The Transition Times. Graduation Is One Example Of A Time
The Transition Times Graduation is one example of a time of celebration and honor. It is the
reward you receive for multiple years of difficult work and perseverance. It is also an extremely
bittersweet occasion because often times you are required to make difficult decisions. Decisions
that could take you away from everyone and everything you have ever known. This is known as a
timeof transition. Honestly, it seems a bit anticlimactic that after all the emotions and preparation
you do beforehand is all summarized within a few short hours. This is how the majority of my
fellow upcoming graduates are feeling right now, but I do not. I believe that in order to better
understand these monumental occasions of transition, you must first... Show more content on

During high school you form both positive and negative relationships with people and learn a
various assortment of life lessons. If I challenged myself to choose my top three picks on what
life lessons I have learned I would say freedom, responsibility, and tolerance. I say that I have
learned the lesson of freedom simply owing to the fact that this was my first taste of freedom.
When you receive your driver s license and car or you are able to date for the first time you feel
the absolutely exhilarating unbridled feeling of freedom. This feeling blossoms and flourishes for
only a moment, because then it has company. Freedom is joined by the always rational and logical
emotion responsibility. Responsibility is like the notification that forces you to go home in time
for your curfew or the friend you forces you to stop at the stop sign or to not drink and drive.
When freedom and responsibility work together, you are safe and you also have a great time
growing up. When the two emotions combine together your chances of living to adulthood
increase dramatically. The last life lesson I chose is most definitely not the least important. I have
become more tolerant of not only people and their decisions but also with circumstances. This was
not only the most difficult lesson I have had to learn, but it is the lesson that I am most thankful
for due to the fact that I know that I will use it more and more frequently as I enter into the real
world .

Facebook IPO Analysis Essay
Facebook, Inc: The Initial Public Offering 1. How does Facebook make money? What are the
value drivers of its business? What is its comparative advantage relative to other social
networking companies? (1) Facebook makes money from the following three main fields First is
the advertising. According to the case, we know that the major revenue of Facebook is
advertising, which took up 98 percent in 2009, 95 percent in 2010 and 85 percent in 2011.

Second, by going public, Facebook can raise funds from a broader base of investors. With much
money, the company can have enough resources to develop new products and invest in their
business, which make the company become more competitive. Meanwhile, it s a good
opportunity for the shareholders to gain the best possible value for their own stakes in a long
term. Third, for the further development, Facebook raises its reputation and amplifies its brand
value. More people get to know the company and join in the Facebook. That is to say, Facebook
attracts more users and expands the market share. (2) According to the case, proceeds from the
offering will be used for working capital and other general corporate purposes. Facebook didn t say
more about the use of proceeds in details. 3. What was transpiring in the US IPO market prior to
Facebook s offering? What has been the performance of recent IPO s (during the lead up to the
Facebook offering)? (1) According to the case, global IPO activity during the first quarter of 2012
fell to $14.3 billion, which was dramatically down from $46.6 billion during the first quarter of
2011. In addition, we can see in Exhibit 5 that IPO activity in US have dropped sharply since the

A RESPONSE TO ATHEISM
PHIL 201 D44 LUO
August 18, 2011
A Response to Atheism
In reading McCloskey s article it s obvious he is searching for definitive proof that God exists. He
is unable to find proof and therefore comes to the conclusion that God must not exist. He believes
that the existence of evil discredits arguments made in support of believing in God. There is not
one single thing in this world that we can know definitively without looking at the evidence. You
have to look at the whole picture. Just like in a criminal investigation, the crime scene investigators
gather evidence they are not looking for just the bullets or just the body. They look and gather all
the data before coming to any conclusions. We will discuss... Show more content on

When you look at each of the arguments individually I can see how one might come to this
conclusion. The cosmological argument only proves (if accepted) that there is a necessary being;
however it does not prove that he is divine or perfect. The teleological argument by itself leaves
us wondering why we also see chaos in the world around us. Not everything is orderly and perfect.
You need to collectively look at each of the arguments prior to coming to a conclusion about the
existence of God.
McCloskey believes that because there is evil there is no God. There could be valid reasons for the
presence of evil in the world, though some may beyond our comprehension and understanding.
There needs to be some proof or evidence provided if one wants to make a claim that it s illogical
for God and evil to exist in the same world. McCloskey s article does not provide this proof. He just
says that because there is evil there is no God.
As parents we sometimes allow bad things to happen to our children to teach them a lesson. We
make a choice to allow them to deal with the consequences of their actions so they might learn
from that experience. If we are created in the image of God isn t it possible that as our Father, he
allows us to suffer sometimes to realize the consequences of our actions? It is possible and if it s
possible then it gives a good explanation why God may allow evil things to occur.

Who Is Martin Luther King On Christian Liberty
The battle for liberty has been fought on different scales with the beginning of thousands of
revolutions in the history. The ideal liberty is an ultimate goal that inflames the minds of many
people who yearn for individual freedom. In all these struggles, the definition of liberty is not the
same for different people. According to the text, the idea of liberty has played a powerful role in the
history of Western society and culture, but the meaning and understanding of liberty has undergone
continual change and interpretation. For example in the Roman world, liberty meant the condition
of being a free man. In the Middle Ages, liberty meant having special privileges or rights. However,
the idea of liberty under religious dimension was rather new. Martin LutherKing had interpreted
another important foundation of liberty in his treatise On Christian Liberty: the important of faith
and Scripture to Christian life.
King meant of liberty was based not on articulation of justification by faith alone but through the
word of Gospel. Perhaps, people should have liberty in terms of their connection to God not
controlled or managed by the Church. King understood human liberty, broadly, as the capacity for
a spiritual, new and inward man to make a man a justified, free and true Christian. According to
King, Christian man is the most free lord of all, and subject to none. Of course, faith gives us true
Christian liberty. We are free from the law as regards our salvation.

