Does The First Cause Argument Show That God Exist
Does the First Cause Argument show that God exists?
The First Cause Argument (or cosmological argument ) as conjured by Thomas Aquinas (1225 7
March 1274), an Italian philosopher gives reasoning for the existence of a higher entity called God.
Aquinas s argument brings forth the idea that the existence of the universe was orchestrated by a
higher entity which in turn shows the existence of the higher entity. This is all based on the
premise that everything has a beginning therefore the universe must have had a beginning.
Therefore the First Cause argument stipulates that there must be something that caused the cause
that caused the beginning of the universe. Aquinas states that one can follow the long chain of
effects and causes till one reaches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the world that we sense, we find that efficient causes come in series.
2.But the series of efficient causes cannot possibly go back to infinity.
3.We must therefore posit a first efficient cause, which everyone understands to be God.
The following parts to this essay will attempt to disprove the First Cause Argument with a number
of objections, which are both good and poor objections, namely: Bertrand Russell objection ; What
caused God? objection ; Against the Second Premise objection ; and lastly Immaterial Material
causation . For the Bertrand Russell objection, this paper will also discuss a more charitable version
of the argument, to do with the non physical creating the physical.
The Bertrand Russell objection, The sub conclusion contradicts the first premise , attempts to
disprove the First Cause Argument. Russell s argument although valid is also attacking a straw
man version of Aquinas argument.
Bertrand Russell s straw man version:
1.For anything that exists there must have been something that caused its existence in the past.
2.There cannot be an infinite chain of effects and their causes, going back infinitely into the

British Economic History, 1952-1963
Assess the period of 1952 1963
The period of 1952 1963 was in the heart of what is known as В‘the golden age , which saw wide
scale growth of GDP and investment in Western Europe. The distinguishing features of the post war
period as identified by Matthews was of full employment, chronically rising prices, an abnormal
ratio of domestic investment to income and relatively high growth in income per capita by
historical standards. In this epoch of British history government policy principally tried to manage
the level of inflation, the balance of payments, the level of investment, the rate of growth and the
level of employment. The tools available to the government can broadly be divided into two
categories manipulating the level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The success of the policy should not be overestimated due to the fact that comparisons of UK
investment levels, fig 7, and those averages in Western Europe, fig 8, reveal that the UK is still
comparatively lagging. The increase in the investment rate did however hold significance for the
level of inflation during the period which was attributed to the shortage in the labour market.
Sargent argues that the higher levels of investment, fig 7, in new machinery led to a greater
requirement of labour than was released through the scrapping of old equipment and the growth of
the labour market, leading to wage push inflation. The period of 1952 1963 saw chronic rises in,
prices as illustrated in fig 4 and though the threat of inflation was of significant concern in the
implementation of policies the conservative government never really managed to control the rate of
increases. There were consecutive attempts to bring the level of inflation down with the
government maintaining a current account surplus throughout the period. Many of the policies
were still deemed as having too high of an inflationary risk, such as the expansionary policies of
1952 1955 where tax cuts were offered during a period where the economy was overheating
suffering chronic inflation. The most successful of the deflationary policies employed during this
epoch was that of Thorneycroft and Amory in 1957 and

Irrigation Yuma Essay
Irrigation Yuma County Irrigation has been a major part for Yuma,Arizona. Many things had
occurred for getting a better irrigation in the Yuma County as well as in other parts; many things
had happened like successfully and tragedies things. The major component that led to the
irrigation was the Reclamation Act, which then later became known as the U.S Bureau of
Reclamation. This then led to the Yuma Project. The Yuma Project was a project that was a
benefit because it help to bring down the water to Arizona. In 1902 the Bureau of Reclamation was
signed. The Bureau of Reclamation project was looking for lands that needed water. Since Arizona

Canals diggers tried to bring water to Yuma but they were not successful, so the Reclamation Act

that it brought water to Yuma for irrigationand stopped canals from flooding. Therefore irrigates

it took away the stress about canals been flooded. The irrigators finally could work in peace with

Volkswagen of America: Managing IT priorities
Volkswagen, as the name suggests means people s car and defines its objectives to design and
manufacture cars which are fuel efficient and affordable. With continuous improvement,
Volkswagen has not only subjugated the automotive market with respect to its low priced cars, but
also earned industry acknowledgement. The core competency of Volkswagenis structured to build
customer loyalty. Although, Volkswagen suffered from erratic sales pattern when the company
introduced a new model commonly called as the Himalayas chart due to its rise and falls (Austin,

Moreover the internet based communication through this enterprise system made it easy for the
ELT to coordinate their activities through a single point of governance between the consultants of
gedasUSA and other e business teams. Thus this communication facilitated by the e business teams
through the development of web applications to administer their IT projects strengthened
Volkswagens operations.
IT alignment is crucial for the growth of businesses and in the case of Volkswagen with several
independent units, the alignment of their business with IT is more needed. This is because with the
implementation of IT, it would be more conducive for Volkswagen to record and comprehend sales
figures. Also the communication between these units is needed as they are not integrated
throughout the enterprise so a technology based communication platform is required to align their
business strategies. This alignment was achieved to some extent by the establishment of the
Business Process, Technology and Organization (BPTO) which was an internal IT department to
manage and prioritize IT projects in coordination with the IT steering committee (ITSC) which
comprised of senior business and IT representative to guide the approval of the process. I feel that

Setting Of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas

How Setting Impinges Upon The Boy In The Striped The Striped Pajamas
In many fictional works the setting can change the whole story in the blink of an eye. The Boy In
The Striped Pajamas is a book set in WWII. However, the story is told through the eyes of a
young, innocent german boy named Bruno. Bruno s family lives in Berlin until Hitler orders Bruno
s father to move to Auschwitz to direct the camp. Bruno eventually meets and befriends one of the
Jewish prisoners living in the camp. Specific parts of the setting such as the weather and the time
period can heavily influence the mood, negatively or positively. Also, individual aspects of the
character s surroundings can provide the basis for important events and/or twists in the plot.
Character s thoughts, actions, and feelings can be developed with help from the setting. The setting
of a concentration camp negatively influences the mood, provides the basis for pivotal events in the
plot, and develops the character s thoughts and actions in The Boy In The Striped Pajamas.
The mood throughout the story is very often negatively influenced by the setting of a
concentration camp. The house in which Bruno and his family live at Auschwitz is small and
lonely. The new house, however, stood all on its own in an empty, desolate place and there were
no other houses anywhere to be seen, which meant there would be no other families around and no
other boys to play

