Substance Abuse Treatment For Adolescents Essay
Introduction
Including families in the treatment of substance use in adolescents has been a debate for several
years in the addictions world. Some claim that involving families may hinder the client s ability to
improve due to not being honest, fear, and the lack of relationship one may have with their family
members, specifically parental figures. Adolescents may not be honest with themselves or family
members due to fear of disappointing or fear of punishment. Many providers and policy makers do
not view family member involvement as essential for successful treatment and recovery and see
family as part of the problem rather than part of the solution (Hornberger Smith, 2011). However,
some researchers have found that families are an important resource for young people as they
journey through substance use treatment. The journal article entitled Substance Abuse Treatment
for Adolescents:
How are Family Factors Related to Substance Use Change? discusses the importance in family
involvement in the adolescent treatment process leading to significant decreases in usage. The
article backs up their conclusion with research administered among a number of adolescents and
their Mothers in Quebec, Canada.
Statistics
It is crucial to understand the statistics in youth substance use involvement, to fully understand that
this is a rising issue throughout the world. In 2013, an estimated 24.6 million Americans aged 12
or older; 9.4 percent of the population had used an illicit drug

The Assistant Principal Darin
It is just like any other day for Cathy Hurley, principal of Wylie E. Groves High School. She sat
at her desk, blindly clicking through several emails, her tortoise glasses resting lazily on the tip of
her nose. The sun was hidden behind several thick, grey clouds; it looked like it would snow later.
The thoughtof getting new tires for the upcoming weather briefly crossed her mind when there
was a sudden knock at the door, making her jump. She briefly fixed her glasses and smoothed
down her hair before calling Come in! The assistant principal Darin Wilcox, a stocky babyish man,
poked his head in. Cathy, there s an old man here to see you. He doesn t seem to be the parent of

Well, Mr. Socrates , how can I help you? All my life, I ve pondered questions never expecting an
answer. If I propose a problem or question to someone, they can never seem to get it just right.
Many will leave in a fit of rage, perplexed that I answer my own questions with more that seem to
have no answer. However, in this room with you, in this school, I feel that it s my duty to
demand an answer for the problem I ve come here for today. Cathy sat for a moment in stunned
silence. Boy was this guy playing it up! Who does he think he is? Maybe he actually believes he
s the real Socrates! She thought. And just what exactly is your question, sir? Socrates gave her a
look as fierce as a hawk would give its prey. I don t understand why you let hatred, bigotry,
discrimination run through your school, infecting not only staff but students as well, like the vile
disease it is. This time, a wave of horror and confusion spread across her face. I I beg your
pardon?! I have never heard of such things before, not from students, staff, anyone! I did not decide
to run this school, just to make it a place where students feel unhappy! Kids love the environment

Graphically Representing Data
Within a School Setting
Christopher M. Lightfoot Abstract
This paper examines the ability to graphically display frequency distribution tables that are
represented within a school setting. There are three types of data sets that are interpreted within
two types of frequency distribution tables (see Table 1). The first type of data set that is mentioned
is a discrete nominal data set that is graphically displayed as a bar chart (see Figure 1), which
displays the reoccurrence of each category within the simple frequency table (see Table 2). The
second data type referenced is a discrete ordinal data set that was analyzed through a simple
frequency table. The simple frequency table allows for the conversion of the ordinal data into a pie
chart (see Figure 2), which measures the percentages within a four point Likert Scale (see Table 3).
The final data source is a continuous interval set, which was interpreted through a cumulative
frequency table (see table 4). The cumulative frequency table is graphically represented in Figure 3
as a combination of a histogram (which measures the percentage of class intervals) and scatter
points (to identify the cumulative percentage between all of the class intervals).
Graphically Representing Data
Within a School Setting
The creation of frequency distribution tables allows for the conversion of the data within the set
into a dramatic graphic representation. Research from the

Ilm
Introduction
The goal of the Change Management process is to ensure that standardised methods and procedures
are used for efficient and prompt handling of all Changes, in order to minimise the impact of
Change related Incidents upon service quality, and consequently to improve the day to day
operations of the organisation.
In this report I have outline EMC s main reasons for implementing the Information lifecycle
management (ILM) project, the problems associated with implementing the project and possible
ways to overcome these issues.
In the main body of the report I will give an account of the years leading up to the implementation
of the ILM project. This is an important factor as the industry was in a recession at the time and ...

Before the downturn EMC was capable of making million dollar deals, after the downturn the
market for such deals simply did not exist. While certain surveys show IT spending growing, I
believe most companies will be extremely cautious in increasing their IT spending during 2003, I
do believe there s a bias toward the positive, but no one s willing to commit to increased spending
before they see how the year develops.
The larger companies in the market where not prepared to make such big deals at that time, so
EMC targeted the smaller companies in the market. Two important factors to consider when
selecting a target market segment are the attractiveness of the segment and the fit between the
segment and the firm s objectives, resources, and capabilities.
EMC still expects to invest $1 billion in research and development during 2001, and is investing
heavily in its internal information technology infrastructure and looking for areas where it can
build talent in several strategic areas.
Due to the steps taken above, EMC was perfectly placed to progress in the market. They had built
a sold base during the dot com shakeout without neglecting key resources such are R D, this was
the best decision made by top management during the shake out years. Although money was tight,
top management knew the importance of R D if were to grow into the future. This decision has
aided EMC s move to ILM a great deal.

Confidantes, Marriage, and Friendship in Pride and...
One cannot accomplish much without the help and opinions of people such as their friends,
siblings, or parents. This person, or confidante, must be willing to listen to and provide helpful
thoughts and feedback. In Pride and Prejudice, a novel by Jane Austen, Elizabeth Bennet is a
heroine who is in desperate need of a confidante. Jane Bennet, Elizabeth s kind and honest sister,
becomes that person Lizzy needs when she is feeling flustered. Jane perfectly fits the criteria of a
confidante because she is optimistic and sanguine, in which she can provide Elizabeth a different,
more positive, approach to her problems. The author uses Jane Bennet to portray a paradigm of a
young lady in England during that time period, where marriages depended... Show more content on

Although it may seem to the reader that Jane is idealistic or dishonest, she really says what is on
her mind. Jane truly believes all people are good spirited and that she will never be deceived by
anyone. In this way, the author uses Jane Bennet to give the reader a different perspective of a
certain character in the story: while Elizabeth is always criticizing the many characters in this
novel, Jane is there to deliver a contradictory statement about those characters. Mr. Wickham
reveals to Elizabeth that Mr. Darcy had prevented him from joining the ministry by refusing to
supply the money Darcy s father had intended to provide for Wickham. Upon hearing these
revealing statements about Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth is appalled and outraged at how selfish a man
can be. Elizabeth then relates to Jane about what she had discovered about Mr. Darcy but Jane
provides her and the reader with a different, more optimistic point of view: It is impossible. No
man of common humanity, no man who had any value for his character, could be capable of it.
Can his most intimate friends be so excessively deceived in him? Oh! no (Austen 74). Elizabeth s
decision to believe Mr. Wickham originates her prejudice towards Mr. Darcy into the novel.
However, in the end, the reader finds out that Jane had actually been correct in that Darcy can
never have done such a horrible thing and that he had actually given Wickham the money his father
left for him. Jane Bennet is the perfect example of what a

Controversy With Whale-Hunting Trips
The article Iceland Tourism Courts Controversy with Whale Hunting Trips , written by Tom
Mackenzie and Ed Kiernan talks about how one of the richest men in Iceland, Kristjan Loftsson
owns the only commercial fin whaling company in the world. I believe there is room for both
whale hunting and whale watching as long as whalehunting is kept limited. There should be a
tracking system where each company should be given the annual quota and if they go over,
penalize them with a charge. Whale watching is important because as Masson from the article
said, I think 99 percent of the tourists who come to Iceland, they are coming here to experience
wild nature at its best . People like watching whales because of wild nature and they enjoy watching
them in the water. The reason... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, by doing this it would balance both whale hunting and whale watching and I do not
feel people then would have any problem because they know that whale hunting cannot completely
stop as so many people would lose their jobs but this would at least make it better for people who
like whale watching. By limiting the amount of whale hunting, owners of fin whaling company like
Kristjan Loftsson might lose some profit on the year but at least no one will be against them if
they do not over hunt the whales. As Kristjan Loftsson believes the world has wrongly turned
against him , just shows that he does think of other people s opinions on whale hunting and if they
set a quota to a reasonable number then people won t have a problem and he would not think that
the world is against him as he thinks now. People all around the world will not question the owners
and they will still enjoy watching the whales for wild

Technology In The Fertile Crescent
Technology, in the form of weapons and transport, provides the direct means by which certain
peoples have expanded their realms and conquered other peoples (Diamond 241). In the modern
world, weapons seem to define the outcomes of wars. Technology motivates the daily lives of
people internationally. Throughout history, weapons and technologyhave led to major conquests and
growths of human civilizations.
After 11,000 B.C., technology in the Fertile Crescent developed immensely. Inventions including
flint blades for harvesting, baskets and containers for collecting crops, and underground storage pits
made it possible for food production to occur. These cumulative developments constituted the
unconscious first steps of plant domestication (Diamond 111). Utilizing the further geographical
advantage of rich soil, people of the Fertile Crescent leapt into the world of food production. Food
production, in turn, yielded large food surpluses stored in baskets, allowing the society to move
toward a sedentary lifestyle and a more organized, specialized community. Simple agricultural tool

