Theme Of Death In A Clean Well Lighted Place By Ernest...
Ernest Hemingway was one of the most prolific writers of the Lost Generation, of men who lived
through the horrors of World War One. Death played an important role in shaping both his young
and adult life and was a seemingly unavoidable to many of the people closest to him. Hemingway
s life was drastically altered by the outbreak of WWI, which was one of the greatest influences on
the works he would later produce. There, he met his first wife, which marked the beginning of
several troubled and unhappy marriages. His father committed suicidearound this time, the first of
many suicides of the people nearest to Hemingway which would plague him for the rest of his life.
The war remained a driving force in Hemingway s life long after its finish.... Show more content on

Their dispute arise, as the man wishes for the child to be aborted as so that they can be
unrestrained and continue to live their lives in the manner that it was lived, while the woman
wishes to keep the child in order to settle down and live a fulfilling life (Holladay [EBSCO]). Much
like the previous short story, Hills Like White Elephants tackles the concept of finding fulfillment in
the meaningless suffering that is life to Hemingway. The man wishes to lead a life filled with
instant and spontaneous gratitude, that being traveling across the world or drinking, while the
woman wishes to things that are satiating and fulfilling in the long term, like settling down and
raising a family. This leads into the existentialism that is so paramount to Hemingway s worldview.
The man, therefore, represents humanity in the modern age as he does not live honestly and seeks
only what rewards him instantly rather than something that benefits him greater in the long term.
Rather than focus and work towards something truly beneficial, humanity fights to be unrestrained
and minimally responsible for their actions, choosing to devote themselves to simple pleasures and
vices rather than honest and bountiful rewards. The couple is described to be in a bar located in a
rather barren, lifeless area

The Necklace, By Guy De Maupassant
In Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, readers experience Mathilde Loisel s life changing event.
Coming from nobility, de Maupassant tells the story of luxurious desire through the eyes of the
middle class woman Mathilde. Mathilde constantly dreams of living the life of the upper class,
and this prohibits her from acting in reality. Mathilde s internal struggle for a sense of social
royalty shows readers how quickly selfish pride destroys a person s life. Throughout the course of
The Necklace, Mathilde changes from an arrogant and prideful housewife to a modest and humble
companion. At the beginning of the story, Mathilde is portrayed as a bitter woman who thinks she
is entitled to a more luxurious life. While eating dinner, Mathilde thinks to herself: She had no
dresses, no jewels, nothing. And she loved nothing but that; she felt made for that. She would so
have liked to please, to be envied, to be charming, to be sought after (68). In this instance, Mathilde
cannot focus on what she is currently involved in because she is so obsessed with living a higher
life. The reader infers that the consumables of the upper class is consuming her thoughts. One
evening, after sulking to herself, as usual, her husband comes home with an invitation to a party
which she reacts to questionably: Instead of being delighted, as her husband hoped, she threw the
invitation on the table with disdain, murmuring: What do you want me to do with that (69)? As the
readers sees,

Evolution Of The Female Professional Statistics
Evolution is something that has occurred since the beginning of time and as the decades go on,
evolution continues to occur throughout various aspects of life. One of these prominent spectrums
is the work place. While women have not always blossomed in the business world, the female
professional statistics have begun and continued to increase as time has. Although there is more
genderequality amongst several companies, the numbers aren t necessarily where they should be.
According to an article by Warner, women make up 50.8% of the population, only 14.6% of those
women hold executive positions in the workplace. Even less are top earners and less than 5% are
Fortune 500CEO s. The numbers continue to drop for women of color as only 11.9% hold
positions at the manager level (Warner, 2014). And according to the article by Kranc (2014),
...although women make up 19 percent of director positions within the S P 100, they represent
only 8 percent of the highest paid executives (Kranc, 2014). These numbers provided by Warner
are proof that there are still problems regarding the growth of women in the corporate world,
especially when the women are of a minority background. Fortunately, as will be discussed in this
assignment, this gender gap is beginning to close as women are standing their ground and fighting
for the positions and pay that they deserve.

Windshield Survey Report
For our windshield survey we decided to assess the city of Melbourne on a Friday afternoon, the
day after summer vacation began. It was a nice sunny yet breezy afternoon, the children and some
of their families were outside walking the streets, sitting on the porch and playing in the park. While
assessing the cityI noticed that the area was a low income community and consist of apartments as
well as homes that are in need of cosmetic work. In the neighborhood that I assessed, I noticed
that there is one park which has minimal lighting as well as upkeep. The park resides in a big area
right across from one of the local churches in the neighborhood. Near the area you also have the
local library which is free to the community. It has a huge assortment... Show more content on

This type of advertisement may be the wrong advertisement this community needs. When it
comes to schools, I noticed that the area had one elementary school. The elementary school
parking lot was empty due to school being out but I did notice school buses still running. I wasn t
certain if it was for summer school or for transportation for church group functions. In the area I
have noticed multiple small churches. They also had community worship centers which took
place inside of apartment complexes. These local worship centers advertised on the board of the
school library as well as on the windows of some of the local convenient stores. Some of the
churches in the neighborhood also aid in reaching out to the families who are in need of food.
They have certain hours that they are open to where families can come in and obtain food for
free for their families. It is on a first come first serve basis and there is a limit. They neighborhood

Economic Globalization Is The Growing Integration Of World...
Economic globalization is the growing integration of world markets and the intensifying
interdependence of global economies. The process has social and economic costs as well as
benefits. The process is both critiqued and lauded by scholars. On one hand it provides
opportunities and growth while on the other hand it creates an unequal distribution of wealth also
while hurting workers rights. At the conclusion of World War II, Harry White and John Maynard
Keynes aimed to create a financial strategy to liberate the world economy from the extensive
restrictions and controls levied during the war. At the Bretton Woods conference, they provided
proposals which strengthened American economic hegemony (Rodrik). This happened because
both White and Keynes recognized that domestic economic needs outranked global economics
(Rodrik). The goal of the Bretton Woods conference was to stimulate moderate economic
globalization.
Dani Rodrik praises the unification of global markets and trade liberalization after the Bretton
Woods conference. He especially lauds Keynesian globalization, which gives states discretion in
trade policy and regulation. According to Rodrik, the Bretton Woods conference was successful in
fostering economic trade after years of war and rivalry. However, he does critique trade
liberalization and multilateral international institutions that emerged out of Bretton Woods, such as
the International Monetary Fund (IMF), General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade

Analysis Of The Novel The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
Many people do not know what it is like growing up in poverty or having real hardships. In the
novel The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Walls never knew how she would get her next meal.
Whether it was actually bought by her parents or fished out of the trash, she always adapted , lived
on and survived. Walls communicated through her book, the message strength is gained from
overcoming the obstacles life puts in front of you using descriptions, symbolism, character s actions
and personification, To begin, through the description and symbolization of the Joshua tree, Walls
depicts her message. Walls description of the tree was that it was, scraggly and freakish,
permanently stuck in its twisted, tortured position (35). Through this quote the reader has an
understanding of how because of the natural elements, such as wind and rain, the tree becomes a
deformed more flawed version of itself. Her mother, however, believes that, It s the Joshua tree s
struggle that gives it its beauty (38). This description combined with Walls makes the Joshua tree
a symbol for Walls herself. She is a mentally and physically scarred human being. The tree is
stronger than the wind and instead of being uprooted, it adapts to what the earth sends to. Similarly,
Walls adapts to what life send to her, opposed to giving up. Her adversities created her
imperfections, which makes her strong. Through the description and symbolization of the Joshua
tree Walls starts to render her message. In

Amy Tan s Rules Of The Game
This short story, Rules of the Game by Amy Tan, describes the protagonist, eight year old Waverly
Jong, otherwise named Meimei, learning the lesson of silence from her mother, Mrs. Jong, as the
art of invisible strength . Tan writes, the lesson was a tactic for winning arguments and attaining
respect from others . Having lived in San Francisco s Chinatown, on Waverly Place, Meimei and
her two elder brothers, Vincent and Winston took in the everyday rackets, marvels and scents of
Chinatown. They also took in the constant badgering of their mother imparting her daily truths as
Chinese ways of conduct (Vu ya chung). At a Christmas party, Waverly s brother Vincent had
received the gift of a chessset from the Baptist Church. Waverly... Show more content on

