Essay on Hypochondriasis as A Mental Disorder
Hypochondriasis as A Mental Disorder
Headache = Tumor. Cough = Tuberculosis. Mole = Skin Cancer. Such is the thought process of a
hypochodriac. As defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV (DSM IV), hypochondriasis
is an unrealistic interpretation of one s bodily sensations as abnormal, leading to the fear and belief
that one has a serious disease (1). This preoccupation with having a serious medical condition is
one of the somatoform disorders and may be considered more as a symptom than a disease. In fact,
hypochondriacal symptoms often appear as a part of other mental disorders, including forms of
depression or schizophrenia (2). For this reason, a close investigation of hypochondriacal behavior
is necessary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With numbers such as these, the issue of understanding more about these symptoms has become
important within the medical world. These pursuits have resulted in four etiologic theories
regarding hypochondriasis, a combination of which could hold the answers to this disorder.
The first of these theories relates to the amplification of normal bodily sensations, or when
individuals ...attribute pathologic meanings to normal somatic sensations and functions. An
example of this would be to attribute swollen lymph nodes to a malignant disease, as opposed to a
simple viral infection. The consequences mostly affect the individual s psychological and
behavioral well being, which leads to the focus of the second theory. Based on Freud s
psychodynamic hypotheses, there is a belief that unconscious conflicts are the result of traumatic or
frustrating childhood experiences being reawakened in adult life by similar stress or frustration.
Consequently, particularly high stress/tension situations could arouse subconscious feelings of
guilt, anxiety, and fear for a person, and their inability to express these emotions verbally may lead
to physical manifestations of conflict.
The remaining two theories take a more behavioral oriented approach. The third

Demonstration Of Corruption In The Statue Of Liberty
Another demonstration of corruption is between Evey and the bishop. V plans for Evey to
disguise herself as a young religious girl and to get in contact with the bishop. While the bishop
attends to Evey, he suggests to do a religious activity and directs her to a bedroom. Wary of the
bishop s actions, Evey distracts him until he interrupts, Now take off your clothes please...Oh
nevermind, allow me to (Moore 53). The bishop is associated with religious authority, meaning that
he has power in the church. The irony is that he is supposed to be practicing ethics, considering the
religious aspects that he involves himself in. However, the bishop nearly sexually harassed Evey,
which is against the common knowledge of religious authority. The victims... Show more content on

In anarchy, everyone is responsible for themselves, without government interference. However,
Moore expresses his thoughts about freedom through his character, V. One example is V
visiting the Statue of Liberty and having a brief discussion on the idea of freedom (Moore 40
41). The Statue of Liberty associates with the idea of freedom and justice. It is in the belief that
the country is free, since the Statue of Liberty is publicly exposed to demonstrate the country s
freedom. V questions whether the country the truly free. He introduces his fascination of his
preferred system of government, since he no longer sees the freedom that the country promises.
He states, [Anarchy] has taught me that justice is meaningless without freedom. She is honest.
She makes no promises and breaks none. Unlike like you, Jezebel (Moore 41). V suggests that
the people can only obtain freedom if they are able to fight for justice. Instead of continuing to
believe the promise of freedom by the government, V chooses to obtain freedom himself. On the
bottom left panel, the Statue of Liberty explodes due to V. This represents how V is no longer
willing to have false hope of the government. He is abandoning the ideals of the fascist

Nuremberg Trial In Criminal Justice
The history of international trials is largely limited to the Nuremberg Tribunals and the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. However, these limited historical
precedents, with an imperfect body of jurisprudence from which to draw, afford one objective: the
search for justice. This justice, however, is victim to the political will that drives trials (Goldstone,
quoted in Historical Evolution From Nuremberg to the International Criminal Court ). Thus,
although justice is usually the preeminent focus for a post conflict society, it is also the most
difficult to attain (Hayner, 8). From a different perspective, one may see the most significant
limitation of international trials to be their subordination to international political will.... Show more

He believed in an international system of accountability that provides justice, and subsequently
deters, for those wrongs that are so calculated, so malignant and so devastating, that civilization
cannot tolerate their being ignored because it cannot survive their being repeated (Jackson, 1945).
In a potential scenario for growth, one may imagine a future in which alternative methods of justice,
including that which is non retributive. In such a setting, it would be incumbent upon truth
commissions to combine their efforts with a prosecutorial staff; in fact, many currently welcome

Walt Whitman s Life That Changed The Way Of Life
Corey Haldiman

Research Paper
Walt Whitman
Walt used creativity, personal experiences and different ideas in his writing. He moved various
times through his childhood, and that may have moved his personality to become slightly neurotic.
He has done a lot of things in his life that has changed the way that future poets will write. Walt
Whitman entered this world on May thirty first, eighteen nineteen in West Hills, New York. He was
the second son among nine other children in his household. His parents were Louisa Van Velsor
and Walter Whitman, a housebuilder. His name was soon shortened to Walt to keep from getting
confused with his father s similar name. The family commuted to Brooklyn, New York when Walt
was only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he made the decision to move back to Brooklyn, he discovered the Brooklyn Freeman and
found his own original way to write poetry.
He was an American poet, journalist and also an essayist. Whitman had a huge impact on poetry.
He is considered to be one of the most influential poets in history and his styles of writing were
extremely unique. In his own special way he was known to be very intellectual, and an unusually
different poet.
He was also described as power seeking, bisexual, and quirky. In the nineteenth century poets
weren t all that admirable, and he was especially looked down on for his sexuality. The sexuality
of Whitman is believed to have something to do with his writing and it is believed that he had
some kind of personal struggle with his sexuality as well. He finally realized that he was
homosexual after he had a handful of unsuccessful sexual tries. When he reached this realization, it
gave his imagination more power in his poems.
Whitman was admired by many, and after he became extremely well known he found nicknames
such as The Bard of Democracy and The Good Grey Poet (Feldman 438) He was sought out to be
one of the greatest poets because of the material he placed in his compositions for the world to see.
Eldridge, William O Connor and John Burroughs, a small group who admired Whitman, gathered in
Washington to participate in the Walt Whitman movement. C.K. Williams found himself very
influence by Walt and wrote a book about

Why Girls Are Dumb
Why Girls Are Dumb Girls are dumb for a million reasons. What causes girls to become selfish,
fake, annoying bitches? Well, the world may never know. Why are girls so different from boys?
They are not that different are They? Girls are dumb because instead of confronting people to
their face, girls hide behind anything they can. Girls are also dumb because they choose to see
the bad in everyone instead of the good and they also have a habit of being afraid to admit when
we are wrong. They make bullies out of themselves, sometimes not knowing it. Girls always tend to
hide behind anything they can so they do not have to actually go and talk about their problems to
another girlface to face. Talking to girls face to face is a whole lot better than messaging them via
text, email, snapchat, facebook messenger, or even calling them. Nothing is the same as face to
face because when you are with a person face to face you can see their reaction, their facial
expressions, and tears. Straying away from the main point, but, why are girls so scared of those
reactions? That is what makes us human. Having emotions is what makes us who we are. Who
would we be without emotions? We would not be human. God created us with emotions with
emotions for a reason. Back on track, girls that do not confront people face to face are scared and
insecure of them own selves, so they try to make others insecure about themselves by talking crap
about other people but being too scared to talk to them face to face. Sometimes, girls think they are
doing the right thing by confronting someone through via phone texting or calling, because
confronting them through phone is better than not confronting them at all, but in reality, it does
not help anything at all. Confronting them through phone is almost as bad as not confronting
anyone at all. Facetime is still not the same as face to face. Another reasons why girls are so
dumb is because they choose to see the bad in everyone instead of the good. Yes, people make bad
decisions sometimes, sometimes they do things they regret, and, again, it is what makes us human.
Nobody became who they are today without making any mistakes. Mistakes can mold people into a
better, smarter and wiser person if

