Critical Analysis The Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner
A Doomed Fate A Critical Analysis of Three Messages in Randall Jarrell s, Gunner Douglas
MacArthur, an American general during World War II, described those who fight in war as, The
soldier, above all others, prays for peace; for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the
deepest wounds and scars of war. Throughout history, war has been a part of every nation. From
medieval times to present day, there have been a countless number of wars fought and even more
human lives lost. Many short stories and poems have been written about the hard times of war, but
none have been quite as inspirational as Randall Jarrell s, The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner.
This five line poem described what it was like to be a ball turret gunner during... Show more content

These men, such as the ball turret gunners, were of the most brave and fearless men to serve for
the United States. Often, a person would think that no one would wish to be tasked with the
mission of being a ball turret gunner; however, according to the article, How to Become a Ball
Turret Gunner and Dr. Tim McGee, the waiting list to become a ball turret gunner was the
longest in World War II. The article states, The men who served as gunners in World War II
understood the dangers of the job they were signing themselves up for (David Sears). These men
knew that they would be facing certain death if they chose to take position on the belly of an
American army plane. Jarrell writes, Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life... (3).
No man who signed up for this horrendous job expected to live more than three air trips. This
just goes to prove how crucial it is to appreciate those who are willing to risk their lives just so
others do not have to suffer. The last, and possibly most heartbreaking message in, The Death of
the Ball Turret Gunner, is that no one is guaranteed a life on this earth tomorrow. During hard war
times, such as World War II, thousands of young soldiers are called upon to fight for their nation
whether or not they believe in what they re fighting for. While some were deathly afraid to serve
during the war,

Examining The Functional Connectivity Of A Whole Brain Atlas
Background: The brain is often considered the most complex organ in the human body. It is also the
most difficult to understand, given the vast array of different functions spread throughout its mass
and the interconnected functionality of its regions that makes subdividing it based on form or
function a difficult task. Craddock, et al. (2012), in the article examined, attempt to produce a
method for further examining the functional connectivity (FC) of the regions of the brainand
subdivide them based on spatial positioning and function. Understanding FC in the brain can
significantly improve understanding of many brain functions and the effect of outside stimulus
of various parts of the brain. This examination will only be able to take place by creating an
accurate whole brain atlas. This creation of a whole brain atlas, or a map of the brain separating
it into regions of interest (ROI) based positioning and/or function, has typically been done via
fMRI analysis of the brain combined with an anatomically based mapping procedure. This study
seeks to use fMRI technology combined with an algorithm to create voxel clusters or ROI s that
optimize both spatial coherence and homogeneity in regards to the FC of the individual ROIs that
can closely match of the results of a voxel wise analysis, while improving on computation power
required and interpretability.
Clinical Significance: The usefulness of this technology and methodology can be found in both

The South, By Jorge Luis Borges
The opening and closing scenes of the short story The South in the book Ficciones by Jorge Luis
Borges have a large degree of influence on the way the reader experiences the story itself. The
opening scene, for example, very much sets the tone and foreshadows future event in the story
through an introductory description of the character of Dahlmann and his background. The
closing scene, on the other hand, holds a good deal of significance because it contributes a good
deal of ambiguity to the ending, as it is not known if Dahlmann died in the knife fight, died back
at the hospital, or died at all. Altogether, the opening and closing scenes both contribute to the
reader s experience of the book greatly as they gave necessary context to... Show more content on

It does this simply through very careful word choice, as it says he felt that if he choose, then, or to
dream his death, this would have been the death he would ve chosen or dreamt . The passage, as
shown above, uses the words dream die and dream in order to evoke a feeling of insecurity
within the reader, causing them to wonder if all of theses events within the South of Argentina
were simply a dream of his while he s still in the hospital, either dead or dying, in order to fulfill
his wish that he never could before. Also, it gives the option that he truly did make it to the South
but was killed in the knife fight and is dreaming about him walking away from it unharmed right
before he dies. Altogether, the function of the last paragraph is to cause the reader to think
critically and examine details of the story more closely to draw the conclusion of the story
themselves, as to when and where Dahlmann actually died and where the story itself shifts from
reality to fantasy. In conclusion, the opening and closing sentences of the short story The South
hold a fairly large significance on the reader s understanding and experience of the events within
the stories. The opening provides a cultural background and character development that adds to a
prospective reader s understanding of the story while the closing give a sense of ambiguity to the
story and causes the reader to analyze the story more

The Fantasy Story
Today I #8217;d like to tell you about fantasy literature. It is very hard to tell all about it but I
#8217;ll try to do it as good as possible and not being boring. First fantasy motifs were shown in
romanticism. We all know the mystical and unreal characters: ghosts, phantoms etc. Authors for
building the special mood and charm of that epoch used that figures.
But fantasy is something more than romantic ways of showing nature or inner experiences of the
main character in the novel. It #8217;s also not an attempt of explaining the unreal and difficult to
understand visions or event. In the course of time it began to live it #8217;s own life more and
more the writers started to use these motifs. And what had happened? They created... Show more

But one day, after many happy years on the throne, they got lost in a forest. While walking the
trees became coats and they suddenly fell out of the closet. Long years in Narnia were just few
minutes in the human world. Children have big imagination so crossing the line between
fantasies and real is not a problem, but it is a big challenge for readers. Lewis created the magic
land and as he once said: #8221;even if all of that is imagined #8211; trees, grass, sun, moon,
stars and Aslan, there is no doubt: this imagined world is much better then the real one #8221;.
The next kinds, beloved by fantasy fans are #8220;never lands #8221;. They are perfectly
defined by one of first never lands creators Lord Dunsany. He named it as places #8220;beyond
the fields we know #8221;. And we are really crossing the line of human perception. Authors don
#8217;t blink their eye, don #8217;t pretend like in the Venice carnival. Not everything is from
the beginning land of fantasy. Tolkien made never lands legal, gave them autonomy and
independence, full rights in authors imagination. He said that artistic imagination has no borders
and cannot be restricted by what is real. We can see what we want to see, also the land of never.
Never lands can use the cultural heritage of our world, but it all depends on the author. Of course
playing in never lands must be based on understanding and agreement between writer and reader,
we have to accept all the rules and it

The Car Man By Matthew Christopher Bourne
Matthew Christopher Bourne
Born 13th. January, 1960, London.
British dancer and choreographer.
His parents were June and Jim Bourne and he had a brother Dan. His mother was a secretary and
his father worked for Thames Water for 30 years. When 12 or 13 he and his friend Simon Carter
waited to get the autographs of actors outside the Apollo, Lyric, Palace, or Queens theatres. He
attended a Methodist run youth club which had a choir and he put on his versions of musicals.

In The Car Man, Bourne, who calls Los Angeles his second home, has written his first work set on
American soil. Though inspired by and set to music from Bizet s Carmen, incorporated into Terry
Davies and
Rodion Shchedrin s Carmen Suite, images are also drawn from The
Postman Always Rings Twice and A Streetcar Named Desire. There s also a strong whiff of
Tennessee Williams earlier play, Orpheus Descending.
Set in a small mid West town called Harmony in the mid 1960s, the focus is on sexual obsession.
Bourne catches the feel of a small town exploding with raging hormones and no distractions.
The mechanics at Dino s Garage and the waitresses at Dino s CafГ© express themselves by hip
pumping and hip twitching respectively. The boys alternative sport is tormenting more sensitive
souls. Into this charged atmosphere strolls Luca, a drifter. Employed by Dino at his garage, Luca
is a dancing phallus. He not only seduces Dino s wife,
Lana, but also has a one night stand with Angelo, the gentle boyfriend of Lana s sister Rita, who is
the butt of merciless hazing by the town studs until Luca rescues him. The hitherto repressed
homosexuality of

Friedrich Nietzsche, The German Philosopher
Tia Holenstein Professor Tevanyan RS 100 20 October 2015 Nietzsche and Agnosticism I chose
to conduct my research on Friedrich Nietzsche, the German philosopher. One of the main
reasons I decided on him, is because of my personal beliefs. I am agnostic and Nietzsche s
philosophy has an atheistic view on religion, which I resonate with. Nietzsche was born in a
small village in Germany on October 15th 1844. He often spoke of an idea called life
affirmation , which basically means questioning everything honestly. He is one of the most
famous philosophers and he had an interesting look at philosophy. He believed philosophy was
not a critique of words by means of other words (untimely meditations) but it is a practical way to
help your self grow, overcome and become a greater person. By doing this one would be able to
affirm life no matter what tragedies you are faced with, There are heights of the soul from which
even tragedy ceases to look tragic (Beyond Good and Evil). He considered himself to be a teacher
to these great individuals or the higher man his target audience. Inside the higher man there are
different instincts/drives that are forever battling making them a chaotic being. This results in
suffering and possible self destruction. To reach life affirmation one must take hold of this chaos
inside of them. Because that isn t an easy thing to do, a person might give in to a Herd Instinct .
The Herd instinct exists in everyone and is easy to fall into. It is

feature is the destructives that Bellamy perceived through the society of social and economic

solve problems of social equality. The next few paragraphs will summarize Bellamy s thoughts and
opinions on social, economic and political changes. In chapters one through seven, it explains...

