Analysis Of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas
They say that ignorance is bliss. That is somewhat true, as not understanding the atrocities in our
world would surely make a happier person. However, innocence can also lead to calamity. The
Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, is a coming of age story about Bruno, the son of a
Nazi Commandant under Adolf Hitler. Bruno was initially very ignorant of what was happening in
the world and was very immature about moving from Berlin. As the days went by, he got used to
his new home and his thoughts were maturing, as he started thinking with logic and rationale.
Bruno finally understands that he has to be a good person to everyone regardless what others
might think. His character has strongly developed. Despite Bruno being unaware of his situation
and his father being a Nazi, he matures from being childish and unsatisfied for moving to finally
finding purpose in life by being a good human being.
Bruno, initially, has ignorance about everything going on in his life. For example, his dissatisfaction
with leaving Berlin is demonstrated in many parts of the story. He is shown to the reader as being
innocent, immature, and unable to give things a chance. On many occasions, Bruno complains
about moving to Out With (Auschwitz). He continually complains before even giving himself a
chance to experience it. He was whining and being stubborn. To illustrate, in the novel, the author
says, Nothing, thought Bruno, not even the insects, would ever choose to stay at Out With.

Prescribing Drugs And Its Effects On Children
Last year, I wrote about a scary trend in which doctors are prescribing powerful ADHD
medications to minors, whether they meet the ADHD diagnostic criteria or not. In that article, I
noted that more than 70 percent of the children receiving ADHD medications in my home state,
Oklahoma, do not meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD, according to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. Why, then, are so many young people being medicated with these drugs?
As I noted in the above piece, some doctors are prescribing ADHD drugs to kids simply to help
them get better grades in school. These study drugs, common for years among the college set, are
now being demanded by parents who want their kids to get top scores, even at the elementary
school level. But what are the risks? Well, besides the many well known side effects, including
stunted growth, sleep problems, personality changes, suicidal thoughts, heart attacks and strokes,
doctors have now added priapism and the possibility of permanent erectile dysfunctionto the list.
ADHD drugs and priapism According to this press release from the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration, many ADHD drugs, including those containing methylphenidate products,
atomoxetine, and even those containing amphetamine products have been reportedly linked to
cases of priapism. What is priapism? That is a painful erection that will not go away on its own and
requires emergency medical treatment. Left untreated, priapism can lead to permanent damage to

A Reflective Educator And My Pedagogical Agenda
My research during this course has allowed me to become a more reflective educator and to
determine my pedagogical agenda. While studying James A. Bank s Stages of Ethnicity and
Gloria Ladson Billings Theory of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, I connect with NBPTS
Proposition 4.B, and discovered a truer, honest picture of myself and of where I hope to be as a
future administrator (NBPTS, 2014, p.16) The idea of cultural diversity has been part of my
educational philosophy since middle school. I grew up in a very rural area of Pickens County, SC,
where I attended elementary school with all white children. It wasn t until I went to middle school
in Simpsonville, SC that I was enrolled in classes with students of other cultural and... Show more

It was by far the best training I could have ever received. I was hired at the same school at the
end of my student teaching semester and have now been teaching for 4 years. The notion of
cultural diversity is important to me because of the amount of personal growth I have
experienced by being exposed to the diverse lives of my friends and students. My past
experiences and this course have prepared me to be a self reflecting, culturally relevant educator
and administrator. I hope to use my knowledge from this research and course to influence other
educators to also create culturally relevant classrooms that will openly welcome and embrace all
students. A classroom is only truly culturally relevant when it has student academic success, paired
with a development and maintenance of cultural competence, for which students also develop
cognizance where they desire to challenge the status quo of the present day social structure
(Ladson Billings, 1995, p.160) According to Ladson Billings (1995), it is behoove of teachers to
have pedagogical excellence in good teaching, also referred to as culturally relevant teaching with
collective empowerment. Often times for students of culturally diverse backgrounds, school is a
place where they cannot be themselves. Most school s cultural norms are typically

Martin Luther King Letter From Birmingham Essay
In Dr. Martin Luther King Junior s Letter from Birmingham, he discusses that there are four basic
steps to nonviolent campaigning. There is the collection of facts to determine whether injustices
are alive; negotiation; self purification; and direct action. Civil disobedience and civil rights can be
directly related to these steps and the process of a nonviolent campaign. Civil disobedienceis
defined as a form of political participation based on a conscious decision to break a law believed
to be unjust and to suffer the consequences. (Edwards 647) Martin Luther King Jr. may be the best
example of a civil rights activist. Dr. King came to the realization in his Letter from Birmingham
that, Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.
Dr. King had found that injustices are alive through his own personal experience of segregation and
discrimination. He was on his way to completing the first step in his own process of nonviolent
campaigning. Specifically in Birmingham, there was vast unjust treatment of African... Show more

Martin Luther King Jr discusses in his Letter from Birmingham that there are four basic steps to

while leading other civil rights activists. He was successful on many occasions, especially in his
famous march from Selma to Montgomery. Nonviolent campaigning is a form of civil
disobedience and can directly help retain, acquire, or reform civil liberties and civil rights.
Nonviolent campaigning and other types of civil disobedience can also abolish unjust laws or
practices (de jure and de facto). Martin Luther King Jr. may be the best example of a civil rights

