Arnold Schoenberg s Drei Klavierstucke
Arnold Schoenberg s Drei Klavierstücke, Opus 11 (Three Piano Pieces) represent his first fully atonal
work, which would become the basis for moving forward in his later atonal and serial works.
Schoenberg believed that music history naturally pushed forward and that tonality could not contain
music forever. He believed atonality was the next step and Schoenberg admitted, The most decisive
steps forward occurred in the Two Songs, Op. 14, and in the Three Piano Pieces, Op. 11. However,
small traces of tonality and Romanticism remain, as the small thematic units of the work have shown
connections to that of Brahms and Liszt, especially in the opening of the first piece. Numerous
theorists have tried to place these three short pieces into various tonal centers for analysis, trying to
argue that it is not atonal. Attempts have been made to analyze the pieces in E major and minor, as
well as phyrygian mode, with no luck on forming an agreement to place this work into the world of
tonality. The first two pieces of Drei Klavierstücke were composed in February 1909 in Vienna, while
the third came later in August and a revision in 1924. Schoenberg published the work with the
Universal Edition in Vienna in 1910, revised in 1925. A typical performance lasts roughly 14 minutes.
The world premiere of the work was given by Etta Werndorff in Vienna s Ehrbar Saal on January 14th,
1910. Schoenberg wrote these pieces in his new outburst of expressionist music in 1909, along

The Psycotic and
Abstract
How we live our childhood and grow up can have an impact on adult years and determine how our
minds are in regards to right and wrong. Charles Manson lived a terrible child hood, and no child
should have to go through what he went through. This does not excuse what we do wrong, morally or
unlawfully in our adult years, but can have a terrible impact on the mind. The schools for crime
causation will help to try to understand Charles Manson, his childhood, adult live, and life of crime.
Charles Manson Charles Manson was not any ordinary man. He did not have a happy child hood, even
in his teen years, and most of his life has been spent incarcerated. The schools of crime causation and

The ego carries out those drives, and relates desires to practical behavioral alternatives, and the
superego determines the standards of right and wrong acquired by the personality (Schmalleger, 2007,
p. 93). This relates to Charles Manson because he could only see past his needs and interests. People
who lack fully developed superegos are often called psychopaths or sociopaths to indicate that they
cannot see beyond their own interests (Schmalleger, 2007, p. 93). Manson had a plan and he was
determined to see it through. Again, this comes down to the psychopath in Manson. It al leads back to
Armageddon and not living in the real world. The main purpose for Charles Manson and the Family to
do the gruesome murders was because of his plans to inherit the earth as the world ruler. Charles
Manson was a smart man. Although his child hood was too horrible for any child to go through,
Manson had enough sense to create a plan to start the next world war, that he studied Scientology and
hypnosis. Charles Manson, having grown up in reform schools and penitentiaries, was trained by
professional criminal minds (Lerma, 2006, p. 1). Manson realized that he could use scientology to his
advantage, so he studied it and found a useful weapon. According to Arnie Lerma, (2006): What
cannot be debated is that there was something in Scientology that a serial killer criminal mind found
very appealing, useful...it was a TOOL that empowered him, that provided

Bridges And Their Types Bridges Essay
BRIDGES AND THEIR TYPES
Highway Bridges
Bridges are an essential part of the transport infrastructure.
General Information:
A bridge is a means by which a road, railway or other service is carried over an obstacle such as a
river, valley, and other road or railway line, either with no intermediate support or with only a limited
number of supports at convenient locations. Fig: Docklands Light Rail Bridge, London, England.
Basic features of bridges:
Superstructure
`The superstructure of a bridge is the part directly responsible for carrying the road or other service.
Its layout is determined largely by the disposition of the service to be carried. In most cases, there is a
deck structure that carries the loads from the individual wheels and distributes the loads to the
principal structural elements, such as beams spanning between the substructure supports.
Road bridges carry a number of traffic lanes, in one or two directions, and may also carry footways. At
the edge of the bridge, parapets are provided for the protection of vehicles and people.
Rail bridges typically carry two tracks, laid on ballast, although separate superstructures are often
provided for each track. They are narrow (about 2m wide) and are usually single span structures that
rarely span more than 40m.
Substructure:
The substructure of a bridge is responsible for supporting the superstructure and carrying the loads to
the ground through foundations. To support the superstructure, single span bridges

Communist Party And Anti Corruption
On April 17, 1989, thousands of student protesters flooded Tiananmen Square, Beijing, to mourn Hu
Yaobang s death. Yaobang was the former General Secretary of the Communist Party and also served
as a symbol of political reform and anti corruption. The students asked the government to end
corruption and to give political and economic reform. Demonstrations spread to different cities, with
workers joining in. They complained about money and housing issues. The spread of the
demonstrations concerned Party leaders, who thought there was going to be rebellion from the
protesters. Li Peng, who ranked second in the Party, believed that they should nip it in the bud, while
Party General Secretary Zhao Ziyang thought that Yaobang s memorial ... Show more content on

All this does is help demonstrations spread. At this point, foreign coverage of the demonstrations is
commonplace, but Party members cannot agree on how to handle the situation. With students going
back to their classes, the protesters didn t have any real leadership. Different factions did different
things. Tension arose in the Communist Party while preparing for Soviet Party Secretary Mikhail
Gorbachev s trip to Beijing. Xiaoping wanted to solve the protester situation peacefully, but at the
same time, he wanted them out of the Square for Gorbachev s arrival. However, this would not be the
case. On May 13, over 100 students in Tiananmen Square started a hunger strike in hopes for talks
with the leaders of the Communist Party, knowing Gorbachev would arrive shortly. On May 15,
Gorbachev arrived in Beijing. He was there for the first ever Sino Soviet summit since 1959, 30 years
prior. Unfortunately for him, the strike made plans for him welcomed in the Square be canceled. By
the day after he arrived, there were at least 3,000 people that joined the strike, which was humiliating
to Gorbachev.
While this was happening, Zhao and Peng kept their respective stances; Zhao believed they should
listen to the people and make reforms, while Peng maintained that the protesters were no good and
that they were aiming to overthrow the Party. Xiaoping ignored

