Jeannette Is The Narrator Of Her Memoir, Telling Her Story
Jeannette is the narrator of her memoir, telling her story from age three into adulthood. As a child
she is adventurous, wild hearted, and Dad s favorite. Jeannette, a middle sibling, is closer to
younger brother Brian than her older sister Lori: Brian shares Jeannette s love of the outdoors,
while Lori is more a bookworm. As Jeannette matures, her feelings toward Dad and Mom change.
She resents Dad s drinking and how he constantly lets her and the rest of the familydown yet never
openly admits it or allows his flaws to be discussed. Jeannette also resents Mom s refusal to hold
down a job long enough to provide her kids with a stable food supply. These resentments make her
more and more willful and independent. Eventually she scrapes... Show more content on

Anotated Bibliography
Annotated Bibliography Working Thesis: Organ Donors should be able to have the right to choose
if their organs after death will be donated to another without any complications even if they die of
brain death or euthanasia, inside or outside a medical facility, as well as laws should be put in place
or an alternative method stating that their wishes no matter what the family thinks, due to ethical or
moral issues, should be honored.
Organs are going to waste every year because not enough people are donating their organs. Many
people choose to donate but their family members decide not to let them donate after they pass

brain death. Bioethics, 24(2), 54 60. 21 February 2013. Retrieved from www.ebscohost.com
Summary: the main purpose of this article is to inform people of the ethical issues in different
religions and how they are not very different among them. Ethical issues come into play when
they are taking organs from people who die due to brain death and are still in a vegetative state.
We don t actually know if they are dead in that situation. This article provides ethical issues related
to why so many different cultures won t donate the organs when their loved ones are on life support
because of brain death.
Evaluation: this article can be useful because it provides me with a more balanced argument. I
can give the points of ethics where they do want to donate but also when they refuse to donate.
This is different from other articles because it shows the opposite side of the argument. This
article seems credible but at first it did not when Google was mentioned. The article was actually
stating Google to point out that Google isn t a reliable source. This article gives relative facts of
ethics and uses many different

The White Heron Character Analysis
The short story, The White Heron , written by Sarah Jewett, gave me a moral that many people
need to remember for their entire lives. The moral that I personally received from the story was
that life isn t just about money. It s so much more than just what life can buy. The main
character, a young girl, Sylvia, taught us this lesson by sacrificing plenty of money, enough to
support her and her grandmother, to instead assist a creature of the world. Personally, I liked this
story because it sounds like something I might do. I would definitely give up any reward
somebody offered to save a creature that deserved its life. I don t need the money badly enough to
allow another creature be killed for me to receive what I really wouldn t deserve.... Show more

One of my favorite quotes is when she is informing us about the swaying trees that Sylvia is
climbing. The tree seemed to lengthen itself out as she went up, and to reach farther and farther
upward. Another time, the author is describing Sylvia and how lonely she is and says, ...as if
she had never been alive before coming to the farm... Also, when she described the hunter. She
didn t dare look too boldly at the tall young man, who carried a gun over his shoulder... Some of the
dialogue is interesting as well. Such as when Sylvia is calling for the cow, she says: Co

Conch Symbolism
Throughout the book the conch develops as motif and it keeps reoccuring because it has
symbolic meaning to it. The conch symbolizes order, civilization and voice. Piggy and Ralph
found the conch at the beach and they use it to bring all the boys together after the plane crash.
The conch symbolizes order and rules because of the meaning the boys give it, the conch is just
a random shell but they value it which makes it important. The conch is extremely important to
Piggy because it makes him feel like they ll have rules!..Lots of rules and when anyone breaks em

instead of being chaotic. It represents civilization because the boys work together

Job Description
Producers have financial and administrative control over the making of movies, plays, and TV
shows. Producers hire directors, principal members of the cast, and negotiate contracts with artistic
personnel, often in accordance with collective bargaining agreement ( Actors, Directors, and

(CIC 154). Movie producers may be employed by film studios or may work independently.
Producers who work for large film companies usually have experience both in films and
business. The job of producer can be approached from either field. A lot of money goes into
these productions, and the producer s job is to raise the money needed and see that it s spent
wisely. It s the producer s responsibility for ultimately turning a profit for the investors. A good
producer would recognize a successful show or movie while it s still in planning stages. A smart
producer spots a bad idea, more often than not, before too much money is wasted on it (CIC 154).

Education Required
There are no standard educational or training requirements for the position of producer (CIC

have also trained as actors in dramatic arts schools. People who may be accepted need at least a
bachelor s degree or two years of on set experience and also must pass written tests. Courses in
acting and communications can be helpful. College drama courses in liberal arts, stage speech and
movement, directing, playwriting, history of drama, and design and play production can be helpful
also. (GIS 1).

The Enhanced

1. What is the enhanced screening process ?
Since October 2012 an enhanced screening process has been applied to all unauthorised maritime

Australia s non refoulement obligations prohibit the removal of anyone from
Australia to a country where they are in danger of death, torture or other mistreatment, including
arbitrary detention.1

Discuss how the fight scene achieves its effect: The bamboo forest fight scene in the movie

A Prayer for Owen Meany Essay
A Prayer for Owen Meany
Not the least of my problems is that I can hardly even imagine what kind of an experience a
genuine, self authenticating religious experience would be. Without somehow destroying me in
the process, how could God reveal himself in a way that would leave no room for doubt? If there
were no room for doubt, there would be no room for me.
Frederick Buechner
In the novel, A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving, Owen Meany s belief of predestination
makes a significant impact on John Wheelwright s emotional stability as an adult. John
Wheelwright is unhealthily bitter and angry about his past experiences because he clings to a past
that never lets him choose. This bitterness fuels his repugnance towards the ... Show more content

As John grew older, he became hurt and obsessed with the whole notion. He always thought of
what ifs and if only to assuage his evident wrath for the loss of his mother.
John s troubled soul was fueled by hatred towards Owen s control for his destiny, the kind of
control that John never has in his own life. The events leading up to the Vietnam War and beyond
were out of his authority, however, as destiny has it; it is inescapably going to happen. The war
itself indirectly took the life of John s best friend and John always felt helpless and responsible
thinking that somehow he should have taken some kind of control in order to change
occurrences. Due to Owen Meany s belief that he is an instrument of God and that God has set a
task for him to complete, Owen does his best to fulfill each part of his destiny. John does not
understand why Owen bothered, John himself having so little faith and acceptance in destiny
and fate. Owen has control over which path in life he should take, he could follow God s orders,
or he could ignore his calling and not do as his fate would have to save the little Vietnamese
children. John s feeling of helplessness in the fate that has befallen Owen makes him feel
responsible and angry because he thinks he could have tried to persuade Owen to avoid his
destiny. Moreover, John is angry by Owen s faith in God and his acceptance of his destiny by
living his life accordingly rather than avoiding it, the control that John never

Luther s Father Stand Alone Summary
To provide an overview of what the Allotment Policy was, it was also known as the Dawes Act.
As mentioned within class discussions, it was named after Senator Henry Dawes. This policy
allowed Indian people to receive a portion of land. Indian tribal land would be divided into small
sections or allotments. These would be for Indian families or individuals. When it comes to how
many acres will be provided, it all depends on who it is. The amount of land granted to each
family is 160 acres. On the other hand, 80 acres will be given per individual. Orphans who are
under 18 years of age, can only receive half of the land an individual would get. In that case, they
receive 40 acres. Once the allotment was processed and completed, meaning people... Show more