The Thing In The Apartment By John William Ross
Since the first sound film in 1927, filmmakers employed tools to create sound effects and complete
the illusion (Cavalcanti, 1939). The use of sound became essential to the quality of films,
particularly in fiction where the audience seeks entertainment and thrill. Indeed, Rockett (1982)
notes that music, background noises and sounds effects are the elements creating a particular mood
or atmosphere.
This theory is notably applicable to the horror genre, as its specificity is to incite fear and play on
the viewer s nerves. According to Rockett, horror is indeed primarily a sound based medium (1982).
Horror films sounds play with emotions, for instance with abrupt shifts up and down in pitch. As
Gron states, these sound contrasts function as priming mechanisms , playing with spectators
expectations of the scare (2013). These theories lead to the importance of recognising what makes
an efficient sound track to frighten the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this short refers to most conventions of horror films and does not shine by the
originality of the storyline, it does produce a very effective tension with regards to its short length.
In this piece, I will outline to what extent the sound of this short is powerful in creating tension
and dread. I will first set out the storyline and explain how The Thing in the Apartment
characterises classical features of the horror genre. Secondly, I will analyse the role of silence and
background noise in shaping horror, as well as highlighting how the sound contrasts inspire

The Gospel Of Luke And The Gospel Of Luke
The Gospel of Luke is the third book in the canon of the New Testament and the final of the
synoptic Gospels. While the Gospel of Matthew does contain more chapters, Luke is the longest of
the four Gospels, with the most verses and most words out of all four Gospels in the New
Testament. Luke encompasses the full lifespan of Christ: his conception, birth, childhood,
adulthood, ministry, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The Gospel of Lukealso contains many
parables that Jesustold during his earthly ministry, along with miracles that Jesus performed during
this time. The Gospelof Luke is a vibrant book that gives believers insight in the life of Jesus Christ.
Authorship Though the author of the Gospel of Luke is not named within the Gospel itself,
critics agree that the author of the Gospel of Luke is Luke, a physician. Paul refers to Luke as the
beloved physician in Colossians 4:14. Luke is credited as being the author of the book of Acts, and
was a frequent companion of the Apostle Paul; there is evidence that Paul was with Luke during
both of his Roman imprisonments (2 Timothy 4:11 and Philemon 24). The reason for the
anonymity of authorship is likely that the recipient (Theophilus) would know who the author was,
and thus there was no need for self identification during the time of composition. Luke may have
also acted out of humility by not identifying himself as the author of this Gospel.
Luke, being a physician and a learned man, possessed tremendous

The Strategic Board Game Diplomacy
The strategic board game Diplomacy focuses on wars, but more importantly the act of
negotiating. The players are responsible for forming strategies by both developing and breaking
alliances with their competitors. The game is set in Europe during World War I with most teams
beginning with similar resources. Each player competes as an either Austria Hungary, Turkey,
Italy, England, France, Russia, or Germany. With at least three home center game pieces on the
board, there are strategic movements in order to control one of the eighteen supply centers. This
involves phases of negotiation prior to movement of game piece. There is no factor of luck. The
main variable in the game is each team s ability to convince the others to do what they want. The
core game strategy is negotiation.
In the game and actual life all are envious of England because of its location and resources as well
as its well developed army. Russia Germany and France are potential threats. Realizing that England
has to prevent Germany from joining with France due how is the game diplomacy unrealistic to
their potential. I believe that many of the alliances that occurred during World War Idid not actually
happen in our game of Diplomacy. There several shocking twists and turns. In our game, Italy and
Russia stayed rather benign and non engaging. They moved some pieces out of their countries;
however, they primarily just protected their home country. Germany, similar to a real life map, is

Oregon also had delays in counting votes because it used only a mail in ballot causing also the
elections returns to be delayed (U.S. Constitution Online, 2013, para. 8). Ira Krakow (2006)
asserted that due to Gore s request to recounts the votes manually, there were four counties in
Florida such as Volusia, Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami Dade that recounted the votes which
were also not completed within the seven days deadline after the election. Volusia County
finished but not the other three counties and Florida s Secretary of State Republican Katherine
Harris then requested them to give proof of reasons they have not finished recounting the votes
to what she also rejected and decided to certify the ballots on November 18th, however, the Gore
legal team sued Harris to prevent the action, and the Florida Supreme Court agreed and ordered
Harris to accept the results of any manual recount that was completed by November 26th
(Krakow, 2006). The Supreme Court took the case, stopped the recount of the votes, and made
the decision only with the votes that were recounted awarding the election to Bush on December

the Electoral College on December 18th so the Congress would not have to certify the Florida

Analysis Of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
Although depression may seem like an endless burden to bear, those suffering from the mental
illness need to hold on to realize that they are not alone, and that depression does end. Through
the use of a range of film techniques employed throughout the final scene of the film, Stephen
Chbosky successfully weaves this idea into the closing sequence of The Perks of Being a
Wallflower. The comedy drama coming of age film reflects on the trials and tribulations of
adolescent life, as we join protagonist Charlie on his journey of development. As Charle is
introduced as a socially awkward wallflower suffering severely from depression, the film
techniques used during the ending scene show how Charlie has found his place in the world with
friends... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dubbed by Sam as the Tunnel Song she loves to listen to while she cruises through the night, the
song Heroes by David Bowie further supports Chbosky s success in establishing a sense of hope
for the viewer. Charlie s non diegetic commentary stating this one moment when you know you
re not a sad story. You are alive. followed by the song s lyrics we can be heroes, just for one day,
support each other in emphasizing the idea of having those moments where you feel like
nothing else matters, and you can feel like you re a hero, just like how Charlie and his friends
are feeling on top of the world. The lyrics of the diegetic song which state though nothing, will
keep us together/we can steal time, just for one day, reflect on Charlie and Sam s relationship.
They realize that they will not be able to maintain a relationship since Sam lives away from
Charlie to go to college, but despite this, they have learned to enjoy the little time they have
together and make the most of it. Chbosky s use of diegetic music once again perfectly serve its
purpose of creating a sense of hope for the viewer, and illustrating the newfound lessons that the
viewer has learned with Charlie alongside his quest for maturity. He teaches the viewer that
depression will not always be continual darkness there will be moments where you