They both emblematize the readers as artifacts of the nineteenth century civilization. Julian was
concerned about the twentieth century association dealing with the problem of motivating workers
to do their greatest at their tasks. Julian s belief was that workers won t do their job right if they are
the same and get the same credit at the end of the year. During the crisis of the nineteenth century,
compensation and the hazard of starvation provided the motivation towards the citizens to work
hard at their jobs. If they didn t, they would get fired from not working hard enough and be replaced
with someone who can. Doctor Leete clarifies that chaste values regarding tasks have changed by
citizens who do their absolute greatest and they are able to receive the same amount of credit as
everybody else. Employees who do their job right are considered to be loyal towards the society.
With individualism as a choice in the nineteenth century and the twentieth century choses
community and cooperation, citizens think that they should do their task in order to bequest to the
common good throughout their diligence. The twentieth century has fitted individualism because
employees feel dignified with extraordinary apperception for their decent actions through a
standardized ranking system. The economy of the nineteenth century disposed incapability and

Abstract
Quality Control plays a major role in the success of a Company. GE is a prime example of a
company implementing procedure and maintaining high quality to provide consumers what they
are looking for and making every dollar count. Six Sigma and its key concepts contribute to the
success of any company. Control Charts provide dominance in measuring variances and help
prevent problems. Employee empowerment is another tool extremely vital to the success of a

Process capability is the skill that you have outfitted your product with. The better the product is
outfitted the better the product will function and the better satisfied the consumer will be. If the
improvement are maintained over the period of the company s success, the more successful the
company will be.
Variation is the difference from what the customer actually feels and what they see. The closer the
feel and the look of the product the better the product will be. Stable operation is the dependable
and expected process that is used to improve what the customer gets. Last but not least, the design
for Six Sigma is the spine of the process that continues meeting customers needs. These concepts
working together is what GE s quality control process is set out to achieve
GE utilizes quality control tools in order to provide the consumers with the products they are used
to getting when we purchase a GE product. These tools include control charts, defect measurements,
root cause analysis, and statistical process controls. Control charts keep an eye on differences that
may happen during the production. It also provides the company unforeseen inconsistency which
may cause the process to produce flawed goods. Control charts are an extremely dominant tool
when measuring variances and prevents a problem before it get out of control. Defect
measurements are report that keeps track of how many defects occur during the production process,

Osama Bin Laden
Osama bin Laden s hatred towards the United States drove him to do horrifying and unreasonable
things. This is one example of why I believe mankind in inherently evil.
The human world, it s a mess.. (Sebastian) This quote said by Sebastian the crab from the movie
The Little Mermaid. And the reason I chose to open up this essay with it is because it s true. The
human world is corrupted and full of sin, lust, pride, selfishness, hatred, jealousy, arrogance,
rudeness, and so many other evil things.
There are many people I can use as an example to support my argument. But Osama bin Laden
stood out to me the most. Not only did he kill thousands of people, he planned the whole entire

and Tanzania. These bombings are known today as the Embassy Bombings. This was what caught
the attention of the American population. After noticing Osama s group as a threat President
Clinton ordered retaliation missiles against Afghanistan. (Bodansky)
When you say Osama bin laden people immediately associate the name with the 9/11 attacks. This
man was responsible for it. On September 11, 2001 nineteen hijackers took over four flights. Their
targets were The World Trade Center in New York City and The Pentagon near Washington, D.C.
At around 8:45am the first plane hit the North Tower. Killing about 1,400 people. When people
saw this they immediately thought it was just a mistake. Then at 9:03am the second plane crashes
into the South Tower. As soon as this happened people began to understand that this was no
accident. At 9:37am Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon. It is safe to say that these attacks caused
mass chaos. Approximately 2,606 people were killed in the Tower attacks and all 64 passengers
and 125 employees were killed in the Pentagon attack.
According to bin Laden, The reason for killing Americans was because of the jihad , which means
religious war. Bin laden stated, the U.S as the worst civilization by history of mankind. He went on

Theme Of Syntax In The Great Gatsby

Analysis of The Great Gatsby
The author of The Great Gatsby was F. Scott Fitzgerland whose usage of diction, image, details,
figurative language and different type of structures of the sentence(syntax) creates the passage more
visible and understandable. For example, the author uses a word the valley of ashes to describe the
valley. Furthermore, he creates an image in the reader s mind with descriptive and concise words
for the valley in the better structure of the sentence. Besides, he also uses the figurative language to
create a better image that helps the reader to comprehend the story. Moreover, he uses detail such as
the eye of doctor T.J. are blue and gigantic, to convince the reader to ponder about how important it
is to the story. Overall, the author presented the finest story using his different techniques of writing
which assists the readers to understand the significance of incomplete goals that the main character
had.
Diction is a word that holds strong meaning to the passage or text. Similarly, the author of the Great
Gatsby uses a word to describe the whole valley as the valley of ashes in the passage.
Furthermore, his descriptive clue and supporting details acknowledge the audiences that the valley
is filled with the ashes. Another example of the usage of diction is an ash gray man. The author
used a color, gray, to refer the people of the valley and the word gray which resemble the ashes,
also support what the

How Social And Political Procedures Affects Resilience At...
This paper has demonstrated and examines how series of social and political procedure affects
resilience at various spatial scales. Resilience is defined as the ability of individuals or
communities to withstand and rebound from sudden natural disaster [earthquake, flood or
hurricane] that accounts for the loss of life and properties. However, the definition of resilience
is broad as resilience thinkers [Charles Holling and Neil Adger] have argued differently. For
example, Holling defines resilience as the ability of a system to absorb change of state variable,
driving variables, and parameters, and still persist (Holling, 1973), while Adger, defines resilience
as the ability of groups or communities to cope with external stresses and disturbances as a result
of social, political and environmental change (Adger, 2000). Understandably, thinker like Adger and
Holling as Climate Changethinkers within the academic space have a different opinion to what
constitutes the impact of climatechange and best possible approaches needed towards building
resilience within social and political frameworks.
This paper argues prevalently that, resilience is shaped by social and political discourse
emphasizing on vulnerability and climate change adaptation methods such as Livelihood and
Economic Diversification (LED) and Community based adaptation (CBA). The essay further argues
that resilience is debated at multi levels [local, state, and global] but global policy makers often
dominate the

Dengue Fever an Article by John P. Cuhna
Identifying the preliminary issue In his article Dengue Fever John P. Cuhna describes Dengue
fever, also known as breakbone or dandy fever , as, a family of viruses that are transmitted
through mosquitos . This disease is very common in tropic and subtropic areas such as Brazil.
Dengue Fever has no vaccination and the only way to prevent is to avoid getting bit by a mosquito
that carries the disease. The disease comes from a mosquito known as the Aedesaegypti (Halstead,
2008). Since the climate and amount of rainfall are two key factors in the reproduction of the Aedes
aegyptiglobal warming and climate change have been playing a role in the dengue fevercases (
Halstead, 2008). This is a struggle for people who live in lower income and over populated areas
since they have little to no form of protection and live in less cleanly areas. No one is exactly
sure where dengue fever originated from but scientist recently proposed that it came from forests
in Asia. Dengue fever has three stages; the first being the acute stage which can last from one to
five days, the second is the critical stage which can last up to two to three days, and the last stage
which is the recovery stage which is can last up to weeks. Dengue fever symptoms vary in severity.
While some people, mainly babies and young children, show little to no symptoms others, such as
older children and adults, show mild to severe symptoms. Symptoms include but are not limited to
fever, bone and joint pain,

Adventurous Moment Essay
Two Vacation Spots Adventure! Everyone probably has an adventurous moment they will

happen between 2010 and 2012. Fortunately, I visited two different cities in two different States
during this time doing the same activity, carrying out the same fun experience from an
internship, but had different results and likes. Initially, in the summer of 2010 I visit Folly
Beach, and then summer 2011 was Pensacola Beach, and finally was Folly Beach again during
summer 2012. Not only do both beaches clinch personal memories in my head, but both areas
have something in common to pull your interest, as well as they differ such that you can be able
to choose where to spend a short vacation. Fortunately, it was a sales internship, a program with
Varsity Company International during which we ll sell educational books during the summer to
make some money, and at the end of the summer the sales manager will choose one place where
all participants will go to celebrate success. Confidently, I became part of the program in 2010
and the memory wasn t impressive. Unfortunately, 2010 memory wasn t the best due to the fact
that Ruth Angelina was the closest friend I met during the program; I didn t generate enough
income to celebrate success and I was left in the cold at Folly Beach by Ruth. Courageously, I

