Summary Of The Poem Before I Got My Eye Put Out
In both of Emily Dickinson s poem she refers to her sight. In the poem, Before I Got My Eye Put
Out, it s about her lost of sight, but throughout the poem she has many metaphors about her lost
of sight. Like in the first stanza she s talking about how she liked and enjoyed her sight when it
was good but didn t appreciate it as much when she had it. Then in her other poem, We Grow
Accustomed to the Dark, it s saying how her sight is bad but she s getting used to the dark and can
get around much easier towards the end of the poem. In stanzafour she is saying how the brave
stumbles in the dark but learns to walk properly. Finally the attitude of the poem, Before I got my
eyeput out, is kind of regretful because she wasn t grateful for her sight when she had it but now
regrets that. In the poem, We grow accustomed to the dark, the speaker shows perseverance
when she talks about trying and trying to get used to the dark and adjust to it. In this poem,
Before I got my eye put out, the speaker is talking about how she misses her sight in the first
stanza saying, Before I got my eye put out I liked as well to see... this shows that she liked her
vision. Then says, ...And know no other way, I think this means that she knows no other way to
see like she used to before. This means that she regrets not appreciating her eyes as much and
realizes that when she loses her sight. Then in stanza four she says, The motions of the dipping
birds the morning s Amber roadfor mine to look at when I liked... In this part the speaker is saying
how she used to see the dipping birds and amber roads but now that her sights isn t as good she
misses all of that. After all of the images she misses seeing she says, The news would strike me
dead, she was shocked and very sad about the news. Then in the poem, We grow accustomed to
the dark, the speaker talks about how she s slowly getting used to the dark. At first she s talking
how she need the neighbors lamp light to help her find her way. Then explains how the first steps
she was uncertain of and her vision will adjust to the dark and help her walk straighter. Then in
stanza four she says, The bravest grope a little and sometimes

If You Verb In The Saddle Be Ready For The Ride Analysis
Fear Doesn t Win
If you Climb in the Saddle be Ready for the Ride (Unknown) If you have ever rode a horse I m
pretty sure that you have fallen off. It s a scary thing but it s part of the country life, if you fall
down you get right back up. Well that s if you didn t hear a loud CRACK, but that not always an
excuse to give up on what you truly love. If you ever break anything from being thrown off a horse,
just remind yourself not to be reluctant of horses all of your life. You have to understand that not
every horse is like that!
Finding a good horse is a hassle, you have to know what you are looking for. You have to know
what your budget is for a good horse because they are not cheap by any means. Living in Hartford
and looking for a horse around that area isn t always a breeze. You ll have to be able to be flexible
to travel and try out horses around the area. Once you go and try a horse that you like don t set
your heart on it right away. Go out and try 50 other horses, the more experiences on other horses
back the better off you ll be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You have been spinning your head back and forth between theses three horses that I have really
connected with. The hard thing is choosing between the three horses and picking the top one and
buying that horse. Each time I ride the horses I have fallen more and more in love with them.
Finally the one horse that I have ever dreamed for had shown more spirit than the other two. I
choose the beautiful black and white paint, one eye is solid blue and the other one is half blue
half brown. Long flowy mane and tail, 16 hand tall, paint gelding built of steel, the power to blow

Advantages Of Speed Limit
E PLANNING STRATEGY OF POLICY SPEED LIMITS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES IN
MALAYSIA
10.1INTRODUCTION
Speed limit is the maximum speed allowed by law for road vehicles. The highest speed limit in
Malaysia is 110 km/h. There are very few public roads have no speed limit. In other country, there
are some roads that have minimum speed limits, where slow speeds are considered to impede
traffic or be dangerous. National Speed Limits is a set of speed limits applicable on Malaysian
expressways, federal roads, state roads and municipal roads. Like any other countries in the world,
failing to obey the speed limits on Malaysian roads and expressways is an offence as subject to
Malaysian Road Safety Act 1987. The government agency that responsible about the road speed
limits at Malaysia was Jabatan Kerja Raya Malaysia (JKR) under their road department. The first
speed limit was the 10 mph limit introduced by the Locomotive Act of 1861 in the United
Kingdom. In 1865, the revised Locomotive Act reduced the ... Show more content on

20th Century European Imperialism
Imperialism is a policy of extending a countries power on influence through democracy or military
force. During the 19th through 20th century the world was going through what is now known as
the New Imperialism. During this time Europe was conquering Africa. Europe went through a lot of
changes that affected their belief about themselves. The changes that happened during this time led
to the resurgence of economic nationalism and national imperialism. Europeans occupied the top
end of the continuum. The Europeans thought that Africans were inferior. Slave abolitionists
contributed to the idea of Africans being and inferior by arguing that Africans had to be protected
from the slavers and that they couldn t take care of themselves. Also scientist believed that the

They didn t understand why the Africans worked the way they did. Europeans argued that by

A Cost Accounting System Analysis
A cost accounting system is a framework used by firms to estimate the cost of their products for
profitability analysis, inventory valuation and cost control. Its goal is to advise the management on
the most appropriate course of action based on the cost efficiency and capability. Cost accounting
provides the detailed costinformation that management needs to control current operations and
plan for the future.
Costing is essential for every organization, as every manufacturing and other department has to be
assigned accurate budget for proper operation (Hansen, Mowen and Guan, 2006). The costing
system provides information that is useful to managers for minimizing wastage and allocating
resources to different departments.
The traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most organizations in the business arena today are quite complex, large and have many
departments. It cannot be the basis of the costing system in these organizations as it can only be
efficient when there are low indirect costs compared to direct costs.
On the other hand, Activity based costing (ABC) attempts to accurately trace indirect costs to
products by allocating indirect costs to activities and then to products based on their usage of the
activities. In order to counter the flaws of the Traditional Costing System, most organizations have
adopted the ABC method. ABC is an effective way to allocate the indirect costs and it leads to
more accuracy because it relies upon a greater number of activity and resource cost drivers rather
than only focusing on volume based cost drivers. Also in contrast to the traditional costing system,
ABC is optimal when indirect costs are higher as it utilizes several indirect cost pools and divides
the production function into many activity areas. The activity based approach provides a precise
breakdown of indirect costs and eliminates the allocation of irrelevant costs to a product therefore
providing a more exact reflection of product and customer profitability. Thus, unlike traditional
costing, ABC gives equal importance to other factors such as business competition, accuracy,
customer satisfaction, product development etc. It s emphasis on product efficiency helps the
company establish a

Oil Transmute Essay
Oil Transmute The oil change is a necessity for every vehicle/motorcycle owner that operates on
todays roads. The average person drives about ten to fifteen thousand miles each year. There are
many people that surpass the fifteen thousand mile mark and drive as much as fifty thousand
miles or more in one year. Most people do not consider that a vehicle purchase is usually not
always, there are some exceptions, the second highest priced property besides real estate being
purchased every several decades. Conversely, not servicing the automobileengine oil can lead to
broken car, severe financial stress, and having to decide on a new auto purchase in a short time

Not all oils within the same viscosity have the exact specifications, most engine oil
manufacturers provide a specification data sheet that shows all the oil properties including
oxidation, bearing wear and much more. Experienced mechanics will recommend oil to be
chanted every three thousand miles or less. The reason for the three thousand miles or less
interval is because mechanics have seen thousands of engine failures due to long oil intervals or
no oil changes for years. Several owners drive years without changing the oil and later realize
that the engine oil has oxidized lost its viscosity and turned into sludge. Although a special high
mileage oil is available for the public at any auto parts store, and the high mileage oil has had an
excellent result in the past with engine wear and oxidation test results. All high mileage oils are
recommended by mechanics for automobiles with fifty thousand miles or more and those
vehicles showing five years of age or more. Vehicle history is extraordinarily important for an oil
change service. The vehicle history shows specific oil type used in the past and crucial dates and
places the services were performed. Historical documents will help any new car or used car owner
develop a service plan for the car s engine. After choosing the desired oil

The article Why It Pays to Get Inside the Head of Your Opponent looks at the effects of two social
competencies in negotiations. Perspective taking and empathy are the two different approaches that
are studied in this article to determine the possible different effects they each have on the outcome
of negotiations.

