The Lincoln Electric Company Essay
The Lincoln Electric Company was founded in 1895 by John C. Lincoln, who then partnered with
his younger brother James in 1907. The focus of the company originally was manufacturing electric
motors, which then expanded to include battery chargers and in the early 1900 s to portable
welding machines. (Lincoln Electric, 2016) The company was founded originally on a construct of
Christian values, which may have played a role in creating the dominant culture of the corporation.
(Sharplin) This paper presents an evaluative analysis of the business case study presented by Arthur
Sharplin, with a focus on determining the overall corporate culture of Lincoln Electric categorically.
John and James Lincoln professed to be devout Christians and embodied their faith in their
treatment of their employees early on in the company. While a clear hierarchy and protection of
management control was evident in their organizational structure, they ensured that employees had
regular access to the management team both formally and informally. Management roles may have
been protected and controlled but they were seen strictly as tasks to perform just as every other
employee was assigned their tasks. In this respect the workplace was and remains designed strictly
around function, no perks exist for management that do not exist for every employee. (Sharplin)
This example points to the importance of a people oriented culture in the workplace and is almost
egalitarian in nature. (Flat World Knowledge,

Valley Fold Studios Marketing Mix
In our major project, we in Valley Fold Studios will be creating a puzzle game for touchscreen
devices, where the player manipulates paper like structures into origami in three dimensional
space. Our goal is to create a well polished product that can be released to the public, primarily as
something we can be proud of and use to promote ourselves, as well as to potentially create
something that we can sell.
The target market that we expect our game to appeal to is mobile gamers in general. We are
targeting the wide age range that is represented in mobile gaming with the median age being 27.
We expect that our game will be gender neutral, appealing mostly to a teenage and older audience
as the puzzles will require calm thinking to complete. We intend for the game to be playable in
short sessions, with easy to learn mechanics and simple yet involving puzzles, giving the game a
pick up and play nature that can be played while commuting or anywhere that the player has a few
minutes of time to spare.
We intend to publish the game on one of, or both Google Play, and the Apple app store. Publishing
to android will most likely be an easier process as apple will require us to wait about six days or
more for the game to be reviewed, and there are 180 guidelines that the app must follow, however ...

Talbot 3). Perfectly healthy individuals are turning to these so called neuroenhancers (Talbot 3)
or smart pills (qtd. Cheshire 264) to improve their mental abilities. According to research led by
Sean Esteban McCabe, a professor at the University of Michigan s Substance Abuse Research
Center, the individuals most likely to take neuroenhancers in college were white male
undergraduates at highly competitive schools especially in the Northeast (Talbot 3). The appeal
of these drugs seems to lie in the fact that they target subjective symptoms (Cheshire 264) in
healthy people instead of a disease. Neuroenhancers are looked to as a way to quickly improve a
person s mental capabilities in order to perform better at tasks in a limited amount of time.
Another reason for the increasing rise in the use of neuroenhancers is that these drugs are readily
available. Often classmates have seen their peers with ADHD take these pills. In college, it is an
easy matter of borrowing some from a friend with ADHD who has a ready supply through a
prescription or they buy them from a supplier (Talbot 3). One student closely observed the
symptoms of his brother who had been diagnosed with ADHD. Upon describing these same
symptoms to his doctor, the healthy student received a prescription for Adderall (Talbot 2). Drugs
such as Adderall and Ritalin are amphetamines which the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

Gore Associates Corporate Culture Differentiation
In evaluating Gore Associates corporate culture differentiation, it is clear as to their commitment to
diversity and mutual respect, trust and fairness, employee empowerment, and collaboration.
Likewise, their commitment to mutual respect goes beyond just human capital; it includes a
respect for the environment too. As part of Gore Associates Environmental Responsibility
Statement, they have gone on record with the following; Gore s respect for the environment is a
natural outgrowth of our legacy of responsible innovation. Throughout our history, we ve applied
the principles of sound science to create products that improve the quality of life, including products
that solve difficult environmental problems. (www.gore.com/aboutus

As per their commitment to diversity and mutual respect, Gore Associates have adopted a culture
that welcomes people from a variety of environments and backgrounds, while embracing the view
points that accompany these individuals (www.gore.com/aboutus/diversity, 2011). At a glance, one
could say that Bill Gore may have taken notice as to the historical success of the Xerox
Corporation, and their same commitment to diversity and fairness. In looking back at week two s
use case exercise, and comparing Gore Associates with the Xerox Corporation, we discovered
many similarities. AT Xerox, diversity is more

Happy Dying In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
One of the most clichГ© ways to end any type of artistic work, is with a happy ending. So why
do artists still use them? Some artists use the stereotypical happy ending to make their readers
happy, or to set a moral. But often the most meaningful stories end in a sense of closure, where
not every wrong is righted, but one or two events lead to a point where several, if not all,
characters stabilize their emotions and are able to continue on with their lives. Joseph Conrad, writer
of Heart of Darkness, uses Marlow s lie to Kurtz s fiancee, to give a sense of closure, in order to
carry out major themes.
I heard his very last words... I stopped in a fright.
Repeat them, she murmured in a heart broken tone. I want I want something something to to live
with. ... His last word to live with, she insisted. Don t you understand I loved him I loved him I
loved him.
I pulled myself together and spoke slowly. The last word he pronounced was your name. (Conrad
76 77)
Filling out most of the last two pages in Heart of Darkness this conversation, between Charlie
Marlow and Mr. Kurtz s fiancee, is one of the last complete thoughts that the reader is left with
after reading Heart of Darkness. Taken out of context, this quote is powerful, and obviously any
conversation between a grieving widow and the only man who knew her husband s last words
would be loaded with emotion and pain. But this conversation reaches a new height once it is
revealed that Marlow lied to protect Kurtz s fiancee. Marlow goes on to tell her reaction was one
of triumph and of unspeakable pain (Conrad 77). This whole section in Heart of Darkness, gives
the closure to both Marlow and Kurtz fiancee that Conrad used to continue his themes. Analyzing
this section of text, one notices a large amount of Em dashes, which are typically used in place
of commas to portray more emphasis. Thus Conrad was probably using these marks to show how
distraught the pair are. A second thing that one finds in this section of text is a use of imagery and
examples of darkness vs light that are found across the entire book. All of these literary devices
compound into an air of darkness and uncertainty which are counteracted by Marlow s lie, after
which the Em