Cross border group mobility:

The Allianz Worldwide Partners (AWP) project:

German but only one of them was sent by HQ (i.e., previously worked there).
Conversely, the head of Group Internal Audit is a Frenchman who did most of

The Age of Enlightenment and Rebellion against Authority...
The Age of Enlightenment saw many great changes in Western Europe. It was an age of reason and
philosophes. During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took
place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the
Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming
amount of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of

change is apparent in the ideas, questions, and philosophies of the time, in the study of science, and

During the Pre Enlightenment and Enlightenment periods, man began to question that model of the
Universe. Copernicus revolutionary model of the Universe placed the Sun at the centre of the
Universe. Though Copernicus ideas were only allowed to b e published as he was on his deathbed,
the Church grudgingly agreed to Copernicus model of the Universe as it still placed man s solar
system in the centre of the Universe. Later, Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler adjusted Copernicus
model so that it fit both observation and mathematics. The final Enlightened blow to the Catholic
Church came when Isaac Newton proposed and subsequently proved that not only is out planet
and the solar system not at the centre of the Universe, but that the Universe itself is a machine: it
can be governed only be natural and physical laws. This presented a great change in society and
proved to be a most fatal blow to the Catholic Church. For, if the Universe is governed by natural
and physical laws, how could God possible interfere with events in the Universe? This only proves
that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of changed and, indeed, such change meant breaking

The Criminal Justice System Is Failing Children And Young...
This essay seeks to discuss the statement of The criminal justice system is failing children and
young offenders in the UK by considering both whether our justice system is delivering the
overhaul of the youth justice systems aims of
Providing the criminal justice system with an appropriate selection of sentencing choices and
focusing any sentencing on preventing re offending by stopping the vicious cycle young offenders
tend to fall into. This report will also discuss the widely shared opinion that our justice system is
severely inadequate for UK s young people therefore failing to rehabilitate young offenders and
strongly promote and enforce restorative justice as Sir Alan Beth MP (The Chair of the Youth
Justice Committee) intends to. According to UK Governments official crime rate stats, In 2015
there were around 950,000 arrests made in England and Wales, of which 94,960 were of people
aged 10 17 years. This immediately shows how obligatory it is for our system to be constructive

Marriage Relationships in Julius Caesar Essay
Marriage Relationships in Julius Caesar
The relationship between Brutus and Portia is of a loving one. Portia speaks to Brutus gently
calling him, my dear lord and `gentle this actually shows that Portia respects and honors Brutus.
Brutus also replies her gently and expresses his love for her in the lines `render me worthy of this
noble wife and `as dear to me as are the ruddy drops/that visits my sad heart . In these lines, Brutus
says that Portia is as dear to him as the blood in his heart. This shows that they have mutual respect
as well as love.
While the love between Portia and Brutus is equally reciprocated, we can see and contrast
Calphurnia s love for Caesar this way. Portias concern for Brutus ... Show more content on

Caesar assumes the stand that the time of death is all decided in the heavens and `will come
when it will come . His obvious oppositions to his wife s opinion are an indication that her
thoughts and opinions are not taken seriously and considered. Brutus on the other hand tries his
best to cooperate with his wife and makes an effort to find out about the troubles and worries that
she have. Brutus was the first to acknowledge his wife s presence and to ask about her, which
highlight his sensitivity to her. After Portia explains her concerns, Brutus tries his best to assure her
that everything is fine.
Portia kneels at the start of her conversation with Brutus. This shows that she is not ashamed of
begging her husband to for his own benefit. She evens stabs herself in the thigh to convince
Brutus that she us able to keep his troubles to herself. Calphurnia on the other hand, kneels only at
the end of her conversation, when she is desperate. Calphurnia also does not make any physical
sacrifices while Portia stabs herself in the thigh. She instead offers to sacrifice her public
reputation, giving Caesar permission to use her cowardly fear as an excuse for his absence from
the senate.
The husbands reaction to their wives sacrifice is also different. After Portia stabs herself, Brutus
exclaims that she is a `noble wife and agrees to let her in on the conspiracy. Caesar reluctantly

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Distributed Generations
This chapter defines distributed generation (DG), briefly describes why it is useful and in the end
mentions the problems associated with its connection to the grid.
1.1What is distributed generation (DG)?
Contrary to the traditional philosophy of power system design, which comprises of a large utility
generator situated far away from the loads, the concept of DG requires the installation of smaller
capacity generators close to the load.
IEEE defines the generation of electricity as facilities sufficiently smaller than central plants,
usually 10 MW or less, so as to allow interconnection at nearly any point in the power system, as
Distributed Resources.
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) defines DG as generation from a few kilowatts up to 50
MW.
International Energy Agency (IEA) defines DG as Power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The introduction of DG in distribution network changes the traditional radial structure into multi
power structure and demands a huge shift on size and orientation of power flow thus influencing
voltage distribution of the network [15]. The control of the DG requires large numbers of power
electronic devices which produce harmonics when turning on and off frequently. The paralleling in
DG will increase the short circuit current, which depends on many factors, such as the type of DG,
operation mode, capacity, permeability rate and the method of interfacing with the system. This
change will affect the original protection coordination of the network. According to the relative
position of the short point and the access point of the DG, the short circuit current in the protection
equipment will change dramatically. Therefore, the current arrangement of protection equipment
requires resetting. Moreover, a high penetration of distributed generation may change and reverse

Compare And Contrast Mesopotamia And Indus River Valley...
Ishaan Sarfani The two ancient river valley civilizations of Mesopotamia and the Indus River
valley civilization, prior to 600 BCE had many things that remained stagnant in terms of their
cultures but also they had just as many changes. Due to New advances and by influence from
other civilizations such as the Indus over Mesopotamia and vice versa this increased the amount
of change a lot. As these river valley civilizations grew and developed they began to gain
influence from other surrounding ones. In both societies religion played a crucial role in
politics. Although there is no solid evidence to state that there was a formal style of governance
in the ancient Indus civilization it is theorized that there was because of the mass amounts of
public works that there are present which are found in the ruins of their civilization. So it is
believed that the Brahmins is had some role to play in government. As the story goes in India
there was a god named purusha who sacrificed himself in order to cease the caste system.
Purusha s mouth became the people of the top caste called the Brahmins. These people were the
priests. Next came the warriors known as Kshatriyas. They made up purusha s arms. This system
followed and continued as such all the way down to purushas legs where the artisans and
craftsman were. In Mesopotamia there was a similar system to that of the Indus civilization s the
code of Hammurabi which shows us a glimpse into the Mesopotamians version of the case

feelings of disappointment for being on the wrong side of the curve what I thought were letting
my parents down for not succeeding in an academic subject. When I was young (Elementary and
some Jr. High) I really struggled with reading and retention. I did very well in other subjects, but it
always bothered me that I struggled in reading. My mother and father were always very supportive
but I am not sure they understood why (I grew up in a different time of education) I struggled. My
mother was from a different country, France and though educated still had language barrier issues

comparisons between Christianityand Islamwill be used to help better understand the religion of
Islam and it is place in being branded as an Abrahamic religion. Originating in Mecca, Saudi

Marketing and Red Bull
P1 describe how marketing techniques are used to market products in two organisations
In this piece of work I will be describing how marketing techniques are used to market products in
two organisations. I will be talking about the techniques, role and objectives of the two products
that I have chosen. The two products that I have chosen to talk about are the Samsung galaxy s3
and Red bull. Marketing means the action that a business does to promote their products and
services. Market research involves the collection of data to obtain insight and knowledge into the
needs and wants of customers and the structure and dynamics of a market.
The Samsung galaxy s3 is the world s most popular smart phone model, holding 10.7% of the global

Samsung have different survival strategies. Survival strategies means when the sales of a
product decrease in a business, and the business is trying to keep them up. Most of Samsungs
products have been developed to be more high tech than their competitors. This gives them an
advantage as they will get more sales than anyone else in that industry. The Samsung Galaxy s3
had been developed from the Samsung Galaxy s2 and has been created to be easier to use and
more enjoyable for the customer. Apple tried banning Samsung from releasing their Samsung
galaxy s3 because Apple think Samsung have used some of their software for their products. A
business would need survival strategies if sales for their products have gone down and they want
to make as much money of the product before it goes bust. Samsung reported an 82% jump in
profits over the first quarter of last year, while revenue climbed 22%.
Branding in a business is important as it shows the reputation of the business. The importance in
the buyer s behaviour can affect the businesses sales, as it can increase or decrease their sales.
Consumers are responsible factor for the sales of any products or services, so when a new product
is being released in the market, understanding consumers buying behaviour becomes very essential.

controversial elections in American history. Each candidate could be viewed as a role model, but
only one stood out the most to me: Donald Trump. Donald Trump, an American businessman and
now the 45th President of the United States, has a mindset of his own. Not only does Trump speak

WHAT CAUSES A TORNADO AND THE EFFECT THEY HAVE
First the public is taught to recognize the environmental clues such as dark, often greenish sky,
wall clouds, large hail, and loud roaring sound like a train. The National Weather Service
broadcasts watches and warnings for tornadoes as well as for thunderstorms. The civil defense
sirens are sounded at night in conjuction with the warnings when everyone is asleep because they
may not aware of the watches or warnings, if the town has them.
Some other effects of these monsters are that people loose their houses and properties and for some
without insurance it is total devastation. There are many effects due to tornadoes and way too
many to go into on this short paper.
WHAT CAUSES A TORNADO AND THE EFFECT THEY HAVE
CONCLUSION
The effects of tornadoes are slight to major destruction and the cost can be very high up to the
loss of life. Prepare yourself, have a plan to escape to safety. If you are in a tornado prone area
then you might want to get a weather radio that has a siren to warn of impending activity.