Al Qaeda Of The Arabian Peninsula
Running Head: Napier Final Paper
Final Paper: Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula Adam Napier COMM 3597.02: Media and Terrorism
MWF 1:50 2:45 Emily Davidson Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is a branch of the
Islamic organization known as al Qaeda. The AQAP is based in Yemen and was formed in 2009 after
an announcement that Yemeni and Saudi terrorists were unifying under a common banner (National
Counterterrorism Center [NCTC], 2014). The AQAP is now considered the most active and dangerous
branch of al Qaeda (Masters, 2014).
Yemen has a history of Jihadist activity dating back to the late 1990s when veterans of the Soviet
Afghanistan war returned home. When the Soviet Union fell, the jihadist believed that ... Show more

As stated by al Qaeda, the enemies of Islam include Heretics, Shiites, America, and Israel (Wright,
2006). Al Qaeda s and AQAP s religious and mystic beliefs aid the group because whenever we
respond with violence of any kind, we assist the terrorists in mobilizing the recruits (Stern, 2003, p.
289).
AQAP aligns with the DNA of symbolic terrorism because the group is the closest version to Osama
bin Laden s al Qaeda, which is built around a sense of Denial of their identity and by a perceived
threat to the Islamic world, Negation of the West and its ideas, and Affirmation through an identity
that provides a model of heroic action (Rowland Theye, 2008).
The AQAP is responsible for a number of high profile attacks which include attacks against US assets
in the Arabian Peninsula. The first attack that AQAP claimed was the bombing of USS Cole in 2000
which killed 17 US sailors. The group was also linked to the attack in September of 2008 against the
US embassy in Sana a in which militants fired rockets and detonated bombs that killed 10 Yemeni
guards and 4 civilians ( Profile, 2012). In 2009, AQAP launched its first attack outside of Yemen. The
target was Prince Mohammed bin Nayef of Saudi Arabia, however, the attack failed (Profile, 2012).
AQAP has also claimed involvement in the 2009 Christmas Day bombing attempt where Umar Farouk

The Contributions Of Pragmatism In The Hellenistic Period
It was only after Alexander s conquest of the Greek homeland that classical ideas were put under
pressure by a changing political climate and social disruption, eventually causing the expanding Greek
world to turn to pragmatism and realism. The ensuing Hellenistic period saw a move towards practical
applications of scientific knowledge and art styles reflecting the more complex emotions familiar to
Hellenistic Greeks. However, despite changing attitudes, the ingenuity and technical proficiency of
Greek individuals was generally undiminished. In mathematics, for example, Euclid (365 300 BCE)
wrote 13 groundbreaking books on geometry that continued to be used until the late 19th century and
virtually invented classical (Euclidean) geometry as we know it (Mastin, pars. 3). Archimedes, a 3rd
century BCE mathematician from Syracuse, made significant practical advances in the field of
physics, inventing the compound pulley and the Archimedean screw; he famously stated, give me a
fulcrum, and I ll shift the Earth, affirming his faith in applied science (Cary, 349). Early biologists and
naturalists of the Hellenistic period increasingly sought applications in medicine, which vastly
improved medical care (Cary, 351). Astronomy also saw advances in practical knowledge from figures
such as Eratosthenes, who calculated the circumference of the Earth, and Hipparchus, who determined
the length of the moon s orbit to within one second (Violatti (a), pars. 9). Architecture, once held up

The Advantages of an Automated System
The likely main advantage of such an automated system is the fact that it is a much faster system than
the general approach to recruitment and selection. The fact that the system is automated would mean
that the entire process is less complicated and time is saved. The business benefits from the fact that
the people who are hired can immediately start work and be included in the business process. Another
great advantage is the cost advantage. The fact that this system is automated likely means a one time
payment to the company or software producer who has created the system in the first place, plus
potential additional periodical costs related to the system s maintenance. However, for automated
system, it is likely that the human resource and personnel costs will significantly decrease. The
automated system requires fewer people to work it, potentially only one or two. The non automated
system involves individuals at every stage of the process, including the recruitment and selection
phases. The cost advantage is also complemented by the fact that the automated system would be
implemented for individuals that are hired in auxiliary positions, such as at the cafeteria, rather than in
those related with the core activities of the company. This would tend to show that the cost reduction
process would be applied selectively to a particular category of employees that generate a lower level
of revenues for the organization. However, there are also important disadvantages to

Living In America Essay
What it means to live in America is having freedom and plenty of opportunities. America is a land that
usually has open arms to anyone and everyone who needs a change. Living in America opens the
doors for all people men and women. America is one of the most if not the best country to be
discovered because we learn and build from our mistakes. Living in America is a blessing and a
grateful chance to do what I choose to do in life. Living in America is different than living in other
countries in so many ways. Some countries don t have a president nor do they have a stable system of
government. The best difference from America and other countries is all of the different types of food
people eat. Also in other countries what we Americans refer to as soccer is call futbol. The most
obvious difference is the way Americans drive because we have speed limits and cars but in some
countries people go superfast and in other countries people travel by camels and horses. Major events
that occurred during my life time was 911 when two planes brought down the twin towers. In japan
they had a huge tsunami that destroyed a lot of Japans landscape. In Charlottesville there was a mass
shooting inside a church by a white man who killed innocent black lives. Hurricane Katrina was also
another big hurricane that it completely destroyed New Orleans and Louisiana s landscape. Hurricane
Harvey happened in Texas and put a lot of families out of their homes due to floods. The most recent

Evidence Processing Firearms Evidence
Processing all different types of firearms is as important as lifting a fingerprint or packaging DNA as
evidence. It must be done in a cautious, safe manner so that fingerprints are not ruined, safety of the
investigator is insured. While using the proper techniques to processing firearms for evidence a case
can be brought to closure quicker, another criminal can be removed from the streets. The investigators
must realize the importance of the firearm being processed in order to find clues that lead to a suspect,
therefore collecting evidence should be error free for an example such as not having the correct bullet
casing at a shooting, can be in favor of the suspect.
Processing Firearms Evidence There are many steps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first step before handling any firearm is to take photographs for evidence! Next is to put on

that investigations can be carried out faster due to a more experienced technician, fingerprints will not

