Part (D.) Native History
1.What are Native Land Claims?
The native people of Canada were no given equal rights, respect and even importance as that
was given to other people or to the foreigners. The aboriginals of Canada were not liked by
white settlers and it was decided to take their land without showering blood or any type s
riots. The target of Canadian government not only native people but also the immigrants
from India were included, as result of which Frank Oliver made changes in Indian Act in
1991. According to new changes, Indians were removed from their land for constructing
public infrastructure and even some land was taken for making schools for the children.
As a result of this, people protested and demanded for their land back, consequently the

Internal Struggles Of The Bread Giver
Internal Struggles of the Bread Giver
The Bread Giver is about an internal struggle that went on within a recently immigrated Jewish
family. Not only were they coping with the changes of coming to America, but gender roles
within the larger community were also shifting. The turn of the century was ripe to explore areas
of tradition that many racial groups considered revered, and traditionally held beliefs would be
called into question when likened to issues of practicality and basic survival needs. The
evolutionary process from old to new had begun and there was no way to stop its forward
movement. Sara was soon to become a pioneer in her own right.
Reb Smolinsky, the forbearer of the family, spent his life on a quest for enriched learning and
understanding of the Holy Torah. His Talmudic study and religious discussions were an honored
occupation in the eyes of the Jewish community, but provided little in support for his family;
therefore, the family was forced to accept community donations of charity for their basic needs.
While the pursuit of religious focus was considered a respectable profession among the males,
females of the household were only educated in the essentials and expected to work and sacrifice
for the males. While Mr. Smolinsky saw the badge of poverty as an honor and responsibility, the
females in the family were embarrassed and humiliated amongst their neighbors and always
worried about what the next day would bring. This is hard for some of

A Campaign Against Kfc
1) I personally do not support KFC Corporation or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in
this controversy. This is because I myself am not a fan of meat and do not like the taste
personally, but I also do not think it is all right by any means with what they do to the animals. I
believe that they are completely abusing these animals so carelessly and it is extreme animal
cruelty. I feel like a majority of other people would say it is perfectly fine though. This is because
many people do like meat and businesses are going to continue on harming the animalsand
receiving their meat and selling it to make profit. People will always continue to buy it because

PETA is also trying their best to make a big deal out of this and draw as much attention as possible
for the animal s own rights and simply to raise awareness on the ongoing problem. I think PETA is
representing a truth with the business and they do have the right to make attacks to get them to
make the change.
6) I absolutely 100% believe that animals have rights because they are alive just like us human
beings are. Animals definitely have emotions and feelings just like we do and can also speak out
lout but we necessarily cannot always figure out what they are trying to portray. I believe since
we are human beings, we should be the ones to make sure animals are safe and can live without
being harmed in the wild or as pets, in other words that can be looked at as our duty.
From the reading of the case and how PETA portrayed KFCbeing cruel and not handling their
chickens respectfully, I do not think that they protect animal welfare at an acceptable level. They
can definitely make they changes that PETA stated about the business. Either way, many people are
going to have different perspectives about this and may think that what KFC is doing is completely
fine because they are making

Review Of Jonathan Franzen s The Corrections
Author s Life: Jonathan Franzen was born August 17, 1959 in Western Springs, Illinois. He
grew up in Webster Groves, Missouri, raised by his two parents, Irene and Earl T. Franzen.
Growing up, his passion for writing was never praised in his household, especially by his
parents. In a recent interview held in an office at the University of California, Santa Cruz,
Franzen was asked by interviewer Stephen J. Burn, if his work was ever encouraged at home.
Franzen responded, Mostly not, no. I hate the word creative, but it s not a bad description of my
personality type, and there was no place for that in my parents house... it was actively discouraged
as a serious pursuit. My parents were dismayed and perplexed and angry when my older brother

With little luck in Boston, the two moved to New York a few years later where Franzen sold his
first novel. The Twenty seventh City was his debut novel and was published in 1988 marking the
beginning of his career as a writer. In 1992, Franzen published his second novel, Strong Motion,
followed by eight years of hard work on his third novel, The Corrections, which was published in
2001. The Corrections was a huge success and became an international bestseller, got nominated
for several major book prizes, and was awarded the National Book Award. As well as being a
phenomenal novelist, Franzen also spends his time writing essays for the New Yorker
magazine. The multiple essays he had contributed to the New Yorker he later configured into his
fourth novel, How to Be Alone, which consists of fourteen of Franzen s essays. He published a
memoir, The Discomfort Zone, in 2006, followed by a 2010 novel by the name of Freedom.
Freedom was a huge success, winning the 2011 John Gardner Prize for fiction and the Heartland
Prize as well as leading Franzen to make an appearance on the cover of Time magazine under the
headline Great American Novelist. This appearance is a huge honor as it was only the second time
in the last decade that a living writer has been on the cover of this national

Long-Carbohydrate Diets
In recent years, dietary approaches for long term weight loss have been a topic of interest. The rise
of overweight and obese individuals continues to grow throughout the world. The prevalence of
other diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and many more are also increasing
due to the multifactorial characteristics of increased weight and obesity. There are many questions
asking if dietary composition, especially macronutrients, plays a role in decreasing and maintaining
weight. The optimal dietary approach for long term weight loss, when including macronutrient
composition, remains unclear. The recommendations for carbohydrates, protein and fats are cited in

Dietary approaches for long term weight loss have been a topic of interest for the past couple of
decades. As the rise of obesity continues, research is focused on macronutrient distribution and
the effect it has on an individual s long term weight. A diet that may be the most adequate with
the information collected could be a moderate protein diet with a low glycemic index and high
omega 3 fatty acids and MUFAs. According to the research cited above, this diet seems to work
the best for overall weight loss and weight maintenance. Factors that should be considered in long
term weight loss include the difficulty of adherence to dietary patterns resulting in potential for
meal replacements, if necessary. Meal replacements and personalized diets might be needed to
help increase long term weight loss due to the different characteristics of each individual. Some
individuals may not be able to adhere to a standardized diet because they may have a serious
health condition that needs a specialized diet or may be due to the differences in body size and
composition. Carbohydrates, protein and fat all play an important role in weight loss but due to
lack of long term studies on these macronutrients, the optimal dietary approach remains

Short Story Foreshadowing
Foreshadowing convinces us that Laurie is Charles. For example, Laurie has to think before he
tells his mom about his first day of kindergarten. Laurie s mother states Laurie thought. It was
Charles ... (p.11). He needed time to think first, then he says, It was Charles because he had to
think of a pretend name so that he wouldn t get in trouble for disobeying the teacher and being
fresh. In the story, it says, Charles hits the teacher. He hit the teacher because the teacher wanted
him to color with red crayons, but he wanted to color with green crayons. This shows
foreshadowing because unless Laurie was Charles he wouldn t know why Charles is acting this
way. In addition, Laurie told his father that Charles made a girl say a bad word, and that the girl
said it twice. It infers that Laurie is Charles because he said that bad word to his father joyfully. The
author wants us to know that lying is not okay and that you should tell the truth no matter what.
After finding out that there is no Charles in kindergarten, Laurie s parents will discover that Laurie
is Charles.

