The Sound Of Music
The choice by Stephanie S. Tolan to have the show put on by the main family in Surviving the
Applewhites be The Sound of Music is an important one. The musical is a lot like the book, both
having the key message of finding and chasing your dreams. In the beginning of The Sound of
Music, Captain Von Trapp is cold and distant, but thanks to the efforts of his children and Maria, he
realizes how important his familyis and how much he had been mistreating them. He then
rediscovers his ability to sing before working together with them to escape Austria. This is very
similar to the way Jake s attitude is changed by the Applewhites disciplinary efforts (or lack
thereof) before his talent for singing is realized and he must work with them to put

Exploring The Anglo-Saxon Hero
What is a hero? Perhaps it should be rephrased: who is a hero? Of course, it now becomes easy to
answer we can say Odysseus, as he didn t just assist in the victory at Troy, but fought the gods
with his longing for his home; or Beowulf, who fought of the terrible monsters in Hrothgar s
kingdom as well as his own; or Byrhtnoth, who died while defending the land he loved. Clearly, it
is easy to list off the heroes in these ancient poems. However, why is this so, why can we so easily
identify heroes without consciously recognizing the clues that lead us to those conclusions? While
this question may remain unanswerable without understanding psychology, it is still possible to
understand what makes a hero tick his set of features... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
143). By telling Wiglaf to bring the treasure to him, Beowulf is showing the audience that despite
his imminent departure from the mortal world, he still possesses a greed for treasure. While some
argue that Beowulf is merely trying to understand the fate of his kingdom based on its newfound
wealth, the desire for treasure is nonetheless childish telltale signs of selfish attributes in Beowulf s
character. The story of the Volsung family contains the tale of Sigmund in The Saga of the
Volsungs. Sigmund is also a mythological character, due to his immediate relation to the mythical
Volsung family, just like Beowulf. His actions, such as becoming a wolf (just like Beowulf) with
his incestuous son Sinfjotli in the forest, embarking on an adventure to fight hunters, are clearly
impossible without the mythological or legendary setting. For this reason, we classify Sigmund as
being mythological, since he could not have been real, at least based this description.
Similar to Beowulf, audiences can observe crucial, dark characteristics of Sigmund that distinguish
him. His legendary feats are just that legendary. However, they also possess negative qualities. In
the previous example of how Sigmund and Sinfjotli put the skins on (The Saga of the Volsungs, p.
44), Sigmund does not just run about the forest happily, he and Sinfjotli terrorize hunters by
competing to kill more

Russi Mody As an outstanding man manager in his heyday with a hands on style which earned him

He was appointed as Tisco s Managing Director in 1974 and became the chairman in 1984.
He displayed a singular lack of finesse during his last few years with Tatas.
He was to officially retire on May 21 1993, but was sacked on April 19, 1993. Had he behaved with

Mody had accused Ratan Tata (Tisco s then deputy chairman) and Jamshed. J. Irani (its managing

He aslo threatened to launch a campaign to mobilize support for himself from shareholders and

Clubs and Non Profit Organizations
Introduction What s the deal? Clubs are very common establishments in our society. Firstly, before
I further explain all the required information, we have to understand that a club operates
differently as compared to a normal business/enterprise. The most imperative difference between a
business and this sports club is that a business is established with the aim of generating profit
which the owner is entitled to because the owner is the person who provides the start up capital.
The low down A sports club on the other hand, it is established to provide facilities to the members

taken to the ACCUMULATED FUND account and if not, they will entered into the INCOME

specific corner where refreshments and snacks are sold for the convenience of its members.
This is not the main activity of the club, yet, is a small trading activity that generates funds for
the club. Western Cape Soccer Club prepares a Refreshment Trading Account to account for the
profit or loss arising from such an activity. The money that the club receives from this activity
will serve as a portion of the income. When the physical refreshments are bought, this is
recorded in the REFRESHMENTS ACCOUNT which is an asset account. If there are
refreshments left over at the end of the financial period, these have to be recorded in the account
called REFRESHMENTS ON HAND and these will be used in the next financial period.
Refreshments account will increase on the Debit side and if the refreshments are sold, the
account decreases on the Credit side (as it is an asset account). The profit made will be accounted
for with a contra account PROFIT ON SALE OF REFRESHMENTS. I have illustrated how

Point Of Use Of Language In My Last Duchess By Robert...
Blank Verse and Other Verse Forms : Browning was a great metrical artist. He experimented with
number of stanza forms and rhyme schemes. Browning has written My Last Duchess in heroic
couplets but the sense runs so naturally from the one line to the other that the reader hardly
remains conscious of the rhyme. The couplets take the reader along with the virtue of their
speed. It is, therefore, that from the point of view of language, My Last Duchess is on of the most
lovable poems of Browning. One feels like reading the following lines of the poem, over and over

The Depiction Of A Hero In Captain America
It s another beautiful day with people weaving in and out of buildings getting to their destination
following the status quo.The normal everyday routine when all of a sudden something goes south
extremely quickly.A villain appears and starts terrorizing the town, and it seems that no one can
save the citizens. Then bursting into action a Hero bursts onto the scene and saves the day, and
ultimately the hero ends up winning. The No matter who the hero may be all hero movies follow
the same theme. What really changes is the way that said hero is built up through the
cinematography of the movie. That is where the true differences can be made, but the depiction of
one hero in particular remains constant. That hero being Captain America. The first box office
depiction of Captain America took place in 1990 and evolved to what we know and have seen in

Summary Of Dr. Heidegger s Experiment By Nathaniel Hawthorne
People like to reflect on the past. Some enjoy it, and take pleasure in what they had
accomplished and done. Others look back in misery, and wish they could change it. However, in
both cases, some may long for it to come back. This may be because they want to be there again
where it was perfect in their eyes, or to change it, because their past is full of regret. One of these
instances is the four old friends from the short story Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel
Hawthorne. The four, Mr. Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherly,
all had terrible pasts, and had extreme desire to go back in time to fix it, which they almost did.
The four want to change their past, and this brings about the theme of it is impossible to change
it. When the four enter the Doctor s house, they are introduced to the reader as, They were all
melancholy old creatures, who had been unfortunate in life, and whose greatest misfortune it was
that they were not long ago in their graves. Through this quote Hawthorne is pointing out they
were all failures in life. They all wished they were dead, their lives so wasted and dreary. This
shows their longing to change their past. They had been unfortunate in life, and the fact they
wanted to take the elixir to be young again shows they want to fix that. The narrator also points out,

change their past, the theme could get across that you cannot change it. Hawthorne used the
failures and longing of his characters to get across a deeper message, and without that longing of
the characters his point may have not gotten so clearly

Argumentative Essay On Aliens
On February 24, 1942 shortly after the United States entered the second world war, 100,000
people watched as an unknown craft invaded the skies of Los Angeles. Anti aircraft guns went
into war against unidentified aircraft within the Los Angeles area. This research paper is about
aliens, it will analyze: their existence, purpose, and power. Searchlights scanned the skies and anti
aircraft guns protecting the vital aircraft and ship building factories went into action. In the next
few hours they would fire over 1,400 shells at an unidentified, slow moving object in the sky over
Los Angeles that looked like a blimp, or a balloon (Bibliotecapleyades.net). This demonstrates a
time period in American history where the existence of aliens were tested. Sometimes, humans don
t believe in anything until they see it. Genuinely, when this occurred, I believe that the people were
outraged when this UFO appeared in the sky. The elongated skulls that were found are not only
larger in terms of cranial capacity than modern humans, but the eye sockets are much bigger, jaw is
much larger, and the actual bone material is sometimes 60% heavier than a modern human being.

Biblical Allusions In Cormac Mccarthy s All The Pretty Horses
Countless novels contain allusions to outside references in order to convey a deeper meaning and
understanding of a topic or idea. Allusions enhance the experience for the reader, allowing him to
delve into the authors mind and fully understand the intended message. In All the Pretty, Cormac
McCarthy subtly laces the plot with biblical references to enhance the plot and give the reader a
more meaningful understanding of the novel s events.
A prominent biblical reference in All the Pretty Horses is Don Hector, the betrayer. When the
reader first meets Don Hector, he seems a nice enough man. He gives John Grady and Rawlins
jobs on the ranch, compliments John Grady on his knowledge of horses, and allows him to tame
the horses of his choice; he becomes almost like a friend to John Grady. Upon hearing of John ...

