His fields and education
Skinner was a prolific author; he had more than 200 articles and 20 books related to psychology,
so he was a psychologist and a writer. His first encounters with behavioral science was after
attending Hamilton College, where he decided to become a writer, he loved what he did and was
impressed by it. At Hamilton College he felt that he didn t fit in with others, he didn t party or
hang out with other students. However he graduated in 1926 with his BA in English. Skinner
worked in writing newspapers and articles, but didn t feel that he was such a success in what he
was doing.
He resigned and decided to pursue a different direction in his life. He went back to studying but
this time in Harvard University to study Psychology, he got his masters and doctorate and stayed
there to do researches and finally he graduated in 1936.
Because he chose the psychology field he had many theories and experiments that changed our
world today and introduced new systems that were revolutionary to the world of psychology and
how we study people.

of reward and punishment, this basically explains the theories of B.F Skinner. He believed in his

Inhumanity In The Book Thief
The Book Thief is a historical novel written by Markus Zusak. It provides the readers a deeper
understanding of the lives of Jews and Germans in Germany during the brutal Nazi regime and
how they manage to survive. This includes not only the physical survival of the fittest, but also
the survival of their moral beliefs. In addition to the author s theme of inhumanity and humanity
of man, he provides a background story for the characters in the book and how they are similar
and different by their moral beliefs, their goals, their guilt, and their relationship with words. Two
of the characters that are mentioned throughout the book to remind the readers of their struggles
to survive in the Third Reich are Liesel and Max. Liesel is the foster daughter of Hans and Rosa
Hubermann and the book thief who realizes the power of words in the Nazi community while
Max is a fist fighter and German Jew who hides in Hans s basement to escape from Nazi
incarceration and eventually survives the concentration camp after he is arrested on his way to
Stuttgart by the Nazis. Liesel and Max can be compared and contrasted through analyzing their
struggles, includes their fear of the death, their guilt of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though they have two different family backgrounds and reactions with regard to the struggles
they face, both of them strive to fit into the Nazi regime to avoid incarceration and death.
Therefore, they are haunted by the guilt of leaving their families for survival through having
nightmares. While Max shows his defiance against the Nazi regime through daydreaming about
boxing with Hitler, Liesel publicly defied the Nazi regime through stealing a banned book, and
helping Jews in order to protect the basic morals of humanity. Liesel believes if humans lose
humanity, they would become cold blooded and lose the true meaning of

The Importance Of Religion In Public Education
Religion has always been a major societal force. Though it helped define, shape, and lead cultures
as a prominent component of a well rounded education in the past, in the modern day, we have
discarded religious teaching in public education in favor of progressive, accurate, practical, and
provable knowledge. Most people, including educators, students, and the parental figures of
students, agree that the best way to educate students is in such a manner. The issue, however
surprising, still stands, and is the source of big political discourse throughout the country. Some
states, and some of the political figures that drive the educational system, are in favor of continuing
the in depth studies of religionin the classroom. The people in this group vary, some prefer
sticking to one religion to teach as compared to many. The Knightly Herald s Olivia Godfrey
presents this controversial topic in her article, titled, Why Religion Should Not Be Taught in
Public Schools. In the article, Godfrey defends the idea that religion should be kept out of a
public education, and that rather, religion should be left entirely in the hands of a student s life at
home. Government, be it state or federal, has no place in having a say of what kind of religious
education a student receives. It is a personal and familial matter that differs from person to person,
culture to culture. Godfrey unpacks and addresses, with the help of appeals to common sense, and
familiarity, the various perspectives

Characterisation of Eddie Carbone
A View from the bridge Characterisation: Eddie Carbone Explore the ways a central character is
presented in the drama text. Use examples from the text in your response. Eddie Carbone, a 40
year old Italian American Citizen from Sicily, is the tragic protagonist of A view from the
Bridge by Arthur Miller. Alfieri, the chorus in the story, first introduces Eddie as a good, hard
working man who does normal things like raising a family, eating, getting old, etc. However as
Alfieri states, no one can know what his true self is like. Alfieri prepares us for the discovery of the
secrets in the play. That two illegal immigrants Marco and Rodolfo are taking shelter in Eddies

However Eddie s true motive for preventing Eddie from singing is to stop Catherine from being
amazed by Rodolfo. Eddie s jealousy becomes further exposed as his face is described as being
puffed with trouble in the stage direction where Catherine is making Rodolfo coffee. He is
jealous that Catherine is getting Rodolfo a drink when before Catherine was getting him a beer.
Eddie state of mind is shown when Catherine is talk to Eddie after she has got back from
Brooklyn Paramount with Rodolfo. Catherine has told Eddie that she likes him and the stage
directions show hiswd reaction to this: He looks at her like a lost boy . Eddie feels a sort of
saddened jealousy but he is unable to realize this dishonourable emotion and incapable of
admitting this to himself. He is indeed emotionally lost . Eddie s obsession with Catherine and
his spiteful nature grows throughout the story. He tries to do anything he can to put Catherine of
Rodolfo. In his conversation with Beatrice, Eddie says to her that he is homosexual: Paper Doll

against Rodolfo but ironically everyone turns on him. Eddie tells Catherine that Rodolfo only likes

Depression In Reylvia Plath
Chapter 1 A college student, Esther Greenwood begins the statement about the electrocution in
Rosenberg, including a husband and a wife who were convicted of spying for the Soviet Union
and sentenced to death. She will be working for a month as a guess editor of a fashion magazine.
Other than worrying the life in Rosenberg, she also worries about the fact that she can t be living
the way she wants to be and that she was supposed to be having her own time all by herself. These
worries include not enjoying the parties, new clothes and especially her one month job. This
chapter even established the root of her depression. As seen in the first part of the story, Esther

She even considered the possibility that she may die while skiing, yet after her legs were
broken she wish to do it again. Esther, in this case, have a poor judgment because of her
incapability to realize the effect of certain actions in her body. Chapter 9: The recurrence of
Rosenbergs is evidence from the start of the novel of Sylvia Plath. Esther s horror of concerning
their electrocution foreshadows a bigger horror that will come in her life; receiving
electroshock therapy. The first real breakdown occurs primarily because she is incapable of
making a decision with regards to her career. Faced with decisions in making concrete plans
about what she wants to do eventually lead to unbreakable tears. Once again in this chapter,
Sylvia Plath equates sexuality with violence. This was her encounter with Marco since Marco is
physically threatening Esther and his actions constitute to an attempted rape. However, it is
important to know that Marco is a threat since he held more power than her. Esther even
described Marco as invulnerable because he has this financial and sexual power against her. In
this chapter, Marco was seen to be more violent than Buddy Willard. Plath even provided an
earlier proposal from Buddy Willard; which constitutes to a diamond, symbol of marriage in
exchange for independence. For Esther, this is more violent than what Buddy Willard has done for

My Love Of Dance
It seems like from the moment I could walk, I have had a love for dancing. When I was little,
every chance I got, I would perform in front of my family. Whether I was singing, dancing,
dressing up, or pretending to be a model on the runway, I wanted all the attention on me. When my
mom put me into dance classes, I instantly fell in love with it, because the whole time, I got to do
what I loved the most: perform. As the years went on, dancebecame something I was truly
passionate about, and the lessons I learned from it began to change me. Those lessons and the ones
I am still learning from dance have had a huge impact on me, making me into the person I am today.
When I was little dance was a way to have fun and be a star, and I could show the big outgoing
personality I had, but I became more reserved and shy as I grew up. Throughout intermediate
school and junior high, I remained someone who was an introvert and strayed away from most
social encounters. During this time, dance was something that allowed me to express what I was
feeling, but without words. The few friends I had at the time had been in my life since
kindergarten. Life was very comfortable and easy for me since I had lived in the same place
forever. I didn t want anything to change, and the idea of anything changing scared me. What I
didn t know was that a change would be exactly what I needed.
At the start of high school, my family moved to a new town. This meant making a whole new group
of friends. But how?