Feminist Synthesis Essay s Under The Black Flag
Man the mast! , Down with the sails, she s going down! the captain barks orders out of fear of
losing the beloved ship and his life. The storm is the worst this vessel has ever seen. As you look

rope is secure you make your way below deck to thank him but as you turn the corner, you see
him take his shirt off to ring out the water and realize that he is not a he at all; Thomas is a
woman. Within the Golden Age of Piracy, many women have been involved in expeditions on the

They typically did housework their job was to raise children. The influence of these views from
society carried over to the ships and crews. We see that many pirates and captains did not allow
women on board their ships or to be a part of their crews. In Under the Black Flag by David
Cordingly, we see that Mary Read and Anne Bonny both joined crews while being disguised as
men and proved to be just as capable at the tasks that were done by men on board. This is proven
because the men were surprised to find that Anne and Mary were in fact women because they
had functioned just as equally as men did. In fact, Anny Bonny and Mary Read were surprised
to find that the other was a female. Cordingly explains that even though Captain Jack Rackman
knew Anne Bonny to be a female when he married her, it was still necessary for her to dress and
act as a man on board ship (Cordingly 57). To dress as a man was to take advantage of the
freedoms offered to men over women. The upsetting truth is that these same freedoms, as stated

Born February 12, 1809, Charles Robert Darwin Was An English
Born February 12, 1809, Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist and geologist. Best
known for his bold scientific approach in explaining transmutation or evolution, as it is recently
termed, of natural selection. Formulating his theory secretly from 1837 39, after returning aboard

Others believe in Darwin s theory of natural selection, where it all started about five millions year
ago.
It is said that there were once apes, different to the known species of the 20th century that
advanced genetically as time progressed. Beliefs are held that these apes or Hominines evolved
becoming bipedal causing them to walk up right, and their babies to be twisted and turned to
pass through the birth canal. Overtime their cognitive abilities allowed them to generate new
ideas to build new tools that also increased survival and reproduction. Darwin believed that
humans, apes and chimpanzees all share a common ancestry. The recent sequencing of the
gorilla, chimpanzee and bonobo genomes confirms that supposition and provides a clearer view
of how we are connected: chimps and bonobos in particular take pride of place as our nearest
living relatives, sharing approximately 99 percent of our DNA, with gorillas trailing at 98 percent
(Wong, 2014). Fossil records today strengthen Darwin s theory as results concluded that the
phylogenic of species and ontogeny of humans evolved from an organism known as the great ape
or Hominid a large tailless primitive that lived 7 million years ago.
Darwin s theory of evolution contains some basic biological principles as it relates to natural
selection and contributes to survival, these includes:

Abstract As the ipv4 addresses are being exhausted, the globe is adopting ipv6 protocol in place of
the ipv4 protocol. Also the number of YouTube users in android and iOS are increasing day by
day. Under this scenario, the operator is concerned about the influence of both IP versions on the
popular video streaming website YouTube in android as well as in iOS environments to provide
better video streaming experience for the YouTube users. In this paper we emulated the android and
iOS environments in windows platform. The emulators are connected to the Internet using both the
Internet protocol versions and then the streaming parameters which give the performance of
YouTube are calculated. The values of these parameters describe the impact of both IP versions.

Schema of The Process of Studies
Results:
Figure 1 shows the schema of the process of choosing the studies that were included in the review.
The primary Pubmed search recognized 55 articles.
We excluded six studies that were about gestational hypertension; eight that defined awareness as
knowledge of the effects of hypertension rather than awareness of hypertensive status ; fifteen
review papers and guidelines and five studies did not met the criteria.
Ultimately 21 studies were included in the systemaic review of the awareness, treatment and control
of hypertension in Egypt. Figure (2) shows governorates in Egypt represented in the included
studies. Of the 21 included studies, 13 were cross sectional, 3 case control studies, 3 systematic
reviews and 2 hospital based observational studies.
Table (3) summarizes cross sectional included studies showing their findings and results.
The sample size ranged from 27 subjects to 12008 subjects, and the age range from 6 95 years. All
the studies had both genders (male and female) represented. In most of the studies, the women were
more than the men in number of particepants.
From these studies, results about prevalence and knowledge of physicians were clear as following:
Hypertension prevalence increased ever more with age, with the exception of the oldest age group
(≥75 years). In the youngest age group, hypertension was present in 7.8% of the population.
The prevalence rate was 59.4% in the 65 74 age group[1].

Against Periodontal Disease
How to Fight Against Gum Disease
Periodontitis is a condition that is usually caused by plaque build up. It is pretty common in that it
affects most people at some point in their life. Symptoms may include loose teeth, oral sensitivity,
persistent bad breath, and swollen gums. If left untreated, this ailment could advance into a serious
infection that causes the breakdown of connective tissue and bone, which ultimately leads to tooth
loss.
Even more worrying is the possibility of the pathogenic bacteria finding its way into your
bloodstream and infecting other parts of your body. This makes it important to combat periodontal
disease as early as possible.

You can start with rinsing with a homemade saline solution made of half a teaspoon of salt and a
glass of lukewarm water. A popular Ayurvedic practice also worth trying is swishing coconut or
sesame oil for 15 to 20 minutes. You may make a paste of baking soda with water which you
apply to your gums two to three times a week too. Better yet, just rub aloe vera on the affected areas.
Contact the experts
For more advanced forms of periodontal disease, your dentist may suggest one of several types of
surgical procedures to fully eradicate inflammation and abscesses. Your options include grafts
where lost bone is replaced with man made materials or where exposed roots get covered;
regeneration where lost tissue is encouraged to regrow using stimulating proteins and other
materials; and flap surgery where gums are lifted away, tartar is removed, and gums are then
sutured back.
Prevention and treatment is most effective when you swiftly take action. Thus, if you ve noticed
any of the symptoms of periodontitis, you should apply the steps suggested above as soon as
possible. Do not forget to consult with a specialist for more personalised recommendations or

Analysis Of J. Donald O Meara
J. Donald O Meara (1989) defines cross sex friendship as a personal relationship between an
unrelated man and woman who share no romantic feelings towards each other. He broadens his
definition by allowing that a lack of romance does not necessarily entail a lack of sexuality or
passion. This understanding allows for the possibility of sexual attraction, but not romantic
attraction. Other definitions prohibit all forms of sexuality, passion, and romance, while still others
allow them. In cross sex friendships where sexual and/or romantic attraction exists, what role do
they play in the relationship? Do they end friendships immediately upon dissolution of the
attraction? Or do they enhance the quality and longevity, bringing the dyad closer together? This
paper aims to answer those questions, assuming sexual and romantic attractions are both permitted
in classifying cross sex friendships. The frequency of sexual attraction in heterosexual cross sex
friendships differs between males and females, as does that of romantic attraction. Sexual
boundaries are not clearly defined in these relationships, adding to the complications and
ambiguity for both members of the dyad (Bleske Buss, 2000). Moreover, there are several different
types of love, and many levels of attraction. Rawlins (1982) describes platonic love (emotional
relationship without a sexual component), friendshiplove (emotional and sexual expressions of
affection; potentially unstable), physical love (sexual

My purpose in life is to observe and learn from everything I come across. Whether it is from a
person, animal, experience, or object. My purpose is to accumulate this knowledge and grow

Using my strengths quest theme qualities, I am positive that my strengths will guide me to
success. With these qualities, I will successfully reach my personal goal of paying my car loan in

This goal is important to me because I have an enormous interest with the work carried out by the
BAU. Human behavior interests me, but what s most interesting to me is finding out why the
behaviors are carried out by people. The BAU works with solving criminal cases to determine the
cause of the attacks, murders, or rapes. With this information, they can use it to help stop the
criminals while additionally preventing this type of behavior in the future since they now have the
behavior cues to look for in individuals. This ties into my purpose statement because as
aforementioned, learning interests me but especially learning about human behavior and in return I
am prepared to give back to society by assisting in keeping them safe from these targeted crimes.
My capacity to be analytical as per my strengths quest results infer that I will successfully be able
to accomplish these tasks using critical thinking. My analytical qualities will also assist with
helping me stand out from my peers while at the same time providing important feedback while
solving cases. One possible obstacles for not achieving this long term career goal is that I don t
meet the requirements for joining the FBI. I can overcome this obstacle by ensuring I do as much
research as possible with their requirements and ensure I meet these stipulations before graduating.
Another way to overcome this obstacle is to participate in their internship program as an