Basically, creating a positive atmosphere for the other side making willingness to engage in a
negotiation in the first place more likely in setting a foundation for a positive experience
expectation for future negotiations.
In my opinion, the results in different relationship context would have been interesting to study. For
example, looking at the influences of perspective taking and empathy approaches in intimate
relationships.
I would guess that empathy would be rated higher for the success of negotiation in intimate
relationships.
Perspective taking can be motivated by trying to get the upper hand where as empathy is motivated
by a perspective of equality. Perspective taking only perhaps can be misleading in that it may give
the person the impression that their concern is important to the other person because their concerns
are valued which I think essentially means that they are valued. It would be conflicting if someone
valued another but had no regard for another s values regardless if they held the same values.
Empathy, I think, is sincere, genuine honest approach that fosters trust and effects the ability to
have closer relationships. You can t fake empathy. The other person can sense that fakeness. It is
that genuineness that leads to trust that is a base of intimacy. When we are emotionally

The Helicopter Pilot Fly Over New York City
Commander Brayzack asked the helicopter pilot to fly over New York City several times before
landing on the deck of the U.S.S. Carl Vinson; he had wanted to see the devastation firsthand.
Skyscrapers burned uncontrollably. The flames shooting out from their windows like a blast
furnace. Thick black and billowing smoke puffed its way skyward from the structures like the
coal smoke from an old steam locomotive. Piles of rubble clogged up the roadways making
escape from the island impossible. The chopper pilot weaved his way into the streets. Brayzack
watched the myriad of infected as they staggered their way aimlessly through the ruins. Their
enervated demeanor reminding him of a robot vacuum he had back at home. When turned on it
would just head in one direction until it ran into an obstacle, then aimlessly change to a new
direction and go that way until it hit another obstacle, as if searching for something that could
never be found. As the commander looked upon the legions of the undead he began thinking about
his wife Laura, and if the bacteria had made its way to Middleport yet. He then thought of his kids,
Randy and Kyle just teenagers, and his little girl Sarah only six. The thought of them becoming
one of these things was so unbearable he could barely keep himself from shedding a tear in front of
the pilot. He wished the thoughts out his mind. Wanting to forget such an inconceivable notion had
ever been there in the first place. He

Reflection On Special Education
Throughout sequence three, we touched on two main topics: policy and assessing diverse
students. In the policy module, we focused on learning about policies that will affect all
students, including minorities. We went over policies like No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and saw how these policies and others like them played out
in the classroom. The objective of the class was to learn how policy affects teachers and schools
at the micro and macro level. During TLSC 220, we learned about assessing and supporting
students with diverse needs, mostly English language learners (ELL) and children with special
needs. In the ELL section, we were assigned a studentwho was identified as ELL and assessed them

Teachers are impacted by national policies as well. One of these policies is the Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This is a policy that provides resources for students with
disabilities. These services include pull out/push in teachers, school therapy, extra time, and many
others. It keeps public schools accountable for doing the most they can to protect students with
special needs. This act can impact teachers in different ways as well. It can hinder them because
students are periodically leaving the classroom and missing parts of the lesson to go to a pull
out service or therapy. My student I was observing at St. Benedict had to leave class for pull out
classes every day along with three other students and my cooperating teacher expressed to us how
frustrating it is to have those students gone for the lesson and then having to teach them
separately. These services do, however, help teachers because the students are getting what they
need in school. If they were not getting special help they might be more disruptive to the rest of
the students and the teachers so overall it is good for them. Other local policies, like IDEA, can
impact both the way students learn and the way teachers teach. Lastly, international policies have
the ability to impact teachers all over the world. Because policies are different in every country it is
impossible for all students to be on the same level at the same time. For example, in America, most
states implement common

The Breakfast Club By John Hughes
The Breakfast Club
Noah Lane
Ivy Tech Community College
Abstract This paper is why everyone should watch The Breakfast Club. It tells a story of four
teenagers battling with rebellion, drama, and love. Most critics will argue that it is not realistic,
and no teenager is like that. However, The Breakfast Club written by John Hughes made teens
everywhere relate to at least one of these characters. This movie is a dramatic comedy that will
make someone laugh, cry, and angry all brought together in one amazing film.
The Breakfast Club The Breakfast Club, starring Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, and many other great
actors is a fantastic teen comedy. This movie had great humor along with heart warming love. It
is almost impossible to name one bad thing about this movie. The Breakfast Club is jammed
packed full of comedy, drama, and rebellion. These four high school students represent every
cliche in the 1980s school life. As typical as this may sound for a teen comedy the plot takes a
twist. This movie is not the usual teen comedy in any way. These four students will soon realize
that they each have something in common. Each of the kids parents don t treat them fairly or don t
even notice them. It is ironic at first, because they think that they have figure each person out and
they know everything about them. But soon into the movie they quickly realize they are all too
similar. This movie takes place in a high school in Shermer, Illinois.

games that a respondent may participate in, which may have an impact on their communication
skills. It is important to recognize however, that this particular sample, though a convenience
sample, is also made up of respondents who are part of the gaming community. Thus, this sample
has certain limitations in that the data will compiled from a self selected sample.
Section 3: Key Variables
The main question was to identify whether online collaborative gaming improved communication
skills. Four variables were used to assess whether communication skills could be improved due
to online gaming they are as follows: team communication skills, communication through
leadership skills, autocratic leadership skills, and leadership through democracy skills. The team
communication skills variable which consists of questions on the survey 1 7 which can be

of the First World War saw combat on a scale that had never been experienced before the conflict

the nature of combat changed significantly. The final days of swords and cavalry charges gave

at ending the stalemate and aiding the allied victory. War demands the development of new

Compare And Contrast The Atomic Bomb And Hiroshima Mon
Amour
The Atomic Bomb and Hiroshima mon Amour You saw nothing in Hiroshima. Nothing. In
Hiroshima mon Amour, mise en scene and editing are used in conjunction with inspiration from the
French New Wave Movement to express the severity and complexity of the traumas endured
following the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, Japan in 1945. In this trauma narrative, mise en scene
and disjunctive editing create a unique tone that ultimately represents the crippling struggle
between past, present, and future. This struggle also allows for an emerging theme between
personal and public tragedies, understanding the link between She (Emmanuelle Riva) s
experiences and the bombing in Hiroshima. Involved in two wars during the time of Hiroshima
mon Amour s release in 1959, the ideological stance of France was inevitably centered around war.
However, this film presents an alternative ideological viewpoint, focusing on suffering and
remembrance rather than the tragedies themselves. This point of view can be traced back to the
start of the French New Wavemovement where using film to portray thoughts and emotions
allowed filmmaker Alan Resnais the opportunity to produce a film with his own strong creative
touch. The first scene in this film opens on a dark room inside of which a couple lay naked
wrapped in each other s arms. Light classical music plays in the background, and She tells her
story of Hiroshima. He (Eiji Okada) frequently chimes in with his strong, deep voice, telling She

Evolution of Tapetum Lucidum
Human Eye Vs. Animal EyeпїјпїјBy:Andrea Torres
ABSTRACT
The tapetum lucidum is an evolutionary advantage for animals. It enables animals to see in dimmer
light than the animal would otherwise be able to see in. The tapetum lucidum is useful to animals,
but it also has a use to humans. Human beings use the tapetum lucidum to scan for reflected eye
shine, in order to detect and identify the species of animals in the dark and to send trained search
dogs and search horses out at night. Historically, its function was regarded as simply to increase the
light intensity of an image on the retina. Using eye shine to identify animals in the dark implies not
only color but, also several other features. The color reciprocates to the type of tapetum ... Show

The tapetum lucidum, reflects with constructive interference allowing it to increase the quality of
light to pass through the retina. For example, on a cat the tapetum lucidum lowers the minimum
threshold of vision 6 fold, empowering the cat to see light that is invisible to the human. пїј
A = optic disk (retina is strongly attached here).
B = tapetum lucidum
C = retina
D = lens
TYPES OF TAPETUM
Tapeta can be classified according to their location in vertebrates and mechanism in invertebrates.
Choroidal tapeta are the most common and are classified as tapetum fibrosum and tapetum
cellulosum. The simplest type is the tapetum fibrosum, which is found principally in mammals,
including herbivores (elephants, horses and goats), cetaceans (whales and dolphins), certain
marsupials (Tasmanian Devil), and a rodent (Cuniculus pacas). The tapetum fibrosum consists of
extracellular collagen fibrils that are stacked orderly with the majority of the its fibers running
horizontally. The number of layered fibrils varies between species and can be up to several hundred
thick. The most studied tapetum fibrosum among mammals is found in the cow and is located
posteriorly and dorsally. The thickness is variable, increasing its thickness posteriorly. In species
with a choroidal tapetum, the retinal epithelium in the area is the tapetum in un pigmented, it
allowing the light to pass subsequently reflected by the tapetum. This contrasts with the pigmented
retinal epithelium