Education And Its Impact On Education
Throughout History, there are many reasons to why a country is the way it is in these modern s
period. Education plays a role in a development in a country. When we look at the global as a
whole, we would see that educations are a factor that help for war, increase economy, increase
political tension, and so on. The foundation of the society is based on educationsince it brings
economic and social prosperity. Gaining education enhances an individual to live a respectful life
in the society. This is because education offers a setting in which culture and values of a society
are developed. Education in modern society provides a forum where the society examines its issues
and identifies solutions. The advancement of a society both economically and socially is by gaining
education which consequently enables them to run a modern society. The events and actions that
had occurred in past based on education led to an economic growth in Japan, Germany free

Thomas Jefferson Social Contract Theory
Morgan Hobbs
Mr. Anderson
Government
21 November 2016
Social Contract Theory
In terms of the American political system, the most significant of the theories of the origin of the
state is that of the Social Contract . Philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes, James Harrington, and
John Locke in england and Jean Jacques Rousseau in France developed this theory in the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Hobbes wrote that in earliest history humans lived in
unbridled freedom, in a state of nature, in which no government existed and no person was subject
to any superior power (Magruder s American Government). That which people could take byforce
belonged to them. However, all people were similarly free in thes state of nature. No authority
existed to protect one person from the aggressive actions of another. Thus, individuals were only
safe as their own physical strength and intelligence could make them. Human beings overcame their
unpleasant condition, says the social contract theory, by agreeing with one another to create a
state. By contract, people within a given agreed agreed to give up to the state as much power as
was needed to promote the safety and well being of all. In the contract, the members of the state
created a government to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It argued that King George III and his ministers had violated the contract. Thomas Jefferson also
called the social contract theory pure Locke . The idea of the social contract had a huge impact on
the Founding Fathers, especially Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The U.S. Constitution
itself starts with the three words, We the people... embodying this idea of popular sovereignty in
the very beginning of this key document. Thus, government that is established by the free choice
of its people is required to serve the people, who in the end have sovereignty, or supreme power to
keep or get rid of that government

Prop 227 Points of Contention Essay
What are the main points of contention surrounding this issue? Be sure to thoroughly discuss
contrasting perspectives and the underlying reasons explaining the different positions people take
on this topic.
The main arguments surrounding Prop 227, is whether or not bilingual programs should be in
schools in California. Some argue that having bilingual programs doesn t help the student to learn
English, it just reinforces their native language. Also it has be said that test scores supposedly did
not improve in the bilingual programs. On the other hand though, people are arguing that the
English Immersion programs do not work because for smaller children they must learn how to read
and write in their native language to be able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with both bilingual education and English as a second language instruction in the
United States lies in our unwillingness to treat English for non speakers as an academic subject
(Haas, 2007). While the bilingual programs in California are thought to be mostly for people who
speak Spanish, there are also Asian students that need to be taught proper English before continuing
their education. As one anonymous teacher points out: I have had 32 different languages spoken in
my classroom over a 25 year period. Eighty four languages are spoken in our district. (Anon 1998
Haas 2007). Which for most teachers mean that it is both educationally and economically
impossible to teach every student in their own native language.
In contrast, the people against Prop 227, state that the Prop creates too much chaos and does not
support every learner. Adaptations and modifications are not allowed for non native English
speakers (i.e. all public school instruction will be conducted in English) (Linton, 2007). The change
from bilingual education to English Immersion was of great confusion for both students and
parents, due to the sudden change in consistency between districts, school, and teachers. Prop 227
threatened teachers and administration with legal penalties if they tried to teach or a help a student
in a foreign language. Some that are opposed to Prop 227,

The Element Magnesium
Although we know that Magnesium was discovered in 1755, the scientist that discovered it is still
disputed today. One source reveals, the first person to recognize that magnesium was an element
was Joseph Black at Edinburgh (Magnesium). But others accredit Sir Humphry Davy an English
chemist, through the electrolysis of a mixture (The Element Magnesium). While the chemist may
not be decided on, magnesium has become a very effective substance through history. Magnesium
is the lightest metal that can be used to build things, although its use as a structural material is
limited since it burns at relatively low temperatures (The Element Magnesium). This became a
large benefit to the Germans in WWII. Magnesium aluminum alloys are used where strong,
lightweight materials are required, such as in airplanes, missiles, and rockets (The Element
Magnesium). Magnesium can be located on the far left side of the periodic table. It classified
under the Alakine Earth Metal family and it is also grouped as a metal (The Element Magnesium).
Magnesium is in a solid state at normal atmospheric conditions. ... Show more content on

Emotional Child Abuse Essay
Emotional child abuse involves putting a child in very stressful and psychologically damaging
situations. Emotional abuse involves coercive, demeaning, or very distant behavior by a parent
or caretaker that interferes with a child s normal mental or social development. Harm to the
child may or may not be intended. Emotional abuse may consist of actions that hurt a child s well
being or failure to meet a child s emotional needs. Such actions or neglect on the part of a
caretaker can cause serious and lasting emotional, mental, or behavioral problems in a child. This
can affect the child s ability to engage in normal social experiences and develop as a healthy adult.

Putting unreasonable standards or demands on a child.
Frightening, bullying, or verbally assaulting a child.
CAUSES
Emotional child abuse occurs at every social, economic, and educational level. It occurs in all
ethnic, cultural, and religious groups. Abuse often occurs over a long period of time. Emotional
child abuse may be more likely to occur in the following situations:
After an unplanned or difficult pregnancy, rape, or incest.
During stressful periods. This includes a family crisis, conflict between parents, unemployment, or
a family death.
If a child is born prematurely or has a serious illness or disability.
If the caretaker is dealing with stress from low income, substance abuse, long term health and
mental health problems, or crowded living conditions.
If the caretaker was a victim of abuse during childhood.
If the caretaker lacks social support and is socially isolated.
Caretakers may lack parenting skills and understanding of children s needs. They may make
unreasonable demands or hold unrealistic expectations of what the child can do. They may be very
critical of the child.

Choosing Unhampered Market Process
Analyse of what would happen if the steering (injection of money) would be abandoned and a
return to the unhampered market process was chosen instead.
Systems exist to maintain the society and bring prosperity, the monetary system is one and have
gone through different stages and uses in its development. Due to different needs, societies develop
at different pace so, the advantages and disadvantages of monetary system varies from one society
to another. Today, money is no more backed by commodity, not equal to gold reserves; it has only a
promissory standard. Thus no standard can effectively determine true money value as it is
constantly redefined by consumers with relative understanding of other products true values in the
market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is that it takes time to produce. The too much money injected in the economy is
chasing outputs of lesser values. Thus, less valuable products are produced and then kept alive in
the market with this artificial government money. The values of our commodities are now unreal
making them to cost much less than they would have in the unhampered market process.
In Finland as well as well as other western states, most people that bought apartments with
government backed loans could not have afforded it if the governments were not giving home loan
interest tax deductions. Some profit calculations in the housing market investments are based on
negative cash flow deductions and 100% deduction of the investment expenses. These types of
investments would crash if we return to the unhampered market process, as the government will
be unable to give those tax breaks or loan backups. All toxic firms that are creating ponzi schemes,
and service providers like cleaning companies ran by people who would not be in the business
without support money (startti raha) from the unemployment office will die off. There will be more
unemployed people.
Finland as a social welfare state cannot be the same in an unhampered market process because
government will not be a producer. Cheap public services like free education, cheap medical care
and social insurance like Kela would be more expensive.

