The Glass Steagall Act
Despite its humble beginnings in 1844 as a simple general store turned financial firm, the
Lehman Brothers greed drove their firm into the ground. It seemed as if Lehman Brothers was
indestructible. Surviving through the railroad bankruptcies in the 1800 s, the Great Depression of
the 1930 s, two world wars, a capital shortage in 1994, and everything in between, it seemed the
firm was built to last. However its inevitable end started in the early 2000 s with the housing boom
after the repeal of the Glass Steagall act.
Over the span of two years, 2003 and 2004, Lehman Brothers acquired a total of five mortgage
lenders, including the subprime lender BNC and Alt A loan specialist Aurora Loan. As the
housing boom was under way and the firm acquired these large players its Lehman real estate
business s capital market revenues cascaded 56% over the next two years 2004 to 2006. It was a
faster rate of growth than other businesses in investment banking or asset management.
(Investopedia) Increasing its revenues by 10% from 2005 to 2006 when they securitized $146
billion worth of mortgages. It went from just being a player in the financial industry to the top
dog in the matter of a few short years. Consistently reporting the setting of new profit records
year after year. In 2007 its net income record was $4.2 billion on revenue of $19.3 billion.
(Investopedia) At the same time, in February of 2007, Lehman Brothers stock had hit its record too

Congratulations on your new investment in the lemonade truck, though I m sorry it s not going as
well as you would have liked. Lucky for you the IRS permits deductions for the expenses of
starting a new business. There are two requirements for a deduction on account of start up costs.
First, the payment must be paid in connection with creating a business. Within the past year you
have incurred several expenses in connection with starting the business: (1) $1,000 of your own
money as a down payment on the truck; (2) a $49,000 loan for the truck; (3) $750 for the
lemonade maker; and (4) $1,500 on lemons, sugar, and boba tea.
Second, the expenses must be one that is allowed as a deduction. To be deducted the expense
must be ordinary, necessary, and incurred during the taxable year in order to carry on the
business. In determining whether expenses are necessary, we look to the purpose in making the
payments and whether they have a connection to the business. In your case this would be to have
a place to run your business, and to have the equipment and inventory needed to make your
product. A necessary expense is one that is appropriate and helpful for the business. It is both
appropriate and extremely helpful to have a place

Princess Diana Influences
Princess Diana was known as the people s princess who stunned the world with her ability to
conquer any hurdles life threw at her. She also was known for showing the people that she cared.
Her sudden death left the world in shock, and many people say her touching story changed their
life. Princess Dianais an influential person because of her ability to overcome hardship, her
unconventional royal duties, her widely recognized charitable work, and the impact of her death.
Throughout the years of Princess Diana s life she showed her capability to overcome hardship,
and work through her pain to become someone the world would never forget. Her life began on
July 1, 1961, in her quiet hometown of Sandringham, England. Diana learned at an early age how
to deal with her rough family life. Her struggles began when her parents divorced when she was a
small child, further lessening her relationship with her parents. Her and her four other siblings
helped each other through that tough time.
Prince Charles first became interested in Princess Diana when she was 16, this is where their
love interest began. At the time he was dating her older sister, Lady Sarah. A few years later she
and Prince Charles begin talking. After becoming friends, and eventually lovers Prince Charles
and Diana Spencer (her maiden name) marry on July 29, 1981 now being formally known as
Diana, Princess of Wales. About a year after their marriage they have their first child together on

Theories Of Criminology And Criminal Behavior
In the early to mid 1800s there were a few perspectives introduced regarding how to determine
which individuals were more likely to commit criminal behavior. These perspectives were made
to identify and separate the more superior individuals from the inferior individuals. One of the
first examples of this belief was brought forth by craniometry. Craniometry is the belief that the
size of a person s brain and the skull can tell a person s superiority or inferiority in relation to
certain racial groups. During that time it was believed that the size of a person s skull directly
reflected the size of a person s brain. The larger the brain the more intelligent or superior the
person was. Many of the studies done by Craniometrists showed that people of White European
descent were superior to people of other ethnic or racial groups. These studies were deemed biased
and unethical because the researcher s knew which brains and skulls belonged to which racial
groups before the measurements were taken.
During the mid to late 1800 s Cesare Lombroso based his scientific theories of criminology on
Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection. Charles Darwin suggested that humans evolved from
primitive beings and that humans later evolved based on their ability to adapt to their environment.
The humans that are unable to adapt to their environment die off or become inferior. Lombroso
believed that certain individuals or groups of people were born to commit crime. In terms of

The Aircraft Wings Are The Primary Lift Producing Device...
The aircraft wings are the primary lift producing device for an aircraft. The aircraft wings are
designed aerodynamically to generate a lift force which is required in order for an aircraft to fly.
The basic goal of the wing is to generate lift and minimize drag as far as possible.
When the airflow passes the wing at any suitable angle of attack, a pressure differential is created.
A region of lower pressure is created over the top surface of the wing while, a region of higher
pressure is created under the surface of the wing. This difference in pressure creates a differential
force which acts upward, which is called lift.
For most aircrafts, where, the wings are the primary structures to generate lift, the aircraft s wings
must generate sufficient lift to carry the entire weight of an aircraft. In modern commercial, fighter
and jet aircraft, the aircraft wings are not only designed to provide the necessary lift during the
different phases of flight, but also have a variety of other roles and functions.
Wing Support:
Cantilevered All the structure is buried under the aerodynamic skin, giving a clean appearance with
low drag.
A cantilever is a rigid structural element, such as a beam or a plate, anchored at only one end to a
(usually vertical) support from which it is protruding. When subjected to a structural load, the
cantilever carries the load to the support where it is forced against by a moment and shear
stress.Cantilever construction allows for overhanging

Bye Birdie Vs Mcafee
There are many differences between Bye Bye Birdie s stage musical and its movie musical, and
these changes were not made without reason. One of the most noticeable changes is the seeming
role importance reversal of the show s two leading ladies: Kim MacAfee and Rosie Alvarez.
While in the stage musical, Rosie is a domineering, fierce woman with the ability to lead men
whichever way she wanted, and one who refused to back down to the objections of Albert s
nagging mother, in the movie she is dull, even during her musical numbers, and seems to go along
with whatever Albert and his mother instruct her to do. She seems more like a typical American
housewife in the making, even becoming fully Americanized; her name changing from Rosie
Alvarez in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul Lynde, who played Harry MacAfee in the show, even quoted that they should have just retitled
the film Hello, Ann Margret (McQueen 1). She is the most electrifying actress in the film from
start to finish, beginning with an iconic sequence in which Margret is moved back and forth on
an electric treadmill with a blue background behind her, singing a title song that was specifically
written for the movie and does not exist in the stage production (King 1). Although Margret s
performance of Kim is simply exquisite, she looks a bit old to play the role (she is 22 playing a
15 year old). However, this proved to be no problem for the film s screenwriter, Irving Brecher.
All of the changes in the film were made by Brecher, an MGM screenwriter who specialized in
movie musicals, most notably Meet Me in St. Louis, so it is no surprise that these changes were
made to fit the cookie cutter American musical style. Meet Me in St. Louis also featured Judy
Garland as the young, virtuous, leading female role whom audiences loved, so who better to follow
her up than Ann Margret

