The Decline of the West
The Decline of the West
In todays world we are getting more and more materialized. When being a kid in school it is all
about getting the newest phone, wearing the most expensive clothing and every other materialized
thing, to show off how much money we have. We measure our happiness in things, clothes, cars
and so on. The greed of getting more and new things is decreasing. Before the financial crises in
2008 every family lent money to buy new things all the time. No worries were to be shown in any
family, until the crack happened. Nowadays the crisis has slowly turned around again and in school
it s still about collecting the newest items. In the short story from 2010 by Hanif Kureishi, the
problem of greed and a materialized world is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this view the kids seems rather ungrateful and rude to their father and we don t see their
side of the story. It seems like everyone is against Mike and that no one is happy about Mike
working hard to delight his family. On the contrary it would look rather different if it had been
from the wife or kids point of view.
The title The Decline of the West can be a directly reference to the western worlds economic
problems. This theme is clear throughout the short story, where especially Mike thinks about his
choice of lifestyle that he and many others have had through many years. He considers whether the
financial crises can be the punishment for this: Like many people, Mike had also worried whether
the present catastrophe was punishment for years of extravagance and self indulgence. (p. 4, l. 86
87) Another thing to notice about the short story is how values like love, closeness and
indulgence is nowhere to be found. And the title can therefore be related to moral degeneration,
which Mike s family is an example of. The title can be a critical comment on the western worlds
excessive focus on money at the expense of more important thing like family and Mike is actually
thinking about the Marxism prediction, which affects him personally: Since capitalism was
cracking under the weight of its contradictions as the Marxists has predicted ... they would have to

Fashion In The 1920 s
Fashion. It can be interpreted in many different ways; fashion is a form of art, self expression,
and a way of defining someone. For many years, fashion has developed and changed drastically
to appeal to flocking consumers. Who knew that the clothing one wore could have so much
value? In many cases, women played a big role, from time periods before the 1800 s till now.
Previously, women had been considered only housewives, catering to needs of their children,
cleaning, and the overall maintenance of their homes. They were not able to pursue jobs outside
their homes as this was unacceptable in society. However, there is a perpetual pattern of the change
in fashionas women gain more rights and step out of their boundaries. In a sense, women became
bold and fearless. The 1920 s along with the 1960 s are also periods that emphasize the changes in
fashion due to major societal changes. One will begin to notice monumental movements that form
due to injustice of women s rights; the rights to vote... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hippie movement later in the decade also exerted a strong influence on ladies clothing styles,
including bell bottom jeans, tie dye, and batik fabrics, as well as paisley prints. Hippies were
spontaneous, passionate and rebellious. Instead of conforming to the normal standards of living,
hippies dressed in bright colors, did drugs, and promoted freedom. They explored drugs such as
marijuana and LSD to find different forms of consciousness. Their vocal opposition to the United
States involvement in the Vietnam War (1955 1975) and the increasingly rocky road to shared
civil rights among all Americans led to this new, alternative form of activism. (Brief History of
Hippie culture). They felt like they needed to express themselves in a way so people knew their
opinions on the United States involvement in the Vietnam War. Again, there was emphasis on floral
prints and bring colors to promote peace and happiness. It was unisex dressing, first to be

Machiavelli s The Prince And Leviathan
Although misunderstood when introduced to society during their time, Niccolo Machiavelli s
The Prince and Thomas Hobbes Leviathan have been two of the most influential political works
in history. The Prince and Leviathan, although seen as immoral and almost wicked works of
their time, have guided many political thinkers, even America s own Thomas Jefferson, on the
subject of governance and power. This paper will compare the similarities and differences
between both works in terms of the historical settings in which they were written as well as
between the two distinct political philosophies presented by each man. More specifically, this
paper will differentiate the purpose of power between Machiavelli s theory of an absolute ruler
separated from morals and ethics compared to Hobbes reasoning for a necessary and absolute ruler
to put an end to the chaotic state of nature he presents.
Identification of Documents
The Prince, written by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1513 in his native Italian language, was a book
dedicated to Florence s then leader Lorenzo de Medici in an effort for Machiavelli to gain a
position in Florence s new government. The book was intended to help guide Lorenzo and other
present and future leaders in gaining and maintaining power, more specifically to aid Lorenzo in
unifying Italy under one ruler. Machiavelli lived during a time of great political strife in Italy as
the small city states of Italy, the Papal States, and the powerful states of Spain and

The Importance Of Educational Psychology
Educational Psychology fosters an understanding for student development and helps teachers be
effective, design lessons and make a difference for their students. First we must define what
education psychology is, and how it applies student development and to the education community.
The textbook, Educational Psychologywritten by Anita Woolfolk, (2012), defines educational
psychologyas, A distinct discipline with its own theories, research methods, problems, and
techniques. Educational psychologists do research on learning and teaching and, at the same time,
work to improve educational practice. (p. 12). Essentially, educational psychology is the study and
research behind creative and effective learning strategies and the principles for development and
learning. It enables teachers to reach and engage their students at the highest level of learning with
effective learning strategies. Learning educational psychology through the study of cognitive
development and the influences on children and adolescents as they grow, the implication of moral
and identity development, as well as obligations teachers have professionally to create safe learning
environments that promote high expectations and inclusion of all learners, helps teachers to nurture
and understand their students. For example, learning about student diversity and culture,
characteristics, learning levels, how to design and present content, enhance classroom management
creating a safe effective learning

