth of folk music to the invention of acid rock. But some
cynics say that rock n roll died with the death of Buddy Holly before the 60s even began.

Holly was on tour with a collection of performers, and he wanted to fly to the next stop instead of
taking the bus.
He chartered a plane and a pilot to fly him and two others to Fargo, North
Dakota (Verse 1). Originally it was to be Holly, Waylon Jennings, and
Tommy Allsup. But J.P. Richardson ( quot; The Big Bopper quot;) talked Jennings into giving him
his seat and Allsup lost his seat to Richie Valens ( quot;La
Bamba quot;) on a coin toss (Jordan). The pilot, Roger Peterson, was a visual pilot, and not
certified to fly an instrument plane flight. But on the night of
February 3, 1959 the plane when up during a flurry. The pilot lost control and while he believed he
was steering up, the plane went straight down.
When the plane crashed all four men died instantly (Jordan). The day that the plane crash henceforth
became known as quot; The day the music died quot;.
The chorus in American Pie is the main theme of the song. American Pie is the pure American art
of rock and roll. The Chevy is the icon of America.
The levee is the source of music and since the decline of original rock and roll, there is no water
(or talent) in the levee: it s dry. quot; This ll be the day that
I die, quot; was taken from a Buddy Holly song entitled quot; That ll be the Day quot; and a line in
the chorus read, quot; That ll be the day that I die, quot; (Kulawiec).

The Consequences of Responsibility in Dubliners Essay
The Consequences of Responsibility in Dubliners
James Joyce wrote a book of stories called Dubliners discussing different people s lives in
Dublin. In writing these stories, Joyce tries to portray in the characters a sense of sadness and
pressure to do what is expected in society. When he wrote the book it was during a rough time in
Dublin. Therefore, the issues that he discusses in the different stories show how the lives of the
people were not as happy as they all wished. In the stories Eveline, The Boarding House, and The

Medieval Europe And The Middle Level Of Urbanization
Medieval Europe is often discussed as a whole, but despite its connection, it is far from
homogenous. Although each country had its individual differences, it is helpful to divide Medieval
Europe into the High and Low Countries. The Low Countries had a high degree of urbanization
from the textile industry. In addition to the high level of urbanization, the Low Country was
remarkably literate. This was especially notable because it also applied largely to women of higher
and middle social strata. Women also made up the majority of the population. Elementary schools
were usually co educational, and even when it was not, there was no indication that the instruction
provided was any different. In higher education however, a gendergap was prevalent. Some schools
existed for girls, but the instruction was not as good. However, the meer existence of those schools
proves that there was a demand for them. In the Medieval Low Countries, families belonged to what
is usually called the northern or northwestern European type. These families were headed by a
nuclear couple who entered marriagelater in life. This usually occurred around twenty five years of
age for both husband and wife. Northern type families typically had few children (two or three). A
significant portion of the population never married at all. With the exception of the noble and rural
elite, all social groups in the Low Countries displayed these characteristics. This type of household

two main events changed the relationship between Middle east and Europe; Napoleonic Invasion

Egypt was a place of the oldest civilizations (4000 BC) that even Alexander s command, the Great

Turkish Ottoman (XVI century).
It Faces Napoleonic invasion in the late eighteenth century, but the framework of European
penetration is the construction of the Suez Canal (1869) and the British occupation in 1882 until
1936, when they spend to maintain troops only in the channel. In 1922 Egypt proclaims

An Article On Food Assistance Programs
Before We SNAP Food assistance programs in the United States have always generated a lot of
debate among citizens, congress, and the media. No matter which side of the fence you sit on,
the truth is that this program is designed to help those in need. According to an article in the
Washington Post, Brad Plumer states that there are at least 47 million people who collect
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program aide (Plumer), otherwise known as SNAP, from
the government. These people are collecting this in order to survive; however the United States
government has targeted SNAP in order to cut down on the national debt. Robert Rector
believes that this reform is much needed and should have been done sooner, but Dottie
Rosenbaum argues that this benefit is a necessity in the United States. Many people often think
of the negative side effects of collecting this aid, and how the bad outweighs the good. Robert
Rector is a senior researcher for Heritage.org, and believes that SNAP needs to be reformed for
the good of the nation. Robert Rector also played a vital role in the 1996 welfare reformation

