Crafting an essay on the proverb "A stitch in time saves nine" presents its own set of challenges.
While the proverb itself is concise and meaningful, expanding on its significance and weaving a
coherent narrative around it can be a daunting task. The difficulty lies in striking the right balance
between providing a comprehensive understanding of the proverb and avoiding unnecessary
verbosity.
To begin with, one must delve into the origins and history of the saying, exploring its cultural
and linguistic roots. This necessitates meticulous research to grasp the nuances and variations of
the proverb across different cultures and time periods. Furthermore, linking the historical context
to contemporary situations requires a keen understanding of the proverb's timeless relevance.
The complexity deepens when attempting to incorporate real-life examples and anecdotes that
exemplify the essence of the proverb. Striking the right chord between relatability and
universality is crucial, as the essay should resonate with a diverse audience. Additionally, finding
a seamless flow that transitions from the introduction to the body and then to the conclusion
poses its own set of challenges. Each paragraph needs to be interconnected, contributing to the
overall coherence of the essay.
Moreover, the challenge lies in avoiding clichГ©s and platitudes while still conveying the
essence of the proverb effectively. Developing a unique perspective and offering fresh insights
on the timeless wisdom encapsulated in "A stitch in time saves nine" is no easy feat. It requires
creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to present a nuanced argument that captivates the
reader's attention.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic is undeniably intricate, demanding a delicate balance
between historical context, relatable examples, and a unique perspective. Nevertheless,
overcoming these challenges can result in a piece that not only educates but also engages the
reader. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or other writing tasks, various resources

Criminal Issues In The Criminal Justice System
Throughout history, there has been only a handful of crimes and criminal issues that
reached the span of not just a city, state or country but the entire world. These
criminal issues include crimes like drug trafficking, human trafficking, and terrorist
attacks. Interestingly, the fundamental reasoning behind these types of crimesvaries
greatly. For example, some of these crimes are motivated immensely by money,
greed, and power (power over people, government, and politics etc.) However, their
motives stem from things like the offender s political ideology, religion, and at times,
traditions. These types of crimes affect numerous aspects of the criminal justice
systems around the world such as the way we prosecute, detain and interrogate
suspects.

The State Of Public Schools Essay
In Kansas, the dispute between the branches for power began when the judiciary
noticed the disparity in the funding of Kansas school education. The Kansas
judiciary came to the conclusion that the disparity in funding was a violation of
Kansas constitution. In an effort to fix this, the Kansas judiciary ordered the
legislative to make a solution. However, rather than addressing the school funding
issue, the Kansas legislative branch passed a law that removed the Supreme Courts
right to appoint local chief judges and the ability to set district court budgets. Then,
the Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, who is in the executive branch, signed a law
that would remove the funding of the judicial branch if the Kansas Supreme Court
ruled against him in the court case concerning the funding of public schools. The
actions of both the legislative and executive branch of Kansas government disregard
the system of checks and balances because the judicial branch is being punished for
doing their job. Therefore, judicial reviewis vital for a judge in maintaining a
consistent balance of power in the government.
In 1789, the Constitution of the United States of America was created and serves as
the law of the land. In the Constitution, there was an establishment of the different
branches of government: the legislative, executive, and the judiciary. In each branch,
there are jurisdictional rights that is given and serves as a guideline for the branches
to adhere to. For the judicial
Cinematography In Into The Wild
Into the wild Blog
Into the Wild is a film directed in 2007 by the controversial film writer and actor
Sean Penn. It is based upon Jon Krakauer s non fiction book Into the wild . The film
follows the idealist Christopher McCandless on his journey to find peace and
happiness. Some people might argue that McCandless was a reckless narcissist who
brought great sorrow to his family and troubled the law enforcers. I am no
professional analysist, but I think that McCandless was perceived as a noble but
misguided idealist. Film techniques such as cinematography, mise en scene, and
lighting used throughout the film support my judgement of McCandless.
Cinematography plays a huge part in portraying McCandless s journey. In the film, a
variety of camera shots are used to describe the setting and emotions of scenes.

To put it simply, McCandless wanted peace, ultimate freedom, happiness, and most
importantly, a sense of adventure. He thought his materialistic parents and the corrupt
society were preventing him from satisfying those desires, thus, he departed into the
wild. This of course, was not a practical decision. Cinematography is used to show
these emotions in scenes throughout the film. At the beginning scenes of the film,
McCandless is shown riding on a train with close up shots of the side of the trains
which show McCandless s made up name Alexander Supertramp written in chalk.
The next few scenes show medium shots of moving trucks. The train scene
featuring close up shots of McCandless s name implying that he is free to be
himself freedom. The moving train create a sense of adventure and the use of
trucks create a feeling of progress and change. Close up shots of McCandless are
used at the time of his death. These shots show a distressed McCandless who realises
his ideals would lead to his death. Close ups are also used to show his diary entries
Big Data Management And Management Of Huge Volumes

3. Big Data Management
Big Data Management (BDM) is the governance and management of huge volumes of
all types of data. Big data management is the huge change to technology that will help
to make a better society and the industrial sector. The integration, manipulation,
quality and governance are the things that big data management has to deal with and
management of Big Data including the key factors Volume, Velocity and Variety of
Big Data. Big data is all about size of data. Big data is very large databases. So these
ample amount of data needs to be managed in order to use this data at any time. This
is known as Big Data Management (BDM). Big Data management is around two
things big information and information management. Big Data Management serves
as the essential step for overseeing and administrating huge amount of information
called as Big Data in the organizations.
The security of data is another huge concern of Big Data Management which is
expanding with the increase in Big Data. Big Data Management is not only
restricted to storage of ample data. It also offers data security and integrity. This
gets to be the greatest preference of Big Data Management which makes the
associations to adopt BDM and also to create new technique for managing Big Data.
Precision of data is guaranteed in this way. Otherwise it would be troublesome for
the enterprises to tackle with the beast of Big Data.
Management of Big Data does not only cover the area of managing Big Data. It also

from a specialized producer of niche equipment to a Wall Street champion in 2007.
Since that time, the company has diminished into a relative has been according to
many analysts. For example, in late 2007 the Garmin stock price reached a record

mild recovery from the fifty two week low. This analysis looks into the financial
aspect of Garmin and draws parallels to the overall trends in the industry. Although
the company could have managed some aspects of the business better, the fall of
Garmin s financial attractiveness cannot be entirely attributed to the company itself.

