draft, not a finished product. The end of the story never resolved the problems or questions set by
the premise. I understand that this is the first book of a series, but a clear, resolved ending is more
satisfying to a reader than a blunt one.
Since Revolt of the Rats needs professional editing and a tighter rein to keep the plot on track, I
would not recommend it to readers, so I give it 2 out of 4. The editing and typesetting issues were
the main reasons I could not give this book a higher rating, but the undeveloped nature of the story

The character most important to me is Felicia, Aurora s mom, because she is like the earth that
tries to convince Aurora that Echo Park is part of her life, because it s their home. In chapter 2,
the disconnection between Aurora and Felicia originates with the death of Alma. Alma dies,
when it was supposed to be Aurora the one that should have died. The only thing that saved her
was not following Felicia s orders, so she moved and didn t receive the bullet that killed Alma.
After this event, Aurora starts to not follow her mom s orders and ends up leaving Echo Park,
their home, and her mom. She decides that she doesn t want to live her entire life in Echo Park;

In chapter 8, the connection that is developed between her and Aurora shows that Aurora could
come back to Echo Park. Felicia s decision of giving her dog, Blackjack, to Aurora and making
her accept that it is her dog now, represents her accepting that Echo Park is her home. Through
this act, Felicia s intentions of making Aurora realize that Echo Park is part of her identity and
her home is proven. Therefore, when the dog escapes and gets lost, she sends Aurora to find it
as if she sends her to realize that Echo Park is her home. Through her journey of finding the dog,
Aurora finds herself learning what Echo Park has become from what she remembers. This shows
that Felicia is the earth because she never left Echo Park and she wanted her daughter to not leave
it either. She wanted Aurora to not forget where her real home is, which identifies her and makes
her part of Echo Park too. I think Felicia s character is important to the novel and the realization of
Aurora towards Echo Park being her home. I believe we need to remember from where we come
and be proud of our roots because that is what identifies us and makes us unique. It is not wrong
to want to succeed in life like Aurora wanted to, but we also need to know and accept ourselves,

a lot of comparisons between the stories. Dystopian literature whether it be novel, film, or short
story focuses on similar characteristics and things. A similarity that these three dystopias have in
common is the time setting. All of these stories are set to be in a futuristic time, or at least a time
that was the future from them. For instance, Orwell s book 1984 was written in 1948 as it stated on