Should Chocolate Milk Be Allowed In Schools
Should Chocolate Milk Be Banned From Schools
An Argument Essay by Andy Xu
A lot of schools and schools have asked this question. Should chocolate milk be allowed in
school? This is a question that the principal of of Westpark Elementary wants the answer to. She
decided to ask our fifth grade class. I think chocolate milk should be allowed in schools because
kids drink more chocolate milk than white milk and like it better, chocolate milk is actually really
nutritious and healthy, and because it makes a better drink than sports drinks or Cola.
First of all, you should know that chocolate milk is a lot more tasty than white milk. For example,
the article, Nutrition in Disguise states that children drink more flavored milk than white milk. ...

growth of children and disease prevention for adults. As I say this, I m realizing that chocolate
milk includes nutrients that children hardly get, while it s still a very healthy drink. Equally
important, chocolate milk doesn t have a lot of fat or no fat at all. In fact, the RockView brand
chocolate milk is one of the many fat free chocolate milk brands. Some people will argue that the
sugar will make you fat, but the sugar in chocolate milk can be burned off from exercising.
Children that drink chocolate milk instead of white milk don t consume more sugar, fat, or
calories, says the Midwest Dairy Association. This shows that children that chocolate milk indeed
does not have an effect on making you overweight. This makes me remember that most of my
class that buys lunch drinks chocolate milk. Indeed, barely anyone in my class is actually
overweight, and most of my class is actually really athletic. This is actual evidence that In fact,
chocolate milk actually helps you exercise. For example, sugar in chocolate milk would give you
energy throughout the day. In addition, chocolate milk makes a good drink after a workout.

The Evolution Of Flightless Birds
Evolution occurs when an animal species develops new bodily structures and functions in order to
adapt to their new environment. These developments are seen as positive adaptations that enhances
survival. However, some animal species have lost these new developments. Based on the
geographic location and climate, some evolutionary developments that are no longer needed are
lost due to the fact that the new bodily structure itself does not enhance the chance of survival in a
particular environment (Kirchman 2009; Vieites, et al. 2009). In most cases these lost
developments are passed down through future generations and are never redeveloped. However,
more information is needed to decide whether or not the loss of these evolutionary developments
was due to natural selection or by random mutation over years (Wilkens and Strecker 2003). In this
paper, I will examine three studies from a diversity of taxa, which illustrate the history of flightless
birds, how climate has influenced the evolutionof salamanders and how life lived in darkness has
influenced the blindness in cave fish. Together these studies depict how these evolutionary abilities
are lost and their affects on the animal species.
Krichman (2009) examined the ancestry of flightless birds (Gallirallus philippenesis) through the
usage of genetic testing that were sampled throughout a range of ancestral species. This was to test
a model of speciation where flightless birds were thought to have evolved from flying birds

Cheerleading is Not a Sport Essay
Cheerleading is Not a Sport
According to Joe Hatton, the author of the article, Sports Beat The sport of cheerleading: It s more
than just pompoms and smiles, cheerleading is a sport because it requires strength, balance, and
coordination. The major claim of the article is cheerleading is a sport plain and simple and
cheerleaders are true athletes (Hatton C 04). The article offers the following arguments in support
of the claim. Hatton claims because cheerleaders are athletes, cheerleading is a sport. Hatton also
says cheerleading is a sport because of the competitive aspects. We believe cheerleading is not a
sport, because not all cheerleaders compete. Most cheerleaders rarely, if ever, show athleticism.
Cheerleading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In cheerleading athleticism is not required and competitions are not held. Cheerleaders participate
in athletics as bystanders. They are there to support and entertain their school.
Entertainment and Athleticism Cheerleading is simply entertainment for viewers and is a social
club for its participants. Sports Beat The Sport of Cheerleading: It s a lot More than Just Pompoms
and Smiles, points out that a main benefit of cheerleading is the ability to easily transition into the
entertainment industry (Hatton C 04). This statement supports our belief that cheerleading should
not be considered a sport. Cheer leading, the leading of cheers at sporting events is not a sport.
Entertainment, versus athleticism, is more of what cheerleading is. Team supporters are present at
games/events to raise school spirit and encourage cheering. Cheerleading generally requires a
competition to be in progress, so the cheerleading itself can occur. This is not an activity which can
take place alone.
While there are some aspects of dancing and gymnastics involved, the purpose is to cheer at
sporting events, not to be an event itself. Although it is not a sport, it is worthy of praise on its
merits as entertainment. Much thanks to cheerleaders, fans come to support their friends and
school in the event of competitions.

Phantom of the Opera Review
Phantom of the Opera is the longest running musical to date and has become one of the most
beloved and well known musicals on Broadway. The musical was inspired and loosely based on
the characters and the story of the book Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. This CD is the
original London cast which means that this recording is with the first cast that ever preformed the
musical with the actors that created the parts. The musical was written and composed by Andrew
Lloyd Webberwho is one of the most famous musical composers and has composed some of the
most well loved musicals of the last fifty years. Webber created incredible and emotional music for
Phantom of the Operathat set this musical apart from all the others. One thing that makes
Phantom of the Opera a unique musical experience is because it does not try to fit into one genre
and does not try to be too modern. This makes it unique because most of today s musicals are
trying to be more pop culture. The Phantom of the Opera manages to stay in the time period where
the story takes place but weaves in modern comedy and rock music. The most obvious way that this
is done is with the main theme of the musical. The pounding of the organ is one of the most well
known themes in musical theatreand it is reminiscent of rock music with the guitar but it is
different than rock because it is an organ not a guitar. There are many other contrasts between old
and new in the musical. One contrast is of musical and opera. The

the residential neighborhood consists of modest brick buildings no more then six stories tall.
Borough Park does not boast Art Deco skyscrapers or wide avenues, which were known for in
New York at the time of its production in the early 20th century. Its only differentiating
characteristic is the constant repeated chatter of a specific ethnic group that persists all day long,