Research Paper On Health Insurance
Can everyone in the United States have a Health insurance? That is the big question. As we
know it s impossible to get treated in the hospital without health insurance because it s very
expensive. Let me talk about my story, when I have arrived to the United States at Arizona,
Tempe specifically, I got very ill because I have Asthma so I couldn t breath properly, so my
friend took me to St Luke Hospital in Tempe, the doctor gave me Oxygen mask only nothing
more. Then when I got better it s time to checkout so they gave me the bill and it was 2500 $, I
was choked with the price but I have realized that my insurance company will take care of it.
In fact, nearly 40 million Americans does not have health insurance, most of them can t afford the
price of the health insurance. This issue is leading to many deaths in the United States due to not
having a health care. So the question is, why poor people can not afford a health insurance? or
in other way, why it s very expensive to have a health insurance? The answer for the first
question is very simple, some people were born poor and they do not have jobs, and if some of
them have jobs they don t offer them a health insurance and their income is very low so they can t
buy their own health care. The answer for the second question is kind of complicated. Health
insurances are expensive because the government does not have censorship ... Show more content

The Catcher Of The Rye, By F. D. Salinger
During the 1950 s, literature underwent a tremendous change in structure as well as philosophy.
J. D. Salinger s book The Catcher in the Rye helped contribute to this revolution by highlighting
new philosophies in literature. This is evident in pre 1950 writing as well as the changes that
persisted through the remaining part of the decade, especially in the writing style popularized
during the Great Depression. The Catcher in the Rye also contributed to a change in conflict.
This conflict started as an external object to overcome, but after the release of this book and
other, the conflict changed from external to internal and became a moral or philosophical
struggle to be thought about rather than something to overcome. Jerome David Salinger began
his life on January 1, 1919 in New York, New York. Salinger was born to Sol and Miriam
Salinger, and he was the younger of two children. Salinger s father was a rabbi who ran a
successful ham and cheese import business. Salinger mother was Scottish born and non Jewish,
but mixed marriages were looked at crudely. So Miriam decided to hide her heritage from almost
everyone and it was only after Salinger s bar mitzvah that he found out about his mother s
heritage. Salinger was shipped to Valley Forge Military Academy after flunking out of McBurney
School, even though he is intelligent. Valley Forge Academy was also some of the first exhibition

Homeless End Of The Day Analysis
I would consider my self to be some where in between a liberal and a conservative in this issue of
the homeless. I think that although some of the homeless decisions contribute to the reasons of
why they are homeless, they deserve the help and support. No one is perfect, and I think these
people should not be judged by mistakes they made or by their living situation. The homeless at
the end of the day are also human beings that should be treated equally as others. The article is
very sad to read since it is the reality of what some people actually go through and are still going
through at the moment. Its also amusing how they were all willing to open up to complete
strangers about their personal lives. Like what drove these homeless people

Pre Workout Supplements
If you re looking for something to take your workout to the next level, you should consider taking
a preworkout supplement. They offer many different benefits related to muscle growth, endurance,
and focus during your workout. They also provide significant energy. Typically, pre workouts are
recommended 15 30 minutes before your workout with 8oz of water. In my experience, I have
found them to be more effective for me when taken about 10 minutes before my workout. The
amount of water I use depends a lot on the type of pre workout it is. Some supplements mix better
than others.
So What Does A Pre Workout Supplement Do?
Basically, they are designed to give your body the stimulus it needs to push itself to the max. It

Some contain caffeine content equal to 3 cups of coffee in one serving. Caffeine is an excellent
stimulant that can help you focus and workout harder and longer than otherwise possible, however,
due to the high caffeine content contained in many preworkouts, you should consult your doctor
before taking one.
Creatine Creatine is naturally produced in the body. Creatine improves the body s ability to
produce energy, which leads to more reps and heavier weight. Creatine helps you push harder and
heavier which will aid in muscle growth.
Should You Take a Pre Workout?
Preworkout supplements should only be considered by serious exercisers. They should not be
taken simply as an energy supplement to get through the day. If you choose to take one, it is very
important that you workout afterwards. To get the most out of your preworkout, you need to do
high intensity exercise like weight lifting or High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Always
consult your doctor before taking any new supplement. Preworkouts are an AWESOME tool to
take your workout to a new level and see results like never before.