Analysis Of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Voluptuous Vampire or Proper Prude
Written and set in the late 19th century, Bram Stoker s epistolary novel Dracula is a pivotal book
in gothic/horror literature. Like most novels written by men, Dracula appeals more to the male
audience and their fantasies and fears about women than to the Victorian Age woman. In the
novel, Lucy and Mina are the only two female characters the reader meets in detail, and they are
also the only two characters that are seen becoming vampires indeed, they are the only major
vampire characters, with the exception of the chief antagonist, who are described in detail within
the novel. Therefore it is clear that these two play a very important role in representing females in
the novel. Both characters are also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen when Van Helsing comments about Mina, She is one of God s women,
fashioned by His own hand to show us men and other women that there is a heaven where we can
enter, and that its light can be here on earth. So true, so sweet, so noble, so little an egoist and
that, let me tell you, is much in this age... ( 197 ). The fact that Stoker has chosen to include such
an important contrast between the two major characters so early in the novel suggests that it will
play an important part in the narrative. The reader later learns that this difference is essential to the
plot, as it is only Mina s purity and innocence that allows the group to defeat Dracula at the end of
the novel, and ultimately saves Mina from Lucy s fate. Lucy s part in the novel may be relatively
short, yet her role is essential to the audience s understanding of the novel s message about female
roles and female sexuality in Victorian society since she is the first victim of Count Dracula. At the
same time, Lucy is the only character whose transformation into a vampire Stoker describes in
detail:
At times she slept, and both Van Helsing and I noticed the difference in her, between sleeping and
waking. Whilst asleep she looked stronger, although more haggard and her breathing was softer; her
open mouth showed the pale

The Monarchy in Canada Essay
A monarchy is a form of government in which a single individual holds all the power in
government. Since 1918 Britain has been governed in a Democratic system but held a lot of the
same customs that it had when it was a monarchy (like a royal family etc.). Canada was a part of
the British Monarchy when it was still around and unfortunately is still a part of the monarchy
system that remains in Britain today. In 1867 the British North America Act was established and
formed the Dominion of Canadaby Queen Victoria. Since then Canada has grown to have its own
customs and traditions but Britain s crown is unitary throughout all jurisdictions in Canada. Queen
Elizabeth the second is the sovereign of Canada she is the head of state; she must... Show more

The British Monarchy lacks legitimacy in Canada because they don t make themselves present to
Canadians in their everyday lives. Firstly, the royal family who consists of the head of the British
Monarchy don t even bother to have a residence in Canada. This shows that the heads of the
Monarchy don t bother to make themselves existent to Canadians. Secondly, the monarchy doesn t
have any actual power to influence the lives of Canadians substantially. If the Monarchy held
more power that would greatly influence Canadians almost all of Canada would pay attention to
it. Lastly, 81.6 % of Canadians aged 25 44 work about 7 hours per day and then they come home
to more responsibility like family and schoolwork. The Monarchy throughout that day has made
little to no effort to make them seem present or even relevant to the average person. The British
Monarchy does not make much effort to make themselves seem legitimate too Canadians in their
lives; because of this the Monarchy should be abolished in Canada.
In Canada the British Monarchy mostly has attachments to the older generation of Canadians
whereas the younger generation of new Canadians feel the Monarchy has no place in Canada.
Firstly, in May of 2010 a poll was conducted by Leger Marketing and it found that 68 % of

1.Yali s question is Why is it that you white people developed so much cargo and brought it to
New Guinea, but we black people had little cargo of our own? In a broader sense, why did some
things progress in some areas, but not in others?
2.The first consideration Diamond discusses is that just because something happened and that it
would have happened anyway, it does not make the act good or just. The second consideration is
that the most powerful region, in this case, western Europe, should not be the only one talked about
because ideas and practices that are now or were at that time integrated into their culture were not
necessarily developed by them, but by other culture that imported their beliefs into European
culture. The third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to a growth in population because now there was no restriction on how often you could
have children, just how many you can care for. This led to a greater population density which
ultimately started civilizations.
8.One factor that contributed to the transition from hunting gathering to farming was the decline
in the availability of wild foods to gather. A second factor was an increased availability of wild
plants. A third factor was the development of technologies that food production would later depend
upon. A fourth factor was the link between the rise in population density and the rise in food
production. A fifth factor was food producers could force hunter gatherers to leave or kill them off
because of the great numbers they had.
9.One advantage the Fertile Crescent had in food production was that it had a Mediterranean
climate that was mild and wet in the winter and hot and dry in the long summers. This allows
plants to grow quickly after the dry season when the rain comes back. A second advantage was
many plants there were already very abundant and very productive. A third advantage was that it
had a lot of hermaphrodite plants that would almost always pollinate themselves and occasionally
cross pollinate which allowed a little more variety. A fourth advantage was that the area had
different levels of elevation which allowed a variety of plants to grow in a small

There will also be the need for more input devices which are used while working with computers
and include keyboards, mice, touch pads, cameras among others. A network adapter is also a
necessity since there will be need for internet connection, which either will be wireless or wired.
For this type of business both wireless and wired internet connections will be installed. The wired
connection will be a backup to the wireless connection for speed acceleration. For internet
connectivity in the premises there will be need for Fibre connection between the two businesses
and a satellite connection to field officers (Kroenke, 2013).
Computer software are the codes that are programmed into a computer to control how it works.
They work as a set of instructions that communicate with the computer hardware (Kroenke,
2013). There are two types, system software and application software. Windows 10 will be the
system operating software for this business. This is because it has the fastest start up and a high
speed booting operating system. It can also be touch enabled which is a plus for the business set
up. There will also be virus protection software; this is vital for all PCs since more computers
mean more risks of viruses. For this business an anti virus will be used because it will help with
malware scan and also includes additional security.
The Application Software that will be installed on the PCs include Microsoft Word

Allusion In Infinite Jest
In his celebrated 1,079 page novel set at a tennis academy and addiction recovery house, David
Foster Wallace borrows a phrase from Shakespeare s Hamlet for the title, Infinite Jest. The
allusion is grounded in the vital plot device also named Infinite Jest, a necromantic film that
engrosses the viewer to the point of catatonia and eventually death. The filmmaker is the character
James O. Incandenza, who sought to produce a film so radically entertaining that it would
affectively tear his son Hal from anhedonia, a sarcastic and apathetic state of being that
characterized, for Wallace, American culture at the time. As it becomes clear very early on in
Infinite Jest, James is dead for the majority of the plot, appearing as a ghost late in the... Show more

Catherine Nichols points this out, calling James the infinite jester of the novel (11). In view of
his connection to Yorick, the allusion to the graveyard scene in Hamlet is twice made explicit:
once near the beginning and once toward the end of Infinite Jest; Hal shares a dream with the
novel s other protagonist, whereby the two dig up James head (16 17; 934). Of course, the
graveyard dream recalls the grave scene from Hamlet, where the titular character discovers that
the skull uncovered by the gravediggers is that of his childhood jester Yorick, whom he
describes as a fellow of infinite jest (5.1.191 2). As Indira Ghose suggests, the infinite in this line
is enclosed within Hamlet s recollection of the jester, so the infinity is reduced to the confines
of a single character s memory and is recalled only upon his chance encounter with the skull; the
infinite is juxtaposed with the image of the empty skull he holds up to the audience, so the
infinite as a concept is exposed as a huge joke (1015). Aside from James The Joke, his film
Infinite Jest itself functions as a jest: the overt impossibility of a film engaging a viewer to the
point to death, the hyperbolic mother son theme parodying psychoanalytic theory, and, perhaps
most poignantly, the glaring absence of the infinite. In Hal s dream, he digs up his father s head
in order to find, as it is elsewhere inferred, the master copy of the film. However, as the reader
and Hal are aware, James head was destroyed, thus the film no longer exists. This absence recalls
the gaping emptiness of the jester s skull as Hamlet holds it up to the audience. In both cases, the
infinite itself becomes the joke, in the sense that the yawning absence belies the immutable nature
of infinity. Likewise, Wallace s

