Siddhartha Journey
Siddhartha was determined to never go back to his life of wealth. Siddhartha approached the same
river where he met the ferryman years before. He saw the water as mirroring the emptiness within
him. About to slip into the water, the word Om emanated from his soul. Siddhartha realized that
destroying his body would not end his suffering. He fell asleep. Siddharthawoke up with a sense of
rebirth and repeats Om to himself. Then Siddhartha noticed Govinda but Govinda had not
recognized him. Govinda left to get back to being a monk.
Siddhartha was completely absorbed by the tranquil presence of the ferryman, as earlier he had
been by that of Gotama Buddha. Siddhartha saw his life s path reflected in the flow of the river. He
realized that

Carrying Capacity
Carrying Capacity The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil,
but because of the people who don t do anything about it (Albert Einstein). In our world today
people are ignorant. Humans use their imagination too much and their brain too little. Also,
people don t do anything to solve their problems because we think nothing could go wrong, we
expect others do fix everything. That is where we re wrong. Today lots of people are saying the
world won t reach a carrying capacity, but I disagree. I think the world will reach its carrying
capacity before 2100. This will happen for many reasons: Natural Disasters, Wars, too little... Show

This means that a lot of people are not getting the stuff they need. The rates of people who don t
get enough to eat is skyrocketing. People are becoming homeless because of competition on jobs
and much more. Everything is getting more expensive and some people can t afford what they
need. The website worldhunger.org tells us about how there is enough food on this earth for
everyone to get a good meal. So what s stopping us? Greediness and expensiveness. Today we
have one big problem; Natural Disasters. Everything else is kind of preventable and fixable, but
not Natural Disasters, they are indomitable and inevitable. We have: Tornadoes, Tsunamis,
Volcano Eruptions, Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Monsoons and much more. Global Warming has
affected us too. Lots of things effect on us, but it s not the effect it has, but how it affects our
ability to get over it. When a big tornado hits and kills a lot of people, what do we do? We let it
get a hold on us; fear takes over and we scramble for our only chance hope. We hide. So after a
big storm happens and lots of people are killed we still don t do the big thing. We don t help.
Some people like the Red Cross and other Organizations, help the people in need, but a lot of
people still stay in their cushy lives. They don t help them. If we can t help them over the
inevitable, than how can we help them with things we can

Pecola Breedlove Racism
become completely immersed in misery and go insane. This was the fate of Pecola Breedlove.
For Pecola, constant abuse by society and her family had made her so utterly alone. Her brother
had run away from home by encouragement from his mother, who had rejected the family and
gone to work for a white family. By working for the white family, she got everything that she
wanted and was needed. In doing so, she rejected the needs of her family entirely, not even her
own daughter could call her mother instead she was forced to call her Mrs. Breedlove , a symbol
of the unfamiliarity of the connection that should be filled with love, but was only filled with
hatred and rejection. This increased when Pecola was raped by her father, followed by her
mother beating her until the baby died. This final blow, the hopelessness of rejection caused by
both the internal and external racism, was what drove Pecola insane, and would drive any
person to madness, because the pain that this racism caused is the pain of being alone, a pain
which no human can bear. The abuse from racism is never forgotten, it leaves a scar; the pain
may recede after time, but the scar remains. Pecola Breedlove s story should serve as a reminder of

Ortance Of Following Orders And The Emphasis Of How It...
The importance of following orders and the emphasis of how it applies to unit structure
including the specialty of a soldier On Wednesday, 28 February 2015, I was given instructions
and failed to do so by taking initiative and went to talk to my Platoon Sergeant SFC Taylor. I
understand my mistakes and what they can cause that is why I am writing this essay about the
importance of following order, with emphasis on how it applies to our unit and our specialty.
Failing to follow instructions, no matter who delivers them or how trivial they may be considered
to be, to anyone, is a serious offense and I understand that it will not be tolerated. My actions and

Now who in the armed forces does following orders apply to? Well if I m not mistaken everyone
in armed services has to follow the orders and directions given to them. Unless you re the
Commander in Chief, then you can make the orders. This brings us back to the chaotic vision
we imagined earlier. So whether you re in a position of authority or the on the receiving end of
the given order it s very important to follow orders. It s an essential part of working as a soldier,
marine, sailor or airman in the armed forces. It s necessary around the world regardless of your
station, chain of command and type of armed service you re employed with whether its Army,
Navy, Marines, or Air force. Following orders is a big part of being in the military and the time
we spend in our home country following orders prepares us for war. However it also prepares us
and also plays a big role and importance for Jobs outside the military. Orders come from a chain of
command which, for NCO s and junior enlisted, is the NCO support channel. The NCO support
channel is designed to be subordinate to and supportive of the chain of command. The NCO support
channel is not an independent channel. It is mandatory of the users of this channel to ensure that
the chain of command is kept informed of actions implemented through the NCO support channel

Inhumanity In Ww1
On June 28th, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated; his death would be
the spark that ignited World War I. Spanning over the course of four years, World War I, due to
new military technologies and the horrors of trench warfare, saw unprecedented levels of carnage
and destruction. Soldiers in the trenches were surrounded by inhumanity and depravity ; they
could not escape the overwhelming boredom, the desire to kill, and the constant threat of disease
and shellfire (Slade 1583). The war claimed the lives of more than 16 million people, and those
who survived beyond the battlefield were forever altered. As soldiers began to leave theatres of
war the effects of perpetual torture began to manifest rapidly. These wounds were... Show more

This concept is clearly captured within the novel when Stephen states This is not a war, this is
an exploration of how far men can be degraded (Faulks 145). During battle, men have to let go of
what they once believed to be right and just in order to survive. Notably, this issue presents itself
when the enemy evolves from a conceptual being into a human, which causes soldiers to realize
that they are killing men who are no different from them. In order to such avoid moral conflicts,
soldiers had to detach themselves from the harsh realities of the war. For instance, Jack, unlike
Weir and Brennan, forces himself to disconnect from his emotions in order to avoid shell shock.
Although he destroys feelings toward his fellow soldiers and the enemy, when faced with the
prospect of his own death, Jack cannot bury his emotions: The indifference he had cultivated,
however, was to the extermination of the enemy, his colleagues, and his friends; he was not [...]
indifferent to the prospect of his own death (Faulks 127). Faulks reveal of Jack s desire to
preserve his own life demonstrates the moral irregularities soldiers faced during the war. Some
soldiers, like Jack, are able to disregard the importance of human life if it results in their own
survival; therefore, Faulks suggests that not only does war lead men to question their own morals
but will also destroy these