Graduate School Admission Essay Sample
No one in my immediate family has ever even had the good fortune to apply to a graduate school,
but I have always contemplated going to graduate school even before I began my undergraduate
career. That is the kind of person I am always strategizing my next plan of action. More
importantly, I have always understood the importance of having a master s degree. While I have
always had my heart set on attending graduate school, I was previously unsure about the specifics
of how I would earn my master s degree. Now I am confident that getting a Master of Health
Administration from Johns Hopkins Universitywould help me accomplish much more than simply
my career goals.
There are 3 fundamental reasons why I am applying to this program. First, this program would

By the time I graduate I will have been a part of the Zhu lab for 2 years. At the Zhu lab, I have

Drug Interaction between Metformin and LCZ696 . I was involved in every part of this project; my
colleagues and I designed this experiment, conducted it, troubleshot it, analyzed the results, and
even presented our findings at a symposium. The project used techniques like mass spectroscopy,
high perfromance liquid chromatography, and tissue cultures to observe the drug drug interaction.
While there were numerous obstacles because I had never participated in a project like this, and
there were times when the experiment was not working and we had to troubleshoot the problem, at
the end of the day, we always persevered. These projects were incredibly daunting, but, ultimately,
gratifying, and allowed me to develop fundamental research

Why Winter Driving Is Bad
As all long time residents know, Michigan winters can be brutal. However, even during a normal
winter, you can expect average temperatures that are below freezing for three months out of the
year and snowfall totals ranging between 44 inches and 55 inches. Keeping your pavement clear
throughout the winter typically involves frequent applications of salt or chemical deicers as well
as repeated snowplowing. Between the freeze/thaw cycle, the potential damage from snowplows
and the corrosive actions of deicing materials, your asphalt pavement can take a beating. If you
want to minimize the damage that winter can cause, you should make sure that you have cracks
repaired before the arrival of cold weather.

Difference Between Impressionism And Impressionism
Emily Musick

English Composition
31 January 2016
Realism and Impressionism Art has progressed in many ways throughout history; two prominent
styles however that define the evolution of art are Realism and Impressionism. Realism is defined
as treatment of forms, colors, space, etc., in such a manner as to emphasize their correspondence to
actuality or to ordinary visual experience (realism). Two artists that are well known for this style of
art are Gustave Courbet and Jean François Millet. Impressionism is defined as a style of painting
developed in the last third of the 19th century, characterized chiefly by short brushstrokes of bright
colors in immediate juxtaposition to represent the effect of light on objects (impressionism). Claude
Monet and Pierre Auguste Renoir are pioneers of defining the Impressionist movement. These
artists use a variety of techniques, perspectives, subject matter, as well as influences to create the
art we see hanging in museums today. Realism is easily identified when we analyze the works of
Gustave Courbet and Jean François Millet. 19th century French painter Courbet is even known for
creating the term Realism. Courbet aspired to find liberty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both of these art styles use similar subject matter such as landscapes and everyday
life(Timmons). The scenes are simply presented in a different way. All of the above artists use
color and light to depict shapes and give the viewer perspective yet color and light in both styles
is used in an extremely contradictory manner. Each of these art styles are meant to depict true
forms of objects and how the artist chose to interpret them is what defines each artform as a
whole(Timmons). Realism is what we see, Impressionism is how we see is how Joshua Timmons
describes these movements in order to provide a better understanding of how the artist has decided

Why Marijuana Should Be Legal
Valid Argument? You Must Be High
It seems as though everyone has their own opinion when it comes to the legalization of
marijuana. The question spans all age groups, races, and religions. You will hear different
answers from individuals under each group. Some view the use of the substance as a sin and
believe that the use should be a crime and others view it as a freedom that each citizen should be
granted. Marty Nemko, a Ph.D. holding, education evaluation specialist, says otherwise. In his
article published by TIME magazine, Nemko goes into details as to why he believes legalizing
marijuana will have far more consequences than it does reward. His points seem as though they
would be valid, however his argument is stretched and very weak. Nemko uses irrational logic,
slanted, biased data, and opinion based assumptions to attempt to persuade readers to join his
cause. At first glance, Nemko s article seems as though it is full of logical reasons as to why
marijuana should stay illegalized in the United States. The problem lies in his arguments. One of
Nemko s main points of emphasis is what the drug would do to children. If his argument was
against the legalization of marijuana for all ages, this would have sound reasoning. However,
Nemko is not arguing this proposal. The argument in discussion is to legalize marijuana for adults,
and Nemko argues for a large portion of his paper about a group of people who will not be
affected by the law. Nemko makes the assumption that

garden center operated by Tobias and remained there for one night. An action may lie in false
imprisonment against Tobias. False imprisonment False imprisonment is committed when the act
of defendant directly and intentionally or negligently resulted in the total restraint of liberty of the

The claim would be rejected as the apprehension of physical harm can be established in this case.
George could only claim that his act was due to his mistaken belief that Tobias intended to lock
Lindsay. To conclude, Tobias may succeed in the claim against George in assault and nominal
damages maybe awarded. Michael v Franklin Introduction Michael, brother of Lindsay went to the
nursery to demand Franklin to remove the video of his sister that he posted online. Michael was
plotting a plant and crouched down. Franklin had his back to Michael and was oblivious of his
presence. In order to get his attention, Michael poked him hard from the back leading to Franklin
swinging the gardening spade while turning around and broke the nose of Michael. Franklin maybe

The Benefits Of Public Libraries
As technology advances and progresses more, some people began to question the existence of
public libraries and what value they ll hold in the future. More devices are being produced that
can replace books, such as Kindles, Nooks, and other apps that can be downloaded on any
portable electronic device. These devices, however, can t replace all that libraries can offer.
Public libraries will still be in use and serve us in the future. These facilities still offer people
internet access, services for children and families, and access to reading materials. First, public
libraries offer people access to the internet and to computers. Many people believe the age of the
Internet is what would shut down public libraries. However, not everyone has internet in their
homes and rely on places, like their local public library, to provide internet and computer access. In
an interview, Jorge said, Our study of library computer users found that for 22 percent of library
computer users (age 14 and older), that the library was their only access to computers and the
Internet (Source C). People still need public libraries to work on school work, online things for
their jobs, or even just to relax and play an online game. The original purpose of libraries was not
to offer internet, but libraries still serve a purpose and are in use. Secondly, public libraries offer
services and activities for kids and families. Aside from books and computers, libraries often have

Global Climate Change And Creating A Sustainable Energy...
Energy efficiency is a key step in reducing our impact on global climate change and creating a
sustainable energy future. Electricity production is the number one source of greenhouse gases and
the leading cause of industrial air pollution in the United States. Most of our electricity comes from
coal, nuclear, and other non renewable power plants. Producing energy from these types of sources
takes a severe toll on the environment by polluting the air, land, and water supply. In order to stop
polluting the atmosphere and the environment around us, we must take action and implement the
use of renewable resources into our electricity grid and overall economy. Renewable energycan be

Power plants that use coal leak toxic metals into local groundwater and produce a lot of additional
waste. Gasoline that is burned in combustion engines emits large amounts of carbon dioxide into
the atmosphere thus contributing to climate change. Natural Gas is mostly made up of methane,
which is a lot more effective at trapping heat than carbon dioxide, making it more problematic as a
greenhouse gas (What Are Non, 2013). There are also the impacts of nonrenewable resources in
terms of health risks for individuals living across the globe. Uranium, which is used in nuclear
power plants, can cause numerous health issues. Including, major birth defects and abnormal
heart, liver and kidney functions with overexposure (What Are Non, 2013). Also, coal miners
that inhale dust can contract black lung disease, which kills around 4,000 miners per year in the
United States. Finally, there is the issue of supply and demand as they are nonrenewable
resources; once they are gone there is no way to create new ones. Thus, they are more and more
expensive as they are used. Due to this and the price increase, the technologies that we use to
make our lives easier will become useless if the fuel that is used to power them ceases to exist. If
alternatives are not pursued and perfected, a shortage would result in chaos.
However, in order to achieve the switch from nonrenewable resources to renewable resources, it is
important to understand what it is. Renewable energy is energy

