Characterization of Rachel Through the Use of Literary...
Characterization of Rachel Through the Use of Literary Techniques in Cisneros Eleven
Sandra Cisneros writes a memoir through the eyes of an eleven year old. Turning eleven happens
to be a tragic day for the main character, Rachel. Through various literary techniques such as
hyperbole, simile, and syntax, Rachel is characterized. Rachel is a fresh turning eleven year old
who finds herself in an awful situation on her birthday. Forced to wear a raggedy old sweater
that doesn t belong to her, she makes it defiantly clear her feelings towards the clothing item, and
we see this through use of hyperboles. Rachel describes the sweater as ugly and too stretched out
like you could use it for a jump rope. This extreme exaggeration demonstrates ... Show more content

This inner defiance gives evidence to Rachel s determination and individuality. The sweater now
represents a sort of barrier and if she submits herself to it, she fears the world of ages and maturity.
The inner battle continues through use of similes and syntax patterns. Cisneros brilliantly weaves a
series of vivid metaphors that of an eleven year old to further portray Rachel s character. Today I
wish I didn t have only eleven years rattling inside me like pennies in a tin band aid box. This
simile characterizes Rachel as not only a child but also portrays her desire to be older. The
image evokes a childish habit of collecting pennies in a tin box, a juvenile form of a most
precious piggy bank. But in addition to labeling Rachel s age, it also hints at her feelings of
wanting out. Rachel feels trapped by her ripe young age of eleven because she feels as if she
doesn t have the years behind her to justify her non acceptance of the sweater. Afraid to say no
and stand up for herself, Rachel unwillingly has to take the sweater, which smells like cottage
cheese and hangs over the edge of her desk like a waterfall. Again, we see glances into Rachel s
mind and how she envisions the dreadful sweater. The images allow us to see into an eleven year
old s thoughts and see how the situation looks from a child s eyes. Telling it like it is, as Rachel
seems to do quite often, she describes the smell as cottage cheese, a

Is America A Republic Essay
The United State of America from the very beginning is a republic and still remains a republic. It
has never been a democracy even though some people argue that it is a democracy. The founding
fathers gave the country a republic and this was a result of their beliefs that democracy is evil and
dangerous. According to Ron Paul, the republicsystem was instituted to protect individual and
property rights from tyranny. He further claims that the individual rights of minorities are
endangered by majority rule or democracy. ( see Williams .P. Meyers; America: Republic or
Democracy)
Americans are generally made to believe that, they the people hold the utmost power to their
nation. However , it would be safe to a reasonable extent that America is nowhere near being a
democratic nation. Note that the only reason why America is said to be a democracy is simply
because it allows its citizens the right to elect those who will represent them both at the state and
district level.
Nowadays , many people now agree that America has never been or nor had the intention to be
purely a democratic nation. Looking from various views of scholars, some have classified America
as a federal republic or as a constitutional republic. In facts this is true. A true representation of the

The Struggle In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
James Hurst, the author of The Scarlet Ibis, enhanced the quality of his already great story by
adding many different literary devices. In The Scarlet Ibis the main character, Doodle, was
expected to live a much shortened live due to his premature birth. He defies expectations and lives
through his life expectancy, although he was pronounced paralyzed. His brother had a hard time
dealing with a paralyzed brother. Doodle s brother tries his best to help him do everyday things,
such as walk and run. Nobody seemed to fully understand Doodle until the scarlet ibisshowed up in
the family s backyard. Throughout this story, there are many different examples of symbolism,
mood, and conflict that all define the struggle that lays in front... Show more content on

Symbolism is the use of an object, person, situation, or word to represent something else, according
to a video on Study Academy s website. An example of symbolism in The Scarlet Ibisreads Even
death did not mar its grace, for it lay on the earth like a broken vase of red flowers, and we stood
around it, awed by its exotic beauty (Hurst 473). Doodle, much like the scarlet ibis, left the family
in awe. After Doodle s many accomplishments, their family could not believe what they had just
seen. The author tied these characters together to symbolize the strive for success Doodle wished
to achieve. The scarlet ibis had died almost immediately died after the family had seen it. James
Hurst symbolized the two characters by showing their similarities. Even though Doodle had
lived to be at least 6, that is not a long, fully lived life. As soon as Doodle started to overcome
adversity, he died. Both of their deaths were after a challenge was put upon them. The bird had
fluttered to the ground after leaping off the branch and never catching flight; Doodle was
attempting to keep up with his brother when he fell. Both were found under a tree, dead, without a
chance of help. Symbolism, in this story, is effective and improves the overall

Significant Role of the Hippocampus Essay
Significant Role of Hippocampus
Hippocampus is a small, curved region, which exists in both hemispheres of the brain and plays a
vital role in emotions, learning and acquisition of new information. It also contributes majorly to
long term memory, which is permanent information stored in the brain. Although long term
memory is the last information that can be forgotten, its impairment has become very common
nowadays. The dysfunction is exemplified by many neurological disorders such as amnesia. There
are two types of amnesia, anterograde and retrograde. Anterograde amnesia is inability in forming
new information, while retrograde refers to the loss of the past memory. As suggested by Cipolotti
and Bird (2006), hippocampus s lesions are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that bilateral and unilateral hippocampus does not contribute majorly to familiarity and
recollection of unknown human s faces.
Since hippocampus plays an important function in the brain, it has become a great topic for many
conducted research not only on human but also animals, specifically primates and rodents. In
primate model of amnesia, the experiment is performed through three main tasks delayed nonmatch
to sample, object discrimination paradigm and motor skill learning across multiple trials
(Eichenbaum et al, 1992). In delayed non matching test, both amnesic and intact monkey show
nearly same performance rate in remembering objects across delayed in short period of time
(Eichenbaum et al, 1992). In contrast, amnesic monkeys show a great impairment for longer
delayed conditions, hours, in picking the right non matched samples (Eichenbaum et al, 1992).
Likewise, in object discrimination task, amnesic monkeys are unable to recognize objects, as
compared to control monkeys (Eichenbaum et al, 1992).These tests suggest the importance of
hippocampus in acquisition of new information and recollection old events from episodic memory.
Additionally, hippocampus also contributes largely to relational representation, as a characteristic
of declarative memory (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). This can be shown through odor discrimination

Human Impact On Climate Change
The human race all around the world wonders if the climate is changing due to human activity or
if it is just a natural occurrence. At certain parts of the Earth s surface, the climate can be observed
much differently than other locations. As the years go by the average temperature of the Earth
increases by little intervals. There are several different reasons why people believe the climate is
changing every year. However, the increase of worldwide population and production of heat to the
atmosphereis due to the increase of human activities that take place on a daily basis. Human
activity is the main cause of the global climate change. The human impact on climate exceeds any
known changes due to natural processes. The impact of this human activity is often misunderstood
when looking at climate change. Scientists and experts from areas all over give their input on this
major world discussion. These experts all around the world have many different opinions on how
the climate is changing. Each opinion is supported by facts, models, or surveys from major
universities. The models allow scientists to simulate the behavior of climate and how natural and
human factors affect the climate. The 2013 Cook review of 11,944 peer reviewed studies on
climate change found that only 78 studies explicitly rejected the position that humans are
responsible for global warming. A separate review of 13,950 peer reviewed studies on climate

On May 1966, Soldiers of the 6th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) had arrived in
South Vietnam with the main force joining in June. Within two months the battalion had found
themselves engaged with one of the most brutal battles fought by Australians during the Vietnam
War.
By August 1966 the Australian task force posted at Nui Dat was only three months old. Concerned
by the establishment of the large enemy presence in their midst, the Vietnam Cong decided to
inflict an early defeat upon the Australians. Days prior to the battle radio signals that indicated the
presence of strong Viet Cong forces within 5 kilometers of the base were reported, but patrols could
find nothing.

Harry S Truman Dbq
Harry S. Truman
On 8th of January 1947, at Harry S. Truman s first economic report as president to the congress of
the United Sates, he said, America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on
imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand , but little did Truman know that
these beliefs of his would become misunderstood and critiqued by the masses in coming times.
When Harry S. Truman left the presidency in January 1953, he was one of the most unpopular
politicians in the United States. However, this is unjustified as he was a real democrat for the
people and was an honest president. Furthermore, he did not make many poor discussions nor
was he inadequate leader, yet he got undeserved and bias criticism by the people of the United
States. Truman continually faced tough challenges and had to pick up from where Franklin D.
Roosevelt s unanticipated death left the nation in a mess. He was the Commander in Chief of the
United States military during the final months of World War II. Under his command, the U.S.
dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, effectively ending the war. For
many Americans, Truman s legacy as the nation s leader centres on these controversial decisions.
He had courage, imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand, yet he was
branded as a bad president during his time. In spite of that, he has overcome his challenges and had
stayed strong even after he returned to private life,

150,000 aboriginal children were removed and separated from their families and communities to

aboriginals ways (Miller, 2012). This happened around the 1870s when the implication of the Indian
Act required the Canadian Government to provide the indigenous youth with educationand integrate
them to Canadian society. The Residential schools were originally made by Christian Churches

Examples Of Propaganda In The Aeneid
The Aeneid: A Political Propaganda
Introduction
Political propaganda has dominated most of literature works. Various literature books contain half
truths or blatant false stories that are meant to serve the interest of some nations, communities,
emperors, kingdoms, and religious beliefs. The misinformed approach in literature books seeks to
persuade, influence, or manipulate readers using information that is specifically defined and
disseminated for this purpose. As a medium of communication, leaders have used literature works
over the years to brainwash, deceive, persuade, and enhance certain euphoria on people. Propaganda
is packaged in a strategic way that makes it difficult for people to distinguish the thin line between