Masking In Me Before You, By Jojo Moyes
Masking Is Good...Or Is It?
When was the last time you wore a mask? Was it beneficial or harmful to you and/or others?
Masking started a really very long time ago, and it still happens today. It happens occurs all the
time constantly, and everyone will do it sometime in their life. People change their persona
depending on where they are and their environment. Masks can be worn mentally or physically,
and for many different purposes, including plays, religion, rituals, or trying to fit in. These
devices can also be harmful or beneficial painful or profitable to you, someone else, or society.
Sometimes Some days it affects all of these things. They Masks give people the power to do what
they want, and give them the courage, but it can backfire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another reason people mask themselves is so that they can change how society views them,
therefore people don t get to be who they really truly are. In the book, Me Before You , written
by Jojo Moyes, Will Traynor doesn t get to live the life that he wants to live. This life he wants to
live is the one he had before the motorcycle accident, where had had become mostly paralyzed.
Louisa, his caregiver, separated his depression a bit from him, but he still decided that he
wanted to commit suicide because of both the physical and mental pain he is going through.
This Throughout the story shows that Will masks himself therefore because he can t be who he
truly is and who he wants to be. In the book, Will explains to Louisa about his old self, with his
memories and experiences. He recalls a time when he was in Paris, going through the cafГ©s
and the city square. Louisa mentioned her taking him to Paris, but Will described that he wants
to go as his old self and not the person he is now because it causes too much pain. He had a great
life before, full of fun and sports, but now, everything is different. The mask is keeping Will
from having a good life and the one that he was meant to have. Masks, an article by George
Ulrich, states, In play these children and adults are able to become something they are not;
something that cannot be...One of the most important things that masks do is transform the
identity of the wearer... These parts of the text shows how masks can change them and who the
wearers really are. This affects people because they spend their life being someone that they aren
t. Some would say that they help people become a person that they want to be. This only applies
to some cases and people need to look at the overall picture. Even if they wear the mask and they
like it on, they aren t who they were meant to

Reoccurring Themes In Dubliners By James Joyce
In Counterparts , in the collection Dubliners by James Joyce, many themes are developed over the
course of the short story. Farrington is oppressed by his boss and at home and he cannot stand
being controlled by his smaller boss and his monotonous work. He finds comfort in the bar,
however this comfort turns into his humiliation and anger again. His anger towards the characters
due to being bossed around and his own clumsiness controlling him is a reoccurring theme in the

workplace, and cannot make copies of legal documents for his job. This incompetence is going to

Consumerism Speech
How many times would you say you thought, I need that bag, or those shoes because everyone else
has them? How many people do you speak to that know who you are as a person and not just the
things you like or the types of food you don t eat. Is it possible that you could, unwillingly and
unintentionally be superficial? Good morning everyone and welcome to the mindset of modern
society, materialistic and consumer driven. Today, the desirable consumerist lifestyle outweighs the
instinct of compassion, which only proves my point that the inherent values of consumerism force
you all; yes you, to be insensitive. The Australian poet Bruce Dawe wrote The Not So Good Earth

Twice? Three times? Does it end? The colloquialisms in the poem only further denote the
inextricable link of consumerism to relationships. When it is linked this closely to people, the very
nature of their interaction is shaped into a shallow never ending cycle of meaningless expression.
The falseness of communication today is directly linked to the consumerist lifestyle and has been
increasing since the late 1880 s. Clancy of the Overflow not only depicts the city as a giant symbol
of materialism, but also portrays the townsfolk as having eager eyes and greedy stating that they
have no time to grow, they have no time to waste . This statement is indicative of the busyness of
people s lives and negligence of other humans. Similarly, when Paterson wrote As they shoulder one
another in their rush and nervous haste he shows the carelessness of people affected by
consumerism in this era, which has only increased from the time of Paterson to the time of Dawe,
and furthermore to present day. What can we do to change? What can we do to stop this perpetual
chain of meaningless things, people and interactions? It begins with the consumer mindset; this is
what influences our identity, and our communications. When consumerism becomes something we
understand and acknowledge we can then bring about change in relationships and eventually

Abstract: Effect of various concentrations of NSAIDs (Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) on
growth of commercial probiotic preparations (A, B, C, and D) were observed by agar well
diffusion assay. Zone of inhibition was recorded after 24 h and found that different samples of
probiotics showed more or less susceptibility to different doses of NSAIDs. This indicates that
NSAIDs beside anti inflammatory response may give antibiotic effect as well.
Keywords: NSAIDs, antibiotic, probiotics.
1. Introduction:
According to the definition by WHO and FAO, probiotics are live microorganisms which when
administered in adequate amounts confers a health benefit on the host. Probiotics are available to
consumers mainly in the form of foods and as dietary supplements.
NSAIDs have analgesic, antipyretic effects and also have anti inflammatory effects in higher doses.
Use of NSAID is associated with increased risk of gastrointestinal and cardiovascular effects mainly
due to the inhibition of prostanoid biosynthesis. NSAIDs have many applications in
pharmacokinetics and medicinal.
This review aims to examine antimicrobial property of NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin, and diclofenac).

The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald Essay
The Great Gatsby (2013), directed by Baz Luhrmann, is a contemporary construct of the original
novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The essence of this film is to portray the American
Dream as understood in the 1920 s. The film (as well as the novel) contains many themes that
correlate to the depiction of the story. The main notable themes that are embodied throughout the
motion picture are social class, love, wealth, isolation, and hope. Nick Carraway, whom the film is
focalized, communicates the elements of the setting and main characters. He portrays this through
his personal experience as an outsider to the wealthy world of the 1920 s, in which this motion
picture takes place. Nick Carraway is a young man who is seeking the achievement of the American
Dream . The three images that are included depict the main themes of the story as well as illustrate
considerable meaning through cinematography. The movie focuses on Jay Gatsbys relationship with
Daisy, his wealth, and himself. In image one, the movie s themes of hope, isolation, and love are
represented. Gatsby is standing at the end of his dock in front of his home looking out to the
green light that is shinning from across the water. The green light is outside of Daisy s property.
Hope is portrayed through the reaching out of Gatsby s hand. He is trying to grasp what is on the

The Holocaust and a war took place because of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party. They believed
the Jewish people and other groups were inferior to the Germans and a threat to society
(History.com). The Nazis thought of them as a race, and not a religious group (Berenbaum). They
also blamed the Jewish for the country s defeat in World War Iin 1918. Because of this hatred

Balloon Agioplasty Essay

Stenting is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that implements the use of synthetic mesh
material to clear vascular obstruction and improve blood flow ( Balloon Angioplasty and Stents ,
2015). Angioplasty involves using a balloon to compress the plaque against the arterial wall in
order to clear the blockage, but there is debate as to which procedure is optimal in minimizing risk
of complications after the procedure ( Balloon Angioplasty and Stents , 2015). According to
Balloon Angioplasty and Stents (2015) these two procedures often go hand in hand, in fact, about
80% of patients who have balloon angioplasty will have a stent placed as well. This procedure can

Review Of Thomas Jefferson s Argumentative Essay
Thomas Jefferson wrote, Determine never to be idle... If is wonderful how much may be done
if we are always doing. I believe that always doing accomplishes more than doing nothing. The
reasons I believe this is because actions always produce results. Also, you will always make
progress no matter what you are doing. If we always accomplish by doing, then what can be
accomplished if you do nothing? You can t achieve any sort of goal if you do nothing; therefore,
I agree with Thomas Jefferson. Firstly, any action we take will always produce some sort of
result. When you re taking action, no matter what for, it always opens up a new path. Whether or
not your actions are related to one another, you ll still achieve some goal. For example, if you