GOP began distributing the full reserve of information records brought from Sony s servers with
the primary lump totaling a respectable 24.87gigs of compacted documents. Shockingly enough,
the GOP seems to have utilized bargained servers on Sony s system to transfer and seed the deluge

Imperialism Annexation
Research Question: To what extent was the annexation of the Philippines a violation of the Teller
Amendment in 1898?
Motives for Imperialism
The conquest of Africa began in 1881 when the king of Belgium sent Henry Morton Stanley to
obtain treaties with the local chiefs to create an imperialized colony triggering various European
nations to follow in the same footsteps.
In the Berlin Conference, the major European nations organized a meeting to split the Africa into
colonies amoungst themselves for economic and political purposes and United States saw
themselves falling behind the imperialist era.
Controversy struck over deciding the status of the Philippines since imperialism could possibly
open doors for new markets and trade possibilities benefiting the economy.
America s Reasons for the Annexation of the Philippines
The U.S. government were stumped with questions on deciding if the Philippines Islands should
be seized or only take the port of Manila as military base leading to major debates of the situation.
According to McKinley, Filipinos were unfit for self government and they would eventually lead
into anarchy and misrule resulting the development of the peace treaty to seize the islands.
McKinley believed the Filipinos needed to be educated and uplifted meaning they needed to be
Christianized which McKinley used as an excuse to annex the Philippines.
Suggestions rose to give back the island to Spain or give it to one of the imperial powers but

Monologue Of Cinderella Alternate Ending
One day, our new step sister, Cinderella, arrived. I was a little cautious and unsure of her at first. I
let her mind her own business, except occasionally, I did spy on her, just the see what she was
up to. I started taking a liking to her when I noticed how kind and gentle she was with the animals
that always hang around the kitchen because of the food. I couldn t believe she would be with
nature rather than playing on her phone. Then, I started thinking about Cinderella s life, and how
much we actually have in common; both of our fathers died, we both aren t very fond of our
mother, and we feel like we don t fit in with the family. Then, I decided something huge. I was
going to go talk to her. It took me a few days to understand what I... Show more content on

Cinderella walked reluctantly out of the room. When she left, it was silent for a minute and
then Drizella would not stop talking about this party. It was my hair for the party, my dress for
the party, my shoes for the party, and even my color eye shadow for the party. I was probably
just going to wear my casual loose black and pink dress. Later in the week, Cinderella comes
whizzing down the stairs at top speed, wearing this lovely blue sparkly dress, and she says
excitedly, Look at this dress! It was my mother s! Wow! You look amazing! I screamed, a bit too
loudly, back. We bounced up and down together, admiring the perfect dress. We must have been
causing quite a bit of commotion, because suddenly, Drizella comes bursting through the room.
She opens her mouth to say something, but she gets stopped by Cinderella s dress. She pauses,
unsure of what to say and then says the worst possible That dress is hideous! Where did you find
that?! In the kitchen? Drizella violently rips both of the sleeves off. Then, my mother comes into
the room. Girls, girls, let s not waste our time on her any longer. We have a ball to prepare

State Of Consciousness
In Chapter 4 the topic that is discussed is the state of conscious and the different forms. Conscious
is defined as being the immediate awareness you have of mental activity, internal sensations and
external stimuli. Circadian rhythms become regulated by the master clock or suprachiasmatic
nucleus (SCN). The SCN also reduces the amount of melatonin produced when light is detected.
Having an increased amount of melatonin causes sleepiness. The scientific understanding of sleep
has changed due to the invention of the electroencephalograph, which then produces an
electroencephalogram. The understanding of rapid eye movements also contributed the scientific
understanding of sleep. With sleep there are two types, which are REM and NREM sleep.... Show

The prisoners would be held in a single cell in block 11. Food and water were withheld from
them. Each day an SS officer would look through a peephole to see if the prisoners were still
alive. About every other day the dead bodies would be removed. Auschwitz had gas chambers
that were made to resemble showers. The unskilled people that arrived were told that they would
be cleaned and to go to the showers. When they got in the doors they were immediately locked
and the gas was turned on. In the gas chambers up to 1,500 people could be killed at one time, and
it took from 10 20 minutes for the people to die. The Nazis used a cyanide gas, which was called
Zyklon B. This type of gas was manufactured by a pest control company. Medical experiments were
done on many of the prisoners of the concentration camp, but mostly on twins, and dwarfs. The
main medical doctor that conducted these experiments was Joseph Mengel who was also known as
the Angle of death. The main types of medical experiments dealt with freezing/hypothermia,
genetics, infectious diseases, interrogation, torture, genocide, high altitude, pharmacological,
sterilization, surgery, and traumatic injuries. Freezing/hypothermia were conducted by the Nazi
high command to simulate what the armies suffered on the Eastern Front. The experiments were
divided into two parts. The first part was to determine how long that it takes to lower the body

magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear weapons, ion implantation in materials engineering, and
radiocarbon dating in geology and archaeology. Nuclear physics has a lot of importance in general
society development. Ernest Rutherford (1871 1937): Known as the father of nuclear physics,
the New Zealand born scientist was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908 for his
investigations into the disintegration of the elements, and the chemistry of radioactive
substances . Nuclear Physics as we know it today is almost a hundred years old. In 2009, we
celebrate the centenary of the publication of the results of the Geiger Marsden (or gold foil)
experiment performed at the University of Manchester. Nuclear Physics positively influences our
daily lives. There are many benefits to nuclear physics, these benefits take many forms. When done
properly it can encourage interest, develop support for the research. From fighting cancer to
assuring safety of food, to protecting our borders, nuclear physics impacts the lives of everyone

A Realistic Perspective on Forensic Science Forensic science is typically viewed as a drama filled,
intense storyline. These misleading story lines include insufficient data, false heroism, unrealistic

criminology and toxicology. In a more realistic view, forensic sciencehas many branches for
determining different subjects, requires lots of training to produce precise conclusions, and have
the ability to prove relevance, with details. Criminology or toxicology does not make up forensic
science. There are several branches that one can go into based on their career. Some examples are

believe it was his cousin that sold them out, believing that you do not betray your family. Then
Pete s cousin says to them I have to look out for my own . This leads to an enraged Pete to refer
to him as Judas , for betraying him and his friends. This scene describes the concept of goodness
of humanity in American culture by showing the opposite of what it means. The goodness of
humanity is almost uniquely American as compared to older societies, in that Americans mostly
assume that people are national good rather than evil. When the company and Pete first escape
from prison Pete trusted his cousin to keep them safe because they are family and breaking that
trust would be wrong. But when the cousin of Pete breaks that bond of trust, Pete is outraged that
he did it, however, he is even more outraged at what Everett did. He stole a pocket watch that while

(ABV) calculation wasn t calculated close to the ethanol results. Both results had the same,
where the control had a higher percentage of ethanol produced rather than the variable. Another
trend was both ethanol and ABV results had close to the same difference of ethanol produced
for the controlled which was around 3.5%. This data doesn t fit the research, as it shows that the
more sugar added to alcohol the more ethanol is produced. The results above prove that this
statement is wrong as the ethanol results show that the control has 3.5% more and for the ABV
3.41% more ethanol produced which is wrong as the variable should ve produced more alcohol
as there is more dextrose (+200g) added to it. When comparing the class data for the ethanol

less ethanol produced. Where as all the groups who increased the sugar volume ended up as the