The Trojans And The Greeks
This was basically a conflict going on with the two kingdoms many years ago, The
Trojans and the Greek. They ve been at war for a pretty long time. Why you ask?
Well the Trojans captured the Greek Princess named Helen in their city of Troy.
Anyways the Greeks been trying to find a way to defeat the Trojan kingdom and
get the Princess back. The Greeks camped on a beach near the city hoping to get in
but, they failed after days, weeks, and months to get inside of the big strong walls
on the Trojan kingdom. It was impossible. They then began to stop trying to defeat
them with their physical strength, but with their brains. A very brave Greek soldier
named Odysseus had a smart idea. It was to build and hide in a giant horse and once

How Does Al Pacino Use Rhetorical Strategies In Any
Given...
In sports, there are many motivational speeches told to a player or team to reach an
ultimate goal. In the movie Any Given Sunday, Al Pacino plays Tony D Amato, the
head coach of the Miami Sharks, a fictitious professional football team. Al Pacino
faces much adversity throughout the movie and by the end, he must bring his team
together before the biggest battle of [their] professional lives. In the locker room
before their game, Al Pacino gives his team a speech that gives them the motivation
to fight and win. Al Pacino uses a continuous analogy as his most successful
rhetorical strategy. He compares football to life and talks about how both are a game
of inches. This extended metaphor helps the players see how important this game is
and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Al Pacino motivates his team by saying in any fight it is the guy who is willing to
die who is going to win that inch and convinces the players to give everything they
can in this game. He also says, Now I can t do it for you and I can t make you do it
to hopefully ignite an independent feeling in the players to play their best and
guide them to rely on their teammates instead of him. Later he says, look at the guy
next to you... I think you are going to see a guy who will go that inch with you to
bring his team together and build each player s confidence in one another. He uses
strong words like fight, tear, claw, and sacrifice to help the team prepare for their
battle and visualize what it is going to take to win. Pacino succeeds in inspiring
and uniting his team with his speech. Throughout the speech, the players cheer and
exclaim in agreement and support, but by the last sentence, the players are
standing, jumping, and yelling because they are now hyped up for the game. His
speech also appeals to ethos because he admits to faults and makes himself
relatable. He begins by saying, I don t know what to say really and reveals that he
does not have an elaborate speech memorized and that he is going to speak from
his heart. Later he says, I m too old... I made every wrong decision a middle aged
man could make to show that he is only human and that if the players make a
mistake, to not be discouraged because
Romeo And Juliet Death
Romeo and Juliet is a love story told throughout the ages.It tells the story of a love
story that ends with fateful death. Though it only lasts four days, it has been
remembered for hundreds of years. But, who was responsible for the deaths of the
two lovers? Who ended the most well known love story of all time? Was is the
parents of the families, or maybe the Friar who allowed them to get married?
There are three points of their deaths: the foreshadowing, how it happened, and
who was responsible. So, how did the fateful end of Romeo and Juliet come to be,
and how did they actually happen? We know that everything started on that fateful
night , but how did things go south so fast? In quick summary, Romeo and Juliet
meet at a party, but can t be together because their families are sworn enemies. But,
they meet together, fall in love, and get secretly married by Friar Lawrence all in
three days. But trouble arises when Romeo is exiled for killing Tybalt and Juliet is
set to marry Paris, even though she is already is to Romeo. So, she decides she
would rather die than be subjected to marry Paris. So, she asks Friar Lawrence for
something to help her, in which he gives her a potion that will make it seem as if
she is dead, so she will be put in a tomb where she will later awake. Romeo is
supposed to know that she isn t truly dead, but the letter fails to reach him. So, he
buys a poison and rushes to her tomb to say farewell. After killing himself, Juliet
wakes up to find
U.s. Congressional Presidential System
Midterm 1
The U.S. system is a Congressional/Presidential design (not parliamentary), with
district based voting (not party list and proportional), with elections that are
historically candidate centered (as opposed to party centered), and a resulting
Congress where power is often, but not always, concentrated in committees (not party
leadership).
The comparison of the U.S. Congressional/Presidential system to parliamentarian
system can be traced back to Woodrow Wilsons Congressional Government, where he
viewed the British system as perfected party government system.
The United States Congressional/Presidential system has Congress as the central
power and is referred to as a singular form of governance with its own particular
characteristics, whereas the parliamentarian system is governed by Cabinet Ministry.
There is a definitive contrast illustrated between these two systems. One of them
being as the administration by semi independent executive agents who obey the
dictation of a legislature to which they are not responsible and another one as being
the administration be executive agents who are accredited leaders and accountable
servants of a legislature that are dominant in all things.
The essential difference between Congress and the parliamentarian system is that in
parliamentarian system legislatures have constitutional responsibilities for forming
the government structure. However, in such system, no government can function that
is unable to win a confidence
Norman Rockwell s The Runaway
Description Norman Rockwell s piece of work, The Runaway, is painted on a
canvas. This famous artwork is known as an oil painting. The Runaway was painted
during 1958 and measures 35 x 33 . This amazing piece of work can currently be
found in the Norman Rockwell Museum in his collection of artworks. This museum
is located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Normal Rockwell used state trooper
Richard J. Clemens Jr. to model as the state trooper in the painting and used eight
year old Ed Locke to pose as the boy. The painting was created at the Howard
Johnson s Restaurant. The Runaway s scene shows a little boy sitting at a counter.
He looks to be the subject of the artwork. He looks like he may be around the age of
eight and has short, almost buzzed cut, blonde hair. This little boy is wearing a yellow
shirt, blue jeans, and a brown belt. His shirt is tucked in and he has what looks like
a jacket in his lap. He jeans are scrunched up, showing his white socks and shoes.
The laces on his shoes seem to be untied. To the boy s left sits a state trooper. He
looks to be in his late thirties or possible early forties. He is in his full officer
uniform, which consists... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When looking at the artwork it is easy to see the fatherly feeling Norman Rockwell
put into it. When anyone thinks about a runaway child, you would not picture this
image Rockwell created. It overflows with a safe, secure feeling that the child is
okay. This is what Norman Rockwell wanted however. He wanted to show the
importance of keeping children safe and therefore put two fatherly figures in the
painting with the boy. Norman could have painted it with just the boy sitting there
alone and a waiter who ignored him. This would make us think the boy is alone and
has no protection. However, Rockwell did not want that to be the message. Instead he
depicted the two men as the boy s protection till the parents showed
Culture Of Somalia Research Paper
The Culture of Somalia The country of Somalia had a colorful past, in that plenty of
conflicts went on throughout its history. The government of Somalia improved
throughout the years. It has overcome corruption, but even though Somalia is ran
different today, the issues of fraud still arise. Government fraud, Civil War, and
American difference have been steady throughout Somalia s peak of destruction. We
look to the present day Somalia and see that terrorism and fraud still try to disrupt the
clean appearance that Somalia is trying to live by. Though all of these variables are
constant in Somalia today, the strength of the government trying to succeed is