The Impact Of Internet On The Field Of Traffic Management
Abstraction
Internet of things is the interconnection of embedded computing elements which can be uniquely
identified and can be accessed from anywhere on this earth, anytime. The interconnection of these
embedded devises is expected to bloom automation in almost all the fields. The future of internet
aims at connecting all the physical things from bicycles to cars to planes, all of these things taking
active participation in the exchange of information about themselves and about their surroundings.
Internet of things will give us access to all the information about a particular thing leading to
different innovative services and increase the efficiency and productivity of the people and
products. This paper studies the Internet of Things, the architecture of Internet of Things, the
elements in Internet of Things and the related technologies, the applications, the current scenario
and the future scope. Also, in details regarding the application of Internet of Things in the field of
traffic management is reviewed in detail.
Introduction:
Today, we have cloud the digital universe of information freely available to us. The current
estimate of the amount of information is 4000 Exabyte in size . A good analogy is 4000 Exabyte
is roughly equivalent to a stack of books from the earth to Pluto and back, 80 times. We only
began to create that less than 20 years ago. Devices like cell phones, iPads allow us to access this
information from anywhere on this earth, anytime.

Dylan turned to his band and screamed, Play it fucking loud! as they exploded into the final

Reflective Essay On Persepolis
Restrictions to closings, and prohibiting things without a strong evidence is against the freedom.
According to Rachael Jolley, editor of the Index on Censorship Magazine, governments show to
their citizens that they are not confident enough to control their behaviors when they start to
control what people should wear, and make it obligatory. Persepolis starts directly after the 1979
Iranian Islamic revolution, which was a consequence of the fall of the rule of the dictator Shah of
Iran. Persepolis as a graphic autobiography by Marjane Satrapi representing her life when she was
young, and up to her grown up years in Iran during, and after the Iranian Islamic revolution.
Throughout the story her father, and mother host different family members that Marjane becomes
emotionally connected to. Also, her family were a modern family, and completely against the
Religious Extremists. Marjane s French school started to separate the students from into two
groups; boys, and girls. And then they started to make the girls wear the veil in her school,
which was obligatory. Satrapi was very successful, and effective in using the images to make it
easy for the readers to understand her point of view about the lack of freedom that happened
during, and after the Iranian Islamic revolution. Freedom is when the person has the ability to
explain their different point of views without being ignored, or rejected for political benefits.
Persepolis for example, in this story there was so many signs

The Scrutiny of Virtue
The Scrutiny of Virtue
Virtue is a mean condition which falls between the extremes of excess and deficiency which are
both subject to vices. Either of those two vices, or the practices of base behaviors, happen to rely
on the virtue that one aims for. For instance, courage is a virtue of which cowardice and rashness
are the deficiency and excess of respectively. Evidence of this is seen in Book II, Chapter 9 of
Nichomachean Ethics where Aristotle mentions ...virtue of character is a mean condition, and in
what way, namely because it is a mean between two kinds of vice, the one resulting from excess and
the other from deficiency... It is important to understand that virtue is not acquired naturally but
rather through being at work. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I began by putting in more of my financial resources by buying necessities such as food and water
for my family on more frequent occasions than I had before as well as the will to spend more
money on my friends as opposed to the past were I would hold back from doing as a generous
person would.
Moreover, it had dawned on me from reflecting on Aristotle s Nichomachean Ethics that I would
have to overshoot the mean (as mentioned above), taking into consideration that I fall under the
deficiency of generosity as frugal, by practicing wastefulness. To put this into practice I started
spending money I don t really have by using my credit cards to spend money by buying gifts for
family members as well as spending money to go out with friends more often than I have been in
the near past. Thus this temporary practicing of wastefulness has led me to believe that I am as
close as I never have been to becoming a generous person in the way Aristotle would describe.
In Plato s Meno, Socrates and Meno do not obtain a definition of virtue, while Socrates thinks
that virtue is a kind of knowledge, and if virtue is knowledge, then it should be able to be both
defined and taught. But most virtuous persons (virtue being some sort of excellence or another)
don t seem to be able to teach virtue to their own children (as told to Meno by Socrates). As a
consequence of this, it is problematic for both Plato and Socrates to