Quality Indicators Essay
Quality indicators(QI)are created by the AHRQ(Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality),
Quality indicators are standardized, evidence based measures of health care quality that can be used
with readily available hospital inpatient or outpatient administrative data to measure and track
quality of care. QI culture is dedicated to clinical studies, setting goals, measurement of
performance, identify the indicators, implementation and making an organized transition. However,
these qualityindicators are mostly driven by measurement of performance, with the aim to enhance
healthcare. These quality indicators are constructed into four standardized parts.
1.Pediatric Quality Indictors(PQI), pediatric indicators are a group of measures that focus on the
quality of care for the pediatric population/patients and preventable hospital admissions. PQI review
issues or problems with children , that may have occurred as a result of being in the healthcare
setting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prevention Quality Indicators(PQI), POI represent hospital admission rates for common
ambulatory care sensitive conditions . This indicator is driven by early detection and limitation of
severe disease. And these indicators can be used to recognize potential issues and focuses on
preventive healthcare/services. For example, A patient was admitted to the hospital due to
complications related to warfarin toxicity elevated INR of 6.45. This indicator would suggest that
if adequate teaching was provided, hospitalization may have been avoided if their PT/INR was
monitored regularly as an outpatient. As PQI strongly supports community clinic/primary care
physician support. 3. Inpatient Quality Indicators(IQI), IQI are hospital and area level indicators
relating to utilization . These indicators review or measure the level of quality medical care (poorly
delivered care or inefficient care) in the hospital setting and death rates. Also, IQI examine various
inpatient procedures and patient

History of the Newspaper
History of the Newspaper
The first acknowledged newspaper came into existence in 1665 and was called the Oxford
Gazette . During the development stages, newspapers were split into two separate camps.
Firstly there are the tabloids. The tabloids have a long and interesting history behind them. Lord
Northcliffe; then owner of the Daily Mirror, launched the Daily Mirror in November 1903 and
were aimed specifically for the female audience. In 1904 it was re launched at The Daily Illustrated
Mirror as a picture paper for men and women. It used mostly photos and climbed to a circulation of

intending to shock, explain, illicit debates and give solutions to social problems and particularly
the fear of blacks and immigrants during the Windrush years; there were a shortage of workers and
so they turned to colonies for extra workers. In 1981 the Sun and Mirror were losing readers to the

Kelvin Mackenzie who ran bingo competition and slashed the price to beat off the competition.
Following these measures the Sun s circulation rose by sum 500,000 over 3months time period and
the Daily Star never recovered to its previous level.

Stephen Crane s The Open Boat
While taking a cruise to Jamaica for vacations, the ship you are at starts to sink. How do you
think people in the ship would react to this scenario? Stephen Crane, an American author, wrote
the story The Open Boat . The story is about a boat sinking in the middle of the ocean with four
men. The characters presented by Crane in the story are a cook, an oiler, a correspondent, and
the captain. Although the story is narrated from the view of the correspondent; Crane gives the
reader some particular characteristics of the captain. The goal of this paper is to interpret the
character of the captain by discussing his actions, feelings, and quotes presented by Crane. A
captain is an individual who takes leadership and responsibility in a vessel. People think that a
captain can just be found in large ships; however, captains are necessary in any kind of boat, ship,
or yacht. Therefore, in the story Crane gives the authority to the captain. The captain is the one in
charge in the boat and the one that gives directions to the other three men. Throughout the story we
can see that the other three men respected the captain and his decisions. If the three men wanted to
something, they would first consulted with the captain before doing it. After the sinking of the
boat, the captain was really devastated because it was his responsibility and he fail. In the
beginning of the story Cranes defines the captain very sad and with the impotence of not being able
to do anything. (Crane, page

Descriptive Concert
Up until this moment, I had never been to a concert from my favorite band. This concert would
be one of the best moments of my life. The concert took place at the Oregon state fairgrounds in
Salem, Oregon. It was during the time when the annual state fair was taking place. The sky was
filled with clouds that only allowed the sun to peek through on occasion. Sweat drips down our
faces just by standing outside in the humid air. Walking into the fairgrounds dirt, and musty smells
surrounded the senses. Looking to the left and right, crowds of people were surrounding barn
animals to be able to pet and feed them. The strong scent of manure settled in our noses and pushed
us to walk farther into the fair at a quickened pace. We walked through an area that resembled a
saturday market. Booths were set up and the people inside them smiled brightly at us with clearly
hidden intentions behind their smiles. Sounds of people chattering amongst themselves floated
through the air making it hard to hear the person standing next to you. As we rushed through the
crowdpeople cut in front of us causing our group to get split up several times. Looking above us
a fairlift was moving people from far ends of the park. Legs could be seen swing forward and
back as they enjoyed staring at the ants below them. We rushed forward to get to the amphitheater
as quickly as we could. When we arrived at the amphitheatrewe are forced to slow to a sluggish
pace as people filled the amphitheatre like grains of