Jewish merchants, women pushing strollers, men ¬¬¬holding a Siddur (Jewish Prayer Book)
all thrive in this modern, densely populated street corner life. This interaction creates spatial and

The Effects Of Video Games On Pop Culture
Around the middle of the 20th Century man cultures started to grow beyond what they previously
were thanks to different mediums (such as television and music) helping to push boundaries; with
this came the birth of pop culture. Considering pop culture is a shortened version of popular
culture it s clear that many of the things in pop culture would be short lived. The short lived
trends and happenings are labeled as fads . Strangely enough, some fads are made to transform and
actually become a mainstay in the varying international cultures. One such example might be

This led to a market that was flooded with consoles and left many consumers confused. Adding
to this confusion was the fact that there wasn t many reliable sources for game information. The
market was overwhelmed with lackluster and poorly made games and no one was being
informed as to which games these were. So eventually people just stopped buying games. All of
this mixed with Atari manufacturing too many console units and games led to a market crash
many call The Video Game Crash of 83 causing many to label video games as a dying fad. Several
years had passed and a Japanese company by the name of Nintendo decided it wanted to enter the
market. Nintendo s Family Computer, or Famicom, was doing well in Japan and Nintendo wanted
to try and find success in North America. This proved to be difficult because America was still
wary on the idea of game consoles after the crash. To try and avoid the skepticism that came with
items labeled as a game console, Nintendo rebranded the Famicom as the Nintendo Entertainment
System and marketed it as a toy. Believe it or not, this actually worked and Nintendo became a
household name. In order to keep their success going Nintendo took steps to avoid another market
crash. Nintendo would put developers under a contract that kept them on their console and would
keep them from developing games for developers. Developers also had a limited amount of games

Existentialism In Hamlet
Hamlet is widely regarded as one of William Shakespeare s most famous and best written
tragedies. Its importance to history, due in part to the fact that the introspection of the main
character upon his dilemmas was rarely addressed in other popular plays, is felt to this day. Similar
to the likes of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, King Lear, and other
Shakespearean tragedies, it has been the subject of much critical analysis and literary review from
many approaches. In this essay, the historic, existentialist, traditional revenge tragedy,
psychoanalytic, and archetypal approaches will be used to understand the tragedy of Hamlet. The
time period in which the play was written is known as either the English Renaissance or the Early
Modern Era. The existence of both names seems to prove that Hamlet was penned in a period of
transition for England, and the characters within the tragedy all but confirm this conjecture.
Hamlet, the titular character, represents the modern half of the transition, acquiring an education
from a city where the transition was most prominent, while Claudius represents the medieval half,
claiming and subsequently abusing the traditional position of king through means of betrayal and
secrecy (Bernath 220). The time period also suggests that the introspection of the main character
upon his dilemma s in such a way as to question his own existence initially had an incredible
resonance with audiences, as such commentary on the human

What Is Ancient Greecenaean Culture
Ancient Greece
Greece is an important ancient civilization that is still alive today. Greece is an amazing country
with amazing culture . Greece has a rich and interesting history.
At various times in its history Greece included all of Epirus, Macedonia, and Thrace, part of Asia
Minor, and Magna Graecia. Archaeological remains show that Greecehad a long prehistory, dating
from the Neolithic Age (c.4000 B.C.). By the Bronze Age (c.2800 B.C.) important cultures had
developed. The Aegean civilization had several phases, two of the most important being the
Minoan civilization and the Mycenaean civilization. These cultures had disappeared by 1100 B.C.
The Greek speaking Achaeans migrated into the Peloponnesus during the 14th and 13th cent. B.C.
The Aeolians and the Ionians apparently preceded the Dorians, who migrated into Greece before

Gangs and Teenage Violence Essay
Gangs and Teenage Violence
A gang is a group of people who interact among themselves. Teen violence is contributed to these
gangs. Most gangs claim neighborhoods as their territory and try to control everything inside that
territory. This kind of antisocial behavior is a major problem in American Society.
Gang members are typical members of the same ethnic group. Fear and hatred for people of
another race is called xenophobia. People who are victims of racism are often racists themselves.
Rap music often features lyrics that are offensive to Asians, Jews, and African Americans. Earlier

Neuroplasticity and Justice
Justice is often thought of in nebulous terms. As such, it is often viewed through a philosophical
lens. Indeed, justice has been examined by prominent philosophers such as John Rawls and
Friedrich Hayek. Often regarded as a soft science, the idea of justice finds itself the subject of a
theoretical framework rather than of scientific study. Despite this theoretical view, much of the
theory surrounding justice seeks to determine the causes for a given type of behavior. These
theories discuss which penological methods work to correct these behaviors. However, the theory
that one can modify his or her brain in order to create new behaviors exists within the scientific
biological/psychological realm. By contrast, there are those... Show more content on

This is concurrent with the logical, conscious reasoning of the C system that overrides the X system
s prototypes in order to closely analyze a new situation and adapt accordingly. Thus, fairness
(justice) is an extension of cognitive behavioral regulation. Akin to the sense of reparation that
Jackman (2012) discusses when one applies the concept of restorative justice, the concept of
neuroplasticity also seeks a sense of reparation, albeit in a more literal way. Consistent with the idea
of learning and the brain s interaction with the environment, neuroplasticity is the idea that the
human brain can change and grow, that it can modify itself to compensate for weak spots and
expand limits (Cockrell, 2007). For example, it was once thought that neuron production slows
down exponentially in adulthood, but research reveals that this is not the case. Research has found
that the brains of aging cancer patients were still able to produce new neurons (Cockrell, 2007). The
human brain is an extremely complex organ. Inside the average human brain, there are 200 billion