How would the world be a better place if everyone lived up to the value presented? This world
today in my opinion could use some manners. If everyone was to be more polite to one another,
our world would be doing bigger and better things then it already has been. Being polite is simply
the act of showing good manners to someone, it s really not that hard to use your please and
thank you, or to even just give a nice little comment to someone. Another right thing to do is to
be kind; holding the door, help someone carries stuff if his or her hands are full, complementing
on some one. The little things like that can brighten someone s day just like that. Being polite
and kind to someone can change their life. The simply words of how are you or you look nice
today can really make someone happy. Those actions can be used anywhere from the basketball
court, to streets, in church, or literally anywhere. The feeling of doing the right thing not only puts
the person you are helping in a good mood but also it may put you in one

Queen Hatshepsut Essay
Queen Hatshepsut
Hatshepsut was the longest reigning female pharaoh in Egypt, ruling for 20 years in the 15th
century B.C. She is considered one of Egypt s most successful pharaohs.
It is recorded that she was born sometime around 1508 B.C. Queen Hatshepsut ruled over Egypt for
more than 20 years. She was the only child born to the Egyptian king Thutmose I by his first wife
and queen, Ahmose, Hatshepsut was expected to be queen. After the death of her father at age 12,
Hatshepsut married her half brother Thutmose II, who has a different mother; a common practice
meant to ensure the purity of the royal bloodline. During the reign of Thutmose II, Hatshepsut
assumed the traditional role of queen and principal wife.
She served as queen alongside

Mean Variance Analysis
Harry W. Markowitz, the father of Modern Portfolio theory , developed the mean variance
analysis, which focuses on creating portfolios of assets that minimizes the variance of returns i.e.
risk, given a level of desired return, or maximizes the returns given a level of risk tolerance. This
theory aids the process of portfolio construction by providing a quantitative take on it. It integrates
the field of quantitative analysis with portfolio management. Mean varianceanalysis has found
wide applications both inside and outside financial economics. However it is based on certain
assumptions which do not hold good in practice. Hence there have been certain revisions to it, so
as to make it a more useful tool in portfolio management.

All securities can be divided into parcels of any size.
Let R be the expected return of the assets:
R = (R1, R2,.....Rn)T
Let V be the variance/covariance matrix. It is assumed to be positive definite. Пѓ ij = cov (Ri , Rj)
A portfolio X of asset weights is expressed as:
X = (x1, x2,..........xn)T.
[Note that HT denotes the transpose of a matrix H and xi denotes the weight on asset and ∑xi =
1, where i=1 to n]
The expected return of a portfolio is given by E[RX] = XT E[R], and the variance of the portfolio
by σX = XT VX. Thus, the mean return of the portfolio X satisfies: Mean = Rx= XT ¯R = ∑xi
ВЇRI, where i = 1 to n.
The variance Vx of portfolio return is given by: where Пѓi2 is the variance of return i , and Пѓij
measures the covariance between returns i and j . We denote the standard deviation of X by ПѓX.
Often, it is not possible to be short on assets. In that case, we need to add a constraint that all
portfolio weights shall be zero or above: xi ≥ 0.(Mz)
If we search for maximizing the expected return for a given variance, we have to solve the
following optimization problem:
As explained by Markowitz, the portfolio selection problem can be formulated as a quadratic
program. We can also search for minimizing the variance given a level of expected return. For a
portfolio containing n assets, the minimum variance portfolio is a solution of: Where E* is the
level of expected return.
Thus we get the efficient frontier as shown

In order to complete this assignment I decided to observe one of the students from the
elementary group. Her name is Diana. She is 21 years old. Her background is as follows: *
Diana s first language is Kazakh, but you can say that Russian is her first language as well, since
at home she uses the first one, and for education the second. She is fluent in both languages. *
Diana still has one more year of university to go, she studies history and plans to continue her

Learner s strengths and weaknesses.
The student s main strength is that she is not afraid of speaking and making mistakes. Being an
elementary level student, she makes regular mistakes corresponding both to the level and to being a
Russian language speaker (Learner English, Swan, M and Smith, M CUP).
Language
Firstly, Diana does not use the verb be in the sentences, where it is appropriate ( My specialty at
university history ).
Secondly, she attempts to use the past simple tense, but cannot form it properly ( I was study ).
Thirdly, Diana has problems with plurals, she forgets to use the s ending I was study in two school
and it was...
Fourthly, she struggles with some vocabulary, namely she does not make difference between the
verb live and the noun life ( ... we dicided who is who and what to do in live).
Skills
Diana tries to use new words immediately, but sometimes is unable to produce them correctly.
During the observed lessons she could not say couple of words correctly, namely, she pronounced
fear as /fju/, and lawyer as / lЙ’uvЙ™/.
She tends to use contraction wanna every time she says want, even when there is no to after it, e.g.
I wanna sister instead of saying I want a sister .
She confuses introductory words, for instance when she explained to me what she likes about
university better than about school, she used question word What about instead of simply About .
And the last, since none of her first languages

Supply and Demand and Price Essay
1.Name two types of market failure. Explain why each may cause market outcomes to be inefficient.
Market Power In some markets, a single buyer or seller may be able to control the market prices.
Market Power can cause inefficiency because it keeps the price and quantity away from the
equilibrium of supply and demand.
Externalities The impact of one person s actions on the well being of a bystander. Since buyers and
sellers do not consider these side effects when deciding how much to consume and produce, the
equilibrium in a market can be inefficient from the standpoint of society as a whole.

This is because people will continue demanding/buying the product. No matter how expensive
bread may become, people will still rely on it as a necessary staple of survival. On the other side of
the coin, when demand is more elastic, the deadweight loss will be greater since the demand
curve is flatter. The less people rely on a service/product the more likely they will be to forfeit its
usage.
4.What does the domestic price that prevails without international trade tell us about a nation s
comparative advantage?
The effects of free trade can be determined by comparing the domestic price without trade to the
world price. A low domestic price indicates that the country has a comparative advantage in
producing that good and that the country will become an exporter. A high domestic price indicates
that the world has a comparative advantage and that the country will become an importer. When a
country becomes an exporter, producers are better off than consumers. When a country becomes an
importer, consumers are stronger than producers. In both situations, the gains from the trade exceed
the losses.
5.What is the difference between the unilateral and multilateral approaches to achieving free trade?

Being An Intern At The Salvation Army Center Of Hope
Caring, understanding, reliable, and thoughtfulness are just a selection of adjectives which
describes the life of being a Social Worker. Throughout various interactions in life, we will meet
and encounter different aspects of unforgettable experiences. Being able to rationalize and work
through these experiences is a part of meeting our developmental growth. As a young adult,
seeking to obtain an MSW is both exciting and rewarding in my life. Being an intern at The
Salvation Army Center of Hope has given me the opportunity to see first hand how grateful and
thankful people are when their needs are met, which in return ignites my passion from within to
help those in need. Being willing and available to share and implement thoughts and suggestions
to others about unexpected life situations are a major part of being of social worker. For myself,
being available to offer solutions to people of all genders, backgrounds, religions and more
engenders a sense of purpose and accomplishment. My social workexperience thus far has taught
me how valuable communication is from both the person needing assistance and the individual
offering help. Generally speaking, most people prefer individuals that will listen to them attentively
as they share their thoughts. I have realized that during this process, both parties are given the
opportunity to intake the information, before releasing any suggestions. Communication is
essential, in order to properly identify and fix the problem.

How Does Barbara Ehrenreich Use Ethos In Nickel And Dimed
In the book, Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich leaves behind her lifestyle as a journalist for
one of a low wage worker. As we follow Ehrenreich on her journey, we are exposed to the
struggles the working poor have to face as Ehrenreich attempts to survive on a minimum wage pay.
In hopes of changing the way readers perceive its working poor, Ehrenreich uses rhetorical
strategies conveyed throughout the book, in particular, ethos, logos, and pathos.
Ehrenreich uses the rhetorical strategy, ethos, to effectively support her argument in her novel.