The semiautomatic pistol has a magazine which holds the cartridge. This gun can be shot

Theme:
Paul s theme is to tell about his labors for the Gospel and encourage them in their faith.
Original Meaning:
The meaning of the passage to Paul is to strengthen his brothers in the faith. Paul wrote this to show
them that things will not always be perfect and that some times they will face trials but with Jesus all
things are possible. Paul also encourages himself through the encouragement of the church of Colosse.
I think that when Paul writes to the church s and tell them what he thinks, encourages them , prays for
them, or even just telling them what he face for the gospel, that it gives him a sense of
accomplishment or even a sense of why he is doing what he is doing.
I think the meaning of this passage to the Church of Colosse is to be reminded of who Jesus is and
what he went through for them. They needed to be reminded of Christ s Deity and that there a people

Reproductive Rights
Introduction
There is a time bomb that is ready to go off, possibly within our lifetime; this device is constructed not
by terrorist but by an ever increasing world population. In an effort to combat its own population
problem, China has promoted policies with the intent of slowing down the growth rate of that nation s
approximately 1.3 billion people. The population policies that are be ing adopted raise fundamental
issues concerning human rights. Does a government have the right to place limits on the size of the

Extraction of Chlorophyll from Spinach Leaves
2 15 11
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment was to take spinach leaves and extract the chlorophyll and carotenoid
pigments by using acetone as the solvent. The chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments were extracted by
using column chromography and alumina was used as the solvent. Solvents of different polarities were
used, starting with the least polar, to extract the certain components from the leaves. They were then
analyzed by using thin layer chromatography.
Procedure:
The first part of the experiment dealt with breaking down the spinach leaves in a mortar and pestle.

The Current Rate Of Adoption
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY
An oft heard phrase in education has become both a directive and a duty for educators: We must meet
students where they are. This phrase refers to an obligation to meet students needs by matching
instructional methods to their levels and preferences. In this era of rapid technological innovation and
change, many students have embraced the use of Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook
and spend much of their time in its virtual spaces. Despite its popularity with college students, it is
unclear if university faculty educators feel that SNSs are appropriate places to go to meet their
students needs. This study seeks to explore this question by comparing faculty and students as to their

211). While many SNSs are in the early stages of development, the adoption of the concept has been
rapid. The study proposed here focuses specifically on the adoption of SNSs by students and faculty in
higher education.
Though SNSs have attained remarkable popularity, Facebook has become the most popular,
particularly among people of ages 17 to 25 (Melber, 2008). Recent studies indicate that the number of
older users is increasing rapidly (Kirkpatrick, 2009), but currently more than 90% of college students
have a Facebook account (Haywoode, 2010; Loveland, 2011). Thus, the substantial number of college
students using this technology has compelled many educators to wonder if there are potential benefits
for the use of Facebook to support education.
According to Santovex (2006), colleges and universities can use Facebook to engage students
academically and build relationships with faculty (p. 5). As retention has become a focal point for
many universities, several studies have suggested methods for universities to manage retention more
effectively. John N. Gardner, founder and senior fellow of the National Resource Center for The First
Year Experience and Students in Transitions, has visited many campuses, proposing to student affairs
professionals that involvement and sense of connectedness

Teaching Research Methods Within The Classroom
Abstract
Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course.
Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course. Within this are
many different statistical definitions which have been considered the most challenging aspect of the
curriculum.
An individual undergraduate psychology student took part in this study. The study aimed to increase
the accuracy and fluency of the recall of these definitions by applying an intervention phase of reading
through SAFMEDS cards aloud previous to recalling them in one minute. The SAFMEDS cards were

This is more of a requirement now as students are being given greater opportunities within their
course due to the new resources being put into psychology departments. Part of this means that
students are now able to conduct their own research within the third year of their degree, meaning they
need a deep level of understanding for statistics in order to accumulate adequate conclusions from
their results.
Precision teaching (PT) has proved to be an effective tool when aiming to teach students material
fluently and accurately. Lindsley (1990) showed that students in precision teaching classrooms who
were told to keep records of their own academic and non academic performance and use these records
to guide their performance and eventually lead to more academic success due to the visual
representation they had. This element of precision teaching is particularly useful as learners who
improve this way are susceptible to fluency based procedures which often consist of SAFMEDS or
packs of cards similar to this. SAFMEDS are typically used to help students become fluent in
definitions and basic concepts, in this experiment they are being used to improve a base of knowledge
on research methods within psychology.

The Salaries Of Chief Executive Salaries
1. INTRODUCTION
The salaries of chief executives is an issue that is heavily discussed on social media and on news
outlets, Increasing and decreasing CEO pay has large effects on a lot of people worldwide. This essay
will discuss to what extent or if at all chief executive salaries are excessive and should be regulated. I
will be arguing for the opinion that chief executive salaries are excessive and should be regulated, as
on average chief executive officers earn up to 180 times more than the average UK employee earns a
year (M West 2016) which may lead to demotivation of the workforce and reduce overall productivity
and reputation of the company. The outline of the essay is as follows, I will discuss points supporting
the opinion that chief executives are overpaid and require regulation as well as points opposing this
opinion.
2. MOTIVATION AND WAGE GAP
Excessive is defined as anything that is more than necessary, and something is only regulated when it
has negative impacts. The salaries of chief executives may be considered excessive when regular
employees are demotivated by the significant gap between their wages, the CPID released research
that more than half of UK employees believed high levels of chief executive pay demotivated them at
work and is bad for the reputation of the business (M West 2016). This shows that high pay of chief
executive officers does indeed have a negative impact on the motivation of the employees, and this
may lower productivity in the long