Scully and Fletcher (1987) reveal various episodes of death that are depicted in a simple manner
that appeals to all readers. Since people are ignorant of complex messages and/or will only pay
simple attention to written information, Virgilfully exploits this aspect while talking about death.
For instance, he says, At Dido s head she came to rest...And out into the winds her life withdrew
(Virgil, 2008, p. 971). Death is feared by all people. In fact, the mention of death causes alarm and
attention. Virgil exploits the simplest way of awakening and pulling the attention and
concentration of readers by depicting death in a simple way. For example, leaders that are
involved in various wars before their deaths have a secluded magnificent place in the underworld as
seen in Aeneas words, there are souls that go from here...Aloft to upper heaven (Virgil, 2008, p.
965). This move enhances the war propaganda that leaders can kill their opponents whilst being
honored by gods. Death is painted in a way that warrants no attention of the reader. According to
Heiny (2013), Virgil also emphasizes reincarnation that people will live again after death. This
propaganda on death as not being eternal further simplifies the idea of death. The propaganda is
meant to prepare Romans to volunteer in war to channel their energies and life to defending the
opponents of their kingdom as seen in Jupiter s words, What privilege for these, your
ships...Shall hulls that mortal hands have made enjoy a right...That only immortals have (Virgil,
2008, pp. 132 135). People are also persuaded to be good to their families, neighbors, and other
citizens in order to have a good place in the underworld and/or during rebirth. Jupiter says, Every
man s last day is fixed. Lifetimes are brief, and not to be regained (Virgil, 2008, p. 650). This
propaganda spreads peace within the kingdom whilst equipping people with information that is

Reflection In My Life
Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of
activities coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around
college, careers, and ourselves as people. These activities taught us life skills that we can apply
in our life. For example, some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART
goals, long term goals, skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to
our potential career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how
to apply those life skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn
more about ourselves as people.
Throughout my life I have always felt like I knew myself, but until recently I have never, truly
known myself. These traits are one of my utmost important values to me in the sense that they are
what I do my best to live by them. My five main values are creativity, compassion, empathy, love,
and wisdom. I value creativity since through that I am able to express myself. Compassion is
important to me being that I cannot be a bystander and forsake the people suffering or the guilt
would eat me alive, knowing I could have done something to help. Most of my life I have
empathized with people, putting myself in their shoes and feeling their emotions, so that Is why
empathy is one of my core values in view of How are you going to understand someone if you

Reflection On Hiroshima
In John Hersey s Hiroshima, he writes about the lives of six people before, during, and after the
horrific atomic bombing. Heresy explains the horrors and the aftermath of the atomic bombs
that were dropped in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. John writes the story of six survivors to
show their experience during the catastrophe and how they had moved on with their lives.
Throughout the story, John expresses his disapproval to the idea of dropping the atomic bombs
onto the two Japanese cities through the imagery of bombs aftermath, the characters he chose to
write about, and the terrifying descriptions of the noiseless flash. After reading this story, and
understanding the horrific things the bomb caused, I still agree with the fact that we dropped it
because I believe the atomic bombs were effective in ending World War II and preventing the
Japanese from attacking more American forces but the cost and distraction caused by the bomb
was too high to be considered fair. Perhaps we would have been able to end the war slowly
without the use of mass fire power of the atomic bombs and not endanger the lives of the people
John Hersey wrote about. In the first chapter of the book, Heresey writes about what the six
survivors were doing before the bomb hit. He would go back and forth between characters, till the
moment the bomb hit on their side of the story. The most crucial detail he wrote about at the end of
their stories was the bright, noiseless flash. For example, one of the

Diffferences in Detective Stories Essays
Throughout the years detective stories have changed due to the time period and what was
socially acceptable. For instance, at one point in time women were only seen as the damsel in
distress even in detective stories. Whereas now in the remake of Sherlock Holmes the character
played by Rachel McAdams has a huge role in helping solve cases. Another difference, although
this depends on the writer, is at what point the actual murder takes place whether it is at the
beginning of the story or the end. Edgar Allen Poe may have started off the detective story frenzy
with his character Dupin but since then stories, roles of women and men, and how the stories are
organized has changed, possibly for the better. In Edgar Allen Poe s detective... Show more content

Just like in the other stories you have a male detective who is very cunning. He quickly learns
the different habits of all the people that come and go from the hotel and what their reactions are
to certain scenarios or situations. This story is actually different because the murder does not
happen until the end of the story. Another difference is that the murder happened a little more
close to home seeing as how it was the detectives own brother who was killed. It was also the
detectives own fault because if he had not been protecting the girl that his brother was going
after then his brother would not have died. All of these detective stories were very similar. They
all had a male role that was very smart and analytical and for the most part the storylines were all
the same. One added going undercover to the mix and another completely flip flopped the
murder so that it happened at the end of the book instead of the beginning. In these stories the
men all had to prove themselves and show that they could do the job they were assigned whether
it was to another character in the book or instead to the reader. Now these are the stories that have
shaped the detective stories that we read about and watch on TV even today. Whether it is NCIS,
Murder She Wrote, Walker Texas Ranger, Law and Order or any spin off imaginable they all
started with the same building blocks that the first ones did.

A Debate on Brand Viability
01)Take a position on one of the following statements: a) All brands have a limited life as
indicated by the product life cycle and will slip or disappear. b) There is no reason why a
successful brand can t live forever. Provide examples to support your position. (1 page) I firmly
believe that there is no reason why a successful brand can t live forever. I recently read an article
about Channel No. 5, a brand of cologne and perfume that is passed from generation to
generation. The tagline of the article reads: Sometimes a perfume can be more than a fragrance.
It can be a declaration of independence, a rite of passage, even a potent link between the
generations (Hingston, 2012). Some products or services that people use become a tradition
something that they always buy when celebrating or the one person they rely on to make things
right. There is the tailor who fits all the suits of the men in the family young and old who is so
special to the family (almost, it seems, like a family member) that they wouldn t consider taking
their alterations or new attire to anyone else. Interestingly, Channel No. 5 is that kind of
legendary product. Hingston wrote that Channel No. 5 was what I longed to smell like, what I
longed to be like, high end, exotic. It was what Mom wore on evenings out, to drink cocktails, to
participate in the adult world that was a mystery to me (2012, p. 60). All one really has to do to

Analysis On The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System
The integrated geophysical, remote sensing, isotopic and geochronologic and modelling studies on
the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System have come up with the following findings and
recommendations:
1 Geophysical studies:
Based on the integration of gravity, magnetic, and borehole data the structural trends, uplifts and
sedimentary cover affecting the aquifer behavior have been conducted. The area of the NSAS is
affected by several structural trends in different directions; the most prominent directions are NE
SW, N S, E W, and NW SE. The dominant NE SW trend is associated with the Pelusium and
Qattara mega shears.
The sedimentary cover shows a northward increase from less than 0.5 km in northern Sudan and
southern Egypt to more than 6 km at the Mediterranean coast. The sediments thickness shows a
shallowing of the basement rocks along the east west trending Uweinat Aswan basement uplift
which may impede the south to north groundwater flow and replenishment from the recharge areas
in the south.
The NE SW trending Pelusium mega shear cuts the Precambrian rocks and continues upward in
the sedimentary cover; it formed deep structural controlled basins along its zone, which were filled
by high thick sediments of relatively high hydraulic conductivities extending from the Kufra Basin
in Libya and Chad to the northern part of Dakhla Basin in Egypt. This zone could provide a
preferred groundwater flow pathway from the Kufra to the Dakhla Basin.

money for two dogs. Billy made a difficult journey to get his dogs. He loved his dogs very much
and spent almost a whole time to train his dogs. Eventhough there were many problems came to

Second, in the book Little Ann was known to be smarter than Old Dan, but in the movie they

about how Billy caught the first coon to train his dogs, while the movie did not show such an
action. The next difference is the chapter 11 of the book tells about Little Ann who almost got
drowned in the icy water and Billy could save her owing to his old lantern, but we couldn t see it
in the movie. Another different thing is when Billy and The Pritchards boys, Rainie and Rubin,
had a bet to tree the ghost coon. The book mentions that they betted two dollars for it, but 5 dollars
in the movie. It is said in the book how Little Ann won the best looking hound contest, but the
process didn t appear in the movie. The last thing is in the book Billy got 4 coons, so he could
win the contest, while in the movie it is said that Billy didn t win the championship but he was
given the title by Mr. Bellington, the one who won the match. Both the novel and the movie have
the strengths and weaknesses. In my opinion, it is more clearly explained about the strong bonds
between Billy and his dogs in the book than in the movie. I can really understand how much Billy
loved his dogs, and the expression of love was more in the book than in the movie. The book gives
more detailed information than the movie. However, I prefer watching the movie because it seems

What Is Global Competitiveness Is Becoming More About ...
In today s environment, companies have to compete on every level, as the markets are getting
increasingly competitive. Competition is no longer simply down to product and instead
organisations have to take other things into consideration, particularly their strategy for success.
Companies have to look for a way to diversify themselves from their competitors in the market and
the main way of doing this is to focus on their mind set. This essay will look to evaluate the extent
to which global competitiveness is becoming more about mind set versus mind set or whether
companies still depend on product versus product as their foundation of success (Hamel and
Prahalad, 1993, p77). Taking into consideration theories of strategic intent,... Show more content on