Dishonesty Quotes In The Jungle
In the novel The Jungle you read about of hardships and dishonesty being shown. Some
examples of this would be the food and most of the people there have to fight in order to to
survive and keep a job, you will soon find out how many struggles the family in this novel has to
go through just to get to where they are today. Many of the people in this novelfind it is easier to lie
about what they do or have done because it is easier for them to get by. In the novel you read about
dishonesty, they soon become dishonest because they think it is easier to find a job or meet
other people so that they are not being judged by everyone else around them. By lying they can
get a job and the younger kids in the family are able to get a job to help provide as well. At the
age of five kids began working so if you can not go into work due to being sick or, if you end up
getting fired there is still someone making at least some kind of money. If you were dishonest
you have an easier way of surviving and making it by in life. You survive more because you last
longer working where you are and you are bringing in more money for you and your family to be
able to eat and pay rent. Dishonesty plays many parts such as the laissez faire. Laissez faire is
when the government does not have a say in what businesses can and can not do or say such as
how they treat their employees and their customers. They do this because if their government were

Essay On Stray Dogs In Bangkok

Abstract
Thai Buddhist temple is the most well known spot to surrender stray dogs, since they have a ton of

disconnected streets or even outside somebody s fence.
This is the reason people can see stray dogs at most sanctuaries around Thailand. Since nobody
really care for these animals, some of them have skin infections that make them lose their skin and
they frequently notice awful. Sometimes Buddhist cloisters effectively debilitate individuals from
dumping their unwanted pets at temples, since it s a weight to the resident monk.
Most stray dogs are afraid of people their saw, not just in the temple but stray dogs around

Long Distance Relationships
Does Long Distance Relationship ever Works? A relationship is said to be a connection, as in
thought, concerning or regarding something or someone. Therefore a long distance relationship
(LDR) is similar to a normal relationship but differs in terms of geographic location of the couple;
such location can range from 100 1000 miles, 100 3000 mile apart etc. Any dating or intimate
relationship with so much distance between both parties is no doubt challenging, but that one of the
things that comes along with LDRs relationships. Obviously each challenge has either a positive or
a negative result. Positives such as increased independence, personal growth, more free time, and

Thirdly, phone sex is the most popular of these alternatives and it is about maintaining the
intimacy and sexuality that couples share (Bean 2). It s also an example of dirty talk, but with
some genital touching. As the name suggests, E sex is sex or sexual oriented emails between
couples as there aim is turn on their partner. Though there is little physical intimacy between
LDR couples, there are means and ways couples can share intimacy, intimacy that is scarce in a
LDR. Everything has its ups and downs so too is LDR as they have some positives and negatives.
Some positives of LDRs is that it enables partners to appreciate each other more, and they don t
take their partner for granted; thus developing a stronger connection through non physical
communication (Mietzner 2). The distance equals more free time, increased independence and
personal growth. Since one have so much free time one can pursue any other dreams or goals that
they could not pursue while they were not geographically separated. LDRs allow both parties to be
independent of each other and not be emotionally dependent on each other as they would be if they
were constantly together. This also strengthens the relationship bond, and increases communication
in the relationship; in addition, communication is made easier by the internet, cell phones, calling
cards, and enhanced postal services. Thus there is hope for LDRs. For LDRs to survive they must

from the 16th century to the middle of the 18th: the harpsichord and its near relations, the spinet
and virginal; and the clavichord. In the harpsichord family the string is plucked by a small
plectrum, originally of quill. The variety of sound from these plucked instruments is achieved not
primarily by finger pressure, but more subtly by phrasing and articulation. Variety of tonal color
can be obtained, on a harpsichord by judicious choice of registration. The harpsichord was used
both for solo performance and accompanying in chamber groups and in larger ensembles of the
period. It typically had two sets of strings per key, tuned either to the same pitch or with one set
sounding an octave higher (a 4 register). The registers were controlled by hand stops above the
keyboard. Two manuals (keyboards) were to be found on certain larger instruments, which usually
featured three sets of strings. Found from the beginning of the 16th century, the Italian harpsichords

Flemish instruments were more solidly constructed than the Italian, invariably with the basic two
sets of strings (either one 8 and a 4 or both at 8 pitch). Two manuals were common, though the
upper manual was originally used for transposing; only in the second half of the 17th century was
the additional manual used for contrast of tone with the ability to couple the registers of both
manuals for a fuller sound. The Flemish often painted their instruments, decorative lids and
soundboards being common features. French instruments developed from the Flemish design.
Many so called French harpsichords were in fact Flemish in origin, rebuilt by French makers who

The s Theory Of Internal Morality
Intro
Wishful blindness is a lot more common than pure dishonesty it is when someone knowingly stays
oblivious to dishonesty occurring
Becker s theory (SMORC) is that decisions about dishonesty are based on a cost benefit analysis
An increase of police and punishments won t necessarily decrease dishonesty
SMORC isn t necessarily true because people have internal morality that also governs their
decisions
Taking little by little is much more common than someone taking a huge amount
I know for a fact that I have looked the other way when something dishonest was going on just so
that we could benefit, and at the time my conscience was convincing me that it wasn t cheating. So I
can understand how common wishful blindness really is.
I m certain that I don t weigh the costs and benefits on everything that I do, so I tend to agree with
Ariely s theory of internal morality being more plausible than SMORC
Something that I thought of about the stealing bit by bit part was the whole idea of pyramid
schemes, where you take little by little from certain people and make huge amounts of profit while
doing so.
Chapter 1
Does a study on how students cheat using the matrix experiment
Finds that many cheat by a little but few cheat by a lot
When more money got involved the amount of cheating dropped (internal morality)
When people were less likely to be caught the level of cheating remained the same
The thought of getting caught doesn t really affect when someone might cheat

Symbolic Cages
Another example of symbolism was cage. The female characters are dominate in this play. As
the all women were gathering some of Mrs. Wright s things they discovered a bird cage with a
broken door and with no bird. Mrs. Peters looked confused after looking over the cage and she state
that, why, look at this door. It s broke. One hinge is pulled a part (Glaspell pg7). The cage
represents to how Mrs. Wright was trapped over her marriage, and could not getaway it. The cage
door was broken which shows her broken marriage to Mr. Wright. Furthermore, it also represents
Mrs. Wright escaping her marriage from Mr. Wright. When the door was open it permits Mrs.