Analysing Ethical Issues of National Kidney Foundation
Case Ethical Analysis:
National Kidney Foundation of Singapore (A) Anatomy of a Crisis
Wee Beng Geok and Yvonne Chong
Overview
When the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Singapore came under the scrutiny of the nation
back in the July of 2005, it was evident that there was going to be major changes in the local social
welfare scene.
As a non profit charitable organisation, the main aim of NKF was not only to look after the needs
of its patients but encompassed drawing resources from society and moving towards changing and
improving society as a whole.
In this report, we focus on the issues that the top management faced and how this entire saga has
affected not only NKF but also its numerous internal and external stakeholders. ... Show more

NKF s management might seem to not have taken donors opinions into consideration and hence
portrayed the image of mismanaging donations. However, it would be unfair to not point out how
not all stakeholders are equal and each is entitled to different considerations. Expectations differ
across stakeholders and decisions made would more often than not lead to a conflict of interest but
following the principle of utilitarianism, it is up to the discretion of the organisation to balance their
decisions and decide how best to appease the majority. An example would be NKF s dilemma of
whether to disclose the salary of the CEO; not doing so would result in accusations of not being
transparent while disclosing it might lead to criticism of charity leaders being too highly paid. The
interests of the CEO and the donors are at conflict.
Alternative Theoretical Perspectives
Having received the National Youth Excellence Award in 1976 and practiced as a lawyer for 6
years2, Durai could be seen as a leader with strong self efficacy and self esteem. He valued new
challenges more than conformity and challenged society s perspective of managing a charity. His
refreshing approaches to branding and fund raising led to staff costs incurred by the many fund
raising activities to be higher than that of staff cost for dialysis treatment, which was not on the
same page as what external stakeholders (donors and society) would expect from a charity.

Sleepless In Seattle Plot Analysis
Theme The theme of a movie is an idea, issue, or concept that a writer wants to express through a
story; a message or meaning that the audience is meant to take away from a movie.
(Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014) The theme of Sleepless in Seattle is best stated by Tom Hanks in the
beginning of the film, and I ll grow a new heart. (Arch, 1992) Can true lovehappen for the second
time? The theme of this movie is about answering this question. Will Sam find love again?
Acting Style When you think of acting style in movies, you are looking for how the actors/actresses
represent the characters for the story. Tom Hanksis such a multitalented actor, but in Sleepless in
Seattle, he expertly plays a heartbroken widower and the father of Jonah. Meg Ryan is the
ultimate hopeless romantic and plays her role as Annie to perfection. Bill Pullman is wonderful
in his role as a skilled business professional, who is Annie s fiancГ©, Walter. Sam is Mr.
Sleepless in Seattle. Annie has overwhelming compassion for Jonah and Sam after hearing their
story on the radio station. Maybe Annie felt sorry for Jonah after hearing him asking for a new
wife for his dad, or maybe it was just magic and fate that made her fall in love with Sam before
even meeting him. Walter is calm and understanding when his engagement to Annie ends because
Annie says she just has to meet Sleepless in Seattle

The Theme Of Communication In Constellations By Nick Payne
In his play Constellations, Nick Payne expresses that love is not always sunshine and rainbows. An
unexpected love story about a woman named Marianne who is a quantum physicist, and a man
named Roland who is a beekeeper. After they casually met at a barbecue, they could not resist
beginning an intimate relationship. Communicationis at the heart of this play, especially because in
the various multiverses each scene repeated but slightly altered. This portion of the play highlights
the way they communicate in a way that either benefits their relationship or creates problems.

In hindsight any signs of effort is very import in any relationship, and many times we over
respond because we neglect to see things from someone else s point of view. For example, in one
scene Roland shows rappid aggression towards Marianne because of a misunderstanding. During
one of the scenes they show up at Marianne s apartment and she asks Roland to leave. Although,
Roland was expecting Marianne to invite him to stay over at her apartment as they arrived,
something completely different happened. Marianne says, I m not asking you to understand, I m
asking you to leave Roland then says, Bit fucking rich, isn t it? The play made me realize that
starting conversations too aggressively will blow the situation out of proportion. Although, we don

Analysis Of Rancho Solano Preparatory School
Introduction
Rancho Solano Preparatory School (RSPS) was founded in 1954 and for decades was highly
praised by parents as being family oriented and community centered. In 2007, the school was sold
to Meritas Family of Schools and within the subsequent seven years changed its strategy to one with
international interests. Other changes in the school were not so positive and included an increased
lack of transparency with parents and teachers, which resulted in a gradual disconnect with the
community leading to anger and distrust on the part of parents. To address these issues, this paper
will identify the three major organizational subsystems and recommend changes to the subsystem

The RSPS website reveals an organizational structure that looks to be very bureaucratic with a
significant number of administrators and directors of various departments. The employee count for
RSPS is also much higher than competing schools such as #1 ranked private school Brophy College
Preparatory with 1,275 students and 150 staff (8.5 students per employee) ; #2 ranked private
school, Northwest Christian School with 1,410 students and 92 employees on one campus(15
students per employee); and # 4 ranked private school, Xavier College Preparatory with 1,163
students and 155 employees on one campus (7.5 students per employee). Comparatively, RSPS has
1,137 students and 200 employees (5.7 students per employee) (Top 10 Arizona Companies: Private
Schools, 2014). This is not a horizontal organization that is becoming more and more common in
today s business world. The teacher subsystem should be changed into an adaptive organization or
organic design (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). In the adaptive design, authority would be
decentralized, with fewer rules and procedures, wide spans of control, shared tasks, more teams and
task forces, and more informal and personal coordination (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). The
planned change would result in improved interpersonal connection with students, their parents, and
other teachers. Administrators, while serving an important function would not be the focus. In the
case of RSPS, one could argue that administrators have

Document #2 talks about the people in charge. This document is positive because Genghis Khan
had a very large empire and if someone ran away the person in charge of them would be
punished, so Genghis Khan found a way to maintain a good order for example he would be in
charge of maybe ten people and those ten would be in charge of maybe another ten and so on.
Document #6 talks about people adapting to the Mongol Empire and the benefits of the silk

the problem was that the deliverers kept getting murdered and the silk stolen so the mongols lent a
hand and created the Silk Road where people could walk without any thought about thieves or

Internal Auditing As An Important Part Of Auditing...
I. Introduction.
Internal auditing as an important part of auditing supervision system attracts significant attention in
currently business environment, especially after several accounting scandals such as Enron and
WorldCom. With the continuous improvement of business environment and regulatory
requirements, internal auditing undergoes a progressive process, from the simple to complex, from
the basic to advanced.
The Institute of Internal auditors (IIA) defines the internal auditing as follows: Internal auditing is
an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity design to add value and improve an
organization s operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a
systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management,
control, and governance process (Burnaby and Hass 2011). Internal auditing has the obligation to
provide the board of directors, the audit committee, the CEO and CFO, and stakeholders with an
independent report on whether the corporation are under effectiveness internal control, whether the
corporation under appropriate risk, and whether corporation operating and governance meet the
established goal.
The scope of the internal audit is board and includes the concept of risk management, internal
control, corporate governance and compliance with laws and regulations (Zaharia, Dragne, and
Tilea 2014). Generally, internal audit has different types due to the different service content.

Adam Liszt As A Principal Figure In The Romantic Movement
Liszt was not only a principal figure in the Romantic Movement but also a composer of
enormous originality and arguably the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. A controversial
character, he was attacked for his innovations, talent and flair by his jealous rivals. As a
composer, he radically extended the technique of piano writing, extended the harmonic
language, and later developed chromatic harmony which led eventual breakdown of tonality
revolutionizing the music of the era. As a pianist Liszt was the first to give complete solo
recitals, and he did a great deal to encourage the performance of music by Bach, Beethoven,
Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner, and Robert Schumann by transcribing their works for piano and
playing them in his concerts at a time when they were insufficiently appreciated. He also helped
younger composers, and he taught a number of pupils who themselves became famous
virtuosos. When Franz was five years old; he was already attracted to the piano and was soon
given lessons by his father, Adam Liszt. He began to show interest in both church and Gypsy
music. Franz began to compose at the age of eight and at only nine years old, he made his first
public appearance as a concert pianist. He gave several concerts in Vienna, with great success.
Liszt moved with his family to Paris in 1823. Liszt s Paris debut on March 7, 1824, was
sensational. Between 1830 and 1832, Liszt met three fellow composers who were to have a great
influence on his artistic life, Hector