Waverly knew her mom would not let me play among strangers . She used reverse psychology to
control her mother, by speaking in a small quiet voice, saying she did not want to go. Mrs. Jong
then told Waverly she must play. Waverly got what she wanted without her mother realizing she
had been manipulated by her daughter. The theme of the struggle of control became much more
evident as Waverly realized how to trick her mother to regain power over Mrs. Jong and to do as
she pleased. Another example demonstrating this theme, was Mrs. Jong s inability to allow her
daughter to use the techniques Waverly chose in playing chess. After a chess tournament won
by Waverly, Mrs. Jong gave no sign of approval and said, ...Next time win more and lose less
regarding the chess pieces Waverly took from her opponent. Waverly did try to explain to her
mother that part of the game was losing pieces to get ahead ; her mother, although, did not accept
that. Mrs. Jong hardly comprehended the rules of chess, but she nevertheless wanted to prove to
her daughter that she was still fully in control and had all the power to tell Waverly how she
should play the game. Regardless of all the games her daughter had won, Mrs. Jong tried to
maintain control over the simplest aspects of the chess game to exert her authority

Wood Thrush
The data from the harvested stand and unharvested stand shows that wood thrush would likely be
able to find a suitable breeding, nesting, and foraging habitat in this section of the Vermont National
Forest (Table 1), particularly in the unharvested stand, though improved management practices
could make the harvested stand more suitable. Wood thrushcommonly hide their nests under leaves
in a shady area in the midstory level, so it is important to have vertically and horizontally diverse
stands (Hagenbauch et al. 2011 a). The unharvested stand provides higher quality nesting and
breeding areas due to the higher density of stems in the midstory and canopy and greater canopy

Results are expected to vary due to site characteristics and management histories (Hoover et al.
2012), and in this case, invasive species and harvesting in the past century could have contributed
to our estimate being lower than the regional estimate of 116 Mg C/ha. Invasive species can affect
forest health, regeneration, and forest structure, so invasive species could have crowded out live
trees, decreasing the above ground live tree carbon pool. The unharvested stand has not been cut
in the past three decades so this factor should not affect the above ground carbon pool
significantly, though it has likely been harvested more than the old growth forest stands sampled
in Hoover et al. (2012) because there was no evidence of harvesting in those stands. Species
composition of the unharvested stand could have contributed to our estimate for the above ground
live tree carbon pool being slightly higher than the estimate from Smith et al. (2004). Our
unharvested stand was mainly made up of sugar maple and beech trees (Figure 2.), and these two
species contain more carbon than birch (Jenkins et al. 2003). For the harvested stand with 61.18

How Did Malcolm X Affect The Civil Right Movement
Malcolm X and the Black Panthers both the profoundly affected the goals of the civil right
movement. Malcolm X was born on May 19th, 1925 in Omaha Nebraska. Earl Little, (Malcolm s
father) was an outspoken Baptist minister and an avid supporter of the Black Nationalist leader
Marcus Garvey. Malcom graduated at the top of his class however when a teacher told him that
his dream of becoming a lawyer was no realistic goal for a nigger (Genius, 2016), these words
greatly impacted him and caused him to leave school. Malcom s journey that caused him to affect
the civil right movement were motivated by his unprivileged past, as he had been involved in
various crimes and directed by misleading guidance, none the less moulding him into an influential
figure. Similarly, in October 1966, in Oakland California, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded
the Black Panther Partyfor Self Defense. The Panthers practiced militant self defense of minority
communities against the U.S government, and fought to establish revolutionary socialism through
mass organizing and community based programs. The party was on the first organizations un U.S
history to militantly struggle for ethnic minority and work class emancipation. Both of Malcolm X
and the Black Panthers had goals to change the way African Americans were treated throughout
America.
Malcolm X was a black political speaker, activist and Muslim minister. He had a dark past, which

Legalization of All Drugs
Legalize Drugs! I know what you re thinking, are you crazy!
The debate over the legalization of drugs continues to disturb the American public. Such an issue
stirs up moral and religious beliefs, beliefs that are contrary to what Americans should believe. I
ask all of you to please keep an open mind and hear me out on this very controversial subject. All of
us have in some way or another been affected by drug, whether it is a family member or the
economic burden on society. Americans often take at face value the assumptions that drugs cause
addiction, which leads to crime. This is true but abundant evidence exists to support the view that
legalizing illicit drugs can help solve the drug problem in America. There is not a way to stop ...

The day after legalization, the honest kids will have the last laugh. The pushers will be out of a
job, unemployed. What could be done is instead of giving the pusher the profit; we can put the
money into the hands of the government. Let the government put it into education for drugs or
in to well needed social programs. The government would increase revenue in many ways. The
first way would be that the majority of inmates are drug offenders; an inmate costs the
government approximately 20,000 (Fedral burea of proison facts, internet). There would be a lot
of money being saved by the government, there would be no more Drug Enforcement Agencies,
which cost the government a lot of money to train, but also the equipment and wages, not to
mention the state and local departments. There would be no more lives wasted on trying to fight
the drug war. One might ask if drugs were legalized, would that lead to more addicts? There is a
chance, especially at first. Though some say it would be like the forbidden fruit theory, if it were
legal it would take the thrill out of getting them, so that could discourage drug use. But it is
important to understand that we have so many addicts today because pushers are doing their jobs
quite well: pushing drugs on people who otherwise would not likely use them. They glamorize the
drugs, give them away free,

Analysis Of The Brothers K
THE BROTHERS K By David James Duncan. 645 pp. New York: Doubleday.
THE 19th century Russian novel has been born again in The Brothers K, David James Duncan s
wildly excessive, flamboyantly sentimental, tear jerking, thigh slapping homage to Dostoyevsky
and Tolstoy and the game of baseball.
For the title isn t merely a spin on The Brothers Karamazov, though Mr. Duncan makes frequent
references to that heavy tome. K, we are reminded, is also the baseball scorecard symbol for
striking out and thus, as Mr. Duncan extrapolates it, for failing, flunking, pratfalling, making a
bad situation even worse. But it can have a positive side as well. To lose your very self for the sake
of another, he adds, is . . . the only way you re ever going to save it.
The strikeout kids are the brothers Chance, four boys of the baby boom generation born to Hugh
Chance, a worldly wise and weary fastball slinging minor league pitcher, and Laura, Hugh s
staunchly conservative Seventh day Adventist wife. Kincaid, the novel s principal narrator; his
brothers, Everett, Irwin and Peter, and their twin sisters, Beatrice and Winifred, grow up in Camas,
Wash., a working class town where Hugh supplements his meager baseball salary by working at
the local paper mill.
Everyone believes that Papa Chance is destined for the big leagues until an accident at the mill
crushes the thumb on his pitching hand. Laura declares that this, like all tragedies, is God s will,
and that nothing can be done to make it better. The family settles for a life of noisy desperation
until a foulmouthed surgeon offers to repair the injured thumb with bones from Papa s toe. Thus
Hugh Chance is reborn as his team s pitching coach and stupid situation reliever, known, of course,
as Papa Toe.
For a while, the national pastime, seen on television and from rump punishing bleachers far from
the bright lights of the major leagues, becomes a complex metaphor for all that Papa Chance and
his sons hold sacred. Everett, the eldest, even goes so far as to mark the beginning of the turbulent
60 s not with the Kennedy assassination or the arrival of the Beatles but with the day Roger Maris
became the assassin of a legend, hitting 61 home runs and breaking Babe

The Role Of Women In The Mahabharata
THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE MAHABHARATA The role of women in the Mahabharata
makes an interesting and fascinating study providing insight into the strengths and weaknesses of
their character. In the Mahabharata, four women play pivotal role in the course of events. The
men play dice and wage wars in Mahabharata, as anywhere else; but it is the women who hold
power and influence. It is the women who direct the course of events and unconsciously determine
the fate of men and their generations to follow. The women are the true leaders of the Epic. These
women displayed that the truly powerful do not cling to power. They knew when and how to wield
it but also, even more important, to when not to use it.