For example, the operations department within an organisation need to be ensuring that production
levels are high, whilst the marketing department need to be advertising the products to the extent
that makes production meet sales. Without the right mind set in departments and the attitudes of
organisational members being consistent throughout an organisation, the likelihood of success is
minimal. People will be working towards different things and resources will be divided amongst
different projects and therefore never actually reaching their full potential (Mintzberg et al, 1987;
Hamel and Prahalad, 1993). Strategic intent, a notion pioneered by Hamel and Prahalad (1990) can
be considered to be at the heart of a company with a strong, prosperous mind set. This notion
outlines the organisations ambition that creates the mind set within and pushes all components of
the organisation to achieve the goals outlined by management. An organisations strategic intent can
be best understood as big, hairy, audacious goals (Collins and Porras, 2000, cited in McGee et al,
2010, p30) that define their long term vision and the small steps that need to be taken in order to
achieve this, emphasised by the analogy; a marathon run in 400 meter sprints (Hamel and Prahalad,
1990, p43). Companies with a strategic intent that appeared out of proportion to their resources and
capabilities and therefore shaped the

Space. That cold void between the stars. A gateway to adventure, and oblivion. A home to many,
and a grave for countless others.
John doe though of these things as he looked out into the stars. Suddenly a shrill beep rang across
his comm. The airlock status lights turned green, flashing as the airlock slowly opened. When the
doors were fully open John began walking forward. He walked past the usual stop, the airlock
tether locker, and looked out into space.
Walker Clear he said into his comm as he readied himself on the edge of the platform. From the
vantage point of the airlock he could see his target. The dilapidated wreck of a Telisian freighter.

It would have been salvaged years ago if not for the fact that the reigning sector authority granted
all salvaging rights to the Atari Salvaging guild, and like most of the guilds claims, the freighter
had just sat in space ever since.
As he approached the cargo hold of the freighter he quickly eased back on the thrusters of his
suit. Scanner is live he said as he pressed another few buttons on his sleeve. The scanner mounted
on the side of his helmet came to life as it scanned the surrounding area. A glowing HUD popped
up on his helmet indicating the results of the scan. A large portion of the cargo hold had been
breached in the evacuation however the 3 crates he was looking for were still intact. Looks like the
cargo s still in one piece he said as he deactivated the scanner while simultaneously starting forward
again with the suit thrusters set to quarter power.
Good. Get the cargo and get back here. I don t like siting still this long jack said nervousness in
his voice. That was jack for you, always afraid of getting caught doing something less then legal.
You worry to much john said. He maneuvered aft toward the nearest hole in the cargo hold hull.
Arriving moments latter he disengaged his thrusters and slowly drifted inside the abandoned ship.
Once he was floating over the metallic floor of the cargo hold he pressed a different button on his
sleeve and suddenly fell to the floor, magnetically sealed to its surface.

Gambling In Edith Wharton s The House Of Mirth
Other characters in The House of Mirth are not affected by gambling and risk taking as severely
as Lily is because they have the financial means and power to gamble or recover from their
mistakes. In the nineteenth century and more specifically the Gilded Age of New York City,
marriage and money were what measured power, so since Lily had neither of those, her position
in that society was very fragile. In Victoria Shinbrot s article Risk and Subversion in Edith
Wharton s The House of Mirth , she ponders the question of Lily s peers being ever [so]
conscious of the looming perception of her public decline and moral failure (42). Lily defends her
playing by saying that Mrs. Trenor had expected it in exchange for her prolonged hospitality,...

Her first and recurring risk is with Lawrence Selden, a bachelor who tries to distances himself
from Old New York. Lily s first decision in the book was to go on walk alone and away from
Grand Central Station with Selden, she gets caught coming from Selden s apartment by Mr.
Rosedale and risks again by lying about why she was in that building. Lily goes on another walk
with Selden, but this time at Bellomont, as a result of this walk Mr. Percy Gryce decided to leave
Bellomont without giving Lily a marriage proposal, which left her still in debt and financial ruin.
Lily will pay the ultimate price for throwing her lot in with Selden since her risks with him
always leave her in a worse off state than she was before she decided to interact with him
(Shinbrot 41). Another person that Lily takes a serious risk with is Gus Trenor; he gives Lily
financial advice and loans her some money and in return he wants sex from her (Wharton 116).
This is a scary scene for Lily because it is a near rape situation and also because it starts rumors
about Lily and Gus Trenor having relations which does not help her social standing, marriage
prospects, or financial situation. Another big risk that Lily takes is going to Monte Carlo with the
Dorsets, Lily accepts their invitation after the previously mentioned Gus rape scene happens, and
she just decided to run away from her

Martin Luther s Influence On Catholicism
For a long time Catholicism was the dominant religion. If you were not a catholic then you did not
go to church, or at least church with a lot of people. Then came a man named Martin Luther. Martin
threw a curveball in the Catholic Church s plan. He pointed out the indulgences being sold by the
Roman Catholic churchto fund new buildings and new things for the pope and bishops to have.
Lutheranism is a religion based off of Catholicism with changes done by Martin Luther, a German
Monk and Theologian, he made his points with the 95 theses, and it exposed all the flaws with the
catholic church. Martin Luther was born November 10, 1483 to Hans and Margethe Luther in
Eisleben, Germany. His Father Hans was a copper mine owner. At age 17, the... Show more content

The ELS was formed in 1918. They have about 21,000 members in the church today. They are a
very conservative lutheran church. They are with the WELS in fellowship, because of their
similar beliefs. The CLC also know as the Church of Lutheran Confession, was formed in 1963.
The Church was formed because of a break up of the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference
of North America, due to a disagreement about the church principles. The CLC believes that the
bible is the only thing you can look to for religion. The Lutheran Church as a whole has over 72
million members today. As far as demographics go 71% of that 72 million are white. 8 million of
the 72 are in America. In America the largest clusters of Lutherans are in the Midwest and in the
South. In the ELCA the North Carolina Synod is the 3rd largest Synod within the ELCA.
Catholicism differs from Lutheranism with two main flaws. The flaws that existed back in the
1500s still exist today. The first is how is one saved and be able to enter heaven? The Lutherans
believe that the scripture tells us our fate. A good quote from the bible that Lutherans use a lot is
Romans 3:28 which states we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the

Designing The Robotic Arm Is Controlled By A...
In this paper a project is proposed to separate the objects from a set according to their colors.
This can be useful for categorization of the objects which move on a conveyer belt. The proposed
method of categorization is based on color of the object. In this project the system categorization
of different colors. The detection of the particular color is done by a light intensity to frequency
converter method. The robotic arm is controlled by a microcontroller based system which controls
DC motor for picking up the specified color from a moving objects conveyer belt.
In this project we will be using combination of microcontroller, Sensors and mat lab for some
virtualization. When a different combination of objects moving on industrial conveyer belt it s
very difficult or labor consuming to separate the objects based on the color , As machinery is
capable to produce the different color objects at the same time or different machineries produce
the different color objects and dump on the same conveyer belt. At this point of time our project
provides value added service in picking up the objects based on their color for packing or
distinguishing.

Women Within The Grecian Culture
Ancient Greece as a place and period time in our extensive history was a place of patriarchal power,
controlled almost entirely by the masculine sphere and association with the Gods. It was a time in

the Grecian culture where very much the passive sex, confined to housework and almost never

best example we have for how Myth has shaped and developed the feminist movement. Sophocles
drama Antigone, written around 441 BCE, is one of his three Theban plays that chronicle the dark
fortunes of the house of Oedipus, king of Thebes. After Oedipus death, there is a struggle over the
kingship between his two sons Eteocles and Polyneices. The army of Polyneices marches on
Thebes and is defeated, but both brothers are killed in the battle. The new ruler, Creon, decrees that
whereas Eteocles will be buried with full honours for defending the city, the rebel Polyneices
must be denied holy rites and left to rot in the field and if anyone disobeys him they are to be
punished by death. The state and patriarchy take high place within the novel as it does in many
Grecian teaching places. The play was used to teach the subjects of the citadel about respect for the
law and respect for society. We must therefore ask questions concerning the place of a feminine
tragic hero, and the effect that it would have had.