The Super Bowl
My spirit is broken, my days are cut short, the grave awaits me. (job 17:10 NIV) Well, it s finished.
The Super Bowl is done and Denver begins their reign as champions of the NFL. For all of its
overhype, I have to admit I enjoy the Super Bowl. I look forward to it even if my favorite teams aren t
playing. Actually my favorite teams haven t played in a Super Bowl in a long time. But I enjoy the
hype leading up to it. I enjoy all of the analysis. I enjoy watching the commercials , at least most of
them. I remain more than a bit uncomfortable with the puppy/monkey/baby creature. Mascots should
make you want to buy the product, not create an urge to garb a baseball bat and try to kill it while you
mutter prayers to send it back to the Netherworld from which it came. And this game, at least on paper
had a lot going for it. The old pro versus the brash young gunslinging quarterback. One QB a physical
phenom, the other moving as if he is put together by bailing wire. A top offense versus a crippling
defense. In some ways that s what you want to see in a Super Bowl. But what I enjoy the most is the
after game interviews and press conferences. Well, specifically the interviews with the losers. Please
don t think I m being particularly sadistic about that. But let s face it, the interviews with the winners
are pretty boring. They all pretty much say the same thing. They thank their teammates, family and
owners. talk about giving 100%, its a team effort. And

Sex And Gender Identity In Sports
Society often thinks of sports as competitive physical games thought up many centuries ago in ancient
Greece by two guys trying to decide who was entitled to the meat from a goat wandering down from
the mountains. By the time the match was over and done with, the men were sweaty and the goat had
meandered its way back up to the peak where it would fight its own battle for its beautiful goat wife.
Even if the endeavor proved meaningless in the end, the men still remembered the way they bonded
during their competition and the newfound respect they felt for their rival. In ancient Greece, only
men were allowed to participate in grand sporting activities and they usually had to do so naked so
they could show their stuff and assure officials they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some modified versions of Quidditch can be found in foreign countries, but the first game played by
the International Quidditch Association s standard ruleset was completed in 2005 at the town of
Middlebury, Vermont. Since that first match, Quidditch culture has spread like wildfire and is
continuing to develop as a renowned sport kept in constant development by its loving community.
These individuals refer to themselves as quidkids or quidditchers and bond over mutual quidditch
love, or quove. Quove is the emotion that has made it possible to piece together the International
Quidditch Association (IQA) who have in turn been able to host World Cups for lineups against teams
across the globe. While there was unfortunately no championship competition this year, the last was
held in Canada during 2014. As is usual with Quidditch title charts, the USA grabbed first place, but
teams from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, France, and Belgium came to compete.
For the founders of a modern day, locally assimilated sport, the IQA has done a remarkable job of
spreading their rulebook to anyone willing to participate. Revised versions are often being published,
building upon themselves over time. As of today, nine

The Alpha Chains
When the alpha chains are deleted, the iron that is supposed to attach to the alpha chains which
contain a heme molecule becomes free iron. This is because the iron has nowhere to attach if its chain
is missing. This free iron can be dangerous to the body because of its toxic nature. If the heme
molecules are not binding, iron cannot be stored there and therefore be transported to the red blood
cells. This means that oxygen is not being transported to the hemoglobin protein. The hemoglobin
protein has to be released from the red blood cells and be released into the plasma by enzymes that
contain heme. After the enzyme release the protein, the red blood is destroyed and hemoglobin can
release oxygen into the bloodstream. With Alpha Thalassemia, the low functioning numbers of
hemoglobin are not enough to provide stable oxygen levels. If the levels are too low anemia is
developed and blood transfusions are given to provide health red blood cells and hemoglobin proteins
that can have alpha chains. The influx of new hemoglobin proteins allows for iron to have heme
molecules that are in the alpha chains to bind. This allows for hemoglobin proteins to increase and
numbers allowing oxygen to be successfully released into the blood stream. However, that still leaves
the free iron that did not have a heme molecule and alpha chain to attach to. This leads to high levels
of iron that were once low before the new hemoglobin proteins were delivered because the bodies
cannot produce

Gun Laws And Gun Control
Body 1: England passed a law banning all handguns in 1997 following a school shooting(Malcolm).
However, in 2002, handgun crime has more than doubled by nearly thirty five percent since
then(Malcolm). There are two flaws in the idea that England s strict gun law is responsible for its low
levels of crime. First, violence and armed crime was low before gun controls were implemented.
Secondly, the long decline in the interpersonal violence ended in 1953, and violent crime has been
escalating ever since then, despite increasingly strict gun regulations(Malcolm). The first serious gun
control was imposed in 1920 not because of fear of crime, but rather due to fear of
revolution(Malcolm). In the beginning of World War I, the government faced massive labor
disruption, feared a Bolshevik revolution, and worried about the return of thousands of soldiers
brutalized by an especially ferocious war. The new act required a prospective gun owner to obtain a
certificate from the local police, who were responsible for determining whether the applicant was in
good standing for possession of a firearm. Parliament was assured that the sole intention of the law
was to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and other dangerous persons.(Malcolm) Despite
the fact that laws were implemented to remove guns from citizens, crime still increased, and most of
the citizens had no way to defend themselves when held at range from a deadly combatant. Gun
Legislation in the United States has a long

How Did Thomas Jefferson Influence Neoclassical Architecture
Neoclassical architecture began in the mid eighteenth century by the neoclassical movement. It is a
style principally derived from the work of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio, the architecture of
classical age, and the Marcus Vitruvius Pollio principles. Neoclassical architecture was the answer to
simplifying the excesses of the Rocco style with its simpler symmetrical forms, intense use of
columns, and a fondness for blank walls. Neoclassicism could be found flourishing in every major city
in Europe and the United States. Within this movement, two people stand out for their architectural
prominence. Thomas Jefferson from the United States and Robert Adams from Europe.
Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 July 4, 1826) was the author of the Declaration of Independence,
Governor of the State of Virginia, Ambassador to France, and the third President of the United States
of America. With these accomplishments, he was also one of the best architects of the late 18th and
early 19th century. Although a well educated man, Jefferson was a self taught architect greatly
influenced by the Italian revivalist architect Andrea Palladio (1508 1580). Jefferson was introduced to
neoclassical architecture during his tenure as an Ambassador to France. His enthusiasm for
neoclassical art had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Octagons were used in his work as with the entire Polar Forest House or just on the dome of
Monticello. Some other notable architectural features of Jeffersonian architecture include the use of
red brick for construction, white painted trim, hidden stairs, and a portico or covered entranceway
supported by enclosed walls or columns. Jefferson either designed or directly influenced public
buildings as well as private residences such as the Virginia State Capital, the United States Capital
Building, and his own houses Monticello and Polar Forest