Credit limits are set to manage the spending of their customers, this way Office Products Depot can
ensure that customers aren t purchasing too many goods. This means that if the customer is unable
to pay their account Office Products Depot loses say $2000 (a company s credit limit) rather than
$10000. To set these credit limits, Office Products Depot estimates the amount of moneythey
estimate the customer will spend over a two month period. This number is then rounded to the
nearest $500 to make recording credit limits easier. Customer payment of money owed is
managed by the same salesperson that the customer first dealt with, as they receive commission
based on money received by their particular customers. The salesperson is often in direct contact
with the customer to make sure the credit is being paid off. However, sometimes the credit limit
of a particular customer can be increased, if they have paid well in the past. An example of this is
Jones Stationery, who is $300 over their credit limit. When Office Products Depot sends invoices to
their customers, they send a separate tax invoice for each provided service. This makes the
customer more aware of the each individual charge. Monthly statements are also sent out aswell.
Refunds and reductions are also given occasionally to customers, to maintain a good relationship,
and fix incorrectly recorded charges. An example of this Office Products Depot

Heresy In Medieval Witchcraft
For us it is not lawful to introduce any doctrine of our own choosing, neither may we choose
some doctrine which someone else has introduced by his own choice. (Peters, 1980, p. 30). As
early as the second century CE, Christian writers, such as Tertullian (ca. 160 ca. 200 CE), began
defining what it was to be a heretic and what heresy could lead to (Peters, 1980, p. 29). Medieval
churchmen believed there was much to fear from heresy, but the practice of witchcraft was
especially troubling, as their greatest fears of heresy could be summoned by means of magic.
To better understand the Medieval churchmen s plight with witchcraft the subject of heresy must
first be examined. According to St. Isidore of Seville (ca. 570 636), heresy, derived from the
Greek word haeresis meaning choice, was given the name in view of the fact that each heretic, by
their own will, decided to teach and/or believe in heterodoxic manners (Peters, 1980, pp. 47, 49).
St. Isidore continues, stating, These heresies have risen against the Catholic faith and have been
condemned by the apostles, the holy Fathers, or the councils (Peters, 1980, p. 50) Thus, heresy can
aptly be defined as anything deviating specifically from the Catholic faith, not Christianity overall.
During the Medieval period, avid church goers and clergymen had many fears regarding heresy,
one of which was the spread of doubt within the faith. In a time when only churchmen could read
and write, it was their teachings of the

Dante s Inferno Irony Analysis
Dante Alighieri, as you know, was a religious Italian poet during the late middle ages who wrote
on of the most famous poems of all time: Dante s The Inferno. In The Inferno, like many of Dante
s other poems, he uses an array of literary devices that give his poems more depth and make a
specific point to the reader. One of the many literary devices that Dante utilizes throughout the
Infernois irony. Dante uses irony in two ways in the Inferno; first to illustrate to readers that what
you do in life comes full circle and haunts you in hell. The second way Dante uses irony in this
poem is in specific characters Dante encounters in hell to add some comedy to the poem. Both
forms of irony, however, serve the purpose of touching the reader and... Show more content on

This usage of irony is used in certain characters in hell and it often has to do with why they are in
hell. Furthermore, the irony is portrayed in the stories that the sinners tell Dante about how they
wound up in hell. One example from the poem that shows this irony come from canto V where
Dante and Virgiltalk to Francesca and Paolo who tell them their story about how they wound up
in hell. Dante recounts their story, On a day for dalliance we read the rhyme of Lancelot, how
love had mastered him. We were alone with innocence and dim time. Pause after pause that high
old story drew our eyes together while we blushed and paled; but it was one soft passage
overthrew our caution and our hearts. For when we read how her fond smile was kissed by such
a lover, he who is one with me alive and dead breathed on my lips the tremor of his kiss. That
book, and he who wrote it, was a pander. That day we read no further. (Dante 39 40). In this
passage, Dante recounts the story of how Francesca and Paolo (Francesca s brother in law) read
a book and fall in love. Shortly thereafter, both of them are killed by the husband and they end up
in hell. In Christine Perkell s, Irony in the Underworlds of Dante and Virgil: Readings of
Francesca and Palinurus Author(s): Christine Perkell, Perkell exclaims, To summarize: As
Francesca tells her story, she inadvertently ironically reveals thГЁ justice of God s judgment in
placing her in Inferno. She fails to confess; she fails to take responsibility as a moral Christian
agent; she fails to see herself or her sin as God sees her and it. Perkell sees the irony in Francesca
s story just as Dante intended it to be. What is ironic about Francesca s story is that while she tries
to make Dante feel pity for her, she reveals to Dante the truth as to why she is in hell and the

Persuasive Speech On Snowboarding
Snowboarding is a sport where you can just let yourself go and be with nature up on the snow
topped mountains. Banning snow is a crazy act but in 1992 on March 30 Syracuse, New York
outlawed any more snowfall until December 24, 1992. Snowboarding brings many people together
and is a really great way to take advantage of the snow. Even though snowboardinghas not been
around very long it has sparked a lot of debates and thrill for many people and come along way.
Snowboarding has an amazing background and explanation of how it came to be. It all started with
the people who surfed and skateboarded. They wanted something similar to do in the winter.
Sherman Poppen was the creator of the snurfer (an early snowboard) in 1965. Sherman was one
of the skateboarders who wanted to surf but lived in Michigan. One day he nailed two skis
together and attached a rope with a handle to the front thus creating the snurfer. Sherman then

Indentured Servants Essay
In the seventeenth century, slaves and indentured servants were considered property. The
difference between the two groups of people, is slavery lasted a lifetime while indentured servants
labor lasted for four to six years until the servant were able to pay their owner back. So under these
circumstances, slaves and indentured servants lives were very similar but also different. Based on
their clothing and the skills they had, slaves and indentured servantlifestyles were different.
Clothing seemed like a huge factor in the ads in 1738, because it showed the difference between a
slave and indentured servant. Both of these groups could not choose what type of clothing they had

Franz Liszt was a Great Romantic Composer
According to De Portales, Liszt had a struggle in himself between the virtuoso and the composer
and he knew that he had to choose. He chose to go with the composer and in 1847 his virtuoso
career was over (De Portales 111 112). Another reason he made the choice was that in 1847 Liszt
once again fell in love upon meeting a princess, named Carolyne Sayn Wittgenstein, in Kiev. She
gave him a large sum of money after a charity concert and he deeply desired to meet her to thank
her (De Pourtales 117). They met and fell in love. In 1848, after knowing each other for a couple
of months they went back to Weimar together, even though she was married to another man (De
Pourtales 121 122). Liszt accepted a job at the Grand Duke of Weimar s court and became the
Kapellmeister in Weimar and also the conductor (Perenyi 238, Kamien 238). This even though it
by the romantic era was more normal for musicians to be independent ( Liszt, Franz ). His reason
was not because he needed money, he was the first pianist performer who could support himself by
doing what he did, he wanted to start composing (Franz Liszt). He stayed at his position in Weimar
from 1848 until 1861 ( Liszt, Franz ). His new orchestra one of the first in Germany (De Portales

to give them better pay and better pensions. The orchestra had 45 members ( Liszt, Franz ), which