She mentioned that her father was molested by a farm hand when he was young. Even though her
parents didn t act like a married couple, he trusted her enough to tell that deep of a secret to her. I
feel like she betrayed him even though he also betrayed her multiple times. That is not a secret a
mother should tell her children about their father. However, it also seems like the mother was
blaming the homosexuality on the molestation. Maybe that was her way of dealing with his
unfaithfulness especially with young men.
There are many instances where they show Bruce looking at young teenagers, or even
interacting with them. Her mother ignored the behavior and Alison, in the future, just didn t
fully address his behavior. The first instance was when Bruce looked at the altar boy and her
mother just rolled her eyes at him. Then Alison had a narration stating But would an ideal
husband and father have sex with teenage boys? (pg.17). It was quite a telling scene about her
mother s attitude towards her father. She was willing to let her husband prey after young boys
instead of protecting them. It also surprised me how hypocritical Bruce was. On their trip to New
York, when John wandered off, Bruce was extremely alarmed and he mentioned a phrase
Chickenhawks . Elly defined them as men that prey on boys. This shows that Alison was aware of
his pedophilic ways but in a way chose to ignore them.

Important Function Of The Bha
ABSTRACT
The lower parts of the drill string ranging from Under Reamers, Stabilizers, shocks, Drill bit and
Drill subs as well as Hole openers collectively make up the Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA). It can
also be defined as the components of a drill string that are normally located at the bottom of a
wellbore during drilling procedures. Each of the components comes with a special function that
helps drilling engineers to gain a better control during drilling. Other function of a BHA includes,
helping operators to safely and more efficiently controlling the well in its original or intended

This BHA component comes in various types with each kind designed to suit a particular drilling
job. Figure 1 below shows a prototype of a simple BHA setup and also shows the various
components that make up this unit. A drillbit designed for soft or permeable formations will
almost malfunction in harder formation matrixes and vice versa. The Kelly or Top drive provides
the power needed to spin the drill and by so doing bore through the formation by crushing and
breaking the rocks. Sitting atop the drill bits are the drill collars which helps provide the bit with
the needed weight for penetration. These collars are held together by threads and help to reduce
tension in the drill string that houses the Bottom hole assembly. Figure 1. Bottom Hole Assembly

to the cutters designed to freely expand and contract based on the pressure difference they get

In the 1980s, some enclosed malls were remodelled into open air shopping centres. By the mid
1990s, Malls were still being constructed at a rate of 140 a year. The trend was to build enclosed
malls and to renovate older outdoor malls into enclosed ones. Such malls had advantages, including
temperature control. But by the end of 1990 s the trend took a sharp turn and it was again
fashionable to build open air malls. Finally by 2001, a PricewaterhouseCoopers study found that
underperforming and vacant malls were an emerging problem.
According to new trends, the outdoor outlet malls or big box shopping areas known as power
centres are now favoured, although the traditional enclosed shopping mall is still in demand by
those seeking weather protected, all under one roof shopping. High land prices in populated cities
have led to the concept of the vertical mall, in which space allocated to retail is configured over a
number of stories accessible by elevators and/or escalators (usually both) linking the different levels
of the mall.
The major challenge was to encourage the shopper to move upwards downwards, different from the
traditional tendency of moving horizontally. Vertical malls are common in densely populated
conurbations such as Hong Kong and Bangkok. Ex Times Square in Hong Kong.

deserve the respect honor has to offer. Dmitri Mendeleev was born February 8, 1834. When he
was young, his father went blind and couldn t work. Since his father couldn t work, his mother
re opened the glass factory that his father owned. When he was 13, his father died. Then, the
glass factory burned down when he was 15. Mendeleev had trained as both an academic chemist
and a teacher at his father s old college, partly because the college had known his father. He
suffered from Tuberculosis at 20 and had to work mostly from his bed. When he graduated, he...

It made finding the elements easier and it was able to be altered for the better of the science
community. His table was able to accurately predict the missing elements in his chart. Mendeleev
was very successful in his scientific career after he created the periodic table and is most famous
for that discovery. Mendeleev s periodic table had some flaws, but he used his periodic table to:
Propose that some of the elements, whose behavior did not agree with his predictions, must
have had their atomic weights measured incorrectly. Predict the existence of eight new
elements. Mendeleev even predicted the properties these elements would have. Later it was
found that Dmitri did measure some atomic properties incorrectly. Dmitri Mendeleev s
discovery of the periodic table fulfilled the criteria for honor worthy. His discovery is honor
worthy because the science world would be having a hard time today if it wasn t for his work in
chemistry. All in all, Dmitri Mendeleev is honor worthy because he made the science world more
organized and was unbiased while doing so. Works Cited Dmitri Mendeleev Biography, Facts and

Accounting for Compensation at a Company Essay
Re: Murray Compensation, Inc.

Subsequent to the awards being granted, the stock price has fallen significantly. On January 1,

Title: Bieiris de Romans and Na Maria: Who was the lover, and who was the muse?
Thesis: Although many scholars of troubadour works argue that Bieiris de Roman s Na Maria is
written as a profession of love from one woman to another, closer examination confirms this
affection to be platonic friendship in the language of the period, possibly with sociopolitical
motives.