Mary Parker Follett s Leadership
Mary Parker Follett had approached management in a different view than most managers of her time.
Rather than seeing conflict as just that, a conflict, she thought a conflict could be a good thing. Mary
believed that managing was not about dominating the employees, nor compromising with them but
rather stating each of the preferences a person holds and striving to meet each of the personal needs
together. She also believed that when a manager is giving orders, they need to thoroughly discuss the
instructions as well as deal with resentment. Chris Kolbe believes his authority comes from his
commitment to the company and his team, the way he approaches things and his performance. Kolbe
states he draws it from what he does every minute, in how he communicates with his employees, and
his directness. It seems as though Kolbe and Follett had similar managerial practices. Follett thrives
for a work place where each person can express their personal preferences yet being respectful and
mindful of those around them. Kolbe creates a work environment where each employee feels safe and
enjoys working with him. He allows each employee to express their ideas and be their own person
within the business. By putting each and every employee into the broader picture, they have a sense of
belonging. This creates a thriving business. Also, Follett goes on to state that a manager needs to be
direct and thorough about what needs to be done. Kolbe has these one on one talks with his employees

Three Answered Questions About War, State and Humanitarian...
Question 1: War is already a relatively rare phenomenon, although some forms are more common than
others, but imagine a world where war is almost unheard of. This scenario is a highly probable
outcome of a world populated solely by mature, liberal democracies. There are many benefits of
having a democracy as a countries form of government, and less violence is one of them. Whether the
violence be interstate wars, civil wars or terrorism, all instances would decrease in the case of a
democratic regime. Democracy is defined as a political system in which candidates compete for
political office through frequent, fair elections in which a sizeable portion of the adult population can
vote. Democracies can also be liberal or illiberal. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We believes it is imperative that all As stay together. To add to the argument that ethnic lines should
be drawn, it is well known that As and Bs have a long history of not getting along, this brings fear to
State A that ethnic cleansing might occur if the lines are not drawn around them. State B refuses to
budge on this topic, they have threatened that if they do not get all the land they want, then they will
wage war against State A. In recent history, State B has never gone through on a war threat, but this
time may be different. Through intelligence gathering, we have discovered B s large growth in
military and arms. We believe that they have been developing their army and building up weapons
supplies for the past few years. According to Daryl Press in Calculating Credibility , there is two ways
to measure credibility, past action theory and current calculus theory. If I follow the current calculus
theory, which Mr. Press believes to be correct, State B s threat is credible based on military growth
and high interest in this new territory. As a result, a bargain through coordination will have to be
reached. Both States A and B will have to give a little in our territory dispute to stay inside the
bargaining range.
Question 3:
Humanitarian crises are always enormously difficult to handle. Like the current conflict in Syria, there
are typically mass killing of civilians, ethnic cleansing and genocide. The United

By The End Of The Twenties, The Economic Prosperity And
By the end of the twenties, the economic prosperity and development of the culture of mass
consumption were replaced by the worst economic crisis in American history. The Great Depression,
which began in the US, brought massive unemployment and decline in a production. After the
unsuccessful attempt by Herbert Hoover to bring the country s economy out of the crisis, the newly
elected president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, encouraged by optimism, began to legislate an
improvised series of reforms and relief measures that were united by goals of relief, reform, and
recovery. These reforms came to be called the New Deal. The New Deal had a significant effect on the
United States economy, society, and political culture. However, not all ... Show more content on

The Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), which was a part of the First New Deal, caused
this effect. The influence of it expressed in the following: the Agricultural Adjustment Administration
raised total farm income, established parity prices based on the prices of prosperous years for basic
farm commodities, and subsidized farmers for reducing acreage or otherwise cutting production where
surpluses existed. However, the effect of AAA did not last long. In early 1936, ruling in Butler v. the
United States, the Court invalidated the AAA, declaring it an unconstitutional attempt at regulating
agriculture.
The New Deal also had a set of long term effects. They were mostly based on the social changes and
not on the reforming the economy or challenging the tenet of Capitalism. Moreover, the programs that
caused those effects were fundamentally criticized because of their socialistic directions. The pension
program of the Social Security Act had a long term effect of security for the most vulnerable groups
within the society. The act offered workers age 65 or older monthly stipends based on previous
earnings; in addition, it provided assistance to blind and handicapped Americans and dependent
children who did not have a wage earning parent. Another part of the long term security effect
provided by the Social Security Act were the security jobs on the labor market,

Employee Behavior In Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo was founded on March 18th, 1852 by Henry Wells and William Fargo to serve the West
during the gold rush. The company offered Banking (buying gold and selling paper bank drafts as
good as gold) and Express (rapid delivery of the gold and anything else valuable). They opened for
business in San Francisco, and earned a reputation of trust by dealing rapidly and responsibly with
people s money. (History of Wells Fargo, n.d.) Today, Wells Fargo is a bank holding company that
engages in the provision of banking, insurance, investments, mortgage, and consumer and commercial
finance. Wells Fargo is #5 of the World s largest Public Companies for 2017, according to Forbes. The

Wells Fargo has established their values as being committed to the best interests of its customers, but
just posting them online or on an office wall wasn t enough. Leaders need to live by those values
every day because employees notice how they behave. If Wells Fargo is truly committed to the best
interest of its customer s, then employees should have goals that reflect that mission. Employees and
the company could have benefitted from frequently reviewing their goals to ensure they kept up with
the company s mission and values. They need to set the right goals and have the right performance
conversations. The high pressure and unrealistic goals was the primary issue that drove the employees
to commit the fraud. If the managers had focused more on better motivational tactics, and reinforcing
the values of the company rather than high pressure and scare tactics for performance goals not being
met, there may have been a different outcome in how employees worked to meet their

Jane Smiley A Thousand Acres
Jane Smiley s A Thousand Acres is a modern day representation of Shakespeare s King Lear. The text
tales a tragic story of a family of a troubling past, willingly watching each others lives decay as the
tragedy unfolds. In spite of it s similarities to King Lear , this work of literature is a work of its own.
The text constructs a clear distinction of American rural Space, this is through foreground economic
and social issues raised throughout the text of the perception that is driven by ones understanding of
self and the world they live in. A Thousand Acres displays a form of ambivalence towards a corrupted
society. The characters attempt to exploit one another through the secretes in which they hold.