Review Of Michael Ignatieff s A Sense Of Belonging
A Sense of Belonging Arises
Based on 2004 Question 3
Michael Ignatieff, a Practice of Human Rights Professor, observed a key characteristic in how
humans relate and bond with one another: intuition shared within groups that helps set rules and
regulations, ultimately setting them apart. His observation calls into question the connection
between these unspoken rules, and the sense of belonging felt by group members. With his
observations in mind, it is natural to assume that unspoken rules and belonging coincide because
they define a group by giving them an image and general understanding of each other.
Often it is found that having common interests affects the people within, as well as the image of, a
certain group. When people think back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consider sitting in your high school with multiple different groups of people around. You hear
numerous conversations coming from every direction and laughter filling the halls, but you are left
standing in the hallway alone, feeling outcast, because you have no connection with those people.
Having desolate feelings comes in response to this situation, and overall, it takes away from that
sense of belonging. The unspoken rules present in these groups are responsible for the loss of
belonging. People that do not fit the requirements within the rules often find themselves feeling as
though they are outcasts in society. Individually, they will perceive themselves to be outsiders
without a belonging in the social order because their traits do not match the desired ones in society.
Additionally, the people in each specific group will begin to exclude the said outcasts because they
do not belong in the clique. As a result, social events and conversations become more exclusive to
those who fit the unspoken rules. This unfortunately can lead to bullying, for the exclusive people
will make the outsiders feel unwelcomed and criticized. One who does not fit in with others will
find themselves feeling insecure about their life and role in the community. Therefore, the
unspoken rules of society affect each individual s sense of belonging in both a positive and negative

Increasing Frequency And Normality Of Piracy
Outcome
Introduction
This research project explores the increasing frequency and normality of piracy as a crime in
addition to its strong relationship with Australia. In particular, the purpose of this research project
is to explore How the rate of piracy in Australia can be reduced in addition to analysing the
fundamental factors behind the increase in the frequency of piracy, furthermore investigating
methods to reduce such criminal acts, including legal consequences.
Definition of Digital Piracy
Digital piracy or copyright infringement is essentially defined as the unauthorised sharing or use
of a product that has been copyrighted, according to the Australian Parliament House (2006).
However, the way in which the public infringe has changed over the decades. Initially, recording
music being played on the radio onto a cassette player was the inaugural generation of piracy
within our modern society. In the 1980s, recording Television (TV) onto Vertical Helical Scan
(VHS) recorders became prevalent (C Span (Created by Cable), 1986). Soon after, the copying
or ripping of Digital Versatile Discs (DVDs) and Compact Discs (CDs) soared (The Golden Age
of Piracy, 2014). However, none of these methods compare in financial losses to the present
generation of piracy the digital age (IP (Intellectual Property) Awareness Foundation, 2015). The
vast lawless regions of the internet provide the perfect haven for digital piracy. Whether content is

Persuasive Essay On How To Stop Nuclear Waste
How to stop Nuclear Waste Nuclear waste is one of the reasons why many people have cancer
and babies have health defects. Even though There isn t that much nuclear waste to cause any
harm and nuclear power plants are built away from highly populated areas, nuclear waste is a big
problem that will later on cause more problems because everyday items like cellphones, computers,

The government has dithered over this clear and present danger for decades, irresponsibly
kicking the can down the road into the indefinite future (Stop). Most nuclear power plants will
store their nuclear waste in pools and let is set and cool for several years. Space in these pools
are starting to become scarce so another solution is to store some of this waste into concrete and
steel cylinders. The big problem is that nuclear power plants are closing but what remains is their
waste that they leave behind for others to worry about. Some companies let their waste sit for
long periods of time until the waste is thought to be no longer hazardous. The government is now
acting on this matter by having nuclear power plants remove or eliminate the nuclear waste that is
left behind in the reactor sites. This will also reduce liability on taxpayers (Chapman). This
liability could reach up to $500 million per year after 2020 if the spent fuel remains where it is
(Chapman). Some nuclear power plants convert a wide variety of radioactive waste materials into
forms that are suitable for their subsequent management, including transportation, storage and final
disposal (Treatment). Some companies have found other solutions to disposing of their waste like
minimising the volume of the waste or reduce the potential hazard of the waste by conditioning it
into a stable solid form

Feminist Spirituality and Goddess Religion Essay
Feminist Spirituality and Goddess Religion
Thousands of years ago, the Goddess was viewed as an autonomous entity worthy of respect from
men and women alike. Because of societal changes caused by Eastern influence, a patriarchial
system conquered all aspects of life including religion. Furthermore, most feminists interested in
goddesses are women who strongly reject western patriarchal theology (Culpepper 51). Thus, there
was this very strong feminist idea of women being the prime in the early part of the 17th and the
18th century.
Today, the loss of a strong female presence in Judeo Christian beliefs has prompted believers to
look to other sources that celebrate the role of women. Men and women have increasingly

Some of these so called religions would be Christianity including the Roman Catholic Church,
Protestants, European Religions and also Judaism who thought of as god being male i.e. Jesus.
Goddess worship was gradually combined with worship of male Gods to produce a variety of
Pagan religions, thus losing some of its singular focus on the female as a deity. Goddess Worship
during the Christian era was molded by more dominant outside forces. As Judaism, Christianity
eventually Islam evolved, the Pagan religions were suppressed and the female principle was
gradually driven out of religion. Consequently women were reduced to a level inferior to men. The
God, King, Priest Father replaced the Goddess, Queen, Priestess Mother (Miles 24). A woman s
testimony was not considered significant in courts, women were not allowed to speak in churches,
and positions of authority in the church were (almost without exception) limited to men. A
feminine presence was added to Christianity when the Virgin Mary was named Theotokos (Mother
of God). However, her role was heavily restricted and included none of the fertility components
present in Pagan religions.
A low point in the life of women was reached during the Renaissance, when hundreds of thousands
of suspected female witches were exterminated being burned and hanged. At the turn of the century,
scholars began writing about a Mother Goddess . By the 1950s, Gerald Gardner

Diesel Engine Research Paper
The diesel (internal combustion) engine has been a major source of power for transportation
vehicles and industrial uses. The Australian railways have utilised diesel engines for regional and
freight purposes since the early 1950 s. Despite the extensive history of the diesel engine, the
efficiency of the modern internal combustion process ranges between 35% 42%.[1] The losses in
energyarise from heat losses and mechanical losses as illustrated in Fig 1.
Figure 1. Schematic of conventional vehicle system model. Only a small percentage of energy is
converted into useful work to power the wheels and other accessory loads.[2]
Figure 1 indicates that a significant amount of energy is lost from the exhaust and coolant systems.
Exhaust temperatures generally range between 400 900В°C depending on the application. This
presents a significant opportunity to recover the heat losses from the exhaust to reduce the fuel
consumption. In addition to the advantage gained from the improved fuel consumption, there are
other benefits such as reducing exhaust emissions and increased engine power.
To effectively capture the energy lost from a diesel engineexhaust pressures, the turbocharger was
implemented to boost the power of engine and thereby increasing the fuel efficiency. The majority
of the heat energy from the exhaust and coolant has yet to be captured and utilised. There has been
many challenges to recovering the heat as the low grade heat from the diesel engine cannot be

Humanization And Human Colonization Of The Polar Regions
Human colonization of the polar regions has long been a goal for people and governments alike.
The first people to settle the Arctic were Siberian, Inuit, and Sami peoples in Russia, North
America, and Northern Europe respectively. Soon followed Scandinavian settlement in Europe
as well as settlement by pioneers in Canada and Alaska. This wave of colonization was
characterized by a search for fur in addition to a search for minerals and the possibility of a
Northwest passage that would have allowed for mass shipment of goods from the Atlantic to the
Pacific. Alas, no passage was found, and any mineral exploitation was minimal, mainly gold and
some offshore oil drilling far later ( Arctic People ). Today the Arctic is generally empty, but
there is a renewed interest in a modern wave of colonization, one that promises to eclipse past
waves, to bring many people to the far north, and a huge influx of people like that are going to
need to be fed. Hydroponics is the most viable way to feed this wave of Arctic settlement. Interest
is increasing for human settlement in the polar regions of both the Arctic and Antarctic. The
question is why this interest is growing? Why would a lot of people want to move to a cold,
desolate tundra? The answer is, of course, money. The Arctic has, in the next few decades, vast
economic potential, this potential is, as it was centuries ago, minerals and a northwest passage.

Personal Narrative On Marking Time

two stories seemed to add up. Needless to say, walking into that dining hall I expected to see, or at

going on, I had no idea when we would finish or how much time we had left. Until I heard chow

had half of the day left. For lunch the dining hall served hot wings with white rice along with
your choice of sides at the salad bar. The thing that made lunch extra special was the fact that we
could have cookies. It may not seem like much now, but at that time it was the only real sweets
most of us had in weeks. Although I tried not to show it, inside I was grinning from ear to ear.
Then finally, there was dinner. Dinner meant that the day was finished. There was no more
training or exercising and I would be able to go to bed soon. For dinner, pizza. That alone was the
perfect satisfaction for me after an extremely long day and it was enough to hold me over until

How Is Daisy Portrayed In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby, and it gives us an insight into the gender roles of past WW1 America.
Throughout the novel, women are portrayed in a very negative light. The author s presentation of
women is unflattering and unsympathetic. The women are not described with depth. When given
their description, Fitzgerald appeals to their voice, she had a voice full of money , their looks her
face was lovely with bright things in it, bright eyes, and a bright passionate mouth , and the way in
which they behave, They re such beautiful shirts she sobbed , rather than their feelings or emotions,

Daisy misleads Gatsby in thinking she is going to escape with him and leave everything behind
even though she has no real intention of doing so. Her middle name Fay means fairy which
epitomizes her carefree, ethereal manner, as well as envisaging a flitting personality, which ties
into her lack of loyalty. Ann Massa cites, Daisy s lack of depth and passion leads her to flinch
from the real emotion and profound inner vitality which Gatsby s life style struggles to express.
She does not deal with the aftermath of her affair with Gatsby; she did not attend his funeral,
abandoning him in his death, and left Nick to clean up the mess she had made. She also says to
Gatsby, I d like to get you in one of those pink clouds and put you in it and push you around. This
suggests that she wants to escape with Gatsby, without confronting Tom with their affair. Daisy s
presented with the inability to take responsibilities for her actions, and this leads to the mistrust
Fitzgerald reflects throughout the novel. Like Jordan, Daisy is a careless character, as the
accident with Myrtle shows. She is careless because she had been born into wealth and she had an
endless resource of men who continually spoil her. However in spite of all her faults, Fitzgerald
presents her with ingenuity as she is clearly cynical about the position she is in, and this is
epitomized when she comments the best thing a girl

psychological trauma of war portrayed in Mental Cases, is conveyed through the chilling, almost