Jimi Hendrix Creative Writing
The only thing that kept us going was the hope that there would be righteous music to rock out
to. We heard of all the funky artist that would be there such as The Who, Jimi Hendrix, the
Grateful Dead. As we finally made it to the field after an unbearable fifty mile long backup of
wheels. We saw the largest amount of people ever. It was packed. All that could be seen was a
sea of people in bellbottoms and flowing shirts. Most people didn t have shoes on. Everyone
was setting up camp, whither that meant getting their van ready or setting up a tent like us. We
patiently waited for noon to come around when the music would finally start. It took us a while
to get to the performance area because of the mad amount of people that were in the area. The
music had just started and you could feel the laid back nature of everything that was going on.
The spirit of peace was connecting us beautiful people all together and I could tell this was going

One of the main points of discussion is the idea of the fanatic itself and how fandom is an

with the complex psychology of the word through anthropological and psychoanalytical work on

embarrassment of being associated with what some might deem as crazy or superficial. The
definition of fan has altered over time, with it becoming increasingly negative. Many fans even shy

Zoom Car Company was not aware the equipment was faulty. In fact, if they would have known
that the product was defective, they would have disassembled the compasses, sent them back to
Corrigan Rulers Compasses and Slide Rules, Inc. and replaced them with another company s
product. As the Judge presiding over this case, I vote in the favor of the Plaintiff. Zoom Car
Company is responsible for making sure that every part of the vehicle is properly working
before placing on the sales lot and/or releasing to a purchaser. Because Zoom Car Company
failed to test the compass, they cannot be certain the compass was in fact working at the time of
purchase. Zoom Car Company is to pay Mr. Boone s past and future medical expenses and loss
of wages and punitive damages in the amount of $ 3, 321, 000 to Mr. Boone. (93) In my personal
opinion, Mr. Boone could have been more aware of his surroundings while driving in an
unfamiliar area and should not have trusted the compass fully. It was not his fault that the
compass was faulty, but as the Defense stated he should have had more common sense and paid
better attention to where he was driving. Additionally, as a consumer, I would never think to

CAUSATION OF HOMOSEXUALITY 2
Abstract
There are two main schools of thought regarding the causation of homosexuality. The first,
which is examined in this research, is biological cause. Three main categories of thought
exist under biological theory: hormone theory, brain theory, and genetic theory. Each
category contains convincing evidence as to why its respective variations should be attributed
to provoking homosexuality. Hormone theory maintains that abnormal levels of testosterone
expose whether too great or too little is responsible for masculinizing or feminizing
the fetus and thus altering its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study of its causation, however, has been greatly expanded only within past two
centuries. Many theories have been formulated to attempt to explain what causes sexual
variance, and in particular, homosexuality. These theories can be grouped into two main
categories: nature and nurture. The theories which fall under the nature category maintain
that homosexual behavior results from biological, innate differences between homosexuals
and heterosexuals. The nurture theories, in contrast, state that homosexual tendencies form
as a result of one s sociological environment, and that homosexuality is an acquired trait.
Recent research, however, indicates a stronger assumption towards biological causes of
homosexuality and leads one to question the validity of the nurture theories in influencing
homosexual behavior.
Nature Theories
Theories crediting homosexual behavior to natural, biological factors take many
different routes. The three main subcategories of biological theories include hormone theory,
brain theory, and genetic theory. Although neither the nature nor the nurture theories are
entirely conclusive, recent research suggests more of a correlation between biological
theories on the causation of homosexuality as opposed to sociological theories.
Hormone Theory
Several studies have been conducted in an attempt to prove the

Directing Courses For Exploration With The Body And Voice
I believe it is essential that acting and directing courses provide room for exploration with the
body and voice both discretely and within the context of more traditional scene work. I believe in
offering several forms of technique rather than one method that must be followed without room for
questioning, self assessment, and thoughtful critique. I approach director training and new works
creation together, combining traditional directing, Viewpoints and composition work, and new
works creation as series of inquiries addressing those practices pivotal in developing directors:
finding the essence of the story and cultivating deep listening, focus, and an awareness of time and
space. As a creator and teacher of movement based theatre, I believe it is crucial for student actors
and directors to cultivate a personal relationship to space, time, and their own bodies. In order for
students to move beyond the phase of trying to get something right and into thinking critically
about creation and the storytelling potential of movement, I stress the importance of laboratory
exploration. The goal is the journey, the investigation, the experimentation, and the increasing
knowledge of self. I encourage fearlessness. And I remind my students there is no such thing as a
bad movement: we are investigating and creating, not judging. To begin to utilize the body for
theatrical creation, the first and foremost task is the development of awareness of self and
awareness of space. I use

ANALYTICAL ESSAY How do individual differences (e.g., personality, value, perceptions,
attitudes, motivation and performance) affect team dynamics? The importance of groups and teams
have become a major focus in the business world today. Organizations have started to realize that
the evolution from an individual to a team management approach is a priority in present day. The
reality is that much of an organization s work is accomplished directly or indirectly through teams,

By being open in a team, the other members will be able to communicate their ideas and be
confident about it. Conscientiousness refers to the degree to which a person is organized,
systematic, punctual, achievement oriented, and dependable. Conscientiousness is the one
personality trait that uniformly predicts how high a person s performance will be across a
variety of occupations and jobs. This personality trait makes it easier to work in a team and keep
all members on board. Once they are hired, conscientious people not only tend to perform well,
but they also have higher levels of motivation to perform, lower levels of turnover, lower levels
of absenteeism, and higher levels of safety performance at work. Extraversion is the degree to
which a person is outgoing, talkative, sociable, and enjoys socializing. Extraverts do well in
social situations, and, as a result, they tend to be effective in job interviews. Part of this success
comes from preparation, as they are likely to use their social network to prepare for the interview.
(Roberts, B. W., Walton, K. E., Viechtbauer, W,2006). Extraverts have an easier time than
introverts do when adjusting to a new job. Moreover, they are not necessarily model employees.
For example, they tend to have higher levels of absenteeism at work, potentially because they may
miss work to hang out with or attend to the needs of their friends. Agreeableness is the degree to

The company now embarks on a series of investment rounds that bring it closer to an IPO and a

First, the company needed more seed money to continue scaling the business it wanted to move

So, there is a Series A round in 2005.

The Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruiser
The Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser is a large and powerful surface combatant in the
United States Navy. The cruiser has the ability to engage short range air, undersea and surface
targets, as well as a long range strike capability. With around 300 crew and 30 officers (Navy 4),
this billion dollar warship (Navy 4) can serve in many roles when it comes to the mission of the
United States Navy. The Ticonderoga class cruisers primary mission is to provide anti air and long
range combat capabilities. The advanced Aegis combat system, coupled with the Tomahawk
missile, gives the cruisera much longer range than most other ships in the Navy. The cruiser was
initially slated as a DDG (Polmar 4); however, with the addition of the AEGIS, the USS
Ticonderoga (CG 47) was designated a CG on January 1, 1980 (FAS 5). Not long after, the keel
was laid on January 27, 1980 (FAS 5) and the project went into full effect. The USS Ticonderoga
served all over the world fighting in places such as the Persian Gulf, the Mediterranean,
Operation Desert Shield and many others. The USS Ticonderoga was the first ship to be deployed
with the AEGIS weapons system, the most sophisticated air defense system in the world. The first

Hegemonic Masculinity Analysis
Reserving the cultural power and importance of gaming for the male audience effectively forms a
gender hierarchy, which is the definition of hegemonic masculinity (Connell, 2005). This concept is
a theoretical perspective combining Gramsci s analysis of class relations with gender studies to
illustrate how gendercan shape society. Connell defines hegemonic masculinityas a gender practice
which embodies the currently accepted answer to the problem of the legitimacy of patriarchy,
which guarantees (or is taken to guarantee) the dominant position of men and the subordination of
women (Connell, 2005, p. 77). Therefore, in the context of the videogames industry and the gaming
press, because men have always been, and continue to be perceived as, the dominant audience, they
and not women, will remain the principal group courted by these institutions, which effectively
reinforces the perception that gaming is a space owned by men where women are not... Show more