A central idea is life which is often represented as blood. Early in the book, John Grady describes
his love for horses in a simple sentence, What he loved in horses was what he loved in men, the
blood and the heat of the blood that ran them. (McCarthy 7). In the bible, blood is a major idea. At
the last supper, Jesus gives his blood in a cup to all of his disciples. It represents life, spirit, and
soul. John Grady s connection to the horses is representative of this. The blood and sweat he
shares with Redbo on his journey, the connection he feels with his horse. John Grady is shown
to be the Jesus figure in the novel through the blood allusion. He is firmly devoted to others,
selflessly helping the people and animals around him over himself. John is also firmly devoted to
his beliefs in god. When their journey gets tough, Rawlins asks him about his faith, You think
God looks out for people? said Rawlins. Yeah. I guess he does. You? (McCarthy 92). John Grady
stays loyal to his faith, in a similar way to Jesus in the Gospels of Matthew and

According to critics, the Electoral College is a faulty system that should be abolished and
replaced by direct election. Supporters of the Electoral College system make convincing
arguments that it is the best system to decide the Presidential election in a complex society such as
the United States. Many scholars place the Electoral College into a historical context by discussing
its evolution and sustenance throughout the history of the United States. This paper will discuss
the main arguments made by supporters of the Electoral College System. I will first provide a

However, a compromise was made by the delegates to have electors chosen by the various state
legislatures elect the President. This is the decision that made The Constitution. Critics of the
Electoral College often make three main arguments. The first argument states that the Electoral
College does not accurately represent the will of the people. The Electoral College s failure to
capture the will of the people derives from the winner take all system where the Presidential
candidates compete to win the most popular votes and whoever wins in that state, wins all the
electoral votes of that state. With this, it becomes difficult if not impossible for third party or
independent parties to make a showing in the Electoral College. Subsequently, the argument states
that the Electoral College supports a two party system and discourages third party and independent
candidates, which in turn restricts the choices available to the electorate. The second argument is
the possible role of the Electoral College in depressing the voter turnout. Since each State is entitled
to the same number of electoral votes regardless of its voter turnout, there is no incentive in the
States to encourage voter participation and, finally the third argument is based on the alleged
unfairness in the process by which the votes are distributed among the

Internal Devaluation And Its Effects On The Economy
Furthermore, the Fund also recognized that after nearly four years of internal devaluation, the
economic strategy had not succeeded. The idea of an internal devaluation is that if you create
enough mass unemployment and push wages down far enough, the economy can become more
competitive due to lower labor costs. This allows exports to grow, and import competing industries
to also do better, improving the trade balance. Since exports add to economic growth and
employment, and reduced imports do the same, the economy can recover in this scenario due to
increasing net exports (exports minus imports). Normally this could be attempted through a
devaluation of the currency. But the troika has only recently shown any intention of trying to push
the euros value down against external trading partners; and of course since it is a common
currency, the more depressed economies within the currency union can t devalue against the others
(e.g. Spain versus Germany). This leaves internal devaluation as the remaining hope for recovery
for countries such as Spain, Greece, and Portugal. In other words, despite the negative impact of
the fiscal austerity, the theory is that internal devaluation based on lower labor costs can drive
recovery based on the growth of net exports.
But it took years to reach this point despite crushing levels of unemployment and mandated
reductions in the social wage (e.g., pensions and health care). The Fund finds that from 2008 2012,

Not to far along, a party is planned for Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested. A few native Indians are
invited. The party turns out to be a flop. The British and the natives separate themselves from each
other and nobody communicates to one another. Similar to the small dances we use to have as
kids. The girls would sit on one side of the room and the boys on the other and no one with enough
courage to ask the opposite sex to dance.
Shortly after this disastrous party, Dr. Fielding, principal of the College, invites the ladies to his
house for tea. Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested insist Dr. Aziz and Professor Godbole attend. The
small intimate party is successful. Both cultures came together. It brought joy to Dr. Aziz that he
was able to find unity with the British. With the positive results of this first encounter of the two
different cultures, Dr. Aziz believed that only more good things could come of the integration. He

The research that I have done is about a space station with a design based off of the Saturn V
rocket that I have made. During this paper i will talk about its background, the parts, how it

3 stages in its launch. The first stage carries around 203,400 gallons (770,000 liters) of kerosene
fuel and 318,000 gallons (1.2 million liters) of liquid oxygen needed for combustion. At liftoff the

The Saturn V rockets used for the Apollo missions had three stages. Each stage would burn its
engines until it was out of fuel and would then separate from the rocket. The engines on the next
stage would fire, and the rocket would continue into space. The first stage had the most powerful
engines, since it had the challenging task of lifting the fully fueled rocket off the ground. The
first stage lifted the rocket to an altitude of about 68 kilometers or 42 miles. The second stage
carried it from there almost into orbit. The third stage placed the Apollo spacecraft into Earth
orbit and pushed it toward the moon. The first two stages fell into the ocean after separation.
The third stage either stayed in space or hit the moon. Now we will talk about how fast the
Saturn V rocket can go. In order for the Saturn V rocket to break free of the Earth s gravitational
pull, it will need to travel approximately 7 miles per second. The fastest speed obtained by a

Medical Malpratices in Surgery
Medical malpractice cases increases when a patient is harmed or injured by a doctor or nurse or
other medical professional who fails to provide proper and better health care treatment. Fortunately,
doctors, nurses, and hospitals make mistakes in a small number of cases. But within that small
minority of cases, certain types of errors crop up more often than others.
Surgical errors can be medical malpractice if the surgeon s performance falls below the accepted
standard of care for a reasonably competent surgeon under similar circumstances, and the patient is
injured as a result. Although some surgical errors are the result of a physician s actual incompetence,
most result from poor planning before surgery or failure to properly communicate with the patient
or his/her family about the possible risks associated with a procedure. During surgery, doctor,
nurses and medical provider often face situations where quick and fast decisions need to be made.
When mistakes occur during surgery, the patient on the operating table can suffer severe and
weaken injuries.
Medical mistakes during surgery can occur when a doctor, nurse or hospital staffs fail to give their
full attention to the patient they are operating on. This can result in the wrong procedure being
performed, medical supplies used during the surgery being left inside of the patient, or a failure to
promptly and properly react when unanticipated problems arise. In many cases, problems during
surgery are the direct result

Saddam s Killing Fields Essay
Film Analysis
Saddam s Killing Fields
Shaikha AlSuwaidi 50126
Saddam s Killing Fields is a documentary filmed in 1993 by Michael Wood. The film reveals
Saddam s destruction and crimes during his regime in the 1990s, which includes the 1991
uprisings in Iraq. After the end of the gulf war and the failed uprising against Saddam Hussein,
thousands of Marsh Arabs were killed resulting in a human tragedy. Although the Shi a Muslims
make up most of Iraq s population, they were regularly persecuted. It is believed that President

What Dreams Are Essay
What Dreams Are
Dreams, we all have them at one time or another, and in one form or another. They can be
daydreams, when we re awake, wishing and hoping for something more (bigger and better) than
we already have, or the way we hope things should and would be. Next there is the wish, this is
when there is a strong desire for a specific thing, a longing for one particular thing. Then there is
the nightmare. They are the dreams that are very disturbing, full of fear and horror. They are
often a very scary event played out while one is asleep, although we do not know we are asleep.
Dreams are a sequence of images etc. passing through a sleeping persons mind (Webster s 182).