An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section 10 Essay
In Hume s 1748 publication: An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding , Section 10 is titled
Of Miracles. This section is an extended argument against the veracity of miracles. In response to
Hume, Richard Price published Four Dissertations in 1768. In Dissertation IV, The Importance of
Christianity, the Nature of Historical Evidence and Miracles, Price outlines a Bayesian argument
against Hume s conclusions that miracles cannot ever occur.
My thesis is that Price s Bayesian argument, arguably the first use of Bayes Theorem to challenge
another published argument fails. It fails on three fronts: it mischaracterizes Hume s argument as
non conditional; it improperly employs a Bayesian model test case of newspaper reporting; and it
does not consider the effects of the preliminary seeding of probabilities for its Bayesian model of
miracles.
1.0 Hume s Argument Against Miracles
Hume s argument is multi faceted but most commentators (Millican, Earman) agree that the key
summary occurs in paragraph 13.
The plain consequence is (and tis a general maxim worthy of our attention) That no testimony is
sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind, that its falsehood would be
more miraculous, than the fact, which it endeavours to establish... (E 10.13)

MH) given a true testimony about that event (True Testimony: TT) and Hume argues that it must be

Compare And Contrast Early Birds And Night Owls
I am an early bird give me a job:
Well it is very essential that all of us drive out a balance between our biological clock and the
ticking clock, that decides our day to day activities. However, before this, we first need to identify
our biological clock.
There are too many comparisons made between early birds and night owls. You may find some,
that advocate for early birds; while, some say night owls are blessed with additional talents.
However, I believe that both these sections of people, belonging to different chronotype, possess
different potentialities. However, when they are working at their peak hours where they can remain
completely alert and energetic; only then they can perform at highest efficiency levels.

Montresor s Attitude Towards Fortunato

revenge on Fortunato by luring him to his death within the catacombs. It s clear by the evidence that
Montresor doesn t have any regret or a change of heart towards Fortunato during the story. First, I
will explain, Montresor s thirst for revenge is displayed very quickly within the first sentence and
he plans to act on it! THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he
ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge. The quote above shows that Montresor is seeking to

The Power Of Not Parenting Ray Bradbury Analysis
The Power of Not Parenting 2.0
Ray Bradbury uses imagery and characterization to allude to the fact that the use of tech as a
supplementary parenting technique can cause child development problems in many forms.
In the beginning of the story Bradbury uses imagery like ...you could feel the prickling fur on your
skin...your mouth was stuffed.... Which gives the impression that the difference between reality,
and technology are unrecognizable. The border between ethical enjoyment and living in an
artificial reality is washed away because of these types of technological advances that caused
humans, especially the Hadley family, to pass the line where technology should not mess with a
human s mental emotions, however a remnant will remain where ethical enjoyment met its
boundary which is signified in the text in the form of, ...we bought this house, so we would not
have to do anything That is just it. I feel like I do not belong here. Which shows how destructive
this perceived toy and it s consumer friendly gadget counterparts can be if it can cause this much
stress, and has the possibility of pulling families apart, especially where it hurts. Which in this case
is at the seams, the love factor of a connected family is missing in this scenario, so much that the
kids eventually plot against and supposedly kill their parent, just to get more time to play with this
insidious invention.

The Impact Of Media On Body Image
Introduction Over the time, the concept of body image is influenced by external factors as
culture, society norms, especially with the development of modern social media, it has grown
up to be an important element in affecting the perception of body image to shape the body
image. The influence of mass media may be related to the social comparison process of
appearance in female and male. The ideal media body image, it is easy to compare in everyday
life, and that will result to dissatisfaction with people s body size. On the one hand, Orbach
(1987) briefly posted that the western media produced a picture tender the ideal female body as
thinness, curvy, free of unwanted hair, deodorized, perfumed and clothed . The pictures they
produced are long way from the normal women s life. On the other hand, numbers of studies
demonstrate that not only are women dissatisfied with their body, but also men indicated that
they dissatisfied with the body. there is a gap between the ideal size in the magazine and
themselves. in order to reduce the gap, people often use the methods of diet or exercise to
achieve the target. it was not always an advantaged approach for the purpose, with the appearing
of discorded eating pattern like anorexia and bulimia, there no doubt that the power of media has
been changing people daily life and social norms. Thus, this research will examine that how the
social media shapes the body image in presenting both female and male s ideal , and the

The First Signs Of Music Therapy Essay
The use of music for therapy has been seen to exist for almost as long as the start of therapy itself.
At around 400 B.C., Hippocrates, a Greek physician known for his tremendous contributions to
modern medicine, was shown to be the first human to use music as a way to therapeutically treat
mental patients. Since then, records of other civilizations such as the Egyptians, Arabians, and
even the Native Americans show signs of the use of music in medicine. This form of therapy was
said to help align the soul and the body together. However, it was not until the 18th century that
researchers have studied how music affects the nerves themselves (Gouk, 2004). The first signs of
music therapy used in the modern world were predominantly in the United Kingdom after World
War I (Degmecic, 2005). Musicians played to war veterans suffering from both mental and physical
trauma to help alleviate their pain. As these veterans were seen having positive responses to the
music played, doctors hired more musicians to help play at veteran hospitals. Seeing the positive
feedback and recovery of the veterans prompted the use of music therapy to become an actual
academic curriculum taught in college courses. Currently, the leading organization that focuses
primarily on music therapy is the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) which was formed
in 1998. Their team of music therapists has helped countless of patients improve both their physical
and emotional help with the use of music. Music

Immediately after marrying he took command of a 38,000 men army and completely won the war
in one year. His quick victory was mainly owed to his military strategy which was to start his attack
with very few of his men, seek the weakest point of the enemies army and focus all attacks on this
point. After his quick victory Napoleon was promoted to lieutenant in 1798 and to captain in 1799.
Since France was now a democracy an entirely new government needed to be formed, so a
convention was held in Paris to form the new Government. When protesters of the new leaders got
violent and tried to storm the convention, Napoleon was called in to protect the leaders. He used a
technique known as a whiff of grapeshot which involved using cannons at point blank range. The
new government known as the directory had a 3 part consulate, Napoleon was of course the first
consulate. Maximillion Robespierre was set to take control of the French Government.
Maximillion was set on expanding France, he thought to do that all his enemies must be defeated.
So in May of 1800 he sent Napoleon with 38,000 men to Invade the Egyptian Mamelukes who
were quickly defeated. As the French swept through Egypt they came to an army in Abu Quir that
was allied with the British. This was not expected so Napoleon faced his first defeat. Napoleon with
his remaining army quickly retreated to a friendly nation, and remained there to build strength. He

Feasibility Study
Phase 1: Research
Good research is the key to success in property development. We start out by arming ourselves with
all the information needed to determine which locations have the potential to make money or not.
In this phase we evaluate potential suburbs, neighbourhoods and sites, do a preliminary market
study, put together a preliminary budget, carry out a preliminary financial analysis, prepare a
timing analysis and review the political climate and the council approval process.
Here are the steps we will evaluate in detail during the course:
a)Become expert in at least one area probably starting with the suburb where you live.
b)Decide what kind of development suits your goals and capability.
c)Gather information from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this phase we finalise the acquisition of the site, get any required government approvals and

Psychopathy In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Within the streamlined boundaries of today s society, many find amenity in discussing their unrest
with those who can lessen it or resolve it completely. Similarly, when the burden is too great, those
with apprehensions about their mental state are welcomed into psychiatric facilities designed to
rehabilitate their patients to their full potential. Psychopathyis defined by a select grouping of
symptoms while the classification of psychopaths has changed substantially over the last 60 years,
largely by Dr. Robert Hare. Randle McMurphy, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest s protagonist
displays a combination of psychopathic tendencies and inclinations of those not needing psychiatric

get acquainted on (Kesey 73). He clearly detects fear in the nurse s face and tries to make
himself look less menacing, something many psychopaths cannot do due to the underdeveloped
connections in the brain s emotional systems (Hirstein). Considering this, Randle also saw how
uneasy we were and tried to work us into a better mood (Kesey 201) when he came to the
realization that his interaction with the gas station attendants he had lied to about being serial
killers from an institution made the rest of his companions uncomfortable. Notably, twice within
the novel McMurphy apologizes after feeling remorse for what he s said or done to others for

example of how he regards Chief highly. Finally, Randle displays outbursts of emotion that are

Coca Col A Soft Drink Invented By John Pemberton
TV ads back in the day would try to sell you a product and say why you should buy it. As time
goes on, companies got created with their advertisements, Some added edgy humor in order to
sell to a younger audience. Some even hired celebrities to be in the ad for the appeal. Also, if
something becomes mainstream, companies will take advantage of it by incorporating it in their
products. For example, Marvel became mainstream thanks to their cinematic universe movies.
Their movies became so successful that companies like Coke would ask to use their intellectual
property in their ads. Coca Cola is a soft drink invented by John Pemberton on January 29, 1892.