Materiality In English Literature
Medieval Things: Materiality, Objects, and Literary Practice
In this seminar we will study critical works of medieval English literature along current theoretical
writing that shares an interest in things and objects. Since the 1980s, the humanities and social
sciences have developed new approaches of thinking about materiality. Early work in material
culture targeted at the social productivity of objects created by humans. However, essential
approaches often grouped beneath the time period new materialist have questioned this human
focused angle, suggesting rather that the human beings and things are essentially distinctive in a
particular modern concept. Philosopher and historian Bruno Latour, argued that the line between
humans and natural phenomena the line between object and subject was more permeable prior to
the seventeenth century. Our seminar will dive into this claim, analyzing English medieval
literature and philosophy. The readings will include texts written by Bill Brown, Jane Bennet,
Gilles Deleuze, Sara Ahmed and Manuel De Landa; and medieval literature by William Langland
(Piers Plowman), Geoffrey Chaucer (dream visions and some of the Canterbury Tales), Marie de
France (short romances called Lays), Julian of Norwich (A Revelation of Love), Thomas Malory

Children and Teens Know Right from Wrong
Do you believe that children know right from wrong the moment they start to lie? I do, because
the moment they don t listen to you or do something wrong knowing it is wrong but they do it
anyway, that s when they know right from wrong. Two to thirteen year olds are a prime example.
But the biggest example is teenagers. Teenagers do crazy stuff that can get them in trouble just to
be cool. That s mostly why we have so many teens going to jail. Many teens shoplift in the
presence of friends out of a desire to impress others, as oftentimes the teens that engage in the
riskiest behaviors are the most popular with peers. (Lisa Medoff; When Teenagers Steal). Teens

The desire to fit in with peers can be a very strong influence on teens. There are two different
types of peer pressure. Negative peer pressure is when teens feel pressured to do something they
know is wrong. Positive peer pressure is when your friends push you to do something that is
good and helpful to others. Negative peer pressure can lead to, smoking, drinking, doing drugs,
or stealing, or doing something you don t want to do such as cutting class or having sex.
(Unknown; Positive and Negative Peer Pressure). Teens may be tempted to give in to negative
peer pressure because they want to be liked or fit in. They may also do it because they are afraid
of being made fun of, or they want to try something other teens are doing. Positive peer pressure
is everybody s favorite. It shows how friends can help each other do great things. Good friends
are a great example. They can encourage teens to do well in school, get involved in positive
activities, volunteer, eat healthy foods, and avoid drugs, alcohol, and other risky activities.
(Unknown; Peer Pressure). Good Friends or best friends can also help teens learn good social
skills and better ways to communicate and work out problems, and give teens good advice. I
think peer pressure plays an important role in a young teen s life. Sometimes it basically controls
their life. It can also help with lying or doing

played a big part in the reading because it draws attention to the way that the whites, which were
the higher class, were treated and how they had better chances of success in life than blacks,
which were the lower or working class. Growing up the white children were sent off to the best
schools setting them in the path of prosperity while the black children had little to no school and

The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting
ARTICLE 1
Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685
708
The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare s time has been there for a long time. As
early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What
was the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people
into two schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early
days were characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan
acting was formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and
naturalism.
However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to
look at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether
acting is formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their
presentation never changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one
audience but the same could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the
other. Alfred Harbage wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the
two could have been present in the Elizabethan period.
He argues that Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the
actor who remains in character and tends

The Lives Of Galileo And Kepler s Inventions
In ancient Greek there are a few main famous people that are remembered. They are Galileo,
Newton, and Kepler. These men were very intelligent and creative and like to think outside the box
when it comes to math, science, and astronomy. All three men were in a way connect to another
through their works. Let s take a deeper look into the lives of these three men.
We can start with Galileo an Italian astronomer. He is known for a few things such as the
Copernican theory which basically is the theory that supports sun centered solar system. Also
Galileo became interested in astronomy, and after he did he built the first telescope back in 1609.

The last is Newton from England astronomer. He came up with the three laws of motion not to
confuse them with Kepler s three laws of planetary motion. Newton s three laws were one every
object in motion stays in motion until acted upon by force, the second is force equals mass
times acceleration, and the third is to every action there is an opposite reaction. He also wrote
gradational theory with the help of Kepler s previous work. He became inspired by the sight of
seeing a falling apple. This got him curious and wanted to know more. He also was known for the
first reflecting telescope, which allowed him to play around with the colors and prism that came
from the spectrum to see. Though he may not have had tons of contributing he did have major
findings and that is what made him famous.
It seems like throughout history that these three men eventually helped each other out from what
they discovered. Since they were in the same field and had

important to Elvis. While Elvis knew that the music industry had tremendous respect for his talent,

Conflict happens in any working relationship and it should not be avoided or ignored. Diversity is

observers to conflict among partners (Fox, 2015). Your decisions are essentially to turn away or