Analysis Of The Book Cordelia Achen
The Role of the Cone in Book One
Cordelia Achen As the title suggests, Apollonius Conics deals with the various conic sections,
shapes that arise when one cuts the cone in different ways. However, we leave the cone rather
quickly in our foray into the conic sections, exploring the parabola, hyperbola, circle, and ellipse as
they exist outside the cone and the various line relationships that comprise them. After we find
the diameter for these sections, the cone makes a sudden reappearance as we construct the conic
sections from given lines and angles. Why do we return to the cone? Why leave it in the first
place? What the cone gives in book one of Apollonius is the curved line for each of the shapes.
Its absence allows us to see more relationships between the conic sections, and its reappearance
demonstrates how much farther we have to go before truly understanding curvature. Each of the
conic sections are defined by curve, and this curve is given to them by the way they are cut
from the cone. The circle, for instance, found in any section cut parallel to the base, has a
completely regular curve and is bound wholly within the cone. Thus the line joins in on itself.
The parabola, however, which is found in any section parallel to one side of the axial triangle or
when the diameter meets the axial triangle before the vertex, has a less regular curve because it
follows a different part of the conic section. The parabola also never meets itself because it is not
bound by the

Child Labor Policy Essay
Introduction Since the beginning of time, child labor has been a very complex issue in the
United States. Child labor refers to work that impedes children s access to education and is
harmful to their physical, mental, moral, developmental, and social well being (Schmitz, Traver,
Larson, Pieris, 2004, p. 1). Exploitation from cruel to harmful is considered and reported as child
labor. A child is a person under eighteen years of age, according to the Rights of the Child
convention of 1989 (Schmitz et al., 2004). As the history of child labor evolved throughout the
years, policies and rules have been created to protect children from abuse. The manifestation varies

In order to meet labor shortage in 1619, American masters recruited poor British children to
work along with American children. The children were badly treated and well worn. By the time
young girls were eight years of age, they were employed to work in the textile factories as well as
cloth manufactures. Spinning schools were created for poor children to develop an education. By
the 1700 s, colonists believed that the labor that children were providing was good for them
(Greene, 1002). According to Greene (1992), the governor of New York stated, every home swarms
with children who are set to spin and card (p. 19). As technology advanced, many manufactures
became wealthy but the competition made others worry and tried to slow down the growth of other
manufactures. The divergence of the industrialization caused the American Revolution (Greene,
1992). Due to the lack of knowledge of what was going on in the rest of the world, American
accepted child labor. Although the children were treated a lot better compared to other countries,
and young girls were not out loading and dragging coal and working in mines. Child labor was
thought of as helping keep parents out of public charity, kept down production cost, and made the
nation competitive. Citizens of America also thought that children would benefit morally by giving
them temperament, dependability, and thrift. During this time, bible reading was extremely

Analysis Of Henry Louis Jr s The Trials Of Phillis Wheatley
Phillis Wheatley, once coined the mother of black literature, now, deemed an imitation is the
sole focus of Henry Louis Jr s, The Trials of Phillis Wheatley, in regards to the many perspectives
and intrepations pertaining to her poetic works. In closing of the novel, in which he evaluates the
various opinions offered, Gates suggests that readers should ...learn to read Wheatley anew,
unblinkered by the anxieties of her time and ours. That s the only way to let Phillis Wheatley take
the stand. The challenge isn t to read white or read black; it is to read (Gates 89). Such is the
stance he assumes and carries throughout his novel.
As his method of reading of reading suggests, Gates assumes an objective attitude when grasping

As does the former, Gate s quote, Jefferson reaches these conclusions, in some part, from his
reading of Phillis Wheatley s poetry. Yes, he conceded, she may very well have written these works,
but they are derivative imitative, devoid of that marriage of reasoning and transport that is, in his
view, the peculiar oestrum of the poet. By shifting the terms of authenticity from the very
possibility of her authorship to the quality of her authorship Jefferson indicated her for a failure of a
higher form of authenticity (Gates 49) demonstrates, Gates , blatant objectivity. There is something
underlying that is imperative to understanding just how impartial Gates is. Gates, himself is an
African American man, yet he offers evidence that is unpopular, contradicts his beliefs and may
well offend him, still, his opinions are (especially in his case) free of bias. This impartiality is
indicated by phrases such as, he conceded, Jefferson indicated, and, in his view. Authenticity, is an
important word as it is essential to Jefferson s argument, which would subsequently make Wheatley
s authorship creditable. Yet again, Gates objectivity is shown as he presents the argument, For
wheatley s critics, her sacrifices, nor courage, her humiliations, her trials would never be enough.
And so we have come full circle: the sort of racist suspicious and anxieties that attended Wheatley
s writing are now directed at forms of black expression that seem

The American Educational System and Its Slippery Slope Essay
There is one thing that is universally sought after in this world, regardless of race, ethnicity, age,
location, and upbringing. There is one thing that every single human being hungrily craves. There
is one thing that can make the potential difference between a life of abject poverty or comfortable
prosperity: knowledge. The human mind s thirst for knowledge can never be fully quenched, and it
is always left wanting more; although, this isn t necessarily a detrimental thing. Many different and
unique styles of educationhave emerged as an attempt to satisfy the universal desire of knowledge,
but it is often debated which style of education is the most effective. There is a very wide range of
teaching styles on the spectrum of education,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since both the United States and Japan have very contrasting styles of education, many different
outcomes arise from each of these styles. For instance, since the educational system of Japan is so
strict and structured, students are gradually chiseled into very responsible and disciplined
individuals who are very skilled when it comes to things such as standardized tests; however, much
is unseen about this transformational process to the American eye. In Kyoko Mori s essay School,
her firsthand experience of the Japanese educational system is shared. She states that You can
never question the authority of the teacher, whom you address simply as sensei, literally, one
whose life comes first ... The teacher is like the biblical God, whom you cannot name (Mori 136).
When authority cannot be questioned and is to be treated like God, how are students expected to
comprehend every detail taught by their instructor? If the students can t quite grasp an idea, how
are they supposed to completely master it without the aid of their so called godly instructors? The
Japanese answer to this solution is simple: Memorization and repeated practice (Mori 132). In
Japan, students are drilled into the ground by constant memorization and repeated practice, and
without the aid of their teachers, they have to claw their way up a mountain to acquire every single
answer.

History Of The Cromford Mills
While my time in Manchester was great, the constant days of factory smoke and the sound of
ships docking got too repetitive. I decided to go somewhere else, and that s when I heard about the
Cromford Mills. I heard about a man named Richard Arkwright that has invented something that
changed lots of lives. He invented what was is called a cottonspinning mill. This mill was
amazing. It had increased the amount of spun cotton by an overwhelming amount. But what
really caught my attention was that it did not need a skilled laborer, which fit me perfectly. In mid
1789, I worked my way to Cromford, England where I began my work at the Cromford Mills. I was
one of 800 workers who worked in the mills, and it was great. When I entered the mills for

Citizen Kane Analysis
Citizen Kane is a movie that can be rewritten and implemented into any film created today. In
many ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each
one of us who has ever wished for a blah blah life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah
to his political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kaneowes a great deal to
Orson Wellesbecause of the way he used music, shadows and lighting, and special effects, which
without a doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its
time because Orson Welles was the first to implement these techniques, which revolutionize cinema
forever.
It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many
reasons is because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope
of its subject (The Denny Life) to keep cost down. One of the methods that revolutionize
cinematography was the introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep
focus is the use of having everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time
contrary to having only the people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life).
Moreover, the deep focus technique requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition,
and type of camera lens to produce the desired effect. For example, Orson Welles use this technique
in several occasions