It is also a bit cheaper to buy. In the ad,it featured the Hulk and the Ant Man from Marvel. Both of
those characters are well known in the Marvel universe. Coke wanted to include those characters
because of their mainstream popularity. The Hulk had his own movie that came out in 2008 and
was a main character in the Avengersmovies which, made more than a billion dollars world wide.
The Ant Man movie came out last year and was a box office success. Since then, these characters
became mainstream to the public. Coke wanted to take advantage of the characters because they
know that they will sell more Coke if they had the characters in their ad. It will make people
want to buy coke since their favorite superheroes are associated with the soft drink. For example,
a kid might think Hey the Hulk is drinking coke, I can be as strong as him if I drink Coke. this
makes the audience want to become like their favorite heroes. According to Signs of Life, Linda
Serger wrote that Many of these most successful films are based on...we identify with the heroes
because...we wish we could do what the hero does. (Serger pg. 387). Serger wrote that if the
viewer is fascinated with the character in film or tv and wants to be that character, the media is
successful on what it wants to do. In the ad, it opens up with Ant Man sneaking into Bruce Banner
s (the human form of the Hulk) lab to steal his last Coke Mini.

Critical Summary Of Insurgent
Choice As was true of its precursor, Insurgent mainly revolves around the theme of choices and in
the manner they can change you. After all, the book s tagline is one choice can destroy you. In
Insurgent, all of Tris s decisions had main drawback, as she determined whether or not to enter risky
situations, to fib to Tobias, and even to surrender herself. With so much on the line, Tris s choices
involve not only her, but everybody around her. As the cycle goes on, option left just as important,
but the stakes get upper and upper DivisionThe entire group system is based around separating
people up and creating diverse groups with limitations between them. Insurgent illustrates how these
divisions generate an us vs. them attitude that eventually brings it to ruin. In this novel, schism also
happen within these groups: Dauntless splits into faithful and conspirator, Abnegation is broken ,
Erudite imperfection from Jeanine and her following, and Johanna and other Amity tear from their
section when they do not have the same point of view with the result to stay straightforward .
These divisions are what eventually creates so much annihilation, and as Tris learns time and yet
again that it is not possible to complete snooty goals when you are separated down in the center.
Trust and Honesty With much of this novel taking place in Candor nerve center, it is to be expected
that trust and honesty figure vastly into the theme. Tris and Tobias s relationship is put under harm

Personal Reflection In Social Work
As a new tutor, I definitely feel the sense of the community within the writing center that was
described to me during the interview and the first couple of meetings. Everyone is so welcoming
and excited to work together, and it is an awesome environment to have become a part of. After
going to more and more of this class, I am certainly beginning to find my place here and am
excited to really find my niche. I look forward to hanging out with the other tutors at staff meetings
and during breaks since I would like to get to know everyone more. I cannot wait to begin tutoring
and working with this team.
To me, the most valuable part of this course was the practice element of it. I felt I learned quite a
bit from reviewing former clients papers and figuring out what would be the best strategy in
working with them. By dissecting them individually, in pairs, or as a class, it became easier to
pick up on common mistakes and writing issues. In addition, when we reviewed the piece on the
abusive mother, it made me realize just what types of papers I may come across as a tutor. Since I
am a social work major, I am used to frequently seeing these types of stories in my classes, but
never really thought about how I would see them here, as well.
However, for next year, I think more time should be spent on the practice portion versus theory.
While some of the readings were interesting, I did not feel they were necessarily valuable in
preparing me for my future tutoring. I found some of them to be rather confusing and unrelated,
making it difficult to apply them to tutoring. In addition, since I am a social work major, a lot of
the information on cultural competency and connecting with others despite our differences was a
review for me, but I am aware that not all tutors in training have this background.
Instead, I would suggest doing more exercises in examining student s papers and strategies in actual
tutoring. I am not an education major, so other than the small amount of time I have spend doing
private tutoring, I am not so used to instructing others. Therefore, I definitely would have benefited
more from doing actual exercises during class time and perhaps doing more readings that give
suggestions on best

My Strengths And Challenges In My Life
Every individual will at some point in their life face obstacles that can hinder their growth;
however, it is up to each individual to decide whether these obstacles will stop them entirely or
carve them into a stronger, more perseverant being. I have faced various obstacles in my life, but I
believe that my obstacles specifically those related to my shoulderhealth have developed me into
the resilient man I am today. To explain, three days into my freshman year, I tore my labrum in
my right shoulder at football practice. Although I had surgery to repair it, I knew my chances of
being a three sport athlete were diminished. I was forced to stop playing football and wrestling,
but I was lucky enough to be cleared to play baseball. High school baseball was my dream ever
since I was a child, so I knew what it meant to the younger kids in my community. Now, it was my
time to show them who I was, and I refused to let that be taken from me. For this reason, I began
devoting much of my time to baseball.
My first season went well, but my team did not do as well, so I couldn t wait for summer
baseball. Unfortunately, while playing in the summer, I began to feel intense shoulder pain.
Initially, I tried to hide my pain because I was scared that baseball would be taken from me.
Eventually, though, I couldn t hide my pain and I dislocated my left shoulder several times in a
single game. I faced a similar obstacle a year prior, and I decided once again to have surgery to
repair my

Isabel Briggs Personality
Personality tests serve as effective facilitators to learning about the features of an employee and
potential benefits and drawbacks that he or she may encounter at a given position. Legitimacy of

not provide credentials for their authors, statistical tools implemented, and no connection can be

many of the characteristics given in personality tests, but some portion of the information in such
assessments with explanation can be left to a chance. In this respect, I would not advise using
personality tests for hiring purposes, because a person considered creative and easygoing, such as
extraverted types, might appear too emotional and lacking the sense of hierarchy. Primarily, the test

Compare The Rate Law For The Reaction Between Crystal...
Rate Law for the reaction crystal violet and hydroxide ions
Objective
This experiment was to determine the rate law for the crystal violet with hydroxyl ions reaction.
Materials
Crystal violet dye, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and spectrophotometer were used in this experiment.
Theory
The rate of reaction is a topic in chemical kinetics that explains the speed at which the chemicals
interact or it is the rate at which a product is formed by a chemical reaction. There are factors that
determine the rate of a particular reaction. These factors include; reactant concentration, the
temperature of the reaction and presence or absence of a catalyst. Most chemical reactions increase
in speed as the concentration of the reactant increases. This is because ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the moles of crystal violet dye react with the hydroxyl ions present in sodium
hydroxide (Wheeler and Sigmann 328). The slopes of both the first order and second order graphs
of In (concentration) against time gave the rate constant (k) of each reactant. For the first order
absorbance reaction, the concentration of sodium hydroxide was 0.01M, which has a reaction rate
constant of 0.055 (mol dm 3 s 1) while the reaction rate constant of the first order absorbance
where the concentration of sodium hydroxide, 0.020M, was 0.095 (mol dm 3 s 1). When rate
constant (NaOH 0.01M) was divided by (NaOH 0.020M) gave 0.579 (mol dm 3 s 1). The
functional change of y as the concentration rate changes is calculated to be 0.8. Therefore, the
order of reaction with respect to the hydroxyl ions was 0.8.
Conclusion
In this experiment, the reaction order with respect to hydroxyl ions was calculated. The
comparison of rate 1 (initial concentration) and rate two (second concentration) showed that the
value of y which is the rate of reaction in respect to hydroxyl ions was 0.8. Therefore, the order
of reaction with respect to hydroxide ions was 0.8. By using the graphical method, the value of
x=1. x represents the order of reaction with respect to dye(crystal violet). The overall rate law was
found to be; Rate=k [crystal violet] 1[hydroxide ions]

from the book Voodoo Histories, the author emphasizes that we as humans, dramatize and make
up myths of how we think the story would have gone. We have this perception that there is
always an answer or a reasoning for everything. He stated that we use paranoia as to make
ourselves feel as though we are important and have something to say about our lives. The author
viewed as the events in our lives were just a reason to be talked about but also the fear of not
being talked about, is what people fear the most. He mostly uses his knowledge to inform the
readers of his thoughts on conspiracy and the 21st century. point of view on this informative
subject. The author values that we as the general audience dramatize everything by nature, no
matter how small the stories are. He also emphasizes the word paranoia throughout the book,
because that is what he believes the general audience will take away from the idea of conspiracy.
Conspiracy can be such a conflict with how we perceive the world around us. From reading this
article one can see that how we process the thoughtof a tragic event, we make our stories how we
want them to end. That is where, David Aaronovitch argues that conspiracy does not have power

TREATMENT
Treatment depends on the cause of the urinary obstruction and its severity. In some cases, the
problem corrects itself as the child grows and develops. In other cases, treatment can involve:
The placement of a soft plastic tube (stent) into the blocked ureter. The stent will keep the ureter
open and allow urine to flow more normally.
The placement of a drainage tube into a kidney. The tube will allow urine to drain into a container
outside the body.
Surgery to fix the problem causing the obstruction.
Antibiotic medicine to treat an infection or to help prevent infection.
HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Give medicines only as directed by your child s health care provider.
If your child was prescribed an antibiotic medicine, have him or her finish it all even if he or she