A secretion of our thoughts, and through them our thought is purified (Webster s 155). A daydream
is a passive imagination. If we mistake these imaginings for reality, they would be called
hallucinations (World 67). Daydreams allow one to temporarily escape from reality, to
overcome frustration or satisfy hidden wishes. However when one lives only in his daydreams,
he may have a serious mental disorder. The daydreamer may imagine himself as a hero or
superstar or a highly successful businessman. These daydreams are universal and may actually

continue to hope and wish for things all our lives, but it seems Young people have an almost
biological destiny to be hopeful (Digest 49). Our great writers have often used the word wish in
their writings. Shakespeare is often quoted in his work, for instance; Wish vb. Recommended (a
person) to (another), commend to SHR 1. 1. 112. I wish him to her father, SHR 1. 2. 60. To wish
for something is similar to a daydream; however, it is usually for a particular thing, like a bigger
and better house or car. Also a wish can be an illusion where one s perception of reality is mistaken.

Outline Of The Dinosaur Extinction
Outline
The Dinosaur Extinction:
Introduction to the K T event.
Theories of extinction.
Assumptions of extinction:
1.Due to climate change.
2.Due to small mammals that ate dinosaur eggs.
3.Due to dinosaurs bodies that are too big to be worked by their little brains.
4.Due to starvation.
5.Due to environmental change.
6.Due to Supernova that showered the earth in radiation.
7.Due to iridium enriched mud.
Extinction Still a theory.
The K T event, or the Cretaceous Tertiary extinction event, is the name given for the vanishing of
the dinosaurs and different species that took place about 65 million year back. For ages, scientists
believed that this event was caused due to the atmospheric and topographical changes that invaded
on the dinosaurs food supply. But, in the 1980s, researchers Luis and Walter Alvarez discovered a
layer of iridium on the earth s surface. It suggests that a comet, space rock or meteor effect might
have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. In the 1990s, researchers found the enormous
Chicxulub Crater at the tip of Mexico s Yucantan Peninsula, which dates to the period being referred
[1].
There are various theories, yet no proofs. Dinosaurs wandered the earth for about 160 million years
until their sudden eradication approximately 65 million years prior, in a K T extinction event.
Other than dinosaurs, numerous different types animals and plants ceased to

The Chevrolet Volt Adventure
The second chapter of the Chevrolet Volt adventure is about to begin. Fans of this hybrid
electric vehicle have been keeping a close eye on all things Volt, learning early on the new model
has a lower price and is more efficient than the first generation vehicle. This week, the EPA
confirmed that the 2016 Chevrolet Volt provides a 53 mile electric range, leading to a nearly 40
percent longer range on a single charge.
Range is the be all and end all of EV driving. Although the Volt has a 1.5 liter power generator to

Five model years after releasing the first generation Chevrolet Volt, GM is applying other changes
that will enhance the ownership experience.
Indeed, the new Volt will better utilize the electric motor when driving. In the first generation
model, the 111 kilowatt traction electric motor operated independently of the 55 kilowatt gasoline

certain driving circumstances. It also relies on a 75 kilowatt gasoline generator to deliver more
power as needed.
Regular Grade Gasoline Okayed
Overall fuel efficiency is up too. The first generation Volt achieved 37 mpg. The second
generation model is EPA rated at 42 mpg. Where the first generation model required premium fuel,

Banning Books In Schools Essay
Thesis: Classic works of literature should not be amended or banned because the novels pertain to
pivotal moments in history and help shape literary works today.
Often, groups of people with similar interests will congregate with the intent of banning a book
or ridding it of certain material. Not only does this strip classic literature of its raw delicacies, but
it violates the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. In New York in 1949, classic
works such as Oliver Twist and The Merchant of Venice were thought to generate hatred toward to
Jews (Gould). While some may be offended by an author s point of view or ideals, removing
potentially offensive language from books not only violates the right to freedom of speech, but ...

Strongly opposing censorship, Jenkins claims, According to this perspective, children can only
respond to books by imitating what they read. If, for example, a book tells a story about a child
getting lost in a store and getting an ice cream cone when they are finally found, young readers
will respond by heading for a store so that they can get lost and have ice cream cones too.
Children really have much more complicated minds than that they aren t just passive vessels.
Books are really just one piece of their whole world (University of Illinois). Jenkins comments
on the impressionable youth and the impact that works of literature have on them to prove that
the youth is more mature and sensible than certain institutions believe them to be. By removing
questionable material from books, these institutions in which books are banned are removing all
trust and confidence in readers. Hiding classic literature from children, again, sets boundaries on
their knowledge and does not allow them to appreciate timeless works. Jenkins also says, The
act of banning a book is taking a public stance to intimidate potential readers. It s almost as if
they re saying, Read this, and you will meet with our disapproval. It s definitely more of a
symbolic act, in the same way that flag burning is a symbolic act (University of

Stress Relief
Stress affects human performance in so many ways that just to list the impact upon work would
take half of this page. People under high stress become forgetful, are often late for work, miss
appointments, have more sick days, have lower competence levels, are more irritable and difficult
to get along with, are more likely to break things (by accident or intention) and are great candidates
for the kinds of stressrelated illnesses and accidents that drain Workers Compensation benefits.
Stress reduction must be a constant, on going process in all our lives. It helps us avoid pain,
illness and accident. And, a low stress (or low distress) lifestyle is certainly the most pleasant.

Ratio and Financial Statement Analysis Essay
Executive Summary
This paper examines financial ratio analysis by defining, the three groups of stakeholders that use
financial ratios, the five different kinds of ratios used and their applications, the analytical tools
used in analysis, and finally financial ratio analysis limitations and benefits.
The paper illustrates that financial ratio analysis is an important tool for firm s to evaluate their
financial health in order to identify areas of weakness so as to institute corrective measures.
While financial ratio analysis does contain limitations that include little theory to guide them as
well as the use of accounting data based on historical costs that may not reflect a firm s true

One is Working capital to total assets ratio that measures a firm s ability to pay off its short term
liabilities and is calculated by subtracting current liabilities from current assets divided by total
assets. The retained earnings to total assets ratio that measures a firm s use of its total asset base
to generate earnings is also used. It is important to note that retained earnings can be easily
manipulated distorting the final calculation. The third financial ratio used by the Z score
formula is the market value of equity to book value of debt. This is the inverse of the debt to
equity ratio, and it shows the amount a firm s assets can decline in value before liabilities
exceed assets. For closely held firms, stockholders equity or total assets less total liabilities can
be used but this amount has not been statistically verified for purposes of the formula. The sale
to total assets ratio that measures a firm s ability to generate sales with its asset base is also
used. The fifth financial ratio is the operating income to total assets. This ratio is the most
important factor in the formula because its profit that eventually makes or breaks a firm. In
calculating the Z score, each of these ratios is given a weight factor that is used within the
formula. (IOMA s report, 2003). See appendix I for the Z score formula and how to interpret the
results obtained. The Z score is used by firms when running regular financial data and firms use it

Another City Short Story
More Than Los Angeles
In the novel Another City many of the authors have their own opinions of how Los Angeles is or
how it shapes them as a person. Other stories are very short and tell stories of how Los Angeles
isn t as great a place even though we may have people fooled to think so. In the short story
Interesting Times the author Judith Lewis tells us about how she adjusted to living in Los Angeles
and how she views the city before and after lives there. Whether she felt she didn t belong,
people were too distracted with their own lives, or people were united by tragic events, Los
Angeles became her home and a place she lived in interesting times. These themes come up often
in the story and are the base of how Lewis feels about Los Angeles as she settles in to the new city.
Lewis starts the story talking about how she lives in Hollywood and is surrounded by famous
actors, actresses, and the Bat Caves of Griffith Park which are called that not for the amount of
bats that are there but because it was the sight of the Adam West s tv show Batman s batcave.
She talks about how she walks through the caves so often that people have mistaken her for
famous actresses in the past. When she would go for walks for a long time a woman named
Carol was so distracted by her life she would call the author Jessica. Confusing her for Jessica
Harper, a famous actress. Lewis didn t grow up in Los Angeles, coming from Minnesota for
work she was reluctant to come and probably never expected her life would be quite like this,
walking through Hollywood being confused for someone famous which she isn t. She talks
about how she feels the life of Los Angeles isn t for her but over time she identifies with the
people in her area. She didn t originally belong there but goes on to say, I have grown into this
scene; absorbed its perverse aesthetic by osmosis, along with its polluted air, impossible beauty
standards, and bad driving habits. Cell phone caught between shoulder and chin I drive wildly in
the passing lane, dashing to appointments, always late, huffing about traffic as I breeze through the
door. I jog, eat granola for breakfast, guzzle Chardonnay, practice yoga, attend premieres. I am a

The Heart Essay
THE HEART The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a closed fist that functions as the body
s circulatory pump. It takes in deoxygenated blood through the veins and delivers it to the lungs for
oxygenation before pumping it into the various arteries (which provide oxygen and nutrients to
body tissues by transporting the blood throughout the body). The heartis located in the thoracic
cavity medial to the lungs and posterior to the sternum.
On its superior end, the base of the heart is attached to the aorta, pulmonary arteries and veins, and
the vena cava. The inferior tip of the heart, known as the apex, rests just superior to the diaphragm.