Stone Thrower Wales ( Stw ) Defect
3.0Results and discussion Stone Thrower Wales (STW) defect also referred as pentagon heptagon
heptagon pentagon (5 7 7 5) defect is formed by rotating a C C bond by ПЂ/2, which transforms 4
hexagons into 2 pentagons and 2 heptagons as illustrated in Fig.1. Due to hexagonal and
symmetric geometry of graphene system, only two types of STW defects are possible, STW1
and STW2 defects that are explained with the help of Fig.1. One of the main feature of graphene
with STW defects is that it retains the same number of atoms as the pristine graphene, and also
forms without creating any dangling bonds. Fig.1 STW defects are created by ПЂ/2 rotation of C
C bond about the midpoint. (a) Highlighted C C bond rotates by ПЂ/2 to form STW1 defect. (b)
Highlighted C C bond rotates by ПЂ/2 to form STW2 defect. First set of simulations were
performed with pristine graphene sheet and single STW (STW1 or STW2) defect lying in
pristine graphene sheet along the armchair and zigzag directions. Stress strain response obtained
with STW1 and STW2 defects with respect to tensile loading directions are plotted in Fig.2. The
calculated values of Young s modulus of graphene with armchair and zigzag directions are
0.875TPa and 0.825TPa respectively. These values are in good agreement with the existing results
[41]. Comparing Fig. 2b with Fig. 2c, it can be observed that the strength of STW1 defective
graphene in the zigzag direction (89.2GPa) is higher than that in the armchair direction (13.5GPa).

The Denial of Thousands of Murders: The holocaust vs The Rape of Nanjing
The small things can make a big difference in the world. The holocaust started out as a small
thing against the Jews like making them wear yellow stars. It started with that and then Hitler
turned it into a full scale war against the Jewish. The Jewish people were in the same situation as
the Chinese people were they both tried to hide and run. The Rape of Nanjing were a mass murder
of hundreds of thousands of people that had no involvement in the war. Also like the holocaustthe
Rape of Nanjing started with small fighting and as time progressed it turned into something bigger

2008 Stock Market Crash
This research paper will talk about stock market crashes. How well do financial markets forecast
and impact the economy? The 3 main topics in the research paper are the crashes of 2008, 1987,
and 1929. The first topic for each crash will be about how much money was lost and what the
effect was on the people. The following will be talking why the crashes happened and the impact to
the economy. The paper will conclude with a recommendation on how to forecast stock market
crashes and government intervention that balances the risk and the need to invest for growth.
Every crash people lost thousands sometimes millions or billions. In 2008 they lost 10.2 trillion
dollars and it was the biggest crash. Although the market started to crash on October1st 2008,
the black week began on October 6th and lasted five trading sessions. During black week the
Dow Jones Industrial index would fall 1,874 points or 18.1%. The same week the S P500 fell
more than 20.1%. It became the biggest crash of all time. On to that the government add 250
billion to the banks so the banks won t collapse. There was trouble in the housing markets and
credit markets because of the 2008 crash. It became a worldwide recession and many people lost

A Case Study of One Student s Approach to Reading The Divine Image
Hypothesis
When Marielle, an English 2 student, was given a series of critical thinking tasks, her first
response to the poem, The Divine Image, by William Blake changed as she followed the direction
of each task and built on her previous understanding of the poem. I describe her responses to the
eight learning paper tasks and her dissection of the poem for hidden meanings.
The Tasks and Various Interpretations
For each learning paper, Marielle was given eight different ways to interpret
The Divine Image, by William Blake. Learning paper 1 asked her to read the poem out loud, write
down any ideas that came to mind, then write a summary of what the ... Show more content on

For learning paper 2, she had to reread the poem, then detect and define key words that made a
strong impact on her. What Marielle did was define some of the words she felt were strong Mercy,
Pity, Love and Peace. She then reread the poem and was asked to reinterpret it. After she
identified key words, she felt that this poem is trying to reinforce the importance of being kind to
others and treating them as God would. Mercy, Pity Peace and Love are being reinforced as
necessary human qualities. She looked up the literal meanings of the key words, wrote them down,
and added comments next to the definitions. After defining and commenting on these key words,
her opinion differed.
I am able now to see the correlation between the title the Divine Image and the song itself. The
divine image is expressed in its human form through the actions and feelings of Mercy, Pity, Peace
and Love. The Divine Image is referring to God, humans can be Godlike by performing these four
feelings and actions.
She now felt that humans were considered Divine only if they use Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. In
the beginning, though, she felt that one had to treat others with the same respect like God and that
the characteristics were simply important for humans. Even though her opinion changed, she didn t
use the dictionary s literal meanings to write a translation of the poem, rather she constructed her
version of the poem with the words of the

Examples Of Imagination In Kubla Khan
According to Eagleton imaginative is what the mind can create using its originality and
exceptionality, it is something that has not occurred in real life, or cannot be claimed as something
factually true. It is conceived in the minds of individuals, but not projected into real life. He uses
terms like did not exist literary untrue , inventive to further state his opinion on what imaginative is.
Imaginative for the Romantics had three main functions; the capability to transcend reality, to
recreate memory, and to notify the creation of art.
Coleridge s Kubla Khan is a bright example of the transforming power imagination has. The poet s
usage of diction and allegories transform this poem into a symbol for imagination. It is said that
it was written after Coleridge s encounter with the sublime while still being under the effect of
opium, and when he went to record it, he was disrupted by a visitor and the remaining of the
poem was lost even to him. In the poem he shows how possibilities are limitless as long as our
imaginations are; Coleridge uses caverns measureless to man as a ... Show more content on

Again this piece by Coleridge is a demonstration of this principle. The lyrics flow up to a moment
of clear recollection of the scenery, leaving the poem incomplete so that the faculty of imagination
would not be diluted. Coleridge in the 3 stanzas which he relived captured the sublime, and the
striking feature of this poem is in its deconstructed syntax which eagerly captured the scenery. But
oh! That deep romantic chasm which slanted/ Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover! / A
savage place! . This is a scene that Coleridge experienced in a dream, and its recollection in reality
must express the resplendence of what he felt. We can see that grammatical requirements were not

Virginia Woolf Influences
Sometimes authors lives are almost as interesting as the work they produce, and Virginia Woolf s
life is a tremendous example of this. As a woman writing in the early 20th century, Woolf offers a
unique voice that speaks both to her own fascinating life and to the historical moment in which she
was writing.
Woolf was born in 1882 in London, and throughout her life she had the opportunity to surround
herself with London s elite thinkers. She began writing early and published her first novel, The
Voyage Out, in 1915. She would go on to write numerous novels, short stories, and works of
nonfiction. Some of her most influential writings include Orlando, A Room of One s Own, and
Mrs. Dalloway.
Throughout her life, Woolf suffered from nervous breakdowns and depression, and in 1941, having