Tyres Case Study
All You Need To Know About Good SUV 4x4 Tyres
Are you in the market for new tyres? If you are wondering which road to take to the ultimate
SUV and 4x4 tyres we will break down the different types, styles, and sizes that you may want to
consider when shopping for your newest set of tyres. Remember, everyone s needs are different
and just because your friend found the perfect set of 4x4 tyres does not mean that they will meet
your needs.
There are three main types of 4x4 tyres and they are high performance, all terrain, and mud
terrain. Within each of these types you find a variety of different styles and sizes. This means that
even if the type is right for you you may come across styles and sizes that don t necessarily suit
your needs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mud Terrain
If you re looking for the right tyres for farm life or primarily off road use then mud terrain tyres
are probably the right choice for you. The typical split here is 20% on the road and 80% off
road. You will find that the tread patterns on mud terrain tyres have big gaps to improve traction
and grip for off road use. What that means for driving on the road, though, is that the
performance isn t great. This is particularly true in wet driving conditions as breaking distances
aren t easy to judge. So, if you spend a lot of time on the road then it s time to write off mud terrain
tyres as a viable option for your SUV or 4x4.
There are a few different types of mud terrain SUV tyres, so you can make your decision in line
with your needs.
The Right Size
Tyres come in all sizes, but the normal size for an SUV or 4x4 tyre is 255/65R16(109)H.
Now, if you have a look on the sidewall of your tyres you will find a size listed though every car
will have it on display in a slightly different spot. They often lead with an LT. That isn t part of the
size, it simply indicates that the vehicle is a light truck and this is indicative of a tyre that has been
designed and constructed for use by a vehicle that carries extra weight. The tyre can take it.
Another thing to consider in your decision making process is your driving style. Everyone has a
different driving style, so you may want to consider the performance based on

Peter Singer The True Cost Of Poverty
Peter Singer provides evidence which helps us analyze the effects of poverty that exist in the
fashion world. As exposed in the documentary The True Cost, the nature of free enterprise and
the new world of business in a globalized economy has created a sense of hopelessness for
millions of people. The cost of becoming an instrument of labor as visualized in the movie has
force us to reevaluate what is important to our own humanity? Our introspective thoughts infused
by a compelling oratory given by Shima Akhter one of forty million garment workers forces us to
ask ourselves what can we do alleviate povertyin the world? The Fast Fashionindustry has
generated trillions of dollars for those few individual at the top of big business while the common
garment workers are being destroyed by absolute poverty.
Singer, uses Robert McNamara who was once president of the World Bank to explain what
absolute poverty is. According to McNamara poverty at the absolute level is life at the very

The Struggle Between Gestational Surrogacy And Adoption
Surrogacy is a good alternative for couples struggling with infertility who wish to have a
biological child. Many couples struggle for years trying to have a child. This can be a very
emotional process to deal with especially when each person involved blames themselves for the
lack of conception. Some unconventional couples would not be able to have a child without
surrogacy. Surrogacy is also a good option for single people who want a child without a significant

There are many ways for infertile individuals to have a child. One option is adoption. Adoption
is very expensive, time consuming, and only available for certain people. Unconventional
couples, single people, and older people might have a tougher time passing the strict guidelines
for adoptive parents. It also may take many years to find a child to adopt, and if you do find one it

Web 2.0 has forever changed online communication and communication in general. Reddit has
opened up new ways to communicate and be a part of communities. These communities are now
so integral to our modern culture that they are used for more than just people discussing interests
online. Reddit has given has given content creators, business men, and politicians among others
to manage and monitor community activity. Filmmakers/television executives use these
communities to monitor the fan base of their respective media. They monitor these communities
to look at fan feedback, to see what fans like or dislike about the media they are associated with.
This is common in television shows as television executives need to know what fans are thinking
about the show overall or the season currently airing so they know what to improve on or what
the fans want. An example of this is a television executive for the television show Arrow . The
executive Marc Guggenheim has an active Tumblr and Reddit account and responds to

Pros And Cons Of Government Assistance In America
For a very long time there s been the debate over government assistance in america, admittedly
there are plenty of pros and cons on either side of the argument, in this case I believe that the
pros outweigh the cons. America should introduce a universal basic income as a replacement
for all other government assistance in an effort to reduce government bureaucracy, improve
standard of living, reduce the wealth gap, contribute to better working conditions and create
social capital. Providing a base income for all americans regardless of previous income would
greatly affect the standard of living in america. Replacing all other government benefits with ten
thousand dollars per year for all american citizens over the age of eighteen years old. Say a
person makes forty thousand dollars per year, they now have an extra ten thousand dollars to
add to that, enough to cover daycare or assist in daycare costs for a single parent, or to allow
someone who works three jobs to now be able to to work two instead. It s no secret that ten
thousand more dollars per year would be helpful to anyone, but for some it could be the difference
between living on the street or not. Yes, ten thousand dollars is most likely not enough for

A total of 128 people died and was the first crash to have more than 100 deaths. To better
understand what happened, it is helpful to look at how ATC had done things at the time. ATC had
only provided separation to aircrafts under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and not aircrafts under
Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Also the separation of aircraft was limited to controlled airspace.
(Lawrence, pg186) Although both planes took off with an IFR flight plan, when they leave the
controlled airspace they must not use the see and avoid technique which is still a common practice
today. Both aircrafts were in an area of clear weather with little build up and in uncontrolled

There still was the problem of the military and civilians using the airspace under different sets of

Social Adversity In Out Of This Furnace
Literature helps mirror some of the issues that individuals face in the society. Authors use fictional
or real situations, in some cases, to demonstrate the extent to which a community suffers from
various injustices, which undermine wholesome optimal function in different sectors. Historically,
the United States has had issues with social inclusivity following oppression of immigrants, limited
opportunities for minority groupings, racism, discrimination, among other things. In his novel, Out
of This Furnace, Thomas Bell echoes the experiences of the Kracha family, where he chronicles
the various life experiences from one generation to the next. Bell centers on the life of steel
workers and their experiences in America. Despite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One would actually be justified to assume that the steel mill company is representative of the unfair
treatment workers received from the various industries they worked for. In order to echo the
discrimination and oppression that immigrants experienced, Thomas H. Coode, in an essay, Many
Miles to the Middle Class: Reflections on Three Narratives of Life in Mine and Mill Towns states,
Mike s story, describes turn of the century steel mills as booming; but long and dangerous hours in
the mills deprive workers of family time, and poverty and meanness plague Slovak families whose
occupational ambitions compete with the ethnic prejudices of bosses and the corporations, (94). In
this statement, Coode makes it clear that corporations during that time were not sensitive to the
welfare of their workers, which only means that they were only focused on making profit. They
sacrificed good working conditions and sustainable salaries for huge returns to enrich themselves.
Such is a demonstration of marginalization and oppression of the poor. It is evident that Mary and
her family suffer social exclusion, which undermined their wellbeing. In the novel, Mike talks
reflecting the true nature of the society in which they lived. He says, But I m a Hunky and they don
t give good jobs to Hunkies, (Bell, 185). This particular statement demonstrates the limiting and
oppressive nature of the American society. Putting this into context, Nancy Hewitt, in her book, A

The Latino Culture
The Latino culture takes a more monistic approach to the mind body problem. This may affect
the ways in which depression is experienced and expressed. For example, studies have found that
Latinos are more likely to express psychological distress in somatic terms such as lack of energy,
sleep disturbances, and body aches (Martinez Tyson, Castaneda, Porter, Quiroz, Carrion, 2011).
Additionally, studies find that Latinos are more likely to take a holistic approach to healing as
evidenced by the principle of mente sana en cuerpo sano y alma sana (healthy mind in healthy body
and healthy soul) which communicates the strong connection between mind, body, and soul
(Comas Diaz, 2006). This suggests that a purely physical approach to therapy may not be well
received by the Latino client, and is supported by studies showing Latino patients feel apprehensive
towards being treated with anti depressants even when they have positive attitudes towards