He blamed this divisiveness on those who believe that skin color and gender should entitle certain
groups of people to some benefits while denying them from other for no reason but racial
preferences:
Do we not believe it was divisive when those from an earlier period said slavery was immoral?
Was it not divisive when our nation s people fought among themselves over this very issue? Was it
not divisive when we sent troops into Montgomery and Selma, Alabama to protect the rights of
people like Rosa Parks and James Meredith to ensure their right to sit wherever they wanted on a
bus and to attend a college that wasn t segregated?
Yes, those were divisive times. But the seeds of division are not planted by those of us who seek
to eliminate racial and ethnic preferences; they are planted by those who believe that our skin
color and gender and how we spell our last names should entitle us to the harvest of diversity ―
college admission, government employment, and contracts. (Connerly 5)

Locke And Rousseau s Influence On Education
Education has been ever developing since the inception of the first schools. The early theorists
believed that children were mini adults. Children were treated the same as their adult counterparts.
They were given jobs at early ages, and dressed the same as their parents. This belief, that children
were just little adults, was called Preformationism. Though this may seem like an antiquated idea,
aspects of Preformationism are still scene in today s society. We often lapse into the same thinking
today, as when we expect young children to sit still for hour, or when we assume that their thinking
is the same as ours (Crain 5). Clearly there was the need for new theories, which would better
explain child development and education. This is where Locke and Rousseau come in.
John Locke, a British philosopher, focused on the role of social environment and experiences in
education. Locke believed that children s minds were blank slates. Meaning we are not born
with any innate notions or abilities. Locke consider the mind to be...white paper void of all
characteristics, without any ideas. (Crain 7) The mind is very pliable and ready to accept new
information. Locke believed children learned in four ways, the first of which is associations. What
this means is that we simultaneously think of two things and associate them. For example if you
get sick after eating at McDonalds, you might feel stomach pain every time you see one. The next
way is repetition, or doing something several

The Development And Development Of The Greek And Greek Empire
The Roman Republic and Empire was one of the largest civilisations in the world. A significant
question posed is how and why did the Roman Republic and Empire develop in the ways they
did and interact with the Persian and Greek/Hellenic Empires? At the height of the Roman
Empire it spanned across western Europe, and encompassed the entire Mediterranean. Lasting
and developing through thousands of years, the Romans encountered and interacted with the
Persian and Greek/Hellenic Empires. This included trading, co existing, and going to war with
one another. Although, originally the Roman Republic and Empire was first founded by the
Etruscan people. Established in 753 BCE by a Etruscan colony on the River Tiber in Italy, the
city was controlled by Etruscan Kings until 509 BCE. Whence the people rose up against the
monarchy to establish the Roman Republic, and fought for control of central Italy for the next
30 years. (Dr David Lundberg, 2017, pp.6 7) Thus the Roman Republic became a contending
force in Western Europe, and across the Mediterranean for the next 450 years. (J.M.Roberts Odd
Arne Westad, 2013, p.218) Instead of a king, two consuls and an assembly of elected magistrates
were installed to rule the Roman Republic. Before a new set of consuls, and new magistrates were
elected by the citizens each year. Additionally, legislative and consultative bodies were elected as

Persuasive Essay On How To Apply Makeup
How to Apply Makeup: Step by Step We all hit the age of first wanting to wear makeup, but we
all run into the same problem. How do we apply it? There are so many steps and products to use
but not everyone knows what to use or how to apply it. You can find many videos online of girls
doing their makeup, but today I will explain a step by step process of how to apply it and what
tools you should use. The very first step you should do is wash your face. This step should be
done every time before doing makeup. Before you ever do your makeup you should have a clean
canvas before you start applying products to your face. If you have dry, flaky patches on your
skin, you could exfoliate. Most exfoliating scrubs have small rough microbeads in them. As you
rub the scrub onto your face in circular motions, it will remove the dry patches. By doing this, it
will help to make your foundation go on smoother. After you wash your face, you will want to
apply a moisturizer, another extremely important step. The moisturizer will nourish all of the dry
patches that the exfoliator could not remove. Moisturizers are made for every skin type. For
example, there are moisturizers for oily skin, dry skin, combo skin, and nighttime and daytime.
You should pick a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. You only need to apply a dime
size amount to your entire face. If you apply too much, the excess moisturizer will sit on top of
your skin and not sink in. You will want to let the moisturizer

The Human Dimensions Of Natural Resource Management
The human dimensions of natural resource management are very important to the successful
management of any natural resource. In order for any natural resource to be successfully managed
their must be ample funding and public support and interest; two key aspects that are often not
throughly considered but are vital to the success of good resource management. These two aspects
also go hand in hand, for example, if the public is connected and involved with there natural
resources they will be more likely to support them and work to protect them. If the public is not
involved or not informed on there natural resources they will likely take them for granted and have
little to no interest on their management. I see this happen very often in state parks on holidays,
people from the city come into the park and leave trash everywhere because they only go there a
few times a year and don t understand the ecological consequences of this behavior because they are
not there often enough to understand. Integrating human dimensions into natural resource
management means to carefully consider and include the publics beliefs and values while
managing any public natural resource (Jacobson and McDuff 265). The human dimensions aspect
of natural resource managementis complex and involves many different aspects that all play a vital
role in the publics interest and contribution to natural resources. As demonstrated in Integrating
Social Science into the Long Term Ecological Research

High Fuctose Corn Syrup Research Paper
High Fructose Corn Syrup: Why You re Getting Fat Did you know that High Fructose Corn

Although it is loved by big food companies due to its extended shelf life and cheap production, is
it the healthiest option for the consumer? This is a widespread question that has been asked in the
United States since the invention of HFCS in the 1960s. This artificial sweetener is rumored to

adamant that people in the United States greatly reduce the intake of this sweetener. This can be

Joseph is mentioned here as the husband of Mary, which makes Joseph legally the father of

Luke 2:41,48 where Joseph is called one of Christ s parents and also the father. Mary was a virgin
to whom was born Christ. Nowhere do we read that Christ received blood or flesh from Mary,
but we do read that Mary gave Christ a physical birth. We are told that she was found with child of

The Age Of Discovery Of The 18th Century Essay
The Age of Discovery from the 15th to 18th century was a period marked by the discovery of
lands, unknown before to the Europeans. The expeditions to find new areas were not only done to
find more profitable means for the metropole but also to spread their religion which heavily
dominated a person s life. They wanted to convert the natives to their religion, but if they refused,
they saw fit to take over. By doing this, not only did religion spread but also the dominating country,
which turned them into an empire. An example of this is Spain, which not only found new lands to
bring profit back home but also spread Christianity.
The Catholic Kings, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella were rulers during the Reconquista of
Spain (Burbank and Cooper, 121). Their Reconquista of Spain was a brutal war, and it ended in
1492 after the fall of the Muslim Granada. The primary drive of the war was to unite the Iberian
Peninsula under a Catholic rule and to remove non Christian people like Jews and Muslims from
it. In the end, they were told to leave, convert or die. Religion, particularly Christianity was
significant, but now it was made more significant with ridding Spain of its infidels. The new sense
of Christian devotion and importance affected Christopher Columbus voyage and later other future
expeditions where now it was important to spread Christianity to the savages and barbarians they
found. With the support of the Spanish royals, Columbus sailed in 1492 with his three