These changes, combined with the human capacity for evil that was displayed during WWI,
resulted in many artists believing that it was necessary to disregard traditional art forms and
philosophies and to attempt to create new and revolutionary works of art. This revolutionary
movement came to be known as modernism. Modernists were eager to experiment and attempted to
complicate reality and how we believe that we understand reality.
Woolf s own work reflects many of the ideals of the modernist movement. Her narration is
defined by its stream of conscience quality; rather than having a fixed narrator with a fixed
perspective, Woolf goes in and out of the minds of different characters, making unexpected
connections that are not always clear or necessarily rational. This feature of her writing allows her
to produce stories that are less driven by the plot than by the beauty of the minute details that make

Before the bridge was built, motorists would have to drive though the winding country roads

Case Problem: 1
Assume that the federal government has imposed an increase in the gasoline tax of 50 cents per
gallon, effective in three months. How might a motel franchise headquarters organization
estimate the effect on demand that this new tax would have for their member motels, which are
located in all parts of the country? How could a restaurant chain organization operating turnpike
food services make such an estimate? How could a regional airline? Increasing the gasoline tax
of 50 cents would definitely reduce the amount of gasoline brought and sold, and this can have a
huge impact for a motel franchise whether if the demand or supply is perfectly inelastic. For a
restaurant, we will be looking at raising the price of the food and also implying taxes on shipping
food cost. As for the regional airline, a slight increase of the airline ticket will be applied as a sort
of taxes (example September 11 fee). The tax revenue will rise and the increase of the tax gasoline
will also increase government tax revenues.Case Problem: 2

Summary Of The Diary Of Syrne
TITLE The poem, The Diary of Aleppo, structured as a sonata, shows the effects of the Syrian
Civil War on three people who live in Aleppo as seen by their diary entries. Aleppo is Syria s
largest city and commercial capital. However, because of the war, it is filled with destruction and
is divided between government and rebel forces. I chose the Syrian Civil Warfor this project because
throughout all my research this topic seemed the most interesting. In addition, the stanzas in this
poem are meant to be diaryentries because during war it is very difficult for people to speak
about the tragedy they are going through. However, writing in a diary allows one to fully record
their experiences without being persecuted and expresses their feelings. INTRODUCTION The
introduction showcases imagery to encapsulate the effects of war. The second line of the poem
describes movement as slow, this shows that war moves as if it will never end making victims
feel trapped in agony and distress. In addition, references to weaponry such as bombs and rifles
are displayed, meaning that war results in death and destruction. These forces led to grief and
despair as shown by the tears and screaming of citizens. EXPOSITION The exposition introduces
the three main components of the poem. Each character does not have a name but rather are labeled
as what they classify: a wife, child, and refugee. These classifications show that war strips people of
their identity, putting them

case and I m tired of seeing this agenda being pushed.
That being said, the advertisement in question was published in an Us Magazine and features a
woman playing soccer. With a look of determination set on her face as a ball hurls towards her,
she appears robust and focused to prevent the ball from going into the goal. Despite her look of
concentration, I can tell you from my years of experience in soccer that the ball is most
definitely going to graze her fingertips and go straight into the goal. Written in bold white text on
the right side of the page it says, Because I m a woman do you think I m going to crack under
pressure or conquer the field? which isn t as empowering as the tagline hidden at the

Laundry Detergent Experiment
Laundry detergent, vegetable oil, and vinegar were all used in my experiment to determine the
reaction to water and filtration. The laundry detergent had a brownish color and a small amount
of soap bubbles were present when stirred after filtration. The oil had a brown color from the dirt,
but no odor was present and the oil barely showed signs of contamination. Vinegar had a brown
murky color despite the very strong odor was not as strong as it was before filtration. There were
identical and different amounts of contamination levels as I went through experiment 3. Ammonia
had a reading of 0mg/L for all three water samples of tap water, Dasani, and Fiji bottled water.
Roughly every other reading for my experiment turned out different for at least one water sample in
relationship with the contaminants. Fiji lead in my test results for phosphate with 100ppm,
nonetheless tap water lead in all other contaminants.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oil was present on the water surface proving my oil hypothesis correct. Vinegar having the least
amount of effect on the groundwater, and showing clear visibility, was also correct despite carrying
a slight odor due to contamination. Laundry detergent had a slight soap odor with a cloudy look to
the water, resulting in backing up my hypothesis. For my second experiment the treated water
mixed with soil became clearer, thus being filtered and supporting my hypothesis. For my third
experiment, after three water sources were tested for contaminants, Dasani water had the lowest
amount of contaminants, while tap water had the highest levels of contamination, supporting my

The Political Scene Of Great Britain
Business people are like sharks, not just because we are gray and slightly oily, or because our

Hopefully, bank loan is not the only source of funding available; friends and family savings may
help a business project too. Alternative finance methods are the peer to peer lending and the
invoice financing, the equity finance and the government grants. However, any prospected
businessman has to be really careful to choose the most appropriate funding body for its
business since any source of funding you may choose has different advantages and
disadvantages. It seems that when people lack any other source of financing, they ask their
family or their close friends to contribute in order to develop their business plans. According to
Curran and Blackburn (1993), family loans account for some 15 percent of start up finance,
amongst ethic owned businesses in the UK, making it the largest source of funds after the bank
loans (Basu et al., 2013: 333). One good reason to finance your business project in cooperation
with your family or friends is the increased feeling of liability. This will definitely help you to
develop your own skills, responsibilities and a long standing character. On the other hand, family
finance can be a really dangerous option if momentous clashes suddenly appear between family
members. The family bank and family relationships will eventually be damaged or destroyed
(Babcock, 2013).
Another popular financial method is the peer to peer lending. A type of lending which matches
individual borrowers

The Pros And Cons Of Senior Relocation
When the time comes when your elderly parents are no longer able to live on their own,
broaching the topic of relocating them to an assisted living facility or smaller place can be
difficult. No child wants to make their mom or dad leave their home, but it becomes a realistic
situation as elderly parents become less able to take care of their home and themselves. After you
have this discussion with your parents, you need a senior relocation company like Caring
Transitions of South West Denver Metro in Colorado that will help move your parents and all of
their belongings in an organized and caring manner.
Once it is time to have the discussion about senior relocation in your family, here are some tips to
make it easier on everyone involved:

The British And French Colonization
There is an extensive history empirical power, repeatedly and successfully controlling another
state or group of people in order to exploit it economically. In Southeast Asia there were 5
colonial powers; the United Kingdom, France, Dutch, America, and Japan, their primary motives
for establishing colonies in the region was to get control of trade routes, to get access to the
natural resources and raw materials, and the cheap labor, as well as to establish naval and
military bases so that they could amass influence in the region. Prior to World War II, a third of the
world s area was colonized by European colonial powers between the 15th and 19th centuries, and
another third of the world s population were in colonies, dependencies, protectorates, or dominions.
In this essay, I will focus on the British and French colonization in Southeast Asia. The British
controlled Burma, most of the Malayan peninsula, and Singapore, which was a strategic port and
later became a naval base for the British. Meanwhile, the French controlled the adjoining countries
of Vietnamese, Cambodia, and Laos, collectively known as French Indochina. This period of
colonization in Southeast Asia brought many changes to the regions society, politics, and the
economy. For instance, both colonial powers introduced political changes such as introducing a
centralized form of government and changes to the justice systems in many of the colonized
countries. There were also social impacts resulting from the