The Washington Redskins Should Change Their Name
The debate about whether or not the Washington Redskins should change their name has been a
topic for a long time. Some Native Americans have often considered the name a racial slur and
think that the league should get rid of the name as it doesn t represent Native Americans in the
best way possible. In 1937 the Redskins moved to Washington and decided to retain the name
even though it had faced backlash then. Since then the team has over time shown more caution
on using slogans that may disrespect Native Americans. Some slogans they did use include On
the Warpath, with a cartoon drawing of an angry Indian, and another called Teepee Talk,
featuring a clip art Indian sticking his head out of a tepee (Shapira, 2016, Para.5). There will
always be a debate if the team should get rid of its name but for right now Washington s football
teams name is the Redskins. In Washington they took a poll asking Native Americans if they
were offended by the name Redskins. The poll Showed that 90% of Native Americans did not feel
offended by the team name, in fact they thought that it showed respect to their heritage. But on the
other hand when they took a poll across the whole nation people were a little more disgruntled
with the name as 23% of people wanted the name to be changed. The Post poll also found that 78
percent deemed the Redskins name an issue that is either not too or not at all important (Keim,
2016,Para.5). The lead plaintiff that is filing for the Redskins to

An Article On The National Marriage Project
This article from the National Marriage Project was definitely an intriguing read. It is really
astonishing to see all of the statics about marriage, cohabitation, and even divorce. One things that
stood out to me in the article, were the graphs. I have always been someone that likes to see
visuals. The graphs compare the difference, regarding marriage, between least educated,
moderately educated, and highly educated individuals. Throughout all of the data and statistics,
one things is certain: The importance of marriage has declined over the years. Although statistics
may seem skewed at times, the statistics in this article seem to be very true. The studies have
shown that the well educated tend to have more successful marriages and a more stable
relationship than the others. Marriage seems to be heading in the direction of luxury. It seems as
if, through research, that many couples are successful if they have all of the adequate means that
the well educated men and women have. As we look at the statistics, unsuccessful marriages were
typically detected within the least educated. Over the past several years, this has spread to the
moderately educated. Some of these moderately educated men and women feel as if they are not
economically ready and fit to start a family. Several years ago, it was seen that most unsuccessful
marriages were seen in the least educated, but unfortunately, this is spreading into the moderately
educated. It is extremely eye opening to see how

Soviet Forces During The Soviet War
In February 1986, Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev announced that Soviet Forces would conduct a
phased withdrawal from Afghanistan. The fallout of this order would precipitate down to lower
echelons of Soviet armed forces in the form of Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (DRA) forces
taking the leading in combat operations against the Mujahideen (Grau p.110, 1998). With this in
mind, the Soviets pushed the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan Command to relieve the siege
of Khost by again attacking the Mujahideen strong point at Zhawar (Jalali Grau p.97, 2000). The
Soviet approved plan called for 5 under strength DRA maneuver brigades and one DRA artillery

The 38th Commando group had little experience in air assault missions, no collective combat
experience prior to this operation, and had not conducted an air assault to date (Grau p.87,

April. Of all the concerns listed, the latter would turn out to be the greatest risk to the operation.
Around midnight on the 2nd of April, the DRA began artillery and aviation bombardment of the
target area. This was followed by the initial commando group s insertion. The commandos
landed without opposition, however they missed their landing zone by 15 kilometers and ended
up in Pakistan rather than on top of Dawri Gar. The missed insertion led to the ground assault
force meeting heavy resistance from Mujahideen defending Dawri Gar Mountain. As a result, the
ground advance was fixed in place. Had LTG Azimi followed the SOF Truth of Quality is Better

Are White Women Attracted To Black Men

black women are also attracted to white men. However, most people don t really set out for this.
It just happens by chance. Most black men dating white women and most white men dating black
women did not plan it. They just fell in love with someone from a different race. Think of it, race

When you date someone in another race, you will have the chance to learn his beliefs and
cultures too. Unfortunately, some people see this as a problem while it is a blessing. There is
beauty and strength in diversity. Apart from that, knowing about several cultures makes you a
better person because you will be able to relate better with people from other culture. More

A lot of people do not believe this because they believe that the person for you should be perfect
and never wrong you. The person for you is not an angel so don t expect him or her to be
perfect. Having said that, what if the person for you belongs to a different race from yours? As
mentioned earlier, there is someone for everyone and the one for some people may not come
from their race. It is not uncommon for families of both parties to disapprove the an interracial
relationship. So, just like how you will do anything to prove the family of your spouse wrong,
(s)he will also want to prove your own family wrong too. This is why parties of black white

The Underground Man Analysis
The Underground Man s character and relationships in the novella The Underground Man, are
quickly ruined by his philosophical convictions. One of these convictions is that the only way to
feel alive is to feel pain and suffering, and the two choices in life are either lofty suffering or cheap
happiness. The Underground Man ruins relationships with Liza through believing that he will not
be able to have true happinesswith her and instead, it will all be fake. This thinking is completely
irrational and does not allow him to achieve true happiness, as he does not choose to understand that
that is a possibility in life. The irrational thinking in the Underground Man s head, causes illogical
actions when it comes to emotions and situations that he is not used to. These situations all have
negative repercussions that further cause the Underground man to believe that his relationships and
happiness are unattainable. The Underground Man uses the belief that lofty sufferingis the only way
to feel alive, to justify his poor actions and chooses in tricky situations. The Underground Man has
finally found a girl who attempts to understand and go through what he is going through, and yet
he abuses this upper hand that he has and bullies her. He claims that he cannot achieve love, and
to him, love is the bullying and suffering that gives him some form of happiness or feeling in life.
After Liza has stormed out of the room and is gone forever, The Underground Man poses a

The statue of David, completed by Michelangelo in 1504, is an easily recognizable symbol to
people not only in Florence, but from all around the world. The David has a special meaning for
Florentines, and is a symbol of what the city strives to be; strong, courageous, and youthful. The
sculpture tells the tale of the battle between David and Goliath. David, a young boy at the time,
was angered at the way Goliath was treating the Israelis and stood up to the giant feat of taking on
Goliath. With a simple slingshot and stone, he defeated the angry giant, and became a symbol of
liberty. The story shows that anything can be done with the help of God. David is not only the

places around Florence, but the two most favored were the courtyard of the Palazzo Vecchio and
the Loggia dei Lanzi. After much deliberation, the statue was finally placed by the main doorway
of Palazzo Vecchio in the Piazza della Signoria, and publicly debuted on September 8, 1504.

What Are The Causes Of The Age Of Exploration
The Age of Exploration, starting from the 15th century and lasting until the beginning of the 17th
century, was a period of time in which the Europeans explored the Americas and Africa while
searching for a more efficient trade route with Asia. However, the Europeans did not just discover
this lands, but also made use of them and the native population. The causes of the Age of
Exploration were God, Gold and Glory which effects were the expansion of Christianity,
importation of precious resources into Europeand colonization of new lands.
The first cause of the Age of Exploration was God which resulted in an expansion of Christianity.
Missionaries were sent to the newly discovered continents to convert the native population to
Christianity. In a letter from Father Kino, a Catholic Priest, in 1687, it is described how he

In the beginning of the 16th century, the importation of gold was close to zero but a century after
Columbus found America, the income of gold from the new world reached almost 7 millions of
ounces (Doc 3). Another evidence for the great import of gold in Europe is the money spent on
sending missionaries to convert and conquistadors to kill the native population and use their lands.
The whole scheme of the Europeans was created by the desire to import more resources in their
countries. This leads to the discovery of new continents which resources and native people are
exploited by most of the coastal countries in Europe. However, the huge import of precious metals
leads to inflation. That makes countries like Spain and Portuguese one the richest and most powerful
countries in the 16th and 17th centuries and allows them to sent settlers to the newly discovered
lands and create

Effects Of Alcohol On Social Behavior
The presence of alcoholic beverages seems ubiquitous today, and it has been that way for
thousands of years. Nowadays, it can be found at sporting events, social gatherings, with meals, and
in many other environments. Alcohol is a psychoactive drug (it alters mood and potentially
consciousness) and is specifically classified as a depressant. Depressant drugs slow down the
nervous systemand physiological functioning while promoting a relaxing, drowsy feeling. In the
case of alcohol, these aforementioned effects typically arise when heavy doses of the drug are
consumed. In low to moderate doses, however, the opposite happens. The alcohol has a mood
elevating effect, along with many other physical and social symptoms that are associated with it.
This essay will discuss some of the effects that alcohol has on social behavior. First, the mechanism
of action alcohol has on the brainwill be explained, followed by paragraphs that discuss how
moderate amounts of alcohol influence social behavior, sexual behavior, and driving ability. The
fundamental basis for how alcohol effects the body starts at the neuronal level. A neuronis another
name for nerve cell. The human brain contains trillions of these nerve cells, which transmit
information to and from each other, and subsequently to the rest of the body. Neurons have
dendrites, which contain receptors that receive chemical messages from other nerve cells. These
receptors are influenced by chemicals called neurotransmitters, which