Analyzing James Miller s Acting Our Culture
A picture says a thousand words. In Acting Our Culture , a book edited by James miller, we get this
representation clearly from Norman Rockwell and John Holyfield in their Thanksgiving visual
representation paintings. Both artist provide us with their own interpretation and view of the
thanksgiving holiday depicting in both what they believe the holiday season is about. 3 main
themes in these pieces are family, color, and culture the rootof both paintings, this being what ties
as well as separates them as works of art.
The first thing you will notice between the paintings are the family s presented. The presence of
their relation is evident due to a few factors. In Rockwell we get the differences in age from the
little kids present at the table to the middle aged couple on the left side of the photo (Rockwell),
then in Holyfield s we get the same view of age difference across the table representing the
occasion to be a gathering of family. They also share the same main meal that being the turkey

contrast is revealed. If you pay close attention to the painting the scene of family changes between

people in different societies have different culture and food, but they also have some similarities.
The culture varies in different things such as clothes, foods, religion, and many others. Not only the

Comparing Hamlet And Gladiator
Since the beginning of time, humans have attempted to correct an unjust behavior through the act
of seeking revenge. But does seeking revenge really correct the wrongs? Mahatma Gandhi once

However, in Hamlet, Hamlet delays his actions and is not able to act on his intentions, while on
the other hand in Gladiator, Maximus is much more determined to have revenge. Hamlet and
Maximus both feel the responsibility to take revenge in order to restore justice or the chain of
being. In response to the internal turmoil that Hamlet is experiencing he questions his existence
and states, To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the
slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by
opposing end them (3.1.57 61). In this particular instance, Hamlet displays his hesitation towards
the idea of having revenge. He is unable to make up his mind as he tries to rationalize his purpose.
On the other hand, in Gladiator, Maximus is a much more straightforward thinker. He clearly states
his purpose of revenge when he meets Commodus for the first time after his wife and son were
murdered. He says to Commodus, My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius... Father to a murdered

The Short, Savage Life of A Civil War Guerrilla by Albert...
The most deadly and violent war in history also known as the civil war, belongs to the United
States of America. Not only was this war the bloodiest war in history but it help shape and develop
some of the most gruesome and ferocious men. Bloody Bill Anderson was one of these men, who
viciously fought in the civil warfor the south. His extreme passion for slavery and war was proven
numerous times as he and his ruffian s murdered, demolished, and destroyed towns and villages in
Missouri and Kansas. In Bloody Bill Anderson: The Short, Savage Life of a Civil War Guerrilla,
Albert Castel and Thomas Goodrich provide a look at the real war by describing a gritty,
brutally realistic portrait of William Anderson, and his malicious acts to protect what he
believed. In this review I will look at the life of William Bloody Bill Anderson and what shaped
and made him the most vicious, ruthless man in guerilla war fare in the civil war and how he
fought till the very end. I will also look further into him and his jay hawkers in terms of the
destruction and gruesome acts that took against Union troops and those in support to abolish
slavery. The book begins by a private on sentry duty just on the outskirts of Fayette, Missouri. This
private felt a certain uneasiness about that day, however and those instincts or intuition just
happened to be right; an attack on Fayette by bushwhackers believed to be led by non other than
Bloody Bill himself. Bushwhackers were not soldiers, at least

Psychological Consequences of Earthquakes
Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, hurricanes and cyclones, floods, and tornadoes are some of
the traumatic experiences that may cause posttraumatic stress disorders. This type of disorders and
other disaster related psychological problems are prevalent after natural disasters. As a result it is
important to analyse those individuals that develop psychological problems especially to prepare

The Importance Of Racial Diversity In High Schools
Literature Review
The racial climate at primarily white institutions has been widely publicized, especially as
discussions about political correctness in American society have increased. The University of
Louisville was criticized in 2015, when local news outlets publicized tensions present in the school
s honors dorm and the school s president, James Ramsey, faced backlash for donning a Mexican
garb for Halloween season festivities. The following literature review attempts to set a foundation
for the discussion of whether or not students are prepared to interact with students from racial
backgrounds different from their own, and whether or not students who have experienced
discrimination in college expected to when they chose the University of Louisville. High schools
have recently made news for decades of slow moving, but noticeable resegregation. Some
communities have succeeded in producing lasting integration, but others have been segregated by
race, and often, income as well, leading to decreased educational opportunity and achievement.
More important to this study is the result that this resegregation has had on the makeup of high
schools many schools lack ample opportunity for students to encounter classmates of different
backgrounds. Resegregation has diluted the diversity at high schools and left students unprepared
for the potential increase in diversity they will experience in college (Frankenberg). If minority
students are discriminated against, it s

Uses And Advantages And Disadvantages Of Communication...
Communication is a fundamental skill which everyone adopts in the society. It is a method
where a non verbal or verbal message is being sent and received from two or more people through

they can demonstrate empathy, awareness and concern for others and are aware of their own

These are a few advantages of using email as a source of communication within the workplace.
However, emails do also have its disadvantages if they are not produced effectively.
Following on from the advantages, it also comes with some disadvantages, the biggest being spam
emails which contain links to malicious content, potentially stealing or corrupting a company s

Malicious content sent through emails are heavily disguised and usually luring you to an

Jurassic Park Essay
Jurassic Park
The story of Jurassic Park was written about fourteen years ago by a man named Michael
Crichton. His book has now evolved into three movies of Jurassic Park I, II, and III. Steven
Speilberg has taken the story of Crichton is transformed it into one of his action packed, suspense
thrillers.
The first main theme that makes the story of Jurassic Park is its setting. The setting is a huge
factor in the understanding of the story. The story takes place on an isolated island off the coast of
Costa Rica that has become a theme park exhibiting prehistoric dinosaurs. Here dinosaurs roam
unrestricted. The only restraint they have were gates and fences that could easily be knocked down
by the gigantic animals.

The turning point in both the movie and the book is when the storm comes. A huge hurricane is
going to hit the island dead on. There is nothing the people could do except wait it through. The
storm is more massive then anyone expected and it knocks out the power to the whole island. This
is the point at which the book and movie differ again.
The book tells that the storm knocks out all the power to the island and to all the electrical gates.
This is a major problem for the scientists. This puts their safety in jeopardy. There is now nothing
protecting the people from the dinosaurs because there is no power going through the electric
fences. This is when all hell breaks loose. The dinosaurs realize that they are not being restrained
any more and break loose. They are roaming about the island while the scientists scramble to get
the power back on through a generator. During all the chaos the dinosaurs have already taken out
five people out of the team of ten.
The movie differs a little bit from the book at this point. During the storm all of the scientists go
out to try to get the power back on and to try to stay alive. Raptors have raided the lab and center
of the park and are hungry for some people. The raptors and other dinosaurs take out three people
out of the team of ten in the movie. Like the book the people scramble to get the power on but

Effect Of Natural Forces On Sister Carrie
The Effect of Natural Forces on the Characters in Sister Carrie
In the novel, Sister Carrie, many characters believe that they have the ability to pave the pathway
toward their future. However, they don t realize that few of these actions are determined by them.
They are clueless as to how little a choice they have in making their decision, because of the natural
forces that impact them. Forces such as societal pressure, luck, and their level of sophistication
impact their state of mind, causing them to pursue a different pathway. These forces cause
Hurstwood and Carrie to purse an option that they would not normally pursue. Hurstwood and
Carrie believe that they have more control over their lives then they actually do. However, it
appears that their varying degrees of self determination is less than they assume because of forces,
such as level of sophistication, luck, and societal pressure that play a profound role in dictating
their decisions.
What appears to be human choice is influenced by the character s subjectivity and recklessness
towards their situation, depending on their age. Dreiser only reveals to the reader that Carrie is
from Wisconsin; however, he fails to inform the reader anymore about her past or experiences that
she has had. This leads one to believe that Carrie is experiencing these events for the first time,

dichotomy of good and bad that is actually causing self harm to society. This mindset simplifies
our own thinking because we are limiting ourselves to an either or basis and do not focus on the
grey area between good and bad, because our reality is never just black and white; these are just
generic terms. In hindsight, the problems that we see today are a result of the detrimental and

