The Technology Implementation Plan
Technology Implementation
Introduction
When deploying new products into an organization that contain elements you do no have
experience with, like new technology, considered the human factors in the implementation process
to reduce issues that may arise. When implementing new technology within a company, make sure
that end users contribute into the design process and that the end user will benefit from the change.
Managers should communicate constantly and effectively, involve employees, and leadership to
endorse the technology and the change process.

Unexpected changes may be disruptive, and leadership may encounter resistance. To manage
technology changes the first step is to understand technology dynamics, and resistance it generates.
According to Regan and O Conner (2002), managing organizational changes requires understanding
the variables and their interdependencies; creating a climate for learning; recognizing new power
distributions and handling complexity, ambiguity, and uncertainty. Of course, technology changes
take a toll on the employee s morale and managerial time and emotion. Sometimes plans are
abandoned because of strong employee resistance or because the managers feel unprepared or
unable to implement the changes successfully. (Chapter 11.2.2 Technology Brings Change).
e. Communication plans
First in order for the goals and objectives of the communications plans to succeed, It is very
important that staff involved in this plan are aware of the leaderships support and direction. In
addition, leader s needed to speak positively about the project, and the process changes involved the
staff should expect. Management needs to speak honestly and listen to all levels of the
organization. Secondly, if the organization and its leadership did not adhere to changes proposed
by staff involved, resistance is likely to occur. However, if staff involved were consulted,
participant s acceptance is more likely. Finally, it is important to

The Evolution Of Allergies On Homo Sapiens
Sarah Husted

The evolution of allergies in Homo sapiens
As of 2008, approximately 25% of people in the developed world suffer from allergic disorders
(Galli, Tsai, Piliponsky, 2008). These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay
fever, asthma, eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as
allergic disorders. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is
even higher than in the general population with 40 50% of children susceptible to one or more type
of allergy (Pawankar et al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the
developed world for over 50 years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can
often take years to find a completely effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can
severely disrupt everyday life. With so many suffering from allergies it is no surprise that this area
of health has been thoroughly studied. Interestingly enough though, while we do know what
happens in the human body during an allergy attack there is still debate as to why we as humans
evolved allergic disorders in the first place.
On a biological level, when an allergen enters your system it triggers a Type 2 immune response
(Pulendran, Artis, 2012). Th2 cells and IgE antibodies control this type of immune response as
opposed to the Th1 and IgM, IgA and IgG used a Type 1 immune response (Palm, Rosenstein,
Medzhitov, 2012). Type 2 immune response is

Poppy Flower In The Great Gatsby
The delicate beauty of a flower has been recognized by every generation, starting at even the
beginning of time and prevailing during even the grimmest of situations. In 1920, two years after
the end of WWI, a now hailed woman by the name of Moina Michael began a tradition that
would last for years to come. She, like so many others, had been deeply affected by the war and,
inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields, proposed presenting the poppyfloweras a symbol of
remembrance of those who had given their lives to the war. This small proposal led to the poppy
flower being worn every Armistice day. It became a tribute to those who were strong enough to
fight and die for their country, and those who fought to right the flaws and weaknesses of... Show

Wilson is one of the smallest yet most important people in all of The Great Gatsby. He is
claimed by his wife, Myrtle, to be a dirty little coward, which is most likely one of the reasons
she leaves him in the dust behind her (137). This statement establishes the fact that Wilson has a
weakness of living almost in fear. However, this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful,
silver dog collar. After finding it, he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a
lover. Due to this realization, he locks Myrtle in her room and plans to move West, proving that
he had more strength than she had anticipated. However, he does not have the emotional strength
to follow through with it, and in a fit of hysteria, Myrtle runs into the road and is instantly killed
after being run over by a car. He was so fearful of her that he did not stop her, and so ignorant that
he did not realize his situation until death came knocking at his door. As it is gracefully put by
Tom, He s so dumb he doesn t know he s alive (26). After Myrtle s death, something changes
inside of him, something snaps, and it is best explained through the words of one of Wilson s
neighbors, Michaelis: He was his wife s man, not his own (137). After placing so much into
Myrtle and allowing himself to be completely taken over by her, her death caused him to lose a
sense of identity

Re:Demand Response Programs for MISO and ERCOT
Introduction
This memo provides details on behind the meter generation (BTMG), and demand response
program for Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and Electric Reliability Council
of Texas (ERCOT). Demand response is the change in electric usage by the end user from their
normal consumption patterns in response to changes in the price of electricity over time, or to
incentive payments designed to induce lower electricity use at times of high wholesale market
prices or when system reliability is at risk . Demand response can be provided by either by
continuously controllable loads or with BTMG. A market participant is compensated by
Independent System Operator s (ISO s) for providing demand response. The following information
gives details on the demand response program categories and behind the meter (BTM) generators
participating in these programs.
MISO
MISO manages a multi state region with an annual peak load of 105,000 MW. It designs and
implements wholesale markets for the Midwest region and produces an annual system planning
report. MISO issues a document on demand response entitled, Business Practices Manual: Demand
Response. This document provides with the information needed to understand the purpose and
application of Demand Response within MISO region. MISO has three demand response programs

Intent vs. Perception. Antoinette Mayer worked for DigiSys, a multimillion dollar technology

Strong, her boss, became very friendly in an awkward way with Mayer one day where his

got warmer towards Mayer; seemed to encounter her more in the company cafeteria and requested
more of her time under the pretense of gathering updates. After many encounters like this, she
decided to do something about it so she went to the Human Resources vice president for assistance.

Self And Place In Waiting For The Barbarians
In this thesis, the goal is to examine how the sense of Self and Place is portrayed and influenced
by colonialism, in two postcolonial fictional South African novels; J.M. Coetzee s Waiting for
the Barbarians and Nadine Gordimer s Burger s Daughter. Both authors have won the Nobel
Prize for Literature, in 1991 Gordimer was the first South African author to receive this Prize,
and Coetzee joined her in 2003. First of all, Coetzee s novel Waiting for the Barbarians offers the
story of the Magistrate going through a crisis of conscience in a complicated place, however the
Magistrate serves as a parallel for all human beings living under regimes that disregard lawfulness
and respectable behaviour. Secondly, Gordimer s novel Burger s Daughter materialized... Show