Myocardium makes up the majority of the thickness and mass of the heart wall and is the part of
the heart responsible for pumping blood. Below the myocardium is the thin endocardium layer.
Endocardium. Endocardium is the simple squamous endothelium layer that lines the inside of the
heart. The endocardium is very smooth and is responsible for keeping blood from sticking to the
inside of the heart and forming potentially deadly blood clots.
Chambers of the Heart
The heart contains 4 chambers: the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. The
atria are smaller than the ventricles and have thinner, less muscular walls than the ventricles. The
atria act as receiving chambers for blood, so they are connected to the veins that carry blood to the
heart. The ventricles are the larger, stronger pumping chambers that send blood out of the heart. The
ventricles are connected to the arteries that carry blood away from the heart.
The chambers on the right side of the heart are smaller and have less myocardium in their heart
wall when compared to the left side of the heart. This difference in size between the sides of the
heart is related to their functions and the size of the 2 circulatory loops. The right side of the heart
maintains pulmonary circulation to the nearby lungs while the left side of the heart pumps blood
all the way to the extremities of the body in the systemic circulatory

Rhetorical Analysis Of Fredrick Douglas s Speech
Fredrick Douglas, a freed slave, delivered a speech on July fourth 1852. This speech highlighted
the hypocrisy of the United States and revealed how citizens, slaves in particular, perceived
Independence Day. Douglas s speech exposed the nation, with a well constructed argument that
effectively solidified the main and most important point. Douglas used several rhetorical
strategies throughout his speech to argue his side. Fredrick Douglas used the rhetorical devices,
ethos to gain credibility, allusions to show comparisons, and pathos to spark an emotional
response in his speech to defend his claim about the hypocrisy of Independence Day. Douglas
was the first African American citizen to hold a high U.S. government rank. Douglas gained
recognition by being an abolitionist, journalist, and powerful speaker, he was also born a slave.
These two highly contradictory characteristics gave him an edge when delivering his Fourth of
July speech. Douglas began his speech by asking, ...why am I called upon to speak here today?
What have I or those I represent to do with your national independence? By asking two rhetorical
questions, Douglas allowed his audience to contemplate. This contemplation leads to the
realization, for most, that Douglas has more than enough credibility to be presenting and
speaking. Douglas establishes his importance and credibility in the first two lines of his speech.
Another way he established credibility is by making himself cohesive with the audience. In the
second paragraph Douglas says, Would to God, both for your sakes and ours, than an affirmative
answer could be truthfully returned to these questions. In the mid 1800 s religion was an
overwhelmingly large piece of people s lives. By referring to religion Douglas can establish that
he is a godly man and can be trusted. He also established a connection to a large part of his
audience by just mentioning God. Throughout the introduction to Douglas s speech, he built up his
credibility and allows himself to appeal to more of the audience by using ethos. This credibility not
only created a concrete connection with the white audience, but also with the African American
audience. By doing this, Douglas allowed himself to appeal to a

The Pros And Cons Of Praising God
The word praise, from Old French and Latin, means to praise someone, to glorify and extol
through song or compliments and dedication. Praising the Lord is an ocean of feelings at once.
Praising the Lord is expecting a song and acquiring a torrential downpour of adoration and
acceptance; everything pales in comparison. Praising the Lord is expecting disdain and attaining
complete acceptance of every element of you. It is finally realizing how flawless He made you.
Falling from the path He created for you does not suggest that you cannot be forgiven of your

Michael Foucault distinguishes between two different and distinct forms of power, disciplinary
and sovereign. Fouccault describes disciplinary power as the new type of power in the modern
civilization. The use of disciplinary power transpired in the 17th and 18th century, and it used
specific procedures such as distributing individuals into space, controls of activity, observation,
judging, and examination, to regulate the people. The first way to create discipline is to distribute
individuals in space. This space is usually analytical and physical. Discipline demands enclose, so

We have something similar to this in gymnastics. We do and exhibition where everything need to

exhibitions be successful we need constant monitoring to see if we are with the music and with
each other. The next step to achieving discipline is through observation. This gives you powerby
simply observing visually seeing what is going on. In this you are under constant surveillance.
By being put under this constant examination you are always being put to the test to see if you
measure up to set standards. An example of this is the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. You are

prescribed a corrective boot. Byron barely wore it though. In 1789 Byron moved in with his
mom. She was emotionally unstable which took a toll on Byron. While getting his foot looked
at and worked on a Presbyterian nurse got Byron to find a love for the Bible. When young he got
into school, which helped him find the passion to read, and a passion for history. These
experiences started his love for writing in the 1800s (poetryfoundation.org). Lord Byron started
writing in the 1800s. He was a poet that wrote Romance poems. Byron was so into this style of
writing, because everything he wrote about pertained to his life
Cutlip 2 and feelings about certain things. This made him very popular. Romance was not a huge
topic. Byron started to

Research Paper On Teddy Bear
The teddy bear was appeared in two parts of the world at about the same time. In 1903 in
Germany, Margarete Steiff made toy animals out of felt scraps in a small factory owned by her
family. Her nephew, asked her to make a bear similar to his sketches of bears at the zoo. She did
not want a toy bear to scare children, so she modified the bear s features. She used brown mohair
to create a bear whose head, arms, and legs could move independently so that the bear would be
more like a real animal and could sit or stand. He was stuffed with wood shavings and had shoe
button eyes with embroidered nose and mouth. The bear was displayed at a toy show in Germany,
which caught the attention of an American toy buyer, who ordered 3,000 bears. Now

Chinese Dynasty Research Paper
The development the Chinese state and political institutions are classical Chinese government that
is based on the dynastic cycle. Which says that a family would start their rule with strength, would
grow weaker, and then another dynasty would take its place. Each dynasty that was ruling had the
order of heaven and once they lost it another dynasty would take its place. Confucianism grew to be
a big inspiration on the political state of China, like it became a highly centralized and bureaucratic
government. People gained government offices by earning them through passing the civil service
exams, which were based on Confucian classics.

They did this by allowing a group to get together to promote peace of the world to others. Also the
use of iron helped civilizations make stronger and better weapons. Cause the side with the best
weapons usually were the ones to win. Gunpowder, horse riders, cannons, stronger armor were all
of the elements you need to win. Every time there was a major technological development, the side
that adopted it first gained power over all the others.
E: The class structure and gender relations in classical China are the class structures that are
dictated by occupation. At the upper class is were the scholar gentry class of highly educated
landowners that held almost all of the government positions. Then there are the skilled merchants
and farmers, then the unskilled workers and peasants, then merchants. Which they thought they did
not work hard and benefited from other peoples work.
F: The class that came to dominate Chinese government was the scholar gentry class of land
owning honorable elites. They gained power by being educated and gaining government positions
because the public service exams were very challenging and only the rich had time to study. The
poor never had time to study, so they would usually never pass because it was a hard