Bagger in this is illustrating that our authentic swing is what we are born with, our original
selfhood who we are called to be, and is unique to you only. Bagger stresses this once again by
saying, Now play the game. Your game. The one that only you was meant to play. The one given

points that Parker Palmer is. Both Palmer and Bagger and saying that we have an original
selfhood we were born with and area called to find and become, and this is unique to the individual

The Legend of Bagger Vance and Palmer both illustrate the aspect of whose am I? Palmer
describes the theme of whose am I as an idea of relationships and how our relationshops affect our
vocation. Palmer illustrates this when he says, For there is no selfhood outside relationship
(Palmer). We cannot become our true self without understanding our relationships. We need
relationships to help us find out more of who we are as well as we need this relationships to
sometimes help to guide us and grow us. This same idea of relationships is illustrated throughout

How Do Arunta Tribes Reflect Their Society

do what they do. Their customs reflect their society because everything they do has a reason. Some
customs may have come about because of the environment, the natural resources, or possibly just
beliefs. There are several customs about familyand kinship. An Arunta camp usually has one to
two families. The Arunta live in such small groups so they do not have to worry about hunting a

If the Arunta men were staying away from camp hunting for several days, it would be easier to

only a little meat and still be able to find the whole camp. An Arunta family is usually by itself,
but each family belongs to a clan. The clan is made up of several families, who hunt and live
separately. Nevertheless, the members of the clan are all related. This is kinship. The Arunta
clans have to marry outside their own clan so the clans will mix. The clans have no other social
connections so this is very important. Without this custom, the clans would not be friendly with
each other and wars would probably happen often. There are no forms of government or
authority, so the older men of the society make decisions for the society. They have no way of
giving reasons for their decisions, so they are guides more than they are leaders. Kinship is very
important here because if a serious crime erupts, such as murder, families will take revenge on
families. The family is important because if the murderer?s family were small, they would surely
suffer a great deal. Kindness and respect are very important in a society because the Arunta have
no time for warfare and feuds. They need to spend all their time trying to survive. When someone
dies, the family goes into a mourning period. The relatives of the person show sadness by cutting

Visual Object Agnosia And Prosopagnosia
Agnosia is defined as the inability to recognize objects through the processing of sensory
information, which means there is no deficit in semantic memory or problems with naming objects.
An individual suffering from agnosia still possesses all the relevant semantic information tied to a
precept, but they cannot recognize the precept when it is presented to them and therefore trigger
the recall of said information. There are many types of agnosia, but this essay will focus on visual
object agnosia and prosopagnosia. The former is the inability to recognise objects: patients
suffering from visual object agnosia do not have impaired vision, and in some cases can even
copy the object they are seeing (patient H.J.A., Humphreys Riddoch, 1987) or draw it from
memory (patient D.F., Milner Goodale, 1992), but are unable to recognize it when they see it. In
the latter, prosopagnosia, patients cannot recognise faces of familiar individuals, and have to rely
on other characteristics such as their voice or clothing to recognize them. Patients suffering from
prosopagnosia can either acquire it through a lesion in relevant brainareas (acquired prosopagnosia)
or for less understood reasons have it from birth, in which case it is termed developmental
prosopagnosia. The study of patients with agnosia is integral to the field of visual recognition, as
the specifics of their deficits can provide great insight into the ways our brain processes
information; for example, the location of

One of the foremost reasons why Roosevelt won was because people believed that he could take

pointing out the importance of awareness and escaping the natural, default setting of an

in nature, Wallace takes a deliberative rhetorical stance. According to Fahnestock, deliberative

Connors (1979) argues the need for a lower complexity of the logical appeals in speech, stating
that appeals must be presented slowly and reiteratively (1979, p. 288). Wallace uses multiple
adjectives to describe an item or idea, and the scenarios in his examples are described
extensively, which makes them more pertinent and comprehendible. For example, the store is
hideously, fluorescently lit, and infused with soul killing Muzak or corporate pop. (Wallace,
2008, para. 6) In his 1945 study, Ray Ehrensberger states an orator must First tell em what you re
gonna tell em; then tell em; finally, tell em what you told em (p. 102). Wallace opens with an
ironic analogy which, in itself, contains the kernel of truth he is trying to communicate. A young
fish asks another What the hell is water? (Wallace, 2008, para. 1) This scenario is chosen
purposefully because it is simple and relatable, which enables Wallace to present a new
perspective on a familiar concept. Wallace later explains that point of the story is that the most
obvious, important realities are often the ones that are the hardest to see and talk about, (Wallace,
2008, para. 2) and repeats this thesis throughout the speech. In the last few lines of his speech,
Wallace again states his message in simple terms of the importance of awareness. He reminds the

Alice Parker Rhyme Scheme
In an incendiary blend of form and deep meaning, Parker is able to relay a precautionary tale to
modern women about modern love through a cynical synopsis that forewarns her readers to
shield themselves from naivety. Parker uses a conventional rhyme scheme (ABABAB) to frame
the portrait of her image of modern romance for her reader, and when read aloud it sounds like a
lullaby of sorts. Mr. Player drew my attention to the irony in Parker s rhyme scheme, for when
read aloud it sounds like a sing songy nursery rhyme yet carries a substantially more serious
message. Her diction is simplified, yet astutely worded to convey a concise message to her reader.
As Mr. Player read this aloud, I envisioned the poem as dialogue of three speakers. In her

Foils In Hedda Gabler
In the play Hedda Gabler, Henrik Ibsen uses dramatic foils to criticize societal expectations of
women in 19th century Norwegian Society. Ibsen manipulates the literary devices within the play
to portray the contrasting passions, desires and goals that vary within the female characters. In turn
showing their struggle against Victorian society and seeking intellectual or even emotional
empowerment as individuals. The stage description, introduces Hedda s as an aristocratic lady who
physically embodies breeding and distinction . Through the nouns breeding and distinction , Ibsen
conveys a sense of being moulded by Norwegian society to conform to societal norms. A depiction

Like Hedda, Thea has entered a loveless marriage, a marriage of convenience. Both are
dissatisfied by their husband s inability to fulfil their emotional and intellectual needs. However,
Thea asserts her individuality, renounces a distasteful marriage, and gains freedom. Unlike
Hedda, she has no fear of gossip and scandal: I have done nothing, but what I had to do, Thea is
unrepentant about leaving her husband, disregarding social norms to seek fulfilment. In doing
so she finds intellectual fulfilment within a metaphorical marriage with Lovborg, creating a
child . Lovborg refers to the book as being a physical representation of Thea s pure soul showing
that the act of destroying the book was similar to child murder as it took away the absolute joy
and fulfilment that Thea had been seeking, which is very similar to the emotions that women
tend to develop when they have their own children. In contrast, Hedda s impending pregnancy
saddens her because a child will tie her down and therefore she seeks to strip Thea of her
fulfilment by burning Thea and Lovborg s child similar to her desire to burn Thea s hair. The
usage of the verb, burn shows Hedda s destructive and vicious nature towards Thea who has found