Cultural Issues In American Intervention
When considering interventions, it is important for the behavior analysts to determine the best
intervention for the client and the families. The behavior analysts have a wide variety of issues to
consider when they wanting to promote an intervention to the families, such as cultural issues.
According to, the cultureis the belief and goals that a large group of people have, and that it is
important to understand the families when it comes to the cultural views and to meet the needs of
the families with the best intervention plan that is best for the client. These are seen from
generation to generation. In other words, the professional has to take into consideration that every
culture does have disabilities or autism; they may be seen it in a different light than the
professional. For example, in certain countries people believe that the child with a disability is
because of past sin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these beliefs are not from different countries, but may be beliefs in native countries, as
well. For example, some parents may believe that interventions should cure their child or that a
certain diet will rid the child of the disability.
It is important to note that culture intertwine with intervention strategies. Culture are may have a
vital role in the intervention strategies. For example, Indian parents were more likely to notice
social issues with the client more than Americans (). Another important aspect to examine when
thinking about culture and intervention is the way symptoms are interpreted. According to, Pacific
islanders and African Americans are less likely to agree with symptoms as disorders than Caucasian
Americans, and effects whether the client s caregivers choose to use interventions at all. Another

As mentioned, there are many different viewpoints on cosmetic surgery, for instance, double
standards within media, and within ourselves. Since this is a controversial topic, there are extreme
opinions as well. Extreme viewpoints include siding with religion or siding with the total
acceptance of cosmetic surgery.
Viewpoint 1
Even though nowadays religion is becoming more private, it has had such a fundamental role in
our upbringing. It is believed that it still has a huge influence, especially when it comes to ethics
and morals. Supporters of the church would argue that cosmetic surgery is unethical and immoral
because God makes people a certain way, so changing one s looks would be going against Him, and

Persuasive Essay On Cyber Warfare
What is cyber warfare and what has been known about it? Well, not much has been brought into
the attention of the people because of interest that is set from all sorts of media. It has come to
the attention of news that seeing is more captivating than what can be understood in a different
level. There is less to be known when it comes to the cyber world, even though it is an ongoing
part of what we are today in regards to technology and communication, without it, things become
way harder than what they used to be, less simple than what they originally were. Cyber warfare is
just the tip of the iceberg on attacks that can cause harm to America and its fundaments that is in
relation to the cyber world. Cyber warfare is primarily internetbased issues that associate with
politically influenced attacks on information and their systems, those attacks can potentially do
things such as deactivate official websites or networks, steal or modify classified data, and
debilitate the financial structure, among many other things. The only way to know the full extent
is to conduct the research yourself and found out what has been going on with the cyber aspect of
the world. In order to expand your knowledge for things cybernetic, there must be a drive to find
more because the media will do little to none in providing details of the next cyber attack or
malicious hardware unless it is affecting important corporations or business of the like.

The Immigration Restriction Act (IRA)
During the last decades of the nineteenth century, anxiety arose in the Australian colonies about the
amount of coloured immigrants travelling to Australia, particularly from China (National Archives
of Australia, 2015). Subsequently, one of the first legislations in the new Federal Parliament was
the ImmigrationRestriction Act (IRA). This Act made it almost impossible for Asians and Pacific
Islanders to migrate to Australia, along with the Pacific Islander Labourers Act and the Post and
Telegraph Act 1901 (NSW Migration Heritage Centre, 2010).
The aim of this and other related legislation was to limit coloured immigration and thus preserve
the leadership of the British (National Archives of Australia, 2015). Two days before Christmas Day

and in the morning he is forced to leave her, If he ever returns to the city, he will be put to death.

Romeo is a passionate intelligent young man, liked and admired throughout Verona. He is loyal to
his friends, but his behavior is somewhat unpredictable. At the beginning of the play, he mopes over
his hopeless unrequited love for Rosaline. In Juliet, Romeo finds a legitimate object for the
extraordinary passion that he is capable of feeling, and his unyielding love for her takes control
of him. Juliet, on the other hand, is an innocent girl, a child at the beginning of the play, and is
startled by the sudden power of her love for Romeo. Guided by her feelings for him, she develops

Andrew Marvell s `` Conflictual World View `` Essay
By 1642, England had descended into chaos as civil war ravaged the country. King Charles I had
dissolved Parliament in 1629 thus making the King vastly unpopular throughout his dominion.
After reestablishing the Parliament in 1640, Oliver Cromwell was elected amidst ensuing
popularity as a religious, talented military man, who supported an agenda for radical reforms
(Britannica). The wars ended with the following outcomes: Charles I beheaded, Cromwell soon
in command as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth, the eventual return to power of the
Royalists and the coronation of King Charles II in 1660. However, the tumultuous political
atmosphere of the recent decades left its mark on every citizen of the kingdoms. One of these
citizens, Andrew Marvell s, conflictual world view seems unmistakably the product of the
unsettled civil war decades (1366 early 17th century intro). Andrew Marvell was a noted scholar,
a tutor to General Fairfax s daughter (a foe of Cromwell during the English Civil wars) and
eventually became a member of Parliament. He is known for his ambiguous writings and elusive
rhetoric; perhaps a defensive gesture to hide his true opinions from the public (Norton Anthology of
English Literature, 1366). The chaotic atmosphere caused much fear in the citizens as any criticism
of the government would be an affront and the punishment was often arrest and execution. Marvell,
having a secure position as tutor to Cromwell s General s daughter and then to Cromwell s own

Spanish Conquest Of Honduras Essay
In the early history the spanish arrived to colonize Honduras. The land was already occupied by a
variety of indigenous people, who were the Maya. In the 16th century, gold stimulated Spanish
conquest of the area. Gracias, the Honduran gold mining town, became the capital of Spanish
Central America in 1544. However, by 1548 the Spaniards drained the gold.
In the 1570s, a silver strike in the highland brought explorers to Honduras. This resulted in the
ascend of an important centre at Tegucigalpa and especially in the 18th century, with Comayagua.
Agriculture, which is the enduring economic base in Central America, was slow to develop in
Honduras. The evolution of the spanish society in the Honduran area was prevented by the coastal
attacks from the pirates and buccaneers to the Caribbean Sea. The British took effort to take over
the coastal areas of Central America. For long periods of time Spanish used soft defense towards