He said that victory had indeed accrued to the righteous as the Pandavas had fought for a righteous
cause. Gandhari, however, could not forgive Lord Krishna whom she held responsible for all the
tragic events. She cursed him saying that the whole of his clan of Yadavas would die fighting one
another. Her words came to be true. After the war, she retired to the forest with her husband and

The Causes Of The Japanese Internment Of WWII
The Japanese internment of WWII was one of the biggest cases of racial prejudice America has
ever committed. During a time when Italian and German Americans were a much bigger threat to
our nation s security, we deliberately alienated Japanese citizens in our society. Not only did we
restrict the freedoms of American born citizens for three years, but we have also caused long term,
irreparable damage to the Japanese people, and their society. While internment may have decreased
the odds of Japanese spies in our military and mob violence it is no excuse for the atrocity we put
our own citizens through. American citizens, who are granted the right to life, liberty, and the
pursuit of happyness, were robbed of these very rights our country was founded on. Internment
camps were often in the middle of nowhere, and in very disatifactory condition for all residing in
them. After internment many people, since they could not pay their mortgage loans, lost their
homes and life savings causing widespread poverty. These and many other factors are why
internment during WWII was unjust and motivated by racial prejudice, not national security. While
Japanese internment may have isolated a small amount of Japanese spies, it was unjustified
considering that the majority of people interned where innocent. According to government officials

Polyethylene Research Paper
Around 150 years ago, there was no such thing as plastic or any synthetic materials that were
widely used. The invention of plastic gave us the ability to produce materials that cannot be made
from natural substances alone. At first the benefit of creating synthetic materials was greatly
overlooked for many years, but over time the benefits became more evident. Polyethylene s first
discovery was actually made on accident. In 1899, Hans von Pechmann discovered polyethylene at
the bottom of a test tube in his laboratory (Sharp 18). He was convinced that this chemical was a
waste product that could be found after chemical reactions had taken place. Making this
assumption, he disregarded the chemical for what seemed to be practical reasons at the... Show

In fact the 1950 s and 1960 s showed a time of great expansion for the uses of plastic materials. So
much so that in 1976, plastic surpassed steel in becoming the most widely used material (Greer
A.25.). With the major technological advancements that occurred around this time in the 1970
s, many technological products today now contain polyethylene or other plastic materials. Some
examples of current technological products that are composed of polyethylene include DVDs,
computer and video games and CDs (Bell 17). It has been proven that the use of polyethylene in
these products has also increased the audio and video capabilities of these products greatly (Bell
17). CDs made in the last several decades are made from an injection molded [form of]
polyethylene and this material makes the CD less likely to wear down over time (Bell 17). Our
entertainment would be of a much lower quality if polyethylene wasn t used in making CDs and

18th Century American Pirates
While images of Port Royal and the Spanish Main fill most people s imagination when they hear
the word pirate, the truth is not all privateers were sailing around the Caribbean looking to capture
gold bound for Cadiz. The British government imposed a huge tariff on goods coming in and out
of the American Colonies that spurned a black market for cheaper goods that had been plundered
from foreign vessels. At the time South Carolina was an impoverished colony that was only eager
to trade with the pirates letting them move around town freely just as if they were in New
Providence.

obtain a chest of medicine that contained mercury the only thing at the time known to treat syphilis.

One member of the raid on Charlestown that did not fare as well, however, was Stede Bonnet a

Not skilled in the art of navigation and warfare Bonnet was caught by the British after a five hour

Now tried and convicted to death by hanging Bonnet was taken to the gallows at White Point where
he and other pirates that followed were strung up until dead.

Weird Melancholy Of Henry Lawson s The Bush Undertaker...
Weird Melancholy in Henry Lawson s The Bush Undertaker and Peter Weir s Picnic at Hanging
Rock
In 1876, in his preface to Adam Lindsay Gordon s Poems, novelist Marcus Clarke coined the
phrase Weird Melancholy in reference to what he perceived to be the dominant note of his country
s landscape and his subject s verse. In doing so, he distilled the entire mood of Australian Gothic
into one eerie essence, an essence present, to varying extents, in all texts of that genre. This can be
seen through an examination of two exemplary Australian Gothic texts, each vastly different from
the other in form and content, but united by their pervasive aura of Weirdness and Melancholy:
Henry Lawson s 1894 short story The Bush Undertaker and Peter ... Show more content on

After doing this, a great greasy black goanna (29) causes the hatter the stumble upon the corpse of
his friend, Brummy. In describing the reptile, alliteration serves as emphasis, while the word black
connotes the native Australian whose bones have been disinterred by the protagonist. As he goes
about burying Brummy, the goanna, always accompanied by the epithet black , reappears
continually. The man s repeated sightings of the creature link it to something sinister, until it
becomes a symbolic force of justice, frighteningly rebuking the hatter for his profanity of a sacred
site (Lee). The goanna is a metaphor for a divine power, supernatural, fatalistic, and truly Weird.
The idea that human activity is governed by a higher power, resulting in a lack of personal
agency, is also explored in Picnic at Hanging Rock. Even before they arrive at their picnic spot, the
convoy from Appleyard College seem to be greatly affected by Hanging Rock. Mathematics

nostalgically (Green 11) about its creation:
Silicious lava, forced up from deep down below. Soda trachytes extruded in a highly viscous state,
building the steep sides mametons we see in Hanging Rock. And quite young, geologically

the picnickers. Further, her

Art and Nature in Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale Essay
Art and Nature in Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale
In Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale , we see a jealous king convinced he is search of the truth. He
will expose his wife and her alleged philandering, but his determination to prove this actually
changes this search from one for truth to one for myths creations, false truths. In essence. Leontes
runs into the conflict of defining art versus nature, where art is the view of the world he constructs
to prove his paranoia true. Nature itself can exist without art, but the art here is the mangled
perception through which Leontes will seek to define Nature. In summation, The Winter s Tale

In other words, the assumed unfaithfulness of his wife, will wreak havoc, like a galactic body.
This is a bizarre comparison a wife and her alleged infidelity to a planet in outer space that will
destruct in the name of vengeance. As bizarre as it is, it accomplishes the task of enhancing the
dichotomy of what is real and what is a fabrication of imagination. Art, in The Winter s Tale is
not merely expression but creation over nature. As his paints a dramatically depressed view of
reality, it becomes clear how his perception of what is actually in nature has been heinously
corrupted because of a search for truth predicated on validating flippant worries. He carries on:
To mingle friendship far is mingling bloods. I have tremor cordis on me. My heart dances, but
not for joy, not joy. , showing the extent to which he cannot see the truth what is actually present
in nature, but also how manically crazed he is. For example, Leontes seems to think nothing is
odd about calling his son into speak to him, and merely asking, Mamillius, art thou my boy? . His
tone here is light, and conveys this idea that not only is what he asking logical and understandable
but normal. It speaks volumes to art s influence on Leontes to make him so selfish and wrapped up
in his own desperate story.

Injury to the glomerulus and the tubules presents the onset of Intra renal failure (Matzke, 2011).
Some of the frequent causes for Intra renal failure are glomerulonephritis; pyelonephritis; and
tubular injury. Post renal failure develops from things like ureteroliths, tumors, or anatomic
impediments. Opposite of the acute form, the chronic form has a slow onset that has no early stage
symptoms. It is important to know that following an acute episode a chronic renal episode often
follows, and at this juncture the damage is irreversible. Glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis
combined, has been reported to be the forerunner in as much as half the cases from acute to chronic
renal failure. Diabetes mellitus, renal vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension,
polycystic kidney disease, drug damage, and nephrolith are all examples of other causes of
CKD (Pradeep, 2014). Biopsies of kidneys that suffered with CKD reveal smaller kidneys with
scarring on the tubules. Causes of kidney disease are wide ranging in number; however diabetes,
high blood pressure, inherited disease, and infection remain to be the contenders of cause
(Davidson, 2011). Acute kidney disease can be identified by anuria and oedema. CKD is often
called a silent killer, because instead of a sign, that would render immediate evidence, CKD only
provides symptoms that many don t know to correlate to renal issues. The symptoms may also

Growing project complexity demands more efficient way to manage communication and

function such as automatic distribution and notification are crucial to enhance the productivity .
Agile project managementthat has been given as much attention in the recent years is in growing
popularity for the next decades. Slightly updated, agile project management would take a hybrid
form. Therefore, project team is willing to combine agile with a traditional principles of PM to
create personalized hybrids. As before, the central point of Project Management Offices (PMO)
attention remains the question of measurements the effectiveness and result of the project.
Previously, the main focus was on input factors (reduced time and cost), today the attention is
given to the output factor recipient or client. The new definition of project success is that project
can exceed its time and cost estimates so long as the clients determines that it is successful by
whatever criteria they use. Thus, the project value is determined by the recipient not by provider
(Ward, 2012 citied from O Sheedy, 2012).