Athletes With Abnormal Av Conduction Characterized By An...
Athletes with abnormal AV conduction characterized by an HV interval 90 ms or a His Purkinje
block should have pacemaker implantation. Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT): SVTs are not
more common in athletes than in the general population of a similar age distribution, with the
possible exception of atrial fibrillation (AF). Treatment of these SVTs with catheter ablation is
likely to achieve a permanent cure and, in general, is preferable to lifelong therapy with
pharmacological agents. Atrial Fibrillation: Athletes with AF should undergo a work up that
includes thyroid function tests, queries for drug use, ECG, and echocardiogram. Athletes with low
risk AF that is well tolerated and self terminating may participate in all competitive sports without
therapy. In athletes with AF, when antithrombotic therapy, other than aspirin, is indicated, it is
reasonable to consider the bleeding risk in the context of the specific sport before clearance.
Catheter ablation for AF could obviate the need for rate control or antiarrhythmic drugs and should
be considered. Syncope: Athletes with exercise induced syncope should be restricted from all
competitive athletics until evaluated by a qualified medical professional. Athletes with syncope
should be evaluated with a history, physical examination, ECG, and selective use of other
diagnostic tests when there is suspicion of structural heart disease or primary electrical
abnormalities that may predispose to recurrent syncope or sudden

The firing of the palace, mentioned day, began at 8:30 in the morning, preceded by a
conversation between the chief of staff of the junta, Admiral Carvajal, and President Allende on
the resignation of the head of state as a price for protection. Allende objected to this proposal and
Gen. Pinochet s soldiers began attacking the palace, defended by the supporters of the president .
At 11: 00 Allende, by radio station, gave the nation his last message, that he will not leave the
palace and will defend Chile until the end . Around 12: 00, the bombing of the palace began,
combined with the storming of the army, culminating in the capture of the palace by the
uniformed and suicide of Allende around 14:00 . Since 1981 (after a seven year reconstruction
of the building) until 1988, the executive authorities of the military junta were in the palace .
After taking over by Patricio Aylwin in 1989, the palace was rebuilt, from the destruction of the
military rule and its reopening took place on September 30, 2003 . Villa Grimaldi is also
important in the field of symbols and memory. After September 11, 1973, it has forcibly changed
its destiny from a residential home to a torture center where 4,500 people were detained and 229
of them disappeared . When the junta ended, the area of Villa Grimaldi was razed to ground by
gen. Pinochet s soldiers, to hide the evidence of human rights abuses that were committed there .

The Role Of Robots In The Military
During the last few decades, technology has advanced. The modern technology has the capacity to
build robots that are now being used in the military. This website discusses the diverse uses and
advantages robots have in the military force, especially in combat. Everyday soldiers go on
suicidal missions in different parts of the world. These robotshave a sense of comfort to these
soldiers to prevent an injury and even death. Certain uses of these robots include performing
dangerous tasks humans cannot be exposed to, using different type of weapons that are 100 percent
effective, and having robots that include cameras to detect enemy troops. Along with these
maneuvers, many advantages for the militaryoccur, such as programming the robotto perform a task
they asked for, completing missions without humans actually been there, and destroying enemies
without hurting soldiers. All of the purposes that robots serve within the military frontier contribute
to the big picture of how the functions of robots help us as a society. Everyday, society observes
that humans now depend on technology in one way or another. This allows the use of robots to be
implemented in the medical field, allowing them to perform surgeries, in the military by letting
robots complete missions without the presence of humans, and to increase the production and profit
in big industries. In this article, their main concern is to prevent humans from drying on the suicidal
missions they go to. According to

Stereotypes In HIANG RAI, Thailand
HIANG RAI, Thailand No one asked the elephants, or their mahouts.
In 1989, to halt the rape of its thick forests, Thailand banned the centuries old industry of logging.
The result: Logging was stopped (legal logging, anyway) and thousands of elephants suddenly
found themselves jobless. This was less of a problem for the elephants than for their gobsmacked
mahouts (owners), who faced the challenge of providing their elephants with about 500 pounds of
food a day with no source of income.
The mahouts chose a practical, but sad, path. Many took their elephants to the crowded capital of
Bangkok, a city with more than 8 million people, jammed streets, and high pollution.
Tourists paid to have their pictures taken with the elephants, watch them beg, or do tricks they were
taught by training methods that might have been painful, even ... Show more content on

But those activists have to answer this question: Who will pay to feed the elephants if the elephants

Roberts admits that at the beginning the relationship between elephants and the resort was purely
commercial, but ethical.
The resort reckoned that having elephants would be a unique selling point for the hotel, which pays
Roberts salary and most of the administrative expenses of the foundation, which has four staff
mahouts and one vet. When I was there in late November, two Australian veterinary student interns
were getting hands on experience.
The resort admittedly uses elephants as a profit point. Hanging with the gentle, social beasts does
not come cheap. The least expensive formal contact, a half hour trek walking with them through the
forest costs $47.50. One day of mahout training two hour sessions in the morning and afternoon
costs $190. A three day mahout course is $475. (Buying packages can reduce the

No More Miss America By Robin Morgan Essay
Many radical feminist groups such as the New York Radical Women group (NYRF) gathered
together as The Women Liberation Movement to protest against the deep rooted conception of a
traditional woman in the United States during the Second Wave Feminism (1960s 1990s). The
Women Liberation Movement was a demonstration of challenging society s common sense, or
hegemony, which was nurtured by the dominant ideologywhich in this case was a genderhierarchy
where men were believed to be superior to women. The primary source No More Miss America by
Robin Morgan describes her experiences as a participant of the NYRF protesting against the Miss
American Pageant in Atlantic City on September 7th 1968. The NYRF group discussed ten points
of how the Miss American Pageant promoted the traditional woman stereotype based on racial
beauty standards, submissiveness, and inferiority to men. The NYRF protest critiqued both the
representation side of the behavioral expectation of traditional women as well as the structural side
of the obstacles that women faced within social institutions such as labor and educational
opportunities. With the representative side traditional women promoted by the Miss American
Pageant, it reinforced women s submissive and sexist inferiority and racial beauty criteria within
the structural side to be approval by men. However, there was intersectionality in the structural
obstacles and representation side extending the social discriminationbased on

A Comparison Of The Hobbit And The Story Of Sigurd
As the English poet Robert Graves said One gets to the heart of the matter by a series of
experiences in the same pattern, but in different colors. This quote is exemplified in the stories of
The Hobbit and The Story of Sigurd when they have action and use the same hero s journey pattern
to create a great story. Both authors of the stories use strong and resilient characters in their stories
to take down the monsters. In this case, there are two heroes taking down a greedy dragon. Based
on the stories and characters, authors are also able to show their own opinions in the stories.

outcomes in the story, showing that authors follow the same... Show more content on

This asking of questions shows that the dragons can use that information to manipulate the
character into thinking about something in a different way. However, in both stories, the character
doesn t give in to the persuasiveness, but Bilbo from The Hobbit does give Smaug just the slightest
of information of where he came from and Smaug used it to cause destruction. From finding all the
similarities in the two stories there is enough information to conclude that Tolkien used The Story
of Sigurd to gain ideas to create The Hobbit, however both stories are also very different. Of
course in every adventure story, you need a protagonist, and in The Hobbit and The Story of
Sigurd both show great examples of heroic protagonists. Plus, both of the heroes kill the huge
dragon similarly. A main thing that the two heroes have in common is that they use a special
weapon to kill the enemy. In The Hobbit, Bard uses a rare arrow called a black arrow ; Arrow! said
the bowman. Black arrow! I have saved you to the last. You have never failed me and always I
have recovered you. I had you from my father and he from of old. (Tolkien 251). Sigurd also uses
a special sword to kill the dragon Fafnir; Then Sigurd went to his mother, and asked for the
broken pieces of his father s blade, and gave them to Regin. And he hammered and wrought them
into a new sword, so sharp that fire seemed to burn along its edges. (Lang).