The soldier contemplates why he enlisted in the first place. Was it to please the giddy jilts[?]
Was it because someone had said he d look a god in kilts[?] Whatever the soldiers motivations
was, he volunteered as they wrote his lie: aged nineteen years. The soldier was not even of the
proper age to enlist in the army. No competent human being would purposely throw away their
knees or even pour their own blood down shell holes. Yet the final irony of the poem is that when
the soldier volunteered he purposely gave up all these things. The price of admission into the war
was his legs and the rest of his young

Customer Service Experience
My customer service and negotiation skills were well demonstrated during my job at UNDP. I
collaborated and worked with the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) as a member of the
UN Registration and Verification Team, and interviewed more than 4000 People s Liberation Army
(PLA) of the Communist Party of Nepal Maoist (CPN/M), and contributed to the development of a
National Reintegration Policy for former PLA. I provided technical advice to relevant stakeholders,
and when required any peacekeeping or monitor team, on effective tools for Recovery and DDR
(Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration) management. I advised on lessons learned and

Effects Of Environment On The Environment
In many distinctive instants, change does not occur until something drastic happens; only then do
people begin to come to awareness. According to Physicians for Social Responsibilities ,
environmental factors are estimated to be responsible for approximately 80% of cancer diagnosis
and deaths in the U.S. alone. Children, animals, and life everywhere are suffering due to
consequences of environmental hazards. The detrimental consequences of unprotected
environments are much greater than many perceive; therefore, by limiting harmful methods of
environmental destruction and raising awareness these consequences may be decreased. The
amount of contamination in the Earth s water and atmosphere has increased tremendously over the
years. Factors such as fossil fuel combustion, water pollution, deforestation, toxic chemicals, and a
multitude of others all contribute greatly to the environmental harm that is being faced today.
Investigation has brought out evidence that pernicious industrial chemicals seem to be more
widespread throughout the environmentthan anticipated. The abundance of pollutants exposed to
the air and water we rely on may cause a variety of health defects and problematic issues to human,
animal, and plant life everywhere. Urban development, farming, deforestation, and the building of
dams have crippling effects on both the environments and the species that thrive in those locations.
Approximately half of the world s forests have been cut down and a vast number

Rocket Raccoon
The film Guardians of the Galaxy directed by James Gunn, was brought to life from Marvel
studios. They have introduced us to the beloved character Rocket Raccoon. He is an outlaw
with his partner, Groot, and then turned hero after saving the galaxy with the other characters.
The skilled marksmen, masterful tactician, and raccoon has now been transformed into a
costume. Now kids and adults alike will be able to embody their love for the Marvel movie. The
Rocket costume masks are sold by Rubies online and in the store. It can fit well with a
purchased or made from scratch costume for Halloween or cosplay. The Rocket Raccoon masks
are officially licensed by the Marvel company as a guardians of the Galaxy product. Because of
this, the costumes are made of the highest quality materials. The materials must meet the
standards of the studio in order to be endorsed; this ensures good quality. The Rocket face is
made out of latex in order to appear more realistic. The latex causes it to be flimsier and fit the
face better. Latex is also a very lightweight material in order to prevent the raccoon face from
being heavy on the head. The latex allows for the Rocket facial structure and design to be sculpted
on it. This way, the face can be molded to mimic the sculpture of the animals face from the
guardian s movie.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Critical Theories Of Criminology
Introduction
In this paper, I will discuss conflict criminology, radical criminology, peacemaking criminology,
and postmodern criminology providing a comparison as well as a contrast to each.
Discussion
There are several theories developing critical theories of criminology, the first discussed in this
paper will be conflict theory (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The conflict theory is the inequality of
competing groups, moreover, the different social statuses of individuals. This theory compares the
differences in white collar crime to the crime of the blue collar class. White collar crime is mostly
money related crimes, including embezzlement, committed by the economically elite, conversely,
blue collar crime is considered more violent as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of this societal hierarchy places a few individuals in the higher ranks of society with
the majority within the lower ranks, the proverbial winners as compared to the losers. This theory
bases crime upon the various class struggles to obtain wealth within an unequal economic
environment. The lower class struggles to obtain the same level of material wealth held by those
of the higher classes creating an extremely competitive environment leading to individuals taking
advantage of the weaker members of society to further their own level of wealth. The radical
theory defines crime as the deprivation of basic human rights, as individuals compete for a portion
of societal wealth in an unequally distributed market they become overly competitive with one
another leading to what is described as senseless violence.
The third theory discussed in this paper is the peacemaking criminology, this theory is a non
violent approach to change society through the transformations beginning at the individual level
(Bohm Vogel, 2011). The theorist of peacemaking view suffering as the cause of crime, expressing
the need for a change within society to become for aware of the needs of those less fortunate,
moreover, working together to resolve those issues. This theory views the acts of punishing
individuals for crimes committed as the source for continued criminal acts. A shift from

How Did Oprah Winfrey Inspire Me
Me and you right Know have someone who inspires us, so much that we want to Exceed his or
her achievements. There are many Different types of role models, they can be singers, Public
speakers, Friends Or family. But above them, all is Opera Winfrey.
Oprah Winfrey, Is a Big part of my life, from her speeches, shows, Passions and the Rough
Childhood she had once Lived. When Most People Think of Oprah Winfrey They think of her
fame or her money. But I have a whole different view of her yes opera has money But think of how
she earned that money.
Oprah always keeps a Positive Mindset Despite her hard childhood experiences. When Opera was
nine years old She was abused and rapped which made opera pregnant at such a young age. But
Oprah Fought through it and forgave, and didn t hold that against herself. When opera was young
she even got abused by her mother and got a lack of attention from her. But what inspires me is that
even though her difficult life Oprah Stuck up for her education and made it a priority, And not a
minority. Oprah has many life incidents that inspire me greatly and Through her life, she will keep

The Next Factor Of Public Opinion
The next factor involved was public opinion. Many were for campus carry because they felt as if
they had a fundamental right to be able to carry ( Strickland, 2016). Several students and faculty
helped shape public opinion by describing how it would make their college experience a safe and
better one ( Fernandez, 2015). Many Texas residents believed that if they were allowed to carry
they could then prevent mass shooting ( Fernandez, 2015). This was a main argument of public
opinion. Though many were against campus carry the ones for it worked together to help change
the minds of people who did not believe that guns should be on campus. They did this by
describing that the number of students who would actually carry on campus would be small and it
would be older community college students ( Fernandez, 2015). Public opinion also helped the bill
passbecause Texas is a conservative state with 850,000 license holders ( Fernandez, 2015). They
wanted to make the public happy by passing the bill because the number of people for it
outweighed the ones against it. The opinion of people such as the universitys chief of police spoke
out about not being worried because it never had been an issue ( Fernandez, 2015). Students
believed they had a right to self preservation and should be allowed to carry ( Strickland, 2016).
In the end Governor Greg aAbbott had listened to people wanting to be allowed to carry on
campus and decided he would make the public happy

Analysis of Primary Colors
Politics is a bloodsport, one big game of corruption, muckraking, prostitution, and defilement, which
is played by the politicians, the media, and the seemingly innocent public that tends to forget that
politicians are humans also, no better than the masses except for one thing, the ability to play the
game. Primary Colors by Anonymous portrays this fraudulent game perfectly, exhibiting all of the
dark aspects of a political campaign: from the vicious media in their pursuit of scandals, to the
traitorousness of opposing candidates to destroy each other, all the way to the secretive sexual
interactions taking place during the campaigning process. Yet in this vice corrupted novel,
Anonymous also manages to let the human side of the tainted... Show more content on

For example, he remembers the promise that he made to Fat Willie about having him open a
branch of his restaurant up in the capitol (214). But on the overall it is Stanton s genius that
allows the people to relate to him, he lets them know that he associates with the problems they
have and that he really cares about those problems (44), that is a noteworthy feature of his. With
Freddy Picker, it is his honesty to the voters to the American public, admitting the mistakes he had
made in the past and confessing that he is not qualified to even pretend to run for the presidency,
(501) what highlights his nobleness and shows how dedicated he is to the masses. The truism of
the unscrupulous game of politics is that one has to love the game dearly in order to succeed in it
and be a good, noble politician. Picker does love the game, he does it for the pleasure of the
challenge (486), but he plays for himself, and not for the public, which is a dangerous thing
(486). His addiction to the political game as well as drugs made him quit the first time in 1978,
and it is his addiction and not his love for the game that makes him crumble under the pressure of
the present campaign. Picker avoids the game while campaigning against Stanton, and everyone on
the Stanton campaign notices it, especially Jack himself: He isn t playing the game at all, not in
any wayВ…He s not going to be able to