My Life Has Been A Rollercoaster, With Many Ups And Downs
My life has been a rollercoaster, with many ups and downs. I am thankful for the ups and downs.
The downs have made me strong and the ups have showed me that life is worth living. I was
born in the United states but raised in Nicaragua. I do not consider myself neither from here nor
there. I consider myself a fusion of both cultures. During the mid 80s, my parents were growing
up under the Sandinista communist regime. They lived in a country isolated by a civil war,
subjected to extreme polarization, with a deeply censored press, and diminished liberties. There
were only two options, accepting it or changing it. This is why my father got involved in politics at

And So We Put Goldfish In The Pool

Adam New
Exploring the banality of living in a small town, And So We Put Goldfish in the Pool. is a quirky
short film from the Land of the Rising Sun.
For decades, Japan has been a breeding ground for some of the most unique and innovative
filmmaking in the history of the industry. Directors like Akira Kurosawa, Hayao Miyazaki, and
YasujirЕЌ Ozu are considered visionaries, and filmmakers today use their work as inspiration for
their own. Even today, many Japanese movies manage to achieve high acclaim, even outside of its
borders. The films of Takashi Miike, Beat Takeshi Kitano, and others like them have garnered cult
followings with Western audiences. With this in mind, it is no surprise that Japanese short films
can also do well stateside. One recent example is And So We Put Goldfish in the Pool. (translated
from the Japanese, SЕЌshite watashitachi wa pЕ«ru ni kingyo o, ), a 2016 drama written and
directed by Makoto Nagahisa. Running at just over twenty eight minutes, this short film has been

Ethos And Logos In Advertising
There are 3 types of form of argument in creating advertisement, namely, ethos, pathos and logos.
Ethos is a form based on character or authority while pathos is based on emotions such as fear,
desire, sympathy and anger. Lastly, logos is something on logic, facts and figures. In advertisement
industry, ethoscould be identified through the product which is endorsed by celebrity, someone
in a uniform and professional looking people. This is because ethos refers to the trustworthiness
or credibility of the people who advertise. When we see a puppy locked inside stuffy cage, beside
an empty feed bowl and staring at us, we probably feel sympathy for the poor puppy s situation.
This is the way the advertiser sells us dog food. They are successful to stimulate our pathosas Pathos
means persuading by appealing to the people s emotion. Logos is a concept that is opposite of
pathos. It means persuading by use of reasoning and logic. It is mostly in form of evidence,

External factors influence a firm s choice of direction and action and, ultimately, its organizational
structure and internal processes. These factors, which constitute the external environment, can be
divided into three interrelated subcategories: factors in the remote environment, factors in the
industry environment, and factors in the operating environment... In combination, these factors
form the basis of the opportunities and threats that a firm faces in its competitive environment,
(Pearce Robinson, 2004, p. 78). To create an experience unlike its competitors, Starbucks must

anything but difficult to overlook that only 120 years back, a number of the games we

Color In Federico Garcia Lorca
In this play, the writer, Federico Garcia Lorca has used colour to symbolize a lot of things.
Colours hold as much importance in ones life as fire and water. Colours have a pivotal role in
this play as well. The use of colour has made it very easy for the writer to explain what the exact
situation was. Also it has been used to show the idea of foreshadowing to the audience. For
example the use of the colour black exposed to the viewers the idea of the deaths of Leonardo and
the Bridegroom particularly.
In Act 1, Scene 1, in the Bridegroom s house, the introduction states that the room was painted in
shades of yellow. Its gives a pleasant environment to the place as it is the colour of gold and
wheat which are considered as the signs of prosperity and wealth. However, the colour yellow is
also the sign on a traffic light portraying caution, and is then ironically contrasted with the deaths
that had taken place previously in the house. Also, as we see the mother s hate and anger towards
the Felix family as she believed the murders got executed, yellow also is associated with betrayal

The Guide Of The Perplexed
Summary of The Guide of the Perplexed
Maimonides is a twelfth century, Jewish philosopher, and author of The Guide of the Perplexed. In
the essay, Maimonides explains how educated individuals with knowledge of the divine science are
to understand God s secrets. He states that the secrets are explained through parables and riddles.
Those who explain the secrets cannot fully describe them so they must use obscure language.
Educated men in Maimonides essay have knowledge manifested to them through God by lightning
flashes that are dictated by how willing the men are to allow themselves have a more internal
understanding of the knowledge presented to them.
Maimonides treatise is meant to clarify the meanings of the prophecies used in the books of
prophecy for those men who have studied philosophy and religion. Equivocal terms are open to
one or more meanings while univocal means when a word only has one meaning. Derivative
terms are words that are derived from another or root word of the same meaning. Lastly,
amphibolous terms are words that are either univocal or equivocal. (5) While the treatise is meant
to explain those terms, in no way is it supposed to be an explanation for the books of prophecy for
the scripturally uneducated or vulgar . Maimonides states that while the men who have studied
scripture and God are perplexed as they try to understand the above mentioned terms, it is their
decision to either allow or deny themselves to be drawn to try to understand both

The Benefits Of Technology
Technology is ever increasing in our society. There seems to be more and more focus on
innovation, learning, and making everything as efficient as possible with the help of technology.
Technology is not only used at home, but practically everywhere. Libraries and schools, in
particular, are aiding in the learning process for many, with the use of technology. While technology
holds a plethora of benefits, there is a rather common debate about if the use of it holds more
consequences than benefits for children. There is a great importance on knowing how much
technology is too much, what kind of content is appropriate or beneficial, and how to protect
children from situations that occur in online platforms, such as cyber bullying.
Our society has made astounding advancements in the world of technology, and as a result it is
becoming increasingly integrated into the daily lives of adults and children alike. Children seem
to be spending less time outdoors and doing other activities than they are on the computer,
watching television, or playing video games. There is a legitimate concern for children who seem
to use media with excess. Adults often wonder, how much is too much. There is differing opinion
among many on the answer. There are benefits and consequences to prolonged media use, that need
to be examined in order to discover and promote a healthy balance.
There can be substantial advantages to incorporating the use of technology into a child s education.

