Teaching Session On Problem Based Learning
I appreciated the opportunity to deliver a teaching session on Problem Based
Learning (PBL) for my classmates. As can be seen in Tables 1 and 2, reviews were
overwhelmingly positive, with 94% of respondents indicating strong agreement or
agreement, and the remaining 6% neutral. As it turned out, the act of giving the
presentation was just as informative as the feedback, and provided for moments of
realization on my part in the midst of activity. As can sometimes happen, even a
well thought out idea may not quite work out as you anticipate, either due to a
miscalculation in design or failure to engage students. I wanted to begin with a
PBL activity as a way to introduce the idea, structure, and use of PBL prior to
actually defining the method. In the end this strategy was largely successful, with
students sharing, as can be seen in Table 3 outlining comments, The activity was
good and I loved the activity up front and that we were doing PBL before we knew it!
That said, one student did offer the first convo was a little shaky; mostly because we

Day On The Hill
My experience from the day on the hill was a complete opposite of what I thought
it would be. When I first started this program, I wasn t interested in policy. I
thought this class was going to be extremely boring. After we started looking for
our bills, my mind was blown of how important those bills were. Some of the bills
affected me directly on a professional and a personal level. The billwe choose for our
assignment was a perfect example. Our bill was about immigrants and their families.
I am an immigrant myself and I would have never known about the bill if I didn t
have this assignment. I knew social workers were important but I didn t realize how
much of an impact they made.

It was horrible, Mark Green was speaking and was frustrated at the chairmen. They
were also frustrated at him and it sounded like they were just arguing. Again, I didn
t learn much since it wasn t organized and they did put our bill off that day. We, as
a group, attended 2 additional committees the day of the day on the hill. We saw
that Senator Green was talking, so we entered the hearing. The hearing was talking
about gun control but as soon as we sat down, they moved on and went to lunch.
The bill proposed that ex felons get their right back to own a weapon only if they
turned their lives around. We didn t hear much of the argument, but in my opinion, it
was a poor idea and his argument wasn t strong enough. If they committed a crime
before, they will again. The second hearing was not organized at all as well. The
sponsor amended the bill but the chairmen didn t get the updated bill. They spent
over fifteen minutes attempting to figure out what the sponsor was talking about. We
finally gave up and left since we were running out of