Trainer s Dear Future Husband
In the opening sequence of her Dear Future Husband, Trainer s bright color outfits
suggest her dominant personality, underscoring her leading position in her
relationships. When she first appears, Trainer wears a red jacket with a blue pencil
skirt. The color red represents her outgoing characteristics, shows her passionate
feelings toward life, and reveals her aggressiveness in controlling her future. It
resembles the color of fire, which burns so violently and exhaustively that its
surroundings can feel its warmth. Therefore, the red that Trainer wears illustrates her
fire like passion toward life and suggests her dominant personality, portraying her as
an expressive, energetic feminist. Locating on the opposite site in the color spectrum,
The Philosophy Of St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Thomas Aquinas was an influential philosopher who strongly incorporated faith
into his philosophy. In his Summa Theologiae, Aquinas uses his own arguments
along with those of both Aristotle and Plato to strengthen his claims. First and
foremost, Aquinas uses his own philosophy to back the Christian faith and the
existence of God. However, Aquinas also extends his argument past the initial claim
of God and Christianity, and it is here where he uses these other influential
philosophers to help support his claims and arguments. Right away in Basic Works,
Aquinas jumps straight to the biggest issue regarding religion does God exist?
Immediately in his philosophical argumentation he focuses on his faith. Regarding
this question, Aquinas first explains the notion God being self evident. Aquinas
divides propositions into two categories being propositions that are self evident in
themselves but which are not known to us because we do not know what the terms
of the proposition really mean, and propositions which are self evident in themselves
and known to us because we do. Aquinas goes on to explain that the proposition that
God exists is self evident in itself because the predicate is identical with the subject
and that since we don t know what God is, the proposition is not self evident to us but
rather must be demonstrated to us though what is more evident to us (Question 2,
Article 1). Aquinas goes on to explain that there are two types of demonstrations with

The Inspiration Of Elvis Presley And The American Dream
When one thinks of Elvis Presley, he or she may think of the line I m all shook up,
his signature white flamboyant jumpsuit, or his stereotypical movies. However,
Elvis was much more than a singer, he was an influence and an inspiration that
paved the way for a new era of music as well as an age of acceptance. He can be
considered one of the greatest musicians of all time not only because he won
countless awards and honors, but because he also helped to merge African and
Caucasian America, represented the American dream, and inspired many other
successful musicians. Elvis s excessive popularity resulted in countless awards and

This is believed to be what inspired him to become a white man with the Negro sound
and the Negro feel. ( Elvis Presley Biography ) Early in his career, it was discovered
that he could perform blues songs while also keeping his southern roots. This unique
blend of styles along with Elvis s popularity became a catalyst for a musical
revolution. Black music needed to be introduced by a white artist in order to appeal
to an audience outside of the African Americancommunity, and Elvis was the one
who could do it (McKeen). He had the charisma, the charm, the look, and the
moves. During the rise of his fame, Elvis was invited to be on Milton Berle s
Variety Show. On his second appearance, his promiscuous dance moves, mostly
involving the gyrating of his hips, deemed him inappropriate for audiences by
CBS. This prompted Elvis to only be televised from the waist up, which in turn
built anticipation for his shows. He was sexual, sensual, rude, and the best thing to
happen in years. (Partridge, 26) He would also become friends with African
American artists who he would then endorse at public events, concerts, interviews,
and television appearances. This helped to spread African American music to
primarily Caucasian areas of the country. The use of the radio had a massive impact
on this spread, it even helped Elvis develop his interest in the African American
sound. When Elvis was growing up, segregation laws were enforced. Schools, seats

I interviewed my grandma for this essay. She was a nurse in Michigan, then she
moved to Florida and continued nursing there. She became a nurse because she
wanted to make a difference in people s life, her life, and her family s life. She did
not always want to be a nurse but when she got in an auto accident and saw all the
people helping her she just knew that she wanted to work in the healthcare field.
She went to the University of Detroit Mercy to get her BSN. She got her master s

her post masters in Population Care Coordination. She went back to school to get her

The biggest challenges that she faces was working with protective services. There
were moms that were discharged with their children even if they were seen as an
unfit mother because there was no one else to take the child. Working as a nurse
was initially what she expected when she decided to become a nurse. Today she
said not so much because nursing has gotten worse and not better. It is still a good
profession but people come in to nursing as it being job not for the service. They
need to have care, compassion and education to help an individual through life and
death. For the career to get better people need to want to do nursing for other
people and not for themselves. The advice she gave me what stick with it and do
not give up because you are going to have to make sacrifices. They will pay off
down the road. You can make lateral moves. You can move anywhere in the world
and still have a job which is great about the nursing profession. Just do not get

The History of Eiffel Tower
An icon of Paris, the Eiffel Tower symbolizes the French capital unlike any other
architectural monument. It has become impossible to imagine the city without the
Eiffel Tower, and yet when it was constructed for the Paris World s Fair in 1889, it
was hugely controversial. The iron edifice was originally intended to be a
temporary construction, designed to symbolize French industrial prowess as a
showcase for the World s Fair. Once it served its purpose, Parisian residents hoped
the monumental mass would be torn down. Yet the advent of radio technology
extended the life of Eiffel s tower. As the tallest building in the world at the time, the
structure was readily repurposed as a radio tower.
Eiffel s design could not have been selected for its double role, as radio technology
was not yet a consideration in 1889. Out of the over a hundred other entries into
the World s Fair competition, Eiffel s won in part because of its grandeur and
ostentatiousness. After all, the World s Fair was a showcase to the Industrial Age:
and a way for individual countries to prove their supremacy as technological
powers. The display of technological prowess served distinct cultural roles: such as
the means by which French national identity could become more cohesive. As the
tallest building in the world for nearly 40 years, the Eiffel Towershowed the world
that Paris, France was a hub of progress. Another reason why the design was selected
was because the use of iron represented a revolutionary
The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz By Frank Baum
Firstly, before examining about Alice in Wonderland , I would like to discuss about
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which was the first American fairy tale, written by
Frank Baum. Baum was very invested in the triumph posited by rationalistic notions
of Manifest Destiny and the heroism of the Frontier. He wanted to have the children
to be proud of the story of how the settlers were conquering the land of the natives at
that time and constructing the uniquely American identity. This objective of
establishing the ideal American citizens through this story was embodied by Dorothy
and her companions. There, characteristics such as intelligent, empathetic and
courageous were presented as ideal American traits and how Dorothy s bravely...

Baum was outlining the parameters of his America , and a part of that included
things like ideal Americans, deciding who belonged and who did not and who
should be excluded as others. Like this story of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, most
popular texts and forms of art tend to have some kind of relationship with the
societies from which they stem. As well as reflecting the historical and cultural
character of the society, they voice the author s own beliefs about the society at that
time. To move on, I would like to discuss about the Victorian period and the
characteristics of the Victorian Literatureto analyze Carolls intentions for writing the
Alice in Wonderland during the Victorian era. One of the major characteristics of the
Victorian Period is urbanization and industrialization due to the Industrial Revolution
that initiated around 1760. Because of this atmosphere of industrialization,
urbanization and also colonization, the gap between wealth and poverty widened a
lot. Therefore, in Great Britain during the Victorian period the class structure
became rigid and women and children from the weaker laboring class suffered a big
deal from the severe labor while the upper class acted arrogantly and enjoyed a
luxurious life. On the other hand, in the Victorian period, because of the upsurge of
the religious movement called evangelism and permeation of people s thinking about
revising the society, there was an atmosphere to demand for strict morals
Mount Tambora and the Year Without a Summer Essay
Mount Tambora is a large stratovolcano located on the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia.
It lies approximately 210 miles north of the Java Trench and is flanked to the north
and south by oceanic crust. Its current summit elevation is around 9,350 feet
(Smithsonian Institute). To the south east of the volcano lies the Sanggar peninsula,
which is a part of Tambora. There are two cities, Dompu and Clima, and three
concentrations of villages near the mountain slope: Sanggar, Doro Peti and
Pesanggrahan, and Calabai.