Euclid wrote one of the most famous books that is still used today. This was not the first time that
people wrote about mathematics. Many other people developed some of the theories he presented.
Euclid was the first person to write a complete review of all geometry. Euclid is also famous for his
theories on other parts of life. Today we understand Ancient Greek culture as classical. Euclid was
in Greek culture at the time as a scholar. Books 7, 8, and 9 introduce the reader to arithmetic and
the theory of rational numbers. Book 10 is the difficult subject of irrational numbers. The remaining
three books are about elementary solid geometry. It should be noted that the elements discuss
several problems, which then turns into algebra. But Euclid treats algebra in geometric terms.
Euclid showed development of a new proof for the Pythagorean Theorem, the theory that only one
parallel to a line can be drawn through any point. Modern mathematicians have maintained that no
proof is possible; Euclid may be excused for not providing one. Spherical geometry is represented
by the Phainomena, which is astronomical text based in part on a work of Autolycus of Pitane, a
slightly older contemporary. Euclid wrote on music, there is no other ancient work of science; it
needs a little revision to make it current. Other Hellenistic mathematicians such as, Hero, Pappus,

Revenge In Beowulf
Beowulf
Revenge is a dish best served cold. Revenge is a major theme of the epic poem, Beowulf .
Beowulf is a poem that was written around 750 A.D., but was most likely orally passed down
before then. The original copy of Beowulf was partially damaged in the fire and since this was the
only copy it had to be rewritten. The monks kept what they could savage and added to it what they
thought was best. It is suspected that the monks added a Christ twist to the pagan story, but what
was kept was the theme of revenge. Revenge is a common element throughout the epic poem of
Beowulf, the antagonists of the story seek revenge in different ways, but the hero does not; he
repays a debt that is not his own. First, Beowulf is the hero ... Show more content on

believe in him as much as they once did and they backed away from the dragon, all of them
except for one, Wiglaf. Wiglaf stuck by Beowulf s side until not only the dragon was killed, but

Contemporary Form Of Materialism In The Women And Mildred...
Two films released amidst the years of the post American Great Depression and World War II, The
Women and Mildred Pierce, both similarly explore the issues surrounding the contemporary form
of materialism that has made itself present in society. The economic boom the war provided
America birthed a new form of ultra consumerism that swept the nation, changing everything in a
matter of years. These films act as social commentaries in such a way they are able to highlight the
impact materialism has made in all aspects of both the rich and middle class during this span in
American history. George Cukorintroduces this as one of his main themes throughout his film The
Women. Using it to act as a key motivating factor for his character Mary Haines, a housewife and
mother seemingly trapped in a marriage with a cheating husband due to the luxurious lifestyleit
provides. All the other women in this film find themselves in similar situations yet none speak
against what is happening in fear of losing their possessions and comfortability. Similarly, Michael
Curtizs Mildred Pierce, uses the desire for things such as clothes, houses, and a generally
expensive lifestyle as driving factors for both Mildred Pierce and her Daughter, Veda. Veda
Pierce has been raised in a home where she has always received anything she s wanted. As she
grows up we find her desires have amassed to an all time high. So much so when she learns her
mother won t be able to give her the opulent life she yearns

Causes Of The Pequot War
The Pequot War started in 1636 and ended in 1637. The war consisted of the Pequot people and a
coalition of English settlers from the Massachusetts Bay. It was a brutal war and was the first
sustained conflict between Native Americans and Europeans in northeastern North America.
The primary cause of the Pequot Warwas the struggle to control trade. The Dutch brought on
economic, political, and cultural changes when they arrived on Long Island and in the Connecticut
River valley at the beginning of the 17th century and of English traders and settlers in the early
1630s. The world they entered into was dominated by the Pequot. The root of the Pequot War was
the struggle for control of the fur and wampum trade in the Connecticut River valley. Before the
arrival of the English in the early 1630s, the Dutch and Pequot controlled all the region s trade.
The situation was precarious because of the resentment held by the subservient Native American
tribes for their Pequot overlords. So, when the English wanted to join in on the scene, those other
tribes sought alliance with them, shifting the balance of regional power. This brought conflict as
the competition for control of trade escalated quickly. As tensions grew between all parties, the
murder of trader John Oldham by the Manisses Indians of Block Island in July, 1636 resulted in a
military response by the English of Massachusetts Bay that led directly to the Pequot War. This was
the beginning of the Pequot War.

Roe V. Wade Analysis
I. Introduction This paper will look at arguments that scholars, especially Catherine MacKinnon and
Reva Siegel, offer in support of the view that the principle of equal protection is better than the
Supreme Court s principle of privacy related liberty as the constitutional grounds for abortion rights.
The United States Supreme Court held in Roe v. Wadethat the right of privacy also includes a
woman s right to get an abortion. Abortion policy involves women s privacy and equality (Siegel
1992). A constitutional analysis of abortion that draws on the language from the Fourteenth
Amendment of liberty and equal protection would work well with the reality that many of the key
concerns behind personal privacy arguments are like. I think that... Show more content on

Wade decision inspires many types of analyses, solutions, and criticisms. One solution is that the
Court could shift its focus in abortion cases and view abortion rights as raising issues of
inequality. This would mean to present the issue of a woman s right to take complete charge of
her life and destiny as well as of her position in society in relation to man. This approach is
probably the most appropriate solution to the dilemma in Roe because it avoids the trimester
analysis and avoids the due process

The Years 1918-1939, Which Separate World War I From World
The years 1918 1939, which separate World War I from World War II, witnessed profound changes
in how technologically advanced military organizations would fight. In most of the cases, during
peacetime, military innovation, and technological developments played an empowering or helping
role in advancing profoundly new and more operative ways of fighting. In a narrow and strict
sense, such innovative improvements were revolutionary. The technological revolution reached the
battlefields and forever changed the way that armies required from the fragile airplanes and
unreliable tanks of World War Ito evolve into more sophisticated weapons by the late 1930s.

These principles are known as Die Truppenfuhrung and shaped the framework for the preparation
and conduct of ground operations during World War II. This studies emphasized friction and
uncertainty. It requires responsibility and exercises judgment for junior officers in the battlefield. It
also focuses on the greater use of armored combined to army capabilities on maneuver.
Consequently, to the influence of World War I boosted Germany to develop early by the 1920s the
coherent combined arms doctrine that focused on decentralization command and control or mission
type orders, speeding, surprising, or the aggressive exploitation of every weakness in enemy
defensive systems.
One of the lessons learned after the first world conflict is the necessity of using the third
dimension on military operations. That assumption has been conceptualizing by theorist through
doctrine and implements differently from one country to another. The doctrine concerning air
force warfare was a direct influence of World War I as a revolution on this domain. The challenge
of many military theorists concerned the emergence of the aircraft as a weapon and the adaptation
of this emerging capability on military operations. One of the Airpower advocates Giulio Douhet
consider the airpower as a tool to use to avoid trench warfare and dramatically shorten wars. Thus,
aircraft would attack an enemy s sources of assets and it is the key to destroying the