Emily Dickinson Nobodies
Argumentative Writing Assignment How dreary to be somebody... How public..., (Dickinson,
stanza 1 2). In the eyes of Emily Dickinson, the writer of the cited quote, the majority of the
population embodies the distinct characteristics of what she refers to as a somebody in her poem,
I m nobody! Who are you? . Somebodies are individuals who when grouped together have few
varying characteristics between them. Though somebodies seemingly occupy most of the
population, they are countered by what Dickinson calls nobodies. Nobodies are characterized for

In her poem, Dickinson say, I m Nobody! Who are you? Are you Nobody too, (Dickinson, 1 2).
While reading the text, the audience can hear that the self proclaimed nobody in the poem seems
to be astonished that they have met another nobody. Like the Nobody in the poem, today s
Nobodies, characterized by being introverts who are comfortable being themselves, seldom meet
other people whose beliefs and ideals venture far from that of pop culture. Later in the text,
Dickinson says, Don t tell! They d advertise you know, (Dickinson, 4). From this quote, the reader
can infer that when Dickinson says they would advertise the they that she is speaking of are the
somebodies. Because somebodies are so plentiful and common they make up the traditional group
and anyone whose thinking contrast to that of the somebodies thinking is put under a spotlight.
Because nobodies will always be those who venture from the norms of society, they will always be
those that are less common because they have chosen to take the road less

Gender, Sexual Orientation And Education

disperse around a number of issues that revolve around gender, religion, sexual orientation and
education. These divides have created an un opened minded society that judge people and groups
based on the prejudices and stereotypes that treat them differently. In the aspect of identity
discrimination, American society plays a big role in keeping those that are different isolated from

My Time As Volunteer At Somerset Dade Academy
During my time as volunteer at Somerset Dade Academy, I was able to work closely with the
elementary and middle school teacher. During each visit, I was able to follow Ms. Lee s daily
routine. In the morning, we had 30 minutes to plan and get her cart ready with supplies she needed
for the day. Also, we would both create various model artworks to inspire her students to create
something more original and imaginative. She wheeled her cart through certain elementary classes
depending on her schedule. Depending on the grade level she was assign to that day, we were able
to teach her students the fundamental concepts of arts and major art movements, all in 30 minutes.
Every three weeks, she would focus on a concept, artist, or art movement. Additionally, she would
assign vocabulary words, which her students would copy and also had access to them online on
Quizlet. At the end, she would administer a summative test on everything they learned for the past
three weeks. On the other hand, Ms. Lee s middle schoolclasses were different, more one on one,
and it was a one hour period. Her students were able to recreate impressionist and expressionist
artworks, such as Monet s Water Lilies, Van Gogh Starry Night and The Bedroom on wall sized
canvases. Despite the diversity of art concepts taught, it can become quite difficult for one teacher
to teach 23 elementary classes and 11 middle schoolclasses. As part of the Miami Dade College

Letter For Adhd Essay
Dear Abby,
My husband and I just found that that our eight year old child was diagnosed with ADHD. He
was always a difficult child growing up, but lately he has become worse. We are guilty to admit
that we have been spectators about ADHD, and don t know how to rightly act in this situation.
Should we allow our doctor to prescribe the medication to treat my son s condition or should we
just wait until he grows out of this stage? We are scared however, that if we don t treat his
disorder right now, it will get worse when he gets older. Please explain what is medically right to do
for our child.

Dear Abby,
Recently my child has started throwing temper tantrums when we are out with our family.
Either we are at the park, my parents house, or anywhere with a large group of people, he has been
screaming and kicking on the floor if he doesn t get something his way. One of my questions is, is
this because there is a big group of people and he feels like he has more leverage to get a yes out of
us? Also, is this happening because he is too shy around a large group of people and will outgrow
this? Is this a serious problem that I need professional help with or should we just try to manage
this ourselves somehow?
Sincerely,
Frustrated parent.
Dear frustrated parent,
On a bright note, temper tantrums are one of the most common behavior problems in children, so
you are not alone. However, there are normal and abnormal temper tantrums. There are also several
reasons why children have temper tantrums. Children who are tired, hungry, ill or frustrated don t

Individuality, Equality, And Sameness
Individuality, Equality, and Sameness
What is the differentiation between equality and sameness? How does one s identity effect these
two notions? In Bradbury s and Vonnegut s fictitious stories, The Pedestrian , Fahrenheit 451 , and
Harrison Bergeron , these concepts and their relationship is depicted to the reader in the form of
dystopias. These dystopias may not exist, but these science fictional societies certainly could be
made to exist. These stories contain elements that anyone can relate to, and like all science fiction,
accommodate real life factors such as technology, life, and government. Bradbury s and Vonnegut s
stories convey the message that humanity needs to acknowledge its own need for individuality and

unfair voice for a woman to use. Her voice was warm, luminous, timeless melody (Kurt Bergeron

best suit a job, characters often take jobs that do not suit them. Not only could this cause a
person to be miserable with their work, but it limits the occupations one can have, and makes it
extremely hard to exceed in a trade or career. As a result, there s a society where people are
punished for being different, where there is an absurd idea that it is possible for citizens to have
equality and sameness at the same time, and an environment, where no one is joyful. That is to say,
that sameness is not equality, much less happiness.
In Ray Bradbury s The Pedestrian and Fahrenheit 451 readers enter a society where everyone has
similar items, where everyone learns the same facts, and where there is a minuscule amount of
crime. However, no one interacts with each other. In The Pedestrian the majority of people prefer to

Analysis Of Sylvia Plath s Tulips
Tulips by Sylvia Plath explores the idea of disconnecting oneself from life, only to be reminded
of their responsibilities in life. The speaker in the poem is in a hospital room, separate from their
family. No one is present in the white hospital room, except for the speaker and the tulips. The
room is peaceful and allows the speaker to enjoy a lack of commitment towards anything.
Unfortunately for the speaker, the tulips in the room remind the speaker of their life and bind the
speaker to their responsibilities. In Sylvia Plath s Tulips, color symbolism and personification
contrast the peace of disconnection and commitments in life.