Texting And Teen Literacy
Texting has become more and more common among younger aged children from about ages
twelve to seventeen. As new phones begin to develop young kids have the urge to buy them to
appear cool to their surrounding peers. In an ebook, Discourse of Text Messaging: Analysis of
SMS Communication, written by Caroline Tagg reads this, In 2010 it was estimated that
200,000 text messages were being sent every second, a three fold increase from 2007(Tagg p2).
And it has also been calculated, by Ben Parr, that, the average teenager now sends 3,339 texts
per month(Parr). This is an insane amount of texts. But little do these young teens know how this
is greatly impacting their reading, writing, and speaking skills . Texting at a young age is very
serious, is negatively affecting children s literacy, and many of the problems that come with
younger aged texting can easily be avoided. Correlation between texting and grammar Many
surveys have been done to show that there is a direct correlation between teen literacy and teen
texting. According to Megan Gannon, Live Science Contributor, a Northwestern researcher, named
Drew Cingel, did a study on the effects of using homophones and other text slang when texting
and how it affects one s literacy. To do this, Drew Cingel took a group of middle school students in
Pennsylvania, gave them each a grammar assessment test, and a asked them to answer couple
survey questions. He asked the kids to record about how many texts they send and receive,

Romanticism As A Source Of Spirituality
Classification
Romanticism is a time period in history based on a cultural revolution. It is defined differently
based on geographical location, however it overall incorporates the same common principles: (1)
imagination, (2) individuality, (3) nature as a source of spirituality, (4) looking to the past for
wisdom, and (5) seeing the common man as a hero. These common principles are what inspired
writers and artists of the time to fabricate ideas. This is how the period got named romanticism for
the term romantic, [was] long synonymous with false, fictitious and unnatural (Courthion, 1961, p.
7). Defining the movement is what overtime pulled the art community away from the previous
baroque era. By the late 1700s romance thus had come to refer broadly to any work that could be
distinguished from works principally realistic in form and subject matter (Davey, 2006). Against the
common misconception, the Romantic Movement was not considered to be strongly influenced by
love. Instead the historically been associated with narratives of adventure, romance, and myth as
opposed to realistic stories or portrayals of history, politics, or everyday life (Romanticism, 2014).
The Beginning Historians associate the Romantic Movement as coming out of Europe as [it was a]
reaction to Napoleonic era conservatism and the political norms and the rationalization of nature
associated with Enlightenment (Romanticism, 2014). The focus on romantic literature commenced

How To Go Back To School
School supplies and new clothes tend to be top priorities of parents when the back to school
season arrives. There s a sense of relief that the kids will get back into a normal routine and
parents often need a break from entertaining the kids. Although vacations are nice, they tend to
take a lot of time and effort to plan. In fact, people often state they need a vacation from their
vacation. Now is the time to start preparing children for a new school year and following are some
of the Best Ways To Get Your Kids Ready To Go Back To School.
Establish A School Routine
Parents often let their children soak up every last moment of fun when summer ends. Sadly, most
moms and dads don t establish a school routine until school actually starts, yet doing so remains
one of the best suggestions on how to get your kids ready for school in 2015. Parents need to do
this two to three weeks before classes being, however, and have children get up and leave the
home in the morning. Doing so makes it much easier on the first day of school, as the child have
already adjusted to the earlier times. Doing so helps to reduce anxiety, confusion and uncertainty in
children the first week of school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents need to act quickly to ensure their children get into the programs they desire. In addition,
parents often need to provide certain documents for these programs, and a guide to family health
becomes essential at this time. Waiting until the last minute leads to unnecessary stress for all. By
making these arrangements early on, parents often find it is easier to obtain any needed supplies
for the program, such as a uniform for a program involving karate or art supplies for a drawing
program.

Essay on A P by John Updike
A P
John Updike, one of the most forward thinking and socially provocative writers of the 50s and
60s, is known for his incisive presentation of the quandaries of contemporary personal and social
life. (Lawn 529) Updike graduated from Harvard University and wrote for one of the more cutting
edge publications like The New Yorkerboth are notoriously ahead of their time and harbor
controversial ideas. In his short story A P , Updike reveals a young man named Sammy in a society
on the brink of a social revolution one in which a group of girls and an innocent cashier will
unknowingly lead. Updike, through symbolism and syntax, shows how the girls are leading the
revolution, how Sammy is feeling the wrath of this revolution, and ... Show more content on

The girls, despite their obvious fashion faux pas, carry themselves with a certain confidence and
individuality that is rare in this society. Updike has Sammy refer to the other customers as sheep,
pigs, house slaves, and even as having a fuselage revealing how empty these citizens are. The
references to sheep are clear symbols for the conformity of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The
trend (or revolution) towards non conformity is quickly approaching as the three girls are leaders of
this new movement.
Their wealth allows them to most likely live within a large city where the world moves much
faster than in the rural regions and even in the suburbs. Whereas cities are always advancing in
all aspects, the small communities, much like the one Sammy lives in, tend to hold onto tradition
and more conservative values. The normal behavior for beach goers in this small town is, as
Updike so blatantly puts it, the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they
get out of the car into the street. (Lawn 401) The three girls are part of a new generation, one that
is changing styles of fashion and lifestyle faster than ever before.
Sammy at first is an innocent onlooker to this fiasco. Sammy devotes much more descriptive
quality to the girls than to anyone or anything else surrounding him. In describing Queenie s
bathing suit he says, the straps were down.

Court Operations At The Plantation Key Government Center
I observed court operations at the Plantation Key Government Center in Tavernier, Florida twice:
on October 7th and November 4th. I observed Chief Circuit Judge Carlos Garcia in courtroom A.
The courthouse is located in the 16th Judicial Circuit of Florida and it s a state trial court with
general jurisdiction. The first visit was cut short, in part because it was a lighter criminal day
than planned, but also I was flabbergasted by the lack of professionalism that was present in this
courtroom. I m not sure if it s a court in Paradise problem, or something that is observed at other
courtrooms, however, I m disappointed in what I saw. Lack of professionalism was evident
during both visits from the actors and their actions in the courtroom. On October 7th I was
present at the courthouse from 8: 45 am 10: 45 am. During that initial visit, I was very nervous;
since it is a small courthouse I stood out like a sore thumb. I was over dressed in comparison to
the other actors that were present, even though I was wearing slacks, an FIU Honor s Polo, and
flats. The Assistant State Attorney was Demetrios Efstratiou who was at least professionally
dressed. There was Public Defenders present, but I did not catch their names, nor could I locate
them on the Internet. Both gentlemen were dressed professionally as well. The only actor during
this visit that was dressed unprofessionally was a private defense attorney Jessica Reilly, who is a
partner at one of the bigger firms in Key