Air Canada Competitors
The last part of industry analysis is about rivalry. In aviation industry, the rivalry is very drastic. This
industry develops slowly or even stagnant and it is mature in recent period. There is no new company
established in developed areas and also there is no major firm going broken. Most of survivals are big
companies. All of them have abundant capital and ample operating experience and hold a relatively
fixed percentage of market. In long run, the number of airline companies does not change. In another
word, the cake is divided up. However, people define business with a ward, for profit. If airline
companies want to share more percentage of market, they must seize other companies part.

  • 2. Arnold Schoenberg s Drei Klavierstucke Arnold Schoenberg s Drei Klavierstücke, Opus 11 (Three Piano Pieces) represent his first fully atonal work, which would become the basis for moving forward in his later atonal and serial works. Schoenberg believed that music history naturally pushed forward and that tonality could not contain music forever. He believed atonality was the next step and Schoenberg admitted, The most decisive steps forward occurred in the Two Songs, Op. 14, and in the Three Piano Pieces, Op. 11. However, small traces of tonality and Romanticism remain, as the small thematic units of the work have shown connections to that of Brahms and Liszt, especially in the opening of the first piece. Numerous theorists have tried to place these three short pieces into various tonal centers for analysis, trying to argue that it is not atonal. Attempts have been made to analyze the pieces in E major and minor, as well as phyrygian mode, with no luck on forming an agreement to place this work into the world of tonality. The first two pieces of Drei Klavierstücke were composed in February 1909 in Vienna, while the third came later in August and a revision in 1924. Schoenberg published the work with the Universal Edition in Vienna in 1910, revised in 1925. A typical performance lasts roughly 14 minutes. The world premiere of the work was given by Etta Werndorff in Vienna s Ehrbar Saal on January 14th, 1910. Schoenberg wrote these pieces in his new outburst of expressionist music in 1909, along ... • 3. The Psycopathic Mental and Personality Disordr of Charles... The Psycotic and Abstract How we live our childhood and grow up can have an impact on adult years and determine how our minds are in regards to right and wrong. Charles Manson lived a terrible child hood, and no child should have to go through what he went through. This does not excuse what we do wrong, morally or unlawfully in our adult years, but can have a terrible impact on the mind. The schools for crime causation will help to try to understand Charles Manson, his childhood, adult live, and life of crime. Charles Manson Charles Manson was not any ordinary man. He did not have a happy child hood, even in his teen years, and most of his life has been spent incarcerated. The schools of crime causation and some of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ego carries out those drives, and relates desires to practical behavioral alternatives, and the superego determines the standards of right and wrong acquired by the personality (Schmalleger, 2007, p. 93). This relates to Charles Manson because he could only see past his needs and interests. People who lack fully developed superegos are often called psychopaths or sociopaths to indicate that they cannot see beyond their own interests (Schmalleger, 2007, p. 93). Manson had a plan and he was determined to see it through. Again, this comes down to the psychopath in Manson. It al leads back to Armageddon and not living in the real world. The main purpose for Charles Manson and the Family to do the gruesome murders was because of his plans to inherit the earth as the world ruler. Charles Manson was a smart man. Although his child hood was too horrible for any child to go through, Manson had enough sense to create a plan to start the next world war, that he studied Scientology and hypnosis. Charles Manson, having grown up in reform schools and penitentiaries, was trained by professional criminal minds (Lerma, 2006, p. 1). Manson realized that he could use scientology to his advantage, so he studied it and found a useful weapon. According to Arnie Lerma, (2006): What cannot be debated is that there was something in Scientology that a serial killer criminal mind found very appealing, useful...it was a TOOL that empowered him, that provided ... • 4. Bridges And Their Types Bridges Essay BRIDGES AND THEIR TYPES Highway Bridges Bridges are an essential part of the transport infrastructure. General Information: A bridge is a means by which a road, railway or other service is carried over an obstacle such as a river, valley, and other road or railway line, either with no intermediate support or with only a limited number of supports at convenient locations. Fig: Docklands Light Rail Bridge, London, England. Basic features of bridges: Superstructure `The superstructure of a bridge is the part directly responsible for carrying the road or other service. Its layout is determined largely by the disposition of the service to be carried. In most cases, there is a deck structure that carries the loads from the individual wheels and distributes the loads to the principal structural elements, such as beams spanning between the substructure supports. Road bridges carry a number of traffic lanes, in one or two directions, and may also carry footways. At the edge of the bridge, parapets are provided for the protection of vehicles and people. Rail bridges typically carry two tracks, laid on ballast, although separate superstructures are often provided for each track. They are narrow (about 2m wide) and are usually single span structures that rarely span more than 40m. Substructure: The substructure of a bridge is responsible for supporting the superstructure and carrying the loads to the ground through foundations. To support the superstructure, single span bridges ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Communist Party And Anti Corruption On April 17, 1989, thousands of student protesters flooded Tiananmen Square, Beijing, to mourn Hu Yaobang s death. Yaobang was the former General Secretary of the Communist Party and also served as a symbol of political reform and anti corruption. The students asked the government to end corruption and to give political and economic reform. Demonstrations spread to different cities, with workers joining in. They complained about money and housing issues. The spread of the demonstrations concerned Party leaders, who thought there was going to be rebellion from the protesters. Li Peng, who ranked second in the Party, believed that they should nip it in the bud, while Party General Secretary Zhao Ziyang thought that Yaobang s memorial ... At this point, foreign coverage of the demonstrations is commonplace, but Party members cannot agree on how to handle the situation. With students going back to their classes, the protesters didn t have any real leadership. Different factions did different things. Tension arose in the Communist Party while preparing for Soviet Party Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev s trip to Beijing. Xiaoping wanted to solve the protester situation peacefully, but at the same time, he wanted them out of the Square for Gorbachev s arrival. However, this would not be the case. On May 13, over 100 students in Tiananmen Square started a hunger strike in hopes for talks with the leaders of the Communist Party, knowing Gorbachev would arrive shortly. On May 15, Gorbachev arrived in Beijing. He was there for the first ever Sino Soviet summit since 1959, 30 years prior. Unfortunately for him, the strike made plans for him welcomed in the Square be canceled. By the day after he arrived, there were at least 3,000 people that joined the strike, which was humiliating to Gorbachev. While this was happening, Zhao and Peng kept their respective