It was Nelson Mandela himself who said on the 3rd of July 1999: The experience of others has
taught us that nations that do not deal with the past are haunted by it for generations we should
forgive but not forget (O Reilly 46). Furthermore, it will be quite interesting and stimulating to
explore these issues from respectively Nadine Gordimer s female point of view, and J.M. Coetzee s
male point of view through their novels. Not to mention, that both the authors are critically of each
other s work. Actually, in 1988 Coetzee and Gordimer got caught in a disturbing public
disagreement regarding Salman Rushdie s invitation to speak about his controversial novel Satanic
Verses, for which the British Indian author received numerous threats to his life. Retrospectively,
Coetzee admitted that he was wrong and Gordimer, in her prudence, was right to argue that
Rushdie s invitation to speak in South Africa should be withdrawn. Therefore, it is my assumption
that examining as well as identifying the sense of Self and Place in the Nobel Laureates novels,
Waiting for the Barbarians and Burger s Daughter, will be an interesting and rewarding

Defense Of Mastery
My theme for Defense of Mastery is Life during WWII . I have chosen to do this theme because
it incorporates all of my core classes. I was going to create 2 models of Hiroshima before and
after the bomb was dropped by the U.S. But instead I decided to create a small documentary
about a woman who lived during WWII and experienced similar treatment than that of a Jew
while in Germany under Nazi control. I will be interviewing her personally and asking her
questions that relate to her life during the war. If I have time I will still try to create the model.
My theme connects easily to all my core classes. For my history class it will connect with World
War II, the effects of the war as well as the technology and economic boom it brought to the U.S.

Schizophrenia In The Fisher King
The Fisher King is a complex movie that follows a narcissistic radio host named Jack Lucas and
a homeless man named Parry. Throughout the movie, I frequently felt overwhelmed by the
complex nature of both Jack and Parry s behavior. Although their behaviors are very different,
both characters are complex individual s that are often tough to follow. The movie portrays Jack s
narcissistic personality disorder, as well as depression and illustrates the tolling effect depression
has on an individual, especially after feeling on top of the world. Additionally, the movie illustrates
Parry s PTSD and schizophrenia as an utterly chaotic, overwhelming and delusional existence.
Although some people with schizophrenia can live seemingly normal lives, the movie accurately
displays the overwhelming nature of schizophrenia for a person who is not only homeless and off
medication but has PTSD.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schizophrenia in itself seems to be tolling enough on an individual, but without medication or a
home, it seems like a near impossible illness to manage. In the article, To Be a Person with
Schizophrenia, the author illustrates the illness as, Imagine turning on five television sets, full
volume, tuned to five different channels and trying to follow the thread of one show. Additionally,
the author writes, I have trouble understanding and responding to people. I hear words, but they don
t make any sense. Although Parry s traits seem dramatized compared to these, the movie does an
excellent job at portraying the total confusion and disorientation a person with schizophrenia

The campaign will run on TV, in print and online, and over the course of the year it will appear

The concept was developed following worldwide consumer research which found that, while people
appreciate the value of international organizations and services, they question the prevailing one

Literary Comparison Between Wulf And Eadwacer
Wulf and Eadwacer is a poem of great mystery to scholars because of its unknown meaning and
where it is found in writing. It is one of the poems written within the Exeter Book. The Exeter
Book was written in about the tenth century and is filled with both historical poems and riddle
poems. Part of the mystery of the meaning of Wulf of Eadwacer comes from where it is placed
within the Exeter Book. The poem lies at the very end of the historical poems, which are poems
that focus on historic events and people, and at the very beginning of the riddle poems, which are
poems that were told with a hidden answer in order to pass the time. Because of this, scholars argue
over which section the poem belongs to and, with this, how to interpret the meaning. I believe...

Offered And Bewildered Summary
The text, Bothered and Bewildered by Katha Pollitt started from the statistical data about unwed
mothers and developed to the discussion of marriage and social discrimination between male and
female.
The author mentions the percentage who have become mothers without marrying has more than
doubled in the last decade, and public criticize the Feminism, promiscuity, the media, the 60 s for
this increase. However, the author asks us to consider if marriage no longer serves woman very
well. Historically, women wed men to gain money and stable social status, yet in the 1990s , during
which this article was wrote, women are getting the right to earn money themselves, thus they are
able to be independence from men. Furthermore, by revealing the feeble purpose beneath the
discussion about unwed mother by the public, asking woman to self sacrifice, the author shows us
that the best method in helping unwed mothers is treat two sexes equally so that they will both
have the ability to be independence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry
The studies discussed here that measured the constituents of latent fingerprints usually used gas
chromatography mass spectrometry (GC MS) to identify the specific chemical compounds
present in these prints and these results demonstrate the potential of GC MS to monitor the
ageing of fingerprints. Previous research in the above sections has shown that the composition of
fingerprint residues is too variable to allow any prediction about the age of fingerprints within
reasonable boundaries [Archer et al. 2005; Weyermann et al. 2010]. However, these papers
showed that a study into the relative amounts of intrinsic residue components may help towards
developing a reliable method for predicting the age of a fingerprint. GC MS is suitable not only
because of its sensitivity, but also because it is widely available and easy to use.
The GC MS is a chromatographic separation technique that is commonly used for the separation
and identification of volatile compounds [McMaster 2011]. It merges the features of gas
chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS) to separate using chromatography and identify
using mass spectroscopy different substances in a heterogeneous sample. This instruments is
suitable for a wide range of applications in the forensic sciences including fire and arson

Learning in Young Children
1.1 Analyse the differences between creative learning and creativity.
Creative learning is about how children are actively involved in their own learning, and their ability
to make choices and decisions. This can be achieved through providing a creative environment,
allowing exploration through play and praising creative efforts.
Creativity is about risk taking and making connections, allowing children to explore and express
themselves through a variety of media or materials including, dance, music, making things,
drawing, painting and make believe and to make new things emerge as a result. Being creative is

2.1 Demonstrate in own practice how to promote creativity and creative learning.
For example, during a cooking activity children are learning many skills through the creative
process. They may feel happy and excited about creating their own food. They are sociable by
working with adults to assist them and cooking for their friends or family members. By following
instructions either written or verbal and measuring quantities they are being allowed to develop
intellectually. Knowing when to ask for help and starting a dialogue around what they are doing
and using can help develop communication skills especially listening and taking direction. Finally
all the mixing, chopping, kneading and picking up small cut up pieces are physically developing
the fine motor skills, hand eye co ordination and building hand and arm muscles.
2.2 Explain why young children require extended and unhurried periods of time to develop their
creativity.
An unhurried period of creativity gives children time to explore and experiment with materials
and use them in their own way. It also allows children to do their best work by moving from
popular to more original ideas and being able to come back to it at a later date to finish.
3.1 Explain the feature of an environment that supports creativity and creative learning.
A creative environment needs to allow children easy access to different materials and be able to