What Are The Suburbanization Of Living Areas
During the 20th century technology had become more advanced, World War II had taken place,
and suburbanization had quickly fallowed. When World War II ended families began to have more
children and the economy boomed. Houses were built just outside the cities to accommodate the
population shift allowing people to escape the dirty citylife. Once the automobile had become
accessible, allowing people to commute to work, people had began to move out of the cities they
worked in and into these surrounding areas. This created the suburbs. Those who moved out of the
city and into these suburbs tended to be white middle class families that could afford the larger
houses in the more secluded areas. Different areas with different types and sizes of

James Chadwick Research Paper
Just In! James Chadwick Has Discovered The Neutron! It was a great day in May of 1932 and
when we finally received answers to the other particle in the nucleus. After many years of
questions and theories; one man James Chadwick has discovered a new uncharged particle, the
neutron. Chadwick had been studying to find this particle since 1914 in Germany with Hans
Geiger, unfortunately due to World War I he was arrested and his studies were put on halt.
Although he was in prison he was still able to do some scientific studies after creating a science
club with some fellow prisoners; and convincing the guards to allow them to have a lab. Eventually
he was released and return to England where he earned his PhD at Cambridge with Ernest

This information has not always been know to man though. Thankfully scientist such as J.J
Thompson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick were able to perform experiments to shed
more light on what the atom was made of. The electron was first found in 1897 by J.J Thompson;
shortly after in 1911 the nucleus was discovered by Rutherford, leading to him later discovering the
proton in 1919. Before James Chadwick discovered the neutron many scientists believed that there
were additional protons in the nucleus, along with the equal number of electrons to cancel out the
additional charge. Then in 1920 Rutherford thought that the protons plus the electrons made up a
new particle but it was never confirmed. After a few years of study John Chadwick was able to
discover the neutron through unidentified radiation experiments, one experiment in particular
caught his eye FrГ©dГ©ric and IrГЁne Joliot Curie had studied unidentified radiation from
beryllium as it hit a paraffin wax target. This experiment encouraged Chadwick to do some of his
own experiments in 1932 which made him believe that the radiation ejected from beryllium was in
fact a neutral particle about the mass of a proton. He also tried many other targets besides the
paraffin wax, these included helium, nitrogen, and lithium. These experiments led Chadwick to
find the the mass of the new particle was more than the proton, he also found out that the neutrons

The Japanese Culture Of Japan
The Japanese are a nation with a culture influenced by many yet uniquely Japanese and connected
to their past. They retain strong ties to their early legends, religions, and traditions while continuing
to progress with the rest of the world. With these ideas that have been passed down and preserved,
there have also been forms of dance and music that have been influenced by other countries, made
uniquely Japanese, and continued through today.
The Japanese people as we know them today were not the original inhabitants of the land. The
native people, the Ainu, were hunters and fishermen closer in resemblance to Caucasians. There is
now only a small group of them residing in the Northern section of Japan. The Japanese people are
believed, based on physical characteristics as well as language, to originate from central Asia.
Movement from mainland Asia continued throughout the history of Japan and played a large role
in how their culture developed. The country consists of four large islands all of which are lush
and mountainous. The people of Japan have survived because of their developments in agriculture,
supplemented by their fishing capabilities (Morton 6). Japanese religious ideas and beliefs have a
root in Shinto, a naturalistic religion with a focus in animism. Early Shinto legends express that the
land was created by, then inhabited by the gods Izanagi and Izanami. When Izanami died while
giving birth to the Fire God, Izanagi went to the underworld to retrieve her, only

SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the

worth to the United States as a Military Force. The Marine Corps part in the Civil War had been
small and not altogether impressive. Both the Army and the Navy did not regard the Marine

Many official German reports had called the attacking Marines teufel hunden, meaning Devil

afterward a U.S. Marine Recruiting Poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a

Every country seeks to further itself in many ways. In general, expanding is the best way to go.
This does not always include expanding the borders, but also the population and the production. Just
like any country, the United States has certain things in place to help aid expansion of our great
country. Immigrationcan be a huge help to boosting population and for recruiting more proud and

The Mexican American War By Daniel Timi

Mexican War
Daniel Timi His. 201 United States History to 1865 Professor Margiotta
The Mexican American War began on April 25, 1846. This placed the first U.S. armed conflict
chiefly fought on foreign soil. It marked politically dividend and militarily unprepared Mexico
against its expansionists minded administration of U.S. President James K. Polk. Polk strongly
believed the United States had an evident future to go across the continent in the Pacific Ocean. The
border encountered along the Rio Grande, which began with a fight, followed by a series of
numerous victories the United States. When the dust cleared, Mexico had lost roughly one third of
its region. The regions included all the states such as Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Utah.
At the end of the U.S. Mexican War, historians have divided into their explanations. Some historians
hold United States accountable while others put the blame on Mexico. The studies of the literature
show majority of writers have taken into consideration that neither country entirely unimpeachable.

The War Of 1812 And The United States
The War of 1812 is the second war between the United States of America and Great Britain that
ends in a draw. Also referred to as the Second War of Independence, the cause of this military
conflict is often believed to be a direct result of England s attempt to humiliate the United States,
limit the country s growth and impact (acts of interference towards American trade, which is a sign
of disrespect towards American independence), and acts of impressment (taking sailors off
American vessels and forcing them into providing services for the British Royal Navy). Although
the ultimate outcome of the War of 1812results in a tie, the Americans have faced several challenges
during the presence of their second dispute with Britain. Arguably, the main reason that caused the
United Statesto struggle during this Second War of Independence, is how unprepared the nation is
when it comes to fighting another series of battles.
During the War of 1812, the power of the army and navy forces in the United States of America
seems to be lacking in both its quantity and quality value of soldiers, weapons, and supplies. In
comparison to Great Britain, who, at the time, has the leading military in the world, boasting both
a powerful army and navy, the Americans appears to be at a clear disadvantage. According to
primary and secondary sources on www.napoleanseries.org, during the War of 1812, there were