Reflection Paper On Lacrosse
I wake up, grab my lacrosse stick, ball, and grab the net and started to shoot. I play of my state
lacrosse team we have our first tournament this weekend and I don t wanna be the reason that we
lose. I was originally a D pole for my city team but my coach for state thought otherwise. I could
run the field in 20 seconds flat. At least that is what my coach said. I started out the day with a
couple fakes and spin moves nothing hard just the kind of stuff you need to know when you
want to start. My sister decides to come and play me in a 1v1 (me and my sister are competitive) I
accept so we go to the plains across the street I bring the net along with us. I just school her badly
10:0 she challenged me at my own game1st mistake.
We head back every day I have lacrosse practice at 3:30 until 5:30 that is the best practice ever
because all we do is get in the middle and get on top both 1v1 games against your own teammate. I
used to play D pole like I said but now it is easier to use a short pole. I go through my day of 3
hours in the morning of practice at the plains across the street and hanging with friends doing
more lacrosse. Then it becomes 3 and I have to leave for lacrosse so I grab my gear bag and longer
leaving my long pole there.
We reach the area of where I practice I m usually the first one there but everyone is ready and
geared up and warming up I was late for the first time in my life my dad is so mad. Get out there
Jax you re late I forgot that practice was early today it started at 2. My heart sank I was late so I
wind sprint out of the car and all I hear is there s Jax. Coach is saying I m late so as quick as I
can I strap up my helmet chest and shoulder pads and gloves and ran faster than I ever have
before out there. Today is the day the first day of the tournament all these teams look like the
would be tough but who knows except for the team itself. The thing about state tournaments is
that the teams that you played and beat could have gotten a whole lot better so with a lacrosse
state tournament you have to stay of your game and get better no matter if you re a starter and
always will be a starter. As we head to our group of tents I don t see anyone even if they are the
starters there are

The Main Determinants Of Fdi
Investment opportunities in Romania. Main determinants of FDI attractiveness in the country
1.Abstract
It is a well known fact that there has been an increasing interest in emerging markets shown by
foreign investors. Investing in emerging markets is risky on the one hand, but can offer attractive
returns on the other hand. Over the last few years, countries from Eastern Europe and from the
Former Soviet Union have encountered rapid productivity growth that has raised the living
standards and has lowered the level of poverty (World Bank, 2008). One of the new attractive
destinations preferred by investors is the Black Sea area and specifically Romania. However, by
having been closely linked to the other former Soviet republics, all ... Show more content on

To understand foreign direct investment we should determine the main motivations causing a firm
to invest in other countries rather than export or subcontract production. Therefore, the main aim of
this paper is to emphasize based on an econometric analysis using data for Romania for a period of
23 years the fundamental determinants of foreign direct investments attractiveness.
2.2.Social and economic change
Central and Eastern European countries offer appealing circumstances, such as lower labour costs
together with a well educated labour pool. Therefore, these countries compete with each other for
obtaining higher foreign direct investments. More than that, the fiscal system has become
extremely supportive in the majority of these countries. As a result, foreign investors began to open
new branches in these regions (Birsan, Buiga,2008).
First of all, I would like to point out that Romania benefits from a strategic geographical position, a
well educated and quite cheap labour pool, a constantly changing small and medium enterprise
sector, as well as good energy and agriculture. Despite having precious assets and strong growth
possibilities, the Romanian economy has certainly room for improvement.
In 1990, the country went through a revolution in 1989 and since then, it has faced significant
change. Its official switch from a communist state was completed in 2007 when Romania adhered
to the European Union.

Analyzing Bonaventure s Essay
Finally, insofar as he is the life, Christ is the source of the contemplative cognition, the final stage
of the cognitive process. Once again, he grounds his exposition on Biblical sources, first focusing
on John 10:9. In this passage, we find the apostle writing that I am the gate. Whoever enters by me
will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture . In connection to the present theme,
Bonaventure argues on the ground of this passage that the soul contemplates [...] in two ways,
according to two kinds of nourishment: internally in divinity and externally in humanity.
Accordingly, there are two modes of contemplating, going in and going out, which one can attain
only through Christ . More specifically, on the one hand Bonaventure writes that we go into Christ
inasmuch as he is the uncreated Word [...] . As such, Christ represents the gateway to the
contemplation of the principal light an expression he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this sense, just as the cognitive process began with our faith placed in revelation and authority,
we reach the stability and fullness of truth by contemplating Christ as the uncreated or as the
incarnate Word. Even in contemplation, the internal and incorporeal presence of Christ is
necessarily joined by his external and corporeal presence. What is different now, is that in
contemplation, be it on the inside or on the outside, what we meet and contemplate is in both cases
the eternal Word or, Christ according to his being eternal , once being incarnated in human form,
and once as we encounter it in our soul. This, is done with an act of direct appraisal, whereas in
faith both revelation and authority both needed the other as their support and explanandum thereby
receiving a sort of indirect confirmation, insofar as revelation taught and explained authority, and
authority confirmed and taught

Transcendentalistic Values In Into The Wild By Chris...
The book Into the Wild highlights the adventures of Chris McCandless, and grants you a look at
the trail that lead McCandless into the woods and why he did not return. Throughout the book
McCandless actions were the embodiment of transcendentalistic values some 160 years after the
the movement came to prevelence. McCandless embodied the keys of non conformity, self
expression, and reducing dependence on property. These are just a few of the keys that can be
found in his life.
Chris McCandless was the perfect example of marching to the beat of your own drum, and therefore
resembled the transcendentalist key of non conformity. In the book Into the WildMcCandless is
quoted saying, The government which governs least is best. McCandless did not want the
government to interfere with his life while they are unable to combat some of the fundamental
problems of society like poverty and hungry. McCandless was a believer is doing something your
own way, and if it did not go along with your morals, it must be defied. The essay Civil
Disobedience best resembles McCandless attitude towards the government. Like Thoreau,
McCandless thought that a strong government would interfere with the way he chose to live his
life. Nevertheless, along with not conforming to social benchmarks, McCandless lived by the
principal of reducing his dependence on property. Throughout all of his journies McCandless was
known for travelling with bare minimum supplies, and reducing his dependence on

The Importance Of Child Labor
We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign created by protesters of the 1903 march for workers rights
(Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones organized a march to the President in order to fight against
the injustice of child labor. Nelson Mandela walked the long road in hopes of finding freedom for
all, and Melba Pattillo Bealsworked alongside eight others to help integrate Little Rock s Central
High School, strengthening her inner warrior. These three individuals devoted their lives to causes
that are imperative, and although they all had their separate fashions of standing up, they all were
fighting for the same cause: human rights. Mother Jones was a passionate person who strived to
accomplish her central goal of abolishing child labor. I love children, Mother Jones passionately
told a reporter (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones was always there for the children that she met,
and she would do anything for the children, despite the fact that they weren t her own. She had tied
the shoes of children, wiped their noses, hugged them while they cried, scrambled to find food for
them, fought for their rights , all because she loved and treasured the children (Pinkerton
Josephson). Every day, children that worked in the textile industry were forced to endanger
themselves in order to complete treacherous assignments for little pay, and this broke Mother Jones
s heart. Oftentimes children got hurt in mill accidents, and Mother Jones saw some with their hands
off, some

Economic Traditionalism As The Antithesis Of Economic...
Economic traditionalism is essentially the antithesis of modern capitalism. Within this
framework, work was viewed as a necessary evil (Kalberg 2011a: p. 418). It was simply the
means through which people acquire the economic needs necessary for survival. Therefore, work
and money did not take precedence over one s family, community, and leisure. The tasks
themselves were based on custom and tradition, and were independent of the individual himself.
That is, work did not constitute one s self identity. Luther was an extreme proponent of this
ideology. He was suspicious of wealth and asserted that money should only be enough to live a life
of integrity. Weber ([1905] 2011) describes Luther s reservation:
Luther was convinced that people of every status can become saved...Therefore, the striving for
material gain that goes beyond one s own needs, Luther argues, must be a symptom of one s lack
of grace. Indeed, because striving for gain appears to be possible only at the expense of others, this
pursuit must be viewed as an unequivocal abomination. (P. 103)
Thus, Luther was critical of those who utilized work to feed their avarice. Instead, asceticism was
highly valued; as people were advised to renounce gluttony and avoid succumbing to their physical
and sensual pleasures. Luther was also wary of those who attempted to venture outside of their
calling. This was viewed as tinkering with God s will and undermining His plan for the individual s
salvation. Therefore, the

Indian Ocean Is The Epicenter Of The World s Maritime...
36.The IOR with its plethora of resources is the epicenter of the world s maritime trade. In the
present century the posturing of the contending parties over rival claims over maritime resources
is therefore becoming increasingly belligerent . The jostling for power which the world is
witnessing in the region has given rise to three main contenders India, China and US. Having seen
the geopolitics, the economic arena and the maritime security environment it is imperative on us
to carry out a systematic in depth analysis of the strategic interests of India and China with
specific focus on the views of each other s policy in the region so as to arrive at a strategic
conclusion.
37.Before moving ahead it is important to note that Indian Ocean is in our backyard and is often
regarded as India s ocean. China time and again has refuted this claim and off late has started
projecting its forces far from the hinterland on the pretext of securing its SLOCs. In spite of
proximity to Pacific China is coerced to the Indian Ocean for the following reasons : (a)Energy
dependence. (b)Peaceful development. (c)India s growth as a preeminent maritime power.
(d)SLOCs vulnerability. (e)Diversification of sourcing of energy imports.(f)Pursuance of policy of
encirclement.