stances; Zhao believed they should listen to the people and make reforms, while Peng maintained that the protesters were no good and that they were aiming to overthrow the Party. • 6. Al Qaeda Of The Arabian Peninsula Running Head: Napier Final Paper Final Paper: Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula Adam Napier COMM 3597.02: Media and Terrorism MWF 1:50 2:45 Emily Davidson Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is a branch of the Islamic organization known as al Qaeda. The AQAP is based in Yemen and was formed in 2009 after an announcement that Yemeni and Saudi terrorists were unifying under a common banner (National Counterterrorism Center [NCTC], 2014). The AQAP is now considered the most active and dangerous branch of al Qaeda (Masters, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated by al Qaeda, the enemies of Islam include Heretics, Shiites, America, and Israel (Wright, 2006). Al Qaeda s and AQAP s religious and mystic beliefs aid the group because whenever we respond with violence of any kind, we assist the terrorists in mobilizing the recruits (Stern, 2003, p. 289). AQAP aligns with the DNA of symbolic terrorism because the group is the closest version to Osama bin Laden s al Qaeda, which is built around a sense of Denial of their identity and by a perceived threat to the Islamic world, Negation of the West and its ideas, and Affirmation through an identity that provides a model of heroic action (Rowland Theye, 2008). The AQAP is responsible for a number of high profile attacks which include attacks against US assets in the Arabian Peninsula. The first attack that AQAP claimed was the bombing of USS Cole in 2000 which killed 17 US sailors. The group was also linked to the attack in September of 2008 against the US embassy in Sana a in which militants fired rockets and detonated bombs that killed 10 Yemeni guards and 4 civilians ( Profile, 2012). In 2009, AQAP launched its first attack outside of Yemen. The target was Prince Mohammed bin Nayef of Saudi Arabia, however, the attack failed (Profile, 2012). • 7. The Contributions Of Pragmatism In The Hellenistic Period It was only after Alexander s conquest of the Greek homeland that classical ideas were put under pressure by a changing political climate and social disruption, eventually causing the expanding Greek world to turn to pragmatism and realism. The ensuing Hellenistic period saw a move towards practical applications of scientific knowledge and art styles reflecting the more complex emotions familiar to Hellenistic Greeks. However, despite changing attitudes, the ingenuity and technical proficiency of Greek individuals was generally undiminished. In mathematics, for example, Euclid (365 300 BCE) wrote 13 groundbreaking books on geometry that continued to be used until the late 19th century and virtually invented classical (Euclidean) geometry as we know it (Mastin, pars. 3). Archimedes, a 3rd century BCE mathematician from Syracuse, made significant practical advances in the field of physics, inventing the compound pulley and the Archimedean screw; he famously stated, give me a fulcrum, and I ll shift the Earth, affirming his faith in applied science (Cary, 349). Early biologists and naturalists of the Hellenistic period increasingly sought applications in medicine, which vastly improved medical care (Cary, 351). Astronomy also saw advances in practical knowledge from figures such as Eratosthenes, who calculated the circumference of the Earth, and Hipparchus, who determined the length of the moon s orbit to within one second (Violatti (a), pars. 9). • 8. The Advantages of an Automated System The likely main advantage of such an automated system is the fact that it is a much faster system than the general approach to recruitment and selection. The fact that the system is automated would mean that the entire process is less complicated and time is saved. The business benefits from the fact that the people who are hired can immediately start work and be included in the business process. Another great advantage is the cost advantage. The fact that this system is automated likely means a one time payment to the company or software producer who has created the system in the first place, plus potential additional periodical costs related to the system s maintenance. However, for automated system, it is likely that the human resource and personnel costs will significantly decrease. The automated system requires fewer people to work it, potentially only one or two. The non automated system involves individuals at every stage of the process, including the recruitment and selection phases. The cost advantage is also complemented by the fact that the automated system would be implemented for individuals that are hired in auxiliary positions, such as at the cafeteria, rather than in those related with the core activities of the company. This would tend to show that the cost reduction process would be applied selectively to a particular category of employees that generate a lower level of revenues for the organization. However, there are also important disadvantages to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Living in America opens the doors for all people men and women. America is one of the most if not the best country to be discovered because we learn and build from our mistakes. Living in America is a blessing and a grateful chance to do what I choose to do in life. Living in America is different than living in other countries in so many ways. Some countries don t have a president nor do they have a stable system of government. The best difference from America and other countries is all of the different types of food people eat. Also in other countries what we Americans refer to as soccer is call futbol. The most obvious difference is the way Americans drive because we have speed limits and cars but in some countries people go superfast and in other countries people travel by camels and horses. Major events that occurred during my life time was 911 when two planes brought down the twin towers. In japan they had a huge tsunami that destroyed a lot of Japans landscape. In Charlottesville there was a mass shooting inside a church by a white man who killed innocent black lives. Hurricane Katrina was also another big hurricane that it completely destroyed New Orleans and Louisiana s landscape. His crowning accomplishment was the translation and publication of A Commentary on the Book of Gates and promoted an unnamed religion of the First Gods. • 16. The Current Rate Of Adoption CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY An oft heard phrase in education has become both a directive and a duty for educators: We must meet students where they are. This phrase refers to an obligation to meet students needs by matching instructional methods to their levels and preferences. In this era of rapid technological innovation and change, many students have embraced the use of Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook and spend much of their time in its virtual spaces. Despite its popularity with college students, it is unclear if university faculty educators feel that SNSs are appropriate places to go to meet their students needs. While many SNSs are in the early stages of development, the adoption of the concept has been rapid. The study proposed here focuses specifically on the adoption of SNSs by students and faculty in higher education. Though SNSs have attained remarkable popularity, Facebook has become the most popular, particularly among people of ages 17 to 25 (Melber, 2008). Recent studies indicate that the number of older users is increasing rapidly (Kirkpatrick, 2009), but currently more than 90% of college students have a Facebook account (Haywoode, 2010; Loveland, 2011). Thus, the substantial number of college students using this technology has compelled many educators to wonder if there are potential benefits for the use of Facebook to support education. According to Santovex (2006), colleges and universities