The color symbolism of the white hospital room and the red tulips juxtapose the peacefulness of the
hospital room with the speaker s internal conflict regarding their responsibilities.
Personification of silence and tulips further emphasizes the speaker s disconnection with
worldly responsibilities with the chaos of life. The silence and peace of the hospital room is
freeing to the speaker, as they are removed from their responsibilities. The hospital room is void
of any distractions and The peacefulness is so big it dazes you,/ And it asks nothing (32,33). By
the room asking nothing, its quietness does not demand anything and this is freeing for the

Movie Review of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington : Review Frank Capra, a renowned Hollywood director, directed
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, which was released in 1939. The film stars Jean Arthur and
James (Jimmy) Stewart in the principal roles. James Stewart plays the title role of Mr. Smith as
Jefferson Smith, a man chosen to take assume the role of senator after US Senator Sam Foley
dies. Governor Hubert Happy Hopper selects Jefferson Smith to fill this role, pressure from his
corrupt pseudo mob boss to choose one of his goons notwithstanding. The narrative is the story

Washington D.C. Though a humble and genuine man, Jefferson Smith is chastised and ridiculed
by his enemies and sometimes the public for his lack of urban sophistication. The film

Enfield Rifle Research Paper
How to Shoot a Gun
The 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket, a 1,400 millimeter gun that can fire up to 1,250 yards with a
muzzle velocity of 430 meters per second, is essential to be known how to be used by all real
men. Fortunately, it s easy to handle if you follow a few precise steps. First, you must start off by
gathering all the materials needed to load this carbine rifle. These materials include a rifle musket,
percussion cap, ramrod, and a paper cartridge, and a .58 caliber miniature ball. Then, you tear
open the paper cartridge, either by hand or with your teeth, and disperse the powder down the
barrel. After this, you must take out the miniature ball from inside the paper cartridge and place
it securely into the barrel of the rifle. Once this action is complete, you take out your ramrod and
force the ball far down the barrel; this will put the ball alongside the power. Next, grab your
percussion cap and sturdily place it on the nipple of your Enfield. This will allow for sparks to
enkindle the powder once the cap is battered. Now you re almost ready to fire! All you have left to
do is cock your 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket back as far as possible and pull the trigger. ... Show more

Overall, I liked the film and the why it addressed the characters
problems which is a real issues people face. Even though, when I left i felt super mentally
exhausted and depressed not because it s such a high characters drama but to see these issues
existing. But this is what the film made to be, so I think it succeeded in what it meant to

After listening to Garrett Bradley s Q A, I ve learned that whatever technique you think it
will help your story the best and you have thought of it you should do it despising the narrative.
Also to do whatever it takes to make your story real and to not be shy to express yourself in the

your story and why you think this story should be out here to the world to see. I really appreciate

every aspect. The only thing that I wish that was better is the attendance. The Theater

Essay On The Causes Of The Revolutionary War
SUMMARY: The Revolutionary War, also known as the War of American Independence went
on for eight long years, from 1775 to 1783. The war is identified by Battles that were fought,

were put into place by the British going as far back as 1689. Britain was known as the mother
land in control of the America s 13 colonies. The 1689 English Bill of Rights was passed which
was a constitutional form of government in which the rights and liberties of the individual were
protected under English law. The Americans argued that they were not given the same rights. The
British passed one Act after another, all of which were in no way beneficial to the American
Colonies. The Americans began to rebel against these acts, The Boston Massacre, which occurred
on March 5th 1770 where British soldiers killed 5 civilians. George Washington, set on protesting

Essay about Microbial Desalination Cells
Microbial Desalination Cells
Desalination is the removal of salt from seawater to provide freshwater especially in developing
countries. Currently, MFCs (Microbial Fuel Cells) have generated electricity from biomass using
bacteria. These microbes cause an electric current where electrons flow from the anode to the
cathode where the reduction of oxygen occurs. A revolutionary new method called MDCs
(Microbial Desalination Cells) could potentially desalinate water and produce energy depending
on the design or set up of the cell. This process is similar to water electrodialysis but uses bacteria
as the source of energy rather than an external source. If the set up of the MDC is altered to

Strategic Management to Increase the Growth of the Company:
Strategic management is a broader term that includes earlier steps of determining the mission and
objectives of an organization within the context of its external as well as internal environment. The
basic steps of the strategic management can be examined through the use of strategic management
model.
The strategic management model identifies concepts of strategy and the elements necessary for
development of a strategy enabling the organization to satisfy its mission. Historically, a number of
frameworks and models have been advanced which propose different normative approaches to
strategy determination. The core strategic management elements are:

The effect of food source (mung bean Vigna radiata vs. black eyed pea Vigna unguiculata) on
relative inhibition of acetylcholinerase due to malaoxon in bean beetle Callosobruchus maculatus
Background and Hypotheses:
Recent studies, most notably Gbaye et al. (2011, 2012), have investigated the sensitivity of bean
beetles in the genus Callosobruchus to organophosphate insecticides (OPs). Economically this is
important work given that these beetles are pests that threaten agricultural yields of legumes. OPs
work by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinerase (AChE) in the beetles. Without this enzyme, the
neurotransmitter acetylcholine can t be broken down and its overflow leads to the eventual death of
the beetle. Results obtained by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Once we collected the data on the 15 individual beetles, we found the sample mean relative
inhibitions per experimental group and their respective sample standard deviations. We then used
a two tailed t test analysis to determine if the difference in means is statistically significant. Our
experimental prediction: if we perform the colorimetric enzyme assay (described on pp. 73 76 of
the Course Supplement) on two groups of beatles one cultured on mung beans and one cultured on
black eye peas we will observe a statistical difference in the respective relative inhibitions.
Results and Data Analysis:
Beetles bred on mung beans exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.32% with a sample standard
deviation of 26.41%. Beetles bred on black eyed peas exhibited a mean relative inhibition of
35.42% with a sample standard deviation of 17.97%. This data is reflected in the bar graph in
Figure 1 below. The large bars show the respective means and the error bars show a range of one
standard deviation about the mean.
A two tailed t test yields a t value of 0.99. For 13 degrees of freedom, t critical is 2.16 for a 95%
confidence level and 1.35 for an 80% confidence level. This is reflected in Table 1 below.

While not defined by ASC 740, practice has generally been to consider the most recent three

would be needed to overcome this significant negative evidence and conclude that a valuation

simply one data point it is not a bright line test that is in and of itself determinative of the need
for a valuation allowance. To illustrate, assume that a company is in a three year cumulative

PAGE 271 Exercise 1 7
1. In To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time and To His Coy Mistress, what do Herrick and

young, beautiful, unmarried women to make the most of their time and marry young. He does
not address it to any particular woman, other than young virgins. He uses to metaphor to compare
the women s youthful beauty to flowers that will begin to die as they age. Meanwhile, Marvell s

* The use of the word all in line 41 is, almost by definition, an example of hyperbole. * The use of

5. The image of the sun appears in both To the Virgins (line 5) and To His Coy Mistress (line 45).
How does each poet use the reference to the sun? How would you paraphrase the last two lines of
Marvell s To His Coy Mistress ?
In both poems there is a sense of urgency. Certainly, the theme of carpe diem is in Herrick s verse
as he utilizes the sun and its measure of a day as a metaphor for the swift passage of time. Even
though Herrick and Marvell take different approaches toward the sun as a timekeeper, both their
poems stress the need to enjoy love while there is yet time.
6. In two or three sentences, explain how the difficult existence described in Give Us This Day
Our Daily Bread (see the Connection on page 269) corresponds to your previous notion of life in
the late 1500s. In light of this information, what is surprising or, perhaps, not surprising about the
visions of life presented in the pastoral poems you have just read?
Give us this day our daily bread is from the Bible. It is from Matthew 6:11. The prayer is asking
God to provide people with the simple things they need for day to day living. Life in the late 1500
s was very hard and people wanted for food.