Decay In The House Of The Seven Gables
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s gothic novel, The House of the Seven Gables, the house plays many
supernatural key roles which changes the mood of the book multiple times. The supernatural role
starts out as a curse put upon those who are descendants of the Pyncheon family, but changes the
culmination of the story. This key element to the story takes on many evil forms, but gives the story
its delightful end. Early on in the story, Matthew Maule curses the Pyncheon family before his
hanging, therefore inciting the supernatural role. Thus brings the beginning of decay and
destruction upon the Pyncheon family which continues on throughout generations. Early on in the
novel, Hawthorne writes, ... and would thus afford the ghost of the latter... Show more content on

Descriptive Essay About Middle School
. One of the most terrifying places on earth is mount sinai middle school, I know what you re
thinking how can a middle school be scary? This school is filled with some of the most brutal
monsters out there, theres cheerleaders, football players and the worst the Hampton girls. These
people seem to have the thought process that the world revolves around them and will destroy
anything in there way. If you do not fit in to any of the horrid social classes then you will be
antagonized and harassed by all of them. Sadly, I was in that situation being one of the only people
not fitting in any category, a lone wolf so to speak.
2. The sound of cheer and trill is in the air. My nostrils fill with the scent of churros, funnel cakes
and cotton candy. The carnival is a place where family and friends gather to enjoy rides and
artificial food. The rides are fast and exhilarating. This is a happy place. I love going to the
carnival especially when I have a boyfriend so I can have the traditional kiss at the top of the
Ferris wheel. Although carnivals are great, they are somewhat of a scam conning people out off a
lot of money just to win a stuffed animal or a pet fish that will die in a week.
3. A chaotic place is an area in my hometown my friends and I call it downport. A neighboring

stark contrast between Old San Juan and here was surprising at first. The buildings weren t well

views. Earlier that month I had lost my job, I felt broken and disappointed. I knew it

Saint Brendan s Exploration
Exploration characterized the Renaissance. However, this did not just happen overnight. It all
started in the Middle Ages with a small group of saints. One man, in particular, helped to set this
exploration notion in motion during this time period. The name of this man is Saint Brendan,
who is sometimes referred to as Brandon. He is considered to be the greatest voyager of all the
saints, thus he was given the nickname Saint Brendan the Navigator. Saint Brendan impacted the
society of the Middle Ages through his personal life, his missions work, and his voyage. Saint
Brendan was born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland in 484 AD. He was born to parents Finnlug
and Cara but he was not raised by them. When he turned one, he was sent to live at the Killeedy

The Feeling Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116
Shakespeare s use of putting pictures in your mind and physical things that refer to ideas or
emotions in 14 line poem 116 hints that love is a constant feeling of love, hate, guilt, etc., which
never gives up to time. Love is a feeling of love, hate, and guilt, which all of us have an idea of. In
fact, a lot of us may even have experienced what we thought of to be true love. However, does such
thing mixed in the level of this feeling of love, hate, and guilt actually exist, and if it does are we
able to define it? This is something that William Shakespeare feels strongly about in Sonnet116 .
Shakespeare sticks to the traditions of the 14 line poem strictly within Sonnet 116 , as it is made
up of fourteen lines in total, with each line consisting itself of ten syllables. The sonnet also follows
a regular stress pattern.
The 14 line poem opens with a statement, proclaiming that it is not the purpose of the voice to
prevent the marriage of true minds . Basically, the voice is taking over what is to follow, in which
the voice outlines their order of what true love actually is. This is something that is put into aspect
by the following statement, love is not love, which changes when it changes finds (116 l.3); this
outlines the voice s main purpose that true love is steady and unchanging, it is not something that
shifts back and forth or bends in the face of outside forces. However it is not only the impact of
the outside world that are unable to bring forth, and as the

The Church Went Through A Period Of Cruel Persecution
INTRODUCTION
The Church went through a period of cruel persecution under various Roman Empire emperors
prior to the 4th century. The church also had to go through the issue with heretics inside the church.
During this crucial period in church history, one of the important theological and ecclesiastical
question concerned Christology. Christology deals with the life of Jesus Christ. One bishop, Arius,
taught that Jesus was not God the Son. God providentially sent a man, St. Athanasius, to defend the
Lord s church.St. Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria, became an important figure in church history.
The cconflict with Arius and the successive Roman emperors shaped Athanasius s ministry career.