can use Facebook to engage students academically and build relationships with faculty (p. 5). As retention has become a focal point for many universities, several studies have suggested methods for universities to manage retention more effectively. John N. Gardner, founder and senior fellow of the National Resource Center for The First Year Experience and Students in Transitions, has visited many campuses, proposing to student affairs professionals that involvement and sense of connectedness ... INTRODUCTION The salaries of chief executives is an issue that is heavily discussed on social media and on news outlets, Increasing and decreasing CEO pay has large effects on a lot of people worldwide. This essay will discuss to what extent or if at all chief executive salaries are excessive and should be regulated. I will be arguing for the opinion that chief executive salaries are excessive and should be regulated, as on average chief executive officers earn up to 180 times more than the average UK employee earns a year (M West 2016) which may lead to demotivation of the workforce and reduce overall productivity and reputation of the company. The outline of the essay is as follows, I will discuss points supporting the opinion that chief executives are overpaid and require regulation as well as points opposing this opinion. 2. MOTIVATION AND WAGE GAP Excessive is defined as anything that is more than necessary, and something is only regulated when it has negative impacts. The salaries of chief executives may be considered excessive when regular employees are demotivated by the significant gap between their wages, the CPID released research that more than half of UK employees believed high levels of chief executive pay demotivated them at work and is bad for the reputation of the business (M West 2016). This shows that high pay of chief executive officers does indeed have a negative impact on the motivation of the employees, and this may lower productivity in the long ... • 23. The Alpha Chains When the alpha chains are deleted, the iron that is supposed to attach to the alpha chains which contain a heme molecule becomes free iron. This is because the iron has nowhere to attach if its chain is missing. This free iron can be dangerous to the body because of its toxic nature. If the heme molecules are not binding, iron cannot be stored there and therefore be transported to the red blood cells. This means that oxygen is not being transported to the hemoglobin protein. The hemoglobin protein has to be released from the red blood cells and be released into the plasma by enzymes that contain heme. After the enzyme release the protein, the red blood is destroyed and hemoglobin can release oxygen into the bloodstream. With Alpha Thalassemia, the low functioning numbers of hemoglobin are not enough to provide stable oxygen levels. If the levels are too low anemia is developed and blood transfusions are given to provide health red blood cells and hemoglobin proteins that can have alpha chains. The influx of new hemoglobin proteins allows for iron to have heme molecules that are in the alpha chains to bind. This allows for hemoglobin proteins to increase and numbers allowing oxygen to be successfully released into the blood stream. However, that still leaves the free iron that did not have a heme molecule and alpha chain to attach to. This leads to high levels of iron that were once low before the new hemoglobin proteins were delivered because the bodies cannot produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Gun Laws And Gun Control Body 1: England passed a law banning all handguns in 1997 following a school shooting(Malcolm). However, in 2002, handgun crime has more than doubled by nearly thirty five percent since then(Malcolm). There are two flaws in the idea that England s strict gun law is responsible for its low levels of crime. First, violence and armed crime was low before gun controls were implemented. Secondly, the long decline in the interpersonal violence ended in 1953, and violent crime has been escalating ever since then, despite increasingly strict gun regulations(Malcolm). The first serious gun control was imposed in 1920 not because of fear of crime, but rather due to fear of revolution(Malcolm). In the beginning of World War I, the government faced massive labor disruption, feared a Bolshevik revolution, and worried about the return of thousands of soldiers brutalized by an especially ferocious war. The new act required a prospective gun owner to obtain a certificate from the local police, who were responsible for determining whether the applicant was in good standing for possession of a firearm. Parliament was assured that the sole intention of the law was to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and other dangerous persons.(Malcolm) Despite the fact that laws were implemented to remove guns from citizens, crime still increased, and most of the citizens had no way to defend themselves when held at range from a deadly combatant. It is a style principally derived from the work of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio, the architecture of classical age, and the Marcus Vitruvius Pollio principles. Neoclassical architecture was the answer to simplifying the excesses of the Rocco style with its simpler symmetrical forms, intense use of columns, and a fondness for blank walls. Neoclassicism could be found flourishing in every major city in Europe and the United States. Within this movement, two people stand out for their architectural prominence. Thomas Jefferson from the United States and Robert Adams from Europe. Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 July 4, 1826) was the author of the Declaration of Independence, Governor of the State of Virginia, Ambassador to France, and the third President of the United States of America. With these accomplishments, he was also one of the best architects of the late 18th and early 19th century. • 28. Mary Parker Follett s Leadership Mary Parker Follett had approached management in a different view than most managers of her time. Rather than seeing conflict as just that, a conflict, she thought a conflict could be a good thing. Mary believed that managing was not about dominating the employees, nor compromising with them but rather stating each of the preferences a person holds and striving to meet each of the personal needs together. She also believed that when a manager is giving orders, they need to thoroughly discuss the instructions as well as deal with resentment. Chris Kolbe believes his authority comes from his commitment to the company and his team, the way he approaches things and his performance. Kolbe states he draws it from what he does every minute, in how he communicates with his employees, and his directness. It seems as though Kolbe and Follett had similar managerial practices. Follett thrives for a work place where each person can express their personal preferences yet being respectful and mindful of those around them. Kolbe creates a work environment where each employee feels safe and enjoys working with him. He allows each employee to express their ideas and be their own person within the business. By putting each and every employee into the broader picture, they have a sense of belonging. This creates a thriving business. After the unsuccessful attempt by Herbert Hoover to bring the country s economy out of the crisis, the newly elected president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, encouraged by optimism, began to legislate an improvised series of reforms and relief measures that were united by goals of relief, reform, and recovery. However, the effect of AAA did not last long. In early 1936, ruling in Butler v. the United States, the Court invalidated the AAA, declaring it an unconstitutional attempt at regulating agriculture. The New Deal also had a set of long term effects. They were mostly based on the social changes and not on the reforming the economy or challenging the tenet of Capitalism.