Then around 7 p.m. that night the eruption suddenly intensified and became
incredibly violent. Reported from Sanggar were reports of three columns of flame
that merged at a very great height. Pumice stones of up to 20cm then began to fall
at 8 p.m. with ash between 9 and 10 p.m. Then violent winds blew toward Sanggar
between 10 and 11 p.m. Possible pyroclastic flows that buried the village of
Tambora could be attributed to the winds. A tsunami of 4 meters hit Sanggar a
short time before 10 p.m., indicating a sudden entry of the pyroclastic flow into the
sea. The explosions could be heard as far away as 1050 km and in many places
produced concussions that resembled small earthquakes (Stothers, 1984). The next
day the explosions were louder and could be heard as far away as 2600 km. The ash

The Flaws Of The Articles Of Confederation
On March 1st, 1781, the Articles of Confederation were signed and ratified. Although
this document protected and strengthened the United States from British rule, gave
the U.S citizens freedom, and organized the 13 states, there were many flaws which
sat upon the surface of these articles. Over time these flaws presented themselves
through high taxes, debt, and unenforceable laws across state line. Under the Articles
of Confederation, there were neither a chief executive or a judiciary. In the
Federalists Papers it states that The Crowning defect of the Confederation is the lack
of a judicial power. Laws are pointless without courts to interpret and define their true
meaning and operation. Though it could make treaties, it could not enforce
Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim Analysis
When the topic of significant historical figures from the mid 17th century to present
arises, people s minds typically gravitate towards a handful of usual suspects. Some
examples might include George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to include villainous figures such as Benito Mussolini,
Joseph Stalin, and of course, Adolph Hitler. While these impactful historical
characters are indeed intriguing, as there are countless books, articles, documentaries,
and other literary pieces telling their respective stories, it is also important to learn
and become further educated on other, less known historical figures. We all are pieces
that eventually fit into our world s grand historical puzzle. And without historical
education and learning about the people that paved the path for the world today, we
can never truly understand today s world. Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheimis a sizable
piece of our historical puzzle, and his story is one that deserves recognition. Born
on June 4, 1867, Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim was born into a wealthy family. He
was son to a Swedish nobleman who was highly regarded in his society. Carl Gustaf

War Pacific Outline
The war in the Pacific started out with two pathways. This aloud for more surface to
be covered, and more islands to be taken over. While the war was going on President
Truman was attending the Potsdam Conference with British Prime Minister Winston
Churchill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin. At this conference the leaders were
working out agreements on punishment for war criminals, the German economy, land
boundaries and reparations. As well, there talks primarily centered on postwar
Europe and demanding unconditional surrender from Japan. This is also the place
that President Truman received word of the nuclear bomb was working. He told
Prime Minister Churchill about the bomb, but only told Soviet Premier Stalin that a
new weapon was in order. The bomb would give the United Statesthe power they...

This was a sequence of battles fought in the Japanese Ryukyu Islands, centered
around Okinawa Island. This battle contained the largest amphibious assault in the
Pacific War and also lasted 82 days beginning April 1 and ending June 22, 1945.
After the battle of Okinawa, we had the invasion of Hiroshima. President Truman s
made the decision the drop the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, on August 6,
to set a point to Japan. This attack killed 70,000 instantly and 100,000 more died in
the following years from burns and sickness from the bomb. The next bomb was
dropped on the city of Nagasaki, August 9th. This bomb killing 80,000 immediately
and injuring many more. This is the only use of nuclear weapon in warfare history.
In all over 129,000 people were killed, in these two bombings alone.
Six days after the bombing on Nagasaki and the Soviet Union s declaration of war
Japan announced its surrender to the Allies. To end the war, the Japanese government
signed the instrument of surrender, which is basically a written agreement to

Che Guevara Simulacralised Image
Che Guevara, a simulacralised image
In this essay I will discuss with the help of academic resources the difference
between cult value and exhibition value and how it relates to the aura of authenticity
in reproduced artworks. The concept, definition and different stages of simulacrum
will be discussed according to Jean Baudrillard s and Michael Camille s text by
referring to Che Guevara photograph and represented images such as internet memes.
Lastly an understanding will be demonstrated of how postmodern strategies are no
longer relevant in the context of simulacrum.
According to Benjamin (1955: 794) aura belongs to the artwork s uniqueness and that
most artworks had this uniqueness before mechanical reproductions. In Film theory

The first stage is the reflection of basic reality which suggests that the representation
refers to a deeper meaning or reflecting the meaning of the original, in this case it is
the original photograph taken, figure 1, by Alberto Korda (Baudrillard 1988: 170).
The second stage is the masking and perversion of basic reality, meaning that the
image itself has become a transformation of the image in itself, figure 2, Jim
Fitzpatrick s represented image of Che Guevara (Baudrillard 1988: 170). The third
stage is the masking of the absence of basic reality, meaning that the image has
taken on its own transformation, thus moving away from the original concept, for
example the mass produced T shirt or mugs with the image of Che Guevara. The
third stage does not grasp the reality it belongs to and Baudrillard (1988: 170)
refers to this stage as the simulation. The fourth and the last stage of Baudrillard
orders of simulacra is the final stage of simulation, this is the stage that the image
has become too distant from its origin and that it bears no resemblance to the
original and has become a new reality or Hyper Reality (Baudrillard 1988: 170).
The fourth stage can be noted in figure 3, where each meme of Che Guevara has its

What Are The Similarities Between Sallust And Salluse
In what is arguably one of the most infamous episodes of the Roman Republic, L.
Sergius Catilina plotted the murder of a number of senators, and planned to assume
control over the Republic. The conspiracy is the depicted in Sallust s historiography,
Bellum Catilinae, as well as it is the subject of Ciceros most famous speeches, In
Catilinam I IV. Primarily, the fame of the unsuccessful rebellion known as the
Catilinarian Conspiracy of 63 B.C. stems from the comprehensible body of work
which details it, and to the surviving world, these works provides insight into the
unstable political climate of the late Roman Republic. In addition to detailing this
attempted rebellion, Sallust and Cicero also managed to create an image of the man
which the conspiracy was named after, Catiline. As a result of Cicero s and Sallust s
standing as giants within the body of Western history, the inevitable consequence of
this is that the image which they constructed of Catiline is the one which has
prevailed through the centuries.
This paper will examine Catiline s characterisation in both Sallust and Cicero,
compare and contrast these, and subsequently conclude that albeit both men s
descriptions of Catiline are overwhelmingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, Sallust introduces Catiline as, L. Catiline born of a noble line, had