Theme Of First Love By William Clare
William Shakespeare s sonnet 116 The Marriage of True Minds is one of his most famous poem
that he ever written. The main theme of the poem is about true love and showing how the author
disseminated his thoughts about the elevated quality of love.
The author started his first quatrain with the statement Let me not to the marriage of true minds .
With the declaration, the readers may surmise that the poem is referring to a married couple. Yet,
the author is metaphorically used the phrase to indicate the theme of the poem true love.
Importantly, we noticed minds has been chosen as the symbol for their love instead of heart or

Burge s Arthritis And Social Externalism
Externalism is understood as a thesis about how contents of thoughts are individuated. More
specifically, social externalism refers to the doctrine that the meaning of an item is determined
partly by social factors and the thinker s community. Social externalism focuses on the thinker
themselves, questioning the conditions that determine someone s thoughtof a particular content (Lau,

Bellevue School District Essay
Bellevue School District (#405) has consistently ranked as one of the top 100 school districts across
the nation. Virtues such as diversity and academic excellence has long defined the success of the
school s district in recent years. However, since 2013 the BSD s national ranking has dropped
significantly and although it s still highly regarded, many have suggested that the increase in
student enrollment has a negative effect on student success due to a larger student to teacher ratio.

With the completion of Wilburton Elementary School, enrollment numbers will significantly
decrease at the elementary schools in the northwest corridor of Bellevue. Although Wilburton
will provide relief for certain schools in Bellevue, it isn t a viable long term solution for another
highly populated region, Somerset. The regions surrounding Somerset has one of the largest
populations under 18 at 24.27%, and a potential to rise even higher, hence the high enrollment
numbers in the south corridor of Bellevue. The proposed elementary school* would be able to
reduce enrollment numbers in Newport Heights, Woodridge, Somerset, Eastgate, Lake Hills and

Causes Of Rising Student Debt

future. In their article Why Free Higher Ed Can t Wait Jeje Biola and Belinda Rodriguez state
that, Student debt has reached a record total of over $1.3 trillion (6). This has left many people

These have been hot topics for sometime now but little seems to have happened so far in
regards to legislation and actual action. In the eyes of many free college is nothing more than a
dream at the moment and who could blame them, for alas the government is taking their time, in
no hurry to swiftly respond to the pleas of citizens. However there was a plan in the works that
Catherine Morris describes in her article Pay It Forward . She states, Obama proposed funding
Americas College Promise to the tune of $60 billion and paying for it with a series of taxes
including one controversial and short lived proposal to tax 529 college savings plans (13). This
shows that the government has some willingness to approach the issue, but most likely they have
found that it is going to be more difficult than imagined to apply reform in this area. Another plan
that is currently in use and has a controversial funding method is the Tennessee Promise which
supports college students who are going to attend community colleges for shorter lengths such as
two years. The gray areas start to come in with the funding. Scholarships for four year students are
cut to help students who will be in college for less time and who will subsequently acquire more
debt. Despite these criticisms they are a step in the right direction even if they lay on some
unsteady framework.

The Most Important Decisions Of Your College Career
Choosing a major is of the most important decisions of your college career and that s why
students start sweating profusely when it s brought up. The life and career advice to follow
your love, follow your passion, or follow your bliss, as different people call this thing out there,
just patiently waiting ahead of you, has been the favorite and most quoted catch phrase and
generic career advice, given by the all knowing Gurus of life, to all the newbie s starting out in
life. Our passion for a particular job, industry or profession is not immediately found at the
beginning of our path, but recognized somewhere in the middle of our path. Finding a passion is
a lifetime activity that we get to practice in college in finding a major where we can revel in
something that engages us at our best. Then the world will offer opportunities to work in areas that
may become our passions that were never even on the radar screen. Steve Jobsand Cal Newport
have very different perspective on legitimacy of follow your heart concept s application to
finding your passion. Follow your heart is dangerous and limiting career advice. Passion is not
something you follow. It s something that will follow you as you put in the hard work to become
valuable to the world. American educational culture is obsessed with the idea that we need to find
our passion in order to be happy and successful doing the job you love. The title of Steve Jobs

Homeostasis Essay
Homeostasis Homeostasis is defined as the maintenance of a constant internal environment. This is
very important for organisms because:
· Chemical reactions can take place at predictable rates.
· Mechanisms are more efficient as optimum conditions can be maintained for enzymes, etc.
· Organisms can acquire a degree of independence from the environment. They need not be
limited to one geological location where the conditions fit their needs, but can spread out. Their
activity is also not restricted to a certain time, season, etc.

Fat Metabolism:
* Lipids entering the liver may either be broken down or modified for transport to storage areas
elsewhere in the body.
* Excess cholesterol in the blood is excreted into the bile by the liver, which conversely can
synthesize cholesterol when that absorbed by the intestines is inadequate for the body s need.
Breakdown of Erythrocytes:
* The liver breaks down red blood cells at the end of their 120 day life span.
* The Kupffer cells lining the sinusoids carry out this breakdown, producing the bile pigment
bilirubin which is excreted in the bile.
* Iron from red blood cells is either stored in the liver or used in the formation of new blood cells
by the bone marrow.
Detoxification:
* The liver renders harmless or removes toxic materials absorbed by the intestines.
* Kupffer cells ingest foreign organisms or material, while toxic chemicals (e.g. alcohol, nicotine)
are made safe by chemical conversions within hepatocytes.
Deamination of Amino Acids:

The New York Times By Catherine Rampell
The momentum of obsolescence became increasingly stronger as the decades passed, and in
contemporary society, the dynamics of planned, technological, and psychological obsolescence is
unmistakable. Today, products are made of faulty parts, and have become gradually more
expensive to repair. Consumers are now forced to weigh up the price of repair alongside the price
of a replacement, giving them little choice but to pick the easier alternative and replace the item.
An example of this modern triad of obsolescencecan be seen within the Apple Conspiracy , where it
is alleged that Apple releases software updates for iPhones that instead of enhancing the
performance of the phone as promised, actually degrade it by making the phone slow, and decrease
the battery life. Coincidentally, this often occurs when the newest model of the iPhoneis released,
prompting frustrated users to either upgrade their phone, or deal with a degraded product. The
conspiracy s major mainstream moment was an article in the New York Times by Catherine
Rampell:
At first, I thought it was my imagination. Around the time the iPhone 5S and 5C were released, in
September, I noticed my sad old iPhone 4 was becoming a lot more sluggish. The battery was
starting to run down much faster, too. But the same thing seemed to be happening to a lot of
people who, like me, swear by their Apple products. When I called tech analysts, they said that the