Particularly women, begin to interpret these changes in a negative way. Some view themselves
as sexually unattractive. Men, on the other hand, don t seem to be as concerned about their
physical appearance, since society has placed much of the physical importance on the women.
This is a time where we need to accept these failings and move towards more important issues.
This is also a time when men and women become more health conscious. We all know of the
major diseases that cause premature deaths during middle adulthood, such as cancer and heart
disease. When you re a young adult, you don t think about these health issues as you would
during middle adulthood. There is more of a concern to take better care of our health, such as
heathy diets, cardiovascular activity, resistance training, and not smoking. We might be better
prepared for later adulthood, if we lead a healthy lifestyle. We start to realize our mortality. As
most people live to be about 85, we realize that at 40, we re almost half way there. nbsp; nbsp;

Essay On Soccer In America
When you travel to Madrid, Spain you look around and you see soccer, otherwise known as
futbol there, everywhere possible. On the day of a soccer game, the streets suddenly empty, the
stadiums fill, and people everywhere else sit by their televisions and root on their favorite
soccer club. As they cheer on their teams, they understand the game and get into the game like
one would do for football in America. When you travel 4500 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, it s
a whole different lifestyle. America s flip their TV on and scroll through the ESPN and sports
section and see nothing but basketball, baseball, football, and occasionally a hockey game. If you
are a fan of soccer though it s obvious, you aren t going to find anything on TV having to do with
it. Why must soccer be so overlooked in the United States? Why is the world s most popular sport
so cared about so little in America? If you are talking about sports in a normal American setting,
teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys, or Lakers will most usually come up. These are
obviously the most common sports teams in the US today, but why don t we hear about teams like
LA Galaxy, Real Madrid, or Manchester United? This is simply because soccer isn t respected in

Facilitating Better Scheduling of Smart Grid
I. INTRODUCTION A key objective of smart grid efforts is to substantially increase the
penetration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind. As per the Solar Mission under
the National Action Plan on Climate Change, the central government of India plans to generate up
to 20 GW grid based solar power, and cover 20 million square metres with solar energy collectors
by 2020[1]. However land acquisition is a challenge to solar farm projects in India, hence there is a
need to utilize residential roof tops for harvesting of solar energy. Substantial grid integration of
renewables is challenging, since their power generation is intermittent and uncontrollable. The
modern electric grid permits households to consume electricity in essentially arbitrary quantities at
any time, and is not currently designed for vast quantities of uncontrollable generation. Instead, the
grid constantly monitors the demand for electricity, and dispatches generators to satisfy demand as
it rises and falls. Fortunately, electricity demand is highly predictable when aggregating over
thousands of buildings and homes. As a result, today s grid is able to accurately plan in advance
which generators to dispatch, and when, to satisfy demand.
The challenge with substantial integration of renewable energy is that the electricity generated by
renewables is not easily predictable in advance and varies based on both weather conditions and
site specific conditions. For large scale solar farms producing

potentials, Dropbox is valued at over 4 billion dollars.
2. What were the negative results or failures of this strategy, if any?
The competition of cloud storage market is very intense, which makes Dropbox profitability less
sustainable. Consumers may turned into other giant vendor such as Google, Apple and Amazon.
Freemium Pricing and incentivize mechanism bring some negative influence on Dropbox.
Customer prefer to get more storage with recommend to friends and their friend will do the same
thing to get free upgrade by doing the same thing. This will increase Dropbox operation cost by
purchasing more servers and maintain them.
For venture capital investor, great volatility of future revenue means high risk. The value of
Dropbox may be overestimated. Low user conversion rate, loss of customers and make people

3. What was the strategy that Dropbox used for corporate/business customers? Describe this
strategy and its results.

General Zaroff In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell
In reality, some people stand out, some people do not. Whether or not they are noticed, everyone
is wrapped in many different layers of personalities. People have their own secrets and hobbies.
Not all of their personal activities are socially accepted and most people have their pastime in a
secluded area. General Zaroff from The Most Dangerous Gameby Richard Connell is an excellent
example. He is a dynamic and complex antagonist that dabbles in more than an unusual game. Mr.
Zaroff, the agile and experienced hunter, is cunning, well educated yet inhumane and irrational.
General Zaroff is brutal and inhumane mainly due to his abnormal version of hunting. For him, it is
less like hunting and more like a tropical murder spree; Hunting? Great Guns, Zaroff, what you
speak of is murder! (Page 6) as claimed by Rainsford when Zaroff explained his game . So,
General Zaroff kills humans for sport and entertainment. He is willing to slaughter everyone with
no discrimination and regardless of their race; ...I hunt the scum of the Earth: sailors from tramp

Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay
Explication of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
When reading The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, I found that it was personal, especially to
the author. The fact that it was written in first person form helped me to conclude that it was
probably about the author. I think the reasoning behind his writing of this poem was because in
life, you have many obstacles to overcome and many choices and decisions to make, which opens
a path that leads the way to your future. Since those things relate to Frost, I think it motivated him
to write this poem on a personal basis, like a short autobiography on his life. It motivated him
because he could then tell others about his life and give advice and guidance to the people that read
his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thing that always holds true though, is that the major issues people s lives are always
ironically similar to each other or, at least can relate to them in many ways. Therefore, I found that
this poem not only symbolizes or relates to the author, but it also symbolizes or holds true to
almost everybody s lives.
One of the major symbols within this poem is the roads. When he says Two roads diverged in a
yellow wood, he is using the roads to symbolize the paths, choices, and decisions that he has to
make in his life. Those decisions guide the way to his future, because when you come to a two way
street or road you have to decide or make a choice on which path to take. Also when he says And
sorry I could not travel both And be on traveler, he is telling us how he is insecure on which road
to take because he is unsure of what s ahead and would like to travel both roads to come up with
a conclusion or a decision on the correct road to take. So overall, what road basically symbolizes
in this poem is the options that he has in his life and the decisions that he has to make.
Another symbol in this poem is the many observations that he makes. When he says long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, he is using his
observations to symbolize the brainstorming, analyzing, and thinking you have to do before or
ahead of time when you are offered two options in your life and only one path to take.