The Consequences Of Mississippi Burning
Mississippi Burning is based on a real historical event that takes place in the middle the civil rights
movement in Mississippi in 1964. The story sheds light on the investigation of the disappearance of
three civil rights workers. Faced with the daunting challenge of investigating a murder case in a
town where the Ku Klux Klanenjoys a great deal of support and discrimination runs deep, the FBI
agent had to resort to unconventional methods to crack the mystery behind the disappearance of
the three men. This film shows the deep division that persisted in the south and it gives us a
glimpse of the horror that Black people had to endure. This film illustrates the struggle of black
people in their quest to equality and justice. It gives us, the students a greater sense of this dark
history of our country and serves as a reminder that we must always be cognizant of the bleak
consequences of hate and discrimination.
Mississippi Burning is a portrayal of the murder of three Civil Right Worker in Mississippi in 1964
and challenges faced by the two FBI agents to bring those murderers to justice. At night, three civil
rights workers are driving in the Mississippi backwoods when a few cars appear out of nowhere
and one of them starts bumping into the rear end of the car of the civil rights workers. The activist
s car pulls to the side when one of the cars tailing them puts on its police light. The deputy gets out
of the car, approaches the car and shoots the occupant of the vehicle

Compare And Contrast Mma And Boxing
A sport is a competitive game that emphasizes physical abilities. Boxing and MMA are two
popular sports. They are in the class of combat sports. Boxing is one of the oldest sports in the
history of the world. The Independent argues that the sport of boxing is one of the oldest sports
still practiced to this day. It is a sport where two opponents must face each other in the ring and
fight till someone is knocked out or until the round ends. The person with the most points which
are obtained by punching the opponent will win the match. MMA is a newer sport, a sport that
has only been around for a couple of decades. MMA is similar to boxingin a sense that two
opponents fight each other. However, there are many factors that make MMA significantly different
from Boxing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different variations and techniques of punching. Some of these punches are the jab,
the cross, the hook, and the uppercut. MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. As the name states,
MMA is many different martial arts and fighting styles mixed together. Some of those martial arts
and fighting styles are Muai Thai Kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu Grappling, and variations of wrestling and
boxing. Even though they are both combat sports, Boxing and MMA are significantly different.
The Independent states that MMA has certain aspects of boxing within the technique.
The rounds and timings are very different. Bleacherreport states that in Boxing, there are six to
twelve rounds and each one lasts three minutes. Bleacherreport also states that in MMA there are
three rounds, and they all last five minutes. Both sports are similar in a sense that there are timed
rounds instead of quarters such as in other sports, but that is the only similarity because the round s
timings are different. It is significant that the timings are different because the training of the
athletes will be built around how much time that they have.
Even though both sports are considerably different, there are some similarities