After Child Abuse
A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. David Pelzer wrote two books named A Child

the situation. It had motivated me to want to research and discover more about the topic. Sadly, I
found out that child abuseis still a big issue today. It s very important that people know after all
the horrendous effects after child abuse, it can all be controlled to live a life just like anyone

The condition that a person s physical health is in, has a key factor for their future and
upcoming health. The Child Welfare Foundation looked into impaired brain development and
found the following, Child abuse and neglect have been shown to cause important regions of the
brain to fail to form or grow properly resulting in impaired development (4). This will affect the
choices that are being made throughout adult years. Very commonly on abused children you can
visually see the wounds from beatings. Common effects observed in children who have been
physically or sexually abused are bruises, welts or swelling (Joyful Heart Foundation 2). The
noticeable injuries on the child like bruises and swellings will eventually disappear but the pain of
them should never be discounted. An additional main conflict in a child who has been abused is
head trauma. ... Abusive head trauma is the most common cause of traumatic death for infants. The
injuries may not be immediately noticeable and may include bleeding in the eye or brain and
damage to the spinal cord and neck (Child welfare Foundation 4). Abusive head trauma has a
massive effect on the head, that can continue to leave an effect on the child until an adult. Impaired

Batman An Auteur Analysis
The question at hand states, In evaluating a film, should we interpret and evaluate it by considering
how the film is the creative work of a single author or auteur? (Yenter, Essay Information ).
Understanding my claim requires an understanding of what an auteur is. The original auteur theory
is the idea that the director is the sole author of the film. There are three different strategies that are
typically used to argue for the theory of single authorship. Those strategies are as follows: the
restriction strategy, the sufficient control strategy, and the construction strategy. By assessing these
various strategies attempting to defend single authorship as well as assessing the poststructuralist
theory, I will show how the director alone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Harry Potter movies have not been evaluated based on the work of the director(s). According to
the auteur theory, each of the movies would need to be evaluated and interpreted based on the
creative work of the director each specific movie. This would be as if we are saying each Harry
Potter movie is separate and distinct from the Harry Potter movies created by a different
director. As Harry Potter is meant to be evaluated and interpreted as a unified series, the auteur
theory interpretation would make utterly no sense. Obviously, by using Harry Potter as an
example, many opponents would make that claim that J.K. Rowling wrote the books. Even if
we can compare literature to film and J.K. Rowling is also said to be the author of the films, she
is not the director. But because of her role in creating these novels, she had a say in how the
movies portrayed them, and in some cases, similar to Thor, her vision overruled the director s
vision. As intertextuality makes clear, films are collaborative efforts, not the sole work of the

Musical Infant Development
My reaction to the musical infant and their musical abilities is that in spite of the studies already
made, still there are unresolved questions. One issue in discussion for example is if an infant can
hear in the womb. Indeed, even in the womb there is proof that babies react to a wide range of
sound. Medical studies have concluded that a fetus can hear from the third semester. In a 1980
testing Anthony J. De Casper and William P. Fifer found that some rudimentary cognition starts at
this point and a close connection with the mother as well.
Besides, the inclination that infants have for music have a hereditary component and an additional
environmental factor (Trehub, 2001). There are behaviors present in the baby that demonstrate that
they are not inactive audience members, they deliver their own particular coordinated sounds
moving head and limbs in light of specific sounds. This is particularly genuine when there is

The similarities, assuming any, between the two are that both are sound related and musical to
some degree. Both language and music have rules that must be followed in order to make musical

association then in the minds of numerous individuals that there is prosody in speech (a
characteristic ascent and fall of the voice and rhythmic qualities). This is like components in music.
As per Jusczyk and Hohne, The latter half of the infant s first year is a critical point in acquiring a

Parents hold low expectations for their daughters and teach them to to be obedient at a young age
because sons were seen as a greater asset. Filial piety, the important virtue and primary duty of
respect, obedience, and care for one s parents and elderly family members, plays a key role in a
parent s preference for males (Dictionary.com). Daughters are usually married off, whereas sons
not only carry on the family s household name, but are expected to take care of their parents in the
future. It is a repaid debt for the amount of work parents put into providing food, shelter, clothes,
and education. Although, it is expected of parents to care for their children, China only allows one
child per family unless the parents are granted a permit. Therefore, parents continue to exercise sex
selective abortion because of filial piety and the mindset that sons dominate over daughters. In
Chinese, filial piety is expressed by the character еќ (pinyin: xiГ o). The character xiao is made up
of an upper and a lower part. The first part is derived from the character lao (иЂЃ,pinyin: lЗЋo),
which means old . The second part is the character еђ (pinyin: zi), which means son (Teon, China

Ages, the nobility of many cultures had large fortifications built to house a small town as well
as themselves. These fortification were called castles, and they were so well defended that
some historians have called it the most formidable weapon of medieval warfare (Hull 1). As one
can imagine, conquering such a colossal structure cost much money, even more time, and many
lives. There were three main ways to infiltrate a castle; each no more common than the other
two. The first way to conquer to castle is known as the siege. In a siege, an army would bar
passageways into the castle, and continue to pound away at the castle s defenses until it was
vulnerable to a final attack. In this form of assault, the attacking party did not have to approach
the castle, as was required in a storm, the second way to attack a castle. In a siege, large
projectiles from catapults often bombarded the ramparts of the castle. Hunger, plague, or actual
weapons such as Greek fire arrows killed off the defenders of the castle. Greek fire was a mixture
comprised of highly flammable substances that was agonizingly hot. Bits of cloth were dipped into
the Greek fire compound and wrapped it behind the head of an arrow, and then lit on fire. Yet
another common tactic in the siege was undermining. Undermining was the digging of tunnels
underneath towers. However, the purposes of such

admire people who manage to overcome this, and do the right thing. Upon first glance, we may
not be able to distinguish which type of people have this trait; however, this trait is necessary to