Summary Of The Sociopath Next Door
Our conscience is the indicator into what we think and the actions that follow our thinking process.
It acts as a guide into different paths of behaviors, such as wrong and right. Sociopaths lack a
conscience, have a personality disorder, and act uncontrollably in extreme, and violent behaviors
when in encountered in unappealing situations. As 4% of people are sociopaths 1 in 25 people. (10)
Many sociopaths have the tendency to murder and harm others without feeling remorsefor their
actions. Martha Stout, the author of The Sociopath Next Door, really digs deep into the conscience
of sociopaths and their cycle of thinking through many studies. The novel starts out with giving a
reader a sense of having no conscience and what behaviors follow. Leading into the first chapter,
a business man on his way to a meeting realizes he forgot to feed his dog. Unfortunately, he has
an flight after the meeting and does not have time to complete all three tasks in order to make his
flight. The problem is his he will be gone for 36 hours and does not want to leave his dog without
food. He brainstorms on his drive to the meeting, trying to come with up a solution. Stout leads
into mentioning, if he goes back to feed the dog, he has a strong emotional bond with the dog and
cares for its well being. This is where the author bring ups history of conscience and pinpoints on the
negative thoughtthat leads to negative behaviors. She continues and brings up Freud s superego and

Explain why opposition to Russian Governments was so rarely successful in the period 1855
1954? Throughout the period 1855 to 1954, opposition to Russian governments was a common
occurrence due to dissatisfaction of many civilians lives and the lack of development seen
throughout Russia. However, as much as there were some successful movements throughout 1905
such as the Bolsheviks gaining support and eventually gaining power, there were also several
failed attempts due to intense use of violence, terror and censorship by the state. It is arguable that
whether opposition was successful, merely came down to the strength of the opposition group or

Reflection Of The Bean Trees
The Bean Trees Reflective Paragraph 1 Throughout the reading of The Bean Trees, by Barbara

Paradise Of The Blind
In Paradise of the Blind by DЖ°ЖЎng Thu HЖ°ЖЎng, the first person narrative point of view is
essential in contributing to the intimate feel of the of the novel, thus revealing Hang s open,
vulnerability. The narrative throughout the entirety of the novel is through the perspective of Hang
as she recollects various memories about her childhood and family history. The novel begins with
Hang on a train as she is traveling to visit her uncle Chihn. Within this narrative, Hang s memories
are framed as she switches back and forth between stories throughout the novel. This revolving of
stories mimics a human s natural train of thought in the way that it is like she is lost in thought and
then regains consciousness to the present for a short while. This narrative technique makes the first
person point of view more realistic with its sporadic pace, just as the brain has sporadic thoughts.

The Contribution Of Albert And Victoria s Popularity
At first Albert was not popular with the British public because he was a foreign prince; however

soared and enhanced because of their calm composure when they were the target of two

popular in the fact that Victoria was the first sovereign not to go to Parliament every time she

had already begun to make money for the Queen, investing in savings in land and on the stock
market that established the basis of the royal family s private fortune. By royal and even
aristocratic standards, Victoria and Albert s marriage was a very domestic one. In the daily life of

Misinformation Theory
The malleability of human memory is a widely debated and researched topic in recent psychology
due to our reliance on memory in almost every aspect of society, specifically in eyewitness
testimonies. If a witness testifies to their memory of an event, then how could they possibly get the
details wrong? Research shows that a large portion of human memoryis actually reconstructive
essentially, we unconsciously alter or attend to specific aspects of memory according to our
emotions, expectations and prior knowledge (Howe Knott, 2015). This theory is most apparent in
the psychological phenomenon referred to as the misinformation effect , the idea that introducing a

Reflective Introduction To Cinema
The larger majority of the Introduction to Cinema 2366 course was viewing films. Subsequently,
the films we viewed in the class have affected me in four gifts of the humanities. As a student, my
interests have developed around the social issues of classism and racism in America. Therefore,
the course has given me food for thought via films which tackle social issues causing me to rethink
the ways I understand these issues as well as understand filmrhetoric to gain a deeper knowledge
of how society understood these problems. Cinema also allows viewers to gain a sense of the
past, this is especially true of the course since the films we ve watched were opened 1959 or
before. In this way, I have been able to understand historical events (such as the dust bowl, the great
depression, and the red scare) through characters who are relatable, causing me to understand that
though time and geography may differ between me and these characters, there exist timeless
truths of humanity. The course has also allowed me to extend myself intellectually. Before
enrolling in this course, I had little knowledge about cinema and its place in our society. The
course has provided me with a new found appreciation for the art of film which is an important
subject in academia rather than just an elective. Lastly, I have realized the idea of the infinite

The Sacraments Portrayed In Les MisГ©rables
The Sacraments Portrayed in Les MisГ©rables God gives us unconditional forgiveness each day
even if we do not go to reconciliation to be forgiven of our sins. Forgiveness works both ways in
the eyes of God. In order to receive full mercy and forgives from God we need to go to
Reconciliation and properly be forgiven from our sins. Jean Valjean knew he had sinned and
turned away from God but he refused to go and be forgiven of his sins. God had given Jean

the beginning after all the life lessons he went through during his lifetime. Jean Valjean finally

Is Seagram A Long History Of Success From The Company And...
Definition of Project: Seagram has enjoyed a long history of success from its inception in 1924
with a single distillery in Canada to a world wise company. During this timeframe, global
recognition has afforded Seagram the opportunity to grow to 14,000 employees as well as
creatively diversify in a manner than many companies could not imagine. Unique purchases of oil
companies as well as what some might argue to be more logical partnerships like fruit juices such
as Dole Food Company, Inc. created continued accomplishments that would shore up the company
and create a secure future. In addition calculated investments with DuPont, MCA Inc., which
includes Universal Studios and them parks as well as electric companies build an impressive
portfolio for Seagram as well. We know that highly diversified organizations are more successful,
firms whose business units are highly related to each other, such as in a focused company, are
outperformed by those whose business units are moderately unrelated to each other (Graham, 2012,
p.14). Although this argument makes little sense, Seagram has, for years, experienced the benefits
of being highly diversified. With the strength of diversification Seagram has created over its long
life offers a firm foundation for future growth and stability. The objective of this current project is
to evaluate the assets and design a plan that will utilize the strengths of the organization while
shoring up new systems to realign Seagram for maximum growth

Maglev Train Essay
Maglev train states the train is lifted above its tracts by electromagnetic force when operating.
According to the study of Liu, Long and Li(2015), the general advantages of this brand new
technology over the conventional one, namely, the wheeled train, can be concluded into the
following three items. First, due to the absence of the friction, it can run more smoothly and
quietly. Secondly, there are less wear and tear happening during the operation, hence less
maintenance and on going cost is needed. Lastly, it can attain a rather high speed. This essay will
examine the key technologies of the maglev train from both the dominanted systems and the main
characteristics of high speed and low speed maglev trains perspectives.
There are three main systems lying in the train: suspension system, guidance and brake system and
traction system. Traction system and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The findings of Lu et al (2013) study suggest that it consists of primary coils, secondary coils and
levitation magnet. As Lu et al (2013) state, the train is driven by the interaction between traveling
magnetic field and the eddy currents, as well as thrust force. This can be demonstrated by the
electricity magnetism. However, the limitations of this system can be apparently found. The
intensity of the magnetic field is uneven, which is shown by the weakened near the entry end
sector and the intensified near the exit end sector (Guo, Zhou and Lian, 2012). This is known as
the end effect . Lee, Kim and Lee (2006) points out that its efficiency is relatively low due to the
end effect. This is further demonstrated by Guo, Zhou and Lian (2012), who claim that end effect
will produce a downwards pressure on the thrust force, which decreases the power efficiency and
affects the motor performance. Additionally, it tends to be evident that normal force can exert a
negative impact on the levitation system due to end