(Sallust, Catiline s War, 5.1) Similarly, in the first Catilinarian speech, Cicero
addresses Catiline and asks, at what point will your unrestrained recklessness stop
flaunting itself? (Cicero, In Catilinam, 1) Sequently, to the contemporary reader, the
image which is conveyed of Catiline here, by the usage of negative connotated words
such as wicked, and crooked, and unrestrained recklessness, is of villainous,

Social Variation Of American English
There are many social variation in American English, they are associated with age,
gender, sexual orientation and ethnicity. Recently, several linguistic trends to
investigate the speech of women, one of these is vocal fry. Vocal fry is speech that is
very low pitched and creaky sounding shaped by a slow movement of the vocal
cords. It considered to be a voice disorder (Tamasi, P132). Also people tend to have a
lot of negative attitude towards vocal fry.
Creaky voice is been used by movie star Mae West in a film from 1933 (Tamasi,
P132). Since the 1960s, the vocal fry, falsetto and modal have been put into the three
lowest vocal register. Vocal fry is be notice in recent decade, so people might not
know when it started to use, and complete history of it yet. However, we know it
had been added in to music, such as pop singer Britney Spears, used vocal fry as a
way to reach low notes and as style. Later, more and more music stars and women
doing it. People can heard vocal fry in music, radio stations, and television shows
(Fessenden). People use vocal fry increasing nowadays. The prescriptive grammar
does not say about this item, because it does not relate to grammar. It relates to
voice pitch and speech pathology. Is it is vocal fry consider to be a speech

Brazilian Test
A. Introduction As shown by the Griffith criterion, tensile strength of brittle materials
is theoretical 1/8 of the compressive strength. Typically, tensile strengthof rock
materials is about 1/10 to 1/8 of the compressive strength. Hence, rock fails easily
under tension. In design, rock should be subjected to minimum tensile stress. Several
methods are commonly used to test the tensile strength of rocks: 1. Direct tensile
test: Metal caps are cemented to the end surfaces of the samples so that tensile load
can be applied to the samples until failure. 2. Brazilian ... Show more content on

According to the Griffith theory of failure, the critical point ought to be the centre
where the ratio of compression to tension (in terms of magnitude) is 3. With a
principal stress ratio of 3, failure ought to result from the application of the tensile
stress alone, without any complication from the simultaneous compression parallel to
the eventual rupture plane.
There are 2 possible modes of failure of the splitting tension specimen: 1. Axial
splitting along vertical diameter 2. Shear and crushing failure at loading (occurs
when the width of the contact area between the jaws and the disc is large)
Theoretically, the rock specimen should fail at the centre of specimen (largest
induced tensile stress), yet the experimental results shown that the failure occurs
along the vertical diameter as the induced tensile stresses are more or less the same
except for points next to the loading jaws. In other words, the rupture of the
specimen in the Brazil test usually occurs along a single tensile type fracture across
the diameter aligned with the axis of loading.

Descriptive Essay On The Abu Bbakr Temple
The temple that we visited was the Abu Bakr Mosque, a Sunni temple, and the
largest Islamic Mosque in the state of Colorado. The temple can accommodate up
to 3,000 people at its maximum. Abu Bakr is a part of the Colorado Muslim
Society and is the first masjid in Colorado after the building was purchased in 1974
and relocated to its current location. My first impression of the masjid was that it
did not seem like a religious building at first sight. Because of the simple masonry
of the exterior, I would have assumed that it was a school or office building. I
originally expected more windows and more of a radial pattern of the site. Everyone
that I encountered outside of the temple was friendly and wanted to interact and teach
me more about about Islam. One man in the multicultural room of the temple said
that he couldn t distinguish if I was muslim or not because I had the traditional
head scarf on as well as being covered to my wrists and ankles. He said that I was
very respectful by dressing conservatively. The people seemed more conservative
with the separation of the sexes and with the timeliness of the prayer, but we were
told that we were completely separated to eliminate distraction for both men and
women, and the exact timing of the prayer helped because it was a Saturday, and it
was easier for the attendants to be more on time. They are also very understanding of
schedules because the masjid is open all day to accommodate everyone. The

History of Community Colleges in the United States
Community colleges in the United States develop rapidly and have become a vital
component of the postsecondary education delivery system. As of 2011 2012 school
year, 45% of all undergraduate students were enrolled in public two year colleges,
approximately 8.3 million students (Knapp et al., 2012. Cited by AACC Fast Facts).
And it seems that with globalization and Obama s education agenda, the trend of
growing enrollment in community colleges won t change. A high school graduate
who decides to pursue postsecondary education may face with a dilemma whether
enroll in a community collegeor a traditional four year college. Even within a
community college, a student may be faced with a choice enroll in a vocational
program and enter workforce after graduation with a vocational certification, or
choose an academic program with an intention of transferring to four year institutions.
This paper will first give a brief introduction on community college in the United
States its past and present. Then it will examine four main purposes for students
attending a community college today. In the next part, an economic comparison
between community college and four year university will be given with a focus on
two specific programs. At last, implication and conclusion will be presented.

it attained such prominence (Brint Karabel, 1989). Once commonly called
Baroque Art And The Baroque Era
Baroque Ornamentation
The use of ornamentation in Baroque music was a creative, and sometimes
improvised outlet for period musicians that spurred from human instinct to
manipulate melodic material. This urge to change melodic material by altering the
rhythm, or melody can be seen throughout history. Music including Gregorian chant,
which predates the Baroque era, contains some elements of ornamentation. It can be
seen throughout the Baroque, Classical era, and even in modern music. Although
improvisation has been repressed by modern conventions of performance, it shows
itself in the style of improvised jazz and avant garde free improvisation. Performers
use improvisation as a means of self expression and a way to express composer
intent. During the Baroque era, there were many different styles and methods of
ornamentation depending on location, style, date, and composer of a piece of music.
Understanding the historical developments of the Baroque era and the development
of ornamentation can help modern performers of Baroque music better understand
how to play a more historically accurate performance. The Baroque era lasted from
about 1600 to 1750. The music from the Baroque began to develop contrapuntally and
in harmonic complexity. Composers also relied on the performers ability to add
ornamentation and to complete the harmonies in a basso continue score through
improvisation. These scores consisted of a bass line with numbers and symbols
written above, to indicate the