Analysis Of The Minister s Black Veil By Nathaniel Hawthorne
The short story The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne follows the minister Mr.
Hooper whose simple change in appearance alters the very nature of his existence in society till
his death. While his decision to begin to wear a black veil over his face ostracizes him from
society, it also turns him into a more influential clergyman. With the symbolism of the black veil,
Hawthorne makes a statement on the involvement of society in personal matters and the black veil
that is present over the heart of every man, making the point that everyone is guilty of being sinful.
The Minister s Black Veil was first published in 1832 and was written during the American
Romantic time period. Romanticism was a time period where emotion and ... Show more content on

Hooper for his reason for donning the black veil: no attempts were made...to discover the secret
which [the veil] was supposed to hide (6). Hawthorne portrays society s obsession with that which
they do not know for sure or cannot understand. Hawthorne portrays the townspeople in this way
to convey how people can often be involved in matters not concerning them so much so that they
often pass judgements that may not be just. In Mr. Hooper s case, the townspeople are so invested
in analyzing his black veil that they allow themselves to be affected by his veil so much that they
fear him and his veil, and they even avoid him, all the while not considering how they might be
wrong as they are not entirely different from Mr. Hooper. Symbolism is very prominent throughout
the entire short story. The color black typically symbolizes evil, darkness, and sin. The black veil
which conceals the minister s features, with its negative connotation, is representative of sin. The
fact that it is a veil, which traditionally has a purpose is to conceal one s face, implies that the
minister s black veil symbolizes secret sin. Hawthorne uses this symbolism to imply that man is
inherently sinful; if a minister could potentially guilty of sin, so can others. For the townspeople,
the black veil has various possible meanings. While many townspeople guess at its
significance‒some of the townspeople

The Impacts Of John Hersey
John Hersey not only brings home the instantaneous physical impacts following the implosion of
the atomic bomb, but also the weeks, months, and years to come after the bomb was dropped.
The effects of radiation on a majority of people, caused by the atomic bomb, lasted for the rest of
their lives. If fact, radiation was often the cause of the death later in life, whether it be the direct
cause of fragility or cancer but also for those who procreated. The radiation also affected some of
their offspring, resulting in complications, defects and ultimately continuing the death count.

The Bracero Program Essay
The Bracero Program War creates all kinds of hardships on everyone involved whether it is
overseas on the front line or right in our own backyard. During World War II one hardship faced in
the United States was the lack of laborers to work the land and other taxing jobs here in the United
States. The solution, bring migrant workers from Mexicoto complete the work; otherwise known
as the Bracero Program. What is the American and Mexican history leading up to the Bracero
program? Were these workers paid fair, were they treated fair, and did they benefit in the long term?

Under the Bracero Program Mexicans were contracted to United State farmers to tend the land
(Espinosa). These Mexicans are known as Braceros. In order to be legal, Bracero s had to obtain
permits and enter the United States through recruitment centers where they had to be deemed
physically capable of the hard labor work they were signing up for. One poplar recruitment center
was Ciudad Juarez, across the border of El Paso, Texas (Espinosa). Barcero s were under contracts
with the employer Farm Security Administration of the Department of Agriculture of the United
States of America. Farm Security Administration of the Department of Agriculture of the United
States of America could enter into contracts with farm owners known as sub employers (Marentes).
The contracts were to be written in Spanish but often times they were written in English and the
Bracero s would sign without comprehending what the contract mandated. Many events were the
cause for the termination of the Bracero Program. A prevalent event to the termination of the
program was the increased popularity of the cotton harvester. The cotton harvester was actually
patented in 1850 by Samuel S. Rembert and Jedediah Prescot. It was not manufactured however
until 1949 and by 1960 cotton harvesters were utilized more than laborers themselves (Holley).

Phineas Gage Summary
Imagine your sitting at home watching the news, a reporter talks about a man surviving a three
foot iron pole being blown through his skull and taking a chunk of his brain out. This was an
actual story that happened to a man named Phineas Gage back in 1848, long before modern
neuroscience and medication. Gage was a railroad track builder for the town of Cavendish,
Vermont. While he was working, a man uses dynamite to blow away rocks that are blocking the
way of the railroad tracks. The dynamite goes off to early and sends a tamping iron, a rod used
for beating down earthly substance in tamping for blasting, straight through Gage s head. The rob
goes through his left cheek and his eye, it splits his optic nerve, and then comes out his forehead.
Gage lived through this horrible incident and he s was still able to speak and move around, but he
was not the same... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It amazes me that this man was able to survive such a horrendous experience. I did some research
on what parts of his brain were actually destroyed. The frontal lobes, limbic system, and anything
in between the two were obliterated. As you all know, the frontal lobes deal mostly with receiving
and coordinating messages from other lobes, while the limbic system controls your emotions and
drives(hunger, dominance,etc.). So my prediction is that his limbic system was definitely
abolished, but his frontal lobes were merely damaged. The fontal lobes also help the brain with
motor control and speech production which Gage still had. So the only explanation I can come up
with is that limbic system got shut down and the neurotransmitters shut down as well which
stopped sending messages to the frontal lobe. With the frontal lobe not receiving any messages
from the limbic system, Gages emotions went rampant, going from a really nice guy to a really
not so nice guy. By knowing more about Mr. Gage and what he went through, I now know why he
acted the way he

Trigger Point
A Trigger Point in Your Rear End that can Provide Back Pain Relief
A trigger point found in Gluteus Maximus and Gluteus Medius is step one in treating low back
pain that radiates across the back just above the hip bones and just below the hip into the
hamstrings. Some people may find this location in their butt to be the one that relieves most if not
all their pain. It is also the spot where some may actually have superficial dimpling, although not
everyone will see dimpling it can be useful in finding this important trigger point. In the image
gluteus maximus is highlighted in light green and the gluteus medius is highlighted in a deeper

It is suggested to try a tennis ball 1st, while lying on the floor for back pain relief. Place the tennis
ball, lacrosse ball or massage block below your ribs and above your hips. Allow the weight of
your body to apply deep pressure to provide back pain relief. To treat the lateral edge of the QL
turn onto your side supporting your head with a bent elbow and resting on your hand. Place a
tennis ball below your lowest rib and above the hip allow your body weight to sink into the ball.
Move the ball closer to the hip bone or ilium, again allowing the weight of your body to sink into
the ball. You can also use a tennis ball or lacrosse ball by leaning at a slight angle against a wall.
To treat trigger points in the QL without the use of a tennis ball. Place your hands on your hips
with your thumbs directed toward your spinal column. Work on one side at a time. It may be easier
to start with a loosely held fist using the knuckles to push in toward the spin and up toward the 12th
rib, then down toward the hip

Personal Growth Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Personal Growth in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath uses this quote in The Bell Jar to
show the main character Esther Greenwood struggles. The quote states as followed, There is
something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other,
especially when you are the only extra person in the room. It s like watching Paris from an
express caboose heading in the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller,
only you feel it s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away
from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). Plath uses this
quote to encapsulate the true feelings of the main character and her struggles with social
conformity. It is obvious that Esther Greenwood is directly inspired by Plath herself. The many
similarities include their pseudonyms, the absence of a father, their young age, and their high level
of intelligence. The only major difference is Esther s suicideattempt was fortunately unsuccessful
while Sylvia Plath s was unfortunately successful. Plath committed suicide at the age of thirty due
to her major struggles of conforming to society. Sylvia Plath In The Bell Jar, the author, Sylvia
Plath, uses metaphors, symbolism, and tone to draw attention to the main characters journey
through mental illness and her struggle to relate to the feminist expectations of society.

The Wind in the Willows Essay
The Wind in the Willows
The Wind in the Willows (published in 1908) by Kenneth Grahame is a children s fictional novel
set in England during the early 20th century. This allegory from the stimulus booklet evokes
feelings of magic and adventure but also feelings of reflection as we relate the actions of Ratty,
Mole and Toad to our lives.Grahame evokes an imaginative journey within the mind of the reader as
he questions Which journey s do we take that we really want to experience? Kenneth Grahame
conveys this idea through Mole who is being forced to take Ratty s journey instead of his own. This
text broadens our understanding of the world today in that it helps us to undertsand the complex
interactions between people.

Camps, villages, town s cities . This vivid description of what he anticipates creates imagery in the
minds of the audience allowing them to enter the imaginative realm of Toads journey.
In this extract Kenneth Grahame creates exaggeration within the characters to effectively fuel the
imagination of the audience. The audience is sent on an imaginative journey as they picture the
different facial expressions, changing body language and personalities of the characters. For
example The rat only snorted and thrust his hands deep into his pocket , cried the Toad, straddling
and expanding himself , said Toad imploringly , followed him eagerly etc. The reader can interprete
the nature and personality of the characters more precisely through exaggeration because they are
able to picture them in their imagination.
The use of exaggeration is effective as it allows the true nature of the character to be expressed in
the writing, for example said Toad imploringly illustrates how Toad is desperate and pleaing to
Ratty, however if the text only contained said Toad then the true nature of Toad would not be
evoked in the audiences imagination.
The Wind in the Willows uses the technique of anthropomorphism. This feature is visually
appealing to the audience as the animals seem less threatening and it sends the reader into a fantasy
world full of magical and adventurous thoughts. The audience can effectively engage with the
human traits shown by the

Hate In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a name synonymous with the most illustrious and well recognised plays of
all time. Written by easily the most remarkable playwright of the English language, William
Shakespeare, this tragedy portrays the dire narrative of two star crossed lovers from feuding
families whom are engrossed in a taboo love. Despite often playing as a drama of love, Romeo and
Juliet is truly a play that details the complex and bilateral relationship between love and hate. This
relationship without doubt shows that in this context, neither love nor hate could exist without the
other. Romeo and Juliet often allude to the reciprocal relationship between love and hate, it could
even be said that the mutual hate their two families share further intensifies their love. This clash of
the two powerful emotions of love and hate ultimately leads to the triumph of love over hate....