The musical is a lot like the book, both having the key message of finding and chasing your dreams. In the beginning of The Sound of Music, Captain Von Trapp is cold and distant, but thanks to the efforts of his children and Maria, he realizes how important his familyis and how much he had been mistreating them. • 3. Exploring The Anglo-Saxon Hero What is a hero? Perhaps it should be rephrased: who is a hero? Of course, it now becomes easy to answer we can say Odysseus, as he didn t just assist in the victory at Troy, but fought the gods with his longing for his home; or Beowulf, who fought of the terrible monsters in Hrothgar s kingdom as well as his own; or Byrhtnoth, who died while defending the land he loved. Clearly, it is easy to list off the heroes in these ancient poems. However, why is this so, why can we so easily identify heroes without consciously recognizing the clues that lead us to those conclusions? While this question may remain unanswerable without understanding psychology, it is still possible to understand what makes a hero tick his set of features... By telling Wiglaf to bring the treasure to him, Beowulf is showing the audience that despite his imminent departure from the mortal world, he still possesses a greed for treasure. While some argue that Beowulf is merely trying to understand the fate of his kingdom based on its newfound wealth, the desire for treasure is nonetheless childish telltale signs of selfish attributes in Beowulf s character. The story of the Volsung family contains the tale of Sigmund in The Saga of the Volsungs. Sigmund is also a mythological character, due to his immediate relation to the mythical Volsung family, just like Beowulf. His actions, such as becoming a wolf (just like Beowulf) with his incestuous son Sinfjotli in the forest, embarking on an adventure to fight hunters, are clearly impossible without the mythological or legendary setting. For this reason, we classify Sigmund as being mythological, since he could not have been real, at least based this description. Similar to Beowulf, audiences can observe crucial, dark characteristics of Sigmund that distinguish him. His legendary feats are just that legendary. However, they also possess negative qualities. In the previous example of how Sigmund and Sinfjotli put the skins on (The Saga of the Volsungs, p. 44), Sigmund does not just run about the forest happily, he and Sinfjotli terrorize hunters by competing to kill more ... Others look back in misery, and wish they could change it. However, in both cases, some may long for it to come back. This may be because they want to be there again where it was perfect in their eyes, or to change it, because their past is full of regret. One of these instances is the four old friends from the short story Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The four, Mr. Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherly, all had terrible pasts, and had extreme desire to go back in time to fix it, which they almost did. The four want to change their past, and this brings about the theme of it is impossible to change it. When the four enter the Doctor s house, they are introduced to the reader as, They were all melancholy old creatures, who had been unfortunate in life, and whose greatest misfortune it was that they were not long ago in their graves. Through this quote Hawthorne is pointing out they were all failures in life. They all wished they were dead, their lives so wasted and dreary. This shows their longing to change their past. This is the decision that made The Constitution. Critics of the Electoral College often make three main arguments. The first argument states that the Electoral College does not accurately represent the will of the people. The Electoral College s failure to capture the will of the people derives from the winner take all system where the Presidential candidates compete to win the most popular votes and whoever wins in that state, wins all the electoral votes of that state. With this, it becomes difficult if not impossible for third party or independent parties to make a showing in the Electoral College. Subsequently, the argument states that the Electoral College supports a two party system and discourages third party and independent candidates, which in turn restricts the choices available to the electorate. The second argument is the possible role of the Electoral College in depressing the voter turnout. Since each State is entitled to the same number of electoral votes regardless of its voter turnout, there is no incentive in the States to encourage voter participation and, finally the third argument is based on the alleged unfairness in the process by which the votes are distributed among the ... • 18. Internal Devaluation And Its Effects On The Economy Furthermore, the Fund also recognized that after nearly four years of internal devaluation, the economic strategy had not succeeded. The idea of an internal devaluation is that if you create enough mass unemployment and push wages down far enough, the economy can become more competitive due to lower labor costs. This allows exports to grow, and import competing industries to also do better, improving the trade balance. Since exports add to economic growth and employment, and reduced imports do the same, the economy can recover in this scenario due to increasing net exports (exports minus imports). Normally this could be attempted through a devaluation of the currency. But the troika has only recently shown any intention of trying to push the euros value down against external trading partners; and of course since it is a common currency, the more depressed economies within the currency union can t devalue against the others (e.g. Spain versus Germany). This leaves internal devaluation as the remaining hope for recovery for countries such as Spain, Greece, and Portugal. In other words, despite the negative impact of the fiscal austerity, the theory is that internal devaluation based on lower labor costs can drive recovery based on the growth of net exports. But it took years to reach this point despite crushing levels of unemployment and mandated reductions in the social wage (e.g., pensions and health care). Medical Malpratices in Surgery Medical malpractice cases increases when a patient is harmed or injured by a doctor or nurse or other medical professional who fails to provide proper and better health care treatment. Fortunately, doctors, nurses, and hospitals make mistakes in a small number of cases. But within that small minority of cases, certain types of errors crop up more often than others. Surgical errors can be medical malpractice if the surgeon s performance falls below the accepted standard of care for a reasonably competent surgeon under similar circumstances, and the patient is injured as a result. Although some surgical errors are the result of a physician s actual incompetence, most result from poor planning before surgery or failure to properly communicate with the patient or his/her family about the possible risks associated with a procedure. However when one lives only in his daydreams, he may have a serious mental disorder. The daydreamer may imagine himself as a hero or superstar or a highly successful businessman. These daydreams are universal and may actually help the person s ambition or creativity. Wish, a strong desire and longing for a specific thing (Webster s 1336). A wish is to hope for something with the expectation of it being fulfilled. We continue to hope and wish for things all our lives, but it seems Young people have an almost biological destiny to be hopeful (Digest 49). Our great writers have often used the word wish in their writings. Shakespeare is often quoted in his work, for instance; Wish vb. Recommended (a person) to (another), commend to SHR 1. 1. 112. I wish him to her father, SHR 1. 2. 60. To wish for something is similar to a daydream; however, it is usually for a particular thing, like a bigger and better house or car. Extinction Still a theory. The K T event, or the Cretaceous Tertiary extinction event, is the name given for the vanishing of the dinosaurs and different species that took place about 65 million year back. For ages, scientists believed that this event was caused due to the atmospheric and topographical changes that invaded on the dinosaurs food supply. But, in the 1980s, researchers Luis and Walter Alvarez discovered a layer of iridium on the earth s surface. It suggests that a comet, space rock or meteor effect might have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. In the 1990s, researchers found the enormous Chicxulub Crater at the tip of Mexico s Yucantan Peninsula, which dates to the period being referred [1]. There are various theories, yet no proofs. Banning Books In Schools Essay Thesis: Classic works of literature should not be amended or banned because the novels pertain to pivotal moments in history and help shape literary works today. Often, groups of people with similar interests will congregate with the intent of banning a book or ridding it of certain material. Not only does this strip classic literature of its raw delicacies, but it violates the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. In New York in 1949, classic works such as Oliver Twist and The Merchant of Venice were thought to generate hatred toward to Jews (Gould). If, for example, a book tells a story about a child getting lost in a store and getting an ice cream cone when they are finally found, young readers will respond by heading for a store so that they can get lost and have ice cream cones too. Children really have much more complicated minds than that they aren t just passive vessels. Books are really just one piece of their whole world (University of Illinois). Jenkins comments on the impressionable youth and the impact that works of literature have on them to prove that the youth is more mature and sensible than certain institutions believe them to be. By removing questionable material from books, these institutions in which books are banned are removing all trust and confidence in readers. Hiding classic literature from children, again, sets boundaries on their knowledge and does not allow them to appreciate timeless works. Jenkins also says, The act of banning a book is taking a public stance to intimidate potential readers. It s almost as if they re saying, Read this, and you will meet with our disapproval. • 31. Another City Short Story More Than Los Angeles In the novel Another City many of the authors have their own opinions of how Los Angeles is or how it shapes them as a person. Other stories are very short and tell stories of how Los Angeles isn t as great a place even though we may have people fooled to think so. In the short story Interesting Times the author Judith Lewis tells us about how she adjusted to living in Los Angeles and how she views the city before and after lives there. Whether she felt she didn t belong, people were too distracted with their own lives, or people were united by tragic events, Los Angeles became her home and a place she lived in interesting times. These themes come up often in the story and are the base of how Lewis feels about Los Angeles as she settles in to the new city. Lewis starts the story talking about how she lives in Hollywood and is surrounded by famous actors, actresses, and the Bat Caves of Griffith Park which are called that not for the amount of bats that are there but because it was the sight of the Adam West s tv show Batman s batcave. She talks about how she walks through the caves so often that people have mistaken her for famous actresses in the past. When she would go for walks for a long time a woman named Carol was so distracted by her life she would call the author Jessica. Confusing her for Jessica Harper, a famous actress. Lewis didn t grow up in Los Angeles, coming from Minnesota for work she was reluctant to come and probably never expected her life would be quite like this, walking through Hollywood being confused for someone famous which she isn t. She talks about how she feels the life of Los Angeles isn t for her but over time she identifies with the people in her area. She didn t originally belong there but goes on to say, I have grown into this scene; absorbed its perverse aesthetic by osmosis, along with its polluted air, impossible beauty standards, and bad driving habits. It takes in deoxygenated blood through the veins and delivers it to the lungs for oxygenation before pumping it into the various arteries (which provide oxygen and nutrients to body tissues by transporting the blood throughout the body). The heartis located in the thoracic cavity medial to the lungs and posterior to the sternum. On its superior end, the base of the heart is attached to the aorta, pulmonary arteries and veins, and the vena cava. Chambers of the Heart The heart contains 4 chambers: the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. The atria are smaller than the ventricles and have thinner, less muscular walls than the ventricles. The atria act as receiving chambers for blood, so they are connected to the veins that carry blood to the heart. The ventricles are the larger, stronger pumping chambers that send blood out of the heart. The ventricles are connected to the arteries that carry blood away from the heart. • 33. Rhetorical Analysis Of Fredrick Douglas s Speech Fredrick Douglas, a freed slave, delivered a speech on July fourth 1852. This speech highlighted the hypocrisy of the United States and revealed how citizens, slaves in particular, perceived Independence Day. Douglas s speech exposed the nation, with a well constructed argument that effectively solidified the main and most important point. Douglas used several rhetorical strategies throughout