There Should Be Guidelines To Human Experimentation
The modern understanding of medicine was created by the many people who were subjected to
medical testing without their consent. There should be guidelines to human experimentation.
Human experimentation should only be performed on consenting adults that understand what is
going to happen. In other words, the doctors should get informed consent from their patients. There
have been many unethical human experimental trials performed on people that had no idea what
was happening to them. This is unethical and very dangerous for the people. There also have been
different guidelines and codes for human experimentation, such as the Nuremberg Code and the
Declaration of Helsinki. An example of such unethical human experimentation is The Tuskegee
Syphilis Experiment. This happened in Alabama and was performed by the U.S government in
1932. The men that were in the trial were given free health care, meals and burial insurance. 399
men had syphilis beforehand and 201 did not. Funding was cut for the experiments but they still
continued to study these men even though the antibiotic penicillin had come out in 1947. They told
the men that they had something called bad blood and they refused to tell the men that they had
syphilis. This trial was continued until 1972 when the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Immigration hardliners in Trump s administration said DACA was illegal. They, including
Sessions, urged him to end the program. Some other advisers, including chief of staff John Kelly,
reportedly did not want him to terminate DACA. Many GOP congressional leaders signaled to
Trump not to end the program either. There s a proposal in Congress to provisionally protect
dreamers. Sessions said DACA s wind down gives Congress time to address dreamers immigration
status.
It was his decision to announce, on September 5, that his administration would be winding down
the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a program he didn t mention outright, that
many people didn t know about and even fewer understood. The Deferred Action for Childhood

Princess Diana Impact Of Beauty
Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that
one day someone might do the same for you (Diana, Princess of Wales). Princess Diana was one
of the world s most beloved and recognizable figures. Diana exemplified beauty and style, yet she
was more than a pretty face as she changed the way the public looks at modern monarchies through
her humanitarian efforts and down to earth approach.
Diana s life seemed like a charmed one. She was the daughter of nobility chosen to marry the
Prince of England. Diana, Princess of Wales, 1961 97, was wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, heir to
the British throne. The daughter of the 8th Earl Spencer, Lady Diana Frances Spencer was a
kindergarten teacher in London before her 1981 marriage to Charles (Princess of Wales, Diana).
Diana was chosen specifically for her youth and beauty so that she could produce attractive and
healthy offspring for the British monarchy. They needed a male heir and a spare. She delivered
on her end of the deal when William was born in 1982, and Harry, in 1994 (Princess of Wales,
Diana). Diana was supposed to do whatever she was told by the royal family, and produce sons.
Her personal happiness was not a factor. Her husband had an ongoing affair with his long time love
Camilla Parker Bowles during most of his marriage to Diana. They fought constantly, and it didn t
help that she often stole the spotlight with her effortless grace and beauty.

Essay about Health Care Reform in the United States
Health Care Reform
Health care has been an area of discussion for some time now. In the United States, the current
health care system is a private system that allows individuals to choose their own method of care.
Despite the freedom that comes with the independent nature of this type of health care system, the
true disposition creates more problems than it solves. The privacy of the health care institutions has
caused affordability and access to become serious issues with this system. Additionally, those with
lower socioeconomic status fall short of the ability to access the same pool of resources as
everyone else. Due to the issues with affordability, access, and the poor infrastructure of the health
care system, a universal health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These facts point out that the system currently at play is rather ineffective and therefore ought to
be changed. Money plays a huge role in access, therefore it is a vital issue to discuss. Within the
current system, lack of money results in lack of health care, which leaves thousands of people
without any health care coverage. Between 2001 and 2005, the number of people paying for health
insurance increased 30%, however income only raised 3% (Health Care Problems). Adequate
income is a necessity and unfortunately that is not present. According to the National Conference
of State Legislatures, the average annual premium across the country is $16,000. Currently, the
average annual income in the United States is $51,107. Mint Money Management suggests that
about 4 6% of one s total income should be spent on insurance, including life, disability, and health
insurance. However, the averages in the United States show that the average person spends about
31% of their income on health insurance, which is not financially beneficial. When this rise in
health insurance is not parallel to the inflation of income, innocent people are left without a
method to achieve health care. There is a program for those who can t afford health insurance out
of pocket nor have access to it, and that is called Medicaid. Issues still exist with the program.
There is only so much funding, which leaves many still uninsured. Additionally, people with
Medicaid have difficulty

October Sky Character Analysis
October Sky: Emotions Everyone s done it. Said something that was meant to sound like
something, but then sounded like they were saying it another way. Well I ve found a way to train
yourself into knowing how they meant to say it, you read a book and you try to identify the
emotions of the characters. In the memoir October Sky, the character, Homer Hickam, shows lots of
different emotions. The true story was published in1998, it s about a boy and his friends who build
and launch off their own rockets in their hometown Coalwood, West Virginia. In this story Homer s
biggest change is his emotions. Three examples would be: when he gets Mr. Bykovski resigned
to a different job and killed, when Ms. Riley gave him a rocket science book, and when he
launches off his final rocket in Coalwood. Wouldn t you feel guilty if you accidentally got
someone reassigned from their job, and then killed? Well Homer knows how that feels. When he
was first starting out in the rocket business he went to a friendly welder named Mr. Bykovski, Mr.
Bykovski agreed to help Homer. Homer s dad didn t approve of his rocket building activities, and
he claimed that Mr. Bykovski helped Homer steal, which earned Mr. Bykovski a promotion to title
as coal loader: He [Mr. Bykovski] smiled a sad smile. Anyways, perhaps it is a good thing he has
done I will make more money loading coal (114). Mr. Bykovski got in trouble for doing something

Abc Model Of Crisis Intervention Analysis
The ABC Model of Crisis Intervention is a method of conducting very brief mental health
interviews with clients whose functioning level has decreased following a psychosocial stressor
(Kanel, 2018). The most effective way to use the ABC model is four six weeks after the stressor.
Cultural humility and trauma informed care are the key points in this model as well as providing
community referrals and other resources when using the ABC model. According to Kanel (2018),
the focus of this method is identifying the cognitions of the client as they relate to the precipitating
event and then altering them to help decrease unmanageable feelings. The first known mention of
this method was in 1968 but then it was further developed by Kanel over the course of 30 years.
Within the ABC method, there are three approaches. The three approaches are achieving rapport,
boiling the problem down to basics, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

intervention strategies: the seven stage crisis intervention model, psychological debriefing, and

What Is The Difference Between Chris Langan And Robert...
Chris Langan and Robert Oppenheimer are both profound and intelligent authoritative figures, but
other than smarts they could not be more different. For example, Gladwell illustrates the early lives
of the men by detailing: Langon and Oppenheimer, both with very high IQs, both ran into problems
during college, Langon s mom forgot to fill out paperwork resulting in him losing his scholarship to
college, while Oppenheimer tried to poison his tutor resulting in merely just psychiatric treatment
(98). Langan had a very unfortunate childhood with not many opportunities to share his intelligence
with the world. On the other hand, Oppenheimer was supported morally and financially by his
parents, sent to the right schools and constantly given the benefit of the doubt when he caused
trouble. One of the reasons Oppenheimer unlike Langan was so successful due to his practical
intelligence or charm and savvy that allowed him to get his way. Chris Langan and Robert
Oppenheimer are both geniuses but Oppenheimer s practical intelligence gave him opportunities for
success that Chris Langan did not receive.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Gladwell states that: Joe Flom took a low job at a low law firm and handled the

times, or setbacks, was a golden opportunity that no one else received. In Flom s case, it was
becoming an expert on litigation cases. The quote suggests that hidden in his huge success story
was a product of his own setbacks and hardships that allowed him to be