Polygamy In The United States Essay
Polygamy s Effects on Women, Children, and The United States Judicial System
Polygamy is defined as the practice or custom of having more than one wife or
husband at the same time. Since the accomplishment of the legalization of gay
marriage in the United States (U.S.), the public has been looking for the next law to
debate over, and now they have finally found it; polygamy has been introduced as the
next controversial action that should be legalized. It has been in the media for years,
whether you saw it on one of the hit television shows based on it, or on the news
when Warren Jeffs was arrested for child sexual abuse. With the media s attention on
this topic, everyone has their own opinions and arguments. The arguments from the
people against legalization, and their reliable evidence that support it, highly
outweigh their opponent s. Reasons why polygamy should not be legalized, include,
it has negative effects on women, and children, and because of the problems it
imposes on the United States judicial system.
To begin, polygamy should not be legalized because it has negative effects on the
women or wives involved in polygamous marriages. It is shown in the media all too
frequently, the husband in a polygamous marriage being arrested for the hideous acts
of abuse on their wives and sometimes even their children. An example of this would
be Carolyn Jessop s story. Carolyn Jessop is one of the many victims of the

In a remarkable contrast, Harley Quinn was not conceived with so much planning
and lofty intentions. Her rise is a recent, completely unprecedented curve ball. She
was only meant to be a passing character in Batman: The Animated Series ,a
mainstay of 90 s childhood. In a bizarre twist of fate, and the right people knowing
each other, Harley Quinn got her origin. The cartoon s writer, Paul Dini, watched a
tape of his college buddy, comedy writer Arleen Sorkin, doing comedy bits in Days
of Our Lives as a weird court jester. The character s personality clicked with what
Dini sought for a girl in The Joker s crew. As Abraham Riesman tells it, When he
saw Sorkin in clown makeup, the pieces fell into place, and he came up with a silly
little sidekick. He gave her the comic book y name of Harley Quinn [...] . This odd
turn of events even established Sorkin as the long standing voice actor for the new
character. Despite their polar opposition , from their creation to how they act within
the comics, both women have to deal with their gendered reality as a part of their
identity and a big part of how the world interacts with them. Both handle their role as
a woman with stark contrast. Harley Quinn has no problem using her gender as
sexual ammunition. It s even part of her origin story in Mad Love ,the Eisner winning
comic exploring her beginnings and relationship with the Joker, Batman remarks that
even from the beginning Harley Quinn was no angel.
Value Of American Culture Essay
American Values
Every country around the globe has its own unique culture, social belief and structure,
and values. American culture is not different in this regard. Two of the most
significant values of American culture are a strong work ethic and the competitive
spirit. This paper will examine how these values define American culture, how these
values affected me personally growing up, and how these values influence my
attempts to influence others.
Strong Work Ethicand Competitive Spirit
American culture is known around the world for many things, but two of the most
influential values in my life have been developing a strong work ethic along with
the competitive spirit that can be found in virtually every aspect of American life.
Whether it is creating a quality product or just completing a hard day s work, as
Americans we are taught that we have accomplished something to feel good about
if we have given maximum effort. This belief was largely in contrast to previous
cultures who had regarded hard work as a curse (Hill, 1996). In American culture,
the desire to pursue your dreams meant that you also had the ability to attain them if
you were willing to make the necessary sacrifices. That motivation compelled people

Americans are raised from a young age to be the best that they can be, never give
up, and reach for any goal no matter how unattainable. One of the biggest examples of
this is the rise of the American automobile industry. Not only was there competition
between the Big Three American automakers, but also from foreign competitors. This
competition led the charge for American car companies to reinvent themselves. In
order to beat the competition, they had to make if better, faster, and less expensive
(Jayaram, Vickery, Droge, 1999). This competitive spirit is seen across many levels
of American culture from sporting events to space travel, anything less than the best is

Sublime In Gothic Literature
Gothic literature, which developed during the 17th century, was based on the surreal.
When the Gothic literature started, it was apparently more about supernatural and
horror, but it was depicted in such manner that it was amusing and terrifying at the
same time. Therefore, the concept of sublime emerged, which was actually finding
harmony in chaos and pleasure in horror. For instance, the gothic literature, gave birth
to characters like Dracula, which were beyond death and which were intriguing, not
like classical villains from medieval era. The changes, decline of religion and rise of
state, also shaped gothic literature and provided motifs, which continue to occur.
However, in late 18th century, the age of rationalism, gothic literature
Collection of Information for Systems Analysis Essay

A critical part for systems analysis is the collection of information. From the very
beginning, analyst need to understand the information systems that are currently in

how users feel about the new or replacement information systems. There are many

1.2Advantage and Disadvantage of face to face interview
According to Holbrook, Green and Krosnick (2003, p.79), face to face interview is
known for its high quality. Kendall and Kendall (2006, p.110) argue that an a
question and answer format is used for information gathering interview which is a
directed conversation with a specific purpose. In fact if we want to understand why
we need to choose interview as a select technique, we need to find out what we can
get from the interview. One thing that we can get from the interview is the opinions
of the interviewee and his or her feelings about the system, organizational and
personal goals, and informal procedures for interacting with information
technologies. The truth is that opinions maybe more important and more revealing
than facts. An example can be given as asking the owner of a traditional store who
has recently implement an online store how many customer has complain and need
to refund who deal through Web transactions each week. She replies: About 20 to 25
a week. Then you may discover that the average is only 10.5 per week. A conclusion

least once, and when asked to super size his meal he must do so. Another
stipulation of Morgan s experiment is that he can only take 5,000 steps a day to
replicate the exercise that most average Americans get on a daily basis. He must
also eat three meals a day, no exceptions and if McDonalds doesn t serve ... Show