The Zodiac Killer Case Revisited
The Zodiac Killer Case Revisited
I.List of crimes
The horrors in California began on Friday, December 20, 1968 in the city of Vallejo when
sixteen year old Betty Lou Jensen and seventeen year old David Faraday were killed while out
on a date. At the time, according to Haugen (2011), they had driven to a remote lover s lane on
Lake Herman Road. It was while they were there that a vehicle stopped nearby and the driver got
out, shot out the rear passenger window of David Faraday s station wagon, and then shot the left
rear tire. The man shot Faraday behind the left ear, while Betty Lou Jensen was running for the
road. Unfortunately, she was unable to escape and was shot in the back five times by the assailant
before he fled the scene.
July 4, 1969 when Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau were followed by an unknown vehicle,
they pulled into a parking lot overlooking Blue Rock Springs Golf Course. Ferrin parked, turned
off the headlights, and she and Mageau, listened to the radio. According to Haugen, a car stopped
near them, paused for a while, then left, going towards Vallejo. About five minutes later, the
vehicle came back and parked behind Ferrin s Corvair. Leaving the headlights on, a man carrying
a flashlight got out of the car and approached Ferrin s vehicle. Thinking it was a law enforcement
officer, Mageau got out his identification, but the man pulled a gun and shot both Mageau and
Ferrin several times. The victims were badly injured but Mageau was able to give a