Analysis Of C. S. Lewis Mere Christianity
C.S. Lewis s Mere Christianity, an influential composition of Biblical opinion, promotes the
Gospel first through live broadcasts during World War II and now as a major premise in
theological discussions. It was Friday, September 1st, 1939 when the course of the war changed
drastically for Great Britain. James Welch, the Director of Religious Broadcasting at the British
Broadcasting Company was interrupted during The Daily Service with a note that pensively stated,
Germany invaded Poland early this morning (Phillips 1). As the months dragged eternally on, the
radio waves carried with them increasingly tragic news, degrading what was left of Britain s
morale. Welch stated, In a time of uncertainty and questioning it is the responsibility... Show more

Hence if I gave a series of talks, I shd mention Christianity only at the end, and would prefer not to
unmask my battery until then (C.S. Lewis, the BBC, and Mere Christianity). He wanted to ease
into the truth about religion and salvation by first evaluating human morality through a broadcast
discussion entitled, Right and Wrong: A Clue to the Meaning of the Universe (C.S. Lewis, the
BBC, and Mere Christianity). The idea that, just as all bodies are governed by the law of
gravitation and organisms by biological laws, so the creature called man also had his law,
described Lewis in the transposed talk of Mere Christianity. He went on to say, that a body
could not choose whether it obeyed the law of gravitation or not, but a man could choose either
to obey the law of Human Nature or to disobey it (Lewis 18). C.S. Lewis describes through these
early statements that morality is universal, for if it wasn t, the very war they were fighting
would not have a reason for its existence; Adolf Hitler would have been acting on his own view
of morality which simply differed from Great Britain s and the Ally forces . It is commonly
understood, however, that mankind has some sort of inherent idea of right and wrong that the Nazi
party was violating by drastic measures. In addition to these powerfully spoken opinions by this
Oxford don, Lewis did not want to enforce the viewpoint of a single Christian denomination, but
leave the decision of minor Christian beliefs to the individual. He states in Mere Christianity:
The reader should be warned that I offer no help to anyone who is hesitating between two Christian
denominations. You will not learn from me whether you ought to become an Anglican, a Methodist,
a Presbyterian, or a Roman Catholic. This omission is intentional...I am a very ordinary layman of

Transportation And Warehouse Management Essay
Transportation and Warehouse Management
SUMMARY
The report is on how transportation and warehouse management plays a vital role in the supply
chain, different modes of transports that involve in the freight movement from one location to
another. The amount of time to deliver a product to customers will show the effect on company s
future, so the company has to follow some steps to have a better mode of transportation for less
cost and delivery time. The primary objective of this project is to show how the transportation and
warehouse management systems are used to overcome the problems that are faced in transportation
and storage quickly and some of the key elements in WMS and TMS.
Transportation management:
Globalization has increased the importance and role of transportation in supply chain management.
Transportation plays a vital role in increasing the Gross Domestic product. It involves the
movement of the manufactured product from one location to the another location or the customer
safely. Transportation plays a vital role in the supply chain because the probability of using the
produced product on the same site is almost negligible. Now, transportation is one of the primary
factors which can affect the economy of the company when it is not efficient, safe and reliable.
Delivering the products on time directly to the customers has been increasing significantly in these
recent years which can be accomplished only with transportation management, resulting

Global Warming Problem In The United States
The world is home to billions of people, living all across the globe. There are hundreds of countries
and they all have different problems. Yet there is one issue that is worldwide, which is global
warming. Global warming is a colossal problem to the United States and the world that threatens the
very existence of humankind; further action must be taken by the United States government in

Global warming is a worldwide epidemic that in large part is directly caused by human activities.
NASA defines global warming as the unusually rapid increase in Earth s average surface

The Invention Of An Innocent Device
An innocent device that started out just a decade ago as a simple entertainment gadget, the
camera phone has evolved into one of the most widely used item into the daily lives of all the
people of the world over. It is hard to imagine our daily activities that do not involve the use of
the camera on the back of the cellphone, a far cry from what its inventors had first envisioned it
was going to do. Together with social media, the outgrowth of common people reporting events of
their daily lives has become a major source of news and information with no sign of stopping.
Today it s hardly a secret that all news sources big or small depend on this camera wielding citizen
as a major source of information. Top news outlets rely on these citizens journalists with their

their saying goes, A picture is worth a thousand words , today these first pictures and videos have

It is inevitable that as camera phone devices become cheaper and wide spread, local people at the
scene of any incident pulling out their phone and take pictures and videos for whatever the reason
is only going to increase. Thus the question of whether it is safe for people taking the pictures put
them at risk and possibly put others at danger that may result in loss of life is of a serious concern.

What Are The Barriers Of Gender Equality
Today, the world is not doing as well as people would like: gender equality has yet to be
achieved, climate change is putting millions at risk, two hundred million people are unemployed,
and people are more stressed than ever. Trying to solve these world challenges, people are
working more and more hours, yet little progress is being made. The solution is rather simple:
work less.
Women around the world are under represented in the workforce, making up less than 20% of
CEO positions, and, in America, fewer than 20% of Congressional positions are filled by
women. Reasons for this lack of representation may be due to prejudice, but it is important to
recognize that women are viewed as the primary child caregiver in most families. For this
reason, many women take off work for several months after childbirth and are often thwarted
from higher positions because they take leave. If both males and females had shorter work
weeks, then both genders would be able to devote more time to child care, allowing women to
continue to work sooner and progress in their fields. In addition, studies have shown that men who
take paternity leave are more devoted to their families and are 50% more likely to help their wives
with domestic labor, such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Thus, the shorter work week would
lead to both equal representation in the work place and at home, subsequently, breaking the barriers
of gender inequality.
Shorter work weeks will not only benefit parents, but they

people to have regarding these companies. These arms manufacturers traffic in military grade

Wages were very low for the amount of work people were expected to do. People would only
make anywhere from $1.25 $1.50 for the entire 10 12 hour workday. Not only were these wages
extremely low, but employees often lived in expensive company housing which left barely any
money for the other necessities of life. Nobody was satisfied with the wages during this time
period but another struggle was the long hours. People worked 60 80 hour work weeks in the
hot overcrowded factories, only doing one monotonous job. Lastly, the boss was very distant
from the work crowd and there was little to no contact between the two groups. Also, the
workers were very controlled by the foreman. The doors were locked on all floors to prevent

during the late 1800 s everyone was overworked and underpaid and this led to many troubles as

Nirvana Nevermind Nevermind, the second studio album by Nirvana, was released on
September 24, 1991. Controversial frontman Kurt Cobain eschewed the Seattle grunge scene and
sought set Nirvana apart from its confines. Using such techniques as Pixies loud/quiet dynamic,
the album went on to be named number one on the Billboard s 100 in 1992. Partially due to the
popularity of the Smells Like Teen Spirit music video, which depicted mosh pits and an
alternative anti culture, the album went Diamond and sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
Ironically, Cobain s renouncement of popular music and culture only compelled mainstream
audiences to flock to Nirvana s sound. Pearl Jam 10 Pearl Jam s Ten (named after NBA player
Mookie Blaylock s jersey number) contained tracks dealing with macabre themes including
depression, suicide and loneliness. One of the bands considered part of the Seattle grunge
movement, Ten was homage to classic rock. The album eventually reached number two on the
Billboard charts and has been certified 13x platinum making it one of the best selling albums

in Saigon and includes compelling shots of the geographical features of Vietnam; jungles, cities and
beaches. Cronauer begins every report with the notorious Gooood morning, Vietnam! and
continues will jokes and upbeat music to make troops all over the country smile. He infuriates his

