Sophocles Antigone And MLK Letter From Birmingham Jail
The fight for the good life begins with a single event. A word out of turn, an act of protest and
overall, a continuous support of ones morals. Throughout their life, one is ingrained with morals
up until the final breath they take. Antigone violates Creon s edict and fights for the rights of her
brother Polyneices and goes against the word of the law. Martin Luther King Junior (MLK) fights
against racial inequality and lobbies racial views with acts of civil disobediences. Both Antigone
and MLK acted against laws they believed to be unjust. Their own life experiences and the morals
they grew up with influenced where the fine line of right and wrong stands. In Sophocles Antigone
and MLK s Letter from a Birmingham Jail, I am going to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Within Letter from a Birmingham Jail, MLK describes the four step plan one must follow to
carry on a nonviolent campaign. Antigone s actions throughout Antigone carefully mimic those
steps. Throughout the story you can consider Antigone s actions to be part of a nonviolent
campaign. MLK says that, In any nonviolent campaign there are four basic steps: collection of
the facts to determine whether injustices exist; negotiation; self purification; and direct action
(paragraph six). Antigone determined there was an injustice committed when Creon s edict
decreed that no one would be able to bury her brother Polyneices or they face a punishment by
death. Antigone finds this to be an injustice, when she asks for help from her sister Ismene she
says, ...And now you can prove what you are: A true sister, or a traitor to your family. (Antigone
26 27). Once captured by the Sentry she negotiates with Creon, attempting to appeal to him so
he is able to understand her reverence for the dead is what god wants (lines 355 420). Within self
purification Antigone undergoes strong emotions that could be alluded to feelings of suicide and
depression. All she wants is to bury Polyneices and not let this injustice go unnoticed. She is
willing to go to great lengths to fight for what she believes in and the extent she goes to stand up
for what she believes is the act of self purification MLK talks about. Her direct action is

An Analysis of Political Elitism Essay
An Analysis of Political Elitism
It is easy to believe that the middle class working individual, whether he or she be white collar or
blue collar, wields little political power except for during an election. It is also easy to think that
we don t have true democracy; political representation elected by the people, for the people, and
controlled by these people. This is an ideology that is often worn out. Instead, these elected
representatives are controlled by political Г©lites: high ranking political gladiators , the media,
lobbyists, and, though it may not seem evident, big business. It is, in essence, commonly believed
by most. Some reasons why political Г©lites at times dominate government and who these groups
are will be examined in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a sociological point of view, elitism deals with class structures. Marx describes these class
structures and what makes certain individuals High Class or important . The separation of
ownership from the management and control of industry (Penguin Books, 1994, p.58). Marxists
see political Г©lites as bad guys theoretically, it is because they represent a small portion of the
population and are believed to control most of the political power and money. However, Plato s
Republic offers a different standpoint. In his work, political Г©lites are seen as good guys wise,
virtuous, and knowledgeable. It is difficult to define elitism, however. The above definition, first
and foremost, deals with financial status. What s more, Plato s opinions and definitions of elites are
blatantly out of date. Though political Г©lites are predominately high class and wealthy, it does not
explain interest groups and lobbyists. The men and women in these groups are, on the whole, not
particularly rich or important . What makes them truly important or powerful is that they alter
public opinion (The media works in the same way, however this will be discussed later). The idea
that elites shape public opinion applies to all elites as well. Not to mention the fact that the
majority of Canadians have negative attitudes toward political elites. As a common sense
definition we see the actual people who are elites as fat cats : Rich, privileged, with no concern for

Teamwork Is Essential For Business Success
Introduction: Teams: A group whose individual efforts result in a performance that is greater
than the sum of individual efforts (Loura ,lecture slides). The team has joint, specific collective
work products such as experiments, reports, products, etc. An example can be your course work
based on a team based project (David Knights, Hugh Willmott, 2007, p.120).The question arise is
that is teams are important to the organisations; the answer is yes; because organisations are
much more likely to perform well when their people work effectively as a team. This is because
a good team creates unity where the together effect of the team is greater than the sum of the
individual efforts. In addition to that working together in a team can apply individual
perspectives, experiences, and skills to solve complex problems and also creating new solutions
and ideas that may be beyond the scope of any one individual. Teamwork is essential for business
success: The adoption of teams has become essential to successful organizations of different kinds
and sizes.Teams advantage associations by consolidating individuals who can accomplish
objectives speedier and more viably through coordinated effort than can people working alone. In
1999, almost 50% of all U.S. associations utilized teams, and now days they are ordinary in
businesses going from car assembling to human services and money related administrations. What
works in teams is as a team employee can do different tasks very

The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia
The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia
Athena resolves the conflicts of the Oresteia with an ambiguous judgment that seems to satisfy all
parties involved. However, in any conflict, at least one party must make sacrifices to work toward a
resolution. Athena achieves her paradoxical result by misleading Apolloto think that he has
received total victory in judgment and by offering compensatory powers to the Erinyes, thus
creating an illusion of satisfaction for all amidst a reality of compromise.
Athena first addresses Apollo s argument of the superiority of paternity, but she allows compromise
by never fully admitting that Clytemnestra s murder was morally justified. Initially, Athena
announces, I approve the male in all things... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Orestes departs without a judgment of justice, the Erinyes nonetheless cry out, I am
bereft of honor, unhappy one! (Eumenides 780). On the surface, it appears that Athena s
judgment, by granting greater importance to paternity and the male gender roles of Apollo and
Orestes, has compromised the honor of the female Erinyes, who were acting on behalf of the
significance of Clytemnestra s maternity. Athena replies by saying, In all justice I promise you
shall have a seat and a cavern in this righteous land, (Eumenides 804 805). Here, Athena offers
the Erinyes justice, which she denied Orestes. This offer convinces the Erinyes to change their
ancient ways to become part of the newer Olympian order by serving as protecting goddesses of
Athens. This agreement parallels one of the main themes of the Oresteia: just as justice
progresses from a system of blood guilt to a more civilized trial system, so the Erinyes progress
from the old generation of earth gods to become a part of the new Olympian order.
Athena herself participates in the judgement not as an unbiased arbiter of justice, but as a
participant in the conflict who compromises and gains advantage from the consequences of her
judgment just as Apollo, Orestes, and the Erinyes did. Athena judges with the interest of Athens,
her city, in mind. When her judgment releases Orestes, he promises that if they [his descendants]
always honor this city of Pallas with the spear of allies,