Summary Of In The Penal Colony
For this unit, I decided to read Kafka s In the Penal Colony. The author, Franz Kafka, was an early
20th century middle class Jew who lived in Prague and wrote mostly in German. The present short
story, published in 1919, refers to an unnamed penal colony somewhere in the tropics and focuses
on four characters: the commander of the camp, an invited foreign dignitary, a guard, and a victim.
The story revolves a twisted idea of justice, where the punishment does not fit the crime, and the
condemned does not know neither the charge nor the nature of his punishment. Indeed, justice
seems completely irrelevant to the commander who is only fascinated with the torturing as an art
and science; the apotheosis of the latter represented with the torturing machine that resembles a
CNC router that inscribes the accusation on the skin of the condemned who then dies slowly from
bleeding. The first thing that impressed me what the prescience of the author, who almost
anticipated the misery of the Nazi and Communist concentration camps. Certainly, penal camps
existed prior to his writing, and these might have served as a model; in Czarist Russia, for
example, criminals and political radicals were sent to labor camps in Siberia with famous exiles
being Dostoyevsky and Lenin. Yet, despite the harsh conditions of these places, the idea remained
that the punishment had to fit the crime and there was a personal interaction between camp
administration and inmates. Kafka s foresight presents a

Cultural Encounter Ana Menendez Analysis
Cultural Encounter in Ana Menendez s In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd
People emigrate from one place to another for different reasons. Some people leave their
homelands by choice while others are forced to leave it due to different reasons. Some of these
reasons are political, where a person leave his country to find freedom in another. There is a lot of
literature written on this subject worldwide which tries to analyse and reflect upon the conditions
of such people, and how they are received in the new communities they emigrate to. The Cuban
author and novelist Ana Menendez is one of the writers who explored these ideas in her works. Her
short stories collection In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd reflects upon issues related to the Cuban
community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her parents came from Cuba to America as refugees in Los Angeles. Therefore, she has inherited
the Cuban Culture from her parents and live in a new culture. She found differences between both
cultures in different ways. These differences between cultures, which we highlight here, are not
only about ethnicity and race, they are also related to moral values, taste in arts, social customs
and traditions, and beliefs (Brown 97). The short story collection In Cuba I Was a German
Shepherd tells stories of Cuban people encountering the American culture. The short story that
carries the same title of the collection reflects the author s awareness of what happens when people
are displaced and exiled to another land. We may find biographical elements in the story since it
has a similar setting and atmosphere of Ana Menendez s

What Are Sports Players More Than Soldiers
Sports players on professional teams make more than soldiers. This may seem like a problem
but it s not. Sports players make more because they sell out stadiums and are paid from the
money made based on how many people watch them play for entertainment. The argument i have
prepared should help you view it from my perspective. While it is very true that soldiers provide
for our country with the protection, sports players do good for the people in our country as well.

Psychology Chapter 4
Chapter 4 They are different way to try to understand other people, looking at signs like facial
expressions, attitudes and emotions for example. Facial expressions of emotions are when one
part of the face registers one emotion and the other a different emotion. Some cultures express
themselves by movements like gestures, touch, personal space, eye gaze and their tone of voice.
To understand other people we need to observe there behavior. To do that we use general notions
or schemas about personality trails that go together in one person. Some of them are passed from
one generation to another. In my case I observed the people are around me and I try to visualized

This activates an internal self justification process to occur. When a person internally processes
self justification, it creates a larger and much more powerful effect on a person s long held
beliefs or morals than if any external justification is evident. When person advocates publically
for something that is a counter belief to their true ideals, also known as counter attitudinal
advocacy, the person will feel a certain level of dissonance. A clever application of cognitive
dissonance theory is to get someone to like you by having them do you a favor. The reason this
works is that the person needs to internally justify the fact that they did something nice for you.
The converse is true as well. If you harm another person, to reduce the threat to your self image
that could come from doing a bad deed, you will tend to justify what you did by denigrating your
victim: the person deserved it, or he or she is not one of us anyway. In extreme cases such as
conflict and war, many people will embrace the cognition that the victim or enemy deserved
everything they got because they are less than human. Chapter 7 One way that attitudes can change
is when a group of people or persons participate in counter attitudinal advocacy while having little to
no external justification for it. When this happens people will

Hormone Adjustment Therapy Research Paper
Benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy for Men and Women
Fountain of Youth
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), or also known as hormone therapy (HT) is a government
approved treatment that has seen a resurgence in popularity due to it benefits for men and women.
From menopause to osteoporosis, HRT can help treat and prevent medical ailments that affect
thousands of people in a variety of age groups.
Managing Menopause
HRT is one of the most effective practices used to help women manage the discomfort they may
experience during menopause. Reduced levels of estrogen and progesterone can cause hot flashes,
mood swings, night sweats, vaginal dryness and sleep disturbances. An estrogen only therapy (ET)
will give most women the relief they need from these issues. Women who have had a hysterectomy

The addition of progestogen will help protect the uterus from developing uterine (endometrial)
cancer.
Women receiving HRT containing estrogen will not only see a reduction of their menopausal
symptoms but there is also the benefit of improved brain function, thicker hair and bone density, as
well as better sleep and muscle function.
Osteoporosis
When estrogen levels decrease, a woman s chances for developing osteoporosis increases following
menopause. Studies have shown that women who receive HRT during menopause have had a
greater bone density in the early and late postmenopausal stage.
Men receiving a testosterone replacement therapy will also see the benefit of increased bone
density and will be at a much lower risk of developing osteoporosis as well.
Reverse the Aging Process? Possibly
Another type of HRT is human growth hormone (HGH) treatment. While this may not be the
fountain of youth, receiving this injection form of HRT can produce tighter and firmer skin.

How Self Justification Is Drives Escalation Of Commitment
The article, How self justification indirectly drives escalation of commitment a motivational
perspective , examines different influences on decision making. It demonstrates that people possess
the need for self justification and that self justification drives the escalation of commitment.
Steinkuhler, Mahlendorf, Brettel (2014) argue that the escalation of commitment phenomenon
results from indirect cognitive processes such as selective perception sunk cost, and over
optimism ( p.66). The article also details various studies conducted to validate findings on how
cognitive processes further propel the escalation of commitment effect. This paper summarizes the
Steinkuhler, Mahlendorf, Brettel findings. It also provides a more detailed example of how a
major product launch from Mattel ended in failure in part because of selective perception.
Escalation of Commitment There are times when executives make decisions without being certain
of a particular outcome. They take risk. Unfortunately, taking risk can lead to loss. Loss can be in
the form of money, time, reputation etc. Escalation of commitment occurs when decision makers
escalate their commitment by continuing to invest resources and persist beyond an economically
rational point to terminate a failing project (Steinkuhler, Mahlendorf, Brettel, 2014, p. 192). Let s
take the American invasion of Iraq in 2003. President George W. Bush led the world to believe

The War I Was A War
1914 through 1918, was the time period for this war. There are a lot of people who don t really
know exactly what started World War I, but there was a lot of events that took place that led into a
general war. The war basically started off as being a military conflict that included a lot of other
countries, for example, many countries of Europe and some other nations throughout the world.
Before World War Iwas named, it was called Great War, and it was also called World
War. The war kind of started out as having a disagreement between two coalitions of European
countries. It also started with a murder that happened in Balkan city of Sarajevo, actually it was an
assassination. Austria Hungary (Heir to the throne) and his wife were murdered and after that
incident, within five weeks, the war kicked off. Nobody wanted the U.S. to even get involved, not
even the president who at that time was Woodrow Wilson, and he definitely wanted to stay out of
the messing that was going on. Everything was good until around the year 1917, the U.S. shipping
from the german submarine was attacked and Mexico was encouraged to invade U.S. and attack.
The Allied Powers included the countries as follows: United Kingdom, France,
Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, and the Russian Empire. The Central Powers included: Germany
and Austria Hungary. There was a few nations didn t join the actual fighting. Around 1918, the war
was finally starting to end and Central Powers were defeated. The European powers

Brooklyn Bridge
This essay introduces the Brooklyn Bridge. The Bridge is located in America over the East river;
the nearest city to the bridge is New York and Manhattan, Brooklyn.
After 60 years of political, financial and technical discussions to start the construction of the
Brooklyn Bridge it was approved. The Bill to start construction was signed in 1869 by the New
York Bridge company president, Ulysses S Grant. The cost of the original structure was
$15,100,000.
John Augustus Roebling was the designer of the Brooklyn Bridge but during the review for the

The bridge weighs a total of 14,680 tonnes and has four cables and 5434 wires in each cable and
the clearance below the bridge is 41 meters. The bridge carries motor vehicles, pedestrians and
cyclists, on six lanes for motor vehicles and a separate walkway along the centre line for
pedestrians and cyclists. Since there are roadway, height and weight limits, commercial vehicles
and buses are banned from using this bridge and it is toll free, both ways. The bridge is maintained
by New York City Department of Transportation, and since the 1980 s the bridge has been flood lit
at night to highlight its architectural features.
Some of Brooklyn Bridges worst accidents were caused through cable rigging. In June 1878 a
cable strand broke lose while being adjusted the strand flew into the East river, taken off the top
of one riggers head and knocking another person off the anchorage along the way. Another
rigger was guiding wire onto a drum. He kicked it to keep it in line and his foot was caught. This
leg was wrapped around the drum, which killed him instantly. Several others died from falling off
the bridge or equipment falling onto them. At least three men died of the Bends during caisson and
a couple of men were crushed by blocks being swung into place. Roughly 27 people died during the
construction of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The airline industry is by itself plays a big part in the economy. It generates 31.9 million jobs
globally. (The impact of the financial crisis on labour in the civil aviation industry) It involves
transportations, catering, securities, logistics, etc. As it does not work as an industry by itself, HR
planning comes to be an important task.
The airline industry has generally seen success in the many aspects involved with it service,
tourism, innovations etc. Despite the terrorism setbacks, the industry has managed to bounce back
on its feet and even produce a stunning display of grit in its armoury to be steadfast in its mission
to uphold everyone s safety yet delivering impeccable service.