Some tribes may include the Cherokee and Hopi. According to our class lectures, there was an
outrage due to the allotments. The Cherokee who are from Oklahoma, expressed their thoughts in
front of Congress. Due to the strategy used when it came to the Allotment Policy, the land was
difficult to farm on. In class we had discussed how the profits of all the corn produced would only
make a slight dent within debt. As a result of bad crops growing, the debt started to accumulate. It
was thought that the entire system was rigged. The allotments became a checkerboard. The
meaning behind the term checkerboard, is that Indian families or individuals were becoming
surrounded by White settlers who claimed open land. The goal of the checkerboard was to break up
the Native American communities. Not to forget, the Hopi had petitioned that they needed more
land due to infertility of the soil. Although they tried to voice their opinions, feedback or answers
were never given back. Eventually, they had given

Ethical Issues In America
Many Americans have the luxury of purchasing new electronics almost every year. Something
that is ignored, since it has become so natural, is exactly how their little devices had come to their
lives and what happens when it is thrown away. In a more perfect world, the production of
electronics would that of an ethical process, but it is unfortunately not that case. It all starts with
the harvesting of raw materials. When bringing up the idea of a 100 percent ethically sourced
smartphone, Caroline Winter quotes from researcher for the company Fairphone, That would be
nearly impossible, says Bibi Bleekemolen, a researcher for the company (Winter). This was
followed by a conversation of the main suspect guilty for causing the production... Show more

elements known to cause cancer. Such elements include lead, mercury, and chromium. Something
that Jefferson also brings to attention is that these conditions can become better, he mentions that

Speed Limits Of The Transport Industry
Speed limit in the transport industry is not a new phenomenon, and they are laws and by laws
that limit the speed of vehicles at a specific stretch of roads. Majority of countries around the
world have speed limits on all roads or on specific roads. Moreover, majority of the speed limit
rules apply in populous areas such as urban centers and residential areas. Other speed limits
might also apply in some regions with higher population of animals along the roads. Road signs
are used to indicate speed limits. In some cases, the speed limit law or by laws is not strict
(Lund, 2007). There are many reasons why speed limits can be necessary in Halifax region, and
there are many reasons why it makes sense to implement speed limits is because they have worked
in other cities and nations. Otherwise, the most important impact is the significant reduction in road
accident as a result of speed limits. Speed limits have existed since the steam engine error in the
19th century where the United Kingdom set the maximum speed at 10 kilometers per hour.
However, it is important to note that the reasoning behind the speed limit could have been different
from the modern speed limits reasoning. In the 19th century, technology advancement in the
transport industry was at infant stages, therefore, the lawmaker could not image a huge machine
traveling at a relatively high speed. This means that a speed of 10 kilometer per hour could be a
low speed when modern technology is considered, but could be

Fidel
Organization Leadership Assignment
Fidel Castro is one of the most recognizable leaders in world history. He led Cuba as Prime
Minister and, subsequently, as President for almost fifty years. He was born and raised upper
middle class as his father was a very successful farmer and did quite well for himself and his family.
There were several key events that led to Castro s rise as a powerful leader and shaped him into
the man who successfully led the Cuban revolution. First of all, although he benefited from a decent
education and was exposed to the upper echelon of society at times, he also played with and grew
up around the children of the migrant workers of the farm. He maintains that this conservative

Fidel s resilience and determination were unwavering. In the face of a horrible defeat, he pushed
on, regrouped, and changed his tactics but never forgot to keep the end goal in view. Between
December 31, 1958 and January 2, 1959, Castro s group of eighty two soldiers defeated Batista s
army and forced him into exile.
Castro s personal leadership philosophy was based on Marxism. He stated the following :
Marxism taught me what society was. I was like a blindfolded man in a forest, who doesn t even
know where north or south is. If you don t eventually come to truly understand the history of the
class struggle, or at least have a clear idea that society is divided between the rich and the poor,
and that some people subjugate and exploit other people, you re lost in a forest, not knowing
anything. He truly believed that a revolution led by the working class was the only way to bring
about true political change so he went about infiltrating the working class society and was exposed
to Havana s poorest neighbourhoods and racial and class discrimination that only fueled his fire in
the pursuit of equality. As Prime Minister, Castro s regime was highly popular amongst the working
class and students. Batista s regime had grown unpopular amongst the Cuban people and it was this
discontent that allowed Castro to gain public support en masse and emerge as a revolutionary hero.
He had an empathetic approach towards the downtrodden and

Analysis Of The Joy Of Secrecy
I
The Joy of Secrecy
Dear reader, I ask you to accompany me on a journey through the mind of a great creator. Not the
Great Creator, mind you, but only one, and that one is myself. Many would consider me to be a
rash man, one of immense skill but little actual talent, one who believes more intensely than
rational thought may permit. And in that sense, they consider me to be a dreamer. But what a
perfect profession I have found! It is the most acceptable profession for a dreamer to have, in my
honest opinion, for what other type of work allows one to make his dreams a reality? Truly,
animation is the one true profession for dreamers, the most accepting line of work for such strong
and skilled personalities. I, myself, find that life is merely a composition of brush strokes and
feathered lines sketched by a hand careless in its execution. A hand that may erect and raze as it
wishes, or, in such cases as my own, as it is commanded by an even higher power than that which
wills life from vacuous space.
Among my company my associates, if you will, or if you will not, my coworkers I alone dare to
dream of the unreality of life, dare to reject the hand that abides by no mortal law or rule of
happiness. My lines do more than animate ink and paper in a sort of strange necromancy. From
my own hand I bestow life upon flat bodies, make them twist and turn and sing the body electric . I
am a special sort of man, a unique form of animator, one who dreams more than most, often more

Simon Bolivar And George Washington
Two Heroes, One Continent

The strategies of war for both were very different. Bolivar used strong military strategies and had
a brilliant use of cavalry and flanking. He was also a supporter of the use of the surprise factor in
battles. He had an advantage, the British forces helped him to win. Nevertheless, he participates

the development of a traditional war, he was convinced of the effectiveness of harassing the British.
I use it by much the military tactic called Fabiana. One of the most important was the victory

In terms of political strategies. the vision of bolivar always involved people as part of the
nation. Simon Bolivar was a stronger general. Was unable to create his republic. Bolivar tried to
use authority to create stability, but failed. in some years later his vision was clouded by the
victory and began to develop characteristics dictatorial. He was commonly seen as a dictator from
his authoritative views. He declared himself dictator of Gran Colombia in 1828.
Washington was the stronger leader for allowing his country to develop. Washington stood down

The Era Of The 1920s
The 1920s was a pivotal era in women s fashion an era that saw Prohibition, Jazz and celebration
of war s end. Gone was the hourglass figure of the 19th Century, swept away by the World War I,
and replaced by the figure of a modern, independent woman. This book covers fashions from 1920
to 1924, an often overlooked period of fashion which was a time of transition between the draped
and layered fashions of the post World War I era and the free and easy gowns of the jazz age flapper
.
Before the Roaring Twenties, women were still wearing floor length dresses with corsets, and
crinolines, arms and legs were covered, hair was long. This Gibson girl look was set the standard
for beauty, fashion and manner. And the Victorian attitudes toward dress and etiquette created a
strict moral climate.
Until 1920s things changed quickly, the women was given the right to vote, they began to attend
college. The Equal Rights Amendment was proposed in 1923. The World War I was over and men
wanted their jobs back. Women, though, who had taken up men s jobs while they were at war, had
proved themselves worthy of men s jobs, so many organizations and feminist reformers took up the
task to encourage gender equality.
Many important things happened in the 1920 s like prohibition and jazz music. Something that is
also very significant is that this was the decade where fashion began entering a modern era. After
decades of Victorian style, clothing such as corsets and petticoat, fashion was finally