This hinting from the main characters demonstrates just how vital the intense relationship between
love and hate is in the play. A key point in the tragedy is where Juliet states rather bluntly; My only
love sprung from my only hate (I, v, 138). This candid statement from Juliet exhibits that even she
recognizes the relationship between love and hate. In speaking these words, Juliet apprehends this
relationship, and is aware of the fact that without Romeo (a person of the very house she is
supposed to hate), she would not be in love. Simply put, this quote shows that Juliet understands the
relationship between love and hate. It could even be said that the common hate between the two
families further intensifies their

  • 2. Substance Abuse Treatment For Adolescents Essay Introduction Including families in the treatment of substance use in adolescents has been a debate for several years in the addictions world. Some claim that involving families may hinder the client s ability to improve due to not being honest, fear, and the lack of relationship one may have with their family members, specifically parental figures. Adolescents may not be honest with themselves or family members due to fear of disappointing or fear of punishment. Many providers and policy makers do not view family member involvement as essential for successful treatment and recovery and see family as part of the problem rather than part of the solution (Hornberger Smith, 2011). However, some researchers have found that families are an important resource for young people as they journey through substance use treatment. The journal article entitled Substance Abuse Treatment for Adolescents: How are Family Factors Related to Substance Use Change? discusses the importance in family involvement in the adolescent treatment process leading to significant decreases in usage. The article backs up their conclusion with research administered among a number of adolescents and their Mothers in Quebec, Canada. Statistics It is crucial to understand the statistics in youth substance use involvement, to fully understand that this is a rising issue throughout the world. In 2013, an estimated 24.6 million Americans aged 12 or older; 9.4 percent of the population had used an illicit drug ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Assistant Principal Darin It is just like any other day for Cathy Hurley, principal of Wylie E. Groves High School. She sat at her desk, blindly clicking through several emails, her tortoise glasses resting lazily on the tip of her nose. The sun was hidden behind several thick, grey clouds; it looked like it would snow later. The thoughtof getting new tires for the upcoming weather briefly crossed her mind when there was a sudden knock at the door, making her jump. She briefly fixed her glasses and smoothed down her hair before calling Come in! The assistant principal Darin Wilcox, a stocky babyish man, poked his head in. Cathy, there s an old man here to see you. He doesn t seem to be the parent of any student or teacher here, though. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well, Mr. Socrates , how can I help you? All my life, I ve pondered questions never expecting an answer. If I propose a problem or question to someone, they can never seem to get it just right. Many will leave in a fit of rage, perplexed that I answer my own questions with more that seem to have no answer. However, in this room with you, in this school, I feel that it s my duty to demand an answer for the problem I ve come here for today. Cathy sat for a moment in stunned silence. Boy was this guy playing it up! Who does he think he is? Maybe he actually believes he s the real Socrates! She thought. And just what exactly is your question, sir? Socrates gave her a look as fierce as a hawk would give its prey. I don t understand why you let hatred, bigotry, discrimination run through your school, infecting not only staff but students as well, like the vile disease it is. This time, a wave of horror and confusion spread across her face. I I beg your pardon?! I have never heard of such things before, not from students, staff, anyone! I did not decide to run this school, just to make it a place where students feel unhappy! Kids love the environment here and are constantly making new friends. • 4. Graphically Representing Data And Distribution Tables That... Graphically Representing Data Within a School Setting Christopher M. Lightfoot Abstract This paper examines the ability to graphically display frequency distribution tables that are represented within a school setting. There are three types of data sets that are interpreted within two types of frequency distribution tables (see Table 1). The first type of data set that is mentioned is a discrete nominal data set that is graphically displayed as a bar chart (see Figure 1), which displays the reoccurrence of each category within the simple frequency table (see Table 2). The second data type referenced is a discrete ordinal data set that was analyzed through a simple frequency table. The simple frequency table allows for the conversion of the ordinal data into a pie chart (see Figure 2), which measures the percentages within a four point Likert Scale (see Table 3). The final data source is a continuous interval set, which was interpreted through a cumulative frequency table (see table 4). The cumulative frequency table is graphically represented in Figure 3 as a combination of a histogram (which measures the percentage of class intervals) and scatter points (to identify the cumulative percentage between all of the class intervals). Graphically Representing Data Within a School Setting The creation of frequency distribution tables allows for the conversion of the data within the set into a dramatic graphic representation. • 5. Ilm Introduction The goal of the Change Management process is to ensure that standardised methods and procedures are used for efficient and prompt handling of all Changes, in order to minimise the impact of Change related Incidents upon service quality, and consequently to improve the day to day operations of the organisation. In this report I have outline EMC s main reasons for implementing the Information lifecycle management (ILM) project, the problems associated with implementing the project and possible ways to overcome these issues. In the main body of the report I will give an account of the years leading up to the implementation of the ILM project. This is an important factor as the industry was in a recession at the time and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the downturn EMC was capable of making million dollar deals, after the downturn the market for such deals simply did not exist. While certain surveys show IT spending growing, I believe most companies will be extremely cautious in increasing their IT spending during 2003, I do believe there s a bias toward the positive, but no one s willing to commit to increased spending before they see how the year develops. The larger companies in the market where not prepared to make such big deals at that time, so EMC targeted the smaller companies in the market. Two important factors to consider when selecting a target market segment are the attractiveness of the segment and the fit between the segment and the firm s objectives, resources, and capabilities. EMC still expects to invest $1 billion in research and development during 2001, and is investing heavily in its internal information technology infrastructure and looking for areas where it can build talent in several strategic areas. Due to the steps taken above, EMC was perfectly placed to progress in the market. They had built a sold base during the dot com shakeout without neglecting key resources such are R D, this was the best decision made by top management during the shake out years. Although money was tight, top management knew the importance of R D if were to grow into the future. This decision has aided EMC s move to ILM a great deal. I honestly believe the storage ... • 6. Confidantes, Marriage, and Friendship in Pride and... One cannot accomplish much without the help and opinions of people such as their friends, siblings, or parents. This person, or confidante, must be willing to listen to and provide helpful thoughts and feedback. In Pride and Prejudice, a novel by Jane Austen, Elizabeth Bennet is a heroine who is in desperate need of a confidante. Jane Bennet, Elizabeth s kind and honest sister, becomes that person Lizzy needs when she is feeling flustered. Jane perfectly fits the criteria of a confidante because she is optimistic and sanguine, in which she can provide Elizabeth a different, more positive, approach to her problems. The author uses Jane Bennet to portray a paradigm of a young lady in England during that time period, where marriages depended... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it may seem to the reader that Jane is idealistic or dishonest, she really says what is on her mind. Jane truly believes all people are good spirited and that she will never be deceived by anyone. In this way, the author uses Jane Bennet to give the reader a different perspective of a certain character in the story: while Elizabeth is always criticizing the many characters in this novel, Jane is there to deliver a contradictory statement about those characters. Mr. Wickham reveals to Elizabeth that Mr. Darcy had prevented him from joining the ministry by refusing to supply the money Darcy s father had intended to provide for Wickham. Upon hearing these revealing statements about Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth is appalled and outraged at how selfish a man can be. Elizabeth then relates to Jane about what she had discovered about Mr. Darcy but Jane provides her and the reader with a different, more optimistic point of view: It is impossible. No man of common humanity, no man who had any value for his character, could be capable of it. Can his most intimate friends be so excessively deceived in him? Oh! no (Austen 74). Elizabeth s decision to believe Mr. Wickham originates her prejudice towards Mr. Darcy into the novel. However, in the end, the reader finds out that Jane had actually been correct in that Darcy can never have done such a horrible thing and that he had actually given Wickham the money his father left for him. Jane Bennet is the perfect example of what a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Controversy With Whale-Hunting Trips The article Iceland Tourism Courts Controversy with Whale Hunting Trips , written by Tom Mackenzie and Ed Kiernan talks about how one of the richest men in Iceland, Kristjan Loftsson owns the only commercial fin whaling company in the world. I believe there is room for both whale hunting and whale watching as long as whalehunting is kept limited. There should be a tracking system where each company should be given the annual quota and if they go over, penalize them with a charge. Whale watching is important because as Masson from the article said, I think 99 percent of the tourists who come to Iceland, they are coming here to experience wild nature at its best . By limiting the amount of whale hunting, owners of fin whaling company like Kristjan Loftsson might lose some profit on the year but at least no one will be against them if they do not over hunt the whales. As Kristjan Loftsson believes the world has wrongly turned against him , just shows that he does think of other people s opinions on whale hunting and if they set a quota to a reasonable number then people won t have a problem and he would not think that the world is against him as he thinks now. Technology In The Fertile Crescent Technology, in the form of weapons and transport, provides the direct means by which certain peoples have expanded their realms and conquered other peoples (Diamond 241). In the modern