Musical Critique
One way I became more involved in university life by going to Oklahoma!. Not the state, but rather
the musical put on by the university. My suitemate Anna auditioned to be a part of it, and when she
got the part, she invited us all to watch opening night on November 13th.
I had been to a few musicals near my hometown, but they were rather lackluster and not very well
produced. This left a sour taste in my mouth when it came to amateur theatre performances, so I
hesitated in buying tickets for Oklahoma!. When I talked to my teaching assistant, she persuaded
me to give it a try because I might have a very different experience. I am glad that I went, because
the performance was a very vibrant show that meshed the excitement of college students with the
pioneer lifestyle of the great plains.
The musical was very lively, portraying life in the territory of Oklahoma, and focuses on several
young couples attending the local formal. Laurey is invited by Curley to a dance, but she decides
to go with the farmhand Jud instead to make Curley jealous. Curley attempts to win her back
because he feels that Jud is dangerous and disgusting, and he is in love with Laurey.
Simultaneously, Ado Annie cannot make up her mind which man she will marry, Will or the
peddler Ali Hakim. Will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found Oklahoma! to be very entertaining and hilarious, but it also included some dark aspects,
such as date rape and suicide. The way the writers integrated these darker scenes kept the musical
from being too lighthearted, but still relevant and enjoyable to the audiences. Secondly, this
musical increased my appreciation for the arts. From my previous experiences in live theatres, I
was not expecting the actors to be so well rounded in singing, acting and dancing. Although I am
not inclined to act in front of an audience, I really enjoyed the show and plan to attend more
musicals on stage next

Defense Of Insanity
The Butler Committee recommended that proof of severe mental disorder should be sufficient to
negate responsibility. This would create a presumption of no criminal liability where this is proof
of a mental disorder. However, this assumes that a lack of criminal responsibility simply because of
a mental dysfunction is evident, rather than establishing a standard of criminal responsibility. This
questions the application of insanityto all crimes rather than those involving mens rea only.
Another criticism of the defence of insanity is that at a trial involving a plea of insanity there will
be conflicting medical evidence given by both the prosecution and the defence, however the final
decision of whether the D is legally insane or not is