his speech to argue his side. Fredrick Douglas used the rhetorical devices, ethos to gain credibility, allusions to show comparisons, and pathos to spark an emotional response in his speech to defend his claim about the hypocrisy of Independence Day. Douglas was the first African American citizen to hold a high U.S. government rank. Douglas gained recognition by being an abolitionist, journalist, and powerful speaker, he was also born a slave. These two highly contradictory characteristics gave him an edge when delivering his Fourth of July speech. Douglas began his speech by asking, ...why am I called upon to speak here today? What have I or those I represent to do with your national independence? By asking two rhetorical questions, Douglas allowed his audience to contemplate. This contemplation leads to the realization, for most, that Douglas has more than enough credibility to be presenting and speaking. Douglas establishes his importance and credibility in the first two lines of his speech. Another way he established credibility is by making himself cohesive with the audience. In the second paragraph Douglas says, Would to God, both for your sakes and ours, than an affirmative answer could be truthfully returned to these questions. In the mid 1800 s religion was an overwhelmingly large piece of people s lives. By referring to religion Douglas can establish that he is a godly man and can be trusted. He also established a connection to a large part of his audience by just mentioning God. Throughout the introduction to Douglas s speech, he built up his credibility and allows himself to appeal to more of the audience by using ethos. This credibility not only created a concrete connection with the white audience, but also with the African American audience. By doing this, Douglas allowed himself to appeal to a ... • 43. Reflection Paper On Lacrosse I wake up, grab my lacrosse stick, ball, and grab the net and started to shoot. I play of my state lacrosse team we have our first tournament this weekend and I don t wanna be the reason that we lose. I was originally a D pole for my city team but my coach for state thought otherwise. I could run the field in 20 seconds flat. At least that is what my coach said. I started out the day with a couple fakes and spin moves nothing hard just the kind of stuff you need to know when you want to start. My sister decides to come and play me in a 1v1 (me and my sister are competitive) I accept so we go to the plains across the street I bring the net along with us. I just school her badly 10:0 she challenged me at my own game1st mistake. We head back every day I have lacrosse practice at 3:30 until 5:30 that is the best practice ever because all we do is get in the middle and get on top both 1v1 games against your own teammate. I used to play D pole like I said but now it is easier to use a short pole. I go through my day of 3 hours in the morning of practice at the plains across the street and hanging with friends doing more lacrosse. Then it becomes 3 and I have to leave for lacrosse so I grab my gear bag and longer leaving my long pole there. We reach the area of where I practice I m usually the first one there but everyone is ready and geared up and warming up I was late for the first time in my life my dad is so mad. Get out there Jax you re late I forgot that practice was early today it started at 2. My heart sank I was late so I wind sprint out of the car and all I hear is there s Jax. Coach is saying I m late so as quick as I can I strap up my helmet chest and shoulder pads and gloves and ran faster than I ever have before out there. Today is the day the first day of the tournament all these teams look like the would be tough but who knows except for the team itself. The thing about state tournaments is that the teams that you played and beat could have gotten a whole lot better so with a lacrosse state tournament you have to stay of your game and get better no matter if you re a starter and always will be a starter. As we head to our group of tents I don t see anyone even if they are the starters there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Main Determinants Of Fdi Investment opportunities in Romania. Main determinants of FDI attractiveness in the country 1.Abstract It is a well known fact that there has been an increasing interest in emerging markets shown by foreign investors. Investing in emerging markets is risky on the one hand, but can offer attractive returns on the other hand. Over the last few years, countries from Eastern Europe and from the Former Soviet Union have encountered rapid productivity growth that has raised the living standards and has lowered the level of poverty (World Bank, 2008). One of the new attractive destinations preferred by investors is the Black Sea area and specifically Romania. However, by having been closely linked to the other former Soviet republics, all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To understand foreign direct investment we should determine the main motivations causing a firm to invest in other countries rather than export or subcontract production. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to emphasize based on an econometric analysis using data for Romania for a period of 23 years the fundamental determinants of foreign direct investments attractiveness. 2.2.Social and economic change Central and Eastern European countries offer appealing circumstances, such as lower labour costs together with a well educated labour pool. Therefore, these countries compete with each other for obtaining higher foreign direct investments. More than that, the fiscal system has become extremely supportive in the majority of these countries. As a result, foreign investors began to open new branches in these regions (Birsan, Buiga,2008). First of all, I would like to point out that Romania benefits from a strategic geographical position, a well educated and quite cheap labour pool, a constantly changing small and medium enterprise sector, as well as good energy and agriculture. Despite having precious assets and strong growth possibilities, the Romanian economy has certainly room for improvement. In 1990, the country went through a revolution in 1989 and since then, it has faced significant change. Its official switch from a communist state was completed in 2007 when Romania adhered to the European Union. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Analyzing Bonaventure s Essay Finally, insofar as he is the life, Christ is the source of the contemplative cognition, the final stage of the cognitive process. Once again, he grounds his exposition on Biblical sources, first focusing on John 10:9. In this passage, we find the apostle writing that I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture . In connection to the present theme, Bonaventure argues on the ground of this passage that the soul contemplates [...] in two ways, according to two kinds of nourishment: internally in divinity and externally in humanity. Accordingly, there are two modes of contemplating, going in and going out, which one can attain only through Christ . More specifically, on the one hand Bonaventure writes that we go into Christ inasmuch as he is the uncreated Word [...] . As such, Christ represents the gateway to the contemplation of the principal light an expression he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this sense, just as the cognitive process began with our faith placed in revelation and authority, we reach the stability and fullness of truth by contemplating Christ as the uncreated or as the incarnate Word. Even in contemplation, the internal and incorporeal presence of Christ is necessarily joined by his external and corporeal presence. What is different now, is that in contemplation, be it on the inside or on the outside, what we meet and contemplate is in both cases the eternal Word or, Christ according to his being eternal , once being incarnated in human form, and once as we encounter it in our soul. This, is done with an act of direct appraisal, whereas in faith both revelation and authority both needed the other as their support and explanandum thereby receiving a sort of indirect confirmation, insofar as revelation taught and explained authority, and authority confirmed and taught ... • 46. Transcendentalistic Values In Into The Wild By Chris... The book Into the Wild highlights the adventures of Chris McCandless, and grants you a look at the trail that lead McCandless into the woods and why he did not return. Throughout the book McCandless actions were the embodiment of transcendentalistic values some 160 years after the the movement came to prevelence. McCandless embodied the keys of non conformity, self expression, and reducing dependence on property. These are just a few of the keys that can be found in his life. Chris McCandless was the perfect example of marching to the beat of your own drum, and therefore resembled the transcendentalist key of non conformity. In the book Into the WildMcCandless is quoted saying, The government which governs least is best. McCandless did not want the government to interfere with his life while they are unable to combat some of the fundamental problems of society like poverty and hungry. McCandless was a believer is doing something your own way, and if it did not go along with your morals, it must be defied. The essay Civil Disobedience best resembles McCandless attitude towards the government. Like Thoreau, McCandless thought that a strong government would interfere with the way he chose to live his life. Nevertheless, along with not conforming to social benchmarks, McCandless lived by the principal of reducing his dependence on property. Throughout all of his journies McCandless was known for travelling with bare minimum supplies, and reducing his dependence on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Importance Of Child Labor We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign created by protesters of the 1903 march for workers rights (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones organized a march to the President in order to fight against the injustice of child labor. Nelson Mandela walked the long road in hopes of finding freedom for all, and Melba Pattillo Bealsworked alongside eight others to help integrate Little Rock s Central High School, strengthening her inner warrior. These three individuals devoted their lives to causes that are imperative, and although they all had their separate fashions of standing up, they all were fighting for the same cause: human rights. Mother Jones was a passionate person who strived to accomplish her central goal of abolishing child labor. I love children, Mother Jones passionately told a reporter (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones was always there for the children that she met, and she would do anything for the children, despite the fact that they weren t her own. She had tied the shoes of children, wiped their noses, hugged them while they cried, scrambled to find food for them, fought for their rights , all because she loved and treasured the children (Pinkerton Josephson). Every day, children that worked in the textile industry were forced to endanger themselves in order to complete treacherous assignments for little pay, and this broke Mother Jones s heart. • 48. Economic Traditionalism As The Antithesis Of Economic... Economic traditionalism is essentially the antithesis of modern capitalism. Within this framework, work was viewed as a necessary evil (Kalberg 2011a: p. 418). It was simply the means through which people acquire the economic needs necessary for survival. Therefore, work and money did not take precedence over one s family, community, and leisure. The tasks themselves were based on custom and tradition, and were independent of the individual himself. That is, work did not constitute one s self identity. Luther was an extreme proponent of this ideology. He was suspicious of wealth and asserted that money should only be enough to live a life of integrity. Weber ([1905] 2011) describes Luther s reservation: Luther was convinced that people of every status can become saved...Therefore, the striving for material gain that goes beyond one s own needs, Luther argues, must be a symptom of one s lack of grace. Indeed, because striving for gain appears to be possible only at the expense of others, this pursuit must be viewed as an unequivocal abomination. (P. 103) Thus, Luther was critical of those who utilized work to feed their avarice. Instead, asceticism was highly valued; as people were advised to renounce gluttony and avoid succumbing to their physical and sensual pleasures. Luther was also wary of those who attempted to venture outside of their calling. This was viewed as tinkering with God s will and undermining His plan for the individual s salvation. The jostling for power which the world is witnessing in the region has given rise to three main contenders India, China and US. Having seen the geopolitics, the economic arena and the maritime security environment it is imperative on us to carry out a systematic in depth analysis of the strategic interests of India and China with specific focus on the views of each other s policy in the region so as to arrive at a strategic conclusion. 37.Before moving ahead it is important to note that Indian Ocean is in our backyard and is often regarded as India s ocean. China time and again has refuted this claim and off late has started projecting its forces far from the hinterland on the pretext of securing its SLOCs. In spite of proximity to Pacific China is coerced to the Indian Ocean for the following reasons : (a)Energy dependence. (b)Peaceful development. (c)India s growth as a preeminent maritime power.