In my second research article by Heathfield (2016), she provides actions that should be avoided
when trying to resolve conflicts. She also provides ways to mediate and resolve conflict.
According to Heathfield (2016) these are the things to avoid when resolving conflict: Do not avoid
the conflict , Do not meet separately with people in conflict , and Do not believe, for even a
moment, the only people who are affected by the conflict are the participants.
In mediating and resolving conflict:
Meet with the participants together Let each quickly compress their perspective, without remark or

gatherings are clear about the difference and clashing perspectives (Heathfield, 2016). Intercede if
either worker assaults the other representative (Heathfield, 2010. This is not satisfactory

Forced Vital Capacity Case Study
Purpose and Prediction In this study I am observing the effects of gender on forced vital
capacity (FVC) and the relationship between torso length, height, and torso/height ratio on
forced vital capacity. To look at FVC I am interested in looking at the largest amount of air a
person can forcefully exhale and continue exhaling for 6 seconds after breathing in as deeply as
a person can. If gender has an effect on FVC then males will have a greater FVC than the FVC
of females. If there is a correlation between height and FVC, then as height increases so will FVC.

Based on the jawbone s shape, scientists were confident that it belonged to an adult male polar
bear. The rock layers in which it was embedded, along with other dating techniques, suggest that

The current state of the Texas education policy is very complex and its roots can be traced all

that began to be reformed heavily starting in 1954. The legislations that passed to resolve this

Seat Belt Laws Essay
Since the implementation of mandatory seat belt laws studies have shown that seat belt usage has
increased while traffic fatalities have decreased. Seat belt usage rates increased from 17% to 79%
in the U.S. between 1983 and 2003 (Houston Richardson, 2006). All U.S. states except New
Hampshire have mandatory seat beltlaws for adults. Currently, there are two types of seat belt
enforcement, primary and secondary. To date, 34 states have a primary enforcement law which
allows a police officer to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicleand issue a citation for no other reason
than the fact that the driver is not wearing a seat belt. A benefit to a state having a primary
enforcement law is that in 2016 seat belt usage was up 92% according to the CDC (2017).
A secondary seat belt enforcement law requires a police officer to have a separate traffic
infraction, such as speeding, before being allowed to cite a driver for not wearing a seat belt.
There are 15 states which currently operate under a secondary seat belt law. According to
research provided by the CDC, states with secondary seat belt enforcement action had an increase

HM like Cd appears to be a known and one of the main targets to cytoskeleton microtubule (MT).Cd
at the concentrations of 85ОјM 170ОјM distort the structure and functioning of the MT
cytoskeleton in the root cells of soybean plants (Gzyl et al., 2015).The root growth in soybean
was thus diminished accompanied by a reduction in mitotic activity and disturbed MT arrays
structure which also includes randomization in the arrangement of the cortical MT, distorted
mitotic arrays and completed depolymerisation of the MTs.They also reported that Cd had
significant impact on gene expression levels and subsequently on post translational modification
of tubulin unit, which is responsible for impairment of MT cytoskeleton s structure and
functioning in root cells of soybean plants. 3.2 Effects on the form of chromosomes The
genomic toxicity of HMs in plants severely affects the process of DNA replication and
chromosomes as well as inducing chromosomal aberrations and abnormalities (Niture et al.,

chromosomal fragmentation, aberration and liquefaction as a result of Cd interference with
nucleic acids (Qin et al., 2015).Aslam et al., 2014 by using technique Random amplified

Symbolism In The Knife Of Never Letting Go
In the novel, The Knife of Never Letting Go, by Patrick Ness, Viola represents the exploration
of the unknown. A piece of evidence that concludes that Viola does indeed represent the
exploration of the unknown is on page 68 and 69 when Todd and Viola first meet. The reason
why this shows that Viola represents what she does is because Todd had never seen a girl in real
life, believing they were all killed, yet a girl stood right before him. This was the triggering event
that caused many other things to happen throughout the story, and is why Viola represents the
exploration of the unknown. Viola is also a round and dynamic character, also being one of the
protagonists. Being both a round and dynamic character, she is affected by different events

The Rise Of Professionalism In The Workplace
The professionalization of a nonprofit staff can lead to a better more resourceful organization and
this can in the end lead to a more efficient atmosphere. In turn this means more money for the
organization and better networking opportunities. However, this professionalization requires
training and advanced education (Hwang). Although, professionalism in this sector is becoming
more widely accepted and with enactment of the Tax Reform Act of 1969, that indisputably
encouraged professionalism, professionalism has been on the rise (Hwang). The earliest acts that
show a trend toward professionalism, is the building of the Rockefeller Center and the foundation
that made that dream a reality. Andrew Carnegie was well educated himself and he made

Visual Analysis Of The Nongfu Spring Water Bottle
1.Visual Analysis
The Nongfu Spring Water bottle is a cylindrical object standing just under the length of a forearm.
The bottle itself is made out of plastic and is vertically symmetric, but not horizontally, since the
upper most part has a funnel shape to accommodate the cap.The bottle is wrapped around by a
plastic sheet that is centered slightly upwards and covers about two thirds of the cylindrical surface.
The design and composition of plastic wrapping is unique. It contains different elements
positioned in harmony with one another, but none in direct interaction. The most prominent
drawing on the bottle is a side profile of a lynx in a yellow and blue shirt, inside a blue, oxford
boot style ice skate, with its red scarf blowing to the left side, as if to show the idea of a wind.
On the top left corner, a fox appears to be sitting on sled, and on the bottom right corner, a mouse
seems to be playing a violin. Additionally, there are some drawing of leafless winter trees, and a
faint drawing of some mountains in the far back. The general theme that seems to be connecting
these elements is nature and winter, but with some clear human world references, like the clothing