Disadvantages Of Crude Oil
1.Introduction: Crude oil Crude oil is a mixture of molecules bonded together in chains called
hydrocarbons, hydrogen and carbons, and mostly consists of a family of hydrocarbons called
alkanes (CnH2n+2). Figure 1 1 displays a type of hydrocarbon. As a leading product on the
global market we think of crude oil as a valuable substance, but are there more efficient materials,
less pollutant substances and more reliable constituents that can support our future? Crude oil is
formed from the remains of deceased fauna and flora which were compressed under large
segments at excessive pressures and temperatures. Crude oil is known as a non renewable or
finite resource and will eventually deplete making it a limited resource that takes hundreds of
years to develop, so finding a replacement to help transition the reliance on crude oil is crucial.
Crude oil is used in a range of everyday items such as plastics, fuel, heating oil and other
important products. If the price of crude oil rises the prices of fuel, food, clothing, everything
rises with it. This could result in a major global crises but using alternatives would ease or even
erase this problem. [1] 2.Industry and producer choices short term Many modern industries use
plastics and other hydrocarbon forms like polystyrene in their products because of their qualities,
values and properties. For example our food industry. Our food packaging consists of plastic

Essay on The Rise on Prescription Drug Abuse
Many of Americans have been diagnosed with chronic pain. In fact according to the Institute of
Medicine 116 million United States adults live with chronic pain. The majority of these adults do
not seem to receive the adequate treatment needed to help them to cope or to treat their pain. This
is primarily due to the physicians not being able to efficiently diagnose their patients, and or the
physicians lack the knowledge of the best ways to help manage the paintheir patients are
experiencing. This is why most people believe that Physicians are the main cause for the rise of
prescription drug abuse (Garcia, 2013). Between the years of 1999 and 2010 the amount of

In these particular cases the children choose to try out the painkillers, and no doctor prescribed
them to the children.
There are also cases where one has a surgery or medical procedure and gets prescribed pain
medication, because they legitimately need it to help with their pain from their procedure, and they
decide that they like the feeling that they get while taking the pain medicine. The feeling one gets
when they take pain medicine while they are not in pain can make one want to always feel that
way. Taking painkillers can cause dreamy feelings. One relates that feeling with the suppressed
emotions that they feel while on the painkillers and then they start to chase that feeling. This is
another way that people get drawn in by painkillers and can be the start of their addiction (Wood,
2014).
When people become addicted to painkillers they will do anything to achieve that high that they
once felt while taking the drug. A popular way for one to get the prescriptions that they want is to
obtain prescriptions for painkillers from multiple doctors (Cepeda, Fife, Chow, Mastrogiovanni,
Henderson, 2012). This is also known as doctor shopping. It allows one to get more painkillers, for
the same problem, from different doctors. The

brutal and stressful time for anyone that had to experience it. There are people out in the world that
are still alive from the Holocaustand they tell stories about what they had to do and also what they
had to deal with during the Holocaust. People may think that it is dumb to not forget about the
Holocaust and we should all forget about it so we can move on from it but we need to know what
happened so that whatever happened in the Holocaust could never happen to us.
It is therefore important to remember the Holocaust because it is an example of how these
trends could evolve into something far more threatening. However, the Holocaust is more than a
warning for the past. The human cost of the lost of six million lives is incalculable; consider
what could have been achieved by those who died, what could have been discovered, written,
invented and prevented. There is a very long list of Holocaust survivors who have positively
contributed to society but they represent a tiny portion of talent and promise of the generations of
European jews lost to us. Many did there best to assimilate wherever they were by simply building
new ordinary live for themselves.
Another reason why we should never forget the Holocaust is because in the book The Night it was

The Treatment Of Physician Assisted Suicide
Just imagine...the invitation arriving in the mail, it was no ordinary invite. The days of physical
misery and suffering that lead up to this final celebration of life were unbearable to watch.
Having a terminally ill family member is hard because you know the days, weeks and months
are numbered. Quality of life, what is that anyway? Each passing hour has the quality of life
diminishing to unimaginable physical pain and anguish. Watching someone you love slip away
and turn into a shell of who they once were is unbearable. This invitation is special. This special
day and every precious hour will give the loved ones a time to say goodbye just before they die
with dignity in physicianassisted suicide. Terminally ill patients have the right to end their own
lives using physician assisted suicide (PAS) without repercussions of laws and people with
opposing opinions.
According to an article from CNN.com, there are currently five states in the U.S. where physician
assisted suicide is currently legal. In order to be eligible legally for PAS the patient must have six
months or less to live. In the states of Oregon, California, Vermont, Washington and Montana a
physician can prescribe medications to move along the death without being prosecuted for murder.
It is hard to know the correct statistics on just how many physician assisted suicides happen across
the U.S. Since it is illegal in the majority of the states it is not something that is reported because

Liver Cirrhosis Research Paper
Liver Cirrhosis The liver is the second largest organ of the body and is located on the upper right
side of the abdomen where it is protected by the rib cage. A healthy liver is essential for the
functioning of the digestive system. It has the ability to repair and replace injured tissue
however unmanaged liver diseases can cause irreversible damage to the liver. This results in
liver cirrhosis which the end or the last of the four stages of liver disease. Some of the important
functions of the liver are, to produce bile to break down fats and carbohydrates, synthesise

Liver cirrhosis is life threatening. It is therefore important to reduce the risk of liver disease to
avoid cirrhosis. Check family history for hereditary liver diseases as one might be of high risk
for the disease and get tested immediately. Get vaccinated for hepatitis and other viruses. Abstain
from drinking alcohol to avoid blood poisoning. Eat a well balanced diet and exercise regularly

What Was The Impact Of The Indian Removal Act
The trail where they cried. One of four Native Americans died during the forced march to new

that all the Native Americans living east of the Mississippi River had to move west of the

On May 28, 1830, Jackson signed the Removal Act, which authorized the president to grant
unsettled lands west of the Mississippi River in exchange for Indian lands within existing state
borders. (Legends, 1) As incentives to the Indians to sign the Removal treaties, the government
promised financial assistance for relocation and the protection of the United States government
forever. (Indian, 2) In 1831, the Choctaw were the first to leave under threat of United States

Approximately 4,000 Cherokees died. (Legends, 2) In 1836, the Creeks were also forced from

Tb Is An Infectious Disease
What is TB?
TB is an infectious disease. This means that disease causing pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses,
fungi and protoctists, attack and contaminates the host s cells, then spreads to other cells within the
body.
Pathogens can be spread in many different ways which are: horizontal/vertical the disease is passed
through to the baby from the mother, either from the placenta or breast feeding; direct when you
come in direct contact with the pathogen; waterborne the disease comes from water you drink; food
you eat an infected item; vector another animal transfers it to you; airborne, the disease circulates

This will cause chest pains and night sweats.
TB is more likely to develop if you have HIV/AIDS, are an alcoholic, abuse drugs, or live in damp,
overcrowded conditions. People with weaker immune systems, are also more susceptible.
How to avoid the spread of the disease
A vaccine containing a weakened version of the bacterium has been produced, called Bacille
Calmet Guerin (BCG) to prevent the spread of TB. This is often given to people aged 16 35 and
those more likely to catch the disease, i.e. people travelling to, and staying in, countries where the
infection is more likely to occur, healthcare practitioners, homeless shelter workers and immigrant
hostel workers.
Whilst working with an active TB patient, the spread of this disease can be easily avoided by
washing hands, before and after a task is completed, wearing the appropriate P.P.E. (personal
protective equipment), and making sure it is clean, never using needles more than once, and
correctly disposing of them. Surfaces should be wiped down with disinfectant, before and after
use, and all equipment must be sterile, to prevent cross contamination and there are procedures you
should always follow to keep both yourself and your patient safe. Always wipe down surfaces
before and after use, with disinfectant.