  • 2. Characterization of Rachel Through the Use of Literary... Characterization of Rachel Through the Use of Literary Techniques in Cisneros Eleven Sandra Cisneros writes a memoir through the eyes of an eleven year old. Turning eleven happens to be a tragic day for the main character, Rachel. Through various literary techniques such as hyperbole, simile, and syntax, Rachel is characterized. Rachel is a fresh turning eleven year old who finds herself in an awful situation on her birthday. Forced to wear a raggedy old sweater that doesn t belong to her, she makes it defiantly clear her feelings towards the clothing item, and we see this through use of hyperboles. Rachel describes the sweater as ugly and too stretched out like you could use it for a jump rope. This extreme exaggeration demonstrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This inner defiance gives evidence to Rachel s determination and individuality. The sweater now represents a sort of barrier and if she submits herself to it, she fears the world of ages and maturity. The inner battle continues through use of similes and syntax patterns. Cisneros brilliantly weaves a series of vivid metaphors that of an eleven year old to further portray Rachel s character. Today I wish I didn t have only eleven years rattling inside me like pennies in a tin band aid box. This simile characterizes Rachel as not only a child but also portrays her desire to be older. The image evokes a childish habit of collecting pennies in a tin box, a juvenile form of a most precious piggy bank. But in addition to labeling Rachel s age, it also hints at her feelings of wanting out. Rachel feels trapped by her ripe young age of eleven because she feels as if she doesn t have the years behind her to justify her non acceptance of the sweater. Afraid to say no and stand up for herself, Rachel unwillingly has to take the sweater, which smells like cottage cheese and hangs over the edge of her desk like a waterfall. Again, we see glances into Rachel s mind and how she envisions the dreadful sweater. The images allow us to see into an eleven year old s thoughts and see how the situation looks from a child s eyes. Telling it like it is, as Rachel seems to do quite often, she describes the smell as cottage cheese, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Is America A Republic Essay The United State of America from the very beginning is a republic and still remains a republic. It has never been a democracy even though some people argue that it is a democracy. The founding fathers gave the country a republic and this was a result of their beliefs that democracy is evil and dangerous. According to Ron Paul, the republicsystem was instituted to protect individual and property rights from tyranny. He further claims that the individual rights of minorities are endangered by majority rule or democracy. ( see Williams .P. Meyers; America: Republic or Democracy) Americans are generally made to believe that, they the people hold the utmost power to their nation. However , it would be safe to a reasonable extent that America is nowhere near being a democratic nation. Note that the only reason why America is said to be a democracy is simply because it allows its citizens the right to elect those who will represent them both at the state and district level. Nowadays , many people now agree that America has never been or nor had the intention to be purely a democratic nation. Looking from various views of scholars, some have classified America as a federal republic or as a constitutional republic. In facts this is true. A true representation of the framers of the ... • 4. The Struggle In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst James Hurst, the author of The Scarlet Ibis, enhanced the quality of his already great story by adding many different literary devices. In The Scarlet Ibis the main character, Doodle, was expected to live a much shortened live due to his premature birth. He defies expectations and lives through his life expectancy, although he was pronounced paralyzed. His brother had a hard time dealing with a paralyzed brother. Doodle s brother tries his best to help him do everyday things, such as walk and run. Nobody seemed to fully understand Doodle until the scarlet ibisshowed up in the family s backyard. Symbolism is the use of an object, person, situation, or word to represent something else, according to a video on Study Academy s website. An example of symbolism in The Scarlet Ibisreads Even death did not mar its grace, for it lay on the earth like a broken vase of red flowers, and we stood around it, awed by its exotic beauty (Hurst 473). Doodle, much like the scarlet ibis, left the family in awe. After Doodle s many accomplishments, their family could not believe what they had just seen. The author tied these characters together to symbolize the strive for success Doodle wished to achieve. The scarlet ibis had died almost immediately died after the family had seen it. James Hurst symbolized the two characters by showing their similarities. Even though Doodle had lived to be at least 6, that is not a long, fully lived life. As soon as Doodle started to overcome adversity, he died. Both of their deaths were after a challenge was put upon them. The bird had fluttered to the ground after leaping off the branch and never catching flight; Doodle was attempting to keep up with his brother when he fell. Both were found under a tree, dead, without a chance of help. Symbolism, in this story, is effective and improves the overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Significant Role of the Hippocampus Essay Significant Role of Hippocampus Hippocampus is a small, curved region, which exists in both hemispheres of the brain and plays a vital role in emotions, learning and acquisition of new information. It also contributes majorly to long term memory, which is permanent information stored in the brain. Although long term memory is the last information that can be forgotten, its impairment has become very common nowadays. The dysfunction is exemplified by many neurological disorders such as amnesia. There are two types of amnesia, anterograde and retrograde. Anterograde amnesia is inability in forming new information, while retrograde refers to the loss of the past memory. This implies that bilateral and unilateral hippocampus does not contribute majorly to familiarity and recollection of unknown human s faces. Since hippocampus plays an important function in the brain, it has become a great topic for many conducted research not only on human but also animals, specifically primates and rodents. In primate model of amnesia, the experiment is performed through three main tasks delayed nonmatch to sample, object discrimination paradigm and motor skill learning across multiple trials (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). In delayed non matching test, both amnesic and intact monkey show nearly same performance rate in remembering objects across delayed in short period of time (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). In contrast, amnesic monkeys show a great impairment for longer delayed conditions, hours, in picking the right non matched samples (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). Likewise, in object discrimination task, amnesic monkeys are unable to recognize objects, as compared to control monkeys (Eichenbaum et al, 1992).These tests suggest the importance of hippocampus in acquisition of new information and recollection old events from episodic memory. Additionally, hippocampus also contributes largely to relational representation, as a characteristic of declarative memory (Eichenbaum et al, 1992). At certain parts of the Earth s surface, the climate can be observed much differently than other locations. As the years go by the average temperature of the Earth increases by little intervals. There are several different reasons why people believe the climate is changing every year. However, the increase of worldwide population and production of heat to the atmosphereis due to the increase of human activities that take place on a daily basis. • 9. Harry S Truman Dbq Harry S. Truman On 8th of January 1947, at Harry S. Truman s first economic report as president to the congress of the United Sates, he said, America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand , but little did Truman know that these beliefs of his would become misunderstood and critiqued by the masses in coming times. When Harry S. Truman left the presidency in January 1953, he was one of the most unpopular politicians in the United States. However, this is unjustified as he was a real democrat for the people and was an honest president. Furthermore, he did not make many poor discussions nor was he inadequate leader, yet he got undeserved and bias criticism by the people of the United States. Truman continually faced tough challenges and had to pick up from where Franklin D. Roosevelt s unanticipated death left the nation in a mess. He was the Commander in Chief of the United States military during the final months of World War II. Under his command, the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, effectively ending the war. For many Americans, Truman s legacy as the nation s leader centres on these controversial decisions. Various literature books contain half truths or blatant false stories that are meant to serve the interest of some nations, communities, emperors, kingdoms, and religious beliefs. The misinformed approach in literature books seeks to persuade, influence, or manipulate readers using information that is specifically defined and disseminated for this purpose. As a medium of communication, leaders have used literature works over the years to brainwash, deceive, persuade, and enhance certain euphoria on people. Scully and Fletcher (1987) reveal various episodes of death that are depicted in a simple manner that appeals to all readers. Since people are ignorant of complex messages and/or will only pay simple attention to written information, Virgilfully exploits this aspect while talking about death. For instance, he says, At Dido s head she came to rest...And out into the winds her life withdrew (Virgil, 2008, p. 971). Death is feared by all people. In fact, the mention of death causes alarm and attention. Virgil exploits the simplest way of awakening and pulling the attention and concentration of readers by depicting death in a simple way. For example, leaders that are involved in various wars before their deaths have a secluded magnificent place in the underworld as seen in Aeneas words, there are souls that go from here...Aloft to upper heaven (Virgil, 2008, p. 965). This move enhances the war propaganda that leaders can kill their opponents whilst being honored by gods. Death is painted in a way that warrants no attention of the reader. According to Heiny (2013), Virgil also emphasizes reincarnation that people will live again after death. This propaganda on death as not being eternal further simplifies the idea of death. The propaganda is meant to prepare Romans to volunteer in war to channel their energies and life to defending the opponents of their kingdom as seen in Jupiter s words, What privilege for these, your ships...Shall hulls that mortal hands have made enjoy a right...That only immortals have (Virgil, 2008, pp. 132 135). People are also persuaded to be good to their families, neighbors, and other citizens in order to have a good place in the underworld and/or during rebirth. Jupiter says, Every man s last day is fixed. Lifetimes are brief, and not to be regained (Virgil, 2008, p. 650). Reflection In My Life Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of activities coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around college, careers, and ourselves as people. These activities taught us life skills that we can apply in our life. For example, some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART goals, long term goals, skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to our potential career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how to apply those life skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn more about ourselves as people. Throughout my life I have always felt like I knew myself, but until recently I have never, truly known myself. These traits are one of my utmost important values to me in the sense that they are what I do my best to live by them. My five main values are creativity, compassion, empathy, love, and wisdom. I value creativity since through that I am able to express myself. Compassion is important to me being that I cannot be a bystander and forsake the people suffering or the guilt would eat me alive, knowing I could have done something to help. • 13. Reflection On Hiroshima In John Hersey s Hiroshima, he writes about the lives of six people before, during, and after the horrific atomic bombing. Heresy explains the horrors and the aftermath of the atomic bombs that were dropped in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. John writes the story of six survivors to show their experience during the catastrophe and how they had moved on with their lives. Throughout the story, John expresses his disapproval to the idea of dropping the atomic bombs onto the two Japanese cities through the