Sherman Alexie Analysis
Racism has always been an issue in America not just only towards Mexicans or African Americans,
but to Native Americans as well. Throughout history, Native Americans were treated as if they were
inanimate objects that they are beneath us, and even till this day many of them are still being
treated that way. The Native Americans have always been misunderstood what some Americans see
is redskins and not a genuine person no matter the raceor where they came from. No one else
knows more about being a Native American in a world of racism rather than Sherman Alexie
himself who has dealt with these issue s before. He argues not only his struggles, but also the
struggles of other Native Americans a taste of what its like to be in their shoes what they go
through almost every day of their life s. Sherman Alexie is a well known Native American poet,
novelist, performer, and filmmaker. According to Poetry Foundation, he is mostly famous for
his poems and short stories about the reservation life of a Native American, among them The
Business of Fancy Dancing (1992), The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven (1993),
which won a PEN/Hemingway Award, and Smoke Signals (1998), a movie based on Alexie s
short stories and even acted in his own work (Poetry Foundation). He also held the World
Heavyweight Poetry title for four years. Even till this day he continues to perform many of his
poems at poetry slams, festivals, and other places, which has received many praises for the energy

Comparing the Works of Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto
Family happiness is something that many today focus on as an absolute requirement for happy and
healthy growth in children. And indeed, it is right that this should be so. In reality, however,
challenges such as poverty and racism often affect the happiness that families might experience.
When comparing the works created by Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto, however, it becomes
clear that familyhappiness is not so much dependent upon wealth as it is upon freedom of
expression and freedom from fear. At first glance, the family in Rockwell s painting appears quite
happy, with the father and motherboth smiling at the sleepy children. The children also seem
peaceful and warm in their bed, and the room appears secure and solid against any elements that
might attack from outside. This is, however, where the sense of overprotection begins to reveal
itself. The overprotected nature of the children s life is revealed in several visual elements in the
painting. First, and most obvious, the mother leans over the children as she puts them to bed. The
father also stands close, looking down at them, with a fond smile on his face. While it is clear that
they love their children, the parents physical orientation towards their children can be said to hover.
Another interesting element in this regard is that the father accompanies the process of putting the
children to bed. He stands next to his wife as she works with the children. He does not help, but
gives the impression that his

Narrative Essay About My Best Vacation
It was Mexico three years ago. My dad s job was celebrating in Mexico and our family ( which is
my brother, mom, and Maria) could come with him. We went to this 5 star resort by the beach.
IT WAS AMAZING! There were so many pools and the hotel room was so fancy! The aqua blue
ocean was so warm, that it felt like there was a heater in the water. We went swimming multiple
times and I think i saw a whale jumping from the water. Everywhere I looked, there was
something new to see. Other than the fact that I got sunburned a lot, I thought that this was an
awesome vacation. We could even bring our nanny, Maria. We spent mornings eating breakfast
from the giant bufe and afternoons were spent swimming or finishing my rainbow loom
bracelet. The evening was for eating yummy dinner and facetiming with my friends. I was
exploding with joy. When my dad had free time from work, we were browsing around and we
saw a stand with a bunch of pamphlets. Dad and Mom said that we got to choose one activity to
do. We looked at caverns and zip lining but then I saw it. Dolphins! It said that you got to do
tricks and get your picture taken! I showed the flyer to my parents immediately. Mom! Dad!
Look! I squealed, racing to them. My brother, who wasn t a fan of water said, I wanna go too!
And then we were off. We took a shuttle to the place. I was so nervous! My heart was pounding.
I finally got to meet one of my favorite animals! When we arrived, a helper asked us to get on our
swim suits or

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
Catherynne M. Valente
1. What is the most interesting event in this book? I think the most riveting part of this book was
when September got to the Lonely Gaol and experienced all the events at the end. Most of the book
leads up to the end, and many things were confusing until then. In the end, everything connected
and made sense, and I love when that happens. The way September made the raft to sail across the
sea was amazing, and the people and things she met were fascinatingly creative. She figured out
that the Marquess was actually Good Queen Mallow by peeling away the plaque and seeing it read
Maud Elizabeth Smythe instead of September and then making the ties between Maud and the
Marquess. I thought that the ending was the most intriguing and spectacular part of the book.
2. What is the major problem in this book? September s journey in this book had many
hardships, but there were actually two that really stood out in my mind. One of the main
conflicts was September going to get the Marquess sword in return for Goodbye s spoon. This
was a main conflict because it was such a big problem for her; she encountered many trials to her
friends and her own self. The second main conflict, which was slightly more significant, came after
her first problem. This is where she has to rescue her Saturday, the Marid, Ell, the Wand, then deal
with the

Machiavelli And The Apology Of The Prince
Machiavelli writes The Prince centuries after Plato documents Socrates in Crito and The
Apology. Despite the different time periods, both Machiavelli and Socrates experience times of
turmoil where the concept of democracy was questioned. However, the different time periods
cause the views and purposes of Machiavelli s writing to largely differ from Socrates.
Machiavelli writes in a time of turmoil where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and
when the Medici s struggled to regain power after being expelled. This causes his views to be more
cynical and pessimistic in comparison to Socrates. If Socrates were to read The Prince, he would
disagree with Machiavelli s beliefs and deem his portrayal of a prince as immoral. Their... Show

Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does virtue come, but
from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human beings both privately and
publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna comes from virtue and presents a cause and
effect relationship, contrary to the interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A
prince should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass
success. Just having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the
prince is unable to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how
the ruler cannot start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s
prince because Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune.
However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in Socrates legacy.
Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the two and the unnecessity of
fortuna. Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has found his own philosophy in life, he is a
heavily respected figure today. He turned down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr ,
leading to an increased remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years
without fortuna. Although Socrates was not a ruler, he is one of the fathers of democracy, so he is
a figure that is

Have you ever had a friend whom you respected and looked up to? Luckily for me, I do have a
friend whom I respect and look up to. Her name is Shoumica. She is 16 years old and lives in
Ocean Township, New Jersey. I have known her for more than three years. During this time I
have come to realize that she possesses good qualities that I would like to write about. Shoumica

My definition of trustworthy is someone who is dependable, and that is what she is. Shoumica
never steals from me and that is why I trust her. Whenever I tell her something she gives me
guidance on how to deal with certain circumstances. When I have a situation, Shoumica is one
of the first persons to know about it. She also keeps our business between us and she does not
tell anyone. Shoumica s most outstanding characteristic that I like about her is her good sense
of humor. Whenever I am distraught, she has a unique way of making me laugh which helps me
to move along with my day. Even though her jokes are not funny sometimes, I still laugh
knowing that she tried. I call her when I am bored or feeling sad. She always talks to me and
cheers me up. Shoumica s sense of humor will even make the grumpiest person laugh. That is
why she is the best person to talk to when you need a good laugh. As you can see, Shoumica is an
amazing human being. She is like an older sister I never had. What I especially like about her is
that she is always looking out for me. She always wants what is best for me. We have a bond that
is unbreakable, and I am glad to have such a good influence in my life. She is my mentor, my

40 Kos Case Study
Shane Mosley (48 9 1, 40 KOs) seems to be experiencing a kind of nostalgic episode in his life as
the former three division world champion recently declared that he wants to fight arguably the
most popular but olden boxers of the moment: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48 0, 26 KOs), Manny
Pacquiao (57 6 2, 38 KOs), Miguel Cotto (40 4, 33 KOs), or Juan Manuel Marquez (56 7 1, 40
KOs), as reported by BoxingNews 24.
Merely hearing the names of these five great boxers felt like looking in a boxing museum, and
Mosley appears to be wanting to re live his glory days after the 43 year old s sixth round knockout
win over fellow aged fighter Ricardo Mayorga just last weekend.