Moral Decision Making In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Essay
We all make choices; sometimes those choices have negative consequences.
By Ehi Oyugbo
Humans are capable of making their own decisions which can often have positive or negative
consequences on both themselves and others. Every day we face decisions about what to eat, what
to wear and how to use our time.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeby C.S Lewis tells a story of forgiveness, bravery, self
sacrifice and betrayal while introducing Christian values and lessons on moral conduct. Although
Lewis claims that links to the Christian faith are purely coincidental, the story contains elements of
Christian allegory and many parallels between the scriptures and the life of the Pevensie children.
This essay will analyse both Aslan and Edmund Pevensie s choices throughout the movie and their
influencing factors in order to gain insight into moral decision making.
Set in the1940 s during World War II, The Lion, the Witch and the follows the four English
siblings: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who are evacuated to the country house of an
old Professor for their safety during the London air raids. There, they find an old cupboard which
has the ability to transport them between the real world and Narnia.
Edmund is the 3rd oldest of the Pevensie children, at the age of 10. Due to his experiences at
school he became a bully, being the conceited, spiteful traitor of the family. One of the many
parallels present in the movie is

Thomas Hobbes True Moral Philosophy
Thomas Hobbes states that the true doctrine of the laws of nature is a true moral philosophy. To
accurately assess this statement, the concept of a true moral philosophy needs to be understood.
Once this is understood it then needs to be compared to the laws of nature that Hobbes states in the
Leviathan. After comparison we can then either affirm or deny Hobbes statement that the laws of
nature create the foundation for a true moral philosophy. Hobbes unquestionably creates a moral
philosophy, but he falls short in the creation of a true moral philosophy, where true would mean
being applicable in all cases. He falls short because the concept of a true moral philosophy doesn t
exist in practice. This paper will show how morality changes based... Show more content on

Most would say that Hobbes creates a guideline that is basic enough to be followed by all
cultures that are capable to reason, but differences arise in the details of what Hobbes states and
for this reason his philosophy cannot be adopted. When looking at his law of nature that states
that people must stay away from making signs that display hatred towards people, this can be
interpreted to him saying that we should never protest. By following his moral philosophy we
would be giving away our right to protest and fight for peace, which is directly against his own
belief system, one that states we must move towards the path that allows us to find peace.
Hobbes would respond to this statement by saying that if his laws of nature are adopted correctly
and we have given up our rights to a sovereign government they will be taking care of us in a
manner that we would never need to protest. Where his logic falls is in the details, and the fact that
we have multiple sovereign nations that are all individually fighting for peace, not working
together. So if we have a protest in downtown Minneapolis focused against another country, this
should be perfectly moral, but according to Hobbes it would not

Single-Proton Research Paper
The neutron is a subatomic particle, symbol n or n0 , with no net electric charge and a mass
slightly larger than that of a proton. Protons and neutrons constitute the nuclei of atoms. Since
protons and neutrons behave similarly within the nucleus, and each has a mass of approximately
one atomic mass unit, they are both referred to as nucleons.[5] Their properties and interactions are
described by nuclear physics.
The chemical and nuclear properties of the nucleus are determined by the number of protons, called
the atomic number, and the number of neutrons, called the neutron number. The atomic mass
number is the total number of nucleons. For example, carbon has atomic number 6, and its
abundant carbon 12 isotope has 6 neutrons, whereas its rare carbon 13 isotope has 7 neutrons. Some
elements occur in nature with only one stable isotope, such as fluorine. Other elements occur with
many stable isotopes, such as tin with ten stable isotopes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Neutrons are required for the stability of nuclei, with the exception of the single proton hydrogen
atom. Neutrons are produced copiously in nuclear fission and fusion. They are a primary contributor
to the nucleosynthesis of chemical elements within stars through fission, fusion, and neutron
capture processes.
The neutron is essential to the production of nuclear power. In the decade after the neutron was
discovered by James Chadwick in 1932,[6] neutrons were used to induce many different types of
nuclear transmutations. With the discovery of nuclear fission in 1938,[7] it was quickly realized
that, if a fission event produced neutrons, each of these neutrons might cause further fission events,
etc., in a cascade known as a nuclear chain reaction.[8] These events and findings led to the first
self sustaining nuclear reactor (Chicago Pile 1, 1942) and the first nuclear weapon (Trinity,

Liz Holt Strictly Ballroom
The characters in Strictly Ballroom are largely caricatures. This topic will be explored with
reference to the characters Fran and Liz Holt in the film.
Liz Holt is portrayed as the dumb blonde as well as extremely shallow within the film and this is
executed in a variety of ways. Being Scott s dance partner she is used to being in the lime light
and her use of colourful costumes contributes to this too. She wears yellow majority of the time
and this is evident of her character as she is selfish, cowardice and attention seeking. Her make up
is also well overdone further depicting this idea. Liz is also portrayed as the mean girl and drops

progresses through the film she begins to wear clothing and colours that make a greater

attention but rather because she is comfortable with the person that she has become. At first she
hides behind her glasses which stereotypically portrays her as lacking an amount of incite

confidence. She does not take pride in her hair which shows us how little she cares about her
appearance. She develops from being the stereotypical ugly duckling to a beautiful swan . When

Of An Former Colored Man By James Weldon Johnson Essay
In James Weldon Johnson s Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man, the is written narrator to be
perceived at face first as an average white male, when in fact he is inherently of colored descent.
Consequently, in regards to society s principle of the one drop rule, the narrator then faces an
identity complex in understanding whether he is black since society has categorized him on the
account of his bloodline, or white because of his external appearance. For at the end of the novel,
he makes the conscious decision to pass as white. Yet in erasing traces of his his Negro descent,
this question whether the narrator s decision violates particular morals in passing as white. Or,
whether the narrator s decision demonstrates that individuals like himself, must recreate themselves
out of necessity. In order to be liberated from societies categorization, and obtain their concept of
happiness, that is beyond the restricted principles from society. For the notion of recreating oneself
for the means of progressing towards a future goal is understood in F.Scotts Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby. For lowly Jimmy Gatz is given an opportunity to recreate himself as Jay Gatsby, and does
so through concealing his past identity from society. Yet in effect, this enables Gatsby to become
limitless in how he progresses towards his idealized future. That in which, this paper will combine