  • 2. Harry Potter Heroic Monomyth Essay Books and movies, young and old, generally follow the same path. This path is called heroic monomyth in which the hero undergoes many tasks and is most likely accompanied by a friend and meets new trials along the way. In the novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by J.K. Rowling, the character Harry Potter displays multiple counts of heroic monomyth through the call to adventure, supernatural aid, and crossing the threshold. In the novel, the call to adventure is present in multiple ways. First, an unusual letter shows up at the Dursley s home one day. This letter, unlike all of the other letters and various mail, was addressed to Harry Potter. Yet here it was, a letter, addressed so plainly there could be no mistake... (Rowling 34). It was also made of strange parchment paper, and signed in emerald which made it stand out. This letter was calling Potter to Hogwarts School of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Potter s supernatural aid would be considered Rubeus Hagrid, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. Granger and Weasley are Potter s closest friends throughout the whole novel. They are in his house, Gryffindor, and they help him along his quest. One example of how they aid him through the journey is when they help Harry Potter to get to the sorcerer s stone before professor Snape can. Potter tells them that it is okay if they want to stay behind and maybe they even should, but Weasley contradicts Potter by saying, Oh, come off it, you don t think we d let you go alone (Rowling 271). Granger then agrees with Weasley and Potter allows them to come along and help them to get through the six obstacles leading to the sorcerer s stone. The door was hit with such force that it swung clean off its hinges and with a defeating crash landed flat on the floor. A giant man was standing in the doorway (Rowling 47) Hagrid is an enormous person who is powerful. He uses his advantage of being strong to assist Potter on his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Man s nature is not abstract; a characteristic of a certain individual. Actually it is the totally of all the social relations (Marx). Marx s studies the theory of the individual and mainly focus in three areas, which are the complete development of the individual, the problems of alienation and freedom. Labour for the worker is something external not belonging to his nature...in his labour he does not affirm himself, but denies himself, feels not happy, but unhappy, does not develop freely his physical and spiritual energy but wears out his physical nature and destroys his spiritual force. This is why the worker feels that he is himself only outside of working hours in the process of labour he feels he is estranged from himself. He is himself when he is not working, and when he works he is already not himself. (Marx) Marx explains the idea in how the labor workers do not own they own work. • 5. Blackfeet Indians Argumentative Essay Generally when one thinks of the American west their mind jumps to an image of untouched, unspoiled land, such as the land that is represented by America s national parks. These tourist destinations in the West showcase the history of our nation s land in a way that many people assume is and has always been the reality, but although the natural beauty of these lands is represented perhaps the beauty of the cultures that used to inhabit them is not. The Blackfeet Indians once occupied a large portion of what is now Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana, but as the Whiteman moved west and began to modernize, this sacred land was invaded. Strategic intelligence gives employees, board members, and investors a new set of criteria for gauging the ability of leaders, to put aside seductive promises, a track record in an unrelated industry, and overall charisma in favor of the skills needed to both construct a strategic vision and turn it into a reality. Two questions are the focus of chapter 5: Why would anyone want to subject him or herself to working with a productive narcissist and, having decided to align yourself with one, how do you work for, with, or around him without losing your mind or letting your own ego take a battering? • 8. The Effects Of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation ( Nmes... The impact of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on markers of recovery following intensive, muscle damaging training Introduction For many sports with congested fixtures recovery between games is very important to ensure players are at their best for the matches. An example of a period where this is particularly true is the Christmas period with football with most teams facing a high number of games in a short period, sometimes only 2 days between games. Without proper recovery modalities players, can suffer from delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and from a study by Cheung, Hume Maxwell (2003) it was found that DOMS reduces athletic performance due to the muscle soreness and the damage done to the muscle and caused a decrease in strength and power, with a greater effect on strength and power during eccentric contractions. A study by Byrne, Twist and Eston (2004) discussed the muscle damage caused by high force eccentric exercise. They found that the stretch shortening cycle(SSC) what occurs during a drop jump, causes muscle damage in the muscle and therefore contributes to DOMS and is similar to the damage done by running. The appearance of Creatine Kinase in the blood following exercise has been used as an indirect measure of muscle damage and a study by Clarkson Hubal (2002) looked into various different markers of muscle damage in the blood and CK was investigated compared to other blood markers they found CK increase much more relative to other ... • 9. Shirley Jackson s The Lottery Typically, when one hears the word lottery, they think about someone winning a desirable prize. Unfortunately, this is not the case in a small American town that Shirley Jackson introduces us to in her novel, The Lottery . In this novel, readers get to know a patriarch community that takes part in an unusual annual tradition. In this tradition, the town gathers to play a game. The head of each family in the town draws a slip from a