The Disconnection By Alice Walker
In Everyday Use Historical Criticisms explores the disconnection that people can sometimes
have depending on their education. Alice Walker successfully shows the disconnection by
comparing two ends of the spectrum of generation. Taking the historical context it plays a major
role in the way this short story is viewed. It was a time where people of color had a different and
difficult experience getting an education. When the narrator was talking about having an

slammed. Why don t you take one of the others? No, said Wangero (Dee) I don t want those

heritage and her culture. In that short section it showed the difference of wanting to use the
quilt as an everyday item as some form of art to make a statement of showing how proud she was
her heritage during a time where colored people were oppressed. In the end of the story when
Dee leaves after the argument and has a dramatic exit while, her mother and Maggie just sit

there is a passive approach and then there is the new generation which is demonstrated as being a

God And The Truth Of The Bible
As a girl, I was raised in a Christian household that believed strongly in the belief of God and the
truth of the Bible. I have never really had experiences with other religions of the world since I
have always been a firm believer in Christianity. Prior to reading the chapter on Buddhism in my
book The World s Religions the only information that I knew about the Buddhist religion was that
there was meditation and a lot of relaxation involved, but I came to understand and respect the
Buddhist religion. I was able to gain insight on the different types of Buddhismbut also how one
achieves complete insight and serenity. In order to achieve complete insight and serenity there is a
Path one must take. This Path begins with the Four Noble Truths. This is the central teaching of
the Buddha. The teaching focuses on the reality of human suffering. The Four Noble Truths are;
all life is permeated by suffering, the cause of suffering is craving for existence, the craving of
existence can be eliminated, and the mode of doing this is by following the Noble Eightfold Path.
The first two aspects of the Path concern trust: they are Right Belief and Right Attitude. The next
three are to do with ethical conduct: Right Speech, Right Bodily Action, and Right Livelihood. The
last three, have to do with yoga or self training, which are; Right Effort, Right Self Awareness, and
Right Meditation. (Ninian Smart pg. 62) Achieving complete insight and serenity is also known as

Looking At The Late Antique World
Looking at the Late Antique world, writes Peter Brown in his seminal work The World of Late
Antiquity, we are caught between the regretful contemplation of ancient ruins and the excited
acclamation of new growth. Brown s work covers the years 150 750 AD a period of time too often
and mistakenly labeled as the dark ages. Brown does not make this mistake. Instead, he challenges
what seemed to be a grounded notion that the study of Late Antiquitywas one of decline and fall.
This was a time of transformation and continuity. Moreover, he moves beyond the narratives of the
barbarian invasions that brought about the end of the Roman Empire. There were no barbarian
invasions, as they were already gradually becoming Roman. That is, the barbarians had already
started to assimilate to Roman culture and, crucially, the Roman Empire did not end with the fall of
Rome as its capitol moved East. This is a constant theme running through the works of Brown.
Where some historians see decay, he sees growth.
Brown was arguing against the works of Mikhail Rostovtzeff and Edward Gibbon. Rostovtzeff
evoked a Roman world full of modern economic theory. He used terms such as capitalism and
bourgeoisie in his description of the ancient economy (ignoring the fact that they had no conception
of these terms, nor did they have a conception of an economy). This led to and seems to continue
today a debate between modernist and primitivist. While Brown does not deal with this

Who Is D Amville In Atheist s Tragedy
D Amville, the main antagonist in the tragedy The Atheist s Tragedy by Cyril Tourneur, ponders
the meaning of life throughout the play. After a climactic conversation with Borachio, D
Amville makes his stance on life very clear: life is limited, life is short, and the only way to
defeat the forces of nature and to extend life is through a healthy, wealthy, offspring. This idea
alone becomes the motive for many of D Amville s decisions: it is because of this concept that he
kills his brother, Montferrers; it is because of this ideology that he is determined to marry off his
son, and when that plot fails, this ideology is the main motivation for his attempted rape of
Castabella. In the beginning of the play, everything is going according to D Amville s... Show more

Every time D Amville speaks in verse, he follows the rhythmic patterns of iambic pentameter. As
he discusses the importance of his children to his life, asserting that There s my eternity...[which
will] add to life as much of happiness , D Amville follows the rules of iambic pentameter without
flaw (Tourneur, 254, 1.1.124 127). For example, in the lines And IN my REAson DWELLS the
PROvidENCE/to ADD to LIFE as MUCH of HAppiNESS , we see that there are five pairs of
stressed syllable and five pairs of unstressed syllables in each of these lines. Moreover, these
lines, just like many others in this section, correctly follow the unstressed, stressed pattern. He
does not waver, or mistakenly add or remove a syllable; rather he is entirely confident in his
speech. Throughout all of his lines, in this passage, his meter is fixed, and it is stable. During
the first few pages of the play, whenever D Amville speaks, he continues to use the same manner
in his speech. Just as he is unwavering in his speech, just as he is firm in his words, he is also
firm in the beliefs he expresses in these lines. He stresses that IN his reason, the solution lies. He
also stresses the word DWELLS, which also emphasizes his idea that reason is truly where he
believes happiness and providence reside. His speech is, therefore, a reflection of his attitude; just

Dualism Of Romanticism
The way Blicher portrays the family of the manor is idealistic, which aligns with the dualism of
Romanticism. The dualism of Romanticism puts forth that the ideal should be placed above the
reality (Monrad, 09 26 16, sl. 11). The manor is described as a peaceful place where it seems as
if it were newly white washed and decorated and the trees in the garden have taken on a beautiful
shade of pale green and everyone looks so content (Blicher 11). Miss Sophie can be related to the
Platonic triad: the good, true and beautiful (Monrad, 09 26 16, sl. 11). She has been associated