Operation Fences Noriega Summary
Surprisingly, Noriega had been credited by the DEA in 1985 for aiding Operation Pisces, which
froze $14 million from 54 different bank accounts of major drug traffickers. However, it should be
noted that those accounts were generally held by Noriega s rivals. Noriega had a partnership with
the MedellГn cartel, in which he received a percentage of every shipment through their cocaine
laboratory in the jungles of DariГ©n, just beyond the Colombian border. A leopard can t change
its spots and apparently Noriega couldn t resist double dealing, even with the likes of the MedellГn

decision as the cartel put a price on his head. Noriega actually fled... Show more content on

intelligence was secretly arming the Nicaraguan rebels, in violation of a Congressional vote (the
Boland Amendment). The physical evidence from the Iran Contra scandal became undeniable
when a plane carrying supplies for the Contras was shot down on October 5, 1986 in Nicaragua.
First of all, the pilot, Eugene Hasenfus, told the press that he was working for the CIA and had
been involved in missions with them as far back as 1965. Secondly, Hasenfus had been flying a
plane that was registered to Alder Berriman Seal, aka Barry Seal, one of the most experienced
drug smuggling pilots of all time. Seal had smuggled roughly $3 to $5 billion worth of illegal
drugs into America, according to estimates by the federal government. Seal had also performed
various functions for the CIA and DEA at different times. Finally, Hasenfus s notebook featured a
phone number that was a direct line to George Bush s office.
Several Reagan administration officials tried to cover up this scandal, notably Oliver North and
his secretary who were caught shredding related documents on November 21, 1986. Just five
days later, 17 duffel bags with 1,400 pounds of cocaine were delivered to Laguna Army Airfield in
Yuma, AZ. The cocaine was hidden in the bushes off of the airstrip, but no one picked up the
delivery. Authorities later confiscated the drugs, but they were never able to determine how the
pilot mysteriously managed to land a private plane into restricted airspace

Character Foils In Hamlet
In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, Hamlet has three main character foils: Laertes, Ophelia, and
Fortinbras.
Hamlet s main character foil is Laertes, son of Polonius and brother of Ophelia. At the beginning of
the play, we learn that Hamlets father is murdered by his uncle from the ghost of his father. The
ghost tells Hamlet The serpent that did sting thy father s life now wears his crown (I.2.41 42). In
Act III Scene 4 Hamlet kills Laertes father Polonius in Gertrude s chambers. The death of Hamlet s
dad had a very depressing effect on him. He asks himself many questions before taking revenge for
his father. Laertes, on the other hand, takes immediate action. Laertes quickly returns to France as
soon as he hears about Polonius death. Once

How Is Gran Torino Related To Sociology
Gran Torino
To what extent has Clint Eastwood portrayed the struggle between different cultural groups within
the film Gran Torino
In the film Gran Torino the director, Clint Eastwood, has shown the immense struggle between the
different races in such a way that is realistic to the modern day today. Strong wiled war veteran
Walter Kowalski, played by director Clint Eastwood, is under going a major change in society. The
neighbour hood in which he has always lived in is in desperate need of cultural acceptance and
change. In this Eastwood film there is massive showing of the evolution of violence. Where it
started and how it ended within the Hmong community.
The main character, Walter Kowalski, has many issues with cultural difference. This stems from
his old fashioned views on life and his traumatic past. Walt has had a previous career in the
military and was involved in the Korean War hence why his views on the Hmong people are very
negative. There is not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first Kowalski isn t bothered by all the bad in his neighbourhood but this all changes when a
Hmong family move in next door. There are very clear cultural differences between the Hmong
family and the very obsolescent Kowalski. He struggle majorly in trying to accept the fact that
his new neighbours were not of the same culture as him. There is a breaking point in the movie
where the Hmong son from next door, Vang Thao Lor, breaks into Kowalski s garage and tries to
steal his classic car, the Gran Torino. The reasoning behind him doing this is because Thao s
cousin is trying to get him involved in his gang and as an entry ritual he makes him steal the car,
thus being non successful. This major plot line is encircled with the constant violence of Mexican
and Korean gangs. The violence starts with language and suggested weapons and ends up with
strong violence including rape and eventual death of

Rising Action In George Connell And Finney s Most...
Most Interesting Plot Imagine a story with lots of action, well developed plot structure, and
interesting resolutions while teaching life lessons. This is the dream of an enthusiastic reader.
When reading a story, a reader looks for something that will quickly engage his or her attention.
Rising action in a story satisfies this need. In Most Dangerous Game the main character faces
many challenges, namely the danger of being stalked by General Zaroff, an avid hunter who
idolizes hunting and has taken it to an extreme. Similarly, Tom in Contents of A Dead Man s
Pocket faces danger and possible death when he walks onto a high ledge. To help engage the

Both climaxes deliver anxiety to the reader through intense, exciting action. First, the climax of
Most Dangerous Game surprises the reader. A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the
bed, was standing there. Rainsford! screamed the general. How in God s name did you get here?
Swam, said Rainsford. I found it quicker than walking through the jungle (Connell 52). This
climax is very exciting and unexpected because the reader assumes Rainsford s fate when he
jumps off the cliff into the ocean. Now Rainsford confronts his hunter providing a climax that
leaves the reader with anxiety, prodding him or her to read on. Contents Of A Dead Man s
Pocket also leaves the reader with unease at the climax. As Tom reaches for the paper on the
dangerous ledge, the reader reaches with him. He couldn t quite touch it, and his knees now were
pressed against the wall; he could bend them no farther (Finney 30). Uncertainty fills the reader s
mind in a similar way to Most Dangerous Game . In contrast Finney s climax comes earlier in the
story, which gives more time for the resolution of the story. These stories both have breath taking
climaxes, written to produce anxiety in the reader, nudging them to read on. Finally, the resolution
of the stories shows the main difference between the two. Connell provides a dry resolution, giving
few clues to the reader about the fate of Zaroff. After Zaroff loses the game, Rainsford confronts
Zaroff, and

Teens At War Summary
These past three weeks I read a book called Teens at War by Allan Zullo. This book is about teens
who sign up for the military, risking their lives for their country. We hear multiple stories of
these teens. Some of these teens are underage and some of them are not. This makes some of the
stories more interesting than the others. Yes, I could read more books about this topic because
this book was very interesting to me because I love learning about US history and what happened
to make this country free. I have been interested in this topic for a long time and will keep reading
these books until I get bored with them. I fell like it is important for an American to learn about
his/her country so they can know why they came here. I also like this

The Moral Ambivalence Of Crime And Criminology
Crime and Criminology Essay
It is common knowledge that crime exists all over the world and that justice and punishment may
vary in different countries and societies. However, how justice and punishment is enforced in a
society and globally is not common knowledge. Global justice refers to the belief that the world is
unjust; while social justice, in a manner of speaking, refers to the fair treatment of everyone in a
society.( Social Justice ). Both social and global justice value human rights, remove inequality, and
holds people accountable for fair practices.( Social Justice ). If someone commits the same crime as
another person, for example, they should receive the same punishment. That is what most people
would be inclined to believe, but in the reading The Moral Ambivalence of Crime in an Unjust
Society by Jeffrey Reiman, crime and justice is reviewed and defined in an uncommon way.
Reiman discusses justice in a society where a crime was committed against him and his wife. A
visit to France should be like a dream come true, an experience of a lifetime, but for Jeffrey
Reiman and his wife it was not. In the summer of 2005, they visited a town called Nice. After
traveling all night, the couple picked up a car that they were leasing for the summer. Before they
could lock the doors to the car or even enjoy any of the accommodations, they were victimized.
There, in the city of Nice, they have a crime called vol a la portiere, theft through the door. This