black box. One of the slips in the black box contains a black dot. This game is the town s form of a lottery; who ever draws the dotted slip will be stoned to death by the other town members. The story starts off serene and idyllic but by the end readers witness a murder. Shirley Jacksons, The Lottery, shows how people often hold on to traditions even when they are barbaric and have lost their meaning. She does this by showing readers that members of the society will hold on to inhumane practices simply because the practice is considered tradition. In this exploration of this towns traditional lottery , Jackson leads the reader down a savage story line. Jackson is able to draw on the ethnic appeal by focusing on the very moment of the stoning. After the stoning, the reader is able to look back and see several details they might have missed or overlooked. The tradition has taken control of the community members. Although the group is intent on making the rest of the world more transparent, Anonymous is also known for being secretive in its actions, making the actions it commits difficult to monitor and attribute to them. The Arab Springs uprising was one event in which Anonymous took part in where most of their actions were largely unknown to the public. The main reason for joining and fighting the protests against the regime was above all, for the free flow of information (Ryan, 2011). This idea was in line with Anonymous usual reason for fighting transparency in information, and freedom of communication. The Egyptian regime of the time had tried to limit activism and protests by blocking certain parts of the internet, such as Facebook and Twitter. Non coincidentally, those two social media platforms were also the main sources of both outside communication (which helped garner international support) and internal communication (which helped organize protests and the movement in general) (Lynch, 2016). In order to circumvent this limitation, Anonymous helped Egyptians in a number of ways. The most important method of assistance was to send a care packet, which consisted of a script to avoid detection and the blockade by the government, and other instructions to do so (Ryan, 2011). When they were unable to help certain people by communicating through the internet, Anonymous even went as far as sending faxes for important information (Ryan, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Torture Of Torture Hitchens Summary In Hitchens s story, the majority of his detail is dedicated to his personal experience. Hitchens was brave enough to actually forbearance the torture of waterboarding. I was very gentle yet firmly grabbed from behind, pulled to my feet, pinioned by my wrist (which were then cuffed to a belt), and cut off from sunlight by having a black hood pulled over my face. (Hitchens, page 617). At this time, the trained men are starting to put Hitchens in the first steps of the torture. Arms already lost to me, I wasn t able to flail as I pushed onto a sloping board and positioned with my head lower than my heart. (Hitchens, page 617). Hitchens has been placed into position to where he cannot move, or try to fight the integrator s, to start the torturing. This is when the water starts getting poured onto his face. The fear of drowning is an understatement when it comes to water boarding, because drowning is actually taking place. He began to hold is breath, for as long as he could, before having to exhale. With exhaling comes inhaling, and when he inhaled, the hood pulled over his face began to suction to his face. The inhalation brought the damp cloths tight against my nostrils, as if a huge, wet paw had been suddenly and annihilatingly clamped over my face. (Hitchens, page 618). Basically, what he is saying is that the suctioning of the hood is making it even harder to attempt to breath. • 12. Cycle Of Recidivism Essay A long term study conducted by Bureau of Justice Statistics found that the average five year recidivism rates of 404,638 prisoners released in 2005 is 76.6% among thirty states in America (Matthew, Alexia, Howard, 2014, p. 1). In other words, most of the released prisoners did not escape the cycle of recidivismand were sent back to the prisonafter time. This indicates that the present American justice system, which focuses on punishment as Benson (2003) noted, fails to rehabilitate prisoners efficiently and is far from achieving the goal of reducing crime rates (p. 46). What is more, the recidivism of prisoners is becoming a great plague of society, because it not only imposes a threat to public safety but also places an enormous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although details of Sycamore Tree projects running in different countries, such as length of the project, are slightly different, they all aim at helping offenders realize the impact of crime and making them become more responsible (Marshall, 2005, p. 2; Feasey Williams, 2009, p. 3; Bakker, n.d., p. 3). It is a creative project. In daily life, victims and offenders seldom meet each other after the court. However, this project provides a platform for victims and offenders to communicate, to find out the distress others have experienced and to learn how to lead a better life together. Thus, it may be a promising way to reduce re offending rates. This project was evaluated to be effective in raising the average level of victim empathy and lowering the average level of anticipation of re offending. However, it is not working for all offenders, and it may increase the level of shame, which can lead to re offending. Evaluations of Sycamore Tree projects running in the United Kingdom and New Zealand revealed that offenders had lower anticipation of re offending and higher victim awareness after Sycamore Tree projects (Feasey Williams, 2009, p. 17; Bakker, n.d., pp. 7 8). Although no research has been done to show the direct impact of Sycamore Tree project on re offending rates, Pithers (1999) found that a high level of victim empathy ... (tutor2u, 2017) Debenhams has a Role Culture because we have several different departments and each department has a manager that is in charge of that respective department. For example: in the HR department we ve got a manager that controls our department and team in HR. This has a positive impact for goals and achievements to be