This bottle juxtaposes elements of nature, like trees, animals, winter and mountains, with human
elements like clothing and instruments. The choice, however, to portray animals as being the ones
taking up human customs, and not the other way around, is intriguing. While it makes for a
visually pleasing image, the design highlights the expectation of animals and nature to adapt, and to
some extent adopt, human behaviours and beliefs. If the goal of the design is to sell the water
bottle, it makes sense to associate it with nature, since that is where fresh and cold water is found.
But whether humanizing nature is mere marketing strategy or a genuine attempt to remind us of
where our resources come from, is

The First Transition Era ( Thomas Edison s Motion Picture...
From the early invention of Thomas Edison s motion picture camera, to the blending of sound
with pictures and to now day s big budget movies; Films have been evolving throughout the 20th
century. The main reason for the alteration was due to the rapid advancement in technology. One
of the key factors that shapes how we perceive a movie, is its sound. Just by changing the tempo
and the volume of score, a filmmaker can make viewers have better interpretation of the movie.
Through the course of time, music has been important in movies, even in silent films. Then, in the
late 1920 s, the arrival of synchronized sound changed how movies were made forever. After the
memorable transition era (1930 1950), arose the Post Studio Era (1950 1980) were... Show more

Due to not having the technology to sync video with dialogue sound together, the music played a
significant role in expressing the sailors; in the other words the sound of the film carried the story
of the movie. The score of the film caught the audience attention by its loud and aggressive sound.
(in the title scene, we hear loud marching sound). and the angry emotions of the sailors was
portrayed.) There was a lot of use of percussion instruments which created stress and tension to the
silent movie. Battleship Potemkin had a massacre scene which was called Odessa steps, where
innocent mothers and children were getting killed by the Russian soldiers; that scene had bold
percussion sound which came from the bass drums. Throughout the movie, the sound followed the
actions of the characters effectively. In battleship Potemkin Emotions of the characters like anger
and displeasure were expressed by the orchestral music. For example, in these scene (in the
morning scene, we see the displeasure that the sailors were feeling.) There was a change of sound
when a character alters their emotion or feeling. Even though, the sound of Battleship Potemkin
didn t have a dialogue, the movie still managed to create an ominous feeling by using loud live
music and effects. Silent film is a milestone in the evolution of film music.

Number Ten: The Way by Fastball
The Way is a song by Fastball, off of their 1998 album, All the Pain Money Can Buy. The song is
about an elderly married couple who leaves home and hit the road, until their vehicle breaks down
and they continue their journey on foot. Supposedly the inspiration for the lyrics came from the
true story of an older couple from Texas who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Said David Byrne of the song, I wanted to write a song that presented a resigned, even joyful look
at doom... Nonetheless, many consider this an upbeat track with the theme of being lost with no
destination as a positive thing. The song opens with a choir, before breaking into the beat, with the
following lyrics: We re on a road to nowhere / come on inside / takin that ride to nowhere / we ll
take that ride / I m feeling okay this mornin / and you know / we re on the road to paradise / here
we go, here we go. This is followed by, maybe you wonder where you are / I don t care / here is
where time is on our side / take you there and there s a city in my mind / come along and take that
ride / and it s all right / and it s very far away / but it s growing day by day / and it s all right. The
last lines are somewhat interesting in context: They can tell you what to do / but they ll make a
fool of you. Whatever your take on what this song s about, you can t deny its infectious melody.
This is a great road trip song, whether you re driving alone or with

in absolute amount of operating expenses. Secondly, another component of income statement,
which requires proper consideration, is the expenses of bad debts and provisions for nonperforming

Essay On Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
Novels usually tend to have a life lesson that the author has learned. The reader might have to
analyze the story to a deeper thought to find the literary devices used. The Lord of the Flies is all
about the origin of human characteristics, whether humanity is considered morally good or initially
evil, without laws or authority. The conch is one object that shows the theme of humanity. The
symbolism of the conch changes throughout the book. The symbolism of the conch is order,
democracy, social order, respect, and powerat the beginning of the book. At the end of the novel,
the conch loses its power and portrays savagery and barbarism. At the same time as the conch
loses its power and symbolism, Simon gets killed by the savagery of the boys. Piggy and the
conch gets crushed. The destruction of the conch symbolizes the destruction of what little
civilization the boys possessed. In the Lord of the Flies, there are specific symbols that reinforce...

Even Jack respects the conch. After he fails to stage a coup, he laid the conch with great care in
the grass at his feet (127). He doesn t throw it or smash it; he sets it down carefully. He respects the
authority of the conch, but disagrees the authority of the Ralph. Golding also reminds us that the
conch is a tool of government and authority, but it is also just an object that can be easily
manipulated and destroyed. That event is the pivot point where the symbolism of the conch
differences. The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a
thousand white fragments and ceased to exist (181). Piggy was the voice of reason, the basis for
modern systems of government; and he has now been removed. The power of the conch shifts to
such a great degree, that the conch is removed When he and the conch is removed, there is no sign
of civilization. altogether. When the conch loses its government authority, anarchy and savagery

How Did The Stock Market Crash That Led Up To The Great...
People began buying things such as cars and appliances on credit. Many people earned less money
than needed to live a comfortable lifestyle. Businesses were letting people with lower incomes buy
things on credit. Unfortunately the stocks rose faster than the value of the companies they
represented. When the stock marketcollapsed, these people did not have the money to pay back
what they owed. This resulted in financial ruin. Before the stock market crash investors traded
about sixteen million shares on the New York stock exchange each day. After Black Tuesday ,
billions of dollars were lost wiping out thousands of investors. Had most of those investors sold
their stock the day before the crash, they would have received a large profit. The 1929 crash
uncovered another problem in the United States. The nations banking system was in trouble. In
the 1920 s thousands of new banks were opened, however, most lacked adequate money in
reserves. Between 1923 and 1929, banks across the country failed daily, but the general rising
prosperity hid these failures. The crash made a bad situation even worse, and banks failed at a
more rapid rate.