It needs to hire staff from around the world that has the right talent and fits the organisation. This
will lead to several issues such as cultural difference and managing the different expectations of
their staff. With a global workforce, the airlines in Singapore will face a difficult task in training
their staff due to their different backgrounds. With more airlines operating in Singapore, the
industry could face competition and difficulty in hiring staff.
An airline in Singapore will not just face competition for staff from other airlines operating in
Singapore but also from other airlines around the world. This is due to the emerging trend of the
willingness of the current workforce to work and live overseas. This could be attributed to the
prospect of learning a different culture and the ability to gain experience in a different country.
With the fierce competition from the numerous airlines and the fact that Singapore is a small
country with high living standards, another staffing issue affecting the airline industry in Singapore
is retaining staff. This can be a difficult task as the current workforce will look not only their salary
but the all the benefits as a whole. Retaining staff is important as it allows the organisation to serve
its customers better and spend less on recruiting and training new staff.
Another issue affecting the airline industry in Singapore is the career planning and

The Ruth Funk Center For Textile Arts
Exhibition Review For our exhibition review, our class visited the Ruth Funk Center for Textile
Arts on Wednesday September 21st. This semester the exhibition being presented is
Transformers: re contextualizing our material culture, the exhibition is curated by China Marx.
The artists shown in the exhibit are: Garry Noland, Gerry Trilling, and Julie Peppito. I have
never truly analyzed art before, and a textile museum was the last place I pictured myself at
Florida Tech. As soon as I walked in I felt like I was in a whole different world. There were
beautiful pieces of handmade jewelry, and scarves for sale all over the walls and shelves. The
walls were pure white, and looked very modern. Banners hung from the second floor ceiling
down to the ground behind the desk. The banners read Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts. I knew
this exhibition was going to be beautiful as soon as I walked in, and I was right. The exhibition
beautifully showed how one can view different aspects of life and demonstrated the necessity of
reusing waste and finding beauty and detail in everything around us. The first piece that jumped
out at me was by Garry Noland, it was sitting on the ground and looked like three beautiful shiny
rocks that were dipped in gold paint. Upon greater observation I realized that they weren t rocks
at all, they were pieces of dirty used Styrofoam with brand new shiny gold duct tape on top. The
piece had three main parts. The smallest piece, which was pale orange and had

Earning A Postsecondary Degree Essay
Have you ever wondered if getting a postsecondary degree will help in your future? Well if you
said yes then this essay will give you the information on why it is. Earning a postsecondary
degree can increase your income according to the article (college still worth it?). Some people
prefer not getting a postsecondary degree because it cost to much or it s too much work while
others get it and have a higher income. Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive
impact on someone s life because there will be more job opportunities, earn a higher income, and a
longer life expectancy.
First of all, Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone s life because
there will be more job opportunities available for them. For example, according to (Does having a
degree...) economic conditions have led to a sharp decrease in employment of young professionals.
Additionally, when compared with other education levels, individuals with a college degree were
the only group that had a better job. For instance, according to the National Center for Education
Statistics, the unemployment rate is higher than the unemployment rate in age groups.
Furthermore, the unemployment rate goes down with the effort being made employment rate

First, according to .(The difference between a highschool dropout...) (Sarah Kliff) .Americans
with fewer than 17 years of education have a life expectancy that s not much better than adults
in the 1950s and 1960s. So, taking the time to get a postsecondary degree can increase someone
s life expectancy. Furthermore, In the article (Why accountants live longer than builders)
Professional women have a life expectancy at birth of 85.1 years compared with 78.1 for manual
workers. Overall, having a skilled job can increase your life expectancy more than not having one.

Emerging Thought Leaders Across All B2b Business Models

Emerging thought leaders across all B2B business models understand how important it is to react
to market demand, satisfy busy customers who search for products on their mobile devices and
take advantage of segmentation to offer special catalog lists and pricing tiers to various sub groups.
Store within a store applications can benefit a range of B2B marketing strategies including offering

special marketing and buying needs.

B2B websites can deliver better compliance with vendor requirements while creating a better
shopping experience for buyers by creating a sub brand store to market products under an exclusive
label with customized store designs and buying features.
4. Separate Client Stores for VIP Customers
Large eCommerce stores often depend on sales to VIP customers, and many of these buyers need
higher levels of support than regular customers. VIP customers might need more detailed product
research and vendor support services, special lists of preapproved products, custom pricing,
flexibility to customize products, products from only name brand manufacturers or built in ordering
limits constrained by individual store deliveries, budget caps, seasonal boundaries and
confidentiality or security compliance issues.
These special product lists could challenge any B2B operation and its staff to comply with all these
special requirements. Back office customizations can craft special instructions and catalogs or
stores within stores that only display approved products and limit orders based on customizable
guidelines. The companies can still order other products if approved, which often requires
approvals from multiple decision makers. These store customizations can offer the following
automatic processes:
Providing information on new products to all decision makers to expedite approvals
Limiting catalogs for easier ordering on mobile devices

Methods And Approaches For The Collection And...
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter of the research intends to provide basic understanding of the adopted research design,
methods and approaches for the collection and interpretation of data (Kumar Phrommathed, 2005).
The methodology does not only offers the fundamentals of adopted research methods, but also
intends to present the rationale for the selected research i.e. specific research methods and
techniques. In addition, it provides a description of the research instruments through which the
relevant information was collected and gathered in the research study.
3.1 Research Design
The researcher decided to use primary data for the research study (Burns Bush, 2006). The use of
primary data provided the researcher with first hand information regarding the topic of interest,
which was then used to address the research questions. Considering the nature of the research study,
the researcher used quantitative research design to develop, predict, and address the research
questions (Polkinghorne, 2005).
3.2 Research Philosophy
In light of the literature, research philosophy is defined as the process of collecting and analysing
collected data in standardised and unique manner (Crossan, 2003). The most commonly used
research philosophies include; realism, positivism, and interpretivism. On the basis of the research
objectives and design, the most appropriate research philosophy was positivism.

The Problem Of Police Brutality
Police brutality remains one of the most controversial, as well as the most serious human rights
violations in the United States. In the past year or we have heard, read, or witnessed unjustified
shootings, severe beatings, fatal chokings, and rough treatment which have all contributed to the
ever present problem of police brutalityin America. Police are the ones that set an image towards
the society so that people can actually follow them and think they are doing the right thing,
however it is a really disturbing matter knowing that police does racial profiling especially
compared to whites and blacks. And therefore, this research paper is about police will most likely
be more crucial to blacks compare to whites and this is known as racial profiling. Therefore, this
brings fourth the question, are our officers of law really doing their job?
Police brutality has been and continues to be a major concern in society. Most of these incidents
go un reported or un noticed. Through research, we seek to identify the causes of police brutality,
and what we can possibly do to end it, or in the hopes that it brings awareness. While doing
research on police brutality, I have observed countless online journal articles. These articles are
written by professional analysts that specialize in investigating specific incidents involving police
misconduct. The term police brutality is commonly used very loosely to fit all forms of police
misconduct. The excessive force element of police