imagery of bombs aftermath, the characters he chose to write about, and the terrifying descriptions of the noiseless flash. After reading this story, and understanding the horrific things the bomb caused, I still agree with the fact that we dropped it because I believe the atomic bombs were effective in ending World War II and preventing the Japanese from attacking more American forces but the cost and distraction caused by the bomb was too high to be considered fair. Perhaps we would have been able to end the war slowly without the use of mass fire power of the atomic bombs and not endanger the lives of the people John Hersey wrote about. In the first chapter of the book, Heresey writes about what the six survivors were doing before the bomb hit. He would go back and forth between characters, till the moment the bomb hit on their side of the story. The most crucial detail he wrote about at the end of their stories was the bright, noiseless flash. For example, one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, at one point in time women were only seen as the damsel in distress even in detective stories. Whereas now in the remake of Sherlock Holmes the character played by Rachel McAdams has a huge role in helping solve cases. Another difference, although this depends on the writer, is at what point the actual murder takes place whether it is at the beginning of the story or the end. Edgar Allen Poe may have started off the detective story frenzy with his character Dupin but since then stories, roles of women and men, and how the stories are organized has changed, possibly for the better. He quickly learns the different habits of all the people that come and go from the hotel and what their reactions are to certain scenarios or situations. This story is actually different because the murder does not happen until the end of the story. Another difference is that the murder happened a little more close to home seeing as how it was the detectives own brother who was killed. It was also the detectives own fault because if he had not been protecting the girl that his brother was going after then his brother would not have died. All of these detective stories were very similar. They all had a male role that was very smart and analytical and for the most part the storylines were all the same. One added going undercover to the mix and another completely flip flopped the murder so that it happened at the end of the book instead of the beginning. In these stories the men all had to prove themselves and show that they could do the job they were assigned whether it was to another character in the book or instead to the reader. Now these are the stories that have shaped the detective stories that we read about and watch on TV even today. Provide examples to support your position. (1 page) I firmly believe that there is no reason why a successful brand can t live forever. I recently read an article about Channel No. 5, a brand of cologne and perfume that is passed from generation to generation. The tagline of the article reads: Sometimes a perfume can be more than a fragrance. It can be a declaration of independence, a rite of passage, even a potent link between the generations (Hingston, 2012). Some products or services that people use become a tradition something that they always buy when celebrating or the one person they rely on to make things right. There is the tailor who fits all the suits of the men in the family young and old who is so special to the family (almost, it seems, like a family member) that they wouldn t consider taking their alterations or new attire to anyone else. Interestingly, Channel No. 5 is that kind of legendary product. Hingston wrote that Channel No. 5 was what I longed to smell like, what I longed to be like, high end, exotic. The area of the NSAS is affected by several structural trends in different directions; the most prominent directions are NE SW, N S, E W, and NW SE. The dominant NE SW trend is associated with the Pelusium and Qattara mega shears. The sedimentary cover shows a northward increase from less than 0.5 km in northern Sudan and southern Egypt to more than 6 km at the Mediterranean coast. The sediments thickness shows a shallowing of the basement rocks along the east west trending Uweinat Aswan basement uplift which may impede the south to north groundwater flow and replenishment from the recharge areas in the south. The NE SW trending Pelusium mega shear cuts the Precambrian rocks and continues upward in the sedimentary cover; it formed deep structural controlled basins along its zone, which were filled by high thick sediments of relatively high hydraulic conductivities extending from the Kufra Basin in Libya and Chad to the northern part of Dakhla Basin in Egypt. Competition is no longer simply down to product and instead organisations have to take other things into consideration, particularly their strategy for success. Companies have to look for a way to diversify themselves from their competitors in the market and the main way of doing this is to focus on their mind set. This essay will look to evaluate the extent to which global competitiveness is becoming more about mind set versus mind set or whether companies still depend on product versus product as their foundation of success (Hamel and Prahalad, 1993, p77). Taking into consideration theories of strategic intent,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the operations department within an organisation need to be ensuring that production levels are high, whilst the marketing department need to be advertising the products to the extent that makes production meet sales. Without the right mind set in departments and the attitudes of organisational members being consistent throughout an organisation, the likelihood of success is minimal. People will be working towards different things and resources will be divided amongst different projects and therefore never actually reaching their full potential (Mintzberg et al, 1987; Hamel and Prahalad, 1993). Strategic intent, a notion pioneered by Hamel and Prahalad (1990) can be considered to be at the heart of a company with a strong, prosperous mind set. This notion outlines the organisations ambition that creates the mind set within and pushes all components of the organisation to achieve the goals outlined by management. An organisations strategic intent can be best understood as big, hairy, audacious goals (Collins and Porras, 2000, cited in McGee et al, 2010, p30) that define their long term vision and the small steps that need to be taken in order to achieve this, emphasised by the analogy; a marathon run in 400 meter sprints (Hamel and Prahalad, 1990, p43). Gambling In Edith Wharton s The House Of Mirth Other characters in The House of Mirth are not affected by gambling and risk taking as severely as Lily is because they have the financial means and power to gamble or recover from their mistakes. In the nineteenth century and more specifically the Gilded Age of New York City, marriage and money were what measured power, so since Lily had neither of those, her position in that society was very fragile. In Victoria Shinbrot s article Risk and Subversion in Edith Wharton s The House of Mirth , she ponders the question of Lily s peers being ever [so] conscious of the looming perception of her public decline and moral failure (42). Lily s first decision in the book was to go on walk alone and away from Grand Central Station with Selden, she gets caught coming from Selden s apartment by Mr. Rosedale and risks again by lying about why she was in that building. Lily goes on another walk with Selden, but this time at Bellomont, as a result of this walk Mr. Percy Gryce decided to leave Bellomont without giving Lily a marriage proposal, which left her still in debt and financial ruin. Lily will pay the ultimate price for throwing her lot in with Selden since her risks with him always leave her in a worse off state than she was before she decided to interact with him (Shinbrot 41). Another person that Lily takes a serious risk with is Gus Trenor; he gives Lily financial advice and loans her some money and in return he wants sex from her (Wharton 116). This is a scary scene for Lily because it is a near rape situation and also because it starts rumors about Lily and Gus Trenor having relations which does not help her social standing, marriage prospects, or financial situation. This can be useful for categorization of the objects which move on a conveyer belt. The proposed method of categorization is based on color of the object. In this project the system categorization of different colors. The detection of the particular color is done by a light intensity to frequency converter method. The robotic arm is controlled by a microcontroller based system which controls DC motor for picking up the specified color from a moving objects conveyer belt. In this project we will be using combination of microcontroller, Sensors and mat lab for some virtualization. When a different combination of objects moving on industrial conveyer belt it s very difficult or labor consuming to separate the objects based on the color , As machinery is capable to produce the different color objects at the same time or different machineries produce the different color objects and dump on the same conveyer belt. Sophocles drama Antigone, written around 441 BCE, is one of his three Theban plays that chronicle the dark fortunes of the house of Oedipus, king of Thebes. After Oedipus death, there is a struggle over the kingship between his two sons Eteocles and Polyneices. The army of Polyneices marches on Thebes and is defeated, but both brothers are killed in the battle. The new ruler, Creon, decrees that whereas Eteocles will be buried with full honours for defending the city, the rebel Polyneices must be denied holy rites and left to rot in the field and if anyone disobeys him they are to be punished by death. The state and patriarchy take high place within the novel as it does in many Grecian teaching places. Review Of Michael Ignatieff s A Sense Of Belonging A Sense of Belonging Arises Based on 2004 Question 3 Michael Ignatieff, a Practice of Human Rights Professor, observed a key characteristic in how humans relate and bond with one another: intuition shared within groups that helps set rules and regulations, ultimately setting them apart. His observation calls into question the connection between these unspoken rules, and the sense of belonging felt by group members. With his observations in mind, it is natural to assume that unspoken rules and belonging coincide because they define a group by giving them an image and general understanding of each other. Often it is found that having common interests affects the people within, as well as the image of, a certain group. When people think back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consider sitting in your high school with multiple different groups of people around. You hear numerous conversations coming from every direction and laughter filling the halls, but you are left standing in the hallway alone, feeling outcast, because you have no connection with those people. Having desolate feelings comes in response to this situation, and overall, it takes away from that sense of belonging. The unspoken rules present in these groups are responsible for the loss of belonging. People that do not fit the requirements within the rules often find themselves feeling as though they are outcasts in society. Individually, they will perceive themselves to be outsiders without a belonging in the social order because their traits do not match the desired ones in society. Additionally, the people in each specific group will begin to exclude the said outcasts because they do not belong in the clique. As a result, social events and conversations become more exclusive to those who fit the unspoken rules. This unfortunately can lead to bullying, for the exclusive people will make the outsiders feel unwelcomed and criticized. In particular, the purpose of this research project is to explore How the rate of piracy in Australia can be reduced in addition to analysing the fundamental factors behind the increase in the frequency of piracy, furthermore investigating methods to reduce such criminal acts, including legal consequences. Definition of Digital Piracy Digital piracy or copyright infringement is essentially defined as the unauthorised sharing or use of a product that has been copyrighted, according to the Australian Parliament House (2006). However, the way in which the public infringe has changed over the decades. Initially, recording music being played on the radio onto a cassette player was the inaugural generation of piracy within our modern society. In the 1980s, recording Television (TV) onto Vertical Helical Scan (VHS) recorders became prevalent (C Span (Created by Cable), 1986). Soon after, the copying or ripping of Digital Versatile Discs (DVDs) and Compact Discs (CDs) soared (The Golden Age of Piracy, 2014). However, none of these methods compare in financial losses to the present generation of piracy the digital age (IP (Intellectual Property) Awareness Foundation, 2015). Even though There isn t that much nuclear waste to cause any harm and nuclear power plants are built away from highly populated areas, nuclear waste is a big