Neighborhood Violence
Richmond, Calif. IN 2007, this city of about 100,000 people, north of Berkeley, had the dubious
distinction of being the ninth most dangerous in America. That year saw a total of 47 homicides. In
some neighborhoods, gunfire was almost a daily event.
At one point, the City Council considered asking the governor to declare a state of emergency and
send in the National Guard. Instead, in 2007, the city created the Office of Neighborhood Safety. (I
am the founding director.) Our mission was simple: to tackle this epidemic of gun violence that was
killing so many young men, mostly in our minority communities.
We modeled our approach on Cure Violence, a community outreach program in Chicago founded by
the epidemiologist Gary Slutkin. The Chicago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The average cost to taxpayers of every gun homicide in America is nearly $400,000.
In contrast, the costs of our program were modest. In practice, we have rarely needed to pay the
full amount offered under the terms of our deal: Just over half our fellowship participants receive
payments, usually in the $300 to $700 range. So if our program prevented gun deaths, there could
be little argument about cost effectiveness.
It did. In the first year of Operation Peacemaker, homicides in Richmond fell to 22 (from 45 in
2009). In five years of our program, through 2014, we have seen the number of homicides in
Richmond, which had averaged 40 a year, more than halved; firearm assaults in general fell by a
similar proportion.
In 2014, we celebrated the lowest number of firearm assaults and homicides in more than four
decades. Richmond recorded a 76 percent reduction in homicides and a 69 percent reduction in
firearm assaults from 2007, when the Office of Neighborhood Safety was created.
In reality, we ve achieved these results not simply by the cash incentive. Our change agents work
with about 150 clients a year, at a cost of about $20,000 per person, which pays for daily
mentoring, coaching and companionship. By comparison, it costs our city about $200,000 to hire

The Boys Of Winter Character Analysis
A tale can be told in several different ways. Many people are aware of the astonishing feat of the
1980 USA Olympic Men s Hockey team, who were huge underdogs in their bid to win the gold
medal against the powerhouse USSR. The movie Miracle , directed by Gavin O Connor, is the
dramatic journey taken by this team, from the anxiety filled tryouts in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, to the exhilarating game against the USSR in Lake Placid, New York. The book, The
Boys of Winter written by Wayne Coffey, is based on the same events, but takes a less emotional,
more factual approach to the subject. The purpose of this essay is to compare these two resources,
and to discuss how they differ in tone, style, and theme.
In reviewing these two sources, what is most striking is that the voyage the 1980 USA Olympic
Men s hockey team takes is portrayed very differently in the movie than in the book. The tone
and pacing of the movie is much quicker. For example, the movie only covers about two years in
time while the book, in comparison, covers almost 50 years. The film follows the journey in
chronological order and slowly builds excitement and suspense. It begins with training camp and
shows how the team is chosen. From there, it unfolds to reveal key parts of the pre Olympic games.
Finally, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

players and their lives leading up to and after this historic game. Wayne Coffey does not simply
write about the USA side of the game. By spending time detailing the history of the USSR team, he
provides a much more balanced view. This allows the reader to gain context and understand the
perspective of both teams. Because of this informative style, the outcome of the game was not as
important as understanding the stories of the men behind both

War Crimes In Iraq

troops crossed the border into Kuwait, ending America s war in Iraq. More than 100 vehicles
were in that convoy, snaking its way across the desert and through the floodlit border crossing,
leaving behind empty bases and memories of nearly 4,500 American lives that were lost.
Americans breathed a sigh of relief. Many Iraqis held their breath. War, they feared, was far
from over for them, and time has borne out their fears. The death and violence never stopped it s
just that the bombs and bullets faded from American minds and television screens once the pull
out was complete. Two years later we re back in Iraq and things are in many ways worse for
Iraqis than when the Americans left. Driving in along what the U.S. military called Route Irish
or the BIAP (Baghdad International Airport road) the stark concrete blast walls are now covered
in murals, the median is grassed with palm trees and fountains. We were reminded this was done
for the 2012 Arab League Summit in Baghdad, not for general beautification. More than 8,000
people were killed in Iraq in 2013, according to the U.N. estimates most of them innocent
civilians caught up in the tempest of violence that grips their country. A previous version of ISIS,
the Islamic State of Iraq, comprised the core insurgents the Americans fought in those cities
during the war. They have regrouped and strengthened across the border in Syria during that
country s bloody conflict and extended their fight for a home for their brand of hard line
Islamism into Iraq. The results have been deadly not just in Ramadi and Fallujah of course, but
across the country, where, just like the bad old days of 2005 2009, bombings and killings have
become pretty much daily events. The Americans aren t coming back to help out with boots on the
ground, but they are giving other support offering drones, missiles, aircraft and other assistance.
But this isn t a battle to be won

Mortality, Success, Success, And Happiness
Mortality, a thing most people are, almost painfully, aware of. Though they may not want to
think about it, a person s mortality affects them at every stage in their life. As an adolescent, it
gives one the mentality of You Only Live Once , as a middle aged adult it makes one fall into a
midlife crisis, and as an elderly person it makes one afraid of all the possible consequences of one
s actions. While some would argue that mortality is humanity s one great downfall, there are others
that would argue the importance of it. Consequently, they would claim that a person s mortality is
what makes them great. No matter which side one is on, it always comes back to the ominous death
that awaits all; it is always fatality that rules lives, that rules one s success. However, it is arguable
that mortality is not what drives people to success, but the search for happiness. Due to this
debatable topic, there have been many forms of literature that have explored the intricate
relationships between mortality, success, and happiness; included in these pieces of literature are
The Death of Ivan Ilych , a short story by Leo Tolstoy, and Imagining the Downside of
Immortality , a New York Times article written by Stephen Cave. While it is impossible to
formulate a certain answer, The Death of Ivan Ilych and Imagining the Downside of Immortality
offer their own views on what makes a life successful; whether it is the prize of happiness or
simply the consciousness of ever approaching

Revision Narrative
One of the biggest change I made was changing the narrator of the story. I decided to change it to
a third person narrator to give myself more flexibility in terms of description because I felt like
the first person narrator limited what I was able to describe. However, writing in the third person
also proved to be challenging. The different POV changed the tone and voice of the story. Plus I

Although, the majority of the responsibility of a case is in the paralegal hands; however, it is the

  • 2. Summary Of The Poem Before I Got My Eye Put Out In both of Emily Dickinson s poem she refers to her sight. In the poem, Before I Got My Eye Put Out, it s about her lost of sight, but throughout the poem she has many metaphors about her lost of sight. Like in the first stanza she s talking about how she liked and enjoyed her sight when it was good but didn t appreciate it as much when she had it. Then in her other poem, We Grow Accustomed to the Dark, it s saying how her sight is bad but she s getting used to the dark and can get around much easier towards the end of the poem. In stanzafour she is saying how the brave stumbles in the dark but learns to walk properly. Finally the attitude of the poem, Before I got my eyeput out, is kind of regretful because she wasn t grateful for her sight when she had it but now regrets that. In the poem, We grow accustomed to the dark, the speaker shows perseverance when she talks about trying and trying to get used to the dark and adjust to it. In this poem, Before I got my eye put out, the speaker is talking about how she misses her sight in the first stanza saying, Before I got my eye put out I liked as well to see... this shows that she liked her vision. Then says, ...And know no other way, I think this means that she knows no other way to see like she used to before. This means that she regrets not appreciating her eyes as much and realizes that when she loses her sight. Then in stanza four she says, The motions of the dipping birds the morning s Amber roadfor mine to look at when I liked... In this part the speaker is saying how she used to see the dipping birds and amber roads but now that her sights isn t as good she misses all of that. After all of the images she misses seeing she says, The news would strike me dead, she was shocked and very sad about the news. Then in the poem, We grow accustomed to the dark, the speaker talks about how she s slowly getting used to the dark. At first she s talking how she need the neighbors lamp light to help her find her way. Then explains how the first steps she was uncertain of and her vision will adjust to the dark and help her walk straighter. Then in stanza four she says, The bravest grope a little and sometimes ... During the 19th through 20th century the world was going through what is now known as the New Imperialism. During this time Europe was conquering Africa. Europe went through a lot of changes that affected their belief about themselves. The changes that happened during this time led to the resurgence of economic nationalism and national imperialism. • 7. A Cost Accounting System Analysis A cost accounting system is a framework used by firms to estimate the cost of their products for profitability analysis, inventory valuation and cost control. Its goal is to advise the management on the most appropriate course of action based on the cost efficiency and capability. Cost accounting provides the detailed costinformation that management needs to control current operations and plan for the future. Costing is essential for every organization, as every manufacturing and other department has to be assigned accurate budget for proper operation (Hansen, Mowen and Guan, 2006). The costing system provides information that is useful to managers for minimizing wastage and allocating resources to different departments. The traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most organizations in the business arena today are quite complex, large and have many departments. It cannot be the basis of the costing system in these organizations as it can only be efficient when there are low indirect costs compared to direct costs. On the other hand, Activity based costing (ABC) attempts to accurately trace indirect costs to products by allocating indirect costs to activities and then to products based on their usage of the activities. In order to counter the flaws of the Traditional Costing System, most organizations have adopted the ABC method. ABC is an effective way to allocate the indirect costs and it leads to more accuracy because it relies upon a greater number of activity and resource cost drivers rather than only focusing on volume based cost drivers. Also in contrast to the traditional costing system, ABC is optimal when indirect costs are higher as it utilizes several indirect cost pools and divides the production function into many activity areas. The activity based approach provides a precise breakdown of indirect costs and eliminates the allocation of irrelevant costs to a product therefore providing a more exact reflection of product and customer profitability. Thus, unlike traditional costing, ABC gives equal importance to other factors such as business competition, accuracy, customer satisfaction, product development etc. It s emphasis on product efficiency helps the company establish a ... Not all oils within the same viscosity have the exact specifications, most engine oil manufacturers provide a specification data sheet that shows all the oil properties including oxidation, bearing wear and much more. Experienced mechanics will recommend oil to be chanted every three thousand miles or less. The reason for the three thousand miles or less interval is because mechanics have seen thousands of engine failures due to long oil intervals or no oil changes for years. Several owners drive years without changing the oil and later realize that the engine oil has oxidized lost its viscosity and turned into sludge. Although a special high mileage oil is available for the public at any auto parts store, and the high mileage oil has had an excellent result in the past with engine wear and oxidation test results. In my opinion, the results in different relationship context would have been interesting to study. For example, looking at the influences of perspective taking and empathy approaches in intimate relationships. I would guess that empathy would be rated higher for the success of negotiation in intimate relationships. Perspective taking can be motivated by trying to get the upper hand where as empathy is motivated by a perspective of equality. Perspective taking only perhaps can be misleading in that it may give the person the impression that their concern is important to the other person because their concerns are valued which I think essentially means that they are valued. It would be conflicting if someone valued another but had no regard for another s values regardless if they held the same values.