When the maid gave birth to a son, she mentions that the father was a lace pedlar, but the whole
house knows very well who the guilty one is (Blicher 21). Even though the harmonious
environment was maintained, in reality, the environment is chaotic that is filled with adultery.
This is revealed when Jens and Miss Sophie s relationship comes into light. This corresponds to
Blicher s theme of God being distant and the human world is dominated by spite and sexuality.
(Monrad, 10 21 16, sl. 3). Miss Sophie only wanted to live the rest of her life with the one she
loved, but God seemed to not have listened to her prayers. This also applies to Morten as he has
wanted to end his life multiple times throughout the story, but God never answered to his
prayers. Since Blicher was a clergyman, some Christian elements are visible within the short

short story. This entry consists of some passages from the Bible to indicate how Morten s fate is
related to God. He feels that he has wasted his life asking God what has become of these years

but has turned as dark as the moor due to his encounter with Miss Sophie (Blicher 33). The quote

The Arch and Dome were the most distinctive features of the ancient Roman architecture. Roman
buildings significantly differed from those of Greek and so the new architectural style was created.
Mainly because of high population densities and wealth in the cities, the ancient Romans
discovered their own architectural solutions. In particular, they applied arches and vaults as well as
building materials enabling them to attain the unprecedented progress in the construction of public
structures. The Colosseum, the basilicas, the Baths of Caracalla and the baths of Diocletian, the

Presidents Of The Great Presidents
Historian Arthur Schlesinger said the team Imperial Presidency is when a president uses more
power than the Constitution allows, and were able to avoid the checks and balances of our
constitutional system. In this paper, I am going to explore three presidents who many feel were
imperial presidents. While doing the research I was surprised how many great presidents had
people make a case that they were an imperial president. For example, I read many articles about
George Washington and Abraham Lincoln running imperial presidency. Abraham Lincoln is widely
considered one of our greatest presidents. The three presidents that I am going to focus my paper
on are Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, and George W. Bush. Lyndon Johnson took over as
President when John F. Kennedy was assassinated on a hot Dallas day. Many feel that the
government acted quickly after JFK was pronounced dead to move on actions that JFK was not
going to do in his presidency. Johnson sent over 22,000 troops to the Dominican Republic in 1965
without the approval of congress (Schlesinge, 1973). Johnson also sent combat troops in Vietnam.
People still have a bad taste in their mouth over the debacle in Vietnam. Vietnam ranks 4th among

Framework in the Goophered Grapevine Essay
Framework in The Goophered Grapevine
The frame narrative in Charles W. Chesnutt s The Goophered Grapevine creates a hidden tension
between the viewpoints of the internal narrator s voice and the voice of the external narrator.
Uncle Julius McAdoo is Chesnutt s internal narrator, and serves a storyteller in the story. He
exemplifies the characteristics of a former slave such as being uneducated and unable to speak
Standard English. Julius is old, poor, and uneducated. These characteristics set him up as being a
person that lacks credibility. However, early on in the story Julius claims his credibility as a
storyteller by saying Day ain na er a man in dis settlement w at won tell you ole Julius McAdoo uz

On the other hand, John had learned that North Carolina was a great state to cultivate grapes, and
his main goal was to move there to cultivate grapes while aiding in the improvement of his wife s
health. He had already observed the condition of the vineyard and was confident that he could
restore its productivity. The conflict of territory is present here.
The incongruity of the internal narrator and the external narrator is the element that sets up the
tension between the two characters. They both interact with each other cordially and respectfully.
However, there is a presence of internal arrogance between the two narrators. John thinks of himself
as smarter than Julius because he (Julius) is old, poor, and uneducated while Julius thinks he can
out smart John because he s younger, wealthier, and lacks knowledge of the area.
Julius is extremely good at storytelling because he yields to his audience and draws his audience
in from the beginning of the story to the end, which is a tool involved in tall tales. Julius is a
trickster and even illustrates his story with the character of a Yankee, who seemingly posses the
same shrewdness as Julius. His illustration of a shrew Yankee also seems to be an indirect insult
towards John because he too is a northerner.
In the frame structure, the two voices operating off each other raise a question of motive between
the two narrators. Julius motive is clearly to mislead John and Annie so that he will

Describe the observed relationship between salt concentration and the rate of bacterial growth.
MGT is defined as the time taken for the absorbance value to get doubled during a logarithmic
growth period. MGT calculated in the current observation is listed above. MGT attain lowered for
the given species.
What is the apparent optimum salt concentration for V. natriegens you observe from your data?
2 percent is observed as the apparent optimum salt concentration for V. natriegens in the observed
data.
Discussion
What do you observe about the effect of salt concentration on the rate of growth of V. natriegens?
The bacterial growth can be characterized into four distinct stages namely, lag phase, exponential
phase or log phase, stationary phase, decline or death phase. In the lag phase, contextual organism
acclimatized with the surroundings (Mohandas et al. 2017). In this phase, the cell grows but do not
replicate. Thus, no growth in cell mass is observed here. However, in the exponential phase, the
organism grows fast and divide rapidly. The observation denotes that with the increase in the
salinity or the concentration of the NaCl in

I Interned For The Copa Shorts Film Festival Essay
I interned for the COPA shorts film festival from August to December. I was a film reviewer, and
my duties and responsibilities were to essentially review any short films that were assigned to
me, and then write a review and rate them accordingly. I would be emailed whenever a new film
was sent to me via a website called FilmFreeway. Because my internship was primarily an online
one, my schedule was flexible, which gave me the opportunity to work at my own pace, rather than
at a fixed time every week.
I was work around 4 5 (maybe more, depending on how long the film is) hours a week, reviewing
any films that came my way. Shelley, my internship supervisor, understood that I was a full time
student and made sure that I was given ample time to watch and review these films. The way the
website operated was that I would sign into my account, and all of the videos that are assigned to
me would be available for viewing. I would watch the films as many times as I felt necessary. If I
watched a film more than 4 5 times, that usually meant that I found it perplexing, and difficult to
understand.
After I am done viewing these films numerous times, I would take time to contemplate what I
wanted to say about this film. I would write down bullet points about what I wanted to say for
my review. I would then take these bullet points and attempt to write a rough draft of a cohesive
review. I would read over the draft, and skim past the film to see if there s anything I missed. I
would then