The peace ballot is the most valuable source as it is simply so extensive and balances any
anomalous results, compared to say, 400 Oxford students. Their representation is also useful as
it the public s opinion just before the Rhineland re occupation. So in this case shows that there
was already a majority in favour for using force, if necessary, even though nothing like the Rhine
had happened yet. Between 1936 and 1938 the public s sentiment seemed to change. While
5,000 supporters gathered outside 10 Downing street for Chamberlain, 16,000 were
demonstrating at Trafalgar Square, after Munich. The mass media reported the supporters but
not the protesters. This bias which is also shown to journalists such as Norman Ebbut could be
the reason why public opinion started to sway on such a scale, so late. If Chamberlain did have
public support, other options to appeasement would have been more realistic. The censorship of
Ebbut s writings and his withdrawl from Berlin, which is reciprocated through the majority of
mass media, is an important source as it would mean that Baldwin and Chamberlain would not
have the public support to rearm in the early to mid part of the 30 s. Disproving this, though, Sir

LENIN
Lenin was one of the leading political figures and revolutionary thinkers of the 20th century, who
masterminded the Bolshevik take over of power in Russia in 1917, and was the architect and first
head of the USSR.
Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov was born in Simbirsk on the Volga River on 22 April 1870 into a well
educated family. He excelled at school and went on to study law. At university, he was exposed to
radical thinking, and his views were also influenced by the execution of his elder brother, a
member of a revolutionary group.
Expelled from university for his radical policies, Lenin completed his law degree as an external

When Lenin fell ill and died, Trotsky was easily outmanoeuvred by Stalin. In 1927, he was thrown
out of the party. Internal and then foreign exile followed, but Trotsky continued to write and to
criticise Stalin.
Trotsky settled in Mexico in 1936. On 20 August 1940, an assassin called Ramon Mercader, acting
on Stalin s orders, stabbed Trotsky with an ice pick, fatally wounding him. He died the next day.
STALIN
One of the most powerful and murderous dictators in history, Stalin was the supreme ruler of the
Soviet Union for a quarter of a century. His regime of terror caused the death and suffering of tens
of millions, but he also oversaw the war machine that played a key role in the defeat of Nazism.
Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili was born on 18 December 1879 in Gori, Georgia, which was
then part of the Russian empire. His father was a cobbler and Stalin grew up in modest
circumstances. He studied at a theological seminary where he began to read Marxist literature. He
never graduated, instead devoting his time to the revolutionary movement against the Russian
monarchy. He spent the next 15 years as an activist and on a number of occasions was arrested and
exiled to Siberia.
Stalin was not one of the decisive players in the Bolshevik seizure of power in 1917, but he soon
rose through the ranks of the party. In 1922, he was made general secretary of the Communist
Party, a post not considered particularly

WAT Utilitarianism
OBESITY AND WAT METABOLISM
Overview of WAT It was previous thought that WAT is only an energy storage facility. Research
has also shown that WAT aids in the homeostasis of lipids and provides a buffering system
postprandial. Postprandial, adipocytes uptake fatty acids while suppressing the release of non
esterified fatty acids into circulation. This action becomes extremely important when buffering no
longer takes place due to storage limits of the adipocytes. The following elevated concentrations of
triglycerides, fatty acids and inappropriate location storage, including liver, skeletal muscle and
pancreatic beta cells leading to metabolic complications (Frayn 2002, Virtue and Vidal Puig 2008).
Endocrine organ Research has shown that WAT has endocrine capabilities, including, secreting a
number of protein hormones and signals known as adipokines. There is evidence that shows that

1994). Leptin is secreted primarily by adipocytes, proportionally to fat cell mass, and contributes to
energy metabolism. Leptin will affect the energy balance by acting on the brain. Leptin can activate,
directly or indirectly, specific centers in the hypothalamus to decrease food intake, to increase any
energy expenditure, to influence the glucose, lipid metabolism, and alter neuroendocrine function
(Campfield, Smith et al. 1995). Leptin resistance, in regards to obesity, was coined due to the
increased leptin levels with no impact on regulating energy homeostasis. Leptin resistance causes
insulin resistance and the accumulation of lipids is a direct result of the reduction of lipid oxidation
in insulin sensitive organs; shown in preclinical and clinical experiments with obese rodents and
humans. However, the mechanisms that may lead to leptin resistance are still being researched

Descriptive Essay About Hunting
The Hunt My journey begins at 4:00 am on a Friday, waking a minute before my alarm goes off.
It s time to get dressed with warm clothes and gather my hunting gear for the day. I load my
equipment and start my car, anxious to get going. It is the first week of September, the cool
morning air rustling the color changing leaves outside. I hear the sound of distant birds
awakening with a chirp. Fog layers the ground like a blanket to the earth. The season of goose
hunting is upon us in West Michigan. My friends and I have been ready to hunt since the end of
last years season. Wildlife is very active, and I have to stop for deer frequently while driving.
The shining moon is a lantern in the sky, stars are abundant, traffic is scarce, and my stomach is
growling. My arrival time at Jayden s house is perfect, their trailer is loaded, their guns are
prepared, and the weather is beautiful. As I get out of my car and start to unload, Jayden says,
We didn t know if you d make it. I can t miss an opening day goose hunt, I reply with excitement.
Jayden, Spencer, and their dad, Ryan help me load my layout blind and gun into their organized
trailer, then I jump in Jayden s lifted truck and we re off. Our five minute truck ride is mostly
quiet, a few words are said like, did you eat breakfast, and last night I saw the geese land in the
field we re heading to. When we get to the wheat field, we quickly unload everything, and start
dragging our blinds and decoys to the middle of it.

John Locke s Second Treatise On Civil Government
Freedom, a concept essential to the human experience, should have some limitations. In addition, I
will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these
limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle.
There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others.
Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others.
Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to
be under the will or legislative authority of men. If the individual exists in a society, then Locke
theorizes their liberty exists under the legislative power established by consent in the ... Show more

In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of
freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are
perfectly free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way
they like, without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set
by the law of nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of
nature. In Locke s view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and
privileges. Therefore, no individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the
freedom and ability to do so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and
Locke believes that this power is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when
considering the power of the government. For Locke, the power of the government must be limited
to the laws of nature. Once the government starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government
becomes illegitimate.
Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle
s Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative
freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive
freedom, which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the
ideal end is a complete life, full of virtue. This life, full of happiness and friendship, does not exist
to harm or foul to others. Without these limitations, positive freedom would not be

Regarding significant musical movements in history, more specifically the twenty first century, few

the leaders of this revolution was Robert Allen Zimmerman, known by his popular assumed name,
Bob Dylan. Born in 1941 in Minnesota, Dylan grew up the grandchildof JewishRussian immigrants
and had a surprisingly unexceptional childhood. His interest in music became evident in his high
school years when he taught himself basic piano and guitar. From these rudimentary skills
Dylan would build his knowledge and experience in music to his present status as a forefather of

The sight and sounds of the big city opened many new vistas for the young Dylan and he took
advantage of his situation by studying the roots of contemporary rock. He began to listen to the
works of folk pioneers like
Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, and Woody Guthrie. At the same time
Dylan was beginning to perform solo at local Minneapolis night spots such as the Ten O Clock