  • 12. The Helicopter Pilot Fly Over New York City Commander Brayzack asked the helicopter pilot to fly over New York City several times before landing on the deck of the U.S.S. Carl Vinson; he had wanted to see the devastation firsthand. Skyscrapers burned uncontrollably. The flames shooting out from their windows like a blast furnace. Thick black and billowing smoke puffed its way skyward from the structures like the coal smoke from an old steam locomotive. Piles of rubble clogged up the roadways making escape from the island impossible. The chopper pilot weaved his way into the streets. Brayzack watched the myriad of infected as they staggered their way aimlessly through the ruins. Their enervated demeanor reminding him of a robot vacuum he had back at home. When turned on it would just head in one direction until it ran into an obstacle, then aimlessly change to a new direction and go that way until it hit another obstacle, as if searching for something that could never be found. As the commander looked upon the legions of the undead he began thinking about his wife Laura, and if the bacteria had made its way to Middleport yet. He then thought of his kids, Randy and Kyle just teenagers, and his little girl Sarah only six. In the policy module, we focused on learning about policies that will affect all students, including minorities. We went over policies like No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and saw how these policies and others like them played out in the classroom. The objective of the class was to learn how policy affects teachers and schools at the micro and macro level. During TLSC 220, we learned about assessing and supporting students with diverse needs, mostly English language learners (ELL) and children with special needs. One of these policies is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This is a policy that provides resources for students with disabilities. These services include pull out/push in teachers, school therapy, extra time, and many others. It keeps public schools accountable for doing the most they can to protect students with special needs. This act can impact teachers in different ways as well. It can hinder them because students are periodically leaving the classroom and missing parts of the lesson to go to a pull out service or therapy. My student I was observing at St. Benedict had to leave class for pull out classes every day along with three other students and my cooperating teacher expressed to us how frustrating it is to have those students gone for the lesson and then having to teach them separately. These services do, however, help teachers because the students are getting what they need in school. If they were not getting special help they might be more disruptive to the rest of the students and the teachers so overall it is good for them. Other local policies, like IDEA, can impact both the way students learn and the way teachers teach. Lastly, international policies have the ability to impact teachers all over the world. Because policies are different in every country it is impossible for all students to be on the same level at the same time. For example, in America, most states implement common ... This movie is not the usual teen comedy in any way. These four students will soon realize that they each have something in common. Each of the kids parents don t treat them fairly or don t even notice them. It is ironic at first, because they think that they have figure each person out and they know everything about them. • 22. Compare And Contrast The Atomic Bomb And Hiroshima Mon Amour The Atomic Bomb and Hiroshima mon Amour You saw nothing in Hiroshima. Nothing. In Hiroshima mon Amour, mise en scene and editing are used in conjunction with inspiration from the French New Wave Movement to express the severity and complexity of the traumas endured following the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, Japan in 1945. In this trauma narrative, mise en scene and disjunctive editing create a unique tone that ultimately represents the crippling struggle between past, present, and future. This struggle also allows for an emerging theme between personal and public tragedies, understanding the link between She (Emmanuelle Riva) s experiences and the bombing in Hiroshima. Involved in two wars during the time of Hiroshima mon Amour s release in 1959, the ideological stance of France was inevitably centered around war. However, this film presents an alternative ideological viewpoint, focusing on suffering and remembrance rather than the tragedies themselves. This point of view can be traced back to the start of the French New Wavemovement where using film to portray thoughts and emotions allowed filmmaker Alan Resnais the opportunity to produce a film with his own strong creative touch. The first scene in this film opens on a dark room inside of which a couple lay naked wrapped in each other s arms. Light classical music plays in the background, and She tells her story of Hiroshima. It enables animals to see in dimmer light than the animal would otherwise be able to see in. The tapetum lucidum is useful to animals, but it also has a use to humans. Human beings use the tapetum lucidum to scan for reflected eye shine, in order to detect and identify the species of animals in the dark and to send trained search dogs and search horses out at night. Choroidal tapeta are the most common and are classified as tapetum fibrosum and tapetum cellulosum. The simplest type is the tapetum fibrosum, which is found principally in mammals, including herbivores (elephants, horses and goats), cetaceans (whales and dolphins), certain marsupials (Tasmanian Devil), and a rodent (Cuniculus pacas). The tapetum fibrosum consists of extracellular collagen fibrils that are stacked orderly with the majority of the its fibers running horizontally. The number of layered fibrils varies between species and can be up to several hundred thick. The most studied tapetum fibrosum among mammals is found in the cow and is located posteriorly and dorsally. The thickness is variable, increasing its thickness posteriorly. Analysis Of Bram Stoker s Dracula Voluptuous Vampire or Proper Prude Written and set in the late 19th century, Bram Stoker s epistolary novel Dracula is a pivotal book in gothic/horror literature. Like most novels written by men, Dracula appeals more to the male audience and their fantasies and fears about women than to the Victorian Age woman. In the novel, Lucy and Mina are the only two female characters the reader meets in detail, and they are also the only two characters that are seen becoming vampires indeed, they are the only major vampire characters, with the exception of the chief antagonist, who are described in detail within the novel. The fact that Stoker has chosen to include such an important contrast between the two major characters so early in the novel suggests that it will play an important part in the narrative. The reader later learns that this difference is essential to the plot, as it is only Mina s purity and innocence that allows the group to defeat Dracula at the end of the novel, and ultimately saves Mina from Lucy s fate. Lucy s part in the novel may be relatively short, yet her role is essential to the audience s understanding of the novel s message about female roles and female sexuality in Victorian society since she is the first victim of Count Dracula. At the same time, Lucy is the only character whose transformation into a vampire Stoker describes in detail: At times she slept, and both Van Helsing and I noticed the difference in her, between sleeping and waking. Of course, the graveyard dream recalls the grave scene from Hamlet, where the titular character discovers that the skull uncovered by the gravediggers is that of his childhood jester Yorick, whom he describes as a fellow of infinite jest (5.1.191 2). As Indira Ghose suggests, the infinite in this line is enclosed within Hamlet s recollection of the jester, so the infinity is reduced to the confines of a single character s memory and is recalled only upon his chance encounter with the skull; the infinite is juxtaposed with the image of the empty skull he holds up to the audience, so the infinite as a concept is exposed as a huge joke (1015). Aside from James The Joke, his film Infinite Jest itself functions as a jest: the overt impossibility of a film engaging a viewer to the point to death, the hyperbolic mother son theme parodying psychoanalytic theory, and, perhaps most poignantly, the glaring absence of the infinite. In Hal s dream, he digs up his father s head in order to find, as it is elsewhere inferred, the master copy of the film. However, as the reader and Hal are aware, James head was destroyed, thus the film no longer exists. This absence recalls the gaping emptiness of the jester s skull as Hamlet holds it up to the audience. In both cases, the infinite itself becomes the joke, in the sense that the yawning absence belies the immutable nature of infinity. Likewise, Wallace s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Washington Redskins Should Change Their Name The debate about whether or not the Washington Redskins should change their name has been a topic for a long time. Some Native Americans have often considered the name a racial slur and think that the league should get rid of the name as it doesn t represent Native Americans in the best way possible. In 1937 the Redskins moved to Washington and decided to retain the name even though it had faced backlash then. Since then the team has over time shown more caution on using slogans that may disrespect Native Americans. Some slogans they did use include On the