  • 2. Critical Analysis The Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner A Doomed Fate A Critical Analysis of Three Messages in Randall Jarrell s, Gunner Douglas MacArthur, an American general during World War II, described those who fight in war as, The soldier, above all others, prays for peace; for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war. Throughout history, war has been a part of every nation. From medieval times to present day, there have been a countless number of wars fought and even more human lives lost. Many short stories and poems have been written about the hard times of war, but none have been quite as inspirational as Randall Jarrell s, The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner. This five line poem described what it was like to be a ball turret gunner during... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These men, such as the ball turret gunners, were of the most brave and fearless men to serve for the United States. Often, a person would think that no one would wish to be tasked with the mission of being a ball turret gunner; however, according to the article, How to Become a Ball Turret Gunner and Dr. Tim McGee, the waiting list to become a ball turret gunner was the longest in World War II. The article states, The men who served as gunners in World War II understood the dangers of the job they were signing themselves up for (David Sears). These men knew that they would be facing certain death if they chose to take position on the belly of an American army plane. Jarrell writes, Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life... (3). No man who signed up for this horrendous job expected to live more than three air trips. This just goes to prove how crucial it is to appreciate those who are willing to risk their lives just so others do not have to suffer. The last, and possibly most heartbreaking message in, The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, is that no one is guaranteed a life on this earth tomorrow. During hard war times, such as World War II, thousands of young soldiers are called upon to fight for their nation whether or not they believe in what they re fighting for. While some were deathly afraid to serve during the war, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examining The Functional Connectivity Of A Whole Brain Atlas Background: The brain is often considered the most complex organ in the human body. It is also the most difficult to understand, given the vast array of different functions spread throughout its mass and the interconnected functionality of its regions that makes subdividing it based on form or function a difficult task. Craddock, et al. (2012), in the article examined, attempt to produce a method for further examining the functional connectivity (FC) of the regions of the brainand subdivide them based on spatial positioning and function. Understanding FC in the brain can significantly improve understanding of many brain functions and the effect of outside stimulus of various parts of the brain. This examination will only be able to take place by creating an accurate whole brain atlas. This creation of a whole brain atlas, or a map of the brain separating it into regions of interest (ROI) based positioning and/or function, has typically been done via fMRI analysis of the brain combined with an anatomically based mapping procedure. This study seeks to use fMRI technology combined with an algorithm to create voxel clusters or ROI s that optimize both spatial coherence and homogeneity in regards to the FC of the individual ROIs that can closely match of the results of a voxel wise analysis, while improving on computation power required and interpretability. Clinical Significance: The usefulness of this technology and methodology can be found in both neurology research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The South, By Jorge Luis Borges The opening and closing scenes of the short story The South in the book Ficciones by Jorge Luis Borges have a large degree of influence on the way the reader experiences the story itself. The opening scene, for example, very much sets the tone and foreshadows future event in the story through an introductory description of the character of Dahlmann and his background. The closing scene, on the other hand, holds a good deal of significance because it contributes a good deal of ambiguity to the ending, as it is not known if Dahlmann died in the knife fight, died back at the hospital, or died at all. Altogether, the opening and closing scenes both contribute to the reader s experience of the book greatly as they gave necessary context to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It does this simply through very careful word choice, as it says he felt that if he choose, then, or to dream his death, this would have been the death he would ve chosen or dreamt . The passage, as shown above, uses the words dream die and dream in order to evoke a feeling of insecurity within the reader, causing them to wonder if all of theses events within the South of Argentina were simply a dream of his while he s still in the hospital, either dead or dying, in order to fulfill his wish that he never could before. Also, it gives the option that he truly did make it to the South but was killed in the knife fight and is dreaming about him walking away from it unharmed right before he dies. Altogether, the function of the last paragraph is to cause the reader to think critically and examine details of the story more closely to draw the conclusion of the story themselves, as to when and where Dahlmann actually died and where the story itself shifts from reality to fantasy. In conclusion, the opening and closing sentences of the short story The South hold a fairly large significance on the reader s understanding and experience of the events within the stories. The opening provides a cultural background and character development that adds to a prospective reader s understanding of the story while the closing give a sense of ambiguity to the story and causes the reader to analyze the story more ... • 5. The Fantasy Story Today I #8217;d like to tell you about fantasy literature. It is very hard to tell all about it but I #8217;ll try to do it as good as possible and not being boring. First fantasy motifs were shown in romanticism. We all know the mystical and unreal characters: ghosts, phantoms etc. Authors for building the special mood and charm of that epoch used that figures. But fantasy is something more than romantic ways of showing nature or inner experiences of the main character in the novel. It #8217;s also not an attempt of explaining the unreal and difficult to understand visions or event. In the course of time it began to live it #8217;s own life more and more the writers started to use these motifs. And what had happened? They created... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But one day, after many happy years on the throne, they got lost in a forest. While walking the trees became coats and they suddenly fell out of the closet. Long years in Narnia were just few minutes in the human world. Children have big imagination so crossing the line between fantasies and real is not a problem, but it is a big challenge for readers. Lewis created the magic land and as he once said: #8221;even if all of that is imagined #8211; trees, grass, sun, moon, stars and Aslan, there is no doubt: this imagined world is much better then the real one #8221;. The next kinds, beloved by fantasy fans are #8220;never lands #8221;. They are perfectly defined by one of first never lands creators Lord Dunsany. He named it as places #8220;beyond the fields we know #8221;. And we are really crossing the line of human perception. Authors don #8217;t blink their eye, don #8217;t pretend like in the Venice carnival. Not everything is from the beginning land of fantasy. Tolkien made never lands legal, gave them autonomy and independence, full rights in authors imagination. He said that artistic imagination has no borders and cannot be restricted by what is real. We can see what we want to see, also the land of never. Never lands can use the cultural heritage of our world, but it all depends on the author. Of course playing in never lands must be based on understanding and agreement between writer and reader, we have to accept all the rules and it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His parents were June and Jim Bourne and he had a brother Dan. His mother was a secretary and his father worked for Thames Water for 30 years. Though inspired by and set to music from Bizet s Carmen, incorporated into Terry Davies and Rodion Shchedrin s Carmen Suite, images are also drawn from The Postman Always Rings Twice and A Streetcar Named Desire. There s also a strong whiff of Tennessee Williams earlier play, Orpheus Descending. Set in a small mid West town called Harmony in the mid 1960s, the focus is on sexual obsession. Bourne catches the feel of a small town exploding with raging hormones and no distractions. The mechanics at Dino s Garage and the waitresses at Dino s CafГ© express themselves by hip pumping and hip twitching respectively. The boys alternative sport is tormenting more sensitive souls. Into this charged atmosphere strolls Luca, a drifter. Employed by Dino at his garage, Luca is a dancing phallus. He not only seduces Dino s wife, Lana, but also has a one night stand with Angelo, the gentle boyfriend of Lana s sister Rita, who is the butt of merciless hazing by the town studs until Luca rescues him. • 7. Friedrich Nietzsche, The German Philosopher Tia Holenstein Professor Tevanyan RS 100 20 October 2015 Nietzsche and Agnosticism I chose to conduct my research on Friedrich Nietzsche, the German philosopher. One of the main reasons I decided on him, is because of my personal beliefs. I am agnostic and Nietzsche s philosophy has an atheistic view on religion, which I resonate with. Nietzsche was born in a small village in Germany on October 15th 1844. He often spoke of an idea called life affirmation , which basically means questioning everything honestly. He is one of the most famous philosophers and he had an interesting look at philosophy. He believed philosophy was not a critique of words by means of other words (untimely meditations) but it is a practical way to help your self grow, overcome and become a greater person. By doing this one would be able to affirm life no matter what tragedies you are faced with, There are heights of the soul from which even tragedy ceases to look tragic (Beyond Good and Evil). He considered himself to be a teacher to these great individuals or the higher man his target audience. Inside the higher man there are different instincts/drives that are forever battling making them a chaotic being. This results in suffering and possible self destruction. To reach life affirmation one must take hold of this chaos inside of them. Because that isn t an easy thing to do, a person might give in to a Herd Instinct . The Herd instinct exists in everyone and is easy to fall into. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the crisis of the nineteenth century, compensation and the hazard of starvation provided the motivation towards the citizens to work hard at their jobs. In the second generation, voices were digitized but sent in the same way through circuit switching network, which establishes a connection between two phones till the connection lasts. 