What Is Yossarian s Point Of View In Catch 22
The novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is about a man named Yossarian who during the second half
of World War II, is stationed with his Air Force squadron on the island of Pianosa, near the Italian
coast in the Mediterranean Sea. Yossarian and his friends endure a nightmarish, absurd existence
defined by bureaucracy and violence: they are inhuman resources in the eyes of their blindly
ambitious superior officers. The squadron is thrown thoughtlessly into brutal combat situations and
bombing runs in which it is more important for the squadron members to capture good aerial
photographs of explosions than to destroy their targets. Their colonels continually raise the number
of missions that they are required to fly before being sent home, so that... Show more content on

First, Yossarian discovers that it is possible to be discharged from military service because of
insanity. Always looking for a way out, Yossarian claims that he is insane, only to find out that by
claiming that he is insane he has proved that he is obviously sane since any sane person would
claim that he or she is insane in order to avoid flying bombing missions. Elsewhere, Catch 22 is
defined as a law that is illegal to read. Ironically, the place where it is written that it is illegal is in
Catch 22 itself. It is yet again defined as the law that the enemy is allowed to do anything that one
can t keep him from doing. In short, then, Catch 22 is any paradoxical, circular reasoning that
catches its victim in its illogic and serves those who have made the law. Catch 22 can be found in
the novel not only where it is explicitly defined but also throughout the characters stories, which are
full of catches and instances of circular reasoning that trap unwitting bystanders in their snares for
instance, the ability of the powerful officer Milo Minderbinder to make great sums of money by
trading among the companies that he himself

Systems Analysis And Design Activities
Systems analysis
Daniel Hawkins
Enterprise Systems Analysis Design
Introduction The first section of the briefing addresses the systems analysis and design activities in
the organizational workplaces. The second part will explore the typical responsibilities and skill
sets of a successful system analyst in the workplace. Usually, a systems analyst refers to a system
designer in any organization. A systems analyst defines, develops, configures, and supports
computer applications to improve business efficiency as well as productivity.
Systems Analysis and Design Activities Systems projects that involve many departments will
require a committee rather than an individual to approve them. The first step requires a proposal
regarding the project. The plan entails the problem and its significance to the organization while
giving alternative solutions (Kendall, Kenneth, and Kendall, 2006). It also analyzes the possible
use of a computer to solve the problem while acknowledging the people interested in using the
system. When the right people approve the project, then it is developed. Systems development life
cycle (SDLC) involves the activities followed to generate new computer information systems. The
SDLC consists of various steps. The first step is the preliminary analysis, which explains the
problem and investigates it (McLeod, Raymond, and Sumner, 2006). The second step analysis the
requirements. It evaluates the properties of the current system and those of the

The Effects Of Nicotine Dependence On Adolescents
Hypothesis:
In the study it was hypothesized that as the nicotine dependence progresses it would lead to low
positivity in the mood, high negativity in the mood, and higher mood variability. The study also
observed whether nicotine dependence in a person changes after increasing the frequency of the
person smoking during the course of the study.
Methods:
a.Participants
In the study, the participants who were recruited were from the SECASP project. The study was a
longitudinal study based on examining the smoking behavior amidst 12,970 young adolescents,
studying in high school in ninth and tenth grade, recruited from 16 different Chicago high schools.
These young participants were examined based on their smoking behavior and the results were
used as part of the longitudinal study by associating it with 1,263 participants with variability in
smoking experiences. However, a part of the study s data was collected to observe the mood
behavior associated with smoking, but the result of the effects did not show any nicotine
dependence change. (Piasecki, Hedeker, Dierker, and Mermelstein, 2014)
On the other hand, the research study also had a sub study known as the EMA study in which out
of 461 young participants 329 data was analyzed reporting their smoking behavior past 30 days,
and completing their EMA recording and their Nicotine Dependence scale. Based on the criteria of
the study, 80% of the participants over a period of six months gave information regarding their

They’ve Got Your ’Bak.
CamelBak: They ve Got Your Bak.
In 1989, Michael Eidson probably never imagined that his homemade, do it yourself fix for
dehydration during long cycling races would evolve into the world s premier hydration device for
outdoor enthusiasts, soldiers, and law enforcement personnel. That is exactly what happened to the
CamelBak backpack, however.
The first version, which used medical tubing to flow water from an intravenous drip bag that
was insulated by a sock and strapped to the back of his shirt, was born as most inventions are out
of necessity. The special pack made it possible for Eidson to take in fluids while sitting upright
without having to sacrifice speed by reaching down for a water bottle during a race. The packs

do you think are most important for CamelBak to consider in their marketing strategy? Why? 4.
What type of business product is a Camelbak backpack?
In 1989, when Michael Eidson created the first camelbak to be able to keep hydrated while on
long hard bike rides. Without realizing it his simple invention cornered the market for self hydration
while on the go.
The Camelbak Company made several strategic partnerships with companies that would not only
help them with growing their product but also help them increase their customer base. A strategic
partnership is an agreement between businesses, these partnerships allow for strengthen operations
(Lamb, Hair Jr., amp; McDaniel, 2011). One of the most profitable partnerships that Camelbak
made was with DuPoint. DuPoint help in the development of the LIRR system (Low Infrared

Golden Era Of Consumption
1) What is the Golden Era of Consumption ?
The Golden Era of Consumption is a key aspect in the story of stuff. This era, began after World
War II and is highly protected and promoted by the government. The primary way individuals are
analyzed is based on how much each individual contributes to the golden era of consumption. This
era highlights the idea of consumption for each individual and began when the government wanted
to amp up the economy. Here, things began to be intentionally designed to have a short lifespan,
therefore increasing the rate of consumption.
Additionally, they started using things like advertisements to make people feel bad about what they
own in comparison to other individuals. This then makes them buy more items, ... Show more

Examples Of Atonement In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
In the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses the method of storytelling to
acknowledge and implement the reader into the situations that the Mariner faces. Coleridge does
this by implementing vivid imagery into his poem to create a tale that we the readers can easily
follow such as the tales we tell one another today to learn or understand different concepts in
modern day life.
The concept of sin and atonement are the allegories that we learn about in The Rime of the Ancient
Mariner; we learn that with sin comes the reprimand of a supernatural figure; however the prejudice
one faces helps lead to the forgiveness the Mariner learns to find within himself. The poem contains
riot only a mysterious or supernatural element, which

Capitalism Vs Capitalism
2.2 Capitalism is chaotic
Marx also criticizes capitalism because of its chaotic nature. In this regard, the author states that
capitalism only allows economies to thrive on crises that tend to stimulate them. As a result, Marx
argues that the reliance on this crises was an avenue for creating economic havoc in the long run
which is risky for the economy and the country as a whole. For that reason, Marx advocated for a
planned community which will be an essential replacement for such spontaneous, erratic and
freewheeling system (AllAboutWorldview.org, 2017). Even in periods when capitalist economies
seem to function relatively smoothly, without incidences such as recession or inflation, the Marxian
theory depicts capitalism as a destructive economic system (Wolff Resnick, 2012).
2.3 Capitalism breeds inequality
Karl Marx, a renowned philosopher and economist is against capitalism because he believed that
created conditions that promoted inequality (Alfarsi, 2016). Capitalism creates two classes of
people in society. In this regard, Marx states that capitalism results in a class of people known as
proletarians who are majorly composed of the working class as well as the bourgeois which
comprises of the capitalists who are the owners of the factors of production. As a result of the
competing interests, capitalism creates a struggle between these two classes of people hence the
reason as to why it is undesirable.