He was told that he might do permanent damage to his liver due to having to
metabolize all of the excess fat in his new diet. Not to my surprise, McDonalds did
not want to participate in this documentary whatsoever and did not ever give
Morgan the interview that he sought after, even after over 15 telephone calls. In a
sense that obesity is a growing epidemic I think that the documentary was fairly
realistic, but who actually eats McDonalds three times a day? Morgan did say that
22% of all McDonald s consumers were known as super heavy users, which means
that they eat McDonald s food 3 times a week or more. I think Morgan conveyed
his negative opinions about the fast food chains, particularly McDonalds very well
although there may have been some dramatization. The people who are most
affected by McDonalds marketing and pricing practices are definitely kids and/or
lower budget people. The cheap food that supposedly fills you up for longer due to
the long list of ingredients in it is easy for lower income families to provide. The
extent to which McDonalds is marketed to children can be seen in the installation
of playgrounds, birthday party hosting, toys with kid s meals, Ronald McDonald
the clown, and many other sly advertising techniques such as a cartoon on TV. All
of these marketing techniques lure kids in at an early age. Uneducated people are
more likely to eat at McDonalds at a larger scale because many times they are not
informed of
Clean Water Act Argument Essay
Furthermore, the Shore Protection Act is applicable to the transportation of
municipal and commercial waste in coastal waters aiming to minimize debris from
being deposited into coastal waters from inadequate waste handling procedures by
waste transporting vessels (Laws That Protect). The Center for Biodiversity had
petitioned the EPA to begin regulating plastics as a pollutant under The Clean Water
Acta crucial first step in reducing the amount of plastic. The Clean Water Act is the
nation s strongest law protecting water quality. Recognition of plastic pollution under
the clean water act enables states to develop water quality standards to finally begin
curbing the amount of plastic dumped in the oceans.
Yet despite all these efforts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Serving as the number one source of our plastic use, companies opt for plastic
containers because it s easy, feasible, and convenient. Food packaging alone makes
up for 30 40% of landfills with much of that plastic being carried into the oceans.
Going off of this, a new concept that s quickly becoming popular are package free
grocery stores. These cost effective grocery stores have everything you could
possible need in bulk form and consumers bring glass or reusable containers, or
cloth bags and fill them with the food they need. First popping up in cities like
Berlin, Vienna, and Barcelona, many are finding this a more sustainable and eco
friendly option resulting in these sort of grocery stores quickly spreading across the
ocean, with the first one in the United States expected to open in Brooklyn, New
York. Business operators are extremely optimistic that this could serve a very
impactful solution to getting rid of unnecessary plastic. (Che Jenny).
In conclusion, it should have been learned that the issue of plastic pollution has
become ruinous. The cost of repair and the inconvenience of lifestyle changes cannot
compare to the frightful future this planet is headed. At current rates, hazards are not
just inflicted on Earth s oceans but individual human health and the other creatures
that rightly inhabit this land. With this concern
Shakespeares Biography Essay
SHAKESPEARE S BIOGRAPHY
Shakespeare s Biography
William Shakespeare was a great writer who lead a very interesting life. In fact, he is
often though of as the greatest write of his time.
As a child, William Shakespeare started his education at around the age of six or
seven at Stratford grammar school, also known as the King s New School of
Stratford upon Avon. (Brookepg23) It would be most likely that Shakespeare s
lessons would focus around Latin composition and the study of Latin authors like
Seneca, Cicero, Ovid, Vigil, and Horace. (Brooke pg23) Shakespeare s schooling
did not last long however, when he was removed from school at the age of thirteen
due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not much
is known about Anne and her children around this date, except for the death of her
son,
Hamnet, at the age of eleven on August 11, 1596. William Shakespeare was left
without an aire, but by this time he had already left for England to start his career.
As mentioned before, Shakespeare had an early period of his life which led from his
withdrawal from grammar school, to his marriage to Anne Hathaway, which is
commonly referred to as his lost years. Now comes the second section of his life
where not much is heard of him and is also likewise known as his lost years. This
period lasted seven years, from the time he left his family in Stratford to the time
he had become an established actor by the end of 1592. It is thought that during
this time he practiced his skills and may have even been recruited by the Leicester
s or Queen s Men. (Bentley pg 14) Many of his plays had already become well
known, such as Henry VI, The Comedy of Errors, and Titus Andronicus.
When the theatres were closed from 1592 to 1593, during this time, Shakespeare
wrote many non dramatic poems. When the Earl of Southampton saw his work, he
immediately gave Shakespeare the support he needed. With the Earl s help,
Shakespeare returned back to the theatre in 1594. He then became so immersed with
his work that he was more involved in the theatre than anyone else. He now shared
ownership of the Globe. (Mabillard

Criminal Issues In The Criminal Justice System Throughout history, there has been only a handful of crimes and criminal issues that reached the span of not just a city, state or country but the entire world. These criminal issues include crimes like drug trafficking, human trafficking, and terrorist attacks. Interestingly, the fundamental reasoning behind these types of crimesvaries greatly. • 4. The State Of Public Schools Essay In Kansas, the dispute between the branches for power began when the judiciary noticed the disparity in the funding of Kansas school education. The Kansas judiciary came to the conclusion that the disparity in funding was a violation of Kansas constitution. In an effort to fix this, the Kansas judiciary ordered the legislative to make a solution. However, rather than addressing the school funding issue, the Kansas legislative branch passed a law that removed the Supreme Courts right to appoint local chief judges and the ability to set district court budgets. Then, the Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, who is in the executive branch, signed a law that would remove the funding of the judicial branch if the Kansas Supreme Court ruled against him in the court case concerning the funding of public schools. The actions of both the legislative and executive branch of Kansas government disregard the system of checks and balances because the judicial branch is being punished for doing their job. Therefore, judicial reviewis vital for a judge in maintaining a consistent balance of power in the government. In 1789, the Constitution of the United States of America was created and serves as the law of the land. In the Constitution, there was an establishment of the different branches of government: the legislative, executive, and the judiciary. In each branch, there are jurisdictional rights that is given and serves as a guideline for the branches to adhere to. For the judicial

It is based upon Jon Krakauer s non fiction book Into the wild . The film follows the idealist Christopher McCandless on his journey to find peace and happiness. Some people might argue that McCandless was a reckless narcissist who brought great sorrow to his family and troubled the law enforcers. I am no professional analysist, but I think that McCandless was perceived as a noble but misguided idealist. Film techniques such as cinematography, mise en scene, and lighting used throughout the film support my judgement of McCandless. Cinematography plays a huge part in portraying McCandless s journey. Cinematography is used to show these emotions in scenes throughout the film. At the beginning scenes of the film, McCandless is shown riding on a train with close up shots of the side of the trains which show McCandless s made up name Alexander Supertramp written in chalk. • 11. U.s. Congressional Presidential System Midterm 1 The U.S. system is a Congressional/Presidential design (not parliamentary), with district based voting (not party list and proportional), with elections that are historically candidate centered (as opposed to party centered), and a resulting Congress where power is often, but not always, concentrated in committees (not party leadership). The comparison of the U.S. Congressional/Presidential system to parliamentarian system can be traced back to Woodrow Wilsons Congressional Government, where he viewed the British system as perfected party government system. The United States Congressional/Presidential system has Congress as the central power and is referred to as a singular form of governance with its own particular characteristics, whereas the parliamentarian system is governed by Cabinet Ministry. There is a definitive contrast illustrated between these two systems. One of them being as the administration by semi independent executive agents who obey the dictation of a legislature to which they are not responsible and another one as being the administration be executive agents who are accredited leaders and accountable servants of a legislature that are dominant in all things. The essential difference between Congress and the parliamentarian system is that in parliamentarian system legislatures have constitutional responsibilities for forming the government structure. However, in such system, no government can function that is unable to win a confidence

He wanted to show the importance of keeping children safe and therefore put two fatherly figures in the painting with the boy. Norman could have painted it with just the boy sitting there alone and a waiter who ignored him. This would make us think the boy is alone and has no protection. However, Rockwell did not want that to be the message. Instead he depicted the two men as the boy s protection till the parents showed