Warpath, with a cartoon drawing of an angry Indian, and another called Teepee Talk, featuring a clip art Indian sticking his head out of a tepee (Shapira, 2016, Para.5). There will always be a debate if the team should get rid of its name but for right now Washington s football teams name is the Redskins. In Washington they took a poll asking Native Americans if they were offended by the name Redskins. The poll Showed that 90% of Native Americans did not feel offended by the team name, in fact they thought that it showed respect to their heritage. But on the other hand when they took a poll across the whole nation people were a little more disgruntled with the name as 23% of people wanted the name to be changed. The Post poll also found that 78 percent deemed the Redskins name an issue that is either not too or not at all important (Keim, 2016,Para.5). • 32. An Article On The National Marriage Project This article from the National Marriage Project was definitely an intriguing read. It is really astonishing to see all of the statics about marriage, cohabitation, and even divorce. One things that stood out to me in the article, were the graphs. I have always been someone that likes to see visuals. The graphs compare the difference, regarding marriage, between least educated, moderately educated, and highly educated individuals. Throughout all of the data and statistics, one things is certain: The importance of marriage has declined over the years. Although statistics may seem skewed at times, the statistics in this article seem to be very true. The studies have shown that the well educated tend to have more successful marriages and a more stable relationship than the others. Marriage seems to be heading in the direction of luxury. It seems as if, through research, that many couples are successful if they have all of the adequate means that the well educated men and women have. As we look at the statistics, unsuccessful marriages were typically detected within the least educated. Over the past several years, this has spread to the moderately educated. Some of these moderately educated men and women feel as if they are not economically ready and fit to start a family. Several years ago, it was seen that most unsuccessful marriages were seen in the least educated, but unfortunately, this is spreading into the moderately educated. One of these convictions is that the only way to feel alive is to feel pain and suffering, and the two choices in life are either lofty suffering or cheap happiness. The Underground Man ruins relationships with Liza through believing that he will not be able to have true happinesswith her and instead, it will all be fake. This thinking is completely irrational and does not allow him to achieve true happiness, as he does not choose to understand that that is a possibility in life. The irrational thinking in the Underground Man s head, causes illogical actions when it comes to emotions and situations that he is not used to. These situations all have negative repercussions that further cause the Underground man to believe that his relationships and happiness are unattainable. The Underground Man uses the belief that lofty sufferingis the only way to feel alive, to justify his poor actions and chooses in tricky situations. • 41. Effects Of Alcohol On Social Behavior The presence of alcoholic beverages seems ubiquitous today, and it has been that way for thousands of years. Nowadays, it can be found at sporting events, social gatherings, with meals, and in many other environments. Alcohol is a psychoactive drug (it alters mood and potentially consciousness) and is specifically classified as a depressant. Depressant drugs slow down the nervous systemand physiological functioning while promoting a relaxing, drowsy feeling. In the case of alcohol, these aforementioned effects typically arise when heavy doses of the drug are consumed. In low to moderate doses, however, the opposite happens. The alcohol has a mood elevating effect, along with many other physical and social symptoms that are associated with it. This essay will discuss some of the effects that alcohol has on social behavior. First, the mechanism of action alcohol has on the brainwill be explained, followed by paragraphs that discuss how moderate amounts of alcohol influence social behavior, sexual behavior, and driving ability. The fundamental basis for how alcohol effects the body starts at the neuronal level. A neuronis another name for nerve cell. The human brain contains trillions of these nerve cells, which transmit information to and from each other, and subsequently to the rest of the body. The Moral Ambivalence Of Crime And Criminology Crime and Criminology Essay It is common knowledge that crime exists all over the world and that justice and punishment may vary in different countries and societies. Global justice refers to the belief that the world is unjust; while social justice, in a manner of speaking, refers to the fair treatment of everyone in a society.( Social Justice ). Both social and global justice value human rights, remove inequality, and holds people accountable for fair practices.( Social Justice ). The movie Miracle , directed by Gavin O Connor, is the dramatic journey taken by this team, from the anxiety filled tryouts in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to the exhilarating game against the USSR in Lake Placid, New York. In reviewing these two sources, what is most striking is that the voyage the 1980 USA Olympic Men s hockey team takes is portrayed very differently in the movie than in the book. The tone and pacing of the movie is much quicker. For example, the movie only covers about two years in time while the book, in comparison, covers almost 50 years. More than 100 vehicles were in that convoy, snaking its way across the desert and through the floodlit border crossing, leaving behind empty bases and memories of nearly 4,500 American lives that were lost. Americans breathed a sigh of relief. Many Iraqis held their breath. War, they feared, was far from over for them, and time has borne out their fears. The death and violence never stopped it s just that the bombs and bullets faded from American minds and television screens once the pull out was complete. Two years later we re back in Iraq and things are in many ways worse for Iraqis than when the Americans left. Driving in along what the U.S. military called Route Irish or the BIAP (Baghdad International Airport road) the stark concrete blast walls are now covered in murals, the median is grassed with palm trees and fountains. We were reminded this was done for the 2012 Arab League Summit in Baghdad, not for general beautification. More than 8,000 people were killed in Iraq in 2013, according to the U.N. estimates most of them innocent civilians caught up in the tempest of violence that grips their country. A previous version of ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq, comprised the core insurgents the Americans fought in those cities during the war. They have regrouped and strengthened across the border in Syria during that country s bloody conflict and extended their fight for a home for their brand of hard line Islamism into Iraq. The Americans aren t coming back to help out with boots on the ground, but they are giving other support offering drones, missiles, aircraft and other assistance. But this isn t a battle to be won ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though they may not want to think about it, a person s mortality affects them at every stage in their life. As an adolescent, it gives one the mentality of You Only Live Once , as a middle aged adult it makes one fall into a midlife crisis, and as an elderly person it makes one afraid of all the possible consequences of one s actions. While some would argue that mortality is humanity s one great downfall, there are others that would argue the importance of it. Consequently, they would claim that a person s mortality is what makes them great. No matter which side one is on, it always comes back to the ominous death that awaits all; it is always fatality that rules lives, that rules one s success. However, it is arguable that mortality is not what drives people to success, but the search for happiness. Due to this debatable topic, there have been many forms of literature that have explored the intricate relationships between mortality, success, and happiness; included in these pieces of literature are The Death of Ivan Ilych , a short story by Leo Tolstoy, and Imagining the Downside of Immortality , a New York Times article written by Stephen Cave. While it is impossible to formulate a certain answer, The Death of Ivan Ilych and Imagining the Downside of Immortality offer their own views on what makes a life successful; whether it is the prize of happiness or simply the consciousness of ever approaching ... • 53. Revision Narrative Revision Narrative One of the biggest change I made was changing the narrator of the story. I decided to change it to a third person narrator to give myself more flexibility in terms of description because I felt like the first person narrator limited what I was able to describe. However, writing in the third person also proved to be challenging. The different POV changed the tone and voice of the story. Plus I couldn t decide on which girl was the main protagonist of the story. As I delved into both girls mind through third person narrative they both became more interesting, and it was harder for me to decide on one main character. Now the subject of the story keep shifting between both girls. Although I liked the mystery and anticipation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