The History and Production of Yummy Jelly Beans Essay
Jelly Beans
Around the world small, sweet, sugar filled candies bring enjoyment to those who consume them.
What are these tiny, pleasure inducing sweets? The answer is jelly beans. Jelly beans are produced
in numerous varieties and flavors; therefore, their story is just as diverse and colorful as they are.
The History of Jelly Beans Initially, the first jelly bean was created in the early 1800s by an
unknown American candy maker. However, one can trace back the beginnings of their production
process to 17th century France. The French made Jordan Almonds, sugar glazed almonds, by a
process called panning, which is now used to make the hard sugar coating on jelly beans. Panning
is the rocking of a desired item in a container filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the trays are coated with a light layer of cornstarch, which is then left to dry overnight. The
next day, the cornstarch layer is removed, the middles are put through a moisture steam bath, and
are finally sprayed with sugar and left to sit for another twenty four to forty eight hours. Next, is
the panning process where the centers of the bean are set in a rotating drum, called an
engrossing pan. While the center is rotating, sugar is added gradually to build the hard outer
shell. During this time, colors and flavors are also added to get the unique look and taste of the
bean. Once finished, confectioner s glaze is added to give the beans a shiny, smooth, and silky
appearance. After the beans have been polished (a process that can take two to four days) they are
ready to be shipped to companies and stores. Overall, the whole process can take between seven to
twenty one days depending on the manufacturer. Consumers can find jelly beans in most candy
shops, mini marts, and grocery stores. If interested in specifically buying Jelly Belly brand,
consumers can go to the Jelly Belly website to make their specialized orders.
Flavors To begin with, there were only a few flavors of jelly beans; however, today there are many
brands all with their own unique renditions on numerous flavors. The Jelly Belly Company is
known for its wide and unusual range of flavors. Their most popular has changed throughout the
years, but Very Cherry

Bombing Hiroshima And Nagasaki Justified Essay
The US was justified to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki
During world war two, the Imperial Japanese army forced an estimated 200,000 women into sexual
slavery. This is just one of the many atrocities committed by Japan during world war two. Even
though many say that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were inhumane, the US was
completely justified because the future casualties were minimized and Japan and its allies
committed atrocious war crimes.
Body 1
The solution chosen resulted in the least possible allied casualties compared to the other solutions.
1. If the US chose not to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they would have chosen operation
downfall which was an invasion of Japan. This would have resulted in casualties estimated to be
in the millions for the US. 2. The other solutions were to demonstrate the power of the bomb by
dropping it on a remote island or waiting for the Soviets to declare war on Japan, but dropping
the bomb on a remote island would be a complete waste of money as atomic bombs weren t cheap
and waiting for the Soviets could still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1. The bombings killed 129,000 246,000 people in total over two to four months. The Japanese
army managed to kill over 300,000 people in a single city over a span of just over a month.
People really shouldn t be calling the bombings truculent when Japan s allies, the nazis, started the
Holocaust and committed genocide .2. The US even gave Japan a chance to surrender before the
bombs were dropped by issuing the Potsdam declaration which stated that if they didn t surrender,
Japan would face prompt and utter destruction . Japan did not surrender so they had to face the
consequence. The US could have just dropped the bombs without any warning, but they decided to
give Japan a chance to surrender first. This shows that the US were not inhumane in the bombings
of Hiroshima and