In his Summa Theologiae, Aquinas uses his own arguments along with those of both Aristotle and Plato to strengthen his claims. First and foremost, Aquinas uses his own philosophy to back the Christian faith and the existence of God. However, Aquinas also extends his argument past the initial claim of God and Christianity, and it is here where he uses these other influential philosophers to help support his claims and arguments. Right away in Basic Works, Aquinas jumps straight to the biggest issue regarding religion does God exist? Immediately in his philosophical argumentation he focuses on his faith. Regarding this question, Aquinas first explains the notion God being self evident. Aquinas divides propositions into two categories being propositions that are self evident in themselves but which are not known to us because we do not know what the terms of the proposition really mean, and propositions which are self evident in themselves and known to us because we do. Aquinas goes on to explain that the proposition that God exists is self evident in itself because the predicate is identical with the subject and that since we don t know what God is, the proposition is not self evident to us but rather must be demonstrated to us though what is more evident to us (Question 2, Article 1). Aquinas goes on to explain that there are two types of demonstrations with one

( Elvis Presley Biography ) Early in his career, it was discovered that he could perform blues songs while also keeping his southern roots. This unique blend of styles along with Elvis s popularity became a catalyst for a musical revolution. Black music needed to be introduced by a white artist in order to appeal to an audience outside of the African Americancommunity, and Elvis was the one who could do it (McKeen). He had the charisma, the charm, the look, and the moves. During the rise of his fame, Elvis was invited to be on Milton Berle s Variety Show. On his second appearance, his promiscuous dance moves, mostly involving the gyrating of his hips, deemed him inappropriate for audiences by CBS. This prompted Elvis to only be televised from the waist up, which in turn built anticipation for his shows. He was sexual, sensual, rude, and the best thing to happen in years. (Partridge, 26) He would also become friends with African American artists who he would then endorse at public events, concerts, interviews, and television appearances. This helped to spread African American music to primarily Caucasian areas of the country. The use of the radio had a massive impact on this spread, it even helped Elvis develop his interest in the African American sound. When Elvis was growing up, segregation laws were enforced. • 18. The History of Eiffel Tower An icon of Paris, the Eiffel Tower symbolizes the French capital unlike any other architectural monument. It has become impossible to imagine the city without the Eiffel Tower, and yet when it was constructed for the Paris World s Fair in 1889, it was hugely controversial. The iron edifice was originally intended to be a temporary construction, designed to symbolize French industrial prowess as a showcase for the World s Fair. Once it served its purpose, Parisian residents hoped the monumental mass would be torn down. Yet the advent of radio technology extended the life of Eiffel s tower. As the tallest building in the world at the time, the structure was readily repurposed as a radio tower. Eiffel s design could not have been selected for its double role, as radio technology was not yet a consideration in 1889. Out of the over a hundred other entries into the World s Fair competition, Eiffel s won in part because of its grandeur and ostentatiousness. After all, the World s Fair was a showcase to the Industrial Age: and a way for individual countries to prove their supremacy as technological powers. The display of technological prowess served distinct cultural roles: such as the means by which French national identity could become more cohesive. As the tallest building in the world for nearly 40 years, the Eiffel Towershowed the world that Paris, France was a hub of progress. Another reason why the design was selected was because the use of iron represented a revolutionary

One of the major characteristics of the Victorian Period is urbanization and industrialization due to the Industrial Revolution that initiated around 1760. Because of this atmosphere of industrialization, urbanization and also colonization, the gap between wealth and poverty widened a lot. Therefore, in Great Britain during the Victorian period the class structure became rigid and women and children from the weaker laboring class suffered a big deal from the severe labor while the upper class acted arrogantly and enjoyed a luxurious life. On the other hand, in the Victorian period, because of the upsurge of the religious movement called evangelism and permeation of people s thinking about revising the society, there was an atmosphere to demand for strict morals

The second stage is the masking and perversion of basic reality, meaning that the image itself has become a transformation of the image in itself, figure 2, Jim Fitzpatrick s represented image of Che Guevara (Baudrillard 1988: 170). The third stage is the masking of the absence of basic reality, meaning that the image has taken on its own transformation, thus moving away from the original concept, for example the mass produced T shirt or mugs with the image of Che Guevara. The third stage does not grasp the reality it belongs to and Baudrillard (1988: 170) refers to this stage as the simulation. The fourth and the last stage of Baudrillard orders of simulacra is the final stage of simulation, this is the stage that the image has become too distant from its origin and that it bears no resemblance to the original and has become a new reality or Hyper Reality (Baudrillard 1988: 170). The fourth stage can be noted in figure 3, where each meme of Che Guevara has its own meaning and new

Sergius Catilina plotted the murder of a number of senators, and planned to assume control over the Republic. The conspiracy is the depicted in Sallust s historiography, Bellum Catilinae, as well as it is the subject of Ciceros most famous speeches, In Catilinam I IV. Primarily, the fame of the unsuccessful rebellion known as the Catilinarian Conspiracy of 63 B.C. stems from the comprehensible body of work which details it, and to the surviving world, these works provides insight into the unstable political climate of the late Roman Republic. In addition to detailing this attempted rebellion, Sallust and Cicero also managed to create an image of the man which the conspiracy was named after, Catiline. As a result of Cicero s and Sallust s standing as giants within the body of Western history, the inevitable consequence of this is that the image which they constructed of Catiline is the one which has prevailed through the centuries. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Griffith theory of failure, the critical point ought to be the centre where the ratio of compression to tension (in terms of magnitude) is 3. With a principal stress ratio of 3, failure ought to result from the application of the tensile stress alone, without any complication from the simultaneous compression parallel to the eventual rupture plane. There are 2 possible modes of failure of the splitting tension specimen: 1. Axial splitting along vertical diameter 2. Shear and crushing failure at loading (occurs when the width of the contact area between the jaws and the disc is large) Theoretically, the rock specimen should fail at the centre of specimen (largest induced tensile stress), yet the experimental results shown that the failure occurs along the vertical diameter as the induced tensile stresses are more or less the same except for points next to the loading jaws. In other words, the rupture of the specimen in the Brazil test usually occurs along a single tensile type fracture across the diameter aligned with the axis of loading.

  • 35. Baroque Art And The Baroque Era Baroque Ornamentation The use of ornamentation in Baroque music was a creative, and sometimes improvised outlet for period musicians that spurred from human instinct to manipulate melodic material. This urge to change melodic material by altering the rhythm, or melody can be seen throughout history. Music including Gregorian chant, which predates the Baroque era, contains some elements of ornamentation. It can be seen throughout the Baroque, Classical era, and even in modern music. Although improvisation has been repressed by modern conventions of performance, it shows itself in the style of improvised jazz and avant garde free improvisation. Performers use improvisation as a means of self expression and a way to express composer intent. During the Baroque era, there were many different styles and methods of ornamentation depending on location, style, date, and composer of a piece of music. Understanding the historical developments of the Baroque era and the development of ornamentation can help modern performers of Baroque music better understand how to play a more historically accurate performance. The Baroque era lasted from about 1600 to 1750. The music from the Baroque began to develop contrapuntally and in harmonic complexity. Composers also relied on the performers ability to add ornamentation and to complete the harmonies in a basso continue score through improvisation.