Alexandria was a leading commercial and cultural center in the Mediterranean world, second only to
Rome itself . ...Alexandria became a great Christian learning center, the home of the great
catechetical school of Christian instruction... this is the place where Athanasius would get his
education. More importantly, The background to the conflict lay in the church of Alexandria .
St. Athanasius was born around the year AD 297 to a Christian family in the city of Alexandria.
His parents were wealthy enough to afford giving him a fine secular education. At the young age
of 10 years old, in A.D. 306, there was a baptism ritual with other children. Playing the part of a
church official, he baptized one of the children during this sacrament of baptism. He impressed the
bishop of Alexandria, Alexander, which he became one of his disciples.
He writes his treaties to Macarius, true lover of Christ. In 318 Athanasius wrote his most famous
work, De Incarnatione Verbi (On the Incarnation of the Word ), which shows the influence of
Irenaeus and Origen; the incarnate Logos was divine and restored

Factors In Charles Duhigg s The Power Of Habits
Habits are choices that people continue to make repeatedly without consciously thinking about
them. They start as decisions, but eventually become an autonomic process. Habits are very useful
tools if known how to construct properly, however, they can also be destructive. It is crucial to
understand how they work and the components behind them in order to overcome the destructive
habits. A common misconception about habits is that in order for one to change their habit,
willpower is the most important component. Many people try to change their habits and often fail.
The main reason they fail is because they believe that changing habits relies only on willpower the
control exerted to do something or restrain impulses without understanding the nature of how
habits work. In Charles Duhigg s The Power of Habit, he explains how habits work and what
components must be understood in order to overcome bad habits effectively. Although willpower
relates to habit change, the most important and effective components of changing habits include
the habit loop, craving, and routine. Charles Duhigg counters the misconception of willpower by
explaining that habits can be changed with the knowledge of how the habit loop works. Duhigg
states that by understanding what habits are and how they exist in daily life, it will be easier to
focus on certain places where habits can be changed most effectively. According to The Power of
Habit, a habit has three steps. First there is a cue, which is a

Theme Of Dishonest In The Jungle
Upton Sinclair s novel The Jungle is a classic story of greed, corruption, and misfortune following
Jurgis Rudkis and his love interest/eventual wife, Ona Lukosazite, and their two families. The
novel shows off the complexity of and fickle nature of life and all that within it that we all take for
granted. The characters feel very human and their troubles are very sympathetic as well. One
begins to feel delight as well as anguish at the author s non existent mercy.
Dishonest is a running theme in The Jungle . So then, why? , you might ask, are people so
dishonest in both the and book, but also reality? Well the answer is quite simple, in fact. People
are dishonest whenever it is that they wish to help themselves in any given situation. Whether
the goal is to protect themselves or others, or to swindle others for their own benefit, they are
lying to help themselves. Everyone lied about the age of Stanislovas, so that he could work and
help support everyone. The grafter used rather underhanded methods in order to add even further
to his already abundant amount of income even if it meant harming others in the process. The
house salesman was outrageously dishonest about the house he wrongly sold to Jurgis and his
company, as well as about how payments in America worked, and all so he could get his already
rich self even richer. So in essence, all lying comes from the universal desire to protect. Whether it
be to protect oneself or others is subjective to the individual.

How Gender Roles Have Played A Big Part Of The History Essay
Gender roles have played a big part of the history of this country and in this new day and age are
becoming more progressive. Women in men gender roles are not at all such a horrendous idea. In
some cases, jobs traditionally performed by men, were done better by female employees but some
some careers are specifically meant for men. Women should not take part in militarycombat or any
career that carries the same physical demands. Here are two examples accompanied by arguments

Holden s Loss Of Hope In Catcher In The Rye
In the last two chapter of Catcher In the Rye, Holden s emotions and relation to hope is
constantly changing. Hope is a strange thing in Holden s mind and in the book, for he often has
a lack of hope causing him depression. He thinks there is nothing in the world for him, and that
he is alone, concluding after much time to run away again. But in the end, he never runs away
because of his rock. This rock, the thing that holds him in New York City, is his sister, Phoebe.
She is the one who gives the hope in the book to Holden, whether through her innocent mind or

the Jeep as my broken ankle flopped back and forth. Upon arriving at the hospital, I was rushed
to the X ray room to access the damage that had been done. I remember the comment the
technician made to my boyfriend after I was sent to a room to wait, We still need to take her for a
CT scan to know the full extent of the damage, but from the looks of the X ray s, there is no way
those bones are going back together without surgery. The ankle is shattered. Those words were
burned into my head as I was taken for a CT scan and then finally returned to my bed. I
remember finally feeling calmer as they put the IV in my arm and injected me full of drugs to
help with the immense pain. The doctor came in to tell me that I had a bimalleolar fracture and
explained that I multiple fractures on my fibula and my tibia. The only fix would