Still, the California native would not concede that his best days are behind him.
I wanted to get in there and prove myself. I want to get a couple of fights and then I want to try
for the world title again, Mosley said, via Bleacher Report. I want to fight Mayweather and Manny
Pacquiao. I m on that level. I m still on that level.
The former welterweight and light middleweight lineal champion seemed to have copied the Pac
Man s injury excuse as he also claimed that he was injured when he fought Mayweather and
Pacquiao in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Mosley lost to both men via 12 round unanimous decisions.
Mosley is one of a handful of veteran boxers today who are attempting at a career comeback at a
very advanced age.
At age 46, former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. had just won his eighth straight
match with a knockout win over unheralded Eric Watkins early this month. He is scheduled to fight
again on September 12 against Briton Tony Moran.
Bernard Hopkins, 50, who last fought in November of last year, is also currently active and

Improve it so that the patient s comprehension of information conveyed in that process is higher
This question might seem very simple yet the answer is far from simple. In the first article

I could say the second article strengthen the findings of the first by demonstrating the finding in a
controlled study that has been proven to be effective. In addition, each of these studies shares a
similar message, but the method in which they go about demonstrating that message is very
different. The first uses a collection of previously testes interventions to analyze and conclude the
common findings of these interventions. Well the second research article is a study whose purpose
wasn t to demonstrate an effective improvement, but test a hypothesis to the level of consent people
of different races, ethnicities and genders give toward the use of their genetic sample. In a way it
was indirectly using the method that research article one state was best practices of informed
consent (Pg. 5). The article main agreement is in the method they used to get the highest level of
consent from the patients. They disagree in that articles have different objective and they claim
different result were the reason behind their findings. Article two includes trust as being a
contributing factor to their result, while article to claim that the enhanced consent forms are the
main contributes to getting high levels of consent. The article seems to mismatch in that the
participant they used are very different. The first article used data with no clue to who the
participants were and the second article uses participants with a drug history, which makes their
data very unreliable when compared to another study of healthy

Creon A Tragic Hero In Antigone
Antigone: a Tragic Hero In Sophocles play Antigone, there are two possible tragic heroes, Creon
and Antigone. A tragic hero is a character who is noble, has one or many unfixable flaws, and
experiences a downfall. While Creon could be considered, he is nowhere near as noble as
Antigone, who lives by the law of the gods and dies for the dignity of her brother. His disposition
is far from flawless, but he does not experience a downfall comparable to Antigone s death.
Antigone portrays all the components of a tragic hero; thus, she is the true tragic hero of Antigone.
Nobility is expressed through many facets of Antigone s personality. She does what she believes is
right, disregarding what Ismene tells her when first hearing of Antigone s plan

The Treatment Of A Nurse
As a nurse we are trained to take all the necessary steps to save lives. However, there are
situations that the people we are caring for tends to refuse treatment, and we have to respect their
decision. According to the HDC (Health and Disability Commissioner) Code of Health and
Disability Services Consumers Rights Regulation 2004, every citizen has the right to make an
informed choice and give informed consent. Services like medication can only be provided if the
consumer gives an informed consent. In regards to the situation I have experienced in the facility,
the patient has the right to refuse to take the Warfarin. Even if this poses a risk to his health the
members of the health care team has to respect his decision. I truly respect the decision of the
patient. I empathize with his decision not to take the Warfarin because it needed for the INR to be
monitored which causes discomfort in him since it was difficult to extract blood from him.
However, the Warfarin is a very important medicineneeded because of his medical condition.
Warfarin is used to prevent blood clots from forming or growing larger in your blood and blood
vessels. It is prescribed for people with certain types of irregular heartbeat, people with prosthetic
(replacement or mechanical) heart valves, and people who have suffered a heart attack. Warfarin is
also used to treat or prevent venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Warfarin is in a class of

Volcano, Volcanic Volcano And Volcanic Ash
A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a planetary mass object that allows lava, volcanic ash, and
gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface. The Earth s crust is made up of huge
slabs called plates, which fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. The friction caused by the plates moving
from time to time results in earthquakes and volcanic eruptions near the edges of the plates.
There are many different types of volcanoes. (Volcanoes: Principal Types of Volcanoes) The most
common are Cinder volcanoes. This type of volcano occurs when particles and blobs of solid lava
are emitted from a single vent in the center. As the gas charged lava is blown violently into the
air it breaks into small fragments that solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form an oval
cone. A good example of a cinder cone is the Paricutin Volcano in Mexico that grew out of a corn
field in 1943. The eruptions continued for 9 years and built the cone to a height of 424 meters.
Another type of volcano is the Composite volcanoes also known as Stratovolcano. These are
steep sided volcanoes composed of many layers of volcanic rocks, usually made from high
viscosity lava, ash and rock debris. Famous examples of composite cones are Mayon Volcano in
Philippines, Mount Fuji in Japan, and Mount Rainier in U.S.A.
Then we have, shield volcanoes that are shaped like a warrior s shield in the middle with long
gentle slopes made by basaltic lava flows. This is very fluid lava, usually from multiple vents