William Kamkwamba Essay
According to the Ted talks, William Kamkwamba was born in Malawi, South East Africa. He
had 6 sisters and was the only boy besides his dad in his family. William s father was a farmer in
his village, and his family depended on the rain to water the plants so they could harvest and eat
them. William lived in a small house with no electricity and no water. His sisters had to walk to
the nearest water source and then carry it back to their home just so they could have water. Once
William was old enough he went to school. He enjoyed school and was fascinated how things
work. At school William usually had a banana for lunch and other kids wanted to take it, but
William refused. William ignored them and did not listen to other people trying to command him.
In 2001, the rain stopped and there was no crops, which means less food (TedTalk). William by

  • 2. The Lincoln Electric Company Essay The Lincoln Electric Company was founded in 1895 by John C. Lincoln, who then partnered with his younger brother James in 1907. The focus of the company originally was manufacturing electric motors, which then expanded to include battery chargers and in the early 1900 s to portable welding machines. (Lincoln Electric, 2016) The company was founded originally on a construct of Christian values, which may have played a role in creating the dominant culture of the corporation. (Sharplin) This paper presents an evaluative analysis of the business case study presented by Arthur Sharplin, with a focus on determining the overall corporate culture of Lincoln Electric categorically. John and James Lincoln professed to be devout Christians and embodied their faith in their treatment of their employees early on in the company. While a clear hierarchy and protection of management control was evident in their organizational structure, they ensured that employees had regular access to the management team both formally and informally. Management roles may have been protected and controlled but they were seen strictly as tasks to perform just as every other employee was assigned their tasks. In this respect the workplace was and remains designed strictly around function, no perks exist for management that do not exist for every employee. (Sharplin) This example points to the importance of a people oriented culture in the workplace and is almost egalitarian in nature. (Flat World Knowledge, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Valley Fold Studios Marketing Mix In our major project, we in Valley Fold Studios will be creating a puzzle game for touchscreen devices, where the player manipulates paper like structures into origami in three dimensional space. Our goal is to create a well polished product that can be released to the public, primarily as something we can be proud of and use to promote ourselves, as well as to potentially create something that we can sell. The target market that we expect our game to appeal to is mobile gamers in general. We are targeting the wide age range that is represented in mobile gaming with the median age being 27. We expect that our game will be gender neutral, appealing mostly to a teenage and older audience as the puzzles will require calm thinking to complete. We intend for the game to be playable in short sessions, with easy to learn mechanics and simple yet involving puzzles, giving the game a pick up and play nature that can be played while commuting or anywhere that the player has a few minutes of time to spare. We intend to publish the game on one of, or both Google Play, and the Apple app store. Publishing to android will most likely be an easier process as apple will require us to wait about six days or more for the game to be reviewed, and there are 180 guidelines that the app must follow, however ... At the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, suppose an athlete had been found using steroids or other performance enhancing drugs to ensure a better outcome in competition. Perfectly healthy individuals are turning to these so called neuroenhancers (Talbot 3) or smart pills (qtd. Cheshire 264) to improve their mental abilities. According to research led by Sean Esteban McCabe, a professor at the University of Michigan s Substance Abuse Research Center, the individuals most likely to take neuroenhancers in college were white male undergraduates at highly competitive schools especially in the Northeast (Talbot 3). The appeal of these drugs seems to lie in the fact that they target subjective symptoms (Cheshire 264) in healthy people instead of a disease. Neuroenhancers are looked to as a way to quickly improve a person s mental capabilities in order to perform better at tasks in a limited amount of time. Another reason for the increasing rise in the use of neuroenhancers is that these drugs are readily available. Often classmates have seen their peers with ADHD take these pills. In college, it is an easy matter of borrowing some from a friend with ADHD who has a ready supply through a prescription or they buy them from a supplier (Talbot 3). One student closely observed the symptoms of his brother who had been diagnosed with ADHD. Upon describing these same symptoms to his doctor, the healthy student received a prescription for Adderall (Talbot 2). • 9. Happy Dying In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness One of the most clichГ© ways to end any type of artistic work, is with a happy ending. So why do artists still use them? Some artists use the stereotypical happy ending to make their readers happy, or to set a moral. But often the most meaningful stories end in a sense of closure, where not every wrong is righted, but one or two events lead to a point where several, if not all, characters stabilize their emotions and are able to continue on with their lives. Joseph Conrad, writer of Heart of Darkness, uses Marlow s lie to Kurtz s fiancee, to give a sense of closure, in order to carry out major themes. I heard his very last words... I stopped in a fright. Repeat them, she murmured in a heart broken tone. I want I want something something to to live with. ... His last word to live with, she insisted. Don t you understand I loved him I loved him I loved him. I pulled myself together and spoke slowly. The last word he pronounced was your name. (Conrad 76 77) Filling out most of the last two pages in Heart of Darkness this conversation, between Charlie Marlow and Mr. Kurtz s fiancee, is one of the last complete thoughts that the reader is left with after reading Heart of Darkness. Taken out of context, this quote is powerful, and obviously any conversation between a grieving widow and the only man who knew her husband s last words would be loaded with emotion and pain. But this conversation reaches a new height once it is revealed that Marlow lied to protect Kurtz s fiancee. Marlow goes on to tell her reaction was one of triumph and of unspeakable pain (Conrad 77). This whole section in Heart of Darkness, gives the closure to both Marlow and Kurtz fiancee that Conrad used to continue his themes. Analyzing this section of text, one notices a large amount of Em dashes, which are typically used in place of commas to portray more emphasis. Thus