Essay on Cuisines and Cultures from Columbia and Ecuador
Families have food and drink recipes created and passed down from generation to generation.
Some families are known for their specialty dishes. Countries are no different as they have special
items that they grow and export. There are menu items that represent the self image and identity of
the country. Cultural traditions will determine the what, and why of a particular cuisine. These
foods are served in restaurants as well as homes with pride. There will usually be a well told story
behind the selection. Agricultural conditions will sometimes play a significant role in the finished

Popular Beverage Items of Colombia and Ecuador
When traveling to Columbia, there are several specialty drinks that are native to the region. One
who may prefer a non alcoholic beverage may choose a Colombiana, a tamarind soda. When it
comes to alcoholic beverages, rum tends to be the popular choice. According to South America
(2014), The Colombian rum is high quality and is likely to be drunk at night clubs. Unlike in
Europe or North America where you can order a single drink mixed with rum, here it is
generally served as an entire bottle (p. 1). Colombians usually drink rum at a table in a group
with over ice with a splash of lime. In Ecuador, canelazo is a widely popular alcoholic beverage.
It is a spicy yet sweet drink that is served warm in the Northern Ecuadorian regions. According to
Metropolitan Touring (2014), It is made with water, cinnamon sticks (canela), brown sugar, an acid
fruit juice such as naranjilla or lemon and aguardiente (fire water). A steaming glass of canelazo is
very much appreciated in chilly Andean nights (para. 4). A canelazo is poured into a short, thick
glass then refilled throughout the fiesta to keep an Ecuadorian warm!

Ralph and Jack in Lord Of The Flies Essay
William Golding s Lord of the Flies is a novel about a group of boys who are lost on a deserted
island and must do what they can to survive. At the beginning of the novel, two of the boys, Ralph
and Jack, become leaders. These differences will form the main conflict in the story. The differences
will cause them to hate each other and the anger that results is a recurring part of the plot
throughout the novel. These two boys can be compared by the way they change, the reason for
their actions, and the way they use or abuse power. Both of the boys change a lot during their stay

Jack ordered that the boys put their head of the dead pig on a stick, but the boys follow him out
of fear. Essentially, Ralph changes from leader to fugitive and Jack changes from choirboy to
savage and leader. Jack and Ralph were motivated for their actions in different ways. Ralph was
motivated strictly by the hope of being rescued. Even though he called meetings and tried to
organize the group of boys to do simple things like build huts or keep the fire going so they
could be rescued or survive, the boys would go play or bathe. Ralph said to Jack В‘ And they
keep running off, you remember the meeting? How everyone was going to work hard until the
shelters were finished? (51) The only person who would listen or work with Ralph was Simon.
Unfortunately, the other boys continued to ignore Ralph s leadership throughout the novel and
eventually all turned to Jack for leadership. Jack was motivated by hunting and killing. His
obsession for this began when he was frustrated with himself for not killing the pig in the first
chapter: В‘ He snatched his knife out of the sheath and slammed it into a tree trunk. Next time
there would be no mercy (29).There would actually be no mercy from Jack from that point on.
Eventually all of the boys, except for Ralph and Piggy, turned to Jack s evil ways, even to the point
of participating in the killing of Simon. Effectively, Ralph was motivated by the hope

business. Teams started as social technical business experiments and have since vaulted their way
into the American business environment. Led by Deming s Total Quality Management movement

organizations today. Throughout my work experience and my university based education the

the idea of using and developing work teams. I sometimes feel that universities feel that the idea

Quite often these classes even incorporate the use of team based assignments. This would be
demonstrated by every graduate school class for which I have taken at Roosevelt University, in
its Master s in Human Resource Management program. Each class has included at least one team
project. In fact it seems that all of my classes used a group project as the final project in all of
these classes. In fact every class covered the need for developing teams in the workplace. From
my personal experience at Roosevelt University, I found that about three out of approximately 5
members of a team did most of the work. Often several team members would ride the coat tails of
the other members. In an academic situation, one major problem with development of teams is that
some people are motivated by learning and by grades while others just want a degree and don t

1. Using what you learned about yourself from the inventory, do you think you have high self

I learned from the inventory that I have high self esteem. I have high self esteem because I am
confident in my capabilities in school. I did not always have high self esteem I was discouraged
when I got a bad test score and my friend would say that she got a higher score than I did and rub
it in my face. It made me feel bad about myself and I thought I was not as smart as she was. Then
I realized just because I got a lower score than she did it did not mean that I was not smart it just
meant I was smart in a different way then she was. Some ways I can build my self esteem is don
t beat myself up over a mistake just learn from it and carry on, another one would be not to
compare myself to other people and point out my flaws. We are human so mistakes are gonna

Set in 16th century Venice, Othello, by William Shakespeare, explores the idea of an outsider
from the very beginning of the play. Shakespeare uses Othello, a black army general, to explore the
relationship of an outsider in high Venetian society using a variety of approaches. The reader sees
characters consistently referring to Othelloin derogatory and demeaning terms, as well as frequent
implications that Othello is scarcely human. Further exploration of an outsider in society comes

implication appears again that he belongs to a very different race to which he lives among.
The relationship of an outsider to society is also explored through Othello himself, as he recognises
the differences between him and those around him. While describing his and Desdemona s love,
Othello tells (about himself): Rude am I in speech/ And little blessed with the soft phrase of
peace. In these words, Othello is able convey that he is a little awkward in speech, and not a

Siddhartha And Buddha Comparison Essay

Parallels between Siddhartha and Buddha
Most readers often get confused with the book Siddhartha, as most initially presume the book after
reading for a little bit, that the main character is Buddha. However, this is not the case; the main
character, Siddhartha, shares the same name as the original Buddha, an element Herman Hesse
included to help the readers make the initial connection between the two characters in the book,
though it may get confusing. Though, the two characters only share a name at this point, there
are many more parallelisms between their lives and personalities. Both Siddhartha and Buddha
had motivation to leave their homes at an early age. Buddha s early life was filled with opulence
so that he, as a boy, would be distracted and unaware of the miseries and suffering of the world (A

Analysis Of The Other Side Of The Sky By Farah Ahmedi
Farah Ahmedi was a girl who was desperate to escape her war torn country of Afghanistan by

Matthew Chapter 5
The Gospels of Matthew and Luke
Matthew chapter five is a sermon by Jesus. It tells us what perspective we ought to have in
dealings with each other and with our attitude. Those who are weak shall be strong, and those who
mourn shall be comforted tell of positive actions or humility being rewarded. Jesus goes through a
list of these, exalting the poor and the weak. Mt. 5:17 20 is between the first section of what
actions are righteous and before the section of what seem to be his own version of commandments
relative to the law. It says that all shall be done and judged through and by him. So he gave a
perspective on the humble and then judged the law. He tells people to be righteous and then tells

He had great authority, and he was supremely obedient. He had power, but was humble and
served to glorify God with that power. He was depicted as one who s every action was oriented
towards doing the will of God. It is a standard that Matthew gives to nobody else.
First of all, Matthew was a Jew who was convinced that the messiah had come. Many of his
writings were Jewish, for that reason. However, he took issue with Jewish leadership and the
blinding methods they used. He used this perspective and wrote anti Jewish versus. Matthew
respected and looked positively upon Jewish Law and much of the Oral Torah. He did not like
what was going on in Yavneh, though. The way the rabbis there were defining these laws was
not consistent with how he saw the law. He saw the Pharisees as hypocrites who did not have his
perspective on what was going on in the world. For this reason, he rejected the emerging authority
of the rabbis at Yavneh. He was also afraid of those who claimed his own heritage but were leading
the Jewish people blindly. The purpose of Matthew s gospelwas to, tell the story of how the
coming of the Messiah has inaugurated a new phase in the history of God s people and to
explain how they were expected to live in that new age. (Barr) Luke saw the death of Jesus as

Death Penalty I began my research by looking into the death penalty or also known as capital