  • 2. Siddhartha Journey Siddhartha was determined to never go back to his life of wealth. Siddhartha approached the same river where he met the ferryman years before. He saw the water as mirroring the emptiness within him. About to slip into the water, the word Om emanated from his soul. Siddhartha realized that destroying his body would not end his suffering. He fell asleep. Siddharthawoke up with a sense of rebirth and repeats Om to himself. Then Siddhartha noticed Govinda but Govinda had not recognized him. Govinda left to get back to being a monk. Siddhartha was completely absorbed by the tranquil presence of the ferryman, as earlier he had been by that of Gotama Buddha. Siddhartha saw his life s path reflected in the flow of the river. In our world today people are ignorant. Humans use their imagination too much and their brain too little. Also, people don t do anything to solve their problems because we think nothing could go wrong, we expect others do fix everything. That is where we re wrong. Today lots of people are saying the world won t reach a carrying capacity, but I disagree. I think the world will reach its carrying capacity before 2100. The rates of people who don t get enough to eat is skyrocketing. People are becoming homeless because of competition on jobs and much more. Everything is getting more expensive and some people can t afford what they need. The website worldhunger.org tells us about how there is enough food on this earth for everyone to get a good meal. So what s stopping us? Greediness and expensiveness. Today we have one big problem; Natural Disasters. Everything else is kind of preventable and fixable, but not Natural Disasters, they are indomitable and inevitable. We have: Tornadoes, Tsunamis, Volcano Eruptions, Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Monsoons and much more. Global Warming has affected us too. Lots of things effect on us, but it s not the effect it has, but how it affects our ability to get over it. When a big tornado hits and kills a lot of people, what do we do? We let it get a hold on us; fear takes over and we scramble for our only chance hope. We hide. So after a big storm happens and lots of people are killed we still don t do the big thing. We don t help. Some people like the Red Cross and other Organizations, help the people in need, but a lot of people still stay in their cushy lives. They don t help them. • 5. Pecola Breedlove Racism become completely immersed in misery and go insane. This was the fate of Pecola Breedlove. For Pecola, constant abuse by society and her family had made her so utterly alone. Her brother had run away from home by encouragement from his mother, who had rejected the family and gone to work for a white family. By working for the white family, she got everything that she wanted and was needed. In doing so, she rejected the needs of her family entirely, not even her own daughter could call her mother instead she was forced to call her Mrs. Breedlove , a symbol of the unfamiliarity of the connection that should be filled with love, but was only filled with hatred and rejection. This increased when Pecola was raped by her father, followed by her mother beating her until the baby died. This final blow, the hopelessness of rejection caused by both the internal and external racism, was what drove Pecola insane, and would drive any person to madness, because the pain that this racism caused is the pain of being alone, a pain which no human can bear. The abuse from racism is never forgotten, it leaves a scar; the pain may recede after time, but the scar remains. Pecola Breedlove s story should serve as a reminder of what racism can do to a... Spanning over the course of four years, World War I, due to new military technologies and the horrors of trench warfare, saw unprecedented levels of carnage and destruction. Soldiers in the trenches were surrounded by inhumanity and depravity ; they could not escape the overwhelming boredom, the desire to kill, and the constant threat of disease and shellfire (Slade 1583). This concept is clearly captured within the novel when Stephen states This is not a war, this is an exploration of how far men can be degraded (Faulks 145). During battle, men have to let go of what they once believed to be right and just in order to survive. Notably, this issue presents itself when the enemy evolves from a conceptual being into a human, which causes soldiers to realize that they are killing men who are no different from them. In order to such avoid moral conflicts, soldiers had to detach themselves from the harsh realities of the war. For instance, Jack, unlike Weir and Brennan, forces himself to disconnect from his emotions in order to avoid shell shock. Although he destroys feelings toward his fellow soldiers and the enemy, when faced with the prospect of his own death, Jack cannot bury his emotions: The indifference he had cultivated, however, was to the extermination of the enemy, his colleagues, and his friends; he was not [...] indifferent to the prospect of his own death (Faulks 127). Faulks reveal of Jack s desire to preserve his own life demonstrates the moral irregularities soldiers faced during the war. • 18. The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald Essay The Great Gatsby (2013), directed by Baz Luhrmann, is a contemporary construct of the original novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The essence of this film is to portray the American Dream as understood in the 1920 s. The film (as well as the novel) contains many themes that correlate to the depiction of the story. The main notable themes that are embodied throughout the motion picture are social class, love, wealth, isolation, and hope. Nick Carraway, whom the film is focalized, communicates the elements of the setting and main characters. He portrays this through his personal experience as an outsider to the wealthy world of the 1920 s, in which this motion picture takes place. Nick Carraway is a young man who is seeking the achievement of the American Dream . The three images that are included depict the main themes of the story as well as illustrate considerable meaning through cinematography. The movie focuses on Jay Gatsbys relationship with Daisy, his wealth, and himself. In image one, the movie s themes of hope, isolation, and love are represented. Gatsby is standing at the end of his dock in front of his home looking out to the green light that is shinning from across the water. The green light is outside of Daisy s property. Hope is portrayed through the reaching out of Gatsby s hand. He is trying to grasp what is on the other side of the water even though he is already aware that his goal is too far away from where he is standing. The theme of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will discuss the Holocaust; why it took place, what happened during, and the effects. The Holocaust and a war took place because of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party. They believed the Jewish people and other groups were inferior to the Germans and a threat to society (History.com). The Nazis thought of them as a race, and not a religious group (Berenbaum). They also blamed the Jewish for the country s defeat in World War Iin 1918. Stone Thrower Wales ( Stw ) Defect 3.0Results and discussion Stone Thrower Wales (STW) defect also referred as pentagon heptagon heptagon pentagon (5 7 7 5) defect is formed by rotating a C C bond by ПЂ/2, which transforms 4 hexagons into 2 pentagons and 2 heptagons as illustrated in Fig.1. Due to hexagonal and symmetric geometry of graphene system, only two types of STW defects are possible, STW1 and STW2 defects that are explained with the help of Fig.1. One of the main feature of graphene with STW defects is that it retains the same number of atoms as the pristine graphene, and also forms without creating any dangling bonds. Fig.1 STW defects are created by ПЂ/2 rotation of C C bond about the midpoint. (a) Highlighted C C bond rotates by ПЂ/2 to form STW1 defect. (b) Highlighted C C bond rotates by ПЂ/2 to form STW2 defect. First set of simulations were performed with pristine graphene sheet and single STW (STW1 or STW2) defect lying in pristine graphene sheet along the armchair and zigzag directions. Stress strain response obtained with STW1 and STW2 defects with respect to tensile loading directions are plotted in Fig.2. The calculated values of Young s modulus of graphene with armchair and zigzag directions are 0.875TPa and 0.825TPa respectively. These values are in good agreement with the existing results [41]. Comparing Fig. 2b with Fig. 2c, it can be observed that the strength of STW1 defective graphene in the zigzag direction (89.2GPa) is higher than that in the armchair direction (13.5GPa). ... What Marielle did was define some of the words she felt were strong Mercy, Pity, Love and Peace. She then reread the poem and was asked to reinterpret it. After she identified key words, she felt that this poem is trying to reinforce the importance of being kind to others and treating them as God would. Mercy, Pity Peace and Love are being reinforced as necessary human qualities. She looked up the literal meanings of the key words, wrote them down, and added comments next to the definitions. After defining and commenting on these key words, her opinion differed. I am able now to see the correlation between the title the Divine Image and the song itself. The divine image is expressed in its human form through the actions and feelings of Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. The Divine Image is referring to God, humans can be Godlike by performing these four feelings and actions. She now felt that humans were considered Divine only if they use Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. In the beginning, though, she felt that one had to treat others with the same respect like God and that the characteristics were simply important for humans. Examples Of Imagination In Kubla Khan According to Eagleton imaginative is what the mind can create using its originality and exceptionality, it is something that has not occurred in real life, or cannot be claimed as something factually true. It is conceived in the minds of individuals, but not projected into real life. He uses terms like did not exist literary untrue , inventive to further state his opinion on what imaginative is. Imaginative for the Romantics had three main functions; the capability to transcend reality, to recreate memory, and to notify the creation of art. Coleridge s Kubla Khan is a bright example of the transforming power imagination has. The poet s usage of diction and allegories transform this poem into a symbol for imagination. It is said that it was written after Coleridge s encounter with the sublime while still being under the effect of opium, and when he went to record it, he was disrupted by a visitor and the remaining of the poem was lost even to him. Summary Of The Diary Of Syrne TITLE The poem, The Diary of Aleppo, structured as a sonata, shows the effects of the Syrian Civil War on three people who live in Aleppo as seen by their diary entries. Aleppo is Syria s largest city and commercial capital. However, because of the war, it is filled with destruction and is divided between government and rebel forces. I chose the Syrian Civil Warfor this project because throughout all my research this topic seemed the most interesting. In addition, the stanzas in this poem are meant to be diaryentries because during war it is very difficult for people to speak about the tragedy they are going through. However, writing in a diary allows one to fully record their experiences without being persecuted and expresses their feelings. INTRODUCTION The introduction showcases imagery to encapsulate the effects of war. The second line of the poem describes movement as slow, this shows that war moves as if it will never end making victims feel trapped in agony and distress. In addition, references to weaponry such as bombs and rifles are displayed, meaning that war results in death and destruction. These forces led to grief and despair as shown by the tears and screaming of citizens. EXPOSITION The exposition introduces the three main components of the poem. On May 24, 1844 Samuel tapped his first message which read What hath God wrought! . Almost as soon as Morse received his patent for the telegraph in 1847, he was hit with litigious claims from partners and rival inventors. The legal battles culminated in the U.S. Supreme Court decision O Rielly v.s. Morse in 1854, that stated Morse had been the first to develop a workable telegraph. • 