Onion Pizza Parlor.
During this time Dylan was honing his guitar skills and harmonica work and developing his
famous nasal voice which would become his trademark. Halfway through his college career
Dylan decided it was time for a move. He packed up and moved to New York City with two main
motivations. His primary motivation was to become part of the Greenwich
Village folk music scene which was burgeoning in the city.
His second reason for moving was to meet his idle, Woodie Guthrie, who was in a hospital in New
Jersey with a rare hereditary disease.
Dylan would succeed on both counts. Not only did he meet Guthrie but he became a fixture at his
bedside. As well, Bob Dylan was now a recognizable name among the folk clubs and coffee houses

Overpopulation Is Still The Problem
In the article Overpopulation Is Still the Problem, Alon Tal (2013) claims that overpopulation
remains the number one problem facing the world today and discusses various problems and
possible solutions. Tal unveils the falsely assuring news stories refuting overpopulation as a
problem. He particularly dissects Ellis Erle s assertions, in the New York Times, concerning China
s seemingly magical works of technology. Erle comes to the conclusion that China s amazing
technology has and will always be able to keep them out of any problems regarding overpopulation.
Of course Tal is able to rhythmically rebut Erle s claims by explaining that, Anyone with a
teaspoon of historic sensibilities about the country s environmental history might want to mention
its long litany of famines which occurred precisely because carrying capacities were consistently
outstripped by a growing population . Tal then goes on to explain other problems linked directly to
overpopulation in China like the food crisis from 1958 1961 which led to the starvationof over 20
million people. He also discusses the Chinese one child policy describing it as tough medicine
although the application of the policy was flawed he depicts how it has prevented the next round
of famines. Tal ties the China population problems into the rest of the article which is mainly
about how quickly the world is growing and what we need to do about it. He presents distressing

Particularly, the limitations on the importation of completed motorcycles and high tariff barriers in
a long period contributed to encouraging the formation of domestic motorcycle assembly and

low quality of domestic products, the increasing traffic accidents and environmental pollution, the
rampant infringement of intellectual property rights, the infringement of consumers interests, etc.
Such matters must be continuously regulated to ensure the sustainable development of the industry

Assimilation In The Joy Luck Club
Adaptation is the adjustment to one s surrounding conditions. Many animals experience this
through physical and behavioral changes based on new obstacles they may face in their
environments. They could be surrounded by new species of predatory animals or sources of
food that require a new set of skills. Similarly, this can be experienced by humans as well. When a
person finds themself in a new place they may need to change in order to survive. In Amy Tan s
fiction novel, The Joy Luck Club, immigrant Chinese mothers share their life stories from back in
China, their journies to the states, and the relationships with their American born daughters. They
learn a new language, society and overall way of life. However, assimilation into the American
culturedramatically separates the connection between the mother s and their daughters. The mother
s lost themselves on their way to the United Statesand must deal with the negative realities of their
American born children, and see their daughters drifting further away from their culture. As the
mothers immigrated to the United States, they had undergone identity changes that would separate
themselves from their Chinese cultures. Some identity changes are miniscule, yet left an impact on
the mother s. Adjusting to the expectations set upon them during immigration made them present
their westernized side. Many were reduced to being just students, displaced immigrants, or war
brides. Immigrating women were not viewed as being there

Cost Allocation Method
Cost allocation is a method to determine the cost of services provided to users of that service. It
does not determine the price of the service, but rather determines what the service costs to provide.
It is important to determine the cost allocation of the services, in order to determine a justifiable fee
/charge/tax for those services.
Included in cost allocation are direct, indirect, and incremental costs. Direct costs, or separable

Cost allocating is used in sectors, private and governments, clearly in two different ways. In fact
most of the Universities divide both in two different classes. Government accounting and
Manufacturing Accounting. In the Manufacturing sector, cost allocation accounting can be used in
different manners; Companies allocate costs so that all elements that are part of that cost share the
incurred costs. It is like spreading the costs amongst those that use it. Companies allocate costs
merely to assign responsibility of those costs to either several departments within that company or
to just one department.

Witchcraft In Early Modern Europe
The notion of witchcraft has been around long before the witch trials in Early Modern Europe.
Different cultures have different images and stereotypes on what a witch is and what magical
abilities he or she may possess. Many people however, did not look at these magical men and
women as bad until the Holy Roman Empire began to look negatively on those people who were
different, and opposed the norm set by the elites. Driven by fear, those living under the control of
the Holy Roman Empire would began to blame other people for diabolical actions, or malicious
activities. Women and some men, were tortured and tested in cruel ways in attempt of finding
evidence or gaining a confession that the accused was a witch. Laws about how which were

Before the English Civil War began, the legal system included justices, judges, magistrates, and
lawyers. King James I, according to author Malcolm Gaskill in his works Witchcraft and Evidence
in Early Modern England, had a great influence in the court systems. Before the English Civil
War, the witch trials were broken up in two parts. The first being that a Justice of the Peace
would examine the accused, then the second was an actual trial would occur. In those trials
according to Gaskill, English trials followed common law principles: lay jurors had to be
persuaded by lay witnesses. Many trials during this time period demanded more solid proof before
the accused could be convicted. Gaskill, also writes that the court systems prior to the Hopkins
witch trials, people began to question intangible evidence coming from the accusers and the
witnesses. This shows that before the English Civil War, the courts where yes, being tried for
witchcraft, but the courts were also demanding solid evidence against the accused person. During
the late sixteenth century and early years of the seventeenth century, many trials were being

Coco Chanel Bibliography
Coco Chanel
At the start of the twentieth century, the idea of women in business seemed crazy. In those days,
men held all the positions of power and made all the decisions about money. They believed that a
woman s place was in the home, looking after her children, cooking for her family and managing
the house. If a woman needed to work she could perhaps find a job in a shop or in a factory, but she
had no chance of working as a businesswoman or a banker or a lawyer.
Women s fashions in the US and Europe at that time supported this idea of their position in society.
Fashionable women wore long dresses that almost touched the ground. This made it difficult for
them to drive a car, ride a horse or even walk quickly. As a result, they... Show more content on

The war will be finished by Christmas. But after a few weeks, it was clear that they were wrong.
More and more men left Deauville to go and fight in the French army. Soon the expensive hotels
were changed into hospitals, full of soldiers who had been hurt in the fighting. The rich
Frenchwomen of Deauville saw that it was their duty to help the French army and many of them
took jobs as nurses in the hospitals or did other kinds of war work. But after a few days they
realized that it was impossible to work in their long dresses. They looked around for different
things to wear. They found the answer in Coco Chanel s new shop. Her simple hats, loose jackets
and straight skirts were just what these women needed. They were stylish, but they allowed women
to move around quickly. Coco was soon selling clothes as fast as she could make them.
For the next three years, Coco travelled between her businesses, while the First World War
continued in the north and east of France. By 1916, over three hundred people were working for
her. She soon made so much money that she could pay back Boy Capek all that she had