world, weapons seem to define the outcomes of wars. Technology motivates the daily lives of people internationally. Throughout history, weapons and technologyhave led to major conquests and growths of human civilizations. After 11,000 B.C., technology in the Fertile Crescent developed immensely. Inventions including flint blades for harvesting, baskets and containers for collecting crops, and underground storage pits made it possible for food production to occur. These cumulative developments constituted the unconscious first steps of plant domestication (Diamond 111). Utilizing the further geographical advantage of rich soil, people of the Fertile Crescent leapt into the world of food production. Food production, in turn, yielded large food surpluses stored in baskets, allowing the society to move toward a sedentary lifestyle and a more organized, specialized community. Analysing Ethical Issues of National Kidney Foundation Case Ethical Analysis: National Kidney Foundation of Singapore (A) Anatomy of a Crisis Wee Beng Geok and Yvonne Chong Overview When the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Singapore came under the scrutiny of the nation back in the July of 2005, it was evident that there was going to be major changes in the local social welfare scene. As a non profit charitable organisation, the main aim of NKF was not only to look after the needs of its patients but encompassed drawing resources from society and moving towards changing and improving society as a whole. In this report, we focus on the issues that the top management faced and how this entire saga has affected not only NKF but also its numerous internal and external stakeholders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... NKF s management might seem to not have taken donors opinions into consideration and hence portrayed the image of mismanaging donations. However, it would be unfair to not point out how not all stakeholders are equal and each is entitled to different considerations. Expectations differ across stakeholders and decisions made would more often than not lead to a conflict of interest but following the principle of utilitarianism, it is up to the discretion of the organisation to balance their decisions and decide how best to appease the majority. An example would be NKF s dilemma of whether to disclose the salary of the CEO; not doing so would result in accusations of not being transparent while disclosing it might lead to criticism of charity leaders being too highly paid. The interests of the CEO and the donors are at conflict. Alternative Theoretical Perspectives Having received the National Youth Excellence Award in 1976 and practiced as a lawyer for 6 years2, Durai could be seen as a leader with strong self efficacy and self esteem. He valued new challenges more than conformity and challenged society s perspective of managing a charity. His refreshing approaches to branding and fund raising led to staff costs incurred by the many fund raising activities to be higher than that of staff cost for dialysis treatment, which was not on the same page as what external stakeholders (donors and society) would expect from a charity. ... Sleepless In Seattle Plot Analysis Theme The theme of a movie is an idea, issue, or concept that a writer wants to express through a story; a message or meaning that the audience is meant to take away from a movie. (Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014) The theme of Sleepless in Seattle is best stated by Tom Hanks in the beginning of the film, and I ll grow a new heart. (Arch, 1992) Can true lovehappen for the second time? The theme of this movie is about answering this question. Will Sam find love again? Acting Style When you think of acting style in movies, you are looking for how the actors/actresses represent the characters for the story. Tom Hanksis such a multitalented actor, but in Sleepless in Seattle, he expertly plays a heartbroken widower and the father of Jonah. Meg Ryan is the ultimate hopeless romantic and plays her role as Annie to perfection. Bill Pullman is wonderful in his role as a skilled business professional, who is Annie s fiancГ©, Walter. Sam is Mr. Sleepless in Seattle. Annie has overwhelming compassion for Jonah and Sam after hearing their story on the radio station. Maybe Annie felt sorry for Jonah after hearing him asking for a new wife for his dad, or maybe it was just magic and fate that made her fall in love with Sam before even meeting him. Although, Roland was expecting Marianne to invite him to stay over at her apartment as they arrived, something completely different happened. Marianne says, I m not asking you to understand, I m asking you to leave Roland then says, Bit fucking rich, isn t it? Analysis Of Rancho Solano Preparatory School Introduction Rancho Solano Preparatory School (RSPS) was founded in 1954 and for decades was highly praised by parents as being family oriented and community centered. In 2007, the school was sold to Meritas Family of Schools and within the subsequent seven years changed its strategy to one with international interests. Other changes in the school were not so positive and included an increased lack of transparency with parents and teachers, which resulted in a gradual disconnect with the community leading to anger and distrust on the part of parents. Comparatively, RSPS has 1,137 students and 200 employees (5.7 students per employee) (Top 10 Arizona Companies: Private Schools, 2014). This is not a horizontal organization that is becoming more and more common in today s business world. The teacher subsystem should be changed into an adaptive organization or organic design (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). In the adaptive design, authority would be decentralized, with fewer rules and procedures, wide spans of control, shared tasks, more teams and task forces, and more informal and personal coordination (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). The planned change would result in improved interpersonal connection with students, their parents, and other teachers. Administrators, while serving an important function would not be the focus. Internal auditing as an important part of auditing supervision system attracts significant attention in currently business environment, especially after several accounting scandals such as Enron and WorldCom. With the continuous improvement of business environment and regulatory requirements, internal auditing undergoes a progressive process, from the simple to complex, from the basic to advanced. The Institute of Internal auditors (IIA) defines the internal auditing as follows: Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity design to add value and improve an organization s operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance process (Burnaby and Hass 2011). Adam Liszt As A Principal Figure In The Romantic Movement Liszt was not only a principal figure in the Romantic Movement but also a composer of enormous originality and arguably the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. A controversial character, he was attacked for his innovations, talent and flair by his jealous rivals. As a composer, he radically extended the technique of piano writing, extended the harmonic language, and later developed chromatic harmony which led eventual breakdown of tonality revolutionizing the music of the era. As a pianist Liszt was the first to give complete solo recitals, and he did a great deal to encourage the performance of music by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner, and Robert Schumann by transcribing their works for piano and playing them in his concerts at a time when they were insufficiently appreciated. He also helped younger composers, and he taught a number of pupils who themselves became famous virtuosos. When Franz was five years old; he was already attracted to the piano and was soon given lessons by his father, Adam Liszt. He began to show interest in both church and Gypsy music. Franz began to compose at the age of eight and at only nine years old, he made his first public appearance as a concert pianist. He gave several concerts in Vienna, with great success. Liszt moved with his family to Paris in 1823. Liszt s Paris debut on March 7, 1824, was sensational. Between 1830 and 1832, Liszt met three fellow composers who were to have a great influence on his artistic life, Hector ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section 10 Essay In Hume s 1748 publication: An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding , Section 10 is titled Of Miracles. This section is an extended argument against the veracity of miracles. In response to Hume, Richard Price published Four Dissertations in 1768. In Dissertation IV, The Importance of Christianity, the Nature of Historical Evidence and Miracles, Price outlines a Bayesian argument against Hume s conclusions that miracles cannot ever occur. My thesis is that Price s Bayesian argument, arguably the first use of Bayes Theorem to challenge another published argument fails. It fails on three fronts: it mischaracterizes Hume s argument as non conditional; it improperly employs a Bayesian model test case of newspaper reporting; and it does not consider the effects of the preliminary seeding of probabilities for its Bayesian model of miracles. 1.0 Hume s Argument Against Miracles Hume s argument is multi faceted but most commentators (Millican, Earman) agree that the key summary occurs in paragraph 13. The plain consequence is (and tis a general maxim worthy of our attention) That no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind, that its falsehood would be more miraculous, than the fact, which it endeavours to establish... (E 10.13) This first quote establishes a simple probability model of a miracle occurring (Miracle Happening: MH) given a true testimony about that event (True Testimony: TT) and Hume argues that it must be greater ... • 20. The Power Of Not Parenting Ray Bradbury Analysis The Power of Not Parenting 2.0 Ray Bradbury uses imagery and characterization to allude to the fact that the use of tech as a supplementary parenting technique can cause child development problems in many forms. In the beginning of the story Bradbury uses imagery like ...you could feel the prickling fur on your skin...your mouth was stuffed.... Which gives the impression that the difference between reality, and technology are unrecognizable. The border between ethical enjoyment and living in an artificial reality is washed away because of these types of technological advances that caused humans, especially the Hadley family, to pass the line where technology should not mess with a human s mental emotions, however a remnant will remain where ethical enjoyment met its boundary which is signified in the text in the form of, ...we bought this house, so we would not have to do anything That is just it. I feel like I do not belong here. Which shows how destructive this perceived toy and it s consumer friendly gadget counterparts can be if it can cause this much stress, and has the possibility of pulling families apart, especially where it hurts. Which in this case is at the seams, the love factor of a connected family is missing in this scenario, so much that the kids eventually plot against and supposedly kill their parent, just to get more time to play with this insidious invention. • 26. The First Signs Of Music Therapy Essay The use of music for therapy has been seen to exist for almost as long as the start of therapy itself. At around 400 B.C., Hippocrates, a Greek physician known for his tremendous contributions to modern medicine, was shown to be the first human to use music as a way to therapeutically treat mental patients. Since then, records of other civilizations such as the Egyptians, Arabians, and even the Native Americans