38. Persuasive Essay On Women It s no secret that worldwide women have unreasonably high expectations set for them. Yet it seems as though for a few days of every month, that bar is lowered and we as women are allowed to kick our feet up, complain and do practically nothing but binge eat chocolate without judgement thanks to our on and off again friend, Mother Nature. Yes, that s right we ve become so desperate to escape from the standards set by us from society that our periods have become our only excuse to relax and not have everything together. However, recent advertising from the feminine hygiene company Always Infinity is swiftly taking away our much needed break by implying women shouldn t be taken less seriously just because of their crimson waves. Quite frankly, this isn t the case and I m tired of seeing this agenda being pushed. That being said, the advertisement in question was published in an Us Magazine and features a woman playing soccer. With a look of determination set on her face as a ball hurls towards her, she appears robust and focused to prevent the ball from going into the goal. Despite her look of concentration, I can tell you from my years of experience in soccer that the ball is most definitely going to graze her fingertips and go straight into the goal. Written in bold white text on the right side of the page it says, Because I m a woman do you think I m going to crack under pressure or conquer the field? which isn t as empowering as the tagline hidden at the ... The laundry detergent had a brownish color and a small amount of soap bubbles were present when stirred after filtration. The oil had a brown color from the dirt, but no odor was present and the oil barely showed signs of contamination. Vinegar had a brown murky color despite the very strong odor was not as strong as it was before filtration. There were identical and different amounts of contamination levels as I went through experiment 3. Ammonia had a reading of 0mg/L for all three water samples of tap water, Dasani, and Fiji bottled water. Roughly every other reading for my experiment turned out different for at least one water sample in relationship with the contaminants. Fiji lead in my test results for phosphate with 100ppm, nonetheless tap water lead in all other contaminants.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hopefully, bank loan is not the only source of funding available; friends and family savings may help a business project too. Alternative finance methods are the peer to peer lending and the invoice financing, the equity finance and the government grants. However, any prospected businessman has to be really careful to choose the most appropriate funding body for its business since any source of funding you may choose has different advantages and disadvantages. It seems that when people lack any other source of financing, they ask their family or their close friends to contribute in order to develop their business plans. According to Curran and Blackburn (1993), family loans account for some 15 percent of start up finance, amongst ethic owned businesses in the UK, making it the largest source of funds after the bank loans (Basu et al., 2013: 333). One good reason to finance your business project in cooperation with your family or friends is the increased feeling of liability. This will definitely help you to develop your own skills, responsibilities and a long standing character. On the other hand, family finance can be a really dangerous option if momentous clashes suddenly appear between family members. The family bank and family relationships will eventually be damaged or destroyed (Babcock, 2013). Another popular financial method is the peer to peer lending. • 42. The British And French Colonization There is an extensive history empirical power, repeatedly and successfully controlling another state or group of people in order to exploit it economically. In Southeast Asia there were 5 colonial powers; the United Kingdom, France, Dutch, America, and Japan, their primary motives for establishing colonies in the region was to get control of trade routes, to get access to the natural resources and raw materials, and the cheap labor, as well as to establish naval and military bases so that they could amass influence in the region. Prior to World War II, a third of the world s area was colonized by European colonial powers between the 15th and 19th centuries, and another third of the world s population were in colonies, dependencies, protectorates, or dominions. In this essay, I will focus on the British and French colonization in Southeast Asia. The British controlled Burma, most of the Malayan peninsula, and Singapore, which was a strategic port and later became a naval base for the British. Meanwhile, the French controlled the adjoining countries of Vietnamese, Cambodia, and Laos, collectively known as French Indochina. This period of colonization in Southeast Asia brought many changes to the regions society, politics, and the economy. For instance, both colonial powers introduced political changes such as introducing a centralized form of government and changes to the justice systems in many of the colonized countries. There were also social impacts resulting from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Texting And Teen Literacy Texting has become more and more common among younger aged children from about ages twelve to seventeen. As new phones begin to develop young kids have the urge to buy them to appear cool to their surrounding peers. In an ebook, Discourse of Text Messaging: Analysis of SMS Communication, written by Caroline Tagg reads this, In 2010 it was estimated that 200,000 text messages were being sent every second, a three fold increase from 2007(Tagg p2). And it has also been calculated, by Ben Parr, that, the average teenager now sends 3,339 texts per month(Parr). This is an insane amount of texts. But little do these young teens know how this is greatly impacting their reading, writing, and speaking skills . Texting at a young age is very serious, is negatively affecting children s literacy, and many of the problems that come with younger aged texting can easily be avoided. Correlation between texting and grammar Many surveys have been done to show that there is a direct correlation between teen literacy and teen texting. According to Megan Gannon, Live Science Contributor, a Northwestern researcher, named Drew Cingel, did a study on the effects of using homophones and other text slang when texting and how it affects one s literacy. To do this, Drew Cingel took a group of middle school students in Pennsylvania, gave them each a grammar assessment test, and a asked them to answer couple survey questions. • 44. Romanticism As A Source Of Spirituality Classification Romanticism is a time period in history based on a cultural revolution. It is defined differently based on geographical location, however it overall incorporates the same common principles: (1) imagination, (2) individuality, (3) nature as a source of spirituality, (4) looking to the past for wisdom, and (5) seeing the common man as a hero. These common principles are what inspired writers and artists of the time to fabricate ideas. This is how the period got named romanticism for the term romantic, [was] long synonymous with false, fictitious and unnatural (Courthion, 1961, p. 7). Defining the movement is what overtime pulled the art community away from the previous baroque era. By the late 1700s romance thus had come to refer broadly to any work that could be distinguished from works principally realistic in form and subject matter (Davey, 2006). Against the common misconception, the Romantic Movement was not considered to be strongly influenced by love. Instead the historically been associated with narratives of adventure, romance, and myth as opposed to realistic stories or portrayals of history, politics, or everyday life (Romanticism, 2014). The Beginning Historians associate the Romantic Movement as coming out of Europe as [it was a] reaction to Napoleonic era conservatism and the political norms and the rationalization of nature associated with Enlightenment (Romanticism, 2014). (Lawn 529) Updike graduated from Harvard University and wrote for one of the more cutting edge publications like The New Yorkerboth are notoriously ahead of their time and harbor controversial ideas. In his short story A P , Updike reveals a young man named Sammy in a society on the brink of a social revolution one in which a group of girls and an innocent cashier will unknowingly lead. The girls, despite their obvious fashion faux pas, carry themselves with a certain confidence and individuality that is rare in this society. Updike has Sammy refer to the other customers as sheep, pigs, house slaves, and even as having a fuselage revealing how empty these citizens are. The references to sheep are clear symbols for the conformity of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The trend (or revolution) towards non conformity is quickly approaching as the three girls are leaders of this new movement. Their wealth allows them to most likely live within a large city where the world moves much faster than in the rural regions and even in the suburbs. Whereas cities are always advancing in all aspects, the small communities, much like the one Sammy lives in, tend to hold onto tradition and more conservative values. The normal behavior for beach goers in this small town is, as Updike so blatantly puts it, the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they get out of the car into the street. (Lawn 401) The three girls are part of a new generation, one that is changing styles of fashion and lifestyle faster than ever before. Sammy at first is an innocent onlooker to this fiasco. • 47. Court Operations At The Plantation Key Government Center I observed court operations at the Plantation Key Government Center in Tavernier, Florida twice: on October 7th and November 4th. I observed Chief Circuit Judge Carlos Garcia in courtroom A. The courthouse is located in the 16th Judicial Circuit of Florida and it s a state trial court with general jurisdiction. The first visit was cut short, in part because it was a lighter criminal day than planned, but also I was flabbergasted by the lack of professionalism that was present in this courtroom. I m not sure if it s a court in Paradise problem, or something that is observed at other courtrooms, however, I m disappointed in what I saw. Lack of professionalism was evident during both visits from the actors and their actions in the courtroom. On October 7th I was present at the courthouse from 8: 45 am 10: 45 am. During that initial visit, I was very nervous; since it is a small courthouse I stood out like a sore thumb. I was over dressed in comparison to the other actors that were present, even though I was wearing slacks, an FIU Honor s Polo, and flats. The Assistant State Attorney was Demetrios Efstratiou who was at least professionally dressed. There was Public Defenders present, but I did not catch their names, nor could I locate them on the Internet. Both gentlemen were dressed professionally as well. • 48. The Zodiac Killer Case Revisited The Zodiac Killer Case Revisited I.List of crimes The horrors in California began on Friday, December 20, 1968 in the city of Vallejo when sixteen year old Betty Lou Jensen and seventeen year old David Faraday were killed while out on a date. At the time, according to Haugen (2011), they had driven to a remote lover s lane on Lake Herman Road. It was while they were there that a vehicle stopped nearby and the driver got out, shot out the rear passenger window of David Faraday s station wagon, and then shot the left rear tire. The man shot Faraday behind the left ear, while Betty Lou Jensen was running for the road. Unfortunately, she was unable to escape and was shot in the back five times by the assailant before he fled the scene. July 4, 1969 when Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau were followed by an unknown vehicle, they pulled into a parking lot overlooking Blue Rock Springs Golf Course. Ferrin parked, turned off the headlights, and she and Mageau, listened to the radio. According to Haugen, a car stopped near them, paused for a while, then left, going towards Vallejo. About five minutes later, the vehicle came back and parked behind Ferrin s Corvair. Leaving the headlights on, a man carrying a flashlight got out of the car and approached Ferrin s vehicle. Thinking it was a law enforcement officer, Mageau got out his identification, but the man pulled a gun and shot both Mageau and Ferrin several times.