Blood Transfusion
Blood transfusion is the process of transferring blood from one person, which is the donor, to
another person, which is the recipient. The earliest research of blood transfusion started in the 17th
century, a British physician named William Harvey discovered the circulation and properties of
blood, which then inspired others to operate bloodtransfusions. This led to the first successful blood
transfusionin 1665, which was performed by Richard Lower in England. He managed to save a
severely injured dog by transfusing blood from another dog through a tied artery. The introduction
of blood transfusion made a huge impact on humans, because it plays an important role in saving

Synthetic Biological Engineering Essay
Starting at the earliest of high school levels, students are being taught about biological synthetic
engineering, or being able to create life out of chemicals of varying types. The idea of being able
to create life from just about nothing is something that is becoming popular. While it has its
advantages for scientific purposes as far as medicine is concerned, the fact that the FBI has to be
involved to make sure that the sequences are not being distributed for unlawful purposes, such as
bioterrorism overseas or throughout the United States is a troublesome factor. The sequences

The scientists can build organisms to consume toxic chemicals in water or soil that would not
otherwise decompose. The positive aspects of this synthetic engineering are growing every day.
The United States is just getting its first glimpse of everything these scientists are working to
develop (pbs.org). While there are a great amount of advantages to the developments of
biological synthetic engineering, the disadvantages are a pressing matter as well. As biological
engineering develops, the sequences with which the scientists work are becoming more
complex(pbs.org). The sequences are still simple enough, however, to be followed by just about
anyone who knows things about science. Therefore if they are given to people who are not meant
to obtain them they can be used to create very dangerous objects. The federal government has
spoken about the possibility of bioterrorist attacks and the spreading of diseases that have been
contained but do not actively have cures, such as the bird flu and smallpox. Because of the many
possible uses of the advancement of biological engineering, it continues to be approached with
much caution, for the safety of the American people(pbs.org). Although the work in the labs are
performed with what are called Biosafety Level 1 organisms the safest organisms known, the

What Happened Nina Simone Essay
What happened, Nina Simone by Liz Garbus illustrates the life of Eunice Kathleen Waymon, a
musical child prodigy who journeys through the life of being an entertainer in the music industry.
Garbus argues how fame can negatively affect an entertainer s behavior and can cause depression
and anger. The evidence Liz Garbus uses to support his argument is seen in pictures of Nina
Simone s journal entries and in the interview from her daughter, Lisa Simone. Nina s journal
entries were full of depressed, suicidal thoughts at the time she fell into the limelight during the
Civil Rights movement. As her songs from that time period sparked controversy, she became
depressed as she sang about the oppression of African Americans while still trying to maintain her
career as an artist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

being the comfort in my life to the monster. Lisa witnessed her own mother Nina physically

conveying the behavioral change Nina Simone because of her experiences as an activist and a

When Odysseus and his crew arrive at Circe s abode, she is described as a nymph with lovely

drastically different. The warehouse workers are carefree when they talk when on the other
hand, the office employees need to be more professional when they hold conversations. There

Companies Should Receive Parental Leave
Some companies are approving parental leave, even for dads. Besides the mother, the father
needs to take time off and take care of his wife and newborn. The father should not be required to
go to work if he has to stay up all night with his child. Moreover, he should be eligible to receive
parental leavebenefits.
Currently, there are some companies that have started giving parental leave for dads. Before this
practice, the parent who commonly received paid leave was the pregnant mother and she had to
work 40 hours a week for more than a year. It is important for everyone to get assistance when
they need it, especially a mother who has given birth. Sometimes a father will be fired from his
job because his company does not offer any parental leave. A mother who is working less than 30
hours is now able to get parental leave with full benefits. In addition to mothers and fathers, foster
parents and parents who adopt are also receiving the benefits of parental leave. ... Show more

twelve weeks of unpaid leave. Parents other than the birth mother, such as the father, still cannot

My Passion In My Life Of Theatre As A Theatre
They say we all find something in our lives that means something to us, that exposes who we
truly are, and once we find it, it lights a spark in us that cannot be contained; this thing, this idea
it lights a fire in us that refuses to sizzle down and die away with all the oxygen in the room. It
creates a passion we are obligated by ourselves to pursue and to me that passion is theatre. I cannot
recall a time in my life when theatre was not the most prominent thing in existence. I cannot
recall a time when I told myself, theatre is not for me or that this is all for none. It is my life, my
calling, and my dream all in one. People love to entertain me with thoughts of why I should not
be pursuing this avenue of work, but I somehow find ways float above it all. I know, as an
actress, my limitations are great and I have accepted those; however, I do not, at this point in my
life, believe that theatric acting is my only passion and career option. When I sit in a dark space
with actors in front of me, conveying messages of honesty and life, I find myself entranced by
what is in front of me; it is almost refreshing. I find it astonishing the amount of love, kindness,
truth, and above all passion that pours out from a production onto a stage when presented in front
of an audience.

Metaphysical Conceit in the Poetry of John Donne Essay
Metaphysical Conceit in the Poetry of John Donne
Many of John Donne s poems contain metaphysical conceits and intellectual reasoning to build a
deeper understanding of the speaker s emotional state. A metaphysical conceit can be defined as an
extended, unconventional metaphor between objects that appear to be unrelated. Donne is
exceptionally good at creating unusual unions between different elements in order to illustrate his
point and form a persuasive argument in his poems.
By using metaphysical conceits in A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, Donne attempts to
convince his love (presumably his wife) that parting is a positive experience which should not be
looked upon with sadness. In the first stanza, Donne compares ... Show more content on

The speaker compares a frightful earthquake to the trepidation of the spheres, which is more
powerful than an earthquake, but less harmful. The lovers movement away from one another is
like the motion of the spheres and therefore it should not be feared. Donne uses the astronomical
term sublunary to describe normal love and contrast this type of mundane love to their own.
Theirs is a divine love which is elevated beyond simple physical bonds. When they part, their souls
remain as one without a breach, but an expansion,/ Like gold to airy thinness beat (lines 23 24).
These lines support the idea that their bond does not dissolve, but only changes form.
Near the end of the poem, Donne makes an unlikely comparison between the couple and a
draftsman s compass. This is one of his most famous metaphysical conceits because the two
elements which are being compared appear completely different, and yet, amazingly, Donne is
able to connect them. He explains that his wife is his fixed foot that leans towards him as he
roams and straightens again as he returns, but remains his center. Her firmness is what makes his
circle complete, [a]nd makes [him] end where [he] begun (line 36). The imagery of the circle and
the spheres in this poem solidify the eternity of their love and the knowledge that the speaker will
always return to the place where he began. Donne s comparisons create an image of celebration
rather than mourning.