Alternative Solutions: In such a situation, since the bad economic environment, it is not possible
to keep the original structure to fit its culture. One possible method to solve this problem is to
collect continuous customers feedback and to subdivide the feedback by different departments.
The culture of Cisco is to keep paying attention to the customers, no matter the amount of
resource. But the new structure made the whole resources of the company useless to satisfy
customers. Thus, a good way to know what customers need is to collect the feedback from them.
In the article How to Change a Culture: Lessons from NUMMI, the author told us that those of us
trying to change our organizations culture need to define the things we want to do, the ways we
want to behave .iv By collecting the feedback of customers, each Cisco s employee could be
clarified of what they need to do to satisfy the customers.
To make the feedback effective, Cisco should pay attention to two aspects. One aspect is to look for
attitudes of the customers. Unlike the common survey of other companies, Cisco should constantly
to collect the data and feedback from new customers. By this method, Cisco could have the newest
tendency of the customers need. The other aspect should relate to the employees of Cisco. Just as
in the article Leading by Leveraging Culture, the author says, the strong culture

Jackson Pollock s The Deep
The Deep was painted by Jackson Pollock in 1953 and was mostly done with black and white,
which he considered the essential colors. There are some pecks of yellow and light blue
throughout the canvas. The painting was huge, 5 X7 , and was painted with oil and enamel on
canvas. Pollock would paint this size canvas by putting it on the floor and placing one leg on it
while he painted. Pollock used a drip method which consisted of pouring paint on the canvas and
dripping paint onto it with sticks and brushes. Pollock s most famous paintings were created during
the drip period from 1947 to 1950.

Meaning Of The Ancreon Song
Francis Scott Key was an American lawyer that had boarded the British ship of their fleet to
persuade the British to release one of his friends who had been recently been arrested. Even
though he got what he had hoped for, the British refused to let them go. This is due to them
already having knowledge of the the attack that was about to occur. Therefore, under the British
s watch, the British allowed them to return to their ship. Under the watch of the British, Key
witnessed the bombardment on Fort Mc Henry. On the night of September 13, 1814, as he sat
and watched, he continued to view the distinct pictures that were there. This includes: clearing
smoke, darkness, gunshots, and red. (Brinkley 176) Then later, as he continued to watch what
was happening on Fort Mc Henry, Key continued to write his thoughts. Watching this, he thought
to himself that the British would win, but in reality, it was an American victory. On September
14, he saw the American flag still flying over the fort. (Siegel and Green 30) While still on the
ship, Key put all of his thoughts on paper making it into a poem. He named this poem The
Defence of Ft. Mc Henry . His poem was a tune of a older song set to The Anacreon Song . Ralph
Tomlinson wrote An Anacreon in Heaven that was used as a tone for Key to write his poem. This
song was commonly used for the Anacreontic Society. This club consisted of wealthy men who
were named after a poet, Anacreon. His poems mainly focused on love and wine.

What Is The Theme Of Fire In Fahrenheit 451
As I came to finish the critically acclaimed book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, I noticed the

up fire to represent Montag s suppression, while towards the end, he contradicts himself and uses
fire to show Montag s liberation and the hope fire brings. Even though the contradictory uses of fire
confused me at first, I then realized that the author was using it to contrast between how something

Auditing Standard No. 18
Auditing Standard No. 18, Related Parties
The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board adopted a new auditing standard concerning
related party transactions, significant unusual transactions, and a company s financial relationships
and transactions with its executive officers (PCAOB Standard No. 18, 2014). The goal of these
new regulations is to improve auditor performance requirements with regard to evaluating and
responding to the risks of material misstatements associated with related parties (Cohn, SEC, 2014).
Investors will benefit from these new adaptations to the auditing standards because the auditors will
perform a more thorough examination of related parties resulting in a better understanding of these
relations (Cohn, PCAOB, 2014). The old standards in these areas were seen to be insufficient by the
Board. If action was not taken, the transactions with these close relationships could increase the risk
of material misstatements in a company s financial statements. The new auditing standard and
amendments we adopted today address transactions and relationships that have been contributing
factors in a number of financial reporting frauds, said James R. Doty, PCAOB Chairman.
Subjecting these areas to enhanced auditor scrutiny may help avert corporate failures and avoid
harm to investors (PCAOB Standard No. 18, 2014). Doty also pointed out that Enron was brought
down by related party transactions and a company, Dynegy, was almost destroyed by significant

The Allegorical Messages of The Divine Comedy by Dante...
The beginning lines of The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri indicate a pragmatic journey
through the dark woods. It is soon evident that The Divine Comedy is in terms of an allegory.
Midway through his life, Dante finds himself lost and in darkness. He is confused and unaware of
how he has ended up in these dark woods. Dante soon comes across Italian poet Virgil, who will
guide him through the Nine Circles of Hell. Dante Alighieris The Divine Comedy: Inferno portrays
Dante s life and adventure through Hell which allegorically represents a much broader subject: man
s journey through life to salvation.
The Divine Comedy: Inferno begins when Dante is midway through life and he has lost his way.
In the starting lines, Dante claims, Midway in our life s journey, I went astray From the straight
road and woke To find myself Alone in a dark wood. Dante declares that he has strayed away from
the straight road. In Dante s allegory, the straight road symbolizes the right and virtuous path that
leads to God. Mankind must be constantly seeking morality, and once man begins to lose sight of
this righteousness, they will begin to abandon God s honest path. In order to remain on the right
path, man must carefully strive for virtue and be aware of their sins.
Not knowing how he wandered away from the straight road, Dante finds himself in an eerie, dark
wood. In Dante s Inferno, this dark wood allegorically resembles the people of mankind who are
not consciously aware of