  • 2. Theme Of Death In A Clean Well Lighted Place By Ernest... Ernest Hemingway was one of the most prolific writers of the Lost Generation, of men who lived through the horrors of World War One. Death played an important role in shaping both his young and adult life and was a seemingly unavoidable to many of the people closest to him. Hemingway s life was drastically altered by the outbreak of WWI, which was one of the greatest influences on the works he would later produce. There, he met his first wife, which marked the beginning of several troubled and unhappy marriages. His father committed suicidearound this time, the first of many suicides of the people nearest to Hemingway which would plague him for the rest of his life. The war remained a driving force in Hemingway s life long after its finish.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their dispute arise, as the man wishes for the child to be aborted as so that they can be unrestrained and continue to live their lives in the manner that it was lived, while the woman wishes to keep the child in order to settle down and live a fulfilling life (Holladay [EBSCO]). Much like the previous short story, Hills Like White Elephants tackles the concept of finding fulfillment in the meaningless suffering that is life to Hemingway. The man wishes to lead a life filled with instant and spontaneous gratitude, that being traveling across the world or drinking, while the woman wishes to things that are satiating and fulfilling in the long term, like settling down and raising a family. This leads into the existentialism that is so paramount to Hemingway s worldview. The man, therefore, represents humanity in the modern age as he does not live honestly and seeks only what rewards him instantly rather than something that benefits him greater in the long term. Rather than focus and work towards something truly beneficial, humanity fights to be unrestrained and minimally responsible for their actions, choosing to devote themselves to simple pleasures and vices rather than honest and bountiful rewards. The couple is described to be in a bar located in a rather barren, lifeless area ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Necklace, By Guy De Maupassant In Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, readers experience Mathilde Loisel s life changing event. Coming from nobility, de Maupassant tells the story of luxurious desire through the eyes of the middle class woman Mathilde. Mathilde constantly dreams of living the life of the upper class, and this prohibits her from acting in reality. Mathilde s internal struggle for a sense of social royalty shows readers how quickly selfish pride destroys a person s life. Throughout the course of The Necklace, Mathilde changes from an arrogant and prideful housewife to a modest and humble companion. At the beginning of the story, Mathilde is portrayed as a bitter woman who thinks she is entitled to a more luxurious life. While eating dinner, Mathilde thinks to herself: She had no dresses, no jewels, nothing. And she loved nothing but that; she felt made for that. She would so have liked to please, to be envied, to be charming, to be sought after (68). In this instance, Mathilde cannot focus on what she is currently involved in because she is so obsessed with living a higher life. The reader infers that the consumables of the upper class is consuming her thoughts. One evening, after sulking to herself, as usual, her husband comes home with an invitation to a party which she reacts to questionably: Instead of being delighted, as her husband hoped, she threw the invitation on the table with disdain, murmuring: What do you want me to do with that (69)? As the readers sees, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Evolution Of The Female Professional Statistics Evolution is something that has occurred since the beginning of time and as the decades go on, evolution continues to occur throughout various aspects of life. One of these prominent spectrums is the work place. While women have not always blossomed in the business world, the female professional statistics have begun and continued to increase as time has. Although there is more genderequality amongst several companies, the numbers aren t necessarily where they should be. According to an article by Warner, women make up 50.8% of the population, only 14.6% of those women hold executive positions in the workplace. Even less are top earners and less than 5% are Fortune 500CEO s. The numbers continue to drop for women of color as only 11.9% hold positions at the manager level (Warner, 2014). And according to the article by Kranc (2014), ...although women make up 19 percent of director positions within the S P 100, they represent only 8 percent of the highest paid executives (Kranc, 2014). These numbers provided by Warner are proof that there are still problems regarding the growth of women in the corporate world, especially when the women are of a minority background. Fortunately, as will be discussed in this assignment, this gender gap is beginning to close as women are standing their ground and fighting for the positions and pay that they deserve. Case Summaries In September 2015, Microsoft faced a lawsuit for gender discrimination. The case was focused on the gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Windshield Survey Report For our windshield survey we decided to assess the city of Melbourne on a Friday afternoon, the day after summer vacation began. It was a nice sunny yet breezy afternoon, the children and some of their families were outside walking the streets, sitting on the porch and playing in the park. While assessing the cityI noticed that the area was a low income community and consist of apartments as well as homes that are in need of cosmetic work. In the neighborhood that I assessed, I noticed that there is one park which has minimal lighting as well as upkeep. The park resides in a big area right across from one of the local churches in the neighborhood. Near the area you also have the local library which is free to the community. They also had community worship centers which took place inside of apartment complexes. These local worship centers advertised on the board of the school library as well as on the windows of some of the local convenient stores. Some of the churches in the neighborhood also aid in reaching out to the families who are in need of food. They have certain hours that they are open to where families can come in and obtain food for free for their families. It is on a first come first serve basis and there is a limit. • 7. Economic Globalization Is The Growing Integration Of World... Economic globalization is the growing integration of world markets and the intensifying interdependence of global economies. The process has social and economic costs as well as benefits. The process is both critiqued and lauded by scholars. On one hand it provides opportunities and growth while on the other hand it creates an unequal distribution of wealth also while hurting workers rights. At the conclusion of World War II, Harry White and John Maynard Keynes aimed to create a financial strategy to liberate the world economy from the extensive restrictions and controls levied during the war. At the Bretton Woods conference, they provided proposals which strengthened American economic hegemony (Rodrik). This happened because both White and Keynes recognized that domestic economic needs outranked global economics (Rodrik). The goal of the Bretton Woods conference was to stimulate moderate economic globalization. Dani Rodrik praises the unification of global markets and trade liberalization after the Bretton Woods conference. He especially lauds Keynesian globalization, which gives states discretion in trade policy and regulation. According to Rodrik, the Bretton Woods conference was successful in fostering economic trade after years of war and rivalry. However, he does critique trade liberalization and multilateral international institutions that emerged out of Bretton Woods, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade ... • 8. Analysis Of The Novel The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls Many people do not know what it is like growing up in poverty or having real hardships. In the novel The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Walls never knew how she would get her next meal. Whether it was actually bought by her parents or fished out of the trash, she always adapted , lived on and survived. Walls communicated through her book, the message strength is gained from overcoming the obstacles life puts in front of you using descriptions, symbolism, character s actions and personification, To begin, through the description and symbolization of the Joshua tree, Walls depicts her message. Walls description of the tree was that it was, scraggly and freakish, permanently stuck in its twisted, tortured position (35). Through this quote the reader has an understanding of how because of the natural elements, such as wind and rain, the tree becomes a deformed more flawed version of itself. Her mother, however, believes that, It s the Joshua tree s struggle that gives it its beauty (38). This description combined with Walls makes the Joshua tree a symbol for Walls herself. She is a mentally and physically scarred human being. The tree is stronger than the wind and instead of being uprooted, it adapts to what the earth sends to. Similarly, Walls adapts to what life send to her, opposed to giving up. Her adversities created her imperfections, which makes her strong. • 9. Amy Tan s Rules Of The Game This short story, Rules of the Game by Amy Tan, describes the protagonist, eight year old Waverly Jong, otherwise named Meimei, learning the lesson of silence from her mother, Mrs. Jong, as the art of invisible strength . Tan writes, the lesson was a tactic for winning arguments and attaining respect from others . Having lived in San Francisco s Chinatown, on Waverly Place, Meimei and her two elder brothers, Vincent and Winston took in the everyday rackets, marvels and scents of Chinatown. They also took in the constant badgering of their mother imparting her daily truths as Chinese ways of conduct (Vu ya chung). The theme of the struggle of control became much more evident as Waverly realized how to trick her mother to regain power over Mrs. Jong and to do as she pleased. Another example demonstrating this theme, was Mrs. Jong s inability to allow her daughter to use the techniques Waverly chose in playing chess. After a chess tournament won by Waverly, Mrs. Jong gave no sign of approval and said, ...Next time win more and lose less regarding the chess pieces Waverly took from her opponent. Waverly did try to explain to her mother that part of the game was losing pieces to get ahead ; her mother, although, did not accept that. Mrs. Jong hardly comprehended the rules of chess, but she nevertheless wanted to prove to her daughter that she was still fully in control and had all the power to tell Waverly how she should play the game. • 10. Wood Thrush The data from the harvested stand and unharvested stand shows that wood thrush would likely be able to find a suitable breeding, nesting, and foraging habitat in this section of the Vermont National Forest (Table 1), particularly in the unharvested stand, though improved management practices could make the harvested stand more suitable. Wood thrushcommonly hide their nests under leaves in a shady area in the midstory level, so it is important to have vertically and horizontally diverse stands (Hagenbauch et al. 2011 a). The unharvested stand provides higher quality nesting and breeding areas due to the higher density of stems in the midstory and canopy and greater canopy closer (Table 1). Results are expected to vary due to site characteristics and management histories (Hoover et al. 2012), and in this case, invasive species and harvesting in the past century could have contributed to our estimate being lower than the regional estimate of 116 Mg C/ha. Invasive species can affect forest health, regeneration, and forest structure, so invasive species could have crowded out live trees, decreasing the above ground live tree carbon pool. The unharvested stand has not been cut in the past three decades so this factor should not affect the above ground carbon pool significantly, though it has likely been harvested more than the old growth forest stands sampled in Hoover et al. (2012) because there was no evidence of harvesting in those stands. Species composition of the unharvested stand could have contributed to our estimate for the above ground live tree carbon pool being slightly higher than the estimate from Smith et al. (2004). Our unharvested stand was mainly made up of sugar maple and beech trees (Figure 2.), and these two species contain more carbon than birch (Jenkins et al. 2003). • 11. How Did Malcolm X Affect The Civil Right Movement Malcolm X and the Black Panthers both the profoundly affected the goals of the civil right movement. Malcolm X was born on May 19th, 1925 in Omaha Nebraska. Earl Little, (Malcolm s father) was an outspoken Baptist minister and an avid supporter of the Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. Malcom graduated at the top of his class however when a teacher told him that his dream of becoming a lawyer was no realistic goal for a nigger (Genius, 2016), these words greatly impacted him and caused him to leave school. Malcom s journey that caused him to affect the civil right movement were motivated by his unprivileged past, as he had been involved in various crimes and directed by misleading guidance, none the less moulding him into an influential figure. Similarly, in October 1966, in Oakland California, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Partyfor Self Defense. The Panthers practiced militant self defense of minority communities against the U.S government, and fought to establish revolutionary socialism through mass organizing and community based programs. The party was on the first organizations un U.S history to militantly struggle for ethnic minority and work class emancipation. • 12. Legalization of All Drugs Legalize Drugs! I know what you re thinking, are you crazy! The debate over the legalization of drugs continues to disturb the American public. Such an issue stirs up moral and religious beliefs, beliefs that are contrary to what Americans should believe. I ask all of you to please keep an open mind and hear me out on this very controversial subject. All of us have in some way or another been affected by drug, whether it is a family member or the economic burden on society. Americans often take at face value the assumptions that drugs cause addiction, which leads to crime. This is true but abundant evidence exists to support the view that legalizing illicit drugs can help solve the drug problem in America. There is not a way to stop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The day after legalization, the honest kids will have the last laugh. The pushers will be out of a job, unemployed. What could be done is instead of giving the pusher the profit; we can put the money into the hands of the government. Let the government put it into education for drugs or in to well needed social programs. The government would increase revenue in many ways. The first way would be that the majority of inmates are drug offenders; an inmate costs the government approximately 20,000 (Fedral burea of proison facts, internet). There would be a lot of money being saved by the government, there would be no more Drug Enforcement Agencies, which cost the government a lot of money to train, but also the equipment and wages, not to mention the state and local departments. There would be no more lives wasted on trying to fight the drug war. One might ask if drugs were legalized, would that lead to more addicts? There is a chance, especially at first. Though some say it would be like the forbidden fruit theory, if it were legal it would take the thrill out of getting them, so that could discourage drug use. But it is important to understand that we have so many addicts today because pushers are doing their jobs quite well: pushing drugs on people who otherwise would not likely use them. • 14. Analysis Of The Brothers K THE BROTHERS K By David James Duncan. 