Snow White And The Huntsman Film Techniques
The film Snow White and the Huntsman depicts the journey between the two main characters
Snow White and Ravenna the evil Queen. Snow White, who is played by Kristen Stewart for

imprisoned by her father s evil second wife played by Charlize Theron, whose now queen. The
Queen also lives in fear of losing of her young appearance and uses the blood of virgins to restore
it. She tests the success of this with the well known mirror on the wall. When the magic mirror
reveals that Snow White is the source of her immortality, the queen seeks to kill Snow White. In
Snow White and the Huntsman many patterns are used like the camera shots of the film,
lighting and color. The pattern of camera shots is seen throughout the movie using close ups
shots and wide range shots. For example, when Snow White fled from the castle and is chased
by the Queen s horsemen into the Dark Forest, there are close up shots of medieval like armor
enforcing the idea that the film is not in modern day and the action of the film will be done with
weapons like swords and axes. Close up shots of Snow White and Ravenna dictates who is in
power and who is not. The shots show Snow White wearing peasant s clothing, whereas the Queen
wears jewelry, expensive clothes and a crown. Wide range shots are shown in film with vast plains,
castles and battles giving a sense of realism to the setting. Lighting is another pattern

The Capitalist Economy Through A Critical Lens
Throughout our Communication Studies, we have examined the capitalist economy through a

From a neo liberalist economic standpoint, the typical prosumer is encouraged to create consumer

Koro realises that throughout the whole time, Paikea was the true leader he had been looking

ancient ones. In the film Koro says You have broken the tapu on this marae, where the old ways

Compare And Contrast Persia And Greece
I chose to use legalism for my vocabulary word from this chapter. Legalism is the political
philosophy which advocates for clear rules and harsh punishments when those rules are broken.
This is all used as a means of enforcing the authority of the state. Persia and Greek city states
were entirely different in certain areas of their happenings. Both of these city states were made up
of Indo European people whose legacy came directly from the first civilizations. Even though they
were similar in their population makeup they were very different when it came to the everyday
happenings in the cities. Persia was a much more sophisticated city than that of Greece. Persia had
many luxuries like a standard coinage, standard taxes, canal linking the Nile and Red Sea,... Show

Greece on the other hand was much smaller with a fraction of the Persian population with around
2 3 million people. Greece was made up of hundreds of small city states and small settlements
while Persia was one absolute monarchy. One way Persia became so powerful was with their
rich agriculture while Greece destroyed all of their own rich farmland by causing deforestation
and soil erosion. One of the biggest differences between these two states and the one I believe is
the most significant was their approach to politics. Persia was controlled by the king and said
king was in charge of all politics. Greece was one of the first places to use a system of
government where the people managed the affairs and what went on in politics. I believe that this
is significant because they both took a completely different approach to

Goldfish Theme
We, as human beings, must be willing to accept people who are different from ourselves. Think
about this quote. What do you think this means? Well, the statement, we, as human beings, must be
willing to accept people who are different from ourselves. Must mean that we have to respect and
accept people with different races, religions and beliefs. A story titles What, Of This Goldfish,
Would You Wish? Talk about a man
named Sergei, who has to accept a little boy for who he is. On
p5 6, L78 87, He tells the kid to shove off. But the boy is slippery, and somehow between saying

house, then Sergei eventually loses it and then ends up killing the boy. Sergei s goldfish
pressures him to use his last wish, try again, and accept the boy for who he is. In Texas V.

Outdoor Public Spaces
A 2 year study conducted by Valentine (2004) examined parental views in regard to children
using outdoor public spaces for play. Through her research Valentine came across parents concern
about child abduction as, 63% of parents believed it was strangers that would carry out child
abduction. Due to this belief, parents were less likely to allow their childthe privileged to play
outdoors as they feared their child would be abducted, which may have resulted in the decline in
outdoor play over the years. However, Gill (2007) argues that a child is more likely to be harmed
by a trusted adult in private rather than a stranger in their community.
To add to this, it can be an advantage for children to play away from adult supervision, for
example playing outdoors without the adult over the child s shoulders constantly disrupting their
play. Through this, a child can obtain independent mobility, in which they can explore the
environment on their terms and create own identities (Armitage, 2004). This could be an
implication for early years practitioners, as part of their job role in early years is to supervise all
the children within the class, therefore adult supervision is needed within the early years when
children are playing outdoors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adults role in play can be an important factor for young children as adults provide children with
opportunities to take part in the play as well as affecting children s play. Adults can affect what a
child may or may not experience through giving permission. Relating this back to young children
playing outdoors in public spaces, the adult may not authorise permission for young children to
play in public spaces. Through this young children will not be able to experience what they would
in a public outdoor space, compared to a closed outdoor

Walmart And Its Impact On Society
People like to think of Walmart as a store with many varieties, because you can get almost anything
for low prices. Although Walmart is an American retail corporation, there are many branches of
Walmart, not only in the United States but also other places around the globe, making it the largest
company by revenue. Because of its variety in products and worldwide locations, Walmart has a
significant effect on society, both economically and most importantly the impact of environmental
issues. Like many other global industries, Walmart has developed strategic ways in the sustainability
of the environment not only for the environmental issue we face, but also a market strategy which
forms a connection between society and businesses.
Walmart is a business founded by Sam Walton and still owned by the Walton family
. The company
was first established in 1962 with the first store opening in Roger Arkansas. Like any thriving
company, it started out as a small business, which was incorporated in 1969 and gradually
became the Walmart we know today. By 1980 Walmart continued to grow with thousands of
stores and sales in billions of dollars, quickly moving to online shopping, and offering its
consumers new means of shopping experiences by the 2000s. Without Sam Walton, all progress
made on Walmart today would not have occurred. Sam Walton said, If we work together we ll

Bishop Charles Mason
BISHOP C.H. MASON
One of the most significant figures in the rise and spread of the modern Pentecostal movement,
Charles Harrison Mason was born September 8, 1866.
Along with his mother he attended the Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Plumerville where the pastor,
Mason s half brother, the Reverend I.S. Nelson, baptized him in an atmosphere of praise and

lay preacher, giving his testimony and working with souls on the mourners bench, especially during
the summer camp meetings.

went only to the white saints. On the first week of April 1914, Mason traveled to the Hot Springs
convention to invoke God s blessings on the newly formed General Council of the Assemblies of
God. He preached to more than four hundred white Pentecostal preachers. By 1917 Church Of God
In Christ congregations were organized in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn. Evangelists were
also at work in Harlem. In 1935 a storefront church was opened at 137th and Lenox Avenue, placing
Bishop Mason s message before the largest urban black population in America.
Despite this new racial separation, Mason maintained a warm fellowship with the white
Pentecostals. He preached in their conventions and maintained a strong fellowship with two
prominent white Pentecostal leaders: A.J. Thomlinson of the Church of God (CG, Cleveland,
Tennessee) and J.H. King of the Pentecostal Holiness Church (PHC, Franklin Springs, Georgia). In
1952, Mason was the elder statesman attending the Pentecostal world Conference at London,

and interracialism. In 1918 some white followers of Mason in Los Angeles were identified as being