Effects Of Ph On Enzyme Concentration
Effects of pH on Enzyme Concentration Abstract: In this lab report you will be testing the effects
pH has on the rate on enzyme reactions, you will be collecting data and evaluating things that went
will and ways it could be done better to help us further understand this lab.
Research Question: How does pH affect the amount of reactivate when reacted with Hydrogen
peroxide on an enzyme?
Hypothesis: The higher the pH the higher the reaction with Hydrogen Peroxide on the enzyme will
increase.
Background Information: An enzyme is a catalyst that speeds up chemical reactions, but it does
so with out change the chemical reaction its self. Ph is the concentration of hydrogen ions it
ranges from 1 14 when the pH is at 7 it is considered neutral. Water has a pH of 7 which is neutral
on the pH scale. In this lab we will be experimenting to be how the different number of pH effect
the rate the enzyme reacts. Since water is neutral at 7 we have a hypothesis that its amount of form
inside the test tube should be higher or have more form then something that is more acidic, which
means is pH is lower than 7. The amount of enzyme and the amount of concentration substrate
should be equal since it s an equally balanced formula and you can not make more then what you
put in that means if the substrate concentration increases then the enzyme activity should also
increase. We will be using hydrogen peroxide which is a liquid with strong oxidizing properties to
test are hypothesis. Because of

certain objects or place. One example of symbolic interaction is social media. Most adolescents

students who are smarter and have better grades than us. However, not because someone has more
of something, makes what you have any less significant and special.
On May 28th in my AP Literature class, my teacher handed out note cards for that night s Senior
$#$#1$#$# ceremony. My card had three numbers on it 7,9 and 21. Each number represents the
order in which a group of awards would be given out. For instance, since I had number 7 first, I was
part of the seventh group to go up on stage and receive an award. I was ecstatic to see which awards

I felt as if I was ,in a sense, finally measuring up to my peers. Once I sat back down, I started to
enjoy the ceremony more. I observed as the number ten group received their award for having
over 1,000 hours of community service, the group eleven, then group twelve and so on.
Patiently, I awaited for Mr. Bravo to hold up the twenty one in order to receive my last award.
When he finally did, I stood up and began to walk toward the stage s stairs, but I noticed that I
was the only one there. The times I went up before, I could hear the sound of chairs folding up
and students chattering as they walk to get in line. But not this time. All you could here were
the clicks of my heels. I began to feel even more nervous now. I had absolutely no clue what the
award was for. Why was I the only one here. Is it a special award? Did I read the number wrong?
Was I in line for the wrong number? My mind began to overflow with these questions. This time
my principle began with Our next award is being presented to a special student whom the
counseling staff has chosen as this years Champion of Character for her extraordinary high
school growth. She then continued with Congratulations to Ms. Leslie Ruiz. I proceeded to
walk on stage and receive my award. I was very nervous as I stood on stage alone, but I also felt
very honored and ecstatic to receive such a special award. From a distance I could see my parents
and my boyfriend as they

The Four Ws Of Power In Shakespeare s Tempest
The Four W s of Power
Power is an incredibly complicated, yet simple mechanism people take advantage of, and it
essentially defines every interaction between anyone. None of it is simple to understand, and
both power and control can be expressed in vastly different ways. The four W s are the four most
common ways power is demonstrated or obtained, and there are real world examples, and even
examples in Shakespeare s Tempest that demonstrate these W s being used. Now what are the four
W s?
The first W is to control when an interaction begins. The person who begins an interaction
demonstrates that they are in charge. In Shakespeare s Tempest, this is demonstrated incredibly
obviously in the conversations between Prospero, and Ariel, Prospero s spiritual servant. Come
away, servant, come. I am ready now. Approach my Ariel. Come. (Shakespeare, Act 1, Sc. 2, Line
222 223). Almost every single time Ariel appears in the play, he is being summoned. This shows
Prospero s power over Ariel by showing that he can begin the interaction whenever he wants.
Another potential way this could demonstrate power is if the conversation is hesitated. If no words
are being said and if no action is being done, it is the person that is most comfortable in this silence
and stillness that demonstrates power.
The next of the four W s is who. Controlling who someone has power over is just as, if not more
important to maintaining control as any of the other 3 points. In Shakespeare s Tempest, Prosperous