problem that will later on cause more problems because everyday items like cellphones, computers, or computers can cause humans to be exposed to radiation and nuclear power plants and nuclear tests cause 4% of the exposure of radiation that humans experience. The government has dithered over this clear and present danger for decades, irresponsibly kicking the can down the road into the indefinite future (Stop). Most nuclear power plants will store their nuclear waste in pools and let is set and cool for several years. Space in these pools are starting to become scarce so another solution is to store some of this waste into concrete and steel cylinders. The big problem is that nuclear power plants are closing but what remains is their waste that they leave behind for others to worry about. Some companies let their waste sit for long periods of time until the waste is thought to be no longer hazardous. The government is now acting on this matter by having nuclear power plants remove or eliminate the nuclear waste that is left behind in the reactor sites. This will also reduce liability on taxpayers (Chapman). This liability could reach up to $500 million per year after 2020 if the spent fuel remains where it is (Chapman). Some nuclear power plants convert a wide variety of radioactive waste materials into forms that are suitable for their subsequent management, including transportation, storage and final disposal (Treatment). Some companies have found other solutions to disposing of their waste like minimising the volume of the waste or reduce the potential hazard of the waste by conditioning it into a stable solid form ... Feminist Spirituality and Goddess Religion Essay Feminist Spirituality and Goddess Religion Thousands of years ago, the Goddess was viewed as an autonomous entity worthy of respect from men and women alike. Because of societal changes caused by Eastern influence, a patriarchial system conquered all aspects of life including religion. Furthermore, most feminists interested in goddesses are women who strongly reject western patriarchal theology (Culpepper 51). Thus, there was this very strong feminist idea of women being the prime in the early part of the 17th and the 18th century. Goddess worship was gradually combined with worship of male Gods to produce a variety of Pagan religions, thus losing some of its singular focus on the female as a deity. Goddess Worship during the Christian era was molded by more dominant outside forces. As Judaism, Christianity eventually Islam evolved, the Pagan religions were suppressed and the female principle was gradually driven out of religion. Consequently women were reduced to a level inferior to men. The God, King, Priest Father replaced the Goddess, Queen, Priestess Mother (Miles 24). A woman s testimony was not considered significant in courts, women were not allowed to speak in churches, and positions of authority in the church were (almost without exception) limited to men. A feminine presence was added to Christianity when the Virgin Mary was named Theotokos (Mother of God). However, her role was heavily restricted and included none of the fertility components present in Pagan religions. A low point in the life of women was reached during the Renaissance, when hundreds of thousands of suspected female witches were exterminated being burned and hanged. The Australian railways have utilised diesel engines for regional and freight purposes since the early 1950 s. Despite the extensive history of the diesel engine, the efficiency of the modern internal combustion process ranges between 35% 42%.[1] The losses in energyarise from heat losses and mechanical losses as illustrated in Fig 1. Figure 1. Schematic of conventional vehicle system model. Only a small percentage of energy is converted into useful work to power the wheels and other accessory loads.[2] Figure 1 indicates that a significant amount of energy is lost from the exhaust and coolant systems. Exhaust temperatures generally range between 400 900В°C depending on the application. This presents a significant opportunity to recover the heat losses from the exhaust to reduce the fuel consumption. In addition to the advantage gained from the improved fuel consumption, there are other benefits such as reducing exhaust emissions and increased engine power. To effectively capture the energy lost from a diesel engineexhaust pressures, the turbocharger was implemented to boost the power of engine and thereby increasing the fuel efficiency. • 32. Humanization And Human Colonization Of The Polar Regions Human colonization of the polar regions has long been a goal for people and governments alike. The first people to settle the Arctic were Siberian, Inuit, and Sami peoples in Russia, North America, and Northern Europe respectively. Soon followed Scandinavian settlement in Europe as well as settlement by pioneers in Canada and Alaska. This wave of colonization was characterized by a search for fur in addition to a search for minerals and the possibility of a Northwest passage that would have allowed for mass shipment of goods from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Alas, no passage was found, and any mineral exploitation was minimal, mainly gold and some offshore oil drilling far later ( Arctic People ). Today the Arctic is generally empty, but there is a renewed interest in a modern wave of colonization, one that promises to eclipse past waves, to bring many people to the far north, and a huge influx of people like that are going to need to be fed. Hydroponics is the most viable way to feed this wave of Arctic settlement. Interest is increasing for human settlement in the polar regions of both the Arctic and Antarctic. The question is why this interest is growing? Why would a lot of people want to move to a cold, desolate tundra? The answer is, of course, money. The Arctic has, in the next few decades, vast economic potential, this potential is, as it was centuries ago, minerals and a northwest passage. • 41. Effects Of Environment On The Environment In many distinctive instants, change does not occur until something drastic happens; only then do people begin to come to awareness. According to Physicians for Social Responsibilities , environmental factors are estimated to be responsible for approximately 80% of cancer diagnosis and deaths in the U.S. alone. Children, animals, and life everywhere are suffering due to consequences of environmental hazards. The detrimental consequences of unprotected environments are much greater than many perceive; therefore, by limiting harmful methods of environmental destruction and raising awareness these consequences may be decreased. The amount of contamination in the Earth s water and atmosphere has increased tremendously over the years. Factors such as fossil fuel combustion, water pollution, deforestation, toxic chemicals, and a multitude of others all contribute greatly to the environmental harm that is being faced today. Investigation has brought out evidence that pernicious industrial chemicals seem to be more widespread throughout the environmentthan anticipated. The abundance of pollutants exposed to the air and water we rely on may cause a variety of health defects and problematic issues to human, animal, and plant life everywhere. • 43. Critical Theories Of Criminology Introduction In this paper, I will discuss conflict criminology, radical criminology, peacemaking criminology, and postmodern criminology providing a comparison as well as a contrast to each. Discussion There are several theories developing critical theories of criminology, the first discussed in this paper will be conflict theory (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The conflict theory is the inequality of competing groups, moreover, the different social statuses of individuals. This theory compares the differences in white collar crime to the crime of the blue collar class. White collar crime is mostly money related crimes, including embezzlement, committed by the economically elite, conversely, blue collar crime is considered more violent as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The structure of this societal hierarchy places a few individuals in the higher ranks of society with the majority within the lower ranks, the proverbial winners as compared to the losers. This theory bases crime upon the various class struggles to obtain wealth within an unequal economic environment. The lower class struggles to obtain the same level of material wealth held by those of the higher classes creating an extremely competitive environment leading to individuals taking advantage of the weaker members of society to further their own level of wealth. The radical theory defines crime as the deprivation of basic human rights, as individuals compete for a portion of societal wealth in an unequally distributed market they become overly competitive with one another leading to what is described as senseless violence. The third theory discussed in this paper is the peacemaking criminology, this theory is a non violent approach to change society through the transformations beginning at the individual level (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The theorist of peacemaking view suffering as the cause of crime, expressing the need for a change within society to become for aware of the needs of those less fortunate, moreover, working together to resolve those issues. This theory views the acts of punishing individuals for crimes committed as the source for continued criminal acts. A shift from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Next Factor Of Public Opinion The next factor involved was public opinion. Many were for campus carry because they felt as if they had a fundamental right to be able to carry ( Strickland, 2016). Several students and faculty helped shape public opinion by describing how it would make their college experience a safe and better one ( Fernandez, 2015). Many Texas residents believed that if they were allowed to carry they could then prevent mass shooting ( Fernandez, 2015). This was a main argument of public opinion. Though many were against campus carry the ones for it worked together to help change the minds of people who did not believe that guns should be on campus. They did this by describing that the number of students who would actually carry on campus would be small and it would be older community college students ( Fernandez, 2015). Public opinion also helped the bill passbecause Texas is a conservative state with 850,000 license holders ( Fernandez, 2015). They wanted to make the public happy by passing the bill because the number of people for it outweighed the ones against it. The opinion of people such as the universitys chief of police spoke out about not being worried because it never had been an issue ( Fernandez, 2015). Students believed they had a right to self preservation and should be allowed to carry ( Strickland, 2016). In the end Governor Greg aAbbott had listened to people wanting to be allowed to carry on campus and decided he would make the public happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Analysis of Primary Colors Politics is a bloodsport, one big game of corruption, muckraking, prostitution, and defilement, which is played by the politicians, the media, and the seemingly innocent public that tends to forget that politicians are humans also, no better than the masses except for one thing, the ability to play the game. Primary Colors by Anonymous portrays this fraudulent game perfectly, exhibiting all of the dark aspects of a political campaign: from the vicious media in their pursuit of scandals, to the traitorousness of opposing candidates to destroy each other, all the way to the secretive sexual interactions taking place during the campaigning process. Yet in this vice corrupted novel, Anonymous also manages to let the human side of the tainted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, he remembers the promise that he made to Fat Willie about having him open a branch of his restaurant up in the capitol (214). But on the overall it is Stanton s genius that allows the people to relate to him, he lets them know that he associates with the problems they have and that he really cares about those problems (44), that is a noteworthy feature of his. With Freddy Picker, it is his honesty to the voters to the American public, admitting the mistakes he had made in the past and confessing that he is not qualified to even pretend to run for the presidency, (501) what highlights his nobleness and shows how dedicated he is to the masses. The truism of the unscrupulous game of politics is that one has to love the game dearly in order to succeed in it and be a good, noble politician. Picker does love the game, he does it for the pleasure of the challenge (486), but he plays for himself, and not for the public, which is a dangerous thing (486). His addiction to the political game as well as drugs made him quit the first time in 1978, and it is his addiction and not his love for the game that makes him crumble under the pressure of the present campaign. Picker avoids the game while campaigning against Stanton, and everyone on the Stanton campaign notices it, especially Jack himself: He isn t playing the game at all, not in any wayВ…He s not going to be able to ...