Mr. Know All , the narrator s view of Mr. Kelada changed from one of immense vexation at the
start to one of great appreciation by the end of the story because of his actions. At the beginning
of the story, the narrator is prejudiced against Mr. Kelada before he has even met him. For
instance, when looking at his luggage, the narrator stated with disgust that, the wardrobe trunk
was too big. The narrator seems to despise how Mr. Kelada packed his belongings since a normal
sized wardrobe trunk is already quite large enough to begin with. Mr. Kelada s lack of
properness and his lack of containment of himself and the trunk annoyed the narrator as a typical
Englishman during this time period would not have packed so many things for just a fourteen
day voyage. In addition, later in the paragraph, the narrator notices Mr. Kelada s toiletries and
suggests, [they] would have all the better for a scrub, and then immediately says, I did not at all
like Mr. Kelada. At first sight of his belongings, he already has a strong opinion on someone solely

The 1970 s In The United States

Reaction Paper On Bungee Jumping

Dante Mattson 11 Physics

!
Bungee Jumping is an extreme sport, it requires the participant to jump from a bridge, crane or
other high place while secured at the ankles with a nylon cased rubber band. From the mere sight
of someone Bungee Jumping, one might assume that the act is very dangerous for obvious
reasons, for example: The rope breaking there s nothing to save you down there, so why do so
many people put their lives in a piece of elastic? Bungee Jumping relies on the restoring force of the
elastic to protect the jumper from the fall below. Because of the Law of Conservation of Energy, the
gravitational potential energy at the top of the jump is converted to elastic potential energy at the
bottom of the jump. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would show that it would potentially be life threatening to use the wrong material in real
bungee jumping. It was proven that the elastic based cord (green) would be most suitable for
bungee jumping. This is because the force exerted is more spaced out, and allows for a softer
drop to equilibrium, rather than a violent, potentially deadly faster stop. The gradual restoring
force is essential to bungee jumping. To come to a safe stop, restoring force is needed. Without
said force, the force of the person jumping would be applied directly to the rope / elastic, causing
it to potentially break and the person to fall. The rebound phase, consisting of dampened
oscillatory motion, safely decreases the velocity of the jumper. The Galilean paradigm of the
motion of constant masses, states every acceleration must be produced by a force. Bungee
jumping is proof of this physics concept. When the person jumps, the gravity produces
acceleration on the body, forcing the person down, and the rope attached with it. The restoring
oscillations act upon the body to dampen the downwards forces. Because the Hooke s Law
equation will deviate when the elastic fails, at a certain applied force; as materials cannot be
compressed beyond a minimum size, or extended beyond a maximum size. The modern theory of
elasticity generalises to state that the strain or deformation of an elastic material is proportional
to the stress applied to it. Hooke s Law is crucial to this EEI because Hooke s Law calculates the
extension of an elastic material from the spring constant (k) and the change in x, also known as
∆x and will determine the safest alternative for use in Bungee

Biological Macromolecules Research Paper
Macromolecules are huge molecules that are formed when smaller molecules collide into each
other which created a much bigger one. It usually happens when a condensation reaction occurs.
Macromolecules are also referred as polymers, poly meaning many. The way I remember the
word macromolecules was when my High School biology teacher referred Mac in
macromolecules as the Big Mac from McDonalds, which is supposed to be bigger than other
burgers. Everything has macromolecules in them, such as plastic, rubber and even diamonds! There
are four classes of Biological Macromolecules, Protein, Nucleic Acids, Carbohydrates and Lipids.
Proteins are one of the biological macromolecules. They are composed when smaller sections

The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy Essay
The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy
The poem entitled The Darkling Thrush, written by Thomas Hardy, has a very appealing
connotation. The work can be separated into two parts; the dismal part pertaining to the beginning
of winter and the second part focusing on one small aspect of good in all of the dismal
surrounding it. The general idea of the poem is that the dismal winter is approaching, but there are
some incidences of goodness in this depressing time.
The first part can be sectioned into the first and second stanzas. The poem opens with I leant upon a
coppice gate. This is the moment when the author enters the small wood and begins to narrate his
thoughts and feelings. The next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third stanza is where everything seems to turn around. As the narrator seems to be sitting in
this small wood, they seem to see a thrush, which is a small bird. Lines eighteen through twenty
seem to explain this very simply. They state, At once a voice arouse…in a full hearted
evening song. This tells the reader that under all of this gloom, there is one living aspect and that is
this bird.
The fourth and final stanza tells the reader the narrator s new feelings on the winter months. This is
best summed up in the last two lines of the poem. They state, Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
and I was unaware. This states that the narrator feels that winter will soon be ending and the tiny
little thrush showed the narrator this. The narrator now knows that there is a hope of the summer
months coming.
The theme of the poem is to find good meaning in everything and that good is always present in
everything. God does things for a reason and the good may not always be immediately visible,
but it is there and it is our job to search it out. In the case of the poem, the narrator now knows that
the warmer seasons will return to again bring joy and life to everyone.
The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy is a poem written in December of the year 1900. This
coincides with the themes of the poem itself, being a sadness

Benefits Of A Paid Maternity Leave
Paid maternity leave is a specific period of time allotted by one s employer in which a woman is
able to be on paid leave after having a child. Most, if not all developed countries in the world offer
paid maternity leave to it s expectant women. However, paid maternity leave is considered a
privilege, not a right in the United Statesand it is not mandated to be offered by employers.
Although the length of paid leavevaries from country to country, it is evident that countries
around the world see value in giving women time with their new children while maintaining
financial stability. The most common form of maternity leave around the world includes around
12 weeks of paid leave of some sort which is usually mandated by the country s government,
while the United States is one of three developed countries in the world who do not have
mandated paid maternity leave laws in place. According to the Institute for Women s Policy
Research, 3 out of 4 people, or 76% of the U.S. population, would like to see policies in place
mandating paid maternity leave. This essay will discuss paid maternity leave in great detail
touching upon the history of maternity leave, the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, the
components of generalized maternity leave, how other countries utilize this policy, and how the
U.S can benefit from it, along with other agains.
HISTORY OF MATERNAL LEAVE
Although maternity leave has been an issue of debate in various countries since the 1900 s, the
1970 s was