1. Analog Cellular technology: (1G) In first generation the radio telephony system is used. At that time a mobile station and a telephone operator are involved in the communication process. First when a person makes call then it goes to the mobile base station and then from there a mobile operator used to connect to the other person based on the request of who has called. Then the call will be connected to the receiver. This long process is done in the 1G systems. This communication is done using radio waves. • 14. How Social And Political Procedures Affects Resilience At... This paper has demonstrated and examines how series of social and political procedure affects resilience at various spatial scales. Resilience is defined as the ability of individuals or communities to withstand and rebound from sudden natural disaster [earthquake, flood or hurricane] that accounts for the loss of life and properties. However, the definition of resilience is broad as resilience thinkers [Charles Holling and Neil Adger] have argued differently. For example, Holling defines resilience as the ability of a system to absorb change of state variable, driving variables, and parameters, and still persist (Holling, 1973), while Adger, defines resilience as the ability of groups or communities to cope with external stresses and disturbances as a result of social, political and environmental change (Adger, 2000). Understandably, thinker like Adger and Holling as Climate Changethinkers within the academic space have a different opinion to what constitutes the impact of climatechange and best possible approaches needed towards building resilience within social and political frameworks. This paper argues prevalently that, resilience is shaped by social and political discourse emphasizing on vulnerability and climate change adaptation methods such as Livelihood and Economic Diversification (LED) and Community based adaptation (CBA). The essay further argues that resilience is debated at multi levels [local, state, and global] but global policy makers often dominate the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cuhna describes Dengue fever, also known as breakbone or dandy fever , as, a family of viruses that are transmitted through mosquitos . This disease is very common in tropic and subtropic areas such as Brazil. Dengue Fever has no vaccination and the only way to prevent is to avoid getting bit by a mosquito that carries the disease. The disease comes from a mosquito known as the Aedesaegypti (Halstead, 2008). Since the climate and amount of rainfall are two key factors in the reproduction of the Aedes aegyptiglobal warming and climate change have been playing a role in the dengue fevercases ( Halstead, 2008). This is a struggle for people who live in lower income and over populated areas since they have little to no form of protection and live in less cleanly areas. No one is exactly sure where dengue fever originated from but scientist recently proposed that it came from forests in Asia. Dengue fever has three stages; the first being the acute stage which can last from one to five days, the second is the critical stage which can last up to two to three days, and the last stage which is the recovery stage which is can last up to weeks. Dengue fever symptoms vary in severity. While some people, mainly babies and young children, show little to no symptoms others, such as older children and adults, show mild to severe symptoms. When I explain my adventurous moment to friends, I never forget the scenarios that happen between 2010 and 2012. Fortunately, I visited two different cities in two different States during this time doing the same activity, carrying out the same fun experience from an internship, but had different results and likes. Initially, in the summer of 2010 I visit Folly Beach, and then summer 2011 was Pensacola Beach, and finally was Folly Beach again during summer 2012. Not only do both beaches clinch personal memories in my head, but both areas have something in common to pull your interest, as well as they differ such that you can be able to choose where to spend a short vacation. Fortunately, it was a sales internship, a program with Varsity Company International during which we ll sell educational books during the summer to make some money, and at the end of the summer the sales manager will choose one place where all participants will go to celebrate success. Confidently, I became part of the program in 2010 and the memory wasn t impressive. Unfortunately, 2010 memory wasn t the best due to the fact that Ruth Angelina was the closest friend I met during the program; I didn t generate enough income to celebrate success and I was left in the cold at Folly Beach by Ruth. Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Distributed Generations This chapter defines distributed generation (DG), briefly describes why it is useful and in the end mentions the problems associated with its connection to the grid. 1.1What is distributed generation (DG)? Contrary to the traditional philosophy of power system design, which comprises of a large utility generator situated far away from the loads, the concept of DG requires the installation of smaller capacity generators close to the load. IEEE defines the generation of electricity as facilities sufficiently smaller than central plants, usually 10 MW or less, so as to allow interconnection at nearly any point in the power system, as Distributed Resources. Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) defines DG as generation from a few kilowatts up to 50 MW. International Energy Agency (IEA) defines DG as Power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The introduction of DG in distribution network changes the traditional radial structure into multi power structure and demands a huge shift on size and orientation of power flow thus influencing voltage distribution of the network [15]. The paralleling in DG will increase the short circuit current, which depends on many factors, such as the type of DG, operation mode, capacity, permeability rate and the method of interfacing with the system. This change will affect the original protection coordination of the network. Due to New advances and by influence from other civilizations such as the Indus over Mesopotamia and vice versa this increased the amount of change a lot. As these river valley civilizations grew and developed they began to gain influence from other surrounding ones. In both societies religion played a crucial role in politics. Although there is no solid evidence to state that there was a formal style of governance in the ancient Indus civilization it is theorized that there was because of the mass amounts of public works that there are present which are found in the ruins of their civilization. Most exfoliating scrubs have small rough microbeads in them. As you rub the scrub onto your face in circular motions, it will remove the dry patches. By doing this, it will help to make your foundation go on smoother. After you wash your face, you will want to apply a moisturizer, another extremely important step. The moisturizer will nourish all of the dry patches that the exfoliator could not remove. Moisturizers are made for every skin type. For example, there are moisturizers for oily skin, dry skin, combo skin, and nighttime and daytime. You should pick a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. You only need to apply a dime size amount to your entire face. If you apply too much, the excess moisturizer will sit on top of your skin and not sink in. You will want to let the moisturizer ... • 35. The Human Dimensions Of Natural Resource Management The human dimensions of natural resource management are very important to the successful management of any natural resource. In order for any natural resource to be successfully managed their must be ample funding and public support and interest; two key aspects that are often not throughly considered but are vital to the success of good resource management. These two aspects also go hand in hand, for example, if the public is connected and involved with there natural resources they will be more likely to support them and work to protect them. If the public is not involved or not informed on there natural resources they will likely take them for granted and have little to no interest on their management. I see this happen very often in state parks on holidays, people from the city come into the park and leave trash everywhere because they only go there a few times a year and don t understand the ecological consequences of this behavior because they are not there often enough to understand. Integrating human dimensions into natural resource management means to carefully consider and include the publics beliefs and values while managing any public natural resource (Jacobson and McDuff 265). The human dimensions aspect of natural resource managementis complex and involves many different aspects that all play a vital role in the publics interest and contribution to natural resources. Although it is loved by big food companies due to its extended shelf life and cheap production, is it the healthiest option for the consumer? This is a widespread question that has been asked in the United States since the invention of HFCS in the 1960s. This artificial sweetener is rumored to increase one s chances of obesity, high cholesterol, etc. Due to the health risks linked to HFCS it is adamant that people in the United States greatly reduce the intake of this sweetener. The expeditions to find new areas were not only done to find more profitable means for the metropole but also to spread their religion which heavily dominated a person s life. They wanted to convert the natives to their religion, but if they refused, they saw fit to take over. By doing this, not only did religion spread but also the dominating country, which turned them into an empire. An example of this is Spain, which not only found new lands to bring profit back home but also spread Christianity. The Catholic Kings, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella were rulers during the Reconquista of Spain (Burbank and Cooper, 121). Their Reconquista of Spain was a brutal war, and it ended in 1492 after the fall of the Muslim Granada. The primary drive of the war was to unite the Iberian Peninsula under a Catholic rule and to remove non Christian people like Jews and Muslims from it. In the end, they were told to leave, convert or die. Religion, particularly Christianity was significant, but now it was made more significant with ridding Spain of its infidels. The author, Franz Kafka, was an early 20th century middle class Jew who lived in Prague and wrote mostly in German. The present short story, published in 1919, refers to an unnamed penal colony somewhere in the tropics and focuses on four characters: the commander of the camp, an invited foreign dignitary, a guard, and a victim. The story revolves a twisted idea of justice, where the punishment does not fit the crime, and the condemned does not know neither the charge nor the nature of his punishment. Indeed, justice seems completely irrelevant to the commander who is only fascinated with the torturing as an art and science; the apotheosis of the latter represented with the torturing machine that resembles a CNC router that inscribes the accusation on the skin of the condemned who then dies slowly from bleeding. The first thing that impressed me what the prescience of the author, who almost anticipated the misery of the Nazi and Communist concentration camps. Certainly, penal camps existed prior to his writing, and these might have served as a model; in Czarist Russia, for example, criminals and political radicals were sent to labor camps in Siberia with famous exiles being Dostoyevsky and Lenin. Yet, despite the harsh conditions of these places, the idea remained that the punishment had to fit the crime and there was a personal interaction between camp administration and inmates. This activates an internal self justification process to occur. When a person internally processes self justification, it creates a larger and much more powerful effect on a person s long held beliefs or morals than if any external justification is evident. When person advocates publically for something that is a counter belief to their true ideals, also known as counter attitudinal advocacy, the person will feel a certain level of dissonance. A clever application of cognitive dissonance theory is to get someone to like you by having them do you a favor. The reason this works is that the person needs to internally justify the fact that they did something nice for you. The converse is true as well. If you harm another person, to reduce the threat to your self image that could come from doing a bad deed, you will tend to justify what you did by denigrating your victim: the person deserved it, or he or she is not one of us anyway. In extreme cases such as conflict and war, many people will embrace the cognition that the victim or enemy deserved everything they got because they are less than human. How Self Justification Is Drives Escalation Of Commitment The article, How self justification indirectly drives escalation of commitment a motivational perspective , examines different influences on decision making. It demonstrates that people possess the need for self justification and that self justification drives the escalation of commitment. Steinkuhler, Mahlendorf, Brettel (2014) argue that the escalation of commitment phenomenon results from indirect cognitive processes such as selective perception sunk cost, and over optimism ( p.66). The article also details various studies conducted to validate findings on how cognitive processes further propel the escalation of commitment effect. This paper summarizes the Steinkuhler, Mahlendorf, Brettel findings. It also provides a more detailed example of how a major product launch from Mattel ended in failure in part because of selective perception. Escalation of Commitment There are times when executives make decisions without being certain of a particular outcome. They take risk. Unfortunately, taking risk can lead to loss. Loss can be in the form of money, time, reputation etc. Escalation of commitment occurs when decision makers escalate their commitment by continuing to invest resources and persist beyond an economically rational point to terminate a failing project (Steinkuhler, Mahlendorf, Brettel, 2014, p. 192).