Disadvantages Of Citizen Journalism
Introduction
In the end, the discipline of verification is what separates journalism from entertainment,
propaganda, fiction, or art.... Journalism alone is focused first on getting what happened down
right. The willingness of the journalist to be transparent about what he/she has done is at the heart
of establishing that the journalist is concerned with the truth. (Kovach, Rosenstiel 2001)
As is it a journalist s responsibility, obligation and duty to the public to tell the truth, carrying out
thorough and accurate research is a vital part for construction of news stories. Reporting credible
news will develop public trust.
Without this confidence, journalists would be unable to carry out their jobs justly and democracy
will be compromised.
Why credible research?
Accuracy must be our journalistic grail. (McLellan, 2001)
Why do journalists need to carefully research possible news stories before publishing them? Is it
important to ensure its authenticity and accuracy? The public will consume information provided
in stories. If there are pieces of poorly researched news, it could potentially cause detrimental
outcomes such as losing one s job, embarrassment, a tarnished reputation (not only for the journalist
but also for the news company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hard and fast rules of Journalism. This leads to questioning the credibility of their stories and this

when certain situation arises. Since everyone can be a citizen journalist at any point of time, it
sometimes requires a leap of faith to trust and believe in the sources. We should always question
and verify reliability of the source.
It is always important to have someone that has authority as it serves to be more convincing and

Mass Shooting In Schools
Mass shootings have become one of the most fearful events that could happen in elementary
schools, high schools, and College campuses. These violent actions committed by a number of
individuals have happened for many years and will continue happening unless prevented.
Individuals like James Holmes opened fire in a Colorado movie theater, killing twelve individuals
and injuring twenty, John Sawahri shot five students dead in Santa Monica College also injuring
four individuals. However Eric Harris and Dylan Kleibold executed the most horrific act of school
violencein United States History. These two individuals managed to take the lives of twelve
students, a teacher and managed to take their own life in the process. This act of crime has spread
through America, leaving no one safe. These crimes have occurred not too long ago and can easily
happen in the future. As a community,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one just wakes up one day to realize they became a criminal; this process generally takes a
long and slow build. Guns opened to those who really should not have them can be seen as one
of the main reasons as to why mass shootings exist all around America. Investigators should find
a way to keep these killing machines away from those who should not have them. Living with a
abusive family and not getting any attention when a person needs it the most can also cause one
to build hate towards others. Always entertained by violent movies and video games will cause a
child s brain to think that the world mirrors the violence they obtain from these games and
movies. What happens in the games can also happen in the real world, especially when violent
games are involved. Searching for revenge or simply seeking for attention are also reasons to
mass shootings. All of this buildup in an individual s life can cause a child to grow up into having
a mind of a criminal. However, solutions to stop this from occurring are

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Online Education
As the online scene is rapidly prevailing in our everyday life, the traditional form of face to face
learning is slowly shifting its practice towards online learning. Online courses are becoming a
growing trend with a flexible way of functioning in respect to time, location and accessibility.
However, even though it sounds appealing, students need to consider the advantages and features of
face to face learning which cannot be found online. Traditional educationis based on and helps
develop: communicationskills through interaction, discipline and organization, as well as a distinct
value that traditional degrees have for future career advancement. Those in favor of online learning
would argue that communication online is possible and just... Show more content on

Whether they are located in an area where they do not have an accessible institution to attend
classes regularly or perhaps they are supporting a family and working full time jobs. Usually
however, they take it as a seemingly cheaper option. Generally, the total cost of a degree, including
tuition, expenses for rent, books and everyday needs cost less with online education. However,
some universities charge more for online courses as they cost more to develop and maintain. Aside
from this, another thing important to discuss are online degrees. As shown by research, employers
do not value online degrees as much as they do degrees earned through traditional institutions. In
such a case, students who earn their degrees online are at a disadvantage when seeking
employment. The principal reason for this are the many fraudulent establishments which take
advantage of the increasing number of students willing to pay online. Employers, therefore,
question these degrees earned from unfamiliar institutions. Before enrolling in a program, students
have to make sure that school is accredited. To avoid having their online degree discounted, students
have to research and enroll in a school that has recognition in the relevant field the student is

Beveridge Report On The Welfare State
This essay will discuss the key points of the Beveridge report (1942), and evaluate the
significance of the report on the welfare state. In November 1942, William Beveridge presented a
report called, Social Insurance and Allied Services to parliament. This was a summary of principles
to improve upon the existing welfarebenefits system, to benefit working people and the
population. The document proposed a new system to be operated by one governing agency, called
Social Security. This would be put in place by the state after World War 2 had ended. Overall
Beveridge created the most revolutionary document in our history. Beveridge has played a
significant role in evolving the Welfare Stateover the decades. (Robinson, 2003).

Administration The Social Insurance scheme would need to make big changes to the
administration process for this scheme to run smoothly and be successful. Beveridge wanted
every worker to obtain one insurance document weekly, rather than two. He saw this as an
opportunity for the new system to be under one governing agency called The Ministry of Social
Security. The new system also implemented classes to the National Insurance scheme, such as:
Class I for employees: Class II for Employers, traders, self employed and any other independent
workers: Class III Housewives (this has now been amended for all people of working age, who
have had a break in employment, or earn too little for it to be recorded): Class IV Others of
working age or not working (self employed).
The National Insurance scheme is still in force today, some changes have since been made to the
insurance classes, but it still has the same point. The class you pay depends on your employment
status and how much you earn, and whether you have any gaps in your National Insurance record.
A great way to make the National Insurance more functional was changing the original two piece
document just to one. Over 20 million people received these documents, so in essence this saved
time, money and paperwork. Beveridge s overall goal was to set in motion a strong Social
Insurance Scheme that was functional and up to date, benefiting all involved to make the