  • 2. Essay on Hypochondriasis as A Mental Disorder Hypochondriasis as A Mental Disorder Headache = Tumor. Cough = Tuberculosis. Mole = Skin Cancer. Such is the thought process of a hypochodriac. As defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV (DSM IV), hypochondriasis is an unrealistic interpretation of one s bodily sensations as abnormal, leading to the fear and belief that one has a serious disease (1). This preoccupation with having a serious medical condition is one of the somatoform disorders and may be considered more as a symptom than a disease. In fact, hypochondriacal symptoms often appear as a part of other mental disorders, including forms of depression or schizophrenia (2). For this reason, a close investigation of hypochondriacal behavior is necessary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With numbers such as these, the issue of understanding more about these symptoms has become important within the medical world. These pursuits have resulted in four etiologic theories regarding hypochondriasis, a combination of which could hold the answers to this disorder. The first of these theories relates to the amplification of normal bodily sensations, or when individuals ...attribute pathologic meanings to normal somatic sensations and functions. An example of this would be to attribute swollen lymph nodes to a malignant disease, as opposed to a simple viral infection. The consequences mostly affect the individual s psychological and behavioral well being, which leads to the focus of the second theory. Based on Freud s psychodynamic hypotheses, there is a belief that unconscious conflicts are the result of traumatic or frustrating childhood experiences being reawakened in adult life by similar stress or frustration. Consequently, particularly high stress/tension situations could arouse subconscious feelings of guilt, anxiety, and fear for a person, and their inability to express these emotions verbally may lead to physical manifestations of conflict. The remaining two theories take a more behavioral oriented approach. The third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Demonstration Of Corruption In The Statue Of Liberty Another demonstration of corruption is between Evey and the bishop. V plans for Evey to disguise herself as a young religious girl and to get in contact with the bishop. While the bishop attends to Evey, he suggests to do a religious activity and directs her to a bedroom. Wary of the bishop s actions, Evey distracts him until he interrupts, Now take off your clothes please...Oh nevermind, allow me to (Moore 53). The bishop is associated with religious authority, meaning that he has power in the church. The irony is that he is supposed to be practicing ethics, considering the religious aspects that he involves himself in. However, the bishop nearly sexually harassed Evey, which is against the common knowledge of religious authority. The victims... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In anarchy, everyone is responsible for themselves, without government interference. However, Moore expresses his thoughts about freedom through his character, V. One example is V visiting the Statue of Liberty and having a brief discussion on the idea of freedom (Moore 40 41). The Statue of Liberty associates with the idea of freedom and justice. It is in the belief that the country is free, since the Statue of Liberty is publicly exposed to demonstrate the country s freedom. V questions whether the country the truly free. He introduces his fascination of his preferred system of government, since he no longer sees the freedom that the country promises. He states, [Anarchy] has taught me that justice is meaningless without freedom. She is honest. She makes no promises and breaks none. Unlike like you, Jezebel (Moore 41). V suggests that the people can only obtain freedom if they are able to fight for justice. Instead of continuing to believe the promise of freedom by the government, V chooses to obtain freedom himself. On the bottom left panel, the Statue of Liberty explodes due to V. This represents how V is no longer willing to have false hope of the government. He is abandoning the ideals of the fascist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Nuremberg Trial In Criminal Justice The history of international trials is largely limited to the Nuremberg Tribunals and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. However, these limited historical precedents, with an imperfect body of jurisprudence from which to draw, afford one objective: the search for justice. This justice, however, is victim to the political will that drives trials (Goldstone, quoted in Historical Evolution From Nuremberg to the International Criminal Court ). Thus, although justice is usually the preeminent focus for a post conflict society, it is also the most difficult to attain (Hayner, 8). From a different perspective, one may see the most significant limitation of international trials to be their subordination to international political will.... He was an American poet, journalist and also an essayist. Whitman had a huge impact on poetry. He is considered to be one of the most influential poets in history and his styles of writing were extremely unique. In his own special way he was known to be very intellectual, and an unusually different poet. He was also described as power seeking, bisexual, and quirky. In the nineteenth century poets weren t all that admirable, and he was especially looked down on for his sexuality. The sexuality of Whitman is believed to have something to do with his writing and it is believed that he had some kind of personal struggle with his sexuality as well. He finally realized that he was homosexual after he had a handful of unsuccessful sexual tries. When he reached this realization, it gave his imagination more power in his poems. Whitman was admired by many, and after he became extremely well known he found nicknames such as The Bard of Democracy and The Good Grey Poet (Feldman 438) He was sought out to be one of the greatest poets because of the material he placed in his compositions for the world to see. Eldridge, William O Connor and John Burroughs, a small group who admired Whitman, gathered in Washington to participate in the Walt Whitman movement. C.K. • 6. Why Girls Are Dumb Why Girls Are Dumb Girls are dumb for a million reasons. What causes girls to become selfish, fake, annoying bitches? Well, the world may never know. Why are girls so different from boys? They are not that different are They? Girls are dumb because instead of confronting people to their face, girls hide behind anything they can. Girls are also dumb because they choose to see the bad in everyone instead of the good and they also have a habit of being afraid to admit when we are wrong. They make bullies out of themselves, sometimes not knowing it. Girls always tend to hide behind anything they can so they do not have to actually go and talk about their problems to another girlface to face. Talking to girls face to face is a whole lot better than messaging them via text, email, snapchat, facebook messenger, or even calling them. Nothing is the same as face to face because when you are with a person face to face you can see their reaction, their facial expressions, and tears. Straying away from the main point, but, why are girls so scared of those reactions? That is what makes us human. Having emotions is what makes us who we are. Who would we be without emotions? We would not be human. God created us with emotions with emotions for a reason. Back on track, girls that do not confront people face to face are scared and insecure of them own selves, so they try to make others insecure about themselves by talking crap about other people but being too scared to talk to them face to face. Sometimes, girls think they are doing the right thing by confronting someone through via phone texting or calling, because confronting them through phone is better than not confronting them at all, but in reality, it does not help anything at all. Confronting them through phone is almost as bad as not confronting anyone at all. Facetime is still not the same as face to face. Another reasons why girls are so dumb is because they choose to see the bad in everyone instead of the good. Yes, people make bad decisions sometimes, sometimes they do things they regret, and, again, it is what makes us human. Nobody became who they are today without making any mistakes. Mistakes can mold people into a better, smarter and wiser person if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Thomas Jefferson Social Contract Theory Morgan Hobbs Mr. Anderson Government 21 November 2016 Social Contract Theory In terms of the American political system, the most significant of the theories of the origin of the state is that of the Social Contract . Philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes, James Harrington, and John Locke in england and Jean Jacques Rousseau in France developed this theory in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Hobbes wrote that in earliest history humans lived in unbridled freedom, in a state of nature, in which no government existed and no person was subject to any superior power (Magruder s American Government). That which people could take byforce belonged to them. However, all people were similarly free in thes state of nature. No authority existed to protect one person from the aggressive actions of another. Thus, individuals were only safe as their own physical strength and intelligence could make them. Human beings overcame their unpleasant condition, says the social contract theory, by agreeing with one another to create a state. • 9. Prop 227 Points of Contention Essay What are the main points of contention surrounding this issue? Be sure to thoroughly discuss contrasting perspectives and the underlying reasons explaining the different positions people take on this topic. The main arguments surrounding Prop 227, is whether or not bilingual programs should be in schools in California. Some argue that having bilingual programs doesn t help the student to learn English, it just reinforces their native language. Also it has be said that test scores supposedly did not improve in the bilingual programs. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem with both bilingual education and English as a second language instruction in the United States lies in our unwillingness to treat English for non speakers as an academic subject (Haas, 2007). While the bilingual programs in California are thought to be mostly for people who speak Spanish, there are also Asian students that need to be taught proper English before continuing their education. As one anonymous teacher points out: I have had 32 different languages spoken in my classroom over a 25 year period. Eighty four languages are spoken in our district. (Anon 1998 Haas 2007). Which for most teachers mean that it is both educationally and economically impossible to teach every student in their own native language. In contrast, the people against Prop 227, state that the Prop creates too much chaos and does not support every learner. Adaptations and modifications are not allowed for non native English speakers (i.e. all public school instruction will be conducted in English) (Linton, 2007). The change from bilingual education to English Immersion was of great confusion for both students and parents, due to the sudden change in consistency between districts, school, and teachers. Prop 227 threatened teachers and administration with legal penalties if they tried to teach or a help a student in a foreign language. Some that are opposed to Prop 227, ... One source reveals, the first person to recognize that magnesium was an element was Joseph Black at Edinburgh (Magnesium). But others accredit Sir Humphry Davy an English chemist, through the electrolysis of a mixture (The Element Magnesium). While the chemist may not be decided on, magnesium has become a very effective substance through history. Magnesium is the lightest metal that can be used to build things, although its use as a structural material is limited since it burns at relatively low temperatures (The Element Magnesium). This became a large benefit to the Germans in WWII. Magnesium aluminum alloys are used where strong, lightweight materials are required, such as in airplanes, missiles, and rockets (The Element Magnesium). Systems exist to maintain the society and bring prosperity, the monetary system is one and have gone through different stages and uses in its development. Due to different needs, societies develop at different pace so, the advantages and disadvantages of monetary system varies from one society to another. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem is that it takes time to produce. The too much money injected in the economy is chasing outputs of lesser values. Thus, less valuable products are produced and then kept alive in the market with this artificial government money. The values of our commodities are now unreal making them to cost much less than they would have in the unhampered market process. In Finland as well as well as other western states, most people that bought apartments with government backed loans could not have afforded it if the governments were not giving home loan interest tax deductions. Some profit calculations in the housing market investments are based on negative cash flow deductions and 100% deduction of the investment expenses. These types of investments would crash if we return to the unhampered market process, as the government will be unable to give those tax breaks or loan backups. All toxic firms that are creating ponzi schemes, and service providers like cleaning companies ran by people who would not be in the business without support money (startti raha) from the unemployment office will die off. • 14. Heresy In Medieval Witchcraft For us it is not lawful to introduce any doctrine of our own choosing, neither may we choose some doctrine which someone else has introduced by his own choice. (Peters, 1980, p. 30). As early as the second century CE, Christian writers, such as Tertullian (ca. 160 ca. 200 CE), began defining what it was to be a heretic and what heresy could lead to (Peters, 1980, p. 29). Medieval churchmen believed there was much to fear from heresy, but the practice of witchcraft was especially troubling, as their greatest fears of heresy could be summoned by means of magic. To better understand the Medieval churchmen s plight with witchcraft the subject of heresy must first be examined. According to St. Isidore of Seville (ca. 570 636), heresy, derived from the Greek word haeresis meaning choice, was given the name in view of the fact that each heretic, by their own will, decided to teach and/or believe in heterodoxic manners (Peters, 1980, pp. 47, 49). St. Isidore continues, stating, These heresies have risen against the Catholic faith and have been condemned by the apostles, the holy Fathers, or the councils (Peters, 1980, p. 50) Thus, heresy can aptly be defined as anything deviating specifically from the Catholic faith, not Christianity overall. During the Medieval period, avid church goers and clergymen had many fears regarding heresy, one of which was the spread of doubt within the faith. In The Inferno, like many of Dante s other poems, he uses an array of literary devices that give his poems more depth and make a specific point to the reader. One of the many literary devices that Dante utilizes throughout the Infernois irony. Dante uses irony in two ways in the Inferno; first to illustrate to readers that what you do in life comes full circle and haunts you in hell. This usage of irony is used in certain characters in hell and it often has to do with why they are in hell. Furthermore, the irony is portrayed in the stories that the sinners tell Dante about how they wound up in hell. One example from the poem that shows this irony come from canto V where Dante and Virgiltalk to Francesca and Paolo who tell them their story about how they wound up in hell. Dante recounts their story, On a day for dalliance we read the rhyme of Lancelot, how love had mastered him. We were alone with innocence and dim time. Pause after pause that high old story drew our eyes together while we blushed and paled; but it was one soft passage overthrew our caution and our hearts. For when we read how her fond smile was kissed by such a lover, he who is one with me alive and dead breathed on my lips the tremor of his kiss. That book, and he who wrote it, was a pander. That day we read no further. (Dante 39 40). In this passage, Dante recounts the story of how Francesca and Paolo (Francesca s brother in law) read a book and fall in love. Shortly thereafter, both of them are killed by the husband and they end up in hell. In Christine Perkell s, Irony in the Underworlds of Dante and Virgil: Readings of Francesca and Palinurus Author(s): Christine Perkell, Perkell exclaims, To summarize: As Francesca tells her story, she inadvertently ironically reveals thГЁ justice of God s judgment in placing her in Inferno. She fails to confess; she fails to take responsibility as a moral Christian agent; she fails to see herself or her sin as God sees her and it. Snowboarding has an amazing background and explanation of how it came to be. It all started with the people who surfed and skateboarded. They wanted something similar to do in the winter. Sherman Poppen was the creator of the snurfer (an early snowboard) in 1965. Sherman was one of the skateboarders who wanted to surf but lived in Michigan. One day he nailed two skis together and attached a rope with a handle to the front thus creating the snurfer. Sherman then called his friends, who were engineers for the Brunswick Corporation and asked them to make some of the snurfers. The Brunswick Corporation made skis, bowling balls, bowling alleys, and bowling pins. The snurfer took the world by storm, but people wanted a safe way to ride. Eventually Jake Burton Carpenter started making a new model called the ski board and this was the first company for snowboards. Jake Burton was a Stockbroker who fell in love with snowboarding and decided to take the risk and start making them. He became the founder of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He chose to go with the composer and in 1847 his virtuoso career was over (De Portales 111 112). Another reason he made the choice was that in 1847 Liszt once again fell in love upon meeting a princess, named Carolyne Sayn Wittgenstein, in Kiev. Directing Courses For Exploration With The Body And Voice I believe it is essential that acting and directing courses provide room for exploration with the body and voice both discretely and within the context of more traditional scene work. I believe in offering several forms of technique rather than one method that must be followed without room for questioning, self assessment, and thoughtful critique. I approach director training and new works creation together, combining traditional directing, Viewpoints and composition work, and new works creation as series of inquiries addressing those practices pivotal in developing directors: finding the essence of the story and cultivating deep listening, focus, and an awareness of time and space. As a creator and teacher of movement based theatre, I believe it is crucial for student actors and directors to cultivate a personal relationship to space, time, and their own bodies. In order for students to move beyond the phase of trying to get something right and into thinking critically about creation and the storytelling potential of movement, I stress the importance of laboratory exploration. The goal is the journey, the investigation, the experimentation, and the increasing knowledge of self. I encourage fearlessness. And I remind my students there is no such thing as a bad movement: we are investigating and creating, not judging. To begin to utilize the body for theatrical creation, the first and foremost task is the development of awareness of self and awareness of space. I use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hegemonic Masculinity Analysis Reserving the cultural power and importance of gaming for the male audience effectively forms a gender hierarchy, which is the definition of hegemonic masculinity (Connell, 2005). Connell defines hegemonic masculinityas a gender practice which embodies the currently accepted answer to the problem of the legitimacy of patriarchy, which guarantees (or is taken to guarantee) the dominant position of men and the subordination of women (Connell, 2005, p. 77). Therefore, in the context of the videogames industry and the gaming press, because men have always been, and continue to be perceived as, the dominant audience, they and not women, will remain the principal group courted by these institutions, which effectively reinforces the perception that gaming is a space owned by men where women are not... • 43. Contemporary Form Of Materialism In The Women And Mildred... Two films released amidst the years of the post American Great Depression and World War II, The Women and Mildred Pierce, both similarly explore the issues surrounding the contemporary form of materialism that has made itself present in society. The economic boom the war provided America birthed a new form of ultra consumerism that swept the nation, changing everything in a matter of years. These films act as social commentaries in such a way they are able to highlight the impact materialism has made in all aspects of both the rich and middle class during this span in American history. George Cukorintroduces this as one of his main themes throughout his film The Women. Using it to act as a key motivating factor for his character Mary Haines, a housewife and mother seemingly trapped in a marriage with a cheating husband due to the luxurious lifestyleit provides. All the other women in this film find themselves in similar situations yet none speak against what is happening in fear of losing their possessions and comfortability. Similarly, Michael Curtizs Mildred Pierce, uses the desire for things such as clothes, houses, and a generally expensive lifestyle as driving factors for both Mildred Pierce and her Daughter, Veda. Veda Pierce has been raised in a home where she has always received anything she s wanted. As she grows up we find her desires have amassed to an all time high. • 45. Causes Of The Pequot War The Pequot War started in 1636 and ended in 1637. The war consisted of the Pequot people and a coalition of English settlers from the Massachusetts Bay. It was a brutal war and was the first sustained conflict between Native Americans and Europeans in northeastern North America. The primary cause of the Pequot Warwas the struggle to control trade. The Dutch brought on economic, political, and cultural changes when they arrived on Long Island and in the Connecticut River valley at the beginning of the 17th century and of English traders and settlers in the early 1630s. The world they entered into was dominated by the Pequot. The root of the Pequot War was the struggle for control of the fur and wampum trade in the Connecticut River valley. Before the arrival of the English in the early 1630s, the Dutch and Pequot controlled all the region s trade. The situation was precarious because of the resentment held by the subservient Native American tribes for their Pequot overlords. So, when the English wanted to join in on the scene, those other tribes sought alliance with them, shifting the balance of regional power. This brought conflict as the competition for control of trade escalated quickly. As tensions grew between all parties, the murder of trader John Oldham by the Manisses Indians of Block Island in July, 1636 resulted in a military response by the English of Massachusetts Bay that led directly to the Pequot War. This was the beginning of the Pequot War. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Roe V. Wade Analysis I. Introduction This paper will look at arguments that scholars, especially Catherine MacKinnon and Reva Siegel, offer in support of the view that the principle of equal protection is better than the Supreme Court s principle of privacy related liberty as the constitutional grounds for abortion rights. The United States Supreme Court held in Roe v. Wadethat the right of privacy also includes a woman s right to get an abortion. Abortion policy involves women s privacy and equality (Siegel 1992). A constitutional analysis of abortion that draws on the language from the Fourteenth Amendment of liberty and equal protection would work well with the reality that many of the key concerns behind personal privacy arguments are like. I think that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wade decision inspires many types of analyses, solutions, and criticisms. One solution is that the Court could shift its focus in abortion cases and view abortion rights as raising issues of inequality. This would mean to present the issue of a woman s right to take complete charge of her life and destiny as well as of her position in society in relation to man. This approach is probably the most appropriate solution to the dilemma in Roe because it avoids the trimester analysis and avoids the due process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Years 1918-1939, Which Separate World War I From World The years 1918 1939, which separate World War I from World War II, witnessed profound changes in how technologically advanced military organizations would fight. In most of the cases, during peacetime, military innovation, and technological developments played an empowering or helping role in advancing profoundly new and more operative ways of fighting. In a narrow and strict sense, such innovative improvements were revolutionary. The technological revolution reached the battlefields and forever changed the way that armies required from the fragile airplanes and unreliable tanks of World War Ito evolve into more sophisticated weapons by the late 1930s. • 49. Musical Critique One way I became more involved in university life by going to Oklahoma!. Not the state, but rather the musical put on by the university. My suitemate Anna auditioned to be a part of it, and when she got the part, she invited us all to watch opening night on November 13th. I had been to a few musicals near my hometown, but they were rather lackluster and not very well produced. This left a sour taste in my mouth when it came to amateur theatre performances, so I hesitated in buying tickets for Oklahoma!. When I talked to my teaching assistant, she persuaded me to give it a try because I might have a very different experience. I am glad that I went, because the performance was a very vibrant show that meshed the excitement of college students with the pioneer lifestyle of the great plains. The musical was very lively, portraying life in the territory of Oklahoma, and focuses on several young couples attending the local formal. Laurey is invited by Curley to a dance, but she decides to go with the farmhand Jud instead to make Curley jealous. • 51. Defense Of Insanity The Butler Committee recommended that proof of severe mental disorder should be sufficient to negate responsibility. This would create a presumption of no criminal liability where this is proof of a mental disorder. However, this assumes that a lack of criminal responsibility simply because of a mental dysfunction is evident, rather than establishing a standard of criminal responsibility. This questions the application of insanityto all crimes rather than those involving mens rea only. Another criticism of the defence of insanity is that at a trial involving a plea of insanity there will be conflicting medical evidence given by both the prosecution and the defence, however the final decision of whether the D is legally insane or not is ...