##bols And Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
Symbols and symbolism are important to have in a story because it helps readers to focus on the
deeper meanings and themes under the main story. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a
novel that contains myriad symbolism. The novel is about a group of young boys who get
stranded on an island with no adults, and the boys need to collaborate to survive; however, as
time goes on, the collaborative efforts crumble and the boys begin to reveal their inner savage
nature. To show the progression of savagery in the boys, Golding uses several symbols the conch,
the mask, and the beast but none of these symbols are as important as the fire. The fire is the most
important symbolbecause it emphasizes the importance of hope and rescue on the island, and
how it can prevail even through the bos savage nature. On an island with no hope and seemingly
no escape, the fire provides and symbolizes hope and rescue to escape the island. When Ralph is
rallying the boys in the assembly, his main priority to the boys is that [they] must make smoke
on the top of the mountain, [they] must make a fire (38). At this point in the story, Ralph has
already been established as the leader, so his priority is very powerful to the boys on the island,
to which they run to the mountain and attempt to create the signal fire. This quote is also
important because it establishes the symbol of fire to be a beacon of hope and rescue for the
boys, which is essential if they want to escape the island alive.

Congenital hearing loss is described as hearing loss that...
Congenital hearing loss is described as hearing loss that exists at birth. Factors responsible for this
condition include those present during pregnancy (such as hereditary factors), as well as factors
present after pregnancy. An inherited congenital hearing loss could be conductive, sensorineural, or
even a combination of both. The amount or progression of this type of hearing loss varies
according to each individual s case. According to Richard Smith, congenital hearing loss is
syndromic (associated with malformations of the external earor other organs or with medical
problems involving other organ systems) or nonsyndromic (no associated visible abnormalities of
the external ear or any related medical problems)... Over 400 genetic... Show more content on

On the other hand, there is another kind of a genetic factor called autosomal recessive hearing
loss. This means that both parents will typically have normal hearing, but they carry a recessive
gene for hearing loss. The probability of the child being born with hearing loss is 25%. The sex
chromosome X linked hearing loss is when the mother carries the recessive trait for hearing loss
on her sex chromosome and passes it down to the male. This recessive gene would not affect a
female child because paired with her father s gene the trait would remain recessive.
Genetic hearing loss can be seen in several syndromes, in which hearing loss can be a result of the
syndrome; examples of this are Down syndrome (an extra copy of chromosome 21), Usher
syndrome (autosomal recessive), and Treacher Collins syndrome (autosomal dominant). These are
not the only examples, but just a few of them.
Besides genetic factors, there are other causes of congenital hearing loss. These factors occur
naturally as opposed to being genetically passed down from the child s parent(s). Examples of these
natural causes include prenatal illness, infections, or toxins that might have been consumed by the
mother during her pregnancy. Other possibilities might include the conditions that happened at the
time of delivery or shortly after. All of these causes will most likely result

Trifles Analysis
Woman
Susan Glaspell shows her readers that women will no longer be in the background. By writing
Trifles she gave women an outlook they have never received before. Trifles is a coming up story
about women, in other words its about women and their rise to power. Glaspell embodies the
women spirit by showing the power, conning, and intectellt of the women in her play.
When people think of power the first thing that comes to mind is a man Women are shown to be
weak, mindless and serving, but in Trifles Glaspell depicts women to have more fire and power. In
1900 s women were housewives they did not own anything and did what they were told kind of like
slaves. Trifles shows Mrs. Peters, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Wright as something much more than that.
Right in the beginning (1860) it shows that Mrs. Wright might have committed murder.Trifles
shows that this woman could have possess the power to kill a man. That was unheard of in the
1900 s because women did not speak out or defend themselves against a man. Mrs. Hale shows
just a snippet of her power when The County Attorney on page (1861) says Dirty towels! Not
much of a housekeeper, would you say, ladies? Mrs.Hale claps back with There s a great deal of
work to be done on a farm. Mrs. Hales defends Mrs. Wright because she knows just how difficult
it is to maintain a household and didn t feel that was necessary because they had Mrs. Wright
leave in a hurry. Mrs. Hale yet again shows she is not afraid of what is to come on page (1864)
she undoes the knot on the quilt and the sewing comes undone. Mrs.Hale at this time knows that
this quilt is evidence but does not care and starts to sew. Mrs. Peters finally shows she is capable
of having powerful demeanor on page (1866) she says ...If they hadn t held me back I would
have... hurt him. A boy killed her cat and that made her angry enough to think about hurting and
possibly killing him. Power has many different forms and women are starting to take on that form.
Women are capable of many things and being conning is just one of them. People lie all the time
to get away with things they do not want to get in trouble for. For a woman to lie was unheard of
especially to an attorney and sheriff. Mrs.

Essay On Self Confidence
Self confidence is the foundation of success, achievement, and happiness. Unfortunately, the
foundation of self confidence can become shaky and unstable if someone that you look up to as
a role model hurts your self esteem and courage. One of the biggest role models in my life used to
be my first club soccer coach. He seemed brilliant, passionate, and willing to work with my team.
This man soon became the complete opposite of what I hoped he would be. I soon realized that he
was a two faced liar and one of the most awful people I have ever met. Little did my ten year old
selfknow he would be the downfall of my self confidenceand he would slowly destroy any passion I
had for the sport I loved all with only a few words.
At the age of ten I was the most energetic, go lucky, confident girl. I excelled at my beloved sport,
soccer. I had been playing since I was just a mere five years old, far longer than the other girls.
Playing so long had helped me be at a higher level of skill than most of the other players on my
team.
During my first season of competitive travel soccer I thought I had been blessed with an
amazing coach. His name was Kenrick Ramirez. Kenrick was from Trinidad and Tobago and had
a thick caribbean accent that at first I could not understand. I was intrigued by Kenrick s
personality because he was so much different than the other typical soccer coaches I had had my
whole life. He seemed to know everything like he was the soccer god. Unfortunately, none of

Advantages And Cons Of Outsourcing
2.1 Outsourcing
Kamensky and Morales (2006, 45) define outsourcing as a management strategy that contracts out
organizational activities to vendors or suppliers who specialize in these activities in order to
perform them more efficiently and effectively. Outsourcing is defined as the practice of turning
over entire business functions to an outside vendor that can supposedly can perform the specialized
tasks better and less expensively than the organization choosing to outsource. Outsourcing differs
from privatization in that outsourcing, the work load is shifted from in house government providers
to the private sector, but no transfer or sale of assets has occurred. Outsourcing needs the
government to remain fully responsible for the provision of all services and management decisions.
Other transactions include direct vendor delivery, hiring long term trained staff, etc.
2.2 Public private partnerships

reengineering, restructuring, right sizing, renewal and ensures the government to deliver its
specialized services in an effective, efficient and economical manner. The government now focuses
on the things it does best whiles delegating other functions to other sectors to distribute other

Ethics In Night
What is theological ethics? That is the question we have been trying to answer throughout this
semester. We have read Night by Elie Wiesel who was a teenager when he was taken to
concentration camps. How can his story of survival, help us keep our faith and live a moral life?
We also read The Moral Disciple by Kent A. Van Til. He shows us that being a moral disciple is a
way to become a good person. How can living morally, help us live ethically? The next book we
read is Fear of the Other by William H. Willimon. Willimon shows us examples of immoral acts in
today s society. Can we change to act differently even though some social norms are immoral? The
final book we read is titled The Good Life by Richard Gula. He gives us what a good life should be
and how we can live it. As well as these readings, we read Genesis, Exodus and Matthew. These
three books in the Bible give us the basis of Christian Ethics. All of these readings come together to
one conclusion. In this paper, I will talk about how all of these readings connect to prove that we
are all creatures. Night is a story about Elie Wiesel who was a teenager when he and his family
were taken from their home to concentration camps. This novel gives us a chilling depiction of the
terrifying scenes he saw including the death of his family and almost the death of his faith in God.
In the beginning he believed in God unconditionally and could not imagen life without him. He
believed that God is