  • 2. The Decline of the West The Decline of the West In todays world we are getting more and more materialized. When being a kid in school it is all about getting the newest phone, wearing the most expensive clothing and every other materialized thing, to show off how much money we have. We measure our happiness in things, clothes, cars and so on. The greed of getting more and new things is decreasing. Before the financial crises in 2008 every family lent money to buy new things all the time. No worries were to be shown in any family, until the crack happened. Nowadays the crisis has slowly turned around again and in school it s still about collecting the newest items. In the short story from 2010 by Hanif Kureishi, the problem of greed and a materialized world is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this view the kids seems rather ungrateful and rude to their father and we don t see their side of the story. It seems like everyone is against Mike and that no one is happy about Mike working hard to delight his family. On the contrary it would look rather different if it had been from the wife or kids point of view. The title The Decline of the West can be a directly reference to the western worlds economic problems. This theme is clear throughout the short story, where especially Mike thinks about his choice of lifestyle that he and many others have had through many years. He considers whether the financial crises can be the punishment for this: Like many people, Mike had also worried whether the present catastrophe was punishment for years of extravagance and self indulgence. (p. 4, l. 86 87) Another thing to notice about the short story is how values like love, closeness and indulgence is nowhere to be found. And the title can therefore be related to moral degeneration, which Mike s family is an example of. The title can be a critical comment on the western worlds excessive focus on money at the expense of more important thing like family and Mike is actually thinking about the Marxism prediction, which affects him personally: Since capitalism was cracking under the weight of its contradictions as the Marxists has predicted ... they would have to find a ... • 3. Fashion In The 1920 s Fashion. It can be interpreted in many different ways; fashion is a form of art, self expression, and a way of defining someone. For many years, fashion has developed and changed drastically to appeal to flocking consumers. Who knew that the clothing one wore could have so much value? In many cases, women played a big role, from time periods before the 1800 s till now. Previously, women had been considered only housewives, catering to needs of their children, cleaning, and the overall maintenance of their homes. They were not able to pursue jobs outside their homes as this was unacceptable in society. However, there is a perpetual pattern of the change in fashionas women gain more rights and step out of their boundaries. In a sense, women became bold and fearless. The 1920 s along with the 1960 s are also periods that emphasize the changes in fashion due to major societal changes. One will begin to notice monumental movements that form due to injustice of women s rights; the rights to vote... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hippie movement later in the decade also exerted a strong influence on ladies clothing styles, including bell bottom jeans, tie dye, and batik fabrics, as well as paisley prints. Hippies were spontaneous, passionate and rebellious. Instead of conforming to the normal standards of living, hippies dressed in bright colors, did drugs, and promoted freedom. They explored drugs such as marijuana and LSD to find different forms of consciousness. Their vocal opposition to the United States involvement in the Vietnam War (1955 1975) and the increasingly rocky road to shared civil rights among all Americans led to this new, alternative form of activism. (Brief History of Hippie culture). They felt like they needed to express themselves in a way so people knew their opinions on the United States involvement in the Vietnam War. Again, there was emphasis on floral prints and bring colors to promote peace and happiness. It was unisex dressing, first to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Machiavelli s The Prince And Leviathan Although misunderstood when introduced to society during their time, Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince and Thomas Hobbes Leviathan have been two of the most influential political works in history. The Prince and Leviathan, although seen as immoral and almost wicked works of their time, have guided many political thinkers, even America s own Thomas Jefferson, on the subject of governance and power. This paper will compare the similarities and differences between both works in terms of the historical settings in which they were written as well as between the two distinct political philosophies presented by each man. More specifically, this paper will differentiate the purpose of power between Machiavelli s theory of an absolute ruler separated from morals and ethics compared to Hobbes reasoning for a necessary and absolute ruler to put an end to the chaotic state of nature he presents. Identification of Documents The Prince, written by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1513 in his native Italian language, was a book dedicated to Florence s then leader Lorenzo de Medici in an effort for Machiavelli to gain a position in Florence s new government. The book was intended to help guide Lorenzo and other present and future leaders in gaining and maintaining power, more specifically to aid Lorenzo in unifying Italy under one ruler. Machiavelli lived during a time of great political strife in Italy as the small city states of Italy, the Papal States, and the powerful states of Spain and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Educational Psychology Educational Psychology fosters an understanding for student development and helps teachers be effective, design lessons and make a difference for their students. First we must define what education psychology is, and how it applies student development and to the education community. The textbook, Educational Psychologywritten by Anita Woolfolk, (2012), defines educational psychologyas, A distinct discipline with its own theories, research methods, problems, and techniques. Educational psychologists do research on learning and teaching and, at the same time, work to improve educational practice. (p. 12). • 6. Research Paper On Health Insurance Can everyone in the United States have a Health insurance? That is the big question. As we know it s impossible to get treated in the hospital without health insurance because it s very expensive. Let me talk about my story, when I have arrived to the United States at Arizona, Tempe specifically, I got very ill because I have Asthma so I couldn t breath properly, so my friend took me to St Luke Hospital in Tempe, the doctor gave me Oxygen mask only nothing more. Then when I got better it s time to checkout so they gave me the bill and it was 2500 $, I was choked with the price but I have realized that my insurance company will take care of it. In fact, nearly 40 million Americans does not have health insurance, most of them can t afford the price of the health insurance. This issue is leading to many deaths in the United States due to not having a health care. • 27. Descriptive Essay About Middle School . One of the most terrifying places on earth is mount sinai middle school, I know what you re thinking how can a middle school be scary? This school is filled with some of the most brutal monsters out there, theres cheerleaders, football players and the worst the Hampton girls. These people seem to have the thought process that the world revolves around them and will destroy anything in there way. If you do not fit in to any of the horrid social classes then you will be antagonized and harassed by all of them. Sadly, I was in that situation being one of the only people not fitting in any category, a lone wolf so to speak. 