It provides the readers a deeper understanding of the lives of Jews and Germans in Germany during the brutal Nazi regime and how they manage to survive. This includes not only the physical survival of the fittest, but also the survival of their moral beliefs. In addition to the author s theme of inhumanity and humanity of man, he provides a background story for the characters in the book and how they are similar and different by their moral beliefs, their goals, their guilt, and their relationship with words. Two of the characters that are mentioned throughout the book to remind the readers of their struggles to survive in the Third Reich are Liesel and Max. Liesel is the foster daughter of Hans and Rosa Hubermann and the book thief who realizes the power of words in the Nazi community while Max is a fist fighter and German Jew who hides in Hans s basement to escape from Nazi incarceration and eventually survives the concentration camp after he is arrested on his way to Stuttgart by the Nazis. • 5. The Importance Of Religion In Public Education Religion has always been a major societal force. Though it helped define, shape, and lead cultures as a prominent component of a well rounded education in the past, in the modern day, we have discarded religious teaching in public education in favor of progressive, accurate, practical, and provable knowledge. Most people, including educators, students, and the parental figures of students, agree that the best way to educate students is in such a manner. The issue, however surprising, still stands, and is the source of big political discourse throughout the country. Some states, and some of the political figures that drive the educational system, are in favor of continuing the in depth studies of religionin the classroom. The people in this group vary, some prefer sticking to one religion to teach as compared to many. The Knightly Herald s Olivia Godfrey presents this controversial topic in her article, titled, Why Religion Should Not Be Taught in Public Schools. In the article, Godfrey defends the idea that religion should be kept out of a public education, and that rather, religion should be left entirely in the hands of a student s life at home. Government, be it state or federal, has no place in having a say of what kind of religious education a student receives. It is a personal and familial matter that differs from person to person, culture to culture. Godfrey unpacks and addresses, with the help of appeals to common sense, and familiarity, the various perspectives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. My Love Of Dance It seems like from the moment I could walk, I have had a love for dancing. When I was little, every chance I got, I would perform in front of my family. Whether I was singing, dancing, dressing up, or pretending to be a model on the runway, I wanted all the attention on me. When my mom put me into dance classes, I instantly fell in love with it, because the whole time, I got to do what I loved the most: perform. As the years went on, dancebecame something I was truly passionate about, and the lessons I learned from it began to change me. Those lessons and the ones I am still learning from dance have had a huge impact on me, making me into the person I am today. When I was little dance was a way to have fun and be a star, and I could show the big outgoing personality I had, but I became more reserved and shy as I grew up. Throughout intermediate school and junior high, I remained someone who was an introvert and strayed away from most social encounters. During this time, dance was something that allowed me to express what I was feeling, but without words. The few friends I had at the time had been in my life since kindergarten. Life was very comfortable and easy for me since I had lived in the same place forever. I didn t want anything to change, and the idea of anything changing scared me. What I didn t know was that a change would be exactly what I needed. At the start of high school, my family moved to a new town. This meant making a whole new group of friends. But how? ... How would the world be a better place if everyone lived up to the value presented? This world today in my opinion could use some manners. Being polite is simply the act of showing good manners to someone, it s really not that hard to use your please and thank you, or to even just give a nice little comment to someone. Another right thing to do is to be kind; holding the door, help someone carries stuff if his or her hands are full, complementing on some one. • 11. Mean Variance Analysis Harry W. Markowitz, the father of Modern Portfolio theory , developed the mean variance analysis, which focuses on creating portfolios of assets that minimizes the variance of returns i.e. risk, given a level of desired return, or maximizes the returns given a level of risk tolerance. This theory aids the process of portfolio construction by providing a quantitative take on it. It integrates the field of quantitative analysis with portfolio management. Mean varianceanalysis has found wide applications both inside and outside financial economics. However it is based on certain assumptions which do not hold good in practice. Hence there have been certain revisions to it, so as to make it a more useful tool in portfolio management. Mean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All securities can be divided into parcels of any size. Let R be the expected return of the assets: R = (R1, R2,.....Rn)T Let V be the variance/covariance matrix. It is assumed to be positive definite. Пѓ ij = cov (Ri , Rj) A portfolio X of asset weights is expressed as: X = (x1, x2,..........xn)T. [Note that HT denotes the transpose of a matrix H and xi denotes the weight on asset and ∑xi = 1, where i=1 to n] The expected return of a portfolio is given by E[RX] = XT E[R], and the variance of the portfolio by ПѓX = XT VX. Thus, the mean return of the portfolio X satisfies: Mean = Rx= XT ВЇR = ∑xi ВЇRI, where i = 1 to n. The variance Vx of portfolio return is given by: where Пѓi2 is the variance of return i , and Пѓij measures the covariance between returns i and j . We denote the standard deviation of X by ПѓX. Often, it is not possible to be short on assets. In that case, we need to add a constraint that all portfolio weights shall be zero or above: xi ≥ 0.(Mz) If we search for maximizing the expected return for a given variance, we have to solve the following optimization problem: As explained by Markowitz, the portfolio selection problem can be formulated as a quadratic program. We can also search for minimizing the variance given a level of expected return. For a portfolio containing n assets, the minimum variance portfolio is a solution of: Where E* is the level of expected return. Thus we get the efficient frontier as shown ... The less people rely on a service/product the more likely they will be to forfeit its usage. 4.What does the domestic price that prevails without international trade tell us about a nation s comparative advantage? The effects of free trade can be determined by comparing the domestic price without trade to the world price. A low domestic price indicates that the country has a comparative advantage in producing that good and that the country will become an exporter. A high domestic price indicates that the world has a comparative advantage and that the country will become an importer. When a country becomes an exporter, producers are better off than consumers. In Ehrenreich s evaluation at the end of the book, she reflects on how she did as a low wage worker and points out the problems with being one. She uses her experiences to support her argument, for instance, Why isn t this resistance met by more effective counterpressure from the workers themselves? In evading and warding off wage increases, employers are of course behaving in an economically rational fashion; their business isn t to make their employees more comfortable and secure but to maximize the bottom line. (page 204) Ehrenreich s use of logos gives the reader reason to follow along with her claims since she has provided the research and proof needed to back up her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Analysis Of The Book Cordelia Achen The Role of the Cone in Book One Cordelia Achen As the title suggests, Apollonius Conics deals with the various conic sections, shapes that arise when one cuts the cone in different ways. However, we leave the cone rather quickly in our foray into the conic sections, exploring the parabola, hyperbola, circle, and ellipse as they exist outside the cone and the various line relationships that comprise them. After we find the diameter for these sections, the cone makes a sudden reappearance as we construct the conic sections from given lines and angles. Why do we return to the cone? Why leave it in the first place? What the cone gives in book one of Apollonius is the curved line for each of the shapes. Its absence allows us to see more relationships between the conic sections, and its reappearance demonstrates how much farther we have to go before truly understanding curvature. Each of the conic sections are defined by curve, and this curve is given to them by the way they are cut from the cone. The circle, for instance, found in any section cut parallel to the base, has a completely regular curve and is bound wholly within the cone. Thus the line joins in on itself. The parabola, however, which is found in any section parallel to one side of the axial triangle or when the diameter meets the axial triangle before the vertex, has a less regular curve because it follows a different part of the conic section. The parabola also never meets itself because it is not bound by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Child Labor Policy Essay Introduction Since the beginning of time, child labor has been a very complex issue in the United States. Child labor refers to work that impedes children s access to education and is harmful to their physical, mental, moral, developmental, and social well being (Schmitz, Traver, Larson, Pieris, 2004, p. 1). Exploitation from cruel to harmful is considered and reported as child labor. A child is a person under eighteen years of age, according to the Rights of the Child convention of 1989 (Schmitz et al., 2004). As the history of child labor evolved throughout the years, policies and rules have been created to protect children from abuse. The manifestation varies widely in impact depending on the conditions of history, social,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to meet labor shortage in 1619, American masters recruited poor British children to work along with American children. The children were badly treated and well worn. By the time young girls were eight years of age, they were employed to work in the textile factories as well as cloth manufactures. Spinning schools were created for poor children to develop an education. By the 1700 s, colonists believed that the labor that children were providing was good for them (Greene, 1002). According to Greene (1992), the governor of New York stated, every home swarms with children who are set to spin and card (p. 19). As technology advanced, many manufactures became wealthy but the competition made others worry and tried to slow down the growth of other manufactures. The divergence of the industrialization caused the American Revolution (Greene, 1992). Due to the lack of knowledge of what was going on in the rest of the world, American accepted child labor. Although the children were treated a lot better compared to other countries, and young girls were not out loading and dragging coal and working in mines. Child labor was thought of as helping keep parents out of public charity, kept down production cost, and made the nation competitive. Citizens of America also thought that children would benefit morally by giving them temperament, dependability, and thrift. During this time, bible reading was extremely ... Analysis Of Henry Louis Jr s The Trials Of Phillis Wheatley Phillis Wheatley, once coined the mother of black literature, now, deemed an imitation is the sole focus of Henry Louis Jr s, The Trials of Phillis Wheatley, in regards to the many perspectives and intrepations pertaining to her poetic works. In closing of the novel, in which he evaluates the various opinions offered, Gates suggests that readers should ...learn to read Wheatley anew, unblinkered by the anxieties of her time and ours. That s the only way to let Phillis Wheatley take the stand. The challenge isn t to read white or read black; it is to read (Gates 89). Such is the stance he assumes and carries throughout his novel. As does the former, Gate s quote, Jefferson reaches these conclusions, in some part, from his reading of Phillis Wheatley s poetry. Yes, he conceded, she may very well have written these works, but they are derivative imitative, devoid of that marriage of reasoning and transport that is, in his view, the peculiar oestrum of the poet. By shifting the terms of authenticity from the very possibility of her authorship to the quality of her authorship Jefferson indicated her for a failure of a higher form of authenticity (Gates 49) demonstrates, Gates , blatant objectivity. There is something underlying that is imperative to understanding just how impartial Gates is. Gates, himself is an African American man, yet he offers evidence that is unpopular, contradicts his beliefs and may well offend him, still, his opinions are (especially in his case) free of bias. This impartiality is indicated by phrases such as, he conceded, Jefferson indicated, and, in his view. Authenticity, is an important word as it is essential to Jefferson s argument, which would subsequently make Wheatley s authorship creditable. Yet again, Gates objectivity is shown as he presents the argument, For wheatley s critics, her sacrifices, nor courage, her humiliations, her trials would never be enough. And so we have come full circle: the sort of racist suspicious