Leonardo Da Vinci s The Last Supper
A well known painting by Leonardo da Vinci would be a mural painting known as the Last
Supper. This mural was created during 1495 to 1498 in Milan by Leonardo da Vinci. It was
requested by Ludovico Sforza, who during that time, was the Duke of Milan. The Last Supper has
been an influential historic piece of art, according to Sundt, the most famous portrayal is Leonardo
da Vincis 15 ft. Г— 29ft mural The Last Supper, one of the most recognizable pieces of art in
history (Sundt 1). During the creation of this master piece, a lot of thought and focus went towards
the final work, including the symmetry. Goethe states that the layout and construction is a,

This event is, according to Sundt, one of the most well known and referenced events thus tells
the story of his final night as a man of flesh and blood (Sundt 1). In the mural what is being told
is Christ and his Disciples all gathered over a table, and here Jesus blesses the wine and the cup
in the ceremony of the Eucharist, he claims that one of his 12 apostles will betray him, and he
gives a final sermon or farewell discourse (Sundt 1). Placing such a historic event on an oil mural,
took the early Renaissance to a different level of tradition in that certain field. Since Leonardo da
Vinci is an Italian Renaissance man, within the painting, many clues and hints are found, but back
then only a couple of other Italians would be understanding his methods. One of the methods
used in the Last Supper was a happy device, which according to Goethe was, the motion of the
hands the whole body is full of animation; every limb participates in the expression of feeling, of
passion, even of thought (Goethe 243). The hand movements of Christ and the others allowed da
Vinci to communicate in a manner, where words could not be sufficient. In the Last Supper
masterpiece, every characteristic and trait was closely observed by Leonardo da Vinci and each
one corresponds as a painting all together. All the Disciples are placed on each side of Christ as a
symbolic meaning and the importance

Metal Band Misconceptions
Misconceptions about Rock and Metal Bands.
Only talks about death? Screams all the time? Lyrics mean nothing? If the first thing you thought
of was a band you believe all those common misconceptions. How would you know if you refuse
to try and listen to it? Most people choose not to go out on a limb and give this music a chance
because they have a paranoia that it is evil. Kids who wear black and listen to rock music aren t
all satan worshippers or terrible people. ~Andy Biersack. There is no reason that this music
shouldn t be respected by society.
Where did the misconception that rock and metal bands have meaningless lyrics come from? In
fact, rock and metal bands tend to have deeper and more relatable lyrics than some(not all)songs
that everyone seems to enjoy. An example is that one set of lyrics in a black veil brides song called
never give in is Never give in, Never back down. When your life seems lost, fight against all odds.
Compared to Kanye West s song I am a God where he sings I just talked to Jesus, He said what s up

That misconception was caused when someone had mistaken death metal or deathcore for a metal
or rock song. Rock and metal songs almost never talk about death but when they do they are
telling their listeners that suicide is never the answer and that instead of hurting yourself listen to
their music. Rock and metal has actually reduced suicide rates by 89% When people hurt you over
and over, think of them as sandpaper. They may scratch and hurt you now but in the end you end
up polished and they end up useless. Andy stands up against bullying as do most bands which helps
assist them in the feeling that they belong and can recuperate to make it better in the end. These
bands reassure the pain now will only make you stronger in the

For good breastfeeding technique, as it encourages the baby s mouth is positioned at the height of
the areola, which prevents problems that may result from improper suction: from irritation or pain
in the nipple cracking up or down milk production, among others.
Disadvantages of nursing pillow
However, the latter advantage can become disadvantage since, according to the physique of the
mother, the pad may be too high and leave the baby facing the breast evil. Or even can take place at
small lying on it in completely horizontal position, with the body facing the ceiling, which
ultimately lead to adopt a forced position, which is what we try to avoid the nursing pillow .
Therefore, it is crucial to stay alert to the good positioning of the baby.
Another drawback may be that the mother get used to breastfeeding with pad and when you are

Bald Eagle Research Paper
Have you ever thought of bald eagles not being around anymore in this century? Some people must
ve thought about this when they couldn t see their national bird flying around or caught on camera.
Maybe the everyday things they were doing were harming the poor birds? The first way, people
noticed the everyday things is that the government banned DDT, the pesticide that was used to kill
insects, was killing the eaglesfood chain. For example, in the first passage in paragraph 4, it says
that while it did kill pests, DDT also got into the food chain and eagles ate contaminated fish and
other pray. And in another sentence it explains how DDT was also harming the eagles eggs, so it
was harming their babies too. This example shows that

How Is Led Zeppelin Unique
Led Zeppelin was a 60 s and 70 s hard rock group. Many consider them to be pioneers of modern
day heavy metal and hard rock. The band made many leaps in music and influenced many other
musicians of the times and today.
Led Zeppelin didn t just turn into Led Zeppelin overnight. The band was formed from members
of different bands which allowed for sharing of different musical ideas and concepts which
overall made them unique. The band has its origins in Great Britain. Jimmy Page a member of
the Yardbirds replaced the bassist but was soon on lead guitar. Page and Beck, the other guitarist,
had a dual lead guitar line up. Page wanted to form a super band with him and Beck as lead
guitarist but the group never formed. The YardBirds played their... Show more content on

Page was introduced to Robert Plant for a lead singer, John Bonham as a drummer and John
Paul Jones on Bass. The four played together for the first time in a room below a record store on

jump blues song popularised in a rockabilly version by Johnny Burnette, which had been covered
by the Yardbirds. As soon as I heard John Bonham play, Jones recalled, I knew this was going to
be great ... We locked together as a team immediately . (Led Zeppelin) The four finished the
Scandinavian tour together. The band began recording their new album but they were forced to
change their name due to a cease and desist letter stating that Page could only use the name
YardBirds for the already completed Scandinavian concerts. One account of how the new band s
name was chosen held that Moon and Entwistle had suggested that a super group with Page and
Beck would go down like a lead balloon , an idiom for disastrous results. The group dropped the a
in lead at the suggestion of their manager, Peter Grant, so that those unfamiliar with the term
would not pronounce it leed . The word balloon was swapped for zeppelin , a word which,