  • 2. Analysis Of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas They say that ignorance is bliss. That is somewhat true, as not understanding the atrocities in our world would surely make a happier person. However, innocence can also lead to calamity. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, is a coming of age story about Bruno, the son of a Nazi Commandant under Adolf Hitler. Bruno was initially very ignorant of what was happening in the world and was very immature about moving from Berlin. As the days went by, he got used to his new home and his thoughts were maturing, as he started thinking with logic and rationale. Bruno finally understands that he has to be a good person to everyone regardless what others might think. His character has strongly developed. Despite Bruno being unaware of his situation and his father being a Nazi, he matures from being childish and unsatisfied for moving to finally finding purpose in life by being a good human being. Bruno, initially, has ignorance about everything going on in his life. For example, his dissatisfaction with leaving Berlin is demonstrated in many parts of the story. He is shown to the reader as being innocent, immature, and unable to give things a chance. On many occasions, Bruno complains about moving to Out With (Auschwitz). He continually complains before even giving himself a chance to experience it. He was whining and being stubborn. To illustrate, in the novel, the author says, Nothing, thought Bruno, not even the insects, would ever choose to stay at Out With. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Prescribing Drugs And Its Effects On Children Last year, I wrote about a scary trend in which doctors are prescribing powerful ADHD medications to minors, whether they meet the ADHD diagnostic criteria or not. In that article, I noted that more than 70 percent of the children receiving ADHD medications in my home state, Oklahoma, do not meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Why, then, are so many young people being medicated with these drugs? As I noted in the above piece, some doctors are prescribing ADHD drugs to kids simply to help them get better grades in school. These study drugs, common for years among the college set, are now being demanded by parents who want their kids to get top scores, even at the elementary school level. But what are the risks? Well, besides the many well known side effects, including stunted growth, sleep problems, personality changes, suicidal thoughts, heart attacks and strokes, doctors have now added priapism and the possibility of permanent erectile dysfunctionto the list. ADHD drugs and priapism According to this press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, many ADHD drugs, including those containing methylphenidate products, atomoxetine, and even those containing amphetamine products have been reportedly linked to cases of priapism. Civil disobedienceis defined as a form of political participation based on a conscious decision to break a law believed to be unjust and to suffer the consequences. (Edwards 647) Martin Luther King Jr. may be the best example of a civil rights activist. Dr. King came to the realization in his Letter from Birmingham that, Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. • 7. The Thing In The Apartment By John William Ross Since the first sound film in 1927, filmmakers employed tools to create sound effects and complete the illusion (Cavalcanti, 1939). The use of sound became essential to the quality of films, particularly in fiction where the audience seeks entertainment and thrill. Indeed, Rockett (1982) notes that music, background noises and sounds effects are the elements creating a particular mood or atmosphere. This theory is notably applicable to the horror genre, as its specificity is to incite fear and play on the viewer s nerves. According to Rockett, horror is indeed primarily a sound based medium (1982). Horror films sounds play with emotions, for instance with abrupt shifts up and down in pitch. As Gron states, these sound contrasts function as priming mechanisms , playing with spectators expectations of the scare (2013). These theories lead to the importance of recognising what makes an efficient sound track to frighten the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. The Gospel Of Luke And The Gospel Of Luke The Gospel of Luke is the third book in the canon of the New Testament and the final of the synoptic Gospels. While the Gospel of Matthew does contain more chapters, Luke is the longest of the four Gospels, with the most verses and most words out of all four Gospels in the New Testament. Luke encompasses the full lifespan of Christ: his conception, birth, childhood, adulthood, ministry, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The Gospel of Lukealso contains many parables that Jesustold during his earthly ministry, along with miracles that Jesus performed during this time. The Gospelof Luke is a vibrant book that gives believers insight in the life of Jesus Christ. Authorship Though the author of the Gospel of Luke is not named within the Gospel itself, critics agree that the author of the Gospel of Luke is Luke, a physician. Paul refers to Luke as the beloved physician in Colossians 4:14. Luke is credited as being the author of the book of Acts, and was a frequent companion of the Apostle Paul; there is evidence that Paul was with Luke during both of his Roman imprisonments (2 Timothy 4:11 and Philemon 24). The reason for the anonymity of authorship is likely that the recipient (Theophilus) would know who the author was, and thus there was no need for self identification during the time of composition. Luke may have also acted out of humility by not identifying himself as the author of this Gospel. Luke, being a physician and a learned man, possessed tremendous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After comparison we can then either affirm or deny Hobbes statement that the laws of nature create the foundation for a true moral philosophy. Most would say that Hobbes creates a guideline that is basic enough to be followed by all cultures that are capable to reason, but differences arise in the details of what Hobbes states and for this reason his philosophy cannot be adopted. When looking at his law of nature that states that people must stay away from making signs that display hatred towards people, this can be interpreted to him saying that we should never protest. By following his moral philosophy we would be giving away our right to protest and fight for peace, which is directly against his own belief system, one that states we must move towards the path that allows us to find peace. Hobbes would respond to this statement by saying that if his laws of nature are adopted correctly and we have given up our rights to a sovereign government they will be taking care of us in a manner that we would never need to protest. Where his logic falls is in the details, and the fact that we have multiple sovereign nations that are all individually fighting for peace, not working together. So if we have a protest in downtown Minneapolis focused against another country, this should be perfectly moral, but according to Hobbes it would not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Single-Proton Research Paper The neutron is a subatomic particle, symbol n or n0 , with no net electric charge and a mass slightly larger than that of a proton. Protons and neutrons constitute the nuclei of atoms. Since protons and neutrons behave similarly within the nucleus, and each has a mass of approximately one atomic mass unit, they are both referred to as nucleons.[5] Their properties and interactions are described by nuclear physics. The chemical and nuclear properties of the nucleus are determined by the number of protons, called the atomic number, and the number of neutrons, called the neutron number. The atomic mass number is the total number of nucleons. For example, carbon has atomic number 6, and its abundant carbon 12 isotope has 6 neutrons, whereas its rare carbon 13 isotope has 7 neutrons. Some elements occur in nature with only one stable isotope, such as fluorine. Other elements occur with many stable isotopes, such as tin with ten stable isotopes. ... Neutrons are produced copiously in nuclear fission and fusion. They are a primary contributor to the nucleosynthesis of chemical elements within stars through fission, fusion, and neutron capture processes. The neutron is essential to the production of nuclear power. In the decade after the neutron was discovered by James Chadwick in 1932,[6] neutrons were used to induce many different types of nuclear transmutations. With the discovery of nuclear fission in 1938,[7] it was quickly realized that, if a fission event produced neutrons, each of these neutrons might cause further fission events, etc., in a cascade known as a nuclear chain reaction.