and anxieties that attended Wheatley s writing are now directed at forms of black expression that seem ... There is one thing that every single human being hungrily craves. There is one thing that can make the potential difference between a life of abject poverty or comfortable prosperity: knowledge. The human mind s thirst for knowledge can never be fully quenched, and it is always left wanting more; although, this isn t necessarily a detrimental thing. In Kyoko Mori s essay School, her firsthand experience of the Japanese educational system is shared. If the students can t quite grasp an idea, how are they supposed to completely master it without the aid of their so called godly instructors? The Japanese answer to this solution is simple: Memorization and repeated practice (Mori 132). In many ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each one of us who has ever wished for a blah blah life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah to his political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kaneowes a great deal to Orson Wellesbecause of the way he used music, shadows and lighting, and special effects, which without a doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its time because Orson Welles was the first to implement these techniques, which revolutionize cinema forever. It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many reasons is because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope of its subject (The Denny Life) to keep cost down. One of the methods that revolutionize cinematography was the introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep focus is the use of having everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time contrary to having only the people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life). Moreover, the deep focus technique requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition, and type of camera lens to produce the desired effect. In 1957, a DC 7 with a crew of four and no passengers had a mid air collision with an Air Force F 89 with a crew of two. Both airplanes were on test flights. • 40. Social Adversity In Out Of This Furnace Literature helps mirror some of the issues that individuals face in the society. Authors use fictional or real situations, in some cases, to demonstrate the extent to which a community suffers from various injustices, which undermine wholesome optimal function in different sectors. Historically, the United States has had issues with social inclusivity following oppression of immigrants, limited opportunities for minority groupings, racism, discrimination, among other things. In his novel, Out of This Furnace, Thomas Bell echoes the experiences of the Kracha family, where he chronicles the various life experiences from one generation to the next. Bell centers on the life of steel workers and their experiences in America. Despite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One would actually be justified to assume that the steel mill company is representative of the unfair treatment workers received from the various industries they worked for. In order to echo the discrimination and oppression that immigrants experienced, Thomas H. Coode, in an essay, Many Miles to the Middle Class: Reflections on Three Narratives of Life in Mine and Mill Towns states, Mike s story, describes turn of the century steel mills as booming; but long and dangerous hours in the mills deprive workers of family time, and poverty and meanness plague Slovak families whose occupational ambitions compete with the ethnic prejudices of bosses and the corporations, (94). In this statement, Coode makes it clear that corporations during that time were not sensitive to the welfare of their workers, which only means that they were only focused on making profit. They sacrificed good working conditions and sustainable salaries for huge returns to enrich themselves. Such is a demonstration of marginalization and oppression of the poor. It is evident that Mary and her family suffer social exclusion, which undermined their wellbeing. In the novel, Mike talks reflecting the true nature of the society in which they lived. He says, But I m a Hunky and they don t give good jobs to Hunkies, (Bell, 185). This particular statement demonstrates the limiting and oppressive nature of the American society. Putting this into context, Nancy Hewitt, in her book, A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Latino Culture The Latino culture takes a more monistic approach to the mind body problem. This may affect the ways in which depression is experienced and expressed. For example, studies have found that Latinos are more likely to express psychological distress in somatic terms such as lack of energy, sleep disturbances, and body aches (Martinez Tyson, Castaneda, Porter, Quiroz, Carrion, 2011). Additionally, studies find that Latinos are more likely to take a holistic approach to healing as evidenced by the principle of mente sana en cuerpo sano y alma sana (healthy mind in healthy body and healthy soul) which communicates the strong connection between mind, body, and soul (Comas Diaz, 2006). This suggests that a purely physical approach to therapy may not be well received by the Latino client, and is supported by studies showing Latino patients feel apprehensive towards being treated with anti depressants even when they have positive attitudes towards receiving treatment for depression(Cabassa, Lester, Zayas, 2007). Understanding the client s perception of the self is important in diagnosing and treating depression. Therefore, an effective therapist must be able to understand and incorporate the client s worldview throughout the therapeutic process. What Is Yossarian s Point Of View In Catch 22 The novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is about a man named Yossarian who during the second half of World War II, is stationed with his Air Force squadron on the island of Pianosa, near the Italian coast in the Mediterranean Sea. Yossarian and his friends endure a nightmarish, absurd existence defined by bureaucracy and violence: they are inhuman resources in the eyes of their blindly ambitious superior officers. The squadron is thrown thoughtlessly into brutal combat situations and bombing runs in which it is more important for the squadron members to capture good aerial photographs of explosions than to destroy their targets. Their colonels continually raise the number of missions that they are required to fly before being sent home, so that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, Yossarian discovers that it is possible to be discharged from military service because of insanity. Always looking for a way out, Yossarian claims that he is insane, only to find out that by claiming that he is insane he has proved that he is obviously sane since any sane person would claim that he or she is insane in order to avoid flying bombing missions. Elsewhere, Catch 22 is defined as a law that is illegal to read. Ironically, the place where it is written that it is illegal is in Catch 22 itself. It is yet again defined as the law that the enemy is allowed to do anything that one can t keep him from doing. In short, then, Catch 22 is any paradoxical, circular reasoning that catches its victim in its illogic and serves those who have made the law. Catch 22 can be found in the novel not only where it is explicitly defined but also throughout the characters stories, which are full of catches and instances of circular reasoning that trap unwitting bystanders in their snares for instance, the ability of the powerful officer Milo Minderbinder to make great sums of money by trading among the companies that he himself ... • 43. Systems Analysis And Design Activities Systems analysis Daniel Hawkins Enterprise Systems Analysis Design Introduction The first section of the briefing addresses the systems analysis and design activities in the organizational workplaces. The second part will explore the typical responsibilities and skill sets of a successful system analyst in the workplace. Usually, a systems analyst refers to a system designer in any organization. A systems analyst defines, develops, configures, and supports computer applications to improve business efficiency as well as productivity. Systems Analysis and Design Activities Systems projects that involve many departments will require a committee rather than an individual to approve them. The first step requires a proposal regarding the project. The plan entails the problem and its significance to the organization while giving alternative solutions (Kendall, Kenneth, and Kendall, 2006). It also analyzes the possible use of a computer to solve the problem while acknowledging the people interested in using the system. When the right people approve the project, then it is developed. Systems development life cycle (SDLC) involves the activities followed to generate new computer information systems. The SDLC consists of various steps. The first step is the preliminary analysis, which explains the problem and investigates it (McLeod, Raymond, and Sumner, 2006). The second step analysis the requirements. It evaluates the properties of the current system and those of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects Of Nicotine Dependence On Adolescents Hypothesis: In the study it was hypothesized that as the nicotine dependence progresses it would lead to low positivity in the mood, high negativity in the mood, and higher mood variability. The study also observed whether nicotine dependence in a person changes after increasing the frequency of the person smoking during the course of the study. Methods: a.Participants In the study, the participants who were recruited were from the SECASP project. The study was a longitudinal study based on examining the smoking behavior amidst 12,970 young adolescents, studying in high school in ninth and tenth grade, recruited from 16 different Chicago high schools. These young participants were examined based on their smoking behavior and the results were used as part of the longitudinal study by associating it with 1,263 participants with variability in smoking experiences. However, a part of the study s data was collected to observe the mood behavior associated with smoking, but the result of the effects did not show any nicotine dependence change. (Piasecki, Hedeker, Dierker, and Mermelstein, 2014) On the other hand, the research study also had a sub study known as the EMA study in which out of 461 young participants 329 data was analyzed reporting their smoking behavior past 30 days, and completing their EMA recording and their Nicotine Dependence scale. Based on the criteria of the study, 80% of the participants over a period of six months gave information regarding their within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Atonement In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner In the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses the method of storytelling to acknowledge and implement the reader into the situations that the Mariner faces. Coleridge does this by implementing vivid imagery into his poem to create a tale that we the readers can easily follow such as the tales we tell one another today to learn or understand different concepts in modern day life. The concept of sin and atonement are the allegories that we learn about in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner; we learn that with sin comes the reprimand of a supernatural figure; however the prejudice one faces helps lead to the forgiveness the Mariner learns to find within himself. • 48. Capitalism Vs Capitalism 2.2 Capitalism is chaotic Marx also criticizes capitalism because of its chaotic nature. In this regard, the author states that capitalism only allows economies to thrive on crises that tend to stimulate them. As a result, Marx argues that the reliance on this crises was an avenue for creating economic havoc in the long run which is risky for the economy and the country as a whole. For that reason, Marx advocated for a planned community which will be an essential replacement for such spontaneous, erratic and freewheeling system (AllAboutWorldview.org, 2017). Even in periods when capitalist economies seem to function relatively smoothly, without incidences such as recession or inflation, the Marxian theory depicts capitalism as a destructive economic system (Wolff Resnick, 2012). 2.3 Capitalism breeds inequality Karl Marx, a renowned philosopher and economist is against capitalism because he believed that created conditions that promoted inequality (Alfarsi, 2016). Capitalism creates two classes of people in society. In this regard, Marx states that capitalism results in a class of people known as proletarians who are majorly composed of the working class as well as the bourgeois which comprises of the capitalists who are the owners of the factors of production. As a result of the competing interests, capitalism creates a struggle between these two classes of people hence the reason as to why it is undesirable. 3.0 Neoclassical Officially coined in 1900, the neoclassical ... Bombing Hiroshima And Nagasaki Justified Essay The US was justified to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki During world war two, the Imperial Japanese army forced an estimated 200,000 women into sexual slavery. This is just one of the many atrocities committed by Japan during world war two. Even though many say that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were inhumane, the US was completely justified because the future casualties were minimized and Japan and its allies committed atrocious war crimes. Body 1 The solution chosen resulted in the least possible allied casualties compared to the other solutions. 1. If the US chose not to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they would have chosen operation downfall which was an invasion of Japan. This would have resulted in casualties estimated to be in the millions for the US. 2.