  • 5. Internal Struggles Of The Bread Giver Internal Struggles of the Bread Giver The Bread Giver is about an internal struggle that went on within a recently immigrated Jewish family. Not only were they coping with the changes of coming to America, but gender roles within the larger community were also shifting. The turn of the century was ripe to explore areas of tradition that many racial groups considered revered, and traditionally held beliefs would be called into question when likened to issues of practicality and basic survival needs. The evolutionary process from old to new had begun and there was no way to stop its forward movement. Sara was soon to become a pioneer in her own right. Reb Smolinsky, the forbearer of the family, spent his life on a quest for enriched learning and understanding of the Holy Torah. His Talmudic study and religious discussions were an honored occupation in the eyes of the Jewish community, but provided little in support for his family; therefore, the family was forced to accept community donations of charity for their basic needs. While the pursuit of religious focus was considered a respectable profession among the males, females of the household were only educated in the essentials and expected to work and sacrifice for the males. While Mr. Smolinsky saw the badge of poverty as an honor and responsibility, the females in the family were embarrassed and humiliated amongst their neighbors and always worried about what the next day would bring. This is hard for some of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Campaign Against Kfc 1) I personally do not support KFC Corporation or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in this controversy. This is because I myself am not a fan of meat and do not like the taste personally, but I also do not think it is all right by any means with what they do to the animals. I believe that they are completely abusing these animals so carelessly and it is extreme animal cruelty. I feel like a majority of other people would say it is perfectly fine though. This is because many people do like meat and businesses are going to continue on harming the animalsand receiving their meat and selling it to make profit. People will always continue to buy it because places are providing it for them and they like the taste and look past with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PETA is also trying their best to make a big deal out of this and draw as much attention as possible for the animal s own rights and simply to raise awareness on the ongoing problem. I think PETA is representing a truth with the business and they do have the right to make attacks to get them to make the change. 6) I absolutely 100% believe that animals have rights because they are alive just like us human beings are. Animals definitely have emotions and feelings just like we do and can also speak out lout but we necessarily cannot always figure out what they are trying to portray. I believe since we are human beings, we should be the ones to make sure animals are safe and can live without being harmed in the wild or as pets, in other words that can be looked at as our duty. From the reading of the case and how PETA portrayed KFCbeing cruel and not handling their chickens respectfully, I do not think that they protect animal welfare at an acceptable level. They can definitely make they changes that PETA stated about the business. Either way, many people are going to have different perspectives about this and may think that what KFC is doing is completely fine because they are making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He grew up in Webster Groves, Missouri, raised by his two parents, Irene and Earl T. Franzen. Growing up, his passion for writing was never praised in his household, especially by his parents. In a recent interview held in an office at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Franzen was asked by interviewer Stephen J. Burn, if his work was ever encouraged at home. Franzen responded, Mostly not, no. Freedom was a huge success, winning the 2011 John Gardner Prize for fiction and the Heartland Prize as well as leading Franzen to make an appearance on the cover of Time magazine under the headline Great American Novelist. The rise of overweight and obese individuals continues to grow throughout the world. The prevalence of other diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and many more are also increasing due to the multifactorial characteristics of increased weight and obesity. There are many questions asking if dietary composition, especially macronutrients, plays a role in decreasing and maintaining weight. Dietary approaches for long term weight loss have been a topic of interest for the past couple of decades. As the rise of obesity continues, research is focused on macronutrient distribution and the effect it has on an individual s long term weight. A diet that may be the most adequate with the information collected could be a moderate protein diet with a low glycemic index and high omega 3 fatty acids and MUFAs. According to the research cited above, this diet seems to work the best for overall weight loss and weight maintenance. Factors that should be considered in long term weight loss include the difficulty of adherence to dietary patterns resulting in potential for meal replacements, if necessary. Meal replacements and personalized diets might be needed to help increase long term weight loss due to the different characteristics of each individual. Some individuals may not be able to adhere to a standardized diet because they may have a serious health condition that needs a specialized diet or may be due to the differences in body size and composition. Carbohydrates, protein and fat all play an important role in weight loss but due to lack of long term studies on these macronutrients, the optimal dietary approach remains ... • 10. Short Story Foreshadowing Foreshadowing convinces us that Laurie is Charles. For example, Laurie has to think before he tells his mom about his first day of kindergarten. Laurie s mother states Laurie thought. It was Charles ... (p.11). He needed time to think first, then he says, It was Charles because he had to think of a pretend name so that he wouldn t get in trouble for disobeying the teacher and being fresh. In the story, it says, Charles hits the teacher. He hit the teacher because the teacher wanted him to color with red crayons, but he wanted to color with green crayons. This shows foreshadowing because unless Laurie was Charles he wouldn t know why Charles is acting this way. In addition, Laurie told his father that Charles made a girl say a bad word, and that the girl said it twice. It infers that Laurie is Charles because he said that bad word to his father joyfully. The author wants us to know that lying is not okay and that you should tell the truth no matter what. After finding out that there is no Charles in kindergarten, Laurie s parents will discover that Laurie is Charles. Foreshadowing convinces us that Laurie is Charles. The storm is the worst this vessel has ever seen. As you look to your left for help tying the rope your friend Thomas reaches out a hand to assist. Once the rope is secure you make your way below deck to thank him but as you turn the corner, you see him take his shirt off to ring out the water and realize that he is not a he at all; Thomas is a woman. Within the Golden Age of Piracy, many women have been involved in expeditions on the seven seas. They typically did housework their job was to raise children. The influence of these views from society carried over to the ships and crews. We see that many pirates and captains did not allow women on board their ships or to be a part of their crews. In Under the Black Flag by David Cordingly, we see that Mary Read and Anne Bonny both joined crews while being disguised as men and proved to be just as capable at the tasks that were done by men on board. This is proven because the men were surprised to find that Anne and Mary were in fact women because they had functioned just as equally as men did. In fact, Anny Bonny and Mary Read were surprised to find that the other was a female. Cordingly explains that even though Captain Jack Rackman knew Anne Bonny to be a female when he married her, it was still necessary for her to dress and act as a man on board ship (Cordingly 57). To dress as a man was to take advantage of the freedoms offered to men over women. The upsetting truth is that these same freedoms, as stated before, were not offered to ... Beliefs are held that these apes or Hominines evolved becoming bipedal causing them to walk up right, and their babies to be twisted and turned to pass through the birth canal. Overtime their cognitive abilities allowed them to generate new ideas to build new tools that also increased survival and reproduction. Darwin believed that humans, apes and chimpanzees all share a common ancestry. The recent sequencing of the gorilla, chimpanzee and bonobo genomes confirms that supposition and provides a clearer view of how we are connected: chimps and bonobos in particular take pride of place as our nearest living relatives, sharing approximately 99 percent of our DNA, with gorillas trailing at 98 percent (Wong, 2014). Fossil records today strengthen Darwin s theory as results concluded that the phylogenic of species and ontogeny of humans evolved from an organism known as the great ape or Hominid a large tailless primitive that lived 7 million years ago. Darwin s theory of evolution contains some basic biological principles as it relates to natural selection and contributes to survival, these includes: 1.Variation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Analysis Of J. Donald O Meara J. Donald O Meara (1989) defines cross sex friendship as a personal relationship between an unrelated man and woman who share no romantic feelings towards each other. He broadens his definition by allowing that a lack of romance does not necessarily entail a lack of sexuality or passion. This understanding allows for the possibility of sexual attraction, but not romantic attraction. Other definitions prohibit all forms of sexuality, passion, and romance, while still others allow them. In cross sex friendships where sexual and/or romantic attraction exists, what role do they play in the relationship? Do they end friendships