reached as all employees are aware of their roles and responsibilities. • 15. Symbolism and Metaphor In The Humbling River by Maynard... The questions, What does it mean to be human, and how might we transcend human nature? have been a subject of debate for philosophical and theological thinkers for centuries. In recent history, scientific discoveries have led to a resurgence of these ancient debates that break down into three primary schools of thought. There are those who believe that we, like the rest of the animal kingdom, have certain basic programming that determines our fundamental nature, and those who believe that human beings are born tabula rasa and that nurture determines who we are. The issue becomes increasingly complex for those with the theological belief that human beings are spiritual creatures and that our spirituality is what defines us. However, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word home is metaphor for the greater culture to which we belong and represents the influence of that culture on our way of thinking and acting. The sum of all of these forces then, defines who we are as individuals and serve to define what motivates us to action, our nature. The second half of the first stanza introduces an extended metaphor describing the motivating factor of human nature, saying, To conquer every mountain shown (Keenan). While the word conquer, conjures up images of imperialistic warfare, within the context of this song the word has a broader meaning and may be more clearly understood as the will to power and the will to meaning. That is, the driving forces of human nature are achievement, which is motivated by personal ambition to reach the highest possible position we may accomplish, and the drive to understand the meaning of our lives. The word mountain represents every type of obstacle that might get in the way of that goal, while the word I directly refers to the singer and metaphorically refers to humanity as a collective of individuals motivated by personal self interest. Taken together with the first half of this stanza, we see the idea that the defining characteristic of human nature is to overcome, or conquer, every obstacle that obstructs the will to power or prevents us from discovering truth. The singer then introduces the controlling metaphor (or main theme) of the song, which is transcendence saying, But I ve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Radio Waves Significantly Impact Our Lives as Forms of... Radio waves, a form of electromagnetic radiation, have had a significant impact on our daily life because of their use as a form of communication. Radio waves have long wavelengths and have low energy photon particles. Because they have low energy photons, they have lower frequencies when compared to other forms of electromagnetic radiation, such as x rays that have a higher frequency despite having short wavelengths. Today, radio waves are used as a method to transmit and receive information. Technology that makes use of radio waves includes telephones, television and more popularly known the radio, which picks up signals from a radio antenna that is equipped with a resonator that filters the signals received and as its name implies it resonates only with radio waves of a certain frequency; this allows people to listen to different sounds at different frequencies. Radio waves can be emitted by objects in space, such as planets, while radio waves that occur on Earth can come from lightning. Because radio waves are an essential aspect of our lives astronomers have been studying radio waves in space for a long time. While astronomers have been able to detect radio waves from within the solar system and from within the Milky Way galaxy, they have not been able to detect radio waves originating from distant galaxies until recently. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has detected radio bursts that come from outside of our galaxy. This discovery proved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lack of regulatory Laws When Tim Berners Lee developed the World Wide Web in 1989, he wanted it to become a communications facilitator free from regulation (Berners Lee, 1996). Unfortunately, this type of facility is just not commercially viable. If the World Wide Web is to be successfully utilized for eBusiness, regulatory bodies need to standardize practices across the globe. Although individual countries have implemented laws regarding computer crimes, these laws do not affect offenders outside of that sovereign state. International legislation must ensure security for all parties involved. Moving towards a solution: Laws regarding intellectual property should be continuously updated and there must be tougher penalties for online crimes. This may mean the end of Berners Lee s regulation free vision, but it provides an opportunity for a new, eCommerce friendly online environment. 5. As a result of the increased productivity and profits made from slavery, the average British consumer had more money to spend on goods that cost less. These forces helped to revive a slowing British economy and increased capital flows throughout the British Empire. Cheap labor resulted in cheaper goods, and the British consumer was rewarded. As British industries gained more profits from slave institutions, they also expanded their markets. With the benefits achieved from slavery, British industry sold more goods to more people in more locations. Sales of commodities also became more common, enabling further economic development. Almost every major British industry benefitted from the increased productivity created by slavery. Gun manufacturing was one of the first major industries to receive direct benefits from the slave trade. Guns and slaves increased in direct proportion to each other. Guns, which were a relatively advanced technology in the late 1700s, were given to African slave traders for African slaves, since African slave owners desired guns and gunpowder to protect their kingdoms from other rival tribes. Guns were highly sought after by African slave traders and could be traded for more slaves than any other good. Whatley of Stanford suggests that it would only cost around 3.5 to 4.5 pounds sterling worth of gunpowder to purchase a slave, but would cost nearly 40 pounds sterling to buy a slave using