[8] These events and findings led to the first self sustaining nuclear reactor (Chicago Pile 1, 1942) and the first nuclear weapon (Trinity, ... Liz Holt is portrayed as the dumb blonde as well as extremely shallow within the film and this is executed in a variety of ways. Being Scott s dance partner she is used to being in the lime light and her use of colourful costumes contributes to this too. She wears yellow majority of the time and this is evident of her character as she is selfish, cowardice and attention seeking. Her make up is also well overdone further depicting this idea. Of An Former Colored Man By James Weldon Johnson Essay In James Weldon Johnson s Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man, the is written narrator to be perceived at face first as an average white male, when in fact he is inherently of colored descent. Consequently, in regards to society s principle of the one drop rule, the narrator then faces an identity complex in understanding whether he is black since society has categorized him on the account of his bloodline, or white because of his external appearance. For at the end of the novel, he makes the conscious decision to pass as white. Meaning Of The Ancreon Song Francis Scott Key was an American lawyer that had boarded the British ship of their fleet to persuade the British to release one of his friends who had been recently been arrested. Even though he got what he had hoped for, the British refused to let them go. This is due to them already having knowledge of the the attack that was about to occur. Therefore, under the British s watch, the British allowed them to return to their ship. Under the watch of the British, Key witnessed the bombardment on Fort Mc Henry. On the night of September 13, 1814, as he sat and watched, he continued to view the distinct pictures that were there. This includes: clearing smoke, darkness, gunshots, and red. (Brinkley 176) Then later, as he continued to watch what was happening on Fort Mc Henry, Key continued to write his thoughts. Watching this, he thought to himself that the British would win, but in reality, it was an American victory. On September 14, he saw the American flag still flying over the fort. (Siegel and Green 30) While still on the ship, Key put all of his thoughts on paper making it into a poem. He named this poem The Defence of Ft. Mc Henry . His poem was a tune of a older song set to The Anacreon Song . Ralph Tomlinson wrote An Anacreon in Heaven that was used as a tone for Key to write his poem. Auditing Standard No. 18 Auditing Standard No. 18, Related Parties The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board adopted a new auditing standard concerning related party transactions, significant unusual transactions, and a company s financial relationships and transactions with its executive officers (PCAOB Standard No. 18, 2014). The goal of these new regulations is to improve auditor performance requirements with regard to evaluating and responding to the risks of material misstatements associated with related parties (Cohn, SEC, 2014). Investors will benefit from these new adaptations to the auditing standards because the auditors will perform a more thorough examination of related parties resulting in a better understanding of these relations (Cohn, PCAOB, 2014). The old standards in these areas were seen to be insufficient by the Board. If action was not taken, the transactions with these close relationships could increase the risk of material misstatements in a company s financial statements. The new auditing standard and amendments we adopted today address transactions and relationships that have been contributing factors in a number of financial reporting frauds, said James R. Doty, PCAOB Chairman. Subjecting these areas to enhanced auditor scrutiny may help avert corporate failures and avoid harm to investors (PCAOB Standard No. 18, 2014). It is soon evident that The Divine Comedy is in terms of an allegory. Midway through his life, Dante finds himself lost and in darkness. He is confused and unaware of how he has ended up in these dark woods. Dante soon comes across Italian poet Virgil, who will guide him through the Nine Circles of Hell. Dante Alighieris The Divine Comedy: Inferno portrays Dante s life and adventure through Hell which allegorically represents a much broader subject: man s journey through life to salvation. The Divine Comedy: Inferno begins when Dante is midway through life and he has lost his way. In the starting lines, Dante claims, Midway in our life s journey, I went astray From the straight road and woke To find myself Alone in a dark wood. Dante declares that he has strayed away from the straight road. In Dante s allegory, the straight road symbolizes the right and virtuous path that leads to God. Mankind must be constantly seeking morality, and once man begins to lose sight of this righteousness, they will begin to abandon God s honest path. In order to remain on the right path, man must carefully strive for virtue and be aware of their sins. Research Question: How does pH affect the amount of reactivate when reacted with Hydrogen peroxide on an enzyme? Hypothesis: The higher the pH the higher the reaction with Hydrogen Peroxide on the enzyme will increase. Background Information: An enzyme is a catalyst that speeds up chemical reactions, but it does so with out change the chemical reaction its self. Ph is the concentration of hydrogen ions it ranges from 1 14 when the pH is at 7 it is considered neutral. Water has a pH of 7 which is neutral on the pH scale. In this lab we will be experimenting to be how the different number of pH effect the rate the enzyme reacts. Since water is neutral at 7 we have a hypothesis that its amount of form inside the test tube should be higher or have more form then something that is more acidic, which means is pH is lower than 7. The amount of enzyme and the amount of concentration substrate should be equal since it s an equally balanced formula and you can not make more then what you put in that means if the substrate concentration increases then the enzyme activity should also increase. We will be using hydrogen peroxide which is a liquid with strong oxidizing properties to test are hypothesis. Because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. The Four Ws Of Power In Shakespeare s Tempest The Four W s of Power Power is an incredibly complicated, yet simple mechanism people take advantage of, and it essentially defines every interaction between anyone. None of it is simple to understand, and both power and control can be expressed in vastly different ways. The four W s are the four most common ways power is demonstrated or obtained, and there are real world examples, and even examples in Shakespeare s Tempest that demonstrate these W s being used. Now what are the four W s? The first W is to control when an interaction begins. The person who begins an interaction demonstrates that they are in charge. In Shakespeare s Tempest, this is demonstrated incredibly obviously in the conversations between Prospero, and Ariel, Prospero s spiritual servant. Come away, servant, come. I am ready now. Approach my Ariel. Come. (Shakespeare, Act 1, Sc. 2, Line 222 223). Almost every single time Ariel appears in the play, he is being summoned. This shows Prospero s power over Ariel by showing that he can begin the interaction whenever he wants. Another potential way this could demonstrate power is if the conversation is hesitated. If no words are being said and if no action is being done, it is the person that is most comfortable in this silence and stillness that demonstrates power. The next of the four W s is who. Controlling who someone has power over is just as, if not more important to maintaining control as any of the other 3 points. In Shakespeare s Tempest, Prosperous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