The Role Of Women And Their Effect On The War
Nevertheless, another important element in The Iliad is the role of women and their effect on the
war and their relationship with other characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, argues that women
had some independence and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar writes:
In the Homeric epics women seem to have little independence; they were always under the
guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband
s cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are
completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503).
I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are compelled of by man. As the
author noted about Chryseis been captured and becoming into a slave. This is exhibited in The Iliad
when Chrysesis father comes to King Agamemnon to recover his little girl back in the wake of
being given as a war prize to King Agamemnon. In the wake of bribing the Achenes to give back
his girl, King Agamemnon reacts by saying he will not give back his little girl. This is established
in Book One as Chyrses, Chryseis father drew nearer King Agamemnon,
Yes, Chyrses approached the Achaean s fast ships to win his daughter back, bringing a priceless
ransom...Just set my daughter free, my dear one...
Here, accept these gifts, this ransom...And all the Achaean s cried out their assent: Respect the
priest, accept the shining ransom! But it brought no joy in the heart of Agamemnon. The king

Development of the company s performance management needs clarity in the areas of monitoring
work progress, including the allocation of funds both monetary rewards and funding for gaming
development, and eliminating social hierarchy s.
Strategic planning and growth are areas of the company that need to be addressed to insure that the
direction of the business is clear for both employees as well as consumers. Issues arisen from
within the company are lack in training of new employees, constant updated training workshops for
established employees and to better the training received into hiring new employees.
2.DISCUSSION
2.1Organisational Structure
Organisational structure is a developing concept within the constantly changing business
environment with new technology shaping how tasks can be done more effectively and efficiently.
A technologically advanced company such as Valve embraces the changing environment and has
adapted the no manager s concept within the creative industry. Zarzaru (2013) states, within an
organisation, the dimension which concerns the choice of how work is organized and who is
allocated the work is formed by sharing knowledge, referred to as the human dimension, with
elements of the organisational structure fully reliant on knowledge management projects and the
physical human thought process, this concept is not fully reached within Valve, but is easily
achievable.

Analysis Of Homo Sapiens And The Hunger Games
There are a lot of questions raised throughout this course thus far, that address the key concepts
that have been explored both from the readings as well as The Hunger Games. Homo Sapiens by
Yuval Harari explored the various ways that homo sapiens have evolved, both good and bad. Harari
identifies the trademark events in history that catapulted homo sapiens into the fast track adaptation
that we had. Because of the agricultural, cognitive, and industrial revolution, homo sapiens were
able to change how we see individual potential. Not only did homo sapiens evolve as a whole, but
these revolutions allowed for individual strive and determination. The readings on ethicsallowed for
an insightful view into how cultures interact with each other and how relationships can be
affected, both positively and negatively. Finally, the showing of The Hunger Games touched on
dystopias and how they make for a division in society. The Hunger Games showed how imagined
orders are able to take charge and manipulate the members in a community. The first question
raised in the syllabus is, what is the difference between surviving and thriving? At the beginning
of this class, I would have answered this question very differently. Prior to the knowledge that I
now have, I would have said that they are pretty much one in the same. However, Homo Sapiens
especially has proven how different these two states of emotion are. For example, Harari brought
up the issue of factory raised animals and how

Dr Faustus Essay
Him, Himself, and Faustus Status and recognition what means an individual is willing to surpass
to achieve those ends is evident in Western society s praise of celebrities and their fame, whilst
trivializing tragic events and those responsible with talking points. For some, it does not matter
how their name is recognized in history or discussed by those who know them, but that their name
is merely spoken of at all. Surely then, a society which rewards individuals for their infamous,
grotesque acts with recognition, and then fails to effectively address the issue at hand, might find
that such incidents occur more and more frequently. The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus (A

This drive is seen time and time again throughout both texts: from conjuring the spirit of
Alexander the Great for Emperor Charles V (4.1.63 4; 4.1.99 101), to producing ripe grapes when
not in season for the Duke of Vanholt and the pregnant Duchess (4.2.12 7; 4.6.19 23). Clearly, this
drive is best demonstrated through Faustus himself when asked by his fellow scholars to summon
Helen of Troy in the B text:
Gentlemen, for that I know your friendship is unfeigned,
It is not Faustus custom to deny
The just request of those that wish him well.
You shall behold that peerless dame of Greece (5.1.18 21). Faustus strong desire to impress others
doubtlessly derives from his fear of being rejected by those of high stature in society; he wishes to
belong with them and not from whence he came. Furthermore, Stephen Orgel notes in Magic and
Power in Doctor Faustus , that although Faustus has unlimited power, he only conjures what is
asked of him, never striving beyond or testing his boundaries, and that this represents two major
flaws within Faustus: an artistic failure of imagination and a scholarly failure of originality (396).
Both failures stem from Faustus only doing what he is told, merely fulfilling what is asked of
him, so that he may, for a while, share their acclaim and status. If Faustus were truly empowered or
secure in his own abilities,

Design Process And Development Lifecycle
User centred (UCD) is an approach that supports the entire development process in which a
product is developed for the end users needs, not a product that is going to force the end user to

stages within the design process and development lifecycle. Using the UCD methodology