Canadian Retail Hardware and Home Improvement Industry Analysis This industry, although more
attractive than the lumber industry, has its own inherent flaws . The Canadian retail hardware and
home improvement industry can be characterized by high degree of rivalry, mainly due to a large
number of players competing over products of low differentiation and incurring high fixed costs.
Furthermore, due to low switching costs, high information, and price sensitivity, buyers are not
loyal and have high bargaining power relative to retailers. Additionally, the medium threat and
power of large new entrants and suppliers adds to the industry s unattractiveness.
Company Overview Dawson was founded in the 1870 s and has remained a private business since
inception. Located in Ontario, Canada, its operations have been focused on three regions: Ottawa,
primarily an urban market, Cornwall, a rural market, and Kingston, partially a resort and partially
an urban market. During the last 3 years Dawson s net sales have increased considerably (21% in
1997; and 38% in 1998) putting great pressure on the way the company finances its working capital
( WK ). This situation is intensified by seasonal sales, typical of the construction industry. In
September of 1998, Dawson pursued a strategy of forward integrating into the

How Roosevelt And His New Deal Prolonged The Great Depression
How Roosevelt And His New Deal Prolonged The Great Depression The traditional view of
Franklin D. Roosevelt is that he motivated and helped the United States during the Great
Depression and was a great president, however, as time has passed, economist historians have
begun analyzing Roosevelt s presidency. Many have concluded that he did not help America during
the Great Depression but instead amplified and prolonged the depression. Jim Powell wrote about
FDR economic policies and did an excellent job explaining Roosevelt s incompetent initiatives.
Roosevelt did not know anything about economics and his advisors made everything worse by
admiring the Soviet Union.

One policy would create jobs and another one would increase taxes. Franklin D. Roosevelt hired
advisors called the Brain Trust. Many of his advisors were graduates from top universities in the
United States, such as Harvard, Yale, University of Chicago, and Columbia. All of his advisors
were successful in their careers as business people or lawyers, leaving one to wonder why they
could not solve the problems of the Great Depression.
The National Recovery Administration was created by Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of the New
Deal policies. The National Recovery Administration increased the prices of manufactured goods. It
hurt the farmers that needed to buy tools and equipment. As they did not have the money to buy the
taxed equipment, they could not do their job. It was a detriment both the consumers and the
companies. New Deal spending was supposed to stimulate the economy, but New Deal taxing
depressed the economy.
The National Recovery Administration was a monopoly controlled by big business. The United

Analyzing the Significance of the Evolution of Aeronautics...
The advancement of air technology during the early twentieth century, brought about by the
initiation of World War One, has posed significant questions about the role and value of aeronautics
in major world tragedies, such as the September 11 Attacks in New York City and Washington
D.C., and the 1991 Air Campaign of the Gulf War: Does the continuous advancement of aeronautics
serve as the true mastermind of such acts of savagery and tragedy? Is the advancement of
aeronautics the culprit responsible for the deaths of the elderly, women, infants, and children?
Aeronautics revolutionized World War One and set the stage for the occurrence of major global
events throughout the twentieth and twenty first centuries.

However, due to their penetrable material and large frame, they did not long withstand the ever
improving period of air warfare, and immediately were replaced with smaller, more durable
aircraft. At the beginning of the war, airplanes did not have the capacity to carry crews, as well
as weapons. If airmen had attempted to carry anything other than the crew on the planes, they
would have carried the severe risk of negatively affecting the performance of the plane, which
would result in detrimental effects on reconnaissance. However, as the war progressed, the idea
of airplanes being utilized merely for reconnaissance purposes was deferred as a result of the rapid
rate of growth in aeronautics. Soon, airplanes were being used to carry crews, weapons, and
military supplies.
Along with the advancement of airplanes came the advancement of strategical tactics used in
order to prevent the primary purpose of airplanes during World War One: reconnaissance. One of
the most significant advancements in aeronautics as a result of the occurrence of World War One
was the arrival of air bombers. The arrival of air bombers occurred after aircrafts finally had the
capacity to carry crews, weapons, and military supplies without the performance of the airplane
being affected. Air bombers were utilized in order to prevent the spying of dispositions by the
enemy. However, one might argue

How Is Walden Relate To Transcendentalism
Henry David Thoreau, a transcendentalist, wrote the masterpiece Walden that helped to shape
transcendentalist literature.
However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so
bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The faultfinder will find faults even in
paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours
even in a poorhouse. (Thoreau 378).
In this moving line from Walden, Thoreau explains how to live and appreciate life to the fullest
extent. Thoreau shows that life can be challenging but always has its good moments and that we
should appreciate those little moments. Thoreau s Walden can be used to relate to today s society,...

We are judged based on wealth, looks, race, status, and education. Thoreau s Walden teaches us
that we must not judge one another based on those things, but based on how well we live our
lives and how much we appreciate them. Thoreau explains even the richest of the rich still find
faults in their lives so he asks us to look only look at the good.
Thoreau views faith as a universal soul in all of us. I do believe he is correct in some ways since all
of God s children are made in the divine image. In Walden, the Catholic faith beliefs can be found
when he says it is not so bad as you are (378). God has blessed us with this life, a life we take for
granted all the time. We see all the bad things as reasons to blame God, but what we should see is
His willingness to allow us free will. God doesn t want the bad, but He allows it because He knows
He can bring about a better good. Just as Thoreau says there is always good around we just have to
find it.
The short verse of Walden sums up many lives including my own. Everyday is a challenge with
school, my faith, friends, and family, but all those things are something I am extremely blessed
with. I find many faults in my life, things that are small and insignificant to the lives of others that
suffer and endure more than I do. Thoreau teaches me a valuable lesson, always be thankful for
what you have and stop