Events That Have Shaped America
Many events that occurred in the 1960s to late 1970s are important factors as to how Americans
view their country and society as they know it today. Events like the creation of the Internet in
1969, or the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, Watergate in 1973, and even the 26th
Amendment in 1971 are very substantial to the formation of America and how they deal with
certain situations ( 7.01 Timeline ). However, the most important factor that has shaped America is
Martin Luther King Jr. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929, he was the son of Martin
Luther King Sr.a Baptist pastor there. Martin also attended Booker T. Washington High School and
Morehouse College. Martin Luther King Jr. is also most famous for his speech on the... Show more

similar upbringing just like other kids around him, the only difference was the occupations of
his parentals. His mother was a schoolteacher and his father was a Southern Baptist Minister, this
did not leave him with many advantages. ( Bio.com ). He must have struggled in other subjects
and skills. No one was perfect, even the pastor s son. Even though his education was influenced
by religion, as well as how he was raised, he decided at an early age to pursue a career in
medicine or law. However, after attending Morehouse College, he became determined to become a
Minister like his father ( Martin Luther ). Martin grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as thousands
of other African American children. He was just one out of thousands that could have made a
difference. Every child goes through hard times, and King was no exception.Once King decided to
follow his father s footsteps and study to be a Minister,he graduated Morehouse College in 1948 he
applied to Crozer Theological Seminary.( Martin Luther ). At this point in American History, not

State Park Research Paper
UConn economics professor, Fred Carastensen, ran a study on the economic value of state parks
and forests in Connecticut. The results of the study found that over $500 million in state
revenue related to tourism, around $200 million from fishing, and just about $100 million from
hunting. Many do not realize how beneficial state parks and forests are for people and a state s
economy. Hundreds of people are employed by the state park system to maintain all of the parks
and forests throughout the state. Parks and forests provide hundreds of people with the
availability to exercise outdoors and stay active with their lives. They also provide wildlife
habitats for many different species of animals and allow them to coexist with people in our world....

This plan will reduce the hours at some parks and campgrounds, change the end of the summer
season to Labor Day instead of October, and defer maintenance at park facilities. This will also
cause many of the smaller state parks throughout Connecticut to close, because there is just not
enough money in the budget to maintain them all. Public concerns on environmental issues have
been an up and down ride throughout history, but once many people start to show serious interest
in a topic, more tend to step up with them. As more and more people start to step up and voice
their views on the budget cuts, the more attention is being brought towards the issue. Action needs
to be taken, so Governor Malloy does not cut such a significant amount from our state parks and
forest budget. He needs to realize how valuable and important the state parks and forests are to our