show signs of the use of music in medicine. This form of therapy was said to help align the soul and the body together. However, it was not until the 18th century that researchers have studied how music affects the nerves themselves (Gouk, 2004). The first signs of music therapy used in the modern world were predominantly in the United Kingdom after World War I (Degmecic, 2005). Musicians played to war veterans suffering from both mental and physical trauma to help alleviate their pain. As these veterans were seen having positive responses to the music played, doctors hired more musicians to help play at veteran hospitals. Seeing the positive feedback and recovery of the veterans prompted the use of music therapy to become an actual academic curriculum taught in college courses. Currently, the leading organization that focuses primarily on music therapy is the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) which was formed in 1998. Their team of music therapists has helped countless of patients improve both their physical and emotional help with the use of music. Music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After going to more and more of this class, I am certainly beginning to find my place here and am excited to really find my niche. I look forward to hanging out with the other tutors at staff meetings and during breaks since I would like to get to know everyone more. I cannot wait to begin tutoring and working with this team. To me, the most valuable part of this course was the practice element of it. I felt I learned quite a bit from reviewing former clients papers and figuring out what would be the best strategy in working with them. By dissecting them individually, in pairs, or as a class, it became easier to pick up on common mistakes and writing issues. In addition, when we reviewed the piece on the abusive mother, it made me realize just what types of papers I may come across as a tutor. Since I am a social work major, I am used to frequently seeing these types of stories in my classes, but never really thought about how I would see them here, as well. However, for next year, I think more time should be spent on the practice portion versus theory. While some of the readings were interesting, I did not feel they were necessarily valuable in preparing me for my future tutoring. I found some of them to be rather confusing and unrelated, making it difficult to apply them to tutoring. In addition, since I am a social work major, a lot of the information on cultural competency and connecting with others despite our differences was a review for me, but I am aware that not all tutors in training have this background. Instead, I would suggest doing more exercises in examining student s papers and strategies in actual tutoring. Rate Law for the reaction crystal violet and hydroxide ions Objective This experiment was to determine the rate law for the crystal violet with hydroxyl ions reaction. Materials Crystal violet dye, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and spectrophotometer were used in this experiment. Theory The rate of reaction is a topic in chemical kinetics that explains the speed at which the chemicals interact or it is the rate at which a product is formed by a chemical reaction. There are factors that determine the rate of a particular reaction. These factors include; reactant concentration, the temperature of the reaction and presence or absence of a catalyst. Most chemical reactions increase in speed as the concentration of the reactant increases. This is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because the moles of crystal violet dye react with the hydroxyl ions present in sodium hydroxide (Wheeler and Sigmann 328). The slopes of both the first order and second order graphs of In (concentration) against time gave the rate constant (k) of each reactant. For the first order absorbance reaction, the concentration of sodium hydroxide was 0.01M, which has a reaction rate constant of 0.055 (mol dm 3 s 1) while the reaction rate constant of the first order absorbance where the concentration of sodium hydroxide, 0.020M, was 0.095 (mol dm 3 s 1). When rate constant (NaOH 0.01M) was divided by (NaOH 0.020M) gave 0.579 (mol dm 3 s 1). The functional change of y as the concentration rate changes is calculated to be 0.8. Therefore, the order of reaction with respect to the hydroxyl ions was 0.8. Conclusion In this experiment, the reaction order with respect to hydroxyl ions was calculated. The comparison of rate 1 (initial concentration) and rate two (second concentration) showed that the value of y which is the rate of reaction in respect to hydroxyl ions was 0.8. Therefore, the order of reaction with respect to hydroxide ions was 0.8. By using the graphical method, the value of x=1. x represents the order of reaction with respect to dye(crystal violet). The overall rate law was found to be; Rate=k [crystal violet] 1[hydroxide ions] ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. John Aaronovitch s Voodoo Histories This has been a very controversial topic for centuries, so David Aaronovitch decided to write his from the book Voodoo Histories, the author emphasizes that we as humans, dramatize and make up myths of how we think the story would have gone. We have this perception that there is always an answer or a reasoning for everything. He stated that we use paranoia as to make ourselves feel as though we are important and have something to say about our lives. The author viewed as the events in our lives were just a reason to be talked about but also the fear of not being talked about, is what people fear the most. He mostly uses his knowledge to inform the readers of his thoughts on conspiracy and the 21st century. point of view on this informative subject. The author values that we as the general audience dramatize everything by nature, no matter how small the stories are. He also emphasizes the word paranoia throughout the book, because that is what he believes the general audience will take away from the idea of conspiracy. Conspiracy can be such a conflict with how we perceive the world around us. From reading this article one can see that how we process the thoughtof a tragic event, we make our stories how we want them to end. That is where, David Aaronovitch argues that conspiracy does not have power but the idea of conspiracy gives it power, he supported this by using these terms: sarcastic tone, allusion, persuasive appeals, general diction, and logically organized. ... • 46. Analysis Of The Minister s Black Veil By Nathaniel Hawthorne The short story The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne follows the minister Mr. Hooper whose simple change in appearance alters the very nature of his existence in society till his death. While his decision to begin to wear a black veil over his face ostracizes him from society, it also turns him into a more influential clergyman. With the symbolism of the black veil, Hawthorne makes a statement on the involvement of society in personal matters and the black veil that is present over the heart of every man, making the point that everyone is guilty of being sinful. The Minister s Black Veil was first published in 1832 and was written during the American Romantic time period. Romanticism was a time period where emotion and ... Hawthorne portrays society s obsession with that which they do not know for sure or cannot understand. Hawthorne portrays the townspeople in this way to convey how people can often be involved in matters not concerning them so much so that they often pass judgements that may not be just. In Mr. Hooper s case, the townspeople are so invested in analyzing his black veil that they allow themselves to be affected by his veil so much that they fear him and his veil, and they even avoid him, all the while not considering how they might be wrong as they are not entirely different from Mr. Hooper. Symbolism is very prominent throughout the entire short story. The color black typically symbolizes evil, darkness, and sin. The black veil which conceals the minister s features, with its negative connotation, is representative of sin. The fact that it is a veil, which traditionally has a purpose is to conceal one s face, implies that the minister s black veil symbolizes secret sin. Hawthorne uses this symbolism to imply that man is inherently sinful; if a minister could potentially guilty of sin, so can others. For the townspeople, the black veil has various possible meanings. Phineas Gage Summary Imagine your sitting at home watching the news, a reporter talks about a man surviving a three foot iron pole being blown through his skull and taking a chunk of his brain out. This was an actual story that happened to a man named Phineas Gage back in 1848, long before modern neuroscience and medication. Gage was a railroad track builder for the town of Cavendish, Vermont. While he was working, a man uses dynamite to blow away rocks that are blocking the way of the railroad tracks. The dynamite goes off to early and sends a tamping iron, a rod used for beating down earthly substance in tamping for blasting, straight through Gage s head. The rob goes through his left cheek and his eye, it splits his optic nerve, and then comes out his forehead. It amazes me that this man was able to survive such a horrendous experience. I did some research on what parts of his brain were actually destroyed. The frontal lobes, limbic system, and anything in between the two were obliterated. As you all know, the frontal lobes deal mostly with receiving and coordinating messages from other lobes, while the limbic system controls your emotions and drives(hunger, dominance,etc.). So my prediction is that his limbic system was definitely abolished, but his frontal lobes were merely damaged. The fontal lobes also help the brain with motor control and speech production which Gage still had. So the only explanation I can come up with is that limbic system got shut down and the neurotransmitters shut down as well which stopped sending messages to the frontal lobe. With the frontal lobe not receiving any messages from the limbic system, Gages emotions went rampant, going from a really nice guy to a really not so nice guy. It s like watching Paris from an express caboose heading in the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller, only you feel it s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). In this extract Kenneth Grahame creates exaggeration within the characters to effectively fuel the imagination of the audience. The audience is sent on an imaginative journey as they picture the different facial expressions, changing body language and personalities of the characters. For example The rat only snorted and thrust his hands deep into his pocket , cried the Toad, straddling and expanding himself , said Toad imploringly , followed him eagerly etc. The reader can interprete the nature and personality of the characters more precisely through exaggeration because they are able to picture them in their imagination. The use of exaggeration is effective as it allows the true nature of the character to be expressed in the writing, for example said Toad imploringly illustrates how Toad is desperate and pleaing to Ratty, however if the text only contained said Toad then the true nature of Toad would not be evoked in the audiences imagination. Written by easily the most remarkable playwright of the English language, William Shakespeare, this tragedy portrays the dire narrative of two star crossed lovers from feuding families whom are engrossed in a taboo love. Despite often playing as a drama of love, Romeo and Juliet is truly a play that details the complex and bilateral relationship between love and hate. This relationship without doubt shows that in this context, neither love nor hate could exist without the other.