  • 2. Does The First Cause Argument Show That God Exist Does the First Cause Argument show that God exists? The First Cause Argument (or cosmological argument ) as conjured by Thomas Aquinas (1225 7 March 1274), an Italian philosopher gives reasoning for the existence of a higher entity called God. Aquinas s argument brings forth the idea that the existence of the universe was orchestrated by a higher entity which in turn shows the existence of the higher entity. This is all based on the premise that everything has a beginning therefore the universe must have had a beginning. Therefore the First Cause argument stipulates that there must be something that caused the cause that caused the beginning of the universe. The distinguishing features of the post war period as identified by Matthews was of full employment, chronically rising prices, an abnormal ratio of domestic investment to income and relatively high growth in income per capita by historical standards. The success of the policy should not be overestimated due to the fact that comparisons of UK investment levels, fig 7, and those averages in Western Europe, fig 8, reveal that the UK is still comparatively lagging. The increase in the investment rate did however hold significance for the level of inflation during the period which was attributed to the shortage in the labour market. Sargent argues that the higher levels of investment, fig 7, in new machinery led to a greater requirement of labour than was released through the scrapping of old equipment and the growth of the labour market, leading to wage push inflation. The period of 1952 1963 saw chronic rises in, prices as illustrated in fig 4 and though the threat of inflation was of significant concern in the implementation of policies the conservative government never really managed to control the rate of increases. There were consecutive attempts to bring the level of inflation down with the government maintaining a current account surplus throughout the period. Many of the policies were still deemed as having too high of an inflationary risk, such as the expansionary policies of 1952 1955 where tax cuts were offered during a period where the economy was overheating suffering chronic inflation. These developments are seen as positive adaptations that enhances survival. However, some animal species have lost these new developments. Based on the geographic location and climate, some evolutionary developments that are no longer needed are lost due to the fact that the new bodily structure itself does not enhance the chance of survival in a particular environment (Kirchman 2009; Vieites, et al. 2009). In most cases these lost developments are passed down through future generations and are never redeveloped. However, more information is needed to decide whether or not the loss of these evolutionary developments was due to natural selection or by random mutation over years (Wilkens and Strecker 2003). In this paper, I will examine three studies from a diversity of taxa, which illustrate the history of flightless birds, how climate has influenced the evolutionof salamanders and how life lived in darkness has influenced the blindness in cave fish. One thing that makes Phantom of the Opera a unique musical experience is because it does not try to fit into one genre and does not try to be too modern. This makes it unique because most of today s musicals are trying to be more pop culture. The Phantom of the Opera manages to stay in the time period where the story takes place but weaves in modern comedy and rock music. Its importance to history, due in part to the fact that the introspection of the main character upon his dilemmas was rarely addressed in other popular plays, is felt to this day. Similar to the likes of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, King Lear, and other Shakespearean tragedies, it has been the subject of much critical analysis and literary review from many approaches. In this essay, the historic, existentialist, traditional revenge tragedy, psychoanalytic, and archetypal approaches will be used to understand the tragedy of Hamlet. The time period in which the play was written is known as either the English Renaissance or the Early Modern Era. The existence of both names seems to prove that Hamlet was penned in a period of transition for England, and the characters within the tragedy all but confirm this conjecture. Hamlet, the titular character, represents the modern half of the transition, acquiring an education from a city where the transition was most prominent, while Claudius represents the medieval half, claiming and subsequently abusing the traditional position of king through means of betrayal and secrecy (Bernath 220). The time period also suggests that the introspection of the main character upon his dilemma s in such a way as to question his own existence initially had an incredible resonance with audiences, as such commentary on the human ... Despite this theoretical view, much of the theory surrounding justice seeks to determine the causes for a given type of behavior. Akin to the sense of reparation that Jackman (2012) discusses when one applies the concept of restorative justice, the concept of neuroplasticity also seeks a sense of reparation, albeit in a more literal way. Consistent with the idea of learning and the brain s interaction with the environment, neuroplasticity is the idea that the human brain can change and grow, that it can modify itself to compensate for weak spots and expand limits (Cockrell, 2007). For example, it was once thought that neuron production slows down exponentially in adulthood, but research reveals that this is not the case. Research has found that the brains of aging cancer patients were still able to produce new neurons (Cockrell, 2007). The human brain is an extremely complex organ. Before James Chadwick discovered the neutron many scientists believed that there were additional protons in the nucleus, along with the equal number of electrons to cancel out the additional charge. Then in 1920 Rutherford thought that the protons plus the electrons made up a new particle but it was never confirmed. After a few years of study John Chadwick was able to discover the neutron through unidentified radiation experiments, one experiment in particular caught his eye FrГ©dГ©ric and IrГЁne Joliot Curie had studied unidentified radiation from beryllium as it hit a paraffin wax target. This experiment encouraged Chadwick to do some of his own experiments in 1932 which made him believe that the radiation ejected from beryllium was in fact a neutral particle about the mass of a proton. He also tried many other targets besides the paraffin wax, these included helium, nitrogen, and lithium. These experiments led Chadwick to find the the mass of the new particle was more than the proton, he also found out that the neutrons have no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They retain strong ties to their early legends, religions, and traditions while continuing to progress with the rest of the world. With these ideas that have been passed down and preserved, there have also been forms of dance and music that have been influenced by other countries, made uniquely Japanese, and continued through today. The Japanese people as we know them today were not the original inhabitants of the land. The native people, the Ainu, were hunters and fishermen closer in resemblance to Caucasians. There is now only a small group of them residing in the Northern section of Japan. The Japanese people are believed, based on physical characteristics as well as language, to originate from central Asia. Movement from mainland Asia continued throughout the history of Japan and played a large role in how their culture developed. The country consists of four large islands all of which are lush and mountainous. The people of Japan have survived because of their developments in agriculture, supplemented by their fishing capabilities (Morton 6). Japanese religious ideas and beliefs have