Life in Prison
I continue my research on the effects of life in prison opposed to the death penalty. Life
imprisonment is any sentence for serious crimes that insures the offender spends life
equivalency in prison or at least until parole. In a lot of cases when an offender is sentenced to
life in prison they don t get the advantage of parole. No one ever sentenced to life without parole
has ever been released, they spend the rest of their lives in prison and they usually die of natural
causes (Wilbur, 2012). The advantages of life imprisonment are few but worth looking over, for
example it saves an abundant amount of money. It costs tax payers $90,000 more per prisoner
each year for inmates on death row then they pay for the general prison population. Also it saves
many innocent lives of those who were wrongly accused. More than 200 innocent men and women
have been freed from prison in California after it was discovered that they were wrongfully
convicted; three of them were sentenced to die for crimes they did not commit ( The Truth, n.d.).
The disadvantages of spending life in prison are serious and dangerous. Prisons all over the
country are becoming very overpopulated, causing less aid for each inmate. Inmates sentenced to
death in prison receive less access to programs and no special treatment unlike other prisoners ( The
Truth, n.d.). Prison aren t pleasant, someone convicted

Single Camera Conventions
A single camera production is the use one single camera to film all of the diverse shots. An
advantage of single camera production is the flexibility with shots due to other cameras not being in
the frame and also the low budget. On the other hand, single camera production comes with
disadvantages such as being time consuming and difficult to consistently reposition; furthermore if
the camerais damaged all work may be lost. Within this essay, I will be discussing the elements in
which make up a single camera production along with indicating an understanding of the codes and
conventions that relate to this area of media.
Single camera productions can use certain narrative structures such as linear, where the narrative

In Films And Television, There Are Many Different Ways
In films and television, there are many different ways the filmmakers choose to create their films
to be hegemonic or counter hegemonic. For an example, the movie The Blind Side is created to
remove stereotypes focused around race and economic class. In many movies and television shows,
writers challenge stereotypes and use counter hegemony to remove stereotypes around social
groups like raceand economic class.
There are many articles that talk about race and social class in movies. One article is, How The
Blind Side Blinds Us: Post racism and the American Dream by Jeffery Bineham. This article
mentions how the movie fights against racism. The author of this article explains how this film
uses counter hegemony to display public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the movie The Blind Side there are many different ways that the film writers challenge
hegemonic beliefs. For example, one of the main characters in the movie is an upper class
southern white woman. The women adopted a low class large black man, which represents the
removal of stereotypes around upper class southerners being racists towards blacks. The women s
friends challenged her with stereotypes comments. The friends comment saying that she should not
be taking in any black men into her house. They say he is going to steal her belongs to sell them
because he is a poor black man, which reinforces the stereotypes around poor black men. There are
racial and economic class stereotypes in the south because of the southern history of slavery. The
woman removes the stereotypes with her acts in the movie, which shows how the movie represents
counter hegemony.
The Blind Side represents counter hegemony in many different ways. Following the example
previously stated the filmmakers remove the stereotype of black people are only good at sports . In
the movie, the high class, white women adopted the low class black man. The man was
recruited to play football by the high school coach, and then by colleges. He was a large black
male, which fits the stereotype of black football players. The movie shows the stereotype
representing that he is only good at football and not academics. His grades were very low, and he
was told he wouldn t get into college. He proved this

Why Did The Great Chicago Fire Occurred In 1871
The Great Chicago Fire occurred in 1871. The first spark of the fire began in a nearby family
barn. Uncontrolled, the blaze lasted a few days, burning a large part of the city. After the fire was
put out, Chicago saw a period of rapid growth and development. The Great Fire was a devastating
event in Chicagos history, but in the end helped turn the cityinto a major US city.
The Great Chicago Fire was a tragic event to happen in the city s history. While the cause of this
major fire is unknown, Chicago s wood buildings and dry summer made the fire much worse.
There are a few theories to how this fire started, but what is known for sure is that it started in
the O Leary s barn. This particular fire lasted two days and spread quickly. Firefighters were
contacted, but were sent to the wrong place, causing chaos and delays as they tried to find the
fire. By the time firefighters got there, the fire was spreading from house to house, already
unmanageable. Before they knew it the fire had taken over the city. Within two days, the water
tank in the city had run out of water. Luckily before the fire moved further, on October 10 1871, it
was put out by nature s rain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fire destroyed about 3.5 miles of Chicago. Thousands of buildings were burned to the
ground, homes were destroyed, and even the fire proof building collapsed due to the destructive
fire. The fire caused 200 million dollars in damage in just two days. It was shocking for residents to
come back and see their beloved city destroyed. By the end of the fire, 300 people had died and
about 100 thousand people were left homeless and jobless. This was a devastating time to be in

The Election Of Andrew Jackson
With the election of Andrew Jackson, for the first time in American history, a common man built
his way up to earn the title of President of the United States. Jackson being of low birth had
particular significance because he went from rags to riches. During his presidency his affinity for
the common people did not change, thus Jackson tended to favor the rights of the common people
over what was constitutionally correct. Andrew Jacksonfrom such actions can be called the father
of American democracy because he set the precedent that later presidents followed: where he
campaigned and reached out to the people and set the notion that presidential policies ruled over
Congress because the president was elected by the people. Although, most would argue against
Jackson and his beliefs as president, it is evident that he always put the common people before
himself as can be seen in his presidential runs, the spoils system, the vetoing of the second
National Bank and the Indian Removal Act. The election process prior to 1824 focused more on
the Legislature over the people. It wasn t until 1824, when Jackson ran for president, that the
people had more of a say. In Methods of Electing Presidential Electors: 1816 to 1836 (Doc. 1), it
is to be noted that voting power is the same between the people and the legislature, however
Andrew Jackson s loss was the direct result of the Corrupt Bargain for which Jackson suspected
Henry Clay did. This was the event in which Clay became

Analysis Of Human Interest By Carol Ann Duffy
German Canadian Eckhart Tolle once said, Where there is anger there is always pain underneath.
Such a statement is hardly profound, but perhaps it is the key to understanding the narrator s
motivation behind killing his loved one in Carol Ann Duffy s Human Interest. In the poem, an
unnamed narrator speaks to the reader from his prison cell, where he is carrying a fifteen year
minimum sentence at for killing his cheating girlfriend. Throughout the short four stanzapoem, he
takes us the reader through the how and the why behind the crime, but the most compelling part
of Human Interest lies in its conclusion, where the narrator completely abandons all indications
of anger to reveal raw grief, pain, and perhaps regret: When I think about her now, I near choke
with / with grief (Duffy 12 13). From a superficial standpoint, the first characteristic about Duffy s
writing is its rigid structure. Like the cells in the prison the narrator writes from, Human Interest is
strictly segregated into near perfect rectangular blocks. The 14 line poem is a sonnet, split up into
four stanzas that alternate between containing three and four lines each; most of the lines contain
exactly ten syllables, another traditional characteristic of the sonnet. The only exceptions to this
rule occur at lines 9 and 14; in line 9 the author laments that how his lover tore him apart, and in
line 14 (which will be examined in more detail shortly) he expresses regret by stating he wouldn t
harm a

The Declaration Of Independence And The Suffrage Movement
The Declaration of Independence was written upon the 3 pillars of life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness. To those around the world, United States of America was known as the land of the free.
Though the history of America reflects a lifetime of oppression and what the true idea of freedom
was. The Declaration of Independence was established to underline the unalienable rights of all U.S.
Citizens. These rights were written down on paper but not granted to everyone. Some women felt
excluded from the aspects of this document. Women were fighting for their freedom from their own
country. Elizabeth Stanton wrote, The Declaration of Sentiments in 1848 during the same time the
Suffrage Movement came into effect. The Suffrage Movement took... Show more content on