Conrad was probably using these marks to show how distraught the pair are. A second thing that one finds in this section of text is a use of imagery and examples of darkness vs light that are found across the entire book. All of these literary devices compound into an air of darkness and uncertainty which are counteracted by Marlow s lie, after which the Em ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So I decided to run for it, if I made it, terrific. If not at least I would be able to say I tried. The way my mom has always taught me to keep trying no matter how many obstacles you have in front of you, to keep trying because there s so much more satisfaction in that in the end than, just giving up because you were scared or had let the negative lies take over you. The tour became a confrontation between Dylan and his audience, especially during one of his concerts at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in England on May 17, 1966. A recording of this concert was released in 1998: The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Bob Dylan Live 1966. Near the end of the concert, and during the the climax of the evening, a member of the audience, who was apparently angered by Dylan s electric backing, shouted directly to Bob: Judas! to which Dylan quickly responded, I don t believe you ... During this tour, Dylan was described as exhausted and acting as if on a death trip . The film maker D. A. • 14. Reflective Essay On Persepolis Restrictions to closings, and prohibiting things without a strong evidence is against the freedom. According to Rachael Jolley, editor of the Index on Censorship Magazine, governments show to their citizens that they are not confident enough to control their behaviors when they start to control what people should wear, and make it obligatory. Persepolis starts directly after the 1979 Iranian Islamic revolution, which was a consequence of the fall of the rule of the dictator Shah of Iran. Persepolis as a graphic autobiography by Marjane Satrapi representing her life when she was young, and up to her grown up years in Iran during, and after the Iranian Islamic revolution. Throughout the story her father, and mother host different family members that Marjane becomes emotionally connected to. Also, her family were a modern family, and completely against the Religious Extremists. Marjane s French school started to separate the students from into two groups; boys, and girls. • 15. The Scrutiny of Virtue The Scrutiny of Virtue Virtue is a mean condition which falls between the extremes of excess and deficiency which are both subject to vices. Either of those two vices, or the practices of base behaviors, happen to rely on the virtue that one aims for. For instance, courage is a virtue of which cowardice and rashness are the deficiency and excess of respectively. Evidence of this is seen in Book II, Chapter 9 of Nichomachean Ethics where Aristotle mentions ...virtue of character is a mean condition, and in what way, namely because it is a mean between two kinds of vice, the one resulting from excess and the other from deficiency... Moreover, it had dawned on me from reflecting on Aristotle s Nichomachean Ethics that I would have to overshoot the mean (as mentioned above), taking into consideration that I fall under the deficiency of generosity as frugal, by practicing wastefulness. To put this into practice I started spending money I don t really have by using my credit cards to spend money by buying gifts for family members as well as spending money to go out with friends more often than I have been in the near past. Thus this temporary practicing of wastefulness has led me to believe that I am as close as I never have been to becoming a generous person in the way Aristotle would describe. In Plato s Meno, Socrates and Meno do not obtain a definition of virtue, while Socrates thinks that virtue is a kind of knowledge, and if virtue is knowledge, then it should be able to be both defined and taught. But most virtuous persons (virtue being some sort of excellence or another) don t seem to be able to teach virtue to their own children (as told to Meno by Socrates). Italian Piano Research Paper Two types of stringed keyboard instrument were available to the household or court musician from the 16th century to the middle of the 18th: the harpsichord and its near relations, the spinet and virginal; and the clavichord. In the harpsichord family the string is plucked by a small plectrum, originally of quill. The variety of sound from these plucked instruments is achieved not primarily by finger pressure, but more subtly by phrasing and articulation. Variety of tonal color can be obtained, on a harpsichord by judicious choice of registration. The harpsichord was used both for solo performance and accompanying in chamber groups and in larger ensembles of the period. It typically had two sets of strings per key, tuned either to the same pitch or with one set sounding an octave higher (a 4 register). The registers were controlled by hand stops above the keyboard. • 26. The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting ARTICLE 1 Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685 708 The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare s time has been there for a long time. As early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What was the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people into two schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early days were characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan acting was formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and naturalism. However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to look at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether acting is formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their presentation never changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one audience but the same could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the other. Alfred Harbage wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the two could have been present in the Elizabethan period. He argues that Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the actor who remains in character and tends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Seat belt usage rates increased from 17% to 79% in the U.S. between 1983 and 2003 (Houston Richardson, 2006). All U.S. states except New Hampshire have mandatory seat beltlaws for adults. Currently, there are two types of seat belt enforcement, primary and secondary. To date, 34 states have a primary enforcement law which allows a police officer to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicleand issue a citation for no other reason than the fact that the driver is not wearing a seat belt. A benefit to a state having a primary enforcement law is that in 2016 seat belt usage was up 92% according to the CDC (2017). A secondary seat belt enforcement law requires a police officer to have a separate traffic infraction, such as speeding, before being allowed to cite a driver for not wearing a seat belt. There are 15 states which currently operate under a secondary seat belt law.