a root in Shinto, a naturalistic religion with a focus in animism. • 27. The War Of 1812 And The United States The War of 1812 is the second war between the United States of America and Great Britain that ends in a draw. Also referred to as the Second War of Independence, the cause of this military conflict is often believed to be a direct result of England s attempt to humiliate the United States, limit the country s growth and impact (acts of interference towards American trade, which is a sign of disrespect towards American independence), and acts of impressment (taking sailors off American vessels and forcing them into providing services for the British Royal Navy). Although the ultimate outcome of the War of 1812results in a tie, the Americans have faced several challenges during the presence of their second dispute with Britain. Arguably, the main reason that caused the United Statesto struggle during this Second War of Independence, is how unprepared the nation is when it comes to fighting another series of battles. During the War of 1812, the power of the army and navy forces in the United States of America seems to be lacking in both its quantity and quality value of soldiers, weapons, and supplies. In comparison to Great Britain, who, at the time, has the leading military in the world, boasting both a powerful army and navy, the Americans appears to be at a clear disadvantage. No, said Wangero (Dee) I don t want those (Walker 292). Dee wanted the quilts to have them hanging on the wall at her house to show her heritage and her culture. • 31. Looking At The Late Antique World Looking at the Late Antique world, writes Peter Brown in his seminal work The World of Late Antiquity, we are caught between the regretful contemplation of ancient ruins and the excited acclamation of new growth. Brown s work covers the years 150 750 AD a period of time too often and mistakenly labeled as the dark ages. Brown does not make this mistake. Instead, he challenges what seemed to be a grounded notion that the study of Late Antiquitywas one of decline and fall. This was a time of transformation and continuity. Moreover, he moves beyond the narratives of the barbarian invasions that brought about the end of the Roman Empire. There were no barbarian invasions, as they were already gradually becoming Roman. That is, the barbarians had already started to assimilate to Roman culture and, crucially, the Roman Empire did not end with the fall of Rome as its capitol moved East. This is a constant theme running through the works of Brown. Where some historians see decay, he sees growth. Brown was arguing against the works of Mikhail Rostovtzeff and Edward Gibbon. Rostovtzeff evoked a Roman world full of modern economic theory. He used terms such as capitalism and bourgeoisie in his description of the ancient economy (ignoring the fact that they had no conception of these terms, nor did they have a conception of an economy). This led to and seems to continue today a debate between modernist and primitivist. While Brown does not deal with this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After a climactic conversation with Borachio, D Amville makes his stance on life very clear: life is limited, life is short, and the only way to defeat the forces of nature and to extend life is through a healthy, wealthy, offspring. This idea alone becomes the motive for many of D Amville s decisions: it is because of this concept that he kills his brother, Montferrers; it is because of this ideology that he is determined to marry off his son, and when that plot fails, this ideology is the main motivation for his attempted rape of Castabella. Just as he is unwavering in his speech, just as he is firm in his words, he is also firm in the beliefs he expresses in these lines. He stresses that IN his reason, the solution lies. This corresponds to Blicher s theme of God being distant and the human world is dominated by spite and sexuality. (Monrad, 10 21 16, sl. 3). Miss Sophie only wanted to live the rest of her life with the one she loved, but God seemed to not have listened to her prayers. Results Figure 1: Salt concentration 0.5% Figure 2: Salt concentration 1% Figure 3: Salt concentration 3.5% Figure 4: Salt concentration 7% Table: Mean generation time for Vibrio natriegens grown at different concentrations of NaCl. % NaCl supplemented in broth mediumMGT (min) 0.5%31 1.0%42 3.5%40 7.0%36 Describe the observed relationship between salt concentration and the rate of bacterial growth. MGT is defined as the time taken for the absorbance value to get doubled during a logarithmic growth period. MGT calculated in the current observation is listed above. MGT attain lowered for the given species. What is the apparent optimum salt concentration for V. natriegens you observe from your data? 2 percent is observed as the apparent optimum salt concentration for V. natriegens in the observed data. Discussion What do you observe about the effect of salt concentration on the rate of growth of V. natriegens? The bacterial growth can be characterized into four distinct stages namely, lag phase, exponential phase or log phase, stationary phase, decline or death phase. In the lag phase, contextual organism acclimatized with the surroundings (Mohandas et al. 2017). In this phase, the cell grows but do not replicate. Thus, no growth in cell mass is observed here. However, in the exponential phase, the organism grows fast and divide rapidly. The observation denotes that with the increase in the salinity or the concentration of the NaCl in ... • 42. I Interned For The Copa Shorts Film Festival Essay I interned for the COPA shorts film festival from August to December. I was a film reviewer, and my duties and responsibilities were to essentially review any short films that were assigned to me, and then write a review and rate them accordingly. I would be emailed whenever a new film was sent to me via a website called FilmFreeway. Because my internship was primarily an online one, my schedule was flexible, which gave me the opportunity to work at my own pace, rather than at a fixed time every week. I was work around 4 5 (maybe more, depending on how long the film is) hours a week, reviewing any films that came my way. Shelley, my internship supervisor, understood that I was a full time student and made sure that I was given ample time to watch and review these films. The way the website operated was that I would sign into my account, and all of the videos that are assigned to me would be available for viewing. I would watch the films as many times as I felt necessary. If I watched a film more than 4 5 times, that usually meant that I found it perplexing, and difficult to understand. After I am done viewing these films numerous times, I would take time to contemplate what I wanted to say about this film. I would write down bullet points about what I wanted to say for my review. I would then take these bullet points and attempt to write a rough draft of a cohesive review. I would read over the draft, and skim past the film to see if there s anything I missed. I would then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asimov wrote and published this book in 1950 to express his concerns and to inform the audience of how humanity s future may turn out to be. The book is based on the year, 2035, where highly intelligent robots fill public service positions throughout the world, operating under three rules to keep humans safe. In this future, scientists discover a conspiracy that many enslave human race using technology and robotics. Dr. Calvin plays one of the main role in this book since she is a scientist that has many achievements from her field of robotics. She is a robopsychologist who uses many different methods of problems solving to solve the problems that other scientists and mathematicians were incapable of doing. Through these many adventures in the field of robotics, Dr. Susan Calvin displays her many character traits to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