645 pp. New York: Doubleday. THE 19th century Russian novel has been born again in The Brothers K, David James Duncan s wildly excessive, flamboyantly sentimental, tear jerking, thigh slapping homage to Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy and the game of baseball. For the title isn t merely a spin on The Brothers Karamazov, though Mr. Duncan makes frequent references to that heavy tome. K, we are reminded, is also the baseball scorecard symbol for striking out and thus, as Mr. Duncan extrapolates it, for failing, flunking, pratfalling, making a bad situation even worse. But it can have a positive side as well. To lose your very self for the sake of another, he adds, is . . . the only way you re ever going to save it. The strikeout kids are the brothers Chance, four boys of the baby boom generation born to Hugh Chance, a worldly wise and weary fastball slinging minor league pitcher, and Laura, Hugh s staunchly conservative Seventh day Adventist wife. Kincaid, the novel s principal narrator; his brothers, Everett, Irwin and Peter, and their twin sisters, Beatrice and Winifred, grow up in Camas, Wash., a working class town where Hugh supplements his meager baseball salary by working at the local paper mill. Everyone believes that Papa Chance is destined for the big leagues until an accident at the mill crushes the thumb on his pitching hand. Laura declares that this, like all tragedies, is God s will, and that nothing can be done to make it better. The family settles for a life of noisy desperation until a foulmouthed surgeon offers to repair the injured thumb with bones from Papa s toe. Thus Hugh Chance is reborn as his team s pitching coach and stupid situation reliever, known, of course, as Papa Toe. For a while, the national pastime, seen on television and from rump punishing bleachers far from the bright lights of the major leagues, becomes a complex metaphor for all that Papa Chance and his sons hold sacred. Everett, the eldest, even goes so far as to mark the beginning of the turbulent 60 s not with the Kennedy assassination or the arrival of the Beatles but with the day Roger Maris became the assassin of a legend, hitting 61 home runs and breaking Babe ... It is the women who direct the course of events and unconsciously determine the fate of men and their generations to follow. The women are the true leaders of the Epic. • 18. The Causes Of The Japanese Internment Of WWII The Japanese internment of WWII was one of the biggest cases of racial prejudice America has ever committed. During a time when Italian and German Americans were a much bigger threat to our nation s security, we deliberately alienated Japanese citizens in our society. Not only did we restrict the freedoms of American born citizens for three years, but we have also caused long term, irreparable damage to the Japanese people, and their society. While internment may have decreased the odds of Japanese spies in our military and mob violence it is no excuse for the atrocity we put our own citizens through. American citizens, who are granted the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness, were robbed of these very rights our country was founded on. Internment camps were often in the middle of nowhere, and in very disatifactory condition for all residing in them. After internment many people, since they could not pay their mortgage loans, lost their homes and life savings causing widespread poverty. These and many other factors are why internment during WWII was unjust and motivated by racial prejudice, not national security. While Japanese internment may have isolated a small amount of Japanese spies, it was unjustified considering that the majority of people interned where innocent. According to government officials at the time, Japanese American citizens posed no threat to the West coast. Curtis B Munson said in the Muson Report that, There is no Japanese problem ... The invention of plastic gave us the ability to produce materials that cannot be made from natural substances alone. Polyethylene s first discovery was actually made on accident. In 1899, Hans von Pechmann discovered polyethylene at the bottom of a test tube in his laboratory (Sharp 18). Weird Melancholy in Henry Lawson s The Bush Undertaker and Peter Weir s Picnic at Hanging Rock In 1876, in his preface to Adam Lindsay Gordon s Poems, novelist Marcus Clarke coined the phrase Weird Melancholy in reference to what he perceived to be the dominant note of his country s landscape and his subject s verse. In doing so, he distilled the entire mood of Australian Gothic into one eerie essence, an essence present, to varying extents, in all texts of that genre. He wanted to ease into the truth about religion and salvation by first evaluating human morality through a broadcast discussion entitled, Right and Wrong: A Clue to the Meaning of the Universe (C.S. Lewis, the BBC, and Mere Christianity). The idea that, just as all bodies are governed by the law of gravitation and organisms by biological laws, so the creature called man also had his law, described Lewis in the transposed talk of Mere Christianity. He went on to say, that a body could not choose whether it obeyed the law of gravitation or not, but a man could choose either to obey the law of Human Nature or to disobey it (Lewis 18). C.S. Lewis describes through these early statements that morality is universal, for if it wasn t, the very war they were fighting would not have a reason for its existence; Adolf Hitler would have been acting on his own view of morality which simply differed from Great Britain s and the Ally forces . • 31. What Are The Barriers Of Gender Equality Today, the world is not doing as well as people would like: gender equality has yet to be achieved, climate change is putting millions at risk, two hundred million people are unemployed, and people are more stressed than ever. Trying to solve these world challenges, people are working more and more hours, yet little progress is being made. The solution is rather simple: work less. Women around the world are under represented in the workforce, making up less than 20% of CEO positions, and, in America, fewer than 20% of Congressional positions are filled by women. Reasons for this lack of representation may be due to prejudice, but it is important to recognize that women are viewed as the primary child caregiver in most families. For this reason, many women take off work for several months after childbirth and are often thwarted from higher positions because they take leave. If both males and females had shorter work weeks, then both genders would be able to devote more time to child care, allowing women to continue to work sooner and progress in their fields. In addition, studies have shown that men who take paternity leave are more devoted to their families and are 50% more likely to help their wives with domestic labor, such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Thus, the shorter work week would lead to both equal representation in the work place and at home, subsequently, breaking the barriers of gender inequality. This is yet another complicated issue, but to sum it up briefly the South China Sea (known as the East Sea in Vietnam, and the West Sea in the Philippines) is contested, predictability, by China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and other Asian countries. Nobody was satisfied with the wages during this time period but another struggle was the long hours. And indeed, it is right that this should be so. In reality, however, challenges such as poverty and racism often affect the happiness that families might experience. When comparing the works created by Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto, however, it becomes clear that familyhappiness is not so much dependent upon wealth as it is upon freedom of expression and freedom from fear. At first glance, the family in Rockwell s painting appears quite happy, with the father and motherboth smiling at the sleepy children. The children also seem peaceful and warm in their bed, and the room appears secure and solid against any elements that might attack from outside. This is, however, where the sense of overprotection begins to reveal itself. The overprotected nature of the children s life is revealed in several visual elements in the painting. First, and most obvious, the mother leans over the children as she puts them to bed. The father also stands close, looking down at them, with a fond smile on his face. While it is clear that they love their children, the parents physical orientation towards their children can be said to hover. Another interesting element in this regard is that the father accompanies the process of putting the children to bed. He stands next to his wife as she works with the children. He does not help, but gives the impression that his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the book leads up to the end, and many things were confusing until then. In the end, everything connected and made sense, and I love when that happens. The way September made the raft to sail across the sea was amazing, and the people and things she met were fascinatingly creative. She figured out that the Marquess was actually Good Queen Mallow by peeling away the plaque and seeing it read Maud Elizabeth Smythe instead of September and then making the ties between Maud and the Marquess. I thought that the ending was the most intriguing and spectacular part of the book. 2. What is the major problem in this book? One of the main conflicts was September going to get the Marquess sword in return for Goodbye s spoon. Machiavelli writes in a time of turmoil where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and when the Medici s struggled to regain power after being expelled. Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does virtue come, but from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human beings both privately and publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna comes from virtue and presents a cause and effect relationship, contrary to the interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A prince should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success. Just having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the prince is unable to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how the ruler cannot start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune. However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in Socrates legacy. Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the two and the unnecessity of fortuna. Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has found his own philosophy in life, he is a heavily respected figure today. He turned down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr , leading to an increased remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years without fortuna. • 51. Volcano, Volcanic Volcano And Volcanic Ash A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a planetary mass object that allows lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface. The Earth s crust is made up of huge slabs called plates, which fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. The friction caused by the plates moving from time to time results in earthquakes and volcanic eruptions near the edges of the plates. There are many different types of volcanoes. (Volcanoes: Principal Types of Volcanoes) The most common are Cinder volcanoes. This type of volcano occurs when particles and blobs of solid lava are emitted from a single vent in the center. As the gas charged lava is blown violently into the air it breaks into small fragments that solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form an oval cone. A good example of a cinder cone is the Paricutin Volcano in Mexico that grew out of a corn field in 1943. The eruptions continued for 9 years and built the cone to a height of 424 meters. Another type of volcano is the Composite volcanoes also known as Stratovolcano. These are steep sided volcanoes composed of many layers of volcanic rocks, usually made from high viscosity lava, ash and rock debris. Famous examples of composite cones are Mayon Volcano in Philippines, Mount Fuji in Japan, and Mount Rainier in U.S.A.