any other good. That huge difference between gunpowder and the alternative trade item shows how much more value slave traders placed on guns and gunpowder than other goods. Around the year 2012 gas was a staggering $ 3.60 average and was $4.00 at time, the people were asking the government to mandate gas prices. There are many debates arguing about how much power the government has over us. Giving them the opportunity to mandate gasoline is giving them even more power. • 20. Identity In Shakespeare s Hamlet And Henry V At first glance, the Shakespearean plays Hamlet and Henry V are not similar. This is because they truly are not similar not in genre, since Hamlet is a tragedy and Henry V is a historical play; not in plot, since the protagonist in Hamlet hides in the shadows of conflict while the protagonist of Henry V charges head first into it; and certainly not in tone, where Hamletis disastrous and Henry V is triumphant. It is these dissimilarities of context that make Henry and Hamlet s similarities in identity all the more interesting. Both Shakespearean protagonists are faced with extreme circumstances, and in such extreme circumstances, they both resort to the same human response: they question. In both plays and both characters, Shakespeare seems to explore the depth of such questions as they pertain to human identity and as they pertain to each character s sense of control, thus seeming to pose a question himself: what does it mean to control one s identity? To examine Shakespeare s exploration of identity as a means of control, it is important to understand what all constitutes each character s identity. In the case of Henry, for one, it is apparent that the actions of his past alter his perceived identity throughout the play. Before Henry speaks his first lines in the play, the Bishop of Ely calls Henry a true lover of the holy Church, to which the Archbishop of Canterbury replies, The courses of [Henry s] youth promised it not (1.1.23 24). This reckless reputation follows Henry further into the play when an ambassador from France delivers a message to Henry from the Dauphin: ...the prince our master says that you savor too much of your youth and bids you to be advised there s naught in France that can be with a nimble galliard won: you cannot revel into dukedoms there (1.2.250 254). Along with this message, the Dauphin included a gift of tennis balls meant to further insult Henry. Even later in the play, after the English won the battle at Harfleur, the noble Frenchmen continue to underestimate Henry s ability as a leader: What a wretched and peevish fellow is this King of England, to mope with his fat brained followers so far out of his knowledge (3.8.120 122). Hostage situations, ethnic murders, large scale drug smuggling, and an immigration law that targeted Vietnamese in the country are just some of the issues occurring in these 5 years. In June 1993 the Cambodia Constitution was adopted and signed, which established Sihanouk as now King and outlined a series of articles that aimed to address issues across the board. The anti Vietnamese discrimination was rising in Cambodia, often expressed through hate speech or propaganda of people who blamed the Vietnamese for internal problems of the country. • 25. Scarcity Of Water Essay Leonardo da Vinci said, Water is the driving force of all nature. Most people will acknowledge this statement because water is necessary for both life and good health. Water is an essential ingredient of life not only for humans but also for the animals with which we share the world and the environment that sustains our presence. This is the most pressing global issue because when water is no longer safe to use, or is polluted, this causes problems in many other areas, such as with general health and hygiene, child mortality, and the environmental stability for the farming and ranching industries. According to the United Nations, forty percent of the world s population is a victim of water scarcity, and the number is rising, which is why more recently this issue has become prominent with the media internationally. In the end, water is how our world survives, and when its purity is in jeopardy, so is the stability of our world. While it is easier for someone who lives in America to see the localized water related problems in this country, such as the droughts in California and the Flint, Michigan water quality crisis, clean water is a worldwide issue and a preventable one. As a result of being located on the brink of catastrophe ranging from the previously expanding powers of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum and the European Crusaders, to the rise of the Mongols from the East and the Mamluks from Egypt, Cilician Armenia s rise and abrupt fall was inevitable. • 36. Medieval Europe And The Middle Level Of Urbanization Medieval Europe is often discussed as a whole, but despite its connection, it is far from homogenous. Although each country had its individual differences, it is helpful to divide Medieval Europe into the High and Low Countries. The Low Countries had a high degree of urbanization from the textile industry. In addition to the high level of urbanization, the Low Country was remarkably literate. This was especially notable because it also applied largely to women of higher and middle social strata. Women also made up the majority of the population. Elementary schools were usually co educational, and even when it was not, there was no indication that the instruction provided was any different. In higher education however, a gendergap was prevalent. Some schools existed for girls, but the instruction was not as good. However, the meer existence of those schools proves that there was a demand for them. In the Medieval Low Countries, families belonged to what is usually called the northern or northwestern European type. These families were headed by a nuclear couple who entered marriagelater in life. This usually occurred around twenty five years of age for both husband and wife. Northern type families typically had few children (two or three). A significant portion of the population never married at all. Poe turned to alcohol to cope with her illness and the stress of his dying wife. Two years later, Virginia died of tuberculosis, and Poe s own death would follow shortly two years after that.