The problem states that women of the 19th century believed they were not free because they did
not have the right to vote. This right to vote was the gateway to women s freedom if men
allowed it to pass through. Stanton believed freedom to be the equality among all genders. The
Suffrage Movement brought about the First Women s Convention to discuss the issue of women s
rights. The First Women s Convention led to the continuation of more conventions as a way to get
a woman s perspective to be heard. Example 2: Women critiquing men and patriarchy through
women s lack of money and privacy. Women s writings were out of anger and insecurity. Lays out
betterment for society, the change in human nature Virginia Woolf in A Room of One s Own uses
the symbolism of a room to express solitude and leisure time. Women were excluded from
education and the unequal distribution of wealth. Through this idea, women lack the essential
necessities to produce their own creativity. Women wrote out of their own anger and insecurity.
Men wrote intellectual passages that were highly praised because a woman could never live up to
a man s expectations in literature due to lack of education. Using the example of Judith,
Shakespeare s imaginary sister, Woolf depicts this character as how society discriminated against
women. Judith, a woman, was just as talented as her brother, William Shakespeare, though had to

Several thrips species are known to feed on soybean (Glycine max
Merr.) and can cause yield reduction. Beside, the other important reason for thrips survey is to
determine its role as vectors of
Tospovirus in soybean. There is little information available about thrips species present on soybean
crop, and their abundance in Egypt.
Field survey took place at the farm of Agricultural Experiment
Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, Giza Governorate,
Egypt (season 2014) to survey the different thrips species. Soybean cv.
Giza 111 was sown in late May. The experimental area received all the usual agricultural practices
except for any pest control measures.
Thrips species associated with soybean were collected and differentiated to species. A total of 16
different thrips species was surveyed. These included 14 phytophagous and 2 predator thrips
species. The most abundant

The Ethical Issues Of Business
Introduction: In this essay, I will discuss three sections of business among many which hold
ethical issues. Those sections are advertising, product liability, and leadership ethics. Within the
three sections, I will identify and briefly discuss three specific ethical issues. I will then choose
one ethical issue and go into the detail about how ABC Widgets Inc. will implement a policy on
how to avoid the ethical issue. Advertising: Advertising has many ethical issues; however, I will
focus on integrity, bribery, and manipulation. Integrity is a question of motives. It questions the
purpose behind what is being advertised and the character of the company/person who is
supporting it. You need your audience s trust if you want them to buy your products; there has to
be a relationship. However, it is not integrity alone but integrity intertwined with persuasion and
character. An example of this is the famous Jack Bennett case of 1997. Jack pulled in many
individuals as well as businesses with his persuasion and enticed them to join the cause to help
others. However, his audience misjudged his character. Jack Bennett s company, New Era
Philanthropy, promised to match donations with money from anonymous donors when he simply
did not have anonymous donors. He did this to help charities yet he lied to his faithful and
inspired customers. Lack of integrity is a big issue in advertising. Winston Churchill used the skill
of woo, which is to win others over. This skill is the same

The Landlady By Roald Dahl
The theme in the short story, The Landlady , by Roald Dahl is that naive people who judge
outward appearances should avoid trusting deceptive strangers because this can result in death.
The first example is when Billy first enters the Bed and breakfast and puts his stuff down. There
were no hats and coats in the hall, there were no umbrellas, no walking sticks nothing (Dahl 26).
This means that the place is empty because it is bad. This shows that Billy is naive and lacks
wisdom. Furthermore, when talking with the landlady she says that Temple and Mulholland are
still on the 4th floor together. But my dear boy, he never left. He s still here. Mr.Temple is also
here. They re on the fourth floor, both of them together ( Dahl 32). These are signs of danger
because usually, someone who hears that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More importantly, when Billy and the landlady first meet each other, the landlady portrays
herself as a good person. She was forty five or fifty years old, and the moment she saw him, she
gave him a warm, welcoming smile (Dahl 24). This presents that the landlady is purposely
misleading Billy to think that she is a good person when she is really not. This relates to the theme
because the landlady is tricking Billy to thinking she is a good person so that he would stay. In the
short story, there is a lot of figurative language. In fact, the author Roald Dahl uses foreshadowing
to create suspense. For example, the tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds (Dahl 34). This quote
shows foreshadowing because it gives the reader an idea of what the tea might contain in it,
which was poison. In addition, the author uses imagery to give the reader an idea of how the
character looks like. For instance, the back was hard and cold, and when he pushed the hair to one
side with his fingers, he could see the skin underneath, grayish black and dry and perfectly
preserved (Dahl

knights had nice clothes and were treated with respect they even dined with the king if they did

always disrespectful towards the king. While if the peasants did something to disrespect the king
they would be in a lot of trouble. The knights were never nice to the peasants they would be very

New York City is just like every other major city in the United States. New York City crime rate

Direct Leadership Vs Organizational Leadership Essay
Direct Leadership versus Organizational Leadership Independent of the Army and country you
serve, leadership is always an important subject. There are many civilian books and military

Leadership. In this paper, the focus will be only about the first two levels. According with you