  • 2. Sophocles Antigone And MLK Letter From Birmingham Jail The fight for the good life begins with a single event. A word out of turn, an act of protest and overall, a continuous support of ones morals. Throughout their life, one is ingrained with morals up until the final breath they take. Antigone violates Creon s edict and fights for the rights of her brother Polyneices and goes against the word of the law. Martin Luther King Junior (MLK) fights against racial inequality and lobbies racial views with acts of civil disobediences. Both Antigone and MLK acted against laws they believed to be unjust. Their own life experiences and the morals they grew up with influenced where the fine line of right and wrong stands. In Sophocles Antigone and MLK s Letter from a Birmingham Jail, I am going to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within Letter from a Birmingham Jail, MLK describes the four step plan one must follow to carry on a nonviolent campaign. Antigone s actions throughout Antigone carefully mimic those steps. Throughout the story you can consider Antigone s actions to be part of a nonviolent campaign. MLK says that, In any nonviolent campaign there are four basic steps: collection of the facts to determine whether injustices exist; negotiation; self purification; and direct action (paragraph six). Antigone determined there was an injustice committed when Creon s edict decreed that no one would be able to bury her brother Polyneices or they face a punishment by death. Antigone finds this to be an injustice, when she asks for help from her sister Ismene she says, ...And now you can prove what you are: A true sister, or a traitor to your family. (Antigone 26 27). Once captured by the Sentry she negotiates with Creon, attempting to appeal to him so he is able to understand her reverence for the dead is what god wants (lines 355 420). Within self purification Antigone undergoes strong emotions that could be alluded to feelings of suicide and depression. All she wants is to bury Polyneices and not let this injustice go unnoticed. She is willing to go to great lengths to fight for what she believes in and the extent she goes to stand up for what she believes is the act of self purification MLK talks about. Her direct action is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Analysis of Political Elitism Essay An Analysis of Political Elitism It is easy to believe that the middle class working individual, whether he or she be white collar or blue collar, wields little political power except for during an election. It is also easy to think that we don t have true democracy; political representation elected by the people, for the people, and controlled by these people. This is an ideology that is often worn out. Instead, these elected representatives are controlled by political Г©lites: high ranking political gladiators , the media, lobbyists, and, though it may not seem evident, big business. It is, in essence, commonly believed by most. Some reasons why political Г©lites at times dominate government and who these groups are will be examined in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From a sociological point of view, elitism deals with class structures. Marx describes these class structures and what makes certain individuals High Class or important . The separation of ownership from the management and control of industry (Penguin Books, 1994, p.58). Marxists see political Г©lites as bad guys theoretically, it is because they represent a small portion of the population and are believed to control most of the political power and money. However, Plato s Republic offers a different standpoint. In his work, political Г©lites are seen as good guys wise, virtuous, and knowledgeable. It is difficult to define elitism, however. The above definition, first and foremost, deals with financial status. What s more, Plato s opinions and definitions of elites are blatantly out of date. Though political Г©lites are predominately high class and wealthy, it does not explain interest groups and lobbyists. The men and women in these groups are, on the whole, not particularly rich or important . What makes them truly important or powerful is that they alter public opinion (The media works in the same way, however this will be discussed later). The idea that elites shape public opinion applies to all elites as well. Not to mention the fact that the majority of Canadians have negative attitudes toward political elites. As a common sense definition we see the actual people who are elites as fat cats : Rich, privileged, with no concern for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teamwork Is Essential For Business Success Introduction: Teams: A group whose individual efforts result in a performance that is greater than the sum of individual efforts (Loura ,lecture slides). The team has joint, specific collective work products such as experiments, reports, products, etc. An example can be your course work based on a team based project (David Knights, Hugh Willmott, 2007, p.120).The question arise is that is teams are important to the organisations; the answer is yes; because organisations are much more likely to perform well when their people work effectively as a team. This is because a good team creates unity where the together effect of the team is greater than the sum of the individual efforts. In addition to that working together in a team can apply individual perspectives, experiences, and skills to solve complex problems and also creating new solutions and ideas that may be beyond the scope of any one individual. Teamwork is essential for business success: The adoption of teams has become essential to successful organizations of different kinds and sizes.Teams advantage associations by consolidating individuals who can accomplish objectives speedier and more viably through coordinated effort than can people working alone. In 1999, almost 50% of all U.S. associations utilized teams, and now days they are ordinary in businesses going from car assembling to human services and money related administrations. • 6. The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia Athena resolves the conflicts of the Oresteia with an ambiguous judgment that seems to satisfy all parties involved. However, in any conflict, at least one party must make sacrifices to work toward a resolution. Athena achieves her paradoxical result by misleading Apolloto think that he has received total victory in judgment and by offering compensatory powers to the Erinyes, thus creating an illusion of satisfaction for all amidst a reality of compromise. Athena first addresses Apollo s argument of the superiority of paternity, but she allows compromise by never fully admitting that Clytemnestra s murder was morally justified. Initially, Athena announces, I approve the male in all things... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Orestes departs without a judgment of justice, the Erinyes nonetheless cry out, I am bereft of honor, unhappy one! (Eumenides 780). On the surface, it appears that Athena s judgment, by granting greater importance to paternity and the male gender roles of Apollo and Orestes, has compromised the honor of the female Erinyes, who were acting on behalf of the significance of Clytemnestra s maternity. Athena replies by saying, In all justice I promise you shall have a seat and a cavern in this righteous land, (Eumenides 804 805). Here, Athena offers the Erinyes justice, which she denied Orestes. This offer convinces the Erinyes to change their ancient ways to become part of the newer Olympian order by serving as protecting goddesses of Athens. This agreement parallels one of the main themes of the Oresteia: just as justice progresses from a system of blood guilt to a more civilized trial system, so the Erinyes progress from the old generation of earth gods to become a part of the new Olympian order. Athena herself participates in the judgement not as an unbiased arbiter of justice, but as a participant in the conflict who compromises and gains advantage from the consequences of her judgment just as Apollo, Orestes, and the Erinyes did. Athena judges with the interest of Athens, her city, in mind. When her judgment releases Orestes, he promises that if they [his descendants] always honor this city of Pallas with the spear of allies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Assess the view that appeasement was the only realistic option for British policy towards Germany between 1936 and 1938 The erosion of Neville Chamberlain s# reputation was brought about quickly as his policy of appeasement failed to prevent WW2. The Cato# collective branded him as a criminal in the Guilty men #. Churchill# further reinforced this view telling the commons England has been offered a choice between war and shame. She has chosen shame, and will get war. #. These more orthodox views starkly contrast the reactions of the public and media pre war. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The peace ballot is the most valuable source as it is simply so extensive and balances any anomalous results, compared to say, 400 Oxford students. Their representation is also useful as it the public s opinion just before the Rhineland re occupation. So in this case shows that there was already a majority in favour for using force, if necessary, even though nothing like the Rhine had happened yet. Between 1936 and 1938 the public s sentiment seemed to change. While 5,000 supporters gathered outside 10 Downing street for Chamberlain, 16,000 were demonstrating at Trafalgar Square, after Munich. The mass media reported the supporters but not the protesters. This bias which is also shown to journalists such as Norman Ebbut could be the reason why public opinion started to sway on such a scale, so late. If Chamberlain did have public support, other options to appeasement would have been more realistic. The censorship of Ebbut s writings and his withdrawl from Berlin, which is reciprocated through the majority of mass media, is an important source as it would mean that Baldwin and Chamberlain would not have the public support to rearm in the early to mid part of the 30 s. Disproving this, though, Sir Walter Citrine# in 1935 : There is no alternative left to us now but the applying of sanctions, including the possibility of War .