Confidentiality And Conflict Of Interest
Introduction
Chapter 6 in the Introduction to Engineering Ethics book by Martin and Schinzinger covers the
ethical behavior of engineers in regard to working for a company. This includes confidentiality and
conflict of interest, teamwork, employee right and employer right. Each of these sections will be
covered separately, and their impact on Senior Design Project 3 will be considered.
Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest The first section of chapter 6 covers non disclosure of
company information and its relation to employees. Companies possess proprietary information
and trade secrets, and engineers have access to this information. To prevent the transfer of this
information to other firms, companies have employee agreements to not ... Show more content on

This type of file from a company cannot legally be decompiled, so knowing what the actual code
executed by function calls is not possible. We were unable to effectively troubleshoot problems
when they arose since we could not see the code. However, the compiling of this code did protect
the company secrets effectively.
Teamwork and Rights Section two of chapter 6 covers teamwork in a corporate setting, as well as
employer and employee rights. To promote the morally responsible actions of employees,
corporations need to promote an ethical work climate. Four main tenants of an ethical workplace
are presented. The first is that both employees and managers acknowledge ethical values, and that
responsibilities to stockholders, customers, and other stakeholders are kept. The second tenant is
the use of ethical language in corporate dialog, such as introducing a code of ethics. Third,
managers need to set a moral tone in actions and words, and through examples and personal
behavior. Finally, companies should have a conflict resolution procedure. Loyalty is also covered
in section 2 of the chapter. Loyalty to the employer is discussed, which includes both agency loyalty
and attitude loyalty. Above all, engineers loyalty remains with the public according to the National
Society of Professional Engineers. In their code of ethics, they state engineers should hold
paramount the safety, health and welfare of

Semiotic Analysis
A Semiotic Analysis: There s A Soldier In All Of Us
In today s society, people are significantly influenced by the media. Mediated messages are often
deliberate and appeal to specific audiences based on race, gender, ethnicity, social status, education
level, political views, and much more. By applying semiotics to everyday life, we can decipher
meaning within texts, film, and photography in a more constructive way. Here, it becomes evident
that semiotics is a fundamental concept that enables better communication. Through a semiotic
analysis of the 2010 Call of Duty (COD): Black Ops There s A SoldierIn All Of Us commercial, it

These celebrities are recognizable in American popular culture and therefore appeal to the American
public. Another cultural code embedded in this trailer is created by the use of background music.
Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter (1969), is played throughout the commercial, which targets members
of older generations in America. This advertisement also indicates that both men and women attain
power and authority in this video game, just as they do in actual U.S. military matters. As a
society, we carry these cultural codes and understandings of life over to our exposure to media
productions, which generates meaning within them. Through the COD: Black Ops trailer,
advertisers were able to transmit messages to a range people with different social classes,
education levels, political ideologies, and worldviews. Because the COD: Black Ops
commercial is so rich in signifiers, it is able to appeal to many different types audiences. We can
say that fun and excitement are the signified in this commercial and that a number of signifiers
demonstrate this, including signs of adrenaline and smiles/laughter on the faces of different
characters involved, as well as a signifier that even famous people are having fun playing this
video game. Through the use of associations between signifiers and signified, consumers are
encouraged to buy this video game since everyone is doing it . As Berger points out, texts, such as

The Widow s Sorrow
Sorrow is life as life is sorrow. Sorrow discriminate no one and affects everyone. From the loss of
innocent to the loss of life, sorrow is man s best friend as it is an enemy, but with sorrow, there
comes hope for rejuvenation with the change of seasons. William Carlos Williams closely
analyzes sorrow a dead partner creates in his poem The Widow s Lament in the Springtime with
his naturalistic imagery to depict the movement of sorrow through time. First with the dead of a
loved one, Williams employs fiery imagery to portray the personal sorrow of the widow. While she
may experience sorrow before, the new sorrow became [her] own yard (Williams 1) that is always

Methods Of Using Stratified Sampling Essay
Procedure This present study utilized two self report surveys administered to inmates within state
run prisons in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia. The
participating facilities and the inmates were selected utilizing stratified sampling. From the total
number of facilities (126), fifty facilities were randomly selected. The facilities were selected by
grouping them into different security levels (maximum, medium, and minimum) and were all
given a number and selected using a random number generator. Lists of all the inmates were
collected from the facilities and 10,000 male inmates were randomly selected to be surveyed.
They were selected by grouping the inmates by classification level (general population,
protective custody, and segregation). Each of these inmates were given a number and a random
number generator was utilized to randomly select participants. Stratified sampling was utilized
because it ensures that the researcher collect a more representative sample by using different
security level facilities and different custody levels of inmates as a sampling frame. The
participants were surveyed twice over a period of one year; the surveys were mailed out to the
facilities and were self administered to the participants. Participants had three weeks to complete
and mail the survey back to the research facility using the return envelope provided. The survey
response rate was sixty five percent of those surveyed and included

Introduction
Why dialogue is needed in organization?
Dialogue is different from any other tool of the techniques it is method for problem formulation and
problem solving technologies. Dialogue is essential for understanding culture and sub culture, for
that instance organizational learning will probably depend upon such cultural understanding.
Because of the high revolution seen in the technology and technological advancement its essential

Piano Reflection
Everything was progressing smoothly as my fingers traversed the terrain of my upright piano
until, inevitably, an all too familiar, jarring chord rang from its core. Although I wanted nothing
more than to disregard my repeated blunder and never look back, I knew that this strategy would
fall short when I performed the piece for my teacher the following day. So with perseverance,
focus, and fear of a disapproving glare, I managed to play it through faultlessly. Now all that
remained was the small task of playing the piece an additional four times in a row with that same
impeccable accuracy. Upon realizing the amount of work ahead of me, I mentally kicked myself for
not starting sooner and lengthened my timer from the remaining twelve minutes to another thirty. It
was time to woodshed this until I got it right every time.
Playing the piano has been a rewarding experience for me throughout my life for not only
granting me the skill of playing, but also for teaching me lessons that can be applied to my
academic and personal life. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned from piano is the
ability of breaking down a seemingly unsolvable problem into its basic components or, in the terms
of my piano teacher, woodshedding. For non musicians, woodshedding might be an unfamiliar term
and may even sound fictitious, but rest assured, it is a legitimate word denoting the practice of an
instrument. However, my piano teacher had a more distinct interpretation. The first time I