As a child she is adventurous, wild hearted, and Dad s favorite. Jeannette, a middle sibling, is closer to younger brother Brian than her older sister Lori: Brian shares Jeannette s love of the outdoors, while Lori is more a bookworm. As Jeannette matures, her feelings toward Dad and Mom change. She resents Dad s drinking and how he constantly lets her and the rest of the familydown yet never openly admits it or allows his flaws to be discussed. Jeannette also resents Mom s refusal to hold down a job long enough to provide her kids with a stable food supply. These resentments make her more and more willful and independent. • 3. Anotated Bibliography Annotated Bibliography Working Thesis: Organ Donors should be able to have the right to choose if their organs after death will be donated to another without any complications even if they die of brain death or euthanasia, inside or outside a medical facility, as well as laws should be put in place or an alternative method stating that their wishes no matter what the family thinks, due to ethical or moral issues, should be honored. Organs are going to waste every year because not enough people are donating their organs. Many people choose to donate but their family members decide not to let them donate after they pass away due to the situation they are in. Different cultures agree that organ transplantation is a good act of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This article is different from the others because it gives the families perspective behind transplantation. The article is credible because there is a lot of legal information in it as well as many legal terms. 3. Bresnahan, M., amp; Mahler, K. (2010). Ethical debate over organ donation in the context of brain death. Bioethics, 24(2), 54 60. 21 February 2013. Retrieved from www.ebscohost.com Summary: the main purpose of this article is to inform people of the ethical issues in different religions and how they are not very different among them. Ethical issues come into play when they are taking organs from people who die due to brain death and are still in a vegetative state. We don t actually know if they are dead in that situation. This article provides ethical issues related to why so many different cultures won t donate the organs when their loved ones are on life support because of brain death. Evaluation: this article can be useful because it provides me with a more balanced argument. I can give the points of ethics where they do want to donate but also when they refuse to donate. This is different from other articles because it shows the opposite side of the argument. This article seems credible but at first it did not when Google was mentioned. The article was actually stating Google to point out that Google isn t a reliable source. This article gives relative facts of ethics and uses many different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The White Heron Character Analysis The short story, The White Heron , written by Sarah Jewett, gave me a moral that many people need to remember for their entire lives. The moral that I personally received from the story was that life isn t just about money. It s so much more than just what life can buy. The main character, a young girl, Sylvia, taught us this lesson by sacrificing plenty of money, enough to support her and her grandmother, to instead assist a creature of the world. Personally, I liked this story because it sounds like something I might do. I would definitely give up any reward somebody offered to save a creature that deserved its life. I don t need the money badly enough to allow another creature be killed for me to receive what I really wouldn t deserve.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of my favorite quotes is when she is informing us about the swaying trees that Sylvia is climbing. The tree seemed to lengthen itself out as she went up, and to reach farther and farther upward. Another time, the author is describing Sylvia and how lonely she is and says, ...as if she had never been alive before coming to the farm... Also, when she described the hunter. She didn t dare look too boldly at the tall young man, who carried a gun over his shoulder... Some of the dialogue is interesting as well. Such as when Sylvia is calling for the cow, she says: Co ... Piggy and Ralph found the conch at the beach and they use it to bring all the boys together after the plane crash. The conch symbolizes order and rules because of the meaning the boys give it, the conch is just a random shell but they value it which makes it important. The conch is extremely important to Piggy because it makes him feel like they ll have rules!..Lots of rules and when anyone breaks em wacco! (Golding 33). A Prayer for Owen Meany Essay A Prayer for Owen Meany Not the least of my problems is that I can hardly even imagine what kind of an experience a genuine, self authenticating religious experience would be. Without somehow destroying me in the process, how could God reveal himself in a way that would leave no room for doubt? If there were no room for doubt, there would be no room for me. Frederick Buechner In the novel, A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving, Owen Meany s belief of predestination makes a significant impact on John Wheelwright s emotional stability as an adult. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As John grew older, he became hurt and obsessed with the whole notion. He always thought of what ifs and if only to assuage his evident wrath for the loss of his mother. John s troubled soul was fueled by hatred towards Owen s control for his destiny, the kind of control that John never has in his own life. The events leading up to the Vietnam War and beyond were out of his authority, however, as destiny has it; it is inescapably going to happen. The war itself indirectly took the life of John s best friend and John always felt helpless and responsible thinking that somehow he should have taken some kind of control in order to change occurrences. Due to Owen Meany s belief that he is an instrument of God and that God has set a task for him to complete, Owen does his best to fulfill each part of his destiny. John does not understand why Owen bothered, John himself having so little faith and acceptance in destiny and fate. Owen has control over which path in life he should take, he could follow God s orders, or he could ignore his calling and not do as his fate would have to save the little Vietnamese children. John s feeling of helplessness in the fate that has befallen Owen makes him feel responsible and angry because he thinks he could have tried to persuade Owen to avoid his destiny. Moreover, John is angry by Owen s faith in God and his acceptance of his destiny by living his life accordingly rather than avoiding it, the control that John never ... • 12. Luther s Father Stand Alone Summary To provide an overview of what the Allotment Policy was, it was also known as the Dawes Act. As mentioned within class discussions, it was named after Senator Henry Dawes. This policy allowed Indian people to receive a portion of land. Indian tribal land would be divided into small sections or allotments. These would be for Indian families or individuals. When it comes to how many acres will be provided, it all depends on who it is. The amount of land granted to each family is 160 acres. On the other hand, 80 acres will be given per individual. Orphans who are under 18 years of age, can only receive half of the land an individual would get. In that case, they receive 40 acres. Once the allotment was processed and completed, meaning people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some tribes may include the Cherokee and Hopi. According to our class lectures, there was an outrage due to the allotments. The Cherokee who are from Oklahoma, expressed their thoughts in front of Congress. Due to the strategy used when it came to the Allotment Policy, the land was difficult to farm on. In class we had discussed how the profits of all the corn produced would only make a slight dent within debt. As a result of bad crops growing, the debt started to accumulate. It was thought that the entire system was rigged. The allotments became a checkerboard. The meaning behind the term checkerboard, is that Indian families or individuals were becoming surrounded by White settlers who claimed open land. The goal of the checkerboard was to break up the Native American communities. Not to forget, the Hopi had petitioned that they needed more land due to infertility of the soil. • 13. Ethical Issues In America Many Americans have the luxury of purchasing new electronics almost every year. Something that is ignored, since it has become so natural, is exactly how their little devices had come to their lives and what happens when it is thrown away. In a more perfect world, the production of electronics would that of an ethical process, but it is unfortunately not that case. It all starts with the harvesting of raw materials. When bringing up the idea of a 100 percent ethically sourced smartphone, Caroline Winter quotes from researcher for the company Fairphone, That would be nearly impossible, says Bibi Bleekemolen, a researcher for the company (Winter). While many Chinese men, women, and children are working for little pay every day to scrap electronic waste, they are exposed to toxic elements known to cause cancer. • 14. Speed Limits Of The Transport Industry Speed limit in the transport industry is not a new phenomenon, and they are laws and by laws that limit the speed of vehicles at a specific stretch of roads. Majority of countries around the world have speed limits on all roads or on specific roads. Moreover, majority of the speed limit rules apply in populous areas such as urban centers and residential areas. Other speed limits might also apply in some regions with higher population of animals along the roads. Road signs are used to indicate speed limits. In some cases, the speed limit law or by laws is not strict (Lund, 2007). There are many reasons why speed limits can be necessary in Halifax region, and there are many reasons why it makes sense to implement speed limits is because they have worked in other cities and nations. Otherwise, the most important impact is the significant reduction in road accident as a result of speed limits. Speed limits have existed since the steam engine error in the 19th century where the United Kingdom set the maximum speed at 10 kilometers per hour. However, it is important to note that the reasoning behind the speed limit could have been different from the modern speed limits reasoning. In the 19th century, technology advancement in the transport industry was at infant stages, therefore, the lawmaker could not image a huge machine traveling at a relatively high speed. This means that a speed of 10 kilometer per hour could be a low speed when modern technology is considered, but could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He led Cuba as Prime Minister and, subsequently, as President for almost fifty years. He was born and raised upper middle class as his father was a very successful farmer and did quite well for himself and his family. There were several key events that led to Castro s rise as a powerful leader and shaped him into the man who successfully led the Cuban revolution. Between December 31, 1958 and January 2, 1959, Castro s group of eighty two soldiers defeated Batista s army and forced him into exile. Castro s personal leadership philosophy was based on Marxism. He stated the following : Marxism taught me what society was. I was like a blindfolded man in a forest, who doesn t even know where north or south is. If you don t eventually come to truly understand the history of the class struggle, or at least have a clear idea that society is divided between the rich and the poor, and that some people subjugate and exploit other people, you re lost in a forest, not knowing anything. He truly believed that a revolution led by the working class was the only way to bring about true political change so he went about infiltrating the working class society and was exposed to Havana s poorest neighbourhoods and racial and class discrimination that only fueled his fire in the pursuit of equality. As Prime Minister, Castro s regime was highly popular amongst