#As he is head of the TUC# it could be argued that he speaks for the ... Should mobile phones be banned in schools LENIN Lenin was one of the leading political figures and revolutionary thinkers of the 20th century, who masterminded the Bolshevik take over of power in Russia in 1917, and was the architect and first head of the USSR. Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov was born in Simbirsk on the Volga River on 22 April 1870 into a well educated family. He excelled at school and went on to study law. At university, he was exposed to radical thinking, and his views were also influenced by the execution of his elder brother, a member of a revolutionary group. STALIN One of the most powerful and murderous dictators in history, Stalin was the supreme ruler of the Soviet Union for a quarter of a century. • 9. WAT Utilitarianism OBESITY AND WAT METABOLISM Overview of WAT It was previous thought that WAT is only an energy storage facility. Research has also shown that WAT aids in the homeostasis of lipids and provides a buffering system postprandial. Postprandial, adipocytes uptake fatty acids while suppressing the release of non esterified fatty acids into circulation. This action becomes extremely important when buffering no longer takes place due to storage limits of the adipocytes. The following elevated concentrations of triglycerides, fatty acids and inappropriate location storage, including liver, skeletal muscle and pancreatic beta cells leading to metabolic complications (Frayn 2002, Virtue and Vidal Puig 2008). Leptin is secreted primarily by adipocytes, proportionally to fat cell mass, and contributes to energy metabolism. Leptin will affect the energy balance by acting on the brain. Leptin resistance, in regards to obesity, was coined due to the increased leptin levels with no impact on regulating energy homeostasis. Leptin resistance causes insulin resistance and the accumulation of lipids is a direct result of the reduction of lipid oxidation in insulin sensitive organs; shown in preclinical and clinical experiments with obese rodents and humans. It s time to get dressed with warm clothes and gather my hunting gear for the day. I load my equipment and start my car, anxious to get going. It is the first week of September, the cool morning air rustling the color changing leaves outside. I hear the sound of distant birds awakening with a chirp. Fog layers the ground like a blanket to the earth. The season of goose hunting is upon us in West Michigan. My friends and I have been ready to hunt since the end of last years season. • 11. John Locke s Second Treatise On Civil Government Freedom, a concept essential to the human experience, should have some limitations. In addition, I will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle. There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others. Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others. Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to be under the will or legislative authority of men. If the individual exists in a society, then Locke theorizes their liberty exists under the legislative power established by consent in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are perfectly free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way they like, without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set by the law of nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of nature. In Locke s view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and privileges. Therefore, no individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the freedom and ability to do so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and Locke believes that this power is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when considering the power of the government. For Locke, the power of the government must be limited to the laws of nature. Once the government starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government becomes illegitimate. Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive freedom, which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the ideal end is a complete life, full of virtue. This life, full of happiness and friendship, does not exist to harm or foul to others. Without these limitations, positive freedom would not be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Halfway through his college career Dylan decided it was time for a move. He packed up and moved to New York City with two main motivations. His primary motivation was to become part of the Greenwich Village folk music scene which was burgeoning in the city. His second reason for moving was to meet his idle, Woodie Guthrie, who was in a hospital in New Jersey with a rare hereditary disease. Dylan would succeed on both counts. Besides the mother, the father needs to take time off and take care of his wife and newborn. The father should not be required to go to work if he has to stay up all night with his child. Moreover, he should be eligible to receive parental leavebenefits. Currently, there are some companies that have started giving parental leave for dads. Before this practice, the parent who commonly received paid leave was the pregnant mother and she had to work 40 hours a week for more than a year. It is important for everyone to get assistance when they need it, especially a mother who has given birth. Sometimes a father will be fired from his job because his company does not offer any parental leave. A mother who is working less than 30 hours is now able to get parental leave with full benefits. My Passion In My Life Of Theatre As A Theatre They say we all find something in our lives that means something to us, that exposes who we truly are, and once we find it, it lights a spark in us that cannot be contained; this thing, this idea it lights a fire in us that refuses to sizzle down and die away with all the oxygen in the room. It creates a passion we are obligated by ourselves to pursue and to me that passion is theatre. I cannot recall a time in my life when theatre was not the most prominent thing in existence. I cannot recall a time when I told myself, theatre is not for me or that this is all for none. It is my life, my calling, and my dream all in one. People love to entertain me with thoughts of why I should not be pursuing this avenue of work, but I somehow find ways float above it all. I know, as an actress, my limitations are great and I have accepted those; however, I do not, at this point in my life, believe that theatric acting is my only passion and career option. When I sit in a dark space with actors in front of me, conveying messages of honesty and life, I find myself entranced by what is in front of me; it is almost refreshing. I find it astonishing the amount of love, kindness, truth, and above all passion that pours out from a production onto a stage when presented in front of an audience. • 32. Metaphysical Conceit in the Poetry of John Donne Essay Metaphysical Conceit in the Poetry of John Donne Many of John Donne s poems contain metaphysical conceits and intellectual reasoning to build a deeper understanding of the speaker s emotional state. A metaphysical conceit can be defined as an extended, unconventional metaphor between objects that appear to be unrelated. Donne is exceptionally good at creating unusual unions between different elements in order to illustrate his point and form a persuasive argument in his poems. By using metaphysical conceits in A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, Donne attempts to convince his love (presumably his wife) that parting is a positive experience which should not be looked upon with sadness. The speaker compares a frightful earthquake to the trepidation of the spheres, which is more powerful than an earthquake, but less harmful. The lovers movement away from one another is like the motion of the spheres and therefore it should not be feared. Donne uses the astronomical term sublunary to describe normal love and contrast this type of mundane love to their own. Theirs is a divine love which is elevated beyond simple physical bonds. When they part, their souls remain as one without a breach, but an expansion,/ Like gold to airy thinness beat (lines 23 24). These lines support the idea that their bond does not dissolve, but only changes form. Near the end of the poem, Donne makes an unlikely comparison between the couple and a draftsman s compass. This is one of his most famous metaphysical conceits because the two elements which are being compared appear completely different, and yet, amazingly, Donne is able to connect them. He explains that his wife is his fixed foot that leans towards him as he roams and straightens again as he returns, but remains his center. Her firmness is what makes his circle complete, [a]nd makes [him] end where [he] begun (line 36). The imagery of the circle and the spheres in this poem solidify the eternity of their love and the knowledge that the speaker will always return to the place where he began. Donne s comparisons create an image of celebration rather than mourning. It appears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through her research Valentine came across parents concern about child abduction as, 63% of parents believed it was strangers that would carry out child abduction. Due to this belief, parents were less likely to allow their childthe privileged to play outdoors as they feared their child would be abducted, which may have resulted in the decline in outdoor play over the years. However, Gill (2007) argues that a child is more likely to be harmed by a trusted adult in private rather than a stranger in their community. To add to this, it can be an advantage for children to play away from adult supervision, for example playing outdoors without the adult over the child s shoulders constantly disrupting their play. Through this, a child can obtain independent mobility, in which they can explore the environment on their terms and create own identities (Armitage, 2004).