  • 2. The Glass Steagall Act Despite its humble beginnings in 1844 as a simple general store turned financial firm, the Lehman Brothers greed drove their firm into the ground. It seemed as if Lehman Brothers was indestructible. Surviving through the railroad bankruptcies in the 1800 s, the Great Depression of the 1930 s, two world wars, a capital shortage in 1994, and everything in between, it seemed the firm was built to last. However its inevitable end started in the early 2000 s with the housing boom after the repeal of the Glass Steagall act. Over the span of two years, 2003 and 2004, Lehman Brothers acquired a total of five mortgage lenders, including the subprime lender BNC and Alt A loan specialist Aurora Loan. As the housing boom was under way and the firm acquired these large players its Lehman real estate business s capital market revenues cascaded 56% over the next two years 2004 to 2006. It was a faster rate of growth than other businesses in investment banking or asset management. These shares will only be included in your future tax returns if you continue your employment with the company. Congratulations on your new investment in the lemonade truck, though I m sorry it s not going as well as you would have liked. Lucky for you the IRS permits deductions for the expenses of starting a new business. There are two requirements for a deduction on account of start up costs. First, the payment must be paid in connection with creating a business. Within the past year you have incurred several expenses in connection with starting the business: (1) $1,000 of your own money as a down payment on the truck; (2) a $49,000 loan for the truck; (3) $750 for the lemonade maker; and (4) $1,500 on lemons, sugar, and boba tea. Second, the expenses must be one that is allowed as a deduction. To be deducted the expense must be ordinary, necessary, and incurred during the taxable year in order to carry on the business. In determining whether expenses are necessary, we look to the purpose in making the payments and whether they have a connection to the business. In your case this would be to have a place to run your business, and to have the equipment and inventory needed to make your product. A necessary expense is one that is appropriate and helpful for the business. It is both appropriate and extremely helpful to have a place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Princess Dianais an influential person because of her ability to overcome hardship, her unconventional royal duties, her widely recognized charitable work, and the impact of her death. Throughout the years of Princess Diana s life she showed her capability to overcome hardship, and work through her pain to become someone the world would never forget. • 6. Theories Of Criminology And Criminal Behavior In the early to mid 1800s there were a few perspectives introduced regarding how to determine which individuals were more likely to commit criminal behavior. These perspectives were made to identify and separate the more superior individuals from the inferior individuals. One of the first examples of this belief was brought forth by craniometry. Craniometry is the belief that the size of a person s brain and the skull can tell a person s superiority or inferiority in relation to certain racial groups. During that time it was believed that the size of a person s skull directly reflected the size of a person s brain. The larger the brain the more intelligent or superior the person was. Many of the studies done by Craniometrists showed that people of White European descent were superior to people of other ethnic or racial groups. These studies were deemed biased and unethical because the researcher s knew which brains and skulls belonged to which racial groups before the measurements were taken. During the mid to late 1800 s Cesare Lombroso based his scientific theories of criminology on Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection. Charles Darwin suggested that humans evolved from primitive beings and that humans later evolved based on their ability to adapt to their environment. The humans that are unable to adapt to their environment die off or become inferior. Lombroso believed that certain individuals or groups of people were born to commit crime. In terms of ... • 7. The Aircraft Wings Are The Primary Lift Producing Device... The aircraft wings are the primary lift producing device for an aircraft. The aircraft wings are designed aerodynamically to generate a lift force which is required in order for an aircraft to fly. The basic goal of the wing is to generate lift and minimize drag as far as possible. When the airflow passes the wing at any suitable angle of attack, a pressure differential is created. A region of lower pressure is created over the top surface of the wing while, a region of higher pressure is created under the surface of the wing. This difference in pressure creates a differential force which acts upward, which is called lift. For most aircrafts, where, the wings are the primary structures to generate lift, the aircraft s wings must generate sufficient lift to carry the entire weight of an aircraft. In modern commercial, fighter and jet aircraft, the aircraft wings are not only designed to provide the necessary lift during the different phases of flight, but also have a variety of other roles and functions. Wing Support: Cantilevered All the structure is buried under the aerodynamic skin, giving a clean appearance with low drag. A cantilever is a rigid structural element, such as a beam or a plate, anchored at only one end to a (usually vertical) support from which it is protruding. When subjected to a structural load, the cantilever carries the load to the support where it is forced against by a moment and shear stress.Cantilever construction allows for overhanging ... • 8. Bye Birdie Vs Mcafee There are many differences between Bye Bye Birdie s stage musical and its movie musical, and these changes were not made without reason. One of the most noticeable changes is the seeming role importance reversal of the show s two leading ladies: Kim MacAfee and Rosie Alvarez. While in the stage musical, Rosie is a domineering, fierce woman with the ability to lead men whichever way she wanted, and one who refused to back down to the objections of Albert s nagging mother, in the movie she is dull, even during her musical numbers, and seems to go along with whatever Albert and his mother instruct her to do. She seems more like a typical American housewife in the making, even becoming fully Americanized; her name changing from Rosie Alvarez in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul Lynde, who played Harry MacAfee in the show, even quoted that they should have just retitled the film Hello, Ann Margret (McQueen 1). She is the most electrifying actress in the film from start to finish, beginning with an iconic sequence in which Margret is moved back and forth on an electric treadmill with a blue background behind her, singing a title song that was specifically written for the movie and does not exist in the stage production (King 1). Although Margret s performance of Kim is simply exquisite, she looks a bit old to play the role (she is 22 playing a 15 year old). However, this proved to be no problem for the film s screenwriter, Irving Brecher. All of the changes in the film were made by Brecher, an MGM screenwriter who specialized in movie musicals, most notably Meet Me in St. Louis, so it is no surprise that these changes were made to fit the cookie cutter American musical style. Meet Me in St. Louis also featured Judy Garland as the young, virtuous, leading female role whom audiences loved, so who better to follow her up than Ann Margret ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Graduate School Admission Essay Sample No one in my immediate family has ever even had the good fortune to apply to a graduate school, but I have always contemplated going to graduate school even before I began my undergraduate career. That is the kind of person I am always strategizing my next plan of action. More importantly, I have always understood the importance of having a master s degree. While I have always had my heart set on attending graduate school, I was previously unsure about the specifics of how I would earn my master s degree. Now I am confident that getting a Master of Health Administration from Johns Hopkins Universitywould help me accomplish much more than simply my career goals. There are 3 fundamental reasons why I am applying to this program. First, this program would help me achieve my career goal. However, even during a normal winter, you can expect average temperatures that are below freezing for three months out of the year and snowfall totals ranging between 44 inches and 55 inches. Keeping your pavement clear throughout the winter typically involves frequent applications of salt or chemical deicers as well as repeated snowplowing. Between the freeze/thaw cycle, the potential damage from snowplows and the corrosive actions of deicing materials, your asphalt pavement can take a beating. If you want to minimize the damage that winter can cause, you should make sure that you have cracks repaired before the arrival of cold weather. Why Crack Filling Is Important Although ... • 11. Difference Between Impressionism And Impressionism Emily Musick Erin Brabazon English Composition 31 January 2016 Realism and Impressionism Art has progressed in many ways throughout history; two prominent styles however that define the evolution of art are Realism and Impressionism. Realism is defined as treatment of forms, colors, space, etc., in such a manner as to emphasize their correspondence to actuality or to ordinary visual experience (realism). Two artists that are well known for this style of art are Gustave Courbet and Jean FranГ§ois Millet. Impressionism is defined as a style of painting developed in the last third of the 19th century, characterized chiefly by short brushstrokes of bright colors in immediate juxtaposition to represent the effect of light on objects (impressionism). Claude Monet and Pierre Auguste Renoir are pioneers of defining the Impressionist movement. These artists use a variety of techniques, perspectives, subject matter, as well as influences to create the art we see hanging in museums today. Realism is easily identified when we analyze the works of Gustave Courbet and Jean FranГ§ois Millet. 