It is the reward you receive for multiple years of difficult work and perseverance. It is also an extremely bittersweet occasion because often times you are required to make difficult decisions. Decisions that could take you away from everyone and everything you have ever known. This is known as a timeof transition. Honestly, it seems a bit anticlimactic that after all the emotions and preparation you do beforehand is all summarized within a few short hours. This is how the majority of my fellow upcoming graduates are feeling right now, but I do not. I believe that in order to better understand these monumental occasions of transition, you must first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During high school you form both positive and negative relationships with people and learn a various assortment of life lessons. If I challenged myself to choose my top three picks on what life lessons I have learned I would say freedom, responsibility, and tolerance. I say that I have learned the lesson of freedom simply owing to the fact that this was my first taste of freedom. When you receive your driver s license and car or you are able to date for the first time you feel the absolutely exhilarating unbridled feeling of freedom. This feeling blossoms and flourishes for only a moment, because then it has company. Freedom is joined by the always rational and logical emotion responsibility. Responsibility is like the notification that forces you to go home in time for your curfew or the friend you forces you to stop at the stop sign or to not drink and drive. When freedom and responsibility work together, you are safe and you also have a great time growing up. When the two emotions combine together your chances of living to adulthood increase dramatically. The last life lesson I chose is most definitely not the least important. I have become more tolerant of not only people and their decisions but also with circumstances. This was not only the most difficult lesson I have had to learn, but it is the lesson that I am most thankful for due to the fact that I know that I will use it more and more frequently as I enter into the real world . ... He is unable to find proof and therefore comes to the conclusion that God must not exist. He believes that the existence of evil discredits arguments made in support of believing in God. There is not one single thing in this world that we can know definitively without looking at the evidence. You have to look at the whole picture. When you look at each of the arguments individually I can see how one might come to this conclusion. The cosmological argument only proves (if accepted) that there is a necessary being; however it does not prove that he is divine or perfect. The teleological argument by itself leaves us wondering why we also see chaos in the world around us. Not everything is orderly and perfect. You need to collectively look at each of the arguments prior to coming to a conclusion about the existence of God. McCloskey believes that because there is evil there is no God. There could be valid reasons for the presence of evil in the world, though some may beyond our comprehension and understanding. There needs to be some proof or evidence provided if one wants to make a claim that it s illogical for God and evil to exist in the same world. McCloskey s article does not provide this proof. He just says that because there is evil there is no God. As parents we sometimes allow bad things to happen to our children to teach them a lesson. We make a choice to allow them to deal with the consequences of their actions so they might learn from that experience. If we are created in the image of God isn t it possible that as our Father, he allows us to suffer sometimes to realize the consequences of our actions? It is possible and if it s possible then it gives a good explanation why God may allow evil things to occur. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Who Is Martin Luther King On Christian Liberty The battle for liberty has been fought on different scales with the beginning of thousands of revolutions in the history. The ideal liberty is an ultimate goal that inflames the minds of many people who yearn for individual freedom. In all these struggles, the definition of liberty is not the same for different people. According to the text, the idea of liberty has played a powerful role in the history of Western society and culture, but the meaning and understanding of liberty has undergone continual change and interpretation. For example in the Roman world, liberty meant the condition of being a free man. In the Middle Ages, liberty meant having special privileges or rights. However, the idea of liberty under religious dimension was rather new. Martin LutherKing had interpreted another important foundation of liberty in his treatise On Christian Liberty: the important of faith and Scripture to Christian life. King meant of liberty was based not on articulation of justification by faith alone but through the word of Gospel. Perhaps, people should have liberty in terms of their connection to God not controlled or managed by the Church. King understood human liberty, broadly, as the capacity for a spiritual, new and inward man to make a man a justified, free and true Christian. According to King, Christian man is the most free lord of all, and subject to none. Of course, faith gives us true Christian liberty. We are free from the law as regards our salvation. ... • 13. Andrew Marvell s `` Conflictual World View `` Essay By 1642, England had descended into chaos as civil war ravaged the country. King Charles I had dissolved Parliament in 1629 thus making the King vastly unpopular throughout his dominion. After reestablishing the Parliament in 1640, Oliver Cromwell was elected amidst ensuing popularity as a religious, talented military man, who supported an agenda for radical reforms (Britannica). The wars ended with the following outcomes: Charles I beheaded, Cromwell soon in command as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth, the eventual return to power of the Royalists and the coronation of King Charles II in 1660. However, the tumultuous political atmosphere of the recent decades left its mark on every citizen of the kingdoms. One of these citizens, Andrew Marvell s, conflictual world view seems unmistakably the product of the unsettled civil war decades (1366 early 17th century intro). Andrew Marvell was a noted scholar, a tutor to General Fairfax s daughter (a foe of Cromwell during the English Civil wars) and eventually became a member of Parliament. He is known for his ambiguous writings and elusive rhetoric; perhaps a defensive gesture to hide his true opinions from the public (Norton Anthology of English Literature, 1366). The chaotic atmosphere caused much fear in the citizens as any criticism of the government would be an affront and the punishment was often arrest and execution. • 23. The New York Times By Catherine Rampell The momentum of obsolescence became increasingly stronger as the decades passed, and in contemporary society, the dynamics of planned, technological, and psychological obsolescence is unmistakable. Today, products are made of faulty parts, and have become gradually more expensive to repair. Consumers are now forced to weigh up the price of repair alongside the price of a replacement, giving them little choice but to pick the easier alternative and replace the item. An example of this modern triad of obsolescencecan be seen within the Apple Conspiracy , where it is alleged that Apple releases software updates for iPhones that instead of enhancing the performance of the phone as promised, actually degrade it by making the phone slow, and decrease the battery life. Coincidentally, this often occurs when the newest model of the iPhoneis released, prompting frustrated users to either upgrade their phone, or deal with a degraded product. The conspiracy s major mainstream moment was an article in the New York Times by Catherine Rampell: At first, I thought it was my imagination. Around the time the iPhone 5S and 5C were released, in September, I noticed my sad old iPhone 4 was becoming a lot more sluggish. The battery was starting to run down much faster, too. But the same thing seemed to be happening to a lot of people who, like me, swear by their Apple products. There are three different strategies that are typically used to argue for the theory of single authorship. As Harry Potter is meant to be evaluated and interpreted as a unified series, the auteur theory interpretation would make utterly no sense. Obviously, by using Harry Potter as an example, many opponents would make that claim that J.K. Rowling wrote the books. Even if we can compare literature to film and J.K. One issue in discussion for example is if an infant can hear in the womb. Indeed, even in the womb there is proof that babies react to a wide range of sound. Medical studies have concluded that a fetus can hear from the third semester. In a 1980 testing Anthony J. De Casper and William P. Fifer found that some rudimentary cognition starts at this point and a close connection with the mother as well. Besides, the inclination that infants have for music have a hereditary component and an additional environmental factor (Trehub, 2001). Daughters are usually married off, whereas sons not only carry on the family s household name, but are expected to take care of their parents in the future. These fortification were called castles, and they were so well defended that some historians have called it the most formidable weapon of medieval warfare (Hull 1). As one can imagine, conquering such a colossal structure cost much money, even more time, and many lives. There were three main ways to infiltrate a castle; each no more common than the other two. The first way to conquer to castle is known as the siege. In a siege, an army would bar passageways into the castle, and continue to pound away at the castle s defenses until it was vulnerable to a final attack. In this form of assault, the attacking party did not have to approach the castle, as was required in a storm, the second way to attack a castle. In a siege, large projectiles from catapults often bombarded the ramparts of the castle. Hunger, plague, or actual weapons such as Greek fire arrows killed off the defenders of the castle. Greek fire was a mixture comprised of highly flammable substances that was agonizingly hot. Bits of cloth were dipped into the Greek fire compound and wrapped it behind the head of an arrow, and then lit on fire. Yet another common tactic in the siege was undermining. From the mere sight of someone Bungee Jumping, one might assume that the act is very dangerous for obvious reasons, for example: The rope breaking there s nothing to save you down there, so why do so many people put their lives in a piece of elastic? Bungee Jumping relies on the restoring force of the elastic to protect the jumper from the fall below. Because of the Law of Conservation of Energy, the gravitational potential energy at the top of the jump is converted to elastic potential energy at the bottom of the jump. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would show that it would potentially be life threatening to use the wrong material in real bungee jumping. It was proven that the elastic based cord (green) would be most suitable for bungee jumping. This is because the force exerted is more spaced out, and allows for a softer drop to equilibrium, rather than a violent, potentially deadly faster stop. The gradual restoring force is essential to bungee jumping. To come to a safe stop, restoring force is needed. Without said force, the force of the person jumping would be applied directly to the rope / elastic, causing it to potentially break and the person to fall. The rebound phase, consisting of dampened oscillatory motion, safely decreases the velocity of the jumper. The Galilean paradigm of the motion of constant masses, states every acceleration must be produced by a force. Bungee jumping is proof of this physics concept. When the person jumps, the gravity produces acceleration on the body, forcing the person down, and the rope attached with it. The restoring oscillations act upon the body to dampen the downwards forces. Because the Hooke s Law equation will deviate when the elastic fails, at a certain applied force; as materials cannot be compressed beyond a minimum size, or extended beyond a maximum size. The modern theory of elasticity generalises to state that the strain or deformation of an elastic material is proportional to the stress applied to it.