the working class and students. • 16. Analysis Of The Joy Of Secrecy I The Joy of Secrecy Dear reader, I ask you to accompany me on a journey through the mind of a great creator. Not the Great Creator, mind you, but only one, and that one is myself. Many would consider me to be a rash man, one of immense skill but little actual talent, one who believes more intensely than rational thought may permit. And in that sense, they consider me to be a dreamer. But what a perfect profession I have found! It is the most acceptable profession for a dreamer to have, in my honest opinion, for what other type of work allows one to make his dreams a reality? Truly, animation is the one true profession for dreamers, the most accepting line of work for such strong and skilled personalities. I, myself, find that life is merely a composition of brush strokes and feathered lines sketched by a hand careless in its execution. A hand that may erect and raze as it wishes, or, in such cases as my own, as it is commanded by an even higher power than that which wills life from vacuous space. Among my company my associates, if you will, or if you will not, my coworkers I alone dare to dream of the unreality of life, dare to reject the hand that abides by no mortal law or rule of happiness. My lines do more than animate ink and paper in a sort of strange necromancy. From my own hand I bestow life upon flat bodies, make them twist and turn and sing the body electric . Gone was the hourglass figure of the 19th Century, swept away by the World War I, and replaced by the figure of a modern, independent woman. This book covers fashions from 1920 to 1924, an often overlooked period of fashion which was a time of transition between the draped and layered fashions of the post World War I era and the free and easy gowns of the jazz age flapper . Before the Roaring Twenties, women were still wearing floor length dresses with corsets, and crinolines, arms and legs were covered, hair was long. This Gibson girl look was set the standard for beauty, fashion and manner. And the Victorian attitudes toward dress and etiquette created a strict moral climate. Until 1920s things changed quickly, the women was given the right to vote, they began to attend college. The Equal Rights Amendment was proposed in 1923. The World War I was over and men wanted their jobs back. Women, though, who had taken up men s jobs while they were at war, had proved themselves worthy of men s jobs, so many organizations and feminist reformers took up the task to encourage gender equality. Shakespeare uses Othello, a black army general, to explore the relationship of an outsider in high Venetian society using a variety of approaches. The reader sees characters consistently referring to Othelloin derogatory and demeaning terms, as well as frequent implications that Othello is scarcely human. Further exploration of an outsider in society comes from Othello himself, as he outlines a few of the major differences that set him and the community apart. Another suggestion that Othello is not a normal being comes when Brabantio accuses him of bewitching his daughter: (to Othello) That thou hast practised on her with foul charms/ Abused her delicate youth with drugs and minerals. The relationship of an outsider to society is also explored through Othello himself, as he recognises the differences between him and those around him. While describing his and Desdemona s love, Othello tells (about himself): Rude am I in speech/ And little blessed with the soft phrase of peace. In these words, Othello is able convey that he is a little awkward in speech, and not a smooth talker, with the unspoken understanding that others in the room are. • 37. Siddhartha And Buddha Comparison Essay Neil Patel Period 2 Oct. 4, 2014 Parallels between Siddhartha and Buddha Most readers often get confused with the book Siddhartha, as most initially presume the book after reading for a little bit, that the main character is Buddha. However, this is not the case; the main character, Siddhartha, shares the same name as the original Buddha, an element Herman Hesse included to help the readers make the initial connection between the two characters in the book, though it may get confusing. Though, the two characters only share a name at this point, there are many more parallelisms between their lives and personalities. Both Siddhartha and Buddha had motivation to leave their homes at an early age. Buddha s early life was filled with opulence so that he, as a boy, would be distracted and unaware of the miseries and suffering of the world (A E Television Networks, Buddha). However, all three wanted to help, whether it was them self or others. Farah Ahmedi was a woman who wanted to cross the border into Pakistan from Afghanistan. The story The Other Side of The Sky, elaborates on this statement by describing Farah Ahmedi s life, the author states, Their only hope was to escape to Pakistan (para. 3). After the very difficult and treacherous journey to cross the border through the mountains on the border, and four years in Pakistan, Farah and her mother were finally chosen to come to America. Those who are weak shall be strong, and those who mourn shall be comforted tell of positive actions or humility being rewarded. Jesus goes through a list of these, exalting the poor and the weak. Mt. 5:17 20 is between the first section of what actions are righteous and before the section of what seem to be his own version of commandments relative to the law. It is a standard that Matthew gives to nobody else. First of all, Matthew was a Jew who was convinced that the messiah had come. Many of his writings were Jewish, for that reason. However, he took issue with Jewish leadership and the blinding methods they used. He used this perspective and wrote anti Jewish versus. Matthew respected and looked positively upon Jewish Law and much of the Oral Torah. He did not like what was going on in Yavneh, though. The way the rabbis there were defining these laws was not consistent with how he saw the law. He saw the Pharisees as hypocrites who did not have his perspective on what was going on in the world. For this reason, he rejected the emerging authority of the rabbis at Yavneh. He was also afraid of those who claimed his own heritage but were leading the Jewish people blindly. The purpose of Matthew s gospelwas to, tell the story of how the coming of the Messiah has inaugurated a new phase in the history of God s people and to explain how they were expected to live in that new age. Life imprisonment is any sentence for serious crimes that insures the offender spends life equivalency in prison or at least until parole. In a lot of cases when an offender is sentenced to life in prison they don t get the advantage of parole. No one ever sentenced to life without parole has ever been released, they spend the rest of their lives in prison and they usually die of natural causes (Wilbur, 2012). The advantages of life imprisonment are few but worth looking over, for example it saves an abundant amount of money. It costs tax payers $90,000 more per prisoner each year for inmates on death row then they pay for the general prison population. Also it saves many innocent lives of those who were wrongly accused. More than 200 innocent men and women have been freed from prison in California after it was discovered that they were wrongfully convicted; three of them were sentenced to die for crimes they did not commit ( The Truth, n.d.). The disadvantages of spending life in prison are serious and dangerous. Prisons all over the country are becoming very overpopulated, causing less aid for each inmate. • 46. The Election Of Andrew Jackson With the election of Andrew Jackson, for the first time in American history, a common man built his way up to earn the title of President of the United States. Jackson being of low birth had particular significance because he went from rags to riches. During his presidency his affinity for the common people did not change, thus Jackson tended to favor the rights of the common people over what was constitutionally correct. Andrew Jacksonfrom such actions can be called the father of American democracy because he set the precedent that later presidents followed: where he campaigned and reached out to the people and set the notion that presidential policies ruled over Congress because the president was elected by the people. Although, most would argue against Jackson and his beliefs as president, it is evident that he always put the common people before himself as can be seen in his presidential runs, the spoils system, the vetoing of the second National Bank and the Indian Removal Act. The election process prior to 1824 focused more on the Legislature over the people. It wasn t until 1824, when Jackson ran for president, that the people had more of a say. In Methods of Electing Presidential Electors: 1816 to 1836 (Doc. 1), it is to be noted that voting power is the same between the people and the legislature, however Andrew Jackson s loss was the direct result of the Corrupt Bargain for which Jackson suspected Henry Clay did. • 47. Analysis Of Human Interest By Carol Ann Duffy German Canadian Eckhart Tolle once said, Where there is anger there is always pain underneath. Such a statement is hardly profound, but perhaps it is the key to understanding the narrator s motivation behind killing his loved one in Carol Ann Duffy s Human Interest. In the poem, an unnamed narrator speaks to the reader from his prison cell, where he is carrying a fifteen year minimum sentence at for killing his cheating girlfriend. Throughout the short four stanzapoem, he takes us the reader through the how and the why behind the crime, but the most compelling part of Human Interest lies in its conclusion, where the narrator completely abandons all indications of anger to reveal raw grief, pain, and perhaps regret: When I think about her now, I near choke with / with grief (Duffy 12 13). From a superficial standpoint, the first characteristic about Duffy s writing is its rigid structure. Like the cells in the prison the narrator writes from, Human Interest is strictly segregated into near perfect rectangular blocks. The 14 line poem is a sonnet, split up into four stanzas that alternate between containing three and four lines each; most of the lines contain exactly ten syllables, another traditional characteristic of the sonnet. The only exceptions to this rule occur at lines 9 and 14; in line 9 the author laments that how his lover tore him apart, and in line 14 (which will be examined in more detail shortly) he expresses regret by stating he wouldn t harm a ... Those sections are advertising, product liability, and leadership ethics. Within the three sections, I will identify and briefly discuss three specific ethical issues. I will then choose one ethical issue and go into the detail about how ABC Widgets Inc. will implement a policy on how to avoid the ethical issue. Advertising: Advertising has many ethical issues; however, I will focus on integrity, bribery, and manipulation. Integrity is a question of motives. It questions the purpose behind what is being advertised and the character of the company/person who is supporting it. You need your audience s trust if you want them to buy your products; there has to be a relationship. However, it is not integrity alone but integrity intertwined with persuasion and character. An example of this is the famous Jack Bennett case of 1997. Jack pulled in many individuals as well as businesses with his persuasion and enticed them to join the cause to help others. However, his audience misjudged his character. Jack Bennett s company, New Era Philanthropy, promised to match donations with money from anonymous donors when he simply did not have anonymous donors. This relates to the theme because the landlady is tricking Billy to thinking she is a good person so that he would stay. In the short story, there is a lot of figurative language. In fact, the author Roald Dahl uses foreshadowing to create suspense. For example, the tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds (Dahl 34). This quote shows foreshadowing because it gives the reader an idea of what the tea might contain in it, which was poison. In addition, the author uses imagery to give the reader an idea of how the character looks like.