2. The sound of cheer and trill is in the air. My nostrils fill with the scent of churros, funnel cakes and cotton candy. The carnival is a place where family and friends gather to enjoy rides and artificial food. The rides are fast and exhilarating. This is a happy place. I love going to the carnival especially when I have a boyfriend so I can have the traditional kiss at the top of the Ferris wheel. Although carnivals are great, they are somewhat of a scam conning people out off a lot of money just to win a stuffed animal or a pet fish that will die in a week. 3. I watched the locals standing in doorways of grocery markets and bars, or sitting in old lawn chairs speaking rapidly and laughing with each other as they watched me in return. This wasn t a place use to outsiders. The stark contrast between Old San Juan and here was surprising at first. The buildings weren t well maintained and the boardwalk well worn. He is considered to be the greatest voyager of all the saints, thus he was given the nickname Saint Brendan the Navigator. It was found that Columbus used Brendan s journey as a reference to make sure it was even possible to make it across the Atlantic. This finding would later inspire a man to go on a journey that proved Saint Brendan s journey was possible. This man was Tim Severin. In 1976, he sailed across the Atlantic from Ireland to America in a traditional Irish currach, just like the one that Brendan would have used. He made it across. This showed that the voyage across the Atlantic would indeed have been possible. Now this does not absolutely prove that Brendan took the trip but it does increase the possibility of it ... • 30. The Feeling Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 Shakespeare s use of putting pictures in your mind and physical things that refer to ideas or emotions in 14 line poem 116 hints that love is a constant feeling of love, hate, guilt, etc., which never gives up to time. Love is a feeling of love, hate, and guilt, which all of us have an idea of. In fact, a lot of us may even have experienced what we thought of to be true love. However, does such thing mixed in the level of this feeling of love, hate, and guilt actually exist, and if it does are we able to define it? This is something that William Shakespeare feels strongly about in Sonnet116 . Shakespeare sticks to the traditions of the 14 line poem strictly within Sonnet 116 , as it is made up of fourteen lines in total, with each line consisting itself of ten syllables. The sonnet also follows a regular stress pattern. The 14 line poem opens with a statement, proclaiming that it is not the purpose of the voice to prevent the marriage of true minds . Basically, the voice is taking over what is to follow, in which the voice outlines their order of what true love actually is. This is something that is put into aspect by the following statement, love is not love, which changes when it changes finds (116 l.3); this outlines the voice s main purpose that true love is steady and unchanging, it is not something that shifts back and forth or bends in the face of outside forces. However it is not only the impact of the outside world that are unable to bring forth, and as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Factors In Charles Duhigg s The Power Of Habits Habits are choices that people continue to make repeatedly without consciously thinking about them. They start as decisions, but eventually become an autonomic process. Habits are very useful tools if known how to construct properly, however, they can also be destructive. It is crucial to understand how they work and the components behind them in order to overcome the destructive habits. A common misconception about habits is that in order for one to change their habit, willpower is the most important component. Many people try to change their habits and often fail. The main reason they fail is because they believe that changing habits relies only on willpower the control exerted to do something or restrain impulses without understanding the nature of how habits work. In Charles Duhigg s The Power of Habit, he explains how habits work and what components must be understood in order to overcome bad habits effectively. Although willpower relates to habit change, the most important and effective components of changing habits include the habit loop, craving, and routine. Charles Duhigg counters the misconception of willpower by explaining that habits can be changed with the knowledge of how the habit loop works. Duhigg states that by understanding what habits are and how they exist in daily life, it will be easier to focus on certain places where habits can be changed most effectively. According to The Power of Habit, a habit has three steps. First there is a cue, which is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Theme Of Dishonest In The Jungle Upton Sinclair s novel The Jungle is a classic story of greed, corruption, and misfortune following Jurgis Rudkis and his love interest/eventual wife, Ona Lukosazite, and their two families. The novel shows off the complexity of and fickle nature of life and all that within it that we all take for granted. The characters feel very human and their troubles are very sympathetic as well. One begins to feel delight as well as anguish at the author s non existent mercy. Dishonest is a running theme in The Jungle . So then, why? , you might ask, are people so dishonest in both the and book, but also reality? Well the answer is quite simple, in fact. People are dishonest whenever it is that they wish to help themselves in any given situation. Whether the goal is to protect themselves or others, or to swindle others for their own benefit, they are lying to help themselves. Everyone lied about the age of Stanislovas, so that he could work and help support everyone. The grafter used rather underhanded methods in order to add even further to his already abundant amount of income even if it meant harming others in the process. The house salesman was outrageously dishonest about the house he wrongly sold to Jurgis and his company, as well as about how payments in America worked, and all so he could get his already rich self even richer. So in essence, all lying comes from the universal desire to protect. Whether it be to protect oneself or others is subjective to the individual. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