immediately upon dissolution of the attraction? Or do they enhance the quality and longevity, bringing the dyad closer together? This paper aims to answer those questions, assuming sexual and romantic attractions are both permitted in classifying cross sex friendships. The frequency of sexual attraction in heterosexual cross sex friendships differs between males and females, as does that of romantic attraction. Sexual boundaries are not clearly defined in these relationships, adding to the complications and ambiguity for both members of the dyad (Bleske Buss, 2000). Moreover, there are several different types of love, and many levels of attraction. Rawlins (1982) describes platonic love (emotional relationship without a sexual component), friendshiplove (emotional and sexual expressions of affection; potentially unstable), physical love (sexual ... Their customs reflect their society because everything they do has a reason. Some customs may have come about because of the environment, the natural resources, or possibly just beliefs. There are several customs about familyand kinship. An Arunta camp usually has one to two families. The Arunta live in such small groups so they do not have to worry about hunting a lot of food for big camps. If the Arunta men were staying away from camp hunting for several days, it would be easier to care for five or six men instead of twenty. It would also be easier to be able to come home with only a little meat and still be able to find the whole camp. An Arunta family is usually by itself, but each family belongs to a clan. The clan is made up of several families, who hunt and live separately. Nevertheless, the members of the clan are all related. This is kinship. The Arunta clans have to marry outside their own clan so the clans will mix. The clans have no other social connections so this is very important. Without this custom, the clans would not be friendly with each other and wars would probably happen often. There are no forms of government or authority, so the older men of the society make decisions for the society. They have no way of giving reasons for their decisions, so they are guides more than they are leaders. Kinship is very important here because if a serious crime erupts, such as murder, families will take revenge on families. The family is important because if the murderer?s family were small, they would surely suffer a great deal. • 40. Visual Object Agnosia And Prosopagnosia Agnosia is defined as the inability to recognize objects through the processing of sensory information, which means there is no deficit in semantic memory or problems with naming objects. An individual suffering from agnosia still possesses all the relevant semantic information tied to a precept, but they cannot recognize the precept when it is presented to them and therefore trigger the recall of said information. There are many types of agnosia, but this essay will focus on visual object agnosia and prosopagnosia. The former is the inability to recognise objects: patients suffering from visual object agnosia do not have impaired vision, and in some cases can even copy the object they are seeing (patient H.J.A., Humphreys Riddoch, 1987) or draw it from memory (patient D.F., Milner Goodale, 1992), but are unable to recognize it when they see it. In the latter, prosopagnosia, patients cannot recognise faces of familiar individuals, and have to rely on other characteristics such as their voice or clothing to recognize them. Patients suffering from prosopagnosia can either acquire it through a lesion in relevant brainareas (acquired prosopagnosia) or for less understood reasons have it from birth, in which case it is termed developmental prosopagnosia. The study of patients with agnosia is integral to the field of visual recognition, as the specifics of their deficits can provide great insight into the ways our brain processes information; for example, the location of ... David Foster Wallace expands on this idea in his Kenyon College 2005 Commencement Address, pointing out the importance of awareness and escaping the natural, default setting of an unconscious, self centred life. While commencement speeches are typically epideictic celebratory in nature, Wallace takes a deliberative rhetorical stance. According to Fahnestock, deliberative discourse is used in order to persuade in the best possible course of future action (1998, p. 333). For example, the store is hideously, fluorescently lit, and infused with soul killing Muzak or corporate pop. (Wallace, 2008, para. 6) In his 1945 study, Ray Ehrensberger states an orator must First tell em what you re gonna tell em; then tell em; finally, tell em what you told em (p. 102). Wallace opens with an ironic analogy which, in itself, contains the kernel of truth he is trying to communicate. A young fish asks another What the hell is water? (Wallace, 2008, para. 1) This scenario is chosen purposefully because it is simple and relatable, which enables Wallace to present a new perspective on a familiar concept. Wallace later explains that point of the story is that the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are the hardest to see and talk about, (Wallace, 2008, para. 2) and repeats this thesis throughout the speech. In the last few lines of his speech, Wallace again states his message in simple terms of the importance of awareness. Parker uses a conventional rhyme scheme (ABABAB) to frame the portrait of her image of modern romance for her reader, and when read aloud it sounds like a lullaby of sorts. Mr. Player drew my attention to the irony in Parker s rhyme scheme, for when read aloud it sounds like a sing songy nursery rhyme yet carries a substantially more serious message. No More Miss America By Robin Morgan Essay Many radical feminist groups such as the New York Radical Women group (NYRF) gathered together as The Women Liberation Movement to protest against the deep rooted conception of a traditional woman in the United States during the Second Wave Feminism (1960s 1990s). The Women Liberation Movement was a demonstration of challenging society s common sense, or hegemony, which was nurtured by the dominant ideologywhich in this case was a genderhierarchy where men were believed to be superior to women. The primary source No More Miss America by Robin Morgan describes her experiences as a participant of the NYRF protesting against the Miss American Pageant in Atlantic City on September 7th 1968. The NYRF group discussed ten points of how the Miss American Pageant promoted the traditional woman stereotype based on racial beauty standards, submissiveness, and inferiority to men. The NYRF protest critiqued both the representation side of the behavioral expectation of traditional women as well as the structural side of the obstacles that women faced within social institutions such as labor and educational opportunities. In this story Homer s biggest change is his emotions. Three examples would be: when he gets Mr. Bykovski resigned to a different job and killed, when Ms. Riley gave him a rocket science book, and when he launches off his final rocket in Coalwood. Wouldn t you feel guilty if you accidentally got someone reassigned from their job, and then killed? Well Homer knows how that feels. When he was first starting out in the rocket business he went to a friendly welder named Mr. Bykovski, Mr. Bykovski agreed to help Homer. Homer s dad didn t approve of his rocket building activities, and he claimed that Mr. Bykovski helped Homer steal, which earned Mr. Bykovski a promotion to title as coal loader: He [Mr. Bykovski] smiled a sad smile. • 56. Abc Model Of Crisis Intervention Analysis The ABC Model of Crisis Intervention is a method of conducting very brief mental health interviews with clients whose functioning level has decreased following a psychosocial stressor (Kanel, 2018). The most effective way to use the ABC model is four six weeks after the stressor. Cultural humility and trauma informed care are the key points in this model as well as providing community referrals and other resources when using the ABC model. According to Kanel (2018), the focus of this method is identifying the cognitions of the client as they relate to the precipitating event and then altering them to help decrease unmanageable feelings. The first known mention of this method was in 1968 but then it was further developed by Kanel over the course of 30 years. Within the ABC method, there are three approaches. The T is for traumatic stress reactions, sequelae, and post traumatic stress disorders (PTSDs) (Roberts, 2005). When working with the ACT model, it is not necessary to use the stages in ... • 57. What Is The Difference Between Chris Langan And Robert... Chris Langan and Robert Oppenheimer are both profound and intelligent authoritative figures, but other than smarts they could not be more different. For example, Gladwell illustrates the early lives of the men by detailing: Langon and Oppenheimer, both with very high IQs, both ran into problems during college, Langon s mom forgot to fill out paperwork resulting in him losing his scholarship to college, while Oppenheimer tried to poison his tutor resulting in merely just psychiatric treatment (98). Langan had a very unfortunate childhood with not many opportunities to share his intelligence with the world. On the other hand, Oppenheimer was supported morally and financially by his parents, sent to the right schools and constantly given the benefit of the doubt when he caused trouble. One of the reasons Oppenheimer unlike Langan was so successful due to his practical intelligence or charm and savvy that allowed him to get his way. Chris Langan and Robert Oppenheimer are both geniuses but Oppenheimer s practical intelligence gave him opportunities for success that Chris Langan did not receive.... For example, Gladwell states that: Joe Flom took a low job at a low law firm and handled the unwanted to litigation cases for quite some time, however as soon as there was an abundant number of divorce cases, Flom was an expert (145). The statement shows that buried in his hard times, or setbacks, was a golden opportunity that no one else received. In Flom s case, it was becoming an expert on litigation cases. The quote suggests that hidden in his huge success story was a product of his own setbacks and hardships that allowed him to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