19th century French painter Courbet is even known for creating the term Realism. Each of these art styles are meant to depict true forms of objects and how the artist chose to interpret them is what defines each artform as a whole(Timmons). • 12. Why Marijuana Should Be Legal Valid Argument? You Must Be High It seems as though everyone has their own opinion when it comes to the legalization of marijuana. The question spans all age groups, races, and religions. You will hear different answers from individuals under each group. Some view the use of the substance as a sin and believe that the use should be a crime and others view it as a freedom that each citizen should be granted. Marty Nemko, a Ph.D. holding, education evaluation specialist, says otherwise. In his article published by TIME magazine, Nemko goes into details as to why he believes legalizing marijuana will have far more consequences than it does reward. His points seem as though they would be valid, however his argument is stretched and very weak. Nemko uses irrational logic, slanted, biased data, and opinion based assumptions to attempt to persuade readers to join his cause. At first glance, Nemko s article seems as though it is full of logical reasons as to why marijuana should stay illegalized in the United States. The problem lies in his arguments. One of Nemko s main points of emphasis is what the drug would do to children. If his argument was against the legalization of marijuana for all ages, this would have sound reasoning. However, Nemko is not arguing this proposal. The argument in discussion is to legalize marijuana for adults, and Nemko argues for a large portion of his paper about a group of people who will not be affected by the law. Nemko makes the assumption that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Global Climate Change And Creating A Sustainable Energy... Energy efficiency is a key step in reducing our impact on global climate change and creating a sustainable energy future. Electricity production is the number one source of greenhouse gases and the leading cause of industrial air pollution in the United States. Most of our electricity comes from coal, nuclear, and other non renewable power plants. Producing energy from these types of sources takes a severe toll on the environment by polluting the air, land, and water supply. Power plants that use coal leak toxic metals into local groundwater and produce a lot of additional waste. Gasoline that is burned in combustion engines emits large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere thus contributing to climate change. Natural Gas is mostly made up of methane, which is a lot more effective at trapping heat than carbon dioxide, making it more problematic as a greenhouse gas (What Are Non, 2013). There are also the impacts of nonrenewable resources in terms of health risks for individuals living across the globe. Uranium, which is used in nuclear power plants, can cause numerous health issues. Including, major birth defects and abnormal heart, liver and kidney functions with overexposure (What Are Non, 2013). Also, coal miners that inhale dust can contract black lung disease, which kills around 4,000 miners per year in the United States. Finally, there is the issue of supply and demand as they are nonrenewable resources; once they are gone there is no way to create new ones. Thus, they are more and more expensive as they are used. Due to this and the price increase, the technologies that we use to make our lives easier will become useless if the fuel that is used to power them ceases to exist. If alternatives are not pursued and perfected, a shortage would result in chaos. Fortunately, it s easy to handle if you follow a few precise steps. First, you must start off by gathering all the materials needed to load this carbine rifle. These materials include a rifle musket, percussion cap, ramrod, and a paper cartridge, and a .58 caliber miniature ball. Once this action is complete, you take out your ramrod and force the ball far down the barrel; this will put the ball alongside the power. Next, grab your percussion cap and sturdily place it on the nipple of your Enfield. This will allow for sparks to enkindle the powder once the cap is battered. Now you re almost ready to fire! The effect of food source (mung bean Vigna radiata vs. black eyed pea Vigna unguiculata) on relative inhibition of acetylcholinerase due to malaoxon in bean beetle Callosobruchus maculatus Background and Hypotheses: Recent studies, most notably Gbaye et al. (2011, 2012), have investigated the sensitivity of bean beetles in the genus Callosobruchus to organophosphate insecticides (OPs). Economically this is important work given that these beetles are pests that threaten agricultural yields of legumes. OPs work by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinerase (AChE) in the beetles. Without this enzyme, the neurotransmitter acetylcholine can t be broken down and its overflow leads to the eventual death of the beetle. Results obtained by ... Once we collected the data on the 15 individual beetles, we found the sample mean relative inhibitions per experimental group and their respective sample standard deviations. Our experimental prediction: if we perform the colorimetric enzyme assay (described on pp. 73 76 of the Course Supplement) on two groups of beatles one cultured on mung beans and one cultured on black eye peas we will observe a statistical difference in the respective relative inhibitions. Results and Data Analysis: Beetles bred on mung beans exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.32% with a sample standard deviation of 26.41%. Beetles bred on black eyed peas exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.42% with a sample standard deviation of 17.97%. This data is reflected in the bar graph in Figure 1 below. The large bars show the respective means and the error bars show a range of one standard deviation about the mean. A two tailed t test yields a t value of 0.99. In To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time and To His Coy Mistress, what do Herrick and Marvell say about time and its effects on youth and beauty? Herrick s poem is a warning to young, beautiful, unmarried women to make the most of their time and marry young. He does not address it to any particular woman, other than young virgins. He uses to metaphor to compare the women s youthful beauty to flowers that will begin to die as they age. Meanwhile, Marvell s poem is a bit more personal. How would you paraphrase the last two lines of Marvell s To His Coy Mistress ? In both poems there is a sense of urgency. Certainly, the theme of carpe diem is in Herrick s verse as he utilizes the sun and its measure of a day as a metaphor for the swift passage of time. Even though Herrick and Marvell take different approaches toward the sun as a timekeeper, both their poems stress the need to enjoy love while there is yet time. 6. • 37. ##bols And Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding Symbols and symbolism are important to have in a story because it helps readers to focus on the deeper meanings and themes under the main story. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a novel that contains myriad symbolism. The novel is about a group of young boys who get stranded on an island with no adults, and the boys need to collaborate to survive; however, as time goes on, the collaborative efforts crumble and the boys begin to reveal their inner savage nature. To show the progression of savagery in the boys, Golding uses several symbols the conch, the mask, and the beast but none of these symbols are as important as the fire. The fire is the most important symbolbecause it emphasizes the importance of hope and rescue on the island, and how it can prevail even through the bos savage nature. On an island with no hope and seemingly no escape, the fire provides and symbolizes hope and rescue to escape the island. When Ralph is rallying the boys in the assembly, his main priority to the boys is that [they] must make smoke on the top of the mountain, [they] must make a fire (38). At this point in the story, Ralph has already been established as the leader, so his priority is very powerful to the boys on the island, to which they run to the mountain and attempt to create the signal fire. This quote is also important because it establishes the symbol of fire to be a beacon of hope and rescue for the boys, which is essential if they want to escape the island alive. ... Trifles is a coming up story about women, in other words its about women and their rise to power. Glaspell embodies the women spirit by showing the power, conning, and intectellt of the women in her play. When people think of power the first thing that comes to mind is a man Women are shown to be weak, mindless and serving, but in Trifles Glaspell depicts women to have more fire and power. In 1900 s women were housewives they did not own anything and did what they were told kind of like slaves. Trifles shows Mrs. Peters, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Wright as something much more than that. Right in the beginning (1860) it shows that Mrs. Wright might have committed murder.Trifles shows that this woman could have possess the power to kill a man. That was unheard of in the 1900 s because women did not speak out or defend themselves against a man. Mrs. Hale shows just a snippet of her power when The County Attorney on page (1861) says Dirty towels! Not much of a housekeeper, would you say, ladies? Mrs.Hale claps back with There s a great deal of work to be done on a farm. Mrs. Hales defends Mrs. Wright because she knows just how difficult it is to maintain a household and didn t feel that was necessary because they had Mrs. Wright leave in a hurry. Although I wanted nothing more than to disregard my repeated blunder and never look back, I knew that this strategy would fall short when I performed the piece for my teacher the following day. So with perseverance, focus, and fear of a disapproving glare, I managed to play it through faultlessly. Now all that remained was the small task of playing the piece an additional four times in a row with that same impeccable accuracy. Upon realizing the amount of work ahead of me, I mentally kicked myself for not starting sooner and lengthened my timer from the remaining twelve minutes to another thirty. It was time to woodshed this until I got it right every time. Playing the piano has been a rewarding experience for me throughout my life for not only granting me the skill of playing, but also for teaching me lessons that can be applied to my academic and personal life.