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unexpected changes may be disruptive, and leadership may encounter resistance. To manage technology changes the first step is to understand technology dynamics, and resistance it generates. According to Regan and O Conner (2002), managing organizational changes requires understanding the variables and their interdependencies; creating a climate for learning; recognizing new power distributions and handling complexity, ambiguity, and uncertainty. Of course, technology changes take a toll on the employee s morale and managerial time and emotion. Sometimes plans are abandoned because of strong employee resistance or because the managers feel unprepared or unable to implement the changes successfully. (Chapter 11.2.2 Technology Brings Change). e. Communication plans First in order for the goals and objectives of the communications plans to succeed, It is very important that staff involved in this plan are aware of the leaderships support and direction. • 3. The Evolution Of Allergies On Homo Sapiens Sarah Husted Anth 423 The evolution of allergies in Homo sapiens As of 2008, approximately 25% of people in the developed world suffer from allergic disorders (Galli, Tsai, Piliponsky, 2008). These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay fever, asthma, eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as allergic disorders. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is even higher than in the general population with 40 50% of children susceptible to one or more type of allergy (Pawankar et al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the developed world for over 50 years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can often take years to find a completely effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can severely disrupt everyday life. With so many suffering from allergies it is no surprise that this area of health has been thoroughly studied. Interestingly enough though, while we do know what happens in the human body during an allergy attack there is still debate as to why we as humans evolved allergic disorders in the first place. On a biological level, when an allergen enters your system it triggers a Type 2 immune response (Pulendran, Artis, 2012). Th2 cells and IgE antibodies control this type of immune response as opposed to the Th1 and IgM, IgA and IgG used a Type 1 immune response (Palm, Rosenstein, Medzhitov, 2012). • 4. Poppy Flower In The Great Gatsby The delicate beauty of a flower has been recognized by every generation, starting at even the beginning of time and prevailing during even the grimmest of situations. In 1920, two years after the end of WWI, a now hailed woman by the name of Moina Michael began a tradition that would last for years to come. She, like so many others, had been deeply affected by the war and, inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields, proposed presenting the poppyfloweras a symbol of remembrance of those who had given their lives to the war. This small proposal led to the poppy flower being worn every Armistice day. It became a tribute to those who were strong enough to fight and die for their country, and those who fought to right the flaws and weaknesses of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilson is one of the smallest yet most important people in all of The Great Gatsby. He is claimed by his wife, Myrtle, to be a dirty little coward, which is most likely one of the reasons she leaves him in the dust behind her (137). This statement establishes the fact that Wilson has a weakness of living almost in fear. However, this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful, silver dog collar. After finding it, he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a lover. Due to this realization, he locks Myrtle in her room and plans to move West, proving that he had more strength than she had anticipated. However, he does not have the emotional strength to follow through with it, and in a fit of hysteria, Myrtle runs into the road and is instantly killed after being run over by a car. He was so fearful of her that he did not stop her, and so ignorant that he did not realize his situation until death came knocking at his door. As it is gracefully put by Tom, He s so dumb he doesn t know he s alive (26). After Myrtle s death, something changes inside of him, something snaps, and it is best explained through the words of one of Wilson s neighbors, Michaelis: He was his wife s man, not his own (137). After placing so much into Myrtle and allowing himself to be completely taken over by her, her death caused him to lose a sense of identity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Self And Place In Waiting For The Barbarians In this thesis, the goal is to examine how the sense of Self and Place is portrayed and influenced by colonialism, in two postcolonial fictional South African novels; J.M. Coetzee s Waiting for the Barbarians and Nadine Gordimer s Burger s Daughter. Both authors have won the Nobel Prize for Literature, in 1991 Gordimer was the first South African author to receive this Prize, and Coetzee joined her in 2003. First of all, Coetzee s novel Waiting for the Barbarians offers the story of the Magistrate going through a crisis of conscience in a complicated place, however the Magistrate serves as a parallel for all human beings living under regimes that disregard lawfulness and respectable behaviour. Secondly, Gordimer s novel Burger s Daughter materialized... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was Nelson Mandela himself who said on the 3rd of July 1999: The experience of others has taught us that nations that do not deal with the past are haunted by it for generations we should forgive but not forget (O Reilly 46). Furthermore, it will be quite interesting and stimulating to explore these issues from respectively Nadine Gordimer s female point of view, and J.M. Coetzee s male point of view through their novels. Not to mention, that both the authors are critically of each other s work. Actually, in 1988 Coetzee and Gordimer got caught in a disturbing public disagreement regarding Salman Rushdie s invitation to speak about his controversial novel Satanic Verses, for which the British Indian author received numerous threats to his life. Retrospectively, Coetzee admitted that he was wrong and Gordimer, in her prudence, was right to argue that Rushdie s invitation to speak in South Africa should be withdrawn. Therefore, it is my assumption that examining as well as identifying the sense of Self and Place in the Nobel Laureates novels, Waiting for the Barbarians and Burger s Daughter, will be an interesting and rewarding ... I was going to create 2 models of Hiroshima before and after the bomb was dropped by the U.S. But instead I decided to create a small documentary about a woman who lived during WWII and experienced similar treatment than that of a Jew while in Germany under Nazi control. I will be interviewing her personally and asking her questions that relate to her life during the war. If I have time I will still try to create the model. • 9. Schizophrenia In The Fisher King The Fisher King is a complex movie that follows a narcissistic radio host named Jack Lucas and a homeless man named Parry. Throughout the movie, I frequently felt overwhelmed by the complex nature of both Jack and Parry s behavior. Although their behaviors are very different, both characters are complex individual s that are often tough to follow. The movie portrays Jack s narcissistic personality disorder, as well as depression and illustrates the tolling effect depression has on an individual, especially after feeling on top of the world. Additionally, the movie illustrates Parry s PTSD and schizophrenia as an utterly chaotic, overwhelming and delusional existence. Although some people with schizophrenia can live seemingly normal lives, the movie accurately displays the overwhelming nature of schizophrenia for a person who is not only homeless and off medication but has PTSD.... It is one of the poems written within the Exeter Book. The Exeter Book was written in about the tenth century and is filled with both historical poems and riddle poems. Part of the mystery of the meaning of Wulf of Eadwacer comes from where it is placed within the Exeter Book. The poem lies at the very end of the historical poems, which are poems that focus on historic events and people, and at the very beginning of the riddle poems, which are poems that were told with a hidden answer in order to pass the time. The author mentions the percentage who have become mothers without marrying has more than doubled in the last decade, and public criticize the Feminism, promiscuity, the media, the 60 s for this increase. However, the author asks us to consider if marriage no longer serves woman very well. Historically, women wed men to gain money and stable social status, yet in the 1990s , during which this article was wrote, women are getting the right to earn money themselves, thus they are able to be independence from men. Furthermore, by revealing the feeble purpose beneath the discussion about unwed mother by the public, asking woman to self sacrifice, the author shows us that the best method in helping unwed mothers is treat two sexes equally so that they will both have the ability to be independence. ... Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry The studies discussed here that measured the constituents of latent fingerprints usually used gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC MS) to identify the specific chemical compounds present in these prints and these results demonstrate the potential of GC MS to monitor the ageing of fingerprints. Previous research in the above sections has shown that the composition of fingerprint residues is too variable to allow any prediction about the age of fingerprints within reasonable boundaries [Archer et al. 2005; Weyermann et al. 2010]. However, these papers showed that a study into the relative amounts of intrinsic residue components may help towards developing a reliable method for predicting the age of a fingerprint. GC MS is suitable not only because of its sensitivity, but also because it is widely available and easy to use. The GC MS is a chromatographic separation technique that is commonly used for the separation and identification of volatile compounds [McMaster 2011]. • 23. Facilitating Better Scheduling of Smart Grid I. INTRODUCTION A key objective of smart grid efforts is to substantially increase the penetration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind. As per the Solar Mission under the National Action Plan on Climate Change, the central government of India plans to generate up to 20 GW grid based solar power, and cover 20 million square metres with solar energy collectors by 2020[1]. However land acquisition is a challenge to solar farm projects in India, hence there is a need to utilize residential roof tops for harvesting of solar energy. Substantial grid integration of renewables is challenging, since their power generation is intermittent and uncontrollable. The modern electric grid permits households to consume electricity in essentially arbitrary quantities at any time, and is not currently designed for vast quantities of uncontrollable generation. Instead, the grid constantly monitors the demand for electricity, and dispatches generators to satisfy demand as it rises and falls. Fortunately, electricity demand is highly predictable when aggregating over thousands of buildings and homes. As a result, today s grid is able to accurately plan in advance which generators to dispatch, and when, to satisfy demand. The challenge with substantial integration of renewable energy is that the electricity generated by renewables is not easily predictable in advance and varies based on both weather conditions and site specific conditions. For large scale solar farms producing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think the reasoning behind his writing of this poem was because in life, you have many obstacles to overcome and many choices and decisions to make, which opens a path that leads the way to your future. Therefore, I found that this poem not only symbolizes or relates to the author, but it also symbolizes or holds true to almost everybody s lives. One of the major symbols within this poem is the roads. When he says Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, he is using the roads to symbolize the paths, choices, and decisions that he has to make in his life. Those decisions guide the way to his future, because when you come to a two way street or road you have to decide or make a choice on which path to take. Also when he says And sorry I could not travel both And be on traveler, he is telling us how he is insecure on which road to take because he is unsure of what s ahead and would like to travel both roads to come up with a conclusion or a decision on the correct road to take. So overall, what road basically symbolizes in this poem is the options that he has in his life and the decisions that he has to make. Another symbol in this poem is the many observations that he makes. When he says long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth, he is using his observations to symbolize the brainstorming, analyzing, and thinking you have to do before or ahead of time when you are offered two options in your life and only one path to take. ... The novel begins with Hang on a train as she is traveling to visit her uncle Chihn. Within this narrative, Hang s memories are framed as she switches back and forth between stories throughout the novel. This revolving of stories mimics a human s natural train of thought in the way that it is like she is lost in thought and then regains consciousness to the present for a short while. This narrative technique makes the first person point of view more realistic with its sporadic pace, just as the brain has sporadic thoughts. As Hang is at the train station, her train of thought can be seen when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While she is on the train, she cannot help herself but to be lost in her thoughts. My cheeks burned and the hatred I felt for my uncle rose in me. I quickly boarded the train, nestled myself in a corner of the compartment, and closed my eyes (Duong 16). The internal struggle is revealed in this passage as Hang has to repeat over and over to herself to stop thinking. At the end of the passage, she closes her eyes which is when the frame switches to the side story of her family history. By closing her eyes, she gives into her racing thoughts, but it also symbolizes Hang s entire life in the way that she fights conforming to the societal pressures but always ends up giving ... Albert and Victoria s popularity soared and enhanced because of their calm composure when they were the target of two attempted assassination attacks when she was pregnant in 1840 and 1841. They were both popular in the fact that Victoria was the first sovereign not to go to Parliament every time she ran into debt, however she was never in debt. Albert took advice from his private secretary and had already begun to make money for the Queen, investing in savings in land and on the stock market that established the basis of the royal family s private fortune. Misinformation Theory The malleability of human memory is a widely debated and researched topic in recent psychology due to our reliance on memory in almost every aspect of society, specifically in eyewitness testimonies. If a witness testifies to their memory of an event, then how could they possibly get the details wrong? Research shows that a large portion of human memoryis actually reconstructive essentially, we unconsciously alter or attend to specific aspects of memory according to our emotions, expectations and prior knowledge (Howe Knott, 2015). Subsequently, the films we viewed in the class have affected me in four gifts of the humanities. As a student, my interests have developed around the social issues of classism and racism in America. Therefore, the course has given me food for thought via films which tackle social issues causing me to rethink the ways I understand these issues as well as understand filmrhetoric to gain a deeper knowledge of how society understood these problems. Cinema also allows viewers to gain a sense of the past, this is especially true of the course since the films we ve watched were opened 1959 or before. In this way, I have been able to understand historical events (such as the dust bowl, the great depression, and the red scare) through characters who are relatable, causing me to understand that though time and geography may differ between me and these characters, there exist timeless truths of humanity. The course has also allowed me to extend myself intellectually. Before enrolling in this course, I had little knowledge about cinema and its place in our society. The course has provided me with a new found appreciation for the art of film which is an important subject in academia rather than just an elective. Lastly, I have realized the idea of the infinite person, via this film course. Through the films viewed in class, I have found myself relating to characters I regularly would not have. For ... Definition of Project: Seagram has enjoyed a long history of success from its inception in 1924 with a single distillery in Canada to a world wise company. During this timeframe, global recognition has afforded Seagram the opportunity to grow to 14,000 employees as well as creatively diversify in a manner than many companies could not imagine. Unique purchases of oil companies as well as what some might argue to be more logical partnerships like fruit juices such as Dole Food Company, Inc. created continued accomplishments that would shore up the company and create a secure future. In addition calculated investments with DuPont, MCA Inc., which includes Universal Studios and them parks as well as electric companies build an impressive portfolio for Seagram as well. We know that highly diversified organizations are more successful, firms whose business units are highly related to each other, such as in a focused company, are outperformed by those whose business units are moderately unrelated to each other (Graham, 2012, p.14). The Role Of Women And Their Effect On The War Nevertheless, another important element in The Iliad is the role of women and their effect on the war and their relationship with other characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, argues that women had some independence and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar writes: In the Homeric epics women seem to have little independence; they were always under the guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband s cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503). I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are compelled of by man. As the author noted about Chryseis been captured and becoming into a slave. This is exhibited in The Iliad when Chrysesis father comes to King Agamemnon to recover his little girl back in the wake of being given as a war prize to King Agamemnon. In the wake of bribing the Achenes to give back his girl, King Agamemnon reacts by saying he will not give back his little girl. This is established in Book One as Chyrses, Chryseis father drew nearer King Agamemnon, Yes, Chyrses approached the Achaean s fast ships to win his daughter back, bringing a priceless ransom...Just set my daughter free, my dear one... Analysis Of Homo Sapiens And The Hunger Games There are a lot of questions raised throughout this course thus far, that address the key concepts that have been explored both from the readings as well as The Hunger Games. Homo Sapiens by Yuval Harari explored the various ways that homo sapiens have evolved, both good and bad. Harari identifies the trademark events in history that catapulted homo sapiens into the fast track adaptation that we had. Because of the agricultural, cognitive, and industrial revolution, homo sapiens were able to change how we see individual potential. Not only did homo sapiens evolve as a whole, but these revolutions allowed for individual strive and determination. The readings on ethicsallowed for an insightful view into how cultures interact with each other and how relationships can be affected, both positively and negatively. Finally, the showing of The Hunger Games touched on dystopias and how they make for a division in society. The Hunger Games showed how imagined orders are able to take charge and manipulate the members in a community. The first question raised in the syllabus is, what is the difference between surviving and thriving? At the beginning of this class, I would have answered this question very differently.
